Tear of the Woods Inn (coDm Glenn)

After finishing their business in the morning, the group teleports outside the Tears of the Wood Inn.

You see the three story building with a wide awning that extends out from three sides. The horse track that encircles the place and gardens around back.

The place is quite, probably too quite. You don't see any orcs sitting under the awnings or hear the sounds of a busy tavern.

Upon a closer look you see one of the bouncers leaning back in a chair taking a nap and another on the roof slightly more alert near the alarm gong. Four more staff workers can be seen working in the garden outside closer to the river.

When Ashira says she is sorry Malgant is not sure why she should be." I touched a wound you wanted left alone. Your anger was not badly misplaced. Judging by the looks of you though, you have not fully dealt with the unpleasant memories I woke up in you. I meant what I said. If you need help, or want help dealing with any of this ask and I will do whatever I can. I have had crisis's of faith, though what you have seen and heard me say these past few days would not show it. The gods are not always clear in what they want, so do not berate yourself too much over it."
Malgant then goes and finds Sally and Rufus and gives them the statuette and teaches them the word 'courage' in Minotaur." Break this statue and say the word if your need is great. Do not use it lightly. I cannot refuse the summons, but if my friends and I are in battle my sudden departure will leave them with no healer."
Upon arriving at the Inn, after teleporting Malgant is wary." This place was not exactly bustling the last time we were here, with the Blight and all, but it was not this quiet. Be on your guard and to our observant ones(Whysper and Vorelle) keep your eyes and ears open. Lets head inside."

Whysper takes a look around. Certianly not the most lively of inns that she has seen. "Hmmm, hopefully he's just napping and not dead" she thinks to herself, noting the bouncer. She quietly makes her way to the door of the inn to head inside.

In times past
When she rises, Ashira spots Appolo in the hallway (I am assuming that he wasn't hiding, just sitting in the shadow and watching...Spot=23, success, I think). She smiles at him as she passes. "You know, I always did think you were a pretty attractive stalker baby brother!"

Ashira listens to Malgant, but she's not really sure what the cleric could do to help. Now that she thinks about it, it's pretty obvious that the fault was within herself. Of course, thinking is a little difficult to do right now with that headache pounding away in the background... Just gotta get stronger...

Present moment
Despite her thudding hangover headache, the ranger does a decent job of keeping an eye on things. She's never been here before though, so she's not really sure what to expect.

The bouncer isn't dead, merely napping. He looks you over and nods, "Bar's open. Miss Satman will be glade to have customers." You see a few more staff around, but no customers.

" We will require rooms for a few days most likely. Food and wine as well." Malgant plays the naive priest and looks around the tavern wide eyed." Not many folks staying here huh? I would have thought with the Blight lifted this place'd be busier. Especially with folks leaving Ailisidur unless they want a Heartseed. Pretty stiff tax to pay to continue being yourself in that place. Least that's what I hear."He looks at their hostess expecting a story....

Aztyr smiles as Malgant takes over the communication duties, with a sledge hammer. He would let her take it back once it truely became needed. In fact watching the Minotaur usually gave her ideas of just what NOT to say. As for the rest of the party, they left most of the communication duties to Mal or herself, so....

Except for the lack of customers, the place is pretty much as Aztyr, Vorelle, Val, Vauhwyt, Malgant and Appolo remember it on the day the all meet after being draw to the place by a dream.

Rubbing her hands together, Mistress Satman nods as she answers "Rooms for a few days! No problem. Not too many guest right now, but that's mainly due to the fair at Adurath drawing everyone there. You would think we would see some of the refugees from Ailisidur, but no one has come up from the south or by the woods in over a week. Business did pickup after the blight ended thankfully, the fair is just a temporary thing. I thought some of you look familiar, You stopped in for a day or two during the blight, Livia called you "The Ones" from her riddle. " turning to the wooden Ship's figurehead Mistress Staman calls out, "Livia looks who here!" The Innkeeper goes to see about reading the rooms.

The voluptuous figurehead seems to wakeup her eye's opening and looking down upon the group, "Finally some customers. Never though I would would miss talking to smelly drunks as much as I missed speaking to dolphins and whales." After a moment, Livia comments pleasantly "I'll be it's the One's, most of you anyway. So how did that go? Did you ever figure out the riddle?"

Stepping outside, Vorelle takes a look around. There isn't any town to speak of, all the building are part of the Tear of the Woods Inn. The plants around seem to be near recovered from the blight which is effectively gone.

Aztyr sees the figure head, the same as it was the last time. "We hello again Livia, It seems that we are once again in need of another riddle, or maybe just a hint as to what our next actions should be. We are currently planning on helping the refugees, but maybe you know why this place is so quiet."
She decided that Malgant's methods weren't working very well, so Aztyr decided on putting on a little bit of charm. It wasn't her best, but she figured it was better than nothing.

Vauhwyt tries to help Aztyr in talking with the animated ship figurehead. "Livia, Mistress Satman, it is good to see you again. We heard that there was something amiss in the area. Giants, maybe? We would like to help. Seeing as this is where we friends all met, I have a happy feeling about this place, and if we can offer our aid in any way, we would be glad to do so."

Aid Another untrained Diplomacy: 17 gives Aztyr a +2.

[Oh! Vauwhyt's Setanos' Vestment gives a -1 penalty unless they like Gargul, but it is moot with a 17. The vestment, by the way, currently says, "The Only Good God Is A Death God."]

Mookie caws in agreement. "As a Black Bird, I declare this to be the Blackbird Forest's best tavern!"

Ashira gladly accepts Appolo's drink and she smiles at his words but shakes her head. "You know Appolo that you will always be my little brother. Even when you're old and gray and I still look younger than you...somehow you'll always be my little brother. And I will always love you, no matter how bad your come on lines are. As far as Rigging, don't get your hopes up too high. I'm still married. It's just that he likes city life a lot more than I ever could. And I think in some ways with all the stuff that I've been through..." Ashira looks down at the wedding ring on her hand. "I think I kinda drove him away. I'm just now getting to the point where I can talk about some of the stuff that happened, and sometimes I lash out. So really, I think this is what's best for us right now. I have a lot of things I need to work out, and Aisildur's just not the place for me to do it..." She slaps Appolo playfully on the shoulder. "At least not unless it involves killing a bunch of sons of Ga'al!!"

Whysper remains silent for the time being, observing the interactions of the group, the bar staff and the figurehead. She sits down at a table on her own, but within earshot of the conversations. She misses her travelling companion, and still does not feel like she "fits" within the established group.

Livia's wooden face smiles at Malgant, "You flatter me to think I am some kind of bard. I'm merely a ship's figurehead without a ship."

Giggling at Aztyr's remarks, "First a bard now a truthsayer. You put too much faith in me. This place is quite because the ones that where here have left for the fair and others that would be here haven't arrived whether delayed or worse. Go North or South, adventure is where you find it."

Returning from sending maids to freshen the rooms, Mistress Satman hears Vauhwyt speak of Giants, "Giants? No I've not seen or heard of Giants near my Inn, but there is no telling what you can find in the badlands of Izen. I appreciate the offer of help, I'm sure the lack of any travelers up the south road is just due to a bridge out or some landslide blocking the road. "

Livia brights up, "Talk of the refugees does remind me of a tune I've over heard some fellow working on, back when we had customers."

" Interesting. Puts it rather plainly doesn't this bard? You hear so much, being in the middle of a conversation yet not a part of it Livia. Do you know this bard's name and where he was headed once he left the Inn? You have given me an idea, one that will possibly get one thing rolling and bring another to a fairly rolling boil. A bard like that could help us out tremendously." Malgant's voice rumbles to a halt as he steps up to the bar and orders a carafe of wine and two glasses for himself and Val. Obviously something in the tune struck a chord in him. Now he seems deep in thought about how best to proceed. " Let us get a table while the rooms are readied. I have an idea we should discuss. If only we had a bard, and a Greatcloak. Maybe even a wheelbarrow, now THAT would be something." Malgant's voice trails off as he heads to one of the tables farther back, away from the bar, and the figurehead.

The ranger watches as Champ bounds about the Inn and smiles. It reminds her of the dogs she raised and trained for the Pirates a long, long time ago. Still, everything had it's place, and the pooch needed to chill a little. Smiling as the dog comes near her, Ashira casts a spell (Calm Animals) and watches to see its effect on the playful pooch. (Will save DC14, Affects critters of up to 10 Hit Die).

Aztyr again just smiles as Malgant thinks outloud. Most of the time she thinks that he never even realizes he's speaking aloud and that others can hear him.
"Yeah, I can see where getting the Bard to spread his song near and far, but if it's not a catchie tune, it won't stick in peoples minds for very long. It needs to be something almost obnoxiously simple, something you'd almost rather die of quickly, that be repeated over and over.
That's a song that would spread like wildfire, and reach the ear we want it too, both those in need, and those in need of a beat down."

Malgant orders a carafe of wine for himself and Val, as he commandeer one of the empty tables where the group can chat quietly. Livia shrug, "I didn't catch his name, but I think he was with a group that left for the fair."

Ashire calls Whysper over to the group's table, as Vorelle come inside with an excited Champ. Ashira attempts to calm the pooch with magic. Appolo makes several comments as he too waves for Whysper to join them.

Aztyr picks up on Malgant's idea as she remark on it.

It's a pleasant morning at the inn, The staff keeps busy with deep cleaning, and other repairs usually neglected when when the place is full of customers. Any drinks or food the party orders is quickly delivered. After about 20 minutes mistress Satman announces your rooms are ready, and shows you where they are. You have plenty of time to discuss plans and ideas without interruption as the day goes on.



Long about mid afternoon, the Inn's ferryman Barney, comes rushing in to the Inn looking all serious looking for mistress Satman. Finding her he glances about and speaks quietly to her, about thirty feet from you. She seems to grow a little pale as he speaks.

Trying to follow the ferryman's mouth, Malgant does not hear what he says, but gets a fair impression from reading his lips. Dead former guests, with no marks on them. Curious. He empties his wine glass and stands up, headed for the door and the river outside to see what he can see. Catching Vorelle's eye he motions for her to follow, knowing well her skill at healing may be able to reveal alot about how they died.

First off, Vauwhyt is suspicious that the figurehead and the mistress of the inn are either not saying all they know or that they dare not be honest. She spends the 20 minutes talking with the figurehead and taking 20 on a Sense Motive check. That's a 22 with heroism.

She has also detected disembodied souls ... just to confirm that there are none?

And a quick peek into the Realm of Shadows (a free action) -- anything?

Spot check to read lips: a 6, 8 with heroism.

Finally, feeling like there is something deeply wrong, Vauwhyt casts Summon Monster IV to call a lantern archon (duration 12 rounds). Arcane Fail on the casting is a 44, no prob. She asks the archon, "Starting in this room, please fly all over this inn, using your Detect Evil. Come back and report as soon as you detect a large evil -- as of a evil priest or undead or such. Otherwise please return here before the magic ends and report back all that you discoverr."

Aztyr was well into a mouthfull of nearly raw venison when the ferryman came barging in. She spent the entire time he was talking trying to empty her mouth without just spitting out half chewed meat. When she finally managed to to get it all swallowed, malgant was already headed for the door.
She grabbed a small hunk of meat and slipped it into Jynx's pouch and she grabbed the stien she was drinking fruit juice from and followed Malgant from the Inn. Once outside, "So, what's going on? I was just a bit too occupied to see or hear what he said."

The Calm Animals spell works its magic on Champ, who sits on his haunches and regards Ashira with quiet alertnes.

Then Appollo tosses him some jerky, which rather ruins the effect. But, the dog soon settles down under the table, gnawing happily at his treat.

Vorelle joins her friends for a moment, but then the ferryman comes in, and Vorelle's keen ears overhear his conversation almost without conscious effort on her part.

She frowns puzzlement when Malgant goes to investigate, but she follows him as requested. It was sad, but surely people drowning in the river wasn't that unusual. Perhaps their boat had capsized.

His curiosity roused, Malgant finishes his wine and goes for a walk down by the river, motioning for Vorelle to follow.

Suspicious, Vauhwyt spends some time talking with Livia, the liontaur comes to the conclusion that the figurehead isn't trying to be evasive or withholding information, she just didn't pay that much attention to the bard. She does get a description of the bard, some human male in his mid twenty's wearing fancy shirt with embroidered dragons on it. As for ghost or other disembodied souls, while you would expect a place like this to have it share, they are no active one currently, and the only thing hiding in the realm of Shadows are a few lost dreams. Using magic Vauhwyt summons a lantern archon, the glowing ball of energy appears and starts reciting mimorised lines "How may I assist you.....Oh it you again? What do you want now! I got into a lot of trouble trying to deliver that message for you before. How was I to know it was against the rules, it's not like the give us lots of training for summing duty. You called on an Outsider power to scout for you? What a waste of my time, but I guess I must. Next I bet you call on me to serve you tea..." The ball of light floats off grumbling to itself "No evil here. None here either. Still no evil. Oh surprise surprise, no evil there..." Nearly one full minute later the archon show back up "Well, just as I predicted, it was a waste of my valuable time, I found no aura of evil, but I wouldn't suggest you have any of the hot curry chicken they used far too many hot spices. Bye" it pops out of existence.

Overhearing the disturbing news, Vorelle joins Malgant in his walk to the river.

Clueless about the sudden exodus, Ashira follows them asking Appolo. Unable to avoid hearing the ferryman's conversation, Whysper accompany the others filling in Ashire. Ashire offers to do some water recon, but Valanthe thinking about Acid lake recalls the Slaads. Appolo knowing when there's trouble, follows the others outside.

****** River Bank ****

The spot where the bodies are, isn't hard to find as a few other staff are already standing round gawking. It seems bad news travel fast. On the bank of the river are three water bloated bodes resting where they where fished out of the river's current. They are human, two males and one female, and they are wearing traveling garb. One male is noticeably older that the other two. There doesn't appear to be any wounds other than where the fish have been nibbling.

The river which is about a quarter mile wide here, is flowing at a pace equal to to a slow walk. The water is partly clear allowing you to see about 30ft into the water.

One of the Staff a maid, looks shocked, "Oh dear, aren't they the guest from last week. The nice family with the full wagon, said they were leaving Aisidur for good. They must have drown and floated down the river. Wonder what happened to them? It so sad!"

"Indeed it is. I have not the prayers to ask them what happened, but if you will guide me Vauhwyt we can prepare their bodies for the group. Surely their spirits have already traveled to rest with Gargul. In the morning we can see their remains into the ground." After I question them to see what happened to them, Malgant thinks to himself.

Seeing the dead bodies Aztyr is some how not suprised that Malgant is interested in the dead bodies. She is too, but only in so far as to make sure it don't happen to her or her friends, any time soon. She looks up streem, judging the current and then asks a serious question.

"Any idea how long the were in the water?
You said they were here last week, just how many days ago did they leave?
Was there wagon made for slow or quick travel or more importantly, how good was there draft animal or animals?"

It was time to do some math, once she got the answers.

While Malgant and Aztyr ask questions, Whysper kneels by the bodies for a closer look. With a quick glance around at the gawkers, she turns her attention to the bodies, and carefully examines them for any signs of trauma, puncture wounds, blood, etc, including opening the shirts of the two males. The female body she will treat with respect. As part of her examination, she will also inconspicuously be searching for any belongings. It wouldn't be the first time she had robbed a corpse, but even she would not dare take anything with so many onlookers. Best do that later...

The liontaur would be glad to help Malgant out with a prayer for the dead. But Vauhwyt, though a potent mage, experienced Avenger, and a Grim well versed in the ways of death and life, actually has no idea what to say, seeing as she has no ranks in Know Religion. What she does have, though, is a god bluff check, so that will have to do. Bluff 21 including the heroism. Although the keen of sense may get the idea she is uncertain, Vauhwyt does her best with a simple short prayer.

"Lord Gargul, guide these lost souls through the Shadows. Welcome them to your judgement, and carry them to their home in the Lands of Rest."

The ranger looks at the bodies...sad indeed and more than a little suspicious. She looks carefully at the body trying to see if maybe there is some river ferns tangled up on one of the corpses. If there is, she gently removes it and then walks a few paces away from the crime scene. Casting a spell (Speak with plants) she asks the fern. "How long have you been wrapped around this human? Was the human warm or cold when you got tangled up in it?"

Valanthe tagged along but stayed out of the way. This was not her area of expertise. She was good at smashing stuff not trying to solve mysteries. So instead of just getting in the way she was going to be out of it.

"Well personally I think they were killed by bandits. A full wagon is quite a prize. You know maybe we should pretend to be refugees and head down the roads. I know we don't look the part but some cloaks and maybe some magic and a wagon and we can be travelers."

The minotaur Malgant proposes they bury the remains after he chats with them in the morning.

Seeing the dead, Aztyr starts to judge the currents and time of travel. The river is flowing at a slow walk, but doesn't stop for a rest so you figure the bodies traveled at lest as fast down stream as you could walk in a day. A stable boy answers some of the lointaur's questions, "Mam, It was a slow wagon with two horses, one of which had a bruised hoof. I did what I could, but I told him it needed a week's rest or it would go lame again. They left left anyway about six days ago, I think. Wonder what happen to the mother and other two kids?"

Whysper examines the water bloated bodies, she doesn't see any sign of trauma that would have killed them as for belongings, there is a common dagger on each of the men, a gold ring on the older man's swollen finger, and a money pouch still with coins in it.

Looking at the bodies with a healer's eye, Vorelle is positive they drowned, and pretty sure it wasn't due to a violent like a flash flood. She can also say with certainty the bodies have been in the water for about 48 hours. (ooc: NCSI in deed Ducky. LoL)

Appolo watches and listens as the others investigate.

Having leaned the Archon's name is Ark, Vauhwyt joins the others and helps with the prayers over the dead, the bystanders all listen to the prayers with solemnness and after it over several make symbolic motions appropriate to their beliefs.

Finding a bit of water weed on one of corps, Ashira takes it and learns it's been floating for about two days, and that the body was still warm. The ranger Valanthe taking along with the others express her opinion about what may have happen.


Having joined the crowed, Mistress Satman and Barney listen to the prayers allowing the odd liontaur priest of Gargul and her friends see to the dead. Mistress Satman calls on a few of the staff to dig some graves, and turning to the group she comments "Since you have clerics among you, I'll let you see to their remains if you'll be so kind."

Malgant barely hears Mistress Satman's request for help with the bodies. What the stable boy said a few moments ago has his head spinning. Wonder what happen to the mother and other two kids? Malgant doesn't want to speculate on that, he just wants to find them. "Is there a map of the area, one that shows the road that they took and where it would cross this river after about two days of walking travel? If there were more people in their group we need to start looking for them NOW. Waiting until morning when I can question the deceased will likely be too late." Bardamion's words about where the group can go next keep echoing back to him I've heard some disturbing reports from the area north of the Tear of the Woods. Rumors of band of marauding giants. Giants could have tossed the men into the water, and they could have drown due to a simple inability to swim. But why just these three had they put up a fight, or had they been walking alongside the wagon while the mother and other children were inside? " What were the other children's ages lad? Were they young enough that they would ride in the wagon with their mother while their brother and sister walked with their father? Has anyone got that map yet?"

Aztyr estimates that the river flowed maybe 20-25 miles in the two days that the bodies floated down stream. (7 knowledge local roll to be sure)
"It is quite a hike tio where they went into the water, and I came in on the road, I might be able to get us closer to where they actually went in, but I've already explained what might happen, if I miss-teleport. I'm willing to chance it, but the rest you'll need to decide if you are willing to chance it."
Aztyr knew what she was planning on doing, but the others needed to decide.... and the fact It'd probably also be mookie going with her bothered her a bit as well....

Whysper removes the valuables from the men (the daggers, ring and coin purse) and standing, hands them to Satman. "We must go search for any survivors. Please mind these belongings. If any of the family remains alive, they rightfully own them." . She then turns to Aztyr. "Teleporting may get us there faster, but we may miss something along the way." She emphasises the word "something" with a nod towards the bodies. "But if that is the case, then we may already be too late. In the event we can still help, then I agree we must get there as soon as possible. I am willing to risk a teleport."

Vauhwyt helps with the burial.

Afterward, she is hopeful that her friends have just the expertise the group needs. "Maybe Ashira and Vorelle can track the wagon -- that semi-lame horse likely left a distinctive hoofprint. I don't mind the walk."

"How can we teleport to a place we have never seen? I just learned the spell, how does that work?"

Still, Vauwhyt is just a little bit suspicious. "Isn't it strange," she asks her friends in private, out of earshot of NPCs, "that just after we arrive, these bodies are found just in time to send us away from the inn. If someone here were trying to hide something from us, sending us off on a wild goose chase would be very convenient."

So she corners the stable boy, and puts a stern look on her face. "Now lad, answer me true," she says, "Did these people leave about six days ago, as you have told us? And were these sad dead bodies truly just found here a little while ago?" Vauhwyt is using her Grim class feature called Question Spirit. The boy can choose not to answer, but he cannot lie unless his bluff check beats Vauhwyt's intimidate check of 29.

Aztyr listens to the expected questions, especially from Vauhwyt, and redies her reply.
"Well, when we all joined up here not all that long ago, I traveled here, from I believe that same road. I will admit, that I wasn't looking for a place as a spot to teleport to. So I will hace a larger chance of missing my teleport mark, but as it'll only be about 40 or so miles I shouldn't arrive too awefully from my intended location.
And now comes the part where you'd need to trust me with Mookies health for a little bit. I know I can, if I focus on it, see through Jynx's eyes and see just what he sees. I may be mistaken, but I assum that you can do the same thing, correct me if I'm wrong.
If you can see what Mookie sees, then you could teleport to where I arrived, with a veryy little chance of missing the mark.
I agree that missing something is possible if we travel that way, but it will also cut about 2 days travel time to reach the area we think it happened."

Calling for a map, Malgant hurriedly ask questions about the children ages, how they traveled and where two days walking would get you along the river. Several people start to answer all at once in a confusing jumble of words. You learn the other two kids were ten and eight, and the wagon was pretty full so they probably took turns walking and ridding. The minotaur is correct in recalling about the band of giants and the fair is several days north of Inn.

Barney the ferryman quiets the others as he describes the road and river of South Peaseblossom. "The Southern Peaseblossom runs from the Culverwoods all the way to the Peaseblossom Bay. It divides Isen to the east and Aisidur to the west. The west side of the river is covered by the Blackbird forest which grows right up to the river bank making land travail almost imposable lest you have fiends" Barney nods to
Mookie on Vauhwyt's sholder. "For that reason the road is on the eastern side of the river and goes from the Adorus outpost in to the south at the bay to Aceleus outpost in the north where peaseblossum leaves Culverwood. The Tear of the Woods Inn is about halfway between them. It's about three days walk to Aceleus outpost in the north, five by wagon, or a day and a half by a fast horse. So it's within a day's walk of there. " Southeast Aisildur map.

Aztyr estimates correctly the river speed of about a mile an hour. The Sorcerer's Liontaur offers to try and teleport there, but warns to the others of the dangers of doing so.

Whysper removes the dead's valuables and hand to Satman for safe keeping. The half-elf is favors teleporting, but worries they may miss something.

Helping with the burial, Vauhwyt suggest tracking the wagon, but is worried and suspicious about the coincidence of events. Cornering the stable boy she uses her grim's ability to question him. Feeling the force of a god upon him, the boy sweats as he confirms that the people did leave six days ago and the bodys where only just found. You detect no dishonesty in the boy.

The human ranger Vorelle is willing to help track down survivors.

Aztyr tries to answer Vauhwyt's concerns about blindly teleporting, and offers to take Mookie in an attempt to give the second teleport group an edge.

" If Vauhwyt cannot scry then she would be out of the range of Mookie and unable to communicate with him. I know you can scry though Aztyr. If Vauhwyt is willing to make the initial jump, then several of us could go with her, you could scry on us and teleport that way. Or, one of the staff here with the keenest memory could describe the mother or one of the children to you and you could attempt to scry on them with that information. We could get lucky and learn that one of them left something here at the inn, a toy from one of the children or a hair comb from the mother perhaps, thus enhancing your ability to look in on them. Then we could go directly to them with a better chance of landing true. Either way Bardamion mentioned a probable band of giants marauding the area. He is far too smart and does his homework so I doubt he would repeat an idle rumor that had little merit. On that basis the faster we get to them the better. If we are teleporting blind I will go with the first group.Make ready and let us get going."

Malgant pays for the rooms for the next 2 days and for the food that Mistress Satman can provide for the mother and children. He readies his gear for combat, knowing that the scrying may well reveal the family in dire need if indeed they ran afoul of the giants.

Aztyr listens to Malgant, then looks to the stable boy. "You mentioned you worked with the lame horse. You wouldn't have happened to groom it while working on it would you? I could use the hair to get a better focus on it. Or maybe you have a nail from one of it's shoes."{/b]
Aztyr waits for the discriptions and or the left behind items. She will then move back to the porch of the inn, to be out of the sun while she will do the scrying.
[b]"Vauhwyt, you might want to come stand over here next to me. I believe you'll be able to see this as well as I, since it'll be seen in my mirror."

Aztyr will first start with one of the Horses, most likely the stableboy has something of the horses to be used as a focus.
She will try which ever she can get a Item from first, before she tries one of the children,(unless there is something left behind from them)

Aztyr has 4 chances at scrying.

Whysper will go with the young lad to help look for any items that may belong to the family or the horse. She knows the boys conversation with Vauhwyt could have been intimidating, so tries to make sure he is at ease. "I don't expect you see many dead people around here. You're handling things very well - very bravely. Tell you what, if you can help us find something that belonged to the family or their horse, I'll throw in a piece of silver for you." She puts her hand on his shoulder as they go off to look.

Malgant discusses options for teleporting and pays for the rooms while ordering some food to-go. Mistress Satman nods, "I don't think they left anything, but I can get you a description. I'll have food packed right away." One of the staff gives you a good description of the young children and the mother.

Aztyr comes up with the brilliant idea of using the horse hair or item. With Whysper assisting the stable boy, he is able to find a bit of hoof where he trimmed the some of the outer nail and some hair from the brush he'd used. There is no such luck at finding anything from the children or mother.

Aztyr sits under the Inn's awning to begin the long process of Scrying. After an hour she starts to get an image in the mirror. You see two dead horses partially eaten, still in their harness and attached to a broken wagon. In the mirror you can see about 10 feet around, the ground around is rocky, you don't see any sign of the road, but you do see some stuff from the wagon laying around on the ground as if it was discarded. There are several black buzzards feasting on the remains, and you can hear the sounds or water nearby. There is no sign of the missing mother or young children from 10+ minutes of scrying on the horse. The half eaten horses do look like they've had more than buzzards eating on them. The Second spell on the older child fails after an hour of casting it. (ooc: each casting takes an hour do you wish to continue?)


Questing the others, Valanthe learns it hasn't rained at the Inn in the last three days and the river has been it's normal self for the last week. Using her healing skill earlier, Vorelle found no signs of trauma of any kind other than fish nibbling on them after they died. Valanthe can't find any blunt head injurys.

Appolo propose following the road, looking for dead horses or bits of wagon.

It was mid afternoon when the bodies were found, now it pushing 6pm, and will be getting dark in another two hours. Having teleported to the Inn, the group is still relatively fresh and could easily travel for 6+ hours before tiring. Thanks to Aztyr scrying, she and Vauhwyt have viewed once a place to teleport too.

Ignoring Appolo's two step behind the current line of thought as usual plan, Malgant starts forming up the teleport groups.
" The horses are definitely dead and the wagon seems to have been looted. Group up for a teleport and lets get there. We can have Vorelle find the trail when we arrive. The scene looked calm but be ready. Ladies if you would be so kind as to transport us." Malgant readies his shield and draws his sword. They may only have a few hours of light left but that should give Vorelle enough time to find the trail and set them on it.

Aztyr looks up after the two hours of steady concentration, and without really thinking about it, reaches for her stien of fruit juice. She is pleasently suprised to find it almost full, and at least freshly chilled.
"Malgant, I don't think another scrying would result in further information to be gained.
As for teleporting, I'm confident on being able to arrive at the ruined wagon.
As for my group to travel with me I'll take Malgant, Val and Whysper, leaving Appolo, Ashira and Vorelle for Vauhwyt bring along. Am I forgetting anyone?"

While she's talking, Axtyr opens the top of her pack and stores the rather large piece of polished silver into what appears a bit smaller backpack. Those unfamiliar with her carry bag, would be suprised, but not members of the regular group.

She walks out in front of the Inn and has Val and Whysper hold onto her harness, and after getting the spell started she reaches out and grabs Malgant's belt. Having studied the area through the Scrying, the spell has it's usual squeezing effect on everybody, but the appear only a few feet from both the wagon and the dead horses.
"Well, we're here, and those dead carcases sure do stink, I think I'll be standing up wind, if you don't mind."

Whysper draws her dagger and prepares for the teleport, still somewhat unaccostomed the that particular mode of transportation. On arrival, she quickly checks the area for any immediate signs of danger, or clues as to the direction the family may have gone.

Vauhwyt praises Aztyr's good thinking, especially the trick of spying on the horse. "Cleverr, very cleverr, oh my sisterr," she says, her accent a little thicker than usual.

She studies and casts the teleport. Arcane Spell Fail: a 100! No problem. Chance to roll in error? a 53, also no problem.

I'm assuming that we teleported around 10 in the morning, and I'm marking 8 hours off my long-term spells total. The heroism and the alter self expired.

Appolo teleports with the others.He arrives relaxed and ready.He looks around and waits for something to happen.Unlike the others he hasn't drawna weapon yet as he figures he's quick enough to draw them when and if necessary.
