DM Dai - The Arrival
Monday August 23rd, 2010 9:41:34 AM

In a quiet glade, far removed from the turbulent destruction of the Sargrass Plains, a small bead of energy begins to coalesce. Sparks fly from the new white hole as it grows quickly to the size of a mill wheel, turbulently searing and blackening the grass underneath where it grazes the tips of the blades.

The screaming vortex slowly stabilizes into a portal, which quickly spits up our heroes onto the soft, invitingly green grass.

The portal seems to have been anchored in some kind of stone archway. Looking around, there are three other stone arches placed at the cardinal points in a circle about fifty feet across, with a huge ten-foot wide black iron cauldron in the center filled with clear blue water. Judging from the position of the sun rising over the horizon, it is not long past dawn, and the portal is anchored in the western arch. The glade's soft, even grass extends a good fifty feet in each direction from the stones. The area around the glade is sparsely wooded, limiting the distance you can see from here. A short hill rises to the south side of the glade, blocking the view beyond.

Tishe' (AC 21 HP DEAD /75)

ooc: Is Tishe' alive or dead at this point?

Tishe' is dead, being carried by one of her comrades.

Jeff_L (Snafu... formerly Mojo), False Life, Mage Armor, AC 24, HP 95  d10+9=19 ;
Monday August 23rd, 2010 12:33:23 PM

A confused looking elf picked himself off the ground and studied the heroes around him. Who are these people... how did I get here?, he wondered as he measured them up.

He was taller than most elves and not as fair. His face was marked with several scars and his nose looked as if it might have been broken on more than one occasion as it was bent slightly to one side. He wore a fine black cloak and carried a short sword in hand and a small grey spotted owl on his shoulder.

Suddenly the elf reversed the grip on his short sword and drove the blade into the ground. He then gently perched his owl on the hilt of the sword and began brushing himself off.

"Snafu Ravenshoe at your service" he said with a bow. "I'm not sure who you are, or how we got here, but it certainly is a pleasure to be in the company of such splendid people! And with the smell of adventure in the air... ahhh... it has the makings of a wonderful day!"

Monday August 23rd, 2010 12:40:40 PM

As he lands in the glade, Thar rolls to cushion his fall and ends up in a crouch. Instantly alert, he looks around for any obvious dangers but then sees other PC's fall in the immediate vicinity.

Mumbling to himself, he asks, "OK Thar, where have you gotten yourself into now..." He's not sure where he is geographically either, but this obviously isn't Plateau City...

He sees another elf arrive and after checking that there is no near danger, he introduces himself using elven. "I'm Thar Ail Baerer, but most people call me Thar. I assume you've been dropped in here too and do you have any idea where we are?"

He's currently wearing his elven chain mail and a magical vestment, and has his bow and magic symbols ready while looking around.

Since the other PC's aren't a threat, he focuses his attention on the outside area.

Serillana (AC 29 HP 70/70)
Monday August 23rd, 2010 7:39:40 PM

Serillana sakes a few steps and dramatically falls to the ground, sobbing for a few moments. She then realizes that there are other people here that aren't from the 'pack and starts trying to make herself presentable to the new people.

"Well, I'm happy to see you guys as well! I'm Serillana Swiftshot, But Serillana or Seri will do." Serillana says with a big grin, extending her small hand out to the closest person that she doesn't know. This show of diplomacy is somewhat marred from being covered red remnants of a liquid that had dried on her. "I don't know where we are, but cautiousness is always the way to go, isn't it?"

More like "I'm happy to SEE you guys... Beucase I would most likely have died...

Tishe' (AC 21 HP DEAD /75)
Monday August 23rd, 2010 10:21:14 PM

Draped in the arms of her packmates, Tishe's eyes are closed, her wavy brown hair hanging loosely down. Her head is cradled in the shoulder of a friend, keeping it from lolling unnaturally from her snapped neck. The witch.... is dead.

As Falmar tumbles from the portal he quickly rights himself, draws his Scimitar, and scans his surroundings. The Half-human is clad in a suit of Mithril Scale with long reddish hair spilling out the back, he is dirty, bloody, and hasn't shaved in quite some time. Noticing Moxy perched upon the portal frame Falmar scowls at the over-sized crow....
Draconic Highlight to display spoiler: { " Lazy Crow ! Go do something useful ! I need to know where we are...and who else knows where we are. Have a look around!, }
Moxy makes some type of rude cackle and launches into the air and begins to circle further and further away from the Portals.

Falmar then pauses to assess the area around him (detect evil).... finding none he immediately goes to examine Tishe' ...

When he notices that not all of those around him are Night, he takes a closer look.

" My name is Falmar and these are my Pack' we need to help Tishe' if her Soul so wishes.. he pulls apart his Mithril Scale, and moves aside a disc of woven grasses to exposes the Eye of Gargul grown into his chest... The Grey God sent us on a quest that is yet unfinished...he may not wish her to leave yet. Does anyone know where we are ? "

Taldera (AC 25, HP 97/97)
Monday August 23rd, 2010 11:47:50 PM

I'm a 2nd year uni student doing a bachelor of science, majoring in medical microbiology and immunology, majoring in molecular biology. I general post at night or very early morning (or very late night depending on how you see it :p ) but that is Australia time. I think that would be late morning/early afternoon over there. Sometimes I also post at uni, like at the moment. (...I should pay more attention in class. :P )
As for Taldera, as you can probably guess from the class, I'm better at supporting the party with spells and songs then attacking directly, though she's fairly good with her bow, and is durable enough to enter melee, for a limited time.]

As Taldera arrives, the feeling of floating she had fades, and as it does the weight of the one she carries comes back, taking her by surprise. Taldera collapses to the ground, doing her best to lay Tishe' down gently as she does, but still ends up falling rather ungracefully. "S-sorry..." She says, before realising that Tishe' won't respond, or even have felt it. "You died for the portal tokens, to save us...thank you." She wanted to cry, or at least take the time to process what had happened, sing a dirge for the departed, but she notices that there are others here, strangers. She stands up slowly, trying to tidy her appearance from the battle at Oddholme, to little affect. "H-hello," she starts, smiling weakly and gaining a little more composure as she notices Serillana. "She made it here, what a relieve." "I'm Taldera. As you can see, we had some major problems where we were before. I suppose you are as clueless to where we are as I am, so, how about where you came from?"

Tuesday August 24th, 2010 9:41:05 AM

Dumped on the ground Yanosh stands and goes to the body of Tishe' and lifts her into his arms. The silent Dwarf is dressed in a grey clerics robe. a deep hood coveres his entire head and shades his face. the most that is seen is the tail of his grey goatee and mustache hanging down over his chest. Around his waist is a crimson sash that makes it look as if he is cut in half. The Dwarf is obviously armored and a shield lays where he stood up. A war axe is over his right shoulder next to his pack. As he holds the body of what is surely a dear friend you can just hear him murmering softly to her.

DM Dai - The Arrival
Tuesday August 24th, 2010 3:36:07 PM

Snafu wonders where he is, but decides to make the best of it and introduce himself.

Thar wonders the same thing, but latching onto the fact that there's at least another elf there, attempts to open a dialogue.

Serillana takes a moment to weep for the ordeal she's been through and the destruction of her home. She pulls herself together and puts on a brave face for the strangers.

Tishe' is dead, for the moment. Her body carried by her friends, her spirit wandering the Realm of Shadow.

Falmar sends Moxy to scout around, then explains Tishe's predicament to the others.

Taldera takes a moment to untangle herself from Tishe's body, quietly apologizing at the undignity of their arrival before turning her attention to the others.

Yanosh goes to Tishe's body and silently grieves.

As the others are sorting themselves out and attempting to ascertain their whereabouts, they take in details of the glade. The stone archways are crude, giant rectangular granite slabs laid out in threes: two pillars and a cross-beam. The stones are devoid of writings and there seems to be nothing special about the stones themselves.

Thar sees someone coming quickly but it seems that the others have noticed her too. The woman doesn't seem to be trying to conceal her approach so she may not be a threat.

He notes the dwarf picking up the female corpse and is touched by his devotion to her. "She must have been someone important to you," he says in a soft, friendly manner.

Since he's still surrounded by strangers, he doesn't let his guard down, but does focus his attention on the oncoming woman.

Laying the body of Tishe' back down Yanosh rises to his full hight of just under 5'. Softly speaking a blessing to Gargul to care for her he stops short of asking for her return to the Wold. That he can not do and will not ask for. Looking at Thar he speaks in a suprisingly soft voice for a dwarf, "She is Tishe' of the BloodPack. A dear and Blessed friend of mine. I am Yanosh Ironfist Cleric of Gargul also of the BloodPack but is seems now maynot be the time for introductions." He looks to see what has caught the attention of the party. Swiftly as he can he moves to retrieve his shield from the gorund where he left it.

Taldera turns to look were they are, and at a quick glance sees nothing, but then notices the woman that is approaching. Taldera looks a little worried, but also curious, and in any other situation should would probably only be curious, maybe even excited, at another traveller she did not know.

DM Dai - The Arrival
Wednesday August 25th, 2010 7:53:56 PM

Tishe's spirit flows along the rivers of Woldsblood slowly but inexhorably toward the Lands of Rest.

Snafu remarks on the beauty of the woman as he points her out to the rest of the party.

Serillana resents that Snafu reacts to the other woman's beauty but not to hers.

Falmar takes a protective position between the others and the hill, waiting to react.

Thar notes the wolf-woman, but turns his attention to Yanosh and Tishe'.

Yanosh puts aside his grieving in favor of being prepared to protect the party should their visitor turn out to be hostile.

Taldera doesn't notice their visitor till the others point her out.

The woman's wolf lets out a bark, and she strokes his head. A moment later, the wolf bounds down the hillside toward the others, coming to a stop about ten feet away from Yanosh.

The woman hops daintily down from the big wolf's back with an air of great practice. She is barefoot, and a small silver sickle hangs at her waist. She quickly surveys the party, then opens her mouth to speak. "What happened here? I was praying in my grove on the other side of the hill when I heard a great commotion and felt a great swell of power. Wilhemina will not like it, or the damage to the Stones! Look at those scorch marks! What happened? Who are you, and are you OK?" Her gaze stopped on Tishe' on its way around the party. "She doesn't look OK. Does she need healing? How long has she been like this?" The wild woman didn't seem to take breaths between thoughts, but rambled as though all of her questions and comments were a single complete sentence.

"On the contrary lovely Serillana", responded to the lady halfling. "I'm just delighted to have another beautiful lady in my presence. Truly it is a blessed day!"

Snafu waited a moment before turning his attention to the wild woman.

"Snafu Ravenshoe at your service" he said with a bow. "It seems our appearance is as much a mystery to us as it is to you. One moment we were somewhere else... the next we were chewing dirt here."

"Anyhow, I think we are okay, all except for..."
Mojo's voiced trailed off as he sympathetically gestured towards the fallen Tishe.

Most of us were fleeing from a great evil that came across us, and Tishe'..." Serillana motions to the body Falmar is holding "was an unfortunate casualty, sacrificing her life to keep everyone safe...

Serillana stops there, trying to hold the tears that want to come out. Suddenly, Serillana tries to hide behind Taldera, so that the newcomer doesn't see her tears if they suddenly come out. "I've shed enough tears for today... Gather yourself Seri"

At the mention of Tishe' Yanosh glares warningly at the newcomer. Clearly present on the front of his robes hang the symbol of his faith. The unblinking eye of Gargul the Grey One, The God of Death and Life.
"It is true that Tishe' has been but just moments before sent to meet the Master. Death is but the completion of life. Gargul commands that all things end in their time." his voice rolls out from inside of his deep hood. Barely seen the celrics eyes gleam from within the dark confines.

Thursday August 26th, 2010 9:48:19 AM

Seeing that Tishe is dead and he has no magic to bring her back, he shakes his head sadly at the state of affairs. The new woman's arrival catches his attending and after listening to the woman's rambling, he has to bites back a barbed comment about human females.

Responding to her questions, he merely says, "I'm Thar ail Baerer and I don't know any of these people with me. How I ended up here is another matter and one that I cannot answer. To start with, where am I and who are you?

His attitude towards animals is much more positive and he kneels down and offers it some of his dried meat, trying to be friendly. If needed, he'll use his ranger skills to try to improve it's response to his friendly offer of food.

"I don't think any of us knows what exactly happened here, thought meeting another friendly face is certainly a blessing. I am Taldera, a wandering bard. With the exception of Snafu and Thar, as a group we barely escaped a catastrophic event that effected the Sargrass Plains using a portal. Well, most of us escaped..." Taldera trails off, looking at Tishe''s body. "If you can help her, please do so, I implore you. It is, not her time." She finishes, staring at Yanosh. "I don't care what some god says, her death was too sudden, she was too young."

She turns back to the stranger. "The rest of us probably need to clean up and rest, but otherwise we're okay. Oh! Sorry! How rude, asking favours of you without knowing your name, you are?"

DM Dai - The Arrival
Thursday August 26th, 2010 9:52:40 PM

Snafu answers the wild woman's questions, revealing that the group knows very little about their current predicament.

Falmar expresses his gratitude for any possible help she can provide.

Serillana apologizes for any damage to the site, and gives a brief explanation of how they ended up here.

Yanosh expresses his faith in Gargul and his belief that it must be Tishe's time, if she is dead.

Thar seems very confused.

Taldera gives a bit more background on those fleeing the Sargrass and expresses the opinion that it wasn't Tishe's time yet, and implores the woman's help.

Tishe's soul keeps moving through the Realm of Shadow. She may even sense that people are talking about her.

The woman responds to the group. "Forgive my lack of proper manners. I am Kayleigh, sometimes known as the Woodwitch of the Green Coven. You are near the town of Witchspawn in the Cinnamon Valley. As your friend is only recently departed, her soul will not yet be with Gargul in the Lands of Rest. I can probably retrieve it from the Realm of Shadow, but we must hurry."

She moved closer to Tishe's body, examining the woman. Noting her crooked nose and warty complexion, Kayleigh wonders if she's a witch, but doesn't say so out loud. "I'm fairly confident I can return her to life, if you help me get her body into the cauldron over there."

Turning to Yanosh, she says, "Her soul does not belong to your god, yet. If there is good she can do on this Wold still, then we can bring her back to live out her life. Gargul can wait. He's not getting any older."

Well... this just seems odd... I cannot help but feel that we're preparing Tishe' for some feast...at least there aren't any carrots or onions in there. ! which reminds me..when did I eat last...

"And for the record, if I'm ever in a similar situation as Tishe, I want you all to know that I'd like to be brought back. If it is truely my time, then the spell to bring me back would fail."

Then looking over at Yanosh the elf added- "Those are my wishes... I would hope they would be respected."

It becomes obvious to Thar that many of these new arrivals know each other, and he steps back and doesn't interfere with their actions. This Tishe person is obviously important to them and he's touched by their dedication.

Tishe' floats, but has the oddest sensation that there are people talking about her. This thought brings others, flashes of memory that have not yet been wiped clean from a resting soul, a soul that still has things to do! A concerned and scarred dwarf, an elf, a halfling... and others. And the sense that there are others who need her skills, her abilities.

She struggles against the enexorable flow, reaching out to the voices. No, I'm not ready yet. There are people still to help! Help!

Yanosh follows to the cauldron he moves not to interupt the rite. None know that it is his wish deep down that Tishe be brought back. He cares more for Tishe' then he lets everyone know. Only his faith in Gargul keeps him from joining the rest in asking for her return.
He strides next to Snafu and quietly responds to him without looking up. His voice drifts softly from inside his hood, "Do not think poorly of me for I can not wish Tishe' back Gargul forbids me. My heart breaks knowing that that is the one thing kept from me. If you fall in battle ,and pray you dont, know that I can only try to heal you and save you that way. I am forbidden to raise even a commrad. Tishe' understands this and will forgive me when she returns to us. Or curse me as a witch may do. It is her choice. What Gargul gives, Gargul takes."

Taldera steps back to give Keyleigh and Falmar room to do what must be done, and takes a moment to reflect on where they are, seeing if she can remember anything about the area. (OOC: Bardic Knowledge check 32 for information on Witchspawn.)

Falmar moves Tishe's body into the cauldron at Kayleigh's request.

Snafu expresses the wish that if she were in Tishe's position, she'd want the same done for her.

Thar doesn't want to interfere with proceedings.

Tishe's soul calls out for her friends, unready to let her life go.

Yanosh wishes he could bring Tishe' back, but the most he can allow himself to do is stand still and not interfere.

Serillana watches hopefully.

Taldera steps back and wracks her brain for what she's heard about this place.

The group watches as Kayleigh begins to summon her will. "This may take some time." she says. "Ironfang, be a dear and keep watch for me." Her great grey wolf barks in response, sitting patiently. "Stillfeather!" she called out. A tiny brown owl with the heart-shaped face shared by all barn owls, silently swooped down to perch on the edge of the great cauldron. "Stillfeather, I will need your eyes in the Realm of Shadow, to help me find her soul."

Kayleigh then begins the long process of casting her spell. After a short time she frowns, then begins again. Going further this time, she seems to finish, but immediately casts another spell, and she and her owl fade from view as they sink into the Shadow Realm. The cauldron bubbles and boils furiously, not seeming hot, but constantly stirred by the magical forces flowing into it.

In the Realm of Shadow, Kayleigh begins her search for Tishe's soul. She and Stillfeather split up, and begin to search, following the sense given to them by Kayleigh's reincarnation spell. After searching for nearly an hour, they find her swimming against the tide of a river of Woldsblood pushing her toward the Lands of Rest. Kayleigh draws a tiny cauldron from her belt pouch, and uses it to deftly catch Tishe's soul.

To those waiting on Kayleigh and Tishe' by the cauldron, there seems to be nothing happening. A deathly hush fell over the glade, disturbed only by the bubbling of the pure water in the cauldron to mark the passing of time. It appeared to the others there that the whole Wold was holding its breath waiting to see what would happen.

"I've found you!" Kayleigh says, excitedly. "Now comes the difficult part." she explains to Tishe'. "Your soul can't go back with me the normal way. We need to cut a hole in the Wold, so that I can carry your soul back physically."

Saying this, Kayleigh carried Tishe's soul back to the the place where she entered the Realm of Shadow. Kayleigh drew the silver sickle at her side. Knowing this was the most difficult task she would face, she centered herself and cast Bull's Strength on herself. She pushed forward on the sickle with all her might, and a tiny hole appeared in midair. The fabric of the Wold was rent slightly, and as she pulled down, she could see the cauldron come into view through the forming rift.

It's the nature of the veil between the Realm of Shadow and the Material Plane to resist being cut this way; it heals up very quickly, to the point where it was resisting her efforts to cut. Finally, she was able to make a hole big enough to step through, dropping the soul from the tiny cauldron into the great one, where Tishe's body rested, cradled by the now violently churning water.

The water rose up in a column, the body that was its cargo rose with it, floating on top of the geyser. The whole thing glowed with an intense light from Tishe's soul, which floated up through the column of water toward her body. Kayleigh concentrated on maintaining the spell, which was rapidly attempting to fray as the forces became too powerful to control. Finally, the soul and body combined in a great crash of white light which slowly faded. Kayleigh sunk to her knees but kept her eyes turned on the body which was now falling back into the cauldron as the geyser's flow was cut off. She stepped forward and cradled Tishe's head as she fell, preventing her from falling under the water, or hitting her head on the side of the cauldron.

"Hello?" Kayleigh's soft voice washed over them, breaking the silence. "You've been through quite an ordeal? How do you feel?" Though Tishe's wounds were healed, and her body remade like new, Kayleigh had never actually resurrected anybody before, and she wasn't quite sure if there would be side effects. Looking at her now, she could see that there had been some.. her brown hair had an auburn hue now, her formerly crooked nose was straight, her formerly warty complexion now clear and fresh as any girl in the blush of her youth. The enchantments she carried before were gone as well. She would have to start over with those. But she was still herself, still human, and whole. And alive, Kayleigh thought to herself as she noted that the woman in the cauldron was beginning to breathe and her eyes were fluttering open. "Welcome back!" Kayleigh said, exhilarated at having brought her back, and exhausted with the effort of doing so.

Taldera OnlyHighlight to display spoiler: {The town of Witchspawn is the center of a large farming community in the west end of Cinnamon Valley. Cinnamon Valley is famous for being probably the richest farmland in the Wold. Until recently it was ruled by a Jarl, Royd the Merciless, but he was defeated by a collaboration between the Gold and Storm Dragons. This is one of the famous stories of their exploits.

Witchspawn is ruled by the Green Coven, a group of witches led by Wilhemina MacBride, an old witch who led the Green Coven before the Jarl nearly wiped them out. She's on the Pitchfork Council, the ruling body of the valley.

Serillana (AC 29 HP 70/70)
Monday August 30th, 2010 8:57:28 AM

"Tishe'?" Serillana peeks around Taldera, waiting and watching carefully to see what emerges from the cauldron after Kayleigh does her work.

"Darn me for being so short. I wish I were able to see from a higher perspective sometimes. But I guess it means that can see everyone closer to the ground better."

Thar ail Baerer (Ken M) https://docs.google.com/View?docID=dchth6pt_06zh5c7g3&revision=_latest
Monday August 30th, 2010 10:05:17 AM

Thar watches the proceedings with some amount of interest and is pleased to see the woman come back to them. She was obviously loved by the others and their smiles at her return brings a grin on Thar's face.

He remains silent and waits to introduce himself to Tishe' until she's standing and walking around.

Yanosh AC 23 HP 105/105 Endure Elements
Monday August 30th, 2010 11:00:07 AM

Silently yanosh kneels and says a prayer. To the others it may appear that he is giving a prayer of thatnksgiving, but in truth he is praying and asking for the forgiveness of the one that brought Tishe' back and for his secret longing that she return.

Rising he reaches up and slowly slides his hood from his scarred head. as his bald head comes into view the scars also become visable. His head is covered in what were once severe burns.the left side of his face is also scarred from burns. His mustache and goatee are as grey as the robe he wears. His eyes are grey also. He makes his way to Tishe' so he can stand at her side as she opens her eyes. He is aware that his ugly countance will be one of the first that she sees but she is well aquainted with his face and will not shy away.

As Tishe' opens her eyes he smiles at her. The with a stern look he speaks, "If you ever die on me again girl I will personally follow you into the shadow lands and make the rest of your after life misrable," with that he smirks just enough to show his joke. "Welcome back Tishe'," he says and offers her his hand to help her from the cauldron.

Snafu- AC 24, HP 95/95, False Life, Mage Armor,
Monday August 30th, 2010 11:38:12 AM

"Hallelujah!" Snafu called out when Tishe's eyes opened. He then unslung his backpack, reached in and pulled out a flask.

"To life!" he toasted as he took a small slug. Snafu was ready to celebrate, but he got the feeling that more pressing business would take precedent.

Tishe' (AC 19 HP 51/51)
Monday August 30th, 2010 6:01:07 PM

Tishe' blinks and takes a breath, the first one in ... a lifetime!

Her eyes quickly adjust to her surroundings, and the slightly plump woman realizes she is laying inside a pool of water in a cauldron. And about her are the happy and concerned faces of friends and strangers. Tishe' smiles and raises a shakey hand to rest gently on Yanosh's scarred face.

"Many Shadows, packmates", she greets them all, but then she frowns while looking at her hand. A hint of sadness comes over her as she looks at the dwarven priest. "The Mark of Gargul is gone from my hand."

The woman gladly accepts help in getting out of the cauldron, and does a full inventory of her body. Her hair is more curly, more red. Her skin is smooth, her nose unbroken; the witch spells keyed into those features gone. Also gone is her Mark of Gargul on her hand (the souvenier of her first journey to the Gray Lord's Realm), the Mark of Gargul on her chest, and her magical Brahmah's Tattoo; all wiped away as payment of the magic.

"I suppose as a Witch, maintaining the blessings of the Grey Lord was too much to ask." she tells the others in a slightly whimsical voice.

Falmar fidgets and paces around the cauldron while Kayleigh is gone... he looks around as if looking for something to do, some way to make himself useful, and when she appears he silently waits in anticipation.

He watches as Yanosh greets Tishe's return, and approaches...

" That was a nice Pick back at the Dome, but what has happened to you Tishe' ? Your face ! IT looks um.... normal ? no... THAT would be rude....how about....umm...restored ? eh..good eneough Err... Restored. How do you feel ? .

Taldera (AC 25, HP 97/97)
Tuesday August 31st, 2010 4:10:01 AM

"Tishe', thank goodness she's alright." "Though, she looks different then before, younger even? Still, we owe Kayleigh a large debt of thanks for bringing her back." Taldera decides to stay back, letting the pack mates that knew her well greet her.

DM Dai - A joyful reunion
Tuesday August 31st, 2010 4:32:11 AM

All of them breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Tishe' is alright and mostly unscathed from her short brush with death. Yanos prays to ask Gargul's forgiveness for allowing his selfish desire to war with the edicts of his faith.

Kayleigh now hops back up on the great wolf, and quirks an eyebrow at the motley assortment of adventurers and refugees. "So now that the most urgent matter has been attended to... would you mind explaining who you all are and expanding on what you know of how you got here?" The Woodwitch seemed by turns amused and alarmed. "I hope your coming is a good omen rather than a warning one. We have mostly quiet in this end of the valley, though lately it's been getting more difficult to maintain."

Thar listens to Kayleigh's question and says, "As I mentioned before, I'm Thar ail Baerer. I was the healer and scout for an old organization, the Mithril Order, but am on my own now. In relation to how I got here, I have no idea. Can you tell me more about this valley we've found ourselves in and what has been making things more difficult for you recently?"

Snafu- AC 24, HP 95/95, False Life, Mage Armor,
Tuesday August 31st, 2010 9:48:55 AM

"Like Thar" Snafu explained, "I don't know how I came to be here. But here I am, and eager to help and hear more about the recent difficulties you've been experiening in this Valley."

Snafu smiled and waited for Kayleigh's response. What a looker she is, he thought.

Yanosh AC 23 HP 105/105 Endure Elements
Tuesday August 31st, 2010 10:51:57 AM

"I am Yanosh Ironfist, Cleric of Gargul and a member of the BloodPack from the Sargrass Plains. Myself, Tishe', Falmar, Serillana and Taldera are all that remains of the BloodPack. We were under attack in our home and barely made it through the portals that were found there. We wittnessed what apeared to be the possible death of the new God Sargrass. We nearly did not make it out if it hadnt been for Tishe's final sacrafice. We know not where we are and barely know how we got here. But we know we cannot return fro the way we came." Once finished relating just a small portion of their tail Yanosh falls silent.

Tishe' (AC 19 HP 51/51)
Tuesday August 31st, 2010 3:04:54 PM

Tishe' continues to give pats on the arm to Yanosh, Falmar, Serilana, and Taldera; obviously needing reinforcement that something is real and that Tishe' is still here. She smiles at Yanosh's reference to the 'final sacrifice' since it wasn't so final after all; not for a Witch at least! But she has lost so much; home, family, friends, alliances and blessings, perhaps even her patronage of Sargrass itself! There has to be something to hold on to, and Tishe' keeps touching those companions from the Sargrass for that confirmation.

"It must have been a strong magic to warp us to this place, this 'Cinnamon Valley'. I've never heard of it. You say it is peaceful and isn't all shuttlecocked over some crisis, so that is good. Since you are obviously a black handed Walker, perhaps you could weave us some threads so we can find the pattern of this place. Where exactly in the Southern Continent did you say we were? Perhaps somewhere close to Hook City?" Tishe' says the last hoping against hope that they are not completely lost.

Internally, Tishe' also checks her connection to the Power: Sargrass. Is it still there? Can she still cast her domain spells?

Falmar AC: 24 (25 with Sword ) HP 57/69 ( Aura of Courage, Haste 3 more rounds) (MOXY :Familiar HP : 34/34 AC 17 (To hit base 11+3)
Tuesday August 31st, 2010 11:41:36 PM

Falmar's hand strays to the symbol of Living Sargrass around his neck, and looks off in the distance...

" Not so much the death of Sargrass, but the death of Sargrass's innocence. I believe Sargrass lives, just as the Living Sea continues to grow.. they are one in the same....Weft and Web."

Falmar touches his chest feeling the outline of the Mark of Gargul on his chest.as he turns and looks toward Yanosh..

" The Grey god is still owed a service from some of us that we have been unable to fulfill... but the Gods have their own time-line. Eventually I must fulfill the debt that I incurred. As we all must. "

I wonder where we really are.. and where these Elves have come from.. they've not been in the sun for very long surely...This Kayleigh was surely concerned about our arrival...even though she looks to be a Fine looking Beater. ....but we don't really know that do we ? Who si in charge here ? So much for a home I suppose we're all Walkers now.

Taldera (AC 25, HP 97/97)
Wednesday September 1st, 2010 5:15:25 AM

Taldera smiles as Tishe' places her hand. "She really is here, thank goodness."
"As I mentioned before, I'm a wandering bard. With Serilliana here, we travelled to various places in the Wold. Recently we travelled to Oddholme in the Sargrass Plains and joined The Bloodpack. From their Yanosh has told you what little we know of how we ended up here...I wish we could be more help..." Her voice drifts off, filled with disappointment. She turned back to Kayleigh.
"The Green Coven...you're part of the ruling body of Witchspawn correct? If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know, it is the least I can do to thank you."

Knowing once Tishe' is safe, Serillana takes her turn to speak. "Yup, I travel around with Taldera, dancing to my hearts content and finding our way to the Plains. I'm usually full of energy, but just cant muster it at the moment. Today has been a rough and long ride for the Bloodpack."

DM Dai - A joyful reunion
Wednesday September 1st, 2010 10:07:05 AM

Thar tells of his former association with the Mithril Order and asks about the group's current location.

Snafu Expresses his confusion at how he got here, and his admiration for Kayleigh's beauty.

Yanosh tells a little of the story of how the Bloodpack came to be here, and his certainty that it was a one-way trip.

Tishe' revels in being alive once again, and asks where in the continent the Cinnamon Valley is. She will be pleased to know that she can still feel her domain power and connection to the Sargrass.

Falmar explains that they all still owe a service to Gargul.

Taldera mentions that she knows of Kayleigh's position as part of the Green Coven and what that means, offering her assistance if necessary.

Serillana notes that Tishe' is safe and begins to tire as the adrenaline rush fades.

"So most of you have come from the Sargrass Plains!" Kayleigh exclaims. "That's forever away from here." Answering Tishe's question directly, she says, "You're on no part of the southern continent at all! The Cinnamon Valley is located on the northwest end of the Culverwood, among the Windbourne Hills, in the Elennian Peninsula of the continent of Yrth..." she explains. "We have some troubles, though not as many as we once had, or, well, not as vehemently as we once had, perhaps. We had an enemy to the north called the Dread. A terrible group of wizards they were, but they were defeated recently. The Pitchfork Council's hired some mercenaries and such to deal with the remnants and prevent the other kingdoms from getting greedy now that the Dread is gone, but we are relatively small and we haven't got much of an army."

Kayleigh makes a face. "So you didn't all even know each other. I wonder why the portal brought you all this way. There's a Ley Line Nexus here in our Standing Stones, but there are several in the valley, and certainly there are many between here and the Sargrass Plains. It's quite a curious thing."

Tishe' (AC 19 HP 51/51)
Wednesday September 1st, 2010 1:13:23 PM

Tishe's curiosity is perked by the thought of why the heroes arrived in this place. "That is a very good question, Kayleigh. Why?" Even though her head is reeling from being so very far from her normal stomping grounds, Tishe' focuses on the here and now. "By whatever Power brought us all together and here in this place, there must be some purpose. I think it may be best if we all stay together until we at least find out who brought us here and why. Perhaps you would be able to take us to your Standing Stones?"

Thar ail Baerer (Ken M) https://docs.google.com/View?docID=dchth6pt_06zh5c7g3&revision=_latest
Wednesday September 1st, 2010 2:48:23 PM

Thar nods his head as things finally seem to begin making sense. The newly resurrected Tishe' makes some good points re: their purpose for being brought here and staying together for mutual protection

To Kayleigh, he comments, "OK, you implied earlier that you were facing some difficulties but it sounds like this Dread group has been dealt with. What sort of troubles are you specifically facing and how can we help? No matter where we end up, there's usually evil to fight somewhere and it's not like I have a lot going on now anyway..."

Snafu- AC 24, HP 95/95, False Life, Mage Armor,
Wednesday September 1st, 2010 4:02:19 PM

Why here... why now? Snafu thought to himself. The elf had lived long enough to know that there had to be a reason for the summoning of this hodge podge band of adventurers.

A reason indeed, Snafu agreed. For there is obviously some intelligence at work here. I mean anyone could have been summoned- a farmer, merchant, begger, or lady of the... (cough)... night".

Snafu smiled embarassingly at the ladies in attendence, and then continued. "But I see not one commoner amongst us. I daresay this is one of the most extraodinary groups I have ever come across! And so, I say with some certainty that all of this has happened for a reason. Perhaps the Standing Stones will help shed some light as to what that reason is."

Serillana (AC 29 HP 70/70)
Thursday September 2nd, 2010 7:53:13 AM

"Yes, I agree with Tishe'." Serillana confirms, the words feeling odd in her mouth. Who knew that she were going to be able to agree with someone that had recently died. "We obviously had been brought here for a reason, and that reason is one that we have to find out for ourselves."

Yanosh AC 23 HP 105/105 Endure Elements
Thursday September 2nd, 2010 11:10:27 AM

At the mention of being on the Northern Continent Yanosh blanches and seams to turn pale. By Gargul's Eye why has he brought me here so close to home, he thinks to himself.
Uneasily he agrees with Tishe' about being brought here for a purpose and that he is more then willing to help. Unconsciously Yanosh combs at his goatee and mustache with his fingers taking the braids out.

Falmar takes the news of their location with a curious expression... He really has no idea where he is anyway.

Forgive the aparent lack of concern, but is there somewhere we can get cleaned up, we've all had a rough day. "

Falmar reaches up his arm as his Raven returns to him, he reaches in a pouch and presents Moxy with a dried chunk of meat that is quickly dispatched.

DM Dai - A joyful reunion
Thursday September 2nd, 2010 8:30:19 PM

Tishe' thinks it best to stick together and wants to know about the Coven's Standing Stones.

Thar expresses his wish to fight the good fight no matter where he finds himself.

Snafu is also curious about the Standing Stones.

Serillana agrees that it was probably not a coincidence that brought them all together here.

Yanosh is nervous about being so close to his home.

Falmar just wants a hot bath and a good rest.

Kayleigh ponders the why of their being drawn here for a moment. She has suspicions, but no evidence to confirm or deny them. At Tishe's request, Kayleigh laughs lightly. "Take you to the Standing Stones? Aren't there enough of them here for you?" she asks, pointing to the four trilithic stone archways bracketing the cauldron. "This is the place where the Green Coven performs its rituals. The Ley Nexus was bound here by the first members of the coven, led by a powerful witch. They erected these standing stones to mark the boundary of the nexus and contain its power. At that time, there were three real powers in the valley... the Green Coven here in Witchspawn controlled the northwest. The Coven of Weal in Jarlwolf controlled most of the center of the valley; and the Hmanas, who controlled the east end of the valley and whose king, the Honorable Hnand, resided in Jarlwolf. When the Jarl came, he and three of his kind killed the Honorable Hnand and took over. They relentlessly persecuted the Coven of Weal and nearly wiped them out. The Jarl built a great army. Almost serendipitous it was, because without the army of the Jarl, the Dread would have wiped us out. Still, supporting the army taxed the land horribly. The Green Coven of Witchspawn rose up in protest of the Jarl's harsh taxes, and ruthlessly unfair laws. We lost much of our power, though, when the Jarl sent his brothers to knock down our Standing Stones and slaughtered our oldest and most powerful witches. They would have wiped us out except for my relationship with the Culverwood. I was able to secret Wilhemina and myself away in the wood where even the Jarl's men never dared to come. When we heard the Jarl was defeated, we returned. We erected the standing stones once again, and began to rebuild Witchspawn. We do what we can for the people, who are mostly farmers. We get many travelers, being set as we are on the road, but few people stay here for long, most are just passing through to other places."

Kayleigh blushes prettily, seeming slightly embarassed. "Oh dear. Listen to me ramble on. As for your suggestion master Falmar, I agree that you should rest and recuperate from your ordeal. The town is a few hours' walk, so you may want to rest here a while longer before making the journey if you're tired."

Yanosh AC 23 HP 105/105 Endure Elements

Snafu- AC 24, HP 95/95, False Life, Mage Armor,
Friday September 3rd, 2010 12:48:54 PM

"I have a spell that could take us to the town, but since I am unfamiliar with the location, it's probably best that we do it the old fashioned way; on foot" Snafu explained.

"I need 8 hours of uninerupted rest, so perhaps I can take first watch? And my good friend Hoot here (pointing at his pet owl) is especially accustomed to keeping watch at night, should you want him to take a watch as well."

Tishe' (AC 19 HP 51/51)
Friday September 3rd, 2010 1:02:08 PM

"Well", says Tishe' as if that is the end of one conversation and the beginning of another, "it looks like everyone is shady about staying right here for the night before following the threads of this pattern. Thank you for all your help and hospitality." The recently-not-dead-anymore Witch looks around the Standing Stones with keen interest in her eyes, but they always fall back on the heroes in the group.

"I know Yanosh and Falmar very well", she begins, "and while I met Taldera and Seralina only a couple of days ago, we did a lot of talking before... the Event that brought us here." Tishe' inclines her head at Thar and Snafu. "But I don't think we've yet met."

"Many Shadows. My name is Tishe' Weaver, a witch and practitioner of the spell weaving arts of the far away Sargrass Plains. I have only been to the Yrth continent once with a previous adventuring group long ago, and we had never encountered any civilization where we were." She looks around, awed by the large numbers of trees she sees. "This is going to all be very new to me."

"I think we can all trust the Witches here to keep the peace. It's going to be a little tricky for a watch roster if we all cast spells." Tishe' smiles. We're also going to have to get some idea who would be a good spokesperson/leader for us if we're sticking together."

To the newly living Tishe', Thar bows and says, "Madam, I am Thar ail Baerer. I'm a cleric and ranger who used to be part of a group called the Mithril Order, but we eventually went our separate ways. Since then, I've spent my time doing some missions for my church, eliminating undead wherever I can find it. I have never been to this part of the world, and most of my time was spent in the forests near Plateau City or in the town itself. Like you, this will be new to me and I'm looking forward to learning more about it. Being outdoors is much preferable to the crowded hovels of humans everywhere, no offense to present company of course."

Pausing, he adds, "I'm glad you're alive and I apologize that I had no magic to bring you back to life. It's good that our new host had the ability to do so."

Thar looks around, yawns and says to the group, "Yes, I'm for taking a nap, but let's make sure we've got somewhere safe to do it, and a place we can defend. Any suggestions?"

Serillana (AC 29 HP 70/70)
Friday September 3rd, 2010 9:50:38 PM

"Not watch rosters again!... It was terribly difficult figuring that one out with all the other people in the group being able to cast their magic... Serilliana mentally sighs.

Moving away from her thoughts, Serillana beams out a big smile and turns her head to her bardic friend. "Taldera, we haven't been here before, have we? And there are new people that we have just met, and looks like we'll be sticking around with them. A small little celebration has to occur to mark this celebration." With the last sentence and sort of fatigue is relieved from Serillana while she waits for a reply.

Taldera (AC 25, HP 97/97)

Taldera smiles, "hmm, no we haven't come here before, and any excuse for a celebration! You feeling up to dancing?" She finishes, as she pulls a lute out of her bag.

DM Dai - A Night's Rest
Monday September 6th, 2010 4:52:13 AM

Yanosh offers to take the midnight watch.

Snafu requests first watch.

Tishe' introduces herself to those who don't know her and suggests that watch isn't necessary in this place since it's controlled by Kayleigh and her coven. She also suggests that they take the opportunity for the group to organize itself.

Thar introduces himself to the group, and expresses his belief that finding someplace more defensible to sleep would be preferable.

Serillana wants a celebration in honor of meeting the new people who have decided to stick with them.

Taldera agrees with Seri, and offers to play the music for dancing.

Kayleigh watches Tishe's interest in the Standing Stones and smiles, remembering the first time she was brought here as a girl, and feeling the power in this place. "There is no need for watches. We can make camp in my sacred grove, which is just a few minutes walk over the hill to the south."

She leads the group to the grove, a large circle of trees amid the open grass, consisting of a huge Hawthorne tree on the end of the circle closest to them, forming the top of a ring of oak and ash trees. One of each kind of tree seems to almost bow in greeting around the circle as Kayleigh enters it. Those who are looking around may notice that there is a ring of mushrooms inside the circle at the base of the great hawthorne tree.

As the adventurers enter the quiet grove, they are overcome with a sense of peace and health. This area is hallowed ground, a sacred space in the deepest meaning of the word. You notice that the wind blows outside and rustles the leaves of the trees, but you cannot feel the wind at all within the circle. What was slightly on the cool side before is now a pleasant warmth that feels like an ideal warm spring day.

Kayleigh looks at the others proudly. "Welcome to my sacred grove. I have grown most of these trees from seeds harvested in the Culverwood and nurtured them over the years to their present state. They are only twenty-five years old or so, but I have helped them grow through my arts. Of them all, only the great Hawthorne was here before I planted the others." The circle is about fourty feet wide, and consists of fifteen large trees, with an opening at the south end. "We will be safe enough here. The trees will not let any harm come to us."

As the group settles in to stay the night Kayleigh asks them to forego having a fire, as it would be disrespectful to the trees to burn wood in their presence. The night inside the circle seems as pleasantly warm as the day was, anyway, and she provides light in the form of Daylight spells as long as they're all awake, and a few everburning torches once people start going to bed.

In the early evening, Kayleigh joined in dancing with the others. She was spry and light on her feet, and twirled and pranced about with an otherworldly grace. As Taldera strummed her lute furiously, and the others made merry, the trees seemed to almost keep time as if they wished to dance as well. "Queen Maab will be pleased with the offerings of song and dance here in this sacred place among Oak, Ash, and 'Thorn." Kayleigh grinned.

Kayleigh produced a ring of stones on top of which she placed a small cauldron and warmed some tasty stew by emptying it into the cauldron and then casting a metal-heating spell on it, which made it boil almost instantly and turned out a nice hot meal without resorting to needing fire. After the meal, Kayleigh asks some more questions of the adventurers.

"So you intend to join together to carve out a place and a purpose here? We can always use more adventurers to help with the evils that regularly threaten this place. This is very valuable land, and somebody always wants to upset the status quo. I mostly stick to blessing the crops and healing the sick, but Wilhemina would know if there are any jobs which need doing and where you could set yourselves up. The Pitchfork Council, which governs this valley, often needs to call on mercenaries or adventurers to perform tasks which they, having little military strength, cannot. Right now, I believe there are some members of the Mailed Fist working on contract, but people who wish to live here and make a life here are always better defenders than those who are paid." she explained. "If you wish to become a company of adventurers, would you give yourselves a fearsome name like many of the others we have had through here?" she asked, interested. "I have little experience with these sorts of things. I am just a simple witch and druid. I work to preserve the fields and meadows, the farms and flocks and people... I have lived for a long while, but I do not get many chances to go away from here. I am needed too much, you see. Wilhemina, however, has ranged all over the Wold and has more experience than I."

Thar relaxes when they enter the safety of the glade, especially since they need not fear outside enemies. "Contract work is fine for me," he says. "As long as we're not helping or aiding evil, I'm fine with whatever type of work comes our way. Regarding a name, I'm not the most creative type so how about someone else show their creative streak?"

As the music and dancing begins, Thar sighs as memories of his Ruby, the lovely woman who broke his heart so many months ago. Shaking his head free of the sad thoughts, he straightens up and enjoys the spectacle in front of him.

Tishe's shoulders relax as she enters Kayleigh's glade, and the witch spends some time walking barefoot through the glade, touching the trees and drinking deeply the feeling of 'oneness' with the forest. "Ma'ab is a very good mentor to have, though she doesn't have tall trees like this where I come from."

The witch lays out her equipment for repair and inventory during dinner and relaxes with the others, listening to the music and dancing a little without really feeling the music the way Seralina and Taldera seem capable of. Instead, she relaxes by setting up a portable loom and begins to lay out a wide belt of cloth, weaving first one color and then another as if by chance, waiting for time and the Powers to determine what the pattern will be. In the morning, she intends to give the completed belt to Kayleigh as a friendship gift!

"I suppose being heroes at large would be a way to keep a standard of living", begins Tishe' as the fire, dancing, and music winds down to more speculative thoughts. "Yet the method of our arrival almost shouts at a greater purpose. We are all here in the rising dawn of a new pattern, and should explore the lands and people here. If nothing else, this will give us a better understanding of those who need to be defended from bullies.

Happily danceing her little heart out, Serillana tumbles and spins with the music fratically as though she werestill running from the horrors of what she had faced back in the Plains. She soon realizes what she is doing and starts to dance a merry jig, something more up-beat than frantic. "That's in the past, Seri. This is the start of a new chapter!" She thinks as she stops with the music.

"I guess we could be considered a group now, coudn't we?" Serillana give a big toothy grin. "Names, names... What do we have in common... Portals, adventuring and group.... Let me think about this...." Serillana starts to scribble in her diary, figuring out what name they could have.

Falmar waders around the grove touching grasses, plants, and trees. He removes his armor and runs his hand through his hair straightening it a bit.

Seems like forever since I've seen trees...but it hasn't been very long really...how quickly the
Sargrass changes you... This reminds me of the place of my Father....would these trees ever grow in the Plains ? They may once have...and may again.....

Turning to Kayleigh

" If I am needed in this Valley, I will offer my services, and I certain most of us would agree. To understand what we have been through you must understand where we have come from. Listen, while I tell of the Sargrass plains, and the life that fills a seeming wasteland.

Falmar begins to tell those who may not know of the Sargrass, the plains, the grasses, the Domes, Manfri, and the people who inhabit the Plains.

Snafu- AC 24, HP 95/95, False Life, Mage Armor,
Tuesday September 7th, 2010 10:36:15 AM

Snafu wasn't comfortable trusting in strangers and trees to keep his new companions safe. We don't know their motives or competencies he thought. And so he decided to put Hoot on watch. Empathetically he tried to communicate his concern and desire for the Owl to keep a watchful eye.

With this added defense in place Snafu relaxed somewhat, and he joined in on the conversation. "Adventure is my middle name" he explained to Kayleigh "I would be happy to lend my services, so long as the cause is just. As for names... well, I will have to think on that."

Taldera (AC 25, HP 97/97)
Wednesday September 8th, 2010 2:56:14 AM

As Taldera finishes singing and playing, she smiles. "Just like before, Serillana's dancing and my music...after what has just passed it is a relieve."

Answering Kayleigh's questions, Taldera talks to her, "a fearsome name? I'd rather not...though a memorable name would be good. Once we are ready, I guess as a group we should go talk to Wilhemina if we wish to carve out a purpose here, how would we find her from here?"

DM Dai - A Night's Rest
Wednesday September 8th, 2010 8:08:26 PM

Yanosh feels that this is as good a place to work as any.

Thar thinks that contract work is fine. The music and dancing makes him nostalgic for good times past.

Tishe' enjoys the dancing, but decides she'd rather weave for fun. She makes Kayleigh a lovely belt.

Serillana dances her heart out, deciding to feel the exhilaration of a new beginning rather than regret and fear of the past. She wracks her brain for possible names for the group.

Falmar takes in the grove and it reminds him of his father. He tells Kayleigh the story of what they have been through on the Sargrass.

Snafu set his companion to watch, wary of the druid's offered protection. He reaffirms the others' belief that they would like to be of service if they can be.

Taldera suggests going to see Wilhemina to learn more.

Kayleigh smiles at the others. "What noble people you are to come to a new land and offer to serve a people you do not even know!" she praised them. She yawned, stretching prettily. "It is late, and we should be sleeping. A long way to go tomorrow! Good night," she added. With that, she went and curled up next to her big shaggy wolf, and fell asleep.

The rest of the night passed without incident, quiet and safe and warm in the druidess' sacred grove. When she awoke in the morning, Kayleigh rose with the dawn and said her daily devotions, praying over the plants and trees of the grove. When she finished an hour later, she returned to the group and awakened them for the journey into Witchspawn.

The journey to Witchspawn took several hours walking, and they reached it about an hour after they finished their lunch. With the sun high in the sky, they saw the small collection of buildings that was Witchspawn surrounded by a ten-foot-high log wall. Kayleigh stopped them just outside the eastern gate. "This is the town. It's been lovely meeting you, and I look forward to seeing you again soon! I can't really spare any more time, but you can ask the guards about places to stay, and how to get in touch with Wilhemina."

Leaving them there, in sight of the eastern gate, Kayleigh mounts her wolf and they trot off and seem to disappear behind a nearby tree.

Once they arrive, he looks over its overt defenses and it seems like a basic place to rest and visit for a while. He sees the guards and asks the nearest one about how to contact this Wilhemina person, as well as a place to stay for their time here.

Tishe' sleeps and rises with the sun. She performs her normal ablutions, cleaning and packing and renewing her prominses to the southern Power, the Sargrass. Tishe's eats what is provided, and is cheerful enough in gathering firewood or weaving a sleeping mat, but she is no cook and keeps away from the food preparation.

The walk is easy, and soon the group is in front of the town. Thar looks like he is taking the lead, and so Tishe' stays with the main group and waits for the friendly guards to let them into the town.

Snafu prepared and cast his usual spells in the morning, collected his gear and placed Hoot on his shoulder. "Get your rest" he told the small owl as he placed a blindfold on it's eyes.

The walk back to town was particularly enjoyable for Snafu. He stayed close to Kayleigh, for he was eager to get to know her. "It was a pleasure to meet you, my lady" he said with a bow when it was time for her to depart.

Snafu then approached the guards and asked about Wilhemina, places to stay and the town in general.

Serillana wakes up and takes in her new surroundings in the new light. She hums the song that Taldera played as she makes herself ready for the walk, trying to not get in the way of the other adventurers. She also pats down her sleeve and her ankle to make sure that everything is still there.

Once they have reached their destination, Serillana quickly realizes that she still looks a wreck and had just gotten over her looks for a little while out in the "wild". Serillana then stays behind the group trying to not garner any attention, hoping that the people that are talking will lead them to a place with a hot bath.

DM Dai - The Gates of Witchspawn

Thar enjoys the walk, and is the first to approach the guards.

Yanosh performs his morning devotions and when in sight of the town studies its defenses. He asks the guards about places to stay.

Tishe' performs her normal routine, early to bed and early to rise. She lets the others do the talking for the moment.

Snafu gets up and sorts out his spells, then sticks to Kayleigh like glue until she says her goodbyes. At the gate he echoes the questions of the others.

Serillana gets up and just tries to stay out of the way. She worries that they haven't had a chance to clean up in a while, and fusses over how she must look, hoping that town can provide a hot bath.

Falmar gets ready and occupies himself during the trek with Moxy, griping to himself about not having found a companion who could be a better match to his temperament.

Tishe' smiles to herself. What a strange place! No Grasses, no dome over the town, and water laying on the ground! And then, here I am making thoughtful discussion about the future!

"I'm Serillana Swiftshot, dancer mainly..." Serillana says quietly, matching the awkwardness of what she feels about meeting someone new and not fully trusting them.

At talk of weapons, she pulls a black sling made out of a glittery fabric and pulls a dagger somewhere from her cloth armor and puts it back in the sheath on her hip. "I have another 6 slings in my backpack, matching my dancing costumes. You always have to be ready for a fight in a bar..." Serillana says to the guards as she pulls out a red, purple and green sling from her bag. "All hand made." Serillana smiles.

As the guards inspect her weapons/handiwork, Serillana keeps talking to Horace to keep the awkwardness at bay. "So I've heard that people have been going missing recently. I was just wondering if we needed to be wary of anyone in particular? Has the guards gone missing, because frankly, you don't look like a guard... Well, I don't mean that in a bad way. It's just your hands tell a different story. Not they they are manly, but many in a different sense of the word. I should be quiet now shouldn't I..." Tishe' registers herself and her weapons and asks the others if they've heard of the Mailed Fist.

Yanosh notices Horace's callouses and attempts to comfort him for not being a real warrior.

Serillana gives her details and then tries to find out more about the missing people using the tactic of verbal diarrhea.

Thar tells the guards of his details and reinforces Seri's request for information on the disappearances.

Falmar asks about who hired the Mailed Fist, mentioning his low opinion of their worth.

Taldera shows her weapons and gives her name while wracking her brain for what she might know about the Mailed Fist.

Snafu introduces himself and Hoot, and shows his weapons.

The guards, satisfied with seeing the weapons and hearing the names, nod their contentment with the information. "Thank you," the short one, Graham, said.

Horace narrowed his eyes at Yanosh's statement. "Are you mocking me?" Turning to Seri his demeanor softens hearing her explanation. "Ah. This is a very small village, and we have no dedicated soldiers. Well, unless you count the Bloodletter. But even he does his own thing most of the time. He has, however, organized some of us into a militia of sorts. There are not that many of us, but enough to keep two men at each gate anytime they are open... Mostly we just watch the gates and alert him if something seems suspicious. I'm a smith by trade, but I am part of militia and so I get shifts of gate-duty occasionally."

"The disappearances?" Graham answered when asked. "Nothing much... just a few people who've disappeared from some farms in the area. Nobody from town. And we don't know if they've been kidnapped or attacked by wild animals or what. People go off to do their daily work, and never come home. The Coven hired the Mailed Fist to look into it, and to help keep us safe from anybody who wants to take over the former Dreadlands, and gets too greedy. This is the most fertile farmland in the whole Wold. Any king would love to have it, and the gods all know there's enough petty kings in the Windbourne hills."

"Oh, so they don't come back from work? I hope that nothing horrible has happened to them." Serillana sound slightly worried for them. She knows from her travels that the Mailed Fist are orderly and very, very organised. If Serillana saw them at a bar, they would take no notice of her and walk out after they had questioned some people.

"Okay, I shall now acknowledge you as guards. I guess I'll see you later if I need any of your wares" Serillana smiles at Horace. "Bloodletter, a name I should not forget.

Serillana walks towards the Soujourn in after asking the guards where it is, taking in the layout of the town, looking around at the landmarks, figuring out where they can meet up if they get lost.

Taldera fills Snafu in and anyone else that is interested. "The Mailed Fist is the largest group of mercenaries in the Elennian Peninsula. We probably don't have too much to worry about from them, unless they are paid to get in our way, they are very strict, stick to their neutrality no matter what, and do not accept plainly illegal jobs. If any of them do you give you trouble, I suggest you threaten them with telling their superiors, even causing trouble while drunk or something similar is dealt with, brutally."

Taldera follows the rest of the group towards the Sojourn Inn, looking around for any good spots where she might later be able to entertain the locals with a performance.

DM Dai - The Sojourn
Wednesday September 15th, 2010 6:41:17 PM

Falmar suggests heading to the Sojourn Inn.

Serillana finishes talking with the guards, making a note of the name Bloodletter, before following the others to the inn.

Snafu agreed with setting off towards the inn, leaving further planning for tomorrow.

Yanosh remains quiet after the guard gets offended. He keeps his eyes peeled for trouble as the group moves through the town.

Thar agrees that the missing farmers is something they should look into.

Tishe' marvels at the lack of a protective dome over the town. It is strange to see how people live away from the Sargrass.

Taldera gives the group information about the Mailed Fist. She seems quite knowledgeable. She keeps her eyes peeled for a good performance space as well.

The group makes their way through the town, following the short stretch of road from the gate to the center of town. There is a convenient board there for travellers giving directions to places of interest and a small map, but it seems mostly superfluous as there's not that much town to begin with. Any of the locals moving about the green will gladly offer information about the few places in Witchspawn a traveler might want to go.

The town of Witchspawn is laid out in four distinct quarters, divided by the Great Road which runs through the town from east to west (leading to Jarlwolf and Rowena respectively), and the Witch Road which runs north to the Green Coven's Standing Stones a short way out of town, and south to the Culverwood. The four corners of the crossroads are taken up by the four largest buildings in the town. On the northeast corner stands the Green Hall, generally considered the town center and where the Green Coven conduct their business. It is relatively plain, but sturdy, as the outer walls are a mossy green stone.

The southwest corner is the village green, a grassy area a good hundred feet on a side. Past that to the west is the blacksmithy, run by a human named Gorim Hardhammer, a man whose family have been the village smiths since its founding. He mostly makes tools, but is competent enough at making and repairing weapons and metal armor.

On the other side of the smithy, you will find the Wailing Witch. The Wailing Witch is not a rooming house at all, but a rather unkempt tavern run by a Half-orc named Sneed and his human wife Jezelle. Most of their business is legal, and any disputes are settled by Mungo, a half ogre that serves as the bar's bouncer who is Sneed and Jezelle's adopted son.

On the northwest corner of the crossroads stands The Travelers Rest. The Travelers Rest is another Inn and is run by Morgan Standish. He is a grizzled veteran of one war or another. He runs a good, clean Inn but has almost no rooms available at the moment because the Mailed Fist has been billeted in his establishment. He has a small tidy bar attached to the Inn where the troops blow off steam. His rates are a bit higher than those at the Sojourn mostly because he is not a native of these parts but an outsider. Goods seem to cost him a little more and help just doesn't seem to come his way as often as it does for the Sojourn. The Mailed Fist coming to town was a good thing for him. His rooms are filled and his purse is filled too since the Sojourn decided not to billet the mercenaries.

There is a small marketplace to the north of the Travelers' Rest where locally produced items can be purchased; produce, cloth, etc. Across from the street is a butcher shop run by a rotund halfling named Kermick. It is joked that he needs a ladder to butcher a cow and does so with knives as big as he is.

A few other random buildings, guildhouses, and even a few homes make up the rest of the town, but most of the population is farmers and has their houses out on their farmland. To the west, out of town a ways, where the creek crosses the road there is a grain mill on the other side of the creek the distinctly unpleasant smell of a tannery.

However, the southeast corner of the crossroad is the place the adventurers seek. It hosts the Sojourn Inn, which is run by Maxine and Bradford Tully. Walking into the inn, the atmosphere is very jovial, there are several people at tables eating and drinking beer. The food smells divine and the beer in the glass flagons is a deep, rich amber. The Tullys are renowned in the area for making all of the food that is served in the tavern.

Bradford looks up from behind the bar. There seems to be some kind of shelf or something for him to stand on behind the bar because the top of the bar comes up to his upper belly, though human customers are sitting comfortably in front of the bar on stools.

In the few seconds the adventurers stand there taking in the sights of the Inn's tavern, a matronly halfling woman calls for their attention from the side. "Hello, dears! I'm Maxine Tully, and welcome to the Sojourn Inn! Are you here for dinner or just a drink, or do you need rooms? We only have four guest rooms available at the moment, but the food and beer are fresh and plentiful!"

He joins the companions at a nearby table and tries to listen to the conversation around them, trying pick up any talk about missing farmers, etc. He does ask Ms. Tully, "Hello madam. Thank you for your hospitality and we were told that some farmers have recently gone missing outside of town. Your town guards told us about the problem and mentioned that we might be able to help out a bit. Would you know anything about it?"

"Maxine, can I just say, this inn seems exquisite, you're doing a great job. I'm Taldera. As Serillana said if you need anything entertainment wise we're both quite skilled."
"Though, we probably look more 'adventurer' then entertainer at the moment." Taldera laughs. "Don't worry, assuming the rooms have baths we'll look far better than we currently do."

"As for the rooms...7 of us and 4 rooms, so everyone except one of us needs to share. Serillana and myself can share a room, we're rather used to it after travelling together, unless anyone objects?" She asks the group.

DM Dai - The Sojourn
Thursday September 16th, 2010 7:42:49 PM

Falmar asks the hostess for the full range of service.

Snafu mentioned that baths would be in order if they'd be sharing rooms.

Serillana offers the house the services of her and Taldera as entertainment.

Yanosh remains silent except to make it known that his room must be near Tishe's.

Thar questions Maxine about the disappearances around the area.

Taldera expresses her pleasure at being in such a fine inn and seconds Seri's offer of entertainment.

Tishe' asks about the sleeping arrangements between 7 people and 4 rooms.

Maxine fields all questions with the sure, smooth hand of a seasoned professional. She begins ordering the chambermaids to heat the baths, and she shows the adventurers up the stairs to their rooms. Each room is fairly sizable and immaculate, with two large single beds made up in clean white linen, lamb's wool blankets, and goosedown pillows. Halflings like to be comfortable, and the Tullys have certainly extended that philosophy to their guests.

The whole time, Maxine chatters on about the answers to their comments and questions. "Oh the disappearances. Nasty business, that. Mind you, I said to Bradford just the other day, I said thank the gods that none of it's come into the town, but must be an evil one heard me, because next day there was a girl missing from one of the houses near the west gate. The people around here are all in a tizzy about it, but there aren't really many clues. Nobody claims to have seen or heard a thing! And her parents, poor dears. All of them must be worried sick!"

"The Coven will handle it. They've got those Mailed Fist people patrolling the area, and I know they're looking for leads, but it's slow going, more's the pity. They have turned up nary a hair from anybody's head. Oh no, dear, those go over there," she interrupts herself giving instructions to a chambermaid, "There's a dear."

Maxine and her chambermaids quickly have them set up in rooms. She lets them sort out their own rooming situations and accomodates them as to whether they'd like their dinners in the tavern or brought to their rooms.

Behind the main inn, the Sojourn has a bathhouse divided in half for men and women, each side housing four large tin tubs. In the center of a bathhouse is a great stone chimney, going up to a loft above the bathouse. There rests a great black cauldron with a stone fireplace around it. A pump draws water from the well directly into the cauldron, from which a somewhat ingenius system of reed pipes hang, which spill the hot water into whichever tub the innkeeper chooses to point them at, allowing them all to be filled quite quickly with hot water.

After baths, and food, Maxine offers the small stage to one side of the Tavern to Taldera and Seri and is pleased with their performance. Bards wander through from time to time, but they never stay long, and are always well-received in this town. The Oathbinder has some talent, but is usually too busy these days to sing much.

As the performance is winding down, and the tavern is starting to empty out, a young man wearing a green tabard over his homespun shirt comes in and bows to Mr Tully, fishes a piece of paper out of his satchel and hands it to him. Tully gives him a copper penny and sends him off. The messenger tugs his forelock in thanks and runs off to his next delivery.

"Oi, you lot," Bradford says, coming out from behind the bar. Behind the bar he seemed rather large for a halfling, but down from his shelf and on the floor he seemed smaller. "You've a message from the Coven. Seems old Wilhemina would like to speak to you tomorrow, if she can. Seems the Woodwitch told her about you. The note doesn't say what it's about but I'll wager a tun of my best brandy she's not going to ask for farming tips," he joked. "My guess would be the Coven's not happy with the progress the Mailed Fist are making, and want to hire you, to either join with them or replace them, on the searching."

As Serillana bounces around the room (Perform Dance: 10), her mind is set on other things. Why is the stage so small? Why were they here? What would be a good name for the group? I'm still very tired... Let's keep a look out for people that aren't here for the performance and want to know who we are. What does he think he is doing? Serillana thinks as Falmar upstages her and decides to take a break and have a few drinks. Oh well... You can only move up from here Seri...

------

The next morning, Serillana puts on a modest entertainers outfit, sturdy red pants with a red singlet top. Her hair tied up into a high ponytail. When she learns about the the meeting with Wilhelmina, Serillana gets thinking. "We should do a little research to see where the Mailed Fist are up to Witchspawn. Shouldn't they be able to handle some missing people though?" Serillana asks Taldera, thinking that Taldera has a whole file for the Mailed Fist somewhere in her bag.

"Girl missing?" Snafu asked. "By the Gods, that is terrible. How many other people have gone missing? Is there a pattern in the disappearances? Is it happening in a particular part of town or at a certain time of day?"

Questions continued to linger in Snafu's mind, but he managed to put them on the back burner when Serillana started performing.

"Bravo!" he cheered, as he lifted his mug and swayed it back and forth to the performance. His mood remained quite festive until Bradford delivered his message.

"I can't speak for the group, but I'd be honored to do what I can for the town" Snafu promised. "Perhaps we should make it an early night then."

With that Snafu slugged back his drink and made his way up to his room. Once there, he put Hoot on watch and went to bed early.

In the morning, he would wake up early, memorize and cast is spells, and prepare to visit Wilhemina.

Taldera (AC 25, HP 97/97)
Sunday September 19th, 2010 1:35:19 PM

Taldera baths and returns to inn wearing a tailored navy blue dress, along with her favourite jewellery. She blushes slightly, feeling out of place among her fellow adventurers. "Well, if you're going to provide entertainment, might as well go all the way." She sits towards the back of the stage on a stool, to allow room for Serillana and anyone else that wishes to join in to dance, singing and playing her lute, the song being about a group of heroes being brought together under mysterious circumstances. (Perform check: Take 10, 10+21 = 31)

After the performance she listens to Bradford deliver the message. "Well hopefully it's replace..." she sighs, not getting along well with people who only work for the highest bidder.

-----

In the morning, Taldera sings a simple tune as the sun rises, refreshing her song based magic. She changes back to her much more practical adventuring clothes, her mithral breastplate underneath. She offers what information she can on the Mailed Fist. "It does seem odd that they can't handle something like this. I'm not sure there would be a way to check if they are real members, and I don't think they would be fake members anyway, it would be risky at best to try and pose as members, if the Mailed Fist found out...still, I suppose we could ask them information about what regiment they are from, and if they gave false information we would know. Also if they have been causing trouble they might not be real members, we should ask Wilhemina how they have been acting, what regiment they are from and if they have any leads.

DM Dai - Meeting the Green Coven
Sunday September 19th, 2010 6:50:32 PM

Falmar chats with the Tavern customers for news and information, and agrees to room with Thar.

Serillana wants to know more about the Mailed Fist's activities.

Snafu thinks of a few more questions, but gets sidetracked by the entertainment.

Thar asks for information about Wilhemina and how to deal with her.

Yanosh expresses his desire to look into the disappearances even if they aren't asked.

Taldera performs beautifully, and answers the others' questions about the Mailed Fist.

The buzz the adventurers can gather about the disappearances are that there appears to be a struggle, and some tracks, but even the best trackers have been unable to make any sense of them. Perhaps the Coven will be able to provide more detail.

About Wilhemina, most of the townsfolk differ slightly. It seems that she's something of a mystery, most people probably never having seen her outside the Green Hall, and all having somewhat differing experiences with her. They all agree on two things. One, she's barking mad, and two, she's as wise and crafty as a whole pack of foxes.

The hour for the appointment comes, and the messenger arrives to show the adventurers to the meeting. It's just a short walk across the street and into the meeting hall inside the Green Hall. It takes up most of the bottom floor, except for a starcase on either side of the room leading up to a second floor.

Inside, four people sit on a dais, waiting for the group. There's an unusually tall and solidly built elven man, with a monstrously thick composite bow over his shoulder, and a slightly short but pleasant looking young human man. You recognize the enchantingly lithe form of Kayleigh, smiling down at you, and in the center of it all, in a large Cauldron, is an old, frail looking woman. Well, her body looks frail. Her skin is warted over and she's missing an eye. Her hair is gray and stringy, and her bedraggled looks are completely at odds with the fine, rich red robes she wears. Her eyes, however, tell a different story. She looks at everybody and everything the way a hawk might look at a mouse. They are clear, and alive. They dance with mischief, or amusement. They are not the eyes of the doddering old lady the rest of her appearance conveys.

Kayleigh's wolf Ironfang sleeps to one side of the dais, and just below it there are a few more people, including what appears to be a hobgoblin in black armor over bright yellow clothes. His orange skin clashes with the yellow padding under his black armor, and his right hand appears to be black and rotting.

As the adventurers make their way across the hall, they are greeted by Kayleigh.

"Welcome, friends! It is good to see you again. Allow me to introduce you to the Green Coven." She points to the huge elf. "This is Mikal Dunston. The townsfolk call him Mikal The Ram, or sometimes Bloodletter. He is in charge of the militia, and takes care of day-to-day running of military matters."

She points next to the human, who flashes a smile that while not traditionally handsome is exceedingly friendly, charming, and sincere. "This is Hmarper Hnarr, The townsfolk call him Oathbinder, as he is in charge of administrative duties and trade within the town. He oversees contracts and sorts out any financial disputes." The man bows gracefully.

"And finally, this is Wilhemina MacBride, the Greywitch. Leader of the Green Coven. She is in charge of social disputes and is the town's healing and herb woman and midwife." Wilhemina makes no movement, except to shift her eyes to each of them in turn.

"And of course you already know me." she finishes.

Thar looks at each person as they are announced and nods politely in turn. Respectfully, he responds, "Thank you for taking allowing us to meet you today. I am Thar ail Baerer, priest and ranger. I must compliment you on your hospitality and you have a very well run town."

Moving to business, he says, "I am sorry to hear about the disappearances of some of your farmers and it sounds like something our group would be capable of helping you with. We were informed that the other company in town hasn't had much luck solving the problem, and, speaking for myself at least, we would like to help. What can you tell us about the disappearances, what sorts of evidence has been uncovered and are there any leads that we could follow up on?"
