Demon and Dragon

Magic monocle/DM Buzz  d20+25=40 ;
Wednesday April 7th, 2010 1:38:09 AM

Before the very eyes of Valanthe, she witnesses the demon take it's true form. Her naked, voluptuous human body carries a horned skull with blazing red eyes and a maw full of teeth. Dark black wings spring from her back as she curses you, "Nothing can save you now. When you are gone, I will feast on this village and find another pawn." The demon is facing down the dark warrior in a toe to toe conflict. No apparent witnesses to the battle so far, just by looking over the shoulder of the fiend and out the door.

Back in the room, no dust swirls on the clean floor, as well, the furniture is recently polished and brushed. Sherentive nods her head with Vauhwyt's words and comforts her a little, "Speak with him when it is daylight out. He is not a night...person."

Kage is miserable. Indeed, he lies on his side next to the platter, legs kicking in a futile attempt to get up. Uel has a feeling of being bloated, for some reason. He rests and listens carefully to the conversation.

The faithful canine Champ is grateful to be led outside by his loving mistress. Finding some place to relieve himself is easy as an alley way as been used by who knows what other creatures. A group of young minotaurs approach Vorelle early in the morning and before they get very close, two guards step out from the door and look down on team of ruffians. With the new witness, they walk around the area. Little do they know, the guardsmen likely saved their life.

Whysper has thoughts of a long successful career as she lounges on the large couch. Content to stay the night. Little does she know, that it will be very soon before others in the room will be reacting to something seen.

Appolo is willing to call it a night early, even this late, saying hello to Sherentiva briefly and asking which room is his.

Being absolutely infuriated at either the antics of the completely chaotic pirate or needing to vent over the fact, someone that was not easy to impress might now be disappointed, Malgant uses sarcasm to get some solid points across, despite the reason they were mentioned.

Aztyr is not confident in her chance of success and would be happy for assistance. The discussion of money comes up with several in the group.

Sherentiva lays out the price, "All we need is a Scrying scroll to locate Val. I doubt we will need to cast spell through it. That is 700 gold pieces. Then, the Greater Teleport scroll, which is necessary for your journey would be 2275 gold pieces. Now, if I help you for free, to go to Valanthe then I would of course have to return back here. I suppose I could bring others back with me when I return." She smiles and winks at the group.

She places the mirror in front of her and pulls the scroll out. Looking at Malgant she asks, "Do you have some memento from her I can use?" She reaches into her pouch and pulls out what appears to be a solid gold monocle rimming a beautifully cut diamond. She reads the scroll and activates the magic from the paper onto the mirror. She knows Val very well and actually knows her signature, so there are quite a few minuses to the warriors saving throw. Also, if Malgant has something of hers, or anyone else like Appolo, then finding her becomes even easier.

Unfortunately, when Val feels the mental intrusion, she will believe it is the demon attacking her instead of friend contacting her, so she will resist. Val, please roll a Will Save and I will tell you the DC for it after we know what it is. :)

ooc: question, to scribe scrolls, is it necessary to specifically purchase scroll materials, or can I scribe them and deduct the amount from my coin on hand? Breaking down the math, 1000gp of scrolls can be made in an 8 hour day, so a 1st lvl scroll can be made in 12 minutes. It would be a good use of time during a conversation like this, when Uel doesn't have much to contribute.

Uel carefully picks Kage up, being sure not to squeeze him uncomfortably and places him gingerly into his spell component pouch so he can sleep off the fantastic feast.

If you are not adverse to spending the rest of the night at Val's location I can return myself and up to four others to the Temple after my morning prayers."

Uel, please take your question to the rules board. They will more accuratly answer your questions on scrolls, without me having to look up all the info you need.

Sherentiva holds off on casting the spell until Malgant says he has contacted her.

Malgant please, when you do something like this, just to save some time, complete your action, like what will you say to Val in the spells message? That way Val could post a reply this post as well.

Valanthe grins at the fiend. This was not an idea situation but things hardly ever were. She had never faced down a fiend before. Her mithril plate armor would make her feel much better. Still the weight of the tower shield and the familiar grip of Gargul's Fist in her hand eased her nerves. Valanthe slid her left foot forward slightly as she shifted her weight. Her heart was pounding. Blood rushing through her veins. It was a glorious feeling. How much the thrill of battle exited her was surprising.

"Fiend I'm going to enjoy bashing you to pieces. The fact that you waited until I was in reverie tells much about your fear. I do thank you for one thing fiend. You've opened my eyes to the fact that beings such as yourself excist outside the cycle. Lord Gargul brought you here for that purpose. Now he wishes me to kill you."

Valanthe springs into action. Exploding off her front foot, Gargul's fist coming in low behind he visual cover of the tower shield. She is aware of the perception that elves aren't strong. That a warhammer is traditionally a dwarven weapon. Valanthe doesn't know how dwarves would judge her skill with a hammer. What she does know is that she weilds it with considerable skill and it's really good at smashing stuff. The sudden mental intrustion from Malgants message does cause her to faulter for a half second. Thankfully her body acts on instinct and quickly recovers. She brings Gargul's Fist in low before quickly reversing the swing and bringing it up high in a sharp backhand.

Umm, a little busy right now/DM Buzz
Thursday April 8th, 2010 12:40:12 AM

Valanthe, is only slightly disturbed at the intrusion by Malgant, but it does not take long before those thoughts pass and she focuses on the creature attempting to steal her soul. Two strikes land hard and the mighty warrior believes her strikes solid and firm, but this is no Woldian plow hand she is fighting. This is a demon! Her blows land causing less then half the damage she expected. No, Val has killed hundreds of undead, with almost a dozen different types, metaphorically notched, on her experienced friend Gargul's Fist.

Now, the demon has some additional leverage as she is no longer small, but medium sized, yet, she chooses a different approch besides attacking, "Don't you realize your ambition is folly? Lord Gargul allows us to exist, just so the good guys have something to keep themselves occupied! I could not be here without Lord Gargul's permission. Your ideas and faith are a falsehood. Join me on the dark side of Gargul. He wants people like us to exist! I will be watching you and waiting for you. You will be my next willing pawn and together, the weaker races will grovel at your feet. YES! You are worthy..."

She licks the fiery blood on her small pale hand, she just a second before pulls away from her pressure wound slashed face. Taking a five foot step away from the powerful warrior she laughs and shouts out once more "Valanthe, you are worthy!" Then as if by whim, she disappears from sight.

Everyone is back in the room, after being relieved in one manner or another. Some are asleep when Malgant gets the return reply and tells the others, more than likely, of their long time friends conflict.

Sherentiva casts the spell (using the last roll) and Valanthe feels the power of another wanting to effect her spirit to locate her. Allowing it, in the mirror is seen, the dark skinned warrior in night clothes wielding her hammer and a tower shield.

Valanthe AC 21 HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Thursday April 8th, 2010 10:30:27 PM

Her fingers squeeze the leather grip. Valanthe stood motionless like a finely crafted statue. She held her breath listening for the subtle sounds of movement. Just because the fiend appeared to leave didn't mean it was actually gone. Once Valanthe was posative it was gone she let out a sigh of relief.

"First lesson in fighting Fiends. They are a whole lot more resilient than they look."

Valanthe knew she wasn't going to get back to reverie tonight. There was no real fight but the anticipation left her blood pumping. She walked over to the armor stand, setting down her shield. She glanced down at the warhammer in her right hand. It was a perfectly crafted weapon. Heavy enchantments were woven into it. Spells specificly harmful to undead. It was very effective against undead. Not so much against Fiends. In the future she was going to have to keep her eye out for something that will work better against Fiends. Especially if one was trying to turn her to its cause. That made her chuckle. A god turned her against her friends. Valanthe learned from that mistake. This fiend was welcome to try.

Valanthe set Gargul' Fist down and removed her silk robe. She took her adventuring clothes out and began to dress. Thicker, more durable cloth to wear under her armor. A bit hot at times but comfortable. Now dressed Valanthe turns and looks at her armor. She takes the helm in both hands and gently places it upon her head. It felt good. It felt right. After a moment she begins to put on the rest of her armor. It was red mithril plate with white trim. A softer touch to the hard fierce image.

Long is the day of a warrior. Defeating an evil necromancer and then having to deal with his hellish sponsor leaves one to believe, rest is yet elusive. Yet, her old team is coming to the rescue as those that Teleport to Valanthe can not all fit in her small quarters, so the group appears outside, just about the same time as everyone else in the small community stirs from the screams and threats. Most men and a few women grab kitchen, hunting or farming tools as they glare at the group, but Valanthe puts them all at ease. The group is happy to meet the friends of their hero, but wonder at the sounds previous to their arrival.

Sherentiva and everyone else can see, the mystical and wondrous armor that she now wears while the dark fighter tells the group she is still needed here, in quiet tones of course. The demon threatened the people of this village, how could she possibly leave them to it? Vauhwyt steps into the shadows and can not see a creature lurking in that realm. Malgant does not detect anything either, even after a perimeter check. Aztyr is eager to blast something that would dare present itself as a target. After a couple of hours of searching, that is when the tall human looking female tells the party, that after you all rendevous, she will return and see to it the village is demon free. "I have some research to perform for a few weeks anyway. Small little villages are a perfect spot. Of course that means, you will need to try to get along with Bardamion. You have to understand, he considers himself above any creature on this planet, except mother of course, until proven otherwise. He enjoys conflict and hasn't been in a battle for quite some time."

Sherentiva asks the Elder of the village if she might vacation in his community for a bit. He stutters and coughs, stunned that someone as powerful as those present would ask his permission on anything. He quickly agrees though and everyone soon goes back to their cottages while the group gathers around and touches the female, high level, arcane caster that brought them all there to begin with.

The away team reappears out in the street and walks in. The group is welcomed and Valanthe is warned on what to expect by the others before she too must reluctantly hand over Gargul's Fist and any other weapon someone may have.

A quick walk through the now dying crowd leaves the group to watch the half orc servants cleaning up, or at least sweeping the floor of glass and other items that found their way on the floor this evening. Two new guards stand at the stairs back up but they allow the group to pass when a pass is produced. The group is now back together and many a tell can be told, but, what if no one goes to sleep before the sun comes up?

Malgant is overjoyed o be reunited with Val. He looks at her new armor rather enviously, noting how it is light but protective, and how well it fits her. She has become quite the front line warrior in the past week. A warrior Malgant looks forward to facing the dangers of the Wold next to. After they return to the Mangled Centaur, Malgant takes turns with the others, relating the tales about the island, the Dread, and the artifact itself. He also listens closely to Val's tale about the Necromancer and his undead creation process and what it did to her when it exploded. He also listens to her tale about the demon and when she mentions that it made her uneasy and unable to continue her reverie he offers to protect her while she rests. If there is still night once the storytelling is ended, Malgant finds a room in the Cloudprance suite and claims it so that he and Val might get some rest before the group is undoubtedly awoken at dawn with the fulfillment of Ringalingling's wishes.

Valanthe AC 32 HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Saturday April 10th, 2010 9:10:03 AM

Valanthe set down Gargul's Fist a little harder than she had to. Valanthe held the grip for a moment giving men a wicked grin. She didn't say anything. She didn't have to. Valanthe knew the type of place they were in. Places like this were dangerous. Even if you knew what you were doing. It was the perfect place they went to relax after getting their butt's handed to them by a Quad or two. In a place like this it was all about appearences. They would believe she was another dark elf. So Valanthe would play up on the image.

"Back in the pirates we'd go to places like this to unwind after battle. I especially loved going into a place for the first time. They laughed when I walked through the door. Back then I was a dainty little thing with white skin and coppery red hair. They laughing stopped when I screamed and started throwing people three times my size around the room like they were children. Those were good times. Apart from the constant threat of death and heartseeding rather sucked though."

As they walk past the guards into the protected back rooms, Valanthe is glad to be out of the main room. She just wasn't in the mood to deal with all the crap that came with this enviorment. There was too much on her mind at the moment. Specificly those people in the village she just left. Valanthe knows they are safe with Sherentiva there and probably would be for some time. Who knows how many years a dragon went of vacation for. Still it feels like she left with a job half done. Valanthe wasn't prepared for the fiend and probably wouldn't have survived the battle but it still felt wrong. Oh well there wasn't much she could do about it. Regrets were the price of the life she led.

OOC: Valanthe is exotic, even for an elf. Her body is more muscular than the typical lithe body of her race. She has the jet black skin of a drow. Her hair is pure gold with red highlights, cut short but still very feminine. The odd coloring is due to a mix of hair colors common to the sun and wood elves. As if to accentuate her extoic appearance Valanthe's left eye is green with gold specs, and her right eye is gold with green specs. Valanthe wears red full plate armor with a matching helm. The armor is well made, fitted for a woman, with white trim around the plate edges. If one stares hard enough at the armor you could almost see right through it. In her left hand is a tower shield. Matching red and white pattern indicate the shield was made as an accompanying piece to the armor. In her right hand Valanthe carries Gargul's Fist. A Warhammer with a leather grip molded to fit her hand. The head of the Warhammer is shaped into a large strong fist with Gargul's symbol across the knuckles. It is a lasting warning to all undead that escape her wrath that the god of death has not forgotten them.

Valanthe reaches up and removes her plumeless helm. She hangs it from a hook on her belt and runs a gauntleted hand through her short hair. It still felt odd to have it so short. Her head felt light and cold. "It's good to be back. Though leaving things unfiinshed still eats at me. Sounds like you had one hell of an adventure."

"Welcome back Val, I believe that the new look suits you. It sounds almost as if you had as much adventure as we ourselves had. All though I think I'd prefer to visit Gargul's realm as sparcely as possible, and hopefully only visit it again when it's time for me to do so, for my final rest."
Aztyr then decides it's probably time to recover the items left at the temple for safe keeping,"The sooner we get stuff done here and our business at the Catacombs, the sooner we can be about our business. Oh yeah, I suppose I ought to tell Bardamion that Sherentiva decided to stay and do some research. Maybe Vauhwyt should not be with me when I do the informing."

"Val!! Your hair. Trimmed to fit under that much more sensible helm I see. That should protect your face from battle and your hair from Aztyr's close fire support. We also have 2 new faces with us. Uel is the Drow wizard that joined us inside the artifact and Whysper is the half elf traveling with him. Both of them have retired for the night since only so many could be transported to your site and back. Lorth and Bart were sent on another mission by Gargul, we have not seen them since our trip yo his realm. I think Vorelle has the best idea. We can all catch up in the morning. We may as well get some sleep before Ringalingling's magic wakes us at dawn. I don't suppose wishes are quiet spells. If you are still uneasy that the demon may come back for you Val, even here I can watch over you as you take your rest, Imod will cleanse the fatigue from me in the morning. I would not worry though. Daphnella is the proprietress of this bar. Rough as it is I believe it very secure."

Uel (AC 15/19 w extened Mage Armor - HP 72/55 w false life) & Kage(AC 24 - HP 44/27 w extended false life)
Tuesday April 13th, 2010 1:54:57 AM

As Uel dreams of lightning and godlike power, Kage recovers from his massive feast and continues to skulk the Inn and the Tavern below. Seeking forgotten treasures and the odd bits of waste that are the stuff of arcana. Bits of fur, dregs of alcohol in discarded bottles. A loose nail that pulls easily from a floor board could become the components for a hold person spell. Kage knows all of this because Uel knows it, and he knows that the strangest things can turn up where you least expect.

Awkward morning/DM Buzz
Tuesday April 13th, 2010 6:04:57 PM

Sherentiva returns with the away team, in order to check in with Bardamion and pack a few supplies. There are a few asleep when she arrives and it is time for everyone to brake off into groups and begin to rest. "There is no hurry on the treasure, it is safe. It is not going anywhere." Sherentiva assures those that want to do things now. The day to all feels like a couple of months have passed and now dreams should form so that the experience of the day can be recorded and embedded into the long term memory of the character. For those of you that refuse to sleep, or go into reverie, one feels as though they might be hallucinating! A shiny little object appears above their head, humanoid in shape made from sand. It claps its hands together and an explosion of colors spread across the room, then sprinkles of twilight descend down upon the character that attempts to challenge the will of Eberyon. Will save DC 40

For those that rest or fail to resist.

A deep dark dream unfolds for Vauhwyt...
Highlight to display spoiler: {Darkness races across a bright sunny day. The mood of the Avenger brings with her a melancholy despair that darkens the sky. Off in the distance a vision of joy is beheld as she has finally found those responsible for her inner torment. The day has come for revenge. She runs into the mob, swinging her spiked chain, creating a foreboding unease with the rest of her prey as the lust for blood filled within the liontaur is followed through with a skull exploding on the first swing.

The bodies accumulate and the leaders she seek. The ones who wielded unholy instruments of pain are ever elusive. A dozen goblins are now dead and then another. The weapon in her hand feels stronger, in a chaotic sort of way. It seems to appear, the head os her spiked chain now resembles what appears to be a six sided dice at the tip, covered in small spikes. Yet, she wakes never having fulfilled her fantasy. As you wish, it is granted!
}

An epic battle unfolds for Malgant...
Highlight to display spoiler: {An undead army continues to haunt you from your past, but now, you are stronger and more powerful! You are a high priest of Imod with the powers of a Protector! Nothing dares stand in the ways of his children and he has taught his priests to trample the weak of will that would dare cross over to the path of darkness and command undead.

He slaughters every type of undead possible, his ancient nemesis that raised the army near his home when he was young eludes him. Malgant travels through plains, then desert, then forest, then swamp. Each phase of his journey through rougher and rougher terrain, yet, his pace is steady and his will strong. Just before he is able to reach the evil necromancer, he has cornered in a building, he can see his armor is much finer and lighter. Yet, he wakes never having fulfilled his fantasy. As you wish, it is granted!
}

It is deep within a dirty alley and through a door, that Vorelle is projected this night...
Highlight to display spoiler: {Growing up in a family full of abuse and then being married into another just as bad if not worse. Vorelle revisits her past in a collage of scenes where she was ignored and misunderstood.
In every scene, she attempts to say something, only to be interrupted or shouted over. The past is a dark memory for the young girl that fate so coldly chose for her.

A dark memory turned light as her words are able to now form. Syllables are steady and the voices of those abusive around her fade. She carries a new strength in her voice and people can not help but hear her and understand clearly. Her words of wisdom are shared with a new set of people as those faces from her past fade away to the background, to become nothing more then a past experience. Vorelle now earns to teach others of nature. So many places to go and enemies to fight in the name of good, there seems to be an endless task before her. Yet, she wakes never having fulfilled her fantasy. As you wish, it is granted! If you would like to add one point of charisma to your character with this, please feel free, but not obligated, to do so. :)

The liontaur Aztyr finds herself in a forest...
Highlight to display spoiler: {With the breeze blowing through the leaves, it is soon discovered a deep dark cave looms before the four legged female feline. A dark stench is emitted from the opening, like a fresh kill, but from a creature not of this world. She enters, with a spell prepared on her lips for any aggression.

The tunnel is deep and the smell grows greater and greater. One must breathe through their mouth in order to prevent from gagging on what would be left in the intestines. She finds a dark monster, in the shape of a blob. It pulses and quivers as it launches divine magic at the sorceress intruder. Aztyr fights hard with her magic and nearing death, finally defeats the creature that seemed almost immune to her magics. Disgusted and dirty, the only thing Aztyr finds of value in the creatures nest, is a single ring. She casts a spell and identifies it as enchanted to plus three. Yet, the sorceress wants more! More knowledge! More treasure! A back entrance, hidden by the beast descends deeper into the dark. Yet, she wakes never having fulfilled her fantasy. As you wish, it is granted!
}

It is a grand library Uel finds himself...
Highlight to display spoiler: { The dark elf sits in a comfortable chair, in a room with a table presenting a sixteen armed candelabra and nothing but shelves full of books. The wizard rapidly reads one, then an Unseen Servant returns it to the shelf, just to fetch the powerful wizard another one. One after another, knowledge seeps into the mind.

A book on physics, in and out of a gravitational field is very interesting, as is a book on botany and the biology of the half orc brain. One book after another, the light carries the words from the pages to his mind. Soon, he grabs a book, flips through the pages and tosses it aside, fully comprehending the contents, yet, the library continues to get longer. No matter how fast he reads, he just can not get to them all. Yet, he wakes never having fulfilled his fantasy. As you wish, it is granted!
}

In the rigging is where Appolo finds himself...
Highlight to display spoiler: {High on the yard arm, the pirate works the ropes, preparing to tack against the wind while he pitches hither and fro with the waves from the sea. The salty water collides against the prow of the mighty vessel on which he rides as sea gulls follow in the ships wake, to scavange the remains of what the sailors abandon overboard.

Of in the distance, a Ga'alian merchant ship is sighted and the target is announced. The wind the way it is, a vector must be set to intercept the smaller vessel and those on that small ship no, they can not escape the Pirates of Jack. A skirmish commences and grappling hooks grab onto and dig deep into the wood of the ships hull. Dancing from one ships rigging to the other, Appolo gracefully slides down their rigging and in a bloody and daring fight, he helps to capture the ship and it's treasure. The booty is split but deep in his heart, he knows his battle is not over. There will be other days and other battles. Yet, he wakes never having fulfilled his fantasy. As you wish, it is granted
}

It is a dark night, in an unknown city when Whysper finds herself staring out a window...
Highlight to display spoiler: {It is then she sees a little old lady walking across the street, when a cutpurse slips up from behind her and cuts the strings on her bag. The sound of many tinkles is audible, even from the window as it lands into the swift thief's hands. Whysper smirks as the old woman cries out loud, "No!! My lifes savings, some one please help me." Yet, no one helps.

It eats away at the inside of the rogue good of heart. She craves power, indeed. She wants her own ruthless band of cut throats, perhaps like that one below. She now realizes, rogues with a heart are not a dime a dozen, but a needle in a hay stack! She jumps down and pursues the robber. Through allies, her legs pump up and down as adrenaline courses through her veins. THERE HE IS! she thinks to herself as he is spotted climbing up a wall and onto a roof. With a jump, tuck and roll, he is now aware he is being pursued. he turns holding a dagger and for some reason, Whysper is enraged at the fact, that old lady may have starved over the winter without her money. Her blade brightens with her fury. Her feet glow dimly as her speed is also improved. It is a bloody battle, and she has some serious wounds, but her prey is defeated at her feet. She knows, there are more like him out there. Many more and a loving look of gratitude is expressed when the money returned. Yet, he wakes never having fulfilled his fantasy. As you wish, it is granted
}

In the morning Valanthe realizes, she is back with her friends and the week wasn't a dream.

Awakened refreshed, those that get dressed and leave their bed chamber will find the small table in the suites, with the elder brother Bardamion pouring over the notes Sherentiva documented just hours earlier. Without words and not moving his gaze from the papers, he points to where there are some hot and cold beverages and juices as well as some breads, meats, cheeses and some baked beans.

He just continues to read.

Malgant wakes refreshed from his short but eventful slumber. Looking at the rack where last night he stored his armor he sees in it's place the armor from his dream. He detects magic on it and finds that there is a low enchantment on it, but that the fortification is greater than that which his old armor held. He also detects a limited enchantment on it, very similar to Appolo's or Bart's boots. He is pleased. Now he will be able to keep up with his friends and not slow them down. He puts the armor on, reveling in the lightness of each piece and the obvious craftsmanship of each article of it. Deep dark blood red plates make up the armor. Almost black at the center of each lacquered plate, lightening to a brighter red at the edges. Each plate is then edged in black. The armor makes him look and feel like a hero from the epics told by the elders to inspire the initiates to greater devotion. Once dressed he goes about his morning devotions to Imod.

He chooses quiet prayer this morning, knowing that there is no quiet courtyard outside the Inn that he can practice his forms in, and that the room is just too small for that. He meditates the past week. Losing Val, the mission, the loss of Appolo and Vauwhyt, the visit to Gargul's realm, the artifact, the meeting with Bardamion and Sherentiva, Vauhwyt's outburst, Bardamion's response, Val's return. He realizes a few things.

He realizes that he did not like being separated from Val. She has returned and he needs to make sure she never has cause to leave again. It was a hard time for him, worrying about her yet knowing that to ignore the mission meant many in the Wold would suffer at the hands of the Sons of Dread. He feels like he betrayed her doing that , yet he cannot imagine how bad he would feel had the Son's of Dread gotten the artifact to work for them and used it on the innocent people of the Wold.

He realizes that Appolo will likely never change. He had no response last night to the accusations that he was doing the same thing that got him killed the last time all over again. That is who Appolo is and there is nothing that can be done to change it.

He realizes that Vauhwyt was right to be offended by the Centaur in the common room below. He had overlooked it as the expression of racial enmity that the Minotaurs and Centaurs have held for many a long age. Vauhwtyt saw it at face value, another sentient creature stuffed and mounted for the enjoyment of a bunch of drunken clowns. She was right, her means, her methods and her outburst did not serve her purpose, but she was right.

He realizes that he needs to support Vauhwyt in her belief and that the needs of the Centaur downstairs need to be seen to. Bardamion may be over his snit, or he may not be. Either way what is right is right, what is lawful, is lawful. He would help Vauhwyt bury the Centaur and send it on its way to Gargul's realm. That was teamwork. Something the group had lacked a week ago, that has been steadily building over the past few days.

Done with his devotions, Malgant steps out into the lounge area of the suite and finds Bardamion still indifferent to the group. He steps across the lounge and embraces Val, wishing her a good morning. Having a seat, he makes a plate of meat and fruit and eats breakfast. Once Vauhwyt arrives he outlines a plan to get the Centaur out of the Inn and see to the needs of the body of the deceased creature. "What you said yesterday may not have been put as well as you would have liked, or stated in as friendly a way as you might have wanted to say it. But It was true. The Centaur's needs should be addressed. We can take the Centaur with us when we leave this morning . We will take it to a place I know outside the city. It overlooks the sea, and it is consecrated ground, a holy place of sorts. There we can say the rites of the dead, together if you would allow me the privilege, and build a pyre to cremate the body. Once that is done I will give any of us that wishes to help, water walking and we can scatter the ashes over the sea. Do you think that would be a fitting burial?" He waits for Vauhwyt's response.

Vauhwyt (HP90+18 AC28) and Mookie (HP45+18 AC19)
Tuesday April 13th, 2010 8:38:07 PM

Vauhwyt wakes and seeks out her friends.

"I must admit I am very curious about how all your dreams went! Here's mine: I was fighting goblins, which is good. And my weapon was very lucky in fighting them. I am pretty sure that this means it is time to use this."

The liontaur takes out an amulet, one that Vorelle will recognize. "When the Fey King awoke, but before he was tamed, we fought against his folk in defense of a temple of Wardd. As a thank you, the clerics gave us each an amulet. They said we could use it to bless a weapon with luck. Now it is time for me to use mine."

She holds up the amulet and the spiked chain. "Wardd blessed this amulet because we fought the Fey King. But the Fey King has repented, and he adds his blessing to this too. Now I invoke Wardd and Ebbryon! Thank you, Great Ones, and grant your blessings on my humble weapon herre!"

Vauhwyt brings the amulet and the weapon together.

[OOC: Sorry, posted before I saw Mal's post.]

After she is done with her wish, amulet and weapon, Vauhwyt listens to Mal. Her expression is equal parts glad and chagrined. She glances at Bardamion, who seems to be ignoring them -- though she suspects he is listening to every word. She gulps, and her tail swishes nervously.

She says to Mal, "My good friend, when I saw those goblins, I let my personal feelings get the better of me, and I spoke rashly. When I saw the centaur's corpse, I also spoke quickly, maybe too quickly, though maybe not rashly, since it makes me sad to see any creature's remains so treated. I was forward and rude, and I deeply regret that."

"My Lady teaches that a cool head and patience are always more appropriate than an overheated heart. I failed Her in that, and I am grateful that Her rebuke was as gentle as it was."

"I also did not know the context or the history of this place, so too I spoke out of ignorance."

"I would like to look with Lord Gargul's blessing for the spirit of that centaur, and if her unquiet soul yet roams this place, then I will speak with it, and maybe find a way to give it rest, maybe in the way you suggest. Otherwise, I will not risk further offense beyond that which I have already offered."

She turns and walks directly in front of Bardamion. She speaks directly to him. "Your pardon, good sirr." her nervousness shows in her speech. "I owe you more than an indirect apology. I am sorry for my rudeness, and I hope that I can put it to rights. Please accept my regret at the harsh words I spoke in angerr."

Aztyr AC 21 (AC 12/20 w Mage Armor+Shield - HP 98/98) & Jynx (AC 20 - HP 49/49)
Tuesday April 13th, 2010 10:38:41 PM

Aztyr takes a mug and fills it with what appears to be apple juice, it was almost too sweet as she was unused to fruits such as apples being turned into liquid, rather than being cooked and shared as part of a meal. She knows what to do with the bread and meat, adding some cheese, she makes up three sandwiches.
She listens to Malgant and Vauhwyt, and decides to remain quite, she had her opinion about both the goblin and the stuffed Centaur. As far as the goblins went, as long as they left her alone, she wouldn't shove a fireball down thier throats, each of thier throats. As for the centaur, she could see worrying about it's departed spirit, and about the stuffed remains, but this is a Minotaur city, that was a centaur, they could only kill it once, and the stuffing of it was way to keep the reminder for a long time. It wasn't her duty to get between a city of Minotaurs and thier revenge over wars that seemed to last forever before it was over.

"What ever you decide Malgant, Vauhwyt, count on my backing.' She nods to each as she says thier names.

At 6 am Aztyr casts Mage Armor useing her Rod of Lesser Extend.

Whysper helps herself to some fruit and bread from the table, and finds a quiet place to sit and reminisce the vivid dream of the night before. Judging by the conversation that Malgant is having with the stranger, it seems that "Val" is a fellow adventurer, and former party member. I wonder if she'll be joining the group too...
Whysper keeps her distance from the rest of the group for the time being, content to watch and listen to the goings-on.

Vorelle seems little changed when she awakens, and her speech is still stutter-free. From time to time throughout the morning, she smiles a little to herself, but doesn't share anything about what she may have dreamed.

When Vauhwyt makes her apologies, Vorelle moves over to give her friend a hug. "Rash and impulsive? You?" she teases.

Wednesday April 14th, 2010 2:49:40 PM

Valanthe comes down looking quite refreshed. She didn't want the reverie but whatever caused her to enter it but it was much needed. Valanthe came down in her armor, the red mithril plate was freshly polished. The matching red helm was hooked to her belt and the tower shield hung from her back. Now that she was back with her friends she could relax a little more. The episode with the fiend unnerved her a little. What she did find surprising was that she wanted to track this fiend down and bash its head in. The changes the necromancers machine made in her were astonishing. Not just physical but mental as well. She walks over to the table and makes herself up a plate. It wasn't the home cooked meals she got in the village the last week but she didn't have to eat while thinking about a horde of undead trying to wipe out the city. What she would like is to eat a good breakfast and get back to sending undead to face Gargul's judgement.

"Vorelle it's good to see you smile. How's Champ been doing?" Valanthe asks as she eats a muffin.

OOC: Well, Vauhwyt will use her abilities to sense spirits and to look into the Realm of Shadows to search for any spirits lurking about. But really, she wants to see what Baldy says before she starts poking around the tavern, whether ethereally or no. She also wants to hear what happened when she activated her amulet and touched it to her spiked chain.

Waltzing Matilda/DM Buzz
Wednesday April 14th, 2010 11:32:46 PM

The group rejoins for breakfast. Bardamion sits with his neatly trimmed black hair and clear green eyes, easily in a chair reading by some type of light spell as there are no lamps going at this time. Vauhwyt brags on her dream, but does she not remember, her spiked chain is not in her presence and further more, when she looks for the gift from Wardd, it is not found either. Malgant sets down a plan that would likely raise the ire of all in the establishment and it will likely cause some bloodshed and even that discussion does not rouse the tall elf from taking a page he holds and lying it face down on the table with others as he continues with the next. Aztyr doesn't really want to get involved in politics, but she will back up her friends in whatever they decide. Whysper is again off in a corner listening and watching her surroundings. She doesn't share her dream for some reason. Vorelle in a steady and clear voice uses sarcasm to help her old friend feel better. Valanthe greeted everyone she knew, including pets and introduces herself to the new people, then gets herself some food, which is satisfying if not tasty. Appolo feels as though, there are some springs wound just a bit to tight and sometimes, a safe life isn't worth living.

Bardamion seems to not notice the group until Vauhwyt addresses him directly. He looks at her over the top of the papers he is reading, then sets them down, using his finger tips to make sure they are all together and squared, with no edges sticking out past others. Just a few seconds pass, but this man has some way of making mere seconds feel as though he is pulling your soul from out of your skin. His face emotionless, he doesn't really recognize the apology, but simply says, "Matilda is no trophy, but a reminder to her enemies. She was placed there in honor of her prowess in battle, when she alone... with Daphenella, so many years ago staged a massive rescue mission to return over two hundred centaur prisoners of war."

Bardamion reaches for the small glass of wine and takes a sip, again, drawing out the seconds into what appears to be hours.

"The anchor was stuck in the harbor and the minotaur militia was closing in with their ferries. Matilda jumped overboard to cut the rope, stranding herself on the shore where she killed over thirty minotaurs before they finally killed her, honorably in battle. Her life was taken so that Daphenella could maintain her identity as well as save the prisoners."

Bardamion looks at each person in turn, his eyes penetrating like an awl through cloth. "Daphenella has only once went to Gargul to petition a soul. Matilda refused to return, saying she couldn't have died a better way a second time. Matilda in jest told Daphenella before going to a part of the Realm of Shadows she most nobly deserves. "I want them to remember me forever! Let them remember centaurs will always be their equal, if not greater."

He reaches again for the unread papers and finishes with some last words before he goes back to reading. "Daphenella was soon after the proprietor of this establishment and learned, that a seed does not grow and bloom over night presenting a flower in the morning and neither do a people change over night, but those with time on their hands have learned to be like a river and carve slowly over time, a more good path for others to follow."

He looks up one last time, "Bring the articles from our enemies back here to me, unless this establishment is still not to your liking, then you may take it all and be safe. You now have powerful enemies after you. I will investigate the corpse in a day or two."

He at this time still acts indifferent to the group, but this might just be another test of your will power. To take the money and run or to fulfill some perceived obligations that were null and void with a contract, some people here, didn't even sign?

" There are weapons among the gear they used. What would you have us do with those? The staff will not be pleased if we try and bring them inside." Malgant had heard that tale before, what Minotaur who aspired to be either a soldier or priest had not. On that day a single Centaur had laid waste to almost an entire group of militia. He had no idea that the subject of the tale had been placed in the Inn to be a constant reminder to the Minotaur. He knew now that the Centaur was at rest and indeed needed no further protection.

Valanthe AC 32/ 25 vs intangible HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Thursday April 15th, 2010 12:58:21 PM

It was hard to miss Bardamion in a bad mood. Valanthe almost went and said something but decided to leave him be. Best to remember what he was and not what he appeared to be. Finished with breakfast, Valanthe sat back and kept quiet. It was an odd feeling. It was peaceful and restless at the same time. She wasn't quite sure what was going on but hoped it would lead to somewhere. Surely there was another artifact to hunt for. Something the Sons of Dread were up to. What really felt odd was not having Gargul's Fist handing from her belt. The warhammer should have been there but it wasn't and she didn't really like it. She couldn't even practice with it.

"Bardamion, is there anything I can help out with? Or is this information not for our eyes, at least not yet?
I'm more than willing to help, if you want."
(diplomacy rolled 16)

Depending on his reply, she either digs in and helps or heads back to the table and make a couple more sandwiches, as well as slipping a large chunk of meat and some fruit to Jynx.

He looks over at Aztyr. "You should already know what I am reading, but I may have questions, you can answer in just a little while." He goes back to reading.

Malgant asks about the market and how to address him. Bardamion sets the papers on his lap as if he is being bothered by gnats and is swatting at them, "The employees here know I am named Bardamion. They use Lord Geyser when I am in a bad mood, if you can get the point. They think it's funny a little half elf acting like a minotaur and I let them." His temper cools, "In a way, Vauhwyt did me a favor down stairs, to back up the fact nothing can intimidate me. I wouldn't make a habit of it though, if I were another."

Now, Bardamion just waits for everyone that is about to depart, to do so, before he goes back to business.

Gathering their items, they now have free reign of the city, but getting outside finds you all in the early afternoon. Spells normally cast in the morning are actually started around 11AMish. Valanthe feels much more secure with her old frind back in her hand and on her belt.

Still, the city is before you. Who's splitting up this time?

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 48+20/48)
Thursday April 15th, 2010 9:15:31 PM

Whysper savours her breakfast. It's been a while since she's tasted bread this fresh or fruit this sweet. With her last mouthful, she reaches into her pocket and pulls out her favourite dagger. Turning the blade in the light, she examines it, trying to see if last night's dream has altered it as she believes it has.

Uel has been resting for quite a while - perhaps his night was just as interesting? She contemplates staying in the room a little longer. She hasn't seen a half-elf in a position of authority before, and this experience with Bardamion interests her. That being said, she has spent enough time sitting idle. "I'll be out in the bar if anyone needs me" she says aloud, to noone in particular "Come get me on your way back in, Mal". With that, she pockets her dagger, gives a bow towards Bardamion - no doubt unnoticed - and leaves the room.

Split up? us?Why would we do that? looks at Appolo....

My current shield is animated Marty, allowing me to use a 2 handed sword and still gain the benefits of my shield. Animated is a +2 enhancement on a shield and I have some other goals in mind for my shield. We are now entering the 'save or die' stages of the game where the next spell cast at me may be the last spell I see in the encounter. I have need of some higher end enhancements for the shield that the animation may get in the way of and will certainly make very expensive. Besides that, the novelty of my shield floating in front of me has kinda worn off.

Valanthe AC 32/ 25 vs intangible HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Friday April 16th, 2010 10:10:08 PM

Valanthe walked with the others. She was quite glad to be in a city again. As nice as that village was. She watched the people watch her. Everybody just assumed she was just a dark elf with fancy hair. She couldn't blame them. As far as she knew there were no elves like her. A dark elf in mithril plate armor with a big shield attracted attention. Not that she was afraid of cuthroats and bandits. Especially when she walked with an equally unique group of people. All of which were just as deadly as she was. These minotaurs would assume that Vorelle was weak. What a surprise they would get if they saw her fight.

"So what's on the agenda for today?"

Moderate Fortification, AC 27, 92/92 hp Malgant

"Mainly we just head to the temple and retrieve the loot from the Dread soldiers and casters we killed. We take that to Bardamion since that was the deal and he can decide where we go from there. Really nothing difficult unless someone decides to make trouble with us." Malgant watched how Val held herself and moved in her armor. It was like a second skin to her and she seemed not at all discomforted by the weight of the plate. What HAD happened to her to change a light armor wearing mobility conscious elf into a plate wearing juggernaut? Not that he was complaining. He relished the chance to show what a protector and a hardened warrior paired up could do in a fight. Especially when the Protector had the best interests of the fighter in mind because he cared for her. He almost felt sorry for their opponents, almost.

Saturday April 17th, 2010 4:52:33 AM

"This is the same temple we arrived at yesterday? If so, and if I'm not specifically needed, Kage can ride along with you guys while I get some work done in town. "Besides the fact that whenever one of us wanders off they end up dead, it sounds fine. The trip to the temple will take at most an hour or two. Most of the town will be like Gorenthall. They will speak Minotaur and little else. Merchants will likely speak a few languages so they will probably be able to speak with you. In case it was not readily apparent from what you have seen so far offenses will likely get you beat up. Through money and the fact that they wouldn't be able to hurt him anyway, Bardamion has carved himself a niche where he isn't bothered. Just watch what you say and do and you should be alright. After all we aren't complete savages. I haven't prepared status today because when I do nothing ever happens. Therefore you will be on your own if you get in trouble. Oh and generally the Dread shoot first and then question your corpse, so be careful. If your argument is ' they would never approach me in town', then bear in mind both Val and myself as well as Bart were approached in a city larger than this and had combat erupted I am sure we would have been the ones brought to justice. I am not trying to deter you, just merely stating the facts as I know them so that you are not caught by surprise."
Malgant then shifts his gear, allows his shield to float free and loosens his sword in the ring on his back for an easier draw. " Let us get there and back. I have some prayers that I need to say in the temple and a great deal of negotiation preparation to accomplish for our trip to the catacombs once Bardamion has determined what our share of the spoils of war are. I would urge you all once again to prepare for your future demise and buy the components needed to retrieve your soul from Gargul's realm should you wish the retrieval to take place."

No Buzz. Malgant stated before the adventure started it would be a good idea to buy components for the spell. He bought them and so did Aztyr. Malgant used his gem(5000 gp diamond) to cast the spell to rez both characters. If the wold requires the spell be cast once for each character then we have a problem. However the Wold does things different in that you need to go plead your case so the spell is more of a transport spell than a direct rez.

Gargul awaits/DM Buzz d20+10=11 ; d20+8=26 ;
Tuesday November 10th, 2009 6:49:20 PM
High Priest Davros raises his eyebrows at the mention that Imod favors those not of the Minotaur race and laughs a bit, but allows Malgant to continue.

When finished he shakes his head as if a child had just told an outrageous story. "Imod is the true god of Minotaurs and wars have been raised over the difference. Keep wary of your words amongst your people Malgant for to assume that some are tolerant of such blasphemey may find you in more kaylebs then you can handle!"

He relaxes a bit though, knowing the distance and time that the protector has been gone might have confused him on the solid foundations from which their religion is carried and the many deaths that have occurred, all in the name of Imod.

We do not petition Gargul for the return of our dead Malgant. If they die with honor in battle, then we trust Gargul to send them to Imods hall where their bliss is eternal. It is what warriors strive for and it is the priests that want to lead these warriors to this end. If some die due to accidents, then it was meant to be, because there can be no way back from the after life with honor, when you have done the best you can on your first journey. Why take a chance at ruining what is meant to be? I'm am sorry Malgant, but you have as much experience in visiting the halls of Gargul then I and quite frankly, I only want to see him once. With this endeavor, you are on your own, but again, if Imod allows you to use your powers to do so, then we will not prevent it."

When the body of the undead is produced, High Priest Davros explains, "I know of nothing like this." He summons his junior priest Vouger, a scholar in the arts of all religion and he gasps after studying it. "Surely, it is the remains of a lich." He points out the scars that are present on the body. The souls of the feet burned. Strips of flesh removed with a whip. Jagged edged blades used to create significant superficial wounds, there intent, only to cause pain. The priest goes on to say, "These creatures were tortured to death so that their soul may be placed in a phylactery. You must have destroyed the phylactery in order to fully kill this beast. Where is it?" When the group does not produce one an autopsy is performed on the skull. Imbedded into the sinus cavity is a darkened gem, burnt out and now worthless, where once it may have been worth a fortune. "This is indeed different. Not at all what a lich actually does. Upon this creatures death, the phylactery consumed the soul of the creature, fortunate for you all. These are indeed a new species of lich. What types of magic did they use on you?"

When it is explained, they were warriors in armor, the scholar shakes his head, "The Dread as conceived a new nature of beast. One in which the wold should greatly fear. Be on your guard for if there are many more of these creatures, an army will be needed to thwart but a squad of these abominations." At this time, Vouger goes into detail on the powers of a lich (reference the MM) and goes back to his study, more in thought then when he arrived.

Gorenthall takes possessions of the treasure found, Appolo's gear being amongst it and assures everyone, his death will come before the items are in any way removed from his protection.

The bodies of the slain are prepared and the time has come for Malgant to cast the Raise Dead spell.

In the middle of the pit, a gate opens into a swirling black and red terrain. Wolds blood is seen to run in rivulets, streams and rivers as off in the distance a dark mountain looms, contrasting itself even against the gloom of the realm. It awaits those that wish to step through.

So where is it Malgant says he uses components and casts a spell from memory? please feel free to go back and cut and paste what I missed.

I Cast the spell. I used the components Aztyr bought for me months ago, when the Blackbird Lake scene ended and before we went on this mission. I erased them from my sheet like you would used rations or a broken item. If you don't want me to erase my 5000 gp diamond and would prefer the temple used theirs, thats ok with me. But the spell was in my list, then it was cast. It was successful so the components came from somewhere. It was all a DM post, not mine.

Malgant had not truly known what to expect. This was about how he would have imagined it though. Armored beneath his robes, The Priest steps through the portal without a backward glance. He does not know if they will need to win their way to an audience with the God of Death, but his sword remains sheathed as he steps into the unknown. He reasons that bearing his sword in a battle ready position, such as drawn, would be an affront to those on the other side. Once he is through the portal, he steps to the side, awaiting any of his companions that wish to follow. If none do, he waits a moment and gathers his beaings, then sets off to do what he came here for, bring his friends souls home if they wish it.

Well, if you wanted to do it without the help of the temple, that is fine also. Please mark off the compnent for the spell.

I also need those that bought the two spells, to retrieve Val, to mark off the price for those also please.

Sunday April 18th, 2010 7:39:34 PM

Vauhwyt is eager to get the loot back to Bardy, then hopefully he will claim none of it and we can sell it and divvy up the loot, then pay back our debts.

OOC: DM Buzz, sorry I am confused. Did Vauwhyt apply her amulet yet, or did she do it in her sleep, or did someone else, or what? When she looks at her weapon of choice, what does she see?

DM Buzz: Vauhwyt wished for the amulet to effect her spiked chain and it has. I just haven't written the new description down yet. Look for it in the next post. :)

Bardamion stands when Vorelle states the group is in the dark. He slowly crosses over to the door, "What I expect are problem solvers that do not need to be micro managed or nurtured. Indeed, if you crave a pat on your back for saving the Wold, you might receive that from Mother or Sherentiva. I can assure you, what you can expect from me is excellence in doing what I say I will do and accomplishing that in the most efficient manner possible. That does not include, wandering into unknown areas while fatigued and out of spells or walking off by myself after knowing there were dangers present. There are other things we could discuss, but it seems rather pointless."

It seems to have taken him forever to cross the short distance, but somehow, he timed it to where he closes the door behind the party members as they leave down the hall.

Vauhwyt hardly recognizes her spiked chain and even the check person makes sure the ticket is correct. Just like in the dream, the spiked chain has what appears to be a six sided dice on it's tip. Each number has a designated spike to itself on each side. After her detah, she feels as though, now, she owes someone a debt of gratitude.

Malgant discourages separating the group along with the Grim Avenger and others, but he warns those that do, they are dealing with a race of people that are full of pride, that come in many different dispositions. Like the minotaurs in Gnym that seemed quite humble and appreciative of the hero's help, to the thugs in the street that almost approached the ranger.

Uel asks who will keep Kage for him while he takes to heart the Protectors warning. He doesn't really say what he is looking for however. Please let me know where you are going so I can speed up some posts. :)

Valanthe although again quite different. She feels like it hasn't changed much with the group. A few new faces and some gone. Such is the life of war. She asks, what to expect from this day.

For a change, Appolo goes with, instead of against, the flow of the group. Perhaps it is because there is a pot of gold, per-sey , at the end of his rainbow.

As always, the sorceress Aztyr loves to be near the fire and when Bardamion closes the door leaving him alone with her, he walks back to his chair and settles in and with a calm tone. "Do you have any questions or have something to say before I finish reading?"

Whysper makes herself at home in the bar area. Seeing as she is the only female in the joint at this mid day hour, she has quite an assortment of "gentlemen" wanting her attention and buying her whatever drinks or food she desires.

Those that go to the temple find Gorenthall is easily replaced while he retrieves your gear. He does not seem to notice that Appolos armor is missing from the horde and he is now wearing them. The powers of Gargul never cease to amaze some.

No encounters and three hours later, the five that went back to the temple find themselves back at the apartment. Again, taking a left up the stairs finds the group near the minor rooms, yet going further then before, the VIP rooms are soon in sight and so is the door to the room where Bardamion awaits.

ooc: Right, looked like we had a component issue to work out so I kept quiet. I prepared a fabricate spell and with my total of +11 in craft(weapons) I can take 10 to turn out an insane number of masterwork weapons in a single casting. I'd like to find a weapon smith who needs some quality work done quickly and see if I can make some cash. Then it would be a simple shopping trip, scroll components, maybe some cheap magic items if I can find them. Not sure yet on how that kind of purchase works in the wold. Steel weighs 490 lbs/cubic foot (googled). At my level this means I can produce 1,347 longswords in just one minute, provided the smith has the steel to do it. This is a market value of 20,205gp which, at my skill level would amount to 4 years of work. Of course I can vary the weapon type to avoid overstock issues and I'm willing to work at a drastic loss for the sake of quick cash. If I can't find a weapon smith with the supplies or or willingness, I can do almost as well at any other trade (take 10 for 18) But weapons allow me to take 10 and produce masterwork. Final value is totally DM's decision, but that's the intent.

"Whysper, would you mind if Kage rides along with you? You get along well."

Valanthe AC 32/ 25 vs intangible HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Tuesday April 20th, 2010 2:59:03 PM

Valanthe removes her helm, hanging it from a hook on her belt. So far this morning she was bored. Normally she wasn't this restless but just sitting around without some sort of goal got on her nerves. Plus Bardamion was somebody she really didn't want to deal with. He had some sort of problem and Valanthe didn't feel like being the target of underserved anger. Times like this she missed sailing on the high seas. There was nobody to bother you and nothing but the horizon to shoot for. The enemy was clear and they were everywhere. It wasn't as complicated as it was now. The cloudprance family, ancient mysterious artifacts, and a shadowy orginization that was hard to find. At least Ga'al was obvious, heartseed everybody.

"So what do we have to do before we can get out of here?"

Aztyr is glad that the rest returned, undamaged, and she smiled as they entered. She waited until all were present and then she adressed Bardamion.
"Bardamion, We as a Group are not all formally trained as warriors or soldiers. We seem to work best when underpressure, don't ask why, but I assume it's because it focus' our ways of thinking to one goal. None of us are forced into something we don't want to go. Why Appolo went off alone and went to sleep, you'd have to ask him, we didn't tell him he could or couldn't go, he's a free person and can make his own choices. As to why we pressed on after they dug all afternoon, we sent Scouts forward to inspect, not start a battle. Now imagine if we had started to rest and then the Dread had attacked, I doubt it would have turned out any better than it did.
After we went to Gargul Realm to retrieve those whom fell, one in battle, one his own recklessness, we were informed it was our duty to finish with the Device, by a GOD, it's kinda hard to say no to that.
We got through the device and I thought we made a fair resolution to the device and the problem it presented.
We then returned here, and you were here as well as your sister. We reported in and left nothing out, as far as I know. We could have polished up our report and not mentioned the troubles we had along the way. We felt honored to give you the full truth in our reports. (Diplomacy 23)"

Aztyr leaves her speach end there and awaits Bardamion's reply or explosion, unashamed by her beliefs.

Moderate Fortification, AC 27, 92/92 hp Malgant
Tuesday April 20th, 2010 4:51:10 PM

Malgant starts to Tense as Bardamion ushers the group out of the suite that morning. His lungs full he is about to launch into a defense for each and every slight Bardamion has brought up. Only to have the door quietly closed in his face. He stands, Head lowered, eyes closed, fists clenching and unclenching for a full minute before letting his breath out and turning to go to the temple. Those close by hear a muttered" I don't need this, I really don't need this." as he heads down the hallway. In the Temple Malgant talks to Gorenthall as he pulls the gear out of storage and lays it out before them. He thanks his old friend and speaks to him in Minotaur." We need to catch up on what has happened in our lives while I was away. Also after this afternoon's parley with my employer I believe I will need something to drink, a great deal of something to drink. We should meet up and solve both of these problems tonight. Name a tavern besides the Mangled Centaur and I will meet you there this evening to catch up." All the way back to the Inn Malgant tests the words he will use to explain why things happened the way they did. If Bardamion's tone remains as smarmy as it was this morning Malgant has little doubt the conversation will go south quickly. When they arrive back in Bardamion's suite and have all settled down Aztyr speaks. Malgant is floored at hearing the liontaur that rarely commits to a course of action so fully and eloquently sum up all the things that were on his mind. His argumnts fall uselessly to the dusty floor of his brain and lie there, pale in comparison to Aztyr's words. His jaw snaps shut with an audible click as he waits for Bardamion's response.

Valanthe AC 32/ 25 vs intangible HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Tuesday April 20th, 2010 6:08:44 PM

Valanthe slides over next to Malgant, putting an arm around his back. She could see how tense he was. Valanthe must have missed something when she was away. From the look of things the hordes of murdering undead was the better deal than dealing with Bardamion. "You know everybody Appolo and I still know people in the pirates of jack. It wouldn't take much to sail the high seas again. It's a freedom that you can't imagine."

Appolo
Tuesday April 20th, 2010 7:59:29 PM

Appolo goes along to the Temple collects the gear,He is pleasent easy going and relaxed.Appolo takesa postion close to Bardimon.Appolo quietly listens to Azryr as she goes off on him.Appolo adds"Now I no whatevers got you're pantie in bunch, can't be us.We di as you asked, denied the Dread access to the object, then we secured it and made a powerful ally.We did out jobs, however imperfect and coordinated our efforts were we still got the job done.So here the loot we took from the Dread. As far Vauhwyt's out burst goes last night. You shouldn't have brought us to this place. As you knew that one or more of us would find it more then offensive. So I think we will be leaving your employ and as far as enemies go.Well I count Gods amongst them so some Lich who dreams of becoming a god is just another second rate loser who one day will end up on the business end of my blade."

The tall lanky incrdibly gracefull pirate turns to the others"I think our business is done here.Unless anyone has any objections, shall we take our leave."

Moderate Fortification, AC 27, 92/92 hp Malgant
Tuesday April 20th, 2010 9:32:05 PM

Malgant slips his arm around Val, happy to be back at her side. She knew when he was angry, or sad, or happy and was able to adjust his mood accordingly so that he didn't blurt the first thought to come to mind. At Appolo's sanguine outburst Malgant bristles. Some of the things the pirate said rang true to Malgant's own feelings, at least they had been his feelings until Aztyr had brought them up to Bardamion much more smoothly than Appolo, or Malgant could have. Trying to save Aztyr's good vibe Malgant says, " Excellent opinion you have Appolo. Though I don't share it. The agent of our mistress," Malgant nods to Bardamion," was about to finish our debrief. He has read our reports and no doubt has some questions. He is also the one to determine the disposition of the loot we won from the Dread if I am not mistaken. Additionally I think that Sherentiva mentioned that the family would share with us what they know about the type of undead we faced so that when we face them again we know better what to expect. I would value that information. I don't doubt that the casters we killed were mere pawns in the Dread's forces, but I am sure that an eternal being would still desire revenge for their deaths. Besides, there are still a few hours before I am to meet up with my old friend and catch up on a few years of missed carousing."
Malgant looks to Bardamion, " Please, continue with your debrief." This last is said as Malgant puts his feet up and relaxes, awaiting Bardamion's review and questions.

Vorelle
Tuesday April 20th, 2010 10:18:22 PM

Vorelle has undergone many changes since she began her career as an adventurer. She no longer hides, she is no longer fearful of strangers, she no longer stutters. But in one respect she hasn't changed a bit--she still doesn't like bullies.

"I was not fatigued," she tells Bardimon. "And I can't run out of spells because I'm not a caster. If you're going to yell at me, at least yell at me for stuff I did."

She remains alert on the journey to the temple, and is relieved that it is uneventful. If there is time, she would like to stop at the marketplace before returning to the inn--but she will go with her friends, whatever they decide.

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 48+20/48)
Tuesday April 20th, 2010 10:55:35 PM

Whysper reluctantly returns from the bar to the back room. She was quite enjoying the attention from the bar patrons. It was a surprise to her that none got "too friendly", but suspects they noticed Bardimon's scene earlier, and were reluctant to try anything against one of his associates.

"I'm happy to look after Kage if you want to go for a wander, Uel" She sits down cross-legged on a cushion, and beckons her rat friend over with a fresh piece of bread.

Vauhwyt (HP90+18 AC28) and Mookie (HP45+18 AC19)

Vauhwyt overhears Whysper [OOC hope that's okay]. "Please come up and join us in talking with Bardamion. I know it is less than relevant to you, but there might be information or fireworks worth hearing."

The liontaur says the same to Uel if he is nearby.

Then she goes upstairs to hear the goings on. She herself stays in the background. She does smile at the thought that Vorelle is saying more than she is.

Highlight to display spoiler: {ooc: I really want to end the tedium of this banter, so I will post Bardamions answer to Vorelle tonight, then I have a huge post for you all tomorrow as Bardamion examines the items. If you really want this to continue, it will get rather boring. He has a longer life then you all so he will be getting the last word in, in some manner. :)}

Bardamion looks at Vorelle with a question on his face. He hasn't "yelled" at all. Perhaps, it just felt like he had or perhaps you hoped he would, but no, it is his absolute calm that causes his words to be so sharp.

Without raising his voice and in that same calmness, "Very well young lady, in your case, it is not what you did, but rather what you did not do. You did not stop them."

Huge post to come tomorrow. I have to deal with Uel and that is going to take some time as well. I would like to solve this all before Marty takes over on Monday. :)

For his part, Kage is all too happy to ride along with his young, half elven lady friend. He quickly finds a comfortable spot and snuggles in.

Moderate Fortification, AC 27, 92/92 hp Malgant
Wednesday April 21st, 2010 4:29:31 PM

Bardamion's verbal slap to Vorelle strikes a nerve in the Protector's heart. Vorelle is well....Vorelle. She would not intentionally hurt anyone's feelings as far as Malgant knows and here Bardamion is throwing combat efficiency in her face. She knows that she is not a hard hitting combatant. But she tries. She flanks and distracts her opponents so that other heavier hitters can benefit from her distraction. She is hands down the most observant person Malgant has ever known, and her knowledge of the natural world is vast.Malgant's gaze focuses on the totem around her neck. He still didn't know what she had done to earn it, but he was sure she had. Imod seemed sure too for how else could Malgant justify the effect of the sanctuary spell that had stayed the hand of all those undead. He couldn't, but he could defend her on this point. Calmly, evenly Malgant addresses Bardamion. "Sounds to me like you think your mother did a poor job of picking us but you haven't the stones to tell her. Thus you just stay icily calm and nitpick the decisions made at the front line from a place of safety and comfort. Vorelle may not be able to put out the same amount of damage as a Silver Dragon can in a fight, but I would rather have her at my side. She has passion and tenacity. The reason she keeps talking back to you, trying to find out why you seem so disappointed in us is because you lack both. You are treating us as an unpleasant task that must be seen to and in a manner that clearly shows that you don't want to do it. At least Sherentiva showed some emotion in her debriefing. She didn't need to feign interest because she actually cared how the mission went and was interested in the details of it. You may care but it is hidden behind such a wall of proper bureaucracy that it is sterile and without life. Perhaps you act in such a perfect manner because you will live so long that doing or saying something you will regret will stay with you a long time. I am sorry for you in that regard if it is so? Regrets and shared triumphs are what makes a life worth living. Please continue on though. I would hear your take on the mission, no matter how sterile the delivery might be. I believe in your mother's cause. I think it is worth fighting, and dying for. Do you?"

On to the magic/DM Buzz  d20+6=22 ;
Wednesday April 21st, 2010 4:59:59 PM

Uel walks toward the market section unmolested. On his journey, he passes through a neighborhood known as guilds hall. The buildings here are well designed and groomed. They represent many different aspects of merchants, from weaving and fish, to armoring and weapon smithing. Even a local wizards guild. Indeed the variety of craftspeople on the island means it is thriving, but it also means that their commerce is protected.

Plans are made by others for an eventful evening. Malgant wants a new place to drink and Gorenthall nods in understanding. In minotaurHighlight to display spoiler: { If you want fancy, meet me at The Willow. It will cost me a months pay, but it is time we caught up. Down by the docks.}

Upstairs, the group has a few things to say Bardamion and he responds in kind while Vauhwyt remains still and this is one of those rare occasions where Mookie knows propriety. Valanthe thinks fondly of the wind in sails and the roll of a boat in the water as she snuggles up next to Malgant on the large couch.

To Aztyr Bardamion nods his head in agreement, not angry "I agree that your honesty is a foundation for a solid relationship in all good company. I do not understand how chaos operates efficiently, so to read these notes literally causes me concerns, not just for a mission but for your own safety!" Some sign of emotion expressed finally.

While Bardamion is addressing Appolo, I just want it know that as a DM, I like Appolo. He is a wild card that has ket me on my toes and no DM will be bored ruling on his actions. These words are from a Lawful Good Silver Dragon that wants to express his own opinion, from what he read in the report. Please do not take it as a personal assault. :)

Appolo thinks him and everyone else in the group are done with the tyrant and this is when Bardamion smiles. "That's always the easy way for you isn't it Appolo. You let others do the work while you do nothing. Seems pretty consistent, they dig the sand while you relax. They come up here and give a detailed and efficient report while you relax. Even in the artifact while your friends struggled against what seems very painful obstructions, you did nothing. You are a liability and why they would want to call on Gargul to return you to the same liability again and again and again is completely beyond me. I was to take your report while Sherentiva went to study but I have concluded already that you just don't care. What is sad is, you don't care if an entire people would perish because of one impetuous action, let alone your own team members you supposedly call friend." He shakes his head in wonderment that such a situation could exist.

Now, where ever everyone is at this point, they watch as Bardamion gets on his knees in front of a coffee table and from under neath, hidden, he pulls out a very strange device. It looks like a complicated micro scope with an adjustable base. Clearly it is complicated and there are small levers and buttons.

His face gets a little scrunched as he thinks on how to use it. "Sherentiva is the one that normally uses these things. She has many skills in them. I on the other hand am not as skilled as her, so anyone with the ability to Use Magic Devices, I will need your help. Please aid me. For those of you that would like to go about town, please be careful. I will need a few days to study these items and determine where they were manufactured. Feel free to enjoy yourselves."

Those that help Bardamion calibrate the machine to identify magic items will add +2 to his ability. If he succeeds, then all the items won't need to go through the Catacombs for Identify spells. This Teucri Device has a DC 25 to calibrate to magic. A character must have skill points in Use Magic Device to aid him.

Bardamion rolled: DC 22

Bardamion said that to Vorelle as you were all leaving, at least that is the jest as next you all went to the temple. Let us say, Malgant confronts him with that question when everyone returns, in the room and not in the hallway.

Bardamion would still answer Malgant "Longer then you could possibly understand. That is why I stress the danger involved. This isn't the work for a bunch of clumsy teenagers. If you are not trained warriors well, you better learn, because your enemy is, as you have seen. I'm trying to run you off because I am worried you are all going to get killed and then what? We need a group with longevity and a willingness to sweat and bleed beside each other, everyone."

" Better. I can feel that emotion cleanly in your words. Though our ages may be young, our races, noble and ignoble are not as long lived as yours. We understand there are risks. We accepted them. When we are sloppy people die, agian an accepted risk. Note I say accepted, not acceptable. Thankfully you are still inside the sterile shell you are showing us. I am glad because you were beginning to worry me. I am completely unskilled with magic devices I do not know. I wish I could help you with this one but I cannot. Also remember the Lich . He still remains at the temple. The thought of carrying around an ancient sack of meat did not appeal to me, so he will need to be viewed at the temple."

"Perhaps I can assist in it's function" This is the chance she's been waiting for - to prove herself before this apparently powerful half-elf.

Use Magic Device: 39 (Nat 20) to assist Bardamion

Vorelle
Wednesday April 21st, 2010 7:58:31 PM

Vorelle merely smiles at Bardimon's reply. Fair enough. She had not stopped them. Though whether anyone, ever, in the entire history of the Wold, had ever stopped Vauhwyt or Appollo from doing anything...that's an open question. Come to think of it, she wouldn't want to try to stop Malgant, either. Or Valanthe.

If there is time, Vorelle would like to go to the marketplace and get some new clothes. The shapeless, battered attire she had used as a form of social camoflauge no longer suits her.

Aztyr stays out of the way and watches as they tinker with the device.

Wednesday April 21st, 2010 10:11:45 PM

"Bardamion perhaps I can offer some perspective that you may not have considered. Oh you are quite correct that Appolo needs a boot in the arse from time to time. One that I'll be placing should he need it. Plus I can see how he would just grate on you. Appolo can be quite ruthless which is to be expected if you think about where we were before. As Pirates of Jack we were a special strike force. Often a single unit against a country of fanatical and deadly warriors. It was an impossible task that was suicide. Striking out against the heart of a vengeful god's main temple. One that we accomplished and survived. It was...." Valanthe paused, her eyes looking far away as she struggled to find the words, "a trying experience. One that I cannot describe. Even if I did I'm not sure you would understand. What I'm trying to say is that you want your enemies to go away, Appolo can do that. You want longevity. We waged a personal war against Ga'al. A god that would steal your soul. A fate which I find worse than death."

A thought enters her mind. She turns to Malgant while Bardamion is fiddling with the device. "If were looking for the Sons of Dread and what little things they may be up to. Well we may want to contact the Pirates of Jack. Pirates hear things. Things normally they won't share but I think they would talk to Appolo and me. I'm sure the Cloudprance resources are quite good but there could be other ways to learn things. Things they wouldn't hear. It might not get us anything new but it could be worth a shot."

Vauhwyt brightens at the sight of the new machine. "Maybe it is the jackdaw in me," she says, "but I love to try my luck on shiny new things like that."

Mookie pops his head out of Vauhwyt's belt pouch. "Hey! I resemble that remark!" He takes a look at the magic machine. "Ooo! What's that?"

Liontaur and raven both come closer for a look. "Hey misterr," Vauhwyt says. "Try putting that dinglehopper there into the frajjistan." Aid Another 14 gives a +2.

"Yeah, and look at that geegaw," adds Mookie. "Try giving that a poke." Aid Another 25 gives another +2.

Monday April 26th, 2010 8:17:32 PM

Bardamion looks to the group; using the device to identify the items presented to him. It produces a light from a circular hole in one of its sides, shining that light upon the item is the only thing Bardamion did. He lists them off in a monotone voice; until he comes to the armor.

It seems Apolo has tired of me... Im sure you'll give this information to him. He says, a grin on his face; he also explains that the armor seems as though it was made in Izen;

Some of the other equipment as well; but full plate is expensive no?

Four +4 Tower Shields
One +4 Tower Shields- Sundered completely
One +4 Tower Shield - Sundered 10pts.
Six +1 Keen Bastard Swords
Six +1 rings of protection
Six rings of Counterspell
Two Amulets of Health +6
Two +2 Rings of Protection
One Neutral Robe of the Archmage (Brown instead of Gray)
Two black Beads of Force
One Evil Robe of the Archmage (Black)
One Murlynd's Spoon
One Folding Boat
One Spell Book Arcane Locked; ( Black Hardened skin of some creature binds the book in a secure mounted briefcase. A large mithril clasp keeps the all in one box secure until opened. 1000 GP Value without the spells)
and Six +4 Full Plate armor

ExDM Buzz reminder. One of those tower shields is sundered 10 points and another is completely sundered, worthless at this time.

Mookie adds, "You said it, Boss!"

Out of character:

Is there an XP award too, Marty and Buzz? Are we at the end of the module?

My suspicion is that all this loot will put us way over what we should have for PCs at our level. My suggestion is that we tally our newest xp / level, figure out how much we should have for a character at our level, add loot to bring us to that level, and then donate the rest to charity. Comments?

Bardamion shurgs his shoulders. Being a Dragon had certain perks. Not needing anything laid out before him for example. Seeing some of the group wide eyed over the magical items, Bardimion sighs and says, Well; I've no use for none of this. But Gold I truly value. Im sure you have a way to sell these things. So; find the total value of everything here, and split it equally among me and yourselves. Keep what you wish, as long as I get my share in gold.

Meanwhile, Uel roams around looking for a smith, with raw matrials. He soon finds a shop that seems to have what he needs. Harvy's Smithing Services reads the sign above the beat down shop. Walking inside the shop the man is obviously a bit overloaded with buisness. Right now, the old man sets at a table, pipe in hand smoking away. He's balding, but what hair he has is gray, wearing stained pants and a cut off t-shirt, glasses nearly an inch thick. Peoples these days, an so impatient... Good work takes time... Doesn't anyone realize this?

Finally noticeing Uel, the man sneers abit at the drow. What do you need son? Make it snappy, I've work to do. He motions through at his desk across the room, papers thrown everywhere.

OOC: Im not really sure what you guys want to do with the Items. As far as XP and hero points goes, Buzz will need to give that out I think. Im not sure what you've earned from his last module. I figured he'd already given it out really. I'll get in contact with him.

Tuesday April 27th, 2010 7:56:49 PM

Vauhwyt's "Wowsy" changes into a gasp and a glare when she hears that some of the items are made in Izen. She sees that Malgant is confused.

"Let me clarify, dear friends," she says. "Vorelle and I come from Dirt City, so we know something of Izen. In fact, Izen is a land of humanoids and evilkin, from the orc riders in the west to the trolls near the eaves of the forest in the northeast. To the ... tribes of ... goblins ... everywhere else."

She shudders and composes herself. "It is not a land of potent mages."

"But there is one necromancer strong enough to create the magic we see here before us. That this stuff comes from the undead is a hint as well. The only mage in Izen who could make magic of this potency is the Master of Mount Bone."

"Twice he assaulted Dirt City in living memory. The first time he was repulsed by Valdor Dragonstone. The second time ..." Vauhwyt looks grim. "Suffice to say I have blotted out the memory of that."

[OOC: We were just about to wage that war when the Dirt City campaign ended. I have assumed that it was in that second war that the Dirt City group came to its end, and in which Vauwhyt became a Grim, maybe in payment to Gargul for a death and raise in that war. I've also assumed that the necromancer was thrown back, and that Dirt City is still ruled by the new prince, Liam Kent, IIRC.]

"Clearly, if this is from Izen, and if it was worn by some new undead warrior lich, then it comes from Mount Bone."

[OOC: As I was saying, as soon as we get the xp totals for this just-finished adventure, we can figure out how to divide the loot equitably.]

Tuesday April 27th, 2010 11:13:19 PM

"If it's from Izen," Vorelle echoes Vauhwyt. "It could just be a similar style, But I agree it's a worry."

She examines the assembled loot. "A folding boat could come in very handy," she muses.

The minotaurs don't weild Long Swords and wear human sized armor. The weild bastard swords, great axes, warhammers and the like. Armor for a minotaur is a great amount of steel son. Easiest way to do it, and how it has been done in the past is total what we have, take out for expenses and then divide. If someone wants something specific and it is below their "share" then they can have the item and the balance in gold. If it is over ( like those robes are going to be) .Then we can negotiate. Personally I would like to see our casters with the added caster levels, innate spell resistance, save bonuses, and AC bonus those robes would give them. I would be willing to call that a share.
Whats the answer on using Mending or Make Whole on the shields? Will that repair them? It seems we have a talented smith among us, but we don't know that currently unless someone can volunteer the info. A +4 shield or 2 added to the kitty makes it that much easier to make the robes a single share.
I think we should also keep the boat and the spoon in the group for future use. They can be pretty handy if they are needed,.
Another thing I am not totally clear on is what the GP value limit we are discussing is. I know that there is a value given in the DMG for starting gear for a character above 1st level....is that the table we are talking about? If so, and if most of the rest of the group is near their 'limit' like I am then what happens to the remainder of this gear or gold once we trade it in? It disappears? I fail to see how that would be fair since we fought (and in some cases died) acquiring it.

He continues to ask he questions, trying to work out a plan of action." Vauhwyt, will the pilgrims fleeing Alsidur end up going into Izen as one of their escape routes? If that is the case, then is the tribe you seek in Izen? If it is we can do alot of good in a small area. We could establish a safe place for those pilgrims to settle, grant you vengeance on those that have done you harm and visit this Master of Bone Mountain and deal with him. We have shown our hand in the area before, mayhaps the Wold has us earmarked as the hand of good in that area.

ooc:If Uel is the talented smith Malgant was referring to, Whysper can offer that information to the party.

To Harvey: "I sought you because you seem to have a large supply of unworked materials. I only mention longswords as a unit of measure. Most weapons use approximately that much steel and I can produce any kind of weapon. The measure of time may hold more weight with you, four years of work in a minute. I could just as well walk into a forest and transmute it into a thousand cartloads of masterwork quarterstaffs and the carts to haul them back, but I am not a merchant and I would then have to vend them myself. I would be happy to produce anything you need, but I prefer to work in bulk and weapons are a specialty. I could produce the armor as well as any other smith, but it wouldn't be masterwork.

"I think I would like one of these," Vorelle picks up a Ring of Counterspells. She smiles a little. "I don't cast spells myself, and it would be nice to have some protection. Is there any way to determine whether there's already a spell in there?"

"Also, I think the party should keep the Folding Boat, and that it shouldn't count against anyone's share. It's something we can all use."

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 48+20/48)  d20+4=16 ;

Whysper diverts her eyes from the groups loot. She notices Kage actions, and determines the Uel is also informed of the proceedings. She stands, her small frame paling to that of most of the group, and speaks for all to hear:
"Look, I know Valanthe, Uel and I .. yes, Kage, you too ... are new to the group. We weren't around when all this stuff was won. Truth is though, we've signed on to help you. And we CAN help you" she pauses to look each person - including Bardimion - in the eyes to show her seriousness. "We take issues with the undead very seriously. You might recall we were dealing with a lich when unexpectedly brought to you. Now, if you're saying there are - for lack of a better word - super-lichs out there, then we all have a responsibility to do what we can to stop them. What I'm getting at here, is that if we are to fight and stand as a team, then we must act as a team. Uel and I must be as equipped as you are to defeat this threat. Otherwise, the risk to us is too great." The small half-elf pauses again. She lacks Uel's physical presence to give her confidence, but she knows he is listening through Kage. "We have agreed to put our lives to this cause. Are you willing to put some of your wealth to it? Are you prepared to share these spoils to outfit the group as a whole, to ensure victory in the future?" Whyspers steps down from her metaphorical soapbox to allow someone else to speak.

The shields are repairable with a Make whole spell each; I'll divide the loot your way, it seems much simpler than others I've came across. As far as gold or loot 'dissapearing', I won't do that. If a mistake has been made and you guys end up with a bit more or less than your suppose to, so be it. Unless a PTB steps in, you guys will get whats coming.

As far as full shares or items, I leave that to you guys, and if Val, Whysper and Uel get anything as well. I believe, especially since its being RPed, that the characters should decide that, who am I to say you can't share your loot right?

Also, remember one of the robes are evil. Don't believe that will work out to well; will it?

"Whysper has a point. Undead are quite dangerous and the right gear can mean victory or death." Valanthe pulls Gargul's Fist from her belt. Turning the fist shaped warhammer slowly so everybody could see the symbol of gargul across the knuckles. "This weapon is enchanted with magics to destroy the undead. It is the only reason I'm alive. If we expect to face more of the warrior liches than I recomend that everybody has some type of weapon to deal with the undead. It won't help any against living necromancers but the living are usually easier to deal with."

" Indeed if we are looking to the survival of the group as a whole, and for success in our future encounters then I think we probably should split this amongst the whole group, new and old. I fought and bled and had to watch helpless when I was only able to save one of my friends at the hands of these undead, were we all a bit more powerful I think the fight would have gone...better. If I am not mistaken, there is a prayer that will restore the two sundered shields. I can ask Imod for such magic in the morning. How then shall we split this up? Determine the catacombs price for all of it less the two utility items of the boat and spoon, and split it evenly so that each may get what they need from the place? That would be easiest, once Aztyr and I have been reimbursed for the expenses we incurred on the mission. Val's point is well spoken. I plan a slightly different route though. By making my weapon Holy to Imod almost all the foes we face would feel the sting of magic in its touch. I would caution though, that many of us, myself included should strengthen our bodies against damage like those two Sons of Dread did. The higher the amount of damage we can withstand the better chance we have of living through their attempts on our lives.( simple translation...raise your constitution)[b] What does everyone else think of that type of split?"

Co-DM Marty--OOC-- Loot Splitting
Thursday April 29th, 2010 11:56:56 PM

OOC: Ok, breakdown time...

+6 Tower Shields: 97,080gp
Keen Bastard Swords- 14,010gp
+1 ROP's- 12,000gp
+2 ROP's- 16,000gp
2 Counter Spell rings- 16,000 (8,000gp each)
+6 Amulet of Health's- 72,000gp (36,000gp each)
2 Robes of Arch Mage- 150,000gp (75K each)
2 beads of force- 6,000gp

Total= 383,090gp;

Divided Among: Malgant, Apollo, Wysper, Vorelle, Valanthe, Uel, Aztyr, Vauwhyt and 4 dragons correct?

31,924gp and 16sp each

So; by not selling the two health amulets, a counter spell ring, and one robe of archmage. The total would come down to; 228,090gp. To actually split among everyone. The way I understand you guys want this done, is to split this total, what is actually sold at the catacombs, with everyone who didn't take a item. Meaning; Vorelle, Valanthe, Uel, Vauwhyt and the dragons would each get:: 28511gp 25sp

I hate math, Always get things Mixed up in Hook City too when treasure is divided, I just pray my DM an fellow players arn't cheating lol :)

[OOC: I guess I get to answer my own question. From my reading of the description in the DMG, it would seem that an Identify spell would be able to determine whether a spell was currently cast into the Ring of Spell Storing. YMMV, of course; the rule could be interpreted otherwise. So, what I would like is either a determination of what spell has been cast into the ring, or a determination that no spell is currently in the ring, or official word from the DM that we have no way of knowing the answer to that question.]

"If they are to be part of the group," Vorelle says of the newcomers, "then I think it would be wise to let them outfit themselves as we do. I think they should each have a full share."

OOC
UM...NO
You forgot the armor, you left out most of the counterspell rings, there are 6 @ 4000 apiece, and since we are spreading the split thinner I do kinda have a problem with a 75000 gp share and the rest of the group getting less than 30000 gp. I need to get ready for work so I can't post the list of actual totals right now but when you sell it all and split it it comes closer to 45000 per person. If the catacombs had limited quantities of anything rare like the robes I would have to say let the robes go as shares. They are not limited in any way though. People can purchase whatever they want with their share. It solves questions like "what spells are in the rings " which I would want to know too, and is fair to everyone. Comments?

Vauhwyt looks over the loot. "You know," she says, "I used to work in the Catacombs. So let me have a peek at everything and I'll give you a good guess of how to split it up, fair and squarre."

"And you know, I think the impulse to share with everybody is a great idea. Let's be a team and be generous!"

She starts to look it all over. "But we need to open this book and look inside, without setting off any traps!"

[OOC: Sorry I've been awol. Real life, blah blah blah. But I'll do some math right now and make another post within the hour.]

Vauhwyt cogitates and makes notes.

[OOC: You seem to have valued the +1 keen bastard swords at 2335 each; should be 8335 each. Rings of Counterspells are 4000 each, not 8000 each, but we have 6, not 2.

Here is all the math. Please do check. I will e-mail the spreadsheet too.

After doing the math, I calculate each share should be worth 38365 gp each.

So it is easy enough to divide the loot into 40,000 gp piles. I do that below.]

LOOT PILES

Vauhwyt looks at her notes and divides the loot into 12 piles. It goes pretty well, but at the end she is left holding the spoon. She frowns. She reaches into her purse, pulls out her personal wealth, and announces loudly, "I am selling this spoon to myself for 4,860 gold, exactly what the Catacombs will pay me." Then she puts 405 gp on every pile. She puts a note on every pile too.

But can we get full value for the robes? That and the value/contents of the spell book are the big outstanding questions. Can the dragons open the book? What if we look at it with the funky machine?

Moderate Fortification, AC 27, 92/92 hp Malgant

Why wouldn't we get full value? Is there a catacomb thing I don't understand at work here? If there is, then why? We didn't face nerfed robes we faced them at full value. Just asking. Also Cayzle can you send me info on how to create a Legacy Item? I remember being able to read it once, but now I can't. I have an idea and once I look the rules over to try and balance it I'll ping it off you. It is along the lines of what we were talking about but a little different.

Consider also that the spellbook is usable by Uel. I know I didn't really contribute much to the quest, but it's value won't depreciate and it could simply be kept as party loot while Uel uses it to the party's benefit. Once he's copied the spells into his own books it can be sold for just as much and the party will still have the added strength of those spells. Spellbooks are a special treasure. Even the robes don't entice me like the book does.

Vauhwyt flinches a little when Mal mentions her vengeance. "Well, my friend, honestly, the Merciful Lady to whom I am devoted has let me know very clearly that I am not ready for that yet. Maybe in a year or five. I am patient. Now please, let us not talk about it."

"We have two other items on our plate. Three, really. Here are my thoughts."

"One, there are refugees coming out of Aisildurr. If they are few, we can make a home for them and keep them safe. If they are many, we may need to find them a home, and the best answer then is likely by ship to Dirt City. We can arrange for that."

"But we have no home ourselves, and I for one am tired of being a wandererr. Here is my idea:"

"Let's find a small bay on the eastern shore of Blackbird Lake, in relatively shallow water, within sight of Blackbird Forest. Maybe as close as 100 feet from shore. There we sink stone pilings -- created with my new Wall fo Stone spell -- into the mud, down to the bedrock. We can create stone flooring on the piers, and stone buildings on the flooring. We can make a whole village. It will be a home for those who need one, and a refuge for us."

"Thoughts?"

"Then we can turn our attention to the Sons of Dread."

Moderate Fortification, AC 27, 92/92 hp Malgant

" An admirable plan. What is the political climate there? Is that part of Alsidur and will the tyrant priests of Ga'al find us to be a ....thorn in their side? Also, if the Sons of Dread decide to target us would it be wise to have a population around us that they can harm? I like the plan. Imod knows that I have been a wanderer of the Wold and not by choice. Having somewhere that I helped make be a safe haven for those who have nowhere else is appealing, I just fear for their safety. Also it is my understanding that a wall of stone needs to be anchored to stone in order to be created. Your plan would work, but we would need to start at the bedrock and work upward. Being on a lake would also allow us to keep that gnomish contraption at hand in case we needed it."

It is Vauhwyt's standard proceedure to cast Detect Scrying every day. But I see it is not in my header. So if needed, she casts it right now, before saying any more.

Spell Fail 15% = ok.

"Yeah," says Vauhwyt, "The ideal would be to get a druid to tell us the lay of the land. Where the bedrock was close enough to the surface, say, and away from any volcanoes or places earthquakes are likely. Failing that, and with Nebin gone, I guess that's the case, we could buy a ranger scroll of commune with nature and I could probably read it with UMD."

"I agree that the greatest danger would be that the place or its folk could be used against us. I have some ideas on that."

"First, I always have Detect Scrying up."

"Second, we buy a couple eversmoking bottles and the ranger's Commune With Nature. And a couple potions or scrolls of water breathing. Or you can cast that, right? And maybe a scroll or two of move earth. I'd like one of those Vedik's Headbands too."

"We meet at the shore of Blackbird Lake. We use our gnome boat or our folding boat or both. We uncork the bottles, cast a deeper darkness or two, and set off."

"The idea is if we are scried, I'll know about it, and even if we are, between the deeper darkness and the smoking bottles, no scryer will be able to get enough of a fix to even find us."

"Near the eastern shore, I read the scroll and figure out the best place for a village. Use water breathe to go down down down. Move earth to get to the bedrock. Cast several walls of rock to make pilings. Maybe Uel can Fabricate some too, or cast Wall of Stone too."

"It might take a few days, but we should be able to get some solid pilings in place. Then more castings of Wall of Stone to make the foundation of the village, maybe ten feet above the lake surface."

"Okay, now we are ready to help refugees. First, find some. Cast Detect Good. Any non-good ones we direct to Dirt City. Good ones we offer refuge. We lay out the deal so they know what they are getting into. We blindfold them and either teleport or boat them to the village. They make a new home for themselves."

"Naturally, there would be fishing. We could teleport or create or move earth for garden plots. We would have to see who we can attract."

"We need defenses. We could use darkness and eversmoking bottles. We might be able to get some permanent illusions."

"We could make one or two of the pilings hollow, pump out the water, put in stairs, and disintegrate out chambers in the bedrock."

"My old friend Rose had a spell to make an area warm or cold. We could use that."

"We would want to consecrate and sanctify the heck out of the entire thing."

"We could use glyphs too."

"You know who would be an ideal full-time resident and mayor? Our pal Nebin. I got the idea he did not want to be an adventurer. But he would be great at keep the place safe, providing for the people, summoning water elementals if enemy boats came near, doing interesting research in Blackbird Forest."

"We should try to find out where he went and ask him."

[OOC: Nebin would make a great NPC mayor! Just sayin'!]

Vauhwyt looks at Bardamion. "Good sirr," she asks, "How much does that machine of yours say the robes of the archmage are worth? Or even better, relying on your expertise, what do you think we could get for them at market, with the caveat that we would not sell to evil buyers or those who supply such folk?"

"And can you open this magic book? Is there any chance of a curse or magical protection on it, according to your machine?"

[OOC: Yup, we are kinda waiting on these questions. There's nothing posted on the Catacombs Staff Board.]

==========

Meanwhile, Vauhwyt is excited with her friends' reactions to her idea. She has some comments.

To Mal she says, "Aisildur claims both Blackbird Lake and Blackbird Forest. [OOC, take a look at this map.] Acid City is on the south. Lord Agor rules the west coast. If the lake is a clockface, then the settles lands run from Abderas at 4 o'clock around to Allenport at 11 o'clock. The fort at Abus at 1 o'clock is not a worry -- my understanding is that either they are fighting the Culverwood for lumber -- always a bad idea -- or hunkering down, just ot maintain the claim. Between 2 and 3 o'clock on the map, the Forest butts up against the lake, and no one lives there at all! Except Priscilla the witch, a friend from the old days."

"So where can we take these refugees? One of the islands in Blackbird Lake might work, but they tend to sink and rise, so that's a problem. We have to get them out of Aisildur. We can't settle them in the forest -- it is too dangerous. The only other places are in Izen or Dirt City, and that's far away."

"But if we settle right next to the Forest, but in the Lake, we can be safe from the magic of the woods and yet shelter near it, where no one goes."

[OOC: One reason I LOVE the idea of a village on the lake, rather like Laketown in the Hobbit, is that it gives new meaning to the game ... which is called "Blackbird Lake," after all. Maybe this is why!]

Vauhwyt nods at what Valanthe has to say. "Yes, we need an architect, absolutely. Someone we can teleport in to do the job, then teleport out, hopefully someone who won't know where he is, and who we can trust to keep mum. Dwarves are good, but does it have to be a dwarf? Maybe the Cloudprance family can recommend someone."

"Vorelle, you are right, we do need to live carefully. We need to keep secret, so we need to rely on Rose's spell, not on any fire. Smoke could give us away. We need to take care of our wastes in ways that do not foul our own water, and in ways that will not offend the forest. Maybe we can use walls of stone to make a few composting ponds, that drain into the lake only after being purified and cleaned. Maybe we can find species of fish and snails and things that would do well in such ponds."

"For 1,440 gp, we could give our master of sewers a Purify Food and Drink Tattoo, so he could purify four cubic feet of people-waste per day. If everyone uses chamberpots, and the sewermaster collects it all, well, how many cubic feet of it would a village of 100 people make a day, say? More than four cubic feet? Maybe we give two people tattoos and handle eight cubic feet a day. Then we put the resultant purified stuff into gardens or composting pools and we are all set."

"And we have to be careful about food. Of course, Mal can feed 36 people per day per casting of Create Food and Water. And we will have to lay in supplies of hardtack and such. But we have an advantage ... we can make darn sure there are no rats or mice or vermin in our town, since we will be creating it de novo, from the lakebed up."

"I do not think the entire lake was affected by the acid blight, Mal. Just the part near Acid City. That would be like 100 to 200 miles away from our village. And we fixed that, so I bet it is not a problem now."

"What do you guys think? A village built on stone pilings and caissons. Next to a magic forest where no one goes. Concealed by secrecy and magic."

"I would love to have Nebin to help us as a mayor of sorts. We could use a person of his talents."

[OOC: We will need a castellan or cohort of some kind to take care of things while we are not there. Any other ideas?]

Malgant listens to Vauhwyt, genuinely impressed. She apparently has given this a great deal of thought and is planning on a level Malgant was almost sure her chaotic nature would never allow. He liked this Vauhwyt. He hoped that this focus would keep her from her thoughts of revenge and salve the wounds she still carried despite Ringalingling's healing. He didn't love the idea of creating food, since it would allow him to do precious little else, including shaping the stone that was created by the other casters and himself via wall of stone. He wasn't sure that secrecy would protect this place forever, but it would provide the town time to establish itself and learn to protect itself. This was a good idea.
" You realize the town would not be able to remain secret forever. However the plans you are laying out should provide it the time it needs to establish itself and be ready for whatever happens when it does become common knowledge. I stand with you in making this happen. Imod knows there are few enough safe places in the Wold. making another one and defending it is an admirable idea and worth our time to accomplish. I think Nebin would be a huge asset to this endeavor. He would be quite capable of negotiating with the forest and any other plant life in the area. His mastery of summoning would likely allow the building to proceed much faster and he would be in his element If it came to defending the place. In the morning, in addition to making the shields whole I can contact him and see if he will speak to us about it."

while you are taking notes on who would like what I could use one of the +2 protection rings and a ring of counterspells. Beyond that what I need mainly is cash to rearm and armor Malgant. I have changed his focus a little in light of our dealings with the dread and need to adjust his gear for it.

Monday May 3rd, 2010 10:25:49 PM

As Vauhwyt goes on and on about creating a town on the water, Aztyr sort of loses focus and then finally makes a comment.
"Yep, go ahead and creat a town make out of conjured stone. It'll all be one piece of rock from the way the spell was explained to me. and then you get one irritated mage and he promptly casts Disintergrate and watch most of the village fall into the water. Not to rain on your parade, but....

She shrugs and then just remains quiet.

"I don't think it works like that." Vauhwyt says. "You can't disintegrate an entire building. Just a part of it."

[OOC: Sorry to drone on. Feel free to ignore me or whatever! Maybe we should take an out of character vote on what to do next. If we agree OOC to do this, Vauhwyt won't mind dragging the whole party along for the ride!]

Co-DM Marty--OOC-- Loot Splitting
Monday May 3rd, 2010 11:08:49 PM

First off; Im sorry. RL has been super crazy. Got into the logging buisness in the last few days, and Waffle house is working my ass off still as well... Secondly; Im having to cut back on some things in the Wold Gold Tap and Blood Pack. I'll still DM you guys and play in Hook City. Now, to buisness.

No one was detected trying to scry anyone in the group.

Bardimion uses his device once again on the two robes, If sold for full value, just over 70,000gp (75000gp). Although who buys stuff for market price anymore?

From then on the disguised dragon sets back and listens to the conversation about a town, built by magic, on a lake. After a while he gives his professinal opinion.

I think and Elven arctitech is what you need my friends, your dealing with magic and things not of this natural world. The dwarves could help with the Woldian Stone, surely. But The elves could do a good job as well, plus give advice and help with anything non-mundane.

He shurgs his shoulders abit, A laketown? What if the lake floods? Have you thought this through? Making another rash decision are we? Surly you can cast the spells you'll need more than once a day right?

OOC: As far as this lake town goes, Im for it. I think its a really cool idea.

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 48+20/48)
Monday May 3rd, 2010 11:27:41 PM

Whysper sits back down, happy that her suggestion for splitting the loot wasn't shot down by the rest of the group. The idea of creating a new town intrigues her. Every town requires thieves and a black market - that's just how economies work. What better way to start her own guild, than to play a part in the forming of the community. But then again, the group had powerful enemies. Would those enemies wait? Would it be better to go after them, rather than wait to be hunted down?

Valanthe AC 32/ 25 vs intangible HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Monday May 3rd, 2010 11:30:47 PM

"I do have a different perspective on things. Other people can handle the logistics of where to put all the refugees. It is a big problem and one that needs addressing but are we doing the most good by focusing on the building of a town? I think we would be doing the most good by tracking down whoever is creating the warrior liches. That is also a big problem and one that has far fewer qualified people to do so. I doubt anybody except us are aware of the issue and are willing to do something about it."

Appolo
Tuesday May 4th, 2010 12:29:39 PM

Appolo puts in his two cents"I say we take our gold and go on vacation.Let's go to Platue City and enjoy ourselves for awhile.Let the Wold get by without us.As far as our enemies go well we can let them find us,if they really want to get thier heads handed to them."

Vauhwyt and Mookie (Detect Scrying)
Tuesday May 4th, 2010 6:27:42 PM

Vauhwyt laughs. "Maybe it is because Appolo and I just came back from the dead, but I kind of appreciate what he is saying. I'd like to take a few days to train and unwind. And I'd like to move forward on building a village that would be a good home for us and a place to send refugees."

The liontaur does a quick tally of what people have been saying about the idea of building a village on Blackbird Lake.

Valanthe said it was a good plan, but we need an architect to do it right.

Vorelle likes the idea of a village for refugees, but does not seem to be comfortable with putting it on stone pilings over water. Too elaborate, too magical.

Mal says that making a new safe place in the Wold is an admirable goal, one worth pursuing.

Aztyr thinks that one Disintegrate Spell would topple most of the village. Too risky!

Whysper seems encouraging, but undecided and uncertain.

Uel and Appolo have not weighed in on the idea yet.

[OOC: The reluctant ones are Vorelle and Aztyr. Is that just in character, or OOC too? Want to suggest something else? A better location for a village? Or forget that and just find a home for ourselves? Or just stay shiftless wanderers? Or let it all go for now and focus on the liches? Appolo, Uel, wanna weigh in? Alternately, what could we agree on that would help convince your characters or otherwise get them on board?]

Vauhwyt and Mookie (Detect Scrying)
Tuesday May 4th, 2010 6:35:37 PM

Vauhwyt smiles at Bardamion. "Thank you for that excellent suggestion. Can you recommend an elven architect who might be interested?"

"I have thought that if we build all the buildings two levels high, with the first level with lots of open window spaces and doorways, then any water rising would flood them but leave the upper level untouched. We could use the lower level for the storage of things that are water-tight or not vulnerable to water damage."

"I can cast three walls of stone per day. It should suffice. Uel can fabricate us quite a bit in a day. Nebbin, if we recruit him, can do even more. Mal can shape stone as well. I think we can do the work pretty darn fast."

Aztyr AC 21 (AC 12/20 w Mage Armor+Shield - HP 98/98) & Jynx (AC 20 - HP 49/49)
Tuesday May 4th, 2010 7:41:53 PM

OOC: I like the idea out of character, but Aztyr thinks too much planning is based on mage.

IC:

"Vauhwyt, I think you missunderstand what I mean. With Disintegrate, a single object up to a few cubic feet is just plane gone. What it sounds like is to build a structure out of stone. It's one piece and if someone zapped tow or three of the pilons you want to use, the rest may not be supported because it weigh's too much. Just think for a minute, Take a table, load 4 or 5 hundred pounds of gear on it, then kick one of it's legs away. What happens?
Understand my fears now? It's not that I don't want a place to feel safe, it's just dangerous to rely on so much magic to make the place we want. Now, if you wanted to make a solid pedistal under the full area then it wouldn't be quite so risky."

" If your idea were taken a step farther and the city were floating, say on a deck made of wood, it would rise with flood waters. I could be anchored to the lake bed with pulleys and chains, allowing for the rise of the lake, but keeping it in one place. Could it be made of stone and then magically transmuted into wood, at least the platform/base? This would also solve Aztyr's concern of a few well placed disintegrate spells taking out the supports."

Stretching, Malgant stands up." For once Appolo old boy, you have the right idea, at least for tonight. I have made arrangements for myself to meet Gorenthall tonight and catch up on current events over a few taverns full of alcohol. I need to get cleaned up and make ready for that outing. Any of the rest of you are welcome to join us, though he does not speak common and does not suffer fools, other than myself and others he knows well already, moreso when he has had a few dozen drinks. Val, my dear, you are of course welcome to come along and keep me out of trouble, if you can." Malgant then heads off in search of a hot bath before leaving to meet his old friend.

Vauhwyt and Mookie (Detect Scrying)
Tuesday May 4th, 2010 11:46:28 PM

Vauhwyt grins at the comments from Aztyr and Mal. "These are great ideas!" she exclaims. "Yes, we should have one part of the village be elevated on stone pilings that rise from the lakebed foundation, AND a part of the village afloat on pontoons!"

"We should have the village be in parts, say four at first, so that toppling one part would not bring down the others. Each part would have bridges to the bordering parts. If we expand in the future, we just add more separate parts joined by a bridge."

"We will need wood, but we can never take it from Blackbird Forest. However, I have some ideas for using shrink item spells to make stuff, like logs, smaller, then using summoned light archons to teleport the stuff to the site. They have greater teleport, you know, but only for themselves and a light load. I can summon them."

"The more we talk and discuss it, the better the whole plan gets!"

Appolo

Appolo has been listening to the othewrs discuss buildinga town out of nothing and decides to put his two cents worth in"Who Hold on here folks. We don't have the resources or time for buildinga town out of scratch.Even with magical assistance it will take quite abit of time and be hugely expensive. Not to mention the fact that if we bring theses people there we'll have ro organize them and lead them.Is this the kind of commitment you wish to make.Plus the fact maybe these people won't want to live so close to Asidilur.Let's just goan vacation and once we run out of money we can go back to monster hunting.Liches,Ogre Giants whatever big nasties are out there."

Moderate Fortification, AC 27, 92/92 hp Malgant
Wednesday May 5th, 2010 9:20:37 PM

Malgant pauses on his way out of the room. Appolo speaks!! Turning the Minotaur tries to deflect Appolo's negative outlook on helping those in need."Make no mistake Appolo, this course of action will be work. If you are once again planning to let us do it while you go get stabbed in the throat then I think you should rethink your plan. These people have been given a terrible deal in order to keep their souls. You know better than I do what a Heartseed does to a person. You said NO! to that once already. You stood up and stopped them from implanting other people with Heartseeds. You destroyed their means to produce the Heartseeds too. What has changed? Do you not care about those that are not Appolo anymore? Would you let these people wander into Gods knows what as they flee tyranny that demands that they give up their soul in order to stay where they are? If you have become that cold and uncaring about others then I think you should take your share and go. We need to work together and work hard if we are going to make this group work. Almost everyone else here is doing that. Offering suggestions. Offering encouragement. Even offering up what they see as flaws in the plan to bring others around to making the plan better. You are offering selfish hedonism. All about Appolo, all the time. Think it over. Go have a few drinks. If you still don't like helping others when you wake up tomorrow then that's ok. Take your share and live the life you want to live. The rest of us sound like we are planning a future of helping others who cannot help themselves. If that isn't your path, then so be it. Not everyone is cut out for heroics. You were once, but something has changed . Be who you need to be to be happy. If that doesn't include us, I understand and wish you the best. "
Malgant waits for Appolo to respond before leaving to take that bath.

Vauhwyt and Mookie (Detect Scrying)
Wednesday May 5th, 2010 10:52:52 PM

Vauhwyt hopes Appolo didn't really mean it about abandoning the refugees. Maybe he thought it was just about making a keep for ourselves. Really, it is to give these people some shelter.

But the liontaur has done some thinking about it.

"If we find a place pretty close to shore, with a depth from water surface to bedrock underneath of about 40 to 50 feet, then I am convinced I can make a 20-ft-by-20-ft platform on four pilings in two days. That's 200 square feet per day."

"Now, assume we are having floating pontoons as well, at a four-to-one ratio of wood area to stone area. That's 800 square ft of platforms per day. Call it 1,000 square feet of area per day. Let's say each person needs a 10x10 ft space to live. That's 10 people per day. So in a month of work, we can make a place that will be home to 300 people."

[OOC: The population density of Mumbai is 33 sq ft per person. I'm proposing 100 sq ft per person.]

"Now, if we have thousands of refugees, 300 per month is not very good. If we have dozens or hundreds, we can help a lot."

[OOC: I'm assuming three walls of stone per day. If we can increase that number, it would help a whole lot. Can Uel cast Wall of Stone? Maybe we could as much as double production. with his help.]

==========

Some interesting info for comparisons:

This century, the differences between the record high and low monthly mean lake levels were: Superior 3.8 feet (1.2 meters); Michigan and Huron 6.2 feet (1.9 meters); Erie 6.0 feet (1.8 meters); and Ontario 6.5 feet (2.0 meters).

Short-term water level changes are more dramatic and can last minutes or hours. Passing weather systems and wind shifts cause fluctuations in lake level, called seiches, which can raise lake levels from 6 inches to more that 1 foot for several minutes. Storm surges can temporarily raise lake levels several feet on the open coast and 5 feet in bays, for a few hours. At the eastern end of Lake Erie storm surges up to 8 feet have been recorded, along with a similar drop in water level at the opposite end of the lake.

By surface area, Blackbird Lake is a little larger than Lake Erie and about half the size of Lake Michigan, I guesstimate. I actually think that I overguesstimated, so I'd put it pretty close to Lake Erie.

We have no idea how deep Blackbird Lake is. The average depth of Lake Erie is 62 feet; the average depth of Lake Michigan is 279 feet.

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 48+20/48)
Wednesday May 5th, 2010 11:11:00 PM

Trying to act the diplomat, Whysper again weighs in to the discussions "Not a bad plan Vauhwyt. But I do see Apollo's point in regards to delays and the threat to both us and the refugees. You know, with a wand, you might get your construction done in a day. It'd be expensive, but it means these people wouldn't have to wait. Furthermore, knowing they were safe would mean we could deal with the undead threat head-on, as opposed to waiting for them to strike first. In terms of leading these refugees, they probably already have some unofficial leader of the group already - some elder or person of respect. Until someone is officially appointed to lead them, that person should continue the role."

OOC: Hmm... wonder if it's possible to turn an entire lake into holy water for added protection :)

Valanthe AC 32/ 25 vs intangible HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Wednesday May 5th, 2010 11:25:50 PM

Valanthe understands all too well why Malgant is angry. Appolo's uncaring attitude is what drove her away in the first place. Except Malgant doesn't understand a pirate and probably never will. It's a simple philosiphy of enjoy today because tomarrow you may be dead. Valanthe steps between Malgant and Appolo, fixing a hard gaze upon both of them.

"Malgant take breath. Appolo think before you speak. These aren't the pirates. They pretty much threw us out."

Once she was sure that she wasn't going to have to smack both of them did she move away. Valanthe took a deep breath and put a gauntleted hand against her head. "This idea of helping the people is noble and good, but the whole picture needs to be looked at. I still think our efforts are best suited to Izen and the creator of the warrior liches. If everybody wants to build a village then I will support the decision. I just want to point out some things that only Appolo is aware of. It is true that we survived a suicide mission to destroy the heartseed tree. Which was created by a god. We don't know if they can't make more. I would have to assume that we only slowed down the heartseed production. You don't know what its like to go to war with the followers of Ga'al. Because that is exactly what it will be.... war. Right now Appolo and I have slipped away. If we do this they will find us again. Their priests weild dark magics that are very potent and with them comes the Quad."

With the mention of the Quad Valanthe pauses. Thinking back to past battles and how to properly express herself. "The right words are hard to find. In all of my travels I haven't found an adversary like the Quad. As you may expect they are a group of four warriors. They train together intensely but its more than that. They react with instinct and coordination. Their strength is of one. If we do this then we will still have the attention of the Sons of Dread and hunting for artifacts for the Cloudprance family. All I'm saying is don't make an emotional judgement. Seriously think about this and what it means. Are you ready to face a foe that can turn your best friend into your worst enemy? Don't mistake these words of caution for fear. Because I would love another chance to put a hurting on those foolish enough to follow Ga'al. The ones that willingly accept a heartseed out of misguided faith. I'm not trying to preach or change what your heart tells you is right. Only to do my best to give you a full picture of what may very well be in store."

Uel awaits the blacksmith's decision regarding his services while, elsewhere, Kage listens intently to the plans for the village. It seems that Kage has a few things to say, but his mouth simply isn't shaped for it.

Vorelle
Thursday May 6th, 2010 1:06:06 AM

[In character, Vorelle would like to see the new town being in better harmony with nature than what is currently being proposed. Out of character, as a player whose character has no magical ability whatsoever, I am less than enthused by plans that involve casting lots and lots and lots of spells and not doing anything else. Because that kind of means I don't get to play. Both of us think that perhaps a gaggle of adventurers is not what you want when planning and building a town. :)]

"Maybe we should ask them what they would like," Vorelle says. "Maybe they'd rather live on the lake where they'd be harder to get to. Or maybe they'd rather live on the shore so they could have real farms."

Appolo
Thursday May 6th, 2010 2:26:56 AM

Appolo replies"Look it's not that I don't want to help. It's just that buildinga colony like this.Takes alot of time and effort. We'll needa plan and we'll need to know how many people we are talking about.I'm not saying we shouldn't do it or can't do it.I'm just well it takes alot more commitment then retrieving lost artifacts or going after a specific person or target..If we commit to building this colony for refugees,we can't be trapesing around looking for artifacts or chasing monsters. We'll have to stay put for at least year to make sure the colony gets established properly. The last time.Myself and a group I was with took on such an undertaking,we didn't finish the job.The result of not finishing said job, are said refugees. So if we decide to do this then we will need to be completely committed to it and we will need help."

Vauhwyt and Mookie (Detect Scrying)
Thursday May 6th, 2010 7:48:41 AM

Vauhwyt grins. "Well, I'm learning more all the time, and one of the things I just learned is to be more cool about things, and maybe not so impulsive. So why don't we all take a day or two to think about it. Let's set aside the loot that folks have expressed an interest in and sell the rest of it at the Catacombs."

She bows slightly to the dragons present. "Unless the Cloud-Prance family wants the loot, at 90 percent of market rates? The same as the Catacombs? We should give you all the right to first refusal, as a courtesy, at least."

"Why don't we reconvene this evening. Besides, I want Uel here to voice an opinion too."

DM Questions Can we get that spell book opened and read? Does the Cloud-Prance family want to buy the loot we don't want? Or to stake a claim to any of it as their share?

Ashira
Thursday May 6th, 2010 11:00:38 AM

The door to tavern opens and a familiar figure (at least familiar to some) strides through. For those that care to take notice and know her, it is non other than that old Pirate of Jack, Ashira. She stands adorned in her traditional mithril plate armor which to the trained eye has obviously been altered to allow for more room in the midsection. Her usual emerald complexion is a bit paler than before as if she hasn't seen enough time out of doors. It's true, her arm muscles are not quite so well cut and defined as in the past, but still look quite capable of wielding her swords.

For those who have never met the half aquatic elf, an interesting sight meets their wandering gaze... Standing a full 6' tall, with short cropped dark blue hair, and greenish gray complexion, and a slightly stocky build, the half-elf is obviously a warrior by trade. Her wardrobe is composed of black pants, Mithral Breast plate armor (black with blue trim), a gray cloak with interwoven blue threads held in place by a darkwood and ivory brooch in the shape of a hammerhead shark, and a long and shortsword sheathed on either side. A massive scar with serrated edges peaks out from under the armor on her left arm. On top of her armor lies a necklace with twined strands of seaweed and a piece of coral carved intricately into the shape of a fish dangling from it. Her walk is definitely un-feminine, with a pronounced swagger as you would expect to see from one who had lived most of their life aboard a ship.

Hands on armored hips, the ranger stands in the doorway scanning and searching the crowd for faces. Faces she knows that are here, faces she has missed for so long now.

Appolo
Thursday May 6th, 2010 12:48:55 PM

Appolo sees Ashita and smiles"Well I'll be.Hey Val.It's Ashira."He says as he walks toward his old friend."Ashita.What are you doing here.Last time I saw you.You were settling down with Rigging and going to bea fishemans wife or something."Appolo is clearly happy to seeAshira but she can tell he is also suspicious."Come on in and I'll introduce you to the others."

Ashira
Thursday May 6th, 2010 1:39:46 PM

The ranger grins from ear to ear when she sees her little brother Appolo. She laughs at his greeting, but there is a sorrow and perhaps mild anger in her eyes. "Yeah, ummm....that whole stick around town and cook dinner while Rigging played Emperor for the day didn't really work out so well for me. He's still over there..." she smiles but there is a small sigh. "I just needed to get back to what I do best."

And then...she sees that flicker in his eyes...the reservation...and she knows. Her hands go instinctively to her chest...to where *it* was...and she understands. "Right then...first things first. You guys got some mages and priests to check me out? Just to make sure...you know." She smiles at Appolo, all too understand of his suspicions.

Vauhwyt and Mookie (Detect Scrying)
Thursday May 6th, 2010 5:58:47 PM

Vauhwyt has gone out to the Catacombs and gone shopping. [OOC: I'm assuming her purchases are complete, even though the CC trips are not done yet.]

While she is out, she also takes a look around for Uel. She figures it is not hard to find one such as him in a town of minotaurs. When she finds him, she briefs him on goings on and plans, trying not to sound too enthusiastic about her own ideas. She urges him to come back with her. [OOC: Our DM is way busy and may not get back to you anytime soon. Come on back and resolve your fabrication stuff later. We should have you chatting, and it must be boring for you otherwise!]

When she returns, the first thing she sees is Ashira and Appolo!

"WOWSY!" she shouts! "Ashira!"

After the hugging is done, Vauhwyt takes a good look at her old friend. "I think I haven't seen you in real life since that time we fought cultists on that sinking island in Blackbird Lake! Boy it has been too long!"

Vauhwyt is clearly older, and the marks of having died once or twice are pretty obvious to anyone who knows her well. Her face has a line or two that was not there in her youth. Is that a strand of white in her auburn mane? But on the other hand, she looks renewed! No scars, no signs of long-ago wounds. Even her current friends may be surprised at her new look. She's less ... spikey! Her spiked chain is gone. Her spiked gauntlet is gone. Though she still has her armor spikes. She's sporting a new headband that keeps her mane swept back -- a real change, since she always used to wear her hair long and falling forward over one side of her head. She has a new short sword and a new mithril buckler, too.

"Come on you two! Vorelle is around here somewherre, and we have to introduce you to everyone else!"

"Oh, and you may have to check your weapons at the desk. And ignore the decor in herre -- yeah it is gross, but it's a long story, and not worth fussing about!"

Mookie pokes his head out of Vauhwyt's belt pouch. "What's all the hub-bub! Jeezum Crow! Can't a bird sleep around here?"

The liontaur tells her familiar, "Hush, Mookie."

Aztyr, having seen that the group was basicly done for now, heads towards the Catacombs, she has some small business dealings to get done there. She has a few ideas of items she wants to pick up. She also wants to ask Malgant if he'll cast a few simple spells for her as well in the morning.
"I'm headed to the Catacombs and to a couple of shops near there, anyone want to travel with me? If I remember correctly the last time we were in a city, some of us were approached by some people whom were probably working at odds with our eventual goals."

Valanthe AC 32/ 25 vs intangible HP 122 / 122, Light Fortifacation
Thursday May 6th, 2010 10:17:34 PM

Valanthe was about to say that Appolo made some good points when Ashira walked through the door. She feels a rush of things but the most is shock. Valanthe didn't expect to see her again for many a year. The shock turns into joy and the elven warrior almost squeals like a maiden.

Valanthe is exotic, even for an elf. Her body is more muscular than lithe body of her race.

Valanthe runs over and gives Ashira a crushing hug, once Vauhwyt gets done with hers. "It is good to see you sister. I see that the easy life has made you soft. Are you sure your up to life on the road again? We could always use some help carrying the gear." She says with a grin on her face. It was good natured ribbing. Pretty tame compaired to most stuff said on a pirate ship.

"As Vauhwyt said you have to check your weapons at the door. Then we can get a table and catch up. Much has happened since you decided to retire from pirating."

OOC: I agree with Vorelle. First we should actually ask the people what they want. Also unless the building of the village is just a backdrop for a renewed conflict ga'al I would really like to avoid it. I would find it boring. Plus we do have a prior commitment with the Cloudprance family that would make building a city a difficult thing to do

Vauhwyt and Mookie (Detect Scrying)

OOC: Well, if it is only Mal and me who are truly interested -- or maybe Uel too, who knows -- that's not really enough to go for it. But maybe I'll keep the idea on the back burner for another day.

So are we going to ignore this refugee problem? Or send them where? Or convince the local nobles to lift the tax on the non-heartseeded after all?

Vorelle
Thursday May 6th, 2010 11:38:31 PM

"Hello, Ashira. It's good to see you again," says Vorelle, without a hint of her previous stutter.

DM Question: This is the third time I've asked this, and I'd really like an answer. Is there a way of telling whether there is already a spell cast into the Ring of Counterspells? It's okay if you don't know. I'm a DM myself; I get it. :) I'd just like some kind of answer, please.

EX-DM Buzz: Slow Spell was in each ring.

Ashira
Thursday May 6th, 2010 11:59:09 PM

She gladly surrenders her weapons at the desk and joins the others.

Ashira is amazed by her reception, particularly by Val. She looks at Val's "new" form. True, Val has looked like this for what...has it been years? But in the back of her mind, Ashira still remembers her innocent "little" sister. In a brief flashback of a time long ago Ashira remembers a time when things were hard, when alliances were questioned...and then the "gift" of a new body. Looking carefully at her sister as the air is squeezed from her body, Ashira pushes the memory away and lets the sheer joy of the moment fill her soul. She was back with the family and nothing else mattered. Looking at her arms, she laughs. "You know, I might just take you up on that offer...gotta get back into shape somehow!"

Pausing, Ashira shifts her gaze to Vauhwyt and then the stutterless Vorelle. By Ga'al's pimpled hind quarters...how long Have I been out?!! *Everyone has changed!* She hugs those who are comfortable with the action and then joins the table.

"Please, don't let me interrupt. Looks like you were discussing something important...and maybe dangerous...*please* tell me you're planning something dangerous." The half-elf grins mischievously as she flags down someone to bring her an ale.
