Events and Actions in a Moon of Time, part 1 (DM SteveK)
Monday September 20th, 2010 11:51:27 AM

With gold (and thoughts) clinking, the Children of Chaos part to thier own pursuits for a short time.

Village of Taur
Torgon teleports himself to the Village of Taur. He finds that since the time the group fought the dragons, nothing really bad has occured in the village. What is a little startling is that the group has been gone for 3 months!

Yet since then, life has been getting back to normal in the small village. Fields are planted, herds are increasing, and there are some brave young taurs who have been exploring the caves of Dragon Mountain (as they are calling it) and bringing back bits of ore and some lost bits of treasure that was not found previously.

There has been a small group of dwarves with laden donkeys that arrived 2 weeks ago from the town of Wayfarer and set up a tent to begin a merchant house here in Taur. The leader admits the monks of Wayfarer 'encouraged' him to bring some speculation goods and find any new villages in this direction. "Amazing what those monks know", he remarks.

Cliffport
Rash teleports to her family farm outside of Cliffport and has a long overdue time with her family. Her husband is able to report that the increased activity of flying mountains, water changing color and other unusual phenomenon has stopped completely. "Thank the Powers!" And the farm is a relaxing domesticity, far enough from Cliffport to be able to get away from it all for a short time.

Heranmar

Xenia's display and general niceness about the Six Large Demon Swords has the bidding go fast and furious, and soon only the most prominent members of Heranmar can afford to bid on the swords brought back by thier champions, the Children of Chaos. Winners of the auction include Selenie Quendeck (who has hers displayed above the Heranmar Council Table), Harrin the Merchant, Chester (who displays his behind the bar at the INN), and a foreign merchant from Hook City buys the remaining 3 to cart to other markets. The total donations for the rebuilding of the monsetary? 240 gold!

Xenia spends 20 more days tinkering with her magic until she has increased the power of her Gloves and Periapt.

Kazak parties for a little in Heranmar, but he's got other contacts to work with too. Lots of stuff to keep busy for 20 days or so.

Peerimus gets with the Council of Heranmar and finds out what Torgon and Rash find from other areas; the Great Migration and the movement of land has stopped. Whew! The Council is also happy to say that Harrin has made contact with merchants and speculators from other communities in Cliffport, Wayfarer, Threshold, and Hook City. And there was even a half-elf who came through from a new settlement called Three Forks Inn. "He had two barrels of a wonderful ale called Mountainhome. I think Chester bought both of them. Expensive, but fine, so fine!"

In other news around Heranmar, the new wall is nearly complete and the militia have had no problems since the Marut several months ago. The only sadness to the town was the passing of Jala, Savin the Monk's old mentor who had migrated to Heranmar from Wayfarer in order to work a monk school. The woman was soon loved by many and will be greatly missed. Yet is appears that there are two young monks who have learned enough to continue the school in Heranmar. They renamed it the Savin-Jala School of the Open Hand.

In the Grove, Two-Stripe, Wanderwood, and Redtail are living and well.

Xenia (AC31, HP109/109)
Monday September 20th, 2010 1:16:59 PM

Days and days and days spent crafting magic stuff leaves lots of time to think. Lots and lots and lots of time. She should oughta do something. It's so different down here in the Southie Lands. And it's big. And it's crazy how almost no one in the whole of Yrth knows it's even down here!

Should oughta do sump'in. A trade mission. There's good stuff down here. Sump'in.

One of those many days following the fracas in the Valley of Ahl, Xenia stops off to chat with Holly on the way through to the Catacombs.

"Way I figure it, the best way to start sump'in goin' 'tween the South Lands and the North is through some sorta, you know, commerce. I'm leaving, pretty soon, Holly. Goin' back to look for Wynn. But a'fore I go, I wanna see if I can't start trade going a'tween the two lands."

"What do you think? What do you think would be some nice trade goods?"

Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180
Monday September 20th, 2010 3:25:45 PM

Torgon talks with everyone in the village, and gets an update on the training of his student. He will go before the council, and retell the events that have occurred, including the escape of the 6 armed demon with all the chaos tattoos. Torgon expresses his belief that hunting her down and removing her from the Wold has become a priority, before she can cause too much trouble, or kill too many innocents.

The Minotaur will then give half of the money that The Court of Law gave him to the council to do as they deem most beneficial. Whether that be split it amongst everyone, save it for when needed, or buy things for the village as a whole. He will use the other half to restock his potions and scrolls

Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180
Monday September 20th, 2010 3:26:58 PM

After a couple days, unless there is need for him to remain in the village, he will head to Heranmar and meet up with the other CoC, and take a trip to the catacombs.

Rash
Monday September 20th, 2010 4:45:35 PM

Rash heads home to spend some time with her husband and children reveling in the time with them. She smiles as she watches her children do chores around the house and chides them in their studies. Her husband a wizard in his own right has done a good job in seeing to their education. Rash does spend some time on their spiritual education as well, teaching them about the Powers in general, the Crones in particular. She will crow about her companions and downplay her own role in the adventures of the Children of Chaos.

As see sits on the porch swing at night with her head resting on her husband's shoulder, her hands will drift to her midsection and she will worry on how much longer she can safely adventure. Should she retire? Is she placing her unborn child at risk? Is she risking the lives of other mother's children if she does hang up the sword.

She gives her husband some money to help with hiring help for the farm and buying supplies ($500 gps) but soon duty drives her to her study and prayer room where she starts penning some scrolls for the future. (List to come soon!)

Rash enjoys her week but with tear filled eyes, heads back to Heranmar at the end of the week doubts still floating in her head and heart.

Durgan Stonewall (AC 38; HP 284/284)
Monday September 20th, 2010 7:08:34 PM

Durgan spends the time working at the forge at Heranmar's smithy. Good sweaty honest work. It makes him long for simpler days. And with the tattoo now gone, possibilities of returning home are finally open to him.

He donates all of the crafted weapons and armor to the militia.

Peerimus AC 25 HP 146/146 and Yorrick AC 41 HP 160/160
Monday September 20th, 2010 9:35:52 PM

After meeting with the council, Peerimus spends a few days in the woods relaxing and simply enjoying the outdoors. Then It is off to Hook City to meet a few days with the people there and t swing by the Mittirri temple to talk. Peerimus gives his Ring of Protection +4 to the Protector group, "Sell it in the Catacombs and distribute the monies for other equipment." The druid also goes tothe catacombs hiimself and purchases two Rings of Counter Spell.

Completing that, he returns to his Grove and awakens several more of the creatures and trees there.
[plan on casting Awaken 10 times on 4 huge trees in the grove and then on 6 other animals that he comes upon. 10 castings would tkae 2,500 xp]

Events and Actions in a Moon of Time, part 2 (DM SteveK)
Tuesday September 21st, 2010 1:22:53 PM

Heranmar

Xenia works and thinks about oughta do'in sump'in. Xenia stops off to chat with Holly on the way through to the Catacombs.

Holly thinks it is a good idea. "There was a sailing ship of liontaurs here several months ago that was looking into doing the exact same thing. I would be willing to provide some speculation goods and money to finance a mission like that. I'm sure there are some things here in Gateway Downs that have never been seen in your Northern Continent. And you know what? You would know what hasn't been seen there, wouldn't you?"

Durgan spends the time working at the forge at Heranmar's smithy, donating all of the crafted weapons and armor to the militia.

Village of Taur

Torgon talks with everyone in the village, his student, Sifthorn, and the Council of Elders. With the Council he sees that Tunderhof is not among them. The sad eyes of the others tell Torgon all he needs to know... Tunderhof is with the ancestors.

The Council accepts the gold with nods of highest praise for Torgon's abilities and consideration of the group. And together, they agree that Torgon should continue to travel with the Children of Chaos to protect the greater land of the Gateway Downs and to learn more of the land they have found themselves in.

Torgon trains with Sifthorn and finds her fighting studies are doing very well. Less well are the lessons in history and geography. "Why do I have to learn this stuff?" is a common complaint coming from the headstrong youngster.

Cliffport

Rash heads home to spend some time with her husband and children reveling in the time with them. The future, especially because of the young life in her womb, weighs heavily on the cleric.

Hook City

Peerimus spends a few days in the woods relaxing and simply enjoying the outdoors. Then It is off to Hook City. The immediate thing Peerimus notes is that Teleportation works between lands once more!!!
In the Temple of Mittri, the eldest tortoise Torm is there, a steadfast icon in a city of change. Katt and Amber are off on some business or other, but the old reptile is pleased to see the druid.
At Block 452, Peerimus meets with Madame Niobe and Madame Didi. They report the Block is doing well, and are very appreciative of the magical ring.

Firn'gaer
Tuesday September 21st, 2010 5:25:13 PM

Firn'gaer spends his time either relaxing or going from village to village in Gateway Downs. He doesn't stay long in any one spot for more than a day or two before moving on.

Peerimus AC 25 HP 146/146 and Yorrick AC 41 HP 160/160  d20+22=35 ; d20+22=40 ; d20+22=42 ;
Tuesday September 21st, 2010 9:12:48 PM

Peerimus spends some time speaking to Torm of all things in the natural world and of what he spoke to Kat and Amber of. The guardians of the natural Wold forming a loose alliance that would answer anothers call if the lands were in need. In a fw days though, he knows he must be off to begin hunting down the demona dn so he takes his leave.

Once home, peerimus will begin doing what he can to locate the creature on his own. His first thoughts are with several Heightened Greater Scrying spells. First he casts apair of Commune with nature spells and takes in all aspects of the 22 miles about the grove. He then casts the Greater scrying into the pool within his grove. [SR checks 35-40-42 with Will saves of 28 each]

Knowing success i less than assured he will Red tail to be on the lookout for Firngaer and to ask the gnome wizard to stop by when he can. The group has given the demon nearly a 2 week head start already and that was enough for him. It was time the hunt began.

Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180
Wednesday September 22nd, 2010 8:24:02 AM

Torgon is saddened at the loss of Tunderhof, but pleased that the council wishes him to continue to travel with the CoC. While dangerous and rather painful, he hasn't had this much fun in years.

Torgon spends some time refining Sifthorns combat skills, and then chastises her for her lack of attention to history and geography. "History teaches us of where we have come from, and geography teaches us where we are going. In this new land we are now part of, it is more important than ever to be aware of what is around us, while not losing who we are as a people." Torgon hopes that while not wise enough to see their value, she is smart enough to learn it anyway.

Torgon will prepare to leave the next morning, packing up his gear and saying good bye to everyone. He will then teleport to outside of Heranmar and rejoin the group.

Firn'gaer relaxes a little and then spends his time going from village to village in Gateway Downsm, helping out and checking things out. (Need some Skill Checks to see if he sees anything)

Peerimus spends some time speaking to Torm, who is very aware of the conversation with Katt and the druid. "It is time for the land to have an awareness", states the old tortoise, "and the Temple of Mittani will be the focal point for your dream here in Hook City."

Once home, Peerimus will begin doing what he can to locate the creature on his own. First, he casts a pair of Commune with Nature spells and takes in all aspects of the 22 miles about his Grove. While he can't percieve anything within the walls of Heranmar, nor inside three large farmsteads within 22 miles, he is able to determine that there are no major monsters in the area (and anything else he specifically wants to know). The Marilith is not within sensing distance. He then casts Greater Scrying into the pool within his grove, looking for the demoness. The pool only reveals a dark, foggy mass...

RedTail, the newly Awakened hawk, agrees to help the druid, and within a couple of days, Firngaer has a visit. "The Druid of the Woods asks the gnome wizard to come to the Grove. It is time for the hunt to began."

Torgon conducts his business with the Council, the memory of Tunderhof, and the chastisement of Sifthorn. Then, all affairs in order, the minotaur teleports to outside of Heranmar and rejoins the group.

Rash arrives back to Heranmar looking rested, recharged and happy. "So did anyone find our demon friend so we can hunt him down?" From the sour look from Peerimus, he has had less than the best of luck.

Xenia makes a list for trading with the Continent of Yrth. It may be difficult to get Steel Grass or Memory Stones, but Prarie Pig or Three Forks Stingroot and barrels of the Mountainhome or gourds of GlassGrass Wine should be more plentiful...

Rash
Thursday September 23rd, 2010 9:52:00 AM

Rash sees the look on Peerimus's face and shakes her head sadly. She will pat his cheek and say, "Don't be frustrated dear, let me see if the Powers favor me today. Maybe I can help." Rash will cast her Discern location spell remembering what the demon looked like from the battle. If she finds the location, she will say a bit smugly, "Never send a man to do a woman's job. They bungle it everytime. Its amazing how my husband can burn water while cooking."

If she doesn't find the demon, "She will look a bit concerned and say, "This demon is powerfully protected from scrying if that didn't work. He has friends in very ....very high places to avoid it."

Thursday September 23rd, 2010 9:52:45 AM

The dwarven warrior relaxes around town ..... taking the two weeks as a vacation .....he of course makes sure his equipment is ready at a moments notice .....

He checks on the quarry ..... but he also travels around the outskirts of town ..... looking for a piece of land .... either to build a farm or buy one .....would be a nice retirement setting ......

When the time comes he joins the rest of the children for the hunt for the escaped Demon

Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180
Thursday September 23rd, 2010 10:39:05 AM

Torgon listens to Rash and Peerimus discuss the demon hunt, and waits to see if Rash's spell will work. If it doesn't, Torgon will offer the following."I don't know if it will work if Discern location won't, but if need be, I could use my deck draw to solve my dilemma. If we run out of other options that is."

Steel Grass
Memory Stones ...
Prairie Pig (see about capturing a live one.)
Three Forks Stingroot
Mountainhome Ale
GlassGrass Wine

Xenia reviews her list as she waits for the prospective applicants to arrive. All in all, it might not be too good an idea to bring a live Prairie Pig along. Could put most folks off of their appetite. Is sorta interesting, though. And it would be nice to see if they can raised someplace in the north. That one's a 'Maybe'.

She had placed a sign in the town square to meet her here for work.

Hiring Runners. Must like people. Charm a plus.

That's what the sign had said. "Alright. I need folks to go to the following places. Hook City. Wayfarer. Threshold. Three Forks. The Three Forks job pays extra. We're sending teams of three with one team of four going to Hook. The job is to get to your destination, ask about this six-arm demon girl everywhere you can, and then come back and report. The job pays 100 gold. 200 for Three Forks. Do I have any takers?"

While waiting for the runners to return, Xenia finishes off the work on her bow. There's still a component to install if it is to be a masterwork, but that can wait for another day.

Events and Actions in a Moon of Time, part 4 (DM SteveK)
Saturday September 25th, 2010 9:25:35 AM

It has been an entire month.
........................

Clearly, the end of the Great Migration is finally ended. The artifacts, working together, have stabilized the Southern Continent, and it looks like an era of peace and prosperity is possible in this part of the Wold.

- Heranmar, Threshold, Cliffport, and Wayfarer have exchanged liasons with each working local government. Taur and Three Forks have agreed to soon follow suit.

- Merchant convoys are beginning to reach to all the settlements in Gateway Downs, and even to Hook City. Though they still require guards for the normal sort of bandits and dangers, the problems of serious monsters seems to have been much reduced.

- A ship of liontaur sailors have stopped at Three Forks, Cliffport, Heranmar, and Hook City making trades and speculation to begin opening a trade route with the Tauric Isles.

- There is no scout that has gone to other lands beyond Gateway Downs or Hook City.
.......................

Many of the CoCs individual projects are coming to fruition too.

- Heranmar's quarry and smithy are up and running enough to provide stone and metal of various type and grade to not only the town but for some trade, too. Also, the militia seems to be able to stand on its own feet, not just for police work, but for a fairly competent defense force of the town. The stonemasons and smiths and militia all have high praises for Durgan and Kazak.

- Peerimus' vision of a mutual watch/aid group to support the best interests of the natural order of things is up too. The centaur tribe is scouting the wilder areas of Gateway Downs, The Temple of Mittani is in Hook City, several Awakened Trees are now in the region, and an Awakened Vine about the budding chapel of Rash's. And Bunwit the Fisherman has hesitantly reported a contact with a triton ranger who says she will speak with the druid about the group.

- Xenia's thoughts of searching for Wynn are closer to action. She diligently has worked on her equipment, and is busy in talking with Holly (who brought in Bunwit the Fisherman) in building a sea-going ship to take advantage of a trade route to Yrth and Elennia (no need for the liontaurs to have a monopoly, eh?

- Firn'gaer's sanctum by the lake near what used to be Wane is coming along. With the gnome's work, it will soon be ready for habitation. With the new level of prosperity and peace in the region, it should also be easier for the gnome wizard to lure more adventurous persons to the area to begin a new settlement!

- Rash' chapel/temple is coming along with the quarry and smithy able to supply most building materials, and woodsmen coming in with stout timbers for the rest. There is only one silversmith/jeweler in Heranmar, but Hook City is only a teleport away, and decorations of whatever she wants is to be had in that most magical of cities. Her family is also doing well, and her husband is finally starting to budge about the thought of moving... if she wants.

- Torgon has a clear mission from the Council, and can keep as busy as he want in learning about all these races of people and how they are able to live/work together in relative peace.
.............................

The remainder of the month has been in search of that Chaos Tattooed Marilith. In using every means possible except for a Wish or the abilities from the Deck of Many Things artifact, the heroes are without luck. Even spells contacting the Powers give no answer other than "I may not interfere in this matter" and "Balance so recently restored is fragile".

All scryings only reveal a rolling gray fogginess. No scouts report any activity as far as 2 weeks travel from Wayfarer, Threshold, Cliffport, Three Forks, Heranmar, or Hook City.

Peerimus AC 25 HP 146/146 and Yorrick AC 41 HP 160/160  d20+21=39 ;
Saturday September 25th, 2010 12:44:12 PM

Peerimus is more than happy to speak with the Triton ranger. As there is nothing more he can do to possibly find the Demon and perhaps there is no real need. Perhaps they best that they may manage is make sure the threat is not forgotten. The demon is immortal the demon....Peerimus's train of thought shifts, the demons went to the Sawgrass and home is safe, but now it was time to expand that zone of prosperity.

"I will be gone for a few days to find and speak with the Triton Bunwit encountered. Our homes are safe, I do not think that only after 1 month we need resort to such power as that drived from the Deck. In our fight in Ahl, the portal opened above the Sagrass. When I return, let us travel to the plains of grass."

Peerimus will head to the shores off Heranmar, shift into a Basking shark and swim out into the seas in search of the Triton. The ranger wants to be found and so Peerimus simply asks directions from the locals as he goes. Another mission as he is out is to locate a younger mated pair of whales. If he locates some, he Awakens them as well as any calf they may have.

When he locates the triton, Peerimus speaks about trade with Heranmar and the goods that Hook City, Taur, Three Forks, Thresold and Wayfarer that could be found through Heranmar. Peerimus does not bring up the Palace of the Tritons but will not avoid or deflect if the ranger brings it up. [Diplomacy 39]

Rash
Saturday September 25th, 2010 5:06:14 PM

Rash inspects the temple and is happy with the progress. (OK I admit I totally forgot about it in real life. Not sure how long ago we started that! If memory serves she had found a couple of lower level clerics to administrate it but that could be wishful thinking)

Rash is a bit surprised that her discern location spell didn't work but she will have the group over for some dinner and say, "I don't think we should pursue the demon matter any farther. Yes that might come back and bite us some day but we have to remember that we aren't responsible for combating all of the evil in the world. Others must do their share and frankly the one demon while dangerous isn't a menace that folks with our power and responsibility should be wasting time on chasing. We can and will keep an ear out and Xenia's plan for paying for information is valid but that is as far as we should go at this point. Teleporting from city to city hoping to get a lucky break seems......" Rash pauses struggling for words, "well desperate. I do think we need to come up with some goals or plans to help this Wold.

We are finally free of the tattoos and can look after our own goals. A way to leave our mark on the Southern Isle. Is it building a huge cathedral? A school for fighter training? An Inn where adventurers can rest, recharge and buy supplies and information to aid good? I don't know. I do know we finally have the freedom to decide.

Right now we are all going off and doing our own things. Is there any one project that we all could combine our efforts in to leave as our legacy? Does anyone have any ideas?"

Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180

"While I agree that we cannot search the entire Wold for the Marilith, I think Peerimus is right, and we should at least check the sawgrass plains. If that was where she was sent, the least we can do is take a look. If there's no sign of her there, then she could be anywhere, so we may have to let the matter rest."

"While we do not have to save the entire Wold, I would prefer that a demon loosed upon the Wold by our actions, even indirectly, be returned whence she came."

That is all Torgon has to say upon the matter, and will leave the matter to Peerimus and Rash to decide. Torgon will take advantage of his position in Heranmar, and as a member of the CoC to learn all he can about how all the peoples and races of the various areas coexist. He will also make every effort to acquire all the maps that he can of the known areas. He will spend up to 5000gp on maps and books of the people and areas. Whatever he can get ahold of, he will study and then return them to his village for future use.

Xenia (AC31, HP109/109)

The explanation isn't too complex, but the trade between the draft and various other elements of hull design and the size of a cargo are things that had never occurred to the dark girl rogue. Not until it's explained to her the fisherman.

"I figure it's gonna be a long trip, Bunwit. For the first trip I'd sacrifice a little cargo space for speed. Also, you never know what you're gonna be running into out there either." Xenia sweeps her finger along the plans for the new ship, running the tip along the hull. "Lets go with your idea for a shallower draft, 'kay?"

************************************

"Well, you see, I figure I'm gonna have to market this stuff as high priced exotics at first, Holly," the rogue explains in discussion with the elf. "The ale and the wine will likely travel best, so we'll start with those. Probs also bring a case or two of dried Prairie Pig along as sample snacks. Test the market with 'em."

"Too bad we can't cage one of them Rapke guys and take it along for display. I think that would really be sump'in to show off.

************************************

For another four days, Xenia works on kneading magic into her masterwork bow. Dangling her crystal over the bow, she slowly folds the magic into the wood.

"You guys find that Snake Girl, you know where to get me," she tells the others one morning over breakfast. "I'll be setting up the trade mission or working on my bow."

"Agreed." He says to Torgon's comment. "Even worse, didn't that demon have a Mark from contact with the Bell? I'm afraid for what that pure evil will do to the power of the Bell. We know what happens to regions of the Wold when a demon stays too long."

"This may seem like a silly question, but do we know where the Sawgrass Plains are since the migration?"

A Moon Time Passed (DM SteveK)
Monday September 27th, 2010 4:46:20 PM

Xenia is happy with her newfound project, and Bunwit begins construction on a ocean-going ship. The beginning is a little slow, because the first thing that has to happen is building the cradle to construct such a large craft; 90 feet long, 20 foot beam at midship, and a shallow draft of 6 feet fully loaded. She is a ketch design with two masts: a tall, square-rigged foremast (with lookout), and a shorter triangular sailed mast aft; and a long spinnaker for more sail. "Good for maneuverability", says the expert Bunwit. The cradle and ship will take at least 6 months to build.

Peerimus finds his family of whales; a group of 4 Gray Whales several miles off. To happy happenstance, the triton ranger is watching as the Whales are Awakened, and it is Tieria! Since the female triton knows all about the adventure on the Sea Mount, there is no need to speak of it. Instead, Tieria wastes little words. "The clans gathered and agreed that some contact with air-breathers is allowed. I was tasked to find a group that can be trusted, and I could only think of you. I suggest that you and I are liasons with our peoples, and let contact be limited to avoid unnecessary conflicts."

The debate goes on as to if the group should check out the Sargrass or completely give up finding the Marilith with the Chaos Tattoos. Firn'gaer's thoughts about what the demon could do with not one, but SEVEN Chaos Tattoos, well, it is sobering. And while spells have been used, the benefits of the artifact Deck of Many Things hasn't been utilized. Neither has hard earned skills been checked....

When leaving for a long sea voyage, you gotta take stock of all the stuff you got. And so one evening finds Xenia in her room surrounded by neatly piled arrays of her vast horde of Stuff. Piece by piece the things come out of her magic haversack to be organized and mentally catalogued. And when she comes to it, she knows.

The dark knit fabric feels so soft against her cheek. Right then and there she stops, halts the inventory and skinnies out of her clothing and climbs into the body suit that Tishe had made for her. This is it. Tomorrow, she'd go to Hook City.

********************************

"Madame Weaver? I'm Xenia, Alexandria Merryman Next. Remember me? We met at the party? For the Protectors 877?" It hadn't been too hard to find her way to Block 452. The hard thing had been just getting into the city in the first place. Good thing she thought to drop the block protector name that the Chaos Guys had set up. 823. What a weerdo number. Good thing she even 'membered it. But with that one word, the gate guards checked her name and she went right on through. And now here she is. "I met your daughter Tishe in a grass dome in the Sargrass. She told me about your wonderful woven textiles. I'd like to discuss the possibility of setting up a trade relationship with you to export to Yrth in the far north ... "

********************************

Later that evening, the dark rogue roams the docks. Her scouts are around here somewhere, but as long as she's here, might as well do some looking around herself. A six armed snake woman. As if that weren't enough, this one is covered with swirly tattoos. There's no way to ask subtly about something like that. Xenia goes from tavern to tavern asking sailors, dockworkers and the like for any news about Snake Girl.

The dwarf scouts the outskirts of Heranmar for a suitable plot of land ....for farming and retirement ...... with all the changes that has occurred from the great migration the Heranmar region is perfect for his plans (Is there a map of all the changes so we could all plot and plan things ;-)

Wooded area and water nearby is essential ......a little rock formation is of course a plus ;-)

Otherwise Kazak keeps in contact with the rest of the children of chaos . in his rounds around Heranmar .... taking sometime at the quarry and of course some training with the local guards .....

All the while thoughts whirl around in his head ...... " Not many dwarves around these parts ....or even in the region itself ..... gotta work out some ideas of forming some type of group ..... band of dwarven brothers and sisters ....... yeah ..... a dwarven alliance ......of some sort ....."

DM SteveK: The changed map of Gateway Downs is in the Wikipedia Geography section. No one has a map of the entire Southern Continent. Because it occasionally changes and the people are still fairly xenophobic about anyone not of thier region, no cartographer has had the inclination, market, or use for one.

She is also curious if any other clerics have visited and expressed a desire to stay and learn.

Rash will abide the groups decision to go to the Sargrass Plains. She will try to use her connections amongst the religious community to find out if anyone has heard of the demon. (not sure what skill check to roll for that so I rolled a generic 20 and came up with an 11)

She looks at Xenia and asks, "So what is your new interest in starting trade routes? Are you looking to become a merchant princess?

The Sargrass Plains (DM SteveK)

Xenia gets help from a friend to teleport over to the magical Hook City and looks up an old acquaintance. Madame Weaver is very, very pleased to get news of her daughter, and soon insists Xenia stay for dinner and meet the whole clan. "And I insist on you calling me Mara." And whole clan it is! Mara's husband helps get ready as Tishe's three older sisters, thier husbands, and all thier children arrive over the next hour and fill the house/weavery/shop to bursting. Trestles are set in a stone paved inner courtyard and lights hung from trees and stakes, as the whole family celebrates with a friend of thier famous Tishe'. Xenia can immediately tell that Mara and her three older daughters are absolutely beautiful, but it is her father that Tishe' takes after.

The clan wholeheartedly agrees to pitch in with Xenia's scheme, and promise to have a waggonload of tapestries and other woven products (in the Rattledam Style) to arrive in Heranmar the week during the ship trials of Xenia's new boat.

Torgon waits for the use of his Question, pending the group going to the Sargrass Plains.

And once the group gathers together, Peerimus, Firn'gaer, Rash, Torgon, Durgan, Kazak, and Xenia prepare to Greater Teleport to the Sargrass Plains.

Though they have been there before, the first attempt at the magic transportation fails: the COC are still standing in Peerimus' Druid Grove!

He was the kinda guy you wannit sump'in done, you go to him and he'd get it fixed for you. Sometimes he'd charge folks in gold. A lotta times, he'd just charge in ... favors. You'd be surprised how much gold you can make by calling in a few of the right favors at just the right time."

"So, I guess you'd say that looking to trade the right stuff at the right time is in my blood. Well, not really blood, 'cause he wasn't really my ... " and here Xenia's dark face turns to a frown, " ... my Da by birth. That's a different story. But, yeah. I guess a Merchant Princess is what I'm looking to be. I even got me a three-cornered pirate sailing hat, just for the trip."

"Oh, Durgan, I'm thinking of racking the kegs of Mountainhome low to the deck in the hold. Less chance of them falling and busting open that way. And the weavings and stuff we'll build racks for up above, separated from the kegs below with oil cloth. I think that'll keep things pretty safe, don'cha think?"

Ask Bunwit about building wooden racks. The girl rogue adds the note to her mental list of things to do. Oddly, the thought draws Xenia back to the party, and the whole family of Weavers all around. All them kids. They woulda had beautiful kids. She and Wynn. The image brings a pang of bitter sweetness to her breast. Xenia gives an audible sigh, and then looks up, drawn from her reverie by the realization that they are still here in the grove.

"Didja do the spell? Why are we still here? You think maybe we have to 'port to the edge of the Downs and walk across like we did a'fore?"

Firn'gaer thinks about the ramifications of a demon with so many Chaos tattoos (Planes Knowledge DC18; Arcane Knowledge DC41, Nature Knowledge DC25)

Firn'gaer ponders what has happened (Arcane Knowledge DC42). "True, I suppose that a change in location of the Sawgrass would cause a failure with a teleport spell. But that being the case, I guess we need to teleport to a specific location that we scry on to get a lock on the Sawgrass. What about the drow village we found there?"

Firn'gaer will scry on any location suggested before trying to teleport again.

The Sargrass Plains, Take 2 (DM SteveK)
Friday October 1st, 2010 11:26:16 AM

The spells fail, and Firn'gaer's mind goes to deduce what the cause may be. Everyone else waits for the gnome to speak. In time, Firn'gaer comes to several possibilities.

- the foggy grayness effect on scrying can mean that the Marilith is protected by a Mages Private Sanctum spell. Even a Nondetection spell or being on another plane would create a different effect. The other possibility is that the Marilith is in a region or magical effect that actually has that foggy grayness, though it would be just as hard for the demon to see anything as it would be for the COC to see the Marilith.

- The group would disappear and reappear in the original location even with Greater Teleport if the areas they are familiar with on the Sargrass Plains no longer exist or has been so completely altered as to no longer be familiar. Oh, and Interplanar travel is not possible.

Firn'gaer Scrys on the Sargrass, specifically the drow-managed village of OddHolme that they had visited before... the home of the Bloodpack. The wizard brings out a highly polished mirror and, remembering that he needs to Scry a person not a place, focuses on the drow who spoke with them: Murdock and Vayine. He is able to see both drow as they are eating a meal in a well lighted porch of some building. They are obviously speaking with several other someones who are too far away to see. They are relaxed and seem to be in no danger. It will be easy to teleport to them.

Peermius will cast Endure Elements on any who need it, he can cast the spell 5 times after placing it upon himself and Yorrick. "Our appearance will likely cause our friends to immidiately become battle ready. Do not make any hostile actions, weapons stowed." is the druids last words of caution.

The Sargrass Plains, Take 2 (DM SteveK)
Monday October 4th, 2010 10:53:14 AM

Conducting a Greater Teleport with six Medium (Peerimus, Firn'gaer, Rash, Durgan, Kazak, Xenia) and 2 Large beings (Torgon, Yorrick) takes both Rash and Firn'gaer to cast simultaneously with the spot seen in the Scrying. Once more the magics flow, and the Children of Chaos disappear...

... and reappear in a medium-sized well lit room. The space, which had a table, some chairs, a couple of sideboards with food, and half a dozen people already become extremely crowded as the population more than doubles. Yorrick appears on top of one sideboard which promptly collapses, dishes of cooked grain and pulverized roots splattering the nearby wall, bear, and people. Firn'gaer and Rash appear on top of the table looking directly at the two drow: Vayine and Murdock.

To say the two drow are startled would be a bit of an understatement. Both fly to thier feet, the wizard Murdock raising his hands for a quick incantation, but bumps up against Torgon who is directly behind him and spoils the motion of hands. Vayine's quick mind sees there is no room even to unsheath his sword and his hand flashes toward his dagger and looks up to see a target of ... flowers?

"Murdock, it is not an attack", the now-smiling drow says to his dour companion, "I've never yet been knocked unconscious by a vase of flowers."

Then to the COC. "I recognize some of you. Why don't we go out and to a larger place to continue lunch? I don't think it will be all that comfortable in here?"

Firn'gaer
Monday October 4th, 2010 1:56:39 PM

Xenia picks herself up off the floor before dismissing the invisibility. "Er ... Hi." Xenia gives her signature handwave as she struggles to pull herself up and out from between Yorrick and Torgie Minotaur. "We tried 'porting to your grass dome," she says, continuing Firn'gaer's explanation. "But the magic wouldn't take us there."

"'Course, no guarantee ... " The rogue pulls her foot up and out, climbing up Yorrick's back. " ... guarantee that's gonna be the Sargrass out there. But ... " Xenia rolls over the giant bear's back and into a clear space by the door. " ... we had to try something."

Yorrick roars in surprise as his feet find an unsteady surface and wooden and other objects explode into fragments about him. Peerimus is quick with a steadying hand and ursine grunts of reassurance. The Druid makes more room by becoming a tiny bird and perching atop one of Torgons horns. "Yes outside would be far better a location I agree."

Once the group spills out Peerimus resumes his normal form and apologizes again. If the last few years have taught him anything its that a leader can't apologize enough. Peerimus will wait until the group is settled with hello's and such and that the brothers have had a chance to get a drink or two in them and then he gets to business.
"Our last struggle to put an end to the Migration was a success, but not without a few strays' Several demons and most importantly a Marlyth escaped through to the Sawgrass. We have been unsuccessful in magically locating them and so our only option was to come and see if luck would prevail."

Refugees (DM SteveK)
Tuesday October 5th, 2010 4:42:52 PM

The groups are quickly sorted out and, with a little effort, get out the door and into some space where everyone can breathe in at the same time without squishing anyone.

For those who have been to OddHolme and the Sargrass Plains, there are some things that are immediately noticable.

- The door opens out to a stone courtyard enclosed by walls but open to the air above. Despite seeing blue sky, there is no oppressive heat, just a balmy day!

- Looking over the wall, there are trees and rocky outcroppings! The trees are stunted and ill formed (an easy Knowledge check confirms they are olive and dwarf cedar trees), but they are clinging to the rocky soil that is all about the enclosed courtyard.

- One end of the courtyard has a small brook running through it. Running Water!!!

Murdock is still suspicious and keeps his thoughts and words to himself, but Vayine is able to supply any information. "Well, I'm glad you are here wherever 'here' is. You are the first friendly faces that we have seen since OddHolme was destroyed... Uh, maybe I better back up a little."

"Oddholme was growing and just starting to get some traders stopping by when we got the wrong sort of notice. Slavers started raiding the town and other settlements we knew about in the area while the Bloodpack was away. Trellus speculated that the slavers 'popped' in while the Great Migration was moving everything around, cause they were awful powerful and close. Well, when the Bloodpack returned, the Slavers attacked in force, and had treants and snaketaurs with them. And THEN a horde of demons started popping up and attacking both sides!"

Vayine shakes his head in wonder.

"And then it got really wierd. With all the demons about and the land warping all around, the avatar of the Sargrass appears with rivers of Woldsblood flowing around him! He directed us all to get to the Portal and everyone left alive ran like Rapke to get there! The Bloodpack held the demons and other attackers at bay while everyone got through and were supposed to have followed us, but after me and Murdock, the Portal collapsed and was gone. The last thing I saw was the Bloodpack turning to get ready to dive through the Portal with a wave of Woldsblood and a glowing Sargrass Avatar behind them."

"And so we are here. A rocky land with a few trees, game, and water. Some nearby caves are providing meat and fungi to eat and Murdock and a couple other clerics and wizards are crafting homes and other food. Looks like the people can finally get on thier feet and not be bothered by end-of-the-wold type of stuff."

Though with an avatar hanging out nearby, they shouldn't have done too poorly unless our marilith is much better than we think."

Torgon stops and looks carefully at the two drow, Never having seen one before, and knowing little more than their general reputation. "If they are good enough for the CoC, they have to be pretty good guys". he thinks to himself. "Greetings and well met. I am Torgon. Sorry about dropping in uninvited."

"And you're saying that the Blood Pack may be killed down for all you know. 'Zat right?" Xenia imagines having to go back to Momma Weaver and the family. What's she gonna say? At the very least she'll have to tell them just exactly what she heard here today. None of it - not even the littlest bit - is encouraging. Not in any way!

"We gotta find a way to get to them portals in your OddHolme. We gotta find out what happened to the Packies, and that's the best place to start. I mean, you said you saw the place destroyed, right? But you jumped through before you saw the end, right? What's the chance it's still there? That they made it through?"

Xenia throws up her skinny arms. Her dark shirtsleeve robe swirls out behind her as she paces back and forth. Suddenly she turns and reaches into her bag. "Fernie, could you scry on Tishe? I got me sump'in of hers. If you use it for, like, you know, a contact, could you scry her?" And the rogue pulls out a finely woven black body suit with blood red trimming. Peerimus falls silent and reflective at the news. The Blood pack was not a group of ametuers. They were battle hardened fighting force and worked well together from the stories he had heard. This was certainly not the Sagrass, at least not by what all knew it to be. The Migration may have effected such change in the land, but the druid doubhted it. Locating the Bloodpack and possibly initiating a rescue was fast becoming the druid's foremost thought. The demons could wait. Peerimus is nodding and speaking even as his mind continues to path out the myriad of possibilities, "Trishe, Trellus all of them, yes. Are any of thier possessions here by chance or could be craft a likeness of any of them to enhance an attempt?"

And what if they could not, what if this was a dead end. That path did not sit well and so Peerimus chose to put it aside. Scrying failure, leaves Rash with Discern location. The Bloodpack would not be protected from such a spell. Unless the Sagrass avatar intervened. If so than what. It would be up to Rash possibly Torgon thorugh Commune or other divinations.

Peerimus heard himself talking again, "How far have you ventured in this area.? What landmarkers are about?"

He would need to speak with Mother and possibly head skyward for a personal airial view of the laying land. "Tomorrow I can speak with Mother about the area about you and before that I will take a look myself."

"Finding the Bloodpack and what happened is our goal. I cannot leave thier fate up to an unknown happening. We put our resources to that end."

Barring further conversation, Peerimus assumes the form of a Greater air elemental and streaks skyward several thousand feet to see what he can see.

(OOC Don't remember if Rash met the Bloodpack. I don't think so)
Rash will look at the two drow and calmly say, "These younglings can be a bit flighty at times." She points at Peerimus's quickly rising form and smiles. "The powers have granted me a powerful spell called discern location which should tell me the location of at least one member of the Bloodpack. Since I haven't met them, I will need something that once belonged to one of them. Does anyone have anything that I can use a focus?"

She will take a good look around the area as well, wondering where they are. This doesn't feel like the Sargrass. I wonder where we are? With the scramble of the Southern Isle, we could be anywhere. At least we know we are on the same plane."

Discerning Locations (DM SteveK)
Wednesday October 6th, 2010 4:45:25 PM

ooc: All Heroes except Torgon have met Vayine, Murdock and have visited OddHolme just before they initiated the Great Migration with the Chaos Bell. (CoC Archives: CROSSOVER: 5 March 2009)
.....................

The Children of Chaos are able to have a noon meal among the refugees from OddHolme and continue to get all the information possible from the two drow.

Torgon thinks contact with the Bloodpack is a good idea, but is wondering about how deep in it they are with a Power in mortal form walking among the Sargrass. While a little suspicious of the two dark elves, the minotaur accepts them as the COC accepts them.

Vayine replies to Torgon's introductions. "No, you weren't with them when you came through OddHolme were you? I'm Vayine, ranger and one-time companion to the Bloodpack, then militia defense of OddHolme, and now the militia chief of NewHolme. This silent guy in robes and smelling of brimstone is Murdock, another sometime member of the Bloodpack and now our town judge." The drow looks around with a smile. "Despite being the only dark elves in town, we seem to pull a lot of weight."

Xenia, the half-drow girl fires off some rapid questions. "Definitely not the Sargrass", responds Vayine, "and we don't know where we are. Looks livable to us though. As for the Bloodpack, we don't know, but it is possible they are in another part of the lands. Not all the refugees arrived here for instance. It seems that the Portal transported people to many different places, but we have no means of verifying Murdock's theory. He's an Evoker, not a Diviner, you know."

Xenia is desperate to get to the Portals and find the Bloodpack, not necessarily in that order. She has an article of clothing that Tishe' of the Bloodpack made for the rogue. Perhaps that would be a good enough link for magic?

Durgan agrees that finding the Bloodpack should be the priority, and maybe a link to the demon?

Peerimus thinks hard, but at the top of the list is locating the Bloodpack and possibly initiating a rescue. The demons could wait. Scrying, he decides, and then Rash with her Discern Location.

Peerimus asks about scouting the local area and Vayine again is the spokesman. "I took off on a spiral route for about a week, checking out the lay of the land. It is broken and bare stone mostly, almost like new turned earth. There are some higher mountains in the distance, and a great number of caves large and small. We're exploring those with more care but haven't found anything terribly dangerous yet."

The druid transforms himself and catapults into the air to get an elementals-eye view of the area. It is very much as the drow ranger has said. It appears all sharp edged stone up-and-down, and far off (20 miles or more) is the peaks of a mountain range to the north. The mountains look familiar and it doesn't take the druid long to recognize the distinctive smiling saddle of the Grinning Pass.

Rash waits for Firn'gaer to see if he can't find the Bloodpack. She carefully considers who would be the best one to locate with her location spell. The last time the CoC met the Bloodpack, thier membership consisted of:
- Tishe' the Mystic
- Trellus the Cleric
- Gilan the Druid
- Grymash the half-orc cleric/barbarian
- Vayine the drow ranger (already found!)
- Flea the halfling rogue
- Yanosh the dwarf cleric
- Olaf the human rogue/cleric

Kazak asks about lifting and drifting. Murdock shrugs an irritated shoulder and responds. "Already told you, dwarf. We ran through the Portal and ended up here. No land movement at all."

Firn'gaer
Wednesday October 6th, 2010 5:54:02 PM

He thinks about what he hears. "I think the power of Chaos amplified the warping factor that the demons to hasten their effect. It is probably still the Sawgrass, but a very chaoticly and evil influenced."

Firn'gaer will attempt to find Tishe' using the piece of cloth. "I'm not sure if this will help, but let's give it a try. Perhaps try and find Trellus as well."

He will try Greater Scrying to find Tishe'.

Will save is DC24 plus any modifier for the piece of cloth.

Xenia (AC31, HP109/109)
Wednesday October 6th, 2010 8:55:55 PM

Xenia folds herself into a seated position on the ground next to Firn'gaer. Anxiously she watches as the little gnome Wizard Guy tries his Scrying Thing on the body suit that Tishe made.

"Hey," the girl rogue tosses a question in the direction of the Vayine Drow Guy, "weren't you a Packie too? Don'choo got one of them Heart Things what can feel each other? I met a Minotaur named Mac who was once a Packie. He told us 'bout 'em. He said he musta been too far away from the Sargrass, 'cause he couldn't feel the rest of his pack either."

"'Course, that was all the way back in Floating City. There was, like, the Platik Ocean 'tween us and them at that time. Wonder if we're that far away now? Kinda doubt it. But you never know with crazy magic stuff."

Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180
Thursday October 7th, 2010 9:31:58 AM

"Pleased to meet you Vayine." Torgon responds

Torgon listens attentively, attempting to take in and remember all the names of people and places being thrown around. He waits with interest as Firn'Gaer casts his spells, wondering if they will work. Should Firn'Gaer and Rash both be able to come up with anything further, it will likely be up to him and his deck draw to point them in the right direction.

Surprising Scrying (DM SteveK)
Thursday October 7th, 2010 11:46:30 AM

Vayine shakes his head at Xenia's question. "The Bloodpack made a pact with Gargul only recently. In exchange for the life of Gilan, the Gray Lord severed the connection of the Dragon Tears. None who still have the ruby gems upon thier chest can feel any of the others."

Firn'gaer wonders if the body suit would be more attuned to Xenia or Tishe', but he's willing to give it a try. Greater Scrying spell at hand, Firn'gaer doesn't need a foci, and before the group the very air wavers and forms an image...

Trees and bushes and vines, as if in a forest surround Tishe' Weaver as she follows an elf who appears to be following a trail. About Tishe', Firn'gaer and the others can see a group of competent looking adventurers, but the only one that is familiar is the scarred dwarf, Yanosh. Those who have visited the Continent of Yrth Highlight to display spoiler: {Can see that the woods are the Culverwood}.

But then the vision in the air blurs and turns crimson. Waves of what looks like blood crash against unseen rocks in a maelstrom of whipping power. In the center of the vision stands a androdynous pale human without nose or mouth or hair, its eyes glowing like two young suns. Stop looking for Tishe', she's mine. The voice is like a hot wind rustling through tall grasses. Too whiny, the being says as if to itself, I'm going to try that again. Ahem... Children of the Crones, do not seek my handmaiden. Know she is safe and well kept by new companions, and is performing my tasks upon a new land far from my Plains. Do not seek my Bloodpack, for I have dispersed those heroes for thier safety and well being. As they are no longer the Bloodpack, enemies can no longer find them for mischief.

There is another pause where the being again talks to itself, yet clearly heard by all. Nah, that was too stuffy. But let's see what they say first.

Rash  d20+10=29 ;
Thursday October 7th, 2010 12:58:30 PM

Rash pauses as she hears this new powerful voice. She studies all of the Powers and this feels like one. She thinks of any clues to figure out which one (religion check 29)

She will step forward and speak, "I am not sure how to address you, so please don't take offense. I mean no disrespect." Rash wonders if she is talking to the Sargrass plains itself? "We have come to this place looking to track down some demons who were recently unleashed on the Wold during our last adventure to end the Great Migration. When we arrived here, we heard that our friends in the Bloodpack were in a huge battle and possilbly lost and in need of rescue. When we scryed them, we see many new members surrounding Tishe. Is she no longer a member of the Bloodpack? Has the Bloodpack dissolved as an adventuring group? We count them as friends and worry for them. Do they need our aid?

When we tried to scy the demons, all of our magics failed. Can you tell us if the turmoil from the Great Migration has scrambled things around so much that we can't scry. I was happy to see Tishe at least if only for a moment. We will gladly leave her to your service if she is happy in it.

Xenia (AC31, HP109/109)
Thursday October 7th, 2010 3:36:44 PM

"Hey! I know that place." The girl rogue stands and stabs a finger at the view in the scrying. "We passed near there after visiting Cinnamon Valley. That's the Culverwood. That's all the way north up where I'm from."

Then the Woldsblood Guy steps out, and Momma Rash has the same idea that flashes through Xenia's mind. "I'm glad your taking care of Tishe and the other Packies," she says. "Thank you. I mean, really thank you. I only met Tishe for once or twice, but she was nice to me at a time ... She was nice to me."

"I think you gotta 'member, though, you may think of them as yours, but really they're their on people. They got family and other folks what loves them."

"I'll tell the Weavers that Tishe is alright. But I gotta tell 'em where she is too. If you don't like that, I think we're gonna have a problem here."

Peerimus AC 25 HP 146/146 and Yorrick AC 41 HP 160/160
Thursday October 7th, 2010 9:43:48 PM

Peerimus returns shortly and identifies the Grinning Pass to the north about 20 miles. "Beyond that is the gateway Downs and friendly lands if you are so inclined Vaiyne. The rest of what I saw is as you described, broken and fairly barren land. I will speak with Mother shrtly and will be able to provide you a further accounting of the land and the creatures that dwell here."

Peerimus, too, answers the Power emanating from the scry. Our friends and heroes of the land are safe then, our thanks." Peerimus has nothing to add about the demons and simply waits on that. Perhaps the being will continue, perhaps not, but at least the members of the Bloodpack are safe. The druid breathes a sigh of tension released.

He waits on not only the Power, but also Vaiyne. The land the ranger and his people are in is well enough, but quite small in scope and he hopes the drow sees that the Children of Chaos could bring them to much greener pastures. Though some strive for the adventure of surviving and thriving in such places, so he will not push any agenda. They know friends are near and so that is well enough for the druid.

Peerimus will cast Commune with Nature casting out 22 miles in all directions on the general animal population, presence of woodland creatures and the presence of any powerful unnatural creatures

Torgon AC: 32 HP : 180
Friday October 8th, 2010 8:28:54 AM

Torgon watches the sight, and listens to the figure. Knowing little of the bloodpack, he feels no emotion either way towards what they have been told, except for the fact that they are likely at another dead end.

Seems the powers wish this demon to run around the Wold for awhile, or to let someone else handle it. Perhaps it is a sign that this fight is not for us. Torgon thinks to himself.

He waits to see if anything more useful is forthcoming from the figure in the scry.
