Harpy nest. (coDm Glenn) Home sweet home
Friday July 23rd, 2010 5:29:47 PM

Regaining her selfcontrol, Vorelle makes her way back to the river and the row boat.

Aztyr offers to tow the row boat across the river.

Seeing the Mother effectually destitute, Valanthe give her a stash of coins. The Mother thanks Valanthe "Bless you."

Vauhwyt works with the fledgling harpies, finding they are fast learners, both in flying and click training. They copy the clicking sound with eerie procession. When corrected, Bliss echos "Bliss...... Eat ...... Sisters" The spirit harpy advises Vauhwyt when asked that if the young can't fly soon after haching then let it fall to it death. Survival of the strong, no room for the weak. Once Vauhwyt starts to fly, the fledglings quickly find their wings and take to the air following her to the forest side of the river. Hope and Joy are fighting terribly over a stick. Grace is trying to catch a fish.

Whysper remains on the far bank with Vauhwyt, much to the liontaur's relief. Appolo comments about making the fledgling into pirates as he feed them some beef jerky. The Fledglings stop what they are doing and gather around him greedly grabing at the bits food and hungrily gobbling them down. Joy steal a strip of jerky from hope and they start fighting again. It dosn't take very long for the small creatures to get dirty again. Also, you should think about getting them some clothing.

Ashira having returned to the scene of the battle, itches for a battle she can fight.

Malgant offers help and food to the mother and her two surviving children, together they get salvage what they can. The mother is Ellen and the kids are Jack and Jill.

Ellen is very glad of the assistance and offer to escort them to the fair, she shakes with revultion as she looks across the river to where Vauhwyt is keeping the fledglings "Your not seriously going to let her raise and release those devil birds are you?

OOC to Appolo: I was looking at your sheet to see if you had any ranks in survival ... good for teaching baby harpies to fish. And I see that you have "pick pockets" and "read lips" listed among your skills! LOL! Dude, they took those out of the game like five years ago! Roll your Read Lips ranks into Spot and change your Pick Pockets to Sleight of Hand!

Sorry to scold, but ... seriously! :-)

Vauwhyt breaks up fights, reinforces the "DO NOT eat your sisters" lesson, and casts another cantrip to clean them up.

She praises Grace enthusiastically for her curiosity. If Vorelle or Ashira is on this side of the river, the liontaur will ask them "pretty please" to help teach the babies to catch fish. If not, she will do the bet she can ... untrained Survival is an 8, ouch! She looks at Whysper and shrugs.

But after that horrible failure, if Ashira and Vorelle are not around, she casts her Mon Sum IV to help. Maybe it will be Ark again. She tells the lantern archon, "Please go tell Ashira and Vorelle that I really really need them. Beg them for me to come overr." She describes them if necessary. The rowboat is on their side of the river, I think.

She is hoping her friends can help her teach the babies to fish.

She also looks at the three unhatched eggs. She uses a charge of her wand of CLW on each, in case the babies inside are hurt. She listens at each, and tries to figure out if they are okay. She also hopes they will be able to tell if there are living things within, or if it is hopeless.

Aztyr searches the wrecked wagon for a barrel that has had only 1 end punched out of it, she will then roll it to the river, wash it out and then roll it back to the area Malgant is setting up for a camp.
Setting it up so the opening is at the top, she triggers the Brahmah's Tattoo and creates 2 gallons of fresh pure water. Seeing how little it appears to be in the bottom of the barrel, she triggers it 2 more times for a total of 6 gallons of fresh water. "Malgant, you might want to add some more water to this barrel when you get a chance, it'll be nice for refilling water jugs and skins."
She heads for the mother and the two children.
"I tend to agree that her, teaching them right from wrong is gonna end in failure, but it is her choice and I've got to let her do her own thing.
What I came over here for was to ask if I could use some simple spells to clean up you and your children, before we all settle in to eat dinner."

If she agrees, Aztyr will use 1 prestidigitation on each of them, to clean them up and make them smell cleaner as well, leaving the scent of the open plains of her home, away from the cities that Vauhwyt grew up in.

After that, as all kids need some time to play, she starts a quick game of hide and seek. If these fledglings are to survive in this world then they'll need to learn how to find their own prey, as well as avoiding becoming something elses! 24 on Spot and 29 on Hide. OOC: Loot dispersal ...

To save time, here's how I calculate the Loot value:

8x sets of Mithral chain shirts black as night, but very light weight easy to hide with faint magic. (+1 Mithral chain shirt w/Shadow ablity.)
-- value 5,850 x 8 = 46,800 gp
8x Potion of Cure serious wounds
-- value 750 x 8 = 6,000 gp
8x rings with faint protective magic (+1)
-- value 2,000 x 8 = 16,000 gp
7x Darkwood composite long bows built for a strong person (STR14) Faint magic (+1)
-- value 2,630 x 7 = 18,410 gp
1x Magic Quiver (Efficient Quiver) with 20 unholy arrows, and 20 Merciful arrows.
-- value 1,800 + 3,320 + 7,320 = 12,440 gp
8x Masterwork Longswords - Not magic.
-- value 315 x 8 = 2,520 gp
1x Darkwood composite long bow built for a strong person (STR14) with stronger aura than +1.
-- value 8,630 gp (assumes +2, may be worth more)

Identifies needed: 32 at cost 3,520 gp

Value of Loot: 46,800 + 6,000 + 16,000 + 18,410 + 12,440 + 2,520 + 8,630 - 3,530 = 107,270 gp

Divided among: Vauhwyt, Aztyr, Vorelle, Appolo, Val, Ashira, Whysper, and Mal = 13,409 gp each

After selling to Catacombs = 12,068 gp each

NOTE: Maybe more depending on that bow.

Question: Does anyone want any of this treasure? Or can I go sell it all for the group and get the cash?

" As far as her raising the Harpy young goes Ellen, I think it will end up hurting someone and is a bad idea. But she is a friend who made a promise to do so. She has stood by me through many trials and I will stand by her in this one, trying to prevent as much harm to others as I can. Either they will learn to be good, or she will give up and something will need to be done to end their evil. If my support help her teach them to be good then she will have it." As he speaks, Malgant pulls some fabric from the wreckage of the wagon and erects a crude tent out of it so that Ellen and her children might get some quiet rest before moving on in the morning. He also helps Aztyr fill the barrel with clean water.( cast create water making 26 gallons of water per cast, I think once is probably enough.)

ooc, I listed what that bow is when people looted the harpys. It still needs to be identified but you should be able to value out the distance part ( adds +1) to get your math done. I would only note that Mithril is very light and could probably be slept in for those that it fits, eliminating some of the problems of sleeping without armor should we ever be attacked in the night.
Other than that we should keep the healing potions and PASS OUT THE ONES JERRY GAVE US FOR RESPONDING RAPIDLY TO HIS EMAIL CLEANUP

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Sunday July 25th, 2010 6:51:11 PM

So of the Harpy Loot, we will keep the 8 potions of Cure Serious Wounds and give one to each of us.

Jerry's reward potions includes the following:

7 critical healing potions
1 potion of enlarge person
1 potion of levitate
1 potion of gaseous form
1 potion of invisibility
1 potion of spider climb

Note that those potions of Cure Critical Wounds are very rare -- they cannot exist using the core D&D rules, although Woldian Witches can make them like this. Of the remaining potions, I suggest that we give them all as a set to the person who does not get a Cure Critical Wounds potion. Comments?

I am going off to the Catacombs to sell the rest of the loot and do some dealing of my own. If you want any of the loot, speak up fast like!

At this age, it is the responsibilitly of their parents to ensure a decent upbringing. You have taken on quite a burden, my friend" she says to Vauhwyt "You realise they will ask questions about their mother and her death when they are older. I do not envy you that conversation"

Whysper continues to entertain the children while Vauhwyt looks over the loot. Using some sleight of hand, she makes the food seemingly appear from behind the young harpies wings Sleight of Hand: 34

"Do you think the young ones would value their maternal mothers bow in future? Perhaps something to remember her by, and to consider the path she chose? I doubt Mal's trophy of feathers would be appropriate"

I really don't need healing potions. Those should go to you guys that cannot readily heal yourselves. Dividing Jerry's pots that way works fine for me. I also think that selling the loot as you suggested is fine too, unless someone wants a specific piece. I just think its a good idea for those that can't spontaneously heal have another means of doing so, without need for a UMD check 8). I don't want to be lying on the ground at -9 waiting to see if you can make a UMD target...if you know what I mean...8)

Oh, and it was a lock of hair as a trophy. Some Taurs take pride in being able to face an opponent in single combat and be victorious. The trophy helps remind them of their battle and aids them in fighting that type of creature in the future.

Vorelle
Sunday July 25th, 2010 11:46:02 PM

"I'd like the quiver and the merciful arrows, please," Vorelle says.

She's a little troubled by the scheme to raise and release the harpy chicks. She hopes Vahwyt is right about them, but her knowledge of nature is pulling her the other way.

She helps the family as best she can, tending hurts with her healer's kit, and basically being visible and human, which may help.

Aztyr thinks it over and eventually says, "I really can't do healing, I have a tatto that allows some minor healing. I can heal more than a scratch, but anything serious is far beyond my ability. So a couple potions, one from the harpys and one that appeared in that pouch that appeared out of the graces of the Powers that Be would be a boon for me,"

Still very much on Vauhwyt's side of the river, Ashira gladly agrees to show some of the young how to fish. She takes a fallen branch and whittles it into a spear and then goes about showing the harpies how to wait for just the right minute to snag their pray. (Survival=18). She shrugs about what to do with the chicks. It's a difficult question indeed, and one she's not very well equipped to handle. She has heard tale about people who love those that would be deemed Monsters...perhaps they could find one of these Monstrologers...or whatever they were called. It is very certain that the younglings need someone to attend to them now and Ashira is not willing to perform that duty. It was a very difficult question indeed!!

OOC fast ... more detailed post later on.

V has a plan to raise the kids. She has an agenda to pursue. She has to make them a home, get some tutors/keepers, and set things up. Two weeks of activity, maybe. I've talked this over with our very kind DM. If anyone wants to come with me, we'll do what needs doing, and then hopefully be done. Anyone / everyone else can go do something else ... taking the family to the fair?

So I'm splitting the party! Ugh, sorry! Anyone (everyone?) want to come make a home, babysit harpies, teach them to fish and be good, and help set up a house/castle/village? Just for a couple weeks!

I've got many more details on the plan, to post here or in e-mail to anyone interested.

First thing the next morning, we're off.

**** Harpy Fledglings *****

Vauhwyt breaks up one fight between Hope and Joy, then tries to encourage Grace and the other to fish. Using intimidation to control them works pretty well so far. They amazingly good at imitation repeating words and actions. They know their names, and are starting to use two word sentences.

When Vauhwyt tries, but fails to catch a fish, and then Whysper and Ashira show the how by catching three, they all watch and give it a try. Faith catches two, Hope fails, but uses intimidation to still one from Faith. Grace catches three fish. Both bliss and Joy fail to catch any, they are trying to steal some of Graces extra fish. All this fish catching is getting the harpy fledglings dirty again. The three unhatched eggs seem unresponsive.

After fishing Whysper tries to teach them the game hid and seek. It works better than she can imagine. Whysper hides, and they all start looking for her only Grace comes close to finding her. Then the others start hiding their natural black feathered wings help in the forest, but Whysper is able to find them all.

Whysper discusses the upbringing of the young and destiny, and entertain the chicks with slight of hand tricks.

Appolo helping with the little harpies, sings them a pirate tune as he comments on their future. The young sing along with Appolo.

Ashira suggest find a Monstrologers to raise the young.

They are quick to mimic the skills you demonstrate Preform, Slight of hand, spot, hide, intimidate and survival.

*** Mother (Ellen) and Kids (Jack and Jill) *****

Aztyr gets a usable barrel from the ruin wagon and fills it up with as much water as she can create. The helps the mother with her two children giving them a prestidigitation bath. The kids clam it tickles.

Building a crude shelter out the wagon wreckage, Malgant tries to ease Ellen's mind on Vauhwyt raising the harpy fledglings. He helps fill the barrel with more water.

Looking over the loot, Vorelle hopes Vahwyt knows what she is doing as she tends any cuts and scraps of the humans they rescued. They are good health, but tired. Most of there woulds are not physical.

Aztyr discusses the treasure and makes herself comfortable for the night.

Ellen puts her kids to sleep and tries to get some herself, "Tomorrow we'll make our way to the fair it should only take a day with your help. Hopefully my Uncle will be there waiting. Thank you all again for your help."

The night passes uneventfully on both sides of the river.

Moderate Fortification, AC 26, 128/128 hp Malgant
Monday July 26th, 2010 4:27:37 PM

OOC
Malgant would love to help Vauhwyt build a safe base of operations that they could call home. He doesn't even mind doing it to help keep the Harpy chicks away from society at large so that they can be taught right from wrong in a place where failing doesn't mean some innocent dies. However there are a few things he HAS to consider that prevent him from doing so.

First is Ellen, Jack and Jill's safety. They need to get to the fair and be handed off to Ellen's uncle. They cannot travel alone and there is much at the fair that needs to be done. Which leads to the next point....

Second, there are refugees in need that have to be directed where it is safe to go. We now have accomplices in this plan, people who are hanging in the breeze if we go larking off for a couple weeks. People that if they get in trouble WILL summon me to help them. That's alot of reason for me to make sure they stay out of trouble. Not that a safe place to have some of those folks settle and a safe base of operations is exactly larking off, but it still isn't the goal we set ours and their sights on. Those refugees need us and, well, Malgant committed to them before he was faced with Harpy babies he would have regretted killing but would have killed nonetheless, just like Viscous's children.

Third is the point that I think Vauhwyt knows alone. The way I see it the Soul talked where only she could hear it. Not sure of that, but that's my theory. The overlord, high mage, king of nothing, whatever, that lives in Mount Bone is creating super undead. We have seen a first draft and they killed two of us, almost all of us. They need to be dealt with and stopped, end of story. Malgant for sure doesn't know this yet but that will be his position once he does know it.

If you want to split the party, it will likely get someone killed, I'll say that flat out. It will get alot accomplished that we all want/need to do however. I would hope we could all discuss this before morning, but keeping the Harpies on the other side of the river was a good call too, I wouldn't have thought of that. Malgant will be going on with the protect the Wold shtick he has. He didn't abandon protecting the Wold when Val was randomly teleported away, though he badly wanted to find her and make sure she was safe. He certainly won't do it for some Harpies.

Those are my thoughts. If you split off I will try to keep some Sendings available, but I can't make any promises.

Meta stuff -- I kinda got the okay from our DM to break off. So I think we may survive it. No guarantees, of course.

Malgant pulled Val close and watched as the mother and children settled in for the night. Looking around he took stock. Only himself Vorelle, Axtyr and Val were on this side of the river. Watches would need to be set, and they would need to be single if they were to get any sleep tonight. Unless he used the prayers Imod made for his Protectors so that they could remain sharp on those long night watches. Turning to the others he said," Get some sleep. Each of you can stand a watch with me tonight. I'll pray in the morning to Imod to take away my fatigue. Split like this we would all be tired if we tried to keep a double watch any other way. Sleep tight."

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Monday July 26th, 2010 10:59:56 PM

Vauhwyt waits for the harpy babes to fall alseep, then uses Alter Self to change into a gargoyl and fly over. In this way she will get a chance to speak with everyone, even if not all at once.

She says, apologetically, that in the morning she will be setting out west by southwest through the forest to the lake. She thinks she can get through in a single day. With any luck, she'll avoid the marshes in the middle of the forest and come out near a spot she knows -- the spot where she and Vorelle once met Ashira and Appolo and Val and fought cultists on a sinking island. That's about halfway between the two northern and southern Aisildur outposts. [OOC: between Abus and Abderas on this map.]

Then she will leave the babes with Mookie and anyone else who comes with her. She will herself teleport to Plateau City, shop at the Catacombs, sell the party loot, and get some things she needs. She will also see about hiring some people to help care for the babes.

Then she'll return, hopefully after only a short absence. After that, she has a plan to start making a house or village off the shore of Blackbird Lake. She will use magic to find the right spot, move aside lakebed muck, sink stone columns into the bedrock to act as pilings, and then make a structure above the lake surface to act as a residence.

She expects to spend a little over a week doing all this. She figures Mal has to take the human family to the fair, and see to the refugees; indeed, she is grateful to him for doing that, if he chooses. Vauhwyt is also hoping that a couple people at least will come with her, in case of danger and to help train the babes.

She mentions to Vorelle that she does not want them to have weapons to remember their mothers. Spears for fishing are bad enough. The liontaur hopes to make them as peaceful as possible.

Frankly, it bothers her to see them picking up on her intimidation. She tries to use more perform and diplomacy checks to control them, although she's not very good at that. She resolves to get a teacher for them asap.

So, who will come with Vauhwyt, and who will help Mal in his important work?

Also, Vauwhyt will try to keep a teleport slot open in case there is an emergency, especially if Mal sends for her.

Vorelle
Monday July 26th, 2010 11:32:30 PM

Vorelle listents to Vauhwyt's plans with a glazed expression. "That's...pretty ambitious," is all she can say when the liontaur has wrapped. She's afraid Vauhwyt may have bitten off more than she can chew, but she only says. "Good luck, then, to you and Mookie."

To Malgant, she says, "I'm not a spellcaster, so I can easily take middle watch. Wake me in a few hours."

And with that, she lays down and tries to get some sleep.

Whysper (AC 23 - HP 52/52)
Tuesday July 27th, 2010 1:29:16 AM

Whysper elects to travel with Vauhwyt and the young harpies. Whether something had touched a maternal instinct within her was hard to say. One thing was for sure - she did feel some regret for killing their mother. Regret was an uncommon emotion for the rogue, and she was having some trouble knowing how to act. Since Vauhwyt had discovered the young harpies, Whysper had had some difficulty separating from them, wanting to find some way to fill the void of their mother - whom she had dispatched with her blade.

==============

OOC: As you may have read on the LnB, I have taken on the position of ADM in The Forged, and will therefore have to retire Whysper for the time being. It all happened rather quickly, and I'd hoped to speak the the DMs and the group here before any official announcement on the LnB. Uel and I started in the group at the same time, and although he unfortunately had to retire somewhat early, I've had a great time. The reason for the move, as I said to Jerry, was that I'd be keen to join a group starting from 1st lvl and working up, and would also like to take on some ADM responsibilities.

Going with Vauhwyt and her harpies seems like a logical place to "park" Whysper, though I'll keep posting until the story wraps up.

Whysper was my first character, and Blackbird Lake was the first campaign I had played in the Wold. A truly great roleplaying group with some terrific posts. Some of the more memorable being Malgant's shield ceremony - my hat goes off to Malgant for his posts during that - and the great in-character discussions/debates/arguments that Mal, Vauhwyt and Vorelle seems to always get into. The DMs also should be thanked for the detail they went to in creating a create atmosphere.

I look forward to playing with you guys in taps, and hearing tales of the champions of Blackbird Lake sung at the Giggling Ghost.

All the best, and good hunting!

Tuesday July 27th, 2010 10:26:14 AM

Valanthe leaned against Malgant, content with looking up at the night sky. She didn't like a battle that was out of her reach. It felt wrong. Even with magic, her armor was too heavy. The harpies were just too fast for her. All that was gone now. The fire in her blood faded now so all that didn't matter. There would be other days and other battles. Now it was just the moon and the stars.

OOC: good luck Whysper. It's probably good to make the switch now. The years pass quickly and before you know it you will have too much time into a character to easily abandon it. I've lost track of how long I've been in the wold but its been a while. I've been reading the Pathfinder stuff. They have an engineering skill which I think is great. It should really help us.

*** Mother (Ellen) and Kids (Jack and Jill) *****

As the night passes the group agrees reluctantly to the plan Vauhwyt will take the harpy Fledglings to the lake side of blackbird forest, while Malgant will see the mother and her two kids to the fair where their Uncle is.

Vauhwyt outlines her plan to build a house on the sore of Blackbird Lake and go to Plateau City for supplies and help.

Vorelle wishes Vauhwyt good luck, apparently she is going with Malgant to the fair.

Smitten by the harpy Fledglings, Whysper elects to go with Vauhwyt to setup a home for the Harpies.
(ooc: Rob, sorry to see you leave the blackbird group, but the Wold needs good ADM. Enjoy the 1st level again, PCs are so cute at that age, monsters just want to eat the up!)

Valanthe watches the stars with Malgant.

Ellen sleeps deeply for about half the night then awakens and is untile to sleep for the rest. The two kids seem to have dreams of falling or being chased through the night, but don't ever really wake up.

In the morning Ellen is eager to leave, as she glaces across the river, "The fair was only about a day's travel from here, We almost made it before...."

Ugh! I used my only cow yesterday. And the babes need food. I better blip to Plat City before traveling overland, get some supplies, and then come back, hopefully in an hour or so. That also lets me sell and divvy the loot before Mal's group leaves. Then we can set off through the Forest. More later.

That AC sn't right, and I am sans mouse right now. After using one for years this is all QUITE frustrating.
IC
Malgant listens to Vauhwyt, he doesn't like what he hears. Splitting the party was never good. He also didn't like something else he was hearing from her. Probably because he was ordered and followed the law and Vauhwyt was more free spirited. When she finished he outlined his plans.

" I will continue to the fair and see what the refugee situation is there. I know you already know my feelings on splitting the group so I won't belabor that point. I realize why you need to go do this and I respect that you are honoring YOUR vow, but none of the rest of us made the same pledge. If some of the others want to go help you, that's fine, but it violates the pledge that they made to help the refugees. I take that very seriously. I would like very much to help with the construction of a place we all could call a safe haven, but I can't leave the refugees and the people that have already agreed to help us dangling at the mercy of the priests of Ga'al while we do it. If I end up being the hardcase that has to say it, I will. Their nature is evil. they should have been killed while true to their nature. Even if you are able to change them, they will be like a wild animal trained into being a pet. It isn't fair to those around the animal because they don't know what to expect and it isn't fair to the animal because it doesn't know whether to follow it instincts or to follow the artificial guidelines it has been taught to live by."

"You questioned the Harpy at length, did it say where it had come from, or where they all managed to aquire such fine armor and weapons? They were obviously scavengers, and filthy at that, but their gear was new and uniform, almost like it was made for an army."

When dawn breaks Malgant tries to strech the fatigue out of his muscles. He watched all night, waking the others for a few hours each so that if something happened to him the other person could warn the camp. Now it was time to pay the toll for such abuse of his body, Imod's temple. Away from the camp he prays to Imod to remove the weariness from his body so that he might protect Ellen and her children until they reach this fair.( cast lesser restoration) The Minotaur then turns his thoughts to what was likely to happen for today, and focuses himself through his weapons drill to pray for the power to keep his small part of the Wold safe for another day.

OOC
I can't copy paste right now, I will prepare my spells when I get my darn mouse working. I will be starting down one 2nd level spell because of the lesser restoration used to remove my fatigue this morning from yesterdays prayers.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Tuesday July 27th, 2010 8:06:40 PM

Walter said, I've lost track of how long I've been in the wold but its been a while.

That comment, and Rob's nice words, inspired me to do some digging.

Looking back to 2002 (the date of the earliest Wold Address List I have kept), only seven Woldians were playing then who are playing now. Four of those seven are in this game. The players in this game and their date of joining the Wold are:

Chris Roberts -- Sep-00
Cayzle (Michael Moran Alterio) -- Oct-00
Nellie Knotts -- Jan-01
Walter Witcraft -- Apr-01
Kathy Ice -- Jul-03
David Feest -- Jan-07
John Calhoun -- Dec-07

BTW, the other current Woldians who date back to 2002 are Kent Lewis, Scott Hansen, George Nemeth. And of course, Jerry.

Not too shabby, hey!

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Tuesday July 27th, 2010 11:40:07 PM

Vauhwyt's morning.

Wake up, refreshed and ready to cast spells. Ask everyone to wait for a couple hours, max.

Then teleport to Plateau City, go shopping in the catacombs.

Then shop in nearby for some mundane items, like barrels of fish, cheese, dried fruit, bread, and milk and lots of 1x1x24 logs. A number of these she will shrink down for transport, like 8.

Stop at the WLA and the Temple of Flower to hire some helpers.

Teleport back to the river.

Then split the loot and say farewell.

Lead her group (so far, just Whysper, Vauhwyt, and harpies) to the lake.

That should do for now. More details in morning e-mail, I hope.

Vorelle
Wednesday July 28th, 2010 12:58:44 AM

Vorelle hugs Vauhwyt goodbye in the morning. "Be careful," she says. "And get back to us soon."

When the little family is ready, she sets off with them, and the rest of her party, toward the fair.

[OOC I'm a little fuzzy on the geography]

If their path will take them near the inn, Vorelle tells the children about Champ, what a good dog he is, and how much she has missed him. She tells them they can play with him if they promise to be nice.

Regardless of whether they are going near the inn, Vorelle (also) tells the kids a few things about the wilderness, showing them any tracks she can find, and letting them guess what kind of animal made them.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Wednesday July 28th, 2010 6:59:21 AM

OOC Loot: Sorry, I found an error in the Catacombs dealio. They short-changed us. So I'm still getting the math right. It should be in the 8,000 to 9,000 gp each range?? Rough guess. I'll have better numbers as soon as possible.

OOC Geography: The Tears of the Wood Inn is on the South Peaseblossum River, on the eastern edge of the Blackbird Forest. The river floes from north to south. The bodies of the harpy victims arrived at the Inn from upstream. Therefore, the river we camped next to is the same South Peaseblossum, and I do not think we were more than, what? 5 to 20 miles upstream? I forget. It should not take more than a day? two? to walk back to the Inn. But what this Fair is that the woman is talking about I don't know. The great Horsefair is held at the Inn, in which case, why was she walking north away from it? The only other two places that resemble civilization in the area is the Aisildur outpost of Abus (but that's through the Forest, and no way could these folks have made it through the Forest, much less with horses and wagons) or a Fort of the Mailed Fist that's somewhere around here. So I dunno!

IC: Vauhwyt hugs Vorelle, says it will only be for a week or so, and tell Mal to keep in touch with his spell. And if you are travelling on the Forest side of the river, make sure you keep singing.

*** Mother (Ellen) and Kids (Jack and Jill) *****

Aztyr heats some water as she renews her magic.

During the night Malgant voiced his opinion against splitting the party, lecturing Vauhwyt on responsibility. In the morning the Taur renews his tired body with magic.

Vorelle prepares to set off with Mal to escort the small family to the fair. After a little discussion, it's determine the fair is at a little know town of Adurath to the north, on the border of the culvert woods and Izen, it is indeed about a day's walk from your current potion.

Hearing the sounds of the Fledglings, Ellen is impatient about waiting an hour, but has little choice.

**** Harpy Fledglings (Faith, Hope, Grace, Bliss, Joy) *****

Vauhwyt decides to go shopping early, teleporting away the liontaur says she'll be back in an hour or so. Babysitter?

Appolo helps feed the starving Harpies with parts of the dead horses. At first the harpies start to follow Appolo across the river since Vauhywyt is away, but Whysper sings to them causing them to stay with her.

While Vauhywyt and Appolo are gone the hungry fledglings start hunting about for food. They actualy do fairly well Faith catches three good size fish, Hope manages one small one. Hope, Bliss and Joy spot a deer, instinctively they start singing an enchanting tune causing the deer to walk right up to them. Unless interrupted by Whysper or Ashira the two harpies quickly bring the deer down and begin feasting upon it.

Vauhywyt does her shopping, and returns in a little over an hour. About the time Applo gets back with the aged horse meat and news that he's going to help Vauhywyt settle the chicks.

(ooc: Cayzle's list of players' joining dates make me feel like a youngster in the group - Dec-05)

Wednesday July 28th, 2010 5:13:25 PM

Aztyr is ready to head off to the fair, when Vauhwyt returns. The hour wait seems to stretch on for more than three hours instead of the one it actually was. While she's waiting she collected a couple feathers from one of the dead harpies. She goes to the rivers edge and washes them clean. She then takes out a piece of leather lacing and starts working the feathers into the lacing. She then looks up as if she had just thought of something that should be done.

She heads over to Vorelle, "Vorelle, how would you like me to go get Champ for you? I should have though of it earlier, but I'm still learning to use my spells more effectivly and what they let me accomplish."

Aztyr plans on teleporting back to the inn, gathering up (buying) a few days worth of food, then teleporting back to the camp. While there she can bring Champ back with her.

OOC: Sorry! I meant to say that Mookie was babysitting. That's my standard procedure until I make other arrangements. He would keep them in line, with tumbling to distract/entertain them, or intimidation if need be.

Vauhwyt goes and comes back. She divvies up the loot. (OOC Sorry still waiting for finalization from the CC.) She tries milk, cheese, bread, and a range of fruits and veggies on the babies.

She heads into Blackbird Forest, with the fledglings, Mookie, Appolo, and Whysper. She holds dangling chimes in her hands and keeps them shaking and jangling melodically. She also sings and keeps the babes singing. She explains to Whysper, "The forest is sleepy and angry, but it likes black-feathered creatures, and won't harm them or their friends."

Mookie adds, with a happy caw, "That's right! Best place in the Wold! They love me here!"

Vauhwyt ignores him. "And if you keep the Forest awake with music, that is much better. When Blackbird Forest sleeps, it sends people to other places and times, or maybe brings strange things herre. Vorelle and I once fought a huge squid dangling from a tree in this forest once. So tread lightly and keep alert!"

"By the way, Appolo, Whysper, thanks for coming. You guys are going to be a huge help."

Malgant waits for Vauhwyt and tries to make a pull cart from the remains of the wagon with mending spells and rope. (Its like a wagon of many things! Its a shelter, no it's a raft, no its a 2 wheeled pull cart...)
Once Vauhwyt returns he hoists the cart, the kids and any possessions they want to take with them and heads up the road. This gives him the advantage of being near the kids without herding them to stand next to the big armored Minotaur, which they might find disquieting. If combat erupts he will do a most uncommon thing for Malgant and stay back to guard the civilians, letting the others field the fight unless it is obviously beyond their ability without another tank.

Ok?
After packing it all away in her haversack, she calls to champ and asks him, "Want ta go see Vorelle buddy? Come'ere Champ, and we'll go see her."

Aztyr holds Champ around his neck and concentraits again, vanishing from the Inn with Champ in tow, reappearing about a foot from where she initially vanished from. *** Mother (Ellen) and Kids (Jack and Jill) *****

While waiting for Vauhwyt's return, Aztyr offers to teleport back to the Inn and collect Champ for Vorelle. Vorelle agrees. Ellen hearing that Aztyr is telporting to the Inn, "Is that where my husband and other children are buried? Would it be possible for me and kids to go, just to say goodbye to them?"

Vorelle overjoyed when reunited with Champ, after Aztyr returns with fresh food.

Waiting for Vauhwyt, Malgant see what he can make out of the ruin wagon using mending spells and rope. It may not be pretty, but he can put together a two wheel cart. A few test with him pulling the cart like a ricksha, show it can be pulled at about 2 miles per hour.

After Vauhwyt returns and the group exchange parting words, Malgant heads out with Mom and kids. Valanthe takes the lead, hopping the trip will be free of further events. Vorelle and Champ trying to keep the kids entertained.

Finally leaving the wagon, harpy's and bloody battle field behind, Ellen's and the kids mood seems to improve with each mile the small group travels. Withing three hours, you pass the Acaleus Outpost a the border of blackbird forest, Culvert woods and Izen. This is also where you leave the river and follow a border road north between Izen and Culvert woods. It's close to noon, a guard at the outpost ask "What news is there from the south, it's been nearly a week since anyone's come that way." he can also confirm you have about a half day's travel to Adurath and the fair.

**** Harpy Fledglings (Faith, Hope, Grace, Bliss, Joy) *****

Having returned from shopping, Vauhwyt divvies up the loot. Trying different food on the Fledglings, the Liontaur finds they have a strong preference for fresh raw meat.

Before long Vauhwyt, Mookie, Appolo, Whysper, and the five Harpy chick head into the blackbird forest looking to reach the other side. The forest feels quite welcoming, with the black feathers friends you have in the group.

During the trip Appolo does what he can to continue teaching the Harpie Fledgelings what to hunt, skills for stalking and more pirate songs. The chicks soon echo the tune "Yo ho ho, it's a pirate's life for me...." even if they don't fully understand the words.

The harpy kids seem to enjoy flying through the forest, feeling quite at home. They play hid and seek. Sing pirate songs and eat what seems like 3 or 4 times a normal human portion of food. You don't make as much progresses as you hope by noon. You estimate, it will take two full days to reach the lake shore given that there is no solid trail. Joy has taken to chasing squirrels, she may have eaten one or two when you weren't looking.

Malgant pulls the cart. Their pace is a bit slower, but Ellen and the kids will at least be able to have most of the possessions not ruined in the Harpy attack to start their new life. At the watchtower Malgant calls back up to the guard." Behind us lay eight dead Harpies. Likely they are what has slowed your road traffic. It should return to normal, perhaps even more than normal with the way the politics are going around here. What news of Izen? "

Vauhwyt's division of the loot:

Appolo, Ashira, Aztyr, Val, Vauhwyt, Whysper: 1 potion CSW, 1 potion CCW, 11,560 gp each
Mal: 1 potion CSW, Assorted leftover other Jerry potions, 11,560 gp
Vorelle: Magic Quiver, 20 +1 merciful arrows, 6,440 gp

Among the gold is a 4,000 gp diamond -- whoever claims it first gets it.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Thursday July 29th, 2010 6:34:53 PM

Vauhwyt realizes that the trip will take longer than she planned. No prob. She realizes too that the fledglings like raw meat. Well, if it is raw meat they eat, they can at least be civilized. She insists that the group stop often for actual sit down meals. She uses prestigitation to cut all meat into small pieces. Plates and spoons too. She'll make some with a Stone Shape spell and stone crafting if needed. No gobbling, eating slowly, and keeping neat.

"We are not animals," she tells the girls. "We are civilized creatures."

She is worried about the forest at night. She suggests two long watches, with two people on guard at any time. It is very important to keep singing and making music. "We can't let the forest sleep around us," she says. She sleeps in her armor.

Standard Procedures: Cast Detect Scrying, Greater Magic Weapon, and False Life every day. The latter two only last 12 hours, though.

Aztyr AC 21 (AC 12/20 w Mage Armor+Shield - HP 120/120) & Jynx (AC 20 - HP 60/60)
Thursday July 29th, 2010 7:01:03 PM

Aztyr takes the family with her, letting the mourn while she collects the food and lets them know she'll probably be back for more food.

As Vauhwyt shares out the treasure, Aztyr speaks up for the gem, planning on cashing it in and getting a bigger one at a later time.

While they are moving on up the road, Aztyr stays quiet, letting Malgant speak at the guard post. It's better to be underestimated.

Champ loves playing with the kids.

For her part, Vorelle is glad to be back out in a forest, even one as magically dangerous as this one. She is alert to sights, sounds and smells all around her. She shows the kids the tracks of various animals, and which plants are best to stay away from.
