Once the Children of Chaos have indicated their readiness, the Bailiff strides to the wall beside the portcullis and begins raising it. While he does, a gust of warm, fragrant air from the bottom of the chasm blows into the chamber while everyone waits for the gate to rise. Once the way is clear, the Bailiff steps through to look down towards where the Chaos Beast and its brood await them.

"Well, it wasn't like that before. That will certainly prove .... interesting. Another reason to select another creature for this test."

When Xenia glances over the lip of the ledge, the rogue immediately notices what may be the source of the fragrant odour. The lower half of the chasm, including the ledge, seems to be coated with something ... something rigid enough to bridge the chasm in many places. Xenia can't really tell more because the shadows cast by the walls of the chasm and the constructed bridges.

When everyone else looks over, the sharp-eyed catch glimpses of movement down below but nothing large enough to match the descriptions of the chaos beast provided by the Bailiff.

"Remember, when we went down en masse, it simply retreated and drove its brood into the tunnels that it has made. You will probably have to find a way to draw the beast out."

The dark rogue creeps back from the cliff's edge, invisible and cloaked in shadows, she is unseen by everyone save Momma Rash.

"I dunno 'bout that, Durgan," her voice comes from the empty air near the dwarf's left shoulder. "Angel Bailiff Gu ... er ... The Bailiff said we need some way to draw them Chaos Beasts our or we gotta start chasing them down into their tunnels and caves. Seems lot more dangerous to me."

"Why not throw out a challenge? Call out the Momma Beast for a little Chaos on Chaos? Winner is Chaos Champion and gets to rule over the others. Momma Beast wins, we ally with them. Peerimus wins, they have to do what we say."

Rash looks over to Firn'gaer and says, "I can use a miracle spell to cast prying eyes to scout ahead for us but it would be better for you to cast it if possible. Do you have it on a scroll or anything?"

If Firn'gaer declines, Rash will open up her haversack and pull out her spell staff and cast the miracle stored in it using it to cast the prying eyes spell. The instructions will be, "Spread out through the tunnels and return when you see a large sized or bigger creature or 3 or more medium sized creatures."

She says to the others, "Hopefully this will give us an idea on the layout of the tunnels and where the nasties are. Better than going in blind anyway though that is our normal method of operation!"

She nudges Kazak in the arm and says, "Who knows, maybe you can catch a young one and make it into your pet!"

Common tactics for spells:
Both magical vestments spells along with Longstrider will be cast using the Karma prayer bead and the lesser extend rod. The greater Magic Weapon spell will be cast with the normal extend rod and Karma bead. This spells will last 42 hours before they need to be recast. Endure elements is also cast at night as well and lasts 24 hours

Contingency: (Cast with Miracle spell) When I cast my divine power spell, righteous might is automatically cast.
Spells staff (cast with Miracle) holds a miracle spell in it.
Twice a day Rash can cast invisibility from the tattoo.

Peerimus looks a bit side long at Durgan and smiles, "Sure? Not precisely no." He throws the Dwarf a wink. Peerimus looks over the edge and scans the spans below, "Any idea what those could be? Some type of excrementation, like webbing perhaps?" [Spot 28]

"I will take Yorrick down the path, at least I don't know of another way down with him." At that he rubs the great bear who returns the touch with a head butt.

Peerimus looks at Rash or Firnngaer, whomever cast the prying eyes spell, for a report back on what they have seen. Especially with news on what some of the creatures might actually be.

"Firn'gaer, do you have a low level summoning spell? Might be a good idea to test out that stuff with something besides us. Would be nice to know if it is sticky, thorny or filled with acid. In fact, it could be the monster we are looking for that Chaos transformed. That would suck!"

The Children of Chaos debate allowing Peerimus to go ahead with only Yorrick for company but, in the end, the druid takes the role of drawing out the Chaos Beast so his companions can attack the spawn. besides, even here in this place outside the normal Wold, the magic of the deck may be in force.

Options for aiding Peerimus' descent are debated but no final decision is made. Several people peer over the edge to try and discern what they will be descending into. From their vantage point at the portcullis where the tunnel enters the chasm, they estimate that it is roughly 250 feet to the bottom where the tunnels can be barely seen. From this point, they would guess that the smallest of the tunnels is easily man-high.

The coating on the sides of the chasm remind some of beeswax, if bees could get so large. Firn'gaer tells everyone that it is not magical. Rash has his magical spies return and they inform him that a large creature is at the bottom of the chasm, under one of the lower bridges, spreading something against the walls. Many medium and smaller creatures are also nearby, seemingly working at the walls of the chasm as well.

"You wanna test the bridges 'n stuff, take this, Momma Rash." Xenia presses a gray back into the cleric's hands. "Just reach in and grab one of the puff balls. Throw it and it becomes a critter. Neat Bag of Tricks."

Then, as Peerimus turns into one of those Airnados and jumps off into the chasvalley, Xenia follows. The rogue drops head downward and arms folded at her side. She keeps pace with Yorrick but follows near the walls where she can draw upon the shadows to hide herself, remaining in reserve in case she's needed.

Rash takes the map and marks down where the creatures are currently after her prying eyes report back in. She will then cast a fly spell on herself and start floating about the ground. She grins at Xenia and takes the proffered item and says, "I just want to make sure if we touch that stuff, something bad doesn't happen.

She will activate the item, (not sure if I get a choice of creatures) and send it over the edge onto the honey like substance.

(ooc not sure if we are in combat rounds yet but I assumed we were not)

Getting a Reaction (DM JohnP)

The creatures down at the bottom of the chasm react shortly after Peerimus takes the form of an elemental and moves away from the mouth of the tunnel. Maybe it isn't Peerimus but the flying bear that causes alarm, but it really doesn't matter. The largest creature moves out from under bridge and begins hooting and meeping, apparently communicating with the smaller creatures, since all of them move towards the mouths of the caverns. But not inside since, presumably, watching their progenitor deal with threats like a flying bear and an elemental is an educational activity.

Xenia sees all of this from her position on the path close to where Peerimus is hovering. Everyone else is learning this through the magic that the Children of Chaos possess.

The creature waits expectantly for Peerimus and Yorrick, perhaps even hungrily. It's now merely a question of how the Children are going to time and make their assault.

Chaos Beast Guys. No. More than that, Chaos Beast Spawn Guys. What a weerdo thing.

Through the magic of the Tattoo, the girl rogue can feel the other Chaos Guys moving forward, coming down. They're coming down. Is this too soon? Will they spook all of the Chaos Spawn Beast Guys?

Xenia's invisible eyes scrunch down to slits of scrutiny. If the Spawn Guys do make a run for it, what might she do to stop them? She estimates the distance between walls and draws out a scroll, standing ready to cut 'em off before they can excape.

Xenia has a point, the creature and the spawn may well be far more than simply evil creatures, unfortunately Peerimus cannot determine one way or the other without putting himself in the bees nest. A grunt to Yorrick holds the bear where he is... Peerimus then drops down closing the remaining distance in the blink of an eye and Shapechanging into an Iron Golem. "I do not come as an enemy, but as a being wishing to understand you." Peerimus speaks knowing the Feather of Affinity will translate his words into what all the creatures can understand. [Diplomacy 38] "The creatures that brought you here have recognizied that you should no longer be held and so i am here to facilitate your departure. i seek a non violent solution, will you speak?"

Peerimus is hopeful but overly so. He readies himself for an attack

As Durgan and Torgon come into view, flying down towards the bottom of the chasm, the creatures immediately react. The smaller ones rush for the caves and the large one slowly backs away as well, clearly focusing on the closer threat of Peerimus and Yorrick.

Rash and Xenia debate the nature of the beast, even as the others advance upon it.

Finally, Peerimus drops down and changes form before attempting to broker a treaty with the creature. he does not observe any reaction to his words, even with the magic of the Feather. Rash, among others, recall that chaos beasts normally do not speak. The hooting and meeping that it made earlier may be nothing more than the alarm calls of a baboon.

Finally, after some time, the entire Children of Chaos are gathered at the bottom of the chasm. The large chaos beast is backed up against the largest of the cave openings, protecting the smaller creatures. Clearly, it has recognized that the Children are a threatening group and does not wish to make the first move.

The Children back off slightly but the Chaos Beast doesn't budge from where it is sheltering its brood within the caves. Perhaps this creature is more intelligent than the norm, or perhaps its that the Children have shown their hand too soon.

It is an impasse. And no one knows how long they will have to wait for the creatures to return to their previous activity.

For that matter, no one can guess how the Court of Law would respond if they returned without performing the appointed task.

ooc back from the beach...

peerimus turns his iron head slightly left as the creature back peddles and seems to have gathered its 'young' into the cave. "These caves and caverns could all connect to each other and what seems like retreat could be a flanking move." The druid whispers through the tattoo, "Back away from me and give each other some room as well. Eyes up and back. We needn't be caught like amatuers." Peerimus then takes several steps forward with Yorrick on his left. It had no language, no communications of any kind apparently, but there must be something. Then again the druid suppossed thta three did not have to be. It could be as simple and straight forward as presented. A menace grown out of control, immune to the touch of spell and of Law.

Peerimus moves closer another 5 paces, coming to 30' away. The Druid knew patience, he would try again and he would wait.
"We know you were brought here by the Court of Law. We may be able to send you and those behind you home."

The chaos beast reacts to Peerimus' approach by rearing up slightly, raising a pseudopod from the ground and waving it at the druid in what seems to be a threatening manner. The creature, though, doesn't move away from the tunnel openings though probably because the other members of the Children, save Xenia, are still in sight.

It comes to this: advance and battle the large chaos beast, or turn and walk or fly away and leave it be, perhaps to return once the creatures have returned to their work with what everyone now realizes is a waxy coating on the floors and walls of the chasm.

The dark rogue takes a mental step back from the increasingly tense confrontation between Peerimus Druid Guy and the Chaos Momma. So, he can become Ironman Two. Casually, she wonders what tricks this Iron Guy thing can do. Rays from its hands or sump'in?

But he's right. Interesting as it may be to watch this fight, best to be vigilant. From her place of advantage up in the air, Xenia scans the area with her highly trained senses, watching and listening for any signs of an ambush.

Peerimus stands a bit longer, heaing Kazak's words he purposefully folds his arms. That lasts only a moment. A decision should be made and like his trust in drawing the cards in the first place, Peerimus opts to follow his faith in the Crones.

Commanding Yorrick to remain where he was and imagining the party will do so as well. Peerimus stides in and slams the creature with a great iron fist followed by a gout of noxious gas.

Common tactics for spells:
Both magical vestments spells along with Longstrider will be cast using the Karma prayer bead and the lesser extend rod. Endure elements is also cast at night as well and lasts 24 hours

Contingency: (Cast with Miracle spell) When I cast my divine power spell, righteous might is automatically cast.

Oooo. That one's gotta sting. The dark rogue winces as Ironman Peerimus swings one of them big chunks of metal he calls fists, raising a cloud of Green Gas Stuff all around him.

"Wait for it. Wait for it," Xenia whispers into the Tattoo magic, forgetting for the moment that Durgan doesn't have it anymore. Her eyes and ears continue to scan the Chasvalley, taking in quadrants at two second intervals. Couldn't hurt to be prepared for an ambush. Even though these Chaos Critters don't really look to be the ambush types.

Durgan, Kazak and Torgon stand around the floor of the chasm wondering which way Peerimus will choose to go. The waxy substance coating the floor and sides of the chasm makes for good footing, really, and they figure that this is as good a place as any for fighting.

Xenia is hovering overhead, casually watching the action unfolding below. Her view is partly obscured by two low bridges that are close to Peerimus and the others.

Peerimus finally acts, striding forward and smashing down with a very satisfying <SQUISH> into the body of the chaos beast. The golem then breathes a noxious cloud of gas that may weaken the opponent.

Rash follows this with a Prayer for the coming fight and some spells, just like Torgon. Xenia keeps watching from overhead.

The chaos beast shudders under the mighty blow of the golem form that Peerimus is wearing and then seems to shrink from the blast of poison that follows.

The beast responds by lashing out with two arm-like pseudopods, barely scratching the surface of the golem. But that is possibly enough for the insidious nature of the creature to possibly attack Peerimus.

Rash is also frustrated at watching only Peerimus fight the creature of chaos. While she preached tolerance for the encounter, she is also a priestess of war and isn't used to sitting on the sidelines. Still until another foe steps up or Peerimus is either slain or successful, she would wait.

Peerimus shrugs off the damage from the Chaos Beast, the creature's claws sliding off the hard armored body that Peerimus has assumed. In return, the druid slams his fist down on the Chaos Beast. The beast's unstable forms splashes under the assault but it continues to fight.

The beast strikes again, not yet realizing that it cannot harm Peerimus.

"I hate to say this, but there is something that is not right about this. At least as things stand now. The creature only defended itself after it was attacked. it may not be able to communicate, but it's actions are more suggestive of a good creature. Have we taken into account the possibility that we were lied to as part of the test."

"Any evil or naturally nasty creature I have ever dealt with has had no problem sacrificing it's minions/spawn to assist in it's own survival or combat to it's betterment. This creature seems, at least at present, willing to sacrifice itself to help in the survival of it's spawn. That to me does not seem like a creature that should be destroyed, and I don't care what the holier than thou powers upstairs say. This is not right."

"You all know that I am a minotaur of action and war, but only against that which needs be destroyed. Much like the dragons we faced before, I think we need to give it a chance to show it's true intent, even after we attacked it with no provocation. Xenia, I know I chastised you before, and put my money where your mouth was, but you were right. If we wage war without knowing the true reason we do so, and agreeing with it, then we are simply tools of destruction and slaughter. I guess I will put my money where my mouth is on this occasion."

Torgon puts his chain away, and walks slowly towards the chaos beast.

"Peerimus, you are wise in most courses of action, but is it possible that the benefit gained from the deck has skewed your judgement? For if this being is not truly your enemy, then no benefit shall befall you. I ask you, hold your attacks for the moment. It cannot likely hurt you, so there is really no downside. Give it a chance. Just because it is unable to communicate does not mean it must be destroyed."

"Rash, how about a detect evil and/or good on it? any possibility?"

Torgon uses his move to approach the creature, arms spread wide.

"I hope this is not going to bite me in the rear....or face...or chest...or anywhere. Stupid morals" He thinks to himself.

The dark rogue moves not an inch from where she's at. But in her mind, she's thinking furiously. What are the possibilities here?

Possibility one. This is some kinda test that the Court 'o Law types are running. They want to see whether the Chaos Guys favor compassion over duty. Things look slap-dashy and not so well defined up because the Law Guys are either not so smart and got themselves into this mess in the way they described. Or, the Law Guys are really smart and they set things up to look disorderly in order to throw in subtle shadows of doubt.

Which is actually right, though? Compassion for a bunch of weerdo blobby guys? Or the safety of the entire Southern Wold? And, given the Law Guys are ... well ... Law Guys, which answer would they think was right?

Possibility two. This is some kinda test set up by someone completely different. Someone they haven't even seen before. But why? What evidence is there of this? Nothing. Xenia rejects this idea outright.

Possibility three. Them Court 'o Law types are actually evil lying fram farbers, and they're after getting the Chaos Guys to destroy down something that's actually good and innocent. That would explain why things have gotten so sloppy and messed around. But why would Angels and such involve themselves with a scheme like this? Why would they really *need* the Chaos Guys in the first place.

The thoughts crowd the dark girl's mind, filling it to bursting. So many if's, so many pieces that don't fit together. Where is the sense in this? What makes sense?

In the end, there's only one thing to hold onto in the drifting sea of speculation: Hard fact. Fact: The Southern Continent is in trouble and this Migration needs to be stopped. Fact: The voices at the Edge pointed them to the Court of Law to stop the Migration and all the things said by the voices at the Edge came true. They actually led them here. These are facts. Facts that cannot be denied.

"Beat, 'im down, Peerimus!" Xenia gives her presence away by shouting out loud. "Beat, 'im down! Lets get the help we need from the Court of Law, and lets get out of here."

Rash also is feeling some inner torment over the course of events. She listens to Torgon and then Xenia and ends up siding with Torgon. She beams to all of the Children but aims it at Peerimus, "Peerimus, I know it is a lot to ask but you only have to defeat the monster, not necessarily kill it. I think this is looking at our intent more than our capablilities. We aren't seeing much of a threat here. I think you should subdue the monster. If the Law folks are looking for assassins, I don't want to be a part of it. These creatures while strange, don't seem to be making much of threat. We are forces of chaos in these lands but we are also forces of good. What we are doing here isn't good."

Rash yells out to the baliff, "This test is unjust! Why do these creatures deserve death? If I fail the test, so be it, I won't be a party to killing creatures who are just trying to live. They threaten no one and haven't shown they deserve death!"

"Ye know, we have been in some pretty good scraps, and this doesn't seem ta be one of them." The dwarf doesn't say whether he thinks they are passing or failing the test. He just stands with his arms crossed, his axe and shield within easy reach. And makes a blunt statement as only a dwarf can. "Ye know all this argiung we are doing is kinda...chaotic."

Peerimus's mind races like many of the others. There ws the lesson from the dragons. It waged against his own compassion. The fact that this was a very one sided fight, but that was likely only because of the druids spell to hold a form the creature could not hurt. This test, this tas, what was the true motive. The Court was bound in Law and like so many other forces of that genre they had encountered, Compassion did not seem totruly fit into the equation. The attack on his grove and indeed his friends had shown that. The group was torn. Was this simply an execution, was this a creature too dangerous? where were the spawn of this creature? Too many questions and no clear path.
The creature before the druid, to him at any rate, was a horrid abomination like that of an undead creature. The label of assassin, however, that Rash assigned did not sit well with Peerimus. Press the advantage, give quarter?
Indecision plagues the leader of the Children of Chaos. Leadr of the Champions of the Crones and the Powers of the southern continent . Rarely was there a circumstance that the druid could not see multiple facets and sides of outcome, yet here he stood and Peerimus had to admit to himself that the road was not clear, no not clear, the road could not even be seen.
The dim light of possibility aligts within his mind adn with that thought a gamble surfaces. One he believes worth the risk.
Peerimus shifts through the ShapeChange spell into the very creature he fights and tries again at communication...trying to impart his desire to resolve the situation without the culmination result that would be the creatures death. It communication were possible this might be the only recourse.

While Peerimus is preparing for another mighty strike, the others are debating the rights and wrongs of what they have been asked to do for the Court of Law. Rash even goes so far as to shout up towards where the Bailiff waits for them to complete the Test. After the echoes of his voice die away, Rash and everyone else hear a response from the Bailiff that seems to come from the air beside them.

"You volunteered to take the Test, and the Court chose this as the Test. Deal with the pests that plague the roots of the Court!"

From her vantage point high above, Xenia notices movement on top of the lower bridges, including those near the battle between Peerimus and the Chaos Beast.

Peerimus shifts back into the iron golem form, but for protection more than anything else. It was assumed the test was a stagnant thing, not some whim of the court of Law. The fact that it was not, did not sit well with Peerimus. "If this Court of Law is thinking that the Powers of Chaos are of so short a memroy as to forget such a thing as this, the Court is foolish." The Iron golem that is Peerimus intones hallow and without emotion. Peerimus looks up as Xenia's warning is called out. A slow developing tactic if that was indeed the original purpose, but it easy to conclude that the power that he alone could bring to bear would be underestimated.

More importatnt ot the druid though was that the creature made no move against him. What would be the outcome if he did not move against the creature? They would 'fail' the test. What were the repurcussions of such a thing? At every level this Court of Law failed in his own eyes. Angles, demons, gods of the north, none were worthy of anything but contempt. Yet he could not condem them all unilaterally. Some may simply lack courage, others wisdom. The situation to the druid was too dire and so he steps into the creature again

While Peerimus is preparing for another mighty strike, the others are debating the rights and wrongs of what they have been asked to do for the Court of Law. Rash even goes so far as to shout up towards where the Bailiff waits for them to complete the Test. After the echoes of his voice die away, Rash and everyone else hear a response from the Bailiff that seems to come from the air beside them.

"You volunteered to take the Test, and the Court chose this as the Test. Deal with the pests that plague the roots of the Court!"

From her vantage point high above, Xenia notices movement on top of the lower bridges, including those near the battle between Peerimus and the Chaos Beast. The half-elven rogue moves through the shadows until she is at the end of the bridge where she sees several of the spawn creeping forward, having squeezed through small opening cut into the waxy coating on the walls. The skin of the beasts is now nearly the same colour as the wax but this camouflage is not sufficient to escape the rogue's sharp eyes.

Rash sees the same when she moves upwards slightly.

While this is occurring, Peerimus shifted into the form of the Chaos Beast to see if that stopped the assault. The Beast hesitates slightly but then continues to attack the druid. Both claws hit but barely harm Peerimus.
Claw 1 - hits AC 35, 8 damage (this form is also immune to the Corporeal Instability)
Claw 2 - hits AC 30, 7 damage


It seems that the spawn have not noticed that they have been spotted.

Xenia reports what she sees to the others through the magic of the Chaos Tattoo before returning a scroll to her pouch.

Torgon prepares to enter battle, loosening the links of his spiked chain.

Firn'gaer asks for a target for his empowered Fireball and Xenia quickly replies with a suggested target.

Durgan moves north, closer to Yorrick.

Peerimus again takes the form of an iron golem and pounds the Chaos Beast again. The Beast is clearly suffering from attempting to fight the druid in a straight-up battle but is not yet out of the fight.

Kazak moves to join his brother to support Yorrick.

Firn'gaer now unleashes his empowered Fireball, targeting a point 40 feet from the eastern end of the southern bridge, as directed by Xenia. This places the fireball almost exactly in the centre of the bridge and will surely catch nearly all of the smaller spawn in the flames. The fiery bead streaks down from above, unerringly targeting the bridge. When it explodes in flames, the waxy substance of the bridge immediately ignites and fuels the fire. The Fireball grows uncontrollably as the flames are fed by the vapours from the melting wax, eventually growing to twice the intended size and catching Peerimus, Yorrick, Durgan and Kazak within the flames. The bridge collapses, tumbling the smaller beasts into the melting wax that is now covering the floor. Worse, the flames have ignited the wax so that Kazak and Durgan (not to mention the chaos beasts) are caught in a spreading conflagration. Still worse, the molten wax is slippery just like a Grease spell. A plume of smoke rises from the floor of the cavern.

The Chaos Beast strikes at Peerimus again, hitting his iron form twice but still failing to actually injure the druid. It then retreats a step towards the cave entrance.

Beast 15 charges Peerimus, allowing the druid to attack as it closes. Even if it survives, the creature cannot hit the iron golem.

Common tactics for spells:
Both magical vestments spells along with Longstrider will be cast using the Karma prayer bead and the lesser extend rod. The greater Magic Weapon spell will be cast with the normal extend rod and Karma bead. This spells will last 42 hours before they need to be recast. Endure elements is also cast at night as well and lasts 24 hours

Contingency: (Cast with Miracle spell) When I cast my divine power spell, righteous might is automatically cast.
Spells staff (cast with Miracle) holds a miracle spell in it.
Twice a day Rash can cast invisibility from the tattoo.

Well. That's sump'in you don't see everyday. Waxy build up. The situation doesn't look too bad. But looks like the guys might need a little distraction a'fore they get on their feet.

"HEY!" From out of thin air, the rogue's voice shouts out to draw attention. She charges down on one of the Weerdo Beasts drawing from her bag the electric crowbar she got from inside the Tower of Boydos. "HEY, YOU!" Sparks fly as she smashes the crowbar down on the thing's head ... or it's butt ... or ... who knows? "Hey, you," she repeats again, "ever hit a girl?"

The fire rages about Peerimus, but the druid pays it no heed. Indeed the magical fire heals his body rather than injures him. Peerimus manages to keep his feet in the slippery wax [Reflex 17] and as one of the creatures closes, the druid strikes hard. [PA -5 Hit AC 35 Dmg 26]

More creatures begin to swarm in and the creature retreats. Perimus barks a command to Yorrick and pursues the main Chaos beast. Ignoring the others and tier ineffective strikes against him.

Peerimus keeps his feet again as he moves across the wax to re-engage the Chaos Beast. [Reflex 16 PA -5 Hit AC 33 Dmg 33 I can't get to the map If I can move and still strike 2 times I do so. 2nd attack Hit AC 34 Dmg 25]

Fire blasts into Yorrick, the great bear rises and bellows as the fire rages about him. Somehow Yorrick manages to avoid the full blast. [Reflex 36]. The slippery wax does not cause him much trouble and the now very mad bear turns to the coming creatures. Peerimus, his friend, bade him to do battle, though he needed no prompting. Yorrick slams into one of the creatures that has closed to do battle.

Xenia reveals herself and charges one of the spawn attacking Yorrick. Her bar hits home and damages the creature.

Firn'gaer unleashes another spell and thins the crowd of spawn considerably. Some still remain, however, to bedevil his companions.

Kazak activates the magic of his Tattoo and lifts from the ground. He grabs his brother and flies towards the sole remaining bridge, climbing slightly to reach the 15 foot height of the bridge. Once the dwarven brothers land on the bridge, Durgan drinks a potion and grows in size, making the bridge grown beneath them. From their vantage point, the dwarf can see the small tunnel openings that the spawn created and then squeezed through.

Peerimus ignores the spawn and pursues the Chaos Beast. The druid has to move 10 feet, allowing the spawn to attack, but none of these creatures present any threat to the iron golem form presently being used by Peerimus. A mighty fist slams down once on the creature. The damage is impressive and Peerimus has clearly hurting the thing but it is still breathing.

Yorrick attacks the two nearest spawn, destroying them utterly. The great bear then steps out of the flaming wax.

Torgon casts a spell and grows in size. The minotaur waits for one of the creatures to move unwisely.

The Chaos Beast ignores Peerimus and retreats into the tunnel. The tunnel is large enough that Peerimus could probably go down after the thing but it would be a tight fit.

The spawn continue to swarm around Peerimus but none of these are more than an annoyance.

The flames advance, spreading as the wax continues to melt. Two of the spawn are burned slightly. Peerimus is unaffected, of course, but Yorrick is burned again.

Whoa. Xenia brings up an arm to shield her face from the bright flashes of lightning that arc from one Beast Guy to the next. When her eyes adjust from the electric flash, there are none left standing. From the corner of her eye, though, Xenia spies the Momma Beast making a run for the cave. In a swirl of dark robes she's off. The girl rogue streaks across the floor of the Chasvalley, arrowing for the cave mouth. As she nears the Chasvalley wall, Xenia jumps into the available shadows and zooms over the top of the two Chaos Critters guarding the cave entrance.

"I'm inside the cave," the rogue reports over the Tattoo Magic. Momma Rash would have seen her go in. And the Tattoo Magic would let the others sense her location. But there's little substitute for the spoken word. "I'm gonna follow Momma Chaos Critter. I'll try and report back what I see."

Yorrick moves out of the flames and around to the left. He clips Durgan as he gets back away from the flames. His natural preservation instincts kicking in hard with no direct opponents about. [Move to O/6]

The creature is retreating, the druid expects a trap. Perhaps a cave in or just a more tightly controlled battefield. Peerimus decides that niether present a grave danger and so he moves into the tunnel. Peerimus squeezes in and moves 20' down the tunnel.

(ooc assuming blade barrier wasn't used. Rash is now large sized now and has damage reduction +15/evil)

Rash using her quicken rod will cast divine power, which activates her contingency spell righteous might and she will swoop down and strike #11 hitting it with a critical hit for 132 points of damage!

(ooc rolled two natural 20's to see if it was a critical hit! sweet! I also ran into the problem that I the die roller only goes up to +50, my total pluses were +57 so I added it on in the end. I did a +18 power attack to get the pluses)

"There's light in here. It's dim light, but I can see, so there must be some light. Be ready for that," the rogue warns.

Xenia arrows past Iron Peerimus, passing to his right just under his massive arm. "Forty-fifty feet in the tunnel, looks like it opens into a bigger place. I'm going in."

With the speed of flight, the plucky rogue covers the distance to the opening and cuts sharply to the right. More slowly, she rises as she distances herself from the opening to the bigger cave. She rises five more feet and leaves a 20-foot space between herself and the tunnel mouth. All the while she keeps up a running description of what she sees, so that the Chaos Guys might be prepared, so that they not be caught off guard when they charge in as they will most surely be doing any moment now.

"I may not be able to enter without great difficulty," the minotaur shouts to the other Champions of Chaos, referring to his towering size, larger even than Peerimus' iron form. "You go ahead. I'll cover the rear and try to join you later."

Peerimus knew Yorrick was fine and he could get back to him in the blink of an ee if necessary so the druid concentrates his efforts forward. Xenia says the tunnel opens ahead and that it was lit. Odd. Peerimus decides to simply enter the main chamber. The druid shifts into a medium Air elemental and flies into the larger chamber moving up as soon as he clears the tunnel as high as he is able.
He then casts a trained eye about the cave for the obvious and the subtle. [Spot 35]

Rash, Torgon and Kazak quickly make a hash of the spawn who have remained outside attempting to guard the retreat of their progenitor.

Xenia flies deeper into the cave and then swoops upward within the chamber. It seems that they have the Chaos Beast cornered for while the rogue sees several other openings from this cave, none seem to be large enough to accommodate this beast.

Peerimus also enters the cave, spinning upwards towards the ceiling about 25 ft above the floor. The druid does not spot any other creatures within the cave besides the Chaos Beast. Of course, more spawn could come pouring out of those smaller tunnels at any time, Peerimus guesses. And the Chaos Beast seems to be healing, filling out the massive crushing wounds caused by his iron golem fists.

Durgan looks and figures that, since both Peerimus and the Chaos Beast managed to fit, even his enlarged form could get down the tunnel.

He'd have to make the jump into an unknown space. That would be the best option, risky though it may be. So go Torgon's thoughts as he waits for the others to move into the tunnel. So is he occupied, even as he himself moves into position before the mouth of the tunnel.

One advantage might be the tattoo that he's been cursed with all of his life. It gives him the feel of the location of these other cursed Children of Chaos, the same feeling as the divine spell of Status. With this information, he may be able to transfer himself into the cave with safety.

So distracted are Torgon's thoughts that he realizes too late, that were any foe to emerge now and come within range to attack, that he would have missed for certain.

Lots of other tunnels, but no way out for Momma Beast. Now, why would Momma Beast run into a cave from which she's not gonna easily get out? Sounds jinky. Sounds trappish. Xenia flies to the nearest opening and maneuvers around the corner so as to get for herself a better look. Pulling back out, the dark rogue follows the wall around to look into the next hole, and then the next again.

Peerimus flies down and shifts back into the Iron Golem form [Move to K9] he considers several spells, but dismisses each as it comes to his mind. No this would simply remain an action of brute power. The Chaos beast was running out of places to go and so far advanced tactics did not seem to be part of its game plan. So the Druid prepares to continue the fight ina straight forward manner

Torgon gets ready to enter the cave.

Xenia flies about, checking the smaller tunnels entering on the north side of the cave. She sees and hears nothing back in the dark, dim distance.

Durgan heads partway down the tunnel. Kazak is concerned that this may be a trap but keeps pace with his brother. As the dwarfs advance, they do not notice anything unusual about the stone of the tunnel. And Rash keeps pace, as well.

Peerimus changes form again before advancing upon the Chaos Beast.

Firn'gaer lands outside the cave and casts a spell to become invisible.

The Chaos Beast advances and attacks Peerimus again. Both claws hit but don't manage to injure the druid while he is in the form of an iron golem.

"Looks all clear," reports the rogue. She makes for the remaining tunnels. "Punch her down, Peerimus." Xenia whispers encouragement as she passes from one tunnel to the next.

With the twisty-bendy nature of the tunnels, this would depend more on hearing than sight. Xenia listens with keen elfish ears as she enters each of the tunnels. If anything moves deeper within, surely she would detect its approach.

Xenia scouts more tunnels and finds more of the same. Dark, echoing and empty.

Torgon stands guard outside the cave, waiting for more of the spawn. Nothing comes, though.

Durgan moves into chamber, behind Peerimus, and waits to see if his assistance is required.

Peerimus smashes one fist into the Chaos Beast but his other strike goes wide.

Kazak moves into the chamber, as well.

The Chaos Beast continues attacking Peerimus, with exactly the same effect. After, it steps back 5 feet from Peerimus towards Xenia.
