A New Day

A new day (coDm Glenn)
Thursday May 27th, 2010 4:43:02 PM

Much happens during and Malgant's Ceremony, but it is now over and done with. The group has rested, trained and equipped themselves with new and powerful items.

Feeling too rested, Aztyr seeks out Bardamion of the Cloudprance Family in the morning armed with questions. She find Bardamion in the main room of the tavern, reading a some letters and sipping a cup of hot tea. Having asked her questions, Bardamion sets the letters aside, "Continued association? Yes, while you and your friends do have your own style, its the resulted that count. There is still much work to be done in the Wold. I've heard some disturbing reports from the area north of the Tear of the Woods. Roomers of band of marauding giants. Stories of a plague killing livestock. Also, some sort of fair being held in Adurath a small town along the border of Izen badlands and Culverwoods. This on top whatever is wrong at the Tear of the Woods. You could start with any of those."

Moderate Fortification, AC 29, 128/128 hp Malgant
Thursday May 27th, 2010 6:08:41 PM

After his morning devotions, Malgant comes down to the common room in the suite for a bite of breakfast. Coming in on Bardamion's listing of the troubles of the Wold, Malgant offers his opinion." The refugees first as far as I am concerned. They have no one else. I'll not stand by and see them Heartseeded simply because they have nowhere to run. If the other problems present themselves while pursuing a home for the refugees then so be it. I thought you needed us for more pressing matters than a few giants though. No new leads on Teucri artifacts or are you afraid we will break another one?"

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 52+20/52)
Thursday May 27th, 2010 8:51:21 PM

Whysper joins those that have already awakened. She helps herself to a fresh breakfast of fruits, cheeses and breads. It would be quite easy to get used to the quality of the food provided by the Cloudprance family. Sitting herself down on one of the cushions on the floor, she lays Kage down beside her with a piece cheese to keep him happy.

"So, what are our plans? As much as I enjoy spending time here, and the hospitality of the Cloudprance family, I'm sure there are things that require our attention."

Appolo
Friday May 28th, 2010 1:48:17 AM

Appolo wakes in the morning washes packs up his gear and heads done to breakfast.Walking over to Malgant"Well big guy how'd your night go.She didn't wear you out did she."Appolo says witha smile on his face."So were to now,Are we going looking for the big uglies or are going to set up camp somewhere and let them come to us for a change.I hope we get a shot at some G'aalians.Take thier hearts and heartseeds.Oh also I wouldn't put it past the Son's and whictches of G'aal to work with this Dread fool.I mran if they felt it was in thier interests to do so."

Vorelle
Friday May 28th, 2010 1:51:41 AM

In the morning, Vorelle takes Champ out for some exercise. When she returns, the others are discussing what to do next. "I'd like to help the refugees," she says. "Or if not, I'd like to make sure somebody is taking care of it."

"Refugees sound like a good choice. Besides I'd rather not deal with giants unless were properly equipped. I only had one experience with giants and its not something I'd like to go through again anytime soon." Valanthe says as she comes downstairs..

Vauhwyt and Mookie  d10+10=18 ;
Friday May 28th, 2010 2:49:47 PM

"Val, Vorelle, and Mal want to help the refugees. Appolo wants to make a camp and let the enemies come to us. Whysper, Ashira, and Aztyr have not offered an opinion."

Vauhwyt offers some small news from Dirt City. "The Prince is expecting refugees. We can send people there and they will find a haven. The Prince told me that a Dirt City mine was taken over by the Dread a while back, but it has been quiet since then." Vauhwyt reminds Vorelle that the city, or some Houses, anyway, have tried to mine the area between Mount Bone and Dirt City in the past, usually with bad results.

"I suggest that the first thing we want to do is run a few patrols along the west coast of Blackbird Lake. See if we find any refugees. If so. direct them to Acid City and then to Dirt City."

"That means we have to contact a merchant house in Acid City" -- the liontaur looks expectantly at the dragons here -- "so that when refugees get there they can expect fair or free passage to Dirt City."

She asks Bardamion outright, "Maybe the noble Cloudprance Family can help with that?"

"After we do at least an initial run in the west, we should head east to The Tears of the Wood to find out what's happening there."

She is ready to help teleport the party to the Acid City area, which she knows fairly well, to start with.

Malgant gets a little pale at the mention of Blackbird Forest. " We won't...we won't have to go through the Blackbird Forest again will we. I have a strong dislike for that place. Aztyr can scry on the Inn where we had our victory party and we can land there since both of you know where that is. Only question I have is what do we do with Kage and Uel? To my knowledge he doesn't know where we are going. If we keep Kage with us he could scry on him to find us but won't moving Kage far away from him hurt one or both of them?"

Friday May 28th, 2010 5:53:51 PM

Aztyr looks at Malgant,"I'm not actually sure Mal. Jynx has been a couple miles away from me before, but even then I had no ill effects from being apart from him.
As to our next action, I think we can slip two of them together. Stopping by Acid City first is a great idea, and the fact that they owe us a favor or three for stopping the blight, should gain the refugees we send there a passage to Dirt City, where ever that is.
But if we head to the Tears of the Wood to assist the refugee problem, shouldn't that be near this Fair that Bardamion mentioned that we could look into? As well as bringing into probable contact with those that caused the refugees to leave in the first place.
That seems like our best course of action, allowing us to look into the most problems at the same time."

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Friday May 28th, 2010 8:09:26 PM

OOC: Oh, no need for the use of the extend. Save it for something better, like the Heroism Vauhwyt will cast on you later. I may myself buy a rod of extend when I get more loot, and then I can cast extend on your GMW and you can use yours on my MV. If you like, I'll use it to extend your GMW now to 24 hours, which seems more fair to me.

Vauhwyt chuckles. "Mal, the forest is not bad, really. Exciting, but safe if you have a black-feathered friend along."

Mookie puffs out his chest feathers and looks proud of being himself.

"But no worries," she says. "We have two sorcerers who can teleport now, so we can together move the entire party in one round."

"Acid City is on the coast of the great southern ocean," the liontaur explains to her sister Taur, "and Dirt City is on the same coast, about 200 miles further east, hugging the shorre."

Vauhwyt waits to see what anyone else has to say. Privately, she is a little sad, thinking that it is a shame they are not gathering any refugees to a new town on the water's edge of Blackbird Lake. "After all, the game is called 'Blackbird Lake,' you know," she thinks to herself. But she doesn't say anything.

Appolo
Friday May 28th, 2010 8:27:23 PM

Appolo puts in"I think helping the refugees is best we head for Blackbird Lake.Gather them up builda town anda base of operations.I say wee head for the Tears of the Wood Inn.That's the same place we met up at in the beginning anyways. As for giants well if need be we can deal with them as well."

"Keeping Kage with us will allow Uel to find us. Of that I'm certain. And based on what I can tell from Kage's behaviour, Uel has no objections." Whysper extends a hand to stroke Kage's fur. "As for where to from here, I have no opinion either way. I will go with the majority."

ooo that IS a third level spell for you. It's 4th for me and I can't use my lesser rod of extend on it, but you can!! Malgant will happily hand it to you to have the GMW extended.

Also, where wuld this fair be? from the sound of it not quite where we meant to head.

And yeah I would LOVE to do the town thing and really stick the BBlake name to something to hang the game name on. But it sounds like it is voted down. personally I think if we made the town out of GOOD people like was suggested and let them run it and just lived there it would work fine, but I am probably being short sighted somewhere.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Saturday May 29th, 2010 9:38:53 AM

Vauwhyt uses Mal's lesser rod of extend to boost the spell she casts on his weapon.

Mookie caws, "That's some double entendre there, Boss! Or something."

Vauwhyt shoves him in his carrying pouch. She does not bother to hush him. Maybe she is fighting to hold back a giggle?

[OOC: Vauwhyt still plans to make her village, if only as her own private residence, sometime in the future. But her friends would always be welcome there.]

Saturday May 29th, 2010 6:34:28 PM

(ooc: Sorry for missing friday's post, but I've been very busy, but I'm working on the post now.) .... Done

Bardamion smiles as Malgant, "If I recall correctly, you didn't break last Teucri artifact, but it turned out well anyway. As for the next Teucri artifact, we are not quite ready to send your group after it yet, but I though a few measly giants would keep you from getting board."

Whysper joins the planing session. Appolo suggest letting foe come to them, especially some G'aalians. Vorelle wishes to help the refugees. Seconding helping the refugees, Valanthe doesn't what to mess with giants.

Vauhwyt reports what she found in dirt city, and suggest they direct refugees there via Acid city as they take the scenic route to the Tear Inn Bardamion shrugs and look hurt by Vauhwyt's suggestion, "Free passage to dirt city for refugees, I suppose, even so it may bankrupt us."

Wondering about Uel, Malgant states he would like to avoid entering the Blackbird forest. Vauhwyt tease Mal, the the forest is so bad. Aztyr believes Acid city owes them some favors which should help with the refugee problem. She also, thinks the fair and Tears of the Woods are closes by. Bardamion answers that, "Yes, no more than two or three days by foot."

Appolo is for going directly to the Tear's of the Woods. Whysper will go with what the majority wants.

"I think we should check out the tears of the wood and then stop those giants. No doubt that scores of refugees have brought them out of their holes for easy pillaging. Giants are dangerous though the exact race could mean a lot. We should depart for the tears of the wood immediately and then revise our plan once we are there and see what the situation really is."

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 52+20/52)
Monday May 31st, 2010 3:45:59 AM

Hoping that Bardamion would not mind, Whysper stands and puts a couple of the breadrolls from breakfast in her pocket for the trip. "Ok, let's go." turning to Bardamion she asks a favour "Would you mind telling Uel, the drow of the party, where we've gone? He's busy enjoying the sights of the town for the time being. No doubt haggling with every merchant he finds. And just in case something happens, I'll leave Kage here too. You needn't worry about him, he really is very friendly." She lowers the rat to the floor, and lets him stretch his legs.

OOC: Count me in for the town building next downtime :)

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Monday May 31st, 2010 7:21:43 AM

"Now that we can teleport the whole party in a go, there is less worry about where we go, when, and how long it will take," says Vauhwyt. "I suggest we blip to Acid City, arrange for refugee helpers there, which should take about a day, then blip to the Tears of the Wood the next day."

She bows to Bardamion, and thanks him for his help for the refugees. She asks the name of a couple ship captains or of a trading house he would recommend, with whom he has done business.

She turns to her friends. "What we need is an agent in Acid City. Someone who will act for us while we are not there. Our best bet is to find a refugee from Acid City who cannot pay the tax. We can pay the tax for her and her family, if she will work for us. Her job will be to find refugees who come to the immediate area, lead them to the right trading house or ship, and get them passage to Dirt City."

"There's an innkeeper we know in Acid City, and a young priest. Those are good people to talk with first."

"The Innkeeper who we helped with the fresh water is an excellent place to start. Divide up the teleport groups while I gather my things and we are off. Uel can follow Kage to catch up. I will also wake Ashira and send her down."
Malgant heads upstairs To collect his haversack and shield. Before he gets them though he knocks at Ashira's room and once she is awake and decent he asks if he may speak to her. He tells her what Vauhwyt has planned and that they are about ready to go. He then approaches the other reason he wanted to speak to her in his usual manner.
To Ashira he asks," Have I done something to offend you? Has another priest offended you and you feel you need to shy away from me because of it? It does not bother me except that I am nearly the only source of healing in a fight in this group. If you do not trust me it could make combat...difficult. If I did something please say what it was so that I know the problem." He waits for her answer.

Aztyr waits till everyone is ready, closes her eyes and pictures the inn and it's front porch. She then asks Mal, Val and Whysper to grab a hold of her leather harness. She begins with a slow chanting which builds in tempo until her spell erupts into a flash of light, causing each member of her teleport group to feel like it's being squeezed, it suddenly releases and all four members are now standing in front of said inn, in the so called Acid City.

Acid City Stein and Trencher Inn (coDm Glenn)
Monday May 31st, 2010 11:29:58 PM

Valanthe votes for checking out the Tears of the Wood and giants.

Grabing some breadrolls, Whysper ask if Bardamion would give word to Uel and keep an eye on Kage. Bardamion looks at the rat, "Sure he'll be in good company."

Setting up the travel arrangements, Vauhwyt plans the first stop to be Acid City for about a day. Asking for some references on captains and trading houses, Bardamion sighs and with draws a sheet of paper and ink feather which he quickly jots down some names as a letter of reference, "I know just the company". When finished he hands it to Vauhwyt

Malgant gathers his stuff and speaks quietly with Ashira.

Counting heads, Aztyr is sure they have enough magic to transport everyone. She is still worried about Uel. She teleports first with Malgant, Val and Whysper showing up in the correct place a small Inn in Acid City.

Vauhwyt teleports second showing up at the Inn in Acid City just a few moments later with the rest of the group.

The group is standing outside the Stein an Trencher Inn of Acid City. Upon entering the place you see it is busy as usual and the same very robust middle age woman is still running the place, "Aye,
It's the adventures who fixed the water. What can I do for you today? Looking for rooms, a meal, or a bath house?"
You hear one of the customers call out, "Sally another around of ales." The middle aged woman calls back "Hold your horses, they'll be there in a moment."

After taking what she felt was fair value from the water he purified she sent the rest out to those who needed it in town. Malgant was counting on that generous streak now.
" Good innkeeper, we are well met once again. My friends and I will need rooms for the night and once that is all arranged I would speak with you and perhaps the priest we met on our last visit. The innkeeper Sally smiles, "You and your friends are welcome here, and I have rooms for you this time. You mean Rufus the Priest of Gargul? Sure I'll send word for him. .... Of course the water's gotten better, not as pure as rain or snow melt, but at least it back to its old self.
.... No more green frog attacks since you clean out the last lot of them. "

Later that evening when Malgant talks with Sally, Rufus the two nod "Yes the Ga'alian Heartseed free tax, It's not right, but want can we do about it? Few can afford to pay it without going broke, I its sure to get worse. The Ga'alian priest have a long memory, today it may be legit to help others avoid a hartseed, but in the days and weeks to come it could be bad for those who help."

"You don't seem to understand just what it is we would like for you to help with.
Our group will be the force that the Ga'alian priests and armed forces will encounter. Your aid would be in a more background nature. We are looking for a place some of them can resettle in, as well as help in getting them transport that can afford to Dirt City. What we want to do is direct them to come here, recouperate a bit from thier travel, and then either settle down here or catch a boat ride to Dirt City, who is expecting some of them to reach them.
We'd like to set up a place that they can consider safe, far enough from Alsidur, they are not in fear for themselves. We can probably even help start a fund of some sort that will help cover the cost of thier ship's transport. Some of them may even have skills that you might welcome to Acid City it'self, I imagine there are quite a few skilled laborers amung the refugees."

"Sally, first off, we want our friends here to be okay. Can we ask, can you pay the tax? If not, we can help. How much is it?"

"Second, we have to pay the tax ourselves so we can travel around freely. Who is the tax collector hereabouts?"

"Third, we do not want you to put yourself in trouble. Maybe you know someone who can do this work for us. Someone who can find refugees who come to the area, then keep them safe for passage to Dirt City or somewhere else. Maybe you know someone who cannot afford the tax but who would be willing to work for us after we pay the tax for them and their family. We would pay a wage too. We would trust someone you recommended."

Malgant looks at Val as she makes her comment. He had not thought that they would actually be PAYING they tax. How would that work with both Val and Appolo wanted by the church of Ga'al. Malgant was pretty sure Val would be ok, since he would be standing side by side with her. Appolo, well he always claimed he could take care of himself. With his current lack of being helpful in any way, Malgant hoped he could.

To the others assembled Malgant helped Aztyr seal the deal. "Once they get wind of some of us being involved I think you would be able to march an entire parade past them without so much as them fining you for the noise. We have a few lightning rods among us to their cause, and as I hear it, no Ga'alian priest will turn down a chance to get to a priest of Imod. You should be able to operate pretty easily once they concentrate on us."
Sadly, Malgant's skill in diplomacy shines through. (natural 1 on the roll with a -3 modifier. total -2 roll. Doncha love it when the uncharismatic folks try and make nice? 8) aid another roll unsuccessful. )
Malgant wishes he had looked for a wand of Death Ward while he was in the Catacombs. They were going to need it.

Vauhwyt grins and says, "Okay, okay, no paying the Heartseed Tax. But isn't the Emperor a good guy? We should pay our non-religious taxes, right?"

Acid City Stein and Trencher Inn (coDm Glenn)
Wednesday June 2nd, 2010 9:40:33 PM

Aztyr tries to downplay the danger of helping direct the ones fleeing. Sally and Rufus while swayed are still not convinced. Whisper adds to the debate that it is the right thing to do, both Sally and Rufus agree, but know being right doesn't help if your outnumbered.

Excusing herself for a moment to powder her nose, Vauhwyt returns with a very shiny nose that adds charisma behind her argument and questions. Sally respons to the liontaur's questions "The tax is a thousand gold per year per person. It is to be paid at the Ga'alian temple by the new moon (a few weeks). All the non-hartseeds must then wear a badge the Ga'alian's will give you. I know a few people who can't pay, but would do just about anything to avoid a hartseed. I have enough to pay, but Rufus doesn't." Rufus nods "Gargul will provide a way for his followers."

Vorelle points out a bully only gets away with being a bully if no one stands up. Valanthe adds that the group will draw attention away from the refugees.

Having his own ideas of payment, Appolo keeps quite and orders a drink.

Knowing some of the group are wanted by the church of Ga'al , Malgant wonders if they would even be allowed to pay the tax. Bringing up the fact that the church is out to get some of them isn't exactly music to Sally's and Rufus's ears. Then Appolo show his pirate Jack's tattoo, and makes it clear what he thinks about paying any hartseed tax.

Vauhwyt, Mal and Appolo debate the right of the king to set the tax. Rufus adds his thoughts, [b]"The Emperor is allowing the Ga'al church to set and collect the fee, not his tax collectors.

Success! Sally and Rufus are convinced that they should risk there lives and do as you ask to to help funnel refugees to better places. While worried they are enthusiastic to help and they know a few others they then get to help too. Your group with their help, and the letter from Bardamion have no trouble setting up the rest of the deal for helping hartseed refugees in Acid City get to Dirt City.

Unless there is further business in Acid city, then it the next morning before you know it.

Vauhwyt grins at Appolo, and she points to her Setanos' Vestment, which now looks like a t-shirt that reads, "Got Death?"

"I think, my confused friend," she says, "You mean 'kill them all and let Gargul sort them out.' But I have to tell you, my lord Gargul is not actually an advocate of mass murder, as a rule."

"So what do you think?" Vauhwyt asks Ashira and Val. "Is the Emperor an enemy, a good guy, or something else?"

Ashira,  d20+8=21 ;
Wednesday June 2nd, 2010 10:15:19 PM

OOC: Sorry, super busy RL over here.. Soo, I 'm going to assume that when Malgant roused Ashira she was stubborn and politely refused to answer Malgant saying something about "still thinking things through".

The ranger has been quiet, almost comatose in her extreme contemplation over the past day. But the current conversation snaps her back into things. She listens to what the others have to say, but she frowns a bit at Appolo. She puts a hand on his shoulder. "Brother, I know how you feel, and I know why you feel that way, but the matter isn't as simple as you make it..." She looks distant, thoughtful. "There are some....even some heartseeded that are good...deep inside. It's hard to describe...Ga'al is so...what is the word. Tempting...filling...in some ways it is all you ever wanted...to have a god that close to you." Ashira struggles with the words and it is obviously painful for her to speak on the subject. Her eyes harden. "But I will return to Gargul before I let anyone be seeded who doesn't want to be!"

Ashira looks thoughtful for a minute before answering Vauhwyt's question. "The Emperor is in many ways a politician. He is in a difficult situation after being freed. I believe he is trying to do the best for his people without provoking an all out war with the priesthood." She chuckles a bit thinking of what kind of long winded answer Rigging would have given to the question. "Notice that the Emperor's not using his own tax collectors?? That's a good thing. So it's a religious tax..." she pats her sword hilts. "I can think of a few very persuasive arguments against paying the tax." She smiles at Vauhwyt, fire in her eyes.

" The Gods are as close to you as you wish them to be. Let them aid you and they will. Ask for help and it is granted. No other god asks that their followers give up their free will to belong to the church, only Ga'al."

Previously, in Ashira's room...
" I will include you in the healing that Imod grants me then but not attempt to shield you or bestow any other prayers on you. When you are able to confront whatever happened to you I will listen. Do not fear speaking to me, or to Imod for that matter. He would welcome those that are able to overcome fear, any kind of fear, in order to accomplish good deeds."

Ashira
Wednesday June 2nd, 2010 11:32:13 PM

Though his words are well intentioned, Malgant touches a nerve with the strange half-elf. She rounds on the minotaur filled with years of buried and pent up rage. "Ask for help...ask for help?!! You have no, NO idea how I asked...I begged...I pleaded for help! And did Alemi come? No! Did Domi help?! No! They tortured me and then they stuck that thing in me!" She jabs her chest where they placed the heartseed. "So don't tell *me* about getting close to other gods, bub...'cus if a paladin of Alemi isn't close, I don't know what is. And what good did it do me, huh?! You tell me...what good came of my devotion?" The ranger stands panting, rage in her eyes. A rage that has not been properly dealt with and now boils over on the first unfortunate victim...in this case Malgant.

After a couple of seconds, Ashira recovers some of her senses and frowns. "Look, I'm sorry about that. I tried to tell you I wasn't ready yet. And don't get me wrong...I'm not an advocate for Ga'al. *Far* from it!! It's just that you don't understand. If you are down and out, Ga'al can have a lot to offer, and for some sacrificing your free will is a small price to pay. It's hard to put into words, but Ga'al can be very...persuasive to say the least."

Valanthe is quiet for a moment as an idea forms in her mind. "I say we hit the tax. We sneak into the country and raid the store house. Then we use the collected tax to finance the escape and housing of the refugees. I'm sure it will be well guarded but I don't think they will be ready for us."

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Thursday June 3rd, 2010 7:12:16 AM

Vauhwyt watches Ashira and Mal carefully to make sure Ashira does not kill him. She is pretty sure Ashira would win in a fight, so she is more concerned for Mal. But then she realizes that Val and Mal together would beat Ashira. So she gets ready to grab Ashira and either teleport away or drag her into the Realm of Shadows.

Fortunately, it does not come to that. [OOC: LOL! Good RP you guys.]

The liontaur listens to Vorelle and agrees. "The Houses were better than being a slave to goblins, too," she says. "Ha. Feels good to say that.]

Appolo urges everyone to stop worrying and be happy -- she laughs and gives him a hug. "Good advice."

Then she thinks about the whole tax issue.

"The thing is, the tax is actually very very high. The only ones who can hope to pay are adventurers, the wealthy, and very prosperous merchants and tradespeople. From those, the Church of Ga'al stands to make a mint. If 1,000 people pay up, that's a million gold pieces!"

"It will be something to see how many common folk choose the seed rather than run away. It may be that Aisildur has shot a bolt into its own foot by chasing away too many people."

"I wish there were some way to hit the church in its purse. That would be ironic payback for this tax. But we have to go to the Tears of the Wood anyway, tomorrow."

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Thursday June 3rd, 2010 7:16:58 AM

But then she smiles at Val's idea of a theft. "I could drag the whole party into the storehouse through the Realm of Shadows. It would hurt some, but I could do it, easy. Then we walk through walls and such until we get to the storeroom, I drag us all back into the Wold, we load up, and Teleport away."

"There's lots that could go wrong. Walls of Force. Dimensional Anchors. We might get away with a stunt like that once, but after that they would shut the barn doorr."

Her accent reveals her excitement and eagerness to try it. So does her twitching tail.

Her words, though, are cautious. "But first, the Tears of the Wood."

Appolo

Appolo responds to Ashira"Ashira.Of course it's simple.Just kill them.Nice and simple." Looking over at Vauhwyt"Why be sneaky about it just show up at the front door kick it in and let the killing begin.Tehn burn the place down when we're done.See agian nice and simple.Oh we also take everything not nailed down"

Moderate Fortification, AC 29, 128/128 hp Malgant
Thursday June 3rd, 2010 4:31:26 PM

Malgant takes her rebuke with no reaction. He had no idea she had been Heartseeded. He would not change what he said in any case. Evenly, but not harshly he continues, " You have a Heartseed then. I am uncertain we should discuss further plans with you present. I mean you no disrespect, but does not the Heartseed mean that you and your god share a great deal in common, including his ability to command you to act on his behalf? I do not want to see that come to pass and have to see friends of yours make a choice whether to hurt you or save refugees or themselves. I have no words to describe how sorry I am to hear that you have been Heartseeded." Malgant is blunt and only speaks what he has been told is the case. He could be totally wrong about how the Heartseed works, and may find that out, violently, in the next few moments. He does not change posture though, he is still open to helping Ashira and the refugees, though he has no idea how he could help her now. As far as he knows, a Heartseed is forever, until the bearer dies.
" The fact you state at the end Ashira, is the whole point of this task. Belonging to something IS enticing. Knowing that there are others, just like you all around you is comforting. When faced with an impossible tax that is more money yearly than most people will ever see in a lifetime most would choose the Heartseed. Most would choose to belong. THAT is why this is important. THAT is why we need to offer them a choice. Head on fighting a hive mind with nearly unlimited resources is DUMB. Appolo's way will end in death for everyone at this table because eventually someone else has a bigger stick. Hit and run, sabotage, an underground railroad or a final assault to end the Heartseed tree once and for all would be preferable, and all except the last one, survivable. I'm sorry no one stepped in to help you Ashira, I really am. But we can be that help to those who are now facing what you faced. We can be their ticket out, or their port in a storm, allowing them time to collect their things and get out of Alsidur. I believe that. I'll fight for that and if needs be I'll die for that. Giving them hope is a just cause."

When it becomes clear that Malgant thinks Ashira STILL has a heartseed, and STILL honors Ga'al. Vauhwyt literally jumps up and leaps really really close to Mal, directly between him and Ashira.

She looks up into the minotaur's eyes and says urgently, "No Mal! No. Her heartseed is gone. It was removed. She hates Ga'al. Didn't you hear her say, "I will return to Gargul before I let anyone be seeded who doesn't want to be!' And she said, "I'm not an advocate for Ga'al." What Ashira does better than all the rest of us put together is understand Ga'al."

Relaxing a bit, she adds, "That makes her the strongest weapon we have against the Ga'alians, if you ask me."

Then she smiles at Ashira. "Mal means well. We all want the same thing. These people should not have to pay a tax, or else flee, to avoid heartseeding. We want to help these refugees, stop the tax if we can, or make the Church of Ga'al pay for it if we can't."

"And Appolo, sure we would love to just go fighting the Church, but come on. We have to be smart about it. I know you know that."

Vauhwyt
Thursday June 3rd, 2010 7:07:11 PM

When things settle down a bit, she reminds the party that they have one more errand in Acid City. "We have to look up those sailing ship references our friends gave us, and convince them to take as many people to a haven, like Dirt City or South Harbor, as they can manage -- billed to the account of our most excellent friends. We have to let Sally and Rufus know which sea captains are safe to send folk too. And Sally and Rufus need some money to pay for their activities. At the least, I can pitch in a couple minor magic items. Can everybody chip in a little?"

She gives Sally and Rufus a scroll of invisibility and a scroll of see invisibility. "Use them or sell them if you need the money. You should accept no less than 100 gp each, more if you can get to the Catacombs. Rufus, use the money to help pay your own tax, if need be."

[OOC: Updating PC sheet to take off these two scrolls.]

" There is no need to restrain me Vauhwyt. I am not deaf nor am I blind to how much being rejected by your faith can hurt you. I myself was exiled until only a few weeks ago. I am just trying to be sure that we will not hurt others by discussing our plans in the wrong place. I would not try to harm her even if she still bore the Heartseed of Ga'al. I don't kill first and speak to the corpse later. I try to negotiate and when that fails I smite them in my Lord's holy name. Heartseeded or not, you are right about her being a powerful weapon against the Ga'alians. How may I ask, was the seed removed? I am told by my scriptures, which I know are one sided on the Domi/Imod issue, so why shouldn't they be one sided on this, that a Heartseed kills the individual if it is removed. I am glad that she no longer has to bear it. Her story of what happens to a Heartseeded person through the untainted eyes of a non Ga'alian will prove to be very persuasive to our cause." Reaching into his bag Malgant pulls out 2000 gold gained from the sale of the Dread gear. " Use this to pay your tax. Use it to help us save others from being trapped with no choice in what they do to survive. Keep your eyes and ears open and learn what you can. Imod allows me a prayer that lets me send a short message to another person when I pray in his name. I will do so periodically to send you information we learn and to learn what you have found out. It limits you to twenty-five words or less so become skilled in making your reports short. If there is more you need to tell us say so and we will get someone to you to collect what you know. If you find yourself in danger from the Ga'alians at any time, I will give you a token. Break it and I will be transported to you. Depending on when you break it you may or may not get me at my best, but I will do what I can to protect you. I will have this prepared in the morning, before we go."

Acid City Stein and Trencher Inn (coDm Glenn)
Thursday June 3rd, 2010 8:32:43 PM

(ooc: Great RolePlaying!)

The group debates and discusses the gods near and far sometime with strong emotion. The Idea of hitting the church's treasurer is intriguing, but it is still early in the month many may wait till the last day before paying the fee.

Meanwhile, Vauhwyt takes care of more business by donating some items to Sally and Rufus and seeing them to connected them to the trusted sea captains. It is straight forward matter in setting up the accounts. (ooc: The people and means are in place in Acid City to funnel refugees to Dirt City.)

Mal donates more than enough coins for the innkeeper and priest's tax.

Ashira
Friday June 4th, 2010 12:26:12 AM

Ashira laughs at Vauhwyt's protectionist stances. "Vauhwyt speaks true...I am no longer heartseeded. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure how it was done. You would have to ask Appolo or Val. And yes, your knowledge is mostly correct. Usually heartseeds are permanent and lifelong. At one time Alemi gave us a cure for some of our party. His tears freed them from the seeds. But before that, we had a couple of party members who were able to take a concoction that freed them from the heartseed's mind control. I do not know the herbs myself, but I could easily contact Redux and find out...."

So many emotions whirl through the Pirate that at times in the conversation it is hard to reign in her temper. Perhaps that was part of the problem between Rigging and her while they were in Aisildur... Her tone turns venomous again, but it's pretty obvious that the rage isn't directed toward Malgant, but rather the topic at hand. "I will make something clear to you, sir Malgant was it? I detest Ga'al. I have always hated him. Always! Those murdering (insert very vulgar Pirate profanity) killed my mother. They butchered more friends than I can count. I have spent a lifetime learning how to better dispatch those (really, *really* colorful profanity) priests and Quads. I was always true...always. I took up the way of paladinhood and how was I repayed? They captured me...tortured me until I...I...I couldn't take it anymore." Ashira pauses, the anger beginning to give way to the crashing waves of guilt. She finishes the last part in her mind, for she cannot speak the words out loud...how could she?! I let them. Let them seed me. The pain...it was too much...I wasn't strong enough to take it any more and I *let* them! And for one of the very few times in her life, Ashira breaks down and begins to cry. Her body shakes with her silent sobs and the tears run hot down her face. Ashamed, the ranger bolts out of the Inn and out into the streets fleeing anywhere her feet will take her.

OOC: Hope I'm not throwing off the flow of the game, if so, Ashira will be composed and ready to roll as soon as the party is ready to leave. :)

Vorelle  d20+17=22 ; d20+17=25 ; d20+21=30 ;
Friday June 4th, 2010 1:44:46 AM

Vorelle is startled when Ashira bolts, but she keeps her head. She knows the other woman wants to be alone. She also knows that dangers can strike those who are alone.

"The best person to keep up with a ranger," she says, rising from the table, "is another ranger. Excuse me a moment."

She trails Ashira, staying close enough to help in case of danger, but far enough to give her a little privacy.

Appolo
Friday June 4th, 2010 11:38:49 AM

Appolo looks at Malgant"Ashira doesn't havea heartseed becuase hfamily removed. Not some god.I went after kicked the door in killed everything insight and dragged Ashira away.Tehn we removed the heartseed."Appolo then sprints after Ashira. He moves with even more speed and grace then before.

When he catches up to her Appolo wrapps his arms and cloak around her.He just holds her and let's her cry."It's ok it's not your fualt. We shouldn't have let them take you in the first place.I'm sorry it happened."

Valanthe AC 32/ 25 vs intangible HP 156/ 156, Light Fortifacation
Friday June 4th, 2010 1:08:01 PM

Valanthe was about to run after Ashira but she wouldn't catch her while wearing plate armor. Plus Vorelle and Appolo ran out. She moved over to Malgant, taking his massive hand in her own tiny one. "Mal you have a heart of gold and I love you but you would make a terrible pirate. Yeah we picked our targets but there were plenty of times we fought Ga'al head on and won. Sometimes against impossible odds you have to stand your ground. I already know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway. Would you rather have Ga'alian soldiers focusing on us or refugees? In order to save people we have to make ourselves a target that Ga'al can't ignore. That doesn't mean we fight stupid but we can't run and hide either. Don't worry about Ashira. Some wounds run deep and even now its still fresh. If she were mad at you she would have drawn her blades. Things are going to be tense now. For Ashira, Appolo, and myself. I thought I was done with Ga'al. Which is why it felt so good to just focus on undead. Except now I can feel those old feelings making my blood burn. I've had my own personal trials to cleanse my soul and it's still hard. Ashira hasn't had that chance and Appolo is, well Appolo is as rutheless and cold as ever. He wasn't always like that. It was the war. It changed us all. Sometimes I think its my fault. Leaving him just made things worse but he was getting so cold hearted and I couldn't take it anymore. Now that were going after ga'al I want to kick in their door and start busting heads. To put them into the ground and send a message that there are consequences for what they are doing to people."

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Friday June 4th, 2010 1:16:02 PM

Mookie's head pops out of Vauhwyt's belt pouch as Vauhwyt takes her seat, a little shyly. "Boss," he crows, "this don't mean we're gonna skip the Forest? I love that place!"

"No worries, my friend," says the liontaur. "We'll be near enough to it when we get to the Tears of the Wood tomorrow. Ga'al isn't going anywhere, and we have his minions and the liches to keep us busy after we figure out that's what at the Inn."

Moderate Fortification, AC 29, 128/128 hp Malgant
Friday June 4th, 2010 4:35:42 PM

" On us, but you already knew that. They will see us and I assure you, they will come after us. A priest of Imod and three of the most wanted people in all of Ga'al's domain, they would be unable to resist. And I think we should use that, to draw them into a trap. We will quietly, maybe even in disguise, get the refugees moving in the right direction. And then we will draw as many of their forces away as we can by showing ourselves and acting as bait. If we play our cards right they will be so bloodied that they will not be able to properly defend the Heartseed tree. Then we go in on a seek and destroy mission looking for the tree. Either destroy it or damage it again like last time to slow its Heartseed production. If we do it right we will set them back far enough for me to be an old minotaur by the time they recover. By then our children will be able to take our place making their lives miserable." He says this evenly, knowing the risks but trusting that they can handle them.
" I will need to see a jewelry maker before we depart tomorrow to prepare the charm of summoning. Aztyr, every few minutes please scry on Vorelle and make sure that the three of them are alright. Do not pry, but make sure you know where they are and if they are in danger."

OOC
the spell requires a 1500 gp focus of a piece of jewelery to be broken while saying a command word. I have deducted the gold but will need the jewelery to finish the spell. I will also need to teach Sally and Rufus the word 'courage' in Minotaur as that is the command word I wish to use.

Acid City Stein and Trencher Inn (coDm Glenn)
Friday June 4th, 2010 10:35:52 PM

Ashira describes to Mal what happen to her and when she is done she burst into tears and flees with Vorelle and Appolo chasing after her.

Valanthe and Vauhwyt remain with Malgant as they talk about ways to draw the forces of Ga'al out and destroy the Heartseed tree. In the morning Mal has no problem find a jewelry store that has just what he needs.

(ooc: No problem, I'm fine with the game flowing to wherever the group goes. Just so long everyone is enjoying it.)

Ashira
Friday June 4th, 2010 11:57:10 PM

Ashira cries for several minutes while Appolo holds her. The grief and guilt that was built up flooding out like water from a broken dam. Composing herself, she looks up at Appolo and smiles weakly. "Sorry 'bout that. Musta got something stuck in my eye."

She returns to the Inn and spends the night alone with Appolo's bottle of dwarven spirits. She drinks with the practiced skill of one who knows how to come upon the state of drunkenness with efficiency. As she drinks, feelings come and go, but one thought returns over and over. I wasn't strong enough... Not strong enough. Won't let that happen again...Gotta be stronger.

She rises at daybreak...a little worse for the wear from the binge drinking. Though her head is hammering, she begins a very rigorous morning workout, pushing herself mercilessly.

She waits in the Inn for Malgant to arrive after he's done finding his jeweler. Catching him, she pulls him aside. "Look, I want to apologize for last night. There's a few things I still need to work out, but I shouldn't have taken it out on you like that. You seem like a nice guy, and if Val trusts you, then I do too." She fishes Malgant's ring out of her pocket and puts it on her finger. "Cast what spell you wish and do what you need to do when we're in combat. I put total faith in you." Ashira gives the minotaur a big smile and heads back outside for more training. She's got a lot of ground to cover and the sore muscles will have to wait. As soon as everyone is ready, Ashira is game for heading over to the Tears of the Wood.

Vorelle
Saturday June 5th, 2010 12:41:02 AM

Vorelle doesn't intrude on Ashira, and when she heads back to the inn, Vorelle follows at a discreet distance.

Champ isn't so polite. He bounds after Ashira and capers about, trying to get her or Appollo to play with him.

Vauhwyt and Mookie  d10+10=17 ; d100=63 ; d100=69 ; d100=33 d100=5 d100=3 d100=52
Saturday June 5th, 2010 8:06:21 AM

In the morning, Vauhwyt says farewell to Sally, and asks her to look out for Rufus. "I worry about him. Gargul watches out for those who watch out for themselves."

Her Vest of Setanos is a black hoodie today with a picture of the grim reaper, face hidden in a cowl. Under the image are the words, "Have Scythe, Will Travel."

She casts her usual complement of morning spells: Detect Scrying, Greater Magic Weapon on her armor spikes, Extended Greater Magic Weapon for Mal, using his rod. False Life. The roll on that today (1d10+10) is 17.

Then it is time to teleport to the Tears of the Wood. She says to Aztyr, "Let's shoot for the outside of the main doorr. Picture it -- The orc-style awnings around the outside. The round windows in the upper floors. Blackbird Forest across the river behind the inn."

On a whim, just before teleporting, the liontaur changes Mookie into a monkey and casts Heroism (on her third try).

Teleport fail: no prob. Mistake teleporting: no prob. Alter Self: no prob. Heroism: failed! Retry: FAILED! Retry: okay at last!

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 52+20/52)
Saturday June 5th, 2010 11:51:45 AM

Whysper continues to follow along with the group. It is obvious there are deep emotions between a number of them that she is yet to understand, and she does feel somewhat lonely without Uel's presence. "Still, there is a job to be done, so best to focus on that" she reminds herself.
