The Court is in Session (DM JohnP) Friday August 13th, 2010 10:52:19 PM
After the Children of Chaos have had a chance to rest, a firm knock is heard at the door of their chambers. Whomever answers the door sees the Bailiff waiting to escort them back to the Court. Once everyone gathers their items and casts a last look at the refreshments, the Bailiff turns silently and leads them back to the Court of Law.
The trip through the corridors is the same as before, although the expectations of the Children may be different. The Children are shown back to the bench that they occupied during the first portion of the Trial. Except, this time, they are now waiting for the verdict of the Court.
"You completed the Test. The Judges will be here soon. Do you have any questions before they arrive?"
Xenia (AC29 HP102/102) Saturday August 14th, 2010 9:40:31 AM
"Yeah, I got a question." Xenia stands and the folds of her dark black robe fall into neat lines around her slim form. For a moment, she pauses in thought, and when she speaks, her manner is more formal.
"Are there provisions in your Law for counterclaim? That is to say, should the finding today be in our favor, can we file suit for damages caused by the initial bringing of your charges?"
"I don't think that it will be too difficult to demonstrate that your actions have lead to the destruction of Peerimus' grove at the hands of those working on the behalf of the Court of Law."

Torgon stands waiting for the resumption of the trial, and tries to suppress a grin as Xenia attempts to turn their own game against them.
"They have a point" Torgon chimes in. Torgon would love to add more, but his people don't need legalese, and he is at a loss for what to say. His people handle their own business in a much more simple and straightforward way, and he is glad of that.
His hand involuntarily clenches, and he grits his teeth as he thinks back to his time in the city not long ago. "Stinking rotten paper pushers." he mumbles to himself.

Bailiff's Response (DM JohnP) Sunday August 15th, 2010 10:48:04 PM
The Bailiff is without expression as Xenia asks her question. The half-elf rogue has to wait patiently for an answer but one eventually comes. Or, rather, a non-answer.
"That is without precedent, to my knowledge. You may ask, of course."
While waiting for the Judges to come in, the other members of the Children of Chaos banter back and forth.

The Court Reconvenes (DM SteveK) Tuesday August 17th, 2010 12:03:29 PM
The Children of Chaos have had enough time to rest and recuperate all spells used during thier trial by combat. A good meal is displayed neatly on one side, and no sooner has the last hero laid aside napkin, than the Bailiff knocks and enters.
"Children of Chaos, the Court is ready to proceede. If you would accompany me, I will escort you to the chambers."
The Children, no real recourse or animosity to do otherwise, follow the Bailiff to the familiar courtroom and take their seats within the defendants' bench area.
As before, observers of all types file into the Court to watch the coming proceedings. Once the Children are seated and the automaton has fetched beverages for all of them, the Bailiff gives a signal and a small creature bangs a mithril gong suspended from a black, metallic frame near the judges chairs. A hush quickly settles in the Court.
The judges enter slowly from an entrance near the seats. Leading the eight judges is a tall, insectoid being that the Children recognizae as a formian myrmach. Rash and the others recognize the other creatures - a solar angel, a rakshasa, a pit devil and horned devil, a couatl, a hound archon and a mechanical construct that they recognize as an inevitable. The formian and the inevitable sit together in the centre two chairs, flanked on either side by the good and evil judges. Once they are seated, the formian motions towards the Bailiff, who stiffens and then begins to speak.
"The Court of Law is in session, judging the actions and intent of the group of mortals known as the Children of Chaos. The Children of Chaos are affiliated with the chaotic forces of the Wold and have served to bring disorder and disharmony to the Wold. The Court will judge whether the Children of Chaos threaten to upset the natural order and balance of the Wold dictated by the Jericho. By default, the Court of Law is mandated by the Jericho to judge and enforce the balance as envisioned at the creation of the Wold."
"According to custom and practice accepted from time immemorial, the trial has been in two parts: the Trial of Nature and the Trial of Intent. I present to the Court compelling evidence that the mortal group styled the Children of Chaos did fail the Trial of Intent. I further present to the Court that the Children of Chaos succeeded in the Trial of Intent."
The Bailiff looks in the heroes direction and nods before sitting down.
The Formian Myrmarch Judge antenna quivers and it speaks. "Children of Chaos, you are currently in balance. Before pronouncing judgement, the Court of Law has a little used, yet valid law enabling the accused to ask and be answered any questions to ensure the situation is fully understood. We await your questions and will answer to the best of our collected knowledge without subterfuge."
A hush falls over the Courtroom, and it is obvious that everyone, everyone is waiting for the heroes to speak.
ooc: OK, the next couple posts (yours and mine) are to ensure we are all on the same page in regards to what is happening and needs to happen. The Court of Law isn't omniscient, but I'll make them tell you just about anything you want to know. :-)
Xenia (AC29 HP102/102) Tuesday August 17th, 2010 2:16:44 PM
The girl rogue wrinkles her nose, squares up her jaw and gives the entire panel of Judge Guys a look over before setting herself to speak.
"Alright, I'm gonna talk plain, alright? Because I think its time to set aside all this formal Law stuff and get down to actually doing something to help folks."
"You know we're here on the way to stop the Migration Thingie in its out of control running around. We know you know. We've told you already. I'm also betting that you're concerned about this Migration too. I'm betting that you've been watching other folks who've been trying to stop it. You maybe got plans yourselves, that may or may not work."
"I wanna know what you've seen, what you've planned, what you know. Maybe some of it may be of help. I think we pretty much know what we need to know. We know where we need to go. We know what we need to do when we get there. We know that you're the bridge that's gonna get us to the Valley of Ahl. But anything you can add to that, anything that can help ensure that we succeed could mean the difference between life and death for lots of folks. So talk, and keep talking. Never know what's gonna be important and what's not."

I believe you might have said that wrong and we need to be precise since our lives are at stake. I do find it ironic since I almost feel we failed the trial of combat by partaking at all and believe we should have passed the trial of intent since our motives have been for the greater good of all. I do understand that some of you esteemed judges prefer evil but that is a different story.
I have noticed you are our judges by default by your own decree? What does that mean? Why be default? Have you taken on this responsibility of your own accord? What other choices do we have rather than be judged by you? I certainly don't feel that I am being judged by my peers."

Torgon AC: 33 HP : 180 Wednesday August 18th, 2010 9:19:29 AM
Torgon stands, pulling his large frame upright. Questions about the very nature of this court, and possibly others run through his mind.
"Since no time passes in the Wold while we do this, I will ask a few questions. First, What criteria are used for the judging of the test to determine passing or failing?"
"Second, by what authority do you derive yours? Is it authority that you yourselves determined was necessary, or was it granted by another being? If granted by another being, was it done specifically, or did the court take it upon itself by belief of the intent or nature of this being?"
"Third, is there also an opposing court of Chaos? and perhaps one of good and evil?"
Rash's Answer (DM SteveK) Wednesday August 18th, 2010 1:25:57 PM
A small automaton clears its throat (a rather interesting sound given the machine doesn't breathe) and provides a copy of the court transcript to the Myrmarch. The insectoid reads and nods before looking up. "I am reminded that this court was not a normal court proceeding. The recorder will now identify pertinent parts of the previous court session." And with that, the small automaton takes a large scroll and reads...
Chief Judge: "The tally of the Trial of Nature of this group is as follows: One is inclined towards Chaos, two towards Law and four towards neither Chaos nor Law. Six bear the mark of Chaos. By my tally, that is seven for Chaos, two for Law and four for neither." Chief Judge then pronounced "Children of Chaos, your Nature has been found to be Chaotic. Not unexpected, but less than expected."
and from a different part of the scroll...
Chief Judge: "The Court finds that your actions have served both Law and Chaos, though not in equal measure. Still, your actions are sufficient for the Court to find in your favour in the Test of Intent."
"The Trial is now deadlocked. ... You may choose to submit to the Test of Action. ... If you succeed in the Test of Action, the judgement will be in your favour. If not, the Court will find against you."
and in a third place near the end...
Bailiff: "You completed the most important part of the Test as decreed by the Court. The Court's order is sufficient for me." And then the automaton returns to an unobtrusive part of the courtroom.
Upon the conclusion of the read-back, the Myrmarch responds. "Rash of the Children of Chaos, you are correct in the question. Your Trial came in 3 parts. The first is the Trial of Nature which you were determined as agents of Chaos. The second is the Trial of Intent which you were determined as balanced, but more in favor of Law. The third is the Trial of Action where you succeeded in repelling chaos creeping into the gears of Law."
"By gaining favorable outcomes in 2 of 3 Tests, it is likely that this Court will find in your favor. I only say likely as the Court has not officially pronounced this verdict."
"Likewise, to be precise, we use the word 'default' when stating the Court's mandate from Jericho. Not a signed document that can be seen, but the mandate is there. It is real." Sense Motive DC 5 Highlight to display spoiler: { The myrmarch isn't dissembling, he is telling the truth. }
"Finally, your choice was to accept to participate in this trial, or to accept a judgement in abstensia. There is no higher authority than Jericho, and this court is bound to make judgement on those who threaten the laws of Jericho in the Wold. A court has to be superior to render a just verdict, as a King judges a Commoner. A court of peers? What a chaotic notion!"
............
Xenia's Answer (DM SteveK) Wednesday August 18th, 2010 1:44:09 PM
The Korylaunt Inevitable responds to Xenia and Kazak. "You are correct that this Court wishes the end of the Southern Continent's Great Migration. Initial judgement was that because the Children of Chaos initiated the Great Migration, you wished to continue and expand the chaos. In this Trial, we have found that you also want to stop the Great Migration, and that this Court can work with the Children of Chaos to make that happen."
"Our plan is simple enough. Bring the Bell and Cube to the Valley of Ahl, which you term the Center of the Southern Continent, and activate both simultaneously in order to stop the Great Migration."
"We had three problems to overcome to make this plan a success. One, we did not have the Bell and Cube in our possession. Two, we do not have the means to activate the Bell. Three, the only means to travel to the Valley of Ahl that has not been cut by the Great Migration's magical chaos is in the Court of Law and being destroyed by a horde of Chaos Beasts that were immune to lawful magics."
"In the course of this trial, this Court in providing the Children of Chaos the opportunity to defend yourselves, has also enabled three solutions. One, you hold the Bell and Cube in your possession. Two, you have the means to activate the Bell through the symbiosis of your Tattoos. Three, you have saved the only portal from destruction and this Court can now use it to send you to the Valley of Ahl."
The Korylaunt pauses, and the Solar picks up the thread.
"The Court anticipates that there are those who wish for the Wold to devolve into constant chaos. These creatures have access to the Valley of Ahl because of the changing nature of all other entryways. It is my speculation that great forces are arrayed in the Valley as the source of the chaotic power and that you will immediately be assaulted upon crossing the portal from the Court of Law to the Valley of Ahl."
"After the verdict, the Court will support the Children of Chaos by activating the portal and sending in a first wave of fighters to clear a space and give the Children a fighting chance to make it to the Center of the Valley."
Torgon's Answer (DM SteveK) Wednesday August 18th, 2010 1:57:23 PM
The Pit Fiend sneers and rolls his eyes at the minotaur as if can't believing his stupidity, but answers with calm deliberation, twisting each word like a lash.
"First, The Trial of Nature criteria is the weighing of your soul. The Trial of Intent criteria is the mitigating and extenuating circumstances of "why" you did your actions. The Trial of Action was destroying or not destroying the Chaos Beast immune to all Lawful-aligned attacks."
"Second, the Court's authority is derived by the Jericho, granted specificaly but verbally, which is why the Chief Judge said "derived". I wouldn't use so puny a word, but there you have it. Specific. Grant."
"Third, No."
There is a pause, then the Myrmarch begins to speak, explaining the fiend's short reply.
"A Court is set with laws and procedures, the very opposite of a chaotic nature. Therefore, there is no Court of Chaos set in opposition. In the realm of good and evil, this Court can only speculate, however our collective considered opionion is that this is also no. That 'good' and 'evil' is set by the Jericho as the pervue of the Dieties and Powers."
The Verdict (DM SteveK) Wednesday August 18th, 2010 3:28:51 PM
The Myrmarch looks a little perturbed at the assumption that the Court will assist the Children of Chaos before the verdict has been read. In order to remove that irritation, the Chief Judge speaks.
"It is the verdict of the Court that the Children of Chaos are found NOT GUILTY. By this judgement this Court may support the group in actions to end the Great Migration and absolve all charges past and present. Let it be written."
The formal portion of the Court being over, the Judges and Bailiff are still around for any questions or direction.

Now on to business. I am the battle leader of the Children of Chaos and I would like to talk a few minutes before we go running forward without a plan.
My first question is: What kind of forces do you expect us to encounter in the valley?
My second question is: What or who are you sending to establish a beachhead in the valley and will they be subject to our orders? You also mentioned a first wave of fighters. Will there be a second or more waves?
Finally is there any personal aid you can provide the Children in the form of spell or magic which will help us accomplish this goal which will affect the lives of millions?"
Planning at the Court of Law (DM SteveK) Thursday August 19th, 2010 11:01:06 AM
The members of the Court of Law and the Children of Chaos move out of the Courtroom and begin to swiftly travel to where the Chaos Beast was defeated (the site of the Portal to the Valley of Ahl). As they do, conversation continues.
The Bailiff responds to Kazak. "Actually, you were found guilty in abstensia previously, but the Court granted a Stay of Execution until the matter could be more diligently assessed. The Chamberlain and its team of Inevitables did not remain in the Court to hear the Stay granted, and thus came the attack to execute. Unfortuneate, since if the Chamberlain were successful, then it and its team would have come to trial at the Court of Law for failing to adhere to the Stay of Execution."
A Solar, face and appearance muted to not blind others with its radiance, speaks to the task at hand.
"There is no map to the Valley of Ahl that would be of benefit. It is a morphic land, taking unconscious form dependant upon the nature of the Continent itself. With the forces of Chaos loose in the continent and probably guarding the Valley, the land of the Valley could look like anything."
With all Law gone from the Valley of Ahl, the Court of Law has no scouting reports and doesn't know what kind of force are there. I expect only the most chaotically pure enemies to be revelling in the Valley; demons of entropy, undead abonimations, destructive titans, and uncontrolled elementals. The fey may also be in large numbers as they rejoice in the lack of rules and regulations."
"I will lead the beachhead in the valley and it will consist of a select group of Inevitables and Angels. It is my intent that we open the way to the Center for the Children of Chaos to activate Bell and Cube. You do know how to activate them, don't you? We are allies in this, not subordinates, and I will not follow any mortals orders. You may, however, make a suggestion and if I deem it well, I will support.
"My team is the first wave. Your team is the second wave. We have no ability to bring in a third wave as the Portal has limited power."
"Your symbiosis with the Chaos Bell negates any magical aid the Court of Law may provide. We will use our magical sources to strengthen our own assault element to provide you the best chance to get to the Center of the Valley of Ahl."
Xenia (AC29 HP102/102) Thursday August 19th, 2010 12:17:23 PM
The wheels churn in the rogue's head. The cogs align and all toggles and flanges click into place.
"So, hypothetically speaking," she asks, "would the Court of Law be negligent for allowing the Chamberlain and his team from attacking us and destroying Peerimus' grove? From what we saw, the ... Inevitables, had been there in the grove for some time, beating down on Peerimus' friends and such, who were guilty of nothing, before we arrived and they attacked us."
"Couldn't the Court of Law, then, at least be demonstrated as having been negligent by not attempting to contact the Chamberlain with information about the Stay? I hope you don't mind if I find it hard to believe you couldn't have done this given the powers you all got."
"But ... " she shrugs, "that's all hypothetical. What's real and now is this activation of the Bell and the Cube thing. You see, we got some sort of instructions on how to do that, but we're kind of divided on 'zactly what the instructions mean. Durgan asked this question at the Edge of the Wold, and this is the answer he got, word for word."
"' ...the Bell and Cube must be touched at the same time by two opposing aligned heroes ... '"
"That's what we got. That's zactly it. The question is, does that mean some Law Guy needs to touch the Chaos Bell and some Chaos Gal touch the Silvery Cube? Does the Law Guy touch the Cube and the Chaos Gal touch the Bell? Or, does it matter, just as long as they guy and gal are Law and Chaos?"
"You see the problem? And, when you consider that we may not get more than one chance to do this, I think you see where things can get sorta touch-and-go. What do you think needs to be done?"

He casts a side look to Xenia, a point well made, but Peerimus thought better of pressing it now. When this was finished, perhaps he would petition the Court in that matter. the druid files away the well laid arguement.
Addressing the Solar, "And as the second wave, how long will this beachead take to be successfull." Odd phrase, he just staed the land was unknown, how or why identify part of it as a beach. The druid lets the thought pass. "Are there any iherent dangers in simply trying to survive the Valley that you know of. As a being of Law are you physically or mentally weakened or hurt from simply stepping across the portal?"
"To the activation I believe we do have that. We are the Heroes. Our group consists of those of Law and Chaos as the Court knows. We take the bell and Cube to the center and Durgan touches the Cube while Xenia touches the Bell.

Planning at the Court of Law (DM SteveK) Friday August 20th, 2010 10:02:13 AM
The Bailiff looks at Xenia with a little respect about her argument, but the Solar dismisses her thoughts. "The Court of Law's jurisdiction is the laws that bind the Wold into a reality from the thoughts of Jericho. The Court is not answerable to you, but to the Jericho, and to him the Court must make amends, if any."
"As to the damage done in the Grove prior to the arrival of the Children of Chaos, remember two fold. First, the Chamberlain and its team did not but defend themselves from attacks by the druid's forces, and used no violence excessive to thier mission as they saw it. Second, they are all no more, and thier punishment is now in the realms of the gods, powers, and the Jericho."
.........
Answers come back from various members of the Court of Law assault team.
- give us but 30 seconds on Wold Time before sending in the second wave, the Children of Chaos. That will give us the maximum ammount of time to engage the enemies attention without beginning to lose the element of surprise.
- it is as the druid says; a Chaotic hero with a Tattoo must touch the Bell at the Center, while a Lawful hero without a Tattoo must touch the Cube at the Center in the same instant.
- the Center should be obvious, as it is the nature of the Valley of Ahl.
- The Court of Law will not suffer effects from the Valley itself, for as we arrive, our presense will bring order to the land. The chaotic forces will contest our arrival, of that we are certain.
.....................
Arrival at the Portal, the Angel/Inevitable assault team begins to cast spells to buff up. The Bailiff nods, indicating the Children of Chaos should do the same.
Xenia (See AC Notes Below, HP102/102) Friday August 20th, 2010 10:38:42 AM
The girl rogue shrugs. "Power is what power does," she comments. "In the end it's the same as being answerable to yourself."
"Someday I wanna know about that Cube, though," she says as she drinks down an Elixir. "These Chaos Guys talk lots about the Bell. Sounds like it goes way back with them. Elfie Trace could tell you a lot about that Bell Thingie."
Boots. Rings. Then a couple of potions.
And through this all, she adds.
"Bet that Cube's got a story too. Sure would like to hear 'bout it. After this is all over, that is."

"That is an arrogant and short sighted answer that is flawed at its foundation. The Chamberlain attacked and nearly destroyed a sentient creature. The whereabouts of others that were present is unknown. It seems the curse f being naturally mimortal is the same as those that seek and obtain immortality."
Peerimus shakes his head, "I now no longer sure whether I am angry with or whether I feel sorry for you."
The druid changes gears into accomplishing the task at hand. "The most important thing is to get Xenia and Durgan to the center."
"30 seconds is not much time, 5 spells. I have Wind Walk, but it would be dangerous as it takes nearly a minute to regain normal shape. Through ShapeChange Yorrick and I could come out instantly and establish a position in the center, while the rest of you reform. Our movement to the center might leave most enemies behind. I too have Freedom of Movement and will put one on myself and Kazak."

Preparing Spells at the Portal (DM SteveK) Sunday August 22nd, 2010 8:44:31 PM
The Children cast spells readying themselves for battle. The angels and inevitables also prepare themselves with spell upon spell to enhance thier prowess and survivability.
The Solar looks upon Peerimus. "If we both survive this confrontation with chaos, I think it would be a good thing to make time and speak of these things. My berevity is only because of the task at hand. You may ask your Quickwood of the nature of his battle with the Chamberlain. The Inevitable made no attack until first assaulted by the treant. Each time when warned away, the tree attacked and was repelled until the Chamberlain was forced to place him in a state unable to continue the struggle. You may see Quickwood as still alive attesting to the restraint shown." The blazing being of goodness and law holds up a hand. "As we have both said, this conversation is better made for a time after the Great Migration is brought to an end."
He looks around. "Is all in readiness?"
- who has the Bell - Kazak has the Cube - Are you ready?
Xenia (See AC Notes Below, HP102/102) Sunday August 22nd, 2010 10:11:40 PM

Preparing Spells at the Portal (DM SteveK) Tuesday August 24th, 2010 12:14:54 PM
Preparations are complete. The Children of Chaos and the assault force of the Court of Law continue to cast spells in the hall of the Portal.
Bare granite walls stretch on to be lost in the ambient light all around, and before everyone is a large arch, a full 50 feet in diameter. To one side is the Bailiff at some strange controls. He pushes a button, and the arch is filled with amber light (identical to the light by the Cube of Law).
Immediately, the Assault element goes in! Five Marut Inevitables are followed by a Korylaunt, two Planetar Angels, and the Solar Angel. As they step through the amber light flashes and they are gone, no scenes are played out on the other side.
30 seconds go by, and the amber light begins to flicker. "NOW!", shouts the Bailiff, "The portal closes, you must go now!!"
Xenia (See AC Notes Below, HP102/102) Tuesday August 24th, 2010 1:24:16 PM
Normally, she would go first. First through triggers the traps. But given the singular nature of her role, she can't afford to risk herself. The girl rogue looks to Peerimus, his form that of a radiant celestial. The second he steps through, she follows.
Transition is ... well, transition. As soon as transit is complete, as soon as there is the feeling of release, free movement, Xenia rises straight up into the air.
She'll be eyes while she can. From the height of her position, Xenia reports of enemies, allies, and terrain as far as her sharp eyes can see.

"Keep moving. Start heading for he center!" she barks
A phenomenal cacaphony of sound and energy buffets the heroes as the portal shudders and collapses! Energies tear at the heroes, a metaphysical battle to get the heroes to the Valley of Ahl. The terrific forces contending in the Wold in and around the Southern Continent strive with the explosion of suns and winds from the sygian depths. Energy is consumed and spent and whips around the heroes, stripping spells well laid on. It bypasses all spell resistance, that protection being meaningless to the limitless powers fighting in the Portal!
Yet there is no feeling of flight or travel or any distance. In the blink of an eye, the heroes were there and now they are here. Yet many spells have ceased.
Kazak: Freedom of movement - dispelled Mirror image - dispelled Good Hope - dispelled Shield of faith - dispelled Shield of Law -Rash - Saved! Fly- Firngaer - dispelled pass without Trace - dispelled
The heroes find themselves on a lightly wooded plain. Behind them is the ruined Portal, its light extinguished and with it the knowledge that there is no escape or reinforcement from that direction.
In the field in front of the heroes are six Marut Inevitables, each facing outward and casting Walls of Force to keep away the hordes of small monstrosities that cover the rest of the Valley.
The two Planetars hover above the battlefield, one lashing out with spells and another locked in combat with a Marilith; a large flying six-armed sword-wielding woman with a snake's body.
No one easily sees the Solar or Korylaunt, but beyond the continuous Walls of Force, swarms of celestial summoned beasts fight with even more demons.
Within the Walls of Force, the Court of Law's assault force has so far kept it relatively clear. The only enemy clearly seen are 2 Marilith's and a Balor that have just teleported into the cleared space.
One of the Marilith's looks around fast and points to the Children of Chaos. "Mrxilithion! Azalithana! There they are. Kill them and this continent will be ours!"
The second Marilith bares her fangs and swords. "Then Azalithana will bathe in thier mingled blood in the dawn of the demons!"
And beyond the demons, an amber cube of ground stoically resists an ever-changing circle of colors and textures. Beyond a doubt, this is the Center of the Southern Continent.

The problem now is the Bell. No time to regret the loss of spells. First thing would be to get to the far side of the field - and fast. But now, with Peerimus no longer in his Big Celestial Guy form, he can't pick up the Bell.
Best thing to do now would be to stay alive. Xenia whispers to her ring and her form begins flickering between this place and the Gray Lands.
"How we gonna get the Bell all the way over there now, Peerimus?" she asks. "Can anyone 'port us over there?"

Peerimus feels the magic pull away, the power is undeniable and he hopes that it is not opponents on the far side of the portal in possession of such power. The Bell strikes the ground as the druid is no longer able to hold onto it in the slightest. "I have another such spell Xenia." and with that Peerimus casts ShapeChange and resumes the angelic form. [Cast ShapeChange Form of A Planetar]
A grunt sends Yorrick up to guard and keep pace with Kazak
"Engage those three and Durgan, myself and Xenia will move on towards the center." he says to his friends.

Reminder for combats...
- need to have you identify where you are on the map ( B,26) (C,20 / D,21) If you don't tell me where your hero is, I'll have to guess, and no complaints.
- I like the heroic feel of battle. If I have to guess, I'll do the best I can with positioning given a reasonable understanding on the battle
- LOTS of stuff going on in a high level battle. Be gentle on the reminders (and I know there will be ones since I'm human)
- If we're not having fun, we're not doing this right. Tell me and I'll change to support. :-)

EndGame rd 2 (DM SteveK) 20d6=72 ; Friday August 27th, 2010 3:15:47 PM
Xenia begins Blinking, worries about how to carry the Bell, and keeps pace with Peerimus.
Kazak marches towards the center of the southern continent, growling "follow me" to the others.
Peerimus is not worried about holding the Bell, merely casting another ShapeChange to resume the angelic form.
A grunt sends Yorrick up to guard and keep pace with Kazak.
Durgan is right behind Peerimus, ready for a scrap.
Rash quickly recasts both longstrider (lesser quicken) and a magical vestment to bring her armor back up.
Torgon casts Righteous Might, and a quickened Divine Favor, then shoves his Rod in his belt, offering advice. .................. The assault force from the Court of Law continues to battle the hordes of chaos all around them.
At one time, all six Walls of Force come down from Greater Dispel Magic spells somewhere in the throng of demons. The Maruts are up to the challenge, replacing the walls with new ones before the demons have gone a single step. However, the walls are a little closer together, and one Marut was forced to place his Wall of Force behind him... He is quickly surrounded by demons!
Beyond the Center, a furious battle is being fought, and it is obvious that the Court of Law is losing. The two Planetars at the arch both Teleport into the center of that fray.
It is evident that the Children of Chaos are running out of time!!! ..........................
The demon wreathed in fire and carrying a whip and sword made of smokey fire laughs at the arrival of the Children of Chaos. He casts a spell (Spellcraft: DC 23 Highlight to display spoiler: {FireStorm} and sheets of fire erupt around the heroes near the archway. The flames cover so much ground that it affects the two nearby Marut Inevitables as well as a number of demons climbing over the walls. Durgan, Peerimus, Firn'gaer, Torgon, Xenia, and Rash take 72 Fire damage, Reflex DC 26 for 36 damage
Azalithana gives a cackle of glee and surrounds Durgan and Yorrick in a whirling Blade Barrier, and then moves forward, slicing the air with 6 sharp swords.
The other Marilith creates another Blade Barrier in front of the group. "The hordes of chaos will overwhelm you, and then we shall be free!"
Xenia (See AC Notes Below, HP102/102) d20+28=46 ; Friday August 27th, 2010 4:09:25 PM
The ground explodes in fire. Xenia leaps up at the first sign of flames, pulling her legs up under her and turning in a summersault that would eventually land her back down into pyre into which the ground has been turned were it not for the word that she speaks activating her flying boots. Her downward fall is halted, suspending the girl rogue in mid-air, untouched by the flames.
"We going now, Fernie?!?" she calls above the crackling roar of the fire storm. "Peerimus? Go! I can keep up! Ain't no blade wall stoppin' me."

EndGame rd 3 (DM SteveK) Monday August 30th, 2010 5:30:44 PM
A plan is hatched, and the heroes spring into action!
Firn'gaer is flamed, but grabs Durgan and Xenia and Dimension Doors to just before the altar. The land, however, doesn't allow the gnome to magically move all the way to the Center; there is a barrier! Instead of transporting directly to the Center, Firn'gaer, Durgan, and Xenia are just to the west of the swirling colored circle that borders the Center. Firn'gaer's phenomenal skills in spellcraft allows him to see the problem... an Anti-magic Shell!. The chaotic nature of the land has even warped that magic, shifting the spell away instead of making it impossible to arrive.
Lhari still lays down a Wall of Force to close off the heroes from the demons.
Xenia, ready for Firn'gaer's spell, leaps and avoids the magical flames, gets 'ported to the Center, and then flies into the Circle, promptly losing her flying abilities when crossing the barrier of the circle.
Torgon gets hit with the fire spell, but manages to avoid the full force of the spell. The minotaur grabs Peerimus and teleports. The minotaur's magics encournter the same barrier as Firn'gaer did, and the two heroes appear just in front of the swirling chaotic Center.
Peerimus twists away from the worst of the Firestorm, then sets up a movement to the Center. The druid waits for Torgon to cast the teleport spell. Upon his immediate arrival, Peerimus casts Shambler creating 3 of the monsters from the chaotic landscape, and they attack the closest Marilith without success (AC is 33). Peerimus then takes a step towards the Center and all the magic around him is suppressed. The Bell is too heavy for the non-magical druid to lift, and it thuds into the ground!!
Rash rolls away from the firestorm and looks for a way to distract the demons from attacking the others. Casting a Quickened divine power which activates her contingency righteous might, Rash dimension doors over to defend her comrades.
Kazak and Yorrick are surrounded by a Blade Barrier and all the others have magically moved to the Center. They look to be stuck. ................. The assault force from the Court of Law continues to battle the hordes of chaos all around them.
Again, four of the six Walls of Force held by the Maruts buckle and fall from Greater Dispel Magic spells somewhere in the throng of demons. Once again, the Maruts take instant action, obviously ready for this tactic. Five new Walls of Force are emplaced (the one Marut surrounded by attacking demons not having the opportunity to cast spells) With only five walls, the shape is changed, and in order to keep out the rampaging horde, Durgan and Yorrick are left out of the zone of safety!
Beyond the Center, a furious battle is being fought, most of the summoned creatures are gone, and the Solar, two Planetars, and Korylaunt strive to keep chaos from coming over the walls.
It is evident that the Children of Chaos are running out of time!!! .......................... Mrxilithion the demon of flame and shadow glares at the heroes beyond Lhari's Wall of Force and an instant later arrives, standing beside Torgon! "The Chaos Bell is mine!", it laughs while flames come out of its mouth, "look on me and dispair!"
Azalithana the Marilith shrieks at her prey getting away and also teleports towards the Center, her swords covering any movement by the heroes.
The other Marilith, Treeniazlix, who has been calling the shots for the others, treats Rash with a venomous glare. "You are of little importance, man-thing. I will deal with you later." And it, too, teleports, but to the far side of the Center.
A Vrock gets by the Planetars and swoops down to attack, but Torgon's chain whips out again and again and again, reducing the demon to ichor and falling body pieces.
................. Balor (Mrxilithion) AC 42 (Unholy Aura, Flaming Body) Marilith (Azalithana) AC 39 (Align Weaponx6, Magic Weaponx6, See Invisible, Unholy Aura) Marilith (Treeniazlix) AC 37 (Align Weaponx6, Magic Weaponx6, See Invisible, Unholy Aura)
Effects.... The Center has a permenant Anti-Magic Shell: any within the circle or cube have no magics.
Xenia (See AC Notes Below, HP102/102) Monday August 30th, 2010 6:02:14 PM
"Alright! You got the Bell here, step out!" Xenia cries at Peerimus even as she steps up to the bell with Snake Girl just right over her shoulder. "Step out and beat 'em down!"
"C'mon, Durgan!" The Dark Rogue holds her hand up, ready to touch the bell. "Get in through to the Law part and touch the Cube!"

Xenia steps up to the bell and holds her hand up, ready to touch the bell at the same time Durgan will touch the Cube.
Durgan moves up next to Xenia, and gets out the cube, touching the artifact of Law as Xenia¡¦s hand comes down to touch the Bell, and¡K Nothing happens.
Peerimus quickly assesses that the heroes need to get the Bell and Cube to the exact Center of the Center. As he grabs the Bell and pulls with all his might, he lets down his defense and the Balor strikes! A flaming whip snakes around Peerimus¡¦ body, and the druid is jerked away from the Bell, and against the Balor¡¦s body. The flames are snuffed and have no effect until Peerimus is drug away from the magical circles in the Center. Then, Peerimus is again a Planetar and the Balor¡¦s flames surround them both! (AOO: 31, Entangle:27 Damage: 8 ; Peerimus has all magical protections when Balor flame is about him for 17 more damage)
Yorrick moves in tight circles, eyeing the horde about him and readying to rend the first frightful face close to him.
Firn'gaer creates a Wall of Stone to block the Balor, running from the Marut¡¦s Wall of Force to just in front of the first Marilith (ie 30 feet), and does so without giving the Marilith the opportunity to hurt him, too!
Kazak ponders whether he and Yorrick should charge thru the barrier. Right now, there is the Blade Barrier, 5 feet, and a 15 high foot Wall of Force between the hero and his friends!
Torgon takes a quick glance and sees that he can¡¦t move the Bell with the Wall of Stone in the way, and so strikes at the Balor, striking through its smokey protections once. And when he does so, Torgon feels a weakness coming over his muscles! Torgon Save Fort DC 26 or take -4 Strength!
Rash turns and bumps into the wall of force, cursing she casts a quickened divine favor with her lesser rod and teleports next to Torgon ready to lash out at the balor next round. (ooc: and how can I improve that description? ļ)
.................
The assault force from the Court of Law continues to battle the hordes of chaos all around them.
The Maruts continue to strive in keeping the lesser demons at bay, now only keeping up 3 Walls of Force and one other Marut striking flying demons with a Greater Dispel Magic.
Beyond the Center, a furious battle is being fought, most of the summoned creatures are gone, and the Solar, one Planetar, one Marut, and the Korylaunt strive to keep chaos from coming over the walls.

Mrxilithion, the demon of flame and shadow, laughs at the three mighty heroes about him. ¡§You truly think you are a match for me!¡¨, he says in gleeful wonderment. ¡§But you are nothing compared to my power!¡¨ The Balor lifts his flaming sword and strikes out at Torgon, hitting twice! AC 45, 34, 35, 29 Dam 18, 17 = 35 Damage to Torgon.
And then a Quickened Telekinesis is cast, twisting Rash¡¦s sword from her hands. (Telekinesis disarm attack AC 48. Sword is on ground.)
And Peerimus is still encased in the dreadful flames of the Balor. [b]Peerimus take 24 flame damage
Azalithana the Marilith shrieks and walks into the circle. Her magical protections drop, but she is still a Large six-armed demon. Her swords lash out at Durgan and Xenia! Durgon gets one sword and a tail. AC 43, 31miss, 33, 19miss and 38 Dam 14, 14, 16, and 20 = 54 on Durgan
Xenia is attacked by five more swords! AC 38, 27miss, 38, 40, 37 Dam 14, 13, 8, 8 = 45 on Xenia

Peerimus shrugs out of the entangling whip through his Freedom of Movement activates his Boots of Speed and lashes out at the balor with his magical Staff, striking the demon once. The Unholy Aura of the balor seeks to weaken the druid! Peerimus Fort DC 26 or lose 4 STR
Durgan frantically attacks the marilith in front of him, trying to drive it back, but does not hit even once.
Kazak activates his Tattoo's magical ability of flying and streaks towards his friends. He is only 20 feet from the Wall of Force barrier keeping the chaotic hordes out!
Rash resists the Balor's telekinesis and lays into the demon, but the armor and magic of the Balor resists every blow!
Torgon shakes off the effects of hitting the Balor, and feels the pain as it rips into him. He wants to attack the Marilith holding the Chaos Bell, but Firn'gaer's Wall of Stone is in the way. Instead, the minotaur takes a 5' step away from the Balor (pushing the gnome out of the way), and lashes out at the Marilith engaging Durgan and Xenia, striking once!
Xenia ignores the Marilith attacking her and instead concentrates on the Bell. She leaps between spinning blades and snaps her bow into her hand. Hitting the ground outside of the swirling chaos anti-magic area, she looses a quick arrow which knocks the Bell from the demons hand!
Firn'gaer defensively casts Horrid Wilting, and the Balor is wounded, though not by much. The chaotic nature of the landscape and anti-magic field has a weird effect on the Marilith that is half in-half out of the area; her Spell Resistance is suppressed, but she is still affected outside the anti-magic as normal! The effect is devastating to the Marilith, who takes the full brunt of Firn'gaer's spell! Ooc: Anti-Magic: Should a creature be larger than the area enclosed by the barrier, any part of it that lies outside the barrier is unaffected by the field. .................

OoC Note: Xenia's position is incorrectly unchanged on the map. I'm playing her from BC50 per previous post. Question: Are those AC's for the Marliths with magic protection? Shouldn't they be nullified in the Anti-magic?

The Marilith's in the anti-magic only have an AC of 32, no spell resistance, and no damage reduction. I've changed thier AC and damage. Rash is a bit surprised that her blows fail to connect and asks the powers forgiveness for her arrogance. She does a quickened greater dispel magic on the Balor hoping to bring down some of his defenses.
(ooc Steve, I rolled 4 rolles for dispelling effect: highest level spells go first. 37,35,29,27 Let me know if you need any more rolls.)
Rash then lashes into the Balor once again doing a power attack but tempering it back a bit to try and penetrate the defenses.
Rash feels the Powers laughing at her as her blows seem to slide off the Balor, most likely only scoring one hit. Hit ac 49 for 49 points of damage
For some reason, Rash decides to hold off on the witty comments this time!

Active Spells: Fly (17 minutes), Wall of Force (13 rounds)
Xenia again knocks the Chaos Bell from the Marilith's hands, but begins to worry... she knows she can't continue this indefinitely before the hordes overwhelm them.
Rash casts quickened greater dispel and dismisses Mr. X's Unholy Aurabefore unleashing her attacks, striking once.
Kazak's vantage point allows him to fly over the walls of force and charge the Marilith! As he passes over the Center, his flying ability fails along with all his other magical damage and protections. Outside the Walls of Force, the Solar, Planetar, Marut, and Korylaunt are keeping chaos from coming over the walls.

Mrxilithion, the demon of flame and shadow, laughs again, concentrating. "You think that can work on me? You must try harder, like a delicious BLASPHEMY!" Letting go of all her swords, she grabs the Bell with three pairs of hands and uses her body as cover against the irritating Xenia. As she pulls in the Bell to herself, it moves across the threshold from chaos circle to the stable amber of the Center. Immediately, the Bell tolls, a sound like the cracking of the Wold!
Treeniazlix vibrates like a bell herself, and the demons' entire body is covered in the Broken Spiral motif. A scream of joyful pain cuts through the tolling of the Bell and the sky above the embattled Valley gapes open in a multi-faceted scenery. Scores of demons are swept up, up, into the sky to disappear through a window that looks like a sea of tall grasses.

Without waiting for the results, Xenia leaps back into the Anti-magic zone, executing a twist and a corkscrew turn.

Rash falls to the ground weakened and suddenly stiff all over.
Torgon is unaffected by the Balors Blasphemy thanks to Rash's spell, and he takes a massive swing against the demon, shattering Azalithana the Marilith and dispersing everyone with droplets of black ichor! Xenia, seeing as perhaps her only chance, reaches out and touches the Chaos Bell. The Bell begins to sparkle in a fantastic spray of lights. Xenia leaps for joy and taunts the flaming demon over Firn'gaer's Wall of Stone before creeping to the edge of the wall to see what tricks she can get into.
Kazak grips his sword and stands (move action). He can't get out of the anti-magic area by moveing towards the Balor because of Firn'gaer's Wall of Stone, and so the dwarf moves as fast as he can around the stone wall, not quite getting out of the anti-magic field. (getting up from prone is a move action + move action = no swing this round)
Peerimus casts Defensively and the druid warps himself with a Stonskin spell. He steps 5' around to begin to set up a flank with Kazak.
Durgan gets up, and picks up his axe continuing his defensive stance, ready to defend them from any demons if need be.
Torgon stands and barely misses the Balor, Mister X.
And the rest of the demons start fading away. The last one to go is Mrxilithion, still full of fight. He howls in impotent anger as his sword passes harmlessly through Torgon. Insubstantial, it is drawn back to the Lands of Unrest. "You may have stopped all my horde, but my slaves are out in the Wold. And one has the marks of Chaos stolen from you. You have delayed my triumph, not destroyed..."
And Mr. X is gone. .................
The assault force from the Court of Law is 3 Maruts and the one Solar Angel. All the others are dead. Between the mighty outsiders, they are able to end the Paralysis on Rash and Firn'gaer.
The light from the Chaos Bell and the Cube of Law in the Center of the Valley continues to spread and encompasses the entire Valley of Ahl. The immediate danger is ended, the heroes victorious!

"Hey! Come back here!" Xenia had just whipped an ebony wand from her magic bag and thrust it in the direction of Horn Demon Guy. But ... what do you do when winning takes the bad guys away?
"We did it!" The rogue kicks her feet up one at a time, each coming up over her head one after the other as she turns a one-handed back handspring. Rising up out of her enthusiastic gymnastics, the dark girl turns her green eyes to the light that rolls away across the Valley of Ahl.
"Wonder if they left any good stuff?" As the healing light centered on Momma Rash takes her in, Xenia raises a gloved hand to shield her eagle eyes as they scan the nearby terrain.

Hearing Durgan, Peerimus can't help but crack a small smile. When was it not time for drinks to that one? He turns to the group, "Well said Durgan and Kazak. We do have some remaining business. What do we do with the Bell and the Cube?"

The Cube of Law and the Chaos Bell continue to be encased in thier melded energies in the anti-magic area in the Center of the Valley. In fact, the light/sound show slowly expands until it is a half-sphere enclosing the entire Center.
Rash and the Angel does some healing, Xenia does some searching, Durgan and Kazak are ready for some celebrating, and Rash and Peerimus do some speculating.
All heroes and Law allies are at full hit points.
Xenia finds the light/sound show of the two artifacts has pushed out all items that were left in the Center and she can easily grab up six long swords of various styles, a ring, and a necklace.
There isn't any food or drink in the area, but that doesn't stop Durgan from getting a small keg of ale from a pocket...
And it takes very little experimentation for Peerimus, Rash, and the rest of the Children of Chaos to discover that the druid's tentative plans will need to be altered.
1- The Cube and Bell are surrounded by an epic-level Wall of Force that is just inside the epic-level Anti-Magic Field. Nothing short of a Power is going to be able to touch either artifact for a long, long while.
2- Every hero is now missing thier Chaos Tattoo. They are all free of the Chaos Bell!
Xenia (See AC Notes Below, HP102/102) Sunday September 12th, 2010 6:59:20 PM
"Well, this is all I got."
The girl rogue lays upon the ground the few things of value that her eyes have been able to discern. "Maybe one of you Magic Guys can give us some idea of what the stuff does."
"Hey ... looks as though things have come sorta peaceful here all on its own. I mean, like, balanced, you know." And, for the first time, it sinks in what the Horn Demon Balor Guy said before he lost his grip and faded out.
Gone. Xenia looks down at her hand. It's gone. It's off her. Not just lost, but with the Bell now locked here with the Cube, maybe now it's gone for good. Maybe this is it. Maybe this is the end. All her responsibilities as a chosen Chaos Guy are maybe all disappeared. Maybe now she can go home.
Despite her thoughts though, Xenia frowns. "I guess you'll be wanting to go after Snake Girl next, huh? Her what got all our tattoos." The dark rogue sighs.

Torgon is aware of Xenia's desire to be free of her obligation to chaos, and the turmoil that the loss of the tattoo must be causing her.
"Yeah Xenia, we will need to go after the Marilith. But she is not such a fierce enemy that we cannot handle it short one. Perhaps my arrival here was the Gods way of saying it was time for you to do as you wish. Your choice, but I would respect your decision either way, and be happy for you either way, and I'm sure everyone else will also."
"Aside from that, my draw from the deck allows me to know the answer to my next dilemma. If that dilemma was knowing where to find someone important to you, then I would consider that a good use of the deck. Either way, it's your choice but I stand behind your decision."
After a moment, Torgon breaks the moment, and leaves Xenia to her thoughts. "Durgan, got enough of that ale for a Minotaur? I am awful thirsty, and I believe I owe Rash a drink for her spell that saved my rear from the Balor."

Peerimus AC 25 HP 146/146 and Yorrick AC 41 HP 160/160 Monday September 13th, 2010 10:56:11 PM
Peerimus gives Yorrick a great hug as the bear comes alongside him and nearly or rather completely bowls over the much smaller human. Somewhere through the fur and freindly mauling Peerimus manages "Good to see you too friend." Eventually finding his feet, the druid casts a look at the Bell and Cube. That appears to be settled.
Peerimus regards his friends, his family really, as they each come to terms of the tattoo no longer being part of thier lives. Thier reaction is as he expected, most saw it as nothing more than a curse a level of control. For his part, he was unsure how to process it abscense. It had been with him, a part of him, whispering in his dreams for his entire life. It had propelled him to greatness both in personal power and i his affect upon others and the good of the Wold. In a way he flet as if he had lost a part of himself, it would take time to adjust, to see his new course.
For now though, "The demon cannot be allowed to roam our world. Xenia, my offer to take you home is as always open for the asking."
Looking to the Solar, I believe the Wold is righted and it was time we were headed home."

Rash also absently rubs the place where the tattoo was last located. She squints and tries to beam to the others, Hey can anyone hear me? wondering if the power is still with them. She also tries to feel the other children through the status spell the tattoo gave.
Rash moves over to the angel and says, "Thank you for your assistance in this. I know you have lost comrades and friends in this struggle and they have my gratitude, respect and prayers. What happens now? It seems my friends will seek out the demon that got away, but I wanted to make sure that we have succeeded in stopping the great migration."
Rash stops to stare at the two artifacts contending with each other. "Powerful forces know that they are here. I doubt we have seen the last of Mr. X. Are they safe? Will you place guards?"
Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180 Tuesday September 14th, 2010 8:16:37 AM
Torgon sees everyone checking on their missing tattoos, but since he has only had his a short time, it's loss does not bother him.
What concerns him more is the symbolism behind it's disappearance. The tattoo was placed there as a sign that he needed to seek out the CoC. Now that it is gone, does that mean his job is ended, and he should return home....Most likely, a choice left to him. Killing bad guys, stopping bad things from happening, saving the Wold... Going home and settling down no longer seems like such a great idea. "Good friends, lots of fighting, and a world of new things to see. That sounds more fun." He thinks to himself.
"I'm agreeing with Rash. We got the better of Mr x, and he's not gonna like that too much. He'll be looking to get even, and trying to help out his runaway Marilith."
Xenia (See AC Notes Below, HP102/102) Tuesday September 14th, 2010 10:30:56 AM
"Thanks," Xenia nods to both Peerimus and Torgie Minotaur. "I'll help you find Snake Girl. But, after that, I'd like it very much if you could take me back to Floating City. I'll start there looking for Wynn."
"And thank you, Torgie." The girl rogue reaches out to place a gloved hand upon the minotaur's arm, so large, and nearly at head-height to her. "But that card draw was a once a life-time thing for you - for us all. I'm greatful that you're thinking of me. But you should use it for you. Maybe to help your people. They need a home of peace and safety. I'll find Wynn. Someday."
"In the meantime ... " The girl rogue rounds on the big Celestial Angel Guy, switching to her very business-like manner. "Anything you can tell us about Mister Mxyzptlk?" she asks. "You know, Horned Demon Balor Guy? Where does he live? How does he rank? All that stuff. If it comes down to it, I'm figuring, and as much of a high hard as he seems to have for coming into our world, it might just be a good thing to take this fight to his world. Dontcha think?"

The Valley, empty of hordes of demons, is slowly coming under the control of the two artifacts; one of Law, and the other of Chaos. Unseen because of all the demons on the ground, the land was full of small cracks that are now sealing themselves and not moving anymore.
The Solar looks with bright eyes at the mortal Children of Chaos. "Foreseen and unforseen is happening here", says the mighty Outsider. "The artifacts are healing the Valley, and as it is with the Valley of Ahl, so it is with the Southern Continent. This Great Migration is at an end."
The heroes celebrate with a little of the Mountainhome Ale hoarded by Durgan, and speculation runs as to how are they going to get home, and the search for the Marilith that has all the Chaos Tattoos.
So too, does some magical experimentation take place. The heroes find that the Message, Status, and Special Spell abilities of the Chaos Tattoos are gone along with the mark themselves. The heros are well and truely separated from the Chaos Bell that has shaped so much of the group's lives.
The angel continues. "The demon called himself Mrxilithion and Mister X. The Court of Law will look for this one and seek to ensure he does not pass again the border of his realm in the Lands of Unrest. The other demon called herself Treeniazlix and was Teleported by the activated artifacts. She remains loosed upon the Wold. Few are the powers possessed by mortal or outsider that can find thier way to this Valley unaided by Power or Diety. While we will watch we will not guard this Valley, lest our presence unbalance the stabilization found by the Cube of Law and the Chaos Bell.
I can bring you to the Court of Law, and from there return to your homes at Heranmar. The Court will ever be watchful, but no longer interfere with the Children of Chaos for any transgression previous from this moment in time.
And the Angel and Maruts await the CoC by the Gate to the Valley.

"Yeah, alright. I'm coming." With none of the magic guys seeming too interested in looking at her loot, the girl rogue begins collecting it up again. Each of the six swords she slides into the big compartment of her bag. Though longer than the dimensions of the bag into which they go, each goes in, disappearing from sight. It's a simple trick as far as magics go, for Xenia, the wonder of it never seems to wear off, no matter how many times she sees it.
"Hokay. I'm ready." She shoulders her bag and prepares for the trip back to the Law Court. "Maybe we can get some sorta divination thing going on Snake Girl Tattoo Thief, huh? 'Cept, weren't you saying sump'in 'bout thems being pertected by Powers or Deities?" she asks the Celestial Angel Guy. "Do you think that would, you know, like, hid Snake Girl from a divination?"

Firn'gaer feels mixed about the end of his long journey. The Chaos Mark brought him to the Southern Continent. That beginning feels like so long ago . . . a lifetime ago. He had now found a new adoptive home and new friends. He looks at Peerimus, who surely understands what he is feeling. They have had the mark for so long. What would life be like without it. Perhaps their glimpse into the future will now start to unfold. The gnome wizard would have to see. For the moment, there are other things which need attending.
"I don't know about the rest of you, but I sure could use a large drink, the company of a warm fire and good friends. I believe now is the time to celebrate those who are here and those who have been lost all for the sake of that Bell."
Counting and Inventory (DM SteveK) Wednesday September 15th, 2010 4:47:39 PM
Rash casts Detect Magic and determines the six Large swords are non-magical (rats). The Necklace is also non-magical, but there is a stone within the necklace that is emanating a faint evocation. The Ring gives off a faint abjuration.
Several members of the Children of Chaos wonder what life is going to be like without the Tattoos that have controlled so much of thier lives.
Several more are determined that the next thing to do is to track down and deal with the rogue Marilith.
And several are looking forward to at least a little time checking on their own personal issues; be that family, home, work, or community.
In all of the actions the Children of Chaos want to do, they have to get home first. And so the Angel and Maruts move with our heroes to the Gateway and activate that portal to the Courts of Law. In the portal chamber, they are met by the Bailiff with a staff that quickly transports our heroes to a roadside a quarter mile north of Heranmar.
"You have done a great thing", the Bailiff tells the heroes, "and without the stain of Chaos from the Bell, you are free to continue to perform your just and lawful and good actions to help protect the peoples of this land. The Court of Law has recognized this, and provided a one time stipend to assist you in the support of your good duty. It awaits in the Druid's Grove."
"Not magic, huh?" The slim girl rogue stops suddenly, halting their trip along the road back to Heranmar. "Hey, watch this."
Opening the main flap of her pack she reaches in one at a time, grasping what is within and flinging it out. One by one the swords jump from her pack to land nearby, on the ground. Surprisingly - or, perhaps, not so surprisingly - they happen to fall so that they form a semi-circle with tips pointing inward.
"Hup!"
Xenia performs a forward walk-over, winding up in the center of the hemisphere of blades.
"Ho!"
One by one, she picks them up by the blade and flings it high in the air. One by one, the deadly swords rise up into the air, reach the tip of their arc, and then fall again only to be snatched by the rogue's quick hand and flung back upward. Around and around and around go the swords.
"Hup ho!"
Then Xenia steps out. Raising her hands above her head, she turns and takes a bow.
*sssshK-Thud*sssshk-Thu*Thu*Thu*Thu*THUD*
The six swords drop from the sky and embed themselves in the ground not inches from her back. They form a straight line, three swords to either side of the dark girl as she rises from her bow with a smile.

Peerimus AC 25 HP 146/146 and Yorrick AC 41 HP 160/160 Wednesday September 15th, 2010 10:13:04 PM
Peerimus takes a great deep breath, the fresh air of 'home' fills his lungs. It was very good to be home. He clasps his hands across his chest and gives the Baliff an inclined head. "The Court generosity is well appreciated." The druid turns and is about tos start speaking when Xenia puts on her exhibition of hand coordination. Peerimus stares rather dumbfounded at first, but soon enough a broad grin crosses his face and when the small dark girl stops, he applauds heartily.
Finding a demon whose name or at least assumed name theyknew, and that they had faced in combat should certainly not be overly difficult, but the druid thought sooner would be better than later. The less time she had to fortify and strengthen her position the better. However there was also the prudence of investigaton. It was unknown how much power it was granted by the tattoos and that unknown spoke of caution. Of course, how could one go about determining such things? Peerimus was at a loss, while possessing great gifts of magical powers from boh Mother and Father, the druid really knew very little on the subject in general.
"If the Court has left us a gift, I would suggest we discover what it is and from there we can discuss our next course." Peerimus pauses as if about to continue, but then apparntly thinks differently on the subject and simply smiles sating, "It is good to be home amongst the trees and open air again is it not good Yorrick." The pair begin moving towards the grove

Rash smiles at Xenia's actions and claps but doesn't say anything but, "Bring them along honey, I am sure some of the guardsmen will get a kick out of owning a demon blade. Peerimus, lets check out what the stipend is and then I am for home. I know you want to go demon hunting quickly but I am going to take some time with my family. At least a week. It should give you some time to do some scrying and found out where the beast from hell is. So lets go to your grove and see what is what."

Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180 Thursday September 16th, 2010 9:48:19 AM
"I need to check on things at home. I will rejoin you in a few days. I also wish to make a trip to the catacombs before we go demon hunting. Shall I meet you in Heranmar?"
After Torgon receives his answer as to the meeting spot, he will teleport back to his village.
(OOC: leveled to 19. will adjust cs this weekend.)
Counting and Inventory (DM SteveK) Thursday September 16th, 2010 6:43:37 PM
George: I couldn't give any more or else a hero or two would have gone up 2 levels. :-( What level is Rash right now?
.....................
The heroes go to the Grove and find seven bags of heavy gold coins, each clearly labeled; Durgan, Kazak, Alexandria, Peerimus, Rash, Firn'gaer, Torgon. And each bag has 20,000 coins!
Peerimus is worried about the demon, but Rash and Torgon take thier bags of gold and get ready to Teleport to thier homes.
Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180 Thursday September 16th, 2010 7:51:17 PM
"I can be ready as soon as you need me everyone. You know where my village is, so if you find the Marilith sooner, come and get me. Unfortunately, there is little I can offer in locating the Marilith that the rest of you don't have. My magic use is not quite on the same level as Peerimus, Rash, or Firn'gaer."
Torgon retrieves his marked bag, and looks inside smiling. "My village has no money after being transported here by the great migration, we have never had need of it before now. Now with contact outside our own people likely to become more frequent, this will probably be needed by my people more than by me."
Unless anyone has anything that needs be addressed, or reason for Torgon not to go, he will head home for a short visit before the demon hunting begins. His obligations to his people and his protege still in the forefront of his thinking.
Durgan Stonewall (AC 36/27; HP 270/270) Thursday September 16th, 2010 8:24:57 PM
"Well, I was hopin fer a keg of ale, but I guess this will do eh?" Durgan hefts his sack, and heads for the Heranmar Inn for a drink and to catch up on events with the locals. He plans a visit to the catacombs soon, but needs some ale first. The catacombs service can get slow sometimes.
"That was a neat trick Xenia, wher'd you pick that up?"

Peerimus AC 25 HP 146/146 and Yorrick AC 41 HP 160/160 Thursday September 16th, 2010 11:00:07 PM
Peerimus nods to Torgon and Rash, "Yes of course friends." As Torgon speaks of the coin and his lack f true need Peerimus cannot help but echo the sentiment in his own mind. Perhaps given the week the others were looking for he would think of something.
"One thing we should do is speak with the council and make sure there is no other needs. We could also take some time to speak again with those we have already spoken to about trade and relations to see where such things stand."
Peerimus will start with speaking to the council of Heranmar and from there to Hook city to stop in on the Temple of Mittiri
Kazak Stonewall.Ac 38(Ac 42 vs chaos)Shield of Law (Hp 212/212) Thursday September 16th, 2010 11:30:59 PM

"Week off ... woohoo .... time to rest and relax .... not to mention gettin ready for whats next .... Demon Hunting "
"With little spending money from da Lawful's .....could be a fun week " grins the dwarf
" Come on bro off to da tavern .... i'll even let ya buy me da 1st three rounds " laughs Kazak as he starts to trudge towards Heranmar .....
ooc" woot Kazak hit 19th level ..... almost time to make retirement plans ;-) .....
"It's just sump'in I do in my spare time, Durgan," Xenia calls as she draws the swords one by one out of the ground and inserts them back into her magic bag. "And you know, Momma Rash, I think that's a good idea. In fact, I think I got an even better idea for that."
Returning to town, the girl rogue finds her way to the guard barracks. Once again she performs her feat of juggling, the six blades winding up in the ground behind her.
"Thank you! Thank you!" She answers the applause. "Its nice to see an appreciative audience when you brave the dance of the razor sharp blades. You can see that these weapons all have the bite of danger about them. But, what you may not know is that they were all taken from a six armed demon."
"Yes, that's right. We, the Champions of Chaos, fought a six armed snake woman from the demon planes, and took her swords from her. And right now, I'm going to offer them up to you for whatever you think they're worth. What's more, all proceeds from the sale of these swords will not go to us. No, they will go to the Monastery outside of town. After you win the right to own one of these six Demon Swords, just go to the monastery and donate the price. We won't be collecting, we trust you to donate the price all on your own."
"Do I hear ten silver for this sword? Ten silver? Twenty. Thank you, twenty silver? ... "
After the auctioning of the swords, Xenia swings into Peerimus' grove to see what sort of Stipend the Law Guys might have provided. "That's a lotta klinkies." And yet the rogue's voice is quiet, more thoughtful than enthusiastic. It's strange to lose interest in gold, and the girl rogue reflects upon that for a moment, the weight of the gift from the Court of Law heavy in her arms. Its not so much the gold itself as it is the doing stuff with it that gives gold its worth. Maybe its even the pursuit of gold itself. Doing stuff to get it is far more enjoyable than the simple having after you've got it.
"Um, I'm gonna be working on some magic stuff for a while, 'kay? If you find out anything about Demon Snake Girl, just come get me."
OoC: Xenia will spend 20 days upgrading Gloves of Dex from +4 to +6 and 20 more days upgrading Periapt of Wis from +4 to +6.
