Madrigal -- DM Jim d20=16 ; d20=7 ; d20=8 ; d20=7 ; Tuesday May 25th, 2010 6:09:35 PM
Whether it was a daring coordinated assault on the Madrigal, or pure luck as Zeoll's group and Maikill's group launched their attack at the same time, the outcome was the same. Luckily for Maikill and his resounding strike against the accursed doorknob from hell, Zeoll's spell casting drew all attention away from his breaking and entering. Before they could be found, Valla, Bosk and Zeoll were on top of the roof, their knotted rope pulled to safety and no one was aware of their position--of course none on them tried walking across the flat rickety roof yet and hopefully it would bear the weight of two very heavy Taurs.
Inside, Maikill blasts open the door, splintering the door that swings open into an empty room, devoid of any living creatures it would seem. There is however a large armoire on the left wall, a cluttered desk with papers and a few books on the far wall--above which is a painting of a temple ruins, and then on the right wall a small bookcase. In the center of the room is a large ornate rug, completely out of place in this particular inn.

Note that the Mist is only 20 feet high, so it does not actually cover the roof. It does, however, shield the heroes from the sight of any below. Zeoll engages in a brief moment of reverie. To him, it seems as if he is on a big raft, 40 ft x 60 ft, such as the liontaurs of his home isle might make, floating not on the water, but on the fluffy top of a cloud.
Zeoll steps away from Bosk so that the two of them are not in the same section of roof. He listens for any sounds from within the rooms below ... and for the sound of his guard dog fighting on the porch below.
Listen 20 and 23.
He takes a quick look for any obvious trap doors, chimneys, or other distinguishing features on the roof, the kind that would not even require a search check to see. If he sees any, he will move over to them, stop, and listen again. Another 23!
Zeoll has been rolling so well, he is inspired to make a Bard Lore check. Maybe he has heard about a roof such as this one in some ancient epic or famous tale of balance and derring-do. Ah, just a 12.

Beriothian looks on in both horror, and a little bit of envy, as he watches Maikill repay the stubborn door for the harassment it has caused them. Zeoll moves away to ease the pressure on the roof, unfortunately he moves to an even weaker section and falls through. Slamming onto the engaged couple in room 3 breaks his fall (2 damage), but the recepients of his fall do not fare as well as over one thousands pounds land on them. Luckily the floor holds, barely, as Zeoll rolls off the bed, leaving the flattened and unconscious pair still in their now broken bed.

Ransy and the rest hear, "What the heck was that!" coming from downstairs as Zeoll falls through the roof. The same pair that came out to accost Valla race up the stairs--which serve as a good choke point. Waiting at the top of the stairs is Cesar and Ransy close by. "What goes on here!" asks the man in a loud demanding voice as he draws his sword and stops his advance. Then his eyes stray to his left and see's the SE room's door, #4, open--immediately he calls out for more men.
He cannot advance, only one person can fight at the stairs. His sword is glowing.
Bosk barely manages to make it through the large hole in the roof without breaking through more of it and Valla follows quickly behind. The pair of men that Zeoll fell on are injured, one unconscious with an obviously broken arm, another groaning in pain.
Beri continues his search and finds that the painting above the desk is very well painted. Also, the scattered papers on the desk is written in a language that he does not understand. Opening one of the books on the desk, he finds it is written in the same language.

Madrigal Stairway -- End Round 2 / Start Round 3 -- DM Jim d20+6=14 ; d20+2=14 ; d20+2=7 ; Tuesday June 1st, 2010 5:45:30 PM
The Iron Adventurers, at least some of them, strike back but yet again in this narrow stairway, none of their attacks connect.
In response the lead guard slashes at Cesar and once again misses the agile warrior. The man behind him, tired of waiting in line, throws a dagger at Cesar and misses easily. The lone wizard at the bottom of the stairs invokes an acid arrow and sends it straight at Cesar's chest, but it too misses it's mark!
Maikill grabs up the cup within the magic circle and places it back on the shelf where he found it. Zeoll is a bit more adventruous and steps into the magic circle. A bright blue light streams up out of the runes of the magic circle and Zeoll disappears.
Having witnessed what has just happened, Ransy notes that the dark spot of evil he has detected in the room is emanating from the painting on the far wall. Round 3 by Wednesday Night

Ransy will stand halfway between the stairs and the room with the magic circle, his bastard sword drawn, a threatening posture, a grim smile, to discourage anyone who'd like to charge after us.

As the Iron Adventurers begin to escape, Cesar is stabbed critically in the chest. Dark shadows begin to crowd the pain closer to his brain as he nearly succumbs to the wound, however Bosk is there to heal him once before the large Taur squeezes into the armoire, disappearing from sight (Cesar is at 3hp; Bosk rolled for three CLW but can only do one a round.)
Beri loads his crossbow and fires a single bolt into the enemy caster, hitting him solidly in the shoulder, dropping him like a sack of potatoes. Cesar runs for it and also disappears into the magic circle. Ransy waits for Beri to leave, but Beri is not moving (loading a light crossbow is a move action), then the enemy guard first in line runs up and skewers Beri in the chest, sending him into a painful unconsciousness. Ransy quickly grabs Beri and withdraws into the armoires magic circle and both disappear (Beri is at -4hp).
"Uhh, what now?" "I dunno, we're not supposed to go in the room, right Reg?" "Yeah," said the lead warrior. "Vell said if we do, we die, painfully and for a long time." "Well thats good enough for me," said the second man in line. "Yeah, well he also said if anyone got in there we were dead too." "Oh yeah, yeah, that's right. We're kinda screwed." "Yup." The man behind the enemy spellcasters asks, "How about Denn here? He's got a bolt in his shoulder and we've got no cleric. If we give chase, we won't have him to help us." There was a long pause as the men thought about what to do, then the leader spoke, "I hear Heranmar is lovely this time of year." The men were unanimous in agreement.
The shock of the cold water as each IA found themselves underwater was almost too much for some--almost losing their breath and beginning to drown immediately. A light from above and hands reaching down, helped those that floundered in the water to safety. Everyone had made it except Valla--it was unknown what happened to him. The group stood in the ruins of an underground temple, just like the one in the painting in Vellinius' room. In front of them to the "north" was the stairway, about 50' away. Behind them was rubble and the blasted ruins of a large statue that cannot be made out. The floor behind them was also sunken, more than likely having fallen into a lower level and then filled in with water that was coming into the temple from various sources. The place smelled musty and looked ancient and no sign of anything living was near.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:13/13 Thursday June 3rd, 2010 9:15:47 PM

XP Awards -- DM Jim Thursday June 3rd, 2010 10:22:17 PM
For the sake of evening up people, which makes my life easier for choosing encounters that everyone has a chance to live through, I'm making everyone who is 2nd level, 3rd level as of now--that means you're at 3000xp. Everyone who was 3rd level, gets 500xp to add to their current total, so they don't lose anything.
Also, Zeoll receives 1 Hero Point total for formulating the great roof adventure and for jumping through the magic circle willy-nilly--so an aditional 90xps for you since you're now 3rd level.
Bosk(James) receives 1 Hero point for being the ADM and taking care of some of the bookkeeping behind the scenes.
If anyone would like to nominate someone else for a Hero Point award, please let me know in a private post and the reason why. Thanks!
Please roll for your new Hp's and if you get new spells, you may use them now.

It can surrround him and contain him, and may delay him forr a rround, orr forr much longerr. We will be able to see thrrough the illusion, so we can use rranged attacks on him."
Zeoll looks around the Temple, not walking anywhere, just looking. There are bones on the floor ... of what creature? [Know Nature 16] And what are those little red and yellow things? plants? mushrooms? [Know Nature 28].
It looks like there are many exits: waterfall stairs to the near left, archways to the far left, stairways left and right, archways under each stair. The stair to the left looks like it might go to a balcony. I'm assuming that behind us is deep water from when we came, and ten feet down, maybe a teleport circle going back.

Healing and whatnot -- DM Jim Friday June 4th, 2010 3:16:48 PM
Both Cesar and Beri are healed during the brief interim following their escape from the Madrigal and subsequent dunking in the teleport pool. Beri continues to heal himself with his wand as Maikill keeps his eyes and ears open, not seeing or hearing anything dangerous. Cesar is at 9hp's right now thanks to Ransy.
Beri uses 3 more charges from his wand (5 total; 2 from Bosk prior, 1 failed, 2 healed self) and is healed completely.

Map update -- DM Jim Friday June 4th, 2010 4:00:25 PM
I've updated the map with another picture numbering all the exits. If it doesn't have a number, it's not accessible and is basically rubble. You'll notice the right side, out of "camera" shot, is not labelled, so that entire area is rubbled.

Zeoll says, "Hold on a bit fellows." He picks a bunch of poison flowers, and tells the group, "These arre poison, but only if you eat them. Don't eat them." He takes a minute to mash the flowers into a paste, using a little bit of water.
Got no ranks in Craft Poison, but here's an untrained craft check: 23! Lem's Lugnut!! And if it will help, here's a sweet Survival roll: 25.
Then he spreads some mash all over his head, working it into the top of his mane, being careful not to get it in his eyes or face.
"Let's hope it does not come to this," he says, "but if any mind flayerr goes a-nibbling on my crranium, maybe he'll get a bit of a surrprrise. Anyone else want a poison skull?"
If there are any volunteers, Zeoll will annoint them too. He tells them to make sure they do not touch their heads, and he makes sure none can drip down over a face. When he is all done, he washes his hands very very very thoroughly, scrubbing with dirt, and then washing the dirt away. "Rremind me not to suck my thumb," he says. "Orr eat with my fingerrs."

Ransy looks disapprovingly at Zeoll for this use of poison. He is certainly not going to wait for it. He motions with his bastard sword for the others to follow him. He approaches Arch 8 to about 60 feet and keeps observing it intensely until the others join him. He uses detect evil (range 60 ft) to see if something evil is at the Arch 8.

Alcoves and Poison -- DM Jim Saturday June 5th, 2010 3:01:14 PM
Disapproving of Zeoll's use of poison, Ransy does not partake of it and walks over to the closest alcove, but not into it. Concentrating for the presence of evil, he is almost overwhelmed as he detects that the whole structure, every stone and metal beam, radiates evil--this means the temple is still active in it's link to some evil purpose. What that purpose is, Ransy does not know--the religion that is revered here is totally alien to him.
Finished with prepping and applying the homemade poison, Zeoll is confident that if some mindflayer tries to bite him, they'll get a dose of poison too.
What the group can see is that the door for that particular doorway is sundered, but is covered nearly completely by rubble. If one wanted to get into the pitch black room beyond, they would have to crawl through the opening at the top of the doorway. The rubble would have to be cleared away somewhat if a Taur were to try and get in. 7 is the secret door :)

Alcove -- DM Jim Monday June 7th, 2010 2:44:08 PM
Maikill climbs up the small embankment of rubble and peers through the tight opening into the room beyond (alcove 8) and see's that it's a storage room of some sort, but it's crates, urns and whatnot are all deterioated and broken spilling whatever they had long ago, leaving nothing but a few rats that scurry about.
Bosk (James) AC: 16/11/15 HP 31 of 31 Spells d20=16 ; Monday June 7th, 2010 4:36:33 PM
Unable to find any tracks Bosk looks around for any paths that seem unusually devoid of dust, debris or growth. He also checks to see if any of the entrances would lend themselves to erasing tracks due to flowing water, look like they are a better preserved section of the building or would provide a strategic advantage against a group hunting down the occupant.
Bosks searching -- DM Jim Monday June 7th, 2010 5:07:17 PM
Looking over the place near the alcove, Bosk discern's that it would take quite a tracker to find anything in this muck and water (DC20). Nearer the stairs it may be easier though. If anyone is moving away from the group, please state where. Currently I have everyone somewhat near alcove 8.

Alcoves and Tracking -- DM Jim Monday June 7th, 2010 11:02:18 PM
Maikill heads over to the next alcove and finds the door still in place inside the archway. It is ornate, but covered in moss and looks to have remained unopened for years.
Bosk moves toward the center stairs and see's the faint trace of booted footprints leading towards the center stairway--perhaps a week old. All other Spot and Listen rolls yield nothing else interesting

At Bosk's answer, Cesar follows swiftly, bracing firmly both mace and shield, ready for any unwanted surprises.
"Err... do squid-things wear boots? 'cause they could be his... although if you say they're a week old, we seem to have arrived a little late. Let's go in and see what we can find... Want me to go first, Bosk?"
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:0/17 d20+11=24 ; Tuesday June 8th, 2010 9:34:45 AM If the prints are a week old then odds are this is not the passage he took to enter. I'm not sure that we are necessarily safest taking the path the mind flayer took, but odds are the front door is one of the more dangerous routs to take.
Beriothian starts heading back to the main group./ If logical Beriothian searches the vine covered gap between entrances 8 and 9 on his way (It looks like a wall covered in vines to me, but if it's a dark alcove Beri will wait for backup before examining it.)
Bosk (James) AC: 16/11/15 HP 31 of 31 Spells Tuesday June 8th, 2010 11:42:29 AM Why would they not belong to him? My guess is that he doesn't want people coming here and we have no reason to believe he has left the room since Temujin saw him over a week ago.
ooc: Bosk is willing to go first, depending on the size of the hall. If we must go single file it may be better to have a stronger fighter in front and Bosk behind to take advantage of his reach.

Where is Bosk heading? -- DM Jim Tuesday June 8th, 2010 3:09:40 PM
ooc: where is Bosk heading?
Bosk (James) AC: 16/11/15 HP 31 of 31 Spells Tuesday June 8th, 2010 4:19:29 PM
ooc: After finding the tracks Bosk stopped to tell the group and is currently no headed anywhere, but is encouraging the group to go through the entrance with the tracks.
I don't think waiting is a good idea. Our biggest advantage is the element of surprise, and since the only set of tracks is a week old and we have no reason to suspect he has left in a week there is a good chance he knows nothing about what happened at the bar and has no reason to suspect we are here. If he did he would have attacked us while we were struggling in the water and before we healed ourselves.
We know the Ilithad is strong, so I don't like the idea of splitting up. Since he is most likely still inside I think that's where we should go. We should find him before he discovers us. Besides, I don't think time is on our side. What if he has another means of escape? What happens if someone destroys the painting we are in? And why would he hide in a half buried room when he doesn't expect anyone to enter the painting? This is probably his home, his sanctuary. Where he feels the most safe and secure.
Bosk motions to Maikill and begins slowly towards the entrance hoping the others will come with.

Ransy agrees that splitting up is not a good idea, so he abandons his digging. He joins Bosk and says whispering: I just don't like us going up the stairs in full view. Why not use one of the other entrances?
Where is Bosk heading? -- DM Jim Tuesday June 8th, 2010 4:30:19 PM
ooc: so towards #6?
Bosk (James) AC: 16/11/15 HP 31 of 31 Spells Tuesday June 8th, 2010 5:37:41 PM
Bosk nods to Ransy. We can stick to the side as much as possible, but if that's the entrance he uses then the others may be trapped. Besides, either he expects us and is waiting for us already and would be where he could keep an eye on the water or we caught him off guard and he is most likely not keeping an eye out for us. But if you have a better idea feel free to take the lead. I just see only one lead and have no reason to believe following another course of action will be any better.
If Ransy or another chooses to take the lead then Bosk will follow, otherwise he is going to #6.

The left stairs then the main doors -- DM Jim Wednesday June 9th, 2010 12:05:50 AM
Bosk leads the way initially, but Beri jumps out in front and checks for traps--of which he finds none.
Cautiously they move through the small waterfall that sprays down and covers the steps up. The group is once again wet--perhaps this will grant them some sort of resistance to a fireball the mindflayer is known to use to much effectiveness.
Rounding the corner of the steps they come to the possibly locked double doors in the center of the walkway that more than likely leads into a worshipping area. Nothing is heard but the splash of water about them and no enemies can be seen on this side of the doors.

Beri speaks softly to the group. If we want to cast any spells before we start we may want to step away from the doors before casting it, beside the furthest waterfall is probably the best option. Well, if he was cautious enough to trap the door to his room it wouldn't surprise me if he had more traps in here somewhere. Lets hope I have better luck with them from here on out. Bosk (James) AC: 16/11/15 HP 31 of 31 Spells Thursday June 10th, 2010 12:49:04 AM
ooc: How large is the opening? Will we have to enter single file or is it a double door that will fit two abreast? Lastly, is there room to the side for non-door opening party members to hide should a fireball emanating from the back of someone's head shoot out?
If people want I have a one time expandable pole that could be used to push the door open from a distance. Another option would be for Bosk to stand to the side and use his increased reach to open the door without standing directly in front of it. Lastly, I recommend that whoever opens the door wear gloves on place a barrier between their hand and the knob.
My suggestion is to have everyone move to the side, out of view, while Bosk opens the door (I assume it opens outward) using his 10 foot natural reach (Bosk is also standing against the wall away from the door). After waiting a few seconds to make sure a volley of arrows don't shoot out we could then have someone with good reflexes or a mirror check to see that it is clear before entering.
If we go this route, Bosk will enter either second or third (depending on what others want) and ready the weapon with the appropriate reach. (Bastard Sword=10ft Spiked Chain=15ft)

The Main Temple -- DM Jim Thursday June 10th, 2010 3:05:14 PM
Bosk gives the signal and opens up both doors. There is no mad rush or blast of a fireball. What the group see's when they peer through the door way is a large hall, perhaps 100' long and 60' wide that is bathed in dim-light from the broken stainglass windows above. Columns run the length of the hall to either side with many alcoves filled with statues of indistinct busts. Above on both sides and above the doorway is a balcony that runs the length of the hall. At the far end of the hall, approximately 90' away on a raised platform that has an altar and large stone bowl in it's center, is a man in black robes accompanied by two children who look familiar to some of you. He turns at the sound of the doors opening and smiles when he see's some of you. "Look children, we have visitors." The children turn and smile at the new prey that has entered their temple--it is then that some of you realize that these children resemble those of Yosef's and Arriet's, however, their faces seem a bit elongated and the hue of their skin is light lavender. Through a heroic effort, Maikill fights back the almost overwhelming mental assault on his senses threatening to remove him from the fight before it's even begun. 60' from the MF(Mindflayer)
Zeoll's acute perception pentrates the mindflayer's illusionary disguise and he points it out to the rest of the group with great zeal. Then he begins to sing to inspire courage in the rest of his fellows as he moves forward into the room. 60' from the MF(Mindflayer)
Taking in the complete scene in an instant, Beri races to his right into the shadows and hides behind a stone column. In the nearest alcove resides the bust of an Illithid, it's features dusty with age. 80' from the MF(Mindflayer)
In his usual farmboy way, Cesar voices his disapproval and moves forward cautiously as he keeps any eye on both enemy combatants. 70' from the MF(Mindflayer)
Also seeing through the mindflayer's illusion, Ransy immediately runs for the creature, weapon and shield in hand. 30' from the MF(Mindflayer)
Bosk contemplates his next action as the rest act.
---
Roy loads another arrow and fires right at Ransy as he runs forward, hitting him solidly in the right leg (-9hp).
Vellinius holds his ground in front of the altar and sends another ripple of energy out that encapsulates Ransy and Zeoll (DC17 Will Save or be stunned for 7 rounds each).

He's approx 20' away on the diagonal now. If you move as indicated, he'd still be 20' away, but Roy would be behind him instead of in front on the diagonal. DM Jim

If Zeoll can throw his alchemical fire BEFORE Bosk charged Roy, then he will throw it at Roy (with a -2 range increment modifier). Then the liontaur will take a 30 foot move action closer to the flayer.
If Bosk has already engaged Roy, Zeoll will still throw. If he has a clear shot at Roy (with a -4 for ranged attack into melee and a -2 range mod), then he'll take it and then move toward the flayer. If Bosk is providing soft cover for Roy, then Zeoll will move up to 30 feet so that he is throwing from the other side and can take a clearer throw, avoiding the cover penalty.
Zeoll's ranged touch attack, starting at his usual +1 to hit, then at -2 for range, maybe for -4 to throw into melee, with his own +1 inspire courage. Zeoll's roll is a 18. That hits touch AC18, or touch AC14 if he is throwing into melee. Damage this round is 4, with another d6 to come next round unless the flames are extinguished.
If Bosk is in melee for the throw, then odds are he takes 1 hp splash damage, sorry.

Blood flies as both Ransy and Maikill hack into the Mindflayer--it's black blood coating their weapons, sending wisps of corroding metal trailing behind their swings just as a crossbow bolt whizzes by their heads and implants itself firmly into the shoulder of the Mindflayer.
Sixty feet away, Bosk slams his spiked chain into the frail body of the beggar-garbed ranger, dropping him where he stands (crit damage is rolled without bonuses). Then promptly a flask of alchemical fire bursts against the railing, showering both the ranger and Bosk in flames (1hp damage).
The Mindflayer is in a lot of pain, but still manages to take a 5' step to this rightside (AoO for Ransy only) and then blasts both Ransy and Maikill again with his mental power.(DC17 Will save Ransy and Maikill. If Ransy fails, stunned for 8 rounds; If Maikill fails, stunned for 7 rounds.)

Cesar sets about stabilizing the young children, doing so successfully, as Bosk searches about the Mindflayer--taking his head as a prize and possible evidence for claiming the bounty for the brain-eater. Bosk also finds a familiar helmet on the Mindflayer disguised as a circlet until he takes it off. Also a small bag on it's hip that seems to be holding much more than it's size. Inside he finds two wands and a large sack with a number of labeled potions (the ones from Jerry), and another large sack holding a large amount of gold (roughly 1000gp from the looks of it).
At the end of the great hall, on either side, is a stairway that leads up to the balcony. Bosk squeezes through as he makes his way to Roy. The beggar-garbed ranger is still alive and lying disabled on the floor. He see's Bosk approach and fumbles for a dagger made from a sharpened stick, but cannot muster the strength to even wield it. The battle is over, I'm not going to kill you. But I am afraid I am going to have to hold on to these for now. The cleric carefully bends over and disarms the ranger and pats him down and strips him of anything useful. You have my word that if I had intended to kill you I would have done so already and we wouldn't be talking right now. We came for the mind flayer who attacked at least one of our friends and left us with a debt to settle. We will need to ask you a few questions, but I am just going to assume you will cooperate. Now tell me, can you walk or am I going to need to carry you out of here.
Bosk then calls out to the others and tells them that the beggar is still alive and suggests that he may be able to answer a few questions for them and lets them know that he promised they wouldn't attack him.
Crappy diplomacy Roll of 5 (That equates to a good intimidation roll, right? I'm sure the head on a stick helps with that).

The Main Temple -- DM Jim Tuesday June 15th, 2010 5:16:21 PM

Bosk begins to show a little anger in his voice. Rather than acting diplomatically the taur decides to take a more neutral approach and just present the facts. Listen, we are not Saints and I am sorry we didn't offer you the cloths the other week. It is not as easy as you might think to shake off the mindset of Mudtown, but we are trying. As for our generosity, we had to pay 800 gold for breaking you out of that locker. Money we are not asking you to repay. We just cleaned you up and bandaged your wounds and are now offering to cure you, for FREE, and all we want is a little information in return about a man who had enslaved you. Cut us a little slack. How many people in Mud Town would do so much for you.
Now, you have a choice. Either you can come with us as a friend and we will help you and you can go on your way, or we can chain you up like a prisoner until we cure you. We will then turn you over to the guards, cured and healed to rot in prison for the rest of your life for aiding the brain eater. With the worm gone they will never believe your story. Our only crime against you is a lack of hospitality after saving you and for this offense your would choose your own death? All we are asking for is a second chance and to act civilly and for your aid in destroying the very evil that enslaved you. Is that asking too much?

Roy was obviously in pain, whether it was from the Bosk's attack, Zeoll's alchemical fire that that still smoulders on his beggar's garb, or the larvae burrowed into his brain was unknown. "Screw off," was Roy's only response before closing his eyes and remaining silent.

We are trying to help you, you backstabbing maggot, and I think offering to remove that parasite from your skull would more than make up for not getting a new set of clothes. But if you are not willing to cooperate with Bosk I would be thrilled to knock you out cold, after which we will do what we think is best anyway.
If the party gives the word, Beri will pound on Roy's skull with his sap until the ranger loses consciousness... and maybe a few extra times, just to be sure ;)

Zeoll (AC17 hp 14 of 14, -2 nonlethal) Tuesday June 15th, 2010 10:03:10 PM
Zeoll looks around, figuring it out.
"The mind flayerr put a worrm in that guy's head, and now he is going to die, except we have an animal that will curre him, but he hates you guys because you let him wanderr arround naked. And everrything in this place is way evil. So we curre him and send him on his way, rright?"
"And these flayerr whelps are purre evil too? Well, sad, but the kids have to die. If no one else will do it, I will. Afterr all, it's not like they have fourr feet and a tail."
After double checking with the paladin, Zeoll does the deed, using his dagger.

I will not allow any more harm to be done to them... even a slight tap to the head to keep them sleeping. Now let us haste in finding a way back. Roy, sir, do you have any idea of how far we are from Hook City?"
Cesar will begin searching for anything similar to the teleportation circle they found at the Madrigal (take 20) and after that will return to check on the children (having tended to their wounds, do I have an idea of how long it will roughly take them to wake up?)
The Main Temple -- DM Jim Wednesday June 16th, 2010 2:44:54 AM
Roy does not respond, he lays there quietly. Cesar searches about and finds that the place is bare of most everything, especially another teleport circle.
After returning to the children, he figures they'll be unconscious for at least a day.
Ransy just finishes up pouring a good amount of oil into the larvae bowl and lights it on fire. The larvae squirm and sizzle in the fiery blaze, even some popping open like popcorn--throwing some others out of the bowl.
Cesar - HP 28/38, AC 21 Wednesday June 16th, 2010 3:26:48 AM "It seems that there is no circle out of this place... and the gods only know where this place is! Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:17/17 -1 con Thursday June 17th, 2010 8:46:49 PM
Beriothian sees the worm trembling with fear... apparently the worm is already smarter than one would expect. He stabs it with his dagger (not wanting to actually touch the thing) and scrapes it into the flaming bowl.
Bosk, can you check the balcony and under Roy for a possible exit? Hopefully that is why he was up there. If nothing is up there, it looks like we will need to spend some time exploring to find a way out. In the mean time, I want to explore outside a little more, can somebody come with me just in case there are still dangers lurking?
When someone agrees to look around with him, Beri will look at exit 13 (but not enter) to see whether it leads into our out of the temple. He will then 20 on searching the outside area.

The worm squirms in it's deaththroes as it's unceremoniously scrapped off into the awaiting inferno.
As Beri moves around the other side of the altar, in this dim light he makes out a very large, perhaps 50' tall, bas-relief of some alien looking creature with hundreds of tenacles on the back wall. He also notices a secret door at it's base.

They do make a lovely popping sound sound when they are done though. By the way, I have good news. I may have found an exit, though we probably should leave the kids here until we know door is safe. The smell of burned flesh slowly ebbs away as the group ponders what to do next. Most have been drawn to silence--perhaps it is the temple itself, it's oppressive nature slowly working it's way into the thoughts and feelings of the group. All around them are the busts of long forgotten Illithid, their almond shaped eyes staring at you as if they could see right through you. The massive bas-relief on the altar wall with it's many tenacled god looms over the group as some stand in the darkness, while others have just returned from the humid, and musty main hall of the temple. No, I can't allow that. Please lay them down carefully and explore the cellar first. Afterwards, if there is a way out downstairs, we get the children. If you're afraid they'll wake up, just bind their hands on their backs.
Ransy lights his lamp, removes his shield (he can't carry three things: lamp, shield and sword; if possible he'll bind the shield on his back), waits for the others to join him and then, with his sword drawn, he slowly descends the stairs, saying to Beri: "please, feel free to look for traps here"
Cesar - HP 38/38, AC 21 Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 6:35:37 AM "I'm not afraid they'll wake up... I'm afraid something might happen to them. This isn't actually a playground, you know. I'll follow you at a distance with the children with me. Any way we can build a stretcher or something to carry them around?"
Ransy, AC 21/12/20 Hp 25/35 Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 10:34:30 AM I don't think we should stay here long enough to construct stretchers. This is not exactly what one would call a safe place; it's evil, thoroughly evil. Let's try to find any other victims which may be around here and then take the swiftest way out.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:18/15/13 HP:17/17 -1 con Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 10:52:13 AM Do we have anybody with spells that would help against undead? Because this doesn't look like a cellar to me, I think we are about to head into a crypt.
Bosk (James) AC: 16/11/15 HP 31 of 31 Spells Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 11:22:49 AM Sorry, I had a spell that could have done that, but I used it to heal everyone.
Bosk will follow the group downstairs.
Maikill HP (33) 21/39, AC(15) 17 -5 Con. Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 12:02:53 PM
ooc: Did I miss Maikill getting healed, if not he isn't keen on going down into a crypt without being a full strength (or close to it), also how about a neutralize poison?

ooc: anyone carrying a lightsource other than Ransy?
The dark stairway -- DM Jim Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 2:43:38 PM
The group decides to descend into the darkness, with Ransy second in line with his lantern keeping the dark at bay. With Beri in front and searching for traps, the going is slow. At first when the group entered, the walls were slightly damp with moisture, the common musty smell replaced completely by the stench of rotting corpses somewhere far below. Also, the passageway down the steps were "man-made" with slate and granite lining the walls and steps. However, about 100' down, the slate walls abruptly end in rough hewn earth and stone. The granite steps continue down into the dark for another 500' until the group comes to an opening. The air is oppressive, heavy with the smell of corpses and a languid warmth that pricks at the flesh. Shining his light past the opening, Ransy and the others see that the stairs have lead all this way to a large naturally formed cavern about 400' in diameter. The stairs continue down to the floor of the cavern some 50' below. In the center of the cavern is a large pit, a sinkhole if you will, of about 100' in diameter. Eight continual flame braziers equally spaced about the perimeter of the sinkhole mark it's edge.
The group see's no other movement in the cavern or anything else unusual.
Cesar's arms grow weary after carrying both children so far--and they have made no sign of awakening. Poor Roy was left behind to fend for himself and although he is disabled and unable to escape, hopefully the rats won't make a meal of him.
