DM Addison Sunday December 12th, 2010 4:45:58 AM Kreyton believes that Douglas may hold some clue to deactivating... or at least figuring out... the device. When he searches, the little Duergar shouts, "Hey, what are you doing? How undecent!". He seems to shirk back when you touch him as if you may carry a deadly bacterium.
Nonetheless, Kreyton finds a large number of tools, blasting caps, screwdrivers, welding rods, chisels and the like on Douglass.
Devlin springs into action, proving his usefullness outside of combat.. which is good considering... just messing with ya.
Devlin jumps on the large metal device and peers into the hole that the poor dead Eddy was welding in. Devlin sees what he would interpret as a core of some sort of metal with many wires radiating out from it.
At the same time, Braugh pokes his head in and knows that the metal is a case that contains something inside. What is unknown.
Devlin's knowledge of traps allows him to assume that disconnecting the wires should power down the device... but he doesn't know if there could be any repercussions from doing that. Where would the energy drain into?
There are also a number of gears that are connected to the wires. Another option would be to try to stop the gears by sticking something between them.
Alas, decisions decisions. Of course there are other options besides fiddling with the device and any other creativity on disabling is appreciated.
And the bridge shakes on... violently
Tahni moves to stabilize the dying Dozen cleric, Humphrey, and Lila. They groan with each application of the spell's power.
Together teh appraisals of the weight put the bomb at about 800pounds. Enough sturdy dwarves could theoretically lift it
Religion does not apply here, except when Tahni looks at the bottom of the device, she notices some graffiti on the bottom that shows Marteaus giving Domi the finger.
When Tahni looks into the device and thinks about Arcane-powered things, she knows that strong magical devices can often be utilized for great destructive purposes.
Frootloop clearly votes that moving off the bridge is a good idea as the place is slowly shaking to bits.
Then Braugh speaks to Douglass, the wimpering duergar. He replies, "I would help you if I could. I don't want to die. But... it's too late as far as I know. Eddy was the expert, I'm just a first-semester Graduate student! I couldn't figure out how to make it work to begin with, which is why Eddy ran back. I don't know what to do! It might be able to be disabled, or it might kill us all!" he says the last part rather hysterically.
Douglass is not evil apparently. Just Nuetral and scared shitless.
Boomy says that smashing the device to bits is a good option. It is about 9feet in diameter and made of a strong metal. It is possible to smash it, but would take a large amount of strength. The insides of the device are clearly more delicate though.
Tahni -- AC14/11/13 -- CMD 11 -- HP 5/11 d20+4=24 ; Sunday December 12th, 2010 6:28:25 AM OOC - You mentioned there were lights blinking on the device. Is Tahni able to draw on her intelligence to recognise any sort of pattern that may indicate how much time is left before the device does whatever it does? INT check: 24 (Nat 20).
"Look, any action we take could trigger this thing. It's got a lot of arcane power here, and unless I'm mistaken, it's going to release it all in one big burst" Tahni calls out hurriedly "As far as I can tell, the only course of action guaranteed to save lives here is to get off the bridge NOW. Bridges can be rebuilt - people generally can't".
With that, she will continue to wheel the cart with the stable, hopefully unconscious, and bound Duergar still aboard to the presumed saftey of the other side of the bridge.

Woah guys. Epic group decisions just now. Ditch the bomb instead of trying to disable it? I see we don't have any gamblers in the room. Oh well, maybe for the next challenge the stakes willl be higher.
Though it does seem that the majority of the people are on the same page naturally. This is very important for group congruity. I'm liking it. :)
I'm one of those DMs that is like, "I don't care what you do, as long as you all agree on the course of action."
Tahni -- AC14/11/13 -- CMD 11 -- HP 5/11 Sunday December 12th, 2010 7:41:19 PM OOC: Bomb? Who said it was a bomb? :) And do we get any naming rights on the potential crater?
So guys, based on what I found in the SRD: "A character can lift as much as double his maximum load off the ground, but he or she can only stagger around with it.". We're assuming this thing weighs about 800lbs, although the appraisal roll wasn't that great, so it could be more. With Bruagh and Devlin's strength combined they can lift 690lbs, so we're still at least 110lbs worth of strength short.... As an interesting fact, Frootloop in a rage could pick it up and move it on his own - which would be an awesome sight for a dwarf :)

She decides that the bomb is too powerful to be successfully disarmed and grabs the kart of Duergar. She feels life is more important.
Frootloop grabs what he can and begins to move off the bridge with her, hauling the cart.
Kreyton tells Douglass to stay close by. He begins to cry as the device gets louder and the bridge continues to shake.
Then Braugh, Devlin, Boomy and Kreyton. together grab the device and heave HO!. You guys move the device slowly and it grinds on the ground against your pulls. The beeping is getting ever louder and more distinct.
It takes a bit of time, but enough pushing wears you down, everyone is now fatigued from the effort.
They get to the edge of the bridge, and with one last mighty heave, the Paladin, ROgue, Monk and Druid push the device over.
It falls for10 feet.
20 feet. 30 feet. 40 feet. 50. 60. 70.
It falls nearly 100 feet and splashes into the rocks below the river.
And then... it explodes
The world seems to tumble for a moment as each of you are knocked off your feet if you fail a DC 14 Acrobatics check.
The large explosion is green in color and sends shockwaves throughout the valley. The waters of the river splash hundreds of feet into the air.
Support pillars of the bridge begin to fall, rocks and mortar shattering about you.
Run.
The wagon of Duergar that Tahni and Frootloop are hauling becomes incredibly hard to steer, as planks of wood randomly splinter beneath the rusty wheels. It will take even more strength or enginuity to get the kart off in time.
You have about 30 yards to move the cart. Are their lives worth risking yours?

Frootloop heaves the cart, but the going is rough. Please do a DC 15 Strength check to move this thing. Climb would help too. And acrobatics. You don't gotta make em all, but your success is the cumulative results. And see comment for apologies.
Braugh and Boomy can plainly see that the bomb was dropped to the right of the center and it is likely that at least the middle 60 or so feet of the bridge will collapse. If the bomb had exploded on the bridge, the entire surface would have been unusable.
Boomy realizes that the three unconscious Duergar are in the cart being pushed by Frootloop, the only guy left is the cowering Douglass..
Braugh has a moment of indecision. Run back for his axe and risk life and limb? Or play it safe and flee with the others.

But, he powers through. Pushing the cart to the land that connects the bridge. Doing so, he takes 5subdual damage. Bringing him to... unconscious? But not dying by any means. HERO POINT FOR FROOTLOOP.. he saved 3 Duergar!
Kreyton and Devlin follow in hot persuit. Devlin jumps, slides and flips to the safe grounds and Kreyton just keeps a steady even pace.
And then Braugh. After receiving Tahni's restorative touch, he runs with all haste to the middle area of the bridge, where he dropped his Heriloom Axe of his forefather's in order to jam a Duergar hatchet into one of the Dark Kin's eye.
The ground is falling beneath him and the run is hard. Several times he loses his footing. 3 subdual damage from scraping your knees badly.
Then, the bridge's connection to the Scab mainland gives. Everything seems to drop about 5 feet except a huge man-sized boulder in front of Braugh. Not letting this deter him, he pulls out the Duergar adamantine axe and slices the boulder in two (strength check).
Just beyond it, he sees his axe, glistening in the sunlight of the day.

DM Addison Friday December 17th, 2010 10:37:56 AM
The group waits in suspended animation, not a person exhales... well, except for Frootloop... sorry about that buddy.
Devlin plants his axe in the side of the cliff and hangs down, extending a hand to Braugh.
Kreyton drops to the ground, and with his face and chest pressed against the earth, and his hand extended... something crazy happens.
The roots beneath everyone's feet begin to extend outward in the direction of Kreyton's hand, almost like an extension of himself... towards Braugh
Boomy, although exhausted, manages to tie together a wonderful lasso (escape artist check for using rope... and you use a touch attack roll to hit a moving target with the lasso).
He spins it about his head just once before tossing it at Braugh.
Then everything seems to happen at once: Braugh jumps. Kreyton extends, Boomy throws the lasso, Devlin reches, and Tahni shouts the timing as to when Braugh should jump.
Braugh is airborne for about 3 seconds. The first thing he touches are Kreyton's roots. Braugh grabs at them with ferocity, but the twigs are weak and break under trying to support his weight. But it keeps him steady just long enough for Boomy's Lasso to hit its target. It wraps around Braugh and tightens.
Boomy starts to pull, and it brings Braugh close enough for Devlin's hand to catch on. He hangs there, one hand on his axe, the clasping Braugh's hand.
Everyone pulls at the same time, and with one mighty exhausting pull, Braugh is back on the ground... with his Axe.
The group looks down at the crashing and tumbling structure that was the bridge. About half of it is destroyed, the half closer to you. A 100foot pit separates you from the edge of the usable bridge. If the bomb had been allowed to explode on the surface, then the entire face of the bridge would be gone, but now only about half (and its supporting columns) are destroyed.
A warm breeze, with ashes, meets you as you look out into the volcanic land. It seems that once you enter The Scab, you cannot leave The Scab.
Everyone gets 900exp for this adventure. WHich should be enough to put you at level 2.
And don't forget that Hero POints give you 30exp x level everytime you are granted one. So a few of you should be at about 1190exp if you earned 3 hero points.
(OOC: If you guys wanna question the Duergar, please be done with it by Monday. Wednesday should be our target day for introducing 3 new people. Are you guys ready? Jon Stout, Evie Clay, and James Rosse? And possibly a guy named Lee)

He than heads over to the cart and begins to tie up the prisoners. He looks at FrootLoop I canna do much for him but hes still breathing, looks like he just needs some rest and healing
OOC: Nevermind the roll was an escape artist check to tie the bindings but I looked it up and they need to pass a escape artist check dc= 20+ my CMB which is 1 so they need an escape artist check at dc 21 to break free. Perhaps someone with a better CMB wants to help me?

Everyone gets 1000exp for the bridge disaster battle. There, you are all level 2. A few of you have 1,200 exp, which is fine. Joining early has some benefits.
Lol. I just realized that Frootloop is gunna wake up from his dirt nap stronger than ever!
And please realize guys that Jerry wants us to go at about 1level every 3 months or 4 months. It's the pace that the Wold has set up and we must abide by it.

Bruagh looks to his injured comrade, whom he has only known a short time but has already experience much with and wishes he could help in some way. Feeling compelled by what could only be the Hand of Domi, Bruagh kneels next to his wounded friend and lays his hands on him.
Not knowing what he is doing or how he is doing it, Bruagh's hands glow white as Domi heals FrootLoop through Bruagh.
Bruagh stands, just as much surprised as himself as any of the others standing around.

Bruagh Stormbringer AC 12/10/12(Broken Scale Mail) -- CMD 15 -- HP 8/28 Friday December 17th, 2010 9:11:24 PM
New Character Sheet. I have redone my ability scores and let's just say, it got ugly. I lost a good bit of AC, CMD, Ranged Attack, Initiative, Will Saves, and a few skill points. My once fantastic AC is now... well, let's just not talk about AC. At least I have a few HP's now. Sigh. Anyway. Not sure if we heal because we leveled or not.
Tahni gives Bruagh a friendly smile and clip on the shoulder "Glad you're still with us". She's conscious of the fact that they are still amongst enemies, so is wary about using her healing skills until she has checked on the Duergar. She notes with interest as Bruagh tends to Frootloop. The healing looks almost divine. Perhaps the group is destined to travel together after all?
Ensuring the captives have been stripped of all weapons, armor and belongings, and that they are still firmly bound, she once again prays to Alemi. Firstly thanking him for ensuring the safety of her friends, and secondly, asking for his divine healing to wash over the group. Use all 4 remaining healing charges to heal everyone in the vicinity for 15pts
As Tahni releases her healing powers, wave after wave, she feels ... different. It is hard to articulate, but some of the power that should be flowing from her seems to dwell within her for longer than it should. "Odd" she thinks to herself, and pays it no mind, before she becomes so light headed that she slumps to her knees on the ground. The dwarven cleric steadies herself before standing again. The unseen powers of the Wold seem to make more sense somehow, and Tahni revels in the knowledge she seems to have gained. Took a level as a Wizard
Bringing herself back to the moment, Tahni examines the equipment that the Duergar possessed (Appraise: 18, 20 for Metals/Gems) before standing over the prisoners. Tact will be necessary, as it seems clear they were prepared to die for their cause, and a prisoner with nothing to lose has no motivation to talk.
She looks over the captives for anything of note, and to determine who may be the most willing to listen to "reason" (Perception: 21) "Give me one good reason why we shouldn't just leave you here?" (Diplomacy: 6 - ouch)

With a groan, and a couple of coughs, Frootloop rolls out from under the rock on his back. Looking up he sees Bruagh kneeling over him and he replies: do not think this means we will take long hot baths together.
Frootloop slows gets up. Wipes the dust and dirt from his tunic and pants, then touches his wounds, grimacing in the fact they still hurt. Grabbing a tunic from one of the druegar, he rips off some, then proceeds to wipe the blood and gore from his hands, arms, face and neck. Then rips off another strip to clean off his axe and armor. Should the Druegar disapprove, he thumps him on his forehead saying: shutup scum lest the next thing I rip is your lungs from your chest.
Then he feels the wave of energy surge through him, seeing the look from Tahni, knowing from her this came from.
Thank you sister of the light, thank you for bringing strength back to these old bones. And then turning to Bruagh, as well as you, too, brother of the light.
Then Frootloop sees all is in hand, the interrogation of prisoners begins, and the introductions of the new arrivals. And he instead goes over to peer down into the ravine, seeing the rubble of what used to be a grand bridge. Shaking his head he goes back to the group, to the group of new arrivals, and introduces himself.
I am Frootloop he says as he attempts to give his best smile.
With that done, being he loathes introductions, he goes to his axe and swings it a little, then goes and sits on a rock while draining an aleskin and chomping on some rations, waiting for the others to do their thing.
(Frootloop is now on watch)

Bruagh takes the clip on the shoulder from Tahni and gives a little grin. "Eh, me too friend, me too."
Bruagh chuckles at FrootLoop's comment. "Yeah and from the smell of it I'd say you haven't had a bath, long, hot, or otherwise in several seasons! Hahaha!!! No friend, you saved my life in battle by having so many of our enemies trying to kill you... just as everyone else here helped save me from that little jump. No thanks needed friend.."
Looking to Devlin, Bruagh turns a little more serious. "Now I can't choose your path for you, and I won't try, but I won't condone taking their belongings as long as they are in our custody. Also, I fully intend to turn them over to Captain Redforge's Uncle at the Outpost that's nearby. As best as I can tell he is the one in charge of this bridge... or what's left of it... he'll be the one to deal with them. As far as my armor goes, I'll try and field repair it as best as I can until I can get my hands on some materials to craft a better set, or find a set to buy. I'll not wear stolen or confiscated goods. Had they died in battle and I would not be opposed to using it, as long as their bodies were respected and laid to rest. The armor would do them no good in whatever afterlife they have chosen for themselves."
Bruagh walks over to Douglass and lifts him up, still leaving him tied up, and brings him out of earshot of the other Duergar. "Now look lad, I've looked into your heart, you're not like the others you travel with. You haven't embraced the hate like they have. You can do something with your life, make something of yourself. You are an engineering student. Why let that and your life go to waste. I will give you one chance, against my better judgment, and I'm sure against the advice of my friends. Don't accept this just to take the easy way out, and don't turn this down, just because you feel you owe the others something. If you truly feel that you can make something of yourself, can be more than what other say you can be just because of your heritage. Then take me up on this offer. Redeem yourself, if for no one other than yourself."
After the conversation with the Douglas, Bruagh will (depends on how the conversation turns out.)
Once that is taken care of Bruagh sets out to repair his armor using his the same tools he used to forge it.
Upon completion Bruagh will sharpen his axe with his whetstone and then take middle watch so that others will get a chance at uninterrupted sleep tonight. This is of course assuming that we are making camp for the night since everyone is injured, fatigued, exhausted, etc.
Diplomacy: 26 to help Douglas see that he has one chance to turn his life around and make something of himself. Sense Motive: 14 if he accepts, to determine if he is being truthful, or just trying to say what needs to be said. Craft Armorsmith: 28 (Natural 20) to repair Bruagh's armor.
OOC: Just so everyone knows, Bruagh will not allow anyone to kill the prisoners. Kill them on the battle field, but while they are defenseless and tied up... not gonna happen. As for taking their things, Bruagh refuses to do it, but is pragmatic and understands that survival is difficult and that each of you must do what you feel you must in that regards. Sorry guys perks of traveling with a Paladin. =) Another unfortunate perk is that fact that Bruagh, even though he has a racial hatred for Duergar, will try to redeem one that he feels has a chance of being redeemed.

Boomy and Devlin tie up the prisoners as Braugh uses his awesome new lay on hands to bring Frootloop back up.
Then Tahni steps up and channels a lot of positive energy through herself. The energy washes over the group, and the Duergar captives (right?)
Doven the cleric says, "Man, channeling negative energy sucks."
Tahni also riffles through the Duergar valuables, she appraises a number of gems from the pockets of the Duergar to be worth approximately 600gp if they are sold to the right collector. In her searches, she goes to the cart that Frootloop pushed the Duergar bodies in. She pries open a chest to hear a loud SQUAK.
There is a raven staring back at you, tilting its head curiously.... in a cage. It is hurt... an arrow stuck through its wing muscle. makes sense as most of the bridge was littered with arrows and bolts from attacks on caravans.
All in all, the loot you find are from the Duergar you saved: Douglass, Doven, Lila, and Humphrey. Right? Bartholemew got his head split open by Frootloop... and Eddy got cut in two... correct?
Duergar Adamantine Breastplate x2 Duergar Adamantine Chain Shirt x2 Duergar Adamantine Heavy Shield x1 Duergar Adamantine Great Sword x1 Duergar Adamantine Guirisame (Boomy's) x1 Duergar Adamantine Dagger x4 MasterWork heavy Crossbow with 40 bolts Mundane Longswords x3 Alchemist fire x3 Cure Light Wounds Potion x2 Potion of Spider Climb x2 Potion of Invisibility x1 600gold in gems. knowledge something relative DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {Duergar dont use coins. They use gems.}
Frootloop awakens to be healed and begins cleaning himself with scraps of the Duergar clothes. They are equally bloody, most having been knocking to unconsciousness and back with slashes and the like. It seems it will be hard to clean himself before finding a river or perhaps the sandy bay that is the bottom of the scab. The Barbarian smiles his gorey smile at Kreyton and Devlin.
Braugh states that he will have none of the loot from the prisoners as it lawfully belongs to Captain Rupert Redforge of RiddlePort as evidence. He also feels that these four are prisoners to be returned to the proper custody. Paladins eh?
This doesn't mean that anyone can't grab whatcha want of the loot. Really its up to you guys to determine that stuff in character.
Then the interrogations begin:
Tahni tries to see which one would be more willing to talk.
Doven seems to have closed his eyes to the world and is humming a monotonous tone to himself... much like a buddhist monk would.
Douglass looks on the verge of tears yet again. He looks scared
Lila listen's to Devlin's bluff about throwing the Duergar off the cliff and responds , "I put a crossbow bolt in your head once and I'll do it again given the chance." (Sense motive was 22)
Humphrey laughs and smirks at Tahni with a sick look in his eyes.
Then Braugh grabs Douglass and hauls him off behind a tree for a stern talking to.
Doven notices this and speaks up, "Douglass. You always have a choice." is all he says before Braugh gets the younger Duergar out of ear shot.
After Braugh speaks to Douglass, the young Duergar responds. "Your not being very specific. What do you want from me?"
(OOC: Devlin... I can see Rapid fire working with a crossbow and Rapid Reload... but Multi-shot too? Strange. Howabout instead of a feat to compensate... we design an Item? I'm thinking along the lines of 20-bolt clips you just pop into a crossbow like a gun?)

Appraise: 11 Fail.
DM Addison Sunday December 19th, 2010 10:44:31 PM
Douglass responds in this critical cultural-boundry breaking movement...
"Do I really have to work with you surface guys? I'm just saying that i'm gonna be hunted by duergar assassins for being a traitor. If I have children, they will be hunted to extinction. Ya kinda get the rock and a hard place I'm in?"
Then he pauses and thinks for a moment. He says, very logically. It is clear that this kid is a scholar and not very interested in killing anyone.
"Tell ya what. The kind of total military-ruled extreme ends of a chaotic evil society we're dealing with is comparable to a complete military dictatorship. The best chance I have for survival is if you cut my arm off and leave me in a ditch to be picked up by a patrol. They might take pity on me for being small and allow me to live despite my failures. I would be the village idiot."
Then he thinks for a moment... "On the other hand. I'll just do whatever you say, please don't hurt me."

Tahni is surprised to see the injured bird in the chest. The poor thing will have a hard time flying with an arrow in it's wing. She deftly removes the arrow shaft, and cradles the poor bird to her chest, feeling an immediate bond. Though feeling comfortable herself, Tahni experiences feelings of fear. She quickly realises that this is the emotion of the raven. "There now." she says as she holds the bird close to her "You can travel safely with us as long as you need"OOC: New familiar - a raven named Daya
Tahni speaks to Bruagh outside of hearing range of the duergar captives. "Bruagh, I know your feelings on taking the items of others, but you will be not be able to protect us with tattered armor. Couldn't you think of it as them replacing the items they broke? I completely agree with you about not killing them outside of the battle field though. It seems we may be in a spot of bother. Transporting prisoners could prove extremely dangerous. They will likely do everything they can to hinder us. At the same time, we cannot simply rearm them and send them on their way. If they refuse to see the error of their ways, then we cannot in good conscience equip them to continue doing harm"
Still holding the raven close to her, Tahni turns back to address the group as a whole. She voices her opinion. "The way I see it, the shortest route to safety has been cut. We must now press forward into the Scab. I think we have three options for our prisoners here - a short walk with a long drop" she nods her head towards the chasm. "Cut them free and let them make their own way, or transport them as prisoners to Riddleport. We fought as a group, so now we must decide as such. I suggest putting it to a vote. Firstly, I see their goods here as spoils of battle that have been earned and won. I vote that whatever we can salvage becomes ours, until such time it is needed by a judge or jury to determine their guilt." She looks to Bruagh to gauge his opinion on this. "Secondly, I cannot allow prisoners to be executed without a fair trial. I vote that we escort them to Riddleport. If that sounds too risky, then I am also in favour of releasing them here and now. If the little one speaks the truth, then we may also be saving thier lives by pummeling them a bit first."
Devlin -- 16/14/12 -- CMD 15 -- HP 20/20 Monday December 20th, 2010 12:24:17 AM
Devlin once again rolls his eyes at Bruagh before looking over the accumulated equipment. He slings a chain shirt over his shoulder and picks up the heavy crossbow and cocks it. He lines up a shot on the female Duergar and smiles saying Aye lass that ya did, lets hope the damage you did does na make something slip before dry firing it in her face. To Bruagh he says Suit yourself lad, just realize that honeyed words don't always work. Sometimes, especially with scum like this the only thing they respond to is threats and shows of force. He looks around at the group and seeing that most of the serious wound are healed says. I don't know you all that well but it sounds like your headed to to the outpost nearby, we should move quickly before that blast brings others around.
OOC: Taking an adamantine chain shirt and the crossbow unless someone has a better need for any of it.

Kreyton frowns at the paladin's words, but says nothing. He's new to the group, and really not that concerned if the dark dwarves get their due. The damage is done, and the Scab will hold too many dangers to have a conflict now.
"We make ourselves a target, and we can not trust them. The Scab holds enough dangers without adding ta it. If we're not ta kill em, I say we free them now, without weapons and armor."
"How does ya group divide treasure? I say we take what we will use, and the rest we sell an split, but if you have another way, speak up. If Braugh does not want his share, donate it ta a cause Braugh values. I won't be using tha metal armors, but I could put them dagger ta work. Maybe one o them potions too. Boomy makes sure he also has removed the clerics holy symbol, and that the clerics hands are bound and his mouth is gagged when not being questioned to prevent and spells from being cast.
I understand turning them over to the proper authorities, but thier weapons and armor are another story. They attacked us and commited a crime against us, so thier stuff is forefit to us. I understand if you want to give it over to the authorities, but this was not a bar fight and the authorities did not help us. Furthermore, since they attacked us they need to pay for our losses. They have damaged and destroyed our armor, and are therefore responsible for it's repair or replacement. Furthermore anything I disarmed and aquired in battle I am keeping. I'll share it with the group, but those were won in battle just as if I had killed the scom in battle. Lastly, this is the second group of adamantine weilding scum to attack us. Something big is going on, and we are going to need to protect ourselves if we hope to make it to the authorities.
Bruagh Stormbringer AC 12/10/12(Broken Scale Mail) -- CMD 15 -- HP 23/28 Monday December 20th, 2010 12:17:14 PM "The lot of you speak the truth. On one hand I want to see Justice triumph, yet I also want to do the honorable thing. Killing unarmed prisoners doesn't seem very honorable, but freeing them to allow them to commit heinous acts isn't my idea of justice either."
"And again, it's true they destroyed our armor, and we can neither let them have it if we release them, nor can we just leave it here to be found by orcs, or duergar or Domi knows what to be used against us at a later time."
"I'm still voting to take them to Captain Redforge, but majority rules. I'll abide by the decision we make as a group. As far as their items, they are not mine. I'll use them only until I can find a better replacement, or no longer need them. I almost feel wrong for doing this, almost as if it questions my integrity, but as Tahni and Boomy said... we have to be able to defend ourselves."
Bruagh takes a moment to look over the equipment. "If no one objects I could use that shield since mine was cleaved in half. I'm going to try to fix my armor tonight but if it doesn't work, I could use one of those breastplates as well."
OOC: Bruagh is not happy, but since the rest of his companions all say he needs to take the armor, he will listen to reason. But he is still not happy about it. =)

Devlin and a few others say that Braugh would do well to wear the Duergar's armor. It is pristine, well made, masterwork, adamantium. Devlin even grabs himself a nice Chain shirt that Lila wore. Then he claims her Heavy Crossbow. Devlin inspects it to find that Lila had already put a notch for his own head. Ironic that he decides to point the weapon at the Crossbowess Duergar and threatens her.

Boomy concurs and wisely states that something big is going on to see so many soldiers clad in the same factory-like adamantium.
Braugh concedes to the group's decision that staying protected wields greater results. He grabs the Adamantium Heavy Shield that Doven used for his Bastion of Defense move.
Braugh. Gimme a DC 14 will save real quick.
Frootloop says that throwing the Duergar off the cliff is a good solution. Or tying em to trees. Either way he grabs an Adamantium Breastplate and fits it squarely on his chest. It fits nicely, as Humphrey was about your same size and build.
Humphrey sees Frootloop take it and taunts, "Hey there boy. I see your picking up a real man's armor for the first time. Enjoy it while it lasts." He gives Frootloop a toothy smile.
In the end, Devlin gots the four prisoners tied up and in a line and puts Lila's crossbow at their backs.
So, I take it that Douglass is sticking with everyone else, or do you want him to stay with the blown up bridge?
Either way... The group travels for a day to the East along the sandy coasts of the lower Scab to get to RiddlePort.
On the way Braugh spends time repairing his armor. His awesome nat 20 craft armorsmithing check reveals that if Braugh wanted, he could possibly take the main chest piece and a few parts of Doven's Adamantium chest piece and repair his splintmail with some damage reduction if he wants.

Looking the female straight in the eye Devlin says. Not if the fate of the Dwarven race hinged on it, now get moving before I actually do throw you over the cliff. He readjusts his weight and gets the prisoners moving.
Along the way he begins to interrogate Douglass (his curiosity overcoming his hatred) about the bomb and if there was anything that could have been done to stop it. What it was made from, what was the explosive, the trigger mechanism etc.. He never takes his eyes from the prisoners but keeps the conversation up all the same.

The group travels with the four duergar prisoners across the white sands of the lower Scab beach, the entire time following the morning sun. The prisoners are not happy with being tied together, stripped of armaments, and walked across the beach like this.
When Humphrey insults Frootloop, the barbarian gives Humphrey a bloody nose that sends him reeling back. Humphrey doesn't speak for the rest of the journey, but he does keep a malicious eye on Frootloop.
The group makes camp every night for just as little time as possible to make tracks to town quickly. The beach is not comfortable as sand seems to find its way into every niche of your clothing.
The ocean does provide a plethora of food though. Fish are in abundance, so it would make sense if RiddlePort had lots of ships out... but you see none.
Braugh wakes up every morning to repair his armor. It takes some effort and time considering the extent of the damage. On the third day, he has a fancy piece of armor that has the stats of his original armor, but with 2/- damage reduction. The dark adamantium plates are held together with straps and links of the original.
When Braugh grabs the Heavy Shield from Doven, he is overwhelmed with an aura emanating from the shield. A quick look shows that the shield is emblazoned with a seal of Martaeus, the god of destruction and chaos. Braugh is sensitive to this, but he can spend some time reforging some of the plates, he can desecrate the shield enough so that it will no longer have a connection to the god. Tahni confirms that removing the seal could sever the connection and allow Braugh to use the shield without feeling nauseated.
Devlin speak with Douglass about the device. Douglass is happy to share his study with you. "Well. There are a number of things that could be done to deactivate such a bomb. You see, the core is a very powerful rune that is forged with arcane power. The wires connected to the core are a series of power supplies to keep the core energized until the proper time of explosion. If the energy level drops, then the bomb may be a 'dud.' Or it may blow up anyways. The way the bomb is triggered is actually by a smaller internal bomb that blows up the arcane core. Then the core splits in half from the damage and you get an explosion. So, you could have located the smaller internal detonator bomb and carefully removed that. The problem with that method is getting through the adamantium chasis of the core, which is usually done with machinery inside our factories. The only other way is to remove the wires connecting the power to the arcane rune core... which could expel a lot of energy in random directions... I wouldn't want to be the one to do it.. but its possible."
Douglass looks distant for a moment when he mentions the dangers of simply removing the power supply without deactivating the smaller detonation bomb.
Kreyton spends his time making sure the group is headed in the right direction. Fortunately, Kreyton is a bit more experienced withe lower area of the scab, and he seems to lead the group right... though its easy b/c you just gotta go along the coastline.
Then. As you walk, on the fourth day, you all notice something ahead of you.
A huge plume of dark smoke, miles in diameter, rests in front of you.
Something has happened in RiddlePort. It's still a few hour's march ahead of you.The earth speaks to Kreyton, but its not words... more of a feeling... pain...

So I figured I would get her in the conversation. =)
And yeah, everyone got healed to full over teh four days of travel!
Daya flies ahead as Devlin gathers his gear for a scouting adventure.
Braugh declares that the group should move forward, looking for survivors.
As such, the group goes.
As Kreyton suggests, the group heads more north into the jungle area just outside the beach as to not leave as many tracks.
Boomy begins gagging the captives so they will not shout out.
Humphrey responds to Frootloop's intmidation: "You know. I respect you for punching me Barbarian! In a world of words and suggestions you have action. Initiative! We will die here, you and I. Together! I foresee it! Keep my sword near me so that I may defend myself proper when the deathknell comes for me." Then he begins laughing maniacally as Boomy gags him to a muffled chuckle.
So the group moves out, Devlin scouting ahead with Daya overhead... heh, thats cool.
This would be a good time for Lee to shoow up with his ranger character... Lee? You listening? Whats your email?
The plains turn into subdivisions and rural areas of farms. Then that turns into the streets of a thriving harbor city. There must have been at least 7000 people inhabiting this large structure of streets and strung together buildings.
Unfortunately, Daya can make little out because the smoke and smog of the explosion kicked up dust and dirt into the sky. Its pretty nasty in there.
Devlin, likewise traveling on the ground only makes it to Alpha street before his visibility is less than 50feet. Travel is hard as the cobblestone streets of the market square are cluttered with debris.
Daya flies back to report scouting down into the city for a bit. She says that corpses line the streets. And there are cries for help. Also... random animals lurk around scavenging.

Looking at the devastation and destruction makes Frootloop.......ANGRY. But not in a whirling dervish sort of way. He has seen war, and the causes of war, but blatant disregard to the rules of war sickens him. These are innocents and to be treated this way, and left unattended....
Frootloop punches a wall.
Then, sobering up, Frootloop looks at Tahni saying: use my share and take whatever you have saved up for my healing fund and spread it out amongst these people. He drops his pack, the armor he's wearing, his weapon, everything save for the clothes on his back, into a pile and continues: use and/or sell those possessions, they bring grief only and these people have had too much of it. Get what you can to help these people.

Tahni nods at Frootloops request. For the moment, she is at a loss for words. She has never seen devastation on this scale before. She nestles in close to Frootloop and Bruagh to protect her - from what though?
"Daya reports many corpses ahead. Though there are cries for help. If anyone survived this, it won't be for long. We should make haste, but be careful."
DM Addison Thursday December 23rd, 2010 7:13:03 PM
Tahni - when everyone else first noticed the cloud of smoke, the Duergar were just as surprised as you were.
Actually, Douglass turns to Devlin when he is asked if a Duergar bomb coulda done this disaster, and says, "The largest bomb I have ever known to exist was the one we used to destroy the bridge. The explosion that caused this mayhem must have been 20times greater than that. No Duergar I know are capable of making an Arcane Rune so powerful. I suspect other forces at work here."
When he says this, Doven comes out of his trance and opens his eyes for the first time in a while to view the destruction. He breathes deeply and nods his head.
Humphrey is surprised but delighted at it.
