Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Thursday April 1st, 2010 7:18:33 AM
Arm settles into a chair, and only then realizes how bone weary he is. Only half-listening to what is going on, he nibbles a bit of breakfast, and then says "If you'll all excuse me, I'm going to get some rest..It's been a long night.". He then goes up to his room and falls into a deep slumber.
Wynum Thursday April 1st, 2010 9:04:43 AM
"You're right Arm, it's been a long night, but think about those people who lost their homes. I don't care much for the mayor, though. Did you check whether those dwarves, and the Tea House owner were safe? I think our duty may extend to helping them out."
{OOC: Not so subtle hint at the new player, Paul/Beneficia, what's up? Time were troubled for an intro because of DM shifts but we'll fix that!}
Thar Thursday April 1st, 2010 2:28:58 PM
Thar wakes up early, says his morning prayers and joins the others for breakfast. "Shall we go to the mayor's house once everyone is up? I'm curious what he wants to speak with us about, and I want to get to the bottom of whomever is starting these fires... Furthermore, I've got a wedding to start planning once this case is over..."
When his beloved Ruby comes down, he gives her a kiss and warm greeting...
Edmund Thursday April 1st, 2010 5:24:54 PM
Edmund gets to work immediately upon returning, the day's events spurring him to action. Drawing (badly) a map of the manor, he identifies several locations of importance, and then with his spellbooks open before him, he establishes and arranges the protection methods that he will implement in the morning.
"Tomorrow," he thinks to himself as he looks over his work, "tomorrow."
((DM: Thanks for the update. Edmund's next post (presumably) will clarify all the spells that he is putting into effect. Have to check my PH and do a bit of desk work, so it will need to wait until Friday's post.))
A little advice please/DM Buzz Thursday April 1st, 2010 6:34:19 PM
The group is up late and some sleep in until mid morning. Once everyone that is going to see the mayor, is on their way, the smell of smoke still lingers, blending with the common smells of the city. It is easy to spot the group walking down the streets and reactions are mixed this morning. Some smile and nod at the hero's, while others avoid the group, casting their gaze toward the street as they pass or even crossing the street.
A vendor with a cart selling sweet street meats petals his wares. Often stopping to sell a few pies, then moving on, just to be stopped again. He looks at the group, "Two silver for a sweet meat pie?", he asks, offering each of you a sample, cut up from a single source.
Back on track, sweet pie or no, they soon find their way to the manor of the mayor. He welcomes you all and asks if you would like a mimosa with fruit or cheese? "I have to say, I am dumbfounded by what is happening around here. Never before has such a thing happened to an executive officer of this fine city during election time. I tell you, something is amiss!"
He paces with his cocktail in his right hand with a napkin holding a large red strawberry in his left. Both appear untouched as he looks thoughtful, trying to find the words for the current conversation. "I don't really know how to deal with this predicament. I'm no adventurer! I'm a paper pusher and a darn fine one!"
Frustration apparent on the face of the man that runs a city. He is in need of advice and in his own way, perhaps he is asking for it.
Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Friday April 2nd, 2010 8:41:17 AM
Arm rubs the heels of his hands into both eyes as if to grind the weariness away. Smiling wanly at Wynum, he agrees "Yes, I suppose you're right. Let us see to it.".
Once everything is out of the way, he heads with the rest to the mayor's mansion. After listening to his diatribe, he attempts to calm the official, "Let's go about this as logically as possible, Mr. Mayor. First of all, have you signed anything or performed any official act recently that would have upset anyone to the point where they would do something like this? Also, have you recently received any threats against you?".
Thar Friday April 2nd, 2010 9:19:29 AM
Thar listens to the man but says little in response to the politician's whining. He tries to be sympathetic but is not a big fan of "paper pushers." He says, "We appreciate your predicament, but why us? Why do you need our help and what sort of compensation is included if we help you?"
Hearing Arm's questions, he adds, "Do you think that it could be an opponent who is starting these fires, hoping to discredit you? Who is opposing your election?"
Revi AC15/13T/15FF HP 90/90 *BARKSKIN* -- Arashi AC19/11T/17FF HP 46/46 *BARKSKIN* d20+2=19 ; Friday April 2nd, 2010 4:41:56 PM
Taking a chance, Revi partakes of the Sweet Meat pie and finds that's it's very much to her liking--so she buys another piece and gobbles it down as they make their way to the mayor's mansion. Those in the group will notice that Arashi is back with Revi, but he has grown remarkably and is as big as a small horse (large). Also, Revi is no longer wearing her mithral half-plate armor and is now sporting a suit of full plate Steelgrass armor, thanks to her recent visit to Memmima.
Once at the mayor's mansion, Revi takes the offered Mimosa and downs the entire glass in one pull. "Wow! That's some good stuff! I've heard of this elusive elixir before, but I've never had one until now." Revi immediately get's another one and downs it as quickly as the first. Her third glass she slows down on as she listens to the mayor and subsequent questions from her comrades. "I concur with my comrades, it's either someone trying to discredit you or someone close to you trying to stir up sympathy for you to help in the election. Some conspiracy theorists might even say it's you yourself that started these fires for just that purpose." Sense Motive:19 to determine his response to Revi's indirect accusation
Edmund d20+15=18 ; Friday April 2nd, 2010 7:12:52 PM
Edmund turns up his nose at the sweet meats, never having liked them very much. Once they reach the Mayor's manse, he finds that the fare there is much more to his taste, and accepts with much profusion of gratitude the offer of a mimosa, fruit, and cheese--carefully and slowly eating a little of both so as to seem neither boorish nor reluctant.
Edmund becomes visibly annoyed as the other members of the Order varyingly insinuate, insult, or behave discourteously to the mayor. Always a bit of a paper-pusher with politicians in the family, and being something of an officious snot himself, Edmund immediately forms an affinity with the mayor, and does his level best to make up for the outrageous behaviour of his fellows. Nevertheless, in such company, there is only so much he can do (Diplomacy=18)
"Far be it for me to mince words," Edmund begins, "but lest it accidentally seem otherwise, we are always eager to serve the city and its government in a right cause--and, of course, its elected representatives as well." Warming to his task, Edmund continues with a flourish, "The danger of these magic-using arsonists certainly extends beyond mischievous fire-starting. Surely, there is more at stake than that."
"Perhaps appointing one of us to assist you in this matter--publicly," Edmund says, smiling as he continues. "I think, with my unique position, we might do much together to put the citizenry at ease, and to solidify your chances of maintaining order." The wizard adds this last bit meaningfully. "Moreover, giving us access to all the information as quickly as it comes in will help us to help you."
Edmund smiles as he helps himself to another strawberry. Schmoozing with politicians, nobles, and clergy has always been one of his favourite things to do, and today is shaping up wonderfully in that regard. "If there's anything the Order or I can help you with, you have only to ask."
Wynum Friday April 2nd, 2010 8:26:08 PM
While walking toward the mansion, Wynum questions Ed once more. "You know this city. Is there a dragon group which would wear purple? I just... wonder".
He winces at the pie and waves it off. "I don't eat dead animals stuffed into pastry.", giving Revi a dubious stare as she wolfs down the piece, before adressing Arashi:
"My, you've grown Arashi. I hope you didn't eat someone I knew. By the way, I wonder where's Julian?"
Pacing up, catches up with Arm. "Arm... I think we'd need your talents again. Have you noticed the change in the citizens? I feared Lynom's mission was a way to stain our name, but maybe it's this arson story instead. When you have a chance, could you check on with your contacts about this? Maybe catch a rumor or two?"
--- At the Manor, he turns down the beverage and merely stays quiet for now, not wanting to add to the discussion.
A little advice please/DM Buzz Friday April 2nd, 2010 10:53:00 PM
DM post tomorrow.
Zephyr Saturday April 3rd, 2010 1:58:11 PM
Following a fitful night where Zephyr cleans her gear and herself of soot and the smell of smoke, she rises early, and after a warming exercise in the gardens, she joins the others to break fast with them. She thanks Thar again for his kind offer of a room last night, and if no one objects, will follow along with the rest of the order when the summons arrives to meet with the mayor. She has nothing directly to add, seeming content to watch how the other will address this situation...
A little advice please/DM Buzz Sunday April 4th, 2010 9:41:01 AM
Happy Easter everyone!!!
I am going over your new module and I have to say, it looks good! I am going to take another day so that I can get it straight and lead you through an amazing adventure.
DM post tomorrow.
Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Monday April 5th, 2010 4:44:07 AM
Rewind: Arm nods grimly at Wynum's statement, "Aye, that I have. It seems we've become both famous and infamous at the same time. I had a bad feeling about Lynom and his filthy half-orc associate from the getgo. Well, there's nothing we can do about it at the moment, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open to see if I can pick up anything.".
Not a hard decision/DM Buzz Monday April 5th, 2010 9:34:42 PM
The Lord Mayor answers some questions, "No paper work or duties out of the ordinary. Lots of people don't like me, but that is politics, nothing personal. No threats either."
The Lord Mayor of this city, the sturdy and honorable Sturtevant slowly sits in a chair and relaxes. "As I see it, if the Mithril Order became involved on either side, I am suspect. On one side, If I placed you to protect my honorable opponent Caal who has worked for my administration and did a fine job. People would suspect I sent you to spy upon him. I would never do such a thing of course and I can't imagine he would be behind these antics. On the other, if I hired you to investigate what is happening...: he looks down and away, making the comment in regard to those that wanted monetary compensation, "then people would likely feed you anything they think you would want to hear for a drink or a story." He takes a drink from his glass and nibbles on the tip of his fruit, "No, I have decided to pay you to go on vacation." With that, two large men come out dressed like laborers. Between them being held by each is a medium sized chest with the dimensions of 2X2X3. Lord Mayor Sturtevant pulls from a pocket a key. He unlocks the chest and tosses the key to the nearest person, Highlight to display spoiler: {(whomever posts first. :)} then opens it up to reveal many silver and gold pieces. "This is one thousand gold in various denominations. I want you all to go on vacation in my city. I want you to attend every bar from expensive to poor. I want you to act like you are just having a good time between adventures and heroics. In so doing, I want you to gather some information for me, well, not just for me but if Caal wins, then he will also be using the knowledge you find. I want us to be clear on this! I am not bribing you! The metropolis of Plateau City is bribing you! Discover what is behind these diversions and why they are happening. If I hear of any of you spending a copper of that money in the Catacombs or anywhere else you can't gather the information I am looking for, then I will see to it your taxes are looked over a little more closely in the future. Take it and have fun."
He accentuates his last words by tossing the rest of the strawberry in his mouth, with the little green leaves on the bottom and all.
Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Tuesday April 6th, 2010 5:50:40 AM
Arm deftly plucks the key out of the air, then says, "You'll understand if we need to discuss this in private first?". He then urgently motions the rest together and speaks in hushed tones, "I don't like this...not one bit. Something is awry here, and we need to find out what!".
Thar Tuesday April 6th, 2010 8:57:14 AM
Thar nods at the mayor's comments and remains silent throughout. Being paid to go drink and carouse is something new to him, and he's not sure about this whole idea... When they can speak privately, he says, "Something is wrong here, though I can't quite figure out what it is either... We might find out more by taking the offer and seeing what happens... We may find out both what the mayor is up to and who is causing the fires..."
Wynum Tuesday April 6th, 2010 11:06:29 AM
Privately, Wynum speaks up, after some thoughtful chin-stroking. "Mmm. Of course this feels strange. But we can certainly accept that mission without feeling wrong. There are no strings attached. We don't even need to spend that money at all. In the meantime, we'll do our inquiry, about... everything." {Gesturing his head towards the mayor's office}.
Edmund Tuesday April 6th, 2010 11:28:36 AM
Edmund listens intently and, when the chest is open, he sniffs a bit, clearly a bit irritated by the pitiful amount on display.
"Only a thousand gold," he says with raised eyebrows. "I should think the Mithril Order significantly more difficult to bribe than with a small box which wouldn't even buy my magical services for an afternoon, let alone the entire Order for an indefinite length of time. Nevertheless..."
Edmund takes the chance to speak privately with the others. "Don't get involved. Yes, we could take the money and not spend it, but I think it far better simply to not take it and to cover our costs ourselves. We'll be in quite the position to expect remuneration when we've solved these problems--but the moment we accept a single farthing from this tight-fisted old bird is the moment we're beholden to him in legal point of fact. Moreover, he can then say he is funding us--or worse yet, could use the money he has given us to some nefarious end. No, reject it out right. He can keep his miniscule donation and we can look into things without his assistance. Payment will be expected when we've solved the matter, not before--and it should be significantly more than this."
"Moreover," Edmund adds, "There's something not quite straight about this fellow, and I think we're liable to get better information if people think we are not in his employ."
Revi AC15/13T/15FF HP 90/90 *BARKSKIN* -- Arashi AC19/11T/17FF HP 46/46 *BARKSKIN* Tuesday April 6th, 2010 12:06:42 PM
In private Revi speaks up,"It's a bribe, whatever he may want to call it--lipstick on a pig doesn't hide the fact it's still a pig. I for one don't care to be used in such a manner. I think we should decline and see what the good mayor does after that. It's not like we're hurting for money, nor do we mean to take sides in this political debate, do we?"
DM clarification/DM Buzz Tuesday April 6th, 2010 3:08:29 PM
Highlight to display spoiler: {Hi gang, I would just like to clear a couple of things up before you go thinking the mayor is a scum bag. First I would like to point out that I did not have access to who the mayor was before I saw the module, so I misplayed his character to start with. Second, I strongly suggest you all start using your Sense Motive skills now, or designate one person to "do the talking" while everyone else aids that character. If you go on your own assumptions without any skill guidance, you will go astray and get frustrated later when everything you assumed is wrong. Just a suggestion, but I have seen it happen before. :) }
Revi AC15/13T/15FF HP 90/90 *BARKSKIN* -- Arashi AC19/11T/17FF HP 46/46 *BARKSKIN* Tuesday April 6th, 2010 5:21:28 PM
ooc: Revi made a sense motive(19) on April 2, never got a reply :)
DM Buzz: Yes you did and I am sorry. I really didn't count that because that was something before I had the module and knew what is going on. I will take it though, my next question is, will anyone aid Revi?
Zephyr Tuesday April 6th, 2010 5:49:08 PM
Zephyr watches to see what the others do. This is more along the lines of her test of the Mithril Order. Are they mercenaries and spies for hire? She knows she would not get involved in something like this, as it raises all sorts of questions that aren't getting answered, much less the moral issues involved. She waits to see where the Order is going with this situation...
Thar d20+6=23 ; Tuesday April 6th, 2010 7:39:56 PM
Thar will help Revi out with sensing the mayor's motive in all this ... (Sense Motive = 23)
Just a hunch/DM Buzz Tuesday April 6th, 2010 10:49:03 PM
The group is leery to trust a politician and with good reason, considering they have their own interests at heart it seems. But the Lord mayor seems sincere. He really does want to help the city and find out who is behind the fires. Not just that, but he has likely paid for the bribe out of his own pocket, since trying to cover up such a large loss in the treasury would be illeagal and foolhardy.
Some may think of one thousand gold as a small amount, but considering, a person could get blue blind paralytic drunk in this town on five or ten gold, the thousand should last the group quite some time if they just spend it on food, booze and an occassional drink for someone that might know something.
The mayor just patiently waits for the group to come to a unanimous decision.
Wynum Tuesday April 6th, 2010 10:58:43 PM
"If it's a bribe, he was quite unclear on his orders. It is, after all, in his interest to clear out what's happening anyways. And if he was the initiator, he would have tried to bribe us more clearly out of this. But anyways, merely conferring secretly has harmed trust. So why not do as Ed suggest, but wrap it more nicely, telling him we're going to get into this by our own, as is our duty? And for good... we already began investigating by our own, so that part of his plan is moot. I did not intend to let that go without some probing anyways."
Revi AC15/13T/15FF HP 90/90 *BARKSKIN* -- Arashi AC19/11T/17FF HP 46/46 *BARKSKIN* Wednesday April 7th, 2010 4:20:46 AM
"Well, if we proceed with this, then let us take the gold," Revi holds up her finger though, "but we need to make it clear that what information we find, good or bad for our mayor, will be acted upon by us as we see fit. Agreed?"
Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Wednesday April 7th, 2010 4:47:04 AM
Arm agrees with Revi's comment, "Yes, that is something that we cannot afford to overlook. It seems that we've already built up a bad reputation with some in the City, and the last thing we need is to be connected with crooked politics. That shall definitely be one of our conditions of acceptance.".
Zephyr Wednesday April 7th, 2010 7:48:58 AM
Zephyr looks to the others. She has had no clear indication one way or the other that she's been accepted into the group, but she hazards a comment. "How about you do the work but don't take the money? That way you won't look like you've been bribed and we still get to find out what the mayor wants as far as information."
Thar Wednesday April 7th, 2010 10:04:14 AM
After pondering their options, Thar says, "I think we should take the gold, and Ruby has a good point regarding how we act upon it. I must disagree with Zephyr, since a thousand is a lot of money either way and we don't have those funds just sitting around. So let's give him our conditions, and accept his offer... That's my take..."
Edmund Wednesday April 7th, 2010 11:20:11 AM
Edmund continues to discuss quietly with the rest of the order.
"Three for leaving the gold: myself, Wynum, and Zephyr--and three for taking it: Revi, Arm, and Thar. Well, that means it's up to Ruby--er... where is Ruby? Well, I suppose that means--as leader of the Mithril Order, Archmage, et cetera, et cetera, I'll break the tie. We'll leave the money."
"That said," Edmund continues, "I am fully aware that a thousand gold is enough to buy more than a few pints of bitter, and some have more need of it than I do, so if anyone is short on funds, I'll pay for their share of the drinks and what-have-you myself, no hesitation. I doubt it will come to a thousand gold if we are intelligent about whom we patronise, anyway, but if so, then so. No need to throw gold pieces at every drunkard. That will just make people incredibly suspicious. Better to be choosy, to avoid raising suspicions, and certainly not to become indebted to this fellow through the accepting of a bribe."
"The reality is that we should be doing this because it is the right thing to do, political figures notwithstanding," Edmund concludes. "I don't want to be beholden to him for something we should be doing anyway. This is our city, and it is in our interest to protect it. It is also in our interest to stay out of political squabbles, lest we be seen to be taking sides. That cannot avail us in the long-term. Being associated with political parties will only make it harder for us to be seen by the people as non-partisan and objective defenders of right."
((OOC: Edmund has quite a bit more than a thousand gold to hand (having not had time to do a catacombs run and learn new spells in a long time) and can easily afford to pay the entire balance, let alone anyone's individual share.
DM Buzz, when you intend to give the Order several weeks downtime, could you let us know? Edmund's spell purchases and scribing cannot be done in one or two days because of the amount of in-game time it requires.))
Vacation/DM Buzz Wednesday April 7th, 2010 11:24:36 AM
OOC: Consider yourselves on vacation! The mayor was trying to get you to go on one anyway. If you just so happen to learn something while relaxing, well... What a bonus!
Revi AC15/13T/15FF HP 90/90 *BARKSKIN* -- Arashi AC19/11T/17FF HP 46/46 *BARKSKIN* Wednesday April 7th, 2010 11:55:03 AM
"Woah, hold on there chief," Revi says to Edmund, "Ruby can speak for herself and who made you the leader?"
Wynum Wednesday April 7th, 2010 12:41:49 PM
{I think Shawn was merely trying to speed up things, using Ed's over-autoritarian style. Indeed we could spend a solid week arguing about 1000gp and political involvment and I'm not sure this is worth it... However, come to think of it. Ever since the "rest incident" we had this issue with leadership/decision making. What would you all think if we set up a rotating decision-breaking leader system? E.g. one of us is randomly selected for the duration of a month or one module to take on the roll of "Decision breaker": he listens to a round of arguments and ideas from everyone then takes the decision and everyone abides?}
Edmund Wednesday April 7th, 2010 2:06:34 PM
((OOC: Wynum's player is correct. There's a tie, and rather than get stuck here for a week arguing about how to break it, I'd rather have Ed chip in the 1K gp himself and we can get on with the game.
Ed 'appointed' himself leader a long time ago, and has made representations in that way at every opportunity. Incidentally, you'll notice that his 'style' of leadership is to let everyone do whatever they want anyway, and then to try and take credit for everything after the fact.
As for rotating leadership/decision making. I'm all for it, but Edmund won't like that one bit, and he'll put up a bit of a fuss if someone tries to take his imaginary Leader of the Mithril Order role away from him.
As for Ruby, there hasn't been a post from her in more than two weeks, and she is not at the manor, so it seems unlikely that she can speak for herself.))
A graceful exit/DM Buzz Wednesday April 7th, 2010 11:58:15 PM
The group has some indecision on the matter of taking or leaving the amount of money the Lord mayor has offered.
"Ladies and gentlemen. It doesn't take a listen check to hear there are some concerns, so to ease your mind, do us all a favor, will you? Take the gold. If you spend it, great, if you choose not to, take it to the local orphanage and donate it from a anonymous source. I have things to attend to myself and I wish you all well. Feel free to help yourself to the refreshments available and have a wonderful day."
With that, he leaves the butler to attend to your needs and the open chest full of Plateau City denominations patiently wait for you.
Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Thursday April 8th, 2010 5:25:55 AM
Arm smiles broadly at Revi's comment, grateful for once that he's not the one to butt heads with Ed...at least for now. Nodding at the mayor, he says "Please don't let us keep you from your duties, and we'll be sure to inform you of our decision.".
After he takes his leave, he speaks to the rest of the group, "I think the donation idea is a very good one. However, I'm still a bit suspicious,,,this is the second time in a row that we've been tasked with something and not been justly compensated for doing so....".
OOC: WOW, Buzz...using an OOC comment (listen check) in an NPC's conversation...lol! Arm has quite a bit more than 1k gold himself, so the amount isn't an issue. Also, my condolences to Thar on his "loss" of Ruby...
Thar Thursday April 8th, 2010 10:19:23 AM (OOC - I'm not a fan of rotating leadership. After all, not everyone is meant to be a leader, and our PC's don't necessarily have the skills or desire to be someone who leads. That is Thar in a nutshell, as he's here more to be a moral compass and healer for the party, helping when needed, but standing in the background and allowing others to shine. I'm quite content with Edmund leading us and I enjoy reading his humorous and creative posts...)
(OOC2 ... Yes, ... I miss my Ruby... So I'll have to put that romance on hold... Thar's poor broken heart.... Oh the pain of it all.... I wonder if she'll return the engagement ring that Thar gave her... It was only several thousand gp...)
Thar nods his head at the Mayor's offer, and says to his companions, "Yes, if we don't spend it all, there are many orphanages that could use the funds... Let's get moving on this and keep searching for those arsonists..."
Wynum Thursday April 8th, 2010 10:25:51 AM
"Yes. But which orphanage? I think we should discuss this." {Just joking, eh?}
"Well. Here we have a duty, I see. With the support of the Mayor, no less. So let's get to it, shall we. Oh, and we should not forget we have still to meet with councilman Lynom very soon this morning. Ah, helping orphans, rescuing a city, chatting with people in charge. A normal day in the life of the Order. Let's go?"
{If I'm correct, we were to meet with Lynom directly at his place. I don't know, though, if there's something to play out or if we just hand over the booty to him. Otherwise, Wynum too has long-term crafting to do.}
Edmund Thursday April 8th, 2010 10:52:07 AM
((If our DM is merciful, perhaps the ring could be recovered! Just a suggestion . . . ))
"Ah! Councilman Lynom!" Edmund had just been thinking of finishing up that previous task. "Let's go see him and drop off his crest. Might as well finish one almost-thankless task before we begin another almost-thankless task."
"As for the gold," Edmund says, eyeing the box. "Leave it or take it. But if we take it, Thar should give it to the most needy orphans in the city, and he should say that the money came from the mayor and not from us. A thousand gold for our services, indeed! We seem to be selling ourselves cheaply of late, when we shouldn't be selling ourselves at all. It's one thing to get in his good books to get some information and assistance, and quite another to be a willing pawn in his political stratagem."
Edmund looks a little flustered. He remembers yesterday that they were busily engaged is rescuing people from a burning building--women and children, no less.
"I mean, dash it all, he seems more interested in the effect this will have on his election campaign than on what it actually means as a threat to the people of the city. So much for serving the populace!"
That said, Edmund grabs one of the napkins from the tray and wipes his fingers off. "Good strawberries, though. All right. Let's be off!"

If there is no way to hide the chest, then it will have to be carried, but the chest is locked again and either taken or not. The butler shows you all out respectfully and bids you all a good day. Now, the group is off to return a family heirloom that was so dastardly stolen.
The day is a comfortable one. The sun is shining and a cool breeze comes in from the east. The bustle of the street is average for the day and the councilman lives nearby the mayors house. Will the group take the chest, if they have it, back to the manor before they see their employer?

Should the rest decide to donate the gold, Arm will provide assistance if needed to carry it to the orphanage(s). If not, then he will accompany them to Lynom's residence but as in the past, he will remain outside until the crest is turned in.
Zephyr Friday April 9th, 2010 8:21:15 AM
"At least the orphans can make some use out of this." Zephyr contributes. Without much more guidance, and now feeling like she is simply tagging along until the next emergency, she walks with the Order, giving them another day to decide whether or not she will stay with them.

Thar Friday April 9th, 2010 2:48:05 PM
Thar fially grows tired of the discussion and deciding to take the initiative, he steps forward, takes the chest, looking to Arm for help, and begins carrying it back to the manor... That way, they can continue their debate in private without prying ears...
He echoes Arm's reminder that they need to see Lynom too, and report to him...

Wynum Friday April 9th, 2010 6:38:08 PM
Wynum ventures a proposal: "Why not put the gold in one of your magical bags? I don't hae one, though, but I can help out with the carrying."
"So? Who comes to Lynom. I'm coming. Zephyr, feel free to come along. You didn't take part in this mission, but maybe Lynom will give us some other task you could undertake with us. Well, othewise we'll go have a drink? Hum... If you drink, that this. Actually, it's now our duty to do so!"
Edmund Friday April 9th, 2010 7:47:20 PM
Edmund has no intention of drinking at the mayor's expense, and prefers to go see councilman Lynom--after all, Edmund has been the one most interested in helping the councilman since the beginning, and is delighted to finally be able to close that particular task.
"I'm off to see the Councilman. Anyone who isn't going with me should go to gather information and drink up a thousand gold in pints of bitter. Your choice either way. I'm going to pick up the crest and leave directly."
With that, Edmund sets off to the manor on precisely that errand.

The group gathers at Mithril Manor after leaving the High Lord Mayor Sturtevant's residence. The chest is of common quality and weighs around 35 pounds. Not very heavy, just bulky with it's dimensions. The streets are even more crowded as the day is getting on and the people have things to do. Making it back to the manor finds a note, written in a familiar hand.
Hello my friends. I am sorry I could not wait for you to tell you in person, but my cousin Amber is having a bridal shower in a week and my carriage arrived today to take me. I know it was short notice, but a family emergency moved her date up and this is a good time, while everyone is taking a break from saving the Wold for a day or two. I met Beneficia and they have agreed to accompany me on the journey. I'm not sure how long I will be, but you all behave yourselves until I return!
Love Ruby
Nothing seems out of the ordinary. You all heard her in small talk of her cousin and so now is the time for the usual ladies get together. Some might feel slighted at not being invited, but they didn't know Amber anyway, so it is no big loss.
So now, it is time for Lynom, unless someone has something else they want to do?
ooc: All links seem to be working now, thank you. :)

Arm decides to relax for a bit at the Manor while those who wish to go to Lynom's do so. He has no desire to see any more half-orcs, and will await the party's return there.
Thar Tuesday April 13th, 2010 9:37:23 AM
Thar sighs as he sees that he'll be away fromRuby for a while... "I guess the wedding will have to be delayed... At least we've still engaged and that's something..." he murmurs to himself, a bit sad to have to see her go...
To brighten himself up, he relaxes with Arm and waits for the visit to Lymon...
Edmund Tuesday April 13th, 2010 11:48:31 AM
Edmund arrives at the manor, observes the note, and secretly sighs with relief. "No wedding bells anytime soon, thanks be to God," he thinks inwardly, idly wondering why anyone would want to get married in the first place.
One worry dispelled, Edmund immediately sets about dispensing with another. Acquiring the councilman's family crest from the Order's storage room, Edmund tucks it under his cloak and steps into the common room.
"I'm off to deliver our package to the councilman," he says. "Anyone coming with me?"
Once those interested are ready, Edmund sets out for Lynom's residence and, upon arriving, rings the bell (or uses the knocker, or whatever method is available), and awaits a response.

The group is doing very little to make welcome the female monk that would like to join their group. She has showed determination though as she has helped with the fires and has explained in a manner, a lawful good aspect of how to deal with politicians. If there isn't a little courtesy and common manners shown to someone that is more then capable of being a hero, like the others, they may very well miss a great opportunity at making their unit stronger.
They make it to Lynoms house and they are greeted by a servant that answers the door in an emotionless manner. The tall, thin man with balding dark hair invite you into the waiting room, where he asks you all for your burdensome garments like cloaks or backpacks, two handed swords or what have you.
Refreshments are introduced and after but a couple of sips, the councilman enters the room with a smile, "Good morning my fine friends!" He smiles and extends his hands to each, "I do so hope you have good news for me?"
Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Wednesday April 14th, 2010 5:18:46 AM
Arm waves Zephyr over and bids the monk to join Thar and himself in a nearby chair. He then apologizes for her recent treatment, mentioning that events regarding the Order have been chaotic recently, and that is putting it mildly. He then fills her in on some of their backgrounds and past adventures, and asks her if she has any more questions.
Edmund d20+15=18 ; Wednesday April 14th, 2010 11:41:04 AM
Edmund seems delighted to see Councilman Lynom, and bows with a tremendous flourish when he enters the room. When a hand is proffered, Edmund takes it and shakes it gladly.
"Your honour, we bring good tidings. A bit dusty, a bit banged about, but otherwise in good order..."
At this, Edmund produces the crest from beneath his cloak, and extends it to the councilman with a smile.
"We had quite a trial to get it. Some several dozen bugbears, with a contingent of spiders and two spider-people, too. I apologise for the length of the delay, but the entire ordeal was fairly lengthy, and no sooner did we return home than we had to deal with the fires in the city. But, all's well that end's well, or so it is said. Most of the cartage crew made it out alive, and your crest is returned to your family!"
Edmund pauses before adding, meaningfully, "It is useful, is it not, to have people on whom one can count for services and assistance? The Mithril Order, too, realises this, Councilman Lynom. The time may come when even we require aid. It is good to know that we have your friendship, as a respected and revered member of the city's establishment."
With that, Edmund smiles warmly and genuinely, awaiting the Councilman's response.
(Diplomacy=18 if needed)
Thar d20+6=17 ; Wednesday April 14th, 2010 12:11:54 PM
Thar joins Arm in trying to make Zephyr feel welcomed, and supports Arm's apology, saying "Yes, things have been very hectic and now my fiancee has had to leave town unexpectedly. I apologize for my impoliteness, as I'm usually much more polite." He asks her about her home, background, if she has a church, etc., and shares with her some of the order's history and background too...
At the Councilman's, Thar remains in the back and doesn't say much, knowing that Edmund is quite the diplomat... He watches the councilman's responses though, not sure if he entirely trusts the man... (Sense Motive - 17)

At Lynom's place, Having had bad feelings about this mission, Wynum eyes the councilman suspiciously as he reacts to Ed's details and news. Something is wrong! But what?
{Aid sense motive: zero. Huh.}
Friendship/DM Buzz Thursday April 15th, 2010 12:48:28 AM
Back at the manor Arm and Thar comfort the female monk and explain their past and hopes for the future.
Overjoyed! The councilman admires the heirloom, ensuring it is what it appears, no worse for wear. "I would like to thank you all very much for this recovery. I know it does not appear much, but to my family, it is priceless." He hands the item off to the butler, which holds a silver platter for him to rest it upon, then leaves the room with the councilman behind.
He listens to Edmund with a curious expression on his face and Thar, even with assistance from Wynum, can not gain a hunch on what the man is thinking.
"Well, everyone needs friends, but in this business, one must be very careful who their friends are." He joins those present and takes a sip of wine. "If you are wanting my friendship instead of a reward, I can say I accept, but only under certain conditions. The first most always be, I will never break the laws of this city for you, now or when I retire. In fact, if I ever hear of you doing wrong in this city, I will completely disown all interests in you. That would be of course after I hired a priest to determine if you are guilty of some such hypothetical scenario. The second condition is, I will never use the cities resources to "aid" my friends. I will however go to no ends to make sure those I say I love are cared for and without need."
He delights in the taste of the red liquid as it flows down his throat, emptying the glass. he picks up the carafe and refills or tops off those in the room with him, before refilling his glass. "So, if we are in agreement, I think our friendship will see this city through good times and bad as a long term friendships always do."
Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Thursday April 15th, 2010 5:27:34 AM

Edmund d20+2=14 ; Thursday April 15th, 2010 12:00:44 PM
Edmund seems delighted with the councilman's response.
"Your honour, we would expect nothing less. The defence of this city, its laws, and its populace are our goals as much as they are your own. Perhaps you have heard of the recent fires that were set in a coordinated attack? We are, even now, trying to discover the motive behind the assault. Have you heard anything of interest; have any of your constituents mentioned unusual sights to you?"
Edmund considers enquiring as to the mayor, as well, but decides to wait until he hears what the councilman has to say about the attacks first.

Zephyr thanks both Arm and Thar in making her feel more welcome. "Thank you. I think I had other ideas of just what the Order was, forgetting that you are your own persons, with your own personalities, just like everyone else. I would be happy to lend you my skills where they are needed while I see just how we can fit together."
She spends the time telling them about herself and her adventures, on her months of travel from the south to the city. When they leave en masse to the councilman, she will abstain from the wine, but will enjoy the fruit juice. She will then find a quiet time inquire from the two of them just who the councilman is and what their relationship to him is...
Thar Thursday April 15th, 2010 5:00:59 PM
Thar just can't seem to get a good read on the councilman, and wonders if his friendship is really that valuable. He doesn't see much of an advantage in being the man's friend, and giving up a reward doesn't' seem like such a good idea now...
As he ponders this, he becomes frustrated with yet another politician and has to force himself to remain silent. He keeps his countenance even, and lets Edmund run the conversation. He knows that if he speaks up, he may say something that would harm the party's relationship with the man, and he wants to avoid that ....
Wynum d20+4=21 ; Thursday April 15th, 2010 5:03:50 PM

Reward instead?/DM Buzz Friday April 16th, 2010 8:01:45 PM
Very well the day has been, compared to the night before. At the mention of the fires, of course, the mood changes. "What foul treachery could it be?" Perhaps it is just some upstart street thugs trying to claim some territory. However, they went afoul when they proclaimed the city an enemy. They didn't just attack Sturtevant, but the residence all Lord Mayors have resided in. No, this was not a bunch of vandals and not someone who loves Plateau City like either candidate. Of course, I speculate. I have no reason to believe any other way until there is evidence to the contrary. For the sake of good shadows, if I were that paranoid, I couldn't accomplish a days work."
He notices some are quiet and asks very plainly. "Are there some here that would prefer a reward to friendship? I for one will not have it said I did not pay off any obligations and I completely understand, some find the voice and weight of someone in a different society far less worthy then coin to buy what is needed. I am in your debt, not the other way around." Revi and Thar realize, he is looking directly at them, engaging the two in conversation.
Edmund still has a bit of doubt about the councilman with good reason. Politicians are like rogues, their on your side until their behind you, doing things, that you really don't enjoy. He has no reason to suspect Lynom of deceit and there is no way to tell at this time, how far the councilman is willing or able to go, until his aid is needed anyway.
Thar tries to get a read on the Councilman as well. If only, he in some way could have aided The self appointed leader, they would have succeeded on knowing a bit more about the man. Let us hope, on this occasion, it does not cost the party in the long run. Highlight to display spoiler: { I just wanted to point out, your aid would have given Edmund +2 to his 18 and that would have been a successful "Hunch". Zephyr enjoys the company of her new companions. Her tales are bold, but humble. She watches the dynamics of the group and comes to her own conclusions. She still seems to have enough information to want to continue to travel with them, it seems, which is a very good thing.
Arm thinks of the story of the monk and barbarian druid and how the two have very much in common. Ironic how societies so different can be so alike as well. Then, his mind turns to another story, where Marie is the leading lady. Highlight to display spoiler: { Assuming the group is aware of Revi's past. If not, please disregard her involvement. :)}
Wynum wanders around with an experienced eye. The door to the library is open across the hall and in the middle of the room is a billiards table. The vaulted ceiling extends about twenty feet high, where two large chandeliers seem to give of some small flames, illuminating the room, sparkling off the many reflections of fine glass that ornament their wrought iron frame. Each is attached to a rope running up through an eye bolt in the main beam, then down to a wench just right and left of the entry. On the other side of the thirty foot long, twenty five foot wide chamber, over a mantled fireplace is a beautiful carving of a well built, muscular man. He wears a short sleeved tunic with long pants and hard boots. In both hands, he seems to wield a two handed gavel. What is most noticeable is however, he has no face. So yes, gold or magic is my preferred means of reward." Sense Motive 18
Thar Saturday April 17th, 2010 1:02:04 PM
Thar looks back at the councilman with an even expression and refuses to be drawn into a confrontation. He responds in a similar way to Revi and says, "Yes, as my friend said, I'd prefer gold or magic as my reward. I mean no offense to you by this, and don't want you as an enemy. But as she noted, the friends I need would watch my back when all else has failed and things are dire. That said, I am more than willing to be of service in the future to you or the members of this community, so feel free to call when things arise..."
"Back to our current situation, is there anything else you can tell us about the fires and what you maybe have heard? I don't like to see people's homes burned down for no reason and plan on making the perpetrators pay for their heinous deeds..."
(OOC - I didn't know you could help with sense motive or diplomacy, but I suppose I'll "aid another" Revi with sense motive or (if he does it), Edmund with trying to get a read on the councilman...)

Edmund ponders what the Councilman has said, and adds, "Far be it for me to contradict my associates, but," (and here he shoots Thar and Revi a pointed glance), "we are fully aware of the exigencies placed upon elected officials. Nor do we expect you to violate laws on our behalf. Though, of course, I should think you would be fair should we ever be accused of a crime, and not consider us guilty until we were found to be so--especially seeing as how we have made great strides, at some considerable personal expense and despite many serious dangers, for the security of the city and its populace."
"That said," Edmund continues, "We appreciate your offer of a reward. Though it is not necessary, it may--as you rightly point out--make it clear that you are not using your authority as a means to compel us to assist you with personal matters without pay. We appreciate that, and will put the money to good use in furthering our capacity to defend the city and your constituency."
"Before we depart, I'd like to ask you about the Mayor. We had a meeting with him just this morning. He seems very concerned about the upcoming election and has offered us money to gather information on the recent disturbances that have beset the city. Could you tell us what you know of him, and also, what you know of his major political opponents? Do you think these recent acts could be part of a political ploy to undermine his support--or perhaps an attempt to destabilise the city on the verge of a politically sensitive period, that is, an election?"
As Edmund asks these questions, he also goes over in his own mind what he knows of Plateau City's political parties, and the major players in the upcoming election. He also tries to remember anything he can about the councilman's family, political history, and services to the community.

DM Buzz: Did Arm not go to Councilman Lynoms?
Friends or not friends.../DM Buzz Tuesday April 20th, 2010 1:18:48 AM
Councilman Lynom now shows a bit of scorn, in an amused manner, "Really? You do not have preconditions on your friendships? Are you telling me, if when you first met each other and knew little of one another, if one of you were known to be doing crimes against humanity, and they were found guilty, you wouldn't try to see justice done despite your relationship?"
He stands and claps his hands together to summon his butler and is answered promptly, while Edmund believes it still is not necessary. "So, as I have said before, I am in your debt and only you know what your time and effort is worth. For those that want friendship over money, that is not an issue, I can be friends with some and not others. Being a politician means one has to be flexible."
He seems to have ignored Thar's request for yet more information on the fires. Clearly he has said all he knows. Yet the assistance to Revi can determine, he is sincere enough to want friendship and doesn't seem to be hiding anything that was spoken about recently.
His demeanor relaxes when Wynum asks about something in a different room. Lynom excuses himself from the majority of the group to speak with him. "That was my great grandfathers and you have a good eye. Indeed it is taurwood. It is told that no cheating of dice, cards or any game of skill can occur within the dwelling this statue rests. I think it is likely a falsehood and rumor. No magic has ever been detected on it. Some appraisers call it worthless and some call it invaluable. It is another heirloom I cherish."
He walks back into the other room offering those there the time they need to figure out how much money they are due.

OOC: No, Arm did not go to Lynom's house...he has a very large grudge against orcs and half-orcs, so he avoids them (and their sympathizers) whenever possible. As far as Marie goes, he met her during a recent "casino night"...she is a card dealer. He has not known her for very long, but has taken quite a liking to her. After hearing Lynom's explanation about the statue, Wynum pauses, his gaze hazy, then comes to and laughs heartily, which makes a lot of noise in this quiet, luxurious room: "Now I get it! Ah ah, quite an heirloom! The dragon's tail! To think that... oh well, now, councilman, you're a smart man, and I wager it's not the first time you end up trading up friendship for gold here {pointing to the game room}." Still giggling, the centaur loiters back to the room and is obviously about to leave.

Edmund Tuesday April 20th, 2010 12:42:40 PM
Visibly embarassed by the rude behaviour of some of his companions, Edmund bows profusely to Councilman Lynom.
"I consider friendship a reward more fine than gold; being obtained with greater difficulty, and lost with greater ease--and I am glad your distinguishing eye doesn't see us all in the same light. If you need help in the future, send someone to call upon us. I will personally ensure that the good of the city is served."
With that, Edmund bows again as the councilman exits the room. Turning to the others, he can scarcely contain his irritation.
"Perhaps, next time, I'll handle the diplomatic delegations alone," he says curtly. "Please, alert me when you've satisfied your avarice--as if one chest of gold already were not enough for a morning!"
With that, he turns on his heels and departs in high dudgeon, making his way for the city Library, and not the Manor.

Zephyr is left wondering just what is happening here. With references to crimes against humanity, the additional offers of gold, there is clearly some history she is missing that she isn't aware of, but watches to see the group come away clearly dejected by whatever occurred at the councilman's home. Left to her own devices as the group separates, she heads to the open practice grounds in the park she had bee introduced to on her first day. There, she spends time under the warming sun trying to work out her doubts and misgivings she has about the Mithril Order...

"Sure thing, Eddie." Then under her breath, "When pigs fly." Revi awaits her reward from Lynom.
Wynum Wednesday April 21st, 2010 12:19:41 AM
"Don't say so, Revi, as a matter of fact the hardest part would merely be finding pigs. And convincing him to touch them."
Turning to the puzzled Zephyr as they are outside, he brightens up. "Ah, well, it's fine you're here. I understand that you're in good terms with the cult of Domi. When you have time, would you care to accompany me to his temple? We might have a business there. I'll fill you up on the way. And on that whole Lynom affair. Quite intricate indeed."
Thar Wednesday April 21st, 2010 3:47:27 PM
Thar listens to Edmund's rebuke as they leave the room, and merely shrugs his shoulders. "My friend, I'm very comfortable with you handling diplomatic delegations, but when it comes to accepting vs. rejecting monetary rewards, that should be a group decision. I'm not sure fi this councilman had any intention of valuing our friendship, so it may be for the best. So back to the topic at hand, what's our next step?
He sees Zephyr leave and Wynum speak to her too, and says, "I am sorry this is your first interaction with us, and it's usually not this controversial. It seems to be that we've met someone who maybe we are better off not working with (e.g. the councilman). We're normally united on most things and we are glad you're here with us." If she chooses to go to the park, he joins her and enjoys the outdoors too, finally outside of those stuffy offices...

The money is just what the rudeness seems to be caused by. He's not suggesting that he should get to pick what to do with money, but rather that rude people should stay at home rather than coming along to make his job more difficult.))

Soory guys. Very long week and migration is just around the corner. next week, this will be my only game and posts will improve.
I will try to get out some basic stuff in the morning so you all can go and enjoy the fruits of the town and become friends again.

Zephyr Thursday April 22nd, 2010 7:00:49 AM
Seeing that the centaur is now attempting to be friendly, she decides to give him a chance. "Alright. We can go to the temple. I'd like to get a better idea on just what is going on here."
Wynum Thursday April 22nd, 2010 12:00:40 PM
"I'll try my best", replies the centaur as he trots alongside Zephyr. He seems eager and slightly feverish, speaking rather fast. "So here's the rub. That Lynom, shady character he is, we saved him when he was kidnapped by shapechangers. Then, he gave us a mission, to recover his magical pendant he had - or so he said - arranged to be ferried from his estate out of town. But that caravan got attacked in the Preserve by bugbears on its way. We... we cleaned up that issue, and recovered the pendant, and the caravan crew. The pendant was odd, because it appeared rather... cheaply made. And Lynom had underlined how important it was to never try to identify it! "Things are getting clearer for me now, but I'll need to do a little bit more inquiries before I am certain on that subject and can put my ideas forward. Suffice to say for now that I need to be certain that the caravan really came from the councilman's estate in the Tumblevoid. It might be that the pendant was actually brought from another town instead. "So, first, we need to know more about what the caravan really did. Here we need your help. The crew was magically teleported to the temple of Domi a few days ago for healing while we were cleaning up the bugbear caves. So... would you mind going there, to the temple, and telling the priests that you'd like to know more about this crew, if there was any odd thing, or contact after they were healed, or if they told anything of their mission? It's Ed who brought them back. So just tell them you are in the Order and it should be fine. Hum.... we don't have a patch, or anything, but word of your joining should have begun to spread, with the Inn incident and the fires and all. Meanhwile, I'll go visit the caravan company. What you think?" A testimony to his stamina, he then pauses for breath.
Politics in Plateau CityDM Buzz Thursday April 22nd, 2010 6:30:35 PM
Council Lynom gratefully gives the group five thousand gold pieces in appreciation for your services. "I hope this is ample compensation for your services." Since the group didn't ask for a specific amount, he will remind them of his offer before the events. "In appreciation of your good service I will offer you one thousand more gold each."
As the money is retrieved Lynon answers Edmund, "I have the highest regards for Sturtevant. We have not always agreed, but he is a fair man and is diplomatic enough to be an excellent sounding board for the council. His opponent Caal was in Sturtevant administration. His council was focused on moderation and a need to clean up the poorer areas. Caal worked as a mediator between the council and the Lord Mayor. Sturtevant would often visit the public works buildings, personally auditing various aspects of our public utilities. If one have an argument against him, one had better be prepared with information and resources if his mind will be changed. It has been known to happen however. "
"Caal knows Sturtevant is a more then capable administrator, but the fact is, if he is elected once more, that would be his third term and by law, he would be king. This of course would be ground breaking, The King is right by might and who knows if he would disband the council? Not just that, but he is not married and has no heir."
"Again, I can not speculate on the recent event without facts. If the Lord Mayor has payed you to find out, I believe he has invested the cities funds wisely. Any information you find should be taken first to the head of the militia Highlight to display spoiler: {Who's name is unknown right now} first, then the Lord Mayor. I too would like to know, but I will eventually find out in reports."

"I'll count out the gold, split it evenly per shares if no one objects, and then I have to make a visit to Ben Venu's to pay off an old debt." ooc: so we have 1000gp each(from lynom), plus 1000gp split 7 ways(from mayor), then 5000gp split 6 ways(from Lynom;everyone except Zephyr cause she wasn't there for the bugbears), right? I'll put it on our spreadsheet.

He leaves and follows Revi to the mansion, and accepts his share graciously. He says a prayer of thanksgiving for their wealth, and then says, "Sounds like we should start gathering intel, though I'm still at a loss as to where... Going tavern hopping isn't something they trained us to do in seminary, and I'm a bit out of my league here... Arm, you probably have more experience then I do and would you like to give us some ideas of a place where we can find some information?"

{OOC: Making a bit of a backtrack, here. This takes place when the party leaves Lynom's place. Just trying to do a recap of to-dos and suggestions.}
Wynum looks all excited, even checking notes taken in a large book carried in his bags.
"Ah, so much to do indeed! That day, though busy, is far from finished! "Let's see. Revi, didn't you have contacts with that Memmima character? What came of it? If she's with the mage guild, maybe they had spotted unusual Taur magicians shopping, huh, fire spell components, what's it like, I don't know, magical charcoal? Also, didn't they have issues with shady people, right? And she mentioned the Candidate Speech in the Wealthy Quarter, which is due... today! She was to be there with her stall. That means Sturtevant will be there, and Caal, too. We definitely should have someone there! Why not offer her protection, that would be the perfect excuse?"
"And, hmmm, Thar, could you make the rounds of churches, if you're in good terms? Surely they have ideas about the upcoming election, the cults ought to play a major role in that whole affair. Oh, and I wonder, if you could gather some information about sacrifices. Why would someone want to sacrifice horned horses, of all things? I mean, what for... or for what god?
"Oh well. Here we miss Shadow so much. And Ruby, were is she? Buying gowns while we need her to probe the shady quarters? Ah! A wedding! What a foolish thing, so young she is! {sighs deeply}"
"Edmund, I would not insult you by saying anything more. Obviously, here you are the pivotal element, the fulcrum on which this investigation rests, as it has to do both with Plateau City politics and magics."
"Me, I need the help of our new member to inquire, well {looking over his shoulder at Lynom's} I tell you later."

Edmund is absolutely delighted that someone, finally, appreciates how necessary he is to the success of, well, everything in general.
Holding his head a little higher, Edmund smiles at Wynum. "I am glad you are finally beginning to see the necessity of my prudence and wisdom," he says, somehow without a trace of smarminess. "Would that your keen judge of character were more common!"
On his way to the Library, the wizard considers that his estimation of Wynum has been somewhat too low heretofore. "Perhaps he's not such a bad chap after all," he thinks to himself--before mentally superadding, "especially considering how he is always inebriated."

She gives Wynum a small smile. "I'll go to the Domi temple and speak with the brothers and sisters there. Thank you for giving something to do on behalf of the order. I'll be back shortly." Half a day gone/ DM Buzz Monday April 26th, 2010 9:02:41 PM
The group is having quite a profitable day. The Lord mayor asks them to work for the city, using the oldest method of gathering information in existence, visiting pubs, bars and inns. It is almost noon when the party splits up almost entirely.
Arm has booty on his mind, but it in no way involves a monetary value. He passes by the store where Julian and his new love Selithe. Up some stairs unnoticed. He taps gently on the door to her room. No answer...so he knocks a bit harder...and still no answer. A little bit bummed, he turns to leave only to hear her door open and then he is grabbed by a small hand attached to a slinder, soapy arm. "I thought you would never get here. Care to join me for a bath?" she asks as the door open to reveal a soapy wet body and pretty face.
Zephyr goes to the temple of Domi where she is greeted warmly by an acolyte that asks how he can assist the monk. The place is very typical style, but there are many different branches of the church and as many as three devoted assembly of monks. Please be specific in requests. They heal a lot of people every day, for various reasons. Some pay and some can't
Revi accepts her fair due with respect. She takes charge of the loot situation to make sure everyone gets exactly their fair share. To ask more from a confidant at this time, might not be prudent, but should be a last resort.
Thar wonders at the procedure for getting information. Little does he realize, there are other places to hear excellent rumors besides pubs, bars and inns. The theater for instance.Bards of all types love the arts, perhaps an art opening somewhere? Galleries abound surely? This is no small town country town called "Hicksville"! This is the greatest. No, even that word is not enough. This is the Grandest city in the Wold! If your mind can think of it, from holy to disgusting and everything in between, you will find it here.
Wynum sets up a very large and elaborate mission statement for certain party members and his questions have merit. Unfortunately, with the sudden uprising, it was determined equally and by both parties to postpone the speech but not the election. So,. That word spreads like wild fire through a drought filled forest and is no longer a concern for the heros, at least for now.
Edmund is finally getting the respect and adoration he deserves. Of course, this also means, the group will always have someone to blame when the time comes to point out mistakes, but that is the roll of the leader and it will be a burden that he has yet to even imagine. Still, he likes it in the moment.
Highlight to display spoiler: {Now, the Lord Mayor gave you guys gold to use about tow. It will increase the revenues of the city, which is good, but it will also allow the group to discover what may be amiss. This is a chance for the group and the DM to get aquainted with all the different parts of the city. I just ask, you all stay together. I am very fond of random encounters and a single person may find one as well as an entire group. I play NPC's to the fullest, so please do not think impetuous actions will be rewarded. Now, this does not mean those that want to do personal errands like make scrolls or see girlfriends can't. I just want those that are asking about information to be together. So perhaps you all can aid each other in your skills. Asking questions can be dangerous business. :)}

Once everyone has reconvened back at the Manor, Revi calls a meeting to order. "Noble gentlemen and fair lady--ah geez, now I'm sounding like Eddie. Sigh. Okay guys, we got a little work to do, how about we split up into teams, do this stuff and come back here in a few hours? Some of you have already went about town, namely, Zephyr here. We also need to decide about her. I'm assuming the rest of you have no problem with her, so is she on probation, what? Lets get these things numbered out:
1. Zephyr's indoctrination into the group. 2. Mayor's request for info. 3. Where the heck is Julian? 4. What else?
Lets form a plan and set to it so we're not splitting up singularly--remember whatever that was yesterday that caused the fires, well he/she/it is still about and has probably heard we helped quell the blazes, so it's not good to go by anyone's lonesome, 'kay?"
Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Tuesday April 27th, 2010 5:46:26 AM
Arm smiles broadly at the invitation and eagerly enters Marie's apartment for a "bath". Once his visit is over, he returns to the Manor, though it may not be in time to join Revi's discussion.
Thar Tuesday April 27th, 2010 9:53:18 AM
Thar listens attentively to Revi's declaration, and nods at her ideas. When it's his chance to talk, he says, "Those sound like good plans to me. In order of your points:
1. The best way to see Zephyr in action is to give her more of an opportunity to work with us, either in the information gathering or in combat. Let's keep her involved and see how she does. 2. We shouldn't break up into too small of a teams, maybe just 2 total? Some of us can check out the less seedy parts of town, maybe the churches, mage guilds, law enforcement HQ's, general stores, etc. and find out info that way. The others can check out the taverns, bars, etc.
Again, those are just my thoughts..."
Revi AC24/14T/24FF HP 90/90 -- Arashi AC19/11T/17FF HP 46/46 Tuesday April 27th, 2010 1:10:19 PM "Aye, and very good thoughts too, Thar." Revi then continued, "Two groups sounds good... one the more seedy areas as Thar has recommended and then one group for the more civilized areas. Now, I don't expecting us working all day at this, these things take time--maybe just a couple hours a night. Whatcha think guys, Zephyr?"

Arriving at the Library, Edmund gets to work looking up spells and researching new, arcane methods for assisting the Order. All the while, he scratches notes on a piece of parchment. "Time to put some of this new learning to good use," he thinks to himself.

Zephyr fills in the brother's with the description of the group that was magically teleported into their temple by the Order's arcanist, Edward. She will hope that the specific means of entry and the fact it was recent will jog their memory. "Specifically," she asks, "was there anything about them, outside of their condition, that seemed...out of the ordinary to you? Did they mention anything about where they might be going next? We need to ask some questions of them, but we can't seem to find them."

A new arrival / DM Buzz Thursday April 29th, 2010 2:09:48 AM
Mithril Manor is the home of hero's. The group has many diverse and powerful performers on the stage with all the other citizens of Plateau City. A large and complex play where characters must mingle with the plot to come to conclusions.
Still, there are things to be done and people to see. Their lives are not the millrind of the city though. They are individuals with their own goals and time must be spent doing other things.
The group is just about to go and do their business when a knock comes at the door. When it is opened, there stands a small female gnome.
Everyone please describe yourselves to Trixy and she will do so in turn. Highlight to display spoiler: {Ken, you are on.. :)}
ooc: In regard to your past, I have to say guys, I am still in the dark on things. I had hoped to use the time this last month of the migration to look at your past, but I had to make posts instead and I wasn't able to do my home work.
I'm not asking you to forget your past. The information you are asking about, I am not aware of as a DM, like the two guys at the temple. I don't know who they are, so I can't tell you if they are pertinent to the next module. I will get you the information in the following weeks though, while you spend some time drinking or going to the theater.
Arm[HP 44/44 AC 24] Thursday April 29th, 2010 5:23:25 AM
Upon opening the door, Arm at first thinks it is a prank, but then looks down and notices the gnome. The tall, handsome bard brushes a wayward lock of hair behind one of his pointed ears (one of the few features that betrays his half-elven heritage) and says, "Greetings, may we help you with something?".
Trixy 46/46 Thursday April 29th, 2010 1:09:51 PM
Trixie looks up at Arm and smiles, then sticks out her small hand.
"I'm Trixie! Pleased ta' meetcha! And I mean it too! I might not have meant it as much if you were just tall or just well built, but your awfully handsome too and that's great! Especially if we spend lots of time together! "
She pauses to catch her breath, then cocks her head sideways, her pink pigtails bouncing.
"Sooo.. where's the rest of you? I heard lots about the Order. You're all making a name for yourselves, and well, I figured joining would be fun! I'm pretty useful, I think, although admittedly not as powerful as the members of the infamous order..."
She takes another deep breath..
"There is of course the fearsome leader Edmund. My friend Shootooticktock tells me of course he isn't the real Edmund, but it's possible he's just hiding in plain sight. I would certainly like to see him cast a wish spell to tie his shoes! He breathes fire, eat's dragon wyrmlings for snack time, and can change his gender at will, from what I hear. I'm a bit of a mage myself, though my time in the woods talking to the animals and everything means I'm not as far along as Dad expects me to be."
She's about as tall as can be expected for a gnome, with pink hair split into two bobbing pigtails. Her robes are of nice quality, and a small scimitar is tucked into her belt. A weasel scurries off her shoulder and down her legs, running in circles on, under, and over a very agitated looking eagle, which watches Arm cautiously, it's talons clicking up and down on the ground as the weasel pushes his patience.
"Anyways! I came to join! Did I say that? You should probably take me along. How else will I learn about adventuring? I killed a Green Dragon once, on my own. I killed lotsa things, but they were only illusions. The Guild makes them a lot to train us. They say dipelling an illusion of a Dragon isnt the same as killing one, but I think they might be wrong. What if ALL dragons are just illusions! Creepy!"
Trixy sucks in more air.
"Anyways! I have papers from the Guild, and I think Edmund, if it is THE Edmund, might like to know someone in the Star Mage's Guild. I'm a lifetime member! That's a lot of free spell scribing, if I can convince him to join. Whaddya say? Parters?"
She looks up, her small hand outstretched for a handshake, her smooth face motionless with bright eyes twinkling. She quickly blows a lock of pink hair out of her eyes, then resumes smiling, not moving in fear of offending a member of the Great Mithril Order!

Arm hesitantly takes Trixie's hand and shakes it briefly, in the meantime mentally rolling his eyes at her prolonged dissertation. Feeling out of breath himself, he replies "Well, for one I think you DO have the wrong Edmund, as he most certainly has not done any of the things you mentioned and he is NOT the leader of the Order. You may come in, but not all of the Order is present at the moment. Please have a seat.". As he moves aside to let her in, he thinks that the last thing the Order needs is someone to massage Ed's already over-inflated ego, but puts that aside for the moment.
OOC: I'm foregoing the usual suspicions of her to move things along... :)

"Ach, did you let in another vampire, Arm? Didja at least detect evil on her?" Revi walks to the front of the parlor where Arm and the manor's guest were standing and introduced herself, "I'm Revi and you better not be a vampire because I just had this rug cleaned last week."
ooc: welcome to the game! :)
Trixy 46/46 Friday April 30th, 2010 2:09:07 PM
Trixy happily follows Arm inside the manor. She puts her hands on her hips and looks around the room. She sits where a chair is offered, and kicks her feet over the edge of the chair.
She thinks for a second, obviously in thought ,and replies.
"No, I'm quite certain I am not a vampire. Unless of course, you can be one and not know it, like you could be a lycanthrope and not know it. I knew a lycanthrope when I was living in the monster preserve actually. Cured him, we did, but he was so filled with spitfire than when he went back to find the person who turned him in the first place, he just got bit again and got the disease a second time."
She takes a deep breath, looks Revi up and down, then makes a decision.
"I can assure you I'm no vampire. Your not a werewolf, are you? If you chop me up for asking, then you probably are, so if were keeping it a secret from this pretty human here the cats out of the bag!"
She looks back at the door and clicks her tongue, then speaks a language that none of the others here are likely to understand.

Revi points and yells, "Aha!" then realizes her point would prove her wrong--that vampires can't be druids, she thinks. Trying not to lose the advantage, she grins and whistles, "Arashi, come here." Soon the stomping paws of a swift and large wolf come racing around the corner, down the hallway past the kitchen and dining room, into the parlor. Revi reached over at her shoulder level and patted the back of her large black wolf who was the size of a small horse. She then began to speak inthe same dialect that Trixy just had, Highlight to display spoiler: { "She thinks we might be lycanthropes Arashi, pretty smart this one, but then again, if we were, this whole house would be infected." Druidic to } Turning to look into Arashi's yellow eyes, she asks, "Whatcha think boy? Should we let them stay?" The black wolf returned Revi's query with a slight "worwl", which basically meant, "ehh." Revi gave a slight "Hmpf," in response and asked Trixy, "Say, you know another gnome wizard who's a Star Guild Mage by the name of Memmima?"
A new arrival / DM Buzz Friday April 30th, 2010 4:34:50 PM ooc: I did not get a reply email in reagrd to my question on your information gathering efforts. So, let us start from scratch please. All seven characters are at the Manor and Ruby is still at her cousins baby shower.
Please get to know each other and discuss what would be the best advantage to finding the trouble makers. You have a very good lead. Magic users are involved. Perhaps they used an item?
I will see you all on Monday.
Trixy gets to know a little bit more about the Mithril Order and some hope this small woman does not further instigate the notions of the groups main wizard.
Knowing the same language as others sets some at ease and who can say what this new addition can provide to the group to make it even stronger.
Yikes, two druids in the group. I might have my work cut out for me. :)
Trixy 46/46 Friday April 30th, 2010 6:08:03 PM
Trixy turns pale and sits very still.
Not only might this large muscular teenager be a lycanthrope, but a Druidic one as well! And if she can control her shifting and NOT infect the entire house, then she's a natural lycanthrope, and if she's a natural lycanthrope AND a druid AND very big and strong AND has a sword bigger than she is...
"How Interesting!", Trixy squeals!
She pops off the chair and bounces left and right, dancing about in a circle. Bandit the weasel has seen this dance before, so he hops in, standing on his back legs dancing about in a circle with her while she holds his tiny paws.
Dace, annoyed, stares at Arashi for a brief moment. He tries not to remember that back in the preserve, a creature Trixys size would likely end up lunch for either Dace or Arashi if she weren't careful.
He shifts his feet, squatting down on his perch, closing his big yellow eyes.
At the mention of Memimma Shootooticktock, Trixy stops prancing about and looks back, her eys closed from grinning so hard.
"Of course! How else would I have known about your leader Edmund? Word is he possesses such intelligence he was able to deduce the amount of seconds it would take a villian to digest a handful of bar peanuts after Edmund watched him eat them. He placed a delayed blast fireball in the foul threat's privies which went off exactly after the evil person closed the door and sat down.
Memimma swears that Edmund isn't Edmund, but he might be Edmund! And you might be able to change into a wolf person! Fasciniating! I'm so glad you all let me come along! At this rate I'm bound to have my first adventure really really soon!"
Trixy danced around again with her weasel familiar, and just to get everyone in the mood, cast her racial dancing lights spell, and sent them swirling around Arashi, Revi, and Dace, then up to the ceiling to chase themselves. Finally dizzy, she falls on the floor and looks up at Dace, who is still not amused, and uncomfortable perching on it's chair.
"Um.. <pant> .. is there any... <wheeze> .. where that Dace can perch properly around here? He's big for a bird and that chair <pant><wheeze> is awfully nice and I'd hate for his talons to hurt it."
Edmund Friday April 30th, 2010 9:08:30 PM
((OOC: DM Buzz, I tried to make my answer to your request clear through my last IC posts and the OOC comments hooked to them. Sorry about that. I've already posted on the Catacombs that Edmund is there. Therefore, he will be departing for that place directly in this post.))
Edmund smiles as Trixie praises the amazing nature of the wizard and leader of the Order himself, but then frowns as he listens to all sorts of madness about not being who he is. He swiftly tries to mitigate his frown into something approaching a business-like attitude, seeking to nip this business in the bud immediately.
"What do you mean that I'm not me? As if a shapeshifiting bogeyman would be capable of impersonating my amazing skills in addition to my mere appearance! Ridiculous! And moreover, none of those things happened in that way. Why, it was ten times more daring, more impressive, and more splendid than mere words could ever describe!"
"At any rate, this is the Order, and I am Edmund, the leader, archmage, and wizard extraordinaire--yes, of fame and renown--and I do apologise if I seem not quite as impressive as the tales have given you cause to believe; but you have caught us at a bad time. We've just come out of meetings, and I'm just setting off to another one, to make safe the manor and improve my skills so that my future feats will be even more astounding than those which have gone before."
"The other members of the Order here are the most competent, canny, brave, dashing, strong, intelligent, and savvy adventurers who have ever come together under one roof. They can tell you anything you need to know--including where to put your travelling menagerie. For my part, I must depart forthwith. I believe they are about to visit many of the city's fine eateries, public houses, and inns. You might want to accompany them if you fancy the thought of a free drink or two."
Nodding to them all, Edmund makes a point of heading over to speak to Thar privately before he leaves, whispering to the cleric.
"You can detect evil, yes? Might be best to keep an eye on these new people. I'll be back shortly--picking up some new spells at the Catacombs. I'll be putting up new, permanent protections and wards in the next few days. Before I do that, we need to make certain that we can trust our new arrivals. Once we've given them the passwords and such, it may be difficult to adjust the defences, if you understand."
With that, the wizard whirls around on his heels and, with a flourish, departs for the Catacombs to pick up the spells he ordered that afternoon.
((OOC: The permanency spells will each have an XP cost. Therefore, I am going to try to do as much as I can with as few spells as possible. If there are any specific defences you want, this is your last chance to get them in before Edmund really implements them. Otherwise, I will try to be as efficient as possible, which may not necessarily include any supplemental or extra protection that you might particularly want. E-mail me (my address is spelled out at the top my char. sheet) if you have any questions/requests!))
