Acid city Inn (Dm Glenn) Sunday January 9th, 2011 1:21:53 PM
After reaching the outside platform the group discusses where to port, selecting the inn. Aztyr teleports with Mal and Val. Valanthe endures the unpleasant feeling of being teleported, as Malgant catches her. Valanthe insist she'll be better after a hot meal and a cold drink. Malgant agrees adding a bath to the list.
Vauhwyt follows Aztyr with Appolo and Vorelle.
As the two groups arrive at Sally's Inn in Acid City, they notice the place is pretty much unchanged from when they left or last visited weeks or days ago. The shift from hyper alert battle ready environment to a civilized city is jarring at the least to the adventures.
Entering the Inn, Sally greats you by name, and happily arranges for rooms, baths, food and drink to be prepared. As for news, Sally lets you know about recent events within the acid city, but they don't seem to amount to much, the flow of hartseed refugees fearing the tax deadline is still the major news. The acid city being far from the capital has more renegades and less hartseed priest than the rest of the kingdom so the temple might find it harder to enforce the hartseeding of not tax paying people here.
Malgant catches up with Rufus and gets the details on how the refugees save passage is going, The protector is glade to learn that it's doing well despite a few issues that Rufus and Sally were able to over come. They managed to help several hundred people get out of the kingdom safely
Appolo informed the group of his plan to take a walkabout in Platue city. Saying his goodbyes for the next morning. Vauhwyt, Valanthe and Malgant wishing him luck in his travels and hope to see him again.
The next day the group is Rested, clean and refreshed, you keep looking around the peaceful city half expecting some foe to up an attack you, but none do for now.
(ooc: Question "Do we have our new gear yet?" Yes, but you'll have few more days to RP any character changes, and some time in game to craft stuff if you want. The Lord of Mount Bones isn't going to rush at taking his revenge.)

OOC: well I think we should look into how far the wizards experiments are going? Those monstrosities were tough. If there is more of that experimentation going on we may have to try and stop it. Also was the druid working for the wizard before or after Vauhwyt contacted him? The dark elves, is it a mercenary band or were they part of a house? If these experiments were assisted by an underdark house of dark elves that could be an even bigger problem.
Vorelle Sunday January 9th, 2011 6:25:04 PM
Champ greets Vorelle as enthusiastically, as ever, but Vorelle knows he's not really her dog anymore.
"I think you need to stay here and be the inn's dog now," she tells him. "I don't want to keep putting you in danger."
Vorelle is still trying to get used to her new strength. She knows that part of it is due to the belt they found in the wizard's lab, but some of it seems to have just sprung up overnight.
She takes a few practice passes with her handaxes, and manages to sink each one deep into a block of wood in the inn-yard.
"As Vauwhyt would say, 'Wowsy!'" she murmurs.

As everyone gets up in the morning, Aztyr has them all gather around one of the tables. "I'd like to try a new spell I aquired when I dropped Polymorph. So that means no more flying Rhinos in our near future. With the Message spell you actually have to verbalise what you want to say to anyone.". With that Aztyr points her hands straight out, with only the index finger extended and the thumb pointed upwards. She twists her hands in front of her with her fingers touching and thumbs touching as well, but with the thumbs pointing to the ground. Her hands snap away from her, the rest of her fingers extending. As she does that a energy wave sort of washes over everyone at the table. (Cast telepathic Bond 150 minutes) I hope that worked as I expected it to. Can everyone hear me inside their heads? And Mookie, if you mouth off too much, or Appolo comes back, you won't be included in the future. The spell should last about two and a half hours. (150 minutes) "Oh, Malgant, here, I really don't have a use for this anymore. The spell it duplicates is so minor for me now, it uses up almost none of my arcane energy." Aztyr hands him a Wand of Detect Magic (50 charges). "I know I won it at the tourney, but I still have my statue and I'm not giving that way."
After they break up from having breakfast Aztyr wanders around back, seeing Vorelle pratcing with her axes, Aztyr pulls out an oversized two handed scimitar (large size Elven Curve Blade). She seems to know which edge is sharp and how not to hurt herself with it.

Malgant treats Valanthe to a massage before bedtime, to help work the tension out of her muscles from the fight that afternoon. He tries not to worry how close they both came to dying at the hands of those monstrosities. Each of them was one solid blow from death before Imod's healing magic brought them back to full health. He forgets all of this as he falls asleep beside her.
In the morning the Minotaur is awake with the sunrise and practicing his weapon forms and praying in the back yard of the Inn. He casts Mind Blank on himself before entering the Inn for breakfast. At breakfast he marvels at Aztyr's new command of her craft and how it will make planning and adventuring easier. Malgant pulls out his metamagic rod and casts Status on the group so that he knows if anyone is in trouble. He then tells them that he will be going back up to their room to first question the drow, and then contact Bardamion to catch up on events. Knowing that Vauhwyt will almost certainly want to attend the questioning he makes sure to let her know about it.

She rewraps the sword in a calf skin and stows it in her bag of holding. She heads back around to the front of the Inn and settles herself, getting comfortable. Any questions she might add to Malgant's list have probably already been thought of. She'll use Dancing Lights to ammuse any children if they are around by making them take on a faint humaniod form and then start to dance.

Valanthe is a little quiet, and a little hung over. She sits at a table, without her suit of mithril armor. Even though its incredibly light for a full suit, sometimes it's good to just relax. Valanthe leans back in a chair, balancing it on its two rear legs with her feet on the table. Gargul's Wrath, a massive adamatite warhammer etched with holy symbols, rests in her lap. Occasionally she lifts the warhammer, examining the surface, and running her fingers across it. She was glad for the downtime. Though knowing Bardamion there was some danger they were going to have to look into. The wold never stopped even when you were looking for a day off.
Acid city Inn (Dm Glenn) Tuesday January 11th, 2011 11:15:22 AM
After a night's rest, the adventures feel stronger, faster and more powerful, but still they wonder if it will be enough to overcome the greater challenges that surly wait them.
Vorelle spends time with Champ, but realizes he would be safer staying at the inn full time.
Aztyr shows off her new spell enabling the group to communicate with each other without speaking, and a new weapon she found.
After a round of morning weapon practice, Malgant cast his protective and status spells upon himself and others. Putting off the unpleasant business long enough the Holy protector seeks privacy for questing the dead bodies he brought back with him. (ooc: Gist of what you want will be fine).
Playing with the new elven blade, Aztyr feels her traing, but hopes she doesn't have to fall back on it. As the day progresses she amuses the inn's young patrons with magic balls of light.
Trying to relax in the inn, Valanthe never the less keeps her warhammer close at hand.

Malgant heads to the Marketplace, armed and armored as is his normal way. He stops in a few stalls and buys some supplies, remembering how devastated the market was when first they came here. Now it looks better. But how much better still would it be without the threat of Heartseeds hanging over the place. He finally gathers all of the incense and candles he needs for his prayers and heads back to the Inn to prepare the bodies.
The wizard, Dul and one of the guards. What did they know in life, what would they tell him in death? He prepares by casting tongues on himself so that no matter what language they try to be evasive in he can know it and follow it. Then he deepens his wisdom with Owl's wisdom. A trick Vauhwyt taught him to make his spells harder to resist. Then he questions them about the monstrosities. Why were they built? How were they built? Are more being built? Where are there more? Who else is making them? Does the wizard's keeper reside in Mount Bone? What will he do in response?
He follows any of those threads that show promise with follow up questions. He gets 15 minutes to qustion each subject before his spell ends DC 19 to resist his castings. Wizard first, Dul second and then the drow warrior.
When all of that is complete Malgant will contact Bardamion and speak at a distance with him via Sending. " Have seen to a problem on Mount Bone. Do you have work for us? Refugees escaping very smartly. Thank you for that. Malgant, Please reply." He may respond with 25 words or less immediately. ( no SR and no save anymore since he knows me)

After finding somebody for assistance, Valanthe heads up and slips into her armor. The mithril plates are light and quite form fitting. Really it doesn't even feel like she's wearing a full suit of mithril plate. Valanthe takes a moment to use a dagger and trim her red gold hair. She thinks long looks better but its not really a good style. Long hair makes helm's fit poorly and could be grabbed in combat. Satisfied that her hair is short and still looks sexy, Valanthe heads back down. Shield on her back, warhammer and helm hanging from her belt, Valanthe feels more normal. Knowing that Malgant would be working hard on questioning the dead she begins preparing a meal for him. Figuring he would be hungry and tired when he returned.

Putting off the questioning of the corps for a little while longer, Malgant does a little shopping about the marketplace, looking about the place can see changes for the better and worse such as more hartseeded people even here in acid city maybe two out of every ten.
Returning to the inn Mal proceed to question the dead with or without Vauhwyt. The Wizard refuses to answer, but Dur and the drow warrior do.
Why were the monstrosity built? To serve as Mount Bones' troops. How were they built? Transformation magic. Are more being built? Yes Where are there more? Unknown Who else is making them? Others who severe Mount Bones. Does the wizard's keeper reside in Mount Bone? The Lord of Mount Bones rules from Mount Bones. What will he do in response? He will use you, as he has countless others.
You get the impression that the Drow warrior's information is limited to guarding the wizard. Dul knows a bit more of the over all picture. ( Mal can follow up with more questions.)
Valanthe goes about adjusting the fit of her Mithril plate armor and fixing a meal for Malgant waiting for him to finish his work.
Working with new or altered Axe and Bow, Vorelle spends a good bit of time at practice.

Aztyr, awaits for Malgant to come down stairs and report on the questioning of the dead, Aztyr understands some of the magics he uses, but her understanding gets all confused when she tries to understand that the source of those Magics comes not from a pool of energy, like her's does, but from his faith in Imod, or Domi or as her people call him Tomi. She knows her magic is different than other casters of Arcane as well. Vauhwyt's magic is like her's, it's a pool, or a wellspring, inside her. She can draw from it, and chanel the magic in certin ways, to get the results she wants, like opening sluce gates to let a stream of water flow to different areas of a farm. She can direct the flow of energies until there is no more energy to be metted out, that is until she rests up and the well is refreshed for another day. She was taught by a Shaman who cast magic in a different way than she herself casts it. He explained it to her years before, and she thought about it now. He said that his magics was similar to hers but that he needed to focus that energy each day in certin ways. He could cast vastly different types of spells, but he was limited by the fact he had to dedicate the energies to the spells before he started his days. He'd even shown her his vast spellbook. He described each spell on the various pages in detail and how they worked. In fact, she used his descriptions of those spells to achieve the results of her spells. Again, that difference made sence to her, it was the Arcane Magic in his spells that she saw duplicated in her own spells. Now, with Malgant and his magics, it seemed confusing to her. He was granted magical energy by his Diety, he didn't have that magic on his own. From there it was similar to her Mentor's magic, he directed that energy in certin ways, so as to form the effects he wished. But there was a part of that Magical ability that copied her own ability, he could take the Magical Energy from any of those other effects, that he yet to cast, and direct it from where he had planned for it to be used into an effect that Healed. The more powerful the spell redirected, the more powerful the healing recieved. Aztyr was overly pleased that her own form of magic was simple, immagine reading a book every morning, or communing with a God to be granted spells every morning.... Of course Malgant wouldn't be Malgant if he didn't do his style of prayer every morning. She could just imagine some of the other Priests of Alemi, whom she met when she was learning her trade, would react to Malgant's direct and blunt style of Prayer. They'd probably die of Apoxy if they witnessed his form of prayer vigil every morning. With that she thought she broke out in a hearty laughter, almost spilling her Lemonade all over her shirt. To her friends, if any are with her, "I was just thinking of the differences in beliefs, and styles of worship between Malgant and those Priests in the Temples and Chueches in big cities. His type of Fellowship with Imod would probably casue them to keel over dead about the way he prays every morning." She used Prestidigitation to clean up the slight spillage and then adds a bit of a salty taste to the fried onion circles. "Sally, these are simply delicious."

Malgant presses Dul further, waiting for Vauhwyt to chime in. The Liontaur has been stoically silent up until now.
-Who is the master of Mount Bone? -Where in/on Muont Bone does he reside? -What other hybrids are there? -Why are there both good and evilly aligned creatures in the hybrids? -How long has this been going on? -How many hybrids are there? -Why would a druid allow this perversion of creatures to occur? Obviously Dul is not a complete monster or he would have killed the fisher folk and the Unicorn when he took the girls. How could he allow this wizard to do this?
He hopes Vauhwyt has more questions. The answers he is getting so far do not paint a rosy picture.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday January 13th, 2011 3:23:12 PM
I'm working on my PC sheet! Sorry. Almost done.
But honestly, I do not think Vauhwyt is up to talking to Dul's dead body. Note that in no post has she actually said *anything* since her fledglings died.
Mookie may have a comment, though, and Vauhwyt is not even up to hushing him.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday January 13th, 2011 5:13:25 PM
Vauwhyt's sheet is done! Please check it out. Here it is! I still have to make a sheet for Mookie, and I have to detail the changes when V is in reduced form and in halfling form and when Mookie is in halfling form. But I think this is good enough to start posting.
==========
Vauhwyt has been thinking on her own, but finally Mookie has convinced her to "Stop moping," and rejoin the company. At Sally's inn, she joins her friends for a meal, and really enjoys those "rings of onion" or whatever you call them.
She smiles at Aztyr and tries some of the lemonade, too.
She stands seriously but silently as Mal interrogates the dead. Mal asks her if she has anything to add. She shakes her head no, and seems barely able to keep it together, judging by the droop of her tail.
Mokie pipes up, though. "Caw! Caw! Call me paranoid, but how come that druid was following us in Blackbird Forest? Huh? Ask him that, cowboy! Was he looking for us? Who sicced him on us? How did he know where we were? Did he tell anyone else where we were building our new home?"
He pauses, and then re-asks his question. "Does anyone else know where we are building our home?"
"Doesn't matter so much if he TOLD anyone. Matters more if anyone else KNOWS."
You might note that Mookie's black feathers have a sheen to them ... almost a glow, and he is not quite as insulting as he used to be. [OOC: He's actually now a celestial raven. Yeah, he's not quite sure he believes it, either.]

Malgant nods at the raven's wisdom, wishing he had thought that far ahead. -Does anyone else know where we are building our home? -How did you find us ? -Why did you pretend to be a friend? Malgant will put a hand on Vauhwyt's shoulder to let her know she is not alone in her grief. He misjudged the girls and Vauhwyt's ability to teach them good habits and he is still ashamed to have done so.
OOC Whoa, I see why it took you so long to finish that. Question, you can add armor spikes to armor as a weapon and then make them defending and thus get even more bonus AC? I have to admit I never thought of that.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday January 13th, 2011 9:37:37 PM
OOC: I talked over the defending armor spikes strat in the Rules center, and no one blinked. In fact. Rulesmeister Troy says he has a PC that does something very similar. The sweet part is boosting the Enhancement bonus with GMW, then using that bonus as an AC boost when needed.
I don't think I could use them for defense while attacking with another weapon. That would be too sleazy. Vauhwyt's main combat technique is to attack with armor spikes as primary and paws as secondary.

Vorelle sits in on Malgant's conversation with the dead, she finds them to be an un-lively bunch.
Waiting for Malgant to complete task, Aztyr musses on the nature of magic trying to understand the differences between arcana and divine. It is a question which hundred of philosophers have devoted their life to.
Malgant continues to probe Dul for more questions. The druid corpse is unable to tell who the Lord of Mount Bone is, nor where he resides, since he has never meet the person The Lord of Mount Bones uses intermediaries and a strong top down structure. As for other hybrids he can only tell you about the wizard's earlier attempts such as the roc/snaping turrtle, the frog/dragonfly or pushme pullme two headed dragon sadly most of those didn't live long. As for good and evil creatures, effectively the wizard was draining aspects from one creature and infusing them into another there alignment doesn't matter, but was done in such a way the drow warriors where still obedient followers. It's been going on for years. Dul doesn't know how many hybrids there are. The druid said he had no choice, it was unfortunate that some have while others don't, but that is the balance of things. He hoped the fledglings would survive the process and he would be allowed to let them grow according to their nature, but he fear they were doomed from birth first by Lord Mount Bone, then by Vauhwyt nature.
(ooc: I didn't see any thing glaring from my quick glance, Look good to me. )

At Mokie's prompting they learn that Dul was set to watch the Harpies to make sure they didn't try to renege on there deal with the wizard of magic for a clutch of fledglings. He was ordered to recover the fledglings and unicorn, he figured he would find a opportunity at some point if he was helping out, as it turned out the wizard created an opportunity by having the zoomaster attack the main group. The wizard figured out your two groups were actual one when the unicorn was stolen from the fair then turned up here. I will be cremating the remains of you three, both to keep you from being resurrected to fight us again, and to keep you from being raised as unnatural undead monsters. The other 2 will be fish food in Acid Lake. Where would you wish your ashes scattered? This is the only kindness I can or will offer you. I hope that time in Gargul's embrace will show you how you could have been better, both to yourself and to the creatures you proposed to help."
Malgant sits back, drained as anyone would be after 45 minutes of questioning unwilling witnesses. He looks to Vauhwyt. " Are we going after the rest of these wizards and eventually, the Lord of Mount Bone? I suspect we are. It does not sit well with me that this is happening in the region we claim to be the protectors of. I suspect you and the others will feel similarly. I am sorry for your loss, especially my part in not believing in you or the girls. I was wrong, they could change. They did change. All because you believed in them and were willing to make a commitment to them. Think how much this whole region can change if all of us make a commitment to it. Lets make a difference. Lets be a catalyst for change in this region. We have done so much as individuals, let us work together and accomplish even more."
Vauhwyt and Mookie d20+12=23 ; d20+12=32 ; Friday January 14th, 2011 1:07:32 PM
To our kindly DM Glenn, Please Highlight to display spoiler: {Two checks from Vauwhyt ... Aztyr: 23, Vorelle: 32 NAT 20!!}
Standard operating procedure for Vauhwyt and Mookie, as indicated on her new PC sheet: Every day at 8 am Vauhwyt casts the following spells, constituting her Daily Dose Spell Set:
On Vauhwyt: Greater Magic Weapon on her armor spikes, False Life, Detect Scrying, and Greater Magic Fang (right paw). Hopefully she will also have an Extended Magic Vestment from Mal. If necessary, she renews her Contingency (Greater Invisibility) and Shrink Item spells.
On Mookie: False Life, Contingency (Greater Invisibility).
On Mal: Extended Greater Magic Weapon
She casts all the Daily Dose spells with her armor off so she has no chance of spell failure.
As soon as she has even the slightest inkling that she may be in trouble or a fight, she generally plans to cast her Battle-Ready Spell Set of Barkskin, Heroism, Magic Circle vs Evil, Greater Magic Fang (left paw) on herself; and Barkskin and Heroism on Mookie.
Now, to bring this post back to the present, when Vauwhyt makes the checks posted above for kindly DM Glenn, she has only the Daily Dose Spell Set on her, not the Battle-Ready Spell Set. It is up to Mal if the GMW/MV trade has been made, but it is a standard part of Vauhwyt's routine.
The rest of this post is DM-Only. Please Highlight to display spoiler: {DM Glenn, I am pretty sure that my checks will get me a fix on at least one of those scriers, maybe both, along with distance and direction. Depending on what Vauwhyt sees, her immediate inclination is to grab her friends and teleport there THIS ROUND. The problem is that she can TP only herself plus four medium-size creatures at a time. A large-size creature counts as two. She wants to bring Vorelle, Val, Aztyr, Mal, and Mookie. Clearly, that's not possible because that's five people, and Mal counts as two. So she needs to cast a spell on Mal to medium size (Reduce Person spell will do the trick) and then bring Mal, Val, Vorelle, and Aztyr with her, leaving Mookie behind. This is an example of where Pathfinder's nerfed Share Spells screws familiars, because you can't share a teleport with a familiar like you used to. Oh well. QUESTION: If Mookie hides in the Handy Haversack, can he come along for free? So the next thing I need is what kind of info I get on the scriers. Assuming Vauhwyt gets enough info to try a TP, she'll call all her friends for a group hug, she'll whisper in Mal's ear, "Trust me," and cast Reduce Person on him. She'll make a mental note to get him a few potions of Reduce Person for future situations like this one.}

Valanthe has her emotional side, as buried as it is. Normally she isn't one for the female bonding stuff. It's just not her. With tempered rage she was a warrior. Strong, tough, and unshakeable determination. She had to be in order to survive. For everybody to survive. If it wasn't for Malgant she didn't know where she would be right now. Mentally or emotionally. He was the one she relied on. Told her dreams and her fears. He was the one that held her when she broke down and cried. Vauhwyt just suffered a tremendous loss. While a group hug in mithril plate wasn't ideal it probably wouldn't matter this time. So Valanthe walked over and put an arm around the larger liontaur (even if Valanthe was over 6' tall now)

Through the mental link, Vauwhyt says, A lich is scrying us right now! I got a good look and can teleport there right now! The problem is that I can only bring four people, and Mal and Aztyr count as two each.
I propose that I teleport this round NOW, with Vorelle, Val, and Aztyr. Aztyr has already cast her spell this round, thanks for the telepathy. Next round she can teleport back here, and the round after that, she can bring Mal and Mookie to the lich.
Any better ideas? We have to act fast right now while the lich is not expecting it, or it will just teleport away!
Vorelle and Val, when we arrive, you have to ready attacks on that lich for the moment it starts to cast a spell or activate an item. That way you can hope to foil its action. Next round I'll grapple it.
Any objections? Any one of us can veto, but veto now! First and last chance to stop this!
Note/Questions to DM Glenn: This round Vauhwyt sensed the scrying, beckoned her friends for a group hug, and sent her thoughts. Is that a full round of actions? I'm hoping it is not, and that I can cast my Teleport right now. If so, can we can still get to the lich before the lich can respond? Can I cast that Teleport? I will do so, bringing Val, Vorelle, and Aztyr right next to the lich, unless someone says no between now and the end of this round.

Vauhwyt mentions that the bodies will say, uncorrupted and very much reduced in size for easy transit, for many days, so there is no hurry. She gives the shrunken clothlike objects to Mal to do with as he will.
She has an idea. "If we create a number of very similar places, distinguishable to us but not to a scrier, then we can teleport to them at will and none will know where we are, she says through the telepathic link.
What she means is, make a stone house or box, like Dul did, with a secret door. Make it dark inside, and use stone shape to make the texture of the floor distinctive. If we set up multiple houses like this, we can teleport to any one at will. Someone scrying will not know where we are.
Also, she intends to buy an eversmoking bottle as son as she can. Then, if she senses any scrying, she opens the bottle and foils all sight. With the telepathy spell -- which she really admires, by the way, Aztyr -- no scrying can reveal anything.
She starts right away, looking for a rock outcrop on the beach, casting six wall of stone spells to make a box, with stone shape spells to make a secret door, with a textured floor so that even if obscured by magic or smoke, a bare-pawed liontaur will know right where she is by touch alone.
She does this work out of sight of her friends, in case any are scried again, but she is careful to return near her friends often so that if any are scried, she will know it.
Once it is done, it will serve as a place to sleep, and even if scried, the dark room will be nondescript and placeless.

Handing the shrunken cloth-like bodies to Mal, Vauhwyt proposes a few ideas and begins working on box shape shelters out of sight of her friends.
Vorelle wonders about Scry alarm (ooc: Knowledge check? Found it. Sorry.) When the Lich was mentioned, the ranger knows some common information about them. They are usually powerful spell casters who have cheated death by storing there soul a phylactery. Beyond their magic, they have the power to paralyze people with a touch, and just being around them can cause one to flee in fear. They are hard to kill and have many immunities.
Aztyr reassures everyone that Vauhwyt can detect the Scrying, but suggest the one scrying on her must be powerful, for she doesn't recall leaving anything at the battle. Valanthe comments about leaving a lot of her blood there.

Vauhwyt shoos away kids and onlookers. "Friends," she says, "it would be safer if you did not come near. Really."
Her words are gentle, but you can tell she means it by the emotion she packs into them. Intimidate 38.
With five walls of stone, she can swiftly create a small building that's 30 ft x 30 ft by 10 ft high, with a textured stone floor. The walls are half-standard thickness, but that's fine, since they are intended to block vision and light, not stand up to sustained attack by siege engines. With two secret doors on opposite sides and internal columns to hold up the roof, it should be fine. And Vauhwyt can finish it within a few minutes, hopefully before being scried again.
When it is done, she visits her friends again, checks for scryings, and urges them to make themselves comfy in the safe house.
She does think an eversmoking bottle is a good investment for the future, in addition to making a number of these safe houses scattered all over.

Malgant accepts Valos help and about a half mile from the village, downwind, the bodies are reconstituted and burned. When that is done and Vauhwyt is shooing the others into the shelter, Malgant walks about the village. He inquires about the damage from the shift in the Wold, whether any in the village are currently sick or ill and any other services he can render unto them for their hospitality. If he is able to find the Poet, Voshnim the Sturdy in the Village Malgant approaches the elder and speaks to him. "A young and not so wise priest wishes to thank you for the advice and directions you gave him about the island where no living things grew. We found the island and accomplished our task of making the Wold safe from it. Only your wisdom and guidance allowed us to do so. I thought you should know that, in case you were ever to speak of the place again in your works." Malgant is respectful and truly thankful to the old Minotaur as he says ths, knowing too well the old poet's temper about impertinence. Malgant will also gather dinner for his companions since he is one of the few that can leave Vauhwyt's box to do so. Once the meal is laid out and consumed he will ask what their next play is in finding the scryer or the one in command of Mount Bone, likely one and the same person.

Our group isn't the Official guardians of the area, but we feel it's our responsibility to protect the populace. The shelters are for our use, as a safe area to arrive in when we teleport from one location to another. Since they will all be the same inside, anyone who tries to discover where we are while we are inside one of them will be totaly at a loss. We will be setting up a minimum of five or six scattered all over. The only reason we have one here, is that we feel responsible for your village as well."
Aztyr will head to the Cube as she starts to call the walled in building. Once inside, "We can have lights on in here, right? And I have a few Ideas for some other cubes in the area where we generally are. Remember I have access to Disintigrate as a spell, so we can build them underground, and just shore up the walls with your walls of stone."

Vauwhyt grins, maybe her first honest smile since the fledglings died, when Vorelle says she does not want to stay in these dark places for long. "Me neitherr!" says Vauwhyt. She explains (through the mental link, which is still up, I believe) that the idea of the safe houses is that if we are ever scried or on the lam, we can teleport to them and a scrier won't know where we are, since any one house will look exactly like all the others. She also would like to put a layer of gold or lead or iron over the entire ediface, if that would work to block anything (does that even work in Pathfinder?).
We can stay here for an hour or two, to see if we are being scried, but after that, I guess we are as safe as we can be, she thinks to her friends. I do think we should stay well away from the village in order to protect them.
If the village elders need any explanation, Vauhwyt will offer some words, although she thinks Mal is doing fine. Aid Another to his diplomacy: 20.

Aztyr continues to chat with the other village elders reassuring them and letting them know about the safe Cube houses. They seem to take it well.
As Mal brings food to everyone stuck in the cube, an unamused Vorelle wonders how long they need to stay inside.
Grining, Vauhwyt agrees with Vorelle not wanting to stay hiding away. She suggest waiting in the box for a few hours. (ooc: I believe lead is still a valid barrier to some spells, but not all.)

Vauhwyt stays the night in the new stone hut. She makes a mental note to cast shrink item on a number of quilts, pillows, and feather mattresses. In fact, this might be a good place to get taur-sized bedding, and so tomorrow before departing she will seek out a shopkeeper in the village who has some for sale.
"Good idea," Vauhwyt tells Aztry, regarding her plan to put more safehouses underground. "I can help with stone shape too." Val has a great idea too, with the thought of a portable instant fort that can resist scrying. Sounds pricy, though.
That night, she and Mookie will stand a watch with Vorelle. She does remind Mal that Mookie can stand a watch if he wants company.
The next day, Vauwhyt is eager to do her quick shopping in the village, if possible, and then to teleport away.
"Aztyrr," she says, we need to both be familiar with a number of places for Teleports and for safehouses. Here are some possibilities:
This village on Minotaur Isle (what is it called again?) -- both know
Plateau City -- Vauwhyt knows. Does Aztyr?
Tears of the Wood Inn -- both know
Fledgling Bay on Blackbird Lake -- Vauwhyt knows. Does Aztyr?
Dirt City -- Vauwhyt knows. Does Aztyr?
Acid City -- both know
With what other locations is Aztyr familiar? Is there anyplace we want to add?
Vauwhyt suggests that it is possible to get to a location that none of us know at all, make a safehouse there, and then no one will be able to find us at all, since the location will be a complete mystery even to ourselves!

During Malgant's watch he is slightly startled by the light rapping. At her first words Malgant's alarm bells start going off. Never off of this island has he used his Family name. He left that name behind when he was exiled so that his family would not share his disgrace. Only singlehandedly slaying an enemy of the faith and returning to the Temple proof of the deed would earn him the right to use that name again. Loudly saying " We will speak out here, one of my companions has started a cooking fire inside and it has smoked up the room. Speak not that name. I have not earned the right to it. Not yet." is the only explanation he gives before stepping out the door and shutting it behind him, cutting off the halfling's view of the others.Taking a few steps to get his legs, and mind working Malgant casts Protection from evil on himself as he prepares to speak to the halfling. He does not sheathe his sword nor does he let the halfling within touch range of himself if it can be helped. He sweetens his words but his mind probes keenly at every word she says in response. "How did you come by that name? I have Never used it since I was exiled. None but my family and the priests who know me would know it. But her story is still quite convincing. her desire to touch him, specifically to kiss him is what mostly worries the normally stoic Minotaur. Also she managed to answer almost none of his questions with her response. Time to try a different tack.
To mollify her and perhaps stop her from crying he explains " We are not much loved by the foes we have crossed. Recently we were viewed by magic and so are wary of those we have not met before. Your timing and presence are a bit odd given our current situation, so we must take precautions. I apologize for the brusque treatment. I never even knew that Bards had any interest in me much less were writing songs. Were you hurt on your trek here, I can provide you with some healing if you were. ( Bluff 6 ) Malgant then goes through the motions to cast cure light wounds ( 10 damage 'healed' if the target is live, 10 damage delivered to the target if it is hurt by positive energy) on the halfling to heal the 'phantom' wounds he says he sees. She'll drag Mookie and herself into the Realm of Shadows, step through the wall, and see what Mal and the halfling are doing from the Spirit Land. Since she can see into the Wold from there, she will watch the two of them and try to read their lips.
First, as a free action, she glances into the Realm of Shadows to see if there are any surprises waiting for her. If not, the Concentration check to enter the Realm of Shadows is moot because with her +20 on the DC12 check, well, yeah. Mookie needs to make a DC20 Fort save, though, and makes it with a nat 20! Nonetheless, he'll hide in his belt pouch this whole fight because I have not yet made him a PC sheet.
Outside, Vauhwyt watches and tries to read lips, a skill that, while she remembers it being an actual skill of its own under D&D3.0, and subsumed into Spot in D&D3.5, does not seem to exist in Pathfinder. "Just as well," she says to herself. "For one thing, I have no ranks in any skill that comes close, and for another, it is comforting to know that none of those scrying liches can read our lips when they are watching us."
So she just watches, ready to step out of the shadows and attack if violence erupts. She positions herself so that she will be flanking the halfling when she emerges, the better to get a full round of sneak attacks against the thing.
By the way, the only spells she has up and running are Detect Scrying and Mal's Magic Vestment on her buckler, both of which last 24 hours. And Contingency with Greater Invisibility, since it lasts until triggered. And some Shrink Items, which last days and days. Previously on the list would have been a Centaur, but the war with them has ended. I would also assume that a Ga'alian priest of similar level would count as Ga'al and Imod are diametrically opposed. Ga'al preaches slavery and servitude where Imod (Domi) preaches freedom and pursuit of ones own strength.
I never placed the Temple of the Bountiful Vine on the island. Buzz put it In or near a city, I assume Imod City.
Questions. Does Malgant get an AoO as she vanishes? if so he abandons the spellcasting and goes for a handful of hair.
I'm sorry, my tooth just flared up and I am in so much pain I can't think straight. Malgant knows he needs to get to the Temple and will see the others roused and will pray for his spells before going so that he can be of some use on arrival.

Malgant doesn't get any chance to snag the halfling before she vanishes due to her dancing away from his early attempt to touch her with his spell. The Minotaur priest did note that she vanished without using magical words, movements or spell components.
Aztyr hears the halfling bid Mal bye, but didn't have a readied action to interrupt her leaving. Also, there is no clear line of effect to the halfing from within the closed cube.
While Vorelle can still clearly hear Mal, she no longer hears the halfing.

OOC: Note the restrictions on rest and spellcasting The Encounter happened halfway through the third watch. So those who stood 1st and 2nd watch are 2 hours short 8 hours.
"Rest: To prepare his daily spells, a wizard must first sleep for 8 hours. The wizard does not have to slumber for every minute of the time, but he must refrain from movement, combat, spellcasting, skill use, conversation, or any other fairly demanding physical or mental task during the rest period. If his rest is interrupted, each interruption adds 1 hour to the total amount of time he has to rest in order to clear his mind, and he must have at least 1 hour of uninterrupted rest immediately prior to preparing his spells. If the character does not need to sleep for some reason, he still must have 8 hours of restful calm before preparing any spells. "
"Spell Preparation Time: After resting, a wizard must study his spellbook to prepare any spells that day. If he wants to prepare all his spells, the process takes 1 hour. Preparing some smaller portion of his daily capacity takes a proportionally smaller amount of time, but always at least 15 minutes, the minimum time required to achieve the proper mental state. "
"Daily Readying of Spells: Each day, sorcerers and bards must focus their minds on the task of casting their spells. A sorcerer or bard needs 8 hours of rest (just like a wizard), after which she spends 15 minutes concentrating. "
"A divine spellcaster chooses and prepares spells ahead of time, but unlike a wizard, does not require a period of rest to prepare spells. Instead, the character chooses a particular time of day to pray and receive spells. "

Description This ring continually provides its wearer with life-sustaining nourishment. The ring also refreshes the body and mind, so that its wearer needs only sleep 2 hours per day to gain the benefit of 8 hours of sleep. This allows a spellcaster that requires rest to prepare spells to do so after only 2 hours, but this does not allow a spellcaster to prepare spells more than once per day. The ring must be worn for a full week before it begins to work. If it is removed, the owner must wear it for another week to reattune it to himself.

The tired Vauhwyt arrives a few moments later with the remaining companions. Shaking off the disorientation affects of the port, Valanthe questions the wisdom of an attack on Imod.
The guards are directing any early morning people to detour around the blocked street, if asked they plainly answer that sewer repairs are underway and its not safe.
Looking far down the street past the guards you see what could be work crews of Taurs.

Approaching the guards, Malgant request entrance into the temple, the Minotaur guards look Malgant and his non-Minotaur companions over before spitting to the side and replying "Late night, Ay? You'll find the main Temple entrance down the main street to your left." The guard points the way down the larger main street for the motley group, as he and his fellow guards continue to block anyone's passage down the smaller side street where the crew work and Mal saw temple master.
The temple elders seem to be intent on discussing what ever is concealed by the work crew activity and pay no mind to the guards or the main road hoof traffic. The workers and elders are about a block away from the guard barricade point. The side street isn't in the temple proper only situated between the main part of the city and the temple.
Aztyr, Vorelle and the others seem to be letting Malgant do the talking for now.
The guard having directed Malgant and the group, turns back to chat with his fellows for a moment or two before noticing the group hasn't moved on. Shaking his horns the guard faces Mal and his group speaking in a sterner voice "Look you lot can, loiter about here. So, move along. Unobtrusively Vorelle, steps into the shadows where it would take a sharp eye to track her.
The guard looking non to happy to be in his current position, is about to do respond when Elf warrior Valanthe glares at him and reminds Malgant that the guards wouldn't hold a candle to their normal foes.
The guard starts to snarl obviously stung by the elf's insult, but Malgant taking the initiate gives the guards and option to their duty without losing face.
With Vauhwyt invokes magic powers beyond the guards understanding.
Snarly the guard tells his companions to wait as he checks with the Elders, but even before the guard can turn around, you hear the clear voice of Elder Mulna Ironhand "Guard, let Malgant and his companions through." The guard still smarting, steps aside and lets you pass.
Approaching the Elders, you get a good look at what the work crew is about on the street. They have dug a trench into the street and created a rampart that conceals from view the very large black sphere setting in the street. The sphere is about 15feet in diameter, very black and perfectly round. Elder Roland Stronghord cautions your group "Do not touch the sphere less you wish to lose a hand or hoof. This artifact appeared in the middle of of the street last night. It was smaller then, having grown to it present size. What do you make of it?" " It comes from the Lord of Mount Bone, of that much I can be certain. Two days past we assaulted one of his minion's laboratories and killed the wizard within. This wizard was taking multiple creatures and fusing them through magic to make monstrosities. Many of my friends were magically watched yesterday. I was not, Imod's wards be praised. Yet the survivors of the fight knew I was both a Minotaur and a Protector. I fear this is an attempt to hurt me through hurting the Minotaur people. I will return to Mount Bone and find this 'Master' and find a way to remove this evil sphere or die trying. Many of you know more than I will ever know about the Wold. Seeing the black sphere and what it can do, Aztyr is certain it is a Sphere of Annihilation, but the fact that it is 7-8 times larger than any she has heard of and that is is growing isn't a good sign. (ooc: Knowledge role is good enough you can read the section about Sphere of Annihilation under Artifacts. It also occurs to you that the negative effects of getting rid of a sphere could be expectational larger for this sphere.)
Vauhwyt suspects the object is an artifact known as a Sphere of Annihilation, but they aren't know to be that size or to grow. You magic hand trick feels like the magic was adsorbed upon contract, but you can still renew the magic to use elsewhere.
Feeling it's not going to be a good day. Malgant has heard of a Sphere of Annihilation, and that it utterly destroys what ever enters it. The Minotaur blames the Lord of Mount Bone, and explains to the Elders their resent dealings with a Mount Bone wizard.
Elder Ironhand muses "So you believe Lord of Mount Bone is seeking revenge by threatening your home temple? He maybe toying with you, trying to act rashly and in haste. See to your morning devotions, we still have time and are still studying this sphere. Then we will see what help we can be."
Vorelle remains hidden as she watches the others and the sphere.
Valanthe points out that the sphere must be dealt with before the Lich.
Elder Swordbreaker speaks up before you have a chance to go, "You should know, that we determine that something is holding the sphere here. With our combined will, we have been unable to move the sphere or stop it's growth. Someone has a link to this sphere and is able to control it at a distance, probably using some sort of device which has been keyed to the sphere."

Malgant looks around wondering how and where there might be someone watching and perhaps controlling the sphere. He looks at Vauhwyt wondering if the Grim feels anyone scrying them. Finally his emotions exhausted he looks back to the Elders and asks in a voice you have not heard come from Malgant in the time you have known him, a voice of doubt." Would the temple be able to spare a runner to look in on my family? I know that the all consuming sphere of darkness is center stage right now, but the minion of Lord Bone that told us to come and see his handiwork used my family name. I have not used it since I spared them my shame when I was exiled. To have an enemy use it makes me afraid for them. If none can be spared I will go once my morning devotions are through. I cannot allow harm to come to them because of me." " Val, I fear one of the few ways we can right this IS to go deal with the Lich. To put a final end to his machinations once and for all. Without a clear line of attack to get to him though, I fear we might need to start at one end of Mount Bone and kill everything from that end to the other until we find him. This too does not distress me. What distresses me is that while we carve our way to the problem, the Lich can continue to expand this blasted thing and destroy Imod City and it's inhabitants an inch at a time. We need a way to block his vision of this sphere, perhaps draw him out where we can deal with him. Let me pray to Imod for guidance and we will see what solutions arise." Malgant enters the temple and goes to the practice yard. Despite the several other initiates there, offering their morning prayers, the Protector clears his mind and begins the sword dance. As in other times when his mind is troubled by problems he can not directly engage and defeat, the fluid moves of the kata elude him the first time. He begins again and the questions still swirl, still mar the perfect completion of the prayers. The third time, the questions align and the moves come fluidly and are unmarred by doubt. Imod's prayer are granted to him and he leaves the prayer yard confident that he can now overcome the problems facing him and his friends and set things right.

Malgant will then ask his friends a series of questions. During his third time through his weapon kata he was able to see a way to get to the Lich scrying on them. He consults Vauhwyt and Aztyr and reveals what he came up with. Vauhwyt can see the scryer when he scrys on her friends. If she were to get a scroll of Discern Location, she could then find out EXACTLY where he is. With a scroll of Scrying or Greater Scrying she could then scry that place. After studying it she would then be able to Teleport there . At least, that is how Malgant understands the spells working. He also thinks that having the Sphere covered by deeper darkness might stop the controller's control, if the controller needs to see the Sphere. This can be done selectively with a Hallow spell so that followers of Imod, or those of Good alignment would not be affected by the darkness( at least that's how I read it...Glenn?)
Malgant will also cast Lesser Restoration on Vauhwyt to allow her to feel rested so that she may refresh her spells.

Vorelle doesn't understand magic. She tries to think of this in terms she does understand. Like a vine maybe? Or, maybe more like the kinds of scent markers that animals use, which they can "read" at a distance.
A person who knows what she's doing can obscure or confuse a scent marker. So...."Is there any way we can interfere with the connection to the sphere?" she asks her friends. "Or confuse whoever's on the other end?"

Vorelle wonders if they could confuse or interfere with the connection. Aztyr offers to cast a Private Scantum. Valanthe ask about Vauhwyt's anti magic aura thingy. Vauhwyt walking around doesn't detect any Scrying and ask Mal what he thinks would happen.
The elders look doubtful, "I don't think a Private Scantum would do anything other than blind a scrying. As for Anti-magic it probably wouldn't affect such an artifact, but since the few known magics that do affect it has a chance of detonating it we don't want to take that risk just yet. Give it size even a scaled detonation would put a large hole in our city. We don't want to do anything to the sphere until we can evacuate the area around, perhaps the whole city all while not causing a panic."
Malgant makes his way to the practice yard to take care of his daily devotional. The others have some time to catch up on missed rest. Word comes back that Malgant's family is well.
A few hours later word spreads through the temple of a messenger from the liontaur Island porting in with urgent news of an unprovoked attack on the residents of their city by small band of Tarus and non-Tarus! This news is followed shortly by a request for your group to join the Elders in the council cambers.
Arriving there you see a distraught Liontaur with her back to you talking to the three Elders, As you approach one of the Elders ask the Liontaur, could you repeat your news again. Elder Mulna Ironhand stands up looking sternly at everyone, "Peace, Malgant is no Villain, and Li the messenger is know to us. It it Mount Bone's way to divide and conquer. I vouch for for everyone here. No please recount the attack."

Vauhwyt casts a Message cantrip to whisper to all her friends. She asks that they all meet quietly together for a chat.
"The Master of Bone Mountain is trying to distract us. He wants to lure us to battlefields of his own choosing. It is not our duty to be dupes to his strategy. We do not have to follow his minions to fight where he wants us to. If he chooses to attack our towns or villages, that is his choice. It does not require a response from us."
"Mal, the minotaurs here are strong and capable. They do not need the likes of us to defend them. For us to so insist may actually be an insult to their honorr." Her accent reveals her intensity, as does the swish of her tail.
"Instead, we have to fight to our own strengths! We have to stick together. We have to stay on the move. We can teleport everywhere, and we have no base of operations. He cannot hit our home because we have none."
"What he seeks with his strategy is to keep us off guard and to prevent us from realizing his weakness. He has a home! A wide-ranging mountain! He cannot be everywhere at once. He canot defend all the parts of his realm. We can strike, damage him, loot him, and be gone. Then we do the same thing the next day."
"Our weakness is lack of information. We need to know more about this thing. We need to know his powers, his range, his home. We need to scout his mountain, gather information, capture his minions, and interrogate them. We are especially well skilled at that."
"I propose first that we first of all ignore all distractions. If he chooses to wage war on the Wold, he will simply bring more enemies down on himself."
"I propose second that we stay on the move, never in the same place at one time, teleporting away the moment we are scried, setting up our safe houses so that if we are scried in them, we cannot be targeted. If every time he sees us we are in dark smoke, then he will gain nothing by scrying us."
[OOC: DM Glenn, am I right in assuming that a scry into total darkness or into the smoke of an eversmoking bottle (or into both) does not yield a valid TP fix?]
"I propose third that we begin a series of strike and scouting raids, with the dual purposes of finding his weak points and lairs, hitting targets of opportunity, and then blipping out. Let him fear when and where we will strike next, not the other way around."

I am counting on the Holy and Undead Bane to overcome that but it will still slow me down. Spells, especially damage spells will be subject to his SR. What do you guys think? Aztyr and I are planning on using undeath to death as a minion clearing tactic, provided he is using undead for fodder. If he is using live fodder then the undeath to death will be all over the Lich. I also want to pick up some incense of meditation and maybe a candle of invocation for the last fight. Again, what are your thoughts?

OOC Glenn, I took a feat ( armor proficiency heavy armor) that I already had from Protector. I need to swap it out. Also since we haven't engaged anything yet can I drop the (channel Smite) feat I took for a different feat? It really isn't going to do me any good.

So we walk over to the Mangled Centaur, then teleport to Plat City for the Catacombs.
@Vorelle: When you exit the Catacombs, you have to go out the same door you came in!

Valanthe wonders if the sphere caused doubles to appear.
Talking quitly via a message spell, Vauhwyt lays out her proposal not to respond to the attacks, but to make their own. Malgant points out he is sworn to protect others, but he would like to be more proactive in the battle.
Aztyr points out that they probably have no clue as to her family and that they seem to be going off the appearance she used during the wizard attack. Vauhwyt agrees and takes one the appearance of a centaur while suggesting a shopping trip.
Vorelle family is in Dirt City, while they are not close she didn't want them to come to harm. Vauhwyt reminded her the the foe probably doesn't know about that unless mentioned.
Aztyr wonders about access to Catacombs from here. One of the elders nods, "Yes there is." Vauhwyt agrees, but wanted to contact the Gargulites.
Malgant suggest warning Xill and her children at the Mangled Centaur.
Vauhwyt lays out a teleport plan to Mangled Centaur, then Plateau City. Malgant points out the mangled Centaur is only across town. Aztyr is in favor of visiting the Catacombs in via this town. Vauhwyt that too much reliance on her GPS teleportation is starting to rot her sense of navigation.
(OOC: Yes to Catacombs visit and to Malgant feat adjustment, still within the three month tweaking time of the conversion. Sorry, Catacombs can't be used to transport between cities.)

Valanthe accompanied Malgant, just to be near him. He was her rock. He was the one she leaned on when things proved too much. With the talk of family Valanthe's thoughts turned to her own. They were probably dead. It's been a hundred years since the attack and they are probably dead. Even if they aren't she wasn't even the same person. Not physically anyway.
"Once we get the chance we should go away, just the two of us." She said to Malgant.

Malgant prefers the leg room of a two first class teleports rather than cramp reduced size of a coach class teleport. He also suggest precautions against scrying. Vorelle volunteers to mislead any scry attempt on her.
Reaching the Mangled Centaur, Malgant and Valanthe learns after stafying a parionod barkeep that your not doppelgangers that the Cloudprance family is not currently in town, having left early this morning.
