Tahni: You caught me with the Necrotic damage thing. Good job. I forgot you asked about whether the woman was disarmed. Let's assume you asked Captain Redforge about it.
The Captain says, "Oh, you mean the Halfling woman's dagger? Yeah, look at it, but we were going to keep it for evidence." he says as he hands you the dagger.
Knowledge Religion DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {This is definitely a dagger once owned by a follower of Marteaus, the ancient enemy of Domi and Alemi. It has a strong necrotic evil aura about it, like it may have been used in a ritual }
Then the group heads off in the marching order: Braugh, Boomy, Tahni, Frootloop.
You walk for 3 or so hours and the sun is slowly approaching its highest point. It is currently fall in the Wold, slowly turning into a bitter cold for the southern part of the continent. The trees are turning yellow and red all about you as you traverse the hilly road. There is also a very warm breeze hitting you right in the face, coming from the direction you are headed.
Instructions are to head North until you hit the bridge, then cross it.
After five hours of walking, you reach the bridge. It's truly a massive sight to behold. It seems to be at least 20 yards wide and over 300yards in length, leading to the other side. It is made of large logs strewn together with a mortar material and the cracks are filled with stones as big as a man. The structure is held up by a series of pylons made of the same whole logs+mortar and limestone material. It looks to be about a good 40yard plummet to the bottom, which is a raging river filled with jagged rocks.
More to come, feel free to post if you want, but I gotta go to Judo and will write some more when I get back.

Meanwhile, as the party arrives at the bridge...
"... and then he says, 'sickle? I thought you said pickle!'" Tahni finishes her joke with a laugh as they arrive at the bridge. She pauses to admire the large construction "A magnificient structure. What do you say, Bruagh, do you think it is of dwarven construction?"

The Captain informs you that he shall use the information you uncovered and get to the bottom of this.
Tahni fiddles with the necklace and inspects it as the group travels. If you have no ranks in a skill, then the max roll you can take is 10+modifiers... at least in my game. Nonetheless, she assesses that the necklace is made of silver with a blue sapphire, worth at least 50gold but could be up to 200 based on the cut of the gem. It is not magical. Oh yeah, and I was serious about taking away a hero point for throwing ale.
Tahni's perception and survival checks reveal that this is an area of heavy traffic. Caravan wheel marks, tracks, footprints, animal scat, abandoned crates, and trash litter the bridge.
Though curiously, nothing is currently passing.
Braugh can tell that Dwarves definitely had a heavy hand in the construction of the bridge, if they didn't do it all themselves. Can't tell other races from that check.

Just weighing in as Rules Dm, Re Skill Focus: if it applied to both Armor and Weapon I would take it but otherwise, not worth it.
The craft skill is actually several distinct skills. You don't simply have ranks in Craft, you must choose Craft: Armorsmithing, Craft: Weaponsmithing, Craft: Alchemy, etc, and can have different ranks in any of those. Perform, and Profession work the same way. Skill Focus would apply to one distinct category. Skill Focus: Craft: Armorsmithing, for example. Craft is the way to make non magical items.
Note that casters with an item crafting feat can use Spellcraft for most magical craftings, or the actual craft skill.
Troy
DM Addison: Here is my argument. So a spellcaster could take the Magical Arms and Armor feat, invest heavily into ONE skill, spellcraft, and make stuff, without even touching any crafting skills. While a non-spellcaster must invest in EITHER Craft Arms OR Armor Skill, and the skill focus feat only applies to one of those. Then he can only make non-magical stuff. That is silly.
What about Profession: Blacksmithing? That would cover Arms, Armor, and horseshoes.

I'm down for Profession: Blacksmithing to cover both armor and weapons, but gotta get his approval. For now you can take Weapon Focus: Dwarven Axe though.)
The group walks along the bridge and look about, weapons drawn.
It is eerily silent. The warm breeze blows from the Scab and hits you in the face. You can smell the ash in the air from the volcanic land beyond.
You walk and see them from a distance. Duergar. They have an Emblememblazoned on their black metal armor. Their skin is grey and beards range from gray to black to white. They have dark goggles covering their eyes.
They do not hide. They stand there, four total. One is holding a GreatSword relaxed at his side. Another a large hooked reach weapon, a Guisarme, that he is using to stretch his arms with. The one in the back kisses a necklace and taps his Warhammer on his boots. His beard is very grey and old looking and his armor dingy. Then there is a woman Duergar. Her face is pointed and she only has a goggle on one eye. The other flashes an odd silver color in the light. She mounts a crossbow on top of a broken cart, at least 5 feet up. The last one is a bit scrawny and looks scared. He is constantly looking behind him, as if he's waiting for something to happen. His armor is but a chain shirt and his weapon but a simple broadsword that he holds with shaking hands.
Then, there is a sudden rumbling from the ground... er bridge, to the right. A hole opens up in a large log, dirt shoots into the sky, and out pops a Dwarf with an Oaken Club and Wooden shield. He is extremely dirty and you think you can see branches in his beard. What kinda self-respecting dwarf would keep shrubbery so close to his mouth?
THe Duergar holding the Guirisame says, if you speak Undercommon, Highlight to display spoiler: {"You see, I told you they don't reproduce normally! They just pop out of the ground!"}
They all laugh.
Then, suddenly, they stop laughing and stare at you. The one with a crossbow shoots a bolt at Braugh and it hits right at his feet (AC 12). The one with a warhamme and shield raises his holy symbol. A red light shines from it. The opponents have a red aura around them.
The one with the Greatsword smiles and snorts. His helmet has a chain hanging from it... and something is stringed on the chain... ears

Tahni brings her palms together and prays for her colleagues to take strength from Alemi Cast Bless. Duration: 6 rounds. Allies get +1 to attack rolls and saves vs Fear
Looking around, there are not many good places for cover on the bridge. Tahni makes a break for the nearby cart. Move to M,-7

Braugh. Go ahead and do Profession: Blacksmithing or one of the Craft skills until Troy or Jerry shake the no no finger at us. You don't have many skill points and I'd hate to see you die by being thrown off a horse on a failed ride check.
The Fight
Tahni casts bless, bathing everyone in a nice glow. +1 to hit and +1 will save vs fear. Please put your active spells in your header as a reminder to apply them. Tahni, its your responsibility to tell us when to take them off the header.
Braugh can see evil all over these guys' souls. He selects the Greatsword wielder for his Smite Evil.
The Duergar with the Greatsword says, "The hand of who is going to kill me? You better have a diety on your side because your gonna need it."
He steps forward and swings his sword. Braugh steps back once. Another swing flies at him and Braugh places his shield in front of it in time, absorbing the blow. Hit AC 14, not enough.
The sword is made of a Bluish-Black metal that could be Adamantium... or perhaps some sort of alloy form it. When it swipes your shield it makes an odd woooooooooom sound like a Japanese man unshiething a sword.
Tahni's perception reveals that the two Duergar Fighters have Breastplates made of the metal, as well as the GreatSword and the Cleric's shield.
The Duergar with the Gurisame takes offense to Frootloop's words. He replies, "Out of a horse's ass huh? Lets see if you can talk so much with your face in the dirt."
Boomy steps up beside Frootloop and the Guirisame reach weapon wielder looks a bit worried, but then the Cleric's hand is on his shoulder and he says, "We take this by the numbers. Nice and easy Bartholemew."
Then, the Guirisame wielder steps to 10feet of Frootloop, about to swing, when the Dwarf's ready action kicks in. Frootloop hops forward with blazing speed and begins the attack. He knocks the Duergar's polearm up and then dives his axe into the gray skin's chest.
Your axe penetrates deep, but some of the blow seems to be absorbed by the armor.
Then, he counter-attacks by stepping back, keeping you at his 10foot reach and then trips you! Hit CMD 18. Yours is 10+4str+1dex+1bab = 16. Sorry, but we gotta give all the rules a good run-through.
Frootloop is now Prone. Move action to stand up, provokes AOO from the Guirisame guy and the cleric. Or stay prone and take -4 to AC and to-hit. Kinda sucks, but we gotta do these things to get the rules a good work out.
Then, the Old Dwarven Cleric steps up to Frootloop as soon as he hits the ground and brings his hammer down hard on his chest. Hit AC 22, nat 20, roll to confirm 20. LOL. 7 damage to Frootloop. Keep the D0rf alive fund anyone?
Bartholemew laughs "See, can't spit insults with dirt in your jowels, eh?"
Boomy sees the fight going about him, unfortunately since Frooloop initiated the chain of events, he was targeted by the Duergar's nasty fighting tricks. But now is his opportunity to manipulate this battle unfolding.
Two on one certainly isn't fair.
Kreyton throws a spear directly into his own foot. Natural 1's suck. 1/2 speed for 1d4 rounds.... 4 rounds. lol
The Duergar Engineer hides behind a cart as well and throws what seems to be a vial of liquid into the air... aimed at Tahni! Luckily, his aim is quite off and it only hits AC 10, splashing near the cleric, setting some of the bridge on fire.
Sense Motive DC 10 Highlight to display spoiler: {The Engineer seems very preoccupied and his mind is not on the battle. He constantly looks behind him and is sweating profusely.}

She needs to be closer to aid her friends as best she can. She elects to try something ..... unconventional. She maneuvers herself along the side of the cart towards the head, and picking up the handles, pushes it towards the Duergar woman with the crossbow.
OOC: Using the cart as a form of mobile cover. DM, let me know if I need a strength roll for this. From the SRD: "A character can generally push or drag along the ground as much as five times his maximum load (in this case: 5 x 115lbs = 575lbs). Favorable conditions can double these numbers, and bad circumstances can reduce them by half or more." Hopefully having a cart with wheels is considered favourable. Will extend her arms downwards as much as possible - possibly stooping? - to raise the other end (the end pointed at the crossbow) as high as possible. Move in a straight line at the crossbow woman - without running anyone over!

* I believe that since he was in melee range and he backs out of my area to make an attack himself, he too provokes an AOO, just like a caster taking a 5' step to cast a spell, the opponent gets to make an AOO, and if I am right, here is my attack: hit ac21 for 14 damage *
Jumping up from the ground, Frootloop looks visibly shaken. Not in a fearful way, but in a he's pissed way. His eyes change to grey, then black, then bloodred. His clothing begin to fit more snug and the cleric clearly hears Frootloop's knuckles crackling as the grip on his axe grows tighter.
rd1 of Rage
And with a roar, and then a growl, Frootloop raises his axe up above his left shoulder, and then as he swings it at a downward and to the right arc, Frootloop's body shifts with the swing to be facing the cleric, (who, is within melee reach, since the post shows he hadn't moved after attacking), strikes with vengeanance on the abomination.
hit ac 22 for 16 damage (rolled a 1 on the initial damage, used hero point to reroll, got a much more satisfying result)
DM Addison A 5-foot hop NEVER provokes an AOO. A caster can 5-foot hop away from a fighter and cast a spell safely. The best way to think about it is "What doe each person threaten?" Right now only the Guirisame wielder threatens everything at 10feet, but not adjacent. Everyone else threatens adjacent only.

Boomy yells in undercommon to the cowardly Duergar in front of him. Hey, I am your opponent now. What type of cowardly elf spawn fights two against one? With that the nimble dwarf summersaults between Doven and Bartholomew [acrobatics = 24 to avoid AoO] and draws his cold iron dagger. Rising to his feet he attempts to relieve Bartholomew of his guirisame [disarm = 22]. (Doven is now flanked for Frootloop)
Boomy then calls out to the others, informing them of the engineer's odd behaivor.

DM Addison: Disarming provokes an AOO unless you have Improved Disarm Feat. Fortunately, both you and Frootloop provoke an AOO this round, so he may only take one w/o Combat Reflexes, which he doesn't have.
Also, I rule that a Monk is not counted as unarmed for the purpose of things like this, so you didnt have to draw a dagger to avoid the unarmed disarm attempt penalty.
Boomy HP 11/11 AC 17/17/13 Tuesday November 16th, 2010 2:14:04 PM
ooc: If that is the case Boomy will not draw his dagger.
Also, the acrobatics check was for passing through the enemies squares to move behind them without provoking an attack of opportunity.
I was aware of the AoO for the disarm, but the text from the piazo website reads If you do not have the improved disarm feat, or a similar abillity, attempting to disarm a foe provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver
If that is the case the Guirisame cannot attack adjacent squares and cannot take the AoO, and the cleric is not eligible for the AoO since he is not the targe of the maneuver.
Addison: Y'know, I thought that you were trying to take advantage of how he doesn't threaten adjacent squares. Clever.
Then, I thought of the opposite, what if a person tries to disarm you from a distance with a reach weapon, should you be afforded an AOO vs the disarm even if you don't threaten the opponent?
Maybe I shoulda put him in armor spikes too. ;)

To be honest, I am not that clever. I am used to the spiked chain from 3.5 and completely forgot that the Guirisame cannot attack adjacent squares until comment in Frootloop's post, after I had already posted. I chose to move where I did so Frootloop would br flanking Doven and I chose to attack Bartholemen because he was out of Frootloop's reach and I chose to disarm him because it would mean that Frootloop was only in range of one opponent and would be a more fair fight.
Also, I suppose I should clarify something. Since you are counting Monks as being armed with thier hands when disarming an opponent, does this also apply to taking AoO? If it does, then I will remain unarmed. If it does not, then I will keep the dagger out so that I can take AoO if they present themselves.
As for the AoO against a disarm on a reach weapon, I would have to check, but I think the rules state that you can only make an AoO against foes you threaten.

Devlin had been following the "dark blood's" for days now. Watching and waiting, learning what he could about them before he struck. Now it seems that Wardd has decided a little luck should shine upon him. As the two sides bantered Devlin had set up two firing locations slightly past the Duergar's end of the bridge than settled in. Alright lets give these bastards a surprise.
Devlin fires his first shot at the one called Eddy the bolt striking him in the back. He than crawls 5 feet to the left grabbing the other crossbow hoping to confuse his opponent as to where he is. Unfortunately he knocks over a pile of loose rubble sending a cloud of dust up around him.

I'll try and make it sometime at work, just gotta be sneaky, and I cant change the map at work.
Tahni decides to pick up the cart and move it in front of her as she approaches the battle.
This Frustrates Lila, the Sniper, she shouts "Can't shoot it, going for next target." She shoots at Kreyton and hits AC 13, miss. The bolt sticks in his wooden shield.
Frootloop stands up, provoking an AOO from both the Cleric and the Guirisame guy. THey hit AC 12 and 4, miss and miss. Frootloop bats away the blows with his greataxe, and even chestbumps the hammer away.
Then Frootloop raises his axe and begins the assault on the Cleric. THe Duergar tries to defend himself, but Frootloop's rage induced arms batt his shield aside and then cuts deeply into the man's chest. Blood spurts into the air and drenches the battlefield, he yelps in pain. 14 damage for duergar cleric.
The Cleric counters in an unvonventional way. Instead of attacking, he hops back right out of your reach and casts a spell, Spellcraft DC 14 Highlight to display spoiler: {He casts Protection from Good}.
His aura grows more unholy.
Boomy takes a different approach. He jumps and dives through the defenses of the duergar and gets up behind the Gurisame-wielder. Boomy puts his arms under the Duergar's from behind and neatly removes the Guirisame from his hands.
Bartholemew curses, "Damn bloody son of a tree stump."
Then he draws his reserve weapon (drawing weapon is move action that does not provoke AOO), a BroadSword very similar to Eddy's. He attacks Boomy, and hits AC 20 for 3 damage! Stabbing directly into your shoulder.
Braugh drops his Dwarven axe and draws the Razor-blade sharp adamantine handaxe from the Orcs. (You do know that Smite Evil overcomes Damage Reduction right?).
Alas, although the blade shines with holy light from the Smite, the blade does not pierce through the Duergar's Adamantine BreastPlate. (Hit AC 15 no good).
Then the Duergar with the Greatsword counter-attacks. "OH, so you were right Doven, the Orcs did fail. Oh well."
Then he swipes his sword in an upward and downward motion that you deflect (hit AC 14, miss)
Devlin suddenly appears behind Eddy down the path a ways and plugs a crossbow bolt right in his abdomen. The little Duergar screams, "I wasn't cut out for this! I'm an engineer!"
Doven shouts back, "You stay your post and do your job!"
The Engineer, Eddy, wimpers, but responds in towe. He looks at Devlin and frowns, "I know your type. Pick on the little guy in the back huh?"
He throws a vial of Alchemist Fire at Devlin, hitting Touch AC 19! Only 1 damage from the fire though. Reflex save DC 15 or be burned for 3 more damage next round. Rolling on ground gives +2 to the save.
Kreyton throws another spear at Bartholemew as the Duergar engages Boomy. The spear, hits squarely on the Emblem of the Duergar's chest piece and bounces off harmlessly. He laughs, "You'll have to do better than that!"

Range: Any attack at more than this distance is penalized for range. Beyond this range, the attack takes a cumulative --2 penalty for each full range increment (or fraction thereof) of distance to the target. For example, a dagger (with a range of 10 feet) thrown at a target that is 25 feet away would incur a --4 penalty. A thrown weapon has a maximum range of five range increments. A projectile weapon can shoot to 10 range increments.

Bruagh, having never successfully Smiten anyone, would probably not realize that when he is in his righteous rage that he has the power to allow his weapons to overcome more power metals such as adamantine. Bruagh continues his assault in vain before finally finding a weakness in the Duergar's armor.

"Can't shoot IT? I wonder if that meant me?" Tahni considers, before responding in her own non-lethal way. And with that said, the angry dwarf hefts his mighty weapon and rains more pain down upon the unholy priest. hit ac15 for 16 damage.
ooc nothing was ever said about my question of the guisarme weilding guy provoking an attack of opportunity for disengaging from melee to make a ranged attack. if so he's shy 14 hit points.
DM Addison: I said this already. Cop and paste:
A 5-foot hop NEVER provokes an AOO. A caster can 5-foot hop away from a fighter and cast a spell safely. The best way to think about it is "What doe each person threaten?" Right now only the Guirisame wielder threatens everything at 10feet, but not adjacent. Everyone else threatens adjacent only.
Well... before he got disarmed. So you did not get an AOO b/c he only hopped 5-feet away from you and then attacked with the trip.
But please feel free to curse in my game as long as it doesn't get out of control. I believe that we are all adults here... though Jerry will probably yell at me for allowing such things.

Devlin is only slightly burnt, for surely the flask would have landed about his prone position, so lets say you take 1hp of damage. Yeah, keep track of your ammo if you wish. The only time it really comes into play is when you have magical bolts and such. He fires at the scared engineer and taunts him.
Eddy the Duergar Engineer has had enough at this point. He says in Duergar Highligh ONLY if you speak Duergar, Not undercommon or whatev. Or roll a DC 14 Linguistics check, we gotta use that skill for something. Highlight to display spoiler: {, "Screw this, I'm going to go check on it. Dudley probably screwed it up somehow."}
Then Eddy sets at a dead sprint down the bridge running towards something in the distance.
The other Duergar look rather pissed that Eddy appears to be running away.
Braugh sacrifices Min/Maxing for RP value and Earns a Hero Point! I hope you lose it stupidly though because a warrior dropping a weapon in a combat is just foolishness. A bow maybe, but your Heirloop hand-crafted killamajig? WTF bro.
Nonetheless, Braugh swings his handaxe, kicks Humphrey in the chest and plants the blade right into the Duergar's thigh, white hot with smitey action. 6 damage for him.
He retorts, "Tell ya what, lets make you a little easier to hit."
Then he steps in and doesn't attack you, but attacks your Shield. He hits CMD 18, yours is 10+3str+1dex+3chasmite = 17 right? Successfully shaving off a chunk of your shield doing 6 damage to it.
The Adamantium blade just seems to peeeeeeel through the steel of your shield.
Sunder baby... yeah, min damage, can villians have hero points? Or villiant apoints and reroll too? Check this out. Heavy steel shield has hardness 10, that is bypassed by the Adamantium Great Sword. But it also has 20hit points. He reduced the shield to 14/20 hit points. If it gets below half, it gains the Broken condition.
Gotta work these rules out too.
Boomy wisely positions himself to FLANK both Bartholemew with Frootloop and Doven with Kreyton. Acrobatics ftw, monks can put Ki into that stuff later.
Then Boomy attemps to grapple the Cleric Doven. He spears him like Bill Goldberg, but the Cleric stays strong and smashes Boomy over his bald head. Sorry 13 is not enough to bead his CMD with Protection from Good on him.
The Evil Aura assist greatly in preventing the grapple.
At the same time, Frootloop attacks and the Protection spell helps again. His shield catches Frootloop's axe and he flings it back at you. AC 15 not hit.
Then, Doven takes a 5-foot hop, deflanking himself and casts Cure Light Wounds. His concentration check to cast defensivley is 23, so he does not provoke an AOO, but only heals 4hp.
Doven shouts back at Eddy in Duergar language 14 Highlight to display spoiler: {, "Fine, just make sure the damn thing works!}
Then Doven looks at Boomy and Frootloop, and says in common, "I'm a bastion of Defence" Then he puts his shield up with his hammer and armor and awaits your attacks.
Bartholemew says, "We've been in bigger scraps than this haven't we pops?" and then Tahni casts Create Water in Bartholewew's mouth. He coughs up the water and looks angry.
"Wretched girl. Wait till I kill your friends and have you as a prisoner! You shall clean my feet!"
Doven nudges at Bartholemew, telling him to flank Boomy with him.
Then, Bartholemew steps to flank Boomy with Doven. I put ya on S-0 for the last turn and this is their best move for their turn.
Bartholemew steps and although distracted by Tahni's water (I didn't add the +2 flanking bonus to his attack), he still slices deeply into Boomy's abdomen, allowing some of his intestine to peek out. Hit AC 22 for 7 damage. Boomy down to 1hp, ohhhh nooooo. Battle Cleric where you at?
Then, the Crossbow girl who is also lying prone, shoots a bolt at Devlin, hitting AC 21 for 4 daamage, even though your prone.
SHe shouts, "I'm the crossbow queen in these parts honey. Better leave the whelp alone."
Duergar w/ Greatsword, Humphrey: down 6 hp Duergar w/ Broadsword, Bartholemew: down 6HP. Duergar Cleric, Doven: down 10 HP Duergar Crossbowess, Lila: Prone, sniping Duergar wimp, Eddy: down 4 hp from crossbow bolt

Tahni can hear the Duergar mutter something between themselves, but it's a language she is unfamiliar with. A loud groan from Boomy draws her attention to the serious looking gash in his stomach. She's too far away to offer any magical protection ( All her aid/cure spells are touch range at this level) but nonetheless is honour bound to aid him. Her heart is pounding loudly, and steeling herself she makes her move.
Moving from behind her cover, standing in the open, she taunts Doven loudly in undercommon Highlight to display spoiler: {"Oi, is that ye son there or is a troll bending over?"} and decides he deserves the same bath that Bartholemew took. Highlight to display spoiler: {"Now I see the family resemblence!"}

Boomy hears the duergar, but has no skill in interperting language. As the engineer runs off he tries to determine the reason (sense motive = 14), but is distracted just long enough to leave a gap in his defenses. His attention is brought back to the fight as the searing pain of Bartholemew's sword tears into him, exposing his intestines.
As his intestine begin to poke out and decides he needs to either take one of these guys out fast or retreat for some quick healing. His first instinct is to try to disarm the duergar, but Tahni's call and quick distraction cause him to chamge his mind. He reminds himself that a dead dwarf cannot get his revenge, and by acting foolhardily he is putting others at risk. Taking advantage of Tahni's distraction he does a few back flips while drawing his new Guirisame, all the while dodging weapons and catching his enemies off guard and moves out of range (Acrobatics = 27 Nat 20!!!). He then draws one of his CLW potions and drinks the healing draught within. Every character will have their own line of quests and objectives to complete along with the primary storyline. Braugh and Tahni will have less side stuff to do b/c their characters have more to do with the primary story than others.
I have ideas for sidequests written in my head for several characters. (Kreyton for example wants to take down the Duergar Fortress that is harvesting his forest for fuel). The Eye-Patched Gnome that Jonathan Stout plans on playing is the target of assassination (as you know) that he must get to the bottom of.
If you have any requests for things such as these, please email me at aplai13@tigers.lsu.edu and say so.
--Combat--
You are responsible for your buffs. Don't let Tahni's efforts go in vain! Besides, an extra 5% to-hit is helpful indeed.
Tahni moves behind Kreyton and Frootloop and casts Create Water in Doven's mouth.
The Duergar curses and spits the liquid out. He replies, "This bitch sure is asking for it."
He moves to attack Tahni in his anger, but Bartholemew speaks, "Doven! Our goal is not necessarily to kill them. Hold your POST!"
Doven says, "Right, come and take me down if you dare!" Doven goes full defensive for +4AC.
Kreyton steps up and takes his try at swinging a club around. He misses badly though, perhaps his skills would aid in damage control?
Devlin removes the bolt from his own side and shoots at Eddy the Engineer... but misses.
The Duergar Crossbowess, Layla, shoots at Devlin again, miss AC 15. Good thing your prone. She shouts, "Hey, leave the kid alone, I'm the one killing you!"
Eddy meanwhile just keeps on trucking down the bridge.
You sense that something urgent is happening down there.
Boomy also senses that something urgent is happening down the bridge. And who is this Dudley? Another Duergar to be sure.
He decides that retreating and healing is more important than continuing the attack. Holding his innards with one hand and doing a kartwheel with the other, he jumps right behind Frootloop, nest to Tahni.
Tahni looks at surprise that her goal has come to her!
The Guirisame gives Boomy a 10foot reach. Frootloop stands adjacent to Boomy, creating a deadly 10-foot and 5-foot chopping machine.
Doven looks at the formation with the Healer in the back and realizes the effectiveness of it.
Frootloop steps up and starts attacking Doven. Doven's AC is 10+6armor+2Prot from good+2shield = 20. This next turn its 24 with full defensive!
Doven says, "I rely on my god for strength, you better start praying to yours."
Braugh continues the assault on Humphrey and once again delivers another chopping blow at Humphrey's thigh for 6 damage. He grunts and his leg seems to be going limp.
He says, "You don't realize how dangerous a situation you are in, little Paladin."
The ear chain hanging from his helmet is disgusting, and you see it approach you fast. He steps and swings, knocking your handaxe up into the air, then he grabs your shield and turns you around and as you move he slams his sword into your Scale Male.
Hit CMD 23! 15 damage to your armor. The HP of your armor is 5(the AC bonus) times 5 = 25. Its down to 10/25 HP. Therefore it is below half hp and now has the Broken. AC reduced by 3 now basically...
Your armor plates fall about you and the buckles snap and loosen.

Quickly he drinks his curitave potion but in his haste only gets a bit past his lips. He than lines up another shot on Eddy. Once again his aim is off and the shot goes wild. Hopefully with the bastard taking fire it will make whatever task he is trying to do that much harder. Devlin thinks to himself.

Tahni -- AC14/11/13 -- CMD 11 -- HP 11/11 - Bless Sunday November 21st, 2010 7:35:07 PM
Between Bartholemew's words, Doven's actions and Devlin's advice, it is becomming quite clear that the Duergar have something planned.
With Boomy having healed himself, and the rest of the party near intact, Tahni's talents would be wasted on healing. Deciding that now is the time for action, and that the party must break through this blockade, she takes it upon herself to do something dwarven - by that, an act that would be remembered as entirely foolhardy.
She hoofs it back to the cart, and grabbing the handles, continues pushing it in the direction of the crossbowess, steadily gaining momentum "Ramming speed!!!" she calls out in a warcry that Frootloop would be proud of.
Double move. First to the cart, and then to continue it moving it in the direction of the crossbowess. It was still parked diagonally (ie: in that direction) when it was left, so no turns needed. The war cry should give Bruagh enough notice to 5ft step away, though hopefully I can clip Devon on the way through - maybe he'll be considered flanked for Frootloop?. As per the post, looking to build up to running speed with the cart - or at least as fast as dwarvenly possible

The Duergar Humphrey laughs as he nearly destroy's Braugh's armor. Then, as the Duergar steps back, Braugh steps forward, countering the attack. Braugh's white-hot smitey axe chops into the Duergar's chest with ferocity.
Humphrey hits the ground. at -1HP, bleeding out.
Devlin downs a healing draught and fires at Eddy again.
Eddy shouts back, "Hey, stop that! I have work to do!"
And then you notice it. There is a 10foot hole dug in the ground that Eddy is running towards. From the hole you see a red blinking light. Eddy jumps in and slides down the hole.
Tahni grabs the cart and begins hoofing it through the battlefield. Plates of armor are flying about, bloodcurdling screams are heard.
But, Tahni's movement draws attention. She passes between Braugh, Frootloop and Doven the Evil cleric and Humphrey, the prone fighter. Right?
Your movement incurs an AOO then from Humphrey and Doven, luckily Humphrey is now out of it since Braugh posted before you. But Doven is still a threat. He Rolls a 21 on the hit, smacking Tahni upside the head for 6 damage.
Boomy's post kinda confuses me. You can't charge through squares occupied by something or someone like that. Your movement would charge through Kreyton and run through squares threatened by Bartholemew, both are bad. Can't move from Q, -3 to T, 0 like that
Nonetheless, I will put you within range of your crowded Target, but the only way you can make it is by being threatened by Doven. So I move you there.
You do a jump kick and hit Bartholemew for 6damage, which is reduced to 4 by his Adamantium Breastplate. He grunts as your foot plows into his chest and the force makes him caugh up blood.
Frootloop steps to the right and aims after the target with less AC. Frootloop's axe tears through Bartholemew's defenses and cleave into his abdomen. He caughs up more blood now.
But then, he grabs Frootloop's axe and holds it in his side and looks at you with a bloody smile. "When Dwarves and Duergar fight... you should always dig enough graves for both sides."
As he says this, he pulls Frootloop towards him and stabs his Broadsword directly into Frootloop's chest. Hit AC 22, nat 20, 20 confirm crit. 6 and 713 damage to Frootloop
The Dwarven Rager's blood spills yet again!
Then Doven goes. He 5-foot hops next to the fallen Humphrey and says, "Damage control!" He casts Cure Light Wounds on Humphrey (Concentration check to cast defensively = 17, success), healing him for 10points of HP! He's back at 9 now.
Then its Humphrey's turn. The last he remembers is Braugh's axe tearing into him, now he's face-first in his own blood.
He stands up (Provoking an AOO from Braugh) and then counter attacks! He hits your CMD at 16 on the money, dealing 9 more damage to your shield!
The Adamantium cleenly slices the top half of your shield off, its broken. No armor for it now!
The Duergar smiles, "Peeled and ready to be bitten into."
The Duergar crossbowess shoots at Devlin again hitting him square in the top of the head.
hit AC 24, nat 20, crit threat confirmed with 21. Doing 15 damage to Devlin
The Crossbowess stands up and shouts, Head Shot! with her arms in the air.
Kreyton casts entangle, aimed away at the hole in the ground. Roots and branches from the logs that the bridge is made of spring to life and begin choking the ankles of the Duergar in the hole.
Reflex saves are 14 and 20, I guess one success and the other is entangle? You should post the DC and a description of the spell etc.

He stabilizes.
Boomy decides the best course of action would be to stop his enemy's attacks by grappling. Bartholemew's CMD is only 10+2str+1dex+1bab = 14.
The younger Duergar struggles against your grip (attempts to escape grapple hit CMD 14, yours is like 18 vs grapple or something) and he says, "Unhand me you old codger of a stump!"
It seems that "stump" is a recurring insult the Duergar use to describe surface Dwarven races.
Kreyton charges forward, leading the way with his oaken club, leaves in his path. He cracks the Crossbowess upside the head.
She yelps
She in turn takes a 5-foot hop back and launches another crossbow bolt... natural 20... rolling confirm, 22. Total 8 damage to Kreyton. The bolt sticks you right in the chest and pokes out as another piece of wood next to your beard.
Frootloop decides that Boomy has a good hold on Bartholemew for now and steps back to down a potion, healing himself a bit.
The scars are building up on his chest. You should keep a tally of how much HPs of damage you take over the course of this adventure. Your already well over 30.
Maybe I should reward a hero point to ya for every 100HPs of damage eh?
Braugh misses his AOO and then gets his shield cleaved in two. Your AC is now like 14 or so.
Then Braugh takes the offensive again. He places his axe directly two inches to the left of where he placed it last time he brought Humphrey down.
This time Humphrey drops with a nice plop at -2 hit points.
Doven grunts, "Curse you, paladin scum!" and then he attacks Braugh with his mace, hitting AC 15 (and you only have like +2armor bonus now) for 4 damage, leaving a large bruise on Braugh's bare chest.
Tahni ducks down below the handles of the wagon and stabs at the Grappling Bartholemew. She hits AC 19 giving Bartholemew a pinprick that brings him closer to death.

Pathfinde did away with the 50/50 miss chance from 3.5 in large part because grapplers no longer occupy the same square. Devlin is out still... sorry buddy.
Kreyton runs up to Lila and delivers another whop to her forehead.
Lila the crossbowess stands up and hops back. Takingthe full withdraw action she runs to the large hole in the middle of the bridge.
Braugh decides that killing the fighter isn't enough, that you must also kill his healer to get the job done. He wields the handaxe with accuracy and determination, slicing it through the damage reduction of the cleric's shield and armor.
He wails in pain, as the wounds begin to build up on his older frame. He still stands though, defiant to the end.
Tahni pats Frootloop on the behind and he instantly feels like he rested for no less than an hour, removing the fatigued condition from exiting rage mode.
Then Frootloop goes right back into rage mode. Couldn't you guys have saved a potion and Frootloop coulda got another attack in if Tahni just healed him while he was raging?
Nonetheless, as Boomy pins Bartholemew to the ground, Frootloop becomes the executioner, bringing down his axe right on the Duergar's head, splitting it like a watermelon. (He was at 2hp and just got dropped to -10)
Boomy looks like a Halloween prop he's so covered in blood.
But then Boomy can move. He stands up, a bloody and scary sight, and grabs Doven by the neck, twisting the Duergar into a headlock.
Doven stairs in shock, amazement, confusion, anger, as his son is killed before him.
He says in Duergar Highlight to display spoiler: {, "Bartholemew. I'm sorry I could not protect you."} as Boomy head-locks him.
He is held, alone, surrounded by three warriors.

Good morning fellow Woldians. I have a bita news.
This is finals week. My life sucks. DM posting will be sporadic at best as my entire career depends on me passing two exams and finishing 3 papers by thursday.
I will get back on track saturday night to be sure, but just stay frosty and check in every now and then.
And also go ahead and roll for hitpoints for level 2 in the LnB. Everyone gets a hero point as a present from me specifically for rerolling HPs, and you reroll 1's.
I'm not saying level up your character yet, I'm saying get ready for it and make whatever class decisions ya gotta make.
Boomy HP 9/11 AC 17/17/13 Monday November 29th, 2010 10:21:39 AM
Good Luck Addison!!! We'll be prayin g for you.
I am liking pathfinder's mechanics more and more. I just discovered that if you successfully grapple an opponent, on the next turn (if you can maintain the grapple) you can automatically inflict damage without an attack roll.

Good Luck Addision!!! I'm sure you will do well, but just in case, like was said before... we'll say a few prays for you.
Don't worry about us, take a week off if you have to... you have much more important things going on. Oh, since I rolled Max HP on my first roll, can I save that hero point to reroll level 3 if needed?

Nice, you rolled and 11, I rolled a 10 (out of 10), Devlin rolled an 8 (out of 8) Hopefully the others will roll just as well.
As an aside, I updated my level 2 character sheet using Rob's as a Template and plugging some of my info in... it's different, and fits what I need it for... or course I did the same thing to Robs old one so...

Particularly with Acid Splash being a cantrip - in Pathfinder that means it doesn't get used up when cast, therefore unlimited use! Mwah ha haaaaaa. Of course, the flip side is that enemy spell casters will have the same :(

Rob that hero point was given specifically for rerolling I believe, you can't use it for anything else. Or did I miss understand. I thought that was why we were all given one extra.
Tahni -- AC14/11/13 -- CMD 11 -- HP 5/11 Monday November 29th, 2010 10:13:55 PM
It was, but if I reroll, I only have a 50/50 shot of getting a better a better roll. So yeah, not sure....
Bruagh Stormbringer AC 14/12/14(Broken Scale Mail, no Shield) -- CMD 16 -- HP 9/13 Tuesday November 30th, 2010 7:19:39 AM
Well if it's a 1, you will be rerolling anyway. If it's a 3, there is no change. 4, 5, or 6 is an improvement. You only do worse if you roll a 2 which you only have about a 16 or so percent chance of rolling. Tell you what go ahead and reroll it and if you roll a 2 I'll use my extra hero point to reroll it. If Addison will allow it lol.
Addison: LOL, afraid not. Jerry and the gang are kinda adamant about HP rolls being averages so that no character is too far infront of another. Y'know, in my tabletop games I usually give everyone max hp at every level... but then I make hte quests extra hard.
A post will come later today most likely. We will be having a new person join us, Evie, she will be playing a pure cleric... which will allow Tahni to take her next few levels in Wizard comfortably. She will come later though. Evie, feel free to post.

K guys, the main part of the combat seems to be done so I'm not using map anymore for this encounter. It's time consuming and I have homework. Don't worry, the next one will be sweet.
Braugh springs into action, running to the hole and peering into it, with faithful Frootloop at his side.
The two injured and stripped Dwarven warriors look down into the hold and see a very large mechanical device. DC 20 Knowledge: Engineering (not including stone-craft bonuses) or Disable Device or Alchemy check: Highlight to display spoiler: {You remember seeing something like this before. There are liquid containers that are mixing together protected by a metal husk. It will probably explode.}
Two Dwarven Engineers, Eddy and Douglas and the Crossbowess Lila stand there. Eddy has a panel lifted off the large round metal device and seems to be welding something on the inside.
Douglas is holding a broadsword and almost shaking in his boots.
The Crossbowess stands there in front with her crossbow pointed at Braugh's chest.
Perception or Sense motive DC 14 Highlight to display spoiler: {There are tears in her eyes.}
She speaks, "Don't step any closer! You killed Bartholemew. Let Doven go. Let us go!" She looks scared.
Kreyton moves to the unconscious Devlin, meeting the cleric Tahni there.
You both realize that neither of you have exchanged words, but you are both here to heal the unknown Devlin. Such charity
His condition is stable, but a crossbow bolt sticks right out the top of his head. Either one of you gimme a heal DC 15 check to pull it out of his head without causing more damage before casting a healing spell... or it will incur a penalty to the healing.
Devlin may lose some intelligence on this one.
Boomy pins the Cleric Doven and delivers a headbutt that crunches the Duergar's nose, spitting blood on Boomy's face. Doven is out cold but stable.
Signi introduces herself OOC. She will join sometime next week. I'm hoping that Jonathan Stout will grace us with his presence soon.

Using one hand to brace his head around the wound, she grasps the arrow shaft with her other hand and pulls the arrow out in one deft move Heal Check: 17. Phew! Fortunately the unknown dwarf is still out cold, as that would have been painful. At least he will live to fight another day.
She then calls upon her divine gift to treat the wound more carefully Dropping both 1st level spells to cast 2 x Cure Light Wounds for a total healing of 12 HP (3+1,7+1)
"Is he a friend of yours?" she asks of Kreyton.

"FrootLoop stay your hand unless they attack." Bruaghs voice is calm yet firm. "You three please, listen to reason. It's true, one of your friends are dead, and I truly hate that it came to that point, but you three are still alive and you have two more friends up there who will die unless you make the right decision now. I do t know what this thing is but if I were a gambling Dwarf I'd bet the house on the fact that it will destroy this bridge and everything on it. Put your weapons down and I promise that you will not be harmed, as well I promise that we will do everything in our power to save your friends Doven and Humphrey as the are both close to death. Ok guys, here is what I like to call semi-combat rounds. What this means is that things are going to happen on a turn-by-turn basis, but you do not have to necessarily post as if you are in combat. I don't care so much about position unless its important, such as "adjacent to". Boomy's action, for example, would take several rounds in a combat, moving a kart and picking up bodies. There are like what, 3 bodies, so lets say that's 3 rounds. Other people are on-que with the actions, talking and readying actions. The reason for this is because it would take approximately the same time for Braugh to say something to the Duergar as it would take for Boomy to pick up a body. THough this certainly does not stop Boomy from doing other things, such as healing drinking a healing potion (which in semi-combat rounds is NOT a standard or move action, you just do it)
And I totally forgot about the entangle spell, thanks for the reminder Troy.
The two Duergar on the ground are entangled, but Eddy is on top of the metal device doing some heavy welding.
Tahni successfully extracts the bolt from Devlin's head and heals him to the point of consciousness.
Boomy goes about collecting bodies on a cart for the time being.
Devlin, Kretyon and Frootloop walk to the edge of the entangle and ready actions to attack if necessary.
Braugh speaks to the Duergar, hoping to appeal to their sense of survival and reason.
The Crossbowess lowers her weapon a smidge as the entanglement wraps itself around her ankles. She looks at Eddy with tears in her eyes and then to Douglas, and then to Braugh again. She seems to not know what to say for the moment.
Then Eddy speaks up, "Done." is all he says. Lila looks at him with a grave look on her face. They both nod at the same time and they seem to understand each other, and Braugh's sense motive reveals Braugh ONLY Highlight to display spoiler: {It seems that in their mission, survival was only a secondary objective.}
Then Lila screams in anger and raises her crossbow. She fires at Braugh, missing AC 13 (broken armor still good for something huh?). Then Eddy and Douglas throw alchemist fires, both of which land at the heroes' feet, only dealing the 1splash damage that these weapons have to Braugh, Kreyton, Frootloop, and Devlin.

Tahni -- AC14/11/13 -- CMD 11 -- HP 5/11 Saturday December 4th, 2010 7:16:25 PM
After another successful field surgery, Tahni responds to Devlin and Kreyton "You go help them" she motions in the direction of Bruagh and Frootloop. "I'll go help him" as she rushes to help Boomy with the downed Duergar and cart. The sooner they are "taken care of" (either through binding them, or more permanent means) the sooner she can release a burst healing spell - her only means of healing the party at the moment.
OOC to DM: Yeah, heard about the nerf :( Was it agreed that we would make the change to the 30pt buy when we level? Jerry seemed agreeable to that.

Bruagh's face shows a somewhat unexpected emotion upon seeing the Duergar renew their assault. Not anger, rage, or any of the emotions that would be expected, but more of a sadness. It is readily apparent to everyone, the dark dwarves included that Bruagh truly thought the Duegar would see reason and could have possibly been redeemed.
With fire lapping at his feet and crossbow bolts glancing off of his nearly completely destroyed armor, Bruagh says in tone that would barely be audible with the sounds of battle raging around him. "Then your life is forfeit." his voice is barely more than a whisper and has an eerie feeling of finality to it.
Bruagh then jumps of of the embankment, Captain Redforges Duergar craft handaxe wielded in both hands, slamming it as deep into the crossbowess as possible.

Boomy yells to Devin. I'll get it, don't you worry. Just take care of things on your end. And don't bother with captives if they are fighting ya, I have a few here we can question. The old monk makes sure to grab Devlin's cross bow on his way and moves as fast as he can to load the bodies and make it to the end of the bridge.
ooc: How big is the hole? Will there be room for Boomy to join in when he gets there.
DM Addison Tuesday December 7th, 2010 7:11:25 AM Tahni goes to help Boomy collect bodies on a cart. It's bloody work to say the least.
Braugh leaps into the hole and cleaves into Lila. She squeels in pain, steps back, leans on the large metal device, and slowly slides down into a sitting position, life leaving her body. Oh, and I always give you TOTAL damage for things like this. I figured each flask could succesfully splash on two of you guys, so everyone just got 1 fire damage, not 1 from each flask.
Kreyton throws a spear that lands somewhere within the bramble.
Devlin shoots Eddy in the chest. He screams and holds the wound, gasping for breath.
Before Eddy can regather himself, Frootloop jumps clear across the hole and lands axe-first on top of the metal device with Eddy. I should have said its an acrobatics DC 15 check to jump on top the thing, but I forgot. And I didn't forget your redied action, just figured it wouldn't matter in the long run.
Anyways, Frootloop cuts Eddy clean in two. Either half of the small Duergar fall over opposite sides of the metal device, streaking blood all down the sides of it.
Boomy makes sure to grab Devlin's crossbow as he gathers bodies on the cart. The hole is deep enough to hold about 4dwarves uncomfortably between the metal device and the sides of the well. You can also jump or climb on top the bloody metal device.
Only Douglas, the engineer who was working on the device while the battle was originally going on, stands. He drops his sword and raises his hands in surrender as his knees shake wildly.
Then... a beeping begins. With each beep a red light flashes from the inside panel of where Eddy was welding.
Then.... the bridge starts to shake.
Douglas hits the ground and covers his head, crying to some foreign god for forgiveness.
I will not give you DCs or suggest skills to use to figure out what is going on. I would rather let you guys get creative and roll your hearts out and I'll judge afterwards what happens. When you think a skill applies to a situtation (Knowledge Engineering in this case for example) then just roll it.
And on stats: please have them downgraded to the 30-point buy by the first of the year, or level 2,whichever we get to first.

If this bridge falls, a lot of people, Dwarf and Duergar alike, won't be able to get needed supplies. What's worse, your friends who are still alive on this bridge... They'll die. No if ands or buts about it."
Diplomacy: 25
"You have one Vulkin' last chance at redemption, to prove your not some lily-livered, yellow bellied, spineless maggot who's mothers and orc-lover, who'd rather cower in a hole. Now you tell us how to disable this wretched device or or so help me Domi I'm gonna let my large friend over their have his way with you... and let me promise, you won't like it." Bruagh points to FrootLoop to make his point. "You do what I tell you, and I promise your safety as long as you remain civil. You saw what happened when your friends refused me." Bruagh points to the two seperate pieces of Eddie as well as the nearly lifeless body of Lila. "Choose wisely." Bruagh stares into Douglas' eyes, his own flashing as he searches his soul for a spark of good, judging whether he truly has a chance at redemption.

Sorry, I keep forgetting to update my HP's.
DM Addison Sunday December 12th, 2010 4:45:58 AM Kreyton believes that Douglas may hold some clue to deactivating... or at least figuring out... the device. When he searches, the little Duergar shouts, "Hey, what are you doing? How undecent!". He seems to shirk back when you touch him as if you may carry a deadly bacterium.
Nonetheless, Kreyton finds a large number of tools, blasting caps, screwdrivers, welding rods, chisels and the like on Douglass.
Devlin springs into action, proving his usefullness outside of combat.. which is good considering... just messing with ya.
Devlin jumps on the large metal device and peers into the hole that the poor dead Eddy was welding in. Devlin sees what he would interpret as a core of some sort of metal with many wires radiating out from it.
At the same time, Braugh pokes his head in and knows that the metal is a case that contains something inside. What is unknown.
Devlin's knowledge of traps allows him to assume that disconnecting the wires should power down the device... but he doesn't know if there could be any repercussions from doing that. Where would the energy drain into?
There are also a number of gears that are connected to the wires. Another option would be to try to stop the gears by sticking something between them.
Alas, decisions decisions. Of course there are other options besides fiddling with the device and any other creativity on disabling is appreciated.
And the bridge shakes on... violently
Tahni moves to stabilize the dying Dozen cleric, Humphrey, and Lila. They groan with each application of the spell's power.
Together teh appraisals of the weight put the bomb at about 800pounds. Enough sturdy dwarves could theoretically lift it
Religion does not apply here, except when Tahni looks at the bottom of the device, she notices some graffiti on the bottom that shows Marteaus giving Domi the finger.
When Tahni looks into the device and thinks about Arcane-powered things, she knows that strong magical devices can often be utilized for great destructive purposes.
Frootloop clearly votes that moving off the bridge is a good idea as the place is slowly shaking to bits.
Then Braugh speaks to Douglass, the wimpering duergar. He replies, "I would help you if I could. I don't want to die. But... it's too late as far as I know. Eddy was the expert, I'm just a first-semester Graduate student! I couldn't figure out how to make it work to begin with, which is why Eddy ran back. I don't know what to do! It might be able to be disabled, or it might kill us all!" he says the last part rather hysterically.
Douglass is not evil apparently. Just Nuetral and scared shitless.
Boomy says that smashing the device to bits is a good option. It is about 9feet in diameter and made of a strong metal. It is possible to smash it, but would take a large amount of strength. The insides of the device are clearly more delicate though.
Tahni -- AC14/11/13 -- CMD 11 -- HP 5/11 d20+4=24 ; Sunday December 12th, 2010 6:28:25 AM OOC - You mentioned there were lights blinking on the device. Is Tahni able to draw on her intelligence to recognise any sort of pattern that may indicate how much time is left before the device does whatever it does? INT check: 24 (Nat 20).
"Look, any action we take could trigger this thing. It's got a lot of arcane power here, and unless I'm mistaken, it's going to release it all in one big burst" Tahni calls out hurriedly "As far as I can tell, the only course of action guaranteed to save lives here is to get off the bridge NOW. Bridges can be rebuilt - people generally can't".
With that, she will continue to wheel the cart with the stable, hopefully unconscious, and bound Duergar still aboard to the presumed saftey of the other side of the bridge.

Woah guys. Epic group decisions just now. Ditch the bomb instead of trying to disable it? I see we don't have any gamblers in the room. Oh well, maybe for the next challenge the stakes willl be higher.
Though it does seem that the majority of the people are on the same page naturally. This is very important for group congruity. I'm liking it. :)
I'm one of those DMs that is like, "I don't care what you do, as long as you all agree on the course of action."
Tahni -- AC14/11/13 -- CMD 11 -- HP 5/11 Sunday December 12th, 2010 7:41:19 PM OOC: Bomb? Who said it was a bomb? :) And do we get any naming rights on the potential crater?
So guys, based on what I found in the SRD: "A character can lift as much as double his maximum load off the ground, but he or she can only stagger around with it.". We're assuming this thing weighs about 800lbs, although the appraisal roll wasn't that great, so it could be more. With Bruagh and Devlin's strength combined they can lift 690lbs, so we're still at least 110lbs worth of strength short.... As an interesting fact, Frootloop in a rage could pick it up and move it on his own - which would be an awesome sight for a dwarf :)

She decides that the bomb is too powerful to be successfully disarmed and grabs the kart of Duergar. She feels life is more important.
Frootloop grabs what he can and begins to move off the bridge with her, hauling the cart.
Kreyton tells Douglass to stay close by. He begins to cry as the device gets louder and the bridge continues to shake.
Then Braugh, Devlin, Boomy and Kreyton. together grab the device and heave HO!. You guys move the device slowly and it grinds on the ground against your pulls. The beeping is getting ever louder and more distinct.
It takes a bit of time, but enough pushing wears you down, everyone is now fatigued from the effort.
They get to the edge of the bridge, and with one last mighty heave, the Paladin, ROgue, Monk and Druid push the device over.
It falls for10 feet.
20 feet. 30 feet. 40 feet. 50. 60. 70.
It falls nearly 100 feet and splashes into the rocks below the river.
And then... it explodes
The world seems to tumble for a moment as each of you are knocked off your feet if you fail a DC 14 Acrobatics check.
The large explosion is green in color and sends shockwaves throughout the valley. The waters of the river splash hundreds of feet into the air.
Support pillars of the bridge begin to fall, rocks and mortar shattering about you.
Run.
The wagon of Duergar that Tahni and Frootloop are hauling becomes incredibly hard to steer, as planks of wood randomly splinter beneath the rusty wheels. It will take even more strength or enginuity to get the kart off in time.
You have about 30 yards to move the cart. Are their lives worth risking yours?

Frootloop heaves the cart, but the going is rough. Please do a DC 15 Strength check to move this thing. Climb would help too. And acrobatics. You don't gotta make em all, but your success is the cumulative results. And see comment for apologies.
Braugh and Boomy can plainly see that the bomb was dropped to the right of the center and it is likely that at least the middle 60 or so feet of the bridge will collapse. If the bomb had exploded on the bridge, the entire surface would have been unusable.
Boomy realizes that the three unconscious Duergar are in the cart being pushed by Frootloop, the only guy left is the cowering Douglass..
Braugh has a moment of indecision. Run back for his axe and risk life and limb? Or play it safe and flee with the others.

Boomy decides to save Douglass and grabs the little cowering Duergar. He hoist the gray man on his shoulders. Boomy can smell the urine on the man's trousers.
Boomy runs with all haste, cutting a flip through the air to avoid a sudden pit that erupts beneath him.

Frootloop is all muscle as he pushes the cart along. Collapsing rock and debris make walking into pitfalls painful. His knees are scraped up on nails and wood
But, he powers through. Pushing the cart to the land that connects the bridge. Doing so, he takes 5subdual damage. Bringing him to... unconscious? But not dying by any means. HERO POINT FOR FROOTLOOP.. he saved 3 Duergar!
Kreyton and Devlin follow in hot persuit. Devlin jumps, slides and flips to the safe grounds and Kreyton just keeps a steady even pace.
And then Braugh. After receiving Tahni's restorative touch, he runs with all haste to the middle area of the bridge, where he dropped his Heriloom Axe of his forefather's in order to jam a Duergar hatchet into one of the Dark Kin's eye.
The ground is falling beneath him and the run is hard. Several times he loses his footing. 3 subdual damage from scraping your knees badly.
Then, the bridge's connection to the Scab mainland gives. Everything seems to drop about 5 feet except a huge man-sized boulder in front of Braugh. Not letting this deter him, he pulls out the Duergar adamantine axe and slices the boulder in two (strength check).
Just beyond it, he sees his axe, glistening in the sunlight of the day.
His dexterity is just high enough that he reaches forth and grabs the handle as the world tumbles about him.

Rob: I just hope it works out to be enough! There are a lot of modifiers against Bruagh, and I really hope he doesn't meet Domi so early in the campaign :)
DM Addison Friday December 17th, 2010 10:37:56 AM
The group waits in suspended animation, not a person exhales... well, except for Frootloop... sorry about that buddy.
Devlin plants his axe in the side of the cliff and hangs down, extending a hand to Braugh.
Kreyton drops to the ground, and with his face and chest pressed against the earth, and his hand extended... something crazy happens.
The roots beneath everyone's feet begin to extend outward in the direction of Kreyton's hand, almost like an extension of himself... towards Braugh
Boomy, although exhausted, manages to tie together a wonderful lasso (escape artist check for using rope... and you use a touch attack roll to hit a moving target with the lasso).
He spins it about his head just once before tossing it at Braugh.
Then everything seems to happen at once: Braugh jumps. Kreyton extends, Boomy throws the lasso, Devlin reches, and Tahni shouts the timing as to when Braugh should jump.
Braugh is airborne for about 3 seconds. The first thing he touches are Kreyton's roots. Braugh grabs at them with ferocity, but the twigs are weak and break under trying to support his weight. But it keeps him steady just long enough for Boomy's Lasso to hit its target. It wraps around Braugh and tightens.
Boomy starts to pull, and it brings Braugh close enough for Devlin's hand to catch on. He hangs there, one hand on his axe, the clasping Braugh's hand.
Everyone pulls at the same time, and with one mighty exhausting pull, Braugh is back on the ground... with his Axe.
The group looks down at the crashing and tumbling structure that was the bridge. About half of it is destroyed, the half closer to you. A 100foot pit separates you from the edge of the usable bridge. If the bomb had been allowed to explode on the surface, then the entire face of the bridge would be gone, but now only about half (and its supporting columns) are destroyed.
A warm breeze, with ashes, meets you as you look out into the volcanic land. It seems that once you enter The Scab, you cannot leave The Scab.
Everyone gets 900exp for this adventure. WHich should be enough to put you at level 2.
And don't forget that Hero POints give you 30exp x level everytime you are granted one. So a few of you should be at about 1190exp if you earned 3 hero points.
(OOC: If you guys wanna question the Duergar, please be done with it by Monday. Wednesday should be our target day for introducing 3 new people. Are you guys ready? Jon Stout, Evie Clay, and James Rosse? And possibly a guy named Lee)

New Character Sheet. I have redone my ability scores and let's just say, it got ugly. I lost a good bit of AC, CMD, Ranged Attack, Initiative, Will Saves, and a few skill points. My once fantastic AC is now... well, let's just not talk about AC. At least I have a few HP's now. Sigh. Anyway. Not sure if we heal because we leveled or not.
Tahni gives Bruagh a friendly smile and clip on the shoulder "Glad you're still with us". She's conscious of the fact that they are still amongst enemies, so is wary about using her healing skills until she has checked on the Duergar. She notes with interest as Bruagh tends to Frootloop. The healing looks almost divine. Perhaps the group is destined to travel together after all?
Ensuring the captives have been stripped of all weapons, armor and belongings, and that they are still firmly bound, she once again prays to Alemi. Firstly thanking him for ensuring the safety of her friends, and secondly, asking for his divine healing to wash over the group. Use all 4 remaining healing charges to heal everyone in the vicinity for 15pts
As Tahni releases her healing powers, wave after wave, she feels ... different. It is hard to articulate, but some of the power that should be flowing from her seems to dwell within her for longer than it should. "Odd" she thinks to herself, and pays it no mind, before she becomes so light headed that she slumps to her knees on the ground. The dwarven cleric steadies herself before standing again. The unseen powers of the Wold seem to make more sense somehow, and Tahni revels in the knowledge she seems to have gained. Took a level as a Wizard
Bringing herself back to the moment, Tahni examines the equipment that the Duergar possessed (Appraise: 18, 20 for Metals/Gems) before standing over the prisoners. Tact will be necessary, as it seems clear they were prepared to die for their cause, and a prisoner with nothing to lose has no motivation to talk.
She looks over the captives for anything of note, and to determine who may be the most willing to listen to "reason" (Perception: 21) "Give me one good reason why we shouldn't just leave you here?" (Diplomacy: 6 - ouch)

With a groan, and a couple of coughs, Frootloop rolls out from under the rock on his back. Looking up he sees Bruagh kneeling over him and he replies: do not think this means we will take long hot baths together.
Frootloop slows gets up. Wipes the dust and dirt from his tunic and pants, then touches his wounds, grimacing in the fact they still hurt. Grabbing a tunic from one of the druegar, he rips off some, then proceeds to wipe the blood and gore from his hands, arms, face and neck. Then rips off another strip to clean off his axe and armor. Should the Druegar disapprove, he thumps him on his forehead saying: shutup scum lest the next thing I rip is your lungs from your chest.
Then he feels the wave of energy surge through him, seeing the look from Tahni, knowing from her this came from.
Thank you sister of the light, thank you for bringing strength back to these old bones. And then turning to Bruagh, as well as you, too, brother of the light.
Then Frootloop sees all is in hand, the interrogation of prisoners begins, and the introductions of the new arrivals. And he instead goes over to peer down into the ravine, seeing the rubble of what used to be a grand bridge. Shaking his head he goes back to the group, to the group of new arrivals, and introduces himself.
I am Frootloop he says as he attempts to give his best smile.
With that done, being he loathes introductions, he goes to his axe and swings it a little, then goes and sits on a rock while draining an aleskin and chomping on some rations, waiting for the others to do their thing.
(Frootloop is now on watch)

Bruagh takes the clip on the shoulder from Tahni and gives a little grin. "Eh, me too friend, me too."
Bruagh chuckles at FrootLoop's comment. "Yeah and from the smell of it I'd say you haven't had a bath, long, hot, or otherwise in several seasons! Hahaha!!! No friend, you saved my life in battle by having so many of our enemies trying to kill you... just as everyone else here helped save me from that little jump. No thanks needed friend.."
Looking to Devlin, Bruagh turns a little more serious. "Now I can't choose your path for you, and I won't try, but I won't condone taking their belongings as long as they are in our custody. Also, I fully intend to turn them over to Captain Redforge's Uncle at the Outpost that's nearby. As best as I can tell he is the one in charge of this bridge... or what's left of it... he'll be the one to deal with them. As far as my armor goes, I'll try and field repair it as best as I can until I can get my hands on some materials to craft a better set, or find a set to buy. I'll not wear stolen or confiscated goods. Had they died in battle and I would not be opposed to using it, as long as their bodies were respected and laid to rest. The armor would do them no good in whatever afterlife they have chosen for themselves."
Bruagh walks over to Douglass and lifts him up, still leaving him tied up, and brings him out of earshot of the other Duergar. "Now look lad, I've looked into your heart, you're not like the others you travel with. You haven't embraced the hate like they have. You can do something with your life, make something of yourself. You are an engineering student. Why let that and your life go to waste. I will give you one chance, against my better judgment, and I'm sure against the advice of my friends. Don't accept this just to take the easy way out, and don't turn this down, just because you feel you owe the others something. If you truly feel that you can make something of yourself, can be more than what other say you can be just because of your heritage. Then take me up on this offer. Redeem yourself, if for no one other than yourself."
After the conversation with the Douglas, Bruagh will (depends on how the conversation turns out.)
Once that is taken care of Bruagh sets out to repair his armor using his the same tools he used to forge it.
Upon completion Bruagh will sharpen his axe with his whetstone and then take middle watch so that others will get a chance at uninterrupted sleep tonight. This is of course assuming that we are making camp for the night since everyone is injured, fatigued, exhausted, etc.
Diplomacy: 26 to help Douglas see that he has one chance to turn his life around and make something of himself. Sense Motive: 14 if he accepts, to determine if he is being truthful, or just trying to say what needs to be said. Craft Armorsmith: 28 (Natural 20) to repair Bruagh's armor.
OOC: Just so everyone knows, Bruagh will not allow anyone to kill the prisoners. Kill them on the battle field, but while they are defenseless and tied up... not gonna happen. As for taking their things, Bruagh refuses to do it, but is pragmatic and understands that survival is difficult and that each of you must do what you feel you must in that regards. Sorry guys perks of traveling with a Paladin. =) Another unfortunate perk is that fact that Bruagh, even though he has a racial hatred for Duergar, will try to redeem one that he feels has a chance of being redeemed.

Boomy and Devlin tie up the prisoners as Braugh uses his awesome new lay on hands to bring Frootloop back up.
Then Tahni steps up and channels a lot of positive energy through herself. The energy washes over the group, and the Duergar captives (right?)
Doven the cleric says, "Man, channeling negative energy sucks."
Tahni also riffles through the Duergar valuables, she appraises a number of gems from the pockets of the Duergar to be worth approximately 600gp if they are sold to the right collector. In her searches, she goes to the cart that Frootloop pushed the Duergar bodies in. She pries open a chest to hear a loud SQUAK.
There is a raven staring back at you, tilting its head curiously.... in a cage. It is hurt... an arrow stuck through its wing muscle. makes sense as most of the bridge was littered with arrows and bolts from attacks on caravans.
All in all, the loot you find are from the Duergar you saved: Douglass, Doven, Lila, and Humphrey. Right? Bartholemew got his head split open by Frootloop... and Eddy got cut in two... correct?
Duergar Adamantine Breastplate x2 Duergar Adamantine Chain Shirt x2 Duergar Adamantine Heavy Shield x1 Duergar Adamantine Great Sword x1 Duergar Adamantine Guirisame (Boomy's) x1 Duergar Adamantine Dagger x4 MasterWork heavy Crossbow with 40 bolts Mundane Longswords x3 Alchemist fire x3 Cure Light Wounds Potion x2 Potion of Spider Climb x2 Potion of Invisibility x1 600gold in gems. knowledge something relative DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {Duergar dont use coins. They use gems.}
Frootloop awakens to be healed and begins cleaning himself with scraps of the Duergar clothes. They are equally bloody, most having been knocking to unconsciousness and back with slashes and the like. It seems it will be hard to clean himself before finding a river or perhaps the sandy bay that is the bottom of the scab. The Barbarian smiles his gorey smile at Kreyton and Devlin.
Braugh states that he will have none of the loot from the prisoners as it lawfully belongs to Captain Rupert Redforge of RiddlePort as evidence. He also feels that these four are prisoners to be returned to the proper custody. Paladins eh?
This doesn't mean that anyone can't grab whatcha want of the loot. Really its up to you guys to determine that stuff in character.
Then the interrogations begin:
Tahni tries to see which one would be more willing to talk.
Doven seems to have closed his eyes to the world and is humming a monotonous tone to himself... much like a buddhist monk would.
Douglass looks on the verge of tears yet again. He looks scared
Lila listen's to Devlin's bluff about throwing the Duergar off the cliff and responds , "I put a crossbow bolt in your head once and I'll do it again given the chance." (Sense motive was 22)
Humphrey laughs and smirks at Tahni with a sick look in his eyes.
Then Braugh grabs Douglass and hauls him off behind a tree for a stern talking to.
Doven notices this and speaks up, "Douglass. You always have a choice." is all he says before Braugh gets the younger Duergar out of ear shot.
After Braugh speaks to Douglass, the young Duergar responds. "Your not being very specific. What do you want from me?"
(OOC: Devlin... I can see Rapid fire working with a crossbow and Rapid Reload... but Multi-shot too? Strange. Howabout instead of a feat to compensate... we design an Item? I'm thinking along the lines of 20-bolt clips you just pop into a crossbow like a gun?)

Douglass responds in this critical cultural-boundry breaking movement...
"Do I really have to work with you surface guys? I'm just saying that i'm gonna be hunted by duergar assassins for being a traitor. If I have children, they will be hunted to extinction. Ya kinda get the rock and a hard place I'm in?"
Then he pauses and thinks for a moment. He says, very logically. It is clear that this kid is a scholar and not very interested in killing anyone.
"Tell ya what. The kind of total military-ruled extreme ends of a chaotic evil society we're dealing with is comparable to a complete military dictatorship. The best chance I have for survival is if you cut my arm off and leave me in a ditch to be picked up by a patrol. They might take pity on me for being small and allow me to live despite my failures. I would be the village idiot."
Then he thinks for a moment... "On the other hand. I'll just do whatever you say, please don't hurt me."

Tahni is surprised to see the injured bird in the chest. The poor thing will have a hard time flying with an arrow in it's wing. She deftly removes the arrow shaft, and cradles the poor bird to her chest, feeling an immediate bond. Though feeling comfortable herself, Tahni experiences feelings of fear. She quickly realises that this is the emotion of the raven. "There now." she says as she holds the bird close to her "You can travel safely with us as long as you need"OOC: New familiar - a raven named Daya
Tahni speaks to Bruagh outside of hearing range of the duergar captives. "Bruagh, I know your feelings on taking the items of others, but you will be not be able to protect us with tattered armor. Couldn't you think of it as them replacing the items they broke? I completely agree with you about not killing them outside of the battle field though. It seems we may be in a spot of bother. Transporting prisoners could prove extremely dangerous. They will likely do everything they can to hinder us. At the same time, we cannot simply rearm them and send them on their way. If they refuse to see the error of their ways, then we cannot in good conscience equip them to continue doing harm"
Still holding the raven close to her, Tahni turns back to address the group as a whole. She voices her opinion. "The way I see it, the shortest route to safety has been cut. We must now press forward into the Scab. I think we have three options for our prisoners here - a short walk with a long drop" she nods her head towards the chasm. "Cut them free and let them make their own way, or transport them as prisoners to Riddleport. We fought as a group, so now we must decide as such. I suggest putting it to a vote. Firstly, I see their goods here as spoils of battle that have been earned and won. I vote that whatever we can salvage becomes ours, until such time it is needed by a judge or jury to determine their guilt." She looks to Bruagh to gauge his opinion on this. "Secondly, I cannot allow prisoners to be executed without a fair trial. I vote that we escort them to Riddleport. If that sounds too risky, then I am also in favour of releasing them here and now. If the little one speaks the truth, then we may also be saving thier lives by pummeling them a bit first."

He lines up a shot on the female Duergar and smiles saying Aye lass that ya did, lets hope the damage you did does na make something slip before dry firing it in her face. To Bruagh he says Suit yourself lad, just realize that honeyed words don't always work. Sometimes, especially with scum like this the only thing they respond to is threats and shows of force. He looks around at the group and seeing that most of the serious wound are healed says. I don't know you all that well but it sounds like your headed to to the outpost nearby, we should move quickly before that blast brings others around.

"We make ourselves a target, and we can not trust them. The Scab holds enough dangers without adding ta it. If we're not ta kill em, I say we free them now, without weapons and armor."
"How does ya group divide treasure? I say we take what we will use, and the rest we sell an split, but if you have another way, speak up. Boomy makes sure he also has removed the clerics holy symbol, and that the clerics hands are bound and his mouth is gagged when not being questioned to prevent and spells from being cast.
I understand turning them over to the proper authorities, but thier weapons and armor are another story. They attacked us and commited a crime against us, so thier stuff is forefit to us. I understand if you want to give it over to the authorities, but this was not a bar fight and the authorities did not help us. Furthermore, since they attacked us they need to pay for our losses. They have damaged and destroyed our armor, and are therefore responsible for it's repair or replacement. Furthermore anything I disarmed and aquired in battle I am keeping. I'll share it with the group, but those were won in battle just as if I had killed the scom in battle. Lastly, this is the second group of adamantine weilding scum to attack us. Something big is going on, and we are going to need to protect ourselves if we hope to make it to the authorities.

"And again, it's true they destroyed our armor, and we can neither let them have it if we release them, nor can we just leave it here to be found by orcs, or duergar or Domi knows what to be used against us at a later time."
"I'm still voting to take them to Captain Redforge, but majority rules. I'll abide by the decision we make as a group. As far as their items, they are not mine. I'll use them only until I can find a better replacement, or no longer need them. I almost feel wrong for doing this, almost as if it questions my integrity, but as Tahni and Boomy said... we have to be able to defend ourselves."
Bruagh takes a moment to look over the equipment. "If no one objects I could use that shield since mine was cleaved in half. I'm going to try to fix my armor tonight but if it doesn't work, I could use one of those breastplates as well."

DM Addison Monday December 20th, 2010 9:26:57 PM Tahni collects her Raven familiar and states the group's options. Most of which mean keeping the Duergar alive, which is a check mark on Braugh's moral code.
Devlin and a few others say that Braugh would do well to wear the Duergar's armor. It is pristine, well made, masterwork, adamantium. Devlin even grabs himself a nice Chain shirt that Lila wore. Then he claims her Heavy Crossbow. Devlin inspects it to find that Lila had already put a notch for his own head. Ironic that he decides to point the weapon at the Crossbowess Duergar and threatens her.
Lila responds to Devlin's taunt, "Ya know, You are kinda cute when you... point that gun at me." She winks.
Gimme a DC 14 will save or get a crush on her. Gimme DC 14 fort save or vomit from an odd mix of disgust and screwed up nervousness that she just said that.
Oh Devlin you sultry rogue.
Kreyton suggests taking what resources are available and either kill the Duergar or set em free. Why be bothered with excess luggage right?
Boomy concurs and wisely states that something big is going on to see so many soldiers clad in the same factory-like adamantium.
Braugh concedes to the group's decision that staying protected wields greater results. He grabs the Adamantium Heavy Shield that Doven used for his Bastion of Defense move.
Braugh. Gimme a DC 14 will save real quick.
Frootloop says that throwing the Duergar off the cliff is a good solution. Or tying em to trees. Either way he grabs an Adamantium Breastplate and fits it squarely on his chest. It fits nicely, as Humphrey was about your same size and build.
Humphrey sees Frootloop take it and taunts, "Hey there boy. I see your picking up a real man's armor for the first time. Enjoy it while it lasts." He gives Frootloop a toothy smile.
In the end, Devlin gots the four prisoners tied up and in a line and puts Lila's crossbow at their backs.
So, I take it that Douglass is sticking with everyone else, or do you want him to stay with the blown up bridge?
Either way... The group travels for a day to the East along the sandy coasts of the lower Scab to get to RiddlePort.
On the way Braugh spends time repairing his armor. His awesome nat 20 craft armorsmithing check reveals that if Braugh wanted, he could possibly take the main chest piece and a few parts of Doven's Adamantium chest piece and repair his splintmail with some damage reduction if he wants.

Looking the female straight in the eye Devlin says. Not if the fate of the Dwarven race hinged on it, now get moving before I actually do throw you over the cliff. He readjusts his weight and gets the prisoners moving.
Along the way he begins to interrogate Douglass (his curiosity overcoming his hatred) about the bomb and if there was anything that could have been done to stop it. None of the equipment taken from the Duergar captives is useful to Tahni for the time being, so she lets the others have their pick of the loot. Having so much adamantine on hand does give her different crafting ideas.

If we can't get it out of them the guards will be able to, either through magic or the sword. I won't let them go if there is even the slightest chance that they have knowledge that could save one dwarven life.

The group travels with the four duergar prisoners across the white sands of the lower Scab beach, the entire time following the morning sun. The prisoners are not happy with being tied together, stripped of armaments, and walked across the beach like this.
When Humphrey insults Frootloop, the barbarian gives Humphrey a bloody nose that sends him reeling back. Humphrey doesn't speak for the rest of the journey, but he does keep a malicious eye on Frootloop.
The group makes camp every night for just as little time as possible to make tracks to town quickly. The beach is not comfortable as sand seems to find its way into every niche of your clothing.
The ocean does provide a plethora of food though. Fish are in abundance, so it would make sense if RiddlePort had lots of ships out... but you see none.
Braugh wakes up every morning to repair his armor. It takes some effort and time considering the extent of the damage. On the third day, he has a fancy piece of armor that has the stats of his original armor, but with 2/- damage reduction. The dark adamantium plates are held together with straps and links of the original.
When Braugh grabs the Heavy Shield from Doven, he is overwhelmed with an aura emanating from the shield. A quick look shows that the shield is emblazoned with a seal of Martaeus, the god of destruction and chaos. Braugh is sensitive to this, but he can spend some time reforging some of the plates, he can desecrate the shield enough so that it will no longer have a connection to the god. Tahni confirms that removing the seal could sever the connection and allow Braugh to use the shield without feeling nauseated.
Devlin speak with Douglass about the device. Douglass is happy to share his study with you. "Well. There are a number of things that could be done to deactivate such a bomb. You see, the core is a very powerful rune that is forged with arcane power. The wires connected to the core are a series of power supplies to keep the core energized until the proper time of explosion. If the energy level drops, then the bomb may be a 'dud.' Or it may blow up anyways. The way the bomb is triggered is actually by a smaller internal bomb that blows up the arcane core. Then the core splits in half from the damage and you get an explosion. So, you could have located the smaller internal detonator bomb and carefully removed that. The problem with that method is getting through the adamantium chasis of the core, which is usually done with machinery inside our factories. The only other way is to remove the wires connecting the power to the arcane rune core... which could expel a lot of energy in random directions... I wouldn't want to be the one to do it.. but its possible."
Douglass looks distant for a moment when he mentions the dangers of simply removing the power supply without deactivating the smaller detonation bomb.
Kreyton spends his time making sure the group is headed in the right direction. Fortunately, Kreyton is a bit more experienced withe lower area of the scab, and he seems to lead the group right... though its easy b/c you just gotta go along the coastline.
Then. As you walk, on the fourth day, you all notice something ahead of you.
A huge plume of dark smoke, miles in diameter, rests in front of you.
Something has happened in RiddlePort. It's still a few hour's march ahead of you.The earth speaks to Kreyton, but its not words... more of a feeling... pain...

So I figured I would get her in the conversation. =)
And yeah, everyone got healed to full over teh four days of travel!
Daya flies ahead as Devlin gathers his gear for a scouting adventure.
Braugh declares that the group should move forward, looking for survivors.
As such, the group goes.
As Kreyton suggests, the group heads more north into the jungle area just outside the beach as to not leave as many tracks.
Boomy begins gagging the captives so they will not shout out.
Humphrey responds to Frootloop's intmidation: "You know. I respect you for punching me Barbarian! In a world of words and suggestions you have action. Initiative! We will die here, you and I. Together! I foresee it! Keep my sword near me so that I may defend myself proper when the deathknell comes for me." Then he begins laughing maniacally as Boomy gags him to a muffled chuckle.
So the group moves out, Devlin scouting ahead with Daya overhead... heh, thats cool.
This would be a good time for Lee to shoow up with his ranger character... Lee? You listening? Whats your email?
The plains turn into subdivisions and rural areas of farms. Then that turns into the streets of a thriving harbor city. There must have been at least 7000 people inhabiting this large structure of streets and strung together buildings.
Unfortunately, Daya can make little out because the smoke and smog of the explosion kicked up dust and dirt into the sky. Its pretty nasty in there.
Devlin, likewise traveling on the ground only makes it to Alpha street before his visibility is less than 50feet. Travel is hard as the cobblestone streets of the market square are cluttered with debris.
Daya flies back to report scouting down into the city for a bit. She says that corpses line the streets. And there are cries for help. Also... random animals lurk around scavenging.

Looking at the devastation and destruction makes Frootloop.......ANGRY. But not in a whirling dervish sort of way. He has seen war, and the causes of war, but blatant disregard to the rules of war sickens him. These are innocents and to be treated this way, and left unattended....
Frootloop punches a wall.
Then, sobering up, Frootloop looks at Tahni saying: use my share and take whatever you have saved up for my healing fund and spread it out amongst these people. He drops his pack, the armor he's wearing, his weapon, everything save for the clothes on his back, into a pile and continues: use and/or sell those possessions, they bring grief only and these people have had too much of it. Get what you can to help these people.

Tahni nods at Frootloops request. For the moment, she is at a loss for words. She has never seen devastation on this scale before. She nestles in close to Frootloop and Bruagh to protect her - from what though?
"Daya reports many corpses ahead. Though there are cries for help. If anyone survived this, it won't be for long. We should make haste, but be careful."
DM Addison Thursday December 23rd, 2010 7:13:03 PM
Tahni - when everyone else first noticed the cloud of smoke, the Duergar were just as surprised as you were.
Actually, Douglass turns to Devlin when he is asked if a Duergar bomb coulda done this disaster, and says, "The largest bomb I have ever known to exist was the one we used to destroy the bridge. The explosion that caused this mayhem must have been 20times greater than that. No Duergar I know are capable of making an Arcane Rune so powerful. I suspect other forces at work here."
When he says this, Doven comes out of his trance and opens his eyes for the first time in a while to view the destruction. He breathes deeply and nods his head.
Humphrey is surprised but delighted at it.
