DM Cayzle - Runs and misses Monday October 25th, 2010 6:42:07 AM
Galin shoots at the lizardman, but does not hit.
Alexi and Zeph pause to fight the lizardman, but they too miss.
The lizard shouts, "Go away! Go away!" He backs off 30 feet, still using total defense, at AC25. He is moving now at right angles to the path toward the aircraft, so that pursuing him will not help you get there at all.
Meanwhile, Jet, Keela, Charek, and Garret keep moving at top speed toward the downed flier, with Garret in the lead.
Galin HP 58/58 AC 17 d20+11=16 ; Monday October 25th, 2010 9:38:43 AM
Galin will reload and fire again same target " hit ac 16 (well I guess that bows are not my thing)
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Monday October 25th, 2010 1:20:51 PM
Garret continues running, hoping that he will see a clearing with the craft and the flier before he sees the hounds. He is imagining the flying craft hovering above the ground and is mentally preparing to attempt to leap into the craft.
Zeph AC26 HP 42/42 (shield) d20+10=28 ; d20+13=14 ; 2d4+4=10 ; Monday October 25th, 2010 4:40:55 PM
Zeph continues to chase the fleeing lizard and hits AC 28 this time for 10 damage!
he 14 was an attempted bluff to feint, but it was a nat 1! Oh noooooo
Keela Monday October 25th, 2010 9:07:10 PM
Keela continues clinging to Daisy, and tries to focus on what lies ahead of her. The landscape ahead of her dips and sways alarmingly with the movement of the horse, and everything looks blurry.
DM Cayzle - The Chase Continues Tuesday October 26th, 2010 7:53:50 AM
Jet, Keela, Garret, Alexi, and Charek, with Garret in the lead, race through the grass toward the downed aircraft. They will get within line-of-sight of it next round [OOC: Yes, a map will come tomorrow, says your kindly DM.]
Galin, on horseback with Jet, takes a parting shot at the lizard but misses.
Zeph turns from the race in order to take on the lizard. He hits for 10 hp damage!
The lizard in turn uses the withdraw action to move 60 feet away, now angling back the way he and you came.

Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 34/53) d20+6=10 ; Tuesday October 26th, 2010 11:04:43 AM
ooc: I made a mistake. I can not use Combat Casting with a Concentration check in this situation, so I must roll for the cure spell he cast while mounted.
10 makes it.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Tuesday October 26th, 2010 11:30:57 AM
Garret continues his run, listening to the sound of the horses pounding along the ground. He glances left and right, watching for an ambush, but hoping that he will get to the craft before it can escape.
Keela Tuesday October 26th, 2010 12:05:36 PM
Keela spares a thought for the fleeing lizardman. Probably not a good idea to let him get away.
But it can't be helped. Capturing the flying machine is more important. Even if we can't use it, she thinks, we can deprive them of it. And that's something.
She clings to Daisy as they approach ever closer to the flying machine.
Alexi (AC: 22/11, HP:42(4)/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:36/37) d20+14=31 ; d20+13=23 ; Tuesday October 26th, 2010 6:03:40 PM
OOC: i didn't mention it but Alexi was supposed to stop with Zeph and keep attacking the stopped lizard. however, that's no problem, he'll turn around and head back.
IC: Alexi had thought that he would hurt the lizard considerably and Zeph and Garret would finish him off. but he missed and a quick glance reveals that Zeph is left alone with the lizard. Knowing how tough they can be, he turns Lobo around and heads back to attack.
OOC: lets see, Alexi moves 115' towards the craft, lizard moves 60' towards the craft, that means lizard is 55' away from Alexi. A Charge is 70' (double move) so that should work.
IC: Giving the word to Lobo, he lowers his lance and Charges again. DC25,
Alexi ends up 5' past the lizardman, that is, adjacent but between Zeph and lizardman. Lance has 10' reach.
Charek AC 25; HP 47/47 Tuesday October 26th, 2010 8:29:36 PM
Charek readies himself for what might be about to come as they approach the flier's position, readying himself for a leaping attack from horseback if need be.

DM Cayzle - Targets in sight, and out of sight Wednesday October 27th, 2010 6:50:35 PM
Garret running at 40 (160 per round for four rounds) has traveled 640 ft.
Keela, on Daisy as a light load, running at 50 (200 per round for three rounds) has traveled 600 ft.
Jet and Galin, on Vaya as a medium load, running at 40 (160 per round for three rounds) have traveled 480 ft.
Charek, I'm assuming you are riding a light Ahote warhorse. You weigh 175 lbs. Your gear weighs 88 lbs. That's 263 lbs of load, that is, a medium load, running at 40 (160 per round for three rounds) have traveled 480 ft.
Zeph and Alexi, engaging the lizard, have traveled 240 ft from the site of the meadow and battle.
The aircraft has semi-crash landed about 150 feet in front of Garret, in tall grasses. The pilot has been thrown out of the craft, it seems, from what he sees. Keela can see it too, about 200 feet from her. Keela and Garret can reach it with a round more of running.
Garret and Keela,, if you can make a Spot check vs DC15, Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You see some number of medium lizards -- thruls -- about 150 feet beyond the downed aircraft. You do not know if they see you.}
Jet, Charek, and Galin cannot see the downed craft, though they see Keela ahead. They also cannot see Alexi or Zeph, or the fleeing lizard -- so Galin can shoot no longer at it from the back of the galloping horse.
Alexi and Zeph, the lizard is sorely wounded. Zeph has hit it for 20 hp damage. Alexi has just ridden up. The lizard falls prone and shouts, "MERCY! Please! Don't be sorry! Just not kill me!"
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] d20+5=9 ; Wednesday October 27th, 2010 7:35:07 PM
Garret, upon spotting the craft and the pilot, continues his run towards the pilot, intending to grab the pilot if he is still alive.
OOC: Spot: 9. Does anyone else think it's funny that the little halfling is outrunning all the mounted folks? :)
Charek AC 25; HP 47/47 Wednesday October 27th, 2010 7:36:24 PM
Charek guides his horse off to a 45 degree angle to the right of the others by about 45 feet.
Alexi (AC: 22/11, HP:42(4)/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:36/37) Wednesday October 27th, 2010 10:00:42 PM
Alexi, in Lizard form, keeps his lance leveled at the lizardman's chest.
"Ah, you wissssh to ssssurrender, eh? ze weakling! My clan vould never ssssurrender ssssso eassssy. Your clan be invaderssss here. Why you not go avay?"
Keela d20+2=17 ; Thursday October 28th, 2010 12:59:49 AM
Puffing with the exertion of her ride, Keela manages to gasp out, "Garret, watch out! There's more of them!" [spot 17]
She continues moving toward the downed air ship.
Zeph AC26 HP 42/42 (shield) d20+13=17 ; Thursday October 28th, 2010 2:24:02 AM
Zeph groans and thinks to himself, We are too messy! It's way easier to just kill all lizards when they are defending themselves so we don't have to do things like this.
Seeing Alexi question the lizard gives Zeph an idea, "Tell us a way to get into the city and we wont kill you" Bluff 17
Galin HP 58/58 AC 17 Thursday October 28th, 2010 9:03:28 AM
Galin will continue the trip with Jet

Alexi (AC: 22/11, HP:42(4)/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:36/37) Thursday October 28th, 2010 10:56:26 PM
Don't worry. no one's bleeding to death yet. :)
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Thursday October 28th, 2010 10:57:36 PM
RL intrudes sometimes, darn it! :)
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 34/53) Friday October 29th, 2010 4:34:39 AM
Jet is in a limbo, between, trying to rally the group as a team, like a good cleric should with those he has a spiritual bond with, or allowing chaos to again dictate the success of a group that is split up and having different agendas.
He chooses and resides himself to the fact, that the best chance his flock has of living, if not with success, will be due to unpredictability.
Once again as he told Alexi, they have always been successful, even when a plan didn't work.
But...
Where are the hounds that were baying before?
DM Cayzle - At the Landing Site Friday October 29th, 2010 7:32:40 AM
Keela and Garret continue running. They get to the aircraft first. Garret sees that the pilot is slumped over, unconscious.
Jet and Galin also move forward, not reaching the downed aircraft yet. Charek angles off, at the cost of some time, but likely it is wise not to keep the group all bunched up.
Meanwhile, Alexi and Zeph make demands. The cowering lizard shouts, "All you need is a Skyfarer Pass! The pilot has one!"
And even more meanwhile, a group of lizards beyond the aircraft break out of the grasses. They take a double move this round, There are six of them, with three medium sized four-legged baying reptiles pulling them on leashes.
And a Map! (coming in a couple minutes.)
DM Cayzle - At the Landing Site Friday October 29th, 2010 9:14:13 AM
Gosh darn it! Had to install Office on my laptop. That took my morning. I brought the laptop to work, so I'll make the map at lunchtime. Sorry. Wait for it or post without ... I'll be lenient in interpretations.
Zeph and Alexi, you don't get a map anyway.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:33/33] Friday October 29th, 2010 11:20:33 AM
Garret runs up to the pilot. Seeing he is not conscious, Garret will grab him and yell at the other approaching lizards, "Back! Stay back, or I'll kill him!"
He spins around a little, acting as if surrounded as other "lizards" approach from the rear.
OOC: Just about everyone else is still in lizard disguise, right? :)
DM Cayzle - Extra Friday October 29th, 2010 11:47:56 AM Just about everyone else is still in lizard disguise, right?
I'm assuming yes except for Garret (you were in slave disguise) and Galin (never donned a headband, I think).
If you want to change that, NOW's the time! :-)
Zeph AC26 HP 42/42 (shield) d20+12=29 2d4(4+4)+4=12 d6=1 d6=5 d6=6 Friday October 29th, 2010 12:11:32 PM
Zeph says "Thank you" and quickly stabs the prone lizard with a short sword, killing it.
Then Zeph hops on the horse, disguised as a Lizard, and rides to the downed aircraft.
Cayzle Comments: LOL! You still have to roll a to hit (At +4 since it is prone) and damage! It is not helpless!
Spiked chian: Hit AC 29 for 12 damage and 12 sneak attack... does being prone take away Dex bonus?
So. should we swap our characters over to pathfinder versions?
Keela d20+14=29 ; Friday October 29th, 2010 12:31:00 PM

Jet is torn between healing himself some more or saving the remaining spells for the obvious combat to come. He continues on toward the craft, in the hopes the others will fall back if they need to to him if they need to. He remains as alert as possible while galloping.

Zeph's pathfinder sheet. Check it over for me and yell if I made any mistakes? I know it's level 7, but I can convert it down a level easily. Only 480 away from lvl 7 and the last time we got exp was when we returned the Ahote bodies and have had 2 fights since then. But I can wait till after this next encounter, either way.
DM Cayzle - Extra Monday November 1st, 2010 6:42:59 AM
Note that we'll be converting to PF either when everyone has finished updating or on Jan 1 or when Troy gives us the go ahead, whichever comes first. As we are still updating the Woldipedia and there's a battle to run and this is a real life deadline week for me, getting to PC sheets may not be my number one priority foir this week, sorry.

OOC guys I am not in the least familiar with the conversion process to pathfinder never looked at it, seen it, nor do I have a copy of the rules to work with.

Fear not! There is no rush. We have two months.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 34/53) Monday November 1st, 2010 10:33:48 AM
ooc: Do the players need to make another post before your DM post? I am confused with the map, I assume, that was an end of move map, correct?
[OOC: To make things more clear ... In the first round of combat, Keela, Garret, Jet, Charek, and Galin all took run actions (or their horses did). The map sent Friday shows positions at the end of that first round. Also in that round, Alexi and Zeph intimidated the cowering lizardman into revealing that a special pass is needed to enter the City. Here follow the results for the second round of battle ...]
Garret, still in the guise of an escaped prisoner, runs up to the downed pilot. He shouts a threat, and looks around, trying to pull off the clever bluff, it would seem, that he is an escaped slave, and that his friends following him are in fact chasing him.
Keela, however, makes this attempt pretty much moot by riding forward and casting a color spray! There are six thruls and three lizard-hounds, but the cone is only 15 feet wide, and with careful angling Keela can catch lizards 1, 2, and 3, as well as hounds 1 and 2. The DC for the spell is 14.
Lizard Saves: Lizards 1 and 2 fail, and are blinded and stunned for two rounds, then stunned for another round after that. Lizard 3 makes his save, and is unaffected. Hound Saves: Hound 1 saves, and is unaffected. Hound 2 fails, and is stunned for one round.
By this, Keela deduces that the thruls have 3 or 4 hit dice, and the hounds have 5+ hit dice.
I'm e-mailing a map of what the battle field looks like as Keela casts. [OOC: In the first map, sent Fri, I forgot Keela was mounted. I've fixed that.]
Jet and Galin take a double move, ending up right next to Keela, 10 feet from the enemy. Jet, you cannot quite reach the enemy for an attack, but you still have an action, for example, if you want to cast a spell or dismount or whatever.
Galin, you said you are waiting. For what? Do you want to dismount? What square do you want to end up in. Are you drawing a melee weapon?
Charek continues to move forward and to the right. [OOC: Not sure what you're trying to accomplish, Kent. I placed you fairly arbitrarily on the map. Feel free to adjust your position and act as desired. Mounted, your horse has moved, but you still have an action, like Jet.]
=====
Zeph attacks the cowering lizard -- who has just revealed important info and begged for mercy after trying to flee -- killing him.
The kindly DM still needs a post and action from Alexi.
=====
The Enemy
Thruls 1 and 2, holding the leashed Hound 1, are stunned, and do not release the hound.
Hound 1 is not stunned, but has not been released either. It strains at its leash, wanting to attack, but it cannot.
Thrul 3 tries to get Hound 2 to attack, goading it on. However, it is stunned, and does not move.
Thrul 4 takes a five-foot step back and fires twice at Jet, using his rapid reload feat. He hits AC 9 and AC22. The second attack hits for 6 hp damage to Jet.
Thrul 5 commands the hound to attack. It surges forward, snapping at Jet, biting AC29 for 14 damage.
Thrul 6 steps back and shoots twice at Jet. [OOC: Sorry you're a target, Jet, but I've been rolling, and no one wants to shoot at Galin.] Those attacks hit AC 12 and 28 -- the latter a critical that does not confirm. More damage to poor Jet: 2 more. That's 22 to Jet this round.
=====
I need actions/clarifications from Jet, Galin, Alexi, and maybe Charek. Those actions could radically affect the enemy's actions this round, but if so, I'll go back and change things.
Maps coming in e-mail.

Zeph spurs the light horse to run with all Speed to the Downed Flying Craft.
Galin - type Pathfinder SRD into google. Or go to the Woldopedia to see links to the classes. Don't worry, Pathfinder is so similar to 3.5 you wont notice much difference. Want me to make you a character sheet and post it here for you to use?

Jet needs to keep his head now more then ever. Two fighters and a monk in the group and once again, here I am in the front lines getting my butt kicked with a wizard and this slave. If I live through this I swear to all the gods something is going to change with this group or I am walking Vaya out the same way I came in, to the cradle with all the dangers, at least I know I can depend on myself to have some battle sense.
Normally, jet would jump down and start wading through these guys until his eyes closed forever, but he has other things depending on him right now, like seeing Keela and this new halfling to some form of safety if necessary.
Jet does a ride by and hurls a Tanglefoot bag at the canine #3 before riding Vaya back to and behind the flying aircraft for cover on their turn.
AC to hit the square hound #3 is in AC 5 hit with 12 Listen: 17 Spot: 10
DM Cayzle - Comments Before Round 3 - Orders needed from four PCs. d20+7=19 Tuesday November 2nd, 2010 7:46:49 AM
Jet, are you saying that your Round Two action is to draw and throw the tanglefoot bag? That's fine. You hit Touch AC12, and the hound is Touch AC11, so you hit! The hound's Reflex save to be stuck to the ground: a 19! It is not stuck! Therefore, it still advances and bites at you. It takes a -2 on attacks, so instead of hitting AC29 in its attack on you, it hits AC27, still a hit for 14 hp damage. Thus, for the bottom of Round Two you are attacked, per the previous DM post, so please update your hit points, and you are in melee with the hound. Now you and your mount are taking Withdraws for your Round Three actions to get out of the battle? You did not use the word "Withdraw," but if you do not, you provoke an AoO from the hound as you move out of its threatened square. If you do take the Withdraws, that's it for you for Round 3. If you are not Withdrawing, then you provoke an AoO and you still have action(s) to take while your mount moves.
Alexi, I'm assuming full run actions for you on horseback for Rounds 2 and 3. That will put you around L-M-22-23 on the map at the start of Round 4 (Don't post a Round 4 action yet!). Did you want to take any actions while your horse is galloping? Missile fire is at -8.
Charek, you are 50 feet from Thrul 1 and Hound 1. You can totally charge either, no problem. But I still need an attack roll and possibly damage for the charge attack for Round 3. Note that Thrul 1 is blinded and stunned, but the hound is not. Also a destination in map coordinates for where you want to end up.
Galin, I need a Round Two action as you approach the battle on Jet's mount -- no melee attacks. I also need a Round Three action as well. And map coordinates, please.
Zeph, you are one round behind Alexi and totally caught up. Keela, you are totally caught up. Garret, you are totally caught up. Your kindly DM hereby awards each of you three one (1) temporary hit point that will last until used or this battle is over.

OOC: Heh, didn't know he was that low, Jet. I'm just being sure. ;) And dang it, I can't find my excellent Pathfinder book after the move. It's nice to use the book, but I guess I'll have to use the on-line sources.

Alexi (AC: 22/11, HP:42(4)/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:36/37) Tuesday November 2nd, 2010 8:13:20 PM
DM: Alexi is holding shield in one hand and lance in other, don't think missile weapon feasible at this time. :)
Alexi will keep bouncing right along, looking for a good target and directing Lobo to where he can be in postition to Charge at end of Round 3. That would most likely be in the C column of 22-23. Thanks.

OOC: Charek a horse Charge is like any other Charge, although you need to make a Ride check to Guide with Knees if you want to use a shield with your other hand. The Charge gives you a +2 to Hit, but you suffer a -2 to AC.
If you want your Horse to Attack also, he has to be a trained warhorse and the Charge must only use 1 Move action for the horse, and you need to make a Ride check DC10. The horse then attacks at his attack level.
If the horse is NOT trained for battle, you have to succeed on a Control Mount in Battle DC20 Ride check to fight while mounted.
Er... look up Ride on pg 80 PHB.
just thought I'd try to help you here, as fighting while mounted turns out to be more complicated than it would seem.
Don't know how it is with the new system. haven't had time to look it up. so if it is different, my appologies. :}

Zeph charges his light warhorse and jumps off, landing somewhere between Keela and the Lizard dogs. Hopefully close to Charek too. Jump = 20 in 3.5 and Acrobatics 25 in pathfinder.
Zeph will cast Shocking grasp for his standard action if jumping off a horse was a move action.
His spiked chain (or elven curveblade) in right hand and his left all lightning-ey, he stands there, ready to tango.
"The horses exist for movement. Not worth risking their health in combat like this. Fight on the ground with me!"
He sees the dog, "Really? I had a puppy when I was younger." he says, rather upset he has to do this.
Galin: your pathfinder sheet is coming up buddy! Gimme a day or so. I'd reccomend taking next level in Rogue or something for some skills to diversify ect. But staying Fighter with high Dex and Mithril Breastplate will make you an AC monster because in Pathfinder fighters increase the max Dex bonus. =)
I'd be a ranger and he's my buddy. Good survival skills. He's a botanist. He loves tasting and smelling and inspecting shrubbery of all kinds.

First round of combat: Keela, Garret, Jet, Charek, and Galin all took run actions (or their horses did). Also in that round, Alexi and Zeph intimidated the cowering lizardman into revealing that a special pass is needed to enter the City.
Second round: Garret bluffs. Keela sprays. Charek swings wide. Jet and Galin approach at a gallop; Jet throws a tanglefoot bag and Galin dismounts. Zeph kills a thrul and Alexi rides off.
Third round: Garret garrotes. Keela rays. Charek charges. Jet withdraws. Galin attacks. Alexi arrives on the map. Zeph rides off.
Here are the third round results in detail.
Heroes
Garret kills the pilot.
Keela hits Thrul 5 with a scorching ray for 20, then backs off.
Charek charges Thrul 1 and inflicts 13 damage.
Jet withdraws.
Alexi arrives on the map.
Zeph is in transit and will arrive on the map next round after another round of movement.
Galin moves closer to Charek and hits Hound 1 for 5.
Enemies
Hounds 1, 2, and 3 attack Galin. They bite ACs 19, 19, and 9, inflicting 13 plus 18 damage -- 31 total to Galin.
Thruls 1 and 2 are still stunned and blind.
Thruls 3 and 4 shoot at Charek, firing twice each: None get close to Charek's AC25.
Thruls 5 and 6 shoot at Garret, firing twice each: one hits, but the monk's deflect arrows ability saves him.

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:34/33] d20+10=22 ; d4=4 ; Wednesday November 3rd, 2010 6:16:07 PM
Garret drops the pilot and stands up. When one bolt strikes the side of the craft, Garret looks to the source, in time to see the other crossbow bolt flying through the air towards his head. In the blink of an eye, Garret swings his arm up and slaps the bolt to the ground.
As Jet passes in front of Garret, Garret moves to the left, watching the lizards with the ranged weapons carefully. He gestures with one hand at them while yelling at them, taunting them, "Oh, you think you can hit me? Come on!"
At the same time, in his other hand, he twirls a sling and lets a stone fly towards the leftmost creature.
OOC: Moving left and towards the lizards as much as possible with a single move action, then taking a shot at #6 with the sling, hoping to keep them occupied, at least for the moment.
Sling attack: 22. Damage: 4.

OOC: Oooook. Let's see if this works. not have had good rolls to hit yet. so here goes.
Guide w/ knees DC5 Ride d20+14= 22 good
Alexi Charges Thrul 5. Lobo moving his entire 70' should put him at E6-7;F6-7, leaving 5' distance to Thrul 5 and 6, and the lance's reach being 10', Alexi should hit Thrul 5, if he rolls good enough.
Galin inflicts 20 points of damage on Lizard Hound 1. It looks wounded, sure, but not in any serious trouble.
Keela dismounts and splashes Thrul 5 with acid. He, on the other hand, looks pretty bad off.
Jet heals himself and spurs his mount forward.
Charek leaps off his mount (five foot step) and attacks Thrul 1, who is still stunned, for 14, exactly enough to bring him to zero hit points. That makes him disabled, not dying, but Charek feels confident enough to turn for his second attack and connect with the already injured Hound 1 for 26 more damage. With the 25 it has already taken, the Hound falls, dying and nearly dead.
Alexi charges. He has a choice of two targets -- Thrul 6, who is uninjured, and Thrul 5, who is nearly dead and who will take more acid damage next round. At which one does he level his spear? If he hits 5, it will die, but much of his damage will be wasted. If he hits 6, then 5 gets another round of attacks. He hits one of them for 20 damage.
Zeph spends the round at a full gallop, finally ending up on the map.
The Enemies
Tangled Hound 3 attacks Galin, hitting AC28 for 15 damage. Hound 2 also attacks Galin, following its instinct to bring down its prey. It hits 13, a miss.
Thrul 1 and 2 are stunned as their sight returns. They take no actions.
Thrul 3, 4, and 6 shift slightly back and all focus their fire on Alexi. Their six bolts hit ACs 15, 9, 21, 24, and 17. Thus, two hit for 7+4=11 damage.
Thrul 5, if it is not dead, also shoots at Alexi, hitting AC26 and 15, one hit for 4 more.

Jet watches as the "slave" rips into the hounds or at the very least, pokes into the hounds and is satisfied, Galin has some revenge to take from these lizards and has the training to do it.
Looking around at the scene, oh how he misses Bantom. The equines courage was unmatchable and his power sorely missed. When he gets the time, he must teach Vaya how to fight next and regrets not teaching her before now when their was plenty of time, but regrets are for the foolish, especially right now.
The fighter cleric of all the gods can't help but let his instincts take over and although he is not the proclaimed leader, he gives out commands as if he were.
"We need one of them alive! Let none escape! Alexi cover the far left! Garret, get your butt up here and flank these hounds with our new friend and Charek! Keela, can you make us all faster? Zeph, follow me to flank their rear!"
With that, Jet holds his position until Keela casts whatever spell she chooses, then moves Vaya around behind the battle to about -2 -3/DE, casting another spell on the way, Magic Weapon.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/no dex, HP: 20/53) Thursday November 4th, 2010 12:04:17 PM
ooc: That puts Vaya at around 100' of move. If Keela casts Haste, Jet would like to change Vayas course to end at 0-1/DE, avoiding AoO from 3 and 4 and Jet can then jump off his horse as a move action and get one attack in if possible. on #4.
Thank you.

Garret will continue his advance and continue towards the lizards. As he hears Jet bellow and circle around behind the creatures. He watches and smells one of the lizards burning with acid. Seeing that lizard has little time to live, he focuses his efforts on the lizard to the side. As he runs up, he jumps and kicks towards the lizard's midsection, but his aim is off and his foot bounces harmlessly off. Garret lands on his feet and takes up a defensive stance.

From Last Round, Sorry: Garret moves to 12E and fires at Thrul 6, inflicting 4 hp damage. And Alexi lanced Thrul 6. And to answer Jet's question, yes, there is one thrul unaccounted for from the prior fight. You have not seen him. Hiding in the grasses somewhere? Running home? Unknown. Oh, and D = Daisy and CM = Charek's Mount and ZM = Zeph's Mount.
The Heroes
Galin stabs at Hound 2, inflicting 7.
Jet waits for Keela's spell, cures Galin, and maneuvers (quite a bit, with that haste on your mount), shouting.
Keela's acid continues to eat away at Thrul 5. He takes 3 more and is barely standing. The mage casts Haste on Jet, Jet's mount, Alexi, Alexi's mount, Charek, and Galin.
Charek lays into Hound 2, hitting twice for 19 hp total.
Garret advances on thrul 6, attacks, but misses.
Alexi finishes off thrul 6.
Zeph dashes forward and makes a leaping dismount, alas, too late for the Haste.
Enemies
Thrul 1 uses a withdraw to try to escape.
Thrul 2 takes a step back and shoots at Alexi. One bolt hits for 3 damage.
Thrul 3 and four take a step out of Zeph's reach and shoot at Jet, who just came up behind them. They hit once for 5 damage.
Thrul 5, sensing his coming doom, drops his crossbow, draws a sword, steps forward 5 feet, and attacks Alexi. He hits AC20, exactly what he needs since Alexi is charging, IIRC. That's 5 more damage to Alexi.
That's 10 damage total to Alexi. I think that drops him?

From last round: Alexi, your numbers look good. Sorry, I got confused, I guess.
Heroes
Galin and Charek team up on Hound 2. They hit the lizard hound hard for 12+7+6 = 25 hp damage. Added to the 19 it has already taken, that's 44 damage. It is just barely still standing.
Garret advances, hits Thrul 4 for 4, but it resists his stun (saved, sorry).
Keela hits Thrul 5 and downs it.
Alexi charges Thrul 4 but misses.
Jet advances on the fleeing Thrul 1 and downs it with one blow. [OOC: You can only take a standard attack, not a full attack, after moving on a mount. Exception: missile fire.]
Zeph waits, hoping Jet will move to the far side of Thrul 3, allowing for a sneak attack on that Thrul. Alas, Jet instead moves to ride down Thrul 1. His kindly and generous DM, however, liberally interprets Zeph's desires, and allows him to take a five foot step and sneak attack Thrul 2, using Charek's Ahote-trained light warhorse as his flanker. The full attack on Thrul 2 allows him to hit for 7+11 = 18 damage on that target.
Enemies
Hounds 2 and 3 attack Galin -- both miss! [Darn dice roller!]
Thruls 2, 3, and 4 all take a five foot step back and shoot at Alexi. Thrul 4 still provokes an AoO from Alexi's long lance in so doing, so take your AoO, Alexi! However, since Thrul 4 is barely scratched, your AoO won't prevent his shots.
Six bolts at Alexi: Each thrul hits once, inflicting 7+8+5 20 hp total to the mounted lancer.
ENEMY STATUS
Thrul 1 -39 hp dead Thrul 2 -18 hp Thrul 3 - unwounded Thrul 4 -4 Thrul 5 -30 hp = (dying, nearly dead) Thrul 6 -40+ = very dead Lizard Hound 1 -52 (dying, nearly dead) Lizard Hound 2 -44 (very wounded) Lizard Hound 3 - tangled, moving at half speed, penalties.
Alexi takes 20 pts. bringing him to -5(4 of which are non-lethal). Alexi has Die-Hard feat, so he is automatically stable. He chooses to act as Disabled and urges Lobo to move away a fair distance.
IC: Three bolts pierce Alexi's armor and Alexi drops his lance in pain. Momentarily things go black as he deals with the pain and loss of breath, but his tough training from the Mailed Fist prevents him from loosing his grip in the saddle. As things clear up, he spots Garrett in front and Zeph to the side. Wheeling Lobo around, he directs Lobo to H15-16; I15-16. (Alexi gets a Move or a Standard action, I think this would be a Move action so that's all he can do this round).
PS. No Ride check is necessary since he dropped his lance and uses his hand to guide.

Garret watches the lizards focus on Alexi in frustration and then watches him back away, hopefully out of range. Then Garret moves quickly, trying to take advantage of the battle scene. He moves up around behind one of the lizards and carefully aims a punch at the lizard's mid-section, but the lizard moves at the last moment and Garret strikes nothing but air.
OOC: Move around to G3 or so, trying to set up a flank with Zeph without setting up an AAO. One more try at stunning fist: 16 Dang it!

When Alexi goes limp on his horse with arrows sticking out of him, Zeph gets pretty mad. Zeph takes a 5-foot hop to H-6, threatening lizard 2,3, and 4.

OOC: Regarding uncalled for spot and listen checks. Well, were I an evil DM who likes to sneak enemies up to ambush you, you might be glad you rolled them. If I were a kindly DM who likes to see players thinking ahead, you might find yourself rewarded some time for your cleverness. But in fact, they are not necessary at the moment.
Heroes
Alexi manages to stay in his saddle, thanks to his diehard feat, but things are looking dicey for the hero as he guides his mount out of the fray.
Galin downs the untangled hound and hits the tangled one for 7 hp damage.
Charek joins him, hitting that same hound twice for 16 more.
Garret maneuvers behind Thruls 4 and 3, attacks, but misses.
Zeph steps forward, feints, and sneak attacks Thrul 3 for 20 damage.
Jet skirts the battle and rides up to Alexi, curing him.
[OOC: No action from Keela. So post two round's worth of actions as soon as you can]
The Enemies
Thrul 4 steps up, drops his crossbow, draws a sword, and attacks Zeph. He hits AC22, exactly what he needs, for 9 hp, max damage.
Thruls 2 and 3 step back out of Zeph's reach and shoot at him. One bolt connects (hitting AC26) for 7 more damage.
The tangling goo on the lizard hound dried up and flaked off after 5 rounds. Now it is free, just in time to go down snarling! It snaps at Galin, hitting AC15, a miss! [Darn dice roller!]

OOC: if i read it correctly, when healing damage through magic, an equal number of non-lethal damage is healed. So that would be 9hp healed and the 4 non-lethal removed, i think.
IC: Alexi thanks Jet for the healing, consoled that he gave the others time to converge and finish the job. Gathering his strength, he looks over the battle field. With one hound left, he wonders if that hound could be tamed, or at least not killed. He activates his necklace and trusts the Ahote Shaman's spell, even though he'd not had occasion to use it yet.
Cast Calm Animal at 5th level affecting 2d4+5 HD of creatures. Will save DC15 for animals trained to atack. 2d4+5 = 10. If hound fails the Will save he remains where he is and does not attack or flee. However it will defend itself. Any threat will break the spell. Duration 1min/lvl, so 5 min.

DM Cayzle - Downed machine, downed foes Friday November 12th, 2010 7:55:58 AM
Keela looks at the flying machine. It seems to be made of Darkwood -- a special wood you may have heard of, that is as strong as regular wood, but only weighs half the usual amount. The rest of it is made of canvas and a strong thin scaly leather. It is much like a triangular covered wagon. with no wheels. Keela does notice that it has taken some small damage to its underside, likely in its unexpected landing.
Garret wonders out loud about the one lizard you think got away. To the best of your recollection, it was headed in the same general direction you were, but got lost in the tall grasses of the scrublands you are in now.
Zeph urges the party to search the pilot for his pass.
Then Jet and Zeph ride back to the clearing in which the first half of the battle took place. From there, they try to track the enemy. But lacking the track feat, they really don't much know what they are doing. [OOC: per the skills in question, you can use Survival to track without the track feat if the DC is 10 or less.] At first, Jet can see where he ran off, and that he was heading slightly to the right of where the second fight ended up. But after 200 feet, he seems to have crouched down, hiding, and going more slowly, and tracking him becomes harder ... too hard for Jet and Zeph.
Gilan thanks Charek for the healing, and Charek gives him another jolt.

DM Cayzle - All accounted for d100=15 ; Monday November 15th, 2010 7:46:49 AM
Keela casts detect magic on the flying craft. The iron framework is magical, as is the attached seat for the pilot. Not the wood and canvas floor, seats, and surrounding.
Zeph looks with her, but he has no mending to use today.
While she does this, Alexi gathers up all the gear and loot. Then Keela can analyze it too.
As for the fallen foes, she finds ... Over the curse of this long fight, you defeated 8 thrul (9 counting the one that has so far gotten away), 1 officer thrul, 1 pilot kothrul, and 3 lizard-hounds. The loot that you will gather together includes ...
8 magical suits of studded leather armor (medium) 8 magical bucklers (medium) 9 masterwork light crossbows (the fleeing thrul was disarmed before he ran off) 1 magic studded leather armor (small) 1 magic buckler (small) 1 magic chain shirt (officer) 1 magic small shield (officer) 1 magic split-blade weapon (officer) 1 magic badge (worn by the officer)
Garret also finds an ivory plaque around the pilot's neck, covered in writing in a strange script. Maybe the pass?
And you find some basic equipment, daggers, swords, bolts, coins, etc. Maybe what you might guess are about 300 coins, mostly gold.
Galin thanks his new friends from the heart, and Charek sits with him in companionable silence.
Meanwhile, the DM rules that Jet has a one in three chance of stumbling on the fleeing thrul by dint of scent and luck. The roll, on a d100, looking for a 1-33, is a ... 15! Excitedly, the horse whinnies, and Jet sees that some movement in the tall grasses reveals the last enemy! The disarmed thrul draws a sword, but Jet quickly dispatches him. All thrul are downed and accounted for!
And the sound of Jet's quick battle with the wounded thrul is noticed by one more set of hidden eyes. A halfling slave, recently escaped, is watching from under cover. What will she do, when she sees one thrul -- for Jet still has on his disguise, right? -- attacking and killing another without mercy?

Jet does have a merciful streak about him on occassion and if the lizard had attempted to surrender, he might have let him, but as soon as he pulls a weapon, there is no more opportunity for the creature. Knowing now, they are all dead, he lowers his disguise, dismounts, and searches the last remaining one for weapons, armor, money, what have you. He also goes back and studies well the features of the leader, in the hopes he has at some time duplicate his features with the hat, if that is possible.
Jet rides up to Galin, "If your mate is missing, sitting on the ground feeling sorry for yourself and her, will not reunite her with you! Get up on this horse and let us trace your steps aways, while those with more smarts then myself, play with the aircraft."
Jet's tone, is soft and hard, at the same time. He does feel bad for the escaped slave, but by all the gods, Jet is a doer. A go getter! If he ius going to feel sorry for himself or someone else, he will take actions in the process.

May Alemi guide you and keep you safe always. (A pause) I am sorry I have been a bit rude and not introduced myself I am Galin Burfoot former slave of the lizards. I have been on the run for nearly a day or so both me and my wife escaped the mines that are over that way ( points to ware he came from) I have little resources to go on my own and no food would you all be willing to come with me and help or and I on my own I do not think that my luck will hold if I go off on my own. These Lizards are not a very forgiving people and I believe that we kill me on sight. In exchange fore the help and kindness that you have shown me when I find my wife I me pledge my life to your cause whatever that maybe as I believe that Alemi has brought me to you. Just as I know that the gods look down on me I am sure that if my wife has survived this long. I also am sure that the airships might bring her here if see saw them. I am going to go and look around the area and see if she is about and hiding from you as much as the lizards.

I don't know what sort of reporting pattern they have, but it is better that none return to report us and those back at the mines simply wonder what could have happened. Certainly after enough time, they will send others to look for these that are missing. But I think we have more time now."
When Galin introduces himself, Garret steps up and says, "Well met, Galin of, well, of everywhere? I am Garret Goodbarrel, of the Windbourne Hills. I am truly glad to make your acquaintance. We are currently headed towards those very mines in an attempt to free the slaves there. Sadly, this is not our first trip there. I am glad that you have escaped, and I hope your mate is nearby. You are welcome to join us in our quest back there, but I understand if you would rather leave this area."
Garret glances back up into the air, expecting a flock of flying machines to already be searching for them.

Zeph returns to the aircraft and looks it over intently. "We should find a place to lay low and rest first. Gimme a day or so and I'll try to pick apart how this thing works."
Zeph will spend the rest of the day fiddling with the controls in the aircraft, seeing which lever and button does what and how it gets airborne.
Can Disable Device be used for this? I know I'm not trying to Disable, but rather Enable Device, but I'm sure the principle is the same. An example in the book for the skill is rigging a wagon wheel to fall off, well, couldn't ya use the skill to put a wheel back on too?

Jet checks the last fallen thrul and thus brings the loot total up to 9 suits of magic studded leather armor, 9 magic bucklers, and 9 masterwork crossbows.
He does not realize that he is being watched by an escaped slave, unless he his spot check (a 19) is higher than Marilaysa's hide check. [OOC: Put bluntly -- Roll me a Hide check, Marilaysa!]
Meanwhile, maybe a fifth of a mile away, and out of Marilaysa's sight and earshot, her husband, Galin, feels the stress of the battle just ended, not to mention his separation from his beloved. He reveals some details about himself, and declares that he is a follower of the secret slave god, Alemi, whose worship is outlawed by the lizard folk.

Well, wait ... Assuming that the mods to that roll of 7 are not more than +12. Well, let's see, size +4, dex maybe +3 to +5, ranks maxed at +8 ... Well, since I don;t have permission to read the PC sheet in question (working on that with Kristel in e-mail), let's move things along by DM fiat and says that Jet DOES see the hiding halfling. Jet answers Keela, "I have not taken such spells, but can we not call the lady from the wizards guild and let them know we captured one of the fliers? perhaps, she will come to us on this occassion, instead of sitting pretty in her tower all safe and warm?"
Jet can see now, there are survivors. Jet would like to keep the lizard hound, if it is trainable and possible to handle, in human hands. As for the others, Jet looks at Garret, waiting to know what he wants to do with them.

[DM responding to those hw has not mentioned and finshing what he should have done this morning, sorry!]
Garret gives a strong welcome to Galin and asks him to join the party in its mission.
Zeph takes a good look at the flying craft. With Keela, he determines that the undercarriage of the device is a little busted in, but that's not even the magical part of the craft. A few Mendings or Make Whole should set all to rights.
Could he figure out how to pilot the device? That's another question. [OOC: If you have UMD, you can definitely try to blindly activate it. If you can cast Identify, that will help quite a bit too. Once we convert to Pathfinder, I think I might use the new Fly skill when using this device. Meanwhile, give me a Use Magic Device check to blindly activate it, with a +2 synergy bonus from your Disable Device to help you out.]
Keela suggests Zeph wear the ivory plaque when trying to make the craft work. [OOC: Keela, take a 100 xp cleverness award, please.]
Garret takes a look too, but is befuddled.
Alexi, weary from his labors and near death, mostly needs a rest. He does have a short question for the halfling escapee before he needs to catch his breath again.
Jet, spying someone who seems likely to be Galin's wife, calls to her gently. Well, gently for him.
[OOC note on Pathfinder conversion direct from the keyboard of ACDM Jerry: We'll handle this in game, DM to player, not at the Catacombs. When doing the Pathfinder Alexi, I found that all his standard magic items worked the same in Pathfinder as in 3.5. My suggestion would be that we don't total our GP value of items (even if their costs differ) and re-purchase them in Pathfinder unless there is a difference in properties between the two versions. Just my thoughts. :)
IC: Alexi thanks Jet for the healing and feeling a wee bit better, gathers the horses and tethers them, checking for any wounds. Despite all the flying bolts, the horses faired very well.
While tending the horses, Alexi's thoughts ponder Galin's emotions towards his wife and wonders if his father and grandfather ever think much about him. Garret does his best to cover the craft -- using grasses and such, I imagine?
Alexi asks Galin how he got out of the the enemy-occupied village.
Zeph wonders how much hiding is possible, given the battle-scene abouts. He asks about the dwarf wizard who is your contact. She is due to check in with you in about five days (your DM intuits - more or less?)
And your Kindly DM will let Galin tell you the story of his escape.

A few days ago they left a bit of metal near the cage that we were able to reach it my wife picked the door locks and myself and another slave over powered the guards sadly he lost his life in the attempt ( makes sign to Alemi ) rest is soul. Taking the few weapons we have from them we blindly chose mine shafts until we found one that we could see light from and ran as fast and far as we could. It was not very long before the Lizards found the dead and sent a search party after us of the hounds that you killed here. Not long after the started searching for us a couple hounds had caught up to us and separated us. We only survived but diving into the brush that they could not get through. DM Cayzle - Stories Friday November 19th, 2010 7:31:44 AM
Keela offers magical security for a potential camp.
Garret checks in on the unconscious prisoners, then listens to Galin.
After a tender moment of reunion with his wife, Galin explains how the pair came to escape. The rest of the party recognizes their escape route, from his description, as the goat-path the children found long ago, the same path Zeph and Garret used to enter the settlement from above.
Galin thinks about gear for his wife and himself. Most of it is sized too big, of course.
Garret asks about the camp population. The two escaped slaves think there are maybe 20 slaves left, and 5 kothrul overseers. There are larger lizard folk aboveground who do not enter the mines.
Marilsaya is nervous at all these adventurers, with their gear and voices that seldom whisper and shoulders that have not known the touch of the rattling whip -- and yet who speak only the slave-tongue.
Charek helps with the booty and offers some curing potions. Alexi says no thanks, seeing as they might be needed another time.
Alexi asks Galin and Marilsaya if they will help free the rest of the slaves, even if it means returning to that place.
Jet asks them if they can speak the language of the lizardfolk.

turning to Alexi Alexi there is a lot that I can tell you but it will take time for me to do so. I am not a smart man and it is hard to think about such things as the wounds are fresh. It is hard to talk about my former Lizard masters as in the mines speaking out means a beating and after a life time of beating ones will gets drained. I have not been free that long its going to take time to get use to the freedoms but
I have not been at this mine for long I was moved here recently but how long ago I can not say as time does not mean anything in the dark of the mines. There were three times for me time to work time to fight and time to rest.
Do you have any idea how many slaves and guards are there? I am sorry for your friend Galin nods in thanks. he gave his life for freedom, I will remember his sacrifice always
Do you have any idea how many slaves and guards are there? I am sorry for your friend. What is the condition of the other slaves?
he stops for a moment and thinks to answer the questions that Garrett asked I am not sure the condition of the slave they tend to be a ruff master so not sure about that but I believe that there are about 20 or so slaves left in this mine and only a few guards that I saw although that may have changes with my escape there are several shafts that you can you to get in but I am not aware of where there are from here. It was not on the list to things to remember when running for your life
Will they help attack the lizards if they are given a chance? [b] Will they help attack so may so may not it depends of them . You may free them only to find that the fight you as being a slave is all we know and there will may have been broken life in servitude is not easy on the mind or body . turning to Alexi again I do not think that you will be able to sneak in that well my escape and the missing search party may have ruined that Idea but it is up to you
I will follow you back to the mine to help as I have said I would even if it mean facing my old masters again I am free now and by Alemi I will help anyone that I can as Alemi would want it that way for he answered my prayers and freed me and my wife.
Galin turns to the pile and points I saw a few items there that will help my wife my she take them (1 magic studded leather armor (small) 1 magic buckler (small)
Galin also answers Charek I will also decline at the moment for the same reason and your friend there may be more need later
turning to Jet
I am sorry to tell you that I do not understand there language I am not a smart man and slave are not taught anything that is not need to know but I Marilsaya my wife has picked up some if not all of there speech and she is far smarter then I

"I have two spells remaining and they belong to my powers of domain. I can not sacrifice them for healing spells."
FYI to all, I sacrificed all of my spells today for healing. If the battles are only going to get tougher, then I suggest we start pooling our money to buy some wands of healing or something, because I can't cure three warriors and a monk (all of whom are most effective in front of Jet) by myself.

Jet- I'm going to make a prototype Zeph with Cleric levels instead of wizard for Pathfinder and see what it looks like.
The problem I'm running into is that the Gods of the Wold haven't been Pathfinderized yet. So I don't know what Domains a Cleric of Jancassis can choose from... but I can guess the Pathfinder equivilant of Trickery.
Alexi (AC: 22/11, HP:13/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:36/37) Sunday November 21st, 2010 6:03:22 PM
OOC oops, didn't notice Jet had expended all his spells. Oh well, it may take at least a day to get there. Oh, and remember that the portal can only handle up to a certain size. If anyone has a Dominate spell, that might work on the next Thrull pilot.
Cayzle, i'm a bit confused. The goat path led from the inside of Bryn Baraz up the cliff and over, then down to the plains. Are you saying that there's a natural exit from the caves that exits into Bryn Baraz? Or are you saying they exited the mines from the main entrance?
IC: Alexi listens to Galin but says no more. The poor chap has had enough already for the moment. Looking up at the sky and the position of the sun, he also wonders wonders how much time they have before a search patrol is sent, if any.
"We should plan it to arrive at Bryn Baraz after dark. Any lookout upon the cliffs will see us on any aproach during the day. We aproach Bryn Baraz as close as we dare such that we are within half a day's travel. That way, we have ample time to arrive at dark and scout out the cliffs for a safe passage."
Keela Sunday November 21st, 2010 6:21:07 PM
"I don't have much left in the way of combat spells," Keela warns. "I've got a Web and a couple of scrolls, and the wand. That's about it. But if you want to press on, I'm willing to try."

They exited the mines through the front door and climbed out through the goat path, defeating the guards at the top in battle.

Zeph, see e-mail.
Basically I only know how to build one type of Cleric... the melee type. Bastard Sword+shield bash = 2 sneak attacks on flanking... but I may swap those feats for something like Imp Trip or something.

Well, my friends, to answer the question ("What time is it?") I had to go poking in the archives. That led to updating them (see here) and ate up all my morning DM Post time. Sorry. I'll post midday-ish.
Oh, and it is late morning.

Garret says, "It is still early. I think we should hide this craft best as we can, then scout out to see what we're up against. If they send another patrol out after the one we have defeated, it will be easier than if we have to attack a fortified city."
He looks over to the captured lizards and continues, "We need to make sure these are tied up and cannot escape or attack us from behind as well."
OOC: When we're Pathfinder-ized, and when Garret gains a level, he will be able to heal himself a little -- 14 hit points once or twice a day. Not that that helps much now... :)

DM Cayzle - Hiding the machine. Monday November 22nd, 2010 3:01:03 PM
Galin offers details and answers, his emotions clearly strong on some of these issues.
Garret notes that it is late morning, and wonders how far it is to the settlement. His best guess, based on the party experiences in the field and the stories of the two escaped former slaves, is that it is about 15 to 25 miles to Bryn Baraz, that is, a good day's travel, in a generally southwest direction. pretty much.
Marilsaya, still seemingly traumatized by her recent experiences, is not sure how much to say. She is brave enough to offer her help on behalf of those still suffering.
Zeph does his best to hide the flying machine under a screen of grasses and such.
Jet says that his magical resources are quite low.
Alexi wonders when more lizardfish people may be coming near. He has no way to know. He mentions pressing on to Bryn Baraz, arriving after sunset. If you push on today, you could likely do that.
Keela warns that, like Jet, her spell resources are low.
Garret agrees with Zeph about hiding the flying machine, and thinks that it would be better to scout than to rush off to the village.
Galin agrees with that.

OOC:"Unless anyone has any serious wounds remaining or objections..."
let's see, Alexi is a 13 of 58 hp. is that Serious Wounds or just merely Moderately Serious Wounds, or maybe a Scratch?
IC: Alexi stares at Garrett for a moment but then realizes that he'd already plucked out all the bolts and at least half the blood on him was from the Thrulls.
"Well, with our spells depleted and our many wounds, we should wait a bit before continuing on to Bryn Baraz. I suggest travelling about one hour towards our goal and look for a ravine to hunker down in. There we can rest until late afternoon (8 hours). From there, we would approach the cliffs of Bryn Baraz in the dark and we could be atop the cliffs before sunrise. (a day's travel being 8 to 10 hours i think).
We scout out the posistions of the Thrull guards and make plans to attack from there.
Jet and I are familiar with the paths up the cliffs, so we should be able to find them and negotiate them in the dark well enough."
OOC: as a side note, i think we should be able to trade a number of the magical armor for a wand of healing, when the time comes.
Keela Monday November 22nd, 2010 6:10:24 PM
"I like Alexi's plan," Keela says. "Though from what I understand of divine spellcasting, it won't help Jet much.
"Still, I think it would be better to approach at dusk."
Charek AC 22; HP 47/47 Monday November 22nd, 2010 6:31:08 PM

OOC: You can't get back more than one set of spells per day, whether arcane or divine, sorry. Which is not to say you could not hole up if you like. After all, so far as the enemy knows, the last two forces it has sent out into the plains have been wiped out to the last soul. Will there be another sortie anytime soon?
Marilsaya Monday November 22nd, 2010 6:58:30 PM
Marilsaya looks up at Zeph and quietly says "Thank you" she then asks the group hesitantly "May we please have a few weapons and maybe some armour? We will return it when we are able to get our own."
She turns to her husband and whispers "I hope they do not find me rude by asking" then she looks up at him and smiles resting her head on him for a moment. She then starts as she again realizes they are with strangers and she again stands shyly at her husbands side.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:34/33] PF Garret Monday November 22nd, 2010 8:30:28 PM

When Marilsaya speaks up, Garret introduces himself, "Please help yourself to anything you see here. I'm not sure much will be of use to someone of our size, of course. I wish that I had more to give you." He gestures to his half-naked body and you notice he only wears a pair of pants held up by a rope and has a small backpack that is mostly empty.

Jet helps to tie up the prisoners and will take 20 while they are unconcious and helpless, on the Use Rope skill. He mumbles to himself half seriously, "We should take you back to the Ahote and let them give you a trial. maybe a good boarding. By all the gods only Pantheon keeps me from strangling you with my bare hands until you expire."
Use rope skill is at +1 if necessary.
DM Cayzle - A Vale of Rest Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 1:43:09 PM
There is some discussion of what to do next, and the consensus is that it would be best to find a place to hide and recover for a little while. The grasslands offer little in the way of concealment other than the tall scrub-grasses, but a couple miles away you find a natural hollow with a tiny spring and a copse of trees. Here at least, the horses might go unnoticed.
Marilsaya and Galin take first pick from the loot -- the small-sized gear is suited to their needs.
Having concealed the flying craft as best as you could and having tied up the three prisoners (thanks to Jet), you head out, with Charek at point. The group makes a hidden camp in the tiny vale, there the better to rest up and plan.
===== ===== =====
OOC: Planning Ahead.
Please allow your kindly DM the chance to set out his own thoughts for going forward, and then you can talk about options among yourselves. First off, I like to think that I am a player-driven DM, not a DM-driven DM. That means I look to you all for guidance as to what comes next. Here are some options as I see them.
(a) Rest up fast and get to Bryn Baraz tomorrow, before there is any realization that the slave-hunting party has been defeated. Get experience and update PC sheets asap. Once there, rely on force, subterfuge, or diplomacy to approach the central problem and resolve the enemy occupation of the mining camp.
(b) Rest for a week or so. Talk with the prisoners. Learn how to use the flying craft, maybe. Get in touch with the wizard, Katarina, who represents your employers. Train and go up levels maybe. Sel/trade items and loot through Katarina. THEN head to Byrn Baraz with force, subterfuge, or diplomacy.
(c) Oh No! Some catastrophe or emergency rears its head, and the party has no choice but to grapple with the immediate problem at hand, rather than deal with the lizard-folk. Which is probably okay -- having bloodied their nose, the lizards are unlikely to be sticking their snouts outside the village walls for a while, you think. This option gives the DM carte blanche to run some exciting adventure that would give you a break from dealing with lizard-folk. Your characters might rue the necessity that keeps them from the mining site, but you, the players, may want a change of pace.
(d) Some other option I have not thought of? Speak up or e-mail me if you have an idea!
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:34/33] PF Garret Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 2:03:49 PM
OOC: I favor option c or option a.
Galin HP 17/58 AC 19 Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 3:55:57 PM
I can also go with the c option
Zeph 3.5 AC22 HP 26/42 Zeph Pathfinder HP 71 AC 23 Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 4:43:45 PM
Well. From what I can tell, this lizard-city module is a long-term thing that probably requires a lot of play time... which is fine.
But, I remember the Big Lizards that we fought. Their AC was about 27 and their HP was upwards of 70 to 80. There was also an enemy caster in the fight. From looking at this information, we need a couple of levels to be able to tangle with these cats.
SO, I support a side-quest, option C, as long as it flows well with the story that Cayzle is constructing for us.
I want to take down the big floating lizard city, but I doubt we are anywhere near powerful enough yet. And I wouldn't mind a change of pace from the reptiles... they get boring eventually.
BUT, lets think from a Roleplay perspectives. We are wounded, so resting is definitely a good idea. At least for a day or two. But the lizards are mining Bryn Baraz right now and will only further colonize and fortify the town if we wait. Also, we know of a passage into the caves and we know that there are halfling slaves ready to be freed. So attacking Bryn Baraz within the week would be prompt...
so really, it comes down to Cayzle, and if he can give us enough reason to abandon the advantage we have earned and go off on a sidequest.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26 HP:34/33] PF Garret Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 6:48:39 PM
OOC: Zeph, I'm right there with you character-wise. Our characters have got to feel a strong urge to get these guys now, before more slaves are killed, and while they're not expecting us. At the same time, a good side quest that has a draw would be interesting (and fun, player-wise), but as you mention, our characters are going to need a good solid push to stop what they're doing now.
Keela Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 8:28:33 PM
I would like a variation of Option a. I'd like us to get rested and ready for combat as soon as we reasonably can, but continue "nibbling around the edges" of the lizardfolk stronghold. Take out patrols, make quick raids. Hopefully mess with their heads a little, make them more amenable to just cutting their losses and leaving.
That said, if a compelling side quest comes along, it's not like Keela's going to turn it down.
Marilsaya Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 8:37:09 PM
I like option C but with a little bit of rest first (a day or two)
Alexi (AC: 22/11, HP:13/58) Lobo (AC: 19, HP:36/37) Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 9:11:56 PM
OOC: actually, it would seem that b) and c) would go hand in hand.
Here's the deal the way i see it. There's no way we are going to take the city. It is a floating mountain with thousands, read my lips (type), thousands of those things, with who knows how many mages? I think that just keeping them from mining any mithril is good enough. Soon, they'll either park the city over the mine or leave it be.
Ideally, in the Real World, a spy would hang out at the mine, perhaps a hafling above the entrance where we found Puma, and keep tabs on the forces involved and their guard patterns.
IC: Alexi is pleased to find a good hiding spot. "Can you of you nimble guys climb a tree and keep a look out for the enemy?" he suggests. Then he sees to the horses.
The rest would go back to the Ahote, turn over the Thulls for the Ahote version of Justice, trade out stuff for a Wand of Healing, then head back.
Of course, if something in the intervening time comes up, whoever stays at the mine gets left out, so if we choose that (the spy at the mine) then I'd say we go straight to the mine without any side adventures.
If we all go back to the Ahote, that leaves good room for a side adventure or two.
So again, i'm for a b) and c) combo, or just a b)
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/22 no dex, HASTED HP: 20/53) Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 11:55:29 PM
What Jet does not want to do, is keep taking Bryn Baraz, over and over again. We can not possibly, with a group of this level, secure the mines from these creatures, when they come back to reclaim it. If the mining company, can't figure out a way to get some mid to high level mercenaries out here, then they can have it. Keeping lizards from mithril is not my idea of heroics.
So, if we take the mines again, then when we are done, we can go do something else. Jet would like to spend a bit of time in civilization some where, before he becomes surly and bad tempered.
Jet Stormway (AC: 22/21/22 no dex, HASTED HP: 20/53) Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 11:58:10 PM

On the agenda for today: the captives and the flying craft. Do you have the capability to Identify its command words? Is it possible that the captives know what to say to make the thing fly?

OOC: I'm counting 5 votes for C, 2 for A, and 1 for B, with Charek still to vote and Jet not really picking among the choices offered ... :-)

Jet, Garret, Alexi, and Galin are concerned about the prisoners, and what they know. They prepare to get some truthful answers out of them.

You may certainly threaten them -- that's what the Intimidate skill is for. Roll your Intimidate checks to see how they react. "So from now on, we kill everybody and ask their corpses the questions, eh?" Jet says just loud enough for the lizards to hear him. While Jet is still bloody, he walks over to the prisoners and asks plainly. "If none of you can speak the common language, then we have no use for you and I will have to kill you instead of letting you run home free. If you do know the common tongue, then we will allow you to have a trial by the Ahote people and if you pass, then you will become their slaves. Fitting as I see it, since you tried to make them slavesm perhaps a whip on your back can give you a sense of accomplishment."
ooc: If they don't speak common, Jet kills them as quickly as possible. I will take the alignment hit for the team I guess, but we can't have them return home to fight against us again and that is basically the only option available as I see it.
If they speak common, which I think they do, Jet will tell them what is about to happen. "I am a powerful priest to all the gods. I have a spell that will tell me if you are lying to me or not. If I sense you are deceitful, I will slowly remove various parts of your body and I always start with the most important parts first! If we were in your company and you asked us questions, I am sure, you would eventually get those answers out of us and so it is the same here. We will discover what we want to know, how painful it is to you, is your choice."
Jet tells the group in private, "Once I cast my Zone of Truth spell, we will have four minutes to ask the questions. I suggest we figure out what questions to ask before I cast the spell. The priorities are of course the numbers that remain in the mine, but what about the leaders badge and what does it do that is magical?"

"We offer the same bargain your sorceress offered us. Become Slaves or become food. However, few of us here, if any, want slaves and would rather feed you to the magots.
