DM Cayzle - A New Day, and a Homecoming Monday August 16th, 2010 7:41:35 AM
The morning is bright and beautiful. The boyish Ahote warriors lead you through the prairie for about a half a day. As you travel, the land gets drier and harder. Soon you are passing not through prairie, but through scrub and badlands. There are exposed patches of dirt and rock. The plants look dry and stunted. You see few signs of insects of other creatures.
There are more washouts, small gullies, the odd canyon to go around. This is the Blasted Land, through which Keela, Jet, and Alexi have already traveled. It is hilly and rocky.
At length, the party rides into hills and down to a valley. It is small -- maybe a thousand feet wide, and a mile long. But it is very different from the badlands. You see many small streams trickling downhill into the valley, There are actual trees, and long stretches of ground next to small brooks on which grow wild barley and emmer.
The Ahote lead you to a village hastily set up of hide tents. When you come near, with your huge beasts of burden and the even heavier burdens they bear, you hear before you see the people of this place. Your ears are assailed by the weeping and crying. The Ahote who have survived here grieve for their dead.
The families of the fallen come to clam the bodies you have brought here.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Monday August 16th, 2010 10:37:33 AM
Jet mourns with the people as he removes the bodies from the mounts. "Bantom, can you ask them who is now in charge, so we can explain to them what we plan?"
Sjurd (AC 17, HP 51/51) Monday August 16th, 2010 11:12:26 AM
Sjurd and Uli remain near the rear of the caravan. The northern druid is well aware that his thoughts on death and dying may provoke strong feelings from the plainspeople.
Alexi (AC: 20/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Monday August 16th, 2010 2:27:45 PM
In the morning, Alexi waits patiently until Jet has finished his ritual prayer time, then asks, "Jet, do you mind asking the gods for a bit of healing for my wounds? Whatever you can spare, considering our trip ahead. At least to keep my wounds from getting infected, would be much appreciated."
As the group pass through the badlands, he wonders if Tarketh would have left the artifact with the Ahote to help in their survival, then shrugs. 'They've survived all these centuries, they'll keep surviving. Besides, if the area looks too green from above, it would just draw unwanted attention. Sigh...'
Alexi helps with the unloading of the dead and when Jet asks Bantom to ask the Ahote who is in charge, Alexi adds, "Also ask them what their custom is for honoring their dead so we can know how to prepare for it and join them."
Keela Tuesday August 17th, 2010 12:17:01 AM
Keela awakens and spends some times studying spells. Her heart aches for the Ahote and all that they have lost, but she maintains a respectful distance unless summoned.
Since it looks as if today will be spent in camp, she prepares an Unseen Servant spell in place of one of her combat spells. Perhaps she can be of some assistance today.
Today's Spells:
0 - Detect Magic 0 - Disrupt Undead 0 - Light 0 - Ray of Frost 1 - Color Spray 1 - Feather Fall 1 - Magic Missile 1 - Unseen Servant 2 - Scorching Ray 2 - Scorching Ray 2 - Web 2 - Extended Alarm 3 - Fly 3 - Haste 3 - Extended Rope Trick
DM Cayzle - Delayed Tuesday August 17th, 2010 8:01:13 AM
Sorry, friends. It will be a midday post today. Too busy!
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:25/25] Tuesday August 17th, 2010 11:08:19 AM
Throughout the day, Garret walks with the group in silence. His mood seems to match the desolate landscape, and this is unlike him. Usually he scampers around, exploring, delighting in seeing and discovering new things. Today he is deep in thought, plodding along. Now and then he peers at the large number of dead, piled high on the beast of burden. He looks at the huge beast and wonders if it has any comprehension of the world around it.
When they arrive at the Ahote camp, he smiles briefly, as he sees the families reunited, even in grief. He watches to see how Jet treats the dead, to see if he needs help preparing them for meeting with the god of the dead. He looks around at the sun, to see how much daylight they have left. He then says to Jet, "Are there additional preparations we need to make before we meet the god of death? Would it be better to rest from our journey first, or should we just be off and see our fate now? I would prefer sooner, rather than later."
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Tuesday August 17th, 2010 12:15:08 PM
Jet tells Alexi, "I would rather wait to see what our destiney reveals, then to use spells for healing, but need them for some test or job Gargul wants us to perform. Sometimes, we have to live with a little pain."
Turning to Garret, "As soon as we talk to whoever Isstaqua left in charge, we will step away from the people and use the scroll to create the portal we will use to meet Gargul."
DM Cayzle - In the Care of the Grandmothers Tuesday August 17th, 2010 2:33:29 PM
Note: Although the Ahote refuge is in the Blasted Lands, this valley looks like it is on its way to recovery. There are young trees here, and wild grains growing near streams. You arrive at the camp after midday, let's say.
Bantom acts as translator, and he relates that there is no one in charge. Indeed, the people seem confused, and aimless, grief-striken and dismayed. But the grandmothers take charge of the bodies, and direct their careful handling and preparation.
They say to Jet and Alexi that they will bury the dead at dawn, and, naked, the slain shall return to their Mother Wold, as naked they came from their own mothers. In this way they will give still continue the sacred mission of the Ahote, which is to rejuvenate and renew this blasted land. They have a place set away from the main camp, under some young trees, that will serve well.
Sjurd and Keela maintain a respectful distance. A few of the Ahote children who remember Keela come up to her and bring her some wildflowers.
Garret is somber, contemplating the coming encounter with the God of Life and Death.
Charek AC 25; HP 47/47: Hasted, Tuesday August 17th, 2010 10:47:45 PM
Charzak carefully watches what is going on with the Ahote.
"Wow, so basically this is a tribe with no leader and many of their men slain and most of their warriors gone as well. Should we ask the people here if they want us to try and bring thier men folk back before we just do it? I would really hate to go ahead with something that they would think was evil or was forbidden by their religion."
Keela Tuesday August 17th, 2010 10:55:54 PM
Keela is touched by the children's offer of flowers. She thanks them, and shows them how to make the flowers into chains, crafting flower necklaces and crowns for the children who want them.
When Charek asks his question, she replies, "We should ask first. We have few enough allies here without making things worse."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:25/25] Tuesday August 17th, 2010 11:41:07 PM
Garret looks over and replies, "Indeed, that is a good thought. We should consider their views. Jet, would you be so kind as to attempt to determine their beliefs in this area? It would be quite horrible if the god of death were to bring their warriors and leaders back, only to have them rejected by their own people."
Sjurd (AC 17, HP 51/51) Wednesday August 18th, 2010 12:00:05 AM
Sjurd and Uli continue their polite vigil outside of the main group.
DM Cayzle - No Objections Are Raised -- Only XP Totals Wednesday August 18th, 2010 7:33:42 AM
After some shock at the idea, it is clear that the people here would be very grateful to have their dead given back to them. Indeed, although the Ahote are not a people to beg, the looks in their eyes tell you all you need to know on that front.
OOC: Since we are coming off a major battle, I'd like to give out some Experience Points. First, recall that hero points were awarded to Zeph, Jet, and Alexi on Aug. 4. Then, everyone please add 1,500 xp to your sheets. Sjurd, sorry, make it 1,000 for yourself.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:25/25] Wednesday August 18th, 2010 11:02:31 AM
Garret nods and turns to Jet, "We trust that you know what you are doing. This is something I have no experience with. We would be honored if you would begin the ceremony and lead us to the other world. Who will speak for us, once we have received and audience?"
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) d20=1 ; d20=8 ; d20=5 ; d100=26 ; Wednesday August 18th, 2010 1:48:15 PM
Jet smiles at Garret. If the little monk knew, jet had no idea what he was doing, they might all cower away from the idea, so he just pretends to know what he is doing.
jet gets with bantom before they use the scroll, "Help these people and protect them if you can. You are a very special creature and it is their magic that gave you the intelligence you have today. remember that."
Going quite a ways away from the camp with the others, jet prepares himself for the scroll.
ooc: I don't have access to the SRD. My boss is kind enough to let me use her work computer. All i really remember is, i need at least an 11 or 12 on the D20 for this to work. Well, a 1 seriously fails, so I will use that brand new Hero Point the DM gave me to try again. Eight fails also, so I will try once more before seeing if the scroll is destroyed or not. Well, five sucks, so now there is a chance it goes really bad and is ruined if i roll low.
Well, crap, two Hero Points later and not only did the scroll fail, it is lost. I forget the rest of what is necessary from here. Jet is willing to take his share of what loot is found to buy one or two more scrolls, one to be used for the Ahote again.
DM Cayzle - A Scroll is Read Wednesday August 18th, 2010 3:01:59 PM
The roll of a 1 is a failure, but a reroll of an 8 with a hero point is not too bad. 8+caster level 4 is a 12, more than high enough to get to the 9 you need to cast the spell. It succeeds, at the cost of a hero point.
After Jet makes a heroic effort to read the scroll correctly, a black gaping VOID opens before him. Who will step through into the Realm of Shadows?
Charek AC 25; HP 47/47: Hasted, Wednesday August 18th, 2010 5:00:05 PM
Ok all I say we all step through as a sign of support and unity, but only one makes the case for the return of the dead or things may get too muddled. Thought? and I would say we need to be quick.
Keela Wednesday August 18th, 2010 5:13:48 PM
[OOC: Coming along and keeping her mouth shut are two of the things Keela does best. :)]
Keela watches Jet struggle with the scroll, and wishes she could help. It's another kind of magic altogether, though, and she's of no more use than the Ahote children in this matter.
When the black void opens up, she gasps in surprise, but steps forward to join her companions on the edge of it. However, she can't quite bring herself to be the first one through...
Sjurd (AC 17, HP 51/51) Wednesday August 18th, 2010 7:49:56 PM
Sjurd walks slowly up to the oval of inky darkness. He crouches down on one knee and examines it, Uli by his side. He reaches down, picks up a small stone, and casually tosses it into the portal. Obviously having no effect, he shrugs his shoulders and stands up. "I have no idea. Perhaps ve could send some livestock through first? Be the, how do you say? Guinea pig?"
Alexi (AC: 20/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Wednesday August 18th, 2010 10:25:27 PM
Alexi, already pretty much on the brink of death, streightens up his fancy dragon embroidered belt, pats his weapons as if they'd do any good, then steps through.
"Follow me, through the blackness Meet Gargul on his throne State our case to return our own."
DM Cayzle - A Gate to be Passed Thursday August 19th, 2010 7:48:24 AM
Alexi steps through. Jet knows the chance to enter is passing. Who else? Will Keela and Sjurd delay and miss the opportunity to meet a god?
Sjurd (AC 17, HP 51/51) Thursday August 19th, 2010 10:03:50 AM
Sjurd and Uli look at each other in a moment of silent communication. Uli turns his head in a question, Sjurd shrugs, and the two of them walk through the dark portal.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Thursday August 19th, 2010 2:20:07 PM
Jet does a better job then expected and steps through to the darkness beyond without hesitation.
His mind is free knowing he will try to bring his friends and allies back to life.
Zeph AC26 (Shield) HP 36/42 Thursday August 19th, 2010 3:18:11 PM
(I'm back from vacation. Cedar Point was freaking awesome... Except when I almost got kicked out for eating in the employee cafeteria. I didn't want to pay 8$ for a piece of processed crap. So, what did I miss? Well, I just ready everything.)
Zeph smiles when the spell is cast and the void opens up. "What are we waiting for?" he says as he steps into the portal, twirling his spiked chain lightly in his hands.
Then Zeph thinks back, Why would Jancassis show me that me and my allies are the ones longing for revenge? I suppose it would make sense because I used the lizards blood as a medium. But usually the spell does not function that way.
(PS. I only need 480 more exp to level 7!)
Charek AC 25; HP 47/47: Hasted, Thursday August 19th, 2010 5:55:35 PM
Charek joins the others and steps through, though he knows not what waits beyond.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:25/25] Thursday August 19th, 2010 8:36:00 PM
In response to Charek, Garret says, "Indeed. I would suggest that Jet begin the dialog, as he is the one that has made it possible to meet this god."
Garret watches to be sure all have entered, and then he will also step through.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Thursday August 19th, 2010 9:58:40 PM
Alexi saunters into the void and gets bumped by Sjurd when he stops, not knowing really where to go or how to meet Gargul.
"Ooops. Sorry Sjurd." He steps further in and ponders out loud, "Do we just yell out We're Here! or what?"
Gimp Thursday August 19th, 2010 10:21:14 PM
The pocket where you seem to have all stepped into is apparently pitch dark. Even Charek can see no farther than his scaggly beard and even heat signatures are just barely registering.
From somwhere about three or feet in the air above and behind you hear a slightly higher pitched voice answer Alexi's comment.
"Oh yeah right. Like that would be considered polite anywhere? I suppose you would like someone to walk into your home and just start yelling. "Hello Honey, I'm Hooooooome!
Now then why are you here and what do you want?"
Keela Thursday August 19th, 2010 11:50:43 PM
Keela also steps through the portal. In the darkness, she whispers, "should I conjure a light, do you think?"
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:25/25] Friday August 20th, 2010 12:45:06 PM
Garret whispers back to Keela, "I guess not yet, after all, we're in someone else's home here."
"Jet? You want to explain to the voice?"
Zeph AC26 (Shield) HP 36/42 Friday August 20th, 2010 12:49:02 PM
Zeph agrees with Garret about the light, "It seems to be intentionally dark here. So it would be rude to undue what has been done."
Then Zeph pats Jet on the shoulder and whispers, "Have at it, holy man." with a smile.
DM Cayzle - Setting the Scene Friday August 20th, 2010 1:15:38 PM
Once your eyes acclimatize to the darkness, you do see details in the dim shadows. For one thing, there are faintly glowing streams, like rivulets of water, but these flow with a red liquid. They are all small enough to step over, if you are careful.
The ground is covered in dry earth, and in the corners of your eyes you think there might be grass, but when you look more closely, you see none.
The sky is very dark, with only slightly less dark patches that might be clouds.
Behind you, a voice has asked, "Why are you here and what do you want?" It would seemthat Jet's friends are more than willing to let him speak.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Friday August 20th, 2010 3:14:17 PM ooc: Well schucks. Google Docs is down and I can't see what his Diplomacy skill is to make a roll. I will be gone this weekend, so if DM Cayzle would like to roll it for me later this weekend, he is welcome to, if he needs to respond Monday before I post again.
"We are here to petition Gargul on behalf of an entire people, to bring back some or all of these peoples warriors, called the Ahote. What we want is to see the end of the subjugating lizard race which has conqured our land and has destroyed a peace that was ejoyed by all in the region until their arrival. I would be happy to answer any further questions you may have on these subjects. Our resolve is steadfast on this mission of mercy, to restore the lives of those massacred by these creatures."
Keela Friday August 20th, 2010 6:43:31 PM
Keela carefully avoids the red streams. She doesn't know what they are, and she feels this is neither the time nor the place for experimenting.
She stays to the back and lets the others speak.
Gimp Saturday August 21st, 2010 12:09:07 AM
The voice from behind you continues to speak. "Ohh so you think you should be allwed to just waltz in here and and automatically have an audience with "His Emminence"?" I think that perhaps you all should..."
His voice is suddenly cut off in mid sentence by a much deeper and more resonant one.
"That is quite enough Gimp." Let them pass and give them a little light please."
Almost immediately it is like dusk around you; enough light to see by, but there are definitely more shadows than light. The red glowing rivulets are definitely flowing and they are flowing quite quickly. None of them seem to be much wider than 3 feet in width and the wider ones do have flat stones in the middle of the flow. When you look closely you can tell that there is a path of sorts that leads off in front of you and apparently leads to a structure of some sort, i the loosest sense of the word. It looks like a group of mismatched collumns arreanged in a circle on top of a low hill. The deep voice seems to be coming from there.
"Please make your way to my audience arena. Then I will hear what you have to ask."
Everyone make 2 reflex saves - DC 12. Anyone who rolls less than that may have an issue getting over the red rivuletts.
Zeph AC26 (Shield) HP 36/42 d20+9=10 ; d20+9=14 ; d20+9=21 Sunday August 22nd, 2010 8:16:26 PM
Zeph stumbles horrifically (Natural 1 on the first reflex save... who woulda thunkit?)
I want to use a hero point to reroll that... unless Cayzle has a really cool thing that happens if we step in Woldsblood... I may want to experience it?
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) d20+2=4 ; d20+7=10 ; d20+7=14 ; Sunday August 22nd, 2010 10:09:12 PM
Alexi squints to see what the creature looks like. Spot d20+2= 4
But the dimness and disorientation of being in a different plane throws him off.
With the path pointed out, Alexi moves forward.
REF DC 12: 1st d20+7 = 10 2nd d20+7 = 14
OOC: Sooo, what happens now?
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) d20+6=19 ; d20+6=10 ; Sunday August 22nd, 2010 11:25:22 PM ooc: Anyone else having troubles with Google Docs? I can't get in to update Jet.
Jet does alright at first, but as they slowly approch where the voice came from, he slips just a bit.
Keela d20+4=24 ; d20+4=15 ; Monday August 23rd, 2010 1:08:41 AM
Keela picks her way delicately, and manages to avoid the rivulets. She does not speak, but her heart is pounding.
[Saves 24 and 15]
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Monday August 23rd, 2010 11:13:04 PM
OOC: I just went in and updated Alexi's Hero Point, and exps. worked fine.
Gimp / Gargul Tuesday August 24th, 2010 6:35:55 AM
As the group moves off toward the collumns, Alexi turns and takes a look at the creature behind you all and even with his bad sight can see that it is a slightly larger than normal Imp, however while turned Alexi's foot slips and the toe of his boot dips into the rivulett of Woldsblood he was about to cross.
Jet too missteps and dips part of a foot into the Woldsblood.
Jet, Alexi Will saves DC 15 please.
Zeph for a moment fears as he literally trips and seems to be headed for a full face plant into a stream when he suddenly manages to arrest his fall and catch himself.
Keela manages to make her way across with no problems.
Without further mishaps the group stands at the to of the hill at the edge of the circle of collumns.
A large muscled humanoid form with black hair stands at the center of the ring. the figureis wearing a dusty well-traveled black robe. As it looks up yousee a strange smile that could easily be mistaken for a grimace. His bearing is once threatening and sad.
He stand gripping a strangely shaped glowing staff in his hands and he seems to be swingin it from the side from above his head down to the ground where it is hitting the glowing white orbs out into the darkness.
There is a chair with a book resting on the seat on the other side of him.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) d20+5=9 ; d20+5=20 ; Tuesday August 24th, 2010 3:01:39 PM
OOC: somehow, a Klingon D7 spaceship seems to fit into the picture...
Will DC15 d20+5 = 9
Spending a Hero point: 6-1 = 5
Will DC15 d20+5 = 20! sweet!
Alexi waits for Jet to see if he'll need help before continuing onward.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:25/25] d20+11=20 ; d20+11=24 ; Tuesday August 24th, 2010 5:20:47 PM
Garret looks around in wonder at the place they have entered. He looks back and looks around, trying to see if there is a way from from where they had come. When directed, he steps quickly and easily over the stones and the strange rivers. When Zeph trips, Garret gasps a moment and is relieved to see he does not fall into the strange liquid.
When the arrive at the top of the rise, Garret continues to look around in wonder and tries to take in all that he can see. He does not step all the way to the front, but instead leaves space for, and gestures to Jet to speak to this being. Garret watches the small orbs fly off into the darkness, looking to see if he can tell where they land.
-----
OOC: Sorry, lost internet there for a couple days. Should be okay now. Reflex checks: 20, 24
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) d20+10=22 ; Tuesday August 24th, 2010 6:07:33 PM
Jet feels odd when his body touches the Woldsblood, but his determination keeps him moving along.
Looking upopn the figure, Jet can't help but recognize, how a god who knows mortals are present, can pretend not to notice.
He looks around. The group has made it to the arena, but now what? Never being one to hesitate on matters, he quite frankly asks, "Permission to approch Your Grace?"
Keela Tuesday August 24th, 2010 10:57:15 PM
Keela watches one of the white orbs go sailing off into oblivion. Was this a battle, or recreation? Did the gods even differentiate between the two?
For the time being, she stays very still and says nothing.
Zeph AC26 (Shield) HP 36/42 Tuesday August 24th, 2010 11:09:47 PM
Zeph approaches the figure of a man and stands there, waiting for him to say something interesting. He studies the person, trying to memorize his features and connect this person with a diety.
God of Death, huh? Well, I can respect anyone who hates the undead as much as the party rogue. Zeph thinks to himself and smirks a bit back at him.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Wednesday August 25th, 2010 2:39:44 PM
Jet attempts to stop Zeph, in a friendly manner and whispers, "Do you really want to start off on the wrong foot? I suggest we put the ball in his court, lest you find yourself like one of those little orbs of light."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Wednesday August 25th, 2010 8:01:32 PM
Garret glances at Zeph, also trying to get him to step back a bit, or at least show some deference to this fellow.
Charek d20+8=12 ; d20+8=25 ; Wednesday August 25th, 2010 10:17:16 PM
Charek has a scary moment as he jumps over one of the wider bands of woldsblood and nearly falls backwards into the stream, but catches himself and falls forward instead. As he climbs the rest of the hill with his compatriots, he takes in gargul and what he is doing and wonders how this is all going to work.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Wednesday August 25th, 2010 10:59:52 PM
Alexi tries to be reverent as he bows to the being.
Zeph steps up and Alexi rolls his eyes. "Good Grief" he mumbles. "So much for all that time wasted on choosing Jet for spokes person."
Gimp / Gargul Thursday August 26th, 2010 7:39:18 AM
The imp capers on ahead of you, dancing nimbly over the rivulets of glowing red liquid. Maybe they are lava, although there is no heat? Maybe they are streams of blood? There is a coppery smell to them, those who come close might report.
The imp also dodges a couple of white orbs that fly from the immortal power's staff, but one orb hits the imp square on the head. "Oof!" says Gimp. From the creature's head, a white light glows outward, making the scene easier to take in, easier to navigate. "Master," complains Gimp, "Hey!"
The strong, imposing man picks up the book from the chair and sits down. He hands the book to Gimp and says calmly, "Now I have a light for reading."
The party approaches, with Zeph and Jet in the lead. Zeph's expression almost mirrors the god's grimace. Jet asks for permission to come near.
The god waves a hand in welcome. "Please, come in, all of you. It is for this that you came, I presume."
"Now, each of you, tell me your name, and why you have come to visit me. Each must speak, if only to declare yourself and agree with another, so that I may take your measure." His eyes are distant, as if he were looking both at you and at the doings of hundreds of other things all at the same time. And perhaps he is.
Zeph AC26 (Shield) HP 36/42 Thursday August 26th, 2010 11:01:13 AM
(OOC: I'm confused. Zeph didn't do or say anything. Why are you behaving as if he began talking or something? What exactly did Jet try to stop Zeph from doing? All I did was walk to the place that was obviously set up for us to walk to, think, and smile. or am I crazy?)
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Thursday August 26th, 2010 11:26:31 AM
Garret watches the orb and the imp with curiosity. When Gargul speaks, Garret quickly steps forward and says, "I am Garret Goodbarrel, of Sole Hill, in the Windbourne Hills. Our group," he gestures at the others, "has been wandering across the lands, trying to stop the flow of evil in the form of lizards set out to upset the balance of the land. In the process, these lizards have run through a group of Ahote people, an innocent people who mind their own business and just want to stay alive. There were a good number of them who were honorable people who were killed for no good reason. Now they leave behind the rest of their tribe and their families without men and without leaders. We fear they will all suffer a long time with so many of their people missing."
He pauses and hesitates a moment before continuing, "We come to you humbly today, to ask that their souls be returned to them. They were innocent of any wrongdoing."
Garret then gives a slight bow, as if confused whether he is supposed to bow, then step slightly back and to the side to allow others to step forward and address the god.
OOC: Sorry, Zeph, I guess I read that part about you approaching him as walking right to him, almost in a challenging manner or something, I dunno.
Gimp / Gargul OOC Thursday August 26th, 2010 1:01:54 PM
Per the DM Post, you are fine, Zeph. No smiting for smiling. You didn't even say anything. No worries.
However, I do strongly urge you and everyone to actually obey the god, now that you have been politely invited to act.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) d20+7=19 ; Thursday August 26th, 2010 3:50:00 PM ooc: Zeph didn't do anything wrong really. Jet asked the gods permission to approch his presence and Zeph didn't wait for an answer before he decided to do so. Jet wanted to stop him in a "friendly" manner, because Jet is being his usual cautious self, since there is no battle imminent. If Jet had thought Zeph did something wrong though, he would have said so in an entirely different manner. :)
Jet steps forward, still bloody and wounded from the night previous, "I am Jet Stormway, a priest to you and all the other gods, showing proper respect where needed and when due. It is as our leader has said. A flying mountain of lizards has caused our land to enbrace their turmoil of conquering and enslaving all those that stand in their path. There is no negotiating with them. They want all the races to be their subjects or destroyed. Their menace is a threat to the Wold and something needs to be done about them now, while they are still in our region. The Ahote were not just my friends, but they were loyal to the Wold, living off the land and embracing the hardships that come from having a nomadic life style. I seldomn fear anything, but at this, I do have a fear that our small group will not succeed in fighting these monsters, without the help of the natives, who even now, will starve without their hunters or worse, become food for Ambush Drakes without their warriors to protect them. Not just an entire people are at stake here, but I believe, the Wold itself is in danger."
Diplomacy: 19
Keela Thursday August 26th, 2010 4:07:01 PM
Keela steps forward and curteys, "If you please, Exalted One, my name is Keela Larch. We have come to ask you to return the souls of the Ahote warriors who fell to the lizards. Their tribe is now without leaders, and without leaders their future is bleak indeed."
Charek Thursday August 26th, 2010 8:24:26 PM
Stepping forward as Keela finishes, Charek drops a sweeping low bow that only dwarves seem to have truly mastered and as he straightens back up speaks.
"I am Charek Headcracker, I am here in support of my compatriots and the Ahote people to ask you to aid them in the manner that seems best to you."
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Friday August 27th, 2010 12:03:30 AM
OOC: Sorry Zeph, sometimes reading quickly we miss small details, like, [Zeph thinks to himself and smirks a bit back at him.]
Alexi steps forward and bows gently, despite the pain.
"I am Alexi Komonov, from a long line of warriors. I have fought many battles and killed many, but all for the reason of Order and Law. Part of our group came to a small valley to make a living in the harsh Uncharted Lands. There we met the Ahote people. An ancient race that are dedicated to the protection of the Uncharted Lands. We helped them in defeat an evil that had taken their children.
"But in this buisness of the Lizard Mountain, we were too late. The Lizards hate all that are not Lizard and their civilization is a plague to the good people of the Ahote." Alexi's lips begin to quiver but he holds himself together.
"We seek to restore the Ahote warriors to their people so they may survive the harshness of these lands and keep that old race of elves alive. That is, if your Wisdom deems it a good thing."
Alexi bows again and steps back.
Gimp / Gargul OOC Friday August 27th, 2010 9:18:42 AM
Still waiting for Zeph to speak to Gargul ...
Zeph AC26 (Shield) HP 36/42 Friday August 27th, 2010 11:47:34 AM
(OOC: Hey guys, heres a heads up. I just caught my girlfriend of 2 years cheating on me last night. So I am emotionally distressed and my posting may become darker and/or more sporadic. Today is a dark day indeed.)
Zeph snaps his head to attention when he finally realizes that he's the last person to speak, "My name is Zeph Illidian, newly appointed Avenger of Jancassis. As you know, my job is to dish out revenge when it is sought by innocent parties; which is why I am on this lizard hunting adventure. I am pleased to have the privilege to speak with you, your lordship. It seems we have some bargaining to do, and I agree to let my companions speak for me for the most part." Zeph says with a little bow.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Friday August 27th, 2010 12:15:39 PM
Garret stands and watches each member step forward and address the god. When they are done, Garret looks back at the god with expectation, but not having any idea of what to expect. He takes a quick glance at Jet to see if Jet knows what will happen next.
Gimp / Gargul Friday August 27th, 2010 1:25:11 PM
Gargul looks at each of you as you speak. For a moment, you feel as if he is looking only at you. It is an intense feeling ... His eyes are deep and ancient ... Once he was a source of great evil in the Wold ... Creator of the chromatic dragons ... Longtime nemesis of Alemi ... The only god belonging to both of the Wold's great pantheons ... The lord of mortality.
Gargul, God of Life and Death, speaks to each of you in turn.
"Garret Goodbarrel, you say the warriors of Al Mathir ran through the Ahote warriors." He glances down at the book Gimp now holds open next to him. He motions, and in an instant he summons a spirit of one of the lizard-folk you killed. The large lizard speaks, and although you do not understand the language, you know what he says. "The barbarians rode out to us, commanded that we leave, and attacked us when we would not. They died bravely but stupidly in a fight they chose, although they could not win it." Gargul motions, and the spirit is gone.
"Jet Stormway, you say that there is no negotiating with those from Al Mathir. That is not true. You say they want all the races to be their subjects or destroyed. That is true, but they are not fools enough to think they can always have what they wish. Take heart, brave one, and know that their leaders respect strength, and honor their bargains." He pauses, as if in thought. "Yes, peoples may be in danger, but peoples always are. Tribes, nations, races, like individual mortals, are born, grow strong, and then dwindle. The Wold herself, though, is not at risk."
"Keela Larch, you may be right. The Ahote may fade without their strength. But that matters little to me, for all people, all clans, come to me in time. I care more of those who embrace heroism, and change the Wold in so doing. I care more that you, Keela, have sacrificed much and risked more to ask this of me. For you are a hero, though you may yet deny it."
Charek notes that the god speaks his name in the proper dwarven fashion, with the special "kr" sound at the end. "Charek Headcrakr, you serve your companions well. Strong soul, strong mind, strong body. And so you serve me well, though you have not known it. It pleases me to hear your request."
"Alexi Komonov, you say that the civilization of Al Mathir is a plague." The god frowns, and Alexi cannot help but shudder in the thought that he has annoyed a being more powerful and more ancient than he can comprehend. "It is not so. They do not serve Lord Marteaus, and they seek to conquer, not to infect." His voice softens. "You want to help the Ahote survive. I am inclined to grant your petition in order to help you and your friends survive. Survive, and more than survive."
"Zeph Illidian, you seek a kind of justice. That matters little to me. But I value life as much as death, and I see the worth in your efforts, if not in your motive. Be fierce, youngling. Stand forth and be bold, as you have been. Then you will be worthy of the boon you ask."
He holds his arms outstretched, and behind him you sense a large group of people -- the Ahote dead, standing behind him. To all of you, he declares, "Actions have consequences, and so your request of me deserves a response. However, these warriors chose death in battle. I will therefore return but one of them to you." The god looks behind him. "What say you to this, Dasan, chief of these Ahote?"
The chief stands forth. He speaks in a form of elvish, but you understand him clearly. "We chose our path. We attacked knowing it would mean our doom, in order to buy the time our shaman told us would be needed to hold off the lizards until these heroes would arrive to finish our task. We saved our refuge from desecration, and we will all pay the price."
He looks behind at a figure in the shadows. "But if there is mercy, Great Spirit, then let my son, Muata, walk the Wold again. He is needed, for his people, and for my grandson, who yet lives." He takes his son's hand and pulls him forward. They both bow, though not as low as Charek.
Gargul nods, then looks at you all. "Does this satisfy the heroism that has driven you to me?"
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) d20+7=13 ; Friday August 27th, 2010 5:24:04 PM
Jet trembles, but not in fear, but rage. Jet has never lied, ever. Even when he was a mere beggar on the streets, he would admit to stealing and receive a harsher punishment then the others, but he was worth it, but now. A god dares to call me a liar. Well, maybe not a liar, but wrong. He can't help but respond. "Well, Your Grace, if you consider slavery or death a negotiation, I may well be mistaken, but I personally do not see it as an acceptable negotiations."
As for Gargul's last question, he will not go against the chiefs choice, even if he does not understand why that decision would be made and not the lead shaman, who's magic is so important. Jet often does not understand the wisdom that drives others though and learning patience in such matters. "So these warriors died so that their people might have a chance and that is now called foolish? Taking on the bully either in the street or the field of battle is what hero's are made of. If the Ahote had waited for the lizards to prepare, how far worse off would they have been? They were being hounded and did the only logical thing available, bravery and heroism aside. Personally Gargul, if you are asking about satisfying the heroism that drove us before you, all I can say is look at the them all and you will see the true hero's here today! We merely cast a spell from a scroll to speak on their behalf."
Diplomacy: 13 (Ugh. Not even everyone with an aid can help that roll.)
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Sunday August 29th, 2010 12:24:52 AM
Alexi, used to being chided by Jet, at first shudders at being chided by a god. But his words rang true to him, if not to Gargul, and he holds his head up and dares stare into the god's eyes.
"Pardon my words, Your Godness. But I called them a plague because they act like one. They spread over the land, scooping up all that lives, eating them or enslaving them, and leaving the land a mere shadow. I call THAT a plague. But your Wisdom and Sight is far greater than mine could hope to be, so I accept your reprimand.
After Jet's speach, Alexi is quick to add, "There is Survival, and there is Survival with dignity. These Ahote chose dignity over mere survival, even if it meant their death. Their efforts meant our success, and we would have certainly failed had it not been for them. Their Shaman, Istaqa saw that, and knowing his death, went forward anyway. They are greater heroes than I. I don't want to ride the Victor's Horse when the path is lined with their bodies. The Victory is theirs and all honor due them.
"We came humbly on their behalf and we certainly will honor their wishes." Alexi finishes with a bow to Gargul and then to Dasan and Muata. "May we see you in our dreams again, Dasan, and may we see you soon in a victory feast, Muata."
Keela Sunday August 29th, 2010 6:50:17 PM
Keela's heart is pounding, but she manages another curtsey. "Thank you, Exalted One," she says.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Monday August 30th, 2010 12:10:30 AM
Garret nods and bows to the god and thinks, "The Ahote attacked them? Why in the Wold would they do that? Surely they knew they would die. What honor would there be in dying just to delay them? Did the Ahote somehow know more than they are saying? Or was this just a foolish act of bravery?"
He looks off into the distance and thinks,"Well, I wonder where we should go from here?"
Gimp / Gargul Monday August 30th, 2010 7:28:10 AM
Jet says he does not see an offer of "death or slavery" as a valid negotiation. Gargul answers calmly, "If you are weak, slavery or death may be your only choice. Some slaves do not even have the choice of death. But if you are strong, you can make counteroffers. If a merchant offers you a price ten times what is fair, it is reasonable to offer a much lower price."
Jet adds his opinion about foolishness and the heroism of the Ahote, respectfully disagreeing with the god.
Alexi adds some comments on survival and heroism as well, also slightly contentious.
Garret has questions, more confused than angry.
Keela's answer pleases Gargul, and he reaches out and places a hand on her head. "Be brave," he tells her. [OOC: Keela gains a +5 morale bonus on one future saving throw -- you can decide to use the bonus AFTER you make the save and know the outcome otherwise.]
Gargul radiates patience and indulgence. "Now, my children, be at peace. Do not put words in my mouth. I did not call the Ahote either foolish or stupid. They chose a fight they could not win, hoping for a larger victory that night, which you gave to them. You could not have prevailed but for the damage they did that day."
"It was a heroic choice, and a brave one. They earned honorable deaths, and I am loathe to take that from them. But this one, this Muata, may return with you. Take him with you to the Wold of the Living."
"And Gimp, show them the way so that they do not risk a fall."
Gimp drops the book, which disappears before it hits the ground. "Come on, come on, this way!" he says.
Zeph AC26 (Shield) HP 36/42 Monday August 30th, 2010 10:01:47 AM
Zeph thinks about it all. "Yeah, there is absolutely no way we would have killed those lizards if the Ahote hadn't have done most of the work. For that, their deaths were justified. But I shall be the instrument of their vengeance." Zeph says to the god and the spirits of the Ahote upon leaving.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Monday August 30th, 2010 2:10:15 PM
Garret nods and, lost in thought, moves to follow Gimp.
Charek Monday August 30th, 2010 5:06:25 PM
Nodding at gargul's comments, Charek remains quiet and thoughtful as they follow the Imp out.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/14 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Monday August 30th, 2010 7:47:42 PM Because Jet is a glutton for punishment...
Jet says farewell to his spirit friends, " I pray your bravery earns you a high seat in Garguls Hall where wenching and wine are the meat and drink of your existance. Have a good hunt my friends until I someday join you, if it is HIS will."
Before turning to follow Gimp, Jet will say one last thing. "Your Grace, I have one last bit of business with you. My Ahote friends were betrayed by one of their own. He is also blamed for abducting the offspring of his own people in an attempt of some type that never came to his evil fruition. This persons name is Anuata and after we kill him, I may again return, not to plead with you to return him to the Wold, but to come and condemn him to a fate fit for the worst of people. It will be then, my oath for justice or revenge, depending on how one views it will be fullfilled."
With that, Jet bows and recieves any last words Gargul wants to give, hoping there is none, before leaving, still, a little more humble at the meeting.
Zeph AC26 (Shield) HP 36/42 Tuesday August 31st, 2010 12:22:17 AM
Zeph looks at Jet and whispers, "Killing of a traitor for revenge huh? I like your style. You sure you don't wanna take a few levels of Avenger there buddy?" Zeph says with a snicker.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:18/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Tuesday August 31st, 2010 12:28:05 AM
Alexi bows to the god and when done, he smiles and says, "Sorry, Your Godness, if we came across a bit annoyed, as it were. Wise folk would have waited for their anger to subside before coming here. I have learned much through your wisdom. Our Victory Feast will have a much deeper meaning because of this."
After Jet's comment, Alexi adds, "Yes, please great this Anuata with all the graciousness due a traitor and murderer of children. There should be a couple of witnesses here in your realm that will attest to that treachery and our bravery in defeating an Ice Demon to save them."
Alexi then salutes Gargul in the manner of the Mailed Fist and then follows Gimp.
"I think I need a drink," he mutters. "That strong kind Jet carries around."
Keela Tuesday August 31st, 2010 1:01:30 AM
Keela turns quietly to follow the guide back out. When they have gone a suitable distance, she whispers: "Now can I conjure a light?"
Gimp and the way home Tuesday August 31st, 2010 6:41:32 AM
[OOC: Why do you think Anuata honors Gargul?]
A couple of our heroes have parting words for Gargul, but as they speak them, they see that they are talking to an empty chair.
The party follows Gimp, who gives you each a hand as you step over the Woldsblood. The imp's touch is truly magical, healing you of all hurts and damage, even of the spiritual hurt that may have come on you from a splash of Woldsblood earlier. "No, don't thank me," Gimp mutters. "I was supposed to make sure you didn't get splashed in the first place. Clumsy oafs."
[OOC: Any who used a hero point to avoid the Woldsblood, please take it back. DM error -- forgot to adjudicate that part. The woldsblood damages the soul -- Wisdom damage, and stunning and such. But my bad, missed that part sorry.]
The portal back to the Wold appears, and you notice that you have a companion -- Muata, the chief's son, now the chief himself, it would seem. You all step through and return to the Ahote's valley refuge.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Tuesday August 31st, 2010 1:48:49 PM
As they walk away and Alexi mentions a drink, Garret nods in agreement, "Indeed, I could use some drink myself. I wonder if we took the night off for drinking if we'd be safe in the new Ahote caves."
When Keela mentions a light, Garret says, "I don't know. For a god, he didn't seem all that scary, did he? But heck, we'll be out soon, so hopefully your light won't be needed. Nice spell, though. I'm sure we'll need it one day."
As the group steps back into the Wold, Garret blinks in the light of the setting sun. He looks around and watches to see the reunion of Muata and his tribe. After a moment, Garret checks to see that everyone made it back from the land of the dead. When he is sure they have, he speaks, "I suggest we rest and tomorrow consider heading out after this Anuata. However, since we went out after the Ahote here, I'm not sure we know which way to go. I suppose we shall have to backtrack to the lizard camp, then try and determine their direction from there. Same watch as last night?"
As the group sets up for the night, Garret looks around to see if he can find ale from the group or from the Ahote.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) 2d8+4=13 ; 2d8+4=6 (both 1's); d8+4=12 ; d8=3 ; d8+4=11 ; d8=6 ; d8+4=8 ; d8+4=10 ; d8+4=10 ; d8+4=12 ; Tuesday August 31st, 2010 5:10:23 PM ooc: Where in Jet's post did he say Anuata worshipped Gargul? I don't think Jet did. What are you refering to DM?
Seeing an empty chair, Jet smiles, knowing he was still heard. Anuata will pay for his crimes. Of this, Jet has never been more sure.
When Alexi asks for drink it is produced in an easy manner and with a gesture, Jet wants the young horseman to pass it around when he is done. The fighter cleric will be the last of the group to indulge before offering Gimp the rest in the skin. "Thank you for your fair guidance. It should not go unrewarded. Until we meet again, I suppose?"
He shakes the hand of Chief Muata and looks to Garret. "We do need to rest, but who knows how long we have been here? We might go back to notice five minutes or five days have passed. Let us make plans after we know more, but most of all, we must consider how to get the rest of Chief Muatas' people to a safe place. Then, we can track down the traitor. There is little doubt in my mind, we let him escape when we fought the lizards. That was a our mistake and one we can not make again."
Once in the real world, Jet will cure the rest of the wounds on the group.
Alexi is healed 13 points, then 15 points.
Jet is healed 17
Zeph is healed 8
Alexi gets another 10 and then 10 more bringing him to full I believe
Jet will takes 12 more.
Using the last spells available, 0 level spells, Jet has five more hit points bringing everyone close to full if not full.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Tuesday August 31st, 2010 5:56:50 PM
OOC: Jet, Gimp's touch healed us all up. But thanks for the thought. :) Quote: 'The imp's touch is truly magical, healing you of all hurts and damage, even of the spiritual hurt that may have come on you from a splash of Woldsblood earlier...'
IC: Alexi thanks Jet for the swig and passes it around. It helps him get over the rivulets of Woldsblood, or was it the Imp?
Alexi gives Muata an Ahote handshake and says, "We will talk about our hunt of Anuata later. You go now to your people. If Anuata knows of this place, the Ahote may still be in danger. Keep guards well placed."
Alexi then moves off to see to the horses, then about some food, then rest.
DM Cayzle extra Tuesday August 31st, 2010 6:33:50 PM
OOC: Sorry, misread the post. Thought someone was linking Anuata with Gargul.
As far as your plans for that villain, Anuata, well, Gargul made no response, but if he had said anything, I suspect it might have been something like, "So? Adventurers want to kill villains? Go for it. That's your job."
Keela Wednesday September 1st, 2010 12:04:21 AM
Back in the Wold, Keela looks around at her companions. "Was--was that really Lord Gargul?" she asks. "He patted me on the head. I don't think it was really him."
DM Cayzle extra Wednesday September 1st, 2010 8:11:56 AM
Before Gargul's empty throne, Jet offers Gimp a drink, who answers "I swore an oath I'd never touch the stuff again!" He lies down on his back on the ground, saying, "So give her a pour, mate!" The imp squeezes his eyes shut and opens his mouth really wide.
.....
You come back in the Wold, with one more person than when you left.
Muata grips Alexi's hand, and then gives him a fierce hug and says, in his elfish-accented common, "Thank you many times over old friend!"
Stepping back and looking at you all, he says, "You have saved my people, and we will not forget. You are welcome here now and always."
Then he takes Alexi's advice and goes to his people, grinning widely.
Garret mentions that Gargul was not "scary," and Keela wonders if it was really him. But even as she says that, she feels the potentiality of the god's blessing, and she knows she has been touched by the divine.
Garret suggests a rest and a hunt tomorrow for this Anuata. Jet thinks he has got away.
It is sunset of the same day you read the scroll.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Wednesday September 1st, 2010 1:08:30 PM
Garret looks around for a fire, or a good location for a fire. If the Ahote have already set one up, he will head over to the fire to sit and stare into the fire. If not, he will look around and attempt to gather wood for a small fire. He looks around at their group and the Ahote. He says, "I'm not sure what sort of watch system they have, but I wouldn't be surprised if we were attacked tonight. After all, we did quite a bit of damage back there, and at some point, someone is going to notice. They could easily follow us to this location. We should scout out locations for defense now, before we rest. Then I think we should coordinate with the Ahote and join them in watches tonight."
"I'll take first watch with Zeph. Sjurd, Hmark, and Charek can take that midnight watch, hopefully not seeing a thing. Then Jet, Keela and Alexi can take that last watch. Then in the morning, we can move out early and hopefully still find tracks to follow on our search for Anuata."
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Wednesday September 1st, 2010 2:32:57 PM Thanks, I missed that Gimp healed us.
Jet laughs at Gimp, "You should be nicknamed Loophole." As he empties the skin into the little demon.
Jet almost sheds a tear when Muata rejoins his people and glares at anyone that dares says anything about it. "Dust, that's all, so shut your face hole!"
About the evening...
"If we have a fire, we can be spotted for miles. I think a cold camp and then, we have to get these," looking over at the lizards of burden, "dinosaurs out of here. They can be seen from the air for miles. What we can do, is set up some type of dangling line that if we were to set it afire, it might scare them into running off into the opposite direction we want to go. We saw their trail for miles and so will our enemies. They will follow these creatures while we get away to fight another day."
Jet looks around, "Just an opinion anyway."
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Wednesday September 1st, 2010 5:49:00 PM
(Any chance we can get about 480xp for talking to Gargul so Zeph can finally level up? I think hes been the same level for about a year or so. Also, can you give me a loot list that we got from the lizards so I can do some calculations and distribute the loot?)
Zeph comes back from the trip much as he left, except now a little more somber and tired.
"We need to sell all the stuff we got from killing those lizards to the catacombs via the Star Mage's guild. How do we contact them and get that going so we can maybe buy some more stuff for the next leg of the journey?" Zeph says, trying to keep his thoughts moving forward.
Zeph will memorize some spells for the next day and help set any traps that are suggested.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Wednesday September 1st, 2010 8:09:14 PM
OOC: DM, describe the Ahote camp to us again so we can visualize our best watch posts. Presumably, the Ahote have small cookfires, but a bit more detail of the camp would help.
Alexi looks at Jet, wide-eyed, and perplexed.
"Let them loose! Just let those huge behemoth docile killing machines loose! They look very trainable and the Ahote sure could use some to plow or ride instead of horses. I, for one, want to learn how to ride one."
If allowed by the party, Alexi will pick one out for his own. He will study the saddle and bridle and learn how to saddle one up. Presumable they eat grass, but Alexi will watch.
In the morning, when his watch is over, he will seek out the new head Shaman of the Ahote and see if he has the capability to communicate with the lizard mount in some fashion to learn its eating habbits.
OOC: DM, if Alexi riding one of these things will unballance the party, or the game, let Alexi know in some way, otherwise, why not? Is there an entry in the MM for such a creature?
IC: That night, Alexi visits the Ahote to mourn with them the loss of their warriors, especially the ones he knew well, Tocho, Honaw, Istaqa, and Dasan. (OOC: don't know if Honaw (Ambush Drake episode) or Tocho (first meeting episode) are dead or alive.)
If Tocho was killed, Alexi seeks out Tocho's sister (OOC: mentioned by Honaw in Ambush Drake episode) and gives her a gift. His Dire Weasle pelt he had treated and made to look pretty. "Your brother was as brave as the bravest Ahote. Accept this gift from me as my sincere regrets of his death."
Keela Wednesday September 1st, 2010 11:48:58 PM
Keela listens to her companions before quietly voicing her opinion. "I think that a group of people this large will be visible from the air no matter what we do. I agree that we should keep lights to a minimum, but I see no reason to get rid of the beasts. They could be of tremendous help to the Ahote."

========== ========== ==========
The party discusses security, fires, the beasts of burden, and more. You see that the valley walls are steep, steep enough to hide nighttime fires, and that the small smokeless daytime cookfires are likewise not visible to watchers on in the badlands beyond.
Another DM Post, to mark Muata's return to you, later today.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Thursday September 2nd, 2010 1:44:42 PM
Garret eyes the steep walls of the valley and says, "Well, if the enemy takes up position there with archers, we are all just plain dead." He looks around at the camp and continues, "But I do not see these people moving any time soon, so I think we can just set up our defenses against being directly followed. Perhaps there is a pinch point nearby where we could hold off a large group of them, should they decide to attack us."
"Then again, they may be so concerned with whatever they are planning that we are nothing more than a minor inconvenience to them."
When Alexi starts looking over the lizard mounts, Garret looks up and up and up at them. He speaks, more to himself than anyone else, "I do not think that thing would even know I was upon it. I am sure that I would be completely unable to control it. But they could provide a good method of transport over long distances. Perhaps I could just ride with someone else. There is clearly plenty of room up there."
Muata returns, smiling at you. If you tell him of your concerns, he says, "Friends, have no fear. This valley is a refuge. It is hidden by steep walls, and the landscape around it is forbidding. And we have scouts out. We are likely quite safe. Isstaqua foresaw this spot as a place of refuge for us in dark times, such as these. That's why we went out to fight -- to keep the enemy from finding this place."
"We are having a feast tonight and a ceremony to give me the title of chief. Please come, be freshened, and rest from your worries for a night of reunion, if not celebration."
[OOC: Sorry, no xp award at this time.]
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Thursday September 2nd, 2010 2:26:18 PM
Garret brightens up when Muata explains the valley and the motivation to fight. He replies, "That is good to know, Chief. We are honored that you have invited us to this celebration and humbly accept." He moves about, setting up his place to sleep before trotting off to join the chief and the tribe. As he trots away, he turns his head back to the rest of the group and calls out, "Are you coming?"
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Thursday September 2nd, 2010 7:44:58 PM Well... Jet thinks to himself If Istaqua believes it is safe, I will trust his visions. They have yet to be wrong.
He shrugs his shoulders at the thought of keeping the beasts. "They will need a lot of food to maintain and seeing as they are as smart as other animals, they will need to be well cared for. I will keep Bantom and Vaya for myself thank you."
Zeph mentioned Jet pledging allegience to Jancassis back in the realm of shadows and now that there is time, he addresses it as a priest would. "All the gods have their place. It is important to acknowledge those gods when needed. Limiting ones self to a single divine inspiration is, to me, a waste of time. I am already an Avenger, even if without the powers of one, as well, I am a Protector and many other specialties devoted to single gods. Being without the powers does not make less of a cleric to those gods."
Jet is looking forward to a little down time. Normally, he would be happy to spend the evening with a bunch of women without men around, but in todays note, it will be a sour celebration. Yet, he is happy the scroll use and spell turned out well enough for the Ahote to have a solid leader again.
"I think in the long run though, we need to head back to Bryn Baraz. They likely have quite a contengent there by now and the mine running. We must go back and stop that business. Maybe go back in the way we escaped, through the water. The smaller tunnels will limit the size of monsters we have to deal with."
But Jet knows, that is a conversation meant for another time.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Thursday September 2nd, 2010 10:49:08 PM
Alexi is pleased with the hidden location and ready for a good Ahote feast, even if the circumstances are not as one would wish. He remembers their first feast with the Ahote way up on the plateau, before they had reached Bryn Baraz. It had been a time of fun and jest, and drink, and fun and stories and drink, and oh, it brought back good memories.
Once the horses are taken care of, Alexi seeks out the new shaman and asks him if he would be able to learn about the lizard mounts and perhaps use them to plow, plant, or do other task, and if he can determine what they eat.
Keela Friday September 3rd, 2010 12:58:46 AM
After being dragged across the badlands for what seems like an age, Keela is glad for the chance of a little rest. She takes the term quite litereally, and naps the afternoon away.
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Friday September 3rd, 2010 3:38:52 AM
Zeph speaks to Muata, "Chief, we need to discuss plans for survival for your people. This land looks harsh and I want to know how many days your people can survive on their supplies. We have the means to contact the Star Mage Tower and acquire a great deal of equipment for your people. I also want to know how many able warriors you have. I know you say this place is secret, but I am afraid that the Lizards may have too many divination skills. We read a tablet explaining the powers of their lizard gods and that is what scares me now. Also, it is not ultimately my decision, but I suggest that my companions and I don't stay too long as we have a mission to do.... and you can help us. Tell me everything you have learned about the lizards."
Then Zeph waits for Muata's response about the supplies, manpower, and information.
DM Cayzle - Chief Muata Friday September 3rd, 2010 9:14:15 AM
Garret and Keela enjoy a chance to relax and get ready for the feast.
Alexi finds the "shaman" is an inexperienced teenage girl who can barely cast a spell. She is Mui'ama, the great-neice of Isstaqua. She is eager to look at the huge beasts with Alexi. They do seem quite docile, and they have no natural weapons. Their teeth are designed for eating grasses and grains. (For reference, imagine a small Brontosaurus with a shortish neck and stubby tail.) Seems that they could be trained for some task, maybe.
[OOC regarding special mounts. The new house rules say that you can only have a long-term special mount if you get it as a class ability, like a druid or ranger companion or a paladin's mount. So if Alexi wants to use one of these as a mount, it has to be for a module only, maybe, and that's it. Similarly, Bantom is going to "retire" here for a while, Jet. You can take him on an adventure in a couple modules, if you like, for the duration of a module. That's the new house rule, sorry.]
Jet and Zeph are concerned on behalf of the Ahote. Muata laughs. "To you, friends, this land is barren, but to us, it is home, and this valley is paradise. New friend Zeph, we need no supplies. Jet, there is plenty for those big beasts to eat.
Jet is wisely concerned about what is happening back at Bryn Baraz. Muata looks severe and says, "Yes, they are worrisome. I wish I could help you to fight them."
That evening is the feast. It is subdued, considering, but a very lusty shout is raised when Muata is invested with the chief's accoutrements.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Friday September 3rd, 2010 12:13:57 PM
Jet watches the ceremony of a new chief with pride. These people, so simple on the outside, has quite a complex little life when it comes down to it. There very existance depends upon a lot of little things coming together. Not wanting to offend their rituals, Jet says private prayers to the gods that they, their children and their childrens children will prosper in the future.
DM Cayzle: Highlight to display spoiler: {Email sent}
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Friday September 3rd, 2010 12:28:50 PM
Garret joins in the feast and celebration with gusto. He observes and attempts to learn as many of the local customs as possible. He will try and learn the words used in the celebrations and will haltingly attempt to speak the language with any of the Ahote that will indulge him.
When Jet mentions Bryn Baraz, Garret says, "Indeed, Jet, there is a time for planning, and a time for rest. This is a time for celebration, there will be time enough for discussions on destinations on the morrow. Come, join in the celebration of their new chief!"
Garret will eagerly try any of the "local" food prepared. If there is singing, he will attempt to join in with the Ahote, trying feebly to sing along with them.
Charek Friday September 3rd, 2010 5:28:59 PM
Charek tries to relax and enjoy the evening, but something, that he can't put his finger on, keeps his mind on other things and not the celebration going on around him. He politely eats when food is placed in front of him and even downs a few tankards of ale, but there is obviously something bothering him.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Saturday September 4th, 2010 9:44:48 PM
Alexi's heart skips a beat when he meets the new shaman. Alexi has a hard time explaining himself, not just because of the language barrier either.
However, in the end, Alexi can see that having one of those brutes as mount might look inpressive, but not as practical as his trusty Lobo.
Alexi pats the scales of the brute and grins at the thought of riding into Floating City on it, but then sighs.
Alexi marvels at the hidden valley and spends some time looking around. Finding a pool of water, he takes a bath, well, sort of one. He does the best he can while remaining modest. 'Now, Jet, he'd just jump in completly unclothed and not care a bit.' he muses . Well, I'll be half-way presentable, at least..
Alexi tries to be upbeat during the feast and cheers along with the othe Athote when Muata is installed as their chief. He participates in all the other festivities until the last song, then finds his bedroll for a short night's sleep.
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Sunday September 5th, 2010 11:20:13 PM
Zeph will take the down time to scribe a spell to his book and write down the value of the equipment salvaged from the last battle.... can you send me a loot list?
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Monday September 6th, 2010 7:16:34 PM
Jet watches as Alexi takes a bath in a place where water is scarce and hopes it is running water, so his filth does not stagnate the pond.
With a big old smile he walks up to Keela and puts his arm around her in a friendly manner, "Got one of them spells to clean me up with?" In the process sharing his pungent oder with her in a manner that is more of a practical joke, with the request as the wrapping on the gift.
Keela Monday September 6th, 2010 8:07:44 PM
When Jet slings an arm around Keela, she jumps back, startled. "Ugh! Jet!" she protests. She does cast the Prestidigitation spell to tidy up the both of them. She gets a small measure of revenge by conjuring a bit of rose oil and dabbing it on him. It will disappear when the spell does, but she does not mention that part to Jet.
That evening, Keela tries to push the group's troubles to the back of her mind and enjoy the celebration while she can.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Monday September 6th, 2010 8:47:16 PM ooc: I would like for the group to decide what we are planning on doing next, in order for Jet to pray for proper spells please.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Monday September 6th, 2010 9:01:16 PM
OOC: Jet, Alexi was taking a 'sponge' bath, or rather, a wet rag bath. Didn't make that clear. :)
DM Cayzle - The Feast Tuesday September 7th, 2010 7:36:43 AM
DM Note: There are many small streams here. It is remarkably lush and fertile ... especially compared with the badlands aroundabouts. Alexi can have a bath, if he wants.
Before the feast, Alexi and the apprentice shaman, Mui'ama, look over the beasts, and she seems to have a deft hand with them -- moreso than with Alexi, and with the two of them a little tongue-tied, mostly you just look at the animals.
Alexi cleans up, and that inspires Jet to tease Keela a little. Keela cleans them both up and teases a little back.
Zeph does some bookkeeping and scribes a spell.
This is the loot from all the large lizards. 10 magical sets of large plate armor 10 magical large bastard swords 20 large masterwork lances (good quality, nonmagical) 10 magical rings. 10 large daggers (nonmagical, regular quality) Other gear: rope, riding gear, food, gear to take care of the mounts, etc About 500 gp in unusual coins similar or identical to those found at Bryn Baraz. (See loot list of June 18)
At the feast, Jet enjoys the celebration quietly, with silent prayers.
Garret joins in some dancing, and the Ahote find this very amusing. He inspires some of the few good laughs of the event.
Charek tries to join in, but something ... internal? external? ... is bothering him.
Muata sits with you all for part of the feast, and makes sure that you all are seated in places of honor. During the feast, he mentions that he hopes you will stay here for a while to rest after great labors. After the feast, his very pregnant wife drags him off to bed.
[OOC from DM: There is nothing wrong with staying here if you like. Your contact, the mage Katarina, is scheduled to get in touch a week after her last conversation. That's in a couple days. You have mentioned getting back to Bryn Baraz ... building off that, I do have two new characters to introduce, played by Jon and Kristel Eber, set to meet you when you get back in that area. And just because you seem to have forgotten, and you might well kick yourselves later otherwise, your very kindly DM will remind you that you came here to see if the Ahote had any info about the lizard-kin, right? LOL!]
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Tuesday September 7th, 2010 11:44:23 AM
(OOC: Didn't I already ask about the lizards two posts ago? I Believe "Please tell me everything you know about the lizards" was my words.)
DM Cayzle - Extra Tuesday September 7th, 2010 1:23:45 PM
LOL! Sorry Zeph! They were too busy getting ready for the feast? Yeah, that's it. You can find someone to talk with tomorrow.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Tuesday September 7th, 2010 3:52:06 PM
As the celebration winds down, Garret says to the group, "I think it would indeed be a good idea to stay here and rest a bit. We can repair and clean gear and items, if we need to, and we appear to be relatively safe at the moment. We can talk on the morrow with the good Ahote about the lizard men and in a day or so, Katarina is to contact us. After that, perhaps we can decide whether we head back to Bryn Baraz, or chase after the lizard beasts. What say you?"
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Tuesday September 7th, 2010 4:41:59 PM
With Keelas help, Jet smells a lot better, if not a bit foppish. He gets the jest, but still, the improvement is refreshing for all.
Jet watches Charek and his dark mood. He understands completely, if not entirely, why the dwarf feels the way he does. The only one of his kind, so far from home outside in the open sky instead of deep underneath the earth.
Without words, Jet goes and sits next to him and quietly passes his wine skin to him, allowing him to speak only if he wants to. Jet responds only if asked to, giving him a chance to vent frustrations or even concerns, if he has them.
Jet quietly nods at Garrets' decision, not really agreeing with it, but then, he is a halfling, always wanting to prance around with music and take life easy. At least this one isn't as bad some others he knew in the city and has some motivation.
The thoughts of the visit with Gargul bothers him. Why are they even here now, if the lizards are not a threat to the Wold and the Ahote are now safe? No reason at all to be a hero really. Jet ponders going back to a big city somewhere and perhaps renting out an entire whore house for a week, with a distillery next door to it. Who knows, maybe he will sell all his magic and buy one, the distillery that is, Jet would soon go broke if he had to pay his own girls to take care of his needs.
Let's face it, the only way I can keep up that lifestyle is to continue to do what I am doing or I would just be a homeless priest in the city instead of out in the middle of nowhere.
Charek Tuesday September 7th, 2010 11:37:32 PM
Looking up at Jet's approach, charek is a bit surprised by his sudden company and offer of the wine skin, taking it when it is passed.
"Jet I feel a bit out of place here. It is very strange. And Garguls comments bother me for some reason... There is something just not quite right about all this.......
He takes another swig and passes the skin back to Jet.
Wiping his chin with the back of his hand he nods while passing the skin back to the dwarf, "I know how you feel. The visit was much less climatic as I would have thought myself, yet we are a part of something important. What it is, I have no idea, but I think, where ever we are meant to go, that is where we will wind up. I can't think of anything better to do with my time, then beating up buillies. Well, besides, drinking with women, but even that can be tiresome after a short while."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Wednesday September 8th, 2010 1:15:15 PM
Garret finds a spot on the ground clear of rocks, pushes sticks and leaves out of the way, and fluffs up some grass for a pillow.
DM Cayzle - What the Ahote know Wednesday September 8th, 2010 5:22:21 PM
Muata can tell you about the lizards who attacked ... their kinds and tactics ... but you know that, between your book and your personal experience.
He adds that Isstaqua told him the traitor, Anuata, intended to lead the lizards here, surprise everyone by force and -- maybe with minimal bloodshed -- take over as a puppet of the lizards. He likely did not reveal the location of the valley, to keep himself valuable. Now that he has been defeated, who knows what he will do?
As for the lizards, it seems they would have made the Ahote pay a heavy tribute for the privilege of being ruled by the traitor.
You have two days' action before Katarina is due to call.
Keela Wednesday September 8th, 2010 8:52:11 PM
Keela joins her friends to discuss plans and strategies. "From my perspective," she says. "It would be nice to stay here for a day. I could copy a spell into my spellbook." Privately, she thinks a week would be better, but she realizes they don't have that kind of time.
"Zeph might appreciate the time, too," she adds.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Wednesday September 8th, 2010 9:03:43 PM
In the morning, Garret wakes in good spirits. He walks around and tries to talk with the Ahote, asking them general questions like what they are preparing, what they are making, and where they found the things that they're using to make and prepare the various things. He also looks around at the area, noting the rocks and their structure, and the different kinds of plants. grass. and trees.
Charek Wednesday September 8th, 2010 10:17:39 PM
Charek finds a moment of time to chat with Muata to find out whether he want to hunt down the traitor himself and deal with him or if he would like any help doing it. Charek takes time each day spending some time in isolation to clear his thoughts and twice a day he works himself into a lather working with his axe, ocaasionally taking some time out for some target practice with his cross bow.
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 d20+7=17 ; Wednesday September 8th, 2010 11:26:57 PM "Yeah. A little breathing time would be nice. We can plan our next move. I don't know whether we should return to Bryn Baraz or if we should seek out more lizard camps... or perhaps infiltrate the lizard city in some way."
Then Zeph scratches his scruffy beard that he has accidentally grown from adventuring for so long with little pause. "After thinking it over, I think our best course of action is to trail the floating lizard city and kill their troops as they send them down to attack human or dwarf civilizations."
Zeph will spend the down time studying Keela's spellbook and copying a few spells into his own. (Spellcraft check =17, success, and I have her to help). "Mind if I grab Scorching Ray and Web from your book, and you can scribe two of these scrolls I still have in my pack" Zeph says to Keela, showing her what he bought last time:
Hold Portal, Summon Monster I, Disguise Self ,Spider Climb(150), Protection from arrows(150), Resist Energy(150), See Invisibility (150), Invisibility(150), Blur(150), and Blindness/Deafness(150), Detect Thoughts(150), Comprehend Languages (25gp), Identify(125gp), Knock(150), False Life(150)
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Thursday September 9th, 2010 11:57:32 AM
Garret watches Charek practice with his axe. He nods his head and when Charek stops a moment, Garret says, "A nice weapon, indeed. But it seems to me that you are wasting some energy when you swing it just this way. A more straightforward way that would produce more of a killing blow might work if you swing it in a smaller arc, here..."
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Thursday September 9th, 2010 10:24:09 PM
OOC: sorry i missed a post. had one tornado pass by io the left of the house and one pass by to the right of the house yesterday. Glad there wasn't a third one! :)
IC: Alexi listens to the others talk while staring at the stars, dreamy eyed, thinking of other things. But soon his attention returns to the group's discussion.
"The Mailed Fist was hired to wipe out a bandit group terrorizing the trade route to a city. To find the hide-out, we had a ranger infiltrate the bandit group and become a member. We wiped out the bandit group in no time after that. With the spell Locate Object, the task of finding our spy, and thus the hideout, was a piece of cake.
Wonder if Muata knows this Anuata well enough to use such a spell to locate something he carries? Some talisman neclace, special ceremonial thing, or anything unique?" Alexi muses out loud.
Alexi massaged the Ahote ceremonial bag that hung around his neck on a leather strip as his eyes glazed over but returned into focus long enough for him to say, "If this Anuata is the one who orchestrated the kidnapping of the children, which we foiled, then he has struck twice and failed twice because of us. A third time would not be a surprise. He didn't like us when we first met and we didn't improve our welcome this time. He may sulk for a while but I don't think he'll give up.
"Istaqa had a vision before the settlers came to Bryn Baraz. It was this vision that kept the Ahote from attacking us when we met the Ahote, even though they wanted to. But his vision fortold that we would have to work together to survive, and look, it's exactly, sort of, how it has happened." Alexi grins, his thoughts elsewhere. "We certainly are here for a reason, and each time we accomplish that, another reason shows up."
Next day, Alexi seeks out Mui'ama and manages to tell her he'd like to help her with the lizards. They could learn the straps and harnesses together, as two people working together was better than one. If she accepts, he'll spend most of the next two days with Mui'ama learning how to put the gear on the animals and teaching them how to go slowly forward, stop, turn, and so forth, as one would with a plow horse.
OOC: when you say 'large', i don't suppose that woud fit on any of us, right? sigh...
IC: at some point next day, Alexi asks, "Well, do we know what this treasure is yet?" with a wild glint in his eyes.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Friday September 10th, 2010 12:29:13 AM Oh this should be good... Jet thinks while a halfling monk explains to a dwarven warrior how to wield an axe. He prepares in his mind a few instantanious healing spells to bring the foolish little guy back from the brink of death, just in case Charek has a disposition anywhere near like Jets' temper.
He is seen with his arms crossed over his large barrel chest and a large grin on his face, waiting...
DM Cayzle - Two days of Down Time Friday September 10th, 2010 7:22:30 AM
For the next two days, Keela and Zeph spend time copying spells.
Garret takes the time to visit with the Ahote people. He learns that they live lightly on the land, with no permanent structures. They take seriously their mission to help Mother Wold recover from the ancient blight that ruined most of a continent. It seems that this valley is a kind of seed bank; the Ahote use this place as a refuge and storehouse for creatures and plants that they hope to reintroduce throughout the larger area. While of course, some are busy with the stuff of life ... making food and clothes, patching a hole in a tent, mending a saddle ... others are readying small pots of plants to transplant once they leave the valley.
Garret also finds time to "help" Charek with his axe-work.
Charek asks Muata about the traitor, and about hunting him down. "No, my friend, we will let him go. Isstaqua told us we would have nothing to fear from him again if we went out to face him. Maybe that is because he has fled and will never return to this part of the Wold. Or maybe it is because you and your friends will put an end to him. I do not know, but he has passed out of the story of the Ahote."
Alexi asks Muata if he had anything unique about him. The Ahote's new chief says that yes, he always had a book with him, that he studied every day. And he had a staff he carried with him. Alexi also helps the young druid shaman with the lizard-beasts.
Jet relaxes as well, though perhaps not with his usual vigor. He enjoys watching his friends and hanging out.
On the morning of the third day, Charek is contacted by Katarina. She asks for a full report. And she says that she has scried the mine. The lizards have moved back in, and are using a slave force of halflings to work the mine, along with the smaller lizards.
DM Cayzle - OOC Friday September 10th, 2010 7:25:24 AM
Alexi, glad you are still with us in the Wold and not in Oz! Hmmm ... dropping a house on Anuata *would* likely do the job ...
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Friday September 10th, 2010 5:12:52 PM
Jet is glad they finally have contact with the outside world. His supplies dwindling down to just a few skins left, he voices his concern to some of the others about keeping items fresh and a constant supply of drink and not just water, but that with which Jet pays tribute to the gods every morning with a toast to each.
Jet allows the Ahote to believe they are safe. He is confident, the group has done as much for them as possible. With some regret, Jet never got a chance to learn how to perform the camp fire rituals he participated in, but maybe, that knowledge will be passes on to the new shaman of the natives. Going over to Vaya, jet unpacks his Alchemical Lab he bought a couple of years ago with his sign on money. It may well be awhile before he will have a permanent place to set it up again and the equipment will be well used by them. Maybe they will let him use it sometime? Now, Vaya can carry even more items and supplies.
ooc: I need some role playing assistance. Jet wants to get a few kegs of beer, wine and whiskey for the road, but he doesn't have the knowledge to know it could be carried with an Item spell, really easily. If it is cost effective, we might want to consider that route for other items we might need.
Charek Friday September 10th, 2010 10:54:32 PM
Out of the corner of his eye he sees that he is being watched as he goes through his forms and work out, ending with a bit more of a flourish than he would normally do, he quickly replaces his ax in its harness and walks over toward Garrett as he hears his comment he slows a moment and looks back over to where he was just working out and with a grunt simply says, "Dead is Dead, Monk." "If it is a killing blow then it did its job. And if it stops me from getting hit at the same time or protects others, then that's even better."
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Monday September 13th, 2010 12:02:57 AM
OOC: looks like the only loot we can use are the rings and the gear. all the other stuff are Large sized. Let's get them sold. So, what are the rings?
Keela d20=13 ; Monday September 13th, 2010 2:02:29 AM
Keela is finally able to scribe the Melf's Acid Arrow from the scroll she's been carrying around for weeks now.
"Of course you may copy spells from me, Zeph," she says. "And I've heard that Protection from Evil is quite a servicable spell. I'd like to copy that one from you, if I could."
On the third morning, she prepares a slightly altered set of spells, and is ready to resume adventuring.
Today's Spells:
0 - Detect Magic 0 - Disrupt Undead 0 - Light 0 - Ray of Frost 1 - Color Spray 1 - Feather Fall 1 - Magic Missile 1 - Protection from Evil 2 - Melf's Acid Arrow 2 - Scorching Ray 2 - Web 2 - Extended Alarm 3 - Fly 3 - Haste 3 - Extended Rope Trick
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Monday September 13th, 2010 2:22:54 PM
Garret nods to Charek and says, "Oh yes, dead is good. Myself, I am always looking for better, more efficient ways to help others be dead."
"So, the lizards have moved back into the the mines, and they have more slaves. I do not see that we have any other direction in which to travel now, does anyone else?"
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Monday September 13th, 2010 3:06:23 PM
Alexi's eyes brighten at the word of the lizards return to the mine.
"Ah, back to our old stomping grounds. Undoubtly they'll be better prepared than last time, as now they have slaves. But they still don't know of the back entrance.
"Boy, I sure looove to free slaves. I can't wait to take them on again."
OOC: If we sell the stuff we can't use, Alexi would like to purchase more goodies before we leave, if possible.
DM Cayzle - What Katarina said Monday September 13th, 2010 4:42:49 PM
Jet meets a couple of the Ahote who are skilled brewers. They compare notes, and accept with gladness his gift. They insist that it remains his own, and he is always welcome here, either to drink or to brew drink.
Garret and Charek engage in friendly banter.
Keela and Zeph trade arcanish notes.
Alexi is eager to return to the mines.
BUT -- no one said they actually did give Katarina "a full report." She really does insist on some answer, and seems a bit peeved at being ignored. What do you tell her? everything? Even about the use to which you put the Raise Dead scroll she gave you?
Assuming that you do report back to some degree or other, she will send an archon to move your goods back and forth, allowing for Identifies and sellings. Send her whatever you want to ID and/or trade, and she will give you a report back next week. You can also put in requests for items you want to trade, and she will do her best to accommodate you out of the loot you send her. HOWEVER, the armor is too heavy for the archon to move (max 50 lbs per item).
She has not yet given you an assignment or suggestion ... maybe because you have not reported to her?
OOC: Just because your overworked DM is running two different games and falling a little behind on his posts is no reason to actually ignore the words he puts in the mouths of important NPCS! Just sayin'! :-)
Charek Monday September 13th, 2010 9:16:14 PM
(ooc: LOL fine)
Charek aknowledges Katrina's missive and lets her know that he will pass the word on and that they should be heading back to the mine the next morning.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Tuesday September 14th, 2010 12:40:25 AM
OOC: well, Alexi was going to say something but he felt the 'leader' should be the 'teller'. He also expected Jet to jump in if Garret didn't. Sigh... i guess he'll just have to say something.
IC: As the others mingle around and discuss returning to the mine, Alexi gives a 'WHOOOP' at being able to antagonize the lizards some more. He tells Katarina, "When we left Bryn Baraz, we didn't really think we'd be back. We wanted to find our Ahote friends and see if they were all right and warn them of the flying lizard city. We found a detachment of the lizards heading towards the Ahote camp. Many of the Ahote warriors died in trying to slow them down until help could arrive. We arrived just in time to defeat the detachment and save the Ahote camp.
"Now we are here, resting up. But we will be ready to head back to Bryn Baraz tomorrow. We'll get our food and water supplies ready today.
"Oh," Alexi adds "Can I have a message sent to my father Smirnikov Komonv, of the Mailed Fist?" Alexi hands over a large leather belt with a grand buckle. Images of entangled dragons are carved into the leather and brought alive with different colored inks. (OOC: lotto win some time back)
A note attached to the belt says, "Father, I'm doing well and have made a good name for myself. This is a present given to me for my excellent service to the people."
Alexi's near-death experience with the lizards has brought him to try to show his pa he has done well despite leaving the Mailed Fist against his pa's wishes. He hoped his pa would see the gift given to him as somewhat similar to receiving a commendation medal from a Mailed Fist commander such as his pa and grandpa have.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Tuesday September 14th, 2010 1:22:01 PM
As Alexi reports to Katrina, Garret looks over in surprise. When Alexi pauses, Garret says, "Oh, sorry about that Katrina, I didn't see you there."
He stands and reports to her, adding to Alexi's words, "Yes, indeed, we have had a few very tough and hard-fought battles here with these lizardmen. They seem to be nearly unlimited in number and clearly have made alliances as they have progressed to increase their power."
"This group of Ahote appear to be in a safe place now, despite the loss of a large number of Ahote warriors. It is only by the use of Jet's divine means and our meeting with the god of death that they even have a leader at this time. But they fought bravely."
"We are planning on heading back to free the slaves at Bryn Baraz, unless you have seen something else that might be more pressing at the moment..."
OOC: Sorry, I was confused about Katrina, and thought she only appeared to Charek and not everyone!
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Tuesday September 14th, 2010 5:24:28 PM
(OOC: Yeah, I thought that Charek was the only one receiving the message too.)
"yeah, Explain everything to her. Even the use of the Scroll of Resurrect." Zeph suggests.
Zeph will help the archon gather gear and will ask for identification of the rings, but hes pretty sure they are rings of protection. Zeph will suggest selling the swords, lances, daggers, and rings that cannot be utilized.
Zeph will also help Keela memorize Protection from Evil and will copy Detect Thoughts into his own book.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Tuesday September 14th, 2010 7:07:41 PM DM Cayzle wrote: "On the morning of the third day, Charek is contacted by Katarina." I, as Jet's player, will not want to step on the toes of the other players when they are addressed, nor will I have Jet take the lead roll in a situation unless he completely disagrees with Garret, which only happened once at Bryn Baraz, after I realized a Diplomacy check would be at a -10.
Jet nods his head before remembering he has to think for the spell to work, "The use of the Raise Dead scroll was my idea. Few disagreed with the idea and even fewer wanted to go, but in the end, we were a team and did the right thing. We will need to replace them as well as common supplies, with a simple way of hauling our supplies keeping it fresh as well as light. Please offer suggestions, for staying on the run and light is essential."
Jet will go into great detail on their visit to the Realm of Shadows and even relate to her the things that Gargul said about the lizards not being a threat to the Wold itself, "Whatever that is supposed to mean?"
Jet will go on to ask if there is time, "Can you tell us if they have explored and found the back entrance? What of the guards we left at the back entrance into the Dire bat cave and pool of water?"
Keela Tuesday September 14th, 2010 10:05:37 PM
Keela does not have anything specific to add to her companions' reports, beyond an occasional, "Yes, that's right."
If possible, she also sends her love to her family.
DM Cayzle - Clarity and Communications Tuesday September 14th, 2010 10:30:23 PM
OOC: I'm sorry guys. It was all clear in *my* head ... I just never gave you anything like the right ideas. When Katarina gets in touch, she scries Charek with a crystal ball type device that the Star Mages have. She casts Message to communicate with Charek and any of you that are within line of scryght, so to speak. So this gives anyone who wants to have been near Charek at the time of scrying a chance to talk with Katarina as well. But at no point do you see her -- you just hear her whispered voice. After that, she breaks the connection, calls on her Light Archon (not a summoned creature, but one she has bound to her service for favors), and send him to you to move goods back and forth, one 50-lb cargo capacity greater teleport trip at a time.
Back in character again ... Several work together to give Katarina a full report. She has no problem with you using the scroll, but she does say that she does not have another one for you.
Charek suggests heading back to the mine tomorrow.
Alexi and Keela send messages to loves ones. Alexi is eager to harass lizard-folk.
Katarina approves of freeing slaves. Maybe you will learn something from them. But on a longer term basis, start thinking about how to restore operations at the mine, she asks.
Zeph details the loot and sends the oversized weapons, but not the armor, back to Katarina. She sends the archon to you with a receipt. Do you want to send the rings to be Identified?
Jet gives his report too, and tells about the meeting with Gargul. "He said the lizards are not a threat to the Wold itself -- Whatever that is supposed to mean?" She offers an opinion. "Probably it means that if villages or cities or nations fall, it is nothing to Gargul. He has bigger fish to fry. and given recent events, maybe he does." She tells you, for example, about a group of heroes that triggered earthquakes and the rearrangement of a continent lately. Maybe the god was thinking of that.
Jet also asks, "Can you tell us if they have explored and found the back entrance? What of the guards we left at the back entrance into the Dire bat cave and pool of water? She pauses and answers Jet: "I'll try to scry it when I can and get back to you. Don't do anything rash."
Any other comments to the wizard?
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Wednesday September 15th, 2010 2:40:16 AM
Zeph does ask that the rings be identified, if it seems that the are all the same, then just identify one or two to save some money... but I'm sure that the Mage's guild got identifications down to a science.
"The Ahote can keep the armor and break down the raw materials for weapons and armor for their own people. That armor can make a lot of arrow heads. Heck, you guys can even keep the extra rings if they are better served in your hands. Also, the large sized daggers also dub as a normal sized Short Sword." Zeph suggests, not wanting to get greedy with anything, especially considering that many of the Ahote died in procuring the items. He will show some strong looking young Ahote how to properly stab for vital organs with one of the Large Daggers as a Short Sword.
Then Zeph speaks to Katirana, "I'm thinking we should start heading back to Bryn Baraz, but keep our distance and not engage them openly. We will wait for your scrying before setting out a plan to retake the place... that is if we decide to tr to retake it. Hopefully it gets the attention of the floating lizard city and they come after us... why chase when you can lure... but I'm a bigger picture kind of thinker." Zeph says, hoping his plan sounds good.
Sneak, wait, strike when info is acquired... and see what happens. Whatcha think?
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Wednesday September 15th, 2010 1:06:05 PM
"We don't want you to "give" us another scroll of Raise Dead, but we should likely buy one or two more with our loot."
What does she mean, don't do anything rash? Know it all wizards get on my nerves. I likely have more wisdom and common sense then she does! Jet thinks outside of the message spell, not really knowing, or caring, if he is heard by the others?"
Jet disagrees with Zeph, "The Ahote are safe. If I felt they were not, I would agree they need to be more properly equipped, but at this time, we need the supplies and resouces more then they. We already saved their people by using our own resources to bring them back a leader. Now, it is time for them to fend for themselves. I will suggest we do not come back here until our conflicts are over, to insure we are not leading our enemies to our friends."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Wednesday September 15th, 2010 3:48:43 PM
"Indeed, Jet, we should avoid here, knowing what may be following us. Let us head out towards the mines at first light, and hopefully Katarina will get back with us before we get too close. We'll keep our heads down, just in case, as we get closer. It would be good if we could get back in through the back entrance, but do remember that flaming trap they had set up for us."
Keela Wednesday September 15th, 2010 4:55:07 PM
"I agree that we should not return to the Ahote," Keela says. "But I think it might be prudent for us to set up a base camp. Somewhere not too far from the mine, but hidden as best we can from the lizard-folk. It would be nice to have someplace to fall back to, if we needed it."
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Wednesday September 15th, 2010 11:03:46 PM
Alexi suggests giving the large daggers with the Ahote, since they are non-magical and probably won't bring much in coin. The other 'gear' can be left too, since they all go with the lizard mounts, but we need to keep the rope.
The rest will bring a fair amount of coin. Alexi believes that ALL the rings should be identified. "It won't cost all that much and worth it to know for sure what each one does. I think we should give one ring to Muata. He's the chief, y'know."
OOC: I think there's 6 of us and 10 rings. If one goes to Muata in honor of Dasan, and one goes to the new shaman in honor of Istaqa, that still leaves two extra to sell or keep. I'd say sell.
IC: "Perhaps we should leave before first light. We don't want to be seen coming out of the valley. I want to be well away from the valley when the sun crests."
Alexi spends the rest of the time getting the horses ready, making sure the saddles, bridles, and such are in good shape.
Before he hits the sack, he pays a visit to Mui'ama and wishes her well with the lizards. He gives her a kiss on the cheek and says, "we will be going back to our town to fight the lizardmen again. May I have a lock of your hair for good luck?"
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Thursday September 16th, 2010 2:30:19 AM
Zeph agrees that identifying them all seems good. He already has a ring of Protection+1, so if that's what it is, then i'll take mine in cash.
Zeph pats Jet on the shoulder and says, "Outvoted mate. These guys need the stuff more than we do. They may be facing Lizardfolk in the near future as well ya know. Were still gunna sell the Bastard Swords, Lances and leftover rings, so don't worry, you can have some of my share."
"Also, Alexi may be right, we should leave as early as possible, just let me get a bit of sleep, I may have to do some trap-finding in the morning." Zeph says as he sets his bed and takes a few last looks at a spell, hoping to memorize it in his sleep.
He is still wearing his black with white letter "Jesus saves, everyone else takes 5d6 points of damage." t-shirt beneath his mithril chain.
(OOC: I think I will start making a Pathfinder version of Zeph pretty soon. I'm thinking Rogue4/Illusionist1/Avengerx... and could I swap him to a Half-Elf since they are actually a playable race in Pathfinder? Actually... nevermind, think I'll stay human... actually, I'm at an indecision.)
DM Cayzle - Sorry Thursday September 16th, 2010 7:47:56 AM
Real life got real busy. Very sorry. DM Post later today.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Thursday September 16th, 2010 11:42:19 AM
Garret nods in agreement with Alexi and Zeph's ideas of what to do with the gear. "Indeed, the Ahote may be better served by some of these items, especially if they are attacked again."
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Thursday September 16th, 2010 3:16:32 PM
Jet looks down as Zeph again, pats him on the shoulder and growls, unconcerned at being out voted or not, and in a low rumbling voice asks, "Why do you insist on touching me? If you are doing it to annoy me, I will warn you, I'm not a nice person when in that mood."
He shakes his head and walks away to prepare for the morrow. "I think our best bet for a home base would be somewhere in the caves below the mines. At least they can not get to us in numbers that way, if we are discovered, as well, we can block passages with debris, unlike the open plains where they can fly those...those...things anywhere they desire."
DM Cayzle - Planning and moving out Thursday September 16th, 2010 7:00:57 PM
Zeph offers guidance on IDing the magic items. He proposes some recon, with the idea that after the scrying, one option is to retake the mine and set a trap for the city forces when they come.
Jet thinks the Ahote are safe, but they will better stay that way if the heroes do not lead the enemy back to them.
Garret suggests a sneaky return through the back door. But he is wary of traps.
Keela suggests setting up a base camp near to Bryn Baraz.
Alexi has ideas for the loot as well. Moreover, he suggests giving a ring each to Muata and Mui'ama. He asks Mui'ama for a lock of hair. She blushes deeply, but cuts a long lock for him. "You have been good to us," she says, "remember me, and my people, by this gift." Looking down, she asks for a lock of Alexi's hair in return.
It seems the group will leave the large daggers, armor, beasts, and tackle with the Ahote. Also two rings? The party will claim the coins, bastard swords, lances, and leftover rings.
You all set out long before dawn, so as to be as stealthy as possible. In about two or three days you can get to the mine, maybe longer if you go slow, wander, and cover your route. Plans for travel? For watches? For the approach?
DM Cayzle - Two renegades Thursday September 16th, 2010 7:08:01 PM
Leaving two dead kothrul at the top of the cliff they scaled to escape, two mining slaves -- now former mining slaves -- sneak away. They carry with them precious little beyond the loot they quickly scavenged from the kothrul, some leather armor, a couple weapons. They head into the dry grassy hills surrounding the mine, knowing that very soon an alarm will be raised, and a hunt begun.
[OOC: Welcome to Kristel and Jon. This post is for their new characters. You two can feel free to start posting. We'll finish up PC sheet details in e-mail. Note that the two groups remain unaware of each other, so put on your role-playing blindfolds, boys and girls, and no peeking. Do feel free to offer an OOC hello to our new players, of course.]
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Thursday September 16th, 2010 7:35:30 PM
"Let's head out in the morning. I'm not sure we need to completely hide our tracks, but I think we should stay near to cover, in case the floating island shows up. I'm thinking we can't afford to take on the whole army at once."
"It will be easier, I think, if we keep the same watch each night: I'll take first watch with Zeph. Sjurd, Hmark, and Charek can take that midnight watch, hopefully not seeing a thing. Then Jet, Keela and Alexi can take that last watch."
"Let's be off!"
Charek Thursday September 16th, 2010 10:01:40 PM
The Doughty dwarf gets a bit to drink accepts whatever loot comes his way and tries to relax knowing now that they are soon headed back to the mine.
(OOC: Welcome back Kristal and John)
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Thursday September 16th, 2010 10:56:20 PM
OOC: Kristal and John welcome to the Uncharted Heroes. This adventure is as fun as you make it. I've been having a blast!. :}
DM: i don't know what the Ahote are going to do with large magical plate armor. they can't wear them, nor can they resize them, or utilize the metal without destroying the magic. I was thinking we were going to sell them. We can ustilize the proceeds to buy studded or chain armor for all the warriors with that loot and have some left over.
I thought we were going to leave only the large daggers and miscelaneuse gear, or the lances if they can use them. Is that what you guys were thinking too?
IC: Alexi blushes even deeper than Mui'ama at her request. With a shaky hand he severs a good long lock of hair. With a leather strip he ties the lock into a bundle and does the same with hers.
"May Catori, the Spirit Mother, protect you. We shall return..." Alexi starts to get choked up and lets his thougths trail off. He tucks her lock inside his shirt and with one last glance at Mui'ama, heads to his camp.
Well before sunrise Alexi makes sure the horses are ready. Even though everyone is a rider, he still does his duty to make sure the saddles are on properly and the cinches tight.
"When we leave, it would probably be best to head outward, away from our main direction for a while. Does anyone have any magic that can hide our trail?"
Alexi agrees with the Watch order. While marching, he takes up a spot in the center so he can be available to either flank or front or rear.
OOC: one of you guys was using Lupin, do you want to pick up your own mount from the Ahote horses or continue using Lupin? Otherwise Alexi will leave Lupin with the Ahote.
IC: "You know, I really don't look forward to bringing our horses back through the underground river. Wish there was another way in."
Keela Friday September 17th, 2010 1:55:51 AM
Keela makes her preparations and sets out with the others. She rides toward the rear of the goup, as befits a squishy wizard, and frets about how they are going to get into the mine.
[OOC Welcome Kristel and Jon]
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Friday September 17th, 2010 2:32:43 AM
OOC: Cayzle said that since the Archon can only teleport 50lbs of equipment at a time, and the Armor weighs upwards of 200lbs, we cannot sell it to the catacombs. The lances are large and cannot be used too efficiently by anyone here like the Short Swords (Large Dagger). I'm curious to see what the Rings are though.
Zeph nods in agreement with Garret and Alexi. "Yeah, I don't like the idea of going underground with horses either, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do..." Zeph says, thinking of a sad monkey giving a thumbs-up.
Charek Friday September 17th, 2010 8:23:49 AM
Charek looks around at his companions in disbelief.
"Umm guys there is no way the hoirses are going to make that trip. they would have to go and stay underwater for a long period of time. I doubt any of you have that much control over your horses."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Friday September 17th, 2010 1:49:35 PM
Garret nods to Charek, "Oh yes, they certainly won't be going that far underground. But they could come with us up to the point where the water begins. Was that not underground?"
OOC: I think I checked this last time, but I forget now -- what speed are we traveling on horseback? Garret would prefer to run along the ground, but would travel at a speed of 40. If that's slower than the horses, he'll ride.
Charek Friday September 17th, 2010 4:56:52 PM
Not really the exterior entrance to the under ground tunnel is the oasis. you dive down to get to the passage which is all under water until you come up in the cave. It is how/where we left our ponies with the two Ahote when we first came to join you all.
Alexi (AC: 19/11, HP:58/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:37/37) Friday September 17th, 2010 9:29:39 PM
OOC: true about the large magical armor, with only a 50lb limit per trip, they probably weigh much more than 50lb each. So I guess it's only the rings and b-swords that go.
IC: "If my memory is correct, the underwater passage was a stream that ran [i[out[/i] of the caves and into the oasis lake. It was hard enough to get the horses underwater going downstream. If we enter that way, they would be underwater and going UP stream. But I don't like leaving the horses outside and un-attended either. I don't want them to give away our possition nor get eaten.
"There's got to be a safer place. Perhaps Tarketh's grove is still intact. There is plenty of vegetation there to hide them and for them to have grass to eat. We'll have to scout out the place first."
Alexi reminds Jet of the place above the mine entrance where they found the puma. "Might be a good observation point."
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Saturday September 18th, 2010 5:01:44 AM
Here is Zeph's Pathfinder character sheet: Figured he would be level 7 by the time we swap over. Tell me whatcha think? Zeph Pathfinder
DM Cayzle - setting out. Saturday September 18th, 2010 11:27:57 AM
OOC to All: Really sorry for bad posting this week. I'll try harder next week. Also regarding horses, I assume that the Ahote will give you up to 12 if you need them. Light warhorses, these would be. Also, we will gloss over our losses and hereafter assume that Hmark and Sjurd are staying here ... see below).
OOC to Zeph: You know we have not even revamped the Avenger for PF yet! LOL!
That night, before you set out, Muata comes to wish you good luck. He wants you to know that you will always have a place here. He has a special gift for each of you.
To Zeph, Garret, and Charek, he gives a (nonmagical) ring, carved of wood and ivory strands entwined together. "As the bone of the earth is entwined with the fruit of Mother Wold, so we stand fast entwined in friendship. Thank you for what you have done for us."
To Keela, he offers a fine stone trowel with a warm wood handle. It is most excellent in its design and function. Muata says, "This belonged to Isstaqua, and he used it in his own plantings. [OOC: This is a masterwork trowel, weight 1 lb, that gives +2 on all Profession Farmer and Profession Herbalist checks.]
To Jet, he gives a set of hard leather gloves, reinforced with bands of iron. "These were my father's, which he wore in battle, made for him by Isstaqua. Please wear them well and remember them."
To Alexi, the Ahote chief gives a fine lance. "Now that I carry my father's lance, let me give this to you, which I myself carried. May it serve you as well as it served me."
He says he will keep the armor here for now, and you can claim it when you will. Currently it will just slow you down.
In the night, Bantom, Jet's friend and mount, comes to visit him. "My friend and first master, these people need me. They put on a brave face, but their strength is gone. I hear them talk among themselves, and they could use my strength. Don't think badly of me, but I must stay."
Echoing the talking horse, Sjurd and Hmark have also decided to stay here. The Ahote will need them if they are attacked. And this gives them honorable exits from the game. Garret, you will have to rejigger your watches, please.
In the morning you set out. (Your kindly DM assumes all are mounted, on your own beasts, or on Ahote light warhorses.) Alexi wishes there were a way to cover your trail. But by going slowly and carefully, you can minimize it, you think.
Keela worries how they will get into the mine. Talk swings to the back door ... the pool, its underwater passage, and the caves beyond. Alexi hates to leave the horses behind. Zeph thinks dragging the horses through may be the only way. Charek is doubtful. You all recall that last time, you cast Water Breathing on them.
Alexi sugests Tarketh's grove. And remembers a possible vantage point.
The first day passes uneventfully.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 53/48 ; Bantom AC:19 HP: 51/51) Saturday September 18th, 2010 5:13:08 PM Wrapping things up
Jet bows gratefully to the new Ahote chief and places the gauntlets in his hands. He can feel the power of his muscles swell as the ancient tribal magic surges through his veins. He stops to consider that this fine young man might need them, but he also remembers the customs of gift giving and would not insult these people. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart. The blood of our enemies will cover these gifts time and time again."
With Bantom, Jet knew this time would come. Once again, he looses someone close to him. Bantom was a trusted friend before he bacame intelligent and now, he does indeed have the right to do as he feels is needed. That has always been a thing Jet thought fondly of, individuality. "You are not getting away so easy my friend. From what I understand, I paid a pretty penny for you. You in turn will embrace the flanks of these fine steeds the Ahote raise and they will have powerful children from your seed. I think it would be fair if I were to receive the first born from your herd each season, to train properly for war. I will treat them as well as you have been."
Then Jet walks over and unties the barding, "If you do need to go to war for these people, let them put this back on you so you will be protected." Jet, being unarmored at the moment then casts his Enlarge Person spell on himself and says, "One last match for old time sake my friend." Jet then begins a grapple with his old time friend.
In the morning, Jet will have Vaya prepared for his war saddle. He will take one other horse from the Ahote as his supply animal.

Keela Sunday September 19th, 2010 10:50:51 PM
Keela drops a solemn curtsey to Muata. "Thank you," she says. "One day I will have a home of my own, and I will use Isstaqua's trowel to plant herbs and vegetables all around it."
She politely declines the offer of a horse, preferring to continue riding Daisy. [OOC to DM: Daisy is a heavy riding horse, if you're keeping track. :) ]
Zeph AC22 HP 42/42 Monday September 20th, 2010 10:11:14 AM
Zeph will gladly accept a horse, and name him Shadow III... since I can't seem to keep track of whether or not I have a horse and this is my third replacement...
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Monday September 20th, 2010 1:23:57 PM
When presented with the ring, Garret bows and says, "I am humbled and honored to accept such a gift from your people. I will cherish this gift and fondly remember the Ahote." He places the ring on his finger and admires it for a moment before turning and checking his belongings for the trip.
Garret watches in amazement as Jet enlarges himself and wrestles with his horse. When they are done, Garret just looks at them, not saying a word.
When Sjurd and Hmark mention that they will be staying with the Ahote, Garret says to them, "We have been together long, and I will fondly remember our times traveling far across the Wold together. If it is in the fates, perhaps we shall meet again. Until that time, I wish you good fortunes and peace."
In the morning, as the group sets out, Garret ponders the evening watch. "With our current numbers, I would suggest Jet and Zeph on first watch, Charek and I on midnight, and Keela and Alexi on last watch. If anyone should need more rest any night, I can easily stay awake for two watches. Any objections to that schedule?"
Garret passes most of the day, not saying much. He watches the land and the sky with interest, looking for signs of foul weather. He asks Alexi more about Tarketh's grove, thinking it would be good to have the horses at least somewhat hidden and safe in case the group needs to make a hasty exit once again.
Charek Monday September 20th, 2010 2:58:49 PM
Bowing low and thanking Muata for the ring, Charek immediately puts it on the finger opposite and yet equal with his Family's signet ring.
As for a beast, he chooses a calm and smaller one that will more easily one of his stature.
