He then casts an invisibility of his own, vanishing from view.

Torgon gets ready to enter the cave.

Xenia flies about, checking the smaller tunnels entering on the north side of the cave. She sees and hears nothing back in the dark, dim distance.

Durgan heads partway down the tunnel. Kazak is concerned that this may be a trap but keeps pace with his brother. As the dwarfs advance, they do not notice anything unusual about the stone of the tunnel. And Rash keeps pace, as well.

Peerimus changes form again before advancing upon the Chaos Beast.

Firn'gaer lands outside the cave and casts a spell to become invisible.

The Chaos Beast advances and attacks Peerimus again. Both claws hit but don't manage to injure the druid while he is in the form of an iron golem.

"Looks all clear," reports the rogue. She makes for the remaining tunnels. "Punch her down, Peerimus." Xenia whispers encouragement as she passes from one tunnel to the next.

With the twisty-bendy nature of the tunnels, this would depend more on hearing than sight. Xenia listens with keen elfish ears as she enters each of the tunnels. If anything moves deeper within, surely she would detect its approach.

Xenia scouts more tunnels and finds more of the same. Dark, echoing and empty.

Torgon stands guard outside the cave, waiting for more of the spawn. Nothing comes, though.

Durgan moves into chamber, behind Peerimus, and waits to see if his assistance is required.

Peerimus smashes one fist into the Chaos Beast but his other strike goes wide.

Kazak moves into the chamber, as well.

OOC- calm down please. For those who do not know, I will break the announcement:

JohnP will be leaving this game, I believe he will be running it until Sept1. And as you know, he has had some rl issues, so let's cut him a little break. SteveK will be coming back to my knowledge, with a new ADM. I don't remember if Jerry filled the ADM yet or not. We are in the middle of some DM shuffling, and some of the players involved in this game are part of those DMs, so extra work is being put in right now. Steve is still on military leave, and though I believe he has moderately reliable access to internet, it is probably not enough for him to take over the game yet until he gets back from his duties. As for myself, my posting is a little erratic as I have had some recent medical trouble, and trying to keep my feet up more while my leg heals means less comp time.

So hang in there, John will do the best he can, and Steve will be able to jump right in when he can, as he wrote the module we are currently in. I hope that helps.

Fight in the Cave - Round 10 (DM JohnP)

Torgon keeps watch on the outside from his position at the entrance of the cave. The minotaur does not notice anything through the smoke and flames that are still consuming the waxy substance that coats the walls and floor of the chasm.

Xenia flies outside the reach of the Chaos Beast while she continues to explore the smaller caves leading from this chamber. Still nothing, although the last cave seems more still than the others, without the echoing quality that the first ones had.

Rash pushes by Torgon to enter the cave and witness Peerimus' defeat of this creature. Firn'gaer also joins the crowd watching the spic battle between Peerimus and the Chaos Beast. Durgan and Kazak are also there, wishing that they had some refreshments.

Peerimus continues to bash on the Chaos Beast. The twin impacts of the iron golem's mighty fists nearly put an end to the Beast. But it is still standing, though, and eager to defend what must be its home. However, the Beast is unable to overcome the natural armor and resistance of the iron golem.

I do apologize for the posting problems and the delay in getting a new DM in place here at Children of Chaos. JohnP had the Real World smack him across the face pretty hard, and I'm not set to begin normal posting. While I currently have access to the Wold, I don't have access to docs.google or any website that has the DMG and PHB available. Further, I'm going to be incommunicado from 5 - 16 August. Really hard to take over posting when I won't have a computer at all for those 2 weeks. :-)

I love the CoC and the current plan is that I won't move as primary DM of CoC until retirement. That should give us some nice continuity.

Thanks BZ and JohnP for continuing to volunteer even when not having the time to do so!

The druid slams the chaos beat another pair of times. It would be over soon. There was no remorse for destroying the thing, no hard feelings that it did not have a chance to win this fight. The power of the iron golem being simply too much for the creature. The fight was completely one sided, but the druid felt the pull ever so slightly every time the Chaos beast touched him. Were any of the others here, this could have been, would have been far more dangerous.

Peerimus smashes the creature twice and it finally slumps, relaxing and spreading across the floor of the of the cavern. The druid suddenly feels a surge of ... power (?) ... coursing through his body.

Everyone else has a moment to enjoy the end of the fight between Peerimus and the clearly overmatched Chaos Beast. A moment to reflect and wonder exactly what the Court of Law had set them to do. A moment before Xenia and Torgon interrupt their reverie.

The half-elf rogue had gone to investigate one of the narrow tunnels and she finds it blocked a short way in by more of the waxy substance that coated the walls and floor of the chasm outside. She finds the same in the next tunnel as well.

Outside, Torgon notices a change in the light. Or maybe a sound. Regardless, when the minotaur looks upwards he notices a bulge in the surface of the chasm over the cave entrance. Watching for a moment, Torgon coudl swear that the waxy substance is slowly flowing downwards.

Durgan's celebration is cut short when Torgon's shout echoes down the tunnel from the chasm. The minotaur's alarm makes almost everyone spring into action.

Xenia turns within the small tunnel and flies back towards her companions and the freedom of the outside. She is nearly able to get out, close enough to see where Torgon is trying to hold the roof of the tunnel from collapsing. Rash quickly passes the half-elf rogue and emerges into the open air at the bottom of the chasm.

Kazak is planning for the future when the shout causes him to start sprinting out. Firn'gaer responds quickly, too, creating a arched wall of force that supports the near end of the tunnel.

Peerimus is still standing over the body of the Chaos Beast. The body is collapsing very quickly, abnormally so, but who can tell what rules of nature exist (or not) in this place.

Outside, Torgon has been able to slow but not completely halt the movement of the waxy coating on the walls and ceiling of the tunnel. Worse, the wax has softened and is beginning to flow over his hands.

Rash notices movement on the walls of the chasm. At first it seems like the waxy coating is blistering and pulling away from the walls but it could also be caused by some thing (or things) pushing from behind.

One. Two. Three. And herself. That leaves three still inside. Durgan, Peerimus, and Firn'gaer. Best thing to do is to get yourself out so they don't got no one else to worry 'bout.

The girl rogue flies. In a soft flutter of cloth, arms folded at her side, she jets for the exit and under the goopy stuff flowing down past Torgie's arms.

"I'm out!" she cries, as she clears the tunnel. "Going 'nvisible!" With a word, the dark rogue vanishes. Then she turns her keen green eyes on the surrounding Chasvalley. This can't be all there is to this. Best to spot whatever's coming next a'fore it gets to them.

Yorrick shifts uncomfortably outside on the floor of the chasm. Peerimus had not been gone long, but the smells and sounds of the others that he travels with now give the great bear the feeling of danger. Yorrick gives a long lowing call for his friend and paces back and forth.

Within the cave, Peerimus shifts to the familar form of a Marut. "I will see you outside," he says the mechanical tones of this form's mouth. Then he vanishes, to appear just outside. Yorrick rises to his hind legs. Even in this mechanical form, he recognizes his friend. The bear seems relived and happy.

Rash calls out the powers that be who are watching and says, "This test stinks!" Then via her message spell to the others, We need to regroup outside quickly! I think we will have a bunch of spawn or something even nastier coming our way. Something is pushing on the walls. Either way, I know we are more powerful as a group together then separated!"

Common tactics for spells:
Both magical vestments spells along with Longstrider will be cast using the Karma prayer bead and the lesser extend rod. The greater Magic Weapon spell will be cast with the normal extend rod and Karma bead. This spells will last 42 hours before they need to be recast. Endure elements is also cast at night as well and lasts 24 hours

Contingency: (Cast with Miracle spell) When I cast my divine power spell, righteous might is automatically cast.

The Children of Chaos manage to escape the cave by either flying, running or teleporting out. Just before he teleported, Peerimus watched as the body of the Chaos Beast collapsed into a puddle of slime and ichor, nearly seething with unnaturally rapid decomposition.

Torgon has struggled to hold up the softening wax to allow his companions to escape, possibly at his own expense. The wax has continued to flow downwards until the minotaur now has his arms covered to the elbows in the substance. If he stays much longer, Torgon is certain that the waxy material will cover his upper arms and begin dropping on his head.

Rash has been keeping an eye upon the walls and the alarming bulges of material pulling away from the sides. The spawn may now be working together to try to trap all of them down here at the bottom of the chasm after the destruction of their progenitor.

Xenia spirals up from the floor of the chasm, escaping whatever the spawn of the Chaos Beast are trying to do to entrap or ambush her companions. The attempt to seal them into the cave with the corpse of the Chaos Beast failed due to the magic wielded by the Children of Chaos but now at least one of them may end up trapped within the waxy coating that the spawn have created.

The rogue climbs high enough to see that the chasm walls are bulging in several places but Xenia cannot tell if the spawn are merely trying to get through or to push more of the waxy substance down upon her companions. Rash has climbed and can see all of this, too.

Durgan, enlarged and nearly a match for Torgon in size, reaches up and tries to help the minotaur pull free. Peerimus assists, too, but the minotaur doesn't make any effort for himself.

Perhaps the minotaur is waiting for Kazak, but the dwarf has managed to get away as well.

The minotaur then casts fly, and begins to fly up and out of the chasm. As he starts his ascent, he will look back to make sure that the folks still at the bottom have a way out.

Rash sees Torgon free and breathes a sigh of relief for the big minotaur. She then beams out to all of the others via message spell, I don't think the test is over yet. Are we not supposed to kill the spawn as well? Or was it just the mother?"

Rash will go closer to one of the bulging sides and take a look to see if she can see anything through it. She looks to see how think the waxy substance is?

Clear the way for a retreat. That's all she can do for now. Not while the weerdo beast guys are all hidden under the waxy buildup.

Xenia jets for the portcullis. If it's been closed by the Law Guys, she'll have to get it open. The Blink magic has let her pass through walls in the past. Sometimes it don't work, and at those times it hurts. But it's something she's gotta try.

The Children of Chaos fly upwards, Torgon and Durgan rearmost, while the spawn of the Chaos Beast continue doing whatever they had planned. Eventually everyone catches up to Xenia near the portcullis where they look inside and see that the Bailiff is still waiting.

"You have killed the Beast. Here, take this and finish off the spawn."

The Bailiff holds out a golden necklace strung with golden beads in his fist between the bars of the portcullis.

"Toss them singly, or all at once, the result will be the same."

A frown drops down over Xenia's invisible face. "A test, huh?" She dives down, and with a stab of her hand, she grabs the golden necklace out of the Bailiff Guy's hand.

With the attack comes the departure of her invisibility, but the girl rogue spins neatly out of reach, then turns to confront the minion of Law. "You said this was a Test, huh? What test do you get where they give you so easily the means to pass? Where's the test in that?"

"Tell you what, Bailiff Guy, ... " By this time, the rogue has dropped all pretense of polite and officiafied speech. " ... you read me one law that says that those little Chaos Weerdos out there need to be killed down, and I'll throw your necklace. Bring out your book. Bring out your scroll. Read me that law."

"You're the guys what brung 'em here in the first place, right? You said that. If you're 'biding by your own laws, then you'll have a law for this. Read it to me, and we'll end this now."

Rash sighs and looks at Xenia and says, "Child, I understand and concur with your frustration but we have already been through this. We have already killed the mother and some of her children. We will be forever stained with that sin. We took that sin upon us as a means to an end. We need to get away from this court so we can get on with our duty of stopping the great migration from dropping mountain ranges on innocent folk. While I agree that every life is precious, sometimes you have to look at the greater good. So lets finish what we have started and move on." Rash throws the baliff a dark look, "Besides, I don't doubt that they could produce the law you require. The ink might still be wet on the parchment but I am sure they could produce it."

Rash then squares up and says, "Is that a necklace of fireballs? If we throw it, do we end this farce?"

The Bailiff doesn't flinch as Xenia snatches the strand of beads from his hand, almost as if he expected something of the sort to happen. The angel responds to the rogue's question before any other member of the Children of Chaos can speak.

"You completed the most important part of the Test as decreed by the Court. The Court's order is sufficient for me."

Several of her companions encourage Xenia to simply conclude the Test so that the Children can achieve their greater goal of stopping the Great Migration. They must be persuasive since Xenia aquiesces and tosses the magic item into the chasm. It falls, disappearing into the distance, and everyone almost thinks that nothing will happen. But a string of explosions do occur, followed by an immense rush of heat and a growing column of smoke.

Almost simaultaneously, the Bailiff raises the portcullis and motions the Children of Chaos through.

"One or two always survive, somehow. In time, another Test will happen. For now, accompany me back to the chamber assigned to you. The Court will reconvene after you have had time to rest and recover."

The Bailiff turns and leads the Children back up the tunnel to the chambers, pushing the door open and motioning them inside.

"I will return for you after a period of rest."

Rash looks around at the others and says, "I don't know if I am speaking for all but I will say that I think we are ready to move forward now." She will reach her hand to Kazak curing him a cure critical for 28 points of damage burning a sending spell to do it.

She turns her attention back to the Bailiff continuing, "Are you ready for us?"

It is now that the girl rogue decides to partake in the food stuffs and refreshments laid out by the Court of Law. She pours herself a nice cold cup of grape rink and arranges for herself a small plate of strawberries.

"Well. That's not what I would have expected. Personally ... " Her white and even teeth take a bite from the side of one tart and juicy red berry. " ... I ting I pever yo ... I think I prefer your Power Girls to these Law Guys. Any day."

Peerimus nods at Durgans words. he was quite correct. It was an abomination as far as the druid was concerned. An unatural thing born of twisted magic and now undone, nothing more. In the beginning he had thought differently, but over the course of the short conflict he had come to see the truth in it for himself. It was no more a parent than a fungus of mold might be.

Peerimus follows into the chamber and finds a few things to munch on and fixes a few salmon for Yorrick. As Yorrick sits back to eat, Peerimus places a hand on him, curing the damage the magical fire wrought upon his friend. [Cast CCW 36]

"You know, it's not so much killing down those little Chaos Weerdos that's the shame you know." The benches are hard, and this waiting area is just not a real comfy place to rest for a while. Xenia takes out her bedroll and spreads it out to pad the hard sitting surface. She drags a little serving table over next to the benches to enclose the space and make herself a little nest.

"It's, like, always the same with the law, you know. Like, for the most part, its there to pertect folks and help them get along." Picking plates of fruit, cheese and little sausages from the buffet, she arrays them on her own little table within easy reach. "But the law just can't seem to see the nonsense bits that they got built into things. It's, like, once they're made, they can't fix themselves no more."

"I guess this little test was sorta, like, you know - whatcha call it? - a metaphor for that in a way. You know?"

Durgan laughs at Xenia's thoughts. "Ye should see the dwarfs arguin politics sometime. They can go on for days on end over the most minor point, then fight over the results. More heat there than the worst tavern brawl. Then somethin comes along unexpected that affects the law, and they hafta start all over again. That's why dwarf laws tend to be fairly simple. And also why they tend to bristle at dealing with short-lived human kingdoms. The humans can get pretty complicated with their laws."
