Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Friday April 23rd, 2010 5:38:00 PM
OOC: I think it would really be a shame to sell the mithril breast plate. It counts as a light armor because of mithril, so one of the rogues could wear it. It has AC +5, max dex +5, armor ch . pen. -1. That's very good!
Ransy would like one of the bracers (4000 gp) and the (normal) great axe (20 gp).
If Ransy wanted these items it would cost him 3186.86gp of his share of the treasure.
Also, please note that the armor bonus from the Bracers will NOT stack with your armor.
DM Jim
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Friday April 23rd, 2010 6:02:50 PM
OOC: That calculation makes a lot of sense to me, I understand it.
Sorry, didn't realize that the bracers are useless to Ransy. So he'll go for one of the bone necklaces (Amulets of Natural Armor +1) or one of the rings of protection (+1 deflection bonus).
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Friday April 23rd, 2010 6:17:17 PM
It makes sense, however I made the one mistake Jim warned me about. The two personal items (my old armor and Beri's rapier were added into the total. The group part will be 37026.9. We also need to subtract two hundred for identifying the legacy items which we cannot sell. That puts us at 36826.9g.
Just an FYI: By my calculations we each will get approximately 36826.9/7=5260.98g
After the Catacombs Bosk will head over to the WLA and do what is required to join. If allowed he will stay with the others who wish to join for the next two days. (Member must spends at least two full days at a large League outpost to be entitled to 2 extra skill points...)
Almost correct, you forgot about reimbursement. Remember EVERYONE, do not update your gold with this transaction until the Catacombs order actually goes through and is approved. DM Jim
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Friday April 23rd, 2010 6:31:28 PM
Assuming Ransy gets what he wants, it will cost him:
2020 x .9 cat fee = 1818 + 100 identify = 1918/ 7 players = 274 x 6 players reimb. = 1644. 5260.98 - 1644 = 3616.98, of which he will spend 2000 to join the WLA.
So Ransy will be joining Bosk in going to the WLA and spend two days there as well.

OOC: sorry, I have been out of it for two reasons: 1) went to my son's graduation from law school (he is going to be the good kind of lawyer he assures me) 2) his wife also had a baby, my fourth grandchild.

Clerk Jameson -- DM Jim Saturday April 24th, 2010 2:18:19 PM "Huh, what?" The clerk seemed to be thinking of other things and wasn't paying attention when the suggestion was made for the team name, "What was that? Adventurer Bunnies of Justice?"
After choosing a Team Name -- DM Jim Saturday April 24th, 2010 2:22:23 PM
after this brief interlude, I'm sure you're going to want to visit the catacombs, the tower, search for maikill's uncle--all solo things and I don't mind that. But these solo things, other than the catacombs, can turn into mini-adventures which will require me to make a module to turn in. So... think about which Loose End you may want to pursue first and let me know asap--since modules take some time to get approved.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Saturday April 24th, 2010 2:36:09 PM Iron adventurers is fine with me. I should probably also upgrade some of my equipment while we are in town. BTW, I don't remember anyone mentioning this, but we should look into upgrading our shop once we have sold our loot. There aren't many rooms right now, and each 100gp will add a 10x10 room which is enough for 1 adult or 2 children(small).[/i] Turning to Bosk and Ransy [b]I have heard great stories of the members of the WLA, if you are planning on joining up this week I think I will come with you.
Beriothian is planning on spending 2000gp on the WLA, 175gp on MW Studded Leather, 100gp on MW thieves tools, and 335g for a MW crossbow. (Also, he is selling his rapier, old tools, armor, and crossbow) Also, he is setting 100g aside to add a room to the shop.
ooc: ...where is it posted what the different items do? I don't remember seeing where it said bone necklaces have natural armor. Also, is our shop currently nameless, or are we using the old name?
The Catacombs page has the current loot identified.
The shop still has the old name and it has not been opened to the public yet. DM Jim

Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Sunday April 25th, 2010 1:02:57 PM
Ransy: I am okay with the name. But considering what we do next, I propose that some of us go to the WLA, but only for an hour or two, to become members and to ask about mindflayers in general, and Vellinius in particular. I think that Vellinius and his cult cannot be ignored any longer, they'll make victims if we stay 2 days at the WLA. So I think we should search for the cult and for Vellinius as soon as possible. Probably the WLA can give us some useful advice in this matter. That's what I propose!
OOC: that's what I'd like to do now: go after Vellinius and the cult.

Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:12/12 Sunday April 25th, 2010 9:20:27 PM
Valla wants a Ring Of Protection; and wishes to visit the tower for sale. Seeking to learn more about its history in general, and a few particular questions. Who owns/owned it? Why only a single gold? Any repairs need to be done? What was it used for?
Zeoll and his dog d20+4=23 ; Monday April 26th, 2010 7:07:15 AM
Zeoll stays out of the talk of magic items. He has heard too many tales of friendships damaged by treasure. Plus, it is none of his beeswax, in any event.
But the idea of a tower for sale for a single gold piece? There must be a story behind that. In fact, he may have heard such a story [OOC ... bard lore roll 23! Woot!] Zeoll tells Valla anything he has heard about the tower, or similar ones in tales of old.
"If you seek to find out morre, I'll go with you," he adds.

He walks away of Hook City and into Mudtown and from here, disappears inside the ugly belly of the place.
And of Xeron, no one ever heard from.

Sorry to see you leave too... Just me and James left as the original group then....
Moving On -- DM Jim Monday April 26th, 2010 5:33:58 PM
Xeron's sudden exit left a few people speechless, but not Clerk Jameson, "Well, okay, I'll have to remove him from the registration papers. So... Iron Adventurers it is." The clerk makes the necessary changes and also gives the IA's a new Writ of Conveyance. "Please note that this Writ is for all of you and if you're in the city and you do not have access to this Writ, or you are not a citizen, you can be fined. Have a nice day."
Their business concluded, the group exits the admin building in the heart of North Hook and breathe in the unnaturally fresh air. Since the clerk warning was mentioned, anyone going off by themselves could get into trouble if they could not produce their Writ, but several go off in different direction with no indication of where to meet up later.
Valla of course heads to the tower for sale, accompanied by Zeoll as he recounts what little he knows of the place. The tale is a grim one as Valla learns that a family of seven were murdered in the tower and their killer has never been found. When the pair arrive at the tower, they see the real estate agent standing out side it and his demeanor is not a happy one. When Valla inquires about the tower, he is in fact told that a family was murdered within, making the sale of said tower very hard to make. He also lets Valla know that even though the price of the tower is 1gp, the processing fees come up to 1000gp and are non-refundable.
Elsewhere, members of the IA visit the local chapter of the WLA. Upon entering they can see it's been setup to cater to wealthy adventurers and neer-do-wells that seek a bit more excitement and training to further their free spirits. And although they can take payment to join now, no benefits or access are given until after the indoctrination period and subsequent training, which will take two days in total.
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 21 Monday April 26th, 2010 6:36:55 PM
Crossing his fingers in the hope that no-one asks him his Writ of Conveyance, Cesar asks directions for the temple of Alemi and once within asks to speak with a priest.
"I... have some doubts in my mind and I thought that maybe you could help me find the answers I need..."
Alemi Cleric -- DM Jim Monday April 26th, 2010 7:08:45 PM
The cleric of Alemi that greets Cesar is elderly and has a kind, yet sad face. "You come seeking the wisdom of Alemi? What do you have to give in exchange?"
Zeoll and his dog d20+8=24 ; d20+6=14 ; Monday April 26th, 2010 7:41:45 PM
Zeoll asks the seller of the property, "Well, it is sad that so many died, but what? Arre therre ghosts orr something? Maybe humans arre morre superrstitious than the uncivilized liontaurrs."
Zeoll thinks there is more of a story here. "Who killed them? What is the tale? And why sell the prroperrty at all? Arre therre taxes orr some rrule that makes the prroperrty a liability?"

Statten -- DM Jim Monday April 26th, 2010 8:01:21 PM "A cousin of the late owner wishes to sell it and yes, some say it is indeed haunted." The agent obviously had tried to sell the tower before, so his sales pitch wasn't hard or agressive.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Monday April 26th, 2010 8:40:21 PM Good afternoon. We are interested in becoming members of the WLA. Can you please tell us a little more about the two days of training? Will we be lodging here during the training?
ooc: who exactly has the writ now? And how long does it take to add on a room to the shop (more than two days?)
Bosk has it.Construction time is 1000gp/week, so a single 100gp room would be about 1 day. DM Jim
Zeoll and his dog d20+8=23 ; Monday April 26th, 2010 10:06:18 PM

Zeoll goes into dickering mode. "Does this cousin want his kinsfolk to rroam as rrestless spirrits, a plague upon the new ownerrs of this place? Or would he be happy to see them on to theirr eterrnal rrest? I am surre he would prreferr the latterr. So if we can serrve to help in this matterr, and give these rrestless spirrits satisfaction, maybe he would be willing to pay the 1,000 gold in fees as a thank you, and we could buy the place for the gold piece that it is currrently worrth."

Curious about the indoctrination period Bosk asks As members can we freely enter the city to train here or to meet with you? We share a writ of conveyance with others who do not wish to join at this time and our monopolizing the writ to train here puts a little bit of a strain on the group.
Statten -- DM Jim Tuesday April 27th, 2010 3:20:04 AM
In answer to Zeoll's query, "I'm afraid not, the tower itself is worth several thousand, if he wanted to spend that kind of gold, he could have it exorcised himself. But, I will pass along the question to him if you're really serious about this sale."

Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:12/12 Tuesday April 27th, 2010 1:04:17 PM
Valla is indeed still curious and serious about buying this tower. A thousand gold isn't a bad price. The fact that its haunted is even more intriguing. Valla is clearly happy about this purchase.
What is the proper procedure in buying the tower? I have the gold; I want to buy it. Valla then produces his pouch of coins, gingling it in front of the salesman.
He then turns to speak to Zeoll in a lower voice; not wanting to make public their level of power.
I assume this would take us a fair deal of time to develop the abilities to rid the tower of its ghostly occupants. But I think buying the tower now is a good idea. Zeoll; a new member of our group, but your the only one around, and you've been lighthearted and easy going. A type of person I like to be around. Would you be willing to lend a hand in sending these spirits to their resting places?
Statten the agent -- DM Jim Tuesday April 27th, 2010 1:23:07 PM
Stattens eyes light up and he vigorously shakes both Valla's hand and Zeoll's, even giving the liontaurs dog a swift pet. "Thank you good sirs, here is all the paperwork, all I need is the 1gp." After much signing of documents, Statten gives you the keys and all the paperwork necessary to have the title and deed transferred over to you--it will require another trip to the administration complex to pay the 1000gp for transfer fees and the documents required to show ownership--which must be done within 3 days of purchase (all you have now is a bill of sale).
Statten once again thanks you, takes up his For Sale sign and hurries away. The locked front door awaits. --------- ooc: small round tower, 30' high x 40' diameter.

OOC: does the catacombs not take real time? Bosk was there, and Maikill was with him. If the catacombs is just pretend time then Maikill will follow Bosk around, though he does not want to join the WLA.
Yes and no. You have to state in game you're going, but it takes no time. So Bosk, Maikill and Valla can go after their current situation since they didn't state it before. Usually you go to the catacombs, then when it's done, you post it in game because it can take days for your order to go through real time. DM Jim

"No, I no good at following rules. Forget sometimes. I just stay with minotaur here."
he motions toward Bosk, in case he is confused as to which of the minotuars, there being only one, he is referring to.
then in a not quiet enough voice he adds to the man
"He need me to protect him. Trade his metal armor for grass."
Maikill nods toward Bosk, and looks up and smiles at him.

Catacombs -- DM Jim Tuesday April 27th, 2010 3:50:55 PM
ooc: just a couple notes...
Don't place an order or take a ticket unless you're ready to buy or sell something there. Maikill and Valla's situation where they've taken a ticket but can't complete it until a previous order is fulfilled can cause some headaches to the catacombs helpers there.
Don't post in game that you're going to the Catacombs until your order has been fulfilled because it can take days, and check with me if it's available in your current area, i.e. Hook City is fine, but if you're stuck in Mudtown you don't have access.
If anyone wants to be group treasurer (Maybe Bosk already is?) and update this spreadsheet for future loot shares, LMK and I'll give them rights to edit the page.
Ransy AC 19/11/18 Hp 23/23 Tuesday April 27th, 2010 4:09:36 PM
OOC: as no-one seems to understand Ransy's behaviour, I'll explain: Ransy doesn't want to wait another two days before going after Vellinius and the cult. I made that absolutely clear in previous post: not another 2 days delay. Now Bosk is deciding that he'll take 2 days. That's his choice, but don't expect Ransy to wait. Ransy went to the WLA because he wanted to become a member and get information about mind-flayers and Vellinius' cult (I posted that earlier too). In his view the most important benefit of the WLA is the information network. the quote "no benefits and no access" logically implies that as a brand new member, Ransy has no access to the information network of the WLA. That's why he got furious, he can't wait 2 whole days for this information, he is convinced of that.

Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Tuesday April 27th, 2010 9:44:59 PM
Beriothian takes a step forward, apparently Bosk's gigantic calf had hidden the small elf from view. I am not sure if you need the information in advance, but I would like to learn to handle a Bastard Sword during my two days of training with the WLA. I will most likely be returning the same day Bosk.
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Wednesday April 28th, 2010 8:50:37 AM
As nobody else seems to care about the 2 days' delay, nor about the innocent victims which Vellinius might be making in that time, Ransy fruitlessly wanders about for a half hour, then he returns to the WLA building, and says to the clerk: Well, it seems members of my group are taking two days off. So I would like to become a member of the WLA too and do my 'indoctrination period' of two days. I would also like to learn to handle a bastard sword during that period.
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 21 Wednesday April 28th, 2010 9:24:02 AM
OOC.
Valla and Zeoll are having a look at the tower, Beri, Bosk and Ransy are at the WLA and I'm at the temple... should we just fast-forward the two days?
Or maybe Valla and Zeoll want to RP the tower inspection?
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Wednesday April 28th, 2010 9:36:23 AM
I'm ok with that.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Wednesday April 28th, 2010 10:47:41 AM
ooc: I'm okay with that, though it may be prudent to stop by the shop and get the latest gossip first (though if there is nothing out of the ordinary muggings and murders of Mudtown that can be part of the fastforward). Also, since the store will be even more crowded now (two taurs in that tiny place!) I'd like to make sure the extra room I'm adding has been paid for before leaving.
2 days -- DM Jim Wednesday April 28th, 2010 11:59:38 AM
okay guys, since we're going to take a 2 day interlude, please state what you're going to do during that time; some I already know about, but please state it again.

Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:12/12 Wednesday April 28th, 2010 3:27:25 PM
Valla gets 3700gp and 76sp plus what Bosk owes him correct? Valla will inspect his tower during the two days. After going to administrations to get everything handled and paying all the fees.
He will enter the tower, leaving the door opened taking his time to look around as well. (Take 20 on spot/search/listen checks?). Assuming there is still time today, he will find and purchase the tools needed to brew potions at their own shop. In a room upstairs.
Is this possible?
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Wednesday April 28th, 2010 3:29:43 PM
Ransy will be at the WLA, doing his induction program, training with a bastard sword (he'll buy one if available at a normal price, 35-40 gp) and at the end he'll ask for information about the mindflayer (illithid?) and about Vellinius' cult.

OOC: I am confused, can we come and go from Hook City as individuals during this two days? If so, Maikill will go and look around for clues on his uncle's location.
No, unless you have the Writ. DM Jim
Zeoll and his dog Wednesday April 28th, 2010 6:57:07 PM
OOC: Sorry, I only intended to take a few hours, tops, to go with Valla, not two days. Hope this did not cause any hard feelings. If there are any innocents at risk, Zeoll is not aware of it -- either because no one told him or because he or I are clueless.
Anyway, Zeoll does not think that two people should explore a haunted tower. He thinks (and said in his last post) that the whole group should go.
That said, if lots of folks are busy at the WLA, Zeoll will go with Valla rather than let him go alone. Although Zeoll hopes that if there is to be combat or other things taking a lot of posts, our kindly DM will let us have a chance to get the party together first.

Beriothian plans on paying to have his room added the the store, then spending the two days at the WLA training. (He is also planning a Catacombs trip, but that may not be processed before the jump). While at the WLA he is going to train in proficiency with bastard swords and jumping.
Before returning from the WLA he will make inquiries into Vellinius (who tried to suck out Beri's brains), the group that threatened to firebomb our shop (warehouse owners), the kidnappers of Ransy and Caesar, and about Yosef's cult.

"I no have place to stay in Hook City. I go back to store, try and find out where uncle is. See you at store when you are done."
Maikill then wanders back towards the gate, feeling a bit lost.
Maikill will wait at the shop, moving around the neighborhood looking for signs of his uncle.

So who keeps the writ?
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 21 Thursday April 29th, 2010 7:49:34 AM
Regarding the catacombs sale: has it been finalized or not yet? Just to know if I have to update Cesar's sheet and consider any other purchases he might need to make during this downtime.

The earth is fragrant with plum petals falling on my way home. -- Fuwa 1712
"Cesar, what will you exchange for the blessing of Alemi?" asked the cleric. As the warrior was thinking about it, the cleric asked, "Wealth? That is the most common answer, but not the one we seek. Since you have not answered quickly, perhaps you don't know. Let us say, time. Come with me and let us talk to my brothers and we will share with you the teachings of the god of gods and in exchange all we ask for is your time." Agreeing, Cesar went with the robed cleric and was soon greeted by other brethren in the temple who were more than willing to give their time in exchange for Cesar's to teach him about the ways of Alemi. After much talking, which lead to supper that Cesar did partake of, the hours passed. Before he knew it, two days had passed and the clergy there had basically accepted Cesar as one of their own--having found the warrior had a natural aptitude for clerical studies, all that was needed was for him to pass the Rite of Alemi to join their clergy. However, like all things rushed into, this was not one of them that would benefit from making such a snap decision. The timing was good too as Cesar needed to rejoin his friends in Mudtown, so the clerics there, in particular one named Ywod, said he should leave and if his heart was truly devoted to Alemi, he should return and take the Rite to secure his true devotion to the god of gods.
######
After having secured the title and deed to the tower, Valla and Zeoll were back at the tower to inspect it. Under much protest from Zeoll not to enter the tower without their other friends, Valla entered anyway--Zeoll followed behind as he was not about to abandon his new friend, no matter how impetuous he was. Inside the tower was a dilapidated looking palor, with stairs to the right going up to the second level. Valla purposefully left the front door wide open, but Zeoll's dog would not enter--no matter, as soon as both were in the door slammed closed behind them. Standing in front of the now closed door were two little identical twin girls who were human and looked about eight years old each, but they were as beautiful as any elvish princesses the pair had ever seen. "Tea time!" both said in unison as they rushed Valla and Zeoll. There was no time to reaction (malevolence, no AoO) as both girls rushed the pair of Iron Adventurers and disappeared into their respective hosts. It was a strange feeling, like being three feet thick and being able to look at your body from the inside looking out, but not being able to affect said body. Before the pair realized their bodies, which included their ability to speak, were not under their control, they were moving upstairs to a series of rooms--one in particular, the twins room. For nearly the next ten hours they had a tea party. Both Valla and Zeoll were dressed in bonnets, their hair had been done up in curls and nearing the end of their ten hour ordeal, each were wearing copious amounts of makeup, in particular, blue eyeshadow--"You can never wear too much blue eyeshadow, right sis?" To which the twin sister concurred and added, "Or red lipstick." The pair was ghastly to look upon in the near mirror and as they felt the power of the twins beginning to lessen their hold over them both, one sister said to the other, "I think it's clobbering time." They both rose up in unison, moved away from the tea table they had elaborately set up and began pummeling each other senseless. After several blows, Valla's body succumbed to the non-lethal beating and passed out. Zeoll's body stood triumphant over the elf's and then he began beating his head against the wall. All it took was a couple of blows and he too was out like a light. how much time passed was uncertain, but as each were about to regain consciousness, they could feel the twins once again slip into them. "Tea time!" This went on again and again until Zeoll managed to force back the twin that was trying to enter his body. With swift legs, Zeoll took up Valla--who had yet again succumbed to his twin entity, and fled downstairs to the front door to escape. "Don't come back!" yelled the twin as she chased behind him. Then as he opened the front door, Valla turned to him, looked him straight in the eyes and said in a little girls voice, "If you come back, we'll roast your eyes and eat your flesh." Then the ghost left Valla's body and the pair exited the tower--the door swiftly slamming shut behind them. As he stood there panting, Zeoll's faithful dog came around the corner and barked at his return--his dog's head did go sideways when he saw his master in so much makeup holding an elf in his arms, but hey, what happens in Hook City stays in Hook City. After a few minutes and looking about and asking what day it was from a few passersby, who of course laughed heartily, the pair of intrepid adventurers learned about two days had passed. Zeoll's head was pounding from the lack of food and the beatings the wall had given him, but he had his life and so too Valla.
######
"Faster you slow ox!" yelled the weapons master of the WLA chapterhouse. "How do you expect to defeat your foe swinging that bastard sword about like it was a wet noodle?" Turning to Ransy, "Your gods not going to save you holding that sword like it was a little lady, and what the heck are you doing Berry-winkle? Is that a sword or a sledgehammer? By the gods, you're the worst would-be adventurers I've ever seen." The insults and torment went on for hours the first day as the three Iron Adventurers, plus other new recruits, trained long and hard to become proficient in the use of the bastard sword. Any complaints were met swiftly and harshly by additional push-ups, v-ups and running in place and if the person threatened any violence instead, they were immediately removed from the chapterhouse, their money refunded and told to comeback when they were ready to accept training. The accelerated training, rich food and more accelerated training went on for two solid days--at the end of which the trainer, Master Buar, congratulated each member who stuck it out and earned their badge. "Wear it with pride, you're now part of a vast network of brothers and sisters, a family that looks out for each other. But also remember, like fish that goes bad in three days, don't overstay your welcome." On their way out, Bosk asks about the Writ and if it's needed to exit the city, to which the front desk clerk says pretty much what Jameson the clerk at the Admin complex said, that it's only required to enter the city and if you're in the city and found not to have it, there could be a fine and explusion from the city. Beri then goes on about Vellinius, the kidnappers and such to which the clerk is greatly interested in hearing more, but cannot offer any more information at all on anything that Beri asks about. He suggests looking at the bulletin board for any info on said things, posting something there asking about them, or make a few friends around here and see what they know--all of which takes time (and info gather rolls), which the three doesn't have right now as they are expected back at Black's.
######
It was fortuitous that Bosk had to sell all the groups loot at the Catacombs because Maikill needed to go there too! Once there and seeing the plethora of items, both magical and mundane, that could be purchased, he was in heaven. What stood out in particular was a suit of black rhino armor. It wasn't black per se, but from the hide of a black rhino that was a darker gray in color. It's bestial nature sung to the half-orc's heart and he knew he had to have it--the only problem was the wait, and wait he did. Bosk would complete his transaction, giving Maikill his share, and leave to join the WLA before Maikill's number even came up. With most of the day spent waiting at the Catacombs, it's was much later when Maikill had his new gear and had exited the city proper to make his way back to Black's. Stepping through the city gates was like stepping through an invisible curtain. The fresh spring scent of Hook City was immediately replaced by the pungent smells of mud, muck and filth--what real life smelled like. So long has Maikill been away from it, he had almost forgotten what home smelled like--whether it was here or in the far away steppes of of his father's clan. In no time Maikill found that Black's was still in good shape--Sanji and the others had been busily cleaning the place while the group was gone and making it ready for business, they even had the front sign taken down to have it repainted with a different name. They were also glad to hear everyone was still alive, but was saddened at the loss of both Grendel and Xeron from their group. After eating several servings of Sanji's cooking (cooking:19), which was much to his liking, Maikill excused himself and went out in search of his uncle. What he would do when he found him was easy enough to know, but what if he had friends, how could Maikill expect to survive a fight without his company companions. The rest of that day and the next two brought no success (no rolls made), but he had laid the foundation of whom he was seeking and perhaps those people he had talked too would give him word at some later time about his foul uncle--then he would pay.
Day16
That late morning the group in whole reconvened at what was formerly Black's Emporium. Valla and Zeoll looked bushed and had remnants of something, makeup(?), on their faces. Bosk, Ransy and Beri had just finished their training last night, supped mightily with the rest of the WLA chapterhouse and slept just as well in their barracks beds to find themselves this morning a little sore as they had breakfast with the rest of the group. Cesar seemed a bit more introspective perhaps, maybe it was the amount of wisdom he had received the last few days that he was still processing in his mind and spirit, but like Maikill and the rest, it was abruptly interrupted by the burnt offerings Sanji served in the guise of bacon and eggs to the Iron Adventurers--hopefully they have iron stomachs as well to keep down Sanji's cooking (Cooking: 3).
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells d20+3=18 ; Thursday April 29th, 2010 7:00:28 PM
As the reunited group approaches the shop Bosk breaks out into a run and makes an amazimg leap towards the door. It is clear that he is enjoying the fact that with his new armor he can run fastet and jump farther than in his old armor and appriciates everyone staying in the Sargrass while it was being made.
Sitting down to breakfast he looks at the charred bacon and remembers that Grendel had the groups well seasoned skillet on her when she left. He makes a mental note to replace it and to get some special spices which may enhance meals such as this.
After thanking Sanji for the meal Bosk how Hemust, Jillian and herself got along while they were gone and what the word around town is about the braineater. He then will ask the non-WLA members about thier experience and check that Cesar's horse was well taken care of (and not still in Hook City ;)
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 d20=4 ; Thursday April 29th, 2010 9:59:52 PM
Beriothian walks slowly down the road to their shop. His legs feel like lead after the strenuous training at the WLA, but Beri has learned a few things about the proper way to jump. More importantly however, he has learned more than a few things about the correct way to land, which apparently is not square on your rear end.
As he approaches the shop he sees that the sign has been taken down. It looks like they are getting the shop ready to reopen... I wonder if they have already renamed it. He joins up with the rest of the group and sit around the table telling the tales of their adventures. From the looks of it Valla and Zeoll have a the best tale of all to tell.
As the adventurers finish their tales Beri is thrilled by the site of a hot meal, though upon it's arrival he is not quite sure which black globs are the eggs and which are the bacon. Still, never one to turn down a hot meal, he quickly picks up his for and makes short work of the meal. As soon as Sanji returns to the kitchen Beri makes a mad dash for the bathroom, locking the door behind him. What can only be described as the gargled war cry of a thousand drowning orangutans can be heard from the small room as Sanji's breakfast exacts it's revenge on the poor elf. A few minutes later Beri emerges and heads to the kitchen for a weak cup of coffee... that he kindly insists on preparing himself.

Sanji -- DM Jim Thursday April 29th, 2010 10:02:22 PM
Very apologetic over the poor breakfast, Sanji relates to the rest that the time they had been away had been spent cleaning the business and making it ready to open. Also, sadly, Hemust and Jillian were going to ask Grendel to marry them as they have come to an agreement about their future, but that looks to be on hold now.

Valla greets everyone in turn, trying to hide his blushy face a bit.... I've bought a haunted tower, He reply's to Bosk. Then turning to the group, It seems we've recieved our first, and probably only, warning about entering the place... It was an.... unpleasant experience.
The elf relates the tale of the girls being tortured to death. The haunt the tower now, and are probably not friendly by any means from the leaving message they'd given us. Im not to sure about these things... Spirits controlled our bodies for tea time... I know that much, powerful spirits I think; in little girls bodies; and lots of make-up... A venture for a later time I fear...
He seems a bit distraught, even odd maybe. Looking at the horribly cooked meal, he doesn't even care. Without food for two days, Valla eats his plate, and and leftovers, quickly. Thanking Sanji when he's finished.
So, after the Cultists right away? Or is it possible we can go back into Hook City, I still need a few supplies, which I meant to do.... But, Things happend.

Cesar arrives quite early to the Iron Adventurer's Shop, a relaxed and peaceful look upon his face.
"Good evening, dear fellows", he greets them upon entering and sitting down at the table, "I hope all your ventures went as expected. Valla, I'm with you if you need to nip into Hook Town for a few provisions: I need to find a courier and buy a few pieces of equipment before we start off in search of Vellinus and his cultists. Regarding that: if nobody has found any information on the creature, we could start off by tracking the Yosef person you thought was a cultist and see if he has any information about where the squid-creature lies"
OOC. How does buying equipment work? A simple visit to the Catacombs or a RP'd stroll through town?
Either, however while in Mudtown you do not have access to the Catacombs nor any magical items for sale, and all purchases/sales must be approved by me. DM Jim

Ransy says: Alas, we haven't heard anything at the Woldian League of Adventurers about the illithid. We didn't have time, however, for they pressed us very hard at the training grounds. We could go back there and try to make some acquaintances.
Zeoll, there's an illithid on the loose here in Mudtown, and he has instigated a kind of religious cult of people who'd like to be dominated by him. There are little worms which are put in people's brains, ugly, yak! We saved a mole who can get those worms out of a man's brain, and eat it. Master Alistair is studying a worm, right now, probably. Where is the mole now? Does anyone know?
Cesar, I don't think it's a good idea to track Yoseph, he's gone too long now, thanks to Bosk. We had better ask around in the taverns, watering holes etc. about people disappearing or acting strangely. That might give us a clue to the illithid Vellinius.
Sanji -- DM Jim Friday April 30th, 2010 12:11:22 PM
"I have a mole," replies Sanji, "Oh, I mean, I have THE mole and it's been well cared for." When Ransy gives rebuke to Bosk, Sanji speaks in a irritated voice, "Have a care who you blame, you don't know everything. As we speak, that Yosef character could be doing terrible things and needs to be put an end too, but since you've written him off--somehow knowing it's too late and blaming Bosk for it, you can discard the idea and feel no resposibility for what may happen. Right?"

Ransy tries to appease Sanji, using diplomacy (check 29, natural 20)
Ransy: Of course, I still feel responsible, but I doubt whether Yoseph is a good lead now. But, speaking of which, you, Sanji, do you know where Yoseph went? AFter all, you've spent a lot of time with him, haven't you? Could you somehow help us find him?
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Friday April 30th, 2010 2:28:59 PM
Cesar, check out the below link on the catacombs. Using the Catacombs
Bosk looks over at Ransy, slightly embarrassed by his comments. I'm sorry if our lead on Yosef has grown cold, however we do know where he was headed and it takes more than a few days to establish a powerful cult. Setting that aside, what would you like to do about Yesef? He is planning on establishing a group of people who will work together to gain power and control those around him. Although it it is wrong to manipluate people like that, there is nothing illegal about it. We cannot simply kill or arrest him for forming such a group. Unlike Vellinius he is not using mindcontrol to force people to stay with him or obey him. I am afraid we will have to bide our time until he has enough power that he feels safe enough to break a few laws before we can do much. We cannot go into a strange town without jobs or a place to stay and wait indefinitely for him to make his next move.
As much as it pains me to say it, for now I think our best course of action is to place notices around the WLA and to gather information on the group. Besides, I have a feeling Vellinius isn't going to take a rival group formed by his former members lightly. There is a good chance he will take matters into his own hands before we have justification to do so.
In the mean time I am more worried about the group that kidnapped you and Cesar and placed you in those lockers. I suggest we stake out the warehouse and try to get our money back from freeing you, learn what thier plans for you were, and stop them from capturing any more innocent people.
That being said, you all have induldged my desire to join the WLA and waited while I was fitted for armor. If you plan to stay with us and we are to be companions then I will show you the same respect by accompaning and assisting you on your endevors. It is clear that the taur is sincere in his comments will go after Yosef without hesitation, should that be the groups will.
After talking with the others on what to do next, Bosk asks Hemust and Jillian if they have heard anything about the braineater since thier leave. Although they haven't actually killed or captured the creature the murders have stopped and he would greatly like to claim the reward.
Sanji -- DM Jim Friday April 30th, 2010 2:53:20 PM
"Alot of time? No, he was here sleeping most of that next day with his wife, or whatever the heck she was, and the kids. you know as much about him as I do." ------ ooc: please note everyone, unless you take the time required--1 full minute (10 consecutive rounds), all diplomacy checks are at -10 per the rules.
Hemust and Jillian -- DM Jim Friday April 30th, 2010 2:56:24 PM
Thinking something else was on Bosk's mind, the pair are slightly surprised when he asks them about the braineater and his apparent absence and how the town has reacted. Not suprisingly, Mudtown has become it's old self again--people milling about, getting hired, fired, killed and worse--it's almost as if the pair wished the braineater was still in town, at the minimum, crime would be less due to less people on the streets.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 d20+2=17 ; Friday April 30th, 2010 9:27:42 PM
Beriothian enters the room again holding a steaming cup of coffee. It's too early to be arguing. As far as we know the Vellinius is not going to attack anyone else now that the fledgling cult has fled. While I can't wait to get my revenge on the coward that attacked me from behind, I have no delusions about us being ready to take him on so I am happy to put that on hold for now.
As for our next mission, the only real lead we have is the direction Yoseph was headed, and he is almost certainly the safest choice at this time. The only problem is that Bosk is right, we have no justification to hunt him down... yet. Probably the most logical option at this time spend a few hours after breakfast gathering info. With a little luck we can gather a few leads, and if Yoseph is a dangerous as he considers himself to be I am sure we can find somebody who can not only give us cause to go after him, but will also pay us for our troubles.
Beriothian sips slowly at his coffee and notices something odd about the table. I wonder where all the food has gone. Surely only those with Orkish blood could stomach such a meal. Perhaps they fed it to the dog, though if that's the case I am glad I'm not the one that has to clean up after it in the morning
ooc: Bosk, the MW Skillet wasn't on Grendel. According to your sheet it's in Group Loot (and Grendel doesn't have it among her items). I also don't see her taking it in the archives... I am pretty sure we just didn't get back from the WLA before breakfast was started (it is late morning after all). also, that 17 was for my tap game... ignore it.
I ruled she took it along with her for the trip. DM Jim
The dog with no name -- DM Jim Friday April 30th, 2010 10:28:03 PM
"Worwl...woof woof." Obviously the dog was hungry, it had waited faithfully outside the haunted tower for days while his master and companion played at a tea party and hadn't a bite to eat all that time. "Worwrl."
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Friday April 30th, 2010 11:57:40 PM
Whispers in a hushed voice I know the food was awful, but it's just cruel to have made the dog eat it. Listen to him out their suffering... you should be ashamed of your selves.
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Saturday May 1st, 2010 3:06:32 AM
RAnsy says: let's not jump to conclusions, guys. Beri, you say that Vellinius is not going to attack somebody else. I don't see how we could possibly know that! That man is a monster, not a law-abiding citizen. And you know what monsters do in a town where there's hardly any law-keeping authority. So let's not assume that Vellinius will refrain from doing evil. Or am I missing something here? As to Yoseph: do we really have to wait until he commits a crime? IF he really was part of the cult, as Temujin said, he'll likely be preparing for evil right now. It is better to prevent, than to wait and mourn the death of another victim, I think. So, if we can discover where Yoseph went, it would be good to follow him.
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 23 Saturday May 1st, 2010 7:17:23 AM "The most pressing matters we have on our hands are Vellinus and his cult. We now nothing about where Vellinus is and what he is doing, so I say we start off with searching for Yosef: he probably didn't travel far with his family, so we might be able to catch up with him. Ransy, you are right that we do not have anything on our hands to incriminate him, but we should still keep an eye on him. We might find some evidence of what he was doing here when still in direct contact with the squid-thing. Although... where would we find a lead on his destination?"
Maikill HP 39/39, AC17 Saturday May 1st, 2010 11:49:12 AM
Maikill listens as the argument plays out over what they should do next.
"I go talk to uncle soon. No care about Yosef. He leave here, not our problem. Why not we stay here, take care of shop. I talk to uncle, Cesar and Ransy find out who put them in locker? You not care who put you in locker or why?"
Maikill shakes his head.
"We have own problems, we not in charge of all Mudtown."

ooc: Sunday February 7th, 2010 3:03:03 PM we learned that Yosef's family is heading a half days journey from here and most likely will be going to fishing town on the coast.
I will go with the group to chase which ever lead we choose, but it might be wise to try to collect the reward for the Braineater while one is still being offered.
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Saturday May 1st, 2010 12:43:25 PM
Ransy: I don't know who offered a reward for the Braineater, nor under which conditions. Can you please tell me some more about that, Bosk? Of course, if we've earned it, we should collect it.
Maikill HP 39/39, AC17 Saturday May 1st, 2010 12:49:59 PM
Maikill turns to Ransy.
"You not talk much to me. Let me ask you again, do you care who put you in locker? If you no care, let people put you in locker and not seek revenge, people think you weak. If they think you weak, they maybe do it again."
Maikill looks to Ransy and glances over at Cesar.
"If people try put me in locker, they need kill me first."
Zeoll and his dog Saturday May 1st, 2010 1:28:58 PM
Zeoll shrugs, trying to follow the debate. "This villain sounds like a menace," he says. "But I'll go along with whatever the majority want to do."
He feeds his dog, and chides it. "Next time go hunt for cats and rrats. If you die, I'll have to call a new companion."
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Saturday May 1st, 2010 1:43:27 PM I said as far as we know Vellinius isn't going to attack because the only victims that we know of his are myself and the poor fellow pretending to by Yoseph. Everyone else was a victim of Temujin. And I do think we should go after him, but a guy who can make your head explode without ever presenting a target is not someone we should be attacking without a lot more information.
And as for Yoseph, I believe that we do need to wait until he commits a crime before we do anything. Or, more precisely we should find out if him and his cult have already committed some horrible acts for which there is a bounty for. I think that most of us here are not ready to become vigilantes who chase down people on a whim. In fact, our track record shows us to be pretty poor judges of other people's actions and motives. I definitely think the wisest course of action is to spend at least a couple hours looking for leads.
Beriothian turns to Maikill. While I'm aware of what your uncle did, I don't believe I've ever talked with you about your uncle. Do we know if he is in town? If so, I'm all for hunting him down so you can talk with him.
The dog with no name -- DM Jim Saturday May 1st, 2010 2:28:44 PM
"Worrrl." The dog truly seemed saddened at the thought of dying so his master could get a new companion, so much so he slowly sulks off to find a quiet corner to sleep in.
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Saturday May 1st, 2010 2:59:19 PM
Ransy says to Maikill: sorry for not answering you right away, but apparently you didn't listen to me in the past either. It's easy to say that you would be killed first before being put in a locker, but I was knocked out from behind, with a well aimed blow to the brain. You should have passed out too if you were the victim of that. Of course, I would like to go after our attackers, but that doesn't mean we have to let Vellinius do his evil work unchallenged. And I have already said that I find Yoseph's trail a poor lead. He's gone almost a week now. The gods know where he might be at this time. Before, I said: IF WE KNOW, but I don't think we know enough. So we should gather information. We know far too little, either about my kidnappers, or Vellinius or Yoseph.
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 23 Saturday May 1st, 2010 3:05:30 PM "So let's get moving and search for some clues on where to start! What are the main points we should focus on?"
Zeoll and his dog Saturday May 1st, 2010 8:14:19 PM
"What exactly arre we looking forr?" asks Zeoll. "I'm good at finding things out."
Maikill HP 39/39, AC17 Saturday May 1st, 2010 10:01:17 PM
Maikill listens to Ransy and nods in agreement.
"Sometime I listen but no remember. I not too smart they say. I strong though, it take more than one hit to knock me down, then I turn around and see who hit me. I not say it your fault you got put in locker, I just wonder why you not first want to find out who put you in locker. If you want, I help you. No want you put back in locker."
then he adds
"I know my uncle near, Temujin tell me. I find him soon."

Due to confusion I will place an in game in character post listing every ones cut after the DM and Catacombs clear it.
Jim, did my taur shoes ever get put on? If not I would like to get them shod at the next available opportunity. (How much does that cost?) No, and cesar never picked up his horse in Hook City either. That would be a good place to get them shod for 1gp, or you could take your chances here in Mudtown for 1sp. DM Jim

Sorry guys, been hella busy, got another job. Cutting down big ass trees... Stuff aint no joke...
Valla listens to everyone banter over the lost lead and what to do next. I have this... I think it will help... He hands the piece of paper to Sanji, I Havn't read it yet, so read it aloud. I think we should go back to Hook City, get what we need and then find our Illithid. Without better gear, our heads could possibly be the next debris in the mud...
Last known location -- DM Jim Tuesday May 4th, 2010 12:47:41 PM
Sanji looks at the slip of paper and it is a small map of sorts. It shows a medium sized building (40'x20' you would guess) out on the water at the edge of South Mudtown. The only word on the map is, The Madrigal.
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 23 Tuesday May 4th, 2010 2:33:55 PM "Whiner!", exclaims Cesar, "I may have forgot to pick up my horse... could we please hurry up and decide our destination, so I can run to the stables and make amend for this shortcoming of mine?".
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Tuesday May 4th, 2010 5:09:16 PM
Ransy looks at the map, and says: "it's on the water, we'll need a boat or something similar to get there. Now we have a lead. Perhaps Zeoll and I could get out and try to collect some info in the streets and the taverns about that term 'The Madrigal'. Zeoll, what do you think?
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Tuesday May 4th, 2010 9:54:25 PM I think that I will head with Bosk and Cesar to the stables. While they are taking care of their chores I will try to hire some carpenters to add that extra room and see if I can find someone who has heard of "The Madrigal".

Ransy tries to assist Zeoll in gathering info, but it doesn't help (6,3,9).
Ransy asnwers Zeoll's question: what it is about? I think Vellinius, the illithid, is interested in power; he probably wants to become the most powerful figure in Mudtown, without alerting the authorities in Hook City. So he tries to remain hidden, while gathering followers in a cult and dominating people through brain-worms. I don't know who his main adversaries are at the moment; I don't think we are; we have done little so far to hinder him in his actions. I don't believe the cult has disappeared entirely now that Yoseph is gone. One member less doesn't mean the end of the entire cult, I would say.
Zeoll and his dog Wednesday May 5th, 2010 6:22:06 AM
"Hmmm ..." Zeoll muses, "Sounds to me like sunshine is what's needed. If someone could pull back the currtain, rreveal the trruth, and let people know what is rreally going on, then that would be half the battle."
The liontaur is obviously very thoughtful.
[OOC: I am very seriously thinking about taking the Stinger prestige class at level 4. The Stinger's ability to spread rumors -- especially true rumors -- not to mention the reputation Stingers have for fairness and targeting those who need to be targeted -- seem really relevant to this situation, Zeoll thinks.]
I like the Stinger class too--thought about taking it for my Bard in Ust, but we don't do a lot of town/city RPing there so it would have been wasted. But here in Mudtown, you would rule! :) DM Jim

Actions -- DM Jim d20=18 ; Wednesday May 5th, 2010 5:43:25 PM
Heading out for the day on various tasks, the group splits up after their very poor breakfast that Sanji destroyed--maybe they'll eat something palatable somewhere else as even Sanji, Hemust and Jillian didn't bother to eat the charred breakfast.
Beri, Bosk, Valla and Cesar head back into Hook City and with the acquisition of the Writ, they pass through a smaller gate into the beautiful, pristine city. Bosk attempts to get his magical horseshoes shod at the Catacombs, but they don't handle such work. Since Cesar is wanting to go get his horse, they proceed there and find that the amount owed is 10gp for Whiner to be freed--he has been very well cared for and his well groomed pelt shows generous attention. For 2gp, one gold piece per hoof, Bosk can have his hooves shod with his magical horseshoes--the aftereffect is the minotaur is making a little more noise than before, but the cobblestones of the street acentuate all manner of conveyances that roll or walk upon it's surface.
Bosk and the others also visit the WLA and ask around about the Madrigal and the kidnappers, but no one there in the common room or training room know anything about it. Posting some notices, they hope something may turn up. When they leave, both the Taur and Beri try in vain to hire someone in Hook City to add on to their building in Mudtown, but they're curtly told that no one works in Mudtown except other Mudtowners. When they exit the city and make their way back, they do stop by a small construction place called Gil's. They charge the standard price for a 10'x10' living space--100gp. When asking about for Maikill's uncle, boss learns nothing about the uncle, but he does hear that someone, a half-orc, is also looking for same said uncle.
Maikill, impressive in his rhino armor, spends many hours looking for his uncle. Perhaps he's already left, maybe he's in Hook City itself. Whatever the case, another day is spent learning nothing helpful about his murderous kin.
Ransy and Zeoll have better luck as they both learn that the Madrigal is an inn and the pair also find exactly where it is. A ramshackle medium sized building set out on the water, it has a pier that leads out to it about 50' in length and there are several small boats tied to both the pier and the wraparound porch that encircles the inn itself--it seems to get more popular as the night approaches and the sound of singing and merriment can easily be heard from the shoreline.
As dinner time approaches, the entire group reconvenes back at the shop to share what they've learned or lack of. Sanji this time serves an excellent meal of pulled pork sandwiches with some homemade coleslaw (cooking 18).
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Wednesday May 5th, 2010 11:02:25 PM
Beriothian heads back into Hook City with his group, the contrast from the dank streets of Mudtown is astounding. Even the fragrant air of the stables is like roses in comparison. While the other party members go about their cores Beri tries to gather some information, but comes up empty handed.
The party is greeted warmly upon their return to the WLA, however as helpful as the members try to be none are able to provide any additional information. Feeling slightly dejected the head back to Mudtown.
Shortly after passing back though the city gates they come across Gil's. Beri enters the shop and walks up to the counter. Excuse me, I am interested in adding a room onto our current residence. He pulls out the 100 gold coins he had set aside earlier for this purpose and hand them to him.
Returning to the shop Beri's nose is delighted to catch a whiff of something delicious. After a moment his heart leaps at the realization that it's actually their shop that the aroma is coming from! It smells like Sanji was far more successful with dinner. I hope he made plenty, I'm famished!
Once Beri's chewing has slowed down (about halfway through his third sandwich) he turns to Maikill. By the way, we stopped by Gil's construction earlier today to add some rooms to this shop. We asked him about your uncle. *nom nom nom...gulp* he said that a half-orc had been asking about your uncle as well. *nom nom...gulp*. I assume you had been to that shop asking, and not some other half-orc. *glug glug glug*. Anyway, it was odd, almost as soon as I heard that I had a vision of you with an orc's axe in your head. I'm glad you're safe, but if your uncle uses an axe you may want to be ready to duck when you are fighting him.
Zeoll and his dog Thursday May 6th, 2010 7:33:24 AM
Zeoll suggests to Ransy that the two get back to the others and tell what they found. And then the whole group can come back tonite for further investigations. Those who are less socially adept can sit in the back in case things get rough. Them what gots some social graces can work the crowd.

Maikill gulps down his food and listens to Beri's words.
"Yes, I talk to lot of people. Need find uncle."
when mention of the vision of an axe in his head, Maikill shrugs
"That probably how I die. I kill others with axe, it fair I die by axe too. First, I find uncle. Then I die it no matter."
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Thursday May 6th, 2010 12:21:18 PM
Bosk enters the room a little more noisily than usual as he gets used to walking on his new shoes. Despite a long day of questioning he was unable to find any answers, but he was glad to find someone who would put an addition on the building. It would be nice to have a room of his own, even if there would be little room for anything other than a bed.
When Sanji brings out the meal his stomach growls audibly. This smells terrific. You really have outdone yourself this time. When Ransy and Zeoll relay what they found the cleric asks what the plan is. Do we set up a reconnaissance or should we try to gather more information before we move in? My suggestion is that we try to claim the reward for the brain eater tonight and do a little more investigating in the morning. From what Grendel told us, an Ilithad is a formidable foe and thanks to the helm of disguise we will not know what he looks like. We will have to be careful who we ask questions of and very observant.
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Thursday May 6th, 2010 1:26:37 PM
Ransy enjoys the meal which Sanji made very much and compliments him: that was really tasty; I think your cooking is improving, keep up the good work!
He then suggests: I think it's best if Zeoll and I take a look at the Madrigal Inn tonight. Vellinius doesn't know us yet, we have only recently joined this party. So even if he's there disguised, that doesn't matter. We'll just listen very carefully and keep our eyes open, acting as if we're two guards with a night off.
Sanji -- DM Jim Thursday May 6th, 2010 4:33:18 PM
Sanji, who is a woman of 10 and 9 years, thanks everyone for their compliments. If only they knew it was pure luck that she didn't ruin yet again another meal.
"So you're all heading out tonight to go after this mindflayer?" Sanji asked, "or just some of you?" ------ ooc: besides Beri, who else wanted to have a room for them built? Bosk? Currently the shop has three bedrooms upstairs that is occupied by Hemust and Jillian(master suite), and Sanji(guest room). That leaves 1 small bedroom and the floor downstairs, altogether holding 5 people somewhat uncomfortably--however there are 5 medium sized and 2 large sized people, and a dog--very cramped as of right now. Two more rooms won't cut it.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Thursday May 6th, 2010 5:04:40 PM

Rooms -- DM Jim Thursday May 6th, 2010 8:33:46 PM
All in all, you guys need 5 more rooms in addition to the 3 already paid to be built tomorrow. That'll leave the shop floor empty and 1 guest room upstairs empty and one in the new wing empty (for that 8th player). it should be noted that a standard 10'x10' room is going to be cramped for a large creature such as Bosk and Zeoll.

ooc: since we have time before we leave, can we take 20 on a disguise check?
I think it is best if we all go, but since Velinius knows who we are I suggest we all take some time to change up our appearance a little so that we are harder to recognize. Since Maikill and myself are the largest, I suggest that one of the two of us use the helm of disguise.
Sorry no. Since the normal time to prepare a disguise is 1d3 x 10 minutes, Taking 20 could be quicker, which is not what they intended. If anyone is going to adopt a disguise, please list your bonus, if any, and what you're attempting to change in your appearance. I make the final roll as per the rules. DM Jim
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Friday May 7th, 2010 1:13:58 AM It may be a better idea to have Zeoll and Ransy head in first, and the rest of us can follow about 20 minutes after them. That will give them time to scope things out before the increased chance of detection when we are all there. I also agree with bosk, if we have the time we should take a while to make sure we are well disguised before entering. There is no reason for us to take unnecessary chances.

Getting back from his errands, the catacombs, looking for info on the Inn and enjoying Hook City as a whole. He comes into the shop just as everyone has finished eating, which he had done while walking around. He nods to everyone, and leans aganist the wall, spell book in hand. Listening to the conversations going on around him.
Valla isn't pressed about his living space at the moment, We are hardly ever here anyways. I'll sleep on the couch again.
When its brought up about the group splitting up again, aganist the mindflayer of all things, Your crazy. Going alone isn't a bad idea, its probably the worst. Did you guys forget the Fake Yosef's head explosion? It nearly killed me. I'll not have that happen again. We should go together. A few minutes apart, maybe. But no more than five or so. Twenty leaves way too much time for something bad to happen. Valla talks fast, running his words together. The elf is obviously scared of the Mindflayer.
If we can think of a way to get him outside the shop here. Instead of meeting him on his turf. That would be a good idea. Its a shame we couldn't find out much about the Inn.
Maikill HP 39/39, AC17 Friday May 7th, 2010 10:36:03 AM "Maybe we wait outside, and they warn us if need help. If head explode, we hear that. Come quick."

Heading out to the inn the company heads South to the waters edge and spy the wooden building out on the water--it was as Zeoll and Ransy had described. At this time of night it's becoming quite busy. The sound of music, singing and the smell of barbeque permeate the air. A few longboats and skiffs lay tied up and slowly knocking against the building supports and walkway surrounding the building and a few people are walking and talking about the wraparound veranda. --------- Who's going in? Who's staying outside and for how long? State your actions please :)

As the party finishes up dinner Beri heads upstairs to put on a disguise. I don't think I have the skills to fool somebody who is searching for me, but it is probably wise to hide a few minor traits so I am not immediately recognizable by those just casual glancing in my direction. Besides, most of my equipment has been changed in the last two days.
Beri decides to stick with a simple change in hair color, opting to go blond on this occasion. He spends some time in the bathroom carefully removing the braids from his hair and lightening it to the desired shade. As it dries he decides he likes the way it looks hanging straight and leaves it that way.
Beri will be the first to head into the tavern after Zeoll and Ransy. After ordering a pint from the bar he will find a shadowy location off to the side (one that feels it will give him the option to flank/stealth should things look bad) and will wait for the rest of the party.

Zeoll enters the tavern with his dog. He is armored; come to think of it, so is his dog. He enters with those who are new on the scene. Those who might be recognized can come in later or wait outside.
The liontaur would not be surprised if he is an unusual sight. If so, he'll use it. Being a center of attention, he can voice toasts, offer compliments, schmooze and chat. He can, when he deems it might be received well, offer a song and some music. He can use a Ghost Sound cantrip to aid his voice, and he sings about making the best you can with the hard knocks life hands you, in a bit of a Mudtown accent, as best he can do with a liontaur's teeth rolling those RRs. Part of the tune goes something like this:
Good ol' Warrdd rrolls dice against ya, And the Crrones crross eyes and starre! And the justicarr has sensed ya Maybe took morre than yerr sharre! So ya take what life's dispensed ya, And ya just trry not to carre!
Perform check at +1 with Ghost Sound: a 10, gosh darn it.
Well, maybe he can laugh it off. "Buy me a drrink, boys, my thrroat surre needs it tonight!" Diplomacy 26, not too shabby.

The Madrigal -- DM Jim Saturday May 8th, 2010 2:01:56 PM
With a confident gait, Zeoll walks into the inn and finds it very busy on the inside. There is little room for him to move without bumping into someone and the flick of his tail brings a few choice comments from others there. As he approaches the bar, the barkeep behind the counter says, "Hey, we don't serve your kind! Can't 'cha read?" He points to a sign hanging on the wall behind him that reads, NO TAURS! Thinking that maybe his singing could win them over, it falls on deaf ears, as too does his attempt to get a drink or two (-10 Diplomacy roll since they're not going to let you talk for a full minute to sway them and they're unfriendly). "Likes I said, we don't serve your kind, so get lost!"
It was about this time Beri enters the inn and saunters up to the bar and orders a drink. Another barkeep helps him quickly and fills his order, "1 copper, please." Looking around, there are no dark or shady areas to slink off to. The place is pretty crowded and there is a small band playing in the corner. Taking a sip of the ale, it's the worst he's ever drank in his life--he does notice others buying a more premium ale at the cost of 1 silver a tankard. (please make a FORT Save)
"Hey, you, half-orc!" The call comes from the window behind Maikill and he turns to see a serving wench leaning out of it, "You need a drink?"
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Saturday May 8th, 2010 2:41:45 PM
Ransy enters the Madrigal as well, and keeps a distance from Zeoll and Beri. He looks around a bit at the folks gathered there and tries to find someone who looks like a merchant's guard and who is not engaged in conversation. He then approaches such a person and says: Hi, I am quite new to this town. Do you know of any merchants hiring mercenaries? By the way, can I offer you a drink?
The Madrigal -- DM Jim Saturday May 8th, 2010 3:09:45 PM
The man, all dressed in black leather, looks Ransy up and down in an appreciating manner. "Why yes handsome, you can!" It was about this time that the paladin noticed something was a little different about this place, but he just couldn't put his finger on it.
Beri, just overcoming the effects of the sour ale, hears, "Hello mate." Turns and sees a large muscular blonde man addressing him. "Be careful of the dregs, that stuff will turn your insides black as pitch and you'll be running for the outhouse for days." The man extends his hand and introduces himself, "The name is Roht, I haven't seen you in here before. I love what you've done with your hair, do you believe in love at first sight?" Beri's discerning eye looked at the mans' hand, then quickly about the place and it was then that he noticed something strange--there were no women in here. The serving wenches were dressed as women, but Beri could see that they all had Adam's apples, and then he saw two men walking down the stairs from the second floor rooms--holding hands.

Although the magic of the helm had changed him into a half-orc in appearance, his size was not altered, which drew the stares of many a patron. The barkeep eyes Bosk curiously and is about to say something, but is positive the half-orc is just that, a half-orc. The serving wench nearest him smiles, "Well, a man as big as you need something just as big, eh? What'll you be drinking?"
In a husky, yet sultry voice, "Aye love, be right back!" Soon enough, the serving wench returns with a tankard of ale for Maikill, "1 silver, suge." After paying, the killer of witches takes a sip and smiles at the heady, tasty brew.

Any man who knows what he wants believes in love at first sight, but you sir do not appear to be carrying a tankard of ale large enough to satisfy me. He takes the guys hand and shakes it and smiles at the guy. Lets forgo the witty banter, real men have much more exciting things to talk about. Surely you have some tales of interest to share...

Ransy gets the drinks and talks to the man (OOC: can I call him John?) He thinks to himself: am I gay? Well, perhaps or perhaps not. But is this a good place to find out? I don't think so. I really think one should be in love before getting to the 'very friendly' part.
Ransy tries to make clear that he'd like to get to know the man better before touching and getting touched. Luckily his armor is in the way, so he can't be touched that intimately yet. If the man persists in being 'very friendly', Ransy will say: "You're very friendly, John. But I hardly know your name. Are you looking for a one-night stand? I don't think I am the right person for that.

I really suggest you leave with your life while you can--and don't come back." The man then rises, leaving his drink behind and walks over to another table to a group of friends from the looks of it--his jovial demeanor returning as he greets them in unison.

As his comrades slowly exit the bar the cleric begins to regret his upcoming actions even before he takes it. Although he had no prejudices against the individuals in the bar, such a place promoted one night unions that were not only incapable of creating new life, but also encouraged such acts among people who for the most part had not intention to commit. This is a place of chaos. He thinks to himself. They are taking a gift and making a mockery of it. Turning a ritual designed to forever unite two souls into a recreational activity, turning ones intentions inward and using another for their own self gratification... as a means to an end. Also, we never asked anyone to identify our fate items (the wickedly curved daggers)....now where can we find a helpful bard :)

The Madrigal -- DM Jim d20+7=10 ; Wednesday May 12th, 2010 12:22:18 PM
Valla finishes incanting his spell in a strong voice and then proceeds to scan the area of the inn, just a little ways outside and in front of it's main doors. He notices small areas of magic throughout the inn--more than likely magic items. As he finishes he notices most of the patrons nearest him, and there were a few, have run away. What he also notices are a few men, big men, rushing toward him. The first one pushes him back and yells, "What do you think you're doing?!" It was also at this time that he noticed the man had a drawn longsword in his right hand, it's blade lightly glowing, and so too did his friend behind him.
The presence of magic, in spell form or otherwise, is rare in Mudtown.

Zeoll and his dog Wednesday May 12th, 2010 7:03:10 PM
Um, sorry, is Valla inside or outside? Can Zeoll see those approaching? His loud perfect song did nothing to cover the casting? Oh well. Seems you should have walked away a few hundred feet, then cast and returned while concentrating!
Also note that I got away with casting a ghost sound to help my performance. Full disclosure.
Were you trying to Fascinate people? Sorry, I didn't read that in your post. Also, a Nat20 for skills don't mean autosuccess, but you should know that :) Furthermore, all spells unless they have no verbal component or use the Silent metamagic feat, must be said in a strong voice as per the DMG. Bosk, still disguised as the half-orc turns and leaves with Valla. After they are out of hearing he reminds Valla of their first battle together. After the battle, during which the taur was severely wounded, he almost got attacked again in a bar for praying to Gargul that his wounds might be healed. Fortunately, the result of his spell was obvious enough that no one did, but many were clearly prepared for the worst and ready to attack.
The Madrigal -- DM Jim Thursday May 13th, 2010 1:21:35 PM
With the situation resolved by Bosk escorting Valla away and reminding him of a certain situation that happened a few weeks ago, the group finds an out of sight spot to regroup. In the short time Valla had to scan the area, he did note a greater potency of magic upstairs in one area (SE corner; Top of map is N.)

Letting Bosk handle the situation; Valla nods his head when the memory is triggered. When Bosk was nearly attacked for healing himself in a tavern. I'll be more careful next time, I had figured Zeoll's song would be louder than my spell; figuring no one would notice to much... He takes the helm, puts it on, and after a few trys Valla mutters Shizzlebop and sees himself as a busty female elf, perfect face, dressed in a red dress with white trim. Golden hair and green eyes. Also looking a bit shorter, 5'3".
A female would get more done around here than I would....
He makes his way back to his party, speaking in a hushed voice, he fills them in. There are magic aura's within this tavern. For Magic to be rare in mudtown, it seems pretty common here. The most intense aura appeared upstairs in the south east corner of the building. Any suggestions? Thoughts? Comments?
----ooc----
I kinda figured with the party making noise, the people around me making noise, and Zeoll singing would have drown out a 'powerful voice'. Especially a singing liontaur. He'd have to be louder than my spell to be heard. Im not really complaining; it just didn't make a bunch of sense to me, and thought it was worth saying...
it was the sparkly lights and strange hand movements combined with the exhultation of releasing magic into the air that drew attention to you :) That and the fact you were standing in front of the door with people all around you. A better place would have been in the water, under the building :) DM Jim

Ransy says, after pondering what to do: "[b]I think we should go into one of the boats and stay at 500 ft. from this Madrigal and observe it. Then, early in the morning, when everything has gone quiet, because the gay men are drunk and asleep, we should get close again. I'll detect evil, someone else detect magic. If we are sure there's evil magic in there, we'll challenge the monster to come out and face us!
Sorry, I can't allow illegal entering. It would be nice to have a legal representative here, who could give us the right to search the building for an illithid, but alas, that's not the case."[b]
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Friday May 14th, 2010 1:45:58 PM
OOC: a little discussion with the DM, has changed my outlook a bit.
Thinking again, Ransy says: well, perhaps we should take it upon us to represent the laws here. If there's an evil monster in there, we'll have the right to stop it. I'll look for it at the south-eastern corner right away..
Ransy starts detect evil and walks around the building, outside, but looking inwards, towards especially towards the upper floor in the south-eastern corner.
The building is surrounded on three sides by water, will you go into the water? DM Jim
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 d20+2=18 ; Friday May 14th, 2010 2:47:16 PM
No, Ransy will not go into the water. He will walk first along the frontside, detecting evil. Then he will stop detecting, because he intends to go inside, and it would be suspicious if he would come in with a stern concentrated face. So he comes in with a joyful face, greeting Cesar and getting a seat next to him, saying: "I thought I saw you going in here; how are you, buddy?. He then speaks in a whisper to Cesar: "we shouldn't stay long here, I have been warned by one of the regulars." He then looks around whether other people are keeping an eye on him. Spot 18.
Detect evil -- DM Jim d20=13 ; Friday May 14th, 2010 4:26:59 PM
Ransy moves back out of cover from the Madrigal and walks up to the shoreline. His concentration is intense and he notes a couple spots of evil in the downstairs area and a strong sense of evil coming from the upstairs SE corner that Valla pointed out.
Heading inside he sidles up to Cesar and whispers to him his secret message--hopefully no one else heard him. Looking about he doesn't notice anything particularly dangerous, but several men are intently watching them--their motive uncertain.

"I don't think we should, Tolly." "Pfft, did you see him singing out there, he was awesome." Burke replies, "He may be drunk, but I concur, he was pretty awesome." The pair stood there, then quietly made their decision together and approached the liontaur and his crew cautiously.
"Uh, excuse me mister liontaur," the young man said, addressing Zeoll, "I hope we're not intruding, but my friend and I were wondering if you were in a band, or singing in a nearby tavern."
"Yes, yes, my friend speaks the truth, we couldn't help but hear you out in front of that place," the young man's friend points to the Madrigal, "and we thought it was great. Is this your band?"

Although Bosk tries to pitch in, it really doesn't help that much and the look of disappointment is obvious on the men's faces, however, after talking a bit, their demeanors change back to the friendly faces Zeoll first met. You sense their motive is true in that they're who they say they are.
Zeoll and his dog Saturday May 15th, 2010 9:17:03 AM
Zeoll takes a closer look at Tolly and Burke. Are they wearing arms or armor? Are their hands calloused like laborers? Do either of them have backbacks, the kind that a wizard might use to carry a book? He's trying to suss out what they do. They say they are looking for lucrative work ... Zeoll tries to figure out what they mean, or outright asks them if he can't. Diplomatically of course.
"Surre, therre is worrk to be had arround herre, all kinds. What is it you arre good at doing ... just because me and my pals might have hearrd of something that would suit you."
If he has not already, Zeoll tells them his name, and Zeoll adds that he hopes to see them again. He says that he'll be playing aroundabouts whenever people want some music, and thanks.
[OOC: Holy Moley! Here we are going into danger and I have not picked my spells! I better do that now!]
Once Zeoll's newest friends have departed, he says to his only somewhat new friends near him, "I know the mysterries of two-leggerr society continue to elude me, but why can't we all just walk up, tell the innocent to leave, and challenge the evil ones to fight. Afterr all, we have a paladin to pick out the bad guys. Rright?"

Tolly & Burke -- DM Jim d20=16 ; d20=15 ; Saturday May 15th, 2010 1:53:25 PM
The pair of young men look like farmers or laborers, not much else can be told. They explain they came here by way of working for a merchant as guards and heard they could do the same here. After this they get the distinct feeling that they should be moving on, since Zeoll has tactfully ended the conversation by saying he hopes to see them around. Saying their goodbyes, they depart, leaving the group to discuss it's plan further in relative privacy.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Saturday May 15th, 2010 3:32:59 PM
Beriothian watches the two leave, and tries to decide what to do next. It doesn't look like we are finding anything downstairs. I hate to say this, but I think we may need to get a room upstairs. Being stealthy I can head up first and look around, and we can have other groups follow up in short intervals. If there are no objections is there anyone else that wants to go up?
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Sunday May 16th, 2010 12:56:58 AM
The cleric looks over at Beri. I think our roguish friend is right. He can sneak upstairs for a look around and will draw the least suspicion. Be careful though. Our biggest disadvantage is that they won't let Zeoll and myself into the building, so our party will be split up. Not that I don't trust you, but it mat take Zeoll and I a few minutes if we need to fight our way past the two men with swords. I suppose if everyone else is inside we could have half the group meet up with you and one or two hang back with Zeoll and I.
Just remember, this is all reconnaissance. Although there is no "Law" in Mud Town except for what we make, it will be hard to explain to people that we are looking for a shape changing ilithad whose only crime is manipulating people who voluntarily joined his cult and who, due to Temujin's handy work, are no longer among us and and as such cannot questioned to verify his guilt. Also, considering our primary source of information came from Temujin, AKA the "Braineater"... I don't see his testimony helping us.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Sunday May 16th, 2010 1:36:54 AM
Beri casts a sharp glance in Bosk's direction His crime his sneaking up behind me like a coward and trying to get at my brains. I don't know if he was trying to shove a worm in me, or was just looking for an afternoon snack, but I have every intention of paying him back ten fold. This may be reconnaissance, but the mind flay is guilty, and I when we take him down I will make sure he suffers to his last breath.

Zeoll thinks a moment longer. "Maybe I should thrrow some alchemical firres on the building. Maybe with an obscuring mist? Could it hurrt? Otherwise, I got nothing."
By the way, let me ask again, good mister DM. How many armed guard/bouncer types are outside the building? Located where? How many people are in the tavern? It was awful tight in there. Are there windows? If Zeoll stood in the doorway and cast Obscuring Mist, would the mist fill both in and out? How many bouncers/guards has Zeoll seen on the inside?
How many exits are there from the building?

"Okay, so herre is my suggestion."
"One, those of us who cannot enterr without a fight, like us Taurrs, wait just outside the frront doorr."
"Two, at least one perrson waits just inside to see what goes on. That perrson is a look-out, and will shout if those outside need to enterr, forr example, if therre is a fight."
"Thrree, those still inside of courrse will stay inside until they arre done doing what they arre doing."
"Fourr, eitherr those inside will find a rresolution, orr get in a fight, orr come back outside. If therre is a rresolution, then fine. If therre is a fight, then the Taurrs will come in and join. Ransy: I wanted to tell you that I have detected strong evil in the SE room here upstairs. Valla has detected magic there, so that's probably where the mind flayer is. Does this room have a window? then we can let som eof the others in.
Ransy will hang a rope out of one of the windows if possible and tries to silently get the others' attention.
Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 23 Tuesday May 18th, 2010 9:22:12 AM "You're actually serious on trying to get the others ti sneak up in here through the window? The Madrigal is packed full of people and quite a few patrons are on the outside too... they'll be spotted in no time! Why don't we just call them up? Maybe Bosk and Zeoll can wait outside considering how the other patrons reacted to having taurs around, but I really don't see anything bad on a couple of friends joining us in this room. Let's see if they are within ears reach and let's just give them a call!"
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 d20+2=3 ; Tuesday May 18th, 2010 11:20:55 AM
Ransy says while looking out the window: You're probably right. I'll not hang a rope here. But don't you think it will be suspicious if we get a lot of people up here. I don't think that's a good idea either.
Ransy does not attach the rope, but he looks around if he can spot a way to enter their room unseen from outside. Spot = 3 (Oops)
Madrigal, No windows -- DM Jim Tuesday May 18th, 2010 11:56:32 AM
There are no windows in the place, on either level, or I would have stated such :)
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells Tuesday May 18th, 2010 12:16:37 PM
Bosk nods as Zeoll offers a few suggestion. The only problem is that there are about 30 people inside who will not be happy if we start a fight. We need to make sure our actions do not draw any more attackers than is necessary. Perhaps we should wait until later at night when more guests have cleared out before we make our move. Unless of course, one of our more magically inclined companions has a trick up their sleeve.

The evening slowly moves by. Both the Taurs and Valla stand outside out of the way of the Madrigal and continue talking tactics, while inside, two pair of intrepid adventurers check out their rooms--they are sparse in comparison to most inns. Neither have a window and the only furniture is a bed, with obviously soiled sheets and a single nightstand with a thick lit candle in a protective iron holder nailed in place. If I don't address a specific spot or listen roll, nothing out of the ordinary is discerned. If your roll is unusually high, I may address it to let you know that you see or hear a lot of stuff, but nothing unusual in nature. DM Jim

There is a single lit candle in a wall sconce up there, so it's pretty dark. There is a little space under the door, enough to see room #1 (strange hissing sound coming from it) & #3 is occupied, but room #4 is dark. Locks look standard, but looks can be deceiving. DM Jim

Zeoll wonders if there is a trap door or other access to the ceiling.
"Are you much at climbing, Bosk?" he asks softly in Tauric, the pre-sundering language that once upon a time united all the Taurs. "I wonder if we should be thinking of another way in."
Note that Zeoll has no accent speaking in Tauric, of course.
"Here," he says to Bosk, "hold my shield." In this way he avoids a lot of armor check and encumberance penalties for a moment.
Zeoll reaches into his pack, puts his hands on his silk rope and starts tying knots in it, trying to be covert. With knots, it will be easier to use it to ascend if the need should arise. If that takes a skill check, then his untrained Use Rope check is a 19. That should do. to get it knotted. But can Zeoll do so without being detected? That will take some Sleight of Hand, and Zeoll has ranks in that. His Sleight of Hand check is a 24! Sweet!
He looks at the side of the building. How high is it to the roof, and how hard would it be to climb?
Who is actually nearby? Doing what?
He tells Bosk in a quiet tone in their common Tauric tongue, "What about this plan: (1) Take this rope and tie it to yourself, allowing it to dangle. (2) Ready an action, to climb to the roof as soon as I finish casting Obscuring Mist. (3) I cast the spell. (4) Your action would interrupt mine, so you could climb up with the rope. Then (5) My action resumes, and I would climb up after you, using the rope. Finally, (6) Valla climbs up as well, and pulls the rope up after him."
"Before anyone else can react, we will have disappeared in the mist. Not to shabby for creatures as big as us. We can crawl on the roof and look for a secret or trap door in."
OOC: Another option might be for Bosk to jump up, grab the lip of the roof, and pull himself up. As a large humanoid, he has a reach up of 16 feet, per the Jump skill rules. And it looks like Bosk is at +4 to jump, but only +3 to climb (PC sheet has a typo, though).
Maybe the DM will give us a sense of the rolls needed to make this work, if it is even possible.

People continue to mill about the Madrigal, inside and out of it on the covered walkaround porch. Zeoll examines the building a bit more from the groups vantage point about 50' away. The building itself is 20' tall, but since it's surrounded by water, it would be about a 30' distance to the roof except in front of the door on the pier. The problem would be where to attach the rope when thrown, unless a grappling hook were available, if it were, it would be easy (DC5). Disabling the trap -- DM Jim Saturday May 22nd, 2010 9:35:40 PM
This time the sting wasn't as bad, maybe Beri was building a tolerance to the poison, maybe he had removed all the poison from the needle tips due to being stung by them--clever, very clever. Still actively trapped, the doorknob--his nemesis, stared back a him void of any emotion.
Bosk (James) AC: 19/11/18 HP 31 of 31 Spells d20+2=3 ; d20+2=19 ; d20+3=19 ; d20+4=21 ; Saturday May 22nd, 2010 9:36:50 PM
If a rope is lowered and cover is available, Bosk will lift Valla onto the roof and will attempt to climb the rope if one is lowered. He will then look for enemies and a way into the building. He will also listen for the Ilithad or members from the group (in case he tries to break through the roof).
Zeoll and his dog Saturday May 22nd, 2010 9:45:37 PM
OOC: Wait wait wait wait! That's not it at all, oh brother Taur!
(1) Walk up to the building. Valla has the rope.
(2) Tell dog to guard about ten feet forward.
(3) Cast Obscuring Mist.
(4) Bosk lifts Valla up to the roof.
(5) Valla grabs on to the eave, climbs up, sets a large dagger firmly into the roof, wraps the rope around the dagger hilt a few times, braces himself.
I'm hoping we can do all this in two rounds. With the mist and the dog buying us some time, no one will know we are up there. Then we try to find a trap or secret door. Alternately, we can make a "door" with acid and ax.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 d20+10=11 ; Saturday May 22nd, 2010 10:06:49 PM
Beriothian temporarily ponders whether he should just take the lamp oil from his backpack, douse the door, and use the candle from his room on it. He dwells on this thought for several seconds, vividly imagining the joy of torching this cursed door. Still, third time's the charm (well... fourth).
Beri once again takes his tools and tackles the lock, being as quiet as possible, though apparently the repeated stings of the needle have taken a noticeable tole on his fingers. Beri hopes the noises coming from the other room will mask his actions, but he prepares to dive behind Maikill at a moments notice....

Maikill HP 39/39, AC17 Saturday May 22nd, 2010 10:23:09 PM
Maikill becomes worried at the continued attempts by Beri to open the door. Certainly anyone inside would know by now that someone is at the door. He holds his axe up and motions for Beri to move out of the way, making movements with his axe and pointing at the door.
Madrigal -- DM Jim Saturday May 22nd, 2010 10:38:18 PM
ooc: Zeoll, when you say "walk up to the building", you mean on the pier to about 10' in front of the front door? Or out in the water?

The Thrice Accursed Doorknob -- DM Jim d20+10=16 ; Saturday May 22nd, 2010 10:40:34 PM
Beri tries to disable the trap laying in wait in the accursed doorknob. This time the needles do not spring out, but he is uncertain if the trap is disabled or not without trying out the doorknob itself. It stares back at him and if it could make a face, it would be sticking it's tongue out.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Saturday May 22nd, 2010 10:48:43 PM
Beriothian turns to Maikill, shrugs his shoulders, and trades places with him so that he can open the door, allowing the guy with dark vision and thick armor to do the honors.
Zeoll and his dog Saturday May 22nd, 2010 11:00:59 PM
What would stop us from just walking up to say, 7J on this map?
Sorry if I didn't make it clear from before, but the whole wraparound porch is covered by the roof. So you can walk there, but the roof would be overhead. Dm Jim
Zeoll and his dog Saturday May 22nd, 2010 11:28:19 PM
The roof to the porch is 20 feet up?
No, it's only 10' up to the underside of the roof. The place is shaped like a square mushroom. Dm Jim
Zeoll and his dog Sunday May 23rd, 2010 7:16:30 AM
Ooooh! So the interior of the first level is basically 20x40 (the stem of the mushroom), while the interior of the second level is basically 40x60 (the cap of the mushroom)?
Yes, sorry I didn't explain it better, but I knew what I was looking at :) lol Dm Jim
Zeoll and his dog Sunday May 23rd, 2010 7:28:51 AM
So the revised plan looks like this:
ROUND 1
Zeoll moves to 11-12-O-P. His dog moves to 11N. Zeoll casts Obscuring Mist. Bosk moves to 13-14-O-P. He readies an action to hoist Valla up to the roof. Valla moves to 15-P. With Bosk's help, he is hoisted up and then clambers to the roof.
Second half of round 1 might see Zeoll attacked, I suppose.
ROUND 2
Valla drives a dagger into the roof to use as a brace, gets set with the rope, and tosses it down. Bosk climbs up as a move action, readies an action to pull up the rope as soon as Zeoll is up. Zeoll uses a withdraw action, climbs up. Bosk pulls up the rope. Dog holds off pursuit.
And we're in like flynn!
Maikill HP 39/39, AC17 d20+5=7 ; d20+5=7 ; d20+1=5 ; Sunday May 23rd, 2010 9:42:40 AM
Maikill nods at Beri and moves over towards the door, trying his best to be quiet and sneaky. He places one hand on the door knob while holding his axe in the other. A look over his shoulder at Ransy, Cesar and Beri says he is ready when they give the go ahead.

Cesar - HP 29/29, AC 23 Sunday May 23rd, 2010 12:35:30 PM
Cesar is ready to intervene if anything should happen, hand ready at his newly bought heavy mace...
Ransy AC 21/12/20 Hp 23/23 Sunday May 23rd, 2010 3:26:17 PM
Ransy is standing ready at the open door of room #1, his right hand on his bastard sword, which is in its scabbard. he gives the thumps up to Maikill.
