DM Cayzle - The Trip South
Monday February 21st, 2011 8:23:48 AM

DM OOC: I know most people have not posted, but my opportunities to post have gotten a little more limited lately. So here is the DM Post for Monday morning.

Garret looks from the polished magic rocks to his own Tear of Eberyon and back. They do seem very similar.

[OOC: You guys realize that in Pathfinder, you can ID magic items with a Spellcraft check and a Detect Magic spell? "Identify the properties of a magic item using detect magic: DC(15 + item's caster level)". An Identify spell is not needed, though it can replace the Detect Magic and gives a big bonus to the check.]

It is still the middle of the night, so Avis cannot fly yet, but the craft does float and can be towed.

The party decides it is too foul and maybe dangerous to stay here. Keela helps break camp. Alexi lends a hand.

The party moves off, to the south. Without a full rest, and still a little wounded, the party is in no shape for another fight. Fortunately, no dangers present themselves, other than the days-old tracks of a big hunting cat, maybe a tiger, that you notice on the trip south and southwest.

The lands west and northwest of Bryn Baraz are infertile, blighted, and dry. But now you have swung wide around Bryn Baraz, and are moving into the lands south of the mining settlement. The terrain grows friendlier, the grasses, greener. This land you know, having travelled it before (aside from Galin, who game from who-knows-what direction in the dark mines of Al Mathir). You know you have a long journey across rolling gentle hills and plains traveling south to the Crying Woods. A few days pass without event.

Keela
Monday February 21st, 2011 11:41:04 AM

Keela spends several tense hours while the group travels that night. If they are attacked, it will go badly.

Luckily, that doesn't happen, and over the next few days she falls back into her typical routing. The Rope Trick is available every night for those who want it, and the Alarm spell helps protect the camp. She tends to Daisy, and helps with the other horses, the way Alexi showed her.

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9]
Monday February 21st, 2011 12:25:37 PM

Garret moves along carefully as the group heads away from the spoiled land. The poisoned land appears to disturb him as the group moves along. When they reach the clear lands and the grasses, Garret's spirits quickly lift and he wanders about more through the grass and the trees as the group continues their journey. He looks up at Avis often, waving, as they continue along. He is clearly at home in the rolling hills.

"Very well."

Jet crawls into the cargo hold of Avis and goes back to sleep while the group wants to travel on.

Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36)
Monday February 21st, 2011 9:31:42 PM

Alexi helps 'hitch' up Avis then takes pen to parchment and makes a notation on his map "Fought smelly Earth Creatures and Wad of Worms here", the mark on the map more of a guess than an exact location. Mounted on Lobo, lance ready, he takes up a position in front.

Entering the more lush grasslands, Alexi sighs with some relief that now the hoses will have plenty to eat. They were getting a bit lean, and a weak hungry warhorse can't fight very well. But also he remembers the dangers of the area.

"Folks, we are entering Ambush Drake territory, if there are any more. So keep your eyes peeled for a dragon-like lizard that lives up to its name, Ambush Drake."

Zeph Pathfinder HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil)
Monday February 21st, 2011 11:23:45 PM

Zeph volunteers to "steer" Avis as the horses tow it.

But in truth, he will be studying his spellbook.

Sorry for the short post. I have a presentation in the morning and I think my stress is going to kill me if I don't do well tomorow.

DM Cayzle - Ugh!
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 7:22:19 AM

Sorry, 8:30 am meeting at work means the DM post will come in the early afternoon!

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9]  d20+16=24 ;
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 11:40:02 AM

Garret starts watching around much closer when Alexi mentions the Ambush Drake. While he looks around he asks, "Ambush Drake? That's nothing something I've seen before. But I've heard of drakes before -- most of those I've heard of breathe fire. Is that the sort of drake that might appear here?" Garret looks around for burn marks and scorched earth.

Galin HP 64/74 AC 27
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 1:49:10 PM

Galin will follow the group in a daze looking at all the new sights and smells to him as they walk

DM Cayzle - Something on the Horizon
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 2:12:49 PM

Keela practices her homely arts, keeping everyone together safe and sound.

Jet identifies the four stones as Eberyon's Tears indeed -- two are goblin-bane and two are lizardfolk-bane! The campaigner demonstrates that he knows the value of grabbing 40 winks when he can.

Garret enjoys the growing greenery, as does Galin. It is still a hard land, still recovering from ancient catastrophe, but a living one at least, and not blighted. To Galin, the freedom and open spaces and vegetation are truly remarkable.

Zeph studies as the group heads south.

Alexi worries aloud about drakes and even manages to get Garret on alert ... but there are no signs of danger.

In fact, a few days after the blight-battle, you spy a lone individual approaching from the south.

[OOC: This is our newest player character. Please welcome Andrew, a talented writer. I will let him describe his character and name, if he so chooses. Please give him a Woldian welcome!]

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9]
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 2:26:56 PM

Garret spots the lone being from a distance. As they continue walking, Garret says to Alexi, "That's not one of your ambush drake things, is it? Because it sure doesn't look very dangerous."

Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:63/68 Inspire Courage +1, Prayer +1)
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 2:30:30 PM

Greetings Andrew and welcome to the group. I will apologize in advance for Jets rough nature. He doesn't mean to be mean, he's just an arrogant jerk. :)

After getting some decent sleep, he will go over his plans to perform the proper changes to to Avis, allowing it to hold more people or cargo.

Off in the distance, someone is seen. A single creature in a dangerous land. He wonders aloud to the others, "I suppose, it is either they that will be asking for directions or us."

He casts a quick spell before the lone individual gets closer, an Augury spell.

"What will this encounter bring?"

Cast Augury

The lone figure makes its way along the road; swaths of green, grey and brown cloth covering portions of his body, evoking a sense of green and health in contrast the the lands that surround, despite its growing health. A simple hood masked its features but soon, as it drew closer, the shadow it cast was much less a factor of deception than it was of utility. The only weapon apparent is the long spear strapped to the figure's back but it made no motion to draw it.

The figure slows at the two parties close distance. it raised a hand and pushed down the hood revealing dark brown eyes, a handsome, if tired face, and a bright, welcoming smile. "Well met, travelers," he called. He held himself cautious, but not aggressive, as if used to encountering trouble on the road.

[OOC: Hmmm. For links in the name, is it simple html code? Same for italics and the like in the body? Also, apologies for any tense confusion, I'm used to writing in past rather than present.]

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9]

Keela
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 7:02:10 PM

Keela hangs back and lets the others approach the stranger. When he offers no immediate threat to the group, she introduces herself.

"Keela Larch. I'm pleased to meet you."

(Keela is a human woman in her 20s, on the tall side, with dark hair and brown eyes. She wears a servicible gray skirt, divided for riding, and a blue cotton blouse, simple but well-made. She wears no armor and carries no weapons, although there is a wand tucked into her belt. She rides Daisy, a retired plow-horse.)

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9]
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 7:46:27 PM

(Oh yeah, description!)

An average size halfling, Garret is noticed mostly by the fact he's unnoticeable. He does not stand out in appearance at all, and in a crowd disappears more than normal due to his small size. His voice is quiet, steady, and even. His black hair is nearly always up in a topknot, sticking up about 4 inches, with the sides of his head shaved. On the sides of his head, and leading across to his eyes, there are various dark but colorful tattoos. He travels light, so is seldom seen with much gear. He is usually seen with tan leather pants that end just above his ankles and no shirt, showing his furry body. Around his waist is a rope belt with a couple small pouches hanging off of them, one heavy with small rocks. He is seldom without his sling, either in his hand or on his belt. On his back is a small backpack, clearly far from full.

Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36)
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 9:50:34 PM

Alexi gets excited at the opportunity to tell Garret all about their battle with two Ambush Drakes. He describes them in great detail, large lizard brutes with underdeveloped wings, able to fly but awkwardly. Their breath weapon was a gas that ssssslllllloooooowwwwweeeeed one down. Their bite and claws were the worse though.

Alexi takes his Ambush Drake Claw necklace off and shows it to him. "See these claws? They are from the largest of the two. They were a mated pair. They had already killed a couple scouts from Bryn Baraz and some Ahote warriors too!"

Alexi goes on to describe more ot the battle and how each one helped and how Beren, Caelnin, and Anrete went chasing after the female one as it tried to get away. "Anrete wanted to cook some steaks from one but no one was willing to eat any of it so we just burned the carcasses. I kept these as a trophy, and Istaqa, the Ahote shaman has enchanted them."

Grateful for the bit of healing, The very scarred blackhaired dwarf still looks uncomfortable astride his horse, its almost as if he would rather be eating fire than riding. his large ax across his shoulders suggests his martial status, just as his plaited goatee and mustache show that he cant grow hair on parts of his face. Having totally missed the shiny rocks in the ground he is quite curious about them and askes to take a closer look at them to see what natural properties they might have or if they are totally fabricated.

Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36)
Tuesday February 22nd, 2011 10:12:32 PM

OOC: Alexi has often wondered why Keela doesn't just wear trousers as it would be easier to ride in them than a skirt, but he's not complaining at all about the split skirt. :)

IC: Alexi belts out a laugh at Garret's question. "Hardly! Not going to be successful at ambushing anyone with those brite colors! Well, not out here anyway. And it's a two-legged thing at that!"

Alexi keeps his lance ready as the stranger aproaches. Had it been an Ahote, they'd not see him until they were right upon him. But after all they'd been through in getting the caravan to Bryn Baraz, a lone person out here in these dangerous lands could be anything but a lone warrior alone in these dangerous lands.

While the others greet the stranger, Alexi takes Lobo around the perimeter about 50 yards out to make sure the stranger is truely alone. Then returns.

Alexi sits atop an armored warhorse that appears to move quite easily despite the weight it is carrying. Alexi himself is decked out in full plate armor and carries a shield and lance. Strapped about his body are other weapons, sword, flail, hand axe, dagger, bow. He rides his horse as if he was born in the saddle.

Alexi greets the newcomer, "Hi, I'm Alexi, from Bryn Baraz. Just passing through?"

Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil)
Wednesday February 23rd, 2011 2:42:46 AM

As Zeph listens to Alexi's rendition of a fight with Ambush Drakes in amusement, Zeph takes notice of the approaching person.

He jumps down from Avis to greet the traveler.

"Hello. Strange indeed to be here alone. My name is Zeph Illidian from the Culverwood, and who might you be, sir?"

Zeph is a medium-built Elf, with green eyes, tanned skin, and rather long black hair, falling to the sides of his face. He wears no armor, but does have a long ninja-sword-like-curveblade on his back, a whip at his belt, and a spell component pouch. His clothes are dark and his gloves, belt, and boots are well made from fine leather.

Galin Burfoot HP 74/74 AC 27
Wednesday February 23rd, 2011 8:59:07 AM

Galin is enthralled by Alexi story about the drakes and is all ears, He can hardly believe that there are creature in the wold that are like that but then he thinks to himself he was a slave to a bunch or over sized Geckos. When Alexi showed the necklace he asks to see it.

When they see the lone traveler Galin leaving his helmet and shield on the deck will also drop off Avis with a loud clank and his metal armor hits the ground.

He will walk over but say nothing to the stranger just yet until he hear what he has to say and or what his reactions are.

Galins stands a formidable 4'5" tall with long Black Hair tied In Warriors Knot. He has one eye that is milk white , while the other is stone black. Current;y dresses in full Mithril plate mail ( with out helm or shield) the front of it has a circle with two triangles etched into it (Symbol of Domi) his belt hangs a hammer with several pouches and bags.

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9]
Wednesday February 23rd, 2011 11:25:34 AM

Garret also listens in close detail to Alexi's description of the battle with the drakes. Every now and then he glances up, expecting to see some flying down at them from the sky. He smiles when he sees the necklace and the claws. When Alexi finishes, Garret says, "I am quite impressed. In a way, I am sorry I missed such an exciting battle."

Lehn Dorr  d100=60 ; d100=99 ;
Wednesday February 23rd, 2011 11:32:08 AM

The man noted the hesitance and caution of the travelers, which was to be expected on a road out in the wilderness such as this. Still, though, he was glad to see people. "I am Lehn Dorr," he said, "And it's good to see travelers using the road -- but I recommend caution." He turned his eyes to look out through the wilderness. "The land is recovering, but not yet whole..." he trailed off then, catching himself, looked back to the party. "Where are you all headed?"

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9]
Wednesday February 23rd, 2011 4:18:13 PM

When Lehn mentions the land, Garret laughs out loud, "Recovering land? Oh, you mean like when the land itself rises up an attacks? When the ground starts sucking you down, stabbing you, and forming blobs to attack? Oh, we know all about that! A couple days ago were were attacked by the very land upon which we are walking."

Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:63/68 Inspire Courage +1, Prayer +1)
Wednesday February 23rd, 2011 4:30:18 PM

The large half elf named Jet stands well over six feet and carries a barrel chest with a waist just as wide. His long hair and beard are very similar, long, thick and curly. His chain shirt is seen to be covered by a tabard, representing all of the Woldian gods, even the gods of Testing. On his back, besides a backpack and a quiver of javelins is a large, two handed Falchion. It's beauty surpasses that of even a masterwork weapon.

Whatever the outcome of the spell, Jet plays it cool with the newcomer. He knows, his spell has a chance of failure and uses it only as a guide line. Also, his words can be harsh, when he does not think to use his diplomacy skills, so he lets the others form an opinion before Jet forms one himself.

DM Cayzle - A chance meeting, as they say.  d100=15 ;
Wednesday February 23rd, 2011 4:48:36 PM

Before you encounter the stranger, Charek takes a look at the magic stones. They are clearly Eberyon's Tears, likely the kind created spontaneously by Mother Wold, or maybe by fairies and placed int eh Wold, tales disagree. But Charek guesses that these stones have touched no living hand before you took them from the dirtmen. Two are lizard-banes, and two are goblin-banes. Maybe that suggests something about the kinds of enemies Mother Wold expects to find here-abouts.

Garret spies something a-coming from far off. He asks Alexi if it could be one of those Ambush Drakes he has heard about. Alexi responds eagerly, glad to again tell the tale of the amazing monster he faced long ago. Well, it seems like long ago, anyway, but surely it was just a year or so ago. Anyway, after some conversation, it seems clear that the coming encounter is not with a drake.

But Jet figures it is better to take no chances. He casts an Augury, and the unambiguous answer is that the encounter will lead to a positive outcome.

A short time later, you are in hailing distance, and then conversation distance, from a stranger. Garret, Keela, and Zeph offer introductions. Jet, Charek, and Galin are quiet yet.

Alexi makes sure that the stranger is alone -- and so it would seem. Finally Alexi introduces himself as well.

The stranger introduces himself as Lehn, and makes some small talk. He asks where you are headed.

As he speaks, you might note that some of Lehn's facial features, and the way he pronounces this word, or that one, remind you of the Ahote. They tend to dress more drably, however.

No one has yet offered the tale behind their presence here on these dry grasslands, met for good or for ill in the middle of nowhere at all.

Keela
Wednesday February 23rd, 2011 7:49:02 PM

Keela makes no reply to the man calling himself Lehn. A lone traveller in this part of the Wold is unusual, to say the least. Instead, she watches and waits.

(OOC: Hate to rain on Alexi's parade, but the divided skirt I had in mind looks more like this.)

DM Cayzle - Conversation with a Newcomer
Thursday February 24th, 2011 7:30:40 AM

OOC: I'm really sorry to do this to you, friends. Ideally the DM Post should not come after just one player has posted, and you should all have time to respond. But work is a killer and this may be my only time today to post. Apologies!

So far both Lehn and the people he has met have held their cards close to their chests. Why are you here? What do you look for? Where are you going? So far no one has said. What will break this stalemate?

A note to Lehn: One detail that has not yet been mentioned ... these people have a cart with no wheels. It just floats above the ground, levitating two or three feet up. It is pulled by a horse or two, using jury-rigged tack. Galin had been riding on it, and hopped off with a clank just now (see above).

As you speak together, you might see some speck far off and high up in the sky. You might not even have noticed except that you have been watching the skies on general principles.

All PCs may make a Perception Check DC20, and if you make it, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {Eagles!}

If you make a Perception Check DC25, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {Giant Eagles!}

Special to Lehn ONLY if he makes the second perception check or if someone else does so and relates what he or she sees ... Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You are well aware that giant eagles are in this area. They fly over from the mountains far to the west to hunt around here ... seeking the same herd animals (gazelle, some buffalo, some elk, deer, and moose) that your people hunt. Because you are in competition, you are rivals, often enemies, and often come to warfare.}

And, of course, please continue your conversation.

Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 )  d20+18=31 ;
Thursday February 24th, 2011 8:11:56 AM

The only question Jet has for the newcomer is, "When was the last time you saw a tavern and where was it?"

Jet looks up and sees something. His eyes get wide and his mouth waters as he wipes his face with his huge hand, then looks to the group, "Alright, here it is for you. We are at war with a race of intelligent lizards that have both warriors and fingerbenders in their midst, as well as other classes we might not have run into yet. If you want to remain safe, this group is likely the one thing you want to avoid, however, if you have a good spirit, hate slavery and don't mind killing things that need killing, then climb on board Avis and lets go!"

Jet looks up to the sky again. "I want to capture me one of those Giant Eagles and train it to be ridden! Zeph, you flying this thing? Get in the seat!"

Jet hurries the group along with the encounter. He seems eager to train something again and is getting a bit anse just roaming around in nowhere.

Lehn watched the sky, pensive as the shapes took form. He blinked when Jet announced his intentions. "Giant Eagles," he said slowly, "Aren't simply creatures to be tamed like your horses. They are far more cunning and dangerous than many give them credit for. Indeed, some of my people have fallen to them" He let out a long breath, eyeing Jet and the rest of the travelers.

If they were going to be in these lands that he was familiar with with such a strange flying contraption with the excitability of a young child - he shook his head at Jet's exclamation - he might as well go with them for a time to ensure they came to no harm... or didn't harm something that didn't need harming.

"If you'll have me, I'll go with you for a time. I have been sent on my own to survey the lands and the creatures."

Garret smiles again at Jet's impatience. He says to Lehn, "That there is Jet." Garret moves a little closer before he continues, "He's a little rough around the edges at times, don't mind him."

"Indeed, these are dangerous lands, and we're on a quest to try and slow down these lizardmen from taking over this part of the Wold. If you're not busy, and as our friend Jet has mentioned, if you hate slavery and evil, we'd be glad to have you join with us."

When Jet mentions the Eagle, Garret looks up and spots the giant eagle as well. He quickly looks down and around the area for potential areas of cover. He says, "I sure hope that giant eagle isn't on the side of the spoiled lands back there."

'I doubt the gods would allow us that kind of versatility. If they see us getting around easy, the Gods Of Testing would do something to test us. It's best I just keep one for myself", he says in jest, but he knows, creatures like that are not only valuable, but also very noticable. It would be better to train it and sell it.

He laments for a long time about Bantom. Trained him how to fight and often wrestled with the large creature. His best friend is gone and now, he relies on others with two legs instead of four.

He supposes, everything happens for a reason, but next time, he won't let a druid cast a spell on his best friend.

"OH, really, what is our mission again? To find a lizard exiled from lizards to help with the BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!"

Jet, looks around a bit, "I suggest you all throw a dog a bone once in awhile, lest it bite you."

DM Cayzle - Southward Ho!

Jet lays it out straight for Lehn, and invites him into the group. When he sees the eagles, he considers them covetously.

Lehn is a little skeptical about Jet's chances for taming a giant eagle. He agrees to join the group, though maybe more because they seem to need minding.

Garret tres to create a smooth welcome for Lehn. He wonders if the eagles come from the Blighted area they have passed through.

Galin laughs at the banter and ponders training a few eagles for aerial duty. Jet says, in essence, we should be so lucky.

Zeph thinks the group should leave the eagles alone. He asks Lehn, maybe intuiting something about the newcomer, if he can talk with animals.

Keela, with what may be a bit of a "boys and their toys" attitude, tries to keep the group focussed on their mission.

Alexi agrees with Galin and Jet, and imagines a flying eagle of his own. He asks Lehn his business in these parts.

Meanwhile, at Keela's urging, the party continues its trip southwards. The giant eagles, miles away when first you saw them, precede you into the south. You do note signs, tracks, and plops, that suggest a large mass of herd beasts have been through here recently. If you can make a DC15 Know Nature check, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {Bison}. The day passes uneventfully, and night falls.

Jet just happens to know a little bit about everything, but since it seems the group is unwiling to help him with his profession, he doesn't really help them with much information any more.

His lack of civilization, of any type, is wearing on him pretty badly and his surly attitude will likely only get worse.

He glanced over at Jet, "Do not despair. There are other things that bring joy to life." He rubbed his hands quickly. "Speaking of fire. Shall we stop for the night?"

DM OOC: It was early afternoon when you saw the first signs of great herds of beasts.

There is good natured joking and teasing as some contemplate their long stay away from civilized amenities. Zeph would simply like some grilled meat -- he seems to be suggesting that a hunt would be a good idea.

A short trip further along your route brings you to the realization that others are hungry for steak too. You smell a whiff of fire. You see the dust and hear the roar -- muted only because of distance -- of a stampede. You see giant eagles overhead.

You are currently a mile or two from the action. You can see mounted humans riding on the outskirts of the huge herd of bison. You can see the eagles circling overhead. And of course, the bison.

So far, you seem to be unobserved.

Alexi observes the action, specifically, which direction it is going. (OOC: a few moments observation should be easy enough to give hiim a clue). His mouth waters at the thought of real steak for a change.

"Well, bison steak beats Ambush Drake steak," he blurts. "Never heard of any Ahote having giant eagles as pets or mounts, but you never know. Or the eagles could just be in on the hunt as much as the riders, taking advantage of the confusion for an easy snack."

"Let's hope they are 'friendlies'."

Jet doesn't like the idea very much. Interrupting a peoples hunt, a hunt they may rely upon for food for their famlies, is never a good idea. Jet wouldn't interrupt any other creature that was in the process. Garret, Zeph, and Lehn move closer on horseback. Jet starts up Avis and flies overhead. You get to a hundred yards away. Out in the open, you are plainly visible. You can see that some humans on foot are holding torches on the far side of the herd, and the smoke is clearly spooking the large beasts. On the other side, more humans had positioned themselves to pick off bison that separate from the main herd as it runs by. But the giant eagles clearly do not like this plan. They are swooping over the herd, on the sides away from the fire, so that the bison are spooked from all sides. The outcome, for now, is a herd stunned into inaction.

You can see one eagle hovering about 60 feet above some mounted hunters. It is speaking in common. "GO AWAY! THESE ARE OUR BEASTS! YOU MAY NOT HAVE THEM!"

The humans are shouting back. "FLY TO YOUR MOUNTAINS OR ELSE WE WILL SHOOT YOU!" They have composite shortbows drawn. Some eagles are readied to dive down upon the humans.

Lehn, please Highlight to display spoiler: {These are your people, and it seems that yet again they are arguing with the eagles over hunting rights.}

Oh Jet, Jet, Jet......

So it seems, two groups of "people" are at war over food! Jet decides that the best course of action, is to give them a common enemy!! Yes! These two people hate each other? Really? Well, maybe they will have very second thoughts when Jet jumps out of Avis, letting it glide gently to the ground, as he tells them all, the herd belongs to him and they will be fodder for the folly, if they stick around to be tamed or defeated!!!!

However, his old mentors voice rings in his ears. There is a time to be yourself and then there is a time to help others. These are not always, in the same moment in time. Being yourself will never benefit all the gods.

So....

Instead of Jet jumping out of Avis, a fury of storms, which is his desire. Any confrontation, win or lose being desirable, being acceptable....

Instead he takes a different approach.

On a whim and without regard for the party leader, the most out spoken party member and from what is currently known, the bard of the group, will try to ease the tensions of everyone. Not that he is very good at it. He flies by them all, so that they can hear!

"Be not alarmed by the those that approach, for you are in desperate needs of a mediator! Clearly, there is a strong herd to sustain you all, but you fight against nature for different ends!"

As he continues his decent, he will look for those most prominent on either side and point them out as he speaks these words.

"Fight and die! Decrease your numbers and weaken your clans through unnecessary squabbling OR stand at a truce, for two sunsets and allow those indifferent to your past help you in your future! A much greater enemy comes from afar and all your strength together, will be needed!"

Jet floats down slowly from as high an altitude as would be possible for Avis to achieve with his "Fly" skill in the Versatile Performance category. Until he is dangerously low to the bison, where he glides along toward the ground and out of their way, if they wish to continue their conflict.

Versatile performance, Dance for Fly: 20 (I am not sure if Armor penalty applies here or not, so I will assume it does. +3 more if not. I am picturing the Honda shimmy, from the Chappel Show as an example, but whatever.. :)

[OOC: Posting now briefly as it may be my only chance today!]

Alexi and Galin are ready. Keela realizes that there is enough meat for all -- so why the disagreement?

Jet flies by, making quite a remarkable picture. That, combined with his strong words urging a truce seem to disrupt the conflict at hand between humans and eagles.

The shouting eagle calls out, "We will break from this hunt for talk if the humans will too!"

The human confers with another hunter next to him, dressed better than the others, then calls out, "Fine! This hunt is ruined now. We will truce to talk!"

The human in fine leathers shouts in a language that is very similar to that spoken by the Ahote. The humans break off and withdraw. So do the eagles.

In a short while, two eagles fly up to Jet. The human leader and his translator ride up to Garret, Zeph, and Lehn. In his native tongue, the chief addresses Lehn. "What is going on here?"

As the eagles and the humans send their representatives, Garret tries to smile and be disarming as the humans walk up. He says, "Oh, hallo! I am called Garret. I'm sad that we're not to have some steak, but I'm sure there will be more later, there were quite a number of Bison there."

When the leader speaks in an unknown language to Lehn and Lehn responds, Garret takes a small step away from Lehn, unsure of how the eagles are going to take talking if they notice part of the "mediator" group is also one of the human tribe.

At first, the largest giant eagle speaks to Jet up in the air, while the chief of the humans speaks to Lehn. But both sides, responding to Jet's diplomacy, seem willing to at least speak to each other. Soon all are gathered in a circle on the ground. All speak in common, or with translators.

Garret jokes about steak, making a gentle point about how much game there really is.

Zeph asks the human chief, "Can one own the wind or the sunlight?" The chief laughs and retorts, "Spare me your sophistry. Our desire is easy to understand. We hunt this herd, and no one else may do so. Especially not eagles."

"But where are my manners?" says the Chief. He introduces himself as Cha'tima, who calls his people to war or hunt. The leader of the eagles is Swiftwing. Jet asks about the history of these two people and their interaction.

It seems the eagles and these people, who call themselves the folk of the green, have never made peace of had agreements. They have simply argued in shouts, and sometimes in blood, over hunting rights, when they have met.

Garret learns that the party is about halfway between the Float and Bryn Baraz. Check out the map. The eagles live in the mountains to the east.

Also, most of the eagles are large size, with some medium size. There are maybe a dozen in all.

Lehn suggests in Ahote that the humans simply need to better explain what is theirs, so the eagles will know. Cha'tima shrugs and says he thinks they know. The eagle chief snorts, if this comment is translated. "When our fledglings are crying out with hunger, we care little for the claims of groundlings."

Neither side seems willing to give much.

Jet realizes that in order for them to talk peace, they must find a common ground first.

"So, Cha'tima, what is hunting this herd worth to your tribe? This is a sound commodity, with plenty of food for those that hungry and from other tribes. Have you not set a price in your mind for this over abundance?"

He then looks to Swiftwing.

"And you, most powerful Avian. Have you attempted to barter for some of this food? Your home is far in the mountains, where the winds are strong and the breeze is cold. You must have valuable resources up there that could help these people down here? Gold to mine? Fish to net?"

I can see and have seen, powerful peoples protecting what they feels is their's. The Ahote, their herd and the eagles need to protect their young. You make enemies of each other, when in fact, you are neighbors and could really help each other"

He looks back to Swift, " You would be just as angry, if we are they had come onto lands you claim, how can you not expect that from others."

Then to Cha'Tima, "You would rather see your people hurt or killed for protecting a herd from hungry children, really?"

He is attempting very hard, to show them a little sympathy for each other, but will it help, who knows...

When Jet notices Alexi pulling out his medicine bag, he shakes his head no and looks rather stern with that, hoping to get across to the fighter, that that bag would mean, we have chosen a side, if we are Ahote friends. It could damage our credability with Swiftwing.

Answering him, "The chief doesn't want anyone or anything to hunt their game my friend. It is likely one of the few possessions they own for many generations likely."

"Actually, this area probably supports more than one herd," Keela says. "I'm curious to know how you can tell this one is yours. At any rate, as my friends have said, there should be plenty here for everyone." Even if you don't put them in pens and look after them like sensible people, she thinks, but wisely does not say. "The main thing is to harvest wisely, and make sure the animals have enough grass and water and so on."

Lehn shook his head, the problem was that the Ahote considered everything on their lands their and the Eagles didn't care one way or the other. "It is the lands that are ours yet the eagles recognize no such borders. Still, though, an agreement must be made. It does little aid to either of our people to continue to war. Parents and hunters are lost in the conflict. These are our brothers and fathers, mothers and sisters. It harms all involved."

DM Cayzle - A Parley Starts
Tuesday March 8th, 2011 7:28:58 AM

DM Note: No roll is needed to receive a secret message, just to send one!

Jet tries to get each side to see the other's point of view.

Garret compliments the great eagle leader, who tilts his head and looks at Garret out of one eye. Maybe he is unsure if he is being truly praised or subtly mocked.

Alexi asks if the two sides could just hunt on alternate days.

Keela, who clearly knows what she is talking about, suggests that there is plenty enough for all. From what she has seen of the still-recovering land, that is true, within limits that may be reached in another generation or so. This land is not overly fertile, as once it might have been.

Lehn urges his people to compromise, pointing out that conflict hurts all.

The human chief scowls. "You have told me that I should share with both hands, the bounty for which my people have long labored. When we came to this land, it was a dead thing. We have brought it back to life. We will not give it away. If we helped all who were needy and came to us, soon we would have nothing left for ourselves."

"You have given me no reason to help these eagles other than their need," says Cha'tima. "And we are not heartless to the hunger of the eaglets. So here I rule, to show that the Green People are true friends to all of good will. These eagles may hunt once per month, when the moon is new, for one day, and take away one bison for every two eagles. This we give for no reason other than to help those who are hungry."

Swiftwing opens his mouth and gapes. He bows very low. "Oh thank you, thank you, mighty and magnanimous King," he says. "Our people will grow fat on your largesse!"

His sharp curved beak snaps.

"We do not want your charity. We want to hunt and feed our people. That is all," says the eagle leader. "If you have a claim on these herds, then we would be willing to give a fair price. But we have no gold or iron such as men love. We fly high and sing clear from the mountain peaks, gathering not the gems of the mountain-roots. We would pay for a right to hunt, but with what?"

Jet thinks for a few minutes before responding to Swiftwing, "The Chief has allowed you to enter his lands once a month. That is not something a leader can do easily, when they have fought so long with those he now is at peace with, perhaps, you will allow them to enter your lands on occasion so that they might take for themselves what you might not find useful, such as wild berries and pine nuts? Perhaps they can fish in your streams and for a different diet, perhaps hunt the smaller game which would not satisfy such large creatures as yourself."

"One of the biggest gifts you could give to each other.....is trust! Once that is established and not abused, prepare yourselves for a greater enemy, because I think you all will find, the enemy comes from afar and not from your neighbor. They float in a flying city they named Al Mathir. Intelligent lizards that seek to dominate everyone, including both of you and your clans. They will demand you call them sovereign and you will give them tribute or they will attempt to destroy you."

Feeling rather proud of himself he laughs out loud, "Indeed, I will predict, within the year, the two of you will be fighting besides each other against these blood thirsty reptiles. Your lives depending on each other at that time!"

Garret continues to examine the giant eagle and even starts to reach out a hand to touch the huge eagle feathers, but quickly pulls the hand back when the eagle notices him. He looks down to the large claws and gulps as he imagines the power behind them.

When Jet mentions the lizardmen, Garret snaps out of his gawking to add, "Indeed, there is a common enemy that may likely soon be headed in this direction. We should find a way to create a peaceful situation here, and I think the great, powerful eagles have indeed made an offer to pay for their food, but what might be acceptable for payment?"

He sort of mumbles to himself as he answers himself, "Me, I'd take a ride on one of these majestic creatures, myself."

Zeph supports what Jet is saying, "Tell me Cha'tima, could these Eagles assist in the cultivation of this land in order to earn their share of the stock? Perhaps by spreading seeds of productive plants from further away lands, or perhaps bringing fish from the river to act as fertilizer?"

(OOC: Kathy/Keela. I have the exact oposite problem, Zeph has no Knowledge Nature, but I am an Agriculture Pathology Ph.D. student. Work together?)

Zeph looks to Garret and says, "Old friend, were you there for the Hawkman trials in the last mission we were on? I still got some tattoos from that one. Think these creatures would value that?"

Tuesday March 8th, 2011 9:43:41 PM

Alexi joins the conversation, finally. He introduces himself as a humble ex-resident of the mining village of Bryn Baraz. Now occupied by the lizardmen from the floating mountain.

"A land exchange seems in order here. Perhaps Sir Swiftwing could let Cha'tima explore the mountains for the precious metals and gems. Once found, an exchange of an expanse of land here could be made. The Eagles could purchase, say, a third of the herd from the Green People, and with your swift wings, keep that third confined to your land. Peace markers can be set up showing the borders. Perhaps the Green People would agree to build nesting platforms so some of your eagles can stay closer to your herd.

"But you will need to be at peace when the lizardmen come. See that flying platform over there?" pointing to Avis, "They fly about in those and in larger ones. They swarm out from their floating mountain like angry wasps. We killed many of them, but it was like squashing ants. You kill one and ten more climb upon your foot and sting you."

"Nothing men love?" Keela echoes Swiftwing's words. "You can fly, you--" Don't call the King of the Eagles a big, stupid bird, Keela.

"You can fly," she repeats, a little more calmly. "People have been longing to fly as long as our races can remember. You can fly the people up to your lands, so they can fish and hunt small game as my friends suggest, then fly them back to the plains. They would be light burdens to eagles as strong as you." She turns to the human chief. "If your people could hunt elsewhere--and if they could fly to do it--would that not be worth far more than a few bison each month?"

DM Cayzle - Parley Continues
Wednesday March 9th, 2011 10:31:16 AM

Garret and Keela point out that natural flight is a wealth no human possesses. Maybe the humans would trade hunting rights for flight?

Alexi and Zeph suggests other ways the eagles might help -- as scouts, or as workers. Maybe the humans would value access to the mountains in which the eagles make their eyries?

The human chief admits that an eagle scout would be a useful ally. And it would be remarkable to see the land from high above, as an eagle does. But would Swiftwing send two or three of his people into exile?

The eagle chief bows to Cha'tima, and says that he would allow one or two eagles to serve as allies, not as slaves, maybe relieved by new volunteers every few months or seasons. And they would carry friends into the air, but not as dumb mounts. Would such service as that grant the eagles greater access to the herds, maybe a hunt every week?

Then Jet offers some remarkable news about an enemy that will soon threaten avian and humanoid alike from the northlands. "Indeed, I will predict," syas Jet, "within the year, the two of you will be fighting besides each other against these blood thirsty reptiles. Your lives depending on each other at that time!"

Galin and Alexi reinforce Jet's message, urging the two sides to unite before it is too late.

Both the eagle and the human chiefs are skeptical. How can a mountain fly? How could there be so many lizards? In fact, they know of lizards, living off to the south, and they could never be the threat you all say this Al Mathir could be.

"The lizards we know skulk in the shadows of trees, afraid to enter the forest, afraid to walk the open plains.," says the eagle chief. "so how could they raise a mountain into the sky?" He is interested in your flying wagon, however.

"If these lizards are such a danger," says the human chief, "then why have not the sacred Ahote of the North sent us word of it?" He explains that his tribe, the people of the green, are cousins to the Ahote, the people of the brown, who fight the blight to the north in a holy war against evil.

Note to Lehn: Highlight to display spoiler: {Early in your career you visited the Ahote and learned from them, and especially from their great shaman, Isstaqua. It has been a few years, though, since you have traveled north to aid them in the holy work of fighting the blight and restoring the land. Garret smiles when the eagles and the men appear to be getting close to agreement. He looks in wonder at the great beak of the eagle when it speaks and idly wonders how strong that beak could be in tearing flesh from bone. He's glad the eagle isn't angry at him. He speaks, "Oh, great eagle, should you but fly a few days to the northeast, you would encounter these lizards. Be quite careful if you do, as they are quite violent and evil."

OOC: Hey, that page is out of date -- because another page is more current. Follow the link at the top of this page and see a whole different wiki page...

"Indeed. My good friend Istaqua and the chief of the north Muata are now resting in the lands of shadow, as well as their fighting men. They fought bravely against the enemy and were decimated, killing many of them in the process and in turn, keeping the non combatants safe in a hidden valley."

"We all, but our new friend, went to the lands of shadows on their behalf, such is our good will, and the lord of that place refused us more souls then one to return and that his Honow, Muatas' son."

"It is now that we travel toward those uncivilized lizards, in search of one of Al Mathir's nobles, that has fallen out of grace. We hope, he might share with us secrets on how to defend against if not defeat this empire that flies through the skies."

Jet ads one more warning to both leaders, "The Ahote of the north were given up by a traitor of their own tribe. He was a banished shaman that returned to them after his time of suffering had ended. It is believed by us that he played a roll in kidnaping their children, in order to make our colony, Bryn Baraz suspect. Our group, at that time, returned those children and spoiled his plot. It is sad I did not kill him when the opportunity was there, for it was (Insert name here) that led Al Mathir to the Ahote's great loss. He made a pact with them against the will of Muata and he escaped, when our band, killed the remaining lizards, which killed the cousins of the People of the Green."

Sorry, I can't remember the traitors name and I don't know if I have the right order of Ahote. I have no idea how far I need to go back to find it, so I will edit later and clean this up.

Dasan was the chief, Muata was his son. Dasan and Istaqa, the head shaman, chose their fate to remain with Gargul and Dasan asked Gargul to release Muata back to the living to lead the Ahote and rebuild the tribe.

Honaw was a warrior whom we met near the Ambush Drake den and told us about the missing children.
Vol 2, chp5, also found this:
"We will bring our dead to the sacred place and there they will be reclaimed by the spirits. They will not need these belongings," Honaw pointed to the arrows, quivers and totems. "Take them with our thanks, they may prove useful to you."

So we do have spare totems, ie. medicine bags. So Alexi gave one the spares away instead of his own. :)

"You do not believe us, undertandably. If I were told there was a mountain that tore its roots from the earth and floated up, whereain thousands of lizards lived and sped throught the skies like the clouds, I'd not believe it either.

"But we saw it, and we fought them. Do you have magic to read my memory? I'll lend it to you for you to see the carnage they brought upon the Ahote of the North and the people of Bryn Baraz. Over a pit of roasting bison I'll tell the whole story. And our little friend over there," pointing to Galin, "was a slave sent to work the newly acquired mine of Bryn Baraz. His size and ability to hide allowed him to escape the mines and was being chased out on the plains when we caught the persuing party and captured that flying wagon.

"But it is best to see for yourselves. Send an Eagle scout northward. Fly high, very high so as not to be seen. If they see you, fly away in a different direction, otherwise you will lead them right here.

Either way, he remains silent on that subject, allowing those involved the opportunity to share with them their past, as this group has done, since the newcomers have arrived.

DM Cayzle - Parley Is Over
Thursday March 10th, 2011 11:25:44 AM

Jet, Alexi, and Keela give more details about the catastrophe in the north, the slaughter of the Ahote warriors. Their matter-of-fact mastery of the tale is impressive, even to their fellow travelers, including the modest Zeph, who underestimates the challenges he himself has faced. Lehn and Galin let the others do the heavy lifting in the telling of deeds done and ruin revealed. Garret urges the eagles to send out a scout, but warns about the danger that even a high-flying scout would face.

Swiftwing makes an offer to Cha'tima. "I will offer you two brave eagles to carry your folk for one month. During that month, we will make two hunts of your herd, taking no more than five bison with each hunt. After that month we will meet again to see if we are both satisfied, and maybe swear oaths."

Cha'tima confers with his warriors, then returns with a grin. "Agreed!" he says. "But what of the danger in the north?"

"I will send a scout," says Swiftwing.

"Would your scout carry one of my people, who can guide your eagle to our cousins in the north, the better to confirm this tale of danger and disaster?"

"So long as your passenger can speak the common tongue, then that is fine."

The deal is struck, the parley ends, and the chief invites all to eat together this night. It falls out as Alexi had suggested, and a roasted bison, quickly captured, serves to feed all who are there. The humans make a camp, well guarded, and the tales and meal lasts well into the darkness, with eagles and humans meeting as comrades, if not friends. In fact, both the people of the green and the giant eagles seek out and cluster around party members, the eagles because they only speak common, and the humans, for news of the Ahote.

During the meal, Keela learns what there is to know about the lizards of the woods. She is warned that most of it is hearsay and second hand talk. She is warned to cross the river soon, since it deepens as it nears the wood. In fact, the directions to the reptilian tribe seem pretty clear. The lizards are described as human-sized, with little metal for weapons or goods. They are reported to have had dealings with a clan of dark-skinned elves who are new to the area -- it is an eagle who tells that tale, and says the elves and the lizards have found some way to make peace with the Forest. Also, the elves live nearer to the mountains, and farther from where you are right now -- if you follow a straight path, you will reach the lizards before the elves. Also, you hear rumors that some of the lizards perform evil deeds in secret ceremonies, that they use blood and sacrifices in their dark magic, and that the party would be better off steering clear, if they can do so.

OOC: Please feel free to add any other questions, discussions, or actions for tonight. Will you head off the next morning? Or stay a few days? Let's do all that fast ... I'd like to start a new scene on Monday.

He does the same for Swiftwing, and adds the warning, "Do not be decieved by the apparent frailty of their flying wagons. They have wizards that can burn the feathers off your tails in a pinch before you even get close. Not to mention the hail of arrows. So be careful."

Deep inside Alexi yearns for the opportunity to have the honor of being a passenger on one of those majestic birds! 'What would father say to that? I think that would finally do the trick to get him so see there is life worth living outside the Maild Fist!'

DM Cayzle - No Night For A Party
Friday March 11th, 2011 1:06:35 PM

The Festivities Are Restrained

Given that the human hunters have just been told of a vast massacre of their kinsfolk, there is no celebration during or after the feasting. You learn that it is a mark of pride among the people of the green to feel a call or vocation to travel north and win back the earth from the blight. On this night, as the humans recall their lost siblings who have joined the Ahote, there is singing and drum-playing, but the songs are mournful, funereal, and melancholic.

Garret spends his meal with the eagles, and finds that while polite in demeanor, the jokes and stories they tell in quiet somber voices are really very funny.

After seeing that the human hunters are in no mood for frivolity, Galin visits the eagles with Garret. He learns that they are sharp of eye and tongue, and although they are careful to speak softly and not to offend their human hosts, they are quick to make jokes at the two halflings' expense. Evidently, Galin and Garret remind them of rabbits. There is much talk of how tasty rabbits are, especially after you chase them around and snip at their ears and tails. So long as the halflings don't stomp off in a huff, the eagles make it clear that they enjoy your company.

Alexi shows his map to Cha'tima, and he nods, seeing as he knows the way himself. He asks that you keep your map safe, since the tale it tells could betray the Ahote should enemies obtain it. Alexi warns the eagles, and they seem to consider him seriously. Alexi also daydreams about flying on one of these eagles, but does and says nothing to help make his dreams come true. Alexi would like to dance, but there are no dances tonight.

Zeph wonders if maybe the lizards honor a minor cult god, or the Crying Woods itself. It also occurs to him that these could be rumors of witches. Maybe the price the lizards pay to live near the Woods is a blood price. Maybe these are witches allied with the Woods. Certainly, the Woods longs to kill all creatures with red blood who walk under its eaves. Zeph recalls that, like the patch of blighted land the party fought, the very earth can be sentient in the Wold, with its own agenda, alignment, and purposes. Without knowing more, of course, all Zeph can do is speculate.

Jet drinks a little more than somewhat, and casts a roving eye. It seems that the human hunters include both men and women, and Jet has seen no distinction of gender in who does what. No one seems to be of a mind for cavorting, although it may be that Jet finds comfort in the arms of someone who herself needs comforting, maybe one who has close kin among the Ahote.

Jet will aid them in their singing skills, remaining as but a bit of back ground music to the tribe that has lost their cousins.

Jet goes back and forth between camps, getting to know them all. He can't help but ask one of the giant eagles though.

"Look here my friends. I have a spell I would like to use, in a spectacular manner. Is one of you willing to fly me as high above this camp as possible, so that I might be able to jump off from that height?"

His sobriety in question, maybe he needed to be drunk in order to really test his Feather Fall spell!

Garret smiles and laughs with the eagles, not unaccustomed to being the brunt of short jokes. He tries to join in, as much as he is able. He tries to make friends, but is still in awe of the great creatures.

When drunken Jet joins in and talks about being dropped from a height, Garret laughs out loud. "As high as possible? Jet, do you even realize how high these magnificent creatures can fly?"

Alexi is decidedly disappointed that there is no dancing, but understanding. So he spends his time talking to the warriors and learning what dangerous creatures inhabit this corner of the plains. He asks if they've seen any Ambush Drakes and describes them, showing his necklace.

Not one good at the consolation stuff, Alexi enjoys the roasted bison but does not interject himself in the ceremonial singing. Of course, he doesn't understand the language either, although he hums the songs as he moves on.

Although a ride on the back of a giant eagle would be the ride of a lifetime, he does not feel it is the right time for it. At some time later, when things are more settled, or if they join in a war against the lizards, then maybe.

Looking up at the stars, Alexi ponders where the year went. It seems just yesterday they were loading the caravan upon the turtle barges of Floating City. How far they'd come!

Highlight to display spoiler: {ooc: LOL!! Once again impulsive. A few hours over a week. I forget things.}

Jet then stops to think for a moment, "Hold on, I forgot my spells." He searches his pockets. "Oh, that's right, I left them with Avis today when I flew her. I guess we can do this again some other day."

He bows once again, staggers over to the cargo hold of Avis, and with legs hanging out, falls backward.

He sings himself to sleep after around fifteen minutes.

After wracking his brain, Zeph speaks with Swiftwing and Cha'tima, "The Blight in these lands is certainly a curse and we would do well to take actions to stop it. I feel that both our causes may be served by figuring out exactly what the Lizards in the Crying Woods are up to. We should set out immediately in the morning."

Zeph is focused and spends his time listening to stories and trying to piece together the puzzle before him...

and studying his spellbook.

Keela
Monday March 14th, 2011 1:02:17 AM

Keela mostly watches and listens. When Jet announces his plan to test his Feather Fall spell, she scrambles to her feet, ready to assist with her own Feather Fall, just in case Jet's fails.

She breathes a quiet sigh of relief when he decides against it.

Garret watches with relief when Jet passes out half-in, half-out of Avis. He hangs around with the eagles, talking with them late into the night. He also asks, after Jet has passed out, about possible larger settlements in the area that might contain things like an inn or tavern.

In the morning, Garret bids a grandiose goodbye to the eagles as the group prepares to continue their journey.

Jet gets sloshed, and he comes up with an idea to put his feather fall spell to an ultimate test. Luckily, he recalls soon enough that he has no spells available, and takes instead to slumber. The eagles regard him with amused confusion.

Garret enjoys the company of the feathered fliers, He does his best to keep up, but their banter is as fast as their movement through the air. Plus Garret is a little shy. He does ask about the nearest outpost of civilization. The dark elves in the north of the Crying Wood have a settlement, maybe a city, maybe taverns and such places. Other than that, the nearest actual city is surely The Float.

Alexi's thoughts turn from celebration to cerebration, and he ponders the dangers of the area. In this, the humans have a lot to say, and Alexi learns, with the help of one or two humans who know passable Common, much that may come in handy. Alexi, you gain a +1 on your next two survival or knowledge checks in this geographic area focused on dangers; this bonus expires after two uses or when a new DM comes into the game.

Zeph is eager to start adventuring, and studies his magic.

Keela is ready to use her own magic to save Jet, but fortunately that necessity does not come to pass.

OOC: Everyone please accept 5,000 xp and a hero point for the last two scenes, except for Lehn, sorry, who was only here for the last scene. Lehn, please accept 2,500 xp. Jet, also please take an extra 250 xp RP award for your success in eagle-human negotiations. Tomorrow we will leave these hunters and head to the lizard villages.

As Garret prepares to leave and watches everyone else pack up their mountains of gear, he decides not to mention to Jet that there is not going to be any time soon that they will be able to visit his favored place, a civilized tavern. He idly thinks, "Maybe we'll magically teleport when we're done and can drop ourselves right in the middle of a tavern..."

Jet wakes up with a slighthangover, but after toasting to all the gods, as is his ritual, he feels fresh as a daisy, ready to begin the day with prayers.

Jet makes sure he uses his Diplomacy in the morning, to make sure he didn't say anything last night he can't take back today.

The the giant eagles, "Ah my friends. I hope that someday, I can befriend one of your bravest fliers and together go into battle to defeat the enemies of good! If ever, any of you have a sense of adventure, please look me up and we will make epic drapas together."

To the native humans, "It was a pleasure to meet you all. I am sure your cousins in the north will be happy that you have not been effected by their enemies yet. Keep each others strong and consider us a friend to your people. If we can help and you can get us word, we will come."

As everyone is getting packed up, Jet remembers something about last night and looks toward the wizard, "Keela. HEY KEELA?" He gets her attention, "Was that a bit of concern I saw you with last night when I wanted to go for a ride? You like me don't you? For all the dirty looks and disgusted faces I have seen from you, as a reaction to a word or deed from me, you still like me!"

He laughs out loud and gives her a hug, careful to not stab her with an armor spike. "I like you too, even if I have a rough way of showing it."

Diplomacy: 25

"Nay, nay my friend!" Two of the six best parts of a tavern, is the entrance and the exit. Walking in and letting all eyes rest on you. Women want you and men fear you. The look in their eyes gives away their true feelings. Yes, we must walk in! Just popping in leaves no pageantry, no grandeur. If someone is not looking up from their cups, they won't even know you have arrived."

Alas, Jet gets a hug from Keela, or rather, Jet hugs Keela. 'Heh, not the same thing.' Alexi smiles.
With serious business at hand, though, Alexi finds Cha'tima and opens up his map again.

"Ok, this map only shows where I've been and I've never been to the Crying Woods. Can you give me some idea of the border of these strange woods, to the best of your knowledge?"
Before he leaves Cha'tima, he holds out his Ahote medicine bag. "This tottem bag was given to us by the Ahote of the North as a sign of our friendship so that if we encountered other Ahote, they would know we were friends. Do you have a similar such thing that you could give us in case we encounter other Green People tribes?"
OOC: if they don't have such a thing, then Alexi will ask to purchase a blanket with one of their distinctive tribal patterns so he'll have something to show that at least they friendly enough for trade.

After that he takes the map to Swiftwing and asks, "As best you can guess, about where on this map were those forest lizards?"

Alexi then helps get the horses ready and with his stuff packed, is ready to go.
