A little belatedly, Ransy realizes there is no immediate danger and he tries to calm himself so that he can do an average healing job. So, if the witches are still alive after his failed attempts at stabilizing them, he will try again in a more calm mood.
Take 10 on heal, result 10+5 = 15 to stabilize the two witches Bosk brought out.

Activating the spell Alistair placed on the paladin's arm, Ransy sends off his message with an air of urgency. As explained when the spell was placed on Ransy, it could be sometime before the mage could arrive, if at all. Then administering first aid to the young witches Bosk had brought out, his skills just aren't enough. Luckily though, both witches have stabilized on their own.
Eventually Maikill succumbs to fatigue as he races round and round the tree, looking for the escapee spirit from the cauldron, not succeeding in finding him.
Completely exhausted from his previous wounds, spellcasting and now dragging Beri out of the smoke-filled chamber, Valla gathers what little strength he has left, takes a huge breath, and heads back underground--his lust for treasure throwing away any concerns of safety for his own wellbeing.
Beri's limp body lays there, tendrils of smoke rising off of it as he lays there breathing raggedly.
Grendel tends to the young witch she brought out with Xeron, who is on the verge of passing out (another 2hp non-lethal damage), sacrificing her backpack for the moment to do so. It's touch and go, but Grendel manages to stabilize her. Sorry, you can't use Take 10 for First Aid, since it takes 10 rounds to use and you could possibly fail all nine attempts and succeed on the 10th try, but by that time it's too late and the patient would have bled out (and you can only work on 1 patient at a time). For Long Term Care, not a problem.
Bosk returns from the bowels of the earth with another pair of witches--they are both on the verge of dying. Taking several deep breaths, and placing the witches magical cudgel in his pack, the Taur heads back into the depths of the earth once more.
Busting out of the tunnel, barely remaining to stay conscious due to the traffic jam with Bosk down below, Valla breathes deeply. Clutched in his right hand is a backpack, the spoils of his searches in the underdark--remarkably it looks just like Grendels, including down to the underwear and other items inside it.
Soon Bosk returns once again and lays out two more witches. These unfortunately are dead, as are the rest of the witches underground, having suffocated on the smoke from the large fire.
----------
Both of the witches that came out with Bosk, #3 & 4 (#5 & 6 are dead)are both still bleeding. Grendel and Ransy may administer to them, but each character only has time for two rolls. So they must choose to help each once, or one twice if the first attempt fails. DC15 Heal check.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:1/12 d20=16 ; - Help Stabilize Beri or Cesar if Valla is able to help out. Friday March 12th, 2010 9:13:49 PM
Valla drags his feet, after going through the pack, realizing its Grendels things... He takes the pack over to her, dropping it at her feet. Mumbling sorry. He walks away takes off his own pack, setting it on the ground as well. He then lies down, arms and legs spread out, taking deep breaths of fresh air.
After his few moments of insanity clear, from having thought he was going to choke to death, he realizes he's a pretty greedy elf... He stands up and dusts himself off a bit. Gathering his things, he walks over to where Grendel and Ransy are taking care of the sick witches. He shakes his head. Arn't 'witches' suppose to be evil? A foul soul; I must do research....
Valla makes his way to Cesar and Beri; He will help stabilize if able to. If not he will say a silent prayer and find Temujin and Jacob.
What do we do now... Is Jacob ok?
Cesar and Beri are already stabile. DM Jim

Xeron coughs his lungs out as Grendel saves him. "Thanks lady ..... for saving me .... "
He looks at the young teen witch (assuming she is still alive) and shakes his head in disgust "You are so useless. You cannot heal. You cannot hit. You cannot kill. You cannot even survive smoke. Totally useless "
He sits on the ground, his eyes lost starring at the grass.

Bosk lets out a sigh as he lays the teen witches on the ground. They had been alive in the cave and must have died in his arms as he ran. If only he had been quicker. Although he despised witches, these were just children. At this age, could they even know what they were doing? May Gargul judge Sorena and hold her responsible for these girls!
The cleric is drawn away from his thoughts by Maikill's question. Still somewhat depressed he responds, his voice more subdued than normal. You are not seeing things. It was dark and smokey, but with the sight gifted me by Gargul I saw the thing that rose from the cauldron. Like a human, but darker than even the blackness with taloned claws and eyes darker than the eternal void. I don't know what it was, but I have no doubt that it was something evil and that these witches were responsible. It rose up and disappeared.
Bosk then walks over to Beri and lays his hands on his blood soaked tunic. Gargul, this rogue has fought well and risked his life to save another, and to stop those who would desecrate the Wold Blood. Grant him your healing and grace this day that he may continue to fight and carry out your will. As Beri wakes Bosk whispers to him. You were brave back there, but I 'm afraid that Gargul's not yet ready for you.

Taking stock of their situation, the group settles down and waits out the smoke flowing from the one entrance into the witches lair. Both Grendel and Ransy are able to stabilize the third and forth injured witches Bosk brings out, but no one is able to save the two after that. Their dead lifeless eyes, their tear streaked sooty faces stare upward at the approaching evening. Thankfully Beri is conscious and walking about, but Cesar still remains unconscious due to the poison working it's way through his body. All five witches that are alive seem to be doing well under Grendel's and Ransy's care.
Temujin continues to care for Jacob, making him comfortable, but the druid remains unconscious, but reasonably healthy looking.
After about an hour the smoke clears out to the point where the underground lair can be searched safely, also, at that time Cesar pops awake, as if on cue. Down in the lair six dead witch bodies remain scattered about the cauldron room. The cauldron itself is split in half down one side and seems to be inscribed in runes around it's broken lip. Near the shallow grave is a raised area with two piles of skulls. The skulls are very small, smaller than a halflings, and could be childrens skulls. The stone bowl between the two piles of skulls has a heart and liver from some unknown creature--possibly human.
The dead witches, in fact all of the witches other than Jessica, Callie and Sorena, are naked under their black robes and have no possessions on them other than a belt holding glass-grass daggers (10 total left that are unbroken). The group will find small bundles of traveling clothes, twelve in all, stacked in the small antechamber to the west where the natural pool of water resides.
On Jessica you find: Bracers 4 rings on her fingers Wickedly curved dagger that has turned black and corroded looking.
Callie: Bracers 3 rings on her fingers Same type of dagger as Jessica's, but slightly different in style. Black and corroded.
Sorena: Split Mithril breastplate (needs Make Whole to fix, mending won't do it) 5 rings on her fingers Cudgel
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 15 of 20 Spells Saturday March 13th, 2010 11:37:17 PM
After searching the bodies Bosk says a prayer for the deceased and adds the cudgel he retrieved to the loot pile. It's a nice weapon, but not realy my size. he thinks to himself. Looking through the loot he picks up the halved breast plate, the one item which interests him. If no one wishes to negotiate for it, he will claim it for his own.

Beriothian's eyes open as Bosk speaks to him.
Good thing Gargul's not ready for me yet.... I wasn't particularly ready to meet him yet either.
Beriothian slowly climbs to his feet. He takes a quick accounting of his possessions. He has spent 6 bolts, three of which he remember may be recoverable. His crossbow should be near the entrance of the cave, and he has dropped his sap as well.
Bosk, could you come down into the tree with me and help me gather the equipment I lost down there, I could use your dark vision to help me find everything. Also, in my current condition it is prudent not to travel alone.

Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 15 of 20 Spells Sunday March 14th, 2010 10:09:28 AM
Bosk agrees to go with Beri. Setting the armor down again he shruggs. I hope the group takes the time to fix ot before selling it. It would be a shame to not get what it's really worth.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 15 of 20 Spells Sunday March 14th, 2010 3:19:43 PM
ooc: make whole is a 2nd lvl cleric spell. The cost to hire soneone to cast it is 20gp*caster lvl=approx. 40 gold but will greatly increase the item value. I would perfer not to sell it until it is fixed (hence Bosks interest), or perferably let a party member purchase it (on credit if necessary) for sale price - cost of fixing. Just my 2 cents.
I personally have no use for any item (unless the rings are magic).
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 17/23 Sunday March 14th, 2010 4:08:37 PM
OOC: it was Ransy who carried Beri out of the hole, after healing him for 4 hp; Valla carried Cesar, I think. Beri was at -10 + 4= -6 and then healed for 7hp by Bosk.
Ransy feels good about saving Beri's and a witch's life. He is also glad that Temujin is cooperating nicely and caring for Jacob. he says to the dopplegaenger: you're doing a nice job there; got any idea why he is still unconscious? I'd like to check the rate of his heart beat, okay? Ransy checks Jacob's vital signs.
He wonders about Cesar, remembering that he was hurt quite badly by the witches. He approaches Cesar and asks: how are you feeling? Are you badly hurt? That was quite brave what you did, attacking four witches on your own. I admire your courage, Domi bless you, but perhaps you should ask someone to join you on such a daring manoeuvre.
Ransy says to Grendel: I suppose the witches will remain unconscious for quite a while, but if one of them does come by, I would like to interrogate her.
Ransy & Jacob -- DM Jim d20+5=14 ; Sunday March 14th, 2010 4:32:31 PM
Temujin is quite protective of Jacob, but knows Ransy to be a good man and moves aside to let him check Jacob's vital signs. Not sure at first, then taking a minute or so (Take 10) to examine Jacob, Ransy's pretty sure he is not injured in any way. His pulse is strong, but his pupils are dilated--usually meaning head trauma or under some drug influence. Since Jacob has no apparent head injury, Ransy concludes he must be drugged, which falls in line with what witches seem to do. When Jacob will awaken, is unknown.

Valla picks through the pile of loot. Seperating the rings and odd looking blades. He studies each ring and blade as close and as throughly as he can. Looking for some indication of their uses, or properties.
I'd like to keep one or two of the glass-grass daggers. Possibly a ring as well, depending on their uses, if any at all. But I'd find it hard to believe a coven of witches would wear rings for no reason... Also, I know were in no condition to get moving, but I don't belive sticking around here is a grand idea... Maybe inside the tree. Now that the smoke is gone.
OOC: Sorry about all the dice rolls Jim. I wasn't sure if you'd want one for each item or not, but I figured I'd rather have them, and not need them than vice/versa...

Ransy looks around for Grendel and waves to her, asking her to observe Cesar's strange behaviour.
Valla-- DM Jim Monday March 15th, 2010 5:11:23 PM
After racking his brain for an extensive amount of time, Valla comes to the conclusion that nothing in his knowledge base can help him with the ornate rings, and the only thing that comes to mind about the daggers are they are typical in their shape and form to sacrificial daggers--however, such daggers are not usually covered in poison as these had been.
Sorry, but darn good try. Knowledge:Arcana only covers magic traditions, arcane symbols, etc..., but not magic items. Spellcraft is only for spells, not items. You need a Identify spell for what you're wanting to accomplish. DM Jim
Bosk's reach -- DM Jim Monday March 15th, 2010 5:44:43 PM
ooc: James, I must apologize, I've been doing attack reach wrong for large creatures. Since Bosk is Large[tall], he has a 10ft reach all around him that disregards the diagonal length rule (basically a huge square)--the diagram is shown in the DMG pg308. If Bosk uses a reach weapon, then it's 20ft, but the diagonal length rule IS in effect (not for small or medium creatures however, which is weird). Again, sorry for the mistake, I thought it was like an area effect, like a spell.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:1/12 d20+5=18 ; d20+5=24 ; Monday March 15th, 2010 7:04:43 PM
OOC: I assumed as much myself Jim... I did a bit of reading in the DMG guide as well after I posted. But I figured posting the rolls wouldn't hurt much. It makes sense in-game as well, Valla would take any free time to investigate anything that would-be magical, that we come across; alls good buddy!
After inspecting without much luck, Valla rises from his crouched position, All I can say is the daggers are Usually "sacrificial" daggers.
He will speak to Grendel afterward, You may want to look at Cesar; He's still not awaken; Im going back under the tree to look for Bosk and Beri, and to have a look at the tree and marble head again. I need to take notes I think...
Knowing there is nothing he can do for his sick comrade, Valla attempts to make his self useful with any free time he gets.
Going into the tree he heads for the small cave, guided by his Light enhanced longsword. He spends some time at the tree; Not knowing very much about nature or plants at all, Valla figures it has something to do with a "wolds blood" experiment, that Bosk was talking about. Moving to the Marble head, he first keeps alert to if its still glowing or not. Ethier way he racks his brain, and looks at it and takes as many notes as he can... Still searching for anything to give away it might open, or have been broken from another piece... Spot: 18 Search:24

Valla -- DM Jim Monday March 15th, 2010 7:18:50 PM
It is eerily quiet and with traces of smoke still in the air, Valla studies the tree and exposed glowing marble head in the eastern antechamber. What becomes apparent after a little bit of digging is that the head is part of a larger statue buried deep into the earth. To expose the whole of the statue would take hundreds of men and years of work--far more resources than the group has at this time.

Night is fast approaching -- DM Jim Tuesday March 16th, 2010 12:25:25 PM
Having arrived at the Druid's tree sometime in the early evening, the night will be coming soon to this little part of the Wold. There is a rumbling near off and soon the group see's the Great Ranthom that brought you here and it's rider, Buiwerf, appear into the clearing. Waving a greeting he tethers the ranthom to the tree and comes to talk to the group about what happened. Astonished, he takes it all in like a child listening to a ghost story. Alistair is still several hours away, and he would be traveling at night, so he might not be coming at all this night explains the ranthom rider--it is far too dangerous to travel the grasses at night. Buiwerf also suggests the group starts a large fire to keep the night creatures away, the bigger the better.

Feeling content that he found something of intrest, he returns to the clearing with the rest of the group, watching Grendel cast her spell, which he curses himself for not putting in his own spell book...
Three necklaces, two sets of Bracers and four rings... All magical in nature.. I wonder what exactly they do... I'd guess trying them on might work, otherwise we should have them looked at once were back in Hook City. Valla eyes the set of Bracers and the necklaces. Looking for engravings of some kind or another; if there is anything he can determine he will share it with the group.
Once the Ranthom rider warns that night is coming and that the night is very dangerous here in the Sargrass plains, suggesting to build a fire for saftey. Valla nods his head; before he makes his way into the grass looking for anything that would help start and keep a good fire. He speaks with Buiwerf; By chance, do you know anything about these druid trees? We've found a dying, small tree inside this tree here he points at the druid tree in the clearing. Its small, and nearly dead. But odd isn't it? A tree growing underground inside another tree???.. Very odd indeed... Whats more, is we've found the head of a bigger statue, buired under the druids tree. Know anything about that maybe?

That was quite brave what you did, attacking four witches on your own. I admire your courage, Domi bless you, but perhaps you should ask someone to join you on such a daring manoeuvre.
In the discussion about guarding for the night, Ransy suggests: if we hide inside the tree-hole, we may have to fight in the narrow corridors there. It is much easier to fight outside, where we have ample room to swing our blades. Moreover, we can fight side to side here, taking advantage of our large number. I suggest we have two guards at each time, one at each side of our camp. I would like a full night's sleep, but I don't care if it is broken, so I can wake and guard in the middle of the night.
Ransy checks if the witches are still unconscious and uses detect evil on them as well as on Jacob (just to be sure he hasn't been converted).

As the group prepares to settle in for the night Bosk goes around the clearing healing the most injured in the party. I will take the middle shift, when there is the least amount of light and then awake the next group before dawn when I need to thank Gargul for his help today and ask once again for his blessing. I suggest the groups standing watch periodically check on the witches. We want to know when they wake up and make sure they remain in stable condition. Troublesome girls this young should be bent over thier mothers knee, not placed in Gargul's hands.
Bosk will then ask Buiwerf about the plains, likely problems at night (preditors, enemies, bugs) and how best to protect themselves at night and offer the ideas of breaking some glassgrass around the perimeter to act as calatropes or weaving grass into a wall or barrier of somesort.

Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:4/12 d20+5=11 ; d20+5=22 ; Wednesday March 17th, 2010 2:21:47 PM
Valla would take first shift, for the sake of having his full eight hours in the morning to study and prepare spells.
Assuming Valla didn't find much in the way of fire wood, he comes back with a large bundle of grass that he belives would light on fire. He begins making a make-shift fire pit, lining the outside ring with whatever he can find thats not flamable. He accepts Boks spell and thanks the 'Taur for his healing.
Don't know what I'd do without you big buddy.
He ponders to himself for a few moments, The witches wanted Jacob, they didn't kill him though. I don't quite understand. What sort of rituals are these witches capable of... Thinking of the question, he turns to Bosk, who seems to have knowledge of the witches, Bosk. The liver and heart, Jacob being alive and the caldroun. What ritual, that witches are capable of preforming, does this seem like? To me, for them to keep Jacob alive seems to be to risky for a pracitioner of Dark Arts. Why would they risk their hostage awaking, getting away or being saved. Killing him would lower this risk dramaticly. Any insight?
He offers to take first watch, with low light vision the dusk won't bother him much, and he can use the eight hours straight rest and the morning to prepare spells.
Keeping his eyes and ears open during this time. having a blanket wrapped around him to protect him from the night's cold air.

Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 15 of 20 Spells Wednesday March 17th, 2010 4:30:05 PM
The cleric pauses while he responds to Valla's question. Although he knew the witches were guilty of blasphemy, using Woldsblood to cast their dark magic, he honestly knew relatively little about what they were truly capable of. Most of his knowledge came from hearsay and and an old story book his mother used to read him. Even though years had past, he can still remember the vivid pictures it contained of witches dancing around a fire with a baby liontaur roasting on a spit. Hardly a reliable source, he knew that, but then again no one outside the Grims truly knew what Grims did and he assumed the same was true for witches. Some people would be surprised how much power one gains from people not knowing what you are and are not capable of.
I really do not know what the witches were up to. For obvious reasons they keep all knowledge of the the dark arts to themselves. If I had to guess, I would say they probably needed fresh blood to complete the spell they were casing and that they were waiting for the proper time during a ritual to kill him. The other possibility was that they were either trying to extract information from him or were planning to use him as a vessel for some sort of demonic possession. You'll remember that the cauldron was large enough to fit a full grown human and that there were small skulls around the stone chalice, most likely from previously sacrificed children or halflings.
Maikill HP 35/39, AC17 d20+5=6 ; d20+5=6 ; Wednesday March 17th, 2010 5:18:25 PM "I watch when dark, no creature get by me."
Maikill will rest until his time for watch has come.

Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 17/23 d20+2=3 ; d20+2=7 ; Wednesday March 17th, 2010 6:10:40 PM
Ransy suggests the following watch order: 1st: Ransy and Valla 2nd: Maikill and Beri 3d: Bosk and Grendel 4th: Xeron and Cesar, with Bosk preparing spells.
Ransy inspects the witches condition from time to time during his watch, and will take 10 on heal checks. If there is light enough from moon/stars to see about 20 feet, he will not use his lamp, otherwise he will. He tries to spot monsters large or small, including vermin and little pests, Spot = 3 (nat. 1) and listens for enemies: listen = 7. (Wow this random generator really has a knack for low rolls).
OOC: wow, great, my first experience points in the Wold!

Beri feels Bosk lay his powerful hand upon him and his rejuvinated by another healing spell. [b]Thank you Bosk, I feel much better now.[b]
Beriothian collects some firewood (grass) for the night's fire. It was recommended that they make the fire as large as possible, and he fully intends to have a fire that will keep the wild beasts away from the clearing. Beri will trance with his loaded crossbow sitting at his feet.
(if rolls needed for watch) listen=d20+8=13 spot=d20+8=14
ooc: Beri is fine with any shift as the light from the fire should be plenty for his low light vision.

We needed to stop the witches and I did my best to accomplish the task. Just happy I'm still here to talk about it!"
Thanking Bosk for the healing spells, Cesar readily goes to sleep, hoping to regain a bit of strength before his watch turn comes up.

ooc: updating the Story So Far page will take a little longer than I had hoped. I currently have a rough version of the story updated to January (right after we free Lilly). I must say that whoever started the story so far set the bar high. There is some excellent work there.
Hook City Updates -- DM Jim Thursday March 18th, 2010 8:23:55 PM
ooc: sorry for not posting the turn earlier today, I've been busy with other matters, but I'll try to get it out tonight that will cover most everything until the next morning. Thanks for your patience!
James(Bosk), yes the Story so Far is an excellent read, so you have your work cut out for you, but you will be fairly rewarded :)
If anyone else wants to do stuff for the game, and have time to do it, feel free to email me. An example would be when I provided the HQ maps for the characters in the Mithril Order game that I play in. Fanfiction would be cool :)

ooc: We may wish to discuss expanding the shop soon, before we spend too much money in Hook City (If we are returning to Hook CIty).
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Thursday March 18th, 2010 11:07:36 PM
ooc: Hook City? We have time, first we need to find out that Jacob is now possessed by a demon, travel across the country to get the magic items required to purge the spirit, perform the ritual while under attack from flying monkeys, and then right before we head back to Hook City we find out that the Demon was really the good guy... oops, spoiler alert.
It probably is worth discussing, it will at least give us something to talk about during tomorrows long trek. I wonder if it's possible to make the shop fire bomb proof.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:4/12 Friday March 19th, 2010 12:00:07 AM
spending money in hook city is definatly on Valla's priority list, a high point to...
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:4/12 Friday March 19th, 2010 12:07:41 PM
Valla nods at Bosks explanation, true evil has many secrets. Most we'll never uncover. But the more knowledge I can gain about the dark arts, the better I ca learn spells to counteract them. We would do goodto find a book store inside hook city. A place of magic surly has information on all magics, including the forbiddin arts.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 17/23 Friday March 19th, 2010 12:52:58 PM
Ransy answers Cesar: that's okay, next time I'll try to stay with you. Have a nice sleep.
He says to Valla while they are guarding the camp: Can you tell me something more about that large head, part of a large buried statue? HAve you seen such statues before? Can it be an idol, perhaps?
Ransy helps to keep the fire going while he is on watch. IS the light of it enough to see 20'?
Ransy has looked with detect evil at the witches and at Jacob. OOC: I can now assume they are not evil?
The Morning After -- DM Jim Friday March 19th, 2010 1:16:26 PM
Water veins stain rice fields different shades of green - Seiju, 1779
Buiwerf considers what Valla has to say and when done, he shakes his head, "Sorry sir, I don't know much about trees and such, grasses of the plains however, I do know about." Then immediately upon seeing Valla head out to the edge of the clearing, he runs over and stops him. "Never go alone into or near the tall grass. Anything could be hiding in there and it could snatch you away never to be seen again. Let's get some of your friends and get some steelgrass, it does not burn as hot, but it does burn a long time so we won't have to make any visits at night to get more fuel. Also, some of the Druid Tree's dead branches will serve as fuel for the fire too." With help from some of the other Mudders, Buiwerf and company gather a lot of fuel for the fire that night.
Grendel and Ransy maintain their care of the injured witches, and Temujin with Jacob. Using his god-granted ability, Ransy discerns that none of the witches or Jacob are evil.
Bosk considers the value of the cauldron and surmises that with a little effort, he could use his shield as a makeshift sled to drag the cauldron back to Halfdane's place. When talking to Buiwerf about night predators and glassgrass, the Ranthom rider replies, "Well, there are Bounders and Rapke's to take into account, which is why you shouldn't go into the tall grass alone. None of the plains animals seem to like the clearings that the Druid Trees make, but that doesn't stop them from attacking anything out in the open. Fire will be our friend and I believe we have enough fuel to last the night. The glassgrass you talk of takes days to properly dry for what you want to achieve, we don't use it for that purpose, only the roots." Later Bosk heals the wounds of several of his companions as the group readies themselves for sleep and setting watches.
The sky is filled with stars and it is peacefully serene. There is the crackling of the fire, it's warmth welcome as the sun sets in the west. The gentle breeze across the plains bring the sweet smell of nature to the Mudders and soon all are asleep under the canopy of the Druid Tree, except for Ransy and Valla who are on first watch.
During the next two hours, Ransy makes sure to care for the injured witches, during which time he is completely oblivious to what lies out in the tall grass. Valla on the other hand contemplates how he is going to spend all his hard earned gold--dreams of shopping in Hook City tickles his fancy as he imagines all sorts of things. Out of the corner of his eye though, he does note an odd shape. Staring at it, he wonders if he's just seeing a trick of light, but after focusing in on it and seeing it move out of sight deeper into the tall grass, he was sure. It looked like a very small child, smaller than a halfling, but it's skin was black as night and it's hair a shock of white. Buiwerf's earlier warnings about traveling out into the tall grass during the night dissuade Valla from pursuing the small native, but he made sure to pass on the warning to the next shift.
The rest of the night passes uneventfully and morning brings about an awake and very hungry Jacob, "Oh my, what is going on here? Temujin, is that you?" The doppelganger bows in greeting, "Yes, Jacob, it is I, how could you tell?" It was obviously a lame joke, since not many people look like a doppelganger, and Temujin had made no attempt to disguise himself in Jacob's presence. "These are my...companions. They rescued you from a coven of evil witches." Jacob's eye's widen, "Witches? So Callie... she was a witch? Bugger, last thing I remember I was drinking a glass of wine with her, then here I am. Damn." Looking to the group, Jacob weakly rises up to a sitting position, "Greetings my saviors, I am Jacob Halfdane and you have my thanks."
Xeron AC AC16 HP 7/13 -3 non-lethal Friday March 19th, 2010 2:25:23 PM
Xeron nods at Jacob "Welcome to the always extending club of men fooled by smarter women. You were lucky my friend to be alive. This is what happens when you are true friend like Temejin and rich powerful friends like Alistair. "
He goes back being quiet, waiting for the group to go back to Mud Town as soon as possible.
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Friday March 19th, 2010 3:04:23 PM
Maikill rises with the morning light, surprised he was not attacked in his sleep. To Bosk he says:
"Evil creature from pot no come back? We go soon, he maybe come back soon. Want pot."
Looking about, he is surprised to see the pot amongst Bosk's gear.
"What you do with evil pot? Creature come for you, leave pot here."
Maikill packs his gear quickly, eager to leave this area.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 15 of 20 Spells Friday March 19th, 2010 3:40:37 PM
Bosk woke up suddenly, still upest over the dream he had. It was a collage of every thing that had happened over the past week and seemed to have pacilular events highlighted. He thought of Rain and realized that she not only had a sister, but that she was tied to the cultist family. As he dreamt of her face it morphed into the face of the doppelganger that Temujin had turned into saying he did not attack Beri and would not turn into a mind flayer. As the Mindflayer spoke these words the stone head screamed and the tree next to it fell over and died.
As the cleric ponders the menaing of his dream Maikill asks him about the cauldron, to which he responds, Don't worry Maikill, the pot belonged to the witches and not to the creature. I think the witches use the pot to summon that thing, and I don't want them to fix it and call that thing back from where ever it came from.
After talking with Maikill, Bosk speaks to Jacob and explains thier whole adventure to him, including Vellenius and both cults, the doppelganger cutting his own brain, Alistair saving the worm, the magic stone head, tree and chalice of blood inside the cave, and the creature that came out of the pot. He hopes that Jacob can shed some light on the subject.

ooc: The Story So Far is updated on the site to the beginning of the fight with the witches. I hope to complete the rought darft Saturday and tweak it to flow better in the next few weeks. Please let me know if you think I missed any key points.
Sould I include Maikill's Uncle's involvement in his mother's death? What about the Stone head and tree in the cavern? My thought is to leave them out, and to only add them in if it becomes relevant to the main story line.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Friday March 19th, 2010 8:27:47 PM
Beriothian gathers his equipment, taking care to arrange his wine bottle in a safe location to his pack. Seeing that Jacob is now awake he turns to address him.
Good morning Jacob, it looks like you are feeling better. I am Beriothian. From the sounds of it you were unaware of the witches. Do you have any guess where these girls are from? They are the survivors from the coven that abducted you.
After talking with Jacob, Beri will address the party.
Before we leave, I believe there was still a path inside the tree that we have not explored in depth. It may be worthwhile to spend a few minutes checking it out.
Jacob -- DM Jim Friday March 19th, 2010 9:22:33 PM
Jacob tries diligently to listen to Bosk's long story, "Well, that's a lot to digest. Speaking of which, do you have anything I could eat? I'm famished."
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:4/12 d20+5=16 ; Saturday March 20th, 2010 1:27:53 AM
Valla awakes, feeling refreshed, but a bit distant. The child he saw last night somewhat disturbed him. a child... Running around the sargrass plains. Surly im mistaken... A gnome possibly?? I should ask Bewuirf. He spends a good part of the morning studying andpreparing spells. Then he will ask the ranthom rider about the 'creature' he saw. Givng as good a description he can.
He will join beri in searching through the rest of the cave under the tree.
Take 20 on the search if able, if not then 16 is me roll.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 15 of 20 Spells d20+3=20 ; Saturday March 20th, 2010 10:17:54 AM
The Horned Cleric suddenly realizes how hungry he is when Jacob mentions eating. Looking into his pack he realizes that he is down to only one bland package of rations from which the spice packet was missing. Dismayed at the prospect of eating such a meal he searches the grasses around the clearing for something a little fresher. After a little while he is able to locate enough food for 6 people, and quickly offers some to Jacob and Temujin along with three membrs of his party. As he eats his share he feels a subtle disapointment that there were no apples on the druid tree. Apples, he thought to himself, would really have finished this meal off nicely.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 17/23 d20+9=14 ; Saturday March 20th, 2010 11:11:15 AM
If Bosk cannot find any food in this clearing, Ransy will offer his own ration to Jacob and try to start a conversation with him.
Hi, I am Ransy Stormhide, a paladin of Domi. I have heard a lot about you, how you hired this group and then left Mudtown, while Temujin took your place. I hope you're willing to give us some explanations, for it all seems very strange to me. First, let me tell you that I have been wronged by Mud Town too, just like you. As I was looking for work as a guard, I was assailed from behind by unknown kidnappers. I didn't see their faces, but I awoke later in a kind of cramped box, which proved to be a locker in a storage building. I was freed by this group, but then someone started to threaten innocents, saying he would bomb them with fire unless we paid restitution for stealing out of the lockers. Such is the strange violent nature of Mud Town, from which we both have escaped. Now, I hope you're willing to help us put some of these things right. I assume you knew Temujin was a doublegaenger, didn't you? WHy did you trust him? Why didn't you tell the group anything about your leaving and your replacement? And what do you know about the illithid and the cult? Have you ever been their victim? And what do you know about this druid tree and about what is buried beneath it?"

Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 d20+1=21 ; Saturday March 20th, 2010 12:53:10 PM
Beriothian sees Bosk foraging for food and offers him a hand. He asks Buiwerf what to look for within the confines of the giant clearing that may be edible and is soon scavenging for breakfast. After a short time Beri is surprised to find that even in such a hot and dry climate he was still easily able to gather food for himself and five others.
Survival = d20+1=21 ; (Of course I get a nat 20 once we are out of combat)
Morning -- DM Jim Saturday March 20th, 2010 6:29:42 PM
Buiwerf considers what Valla tells him and comes to the conclusion that what Valla had seen was in fact a Manfri--a very small race, smaller than halflings, that live in the grasses in secluded villages and do not make contact with other races at all.
When asked if he had anything to eat, Bosk finds that he has little, except for a days worth of rations. Deciding to do some foraging within the safety of the clearing, the only thing the Taur finds are the small fruit pods that are growing on the druid tree. Gathering enough to feed half of the people there, they find the fruit to be fruity and savory, an interesting combination.
When Ransy questions Jacob, the man looks perplexed. "I'm sorry Ransy, but I have never met any of you, with the exception of Temujin and Buiwerf, before today. As for the witches, I know nothing of them either."
Beri, upon seeing Bosk foraging for food and not having enough for everyone, also joins in the search and finds a fruit pod higher up in the tree that's as big as a human man's head--which alone is large enough to feed the rest of the group.
------- ooc: guys, when you make a roll, even though you know it may succeed, please do not post the results of the roll, that is my responsibilty. Here in the plains, typical foraging is a little different, and the items that may be prevalent in a forest setting, are not present here.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 17/23 d20+6=7 ; Sunday March 21st, 2010 4:45:52 PM
Ransy is bewildered by Jacob's answer. You've never met anyone of this group? In that case, Temujin has been impersonating you even longer than I thought. Have you been to Mud Town at all lately? Do you know anything about the box Temujin was carrying to your friend, master Alistair?
After speaking to Jacob, Ransy would like to have a look at the marble head under the druid tree and see if he can relate it to his religious knowledge. knowledge religion = 7 (another natural 1...)
OOC: did our chars regain hitpoints this night? In that case Ransy is at 19 hp.
Ransy -- DM Jim Sunday March 21st, 2010 5:18:38 PM
After finding out what day it is from the group, Jacob answers that he was in Mudtown a week ago before he left under Temujin's suggestion. As for the strongbox Temujin took from Jacob, he says that it was an axe that had a very strong magical aura about it, but since he is a druid and not a wizard, he was bringing it to Alistair for indentification.

Maikill says matter of factly to Jacob.
"Your uncle like worms, not want them hurt. You know uncle good? My uncle kill mother, not know that before. Sometime uncle's not be trusted, sometime they bad."
Maikill hefts his axe and has a far-off look in his eye.

Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Monday March 22nd, 2010 8:53:12 AM "Oh, I thought Alistair your uncle. My uncle bad, thought maybe you have bad uncle too. He not uncle, so maybe he good?"
Maikill stands there with a genuine look of confusion on his face.
"Alistair have box with brain and worms."
Jacob -- DM Jim Monday March 22nd, 2010 11:12:09 AM
"Oh, okay." Jacob was unsure of what else to say to Maikill.
Further searches of the lair yield nothing new. When Jacob asks to go down again, Temujin accompanies him. When he returns to the surface he looks quite saddened. "The skulls in there, they were Manfri and quite a few of them. I know of a small Manfri village not far from here that I've visited once or twice in the past year. I would like to visit them, to see how they are, would anyone mind if I left for a bit? I would invite you all, but you have some witches to tend too. By the way, what is you plan for them, if you don't mind me asking?"
Alistair -- DM Jim Monday March 22nd, 2010 11:18:14 AM
It is about this time that Ransy receives a whispering wind message stating the following:
I have scried your location. If you need me to come to you, write the word YES in the ground, otherwisel meet you at Halfdanes.
Cesar - HP 11/29, AC 21 Monday March 22nd, 2010 11:45:31 AM "We came here to save you and luckily enough, we did... I don't think it would be a problem if you wanted to go off on your business now... and regarding the witches: maybe a mild questioning on what they were up to and what was that stuff coming out of the cauldron wouldn't be a bad idea".
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Monday March 22nd, 2010 12:55:52 PM
Xeron says to Jacob "You are a free man. You do what you want. But I know that both your Father and Alistair were worried about you. Before you go galliventing, may be you want to make contact with them."
When Cesar speaks he says "Good idea but knowing that no one has the guts to cut them to make them speak if needed, I am not sure they will speak or tell the truth. After all, why being honest with an ennemy that just saved your life. "
The rogue picks up a stick, sits on the floor and starts drawing stuff with it.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 17/23 Monday March 22nd, 2010 2:02:51 PM
Ransy says to all: I just received a message from master Alistair. He's scrying us, and if we need him here, we should write a big "yes" in the ground. But I don't think we need him here, right? Otherwise, he'll meet us at the Halfdane farm, he says. So I think Alistair can see that Jacob's alright now, and that he can tell Jacob's father so. Thus, Jacob can go his own way, and we can make our way back. Perhaps we can find or construct a few carrying poles, to which we can tie the witches to carry them more easily?
Ransy looks at the witches and tries to wake them, hoping they can stand up and walk for themselves. If one of them seems very close to recovery, he'll heal her for a few hitpoints (max 3) by laying his hands on her.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Monday March 22nd, 2010 2:43:46 PM
Xeron answers to Ransy "Well may be we should have someone with Alistair level of knowledge take a look at what is underground and may be provide some clue on that devil or demon we helped unleash by killing the head witch ..... just a thought
Xeron starts writing yes on the ground.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Monday March 22nd, 2010 4:27:12 PM
Valla sets back and listens to what is going on. Still perplexed by the marble statue in the ground., under a tree at that.
Without any care of what to do with the witches, he makes no attempt to carry or heal them. They are not going to give us information. Why would they? An unknown group of adventurers comes into their cave, starts fighting without any warning. And then we drag them out of the smoky cavern. Yes, these little girls may be thankful we saved them, but IF they know anything, I don't believe they'll tell us anything. Being so young, their probably new initiates, and don't know much in the first place.
As for Ransy message, Valla nods in agreement with Xeron, Thats the best person to have around at the moment I think. He could shed light on the withering tree and marble, head or statue below the tree. Assuming they have something to do with Druids. I highly doubt it has anything to do with the witches. I also think we should make our way back to Hook City soon; we still have a monster on the loose.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 15 of 20 Spells Monday March 22nd, 2010 5:13:34 PM
Bosk immediately comes to full attention when Jacob mentions the Manfri, the one group of people capable of making him the steelgrass armor he has been dreaming about.
Pardon me Jacob, but did you say you know the manfri? Temujin mentioned to me a few days ago that your father deals in Steelgrass and has some ties with the Manfri, and I had hoped you might know how I could get some steelgrass armor. Also, if it's not too much trouble, might I go with you to see them? I could help ensure you get there safely and I have always dreamed of meeting them.
You see, in my training as an Eye of Gargul I have heard many stories of Grymash, another Cleric of Gargul from Ratteldam, and his adventures in the Sargrass plains. Although I don't know the details, I know that he and his friends helped the Manfir of the Sargrass Plains not so long ago, and I have since wanted to meet them.
Jacob -- DM Jim Monday March 22nd, 2010 5:38:36 PM
"The Manfri do not welcome strangers, but I will convey your wishes to them, Bosk. As for my safety, well, I don't plan on walking there." Jacob steps back, "See you in a bit," then wildshapes into an eagle and takes to the skies, heading west.
Alistair -- DM Jim d100=89 ; d20+15=30 ; d20+10=19 ; Monday March 22nd, 2010 5:41:02 PM
Shortly after Jacob's departure, Alistair appears out of nothingness thanks to his teleportation spell, "Whats the emergency?!" His eyes scan the area for danger as he raises his hand in preparation to cast a spell.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 17/23 Monday March 22nd, 2010 6:02:11 PM
Ransy quickly answers Alistair: There's no emergency, sir, everything seems under control. But my friends here saw a demon escape from the cauldron and they want to talk to you about it. I haven't seen it, so you had better talk to them. He points to Xeron and Valla
Alistair -- DM Jim Monday March 22nd, 2010 6:50:25 PM
"Demon? From a witches cauldron? Interesting." Alistair looks to Xeron and valla for further clarification.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Monday March 22nd, 2010 9:20:00 PM
Beriothian bows before Alistair. The situation at present doesn't appear to be dangerous, our subsequent trips into the tree revealed no signs of the demon that was spawned, though none of us here are particularly knowledgeable about searching for such a beast. Such a creature wouldn't be able to possess an individual, would it? He asks this question while making a slight head movement toward the two witches that had been spared.
Alistair -- DM Jim Monday March 22nd, 2010 9:48:57 PM
Alistair looks at the five witches that have been spared and still unconscious, and asks, "Well, if anyone here was possessed, they would radiate evil. As I remember, Ransy there is a paladin, has he detected any evil on anyone here? If not, then why am I here, really? And where is Jacob?"
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Monday March 22nd, 2010 11:59:29 PM
Xeronlooks at Alistair "The half-orcs and the taur saw the demon or devil come out of the cauldron. I cannot see in the dark. Do the arcane signs on the cauldron make any sense to you? There are also some strange things inside the tree which I thought you might have an interested in as a master of the arcane. Regarding Jacob, I told the boy to wait for you but he turned into an eagle when he learned you were coming. Does he owe money? Did he dishonor you? It looks like he is afraid of you. "
Alistair -- DM Jim d20+10=24 (sense motive) ; Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 2:25:17 AM
"Wait, you brought me here to look at some stuff? Because it couldn't wait until you got back to Lord Halfdane's residence?" Alistair studied Xeron's face, his eyes and said boldy, "You say Jacob left because I was coming here? I say you're full of crap." Shaking his head, "Can anyone, please, tell me why you felt it necessary for me to come so urgently? Anyone? Is there a tower for sale nearby, perhaps?"
Cesar - HP 13/29, AC 21 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 5:20:21 AM "To be honest... I think it's because we don't have an idea of where to go next. As far as I know there is that tentacle thing back in Mud Town, plus the creature someone saw coming out of the cauldron and the witches cult to investigate, without taking into consideration everyone's personal goal, if they have one... and no one seems to know what to do next. So they probably decided to call you here to hear what was your opinion. I would have just voted. A fair vote is the best solution to many problems, mum used to say... and in case we actually do vote, I'd go back to look for the tentacle thing: I'm not very good at magicky stuff, plus this "thing" is already creating problems in Mud Town. Oh. There's his cultists too.. wasn't that guy we sent back home one of the baddies?",
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 5:31:29 AM
Ransy cannot help but smile a little at Alistair mentioning 'a tower for sale'. he says: Very ironic, sir, I like that. Indeed, yesterday evening, I looked for evil in the witches and in Jacob, but I saw none. Otherwise, I would have alerted the group.
Ransy, feeling uncomfortable, waits for Valla or somebody else to answer Alistair's questions, thinking: I hope they don't upset him any more than they already did. I'd like to work for master Alistair in the future, but this incident is not going to count in our favor. Unless we can convince him that the demon really poses an urgent threat. But I don't see how we could argue that.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 d20+1=21 ; Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 9:30:46 AM I wouldn't say the reasons are urgent. More location oriented. We cannot have you look at the marble head under the tree. Or the withering tree; uner the tree, if we are at halfdanes. Valla by this time figures the wizard is to impatient in his life; to truly appreciate most things of this nature, but continues anyways.
If you have time, Alisitar, I think you may be of help determining if this statue and tree are related to the witches, or the druid tree, or here by happenstance. This; the fact that their could be a spirit on the loose, and we are a bit stuck in a directional situation, are the reason we called you here. Yes we help some people out and did a good thing, but we really don't know what we've stopped or whats really going on.
Figuring Alisitar is just going to have them all return to Halfdanes anyways, Valla begins packing his spell book and preparing for the next eventful day in the life of a "Hero to be".
Also, Jacob may or maynot have left because your coming; but he did leave, on his own will and aganist our wishes. Turned into an eagle and flew off he did. Visiting the Manfri I believe, Having his pack and equipment together, spell book stowed away, Should we have a look under the tree Sir?
Diplomacy: 21 Nat 20! Interesting time to roll that....
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 10:29:50 AM
Still sitting on the ground, Xeron looks up at Alistair. "I am so sorry your highness, excellency, holyness, Magistar Alistair that we disturbed you from your satin sheets as virgins were feeding you grapes. We just thought you had an interest in the arcane and in Jacob wellbeing. After all you hired us to save him. You say that he did not run away, I say we save the boy from his grave, feed him, heal him if needed and with his friend Temujin around, he decides to fly away. Strange behavior I would say."
When Alistair makes the nasty comment about the tower for sale, Xeron explodes "Just because you are smarter and more powerful than all of us combine and you could turn us into coackroaches does not make you better than us. You think you so speical because you leave in bloody Hook City with its riches and nice weather? Well, this is all fake and build on the blood and tears of the people of Mud Town. While you enjoy your luxury and your sun, people are starving in Mud Town and acting like animals just to survive and getting sick because it is always raining. It is a lawless place that feeds nasty Hook Town. So you might act high and mighty but you are not better than the cockroach you can easily turn me into. And if you want to take me out, do it now. None of the group will stop you and they are all in awe of you and would love to work for you. Plus I am the weakest member of the group and as citizens of Mud Town, I know too well what destiny is reserved to the weakest member of the group. "
He lowers his eyes and restarts drawing on the dirt with his stick, showing no care about what is about to happen to him. He has spoken his piece and expressed his anger at the unfairness of the economical situation in Mud Town to relieve his anger but he had done to a powerful wizard with a short fuse. He knew that crossing this kind of person was a really stupid thing to do but he could not control himself. Images of his mother getting sick in the mud as she was always wet are fueling his anger. In addition, the fact that he was totally useless in the tree fight is eating him from the inside.
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 11:15:46 AM
Maikill looks back and forth between the wizard and Xeron. He shrugs his shoulders and starts to look through his pack. Pulling out a piece of jerkey he starts to chew on it. To nobody in particular, he says:
"I hungry for meat. Fruit not good way to start day."
He then repacks his things and gets ready for whatever it is that will happen next.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 15 of 20 Spells Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 11:24:00 AM Pardon me Alistair, I was not part of the decision to have you come here. I was speaking to Jacob at the time. Inside the cave he saw a stone chalice filed with blood and surrounded by Manfri skulls. I believe it was these skulls and his concern for he Manfri that hastened his departure.
As for the daemon, I probably saw it best. You see, we had been fighting a powerful witch in mithral armor, and every time we hit her she would glow yellow and be healed. Eventually Maikill landed a powerful blow that split her armor and killed her outright. At that time, from the center of the cauldron rose a humanoid shape, darker than black, that emanates ultimate evil. With it's taloned clawed hands it pulled itself up and it stood erect in the cauldron. It's face was that of darkness and somehow it's eyes were even darker than the rest of it's body--completely void of any light or substance. It opened it's smoking fang laced mouth and issues a silent cry of joy or pain, which exactly, I don't known. Raising it's arms toward the ceiling, it quickly dissipated into nothingness--leaving the chamber as it was before, completely dark and filling with smoke.
I apologize if this is nothing. This magic is foreign to us, but we guessed it to be over our head. My guess is that the others thought it best to call you, to judge things for your self. We don't know what to look for and may not have brought you the information you needed.
Alistair -- DM Jim d20+20=24 ; d20+5=22 ; Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 12:06:32 PM
After listening to Cesar, Ransy, Valla and Bosk, Alistair just shakes his head. "I'm not here to babysit, nor am I your mentor. You're all grown men and women, if you can't make decisions for yourself, then get a job somewhere safe where you don't have to make such choices. As for the witches cauldron, I'm no expert, but some witches imbue them with a spirit to help them with their tasks, sorta like a wizards familiar."
Acquiesing to Valla's desire for the mage to inspect the buried statue and withering tree, not out of curiosity, but more to kill time until Jacob's return, Alistair begins to follow Valla until Xeron's tirade against the old wizard. "You've got some issues, boy." Alistair says when Xeron is done. "But you are right about one thing, I couldn't give a crap about Mudtown, or the people in it. We don't live under tyrannical rule, everyone there can leave, do whatever, stake out a new life somewhere else--they're just too cowardly to do it. And as for being better than you, yes, yes I am--I think that is very apparent except to the deaf, dumb and blind." Alistair then follows Valla down under the Druid's Tree.
Once underground, he studies the Marble head casually and the tree. Valla can see he's not too concerned about either. "Well Valla, the statue, I don't know anything about. I'd say based on the fact it is under the tree and so deep down, that maybe it's a 1000 years old and was made to venerate someone important. The withering tree, who knows, your guess is as good as mine."
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 1:29:02 PM
Xeron does not react to Alistair's reply. He knows would be just spitting in the wind. He think about what Alistair said and his mother and a painful smile appears on his face. He knows the mage represents the attitude of Hook City. "Who care about Mud Town? They are there by choice "
It is the easy ethical way out to help them sleep at night. Blame the victim. Suddenly, he feel tired although it is morning. Tired of being unable to do anything about Mud Town, tired of feeling useless in the group, tired of having no one and being alone.
He breaks the stick and gets up, ready to leave as soon as possible, a dark cloud on his face.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 3:26:50 PM
Valla watches Alistar look over the oddities under the druids tree. With his reply, Valla is a bit let down. At least we can rule out the statue being related to the witches magic. If it was dug up it would surly kill the tree its buired under. I'd like to help preserve the nature of the wold. Without it Mud Town would be the norm. Thank you Magister; for at least trying. Valla shows his respect to the accomplished wizard, but still doesn't like him much.
Valla makes his way back outside; Bosk, Grendel, anyone. THoughts of what to do next? After returning to Hook City of course; that is a must do in my book.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 d20+2=5 ; Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 4:52:48 PM
At Xeron's outburst against Alistair, Ransy throws his hands in the air, turns away and mumbles softly: oh my .. He is clearly dismayed at this interchange of words, thinking: Xeron is prejudiced against Alistair, and Alistair is prejudiced against Mud Town. Here goes our chance for cooperation. Still I have to save those witches, in the name of Domi's goodness
He answers Valla: I think we have to bring these witches to the Halfdane farm. Let master Halfdane interrogate and care for them.
Ransy looks around for carrying poles for making stretchers. spot/search = 5
Alistair -- DM Jim Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 5:19:08 PM
The old man just shrugs his shoulders when Valla talks about the withering tree dying if the statue was dug up, "It's just a tree." Saying no more, he heads topside and upon seeing Buiwerf, goes to talk to him privately. The pair sequester themselves on the other side of the tree and speak in hushed whispers.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 d20+5=22 ; Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 6:34:43 PM
Valla rolls his eyes at the Wizards misunderstanding of what he said... O well... Humans wouldn't understand curiosity of the elves. One day, if he lives long enough, I'll show him! From this point on, Valla has, yet another, promise to himself toward greatness.
Good Idea, out of our care is the best place for them.
As Alistar and Buiwerf go and talk privately, Valla attempts to listen in.

Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 d20+5=20 ; Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 8:15:06 PM
Maikill's ears perk up as he hears whispering from the other side of tree. A concerned look appears on his face. He grabs Grendel and Bosk and whispers to them.
"He say he kill us with fireball, take dead bodies to witch. We need attack him first. Allistair."
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 8:51:25 PM
Xeron sees Maikil whispering to Grendel and Bosk but still pays no attention. His eyes wanders and he sees the 13 year old witch he did not kill. "Will she take advantage of that second chance? Or will she fall prey to evil and finish dead like the others? ================================ OOC: Unless specifically told, Xeron will be lost in his thoughts, which is expected after rolling a 1 on listen.
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 8:57:00 PM
Maikill will then move away from the group, keeping the tree between himself and Allistair.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 29 of 31 Spells Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 9:01:32 PM
Using his hands to motion the others to him, Bosk silently calls the others to him while placing one finger over his lips. He then writes in the dirt waht Maikill told him. After everyone has read the message he will erase it with his foot.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 d20+8=19 ; Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 9:34:40 PM
Beriothian listens to the arrogant exchange between Xeron and Alistair I wonder if Xeron realizes that he is merely a gnat buzzing in the ear of the mighty wizard? If he wishes to commit suicide I can't stop him, but for a man so concerned with fair treatment he sure doesn't give any consideration to the lives of those closest to him.
A short time later Beri hears the murmur of Alistair whispering, but fails to make out what they are saying... but shortly Bosk's writing answers this question. Beriothian looks at the group solemnly. His crossbow was of little use in their earlier, and he has doubts that it would be any more useful in this fight. He takes a sip of his water and ponders what to do, being careful not to let a drop spill, lest some wild beasts charge in... that's when an idea occurs to him. Beri may have doubts about what he can do to Alistair, but perhaps if he tosses water on the Wizard more powerful beasts will tear him to shreds... but anything that could harm Alistair would likely destroy them as well. Perhaps if the Ranthom is in a position where it could run towards Alistair without harming the party the.... Beri briefly shares this thought with Temujin, who sharing Jacob's knowledge of the Sargrass Plains would likely know if this idea is suicide or would have some merit.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 9:37:58 PM
ooc: Everyone may want to make sure their heal is updated and that if they leveled that they have updated their stats/spells/feats.
Alistair -- DM Jim Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 10:12:45 PM
Alistair walks back to the group, as he rounds the tree he see's everyone set for battle and he says, "You know what, you're a bunch of freakin' idiots. The next time I try to have a private conversation and one of you tries to eavesdrop on me," he points his finger at Valla, "I'm just going to turn them into a chicken and boot their ass so high into the sky, they'll think they can fly." Alistair turns his still extended finger upward, but replaces it with his middle finger, aimed still at Valla. Turning and shaking his fist with a little emphasis still at Valla before lowering it, he walks back to resume his conversation with Buiwerf.
ooc: Alistair made a Spot 28 to notice Valla trying to eavesdrop on him :)
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 11:31:46 PM
Valla is speechless. He didn't really believe that the wizard would do such a thing, but then again, who really knows?
The elf smiles and nods his head at the old wizard; Maybe your not so bad after all; old man...
Valla is now ready to leave... :)
Cesar - HP 13/29, AC 21 d20+2=11 ; Wednesday March 24th, 2010 4:57:32 AM
(Listen =11)
Cesar just sits where he was, listening to the discussion with mild interest.
He never was one for big rows and quarrels... as a matter of fact he wasn't even the type for squabbles. All he wanted was to be left to his own business and to see those around him as happy as possible.
Looking towards the group, Cesar starts wondering if anyone of the was happy... well... they probably are happy of having survived the fight against the witches all in one piece, but on the other half they were cheesed off by Alistair's reaction to their summons. He didn't like that man, but it seemed the rest of the group had taken some shine towards him, so he'd just better tag along.
After a short while he decides to walk towards the witches and see if anyone of them was awake...
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 5:00:26 AM
Ransy is too busy (with searching wood and making stretchers) to eavesdrop on Alistair, and even if he was not busy, that's not what he would normally do, unless he had a good reason to distrust someone. Ransy has a good feeling about Alistair, as he represents some kind of much-needed authority. So Ransy doesn't want to antagonize him further. He does notice it when Bosk writes in the ground, but he is perplexed by the message, it doesn't fit what he knows. such a powerful wizard, if he'd wanted to kill us, he'd have done so much earlier, he thinks.
AFter the situation is resolved, he says mildly annoyed: can somebody help me with making stretchers, please, instead of fooling around?
Cesar - HP 13/29, AC 21 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 7:23:46 AM "Coming!"
Cesar stops on his way towards the captured witches and goes to help Ransy with the stretchers...
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 9:06:11 AM
When Bosk write on the ground what Valla heard, Xeron eyes lights up at the idea of cutting the wizard or dying trying to. Then he realizes he was all a joke and his anger toward the Magistar grows even more. He knows the type: your typical bully, so full of his power he thinks he can treat everyone like dirt. He may wear the fancy clothes but deep inside he is as dirty and as nasty and the stuff that lives in Mud Town.
When Ransy asks for help the rogue says "Fine, whatever get us faster out of here and away from that thing as he points to Alistair.
He will help Ransy to the best of his abilities, with his only motivation to get out of here as soon as possible.
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 10:34:06 AM
Maikill lowers his axe, and looks perplexed at the group.
"Why he trick me? He smart and I stupid. Mother says smart people should be kind, they given so much. She also say they usually not kind. Should be though."
He walks over towards Ransy and helps to make stretchers. Under his breath he mutters: "Good thing for wizard I no need kill him now."
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 11:20:37 AM
Beriothian realizes what Valla had done to provoke Alistair and lets out a little laugh over the events that have transpired. It's good to know that Alistair has a sense of humor. Still, if our party doesn't learn to think before they act we are going to find ourselves in more than our share of tight spots. Beri thinks back to his attack tumbling behind the witches last night and reminds himself that he also needs to do better about this. As Beriothian repacks his equipment he wonders how long it will be before Jacob returns.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 11:29:21 AM
At the request to help make stretchers, Valla ignores it. No reason to help a coven of witches, young or old, stupid or not. They're not my problem...
The elf paces the 'camp' slowly, waiting to leave.
Alistair -- DM Jim Wednesday March 24th, 2010 12:44:57 PM
Finishing up his talk with Buiwerf, Alistair returns to the group and see's they're finished making some stretchers for the injured witches and are readying to leave. "You're not waiting for Jacob to return?"
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 2:57:19 PM
Still helping Ransy putting the strechers together, Xeron replies to Alistair "Listen Fireball, we asked Jacob to wait and instead he turned into an eagle and flew to see the Manfri. He did not ask to wait for him and by flying, he will be faster that the mastodon over there. Unless your superior intellect knows for sure that Jacob will be back and we should wait for him, we rather get going. As you have noticed, when I am gone, Mud Town is missing its village idiot. "
Alistair -- DM Jim Wednesday March 24th, 2010 3:22:08 PM
Alistair replies with a sly smile, "Uh-huh, okay genuis. So when you show up at Lord Halfdane's without Jacob, you think you're going to get a reward or something? I never saw him."
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 4:05:05 PM
Xeron looks at Alistair "May be we are the ones who brought him to the head witch or something like that, right after the fireball. Or before. I forgot. We might not bring him back his son but Halfdane can pick a daugther in law among the witches if he wants " he says smiling as he points to the unconscious women and girls. "After all, if the boy had a partner at home, he would not go galiventing with smarter women than he is and ends up buried as part of a ritual.".
He continues looking at Alistair "I am sure that if you wait with us, the other ones in my group will be more than happy to make it comfortable although I doubt we have satin sheets and any of them can feed you grapes. However, I am sure they are dying to be able to talk to a super poweful mage or simply talk about Hook City. Me, I just hope Mud Town can survive without its village idiot. I am done bothering you. "
He goes back to his task.
Alistair & Temujin -- DM Jim Wednesday March 24th, 2010 4:21:35 PM
Alistair shakes his head, "Definitely has a screw loose." Temujin interrupts and says, "Master Jacob did intend on returning, from what I gather about his thoughts."
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 29 of 31 Spells Wednesday March 24th, 2010 5:38:54 PM
Bosk shakes his head, clearly embarrassed by Xeron's behavior. He begins looking round the clearing when Temujin mentions reading Jacob's thoughts. Well then, I guess that settles it. It would make no sense to leave before he gets back.
Wondering what to do with his spare time, the Cleric addresses the doppelganger. Temujin, would you mind if I read that dungeoneering book of your while we wait? I found it fascinating, and would love to read some more.
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 5:53:30 PM
Maikill tosses his pack to the ground and sits down on it. Looks like it might be a while.
Addressing Xeron he says:
"I know you angry, me angry too. Good to stop and think what angry about. Me, I am angry with uncle. Maybe angry at people who taunt me when little, but not now. They not know better. Mother says it okay to forget, no need always fight. When I fight, I like win. No win if no choose fight. Maybe I teach you how I fight. Get very angry when fight, and then forget it. Help me be calm later. You like I teach you."
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 6:37:44 PM
Valla is surprised at Xeron's outburst, but not embarssed. Not wanting to comment, and feeling only slightly better about Alistar than Xeron does, Valla starts to wonder what to do with his time.
He sets his pack down; along with his staff. Pulling out his longsword, he begins going through different flows of excerise. Merely making it up as he goes along probably makes him seem alittle silly. He's heard stories of fantastic Woldian Blade Singers, even if a long shot, better use with a sword is never a good thing.
Mid-way through spinning about; bringing his sword across and up from the ground, Valla trips and lands face first in the grass... Dropping his sword, it hits the ground with a thud. Grunting, Valla pushes himself to his feet. Picking up his sword, he begins again, sure to fall but he keeps trying.
Im welcome to lessons. If anyone is feeling up to it...
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 6:51:09 PM
Ransy grins towards Xeron and Alistair, and says: I am not a bootlicker who carries satin sheets; I just think that things are getting out of hand in Mud Town with all the kidnappings, cultists, brain eaters and so forth. Not to mention the mystery figure who used extortion as a means for letting us pay for freeing innocent people. So at the moment, one who knows all this, should have quite some courage to stay in Mud Town at all. You can hardly call them cowards now, Master Alistair. And frankly, I believe that the people who've got the power to do something about this misery, should take their responsibility. It's not right to say: "ah, these people are weak, it's not worth the effort." That sounds rather irresponsible to me. I don't think the gods would want us to stand by and watch evil do it's work unchallenged.
But more to the point at present: perhaps Jacob is one of those rare people who always get into trouble, no matter where they go. Consider: he got into trouble in Mud Town, only to be saved by a dopplegaenger; when he got back here, he got interested in the wrong girl, drugging him and abducting him for a strange witch ritual; and now he has gone to a Manfri village, of which we know that it must have been raided quite recently, because many of the Manfri ended their lives here in the cauldron. So he seems to me the kind of guy who goes looking for trouble and finds it, time and again. Which raises the question: does Buiwerf know where the Manfri village is?
Alistair & Temujin -- DM Jim Wednesday March 24th, 2010 8:10:12 PM
Temujin replies to Bosk's query with a slight hesitation, "They're not my books, but I see no reason why Jacob would be upset if I let you read one."
"That's an interesting hypothesis, Ransy," replies Alistair,"but one that begs the question, if you think it's courageous to remain in Mudtown, what are you and the rest of this group doing here? No, I think you're just making excuses for those that shirk the responsibility of finding a better life. I was not raised with satin sheets, nor any servants that catered to my every whim, I am a self-made man as I suspect you are. Everyone has a choice, even if that choice is to do nothing but complain about how bad they have it, all the while being to cowardly or lazy to make a change in their life for the better."
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 8:35:52 PM Alistair is right. We have already seen several people leave Mudtown to look for a better life. Granted, it turned out that they were cultists, but that shouldn't make a difference. Besides, from the looks of it Mudtown survives by taking advantage of merchants waiting to enter Hook City. I would be surprised to learn that MudTown was left in the cold when the magical Hook City was created, it's much more likely that some unwise entrepreneur built a tavern on the cursed patch of mud and set the foundation for the cesspool that has spawned around it.
ooc: Valla, I wanted to check if you were going to be able to work on the store, I remember you had asked about software for that earlier.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Wednesday March 24th, 2010 10:04:40 PM
Having reflected on the low hit rate he had during the fights he has had since joining the group Beriothian walks over to where Bosk is getting ready to read. You seem very excited about this Steelgrass armor. From what I've heard a breast plate made from this would be "light" and the armor, while providing no additional protection, would be less of a hindrance to me than my studded leather. Is that true? Does such armor really exist?
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 29 of 31 Spells Wednesday March 24th, 2010 10:43:27 PM
Bosk looks up from the book and raises an eyebrow. Sounds about right from what I've heard, but I have never actually seen such armor. I've only ever heard about it in stories and don't know exactly how they compare to what we have. I just remember it from these stories from when I was young and training to be a cleric. They shaped how I envisioned myself and who I wanted to become. Although I always pictured myself in steelgrass armor, I never actually thought I would find any. That's why when I learned about Jacob's connection I jumped at the opportunity.
Jacob -- DM Jim Wednesday March 24th, 2010 11:34:02 PM
After about an hour, Jacob returns, this time as a small sparrow. Changing back into his human form, Jacob takes a deep sigh, "Whew, that was not a good choice, way to small, I almost got eaten three times." Brushing himself off, he walks over to Bosk. "Good news my friend, well, good for you and any that wish to buy Steelgrass armor from the Manfri, they've agreed to let you buy some armor, this is a great honor. Also, they would like all of you to attend a party honoring you."
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Thursday March 25th, 2010 2:47:44 AM
Xeron looks at Beri and shakes his head. "got ot love someone who comment about a place they know nothing about and give lectures. Especiallly after we had to save their sorry butt. Not worth my time.
He hits Maikil on the side of the arm "May be you teach me to go crazy and cut people in two. That would be cool, real cool "
He approaches Valla. "I can teach how to look for vital organs and other sneaky way to fight if you want "
Cesar - HP 13/29, AC 21 Thursday March 25th, 2010 4:16:09 AM "A party for us?", replies Cesar with a blatantly surprised look on his face
"I... never had a party thrown in my honor! But shouldn't we do something about the young witches? We can't just keep them tied up in a corner while we are being honored and all..."
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Thursday March 25th, 2010 10:55:49 AM "Good armor made from grass? Maybe I get some. Chain shirt good though and it made of metal. Metal hard, not get hit by witches. Maybe it magic?"
Maikill is ready, and the thought of a party makes him even more anxious.
Jacob -- DM Jim Thursday March 25th, 2010 12:07:06 PM
"Yes, a party, after what you did to the witches, they're very grateful." Jacob answers to no one in particular. "It seems that these witches drugged their watering hole and took off with about 20 of the Manfri, and we know now what became of them. We should bring the skulls with us too, so they can properly bury them as is their fashion. So, who's going and who's staying?"
Alistair pipes up, "I'll be staying, those little buggers irritate me."
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Thursday March 25th, 2010 12:19:56 PM
Valla nods to Xeron; The roguish ways arn't really the style Im looking for Xeron. I appreciate your intrest and willingness to teach. But to become a Blade Singer I would need to be graceful and deadly with a longer sword. Daggers and shadows just arn't the way of a Blade Singer.
When Jacob returns, mentioning a party in their honor. Valla smiles, this wold be a nice way to meet the Manfri; Bosk. The steel grass armor may intrest me as well; if its a bit easier to cast spells in that is. Although we do still have unfinished buisness in Hook City. Don't forget that friends.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Thursday March 25th, 2010 12:25:25 PM
Ransy reacts to what Alistair said earlier, quote: "I think you're just making excuses for those that shirk the responsibility of finding a better life." Ransy's reaction: what do you mean exactly by "responsibility of finding a better life"? Not every person gets a chance to raise to a better level in society. Disasters, evil, bad education, disease and eternal mud ..., such things may keep people down, no matter how hard they try. That's why we can't stand by and let evil go unchallenged!
Later he says: okay, I'll go with you to the Manfri, if only to check there are no possessed creatures there.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 29 of 31 Spells Thursday March 25th, 2010 12:57:23 PM
The Horned Cleric is brightend by the news. I would consider it an honor to dine with the Manfri, but I hope you didn't make too much of what we did. I mean, we did what anyone in our position would have done, right?
Although excited about the opportunity to meet the Manfri and now having a connection to the steelgrass armor, Bosk becomes slightly worried. I had always thought that on the rare occasions outsiders received steelgrass that it was as thanks or payment for a quest. I have never heard of anyone being able to buy such armor. This is a great honor. I only wish we had a chance to sell our stuff at Hook City first. They might consider my request dishonorable if I cannot afford their price, and I have no idea how much such armor might sell for. They might mark the price way up since we are outsiders. On the other hand, such material and knowledge is common to them, and they might not place a high value on it. The value and rarity might come from the rarity of the people themselves and their reclusive nature. I wish I knew, but surely it would be a bigger dishonor to refuse their hospitality. After thinking a moment another thought comes to mind. Do the manfri use gold coin? What is "buying" armor is putting us in their debt and the payment is a future favor? I hate being in people's debt, although I would most likely be willing to assist them with anything they asked of me in the first place.
As the others talk Bosk is left to his thoughts.
Jacob -- DM Jim Thursday March 25th, 2010 1:15:10 PM
Jacob cocks an eyebrow, "Bosk, you really think that way and say you're from Mudtown?" Looking at the witches laid out before them, "Most of these girls, women, are from the nearby village, about an hour east of here. It is a small village. Last time I was there, was about a year ago, for a particular celebration they have. If the number of witches here are any inidication, I'd say half the women of that village died or battled here. What are your intentions with them anyways? I doubt my father will welcome them on his farm."
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 29 of 31 Spells Thursday March 25th, 2010 1:36:43 PM To be honest, I have only been in Mudtown a week, but I believe that most my people, the people of Minotaur Isle, would feel the way I do. As for Mud Town, although we have already encountered some difficulties, I think I can safely say we have had at least a small positive influence on the town. People and places can change if given the chance.
Turning to look at the witches he says, We haven't decided what to do with them yet. We do not know the laws of these lands or even who the authority would be. Because of the young age of the girls, we though some of them may have been lead astray, we didn't realize their mothers may also have been here. This will take a little thought, but I think we planned to wake at least one or two of them up to try to learn more about the daemonic thing we saw. We need to know if it needs to be hunted down, why it was summoned, and what it is capable of. If you have any suggestion, we would be glad to hear them. You probably know more about how things are done in the plains than we do.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Thursday March 25th, 2010 1:42:17 PM
Xeron interjects "Jacob, none of these folks are from Mud Town. There are foreigners who wants to go into Hook City. But as you know they are stuck in Mud Town and doing a bad job staying out of trouble. One was found dying on the street and two were stuck in lockers. I am the only full blooded mudder here and trust me when I say I am confused at the way of the foreigners. First they tried to kill their ennemies then they save them. I still do not understand but I accept it."
He looks at the witches "My first instinct would be to sell them as slaves or to a brothel but it would not be a good thing so we will not do it. So we will probably let them free, this way they can go back to their village, recruit new people and grow stronger. That is indeed a good thing because it would break the cycle of use and abuse by the stronger. "
Finally he approaches Valla and whispers "Valla, what does one do when a party in thrown in one's honor? No one ever threw me a party. Can I just stay there in silence? Any ideas? "
Jacob -- DM Jim d20+10=12 ; Thursday March 25th, 2010 1:43:13 PM
Jacob shrugs his shoulders, "I say turn them loose. From the tale you've told me, none of them are truly witches except the three who cast spells at you. As for the thing you saw, I don't know about witchy stuff."

ooc: can we get a list of the current witches HP after a nights rest under Grendel's care so we know how much healing they need.
I am all for freeing them, but I want to ask them a few questions before they go. Grendel and Ransy, care to help me wake the children up. Sorry, no, Heal skill does not relate how many Hp's they have at the current moment. Maybe a Status spell, but nothing else at the moment you're using will tell you how much hp's they have.
Also, the five females range in age from 13 to 30.

One by one Bosk lays his hands on the witches and says a prayer to Gargul asking for a delay of his judgment. Lord Gargul, I ask that you spare the lives of these women today that they might live and tell their village the error of their ways. Let their repentance be a light to many which will destroy the darkness of the blasphemous teachings of that village. They now know of your strength and might, let them to know of your mercy and the delicate balance which you maintain. Use them as your vessel to carry to truth to those who would otherwise not hear it.
After waking the witches he will question them as to what they were doing and why. If not included in their story he will also as; What the chalice was for. Why the manfri were killed. What they know about the head and the tree. What came out of the cauldron. If there are other witches in their town, and if the men knew what they were doing, and details on how they cast their magic, what type of spells they use, and general witch information. He will then make them promise to change their ways and preach to them about Gargul.
He will then, assuming they promised, tell the eldest that Gargul will hold them to that promise. At that time he will break the goblin seal under his arm and turn her purple saying, Gargul will be keeping his eye on you. The sign will be gone before you reach your village. (Bluff 19)
Action =============================== Spontaneously convert all 3 lvl 1 spells and domain spell to CLW Heal HP: 5,5,9,8 Bosk will heal the two youngest first, followed by the oldest, and then the next youngest. If one of them fails to wake he will cast CmW in place of his cantrips to finish the job.
Break goblin seal and turn eldest purple (I assume captives are now part of our group until we release them) Bluff d20=19
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Thursday March 25th, 2010 2:50:04 PM
Valla shakes his head; Letting the witches go seems like the only option we really have. Selling the girls as slaves or wenches isn't right. No matter what evil deeds they've done or tried. I'd rather them be imprisoned somewhere, under someones guard and watch, which would be real justice I believe. Although we don't have the authority nor the contacts to make that happen. Any way it goes, I agree we should question them, more info is never a bad thing. But lingering here to long may be.
With Xeron's question Valla smiles and reply's; Sitting in silence is hardly a way to appreciate and accept a party or honoring ceremony. Hold your head high and proud Xeron. You skills may not have decided the recent battle, but nethier did mine. Your time will come to outshine everyone else; its a matter of fate my boy. Valla wraps his arm around Xerons neck, patting the rogue on his opposite shoulder; Most of our comrades will never understand you my friend, my advice at the party is to mingle when you feel comfertable; with who you want. Answer questions when asked, and tell your tale to the little people. I'd say they'll find it fascinating. A peoples that keep themselves isolated on a strange plain are probably not educated on the rest of the Wold. Hearing about Mud Town, a city so different from their own may spark their intrests and you'd become the life of the party. Still smiling; Valla lets Xeron go, pats him on the back and gives him a 'thumbs up' sign. Just be yourself, and don't worry about insulting or offending anyone; the party is in honor of our group and the good we've done, unintentionaly, for the Manfri. They'll be giving thanks, not a lecture.
After attempting to calm Xeron, Valla speaks to Jacob; How long will this party last? When is it to begin? Going back to Hook City to sell some things may be crucial to purchasing the Steel Grass armor. Assuming the Manfri even deal with gold; do they? Valla begins a thought process to confuse himself, which is why its a 'thought' process.
They are isolated, in the sargrass plains. Why would they deal with coin? Of course! If they traded with other cities nearby. Are there other cities nearby? Where in the Wold are we? I have no clue where the Sargrass plains are located after the migration... Coin would be useless to these people; trading goods for goods would probably suffice for a nomadic tribe.... We'll soon find out I'd guess...
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Thursday March 25th, 2010 5:16:09 PM
Ransy says: the witches cannot be freed as if nothing happened; where would be the justice in that? I think the Manfri are the main victims of this witch coven, so in the absence of any other legal authority, it's up to them to put them through trial and determine the punishment. As far as I know, most societies have a kind of system for dealing with thieves and other criminals; so I expect the Manfri village will have such a system too, though it may be rudimentary, I really don't know. But what would you say if 20 of your friends and/or relatives were killed and the offenders were set free? No, let's take these women to the Manfri; it's up to them to punish or to let go free.
Jacob -- DM Jim Thursday March 25th, 2010 8:00:40 PM
Jacob thinks about it a moment, "What you say has a ring of truth about it, Ransy. In all fairness, taking them to the Manfri as prisoners would be the right thing to do, but be aware, they'll probably be eaten."
13yr old Witch -- DM Jim Thursday March 25th, 2010 8:03:26 PM
Bosk sets about the task of healing the rescued witches one at a time. After two prayers of healing, the youngest witch wakes up. Her eyes blinking to take in what's before her, she screams in horror at the sight of beast looming over her. Reaching for a dagger that's not there, she begins to scamper backwards to get away from Bosk. "Stay away from me you foul beast!"

Berothian sits on a tree root, watching the scene with Bosk unfold. He walks over to the two of them to try to them and offers what assistance he can.
I'm sorry if my large friend here gave you a bit of a fright. Waking up to his big goofy grin can be a little much, but he is an excellent doctor. You are the first one to wake up, and Bosk here just needs a little information so he can help the others heal faster.
You are from the small farming village to the east of here I believe. Do you remember how you got here? Do you know any of the other people that are recovering over there? If your mom or sister is among them I am sure Bosk would be happy to help them next
If the little girl warms up to Bosk Beriothian with leave him to finish up, and if the little girl is responding more to him he will stay and help.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Friday March 26th, 2010 5:33:15 AM
Ransy answers Jacob: They might want to eat them, but I think we can discourage them from doing that. We could tell them that we consider eating humans to be a very evil thing and that we will not allow it. If they want to honor us for eradicating the witch coven, they should at least take into account our views of right and wrong. Second, we could say that eating these witches might not be entirely safe, because they are drugs-users who have also had poison in their possession. So eating them might cause illness, though of course we do not know that for sure. Third, that if they leave them alive, there are probably relatives of these women in the human village nearby, who might be willing to pay some compensation to the Manfri for the release of their relatives.
Jacob -- DM Jim Friday March 26th, 2010 6:45:12 AM
Jacob shrugs his shoulders again, "A lot of if's, Ransy. It's up to you guys, you may well anger them so much, they may renege on selling you that Steelgrass armor."
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Friday March 26th, 2010 8:21:29 AM
Ransy answers Jacob again: but if we deny them their right to see the witches punished, they might get just as angry. Difficult... So what you're saying, Jacob, is that those Manfri are a bunch of cannibals who cannot be trusted to deal fairly with the witches, nor to listen to reason. Well, if that's true, then indeed it would be wrong to deliver these women to them. In fact, in that case, I wouldn't even want to be part of their party. A party with untrustworthy cannibals? I don't think so. Perhaps I should remain here with Alistair and try to talk some sense into these women?
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Friday March 26th, 2010 9:17:23 AM
Maikill gets an annoying look on his face as he overhears Ransy's talk with Jacob. Finally, he can not help himself. He gets up and walks over to them. Looking at Ransy, he starts what is an unusual speech for Maikill.
"Why you say that Manfri not deal fairly with witches? They have right to kill them, they kill Manfri. What they do with bodies is no matter. We do not know custom here, but I know that where there is no water there is not much food. They eat witches, no matter me. Maybe witches taste good. You say they no listen reason, I think you know listen reason. You not at home, people different from others. Listen to their reason, maybe you learn that."
And with that long winded speech, he is finished. Much like the rage in a fight, it is done. He goes and sits down.
Cesar - HP 13/29, AC 21 Friday March 26th, 2010 10:09:11 AM "No. We can't just give them over to the Manfri. Look a them, most of them are no more than children! But we can't just set them free here... oh bother! I'll stay with them and have a chat with them while you guys go to the banquet. I'll see if I can find out something more about them and what they were doing"
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Friday March 26th, 2010 11:33:43 AM
Xeron perks up at the idea that the Manfri justice might include eating the witches. "I like that kind of justice. Who said it is more humane to rot into a cell? May be some Manfri have Mud Town roots. "
When the 13 year-old he could not kill, his first reflex is to help her. But he does not do anything. What could he say? Beri and Bosk were already taking care of her. "Let them do their thing and see what happens " he says to himself.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Friday March 26th, 2010 12:50:14 PM
Valla throws his two cents into the conversation as well. If the Manfri wish to eat the witches, fine by me. Its the Manfri who these witches threatend; poisoned there water, and killed multiple Manfri as well. If thats how the little people reap justice, then thats how it shall be done. A denizen of the Sargrass Plains cannot expect to be treated as anything more. Im sure these witches knew the Manfri's ways of justice before the sabotaged their water, or killed their families. It would be wrong, Ransy and Cesar, to let these witches free, anywhere in the Wold. It would also be wrong to hold them for a ransom. That is not justice, thats thievry in a way. Valla watches Xeron sit back down and him look at the youngest witch.
He whispers in the rogues ear; Your heart will heal in time; speak to her.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Friday March 26th, 2010 1:02:55 PM
Xeron looks at Valla. The elven wizard has since the beginning always been right with his advices and has stod by him even when the rest of the group felt he was crazy. So he nods to the mage and gets up. He approaches the 13 year old and if she is sitting sit next to her.
"That got to be scary and see a giant minotaur mud starring at you. I understand your reaction but I can tell you he is not a beast. He is a very kind and compassionate person. He saved you from a certain death. Actually, you cheated death twice in the past 24 hours. First I was about to finish you off when I decided I could not. Then Bosk, the Horned Cleric saved you from the smoke. So you have an opportunity here that few of us get."
He pauses and starts playing with the wedding band hanging from his neck. "How old are you? 13, 14, may be 15. Your life is ahead of you. I will not question why you join a coven. We all do stupid things in our youth because we have no other choice or because we are too silly to see the consequences. So I will not judge you but I will tell you this. If you continue on working for evil people, you will end up like the head witch did, split in two. People like Ransy over there dedicate their life to the eradicaton of evil. So the deck is stacked against you. So you are smart. Learn from it. My instinct is usually right. You have the chance to right up your ship. Don't blow."
He stops there waiting for her reaction.
"13! That was Mom's age when they attacked her. Except she had an adult body with the mind of a 5 year old. 13 was my age when I bled my first mercenary for the merchant gold. May be this girl will be smart enough to correct her mistakes ....
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Friday March 26th, 2010 2:33:31 PM
Ransy is a bit confused by all the different reactions. He looks to Bosk and asks: you're a priest of Gargul. What do you think of eating the bodies of the dead? Is it just a custom that we don't eat dead bodies, or is it a law of the gods?
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Friday March 26th, 2010 2:42:33 PM
Bosk pulls Ransy aside, feeling the topic of cannibalism should be addresses outside the girls hearing. Gargul if the lord of balance. Life and death, crime and punishment. His concern is that balance is maintained, not how we go about it. That is a freedom and a choice left up to us, or in this case the manfri. It is like Alistair said, these are decisions we need to make.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Friday March 26th, 2010 4:12:47 PM
Ransy says: well, in that case, the Manfri's desire to eat the dead doesn't make them unreasonable, at least not necessarily so. Maikill, I acknowledge what you said: the Manfri may be reasonable people. Xeron and Maikill said that this feature of Manfri justice actually pleases them. Valla and I think that the witches cannot go unpunished, and the Manfri are the right ones to punish them. And I still think I can do a good word for these women, especially for the 13-year old, when brought before a Manfri trial. Yes, I think we should bring them as prisoners to the Manfri, and try to get them to be merciful in their punishment.
13yr old girl -- DM Jim Friday March 26th, 2010 4:54:57 PM
With all the talk of eating them and the creepy old guy sitting next to her (to her Xeron is old and creepy :), she decides to make a break for it. Quickly rolling over, getting up and running for the edge of the clearing, she can only hope they won't stop her. ----- ooc: Xeron, Beri and Bosk may make AoO attacks to grapple her or otherwise.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells d20+4=10 ; d20+4=19 ; Friday March 26th, 2010 7:51:52 PM
Bosk tries to stop the young girl, but being in deep conversation with Ransy is to distracted to react in time. Dropping his pack he runs full speed after the young girl. If he catches up he will try to grappel her again, if not he will throw his helmet at her feet in hopes of tripping her.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 d20+2=20 ; Friday March 26th, 2010 8:03:56 PM
Beriothian hears the people around him talking about cannibalism. Don't these guys realize that the frightened and injured little girl over here is the one they are talking about being cannibalized? I wonder if they even realize she is no longer unconscious. Beri is aware that the girl is becoming frightened and immediately reaches out his arm to grab the girl when the moment she starts to flee. He has no qualms about her escaping, but from all he's heard the dangers of the grass jungle are no place for a little girl.
*if Beri catches her* Just ignore them, we may not know the customs of this land but if anyone wants to lay a hand on you they are going to need to go through my gigantic friend here.
ooc: I didn't think Bosk' had a helmet... a taur's helmet may be large enough to throw OVER her like a small prison ;)
13yr old girl -- DM Jim d20=13 ; Friday March 26th, 2010 9:06:41 PM
Grabbing the young girl, Beri tries to reason with her, but she responds by trying to bite his hand, unsuccessfully. "Let me go! Let me go!!!"
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Friday March 26th, 2010 9:50:39 PM
Xeron makes no effort to stop her. When Beri catches her, he says "Let her go.

Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Bluff: d20+1=5 ; Diplomacy/Intimidate: d20+1=2 ; Friday March 26th, 2010 10:43:06 PM
Valla nods back to Xeron, smiling as the young rogue confronts the younger witch. Overcoming this social problem with women will help the boy grow as a man. He may not realize this now, but there is potential there. Of that Im sure...
Valla thinks to himself, watching Xeron talk to the young woman. He then makes his way over to Bosk and Ransy. Speaking softly; Have we decided yet? To the Manfri with them, yes? I think we should get moving soon; it would be a shame to leave late and only to have to find a safe place to camp tonight. The plains are not my idea of a picnic...
As he speaks with Ransy and Bosk the young witch trys to escape, only to be caught by Beri. Valla excuses himself from his two comrades by whispering a small plan; Ok; she wants to leave. Thats not good for cooperation. She's overheard us talking about Manfri cannabalism obviously. So; we tell her that if she cooperates, we'll pension for a lighter sentence, or some sort of mercy from the Manfri. Tell her if she doesn't, then we'll make sure the little ones eat all the witches they want. We need information guys; and I think this will work..
After telling Ransy and Bosk about his plan, Valla will make his way over to the young witch. Lets hope I gets some back up, Im never very good at talking with people.
Now now Miss. Thats no way to treat your saviors. We've spared your life; I believe its high time you answered Beri's questions. As you've overheard, we intend on taking you to the Manfri village, to be put on trial as they see fit. But; if your to cooperate with us and give us the answers and information we wish to know. A suggestion, to spare your life, can be given in hopes to sway the Manfri to give you mercy. If you do not cooperate; I'll personally suggest a sentence of death. The choice is yours.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Friday March 26th, 2010 10:45:46 PM
Bosk responds, Not yet Xeron. We need to ask her some questions first. If she tells us the truth then we can talk about letting her go.
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 d20-2=18 ; Friday March 26th, 2010 11:29:30 PM

13yr old girl -- DM Jim d20=17 ; d4=1 ; Friday March 26th, 2010 11:40:39 PM
The young girl screams as she's being restrained and when Valla comes up to talk to her--his epic failure at diplomacy coupled with Maikill's act of intimidation, results in her kicking Valla in the face. ----- Valla 1hp non-lethal damage.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Saturday March 27th, 2010 12:11:09 AM
Beriothian whispers to the little girl. Nice kick. He gives the little girls hand to Bosk, takes a step in front of her and places his hand on the handle of his rapier (he hopes the party realizes this act is mostly to for the sake of the girl and not to threaten them.)
Everyone not helping this girl please get back to your business. We have "decided" to do no such thing with her, and I'm not going to let you harm on hair on a girl who as far as you know had no control over what happened. You are ready to condemn these people without taking 5 minutes to find out what their story is. Don't forget, I personally was worried for a time that I had been ensnared by the mindflayer, there is a chance this girl had suffered a similar fate.
ooc: Xeron is 18. This is not old and creppy for a 13 year old. ask any you know. ... there has to be a better way to word that. :P
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Saturday March 27th, 2010 3:26:59 AM
Valla takes to girls kick with a grunt, then Beri begins his fake threat... this is not right... I offer the girl my word to the Manfri that she is a good person, for simple cooperation, and she KICKS ME!!... Im done with prisoners...
Valla shoots the girl an obscene gesture. Then walks away, sitting next to Maikill. Taking a brief moment he says, do what you need with her, soon we need to leave... Lingering too much isnt a good idea. then turning to Maikill, could you help me with my fighting skills??
Alistair -- DM Jim Saturday March 27th, 2010 3:40:08 AM
It is one of those rare moments when one might notice Alistair smiling to himself. Sitting back against the tree and lighting a pipe, all he needed was some popcorn to watch the rest of the show.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 d20+9=25 ; Saturday March 27th, 2010 8:47:06 AM
Ransy nods to Beri and says: can we please stop intimidating that girl? Can't you see that she's frightened too badly already to give us any answers? Please give her some time to calm down.
and to the girl he immediately adds: calm down, we are not going to hurt you. Stop biting, don't act like an angry cat. Otherwise we have to bind you.
If she calms down, he'll continue (using diplomacy): Listen, we will help you if you listen and do as we say. Now listen! You were part of that witch group. That's a big, big, very big mistake, do you understand? Witches are bad, they do terrible things to people, very bad. These witches have killed the little black people, the Manfri, killed many of them. How would you feel if someone killed your father or your mother, your brother or your sister? That's bad, very bad. And you were part of it. Part of the witch group. That's not a game. That's serious. Do you understand? These people have feelings, just like we do. And your group has hurt them badly.
I don't know what you did. Perhaps you did nothing. You did not kill, I think. But you were part of the group, the witch group. And that's a mistake, a big mistake. You see? So now you've got to tell them you're sorry. Very very sorry. And then we'll take care of the rest. Do you understand? We'll be with you all the time. And you'll tell the little black people that you're sorry. That you thought it was a game. That you didn't think. You'll say it over and over again: sorry, sorry, sorry. Can you do that?
Diplomacy = 25.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Saturday March 27th, 2010 10:00:22 AM
Xeron still has not moved during the entire commotion. He looks at the girl and if her eyes cross, this old and creepy 18 year old will look at her with a "I told you so look.
He had given a girl a chance and she is blowing it. May be she will realize that Xeron is looking out for her benefit.

Everything looks good now. If there is a problem I kept a backup on my computer.
13yr old girl -- DM Jim Saturday March 27th, 2010 2:20:20 PM
Perhaps it was Ransy's fair eyes, or his resonating voice, whatever it was it seemed to work, somewhat. Stopping her protests, she listened to what the paladin had to say, then replied, "But I did help kill them, and I'm not sorry. The little creatures are the ones that ruined this place, they brought the grass and it chokes out everything, everything!" Her face was defiant as would seem her nature.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Saturday March 27th, 2010 3:40:28 PM
Ransy thinks youthful innocence, where have you gone? and asks:choked out what exactly? What was this place? What was so very very important to you and your group?
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Saturday March 27th, 2010 4:11:39 PM
Beriothian smiles warmly and removes his hand from his sword. He sits back down on a tree root close to the girl and lets Ransy talk with the little girl.
13yr old girl -- DM Jim Saturday March 27th, 2010 4:39:55 PM
The young girl seemed defiant in her attitude as she answered Ransy's questions, "This place was open plains, then the Manfri came with their Sargrass. Everyone of them should die. Why do you think the druids plant these trees? To fight back the Sargrass."
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Saturday March 27th, 2010 8:58:12 PM
Hardly listening to the little girl, Valla looks up when she speaks of the Manfri. Who, for all Valla thought, were just some little people using the natural enviorment to their benefit. Valla looks to Jacob, a Druid, for conformation. Maybe later buddy, he pats Maikill on the back as he stands.
Jacob? Is she correct? Did the Manfri, bring the grass with them? If Druid trees are fighting the grass, why would you befriend these people who challange and change natrue? This is getting very confusing..
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Saturday March 27th, 2010 10:35:06 PM
Maikill is getting impatient, Jacob is busy being questioned and Alistair is sitting by the tree almost laughing at them. Maikill gets up and walks over to him.
"We make you laugh, not good laugh though."
Maikill shakes his head.
"Mother was always right. When we leave here? Maybe you go with us to Manfri, we do stupid thing there too maybe. It will be fun for you. When we go?"
Jacob & Alistair -- DM Jim Sunday March 28th, 2010 1:04:11 AM
"I know the druids of these plains plant these trees, I've help plant a few and am bonded to one back home. They do keep the sargrass at bay and what she says about the Manfri is correct, they brought the grass and planted it. Why? I believe they were instructed to do so by a higher being. I can fault them no more than I could fault Bosk or Ransy for following the edicts of their gods." Jacob seemed very neutral in his opinion, sharing no hidden emotion for or against the Manfri or the grass that suffocates the plains.
Alistair shrugged his shoulders when Maikill asked him when they were leaving. He hadn't even shared but a nod and a glance at Jacob when he made his return, not that the young druid had any time because of the multitude of questions being bantered back and forth. "I've always found lesser beings quite amusing when it came to morals and ethics. I've been of the school of thought that you either do a thing, or don't, and talking about it leads to more questions and less answers, but that's just me."
Cesar - HP 13/29, AC 21 Sunday March 28th, 2010 9:11:08 AM "I can understand your angst against the Manfri, little one, but why did you abduct Jacob here? He is not a Manfri... maybe you needed him to pursue your revenge?"
Cesar looks around at the group and continues: "The girl has something there, although I am against petty revenge as a solution. If what she says is true, she is just as guilty as Maikill would be for seeking peace for his mother. What we wanted to do was free Jacob, and this we did. The witch coven isn't evil per-se, they are just on the other side of the Manfri's point of view. I think we should just give them some food and set them free. If the Manfri want to bring them to justice, they might just as well get off their buttocks and come and catch them!"
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Sunday March 28th, 2010 11:24:19 AM
Ransy answers Cesar: it's out of proportion, Cesar; you can't start killing people because you want to protect the environment; sowing sargrass is not an act of war
and he continues his conversation with the girl: did the sargrass choke people? Did it choke intelligent beings with feelings, huh? No, I don't think so. Did the Manfri sow the sargrass in order to kill people? No? Did the Manfri kill one of the witches? If they didn't, your group had no right to start killing the Manfri. Do you understand? You can't solve your problems by killing people, that's bad, a big bad mistake. Unless they start the fight, of course. But did they?
13yr old girl -- DM Jim d20+2=11 ; Sunday March 28th, 2010 2:41:01 PM
"So it's okay to kill someone if they start the fight?" Asks the young girl, "That's what they did, they captured some of my people in the village and we never saw them again."
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells d20+3=9 ; Sunday March 28th, 2010 3:09:21 PM
The Horned Cleric says nothing as he takes in the conversation. It was nice to see a conversation like this take place. In his experience people developed an almost random sense of right and wrong and were only willing to discuss their beliefs when they were looking for an excuse to go against them.
As they talk he tries his hardest to detrrmine if the girl is being honest, but he never could understand young girls behaviors.
Sense motive =9
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Sunday March 28th, 2010 3:17:34 PM
Maikill shakes his head as he walks away from Alistair with one word ringing in his head lesser.
He is really upset in that Alistair offended him, on purpose and yet what he said rang true. Hating listening to reason from someone like the magician, Maikill forces himself to distance the information from the source.
He walks up to the whirlwind of questions directed at Jacob and says:
"We do not know customs here. No tell who lie and who tell truth. We came rescue you, you almost dead in grave. Witches did it. You decide what to do with them. They hurt you, not me. I tired of argument over witches. Decide what you want."
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 d20+7=26 ; Sunday March 28th, 2010 4:18:32 PM
To Ransy it would greatly complicate things if the Manfri had kidnapped and perhaps killed (eaten?) people from the girl's village. But can he trust the girl's story? He decides he has to hear her out about this and try to figure out whether she has only said this to get off the hook or not.
So he asks: The Manfri captured villagers? When? Where were you at that time? Who was captured? How can you be sure it was the Manfri? Why not somebody else? sense motive = 26 (great!)
Ransy -- DM Jim d20=15 ; Sunday March 28th, 2010 4:25:19 PM
Ransy senses the young girls story is not true as he inundates her with questions, to which she responds, "What do you care? You're just like the rest, nothing but a pig!"
Jacob -- DM Jim Sunday March 28th, 2010 4:27:02 PM
In response to Maikill's query, "I've said it before, let them go. I do not intend on pursuing the matter, I was not harmed and many of them were killed. If the Manfri want them, they can hunt them down themselves."
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Sunday March 28th, 2010 4:46:14 PM
Bosk stands up and adresses the group. If Jacob does not wish to pursue the matter than we should let them go, assuming they answer our quesions truthfully. Lets finish asking her our questions. Then we can bring her into the tunnel and wake up and question the next witch. If their answers match and we find them to be telling the truth we let them go. We have no obligation to keep them and the leaders are gone. The threat is at least minimized for now.
Spells and Prisoners -- DM Jim Sunday March 28th, 2010 7:08:30 PM
Bosk has used 2 CLW's to heal the young girl, leaving him 2 more and a CmW, right?
How do you intend to restrain the young girl, since it is obvious she will run at the first chance she gets.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Sunday March 28th, 2010 9:25:59 PM
ooc: You have me spells corect. Bosk was saying this to encourage conversation, and is willing to do so if the others agree and would watch the witch in the cave or if Ransy would heal the witch and Bosk would block the cave entrance. However this is initially dependent on the girl cooperating and answering the rest of our questions so we can compare the answers with the other witches. In particularly I want to know the girls name, what spell was being cast, and what came out of the cauldron.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Sunday March 28th, 2010 9:42:08 PM
ooc: sorry, that is 3 CmW. The two I used on myself were at dawn before I got new spells.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Sunday March 28th, 2010 10:04:29 PM This girl is correct to a degree. We do not know what's going on here, and this is not our battle to fight. Our only mission was to rescue Jacob, and we have completed that task.
Young Miss, you are right that we do not know the story, and apparently you aren't going to tell us your side. You haven't even been willing to at least provide a first name for us to call you by. It doesn't matter, we will ask the Manfri for the details of the story tonight. What we really are concerned about is the creature that was seen escaping from your cauldron and what spell was being cast prior to it's release. The information we are requesting should be trivial enough, but we can always ask the adults for this. We should also ask them if they know of a mindflayer named Vellenius, though I doubt such a name has reached the Sargrass Plains.
Bosk, if there are no objections can you go back to your original plan and wake the eldest next so that we can release this youngster into her care?
13yr old girl -- DM Jim Sunday March 28th, 2010 10:17:40 PM
The young girl decides she is done talking, what happens happens and she will not give these foul men anymore of her time.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Sunday March 28th, 2010 10:17:45 PM Ahh; she isn't telling everything... Or lieing outright.. Valla listens, knowing that if he does talk it will just scare the girl. For all he cares these witchs should have been left to bleed out or stabalize as nature willed it. He does listen to the conversation though, mildly interested if the eldest witch will tell them anything at all, or try an escape.
We should be going soon
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells d20+4=22 ; Monday March 29th, 2010 12:25:16 AM
Somewhat dismayed at the girls refusal to cooperate, Bosk realizes that there is no point in questioning her any farther. Moving closer to the girl he says, Fine. Beri can you secure her so that she cannot escape while I wake up the next one.
Bosk will wait while Beri or another in the group ties the girl up. If she struggles or tries to escape Bosk will grab her and hold her down while another ties her up.
(Not sure what this requires, but I rolled an attack roll to grab her and hold her down if necessary.)
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Monday March 29th, 2010 1:17:29 AM
Valla cant believe his pointy ears, must you really use up your spells to wake another? What elsewill we accomplish by questioning a elder witch, who will most likly feel even more hatred toward the manfri than this youngster? I think thisis wasting time and resources Bosk.
Whether or not the Manfri are expecting us, we still have problems to deal with in mud town, and errands to run in hook city... Maybe not in a hurry, but we dont have all the time in the world here
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Monday March 29th, 2010 4:02:07 AM
Ransy is suddenly very tired and says: I still think that these witches should be brought to the Manfri for judgment. I had hoped that this young girl could be swayed and would make excuses to the Manfri. That would have been just and given the witches better chances at surviving the ordeal. But now she remains defiant and insulting. If we take her to the Manfri in this mood, she will only get herself and the others killed. So I agree that she, but she alone, should be released. She's underage and we don't have the time and the means to get her a trial which is appropriate to her age. But the others shouldn't escape justice so easily. Let's take them to the Manfri, and I'll do my utmost to convince them to be merciful.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Monday March 29th, 2010 9:35:38 AM
Xeron stays sitted and silent. He grabs a stick and starts drawing on the dry soil.
She had her chance but freaked and could not seize it. May be she is too young. May be she is too young and need my help.
Still siting, the rogue says "I believe that the ones in the group who think that they supposed to bring law and order to this land should join the army and the police. We were hired to save Jacob. We did it. While doing that, we showed clemency by saving our ennemies from certain death. I am not a judge nor the jury and tired to be the executioner. What happens in this land is not my concern. As MAgister Alistair made it clear when he spoke about Mudtown, these people are here by choice. Let's move on. We either go to the Manfri for Bosk to get his armor or we get the heck out of here to collect our payment. But Valla is right. Let's get moving.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Monday March 29th, 2010 10:36:27 AM Actually, Xeron has an excellent point. Perhaps one of these women is a healer, in which case we can wake her and she can wake the rest of these women. I wouldn't worry about being late, talking is only taking a few minutes after all.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells d20=8 ; Monday March 29th, 2010 11:38:42 AM
Bosk nods his head in agreement. We know nothing about this feud between the witches and the manfri, and therefore cannot take sides We learned after letting the cultists go that we cannot judge people perfectly. If the consequences is bringing a young girl to her death and there is a possibillity she was innocent then we cannot do it. We killed half the women in this town, and if Jacob says to free the rest then who are we to argue? We do not know who killed the manfri, only that it was the witches. We cannot make the entire group pay for the crimes of an individual.
Young girl, can you tell us if anyone left is capable of healing. Even if I wanted to, I do not have the power to heal you all and I would hate to leave any of your group unconscious with the creatures living in the grass.

The young girl squints at the man-beast and replies to Bosk, "No, the only one who could cast spells were the ones you killed," she then spits at him. All she wanted was some fun, because there was nothing to do, no one new to see ever since Hook City disappeared and now these men ruined it all. Damn men.

"We go, talk with Manfri."
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Monday March 29th, 2010 7:11:11 PM No. We cannot put that responsibility on a thirteen year old girl. If it was the eldest witch, maybe. But not a child. We need to wake up one of the older women.
Bosk will wait to hear what the group has to say, but it is clear he does not feel comfortable saddling the girl with so much responsibility in such a dangerous are.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Monday March 29th, 2010 9:31:27 PM Handing this girl over to be eater is looking more attractive by the minutes.

Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Monday March 29th, 2010 9:52:53 PM
Beriothian rolls his eyes at Xeron. Well, I am sure that by saying it even louder this time that you will now convince people that it's not worth spending five minutes to learn what's going on, and that it's in everyone's best interest to leave a small child alone with four unconscious women.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells d8+1=8 ; Monday March 29th, 2010 10:36:48 PM
The minotaur shakes his head, realizing that the group is at a stand still. If no one objects, I plan to wake the eldest witch up next. I don't see any other option. We can't question her in this state, we cannot carry five unconscious witches to the manfri, and we cannot leave a thirteen year old in charge of taking care of four unconscious people.
Beri and Maikill, could you please watch the young girl while I wake the next one up. I will stand here by her feet, and hopefully Ransy and Cesar can be by her head. They are better looking and more charismatic, and will hopefully get a better response from her.
If there is no objection then Bosk will cast CLW on the eldest witch.

Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Tuesday March 30th, 2010 6:07:39 AM
Ransy says to Xeron: you don't have to convince me; I have already agreed to send the girl away.
and to the others: But these four women are dangerous, even if they can't cast spells. One doesn't need magic to use poison and kill. I don't believe they are innocent bystanders. Like the girl said, they all worked together to kill the Manfri. I think these four women need to be punished so that they realize that what they did was wrong. And let's hope it deters others from doing the same in the future. That's what justice is about: letting people see the wrongness of their ways and deterring others from doing the same. Bosk, I don't see what we could learn from the elder witch. Alistair explained it: witches often trap a spirit in their cauldron. The spirit's gone now. It doesn't matter to me, but I'll sit at her head's side, okay
Cesar - HP 13/29, AC 21 Tuesday March 30th, 2010 6:40:02 AM "Well... as a matter of fact, even we are dangerous AND we just killed some women in the tree... we could say it was to save Jacob, but the fact remains that we are no one to judge them. I believe you already searched their souls for traces of evil, right Ransy? So if none of them is truly black-hearted let's just let them go. I believe they aren't critical and they amply demonstrated that they are able to fend for themselves"
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Tuesday March 30th, 2010 9:10:52 AM
Xeron smiles at Beri and go back drawing on the ground. Then he get up and go sit next to Alistair. "Don't ask me anything, I just work here.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Tuesday March 30th, 2010 10:21:56 AM
Valla stands by, awaiting Bosk to wake the enxt wish, and do his questioning. He glances at Xeron's drawings in the ground, looking at the Rogue, An artist are we? You should try charactures. Funny things they are. He says, motioning himself with a large head and bulging eyes.

30yr old woman -- DM Jim d8=7 ; d20=7 ; Tuesday March 30th, 2010 11:57:46 AM
"Huh, what?" were the first words out of the older woman's mouth as Bosk prayed once to heal her wounds. Upon realizing her situation, she too immediately grabbed for a dagger that was not there. Glowering, her eyes narrowed as she menacingly looked at her captors.
Xeron AC AC16 HP 12/13 Tuesday March 30th, 2010 1:16:21 PM
Xeron is watching the show next to Alistair.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Tuesday March 30th, 2010 1:45:28 PM
Ransy says to the older woman: We've saved you, so we won't kill you. You were struck down in the fight and passed out, but now we have cured you. We need you to look after the others. At this point, Ransy points to the other four witches. You five are the only survivors. Let me tell you how the fight ended: your head witch was cleaved in two and then the cauldron exploded into thick smoke. That was not our doing. We ran outside and tried to save as many of you witches as we could. The others choked in the smoke. Some of the others would like to question you. I hope you'll cooperate. I'll not lie to you: this situation looks very bad for you. I have only one question. We found a lot of Manfri skulls. Did you help killing them?

"Tell them nothing!" Screams the young girl, "They're going to have the Manfri eat us!"
The older woman's face turns into a smirk and she says nothing in response to Ransy's questions.

Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Tuesday March 30th, 2010 5:51:13 PM
Bosk responds, That's not true. We asked what the manfri would do if we turned you over to them, and we do not like that option. The man you kidnapped is willing to have us let you go. Now we need to determine what is happening between you and the manfri. We have taken no side in your conflict, we just wish to understand it, why you took our friend, and what spell you were trying to cast. The little girl either did not know enough. We are new to this area and just trying to understand. We have a skilled paladin and know you are not evil, and we will know if you tell us the truth.
We are meeting the manfri tonight and do not know if we can trust them any more then we know if we can trust you. We just want to understand. If we intended to kill you we would have done so, and if we had already decided to give you to the manfri we would not have waken you up. We just want to understand.
Witches -- DM Jim Tuesday March 30th, 2010 6:02:21 PM
"Good luck with that," sneers the older witch.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Tuesday March 30th, 2010 7:43:29 PM
With the witch sneering at Bosk, Valla looks to his horned comrade; still want to question them? They show no remorse for what they've done and tried to do last night. They wont bother negotiating with us. They havn't even show respect or gratitude for not letting them die! Lets just get out of here. Leave the fighting over grass to denizens of the area.
Jacob, Alistair & Temujin -- DM Jim Tuesday March 30th, 2010 8:30:31 PM
Seeing the group embroiled in discussion and also seeing it come to a head and possibly a decision soon to be made, Alistair motions Jacob and then Temujin away from the group to have a private conversation. DC20 to eavesdrop (move within range) on their conversation and Highlight to display spoiler: {"Let me preface my greeting with the warning that that little insipid Valla is probably trying to eavesdrop on me, like he did earlier. Maikill has his duty given him by Bosk, he is watching the witch girl until he has had a chance to speak with the older witch. When she calls out a warning, he is tempted to place a hand over her mouth. The damage is done, instead he glares at her.
Witches -- DM Jim d20=12 ; Tuesday March 30th, 2010 11:19:54 PM
"Hah! You little man with your little threats!" says the older witch, which ends with her spitting at Beri.

Slightly confused by events the Horned Cleric looks around to make sure she is not destracting the group from anything else going on. He then observes the witch and attempts to sense her motive. Is she being defiant, hiding something, or does she wish to be taken to the manfri?
If Bosk learns anything he will discretely pass it along to the group before trading places with Maikill. [b]She's all yours big guy.[b]
ooc: Sorry about the multiple rolls, I was originally going assist Beri in threatening the witch, but the DM beat me to the post and now I am suspicious. Not sure if you wanted to add 2 to the d20+1 intimidate roll for sense motive or if I should make another roll and use the d20+3 roll (dm choice). The d20 was an accident, using it for my spot check (not spying an Alistair) and the d20+4 was because I was going to use my weapon to threaten the witch.
Sense motive 17 or 20 Spot = 4
Bosk -- DM Jim d20+2=22 ; Wednesday March 31st, 2010 2:19:23 AM
Carefully scrutinizing the older witch, Bosk comes to the realization that he's not sure what she's up to. Noticing Bosk's gaze, she turns and gives him a seductive wink.
Cesar - HP 13/29, AC 21 Wednesday March 31st, 2010 5:13:41 AM "For crying out loud!", Cesar exclaims all of a sudden, "The women don't want to cooperate, so it's no use continuing on this way. They don't have any weapons on them and they shouldn't be able to cast any spells, so let's just let them go and be off with their business! If they want to continue their feud with the Manfri, they're free to do so! Then we can decide where we want to go and just get moving! If there's one thing I hate is staying idle in one place..."
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Wednesday March 31st, 2010 9:56:15 AM
Bosk agrees with Cesar and trades place with Maikill.Something is not adding up. Either they wish to die or they have no fear of us. Perhaps Maikill can get them to talk.
Before leaving Bosk will talk to Jacob about the chalice they found and see if they should bring the blood to the manfri along with the skulls.
(How much does the chalice weigh?)
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 d20-2=-1 ; Wednesday March 31st, 2010 10:13:52 AM
When Bosk comes out of the cave he gladly turns over the young witch to him.
"Careful, she is tricky."
He walks into the cave and approaches the witch that Bosk just healed.
"Maybe you want to kill me?"
Maikill stares hard at the witch woman.
"I kill your leader, kill others too. Maybe I almost killed you too. No tell, witches all look same. I make pot break, creature come out. I tell others let Manfri have witches, maybe make witch stew."
He slips a dagger into his hand and holds by the blade just out of reach of the witch.
"Maybe you need weapon, fight me? Then I kill you fair, then gods give me reward when I die. Or you can talk to bull man. I no care what you do."

Witches and Jacob -- DM Jim Wednesday March 31st, 2010 10:56:44 AM
The older witch laughs in Maikill's face. Perhaps it's the involuntary twitch in the half-orcs face that just popped up, or something stuck in his teeth, either way, she mocks the barbarian openly with her contemptous laugh.
When asked about the stone bowl, Jacob asks what the point of bring it with them (it weighs about 50lbs).
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Wednesday March 31st, 2010 11:12:30 AM Laughing, they always laugh at me. Someday they learn no laugh.
Anger begins to boil up in Maikill, yet the words and thoughts of his departed mother keep it under control.
Why mother only good woman? Maikill asks himself.
He throws the dagger on the ground at the feet of witch.
"Kill me if you want, I no need listen you."
Maikill turns his back and walks slowly out of the cave.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Wednesday March 31st, 2010 11:21:51 AM
Bosk responds to Jacob, I didn't know if the the manfri considered blood sacred and would want it. I also do not know what the witches used the chalice for, but I think it best not to let them keep if it is important for their dark magic.
Jacob -- DM Jim Wednesday March 31st, 2010 11:47:33 AM
"Well, that may be true, but I think we've worked out a solution for that." Looking over at the doppleganger, Jacob elaborates, "Temujin has voiced a desire to stay here with me, to learn the ways of the druid and to bond with this tree. He'll be able to protect it and consecrate it's ground with my help." Looking somewhat sadly or perhaps empathic to the doppleganger's plight, "He longs for quiet. His short stay here has done wonders for his state of mind he claims. The number of voices he hears is so few that he actually knows which thoughts are his and which aren't. Also, he'll be staying here with Alistair when we visit the Manfri--to watch over the unconscious witches and keep the awake ones in line."
Witches -- DM Jim Wednesday March 31st, 2010 11:56:11 AM
The older witch considers taking up the dagger and stabbing someone with it, but last time out, that tactic didn't work too well. The younger witch also looks longingly at the dagger, but the older witch shakes her head no--the dagger remains where it's been dropped.
Valla AC:(20)16/16/12 HP:6/12 Wednesday March 31st, 2010 1:03:27 PM

Looking up at the group; Can we go now?
Grendel -- DM Jim Wednesday March 31st, 2010 2:23:35 PM

Maikill is ready to go.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 19/23 Wednesday March 31st, 2010 4:18:38 PM
Ransy realizes that there is no support in the group for his plan to bring the witches to the Manfri and he can't do it on his own. He has repeatedly stated his thoughts about justice, but it seems that the other group members are no longer listening to these pleas. So he reconsiders: it's probably best to stay with the group and check out these Manfri. Perhaps the group will change it's mind if the Manfri prove to be reasonable people. There's not much more I can do at this moment anyway.
he picks up the dagger dropped by Maikill, gives it back to him and says I am ready to go, though I am quite disappointed.
Maikill HP 38/39, AC17 Wednesday March 31st, 2010 7:35:19 PM

We should have just left them for nature to take its course... Valla knows he shouldnt have put his 2 cents in again, but did it anways. He gives a nod to Maikill, then looks to Jacob, How do we get to the Manfri?
