The Mangled Centaur

Gathering up the squad/DM Buzz
Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 10:58:27 PM

The group comes together and begin to walk down toward the docks. Many smells assault the heros as they take in many different sights. Walking by the gardens one finds the aroma of fresh turf being tilled as a new season comes their way and so too, a new crop. The aroma here is much more pleasant then within the artifact, where it almost smelled like sterile dirt, clearly a fabrication.

Further down the streets, sweat is easily detected as many different people walk by, doing their daily work. Minotaurs are prevalent, but so too are many other races, even an occasional centaur or two. Times have certainly changed between the islands over the last couple of years, but there still lies some suspicions amongst the races, at the very least.

Getting closer to the docks, the smell of tar and fish are unmistakable as they mingle in the air. Only a salty sailor can appreciate the aroma. While, sitting in the bay is a large fleet of ships of various sizes. Some look to be waiting for high tide and the afternoon wind to come in. Sailors hustle about in a busy fashion as their captain shouts vulgarities.

Taking a left and another right, the neighborhood soon changes as eyes peek out from windows and disturbing sounds come from the alley ways. Soon, another left finds you all on Shipwreck Avenue and it indeed appears to match the description. One of the first areas ever built, it was used to house war slaves as the main barracks had several sister stations running through this area, to keep in check any thoughts of escape or attack. Then, slaves became less and less used as feeding them and keeping them healthy became less and less mandatory and eventually banned altogether. This section fell into disrepair and the buildings were cheap to buy. Soon, a whole new community came to exist and every race that can be considered even somewhat sociable, can be found here. Orcs and bugbears are fairly common while goblins are everywhere.

The group doesn't even get a second glance from those walking through the streets. Many adventurers have walked through these very roads, some to never walk again.

Just ahead is The Mangled Minotaur and pouring out into the street, a brawl from the same establishment you want to enter. Two minotaurs are beating up one pretty badly. They are strong looking and very hardened. They appear to be wearing no armor except for some leather vanbracers around their wrists. Each wear black britches and matching vests. The drunk wears a blood soaked brown jerkin and a pair of well worn pants, the original type and shade of color long indiscernible.

The minotaur in the street looks drunk and half dead from the beating he received as he lays in the dirt and groans with every punch or kick he receives. The shorter of the two minotaurs points his finger at the drunk and yells in his face, with a language of minotaur Highlight to display spoiler: {"If you even so much as look at our mistress again, you will find yourself mounted on her mantle, you slime sucking barnacle lover!"}

The tall one kicks him once more before they both enter, leaving him lying still in the street. People ignore him as they either walk around or over his motionless corpse like body.

Welcome to The Mangled Centaur.

Vorelle
Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 11:25:24 PM

Vorelle is interested in her new surroundings at first, and Champ doubly so. There was a time, and not so long ago, when Vorelle would have been terrified at the prospect of being among so many strangers. Now, however, she is just curious, and makes note of the similarities and differences to the dock districts of Dirt City.

Champ, of course, is utterly enchanted by the new world of smells.

As they enter the poorer quarter, Vorelle feels a familiar knot form in her stomach. This place is leagues away from her home, but in many respects she might as well be back among her family and the other Grubbers of Dirt City.

She winces at the assault on the minotaur, and wonders if they ought to intervene. Before she can decide, however, the bullies walk away, leaving their victim lying in the street. Vorelle glances over at Malgant. She wants to go and help the man, but she will follow the Protector's lead.

Malgant see's Vorelle's look and almost imperceptibly he nods. He doesn't know exactly what sparked this fight, but it sounds like the beating was deserved, if overly harsh. As others step over or around the fallen Minotaur, Malgant stoops down, ever aware of his surroundings and picks the body up and steadies it on its feet. A few divine words fall from his lips and the Taur is healed somewhat ( cast cure light wounds for 8 healing to both lethal and nonlethal damage). Malgant says a few words softly to the beaten Taur in the Minotaur language." I don't know exactly what you did, but if I were you I would pick myself up, be glad that I was alive and go on about my business....elsewhere." To his friends he says, in Common " You see how easy it is to fall into trouble here, mind your looks and manners. Yes, we can finish almost any fight that starts here, but that isn't our purpose. We are here to meet Bardamion and his friends(family). We have other fish to fry today and nursing a few bruises is not what will get them done." He then steps through he door looking not necessarily for the Bardamion he knows by sight, but by manner since he is pretty sure the man could "look" like anyone he wanted to. His personality and mannerisms would surely point him out to those that know him.

Wednesday March 24th, 2010 5:43:05 AM

As Malgant sets the battered minotaur back on his feet, those near Uel can hear him musing aloud, "...not the first time I've wished for a touch of divine magic. Perhaps some day..." He trails off.

Vauhwyt (HP90+18 AC28) and Mookie (HP45+18 AC19)
Wednesday March 24th, 2010 2:39:12 PM

Vauhwyt watches with interest as Mal helps out a fellow minotaur. She hangs back a second while the others enter the tavern. She pauses by the minotaur Mal cured and whispers to him: "Bide your time, my friend, and say a prayer to Our Lady of Vengeance. She takes care of those who ask for justice."

The liontaur enters the tavern after her friends.

Unarmed, Whysper approaches the tavern doors with a straight face. She sticks close to the adventurers despite wondering whether the group might draw unwanted attention walking in together. On their own, they may just be another person off the street, but as a group, they certainly are a mixed gathering.

She prepares herself for what may be inside.

Aztyr lets Mal do his thing, and Vauhwyt her thing, and she keeps her own advice to herself. She could get in enough trouble on her own, without adding other's troubles to her own. Ture, she was haning out with a bunch of trouble loadstones, but these or at least most of these people were her friends, currently. The new might soon be added added to her list of friends.
After they head in she tries to spot thier partner, through the pipe smoke and the fire smoke, but she ends up bringing tears to her eyes. She wipes away the tears and hopes one of the others can pick him out of the crowd.

Not so fast/DM Buzz
Wednesday March 24th, 2010 9:51:02 PM

Vorelle enjoys the city in many respects and reminisces of times past as things grow familiar, even in a new setting. Her new confidence does not soften her heart, but she is aware one should avoid foreign affairs so, she lets a friend and native handle things. Champ growls as he stays on her heels.

Malgant would have to pick up dead weight to heal this dark drunkard, better to just heal him while he's down so he can get up on his own. Once closer, it is easy to see, he is malnourished. His horns chipped and flaking while an unhealthy yellow tent like fungus grows through the root. He seems to be missing teeth, some more recent then others. The smell is disgusting and to carry this guy would leave a bloody, greasy grime trail. Yet, the Protector does his job and gives advice to boot.

Uel is unimpressed in the display of force exhibited by the bullies. He mutters something really not understandable, except that he wants a style of magic contrary to his own. Perhaps it has something to do with his true desire?

Aztyr wants to wait for the Grim Avenger, but the fellow liontaur would like to have private words alone with the battered minotaur. She too enters the establishment, hoping to find some...thing that would resemble their contact.

Whysper remains close to the others keeping alert. She knows the company of people that frequent this type of establishment. Indeed, it was those very types that introduced her to her long time friend.

Vauhwyt offers words of encouragement to the drunk that is still quite beat up. His hopes for the future, do not seem to be as long lived as the Avengers when the drunk reaches out to grope the liontaur, while muttering something about wild cats and furry felines.

Appolo lets the Protector do his bit and distances himself from the others. He presumes this is a typical bar, but that is a far stretch from the truth.

As most of the group walks into the entrance, they can see before them, four guards, in the black uniforms the bullies in the street wore. Standing to the right, behind a metal grate is an ogre, in charge of keeping items not allowed in the main bar. Ahead is a portcullis that is down. Behind it are the sounds of a fun time. Music that is playing can sometimes be drowned out by cheers of the crowd. If this place is busy during the day, it might be hard to imagine an evening shift. To the left are stairs leading up, wide enough for a large creature to climb.

The short minotaur that yelled at the drunk in the street stops you all and gives you his spiel in common, "Welcome to The Mangled Centaur. No weapons bigger then a dagger allowed in the bar, horns and claws excluded. Up the stairs you can find rooms if your staying. If you don't want to check your weapons with Ga there..." He points to the ogre, "Then stow them in your room. No fighting. Spitting in spittoons only. No relieving oneself in the common room. No throwing up in the common room. No sex in the common room. And whatever you do, never, ever insult the mistress of this establishment."

The minotaur looks you all over to see what you are wanting to do, he seems to not care, he is just doing his job. "If you are worried about your gear, we have the utmost pride in our professionalism. We want to make sure ALL of our customers return as often as possible. Nothing will happen to them."

Valanthe
Wednesday March 24th, 2010 10:59:33 PM

Valanthe settles into bed, quickly falling into a deep reverie. She's standing in a forest village. One in the deep forests away from the kingdoms of man. It was the only place she ever thought of as home. A place ripped away from her when she was just a child. Valanthe stands amidst the burning buildings and the bodies of her kin. A strong breeze clears the smoke and Valanthe sees herself across the clearing. Except its not her true body but a younger version of the one she has now. Her younger self was covered in blood, seething in anger. She had just killed a couple of orcs that discovered her hiding place. Valanthe remembers that moment. Everything that happened to her family caused her to snap. That anger and savage fury took her a long way but it also caused many problems.

The smoke rose up again, obscuring her vision. When it cleared she was in the valley of the mother of elves. The father took advantage of her anger but Valanthe didn't hold it against him. At that time she needed what he offered her. The love of a father. Even now she bore his mark upon her neck. Once she died Valanthe turned away from the anger and embraced nature and the peace of it. Using the bow to distance herself from battle. Avoiding what she knew she relished. Now Valanthe was reborn by the Necromancer's machine. She was older now but not by years. By life experience. She has seen more since her rescue from the slavers than most people do in a lifetime. Valanthe knew the power of anger but now she wouldn't let it control her.

Yet I have friends to meet and a schedule to keep so i'll play along . With that A flaming greatsword is produced from off of the Minotaur's back and a heavy mace appears from his belt. These go through the grate to his right. As this is accomplished Malgant surveys the foyer with a warrior's eye, just as he hopes he other spell casters, now the powerhouses of the group, are doing. Far from unarmed the Protector of Imod stands ready to enter the barroom before him.

Spot 17 ( Malgant is looking over the strength and experience of the guards and the ogre as well as the construction of the booth in which the ogre stands. He is also trying to gauge what effect if any a column of divine fire might have in this confined area should that be called for. For the first time he is very aware that Bart and his glove of storing are not here.)

"Understood" she responds to the minotaur. Turning to the group she speaks softly "I'm going to go ahead and check out the bar area. I'll wait inside near the entrance while you guys check your things"

"Well, I suppose that my walking stick would technically qualify as a weapon larger than a dagger. Here, take it if you must. Can't remember the last time I actually tried whacking something with it." This last is only muttered as Uel allows his unseen servant to support the staff until the ogre can take it. Uel ambles lazily after Whysper, nearly tripping over his own feet as she spins around to ask about the gate. A quick side step and he also turns around, to await the small minotaur's approval.

Just after handing over her weapon, Vauhwyt concentrates (check 33 beats the needed DC20) and fades away into the Realm of Shadows (Ethereal Darkwalk Grim ability). In the Realm of Shadows, she steps delicately over a rivulet of Woldsblood, walks into the common room of the establishment, and rematerializes on the other side of the lowered portcullis.

"I've been wanting to do that foreverr!" she whispers to Mookie.

Mookie replies, "Show-off!"

She looks around the Common Room and waits for her friends to join her.

And the fur flies/DM Buzz
Friday March 26th, 2010 4:50:26 PM

Vauhwyt allows the drunkard to live another day. Perhaps his revenge will come to pass as prayed for. She enters the inn with Appolo right behind her. They see Malgant is the first to lead the way in disarming himself. Pulling his flaming sword gets smiles from the minotaur guards and a scowl from Ga, "he Ha to funy, put back in tingy." He points toward the scabbard as he talks and takes the sheathed weapon from the Protector. The lead bouncer doesn't try to explain himself or the rules, he obviously doesn't care who anyone is, everyone is treated the same.

The short Minotaur, only eight and a half feet tall, motions for the two guards standing on the inside of the bar, to raise the portcullis. It rises slowly and with little sound. One at a time, each of you can walk through. The guards do not touch you, but they look each of you over from all sides. If someone has long hair, they are asked to raise it. It seems the majority of this group has grown up in rough places and have heard of people hiding short swords in their long wavy locks. Aztyr easily passes through, but then the lead guardsman stops her. "One second ma'am. You have been marked as having a weapon not allowed. Please step aside and remove whatever that might be." She is lead back out to the entry way where Ga waits patiently.

As Vorelle approaches and asks of axes, their response, "If it does more damage then a dagger, it is considered bigger then a dagger. You also need to muzzle your mutt ma'am. Can't take no chances on it biting someone and if you need a dog for protection, then you don't belong here." She is asked to step aside until he is muzzled, but they do not seem mean about it, just indifferent. Uel passes his support off with magic and the guards seem about as impressed with his skills as the wizard was with how they handled those uncourteous to the mistress. When Vauhwyt hands over her weapons, she attempts to go ethereal and the guards now freak out. When she comes back to this dimension, they rush inside and the portcullis shuts.

Appolo is still outside the portcullis and unable to reach his friends or their weapons.

The guards look very upset at the Grims attempt to thwart their procedures. They reach out and attempt to grab her by the arms. As well, the lead guard says "HOLD! Stop and exit the way you came in. You were not inspected!"

Those now on the other side of the portcullis are in a small passage way that appears to travel about thirty feet turning left from the portcullis and then goes down stairs. The smell of smoke and stale ale is clear, but one has not entered main room.

Will the guards be attacked by the heros or will Vauhwyt submit to the demands of the bouncers, who for some reason take their job, very, very seriously.

In another part of the Wold, Valanthe "has seen more since her rescue from the slavers than most people do in a lifetime. Valanthe knew the power of anger but now she wouldn't let it control her." The pains from her past are now perhaps healed from her profound reverie, when she is brought back to the present by a small knock at her door. The knock is unconfident and light, as though, one hopes the occupant does not answer or they are afraid to disturb such a powerful and renown person in a small community.

Oh, Vauhwyt submits, sure.

"Come, now, boys," she says, "No one said it was against the rules to enter the Realm of Shadows, where my lord Gargul rules, where the souls of those a-borning and those newly dead swim in rivers of the blood of the Wold. Search all you like, I have nothing to hide."

She grins and submits to any search.

"I serve the gods of life, death, and vengeance -- nothing up my sleeve, nothing in my shadow."

She motions, and in fact anyone who looks can see that she has no shadow.

"Enter." Valanthe says as she props herself up on an elbow. Her nightshirt shifts and she brushes hair out of her eyes that is no longer there. Without waiting for the person to enter, Valanthe sits up and swings her legs off the side of the bed. She stretches a little. Getting the blood flowing through her limbs once more. Reverie often left her stiff from the lack of movement. Tingling extremeties that she found quite annoying.

She then re-enters the bar area and shrugs if any of her friends give her a questioning look.

A friendly face/DM Buzz
Sunday March 28th, 2010 4:39:49 PM

The group is allowed to enter the main room after some controversy. The mention of hating spell casters from one of the guards is easily overheard by those that speak minotaur, but soon enough, the last member is allowed in and the portcullis closes behind him as a few loud orcs come in soon after and seem to know the guards as laughing is heard behind you all.

At the end of the narrow ramp, well, narrow to a large creature, you take a right and continue down some stairs. The sound is loud as a ruckus of some sort is happening in the main room. The group descends down into a smoke filled haze, at least at first, then the group can see a large room that is paneled in taur wood, which is a bright red color, when first cut. It is thought to be denoted from the many wars between the taur islands and all the blood that was shed. Even the sap is a bright red as if ones life fluid is oxygenated. As it ages it turns a darker and darker brown and so, the walls of this establishment look nearly black from the time this place was first built.

Hanging from the roof are oil filled chandeliers. There are six of them placed across the ceiling, with only three of them going at any one time. There is a small hole in the roof, likely the only ventilation for the entire establishment as the smoke from pipes, cigars and the lamps lighting this place drift up and forms a thick layer of almost breathable air. The patrons obviously look forward to descending to the main room, thirty feet from the entry corridor.

Walking down the extremely sturdy steps, many tables rest on the rooms floor. They look old, and almost not usable. The many bar room fights have left them quite decrepit. Some of them only have three legs and are supported by someone knee. Not only that, but they don't seem to have been wiped down since the second migration, with visibly noticeable liquids, from who knows what, dripping down the sides of the round and square tops. There are a few chairs, here and there, but all seem to be occupied. Around the walls are many stools, bolted down to the floor to discourage their use as weapons and a long shelf, representing a table runs along the wall in front of the round topped chairs.

Capering about on the large rectangular stage are two groups of goblins, each in an ugly, jester type uniform. One side is a bright yellow and orange where the other is wearing pink and purple. It seems they are creating some type of battle or competition. Goblins wearing one uniform sits on an others shoulders which is on their same team. The one on top has resting on their shoulders completely covering their noggin, a goats head, freshly killed and carved out. The are wielding dark tipped mops and the goblin on the bottom seems to be giving direction to the one on top swinging the wet and sooty weapon at a similar opponent in a different uniform. Betting seems to be taking place on the scene and gold exchanges hands regularly.

Now, on the far wall standing on a platform, must be the mistress. She appears to be a centaur, but she is very old by looking at her, perhaps hundreds of years old, seeing how she is stuffed. Indeed, the hair on her torso is flaking away showing leathery cured skin. her left arm is missing midway at the humerus and her fingers on the right hand also appear to be missing. What was once thick, long dark hair are now wisps and strands hanging down on a deformed face. her body is undressed and equally deformed due to age and abuse.

Bardamion is easy to spot, he is sitting in the middle of the room in his fine robes. His table is human sized and actually, until the group just entered, he was the only medium sized creature in the room. He sits in his fine robes with a glass of wine in his hand and a large tankard with many glasses sitting at likely the only clean surface in the joint.

He motions over those with the group and the crowd seems to eagerly grant passage to those that would join the strange and out of place humanoid sitting alone.

Having never met Bardamion before, Whysper is at first unsure if this is their contact. She looks around to see if he was indeed gesturing to the group, and deciding that he was, gives Uel a nudge to indicate the man. She begins to make her way to Bardamion.

She keeps her hands near her pockets to prevent fellow thieves from trying to help themselves to the contents - she's been in bars like this before!

Malgant strides over to Bardamion and greets the man warmly with a hearty handshake, clapping the man on the back as he shakes his had. We are well met as always Bardamion. This place is secure enough to discuss what has happened in the past few days? If you say so then so it shall be. These two" Indicating Whysper and Uel." are new friends. I would be honored if you would discuss with them all that we do and offer them a position with us. I have seen nothing in them that makes me doubt them morally and they seemed willing enough to help when the need arose during our last job. We have told them enough to satisfy their curiosity, but it should be you or your family that tells them everything, as you did when we came into your care. Nebin chose not to return here with us, but I have a plan to bring Val back, hopefully today, if all else fails tomorrow." From the way he speaks it sounds like Malgant has an alternate plan for finding and retrieving Val. from the relief in his voice it sounds like he thinks it will be simple and that he should have thought of it a long time ago.

OOC
would it be possible to change one of my spells that I prayed for this morning? After your email Buzz I started looking at the problem of finding Val so that we could teleport there ourselves and I can't BELIEVE how I have missed it for so long. If changing spells is out I am sure the temple may have what I need ( a scrying or greater scrying spell) on hand or Bardamion may even have it prayed for today. Once we scry her and Aztyr views the spot she is in teleporting goes from dangerous to pretty possible.

Uel is somewhat put off by the decor. With such vigilant guards at the door he had expected a more upscale business. Carefully not stepping in anything questionable he follows the group to Bardamion's table, giving the other patrons a wide berth.

Vorelle
Monday March 29th, 2010 2:00:30 AM

Champ has never been muzzled before, and Vorelle isn't sure how well he will take to it. Also, she doesn't have one. She considers asking permission to just leave him outside. But it's a rough neighborhood, and they have just gotten through a long separation.

And it seems that the establishment has muzzles to lend, so Vorelle works to keep her friend calm while he is muzzled. She is a bit taken aback by the interior of the place. She hadn't imagined there could be anything seedier than a Grubber bar, but here it is.

She approaches Bardamion with the others, anxious to conclude their business and get out of this place.

Vauhwyt (HP90+18 AC28) and Mookie (HP45+18 AC19)
Monday March 29th, 2010 8:57:50 AM

Vauhwyt's expression darkens, and the joviality she expressed in her talk with the bouncers evaporates like a water elemental under red dragon breath.

"I don't think much of your meeting place, Bardamion," she says. "It is hard to imagine that you have any intent other than to insult us. Please explain your purpose, and if you truly desire respectable conversation, we can move to another venue. Now."

Vauhwyt does not sit down. By the swish of her tail and the flexing of her claws, she communicates her feelings pretty clearly. As does her glare at the "decor" and the "entertainment."

"I won't stay herre. Unless you quickly give a more compelling reason than I can imagine exists, we can leave togetherr, or we can part company." Her accent reveals the depth of her feeling.

The group walks down the stairs and sitting at the clean table is a very tall elf looking male. He must have some half elven traits, or at least, that is the description he wants everyone to see.

A warm face greets you all, and a handshake is returned to Malgant in return, he greets the new heros to the group, Whysper and Uel, and says hello to Champ and Vorelle again. Some are quite hostile at the scenery however and ultimatums are issued to the powerful, if not much smaller, individual that invited them to this inn. That cheerful demeanor leaves Bardamion and a piercing cold stare replaces his visage as it locks onto Vauhwyts own scowl. Taking his left hand, Bardamion reaches across his body and grabs the table, then tips it over onto the side and slides it into a group of four minotaurs that frown at the disturbance. The crystal glasses that were resting on the table shatter as they hit the ground and the wine splashes up and onto just about everybody and everything in the immediate area. The horned man the table hit, brushes the small object aside, now finding more immediate amusement then the capering goblins. He licks his arm...clean... not wanting to waste what alcohol hit him.

Bardamion sits there for a full second before he rises to his feet and walks right up to the Grim Avenger, looking up in the process and in a very calm manner explains, "I don't need to explain anything, to anybody at any time." With that, he turns away and plainly says, "Anyone that wishes to join me, may." He then walks away toward the back of the room, where another set of stairs ascend back up, to a different location then the entrance.

Appolo can't help but laugh as makes his way over to the stage with the goblins.Looking around for anyone taking bets he smiles and says"I'll put 10 silver on the pink and purple."He watches as the group goes up another set of stairs he let's them go without him.Appolo is in his lelment he isa pirate after all and seems to be enjoying himself as makes small talk with the other patrons.

Whilst walking, Whysper tries to inconspicuously have a good look at the Mistress. She must have indeed been powerful to have commanded the respect, loyalty, or perhaps even fear of this crowd.

She tries to remain alert to her immediate surroundings.

Even if it turned out to be nothing Val wasn't about to snap on the person. She had to remember that she was a big deal to these people. That this may be the biggest thing that happned in their lives. One thing that Val always tried to remember was that because she looked like a dark elf didn't mean she had to act like one

Vorelle
Monday March 29th, 2010 11:12:45 PM

Vorelle jumps at the crash of the table and glassware hitting the floor. For a moment, she nearly falls back into her old pattern of cowering and withdrawing from things that startle her. Then she tells herself sternly that she's not like that now.

Champ tries once or twice to bark, but the muzzle prevents it. He whines anxiously.

Concerned about broken glass on sensitive paw-pads, Vorelle picks Champ up and carries him past the mess. He is an awkward armful, and heavy, but she doesn't want him to get hurt.

She sets Champ down once they are past the broken glass, and together they head for the back where Bardmion went.

Kage climbs onto Uel's head and chitters something that only he would understand. The odd four legged dance he executes is a striking counterpoint to the befuddled expression on the dark elf's face. After a moment of perplexed silence the elf smiles and says, "Kage agrees, Whysper. This has certainly become a very interesting place!" More softly, and to himself he adds, "I must remember to keep a few charm spells on hand in the future. What fun!" He also moves toward the stairs, moving carefully so he does not upset the little rat's dance.

When thier host began to lead them towards a set of stairs she was pleased that they were leaving the bar propper.
Aztyr whispers under her breath during the noise of the bar, allowing the message spell to carry it to her friends, "Vauhwyt, it'd be good to remember EXACTLY whom or patron is. I doubt that he ever is truely ever threatened by anyone, ever."

Vauhwyt listens intently to Mal and sighs. She seems a little embarrassed that she let her emotions get away from her.

"Eh, I don't want to make trouble on Minotaur Isle standing up for a dead centaurr. If I stood up for all the dead centaurs, there would be no end to it. What I'll do is use my Lord Gargul's gifts to see if the poor dead creature's spirit -- or any other spirits -- haunts the place. If so, it will be my duty to help the lost soul find rest. If not, we can assume that the soul has gone on to The Lands of Rest, and we'll let the issue be. Okay?"

Another friendly face/DM Buzz
Wednesday March 31st, 2010 12:14:54 AM

Valanthe stretches and answers the door. It is late indeed and the village should still be asleep. The door squeaks open and before her is a small girl holding a stick and a blanket. She has long blond hair and deep blue eyes. Standing about three and a half feet tall, her night gown appears almost to small with little pink toes sticking out from small feet. She looks up at the ever morphing dark skinned elf and her eyes well up. "Daddy says you are leaving us. Please say it isn't so...please.." Obviously, the small child pleads and is not asking for her hero to stay. "Who else can tr..trai... train me to be a hero too?", she cries.

Appolo watches as the group walks toward the stairs. Two of the local bouncers stand on each side at the bottom and as the group gets closer, a minotaur wearing a stained apron approaches Bardamion about the disturbance, the half elf flips him a very shiny and large platinum piece, which quickly appeases the worker who now has to go clean up the glass. As Bardamion reaches the stairs, he whispers in each of their ears and nods toward the ballroom, slipping each a similar coin as before, receiving a smile and a nod in turn. The human pirate is now surrounded by cut throats and mercenaries, most are actually both. The orcs and half orcs that recently came in start drinking heavily, eyeing the human pirate, since he is likely the only one of their size. The minotaurs too look upon Appolo with interest, but they mostly say nothing, until the wager is made and they all laugh. A one eyed, one legged minotaur shouts back, "My wee small child has that as a weekly allowance. I will take that bet for him!" The laughs come about, but one can tell, it's likely not in a hostile manner, they are just testing the waters with the new human. Soon after, a half orc comes over from the table with a scowl on his face. He walks up to the tall human and eyes him up and down. "Nice tattoos!" He says as a matter of fact. He rolls up his sleeves and exhibits very similar tattoos as well. You recognize him as Vambrace, never knew if that was his real name or not, but he worked the sails well and had keen eyes. "It has been a very long time you mongrel ship rat. You are sitting with us and your not buying a drink all night!" Unless Appolo completely resists, he is drug over to the table and introduced to his family members. His uncle is getting married to a human girl with money, so it's an exciting time!

The group walks up the stairs and as the last is witness to, a drunk minotaur acting as though he is going to follow the heros. After all, Bardamion said, anyone that wanted to, may, but as he gets closer to the stairs, the guard on the left holds his hand up and points back toward the common room. The people in this bar have seen what it is like to be escorted out and he quickly follows the advice of those paid to protect everyone.

The walk is long as the group goes through a few passages, but also, the further you walk, the nicer things become and next, there are lamps outside and even more guards. But now, they hold scepters and wear chain mail. In common one asks, "Is an escort necessary Lord Gyser?" The one you knew as Bardamion just raises a hand, waving them away like servants. Walking up to the room, he just turns the knob and opens the door. It doesn't even appear to be locked.

Stepping inside is a very nice suite, with intricate carpets and well gilded tables. There do not appear to be windows visible, but all the walls have a blue and red faux pattern that matches well the oil lamps giving off a nice bright light, just enough as to not make the wick bellow black smoke.

Sitting in one of a few fine chairs is Sherentiva. She appears to be a human in all respects, but she claims to be the second sibling to Bardamion when she gracefully stands and introduces herself to those she has not met and hugging those she knows well. She seems to notice Bardamions dark mood, but pays it no mind as she asks if she can get anyone refreshments. The tall half elf in fine robes and nice jewelry sits himself down in the head Captains Chair, where he can face those that sit on the couch, another chair, or cushions which seem to be abundant on the floor. He doesn't say any thing, just looks at Malgant and waits.

Valanthe
Wednesday March 31st, 2010 9:31:40 AM

Valanthe smiles brightly and crouches down. This was the reward that was more valuable than gold or magic. Valanthe reaches out and gently brushes some hair out of the girl's eyes. "Honey there are still monsters out there. I have to go fight the monsters so villages like this one are safe. I can give you your first and most important lesson on being a hero. It's all about what's in here." Valanthe says and places her hand over her heart.

"Heroes are different than normal people because deep inside they want to help people. That isn't something that can be taught."

Valanthe rises and walks over to her haversack. She draws out a silver piece and a dagger. For a moment she considered gold but somebody would take that from her. Valanthe uses the dagger and etches her name in elvish across one side and in common across the other. She returns the dagger to her pack and walks back over to the girl, crouching down once more.

"This is for you little one. A secret present. On this silver piece is my name both in elvish and common. Elves live a long time. If the fates decide we may meet again. Now little one, what is your name? So when I hear the tales of your deeds I can say I knew her when she had the cutest little smile."

As Malgant tops the stairs and is ready to go through the door to the private rooms he looks back down into the bar at Appolo. Off on his own again what, 2 days after being killed for wandering off alone? The Minotaur shakes his head. Inside Bardamion's room He greets Sherentiva warmly, glad to see others of the Cloudprance family here. Malgant then gets a glass of wine and sits down in one of the chairs that looks sturdy enough to support him in his armor. He notes Bardamion's gaze and after a sip of wine relates the tale from the time of leaving Gnym to arriving here today.
" We had two deaths. One when Appolo wandered off on his own when digging seemed to be too much work for him. He was paralyzed by the Dread spellcasters sent after us and then run through with his own blade. Later in the battle under the island Vauhwyt and Vorelle were cut off from the rest of us by most of the Dread's Lich footmen. Vauhwyt was slain and Vorelle barely escaped alive. For that matter all of us barely escaped alive. We returned to my temple here on the island and from there went to Gargul's realm to gather our fallen. Gargul released us back to the island where we began the exploration of the artifact. After going through what was called the Labyrinth of Despair, a structure inside the artifact that either transported us into Jericho space or simulated sending us there we reasoned with the artifact and rather than destroy it we gained its trust and talked it into releasing the people it had taken into safekeeping at the end of the first age. One of the faeries held in the artifact was named Ringalingling. She granted us a wish which will come true tomorrow morning. She agreed to hide the island from being found again and to keep the artifact both safe and keep it company . We then were returned to the temple this morning. If you are able, or if the temple has a scroll of Scrying we would like too scry Val and teleport to her and return her to our group."

Revenge/DM Buzz

Sherentiva seems to be the only one that expresses emotion at the deaths of the party members and that of sadness. Bardamion remains without feelings at this time and continues to look at the minotaur Protector until he is finished. He reaches into a drawer nearby and pulls out an inkwell, a pen and a binder of paper and hands it to Sherentiva, for her to documant the adventure. Bardamion then stands and leaves the immediate room, going down a hall and shutting a door behind himself.

Now, the group goes through a few bottles of wine as Sherentiva asks, literally, around five hundred questions. Some which seem obscure and others quite fitting. She asks about the animals, the natives, the fish, the waters, the island and all the other islands. The type of rock the tunnels were made of. The type of minerals and precious materials the artifact seemed to be created from. Half the group is likely dozing off before Bardamion returns.

In the bar room, Appolo has a wonderful time, but still, he is in a dangerous place.
Appolo needs to roll a d100. Anything over 75% is a dangerous encounter he will have to deal with. Anything between 75% and 50% is a minor encounter. Anything less then 50% earns an uneventful evening.

Valanthe puts to rest the child's fears and the little girl asks, "But are all the undead gone? What if they come back? What if they are still here? What if , they want revenge?" With that, she grows fangs and launches herself at the female hero.

Valanthe needs to roll a sense motive check, DC 20 on a hunch or be caught Flat Footed. If caught flat footed, please give me AC while sleeping minus dexterity bonuses.

It is still the monsters round, but I want to see your roll first please. Map of room will come with next post.

Valanthe AC ? HP 122 / 122  d20=19 ;
Wednesday March 31st, 2010 10:11:01 PM

I believe it has to be the base 10. She removed her gear for reverie. Probably could be 12 if the ring of prot +2 applies. I could see somebody leaving a ring on but not an amulet. She isn't trained in sense motive. Rolled a 19. Valanthe has a +1 Wisdom bonus. If that applies she would make the DC of 20. Since elves don't dream there is no way she can expect this to be anything but real. That actually popped into my head today for reasons I can't remember but if somebody never dreamed how could you explain it to them?

If she somehow has her gear:
Normal: 32
Flat Footed: 31
Against Incorperal: 25

Gear-Less:
Normal: 14 (10, dex +2, rop +2)
Flat Footed: 12

DM Buzz: OOC: Wisdom is not to be under rated, very nice roll!

An amulet is a necklace, so you could wear that to bed, as well as the ring. I see you do not have the Endurance Feat. I would recommend you find some light armor, like a chain shirt, to sleep in, for occassions like this. :)

While answering questions about animals, fish, plants, water, minerals, weather patterns, etc., Vorelle is far from bored. She is animated, and speaks more than most people have probably ever heard her. This is her area of expertise, and she is eager to share it. Especially now that she can talk properly.

Feeling a little ashamed -- an Avenger should not let offense show so visibly -- Vauhwyt tries now to make amends by playing it cool. She welcomes the chance to talk with Sherentiva, and patiently joins in answering questions.

"For what it is worth, if I may, I have to admit that the artifact still confuses me. Lady, if you would share your deductions with us, I for one would be very grateful to hear your insights. Especially, how could it contain a fey lord that has the power to grant multiple wishes."

"Also, the enemy we faced -- the dreadlords and warrior liches -- are most troubling, especially to a follower of Lord Gargul. Who are those undead? What is their goal? If we can pursue and engage them, what would be your advice?"

Other than that, she watches and listens to Vorelle, simply stuned at how much she it talking.

He doesn't seem himself. Is Lady Xil here also? When we were recruited she was the one to talk to us and explain things. I think that Uel and Whysper can be an asset to the group. If they are to join us though they need to have the situation fully explained to them."

Surely the fact that the artifact will not be being used by the Sons of Dread is a good thing right?" He quickly shuts his trap. If something IS wrong his blathering on will likely only aggravate it.

The fiend jumps at Valanthe from the door way attempting to embrace the hero, "You killed my soul!" she screams, "I was to take him to the shadows with me, but no, you had to send him to Gargul! You will die!" She reaches for the dark elf warrior and does not provoke an attack of opportunity from the unarmed, unarmored hero.(See Special Attacks summary under house rules)

The Attack DC for the fiend is 14
The defender, Valanthe has a Grapple DC of DC 27

Valanthe, stays on her toes and avoids the grappling effect of whatever this demon spawn is, now what will she do? Valanthe is certain, whatever is attacking her is not from this world. Her weapons, easily within reach...(5' step needed to get to equipment that is 8' away.)

Valanthe

Appolo is in a bar with a bunch of people that are likely meaner and nastier then even he cares to think about. Yea, sure, Appolo is a pirate, ruthless to his enemies, but he still has a good heart. He is witness to some things down stairs during that night, that not even he can really tolerate very well. Sure, he wins the 10 silver pieces he bet, but then, the losing goblins get tied to a rack and the winners get to throw miniature darts at the losers, inflicting terrible pain on those less skilled at swinging a wet heavy mop. Nothing lethal evident, but clearly, those struck yell out in pain to the amusement of the crowd. That isn't even the worst of it! The burlesque shows that come on after the goblins clear the stage leaves very little to the imagination with far to much to mention, causing this narrator to get banned from this venue. At any time, Appolo can make his way to the stairs and will receive an escort to the room where the others are.

Malgant goes into much detail on the subject of the last few days and his focus is on the deaths of his comrades and those that would stand in the way of this group. He has concerns for the new members, noting their worth and possible value to the group, considering they lost two heros to the whims of Gargul.

Vorelle takes much delight in communicating clearly with those that can hear her speech. Her amazing ability to recall the many natural conditions and creatures as well as some unnatural is astounding and Sherentiva seems quite happy, for all the ranger has to say, if she still had a stutter, she would likely have been handed her own pen and paper.

Vauhwyt has a bitter sweet taste in her mouth as watching her old friend speak plainly rubs on her heart strings, while in her gut, she feels bad about earlier displays and wonders how to make amends, so she too volunteers as much information as possible. She asks about the artifact and how it could be as powerful as a faerie granting wishes.

Aztyr gives an account of being an umberhulk and the sensation of electricity when she attempted to penetrate the dark stone with her massive claws. She includes other information also, like the effectiveness of a flying rhinoceros through an entangled area full of very nasty plants. Not to mention, the dark ritual, her, the pirate rogue and the druid saw over Izen.

Whysper thinks about her future when she realizes, there is more to know then meets the eye. Thoughts of running a complex organization dealing in semi-nefarious goods and practices flee from her thoughts for the moment as now she is aware, there is more to these people then she originally thought.

Uel does not have to stand long, in elven standards anyway, before him and his roguish companion are asked many questions. A deep and thorough investigation into their lives come up. Where were they born, where have they lived. Past companions and how you both met.

Indeed, Sherentiva asks these questions not in a manner of judgement or accusation, but as a matter of scientific fact, with which they can extrapolate any number of answers from the questions their powerful minds can conceive.

When the dark ritual over Izen is mentioned, she stops writing and looks up a moment before continuing on with her barrage of questions. Land marks and terrain types. Izen is a large area.

When Malgant asks about Bardamion and his mood, she casually says, "Some fool drunk minotaur likely challenged him in some way. He gets that way when he doesn't get to eat something that insults him. He will be over it in a decade or two, I am sure." She goes back to writing before answering the Protectors second question, "Mother and Daphenella need to evacuate Cloudprance Manor. The Ga'alian high priests have imposed a martial law on the state after the last migration and is... (she uses her fingers, with the pen sticking through her right hand fingers) "ENCOURAGING" those not willing to take a heart seed, leave their theocracy. Apparently Ga'al is upset at the dissidence of his children whom he had loved and that is what caused the migration to occur. That is what they are spouting anyway. There have been a mass exodus by those seeking a new life away from submission, so the Culverwood and Izen are receiving a large refugee occupation as well as Fargunia to the north. Everyone has been given a week to decide if they will accept Ga'als' love once again or they may leave with their possessions without them being taxed. It is an ugly time right now, so we need a new base of operations. As for our new friends here with us, all good news will come at a time that is most appropriate." Having answered some questions, which is only fair seeing as how she asked around two hundred times more then the group so far.

She continues from where she left off until Bardamion returns to the group.

He walks over to his chair and sits down as Sherentiva hands him the couple of dozen pages she has written so far. His attention is on the very first page and he beings to read. Sherentiva again gets the attention of the group. "Let us go over this Dread again as well as the one named Vandmark and Beeble. Six fighters in heavy armor and two human arcane spell casters. No divine casters? You say the warriors were also identified as liches that... are warriors, is that correct? Where did you get this information? Have you brought what items they were carrying with you? Perhaps we can gain some knowledge from these to help us explore who they all were."

Light Fortification, AC 26, 92/92 hp Malgant
Friday April 2nd, 2010 11:12:56 PM

" The priests at my temple who are far more versed in the undead than I identified them. I can describe them in some detail, and the other priests that identified them can probably add more observations, Their gear and all that they carried is back at the temple in the keeping of the elder. You can examine it and see if something in it makes more sense to you than it did to us. They were 2 arcane casters and they FORCED Beeble to act on their behalf. He was a spell caster but I cannot recall of what kind, possibly abjuration, I think the globe of invulnerability was his doing. They used his loved ones as hostages. We were unable to save them and when they died he became angry, stopped attacking us and helped kill the Dread( I think). When it was over he ended his own life. The undead fought with precision and skill. They held ranks complemented each other where their formation allowed and were nearly the end of our chaotic attempt to fight them. In the end Lorth and I managed to kill most of them. Lorth with his blade and I with healing magic and weapon damage. I brought one of the undead bodies back to the temple. I think it is still there."
" As for the trouble at home, I would much rather we deal with the Ga'alian problem and remove their oppressive god from the face of the Wold. But, they have an entire country of brainwashed hive minded warriors behind them and likely we would not stand much of a chance. I will pray for those still caught inside the Theocracy's borders at the end of the week, for the loss of their free will. I can ask at the temple if any of the priests or warriors wish to hire on as security with you for the time it takes to relocate. For the chance to crush a few Ga'alian skulls I think I could find some volunteers for you, if you need them."
" If you wish to view the body or gear from the Dread minions we could all retire to the temple. I am ... ashamed of the barbaric spectacle this Inn represents and I would like to leave here. Now that I have an idea how to reach Val I would also like to accomplish that as soon as possible."

Sherentiva answers Vauhwyts question also. "As you could likely tell, the Teucri artifacts have different effects on different creatures. This artifact you secured had a rupulsion effect on all magical creatures. That is why our family needed your assistance. The fey, were overcome by the power of the device when it initiated it's defensive prodedures, but then, there was a negative effect once the Fairy Lady interacted with the device. Like electricity, they were immedietly bound to each other, each resisiting the dominance of the other. That is only an assumption though. One of us will eventually attempt to locate this Ringalingling and see how things fare."

Clearly this creature wanted to get its undead hands upon her. Something that Valanthe guessed would be a very bad thing. There were so many things undead could do to the living with but a touch and all of them were bad. So instead of Gargul's Fist, Valanthe took a quick step and grabbed her new tower shield. She was tall for an elf and this mithril shield was nearly as big as she was. It should help greatly in keeping the creature away.

Vauhwyt (HP90+18 AC28) and Mookie (HP45+18 AC19)
Sunday April 4th, 2010 12:09:19 AM

Vauhwyt listens carefully to what Sherentiva and Mal say. Her first thought is that there is too much to do, and not enough time to do it.

"Before dawn, we need to show you the items we picked up from the lich-warriors. That means you, Lady Sherentiva, coming with us to the Temple to look them overr, or we going to get them and then coming back."

"In addition, before dawn we need to go fetch Val. Your help might well make a huge difference in that."

[OOC Note: the range on a Teleport is 100 miles per caster level. The Southern Continent is farther than that, for sure. We need a Greater Teleport if we are to do it tonight before the wishes come true.]

"At dawn, wishes come true, and that means our business here must be concluded."

Vauhwyt listens carefully to the stories out of Aisildur.

"Now, this is very interesting news, for sure. The theocrats must have been pretty cheesed off when Val and Appolo and Ashira and everyone killed the mother heartseed. They've likely been itching for a chance to "purify" the country."

And while, sure fighting Ga'alians in Aisildur might be fun -- not to mention very risky -- we have to think about the refugees being driven out. Those going to Farungia are likely the best off. Those going to the Culverwood are in the kinds of trouble we can do nothing to help. But the ones headed to Izen we can help. And they will need help."

"A stream of freedom-loving Aisildurians headed into Izen will be easy marks for the mounted orc-tribes and worse that claim that land. If those refugees are to survive, they will need help."

Vauhwyt thinks. "If we had mastered the control of those floating islands in Blackbird Lake, we could take refugees therre. But alas, we cannot contol the motion of these islands, nor their floatation."

"Hey wait!" Vauhwyt grins. "I know of a place, or ratherr, I will at dawn -- a place recently to be vacated! Once we clean the stink of goblin out, I bet we can found a nice little village of refugees from Aisildurr."

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 48+20/48)
Sunday April 4th, 2010 12:40:32 AM

Whysper starts to fidget impatiently. There is a lively inn just outside the door, with many a heavy purse, and she's stuck here listening to stories, answering questions and reliving the past few days. Best guess, Bardamion and Sherentiva are diplomats of some sort, or at the very least some sort of political figures.

As Vauhwyt speaks, Whysper stands and walks over to a side table, helping herself to a small piece of fruit and some cheese. A small silver knife catches her eye, but she resists any urge to touch it - for now.

She sits back down on her cushion, and letting her mind wander, considers what her chances would be of successfully pocketing a knife or two before she leaves. No doubt slim, but thinking of it calms her mind and settles her from the current proceedings.

Whysper gets Uel's attention, and tosses him a small piece of the cheese. "For Kage" she mutters quietly, not wanting to interupt the others.

Uel smiles at Whysper as he catches the cheese in midair, no hands of course. Kage quickly devours the cheese and disappears to his usual hiding spot behind Uel's high collar. Soon after, Kage slips out a sleeve and works his way to the floor, deciding to sniff around the place and see if he can find anything interesting. Of course, he tries not to be seen and keeps in contact with Uel through their link. He explores as much of the building as possible, in search of anything shiny, tasty, or fun. (Hide: 26, Search: 13) He pays special attention to other VIP rooms where valuables may have been left unattended.

(ooc: Kage has been known to make off with pouches of jewelry, stashing them for Uel to retrieve later.)

" The Culverwood is a beautiful place provided you respect the forest. I doubt it would tolerate many refugees for long though, unless they were in the new villages from the last cleansing of 'infidels' from Aisildur territory. I know where one of those is. They might know enough of the forest to convince it to allow another village. Last I saw they had made a peace with the wood and that was awhile ago with the Swords of Light. Your plan for making them a home may work too Vauhwyt. As for Val we don't know where she is. The greater reach we have the better, but we may still be able to reach her on our own. We will have to see."

What will come?/DM Buzz  d20+14=17 ;
Monday April 5th, 2010 8:33:48 PM

Valanthe attempts to use her tower shield in full defense, but her picking up the item and equiping it with a creature attempting to grapple her is not so successful this round. No matter though for the blond haired child with big and wild blue eyes grabs at the female warrior one again, only to fail horribly. She continues to struggle for an embrace, "I will suck your soul from your corpse as Gargul watches and give birth to a quasit in your name!"

Appolo makes it to the room in short order and joins the others. he will notice, he is not asked any questions this evening, but this likely does not mean he will get away from relating his ordeal on his death, in his own words, as well as other aspects of the journey, in the morning.

When the group is done answering questions, it is very late or extremely early. The group still has a few hours before their wishes come true. Malgant stresses the fact that their long lost companion will return to the group.

With this Bardamion crosses his right leg over his left and with his elbows resting on the chair arms, his fingertips touch in front of him, "I have serious concerns about the flux with which this group works. In the short time we have known you, people have come and gone and it is jeopardizing our mission. Granted, no one was aware of the last migration a few days ago, but we would have gladly went and retrieved Val when we first arrived. She on the other hand was the first to break the contract and now she wants to return? For how long I have to ask myself."

With this, Whysper is thinking of pilfering the dining ware set before her for convenience. Uel sends his well fed friend off to explore the place. The suite has six bedrooms, each with a chamber pot. A dinner table and wood stove in a kitchenette with the large living room. The rodent familiar can tell, there is no escape from this suite. He also can not enter rooms where the doors are closed. The suite itself seems to be completely sealed, as if to prevent even vapors from going through various peoples private rooms. Likely for security sake. As for tasty and fun, when his curiosity is sated, he makes his way back to where there is a lovely ham with bacon stuffed mushrooms just calling his name.

Vauhwyt adds her concerns on what the group should do next, obviously willing to give up the fight for Teucri knowledge to save the Woldians alive today. Aztyr speaks on retrieving Val and the difficulty of this without a wish being granted. Vorelle has explained all she knows and on topics out of her expertise, she leaves those queries for others.

Sherentiva calmly adds to the conversation, without any hostility. "All decisions on these matters are finalized by mother, but our advice and thoughts are held in high standards with her opinion."

Bardamion asks Sherentiva if they have scrolls of divination or teleport that will help them. She thinks but a second and replies, "We have a surplus on those." she answers. Tapping his fingers once, "We will sell you a Greater Teleport scroll and a SCRYING scroll at Catacombs price. We can't by law under cut them. At least you can use them here tonight instead of waiting until morning for the store to open. If you want to stay here for the evening, there are rooms for two large occupants each or if you desire, you may leave." With that he stands and exits the room with the paper work. His mind busy with all that he needs to read... or other things.

Sherentiva smiles as he exits and says in a low tone, "It was one of you I see." She smiles and goes back into a room, then returns a few minutes later with a couple of scrolls and a mirror. "I have to charge you what my brother says, but I can assist you for free if you desire." She offers, in a friendly fashion. She addresses concerns for the vulgarity of this establishment, "Two hundred years ago, slaves were tortured to death on the stage. One hundred years ago, Centaurs were forced to fight each other in a gladiatorial fashion. If they refused, they were both killed by acid vials thrown from the booing crowd. Today, there are consensual adults performing on the stage and yes, the goblins do receive some rough punishment when they lose, they are just as happy to win the contest and inflict the damage. Things are much more under control since Daphenella became the mistress of The Mangled Centaur. At one time, the worst of the worst would come here to trade, in anything worth money. They literally put millions of platinum pieces into this place to keep out unwanted visitors as well as people looking for other people or those attempting to bring in powerful weapons. This inn is likely the safest place to be when the Dread are searching for their enemies. If you are going to ask how my little sister became the proprietor of this place, I will have to defer the question to her."

She places all the items on the table waiting for the group to decide what they want to do. "We can deal with the magic items and the lich corpse in the morning. There is no need to wake those just a few hours before they would rise anyway."

Vauhwyt is struck weak for a moment as a flash goes off in her head, directly from her goddess.

Alright everyone, please send me a private email with what your real wish is, except for Val of course...sorry.

Why was Val unable to perform 2 move actions? Picking up her shield and donning a shield? Normally you can make a 5' step and perform a full round action. The beast failed the grapple and was 5' away.
Thanks for Sherentiva volunteering to help with the spells since we would need UMD rolls( high I assume) to use them.
Unless there was cash money on the Dread casters I am at about 300 gold, so I can't buy scrolls.

Vauhwyt (HP90+18 AC28) and Mookie (HP45+18 AC19)

When Sherentiva says, "It was one of you I see," Vauhwyt swishes her tail in embarrassment.

"I'm afraid it was me. I was upset at the, um, roughness of the common room, and spoke a little too harshly. In truth, I am ashamed. Those who honor the Dark Lady are taught to keep control over their emotions, and I let mine get the best of me. In fact, my Lady has let me know in no uncertain terms that I am not ready to receive the blessing of justice that I desirre, and I am not to satisfy myself until I can control myself."

The liontaur says this in a calm, unemotional way, but a careful observer might see that the grip of her claws on the floor is so fierce that she may just leave a scratch or two.

"If I could apologize to your brotherr, I would," she tells Sherentiva. "I hope I will have the opportunity. In the meantime, your aid to us is most generous, so thank you."

The liontaur listens carefully to Mal when he mentions being able to use the scrolls. "Fear not," she says, "I can give it a try. But if this generous lady would help out, I am sure her proficiency far exceeds my own." [OOC: Do we need UMD to use these, or can Sherentiva do it for us? If the latter, do let's go get Val asap!]

[OOC: e-mail to Buzz with new wish, thanks!]

What will come?/DM Buzz

ooc: LOL, I had a Second Edition moment, sorry...

As for the shield, she was using it for total defense, that requires a full round action without attacks. Picking up and equiping a shield is to much in addition to the Total defense.

Anyone who looks at Uel will see him smiling for no apparent reason, but through their shared link, he is enjoying Kage's pleasure at finding a feast larger than himself.

Vorelle
Monday April 5th, 2010 10:57:25 PM

Whether they are staying or going, Champ needs to be taken for a walk. Vorelle takes him outside briefly, and lets him out of his muzzle. She is not gone long, as this is not a good part of town.

When she returns, she has a little supper, and waits to see what the group will do next.

Valanthe AC 21 HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Monday April 5th, 2010 11:50:47 PM

OOC: I was never going for total defense. Not even sure where that came from. Listed action (OOC) was just taking a 5' step and equipping the shield. The rest was an attempt at some description to make a better post. Instead of just saying Valanthe walks over and picks up her shield.

DM Buzz: My apologies for the misunderstanding. If you are not going for total defense, then the shield is worthless against a creature attempting to use a touch attack to grapple.

OOC: Wish sent to DM

Whysper relaxs back and settles herself in to her cushion. She does not want to be the first person to head off to the rooms for fear of missing out on anything. She's quite happy to call this her bed for the night if neee be.

Valanthe AC 21 HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Tuesday April 6th, 2010 7:21:07 AM

OOC: seriously? I figured that putting a shield that's bigger than the creature trying to grapple in the way would have an effect. I don't know if that's a rule straight from the PHB or something special to the wold but the lack of common sense in the rule is amazing.

I feel your pain, but I am just following the grappling rules that have been set down in the Woldipedia.

Grapple DC = 10 + Str Modifier + Size Mod + BAB + Feats

A Grapple involves a touch attack which negates most mundane armor.

"I am certin that if I were to try and cast that spell from a scroll, that somehow I would end up no where near Val, maybe even I'd have it blow up in my face leaving us all in trouble."
Having made herself clear she doubted her ability to cast them.
"As to paying for the scrolls, I have a few gems, I recieved from the catacombs and a little money, just tell us the cost and I might be able to afford them."

Yeah, I looked up grapple because I couldn't believe it and it is a touch attack. I guess the reasoning is that no amount of armor will stop something from grabbing you. What kind of damage they can do should be influenced by your armor, but I don't think that is taken into account either.

Buzz, we can't pay for the scrolls if we don't know what the spell is. Greater Teleport is in the DMG but there is no spell called magic mirror.

IC
As Appolo saunters in Malgant looks up from the discussion and speaks to the Pirate. " Had enough of hanging out with the lowlifes downstairs Appolo? Far be it from me to remind you we were here to be debriefed about our job or anything. Much less mention that the last time you wandered off you ended up dead with your own sword in your neck. Don't let me interrupt you though, it isn't like we are on a schedule or anything. Please go and get some rest after your trying day." Apparently Bardamion's anger with the group as a whole has touched a nerve in the Minotaur. Appolo may not have been the catylst for the remarks but wandered into the line of fire and was a much safer target than the already pissed off Bardamion. The retorts come out a bit more harshly than Malgant may have intended. Still the Minotaur does not take them back but returns to the discussion at hand. " I have little in the way of money on me, but here is what I have . It in no way will purchase either of those scrolls." Malgant produces 24 platinum pieces and 60 gold. He also pulls out two pouches of diamond dust obviously measured out for use as spell components.( 2, 250 gp pouches of diamond dust).

I hate to say this, but unless we all go, and start the new adventure from Val's location, we will need 2 greater teleport scrolls, or a small away team that I can Recall back to the temple om Minotaur isle.
Sorry to be the party pooper.
