DM Cayzle - Directions and Declarations Tuesday March 15th, 2011 7:16:41 PM
Garret is discreet, Jet is demonstrative, Alexi is acquisitive and inquisitive, and Keela is retiring. All four of you get an extra 100 xp role play award! And Alexi can have a blanket, offered as a gift.
Cha'tima and Swiftwing make sure the group is headed in the correct direction. The Crying Woods are to the south and southwest of here, you learn. The nearest lizardfolk village is at the edge of the Crying Woods, about 75 miles south of here. You are told not to cross the great river.
But the greater warning comes from the human chief. "Those lizards do not like humans or those like them," he warns. "They will attack a lone scout or small group on sight. Do not expect a friendly sit-together, as we have had here. They will see you as an enemy. Perhaps you should give some thought as to your approach, what your goals are in visiting them, and how you will accomplish those goals."
It is morning as you set out. Are you towing Avis, or flying? If flying, who is the pilot? Any other notes or commands as you travel? Casters, choose your spells.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Tuesday March 15th, 2011 7:22:13 PM
Jet is disappointed that a giant eagle didn't take him up on his offer, but he wasn't going to talk one into doing it, even though he is convinced he could have. Jet walks up to Alexi as he is getting his gear on his horse and whispers in his ear, 'Maybe you should try that sometime?" He laughs and walks over to Avis.
"Zeph, you want to fly?"
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Tuesday March 15th, 2011 8:15:47 PM
Garret watches as Avis takes to flight again as the group heads south. As they walk, he says, "So, we're going to talk to someone who is the possible leader of a group of lizards who will likely attack and try and kill us on sight. If we defend ourselves, we're likely to anger their leader and not get to talk to it. But if we don't, we die. This doesn't sound like it's going to be a very successful mission at the moment."
He calls up to Avis, "Be sure and keep a close eye out for lizard patrols!"
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Wednesday March 16th, 2011 1:54:31 AM
"Don't forget, we have our hats."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Wednesday March 16th, 2011 11:54:12 AM
Garret considers Jet's response. He talks to himself, but out loud, "Sure, we have those hats, but we're not completely sure what these things look like. And we can only fool them a little, and for a short time, I'm sure. I wonder if we should try and sneak up on them to get a good look before we head in. Maybe that would work, trying to completely sneak around until we actually find the fellow we're looking for...assuming we will recognize him when we see him..."
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Wednesday March 16th, 2011 1:48:28 PM
Jet shakes his head, "It seems to me the answer is obvious, but since it makes so much sense, I doubt we will do it. Let's just make a bunch of fliers, written in Al Mathir and in common and drop them over the land of the lizard people. We can wait about a week for the response. If they do respond, no blood shed and we will meet this outcast without bloodshed on either side. If they don't respond, then the only thing wasted is time."
He goes on to say, "I doubt the prophesy would have been given to us, if this was an impossible task, so we have to assume, this creature will want to help us, first."
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) d20+14=21 Wednesday March 16th, 2011 10:31:39 PM
Zeph looks at Avis and considers the goals of this journey, "We need to find out who this outcast person is from the prophesy. So information is our goal. Chances are we will first encounter a scouting party if we do not intend to travel discreetly, which is hard with Avis. Tell ya what, lets disguise up as lizards of Al Mathir and head in that direction, ready for a fight, but intending on parley. Maybe if they think were lizards, they will offer words before striking. Have a message spell prepped as I can't cast when flying."
And then Zeph taps his Hat of Disguise on his head and looks his best rendition of a scaly Thrul. (Disguise =21). And he hops into Avis, ready to see who wants to join him in the sky.
Before taking off, Zeph casts Level 0 Message to 5 targets: Keela, Jet, Garret, Galin, Alexi. For 50minutes with a range of 150feet. Caster level 5 ya know.
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Wednesday March 16th, 2011 11:19:48 PM
OOC: we have at least 75 miles to go, so it will be a while before we get there.
IC: Alexi answers Jet with a sly smile, "I'll take a bath first".
The Hats of Disguise are a good idea, Alexi concurs, but not everyone has one. "Well need to have a story for Galin, since he doesn't have a hat. On the other hand, anyone here know Al Mathir enough to write messages to drop on the lizard village? Er, do we have parchment for such an endeavor?"
"We need to see if we can capture one."
Lehn Dorr Wednesday March 16th, 2011 11:49:33 PM
Lehn, who had been silent through the discussion and, indeed through the night, spoke up. "I can assume a form of an accompanying creature if you are all insistent on disguising yourself. I, unfortunately, do not have a fancy cap." He seemed amused, staring at Zeph's hat.
Keela Thursday March 17th, 2011 1:23:11 AM
Keela looks at the horses. "Did we ever see any of the lizard-folk riding horses?" she asks, trying to remember.
Other than that detail, she is willing to go with the disguise plan.
[OOC: No time to re-do spells, so we'll assume they're the same.]
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Thursday March 17th, 2011 3:05:57 AM
"Nope, that is likely what I bluffed our way past when I motioned for the craft to land. The leader was asking where we got the horses. That is a guess of course, but I would recommend, if we intend on trying to befriend somebody, we don't walk into their home with deception. Remember, they are at peace with the land and we are not, as has been seen. We will not be taking on just lizards, but the land, together."
He shakes his head in laughs, fully pepared to go off and do battle, just for the fun of it.
"As for the Comprehend Languages spell, i would have to be touching them to understand them and not many creatures, even friendly, would allow that to happen."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Thursday March 17th, 2011 1:36:55 PM
Garret replies, "I don't like the deception, as Jet has pointed out, as we're visitors. At the same time, if these lizards are so violent that they'll attack us on sight, I don't think we have any other better options."
"Dropping fliers? Who knows if these lizards can even read?"
DM Cayzle - Excuses! Thursday March 17th, 2011 5:35:53 PM
Sorry everyone for the delay. My mother in law is in the hospital for a hip replacement. I did not think it would affect my posting, but ha!
Post to come tonight for sure! And then another tomorrow night, for at least four this week.
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Thursday March 17th, 2011 8:12:17 PM
"Well, as far as we know, these lizards have nothing to do with Al Mathir. The one we seek probably took refuge with the closest relatives he could find, however remote. If they've never seen lizards riding horses, so what? How far in the Wold have they traveled? Heh."
Alexi is undecided at the moment on the strategy to take, Deception or Truth. "Truth is, we know nothing of them except they worship something they sacrifice to, and that could be demons, evil tree entities, forest elementals, you name it. Best have your Detect Evil spell handy, Jet."
"On the other hand," Alexi says after a pause, "our first contact could be with Avis and disguised as Thuls. At least the one we seek would recognize that. Once our purpose is established we can bring forth the horses. Hmm... might be a good idea to have something to trade with the lizards too. Let's look out for some game to hunt. Several hundred pounds of cured deer or bison or something else would help."
DM Cayzle - Contact and News and a Parting Thursday March 17th, 2011 11:37:33 PM
The party begins to travel toward the Crying Wood. Even at speed, it will take several days. There is much discussion about strategy and how best to approach the lizard folk.
Midday of the first day, you are contacted by Katarina, the wizard from Plateau City who is your contact with the mining consortium who has hired you. She asks for an update and a report. This is an opportunity for you to use the Catacombs, by the way.
However, she has urgent news. One of the mining company owners, who happens to be Charek's father, has taken ill, and is askling to meet his son before he loses his chance to do so. Katarina will actually teleport to you -- because of the distance involved, it is a two-step teleport. But the matter is urgent, and Charek agrees to it.
[OOC: Charek is Kent's PC. Kent has been overwhelmed by real life issues and had to step away from the game. This is his honorable exit, and it leaves the door open for his return, whenever he is ready ... hopefully soon.]
You are welcome to bounce ideas for your upcoming encounter off Katarina, seeing as she urgently wants you to succeed.

"But, that means, we can leave this area?"
Jet, is an opportunistic ass, but, if a mage can teleport here, she can take others away, right?
Jet longs for a one, three or even five day delay in the tedium of the wild.
If, if only, he could savor sitting in front of an open draft of ale as it pours ever so frothily over the rim of a pint and his lips.
"Charek my friend. I wish you and your clan the best in this situation. Although, the clan life is long, it is never easy in the end."
Shrugging his shoulders, jet is happy, the loss of his mother was the last attachment he has had with the past. He absentmindedly pulls the leather cord around his left wrist, so as to encircle his large bines and muscles, controlling his hand.
Lehn Dorr Friday March 18th, 2011 11:16:47 AM
Lehn glanced around at the rest of the group. "Mining company? I thought you all were adventurers." Now understanding a bit more of the group's intentions, he seemed a bit more wary. Adventurers were one thing. They generally travelled for the sake of experience and the destruction of dangerous things but he has heard stories of those who worked to dangerous and sometimes evil ends for the sake of progress and 'opportunity'.

When Lehn mentions the mining company, Garret replies, "Well, sort of. This started out as a group hired by a mining company to investigate some problems with a mine. It's become, well, a bit more than that, I'd say. I don't think anyone here, at this point, is doing what we're doing for the money. We're not heartless mercenaries, if that's what you're worried about."

OOC: back when we met the Green People: (Alexi joins the conversation, finally. He introduces himself as a humble ex-resident of the mining village of Bryn Baraz. Now occupied by the lizardmen from the floating mountain.)
I presume Lehn just missed it in the confusion.
IC: As there is plenty of time, and Alexi likes good stories, Alexi fills Lehn in on the History of Bryn Baraz, as short as it was. - Stonehelm Mining company found mithril in the mountains to the north. - To support the miners, the company hired farmers, crafstmen, and adventurers. Famers produce the food, crafstmen support the farmers and miners, the adventurers provide security. - After the village was well underway, the lizards came and after a hard fight, took the village. The villagers hid in the mine. - The villagers were evacuated through teleport devices but a group of volunteers were hired to stay and see about discovering as much as possible about the lizards. - Jet, Keela, and Alexi are the only ones left from the original group of Security Officers hired from Floating City to help protect Bryn Baraz.
This story, of course took several hours, with many side stories, including Ma Belle's place, Jet's favorite haunt.
DM Cayzle - Last Chance .... Friday March 18th, 2011 10:57:26 PM
Katarina is pleased that you are all so confident. "No need for trade at the Catacombs? No need to get my input on your flawless plan? You have acquired a native guide? Excellent! Any other need for conversation?"
OOC: She is communicating via Message spell to everyone at once through a scrying device.
Then a minute later there is a POP of displaced air, and she calls Charek to come with her.
OOC to Lehn: I know I owe you an e-mail. Tomorrow for sure.
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) Saturday March 19th, 2011 8:23:37 PM
Zeph asks Katarina, "Hey, could you spot me a Handy Haversack? I forgot to request one last time when we got these nifty hats."
We have only had one battle since the Pathfinder update, which resulted in no money... so what would we need the catacombs for?
Then Zeph explains the plan to Katarina, "Following the prophecy, we are searching for the Lizards of the Crying woods, hoping that there is an outcast prince or something taking refuge. We are currently at an indecision whether we should approach the Crying Woods under the guise of Lizardfolk or not. One would arouse hostility, the other would result in mistrust. Keep in mind that our end goal is to find information about Al Mathir and perhaps strike a deal with anyone who also count themselves' as their enemies. We have already told the People of the Green and the local Eagles."

You have those four Eberyon's Tears.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Monday March 21st, 2011 2:41:53 PM
OOC: Hey, did we ever completely identify those tears? Garret can use them -- well, he can use one at a time at the moment. In fact, he's using one right now. But if one of those were better.. and in one more level he'll be able to use another one...
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Monday March 21st, 2011 4:50:01 PM
ooc: Jet can't use one unless he is grappling and there hasn't been a whole lot of chances for that, not having a bar to get into a fight in and all.
Keela Monday March 21st, 2011 7:50:14 PM
Keela listens quietly to Alexi's recapping of their adventures. She is pleased to be considered one of the team, but does feel compelled to clear up one point:
"Actually, Jet and Alexi are the only members left of the original security group," she says. "I was one of the settlers, but I got recruited."
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Monday March 21st, 2011 8:23:19 PM

IC: Alexi gives a friendly slap on Keela's shoulder, "What? Barely six days on the road you joined the Security Team. That's close enough for me. The only thing you missed out on were the giant weasels and kicking Mavitus' but back to Floating City. Ah Lollena..., oh well, Pliny is a good man."
OOC: ok, i know only Jet and Keela will know the referrence, I promise not to do the 'reminiscing' thing much. :}
IC: Alexi does ask Katarina, "Last time we met, I sent a message to my father through you, was there a reply?"
DM Cayzle - Katarina And The Woods Monday March 21st, 2011 10:45:49 PM
Zeph requests a Handy Haversack. Katarina will trade for one of the Tears. If Zeph asks her to "spot" him, she will take it out of future earnings (Please so note). Zeph mentions the options of deceit or not.
Jet requests and receives some nonmagical supplies. No problem, no cost. Anyone may replenish up to 100 gp worth of mundane gear.
Katrina tells Alexi that the message and belt have been sent. No answer so far.
She adds that she thinks you ought to find out more. Maybe some scouting. You have this flying craft. You have people trained in stealth. Otherwise, she complements you on your progress so far and is glad that you are doing so well.
"Your progress convinces me anew that you are the best possible team we could put on this task. Good luck and remember that your goal is to obtain the aid of the lizard named in the divination."
You send Charek off with her. You travel onwards, until you can tell from the air (via Avis or Lehn in a flying shape) that the Forest is ahead of you, an hour or two walk onward.
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) Tuesday March 22nd, 2011 1:30:09 AM
Zeph says, "Yeah. I totally forgot about those tears. I would gladly trade one if the group does not object?"
He would also like to request enough rations and such to last some time.
Then his mind is on the task at hand, "I volunteer to scout on the ground if Garret will accompany me. Perhaps Lehn as well? Jet, you wanna fly?"
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) d20+3=19 ; d20+8=18 ; Tuesday March 22nd, 2011 10:19:22 AM
Jet wants to take a few days to modify Avis so that the entire group can comfortably ride in it. "Maybe we can just leave the horses here for awhile, as we go and scout out the area with Avis"
Jet uses his Knowledge Engineering to make the plans: 19 Jet uses his Woodworking craft skill to create the new frame to fly properly, with more room: 18
ooc: How many days would this take DM? Perhaps by the time Jet is done, Swiftwing and Cha'time will have returned from the north?
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Tuesday March 22nd, 2011 10:45:47 AM
Alexi is not too concerned that his father had not replied. It was not a family habit to outwardly show such emotion, as slim as that might be.
Alexi request some trail rations and oats for the animals and makes sure each gets their fill. The grass has been sparse and their ribs are starting to show.
"We might as well get the remaining Tears identified now. It would be good for Garret to know what he's using when he wears one."
When approaching the woods, he says, "Well, Time of Decision has arrived. Oh glorious Leader, what do we do? Which approach do we take?"
Keela Tuesday March 22nd, 2011 12:15:14 PM
"I do think scouting is a good idea," Keela says, "although I'd better stay with the horses; I have no talent for stealth. I do have a Greater Invisibility spell prepared, though, if someone would like to use it."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Tuesday March 22nd, 2011 1:06:57 PM
Garret nods as Jet contemplates modifying Avis. "I'm not sure the magic would have the ability to carry all our weight, but we sure can try. Before we spend too much time making changes, maybe we could all just pile on one time and see if it can actually lift us up."
"As for the tears, I could just try them out one at a time to see what they do. And I have no problem with Zeph trading one in for more useful gear."
"I say we do some scouting, but we'll see the best method when we get a little closer. Perhaps sending Avis a good bit in front to do initial scouting so Avis can spot when we're close to the territory of those we seek. Then we can send in a scouting party to see what else can be learned before we approach. The stories of those to the north may be a little exaggerated."
Lehn Dorr Tuesday March 22nd, 2011 1:58:55 PM
Lehn nodded slowly, "I can accompany and scout in a flying form. It may save time and effort for me to do it if..." he glanced at the machine, dubious, "this thing cannot be made to fit more passengers."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Wednesday March 23rd, 2011 1:11:21 PM
Garret smiles when Lehn looks at Avis. "Good Lehn, let me introduce you." He leads Lehn over to the strange magical box and continues, "This is Avis. It's a flying, well, a flying box. We stole it. Or, I guess, more accurately, it's a spoil of war. This is just one of the devices that the lizards were using to attack from the air. It gave them quite an advantage. Often they would have troops in them, and the box could fly over, drop down, and release the attack troops. It was quite effective, though not so effective against our little group."
DM Cayzle - Mod Shop Wednesday March 23rd, 2011 3:10:22 PM
A few miles from the eaves of the Crying Wood, the party stops to take stock. Before heading into the twisted tangle and temperate jungle of the forest, it is time to make some modifications to Avis, your flying machine. Besides, if you do encounter hostiles, it might well be better to all be airborn rather than split between ground and sky.
First, a recap of Avis as she was originally constructed. Avis flies at 200 feet per round. It looks like a strange wooden birdlike machine, with a "body" and "head" and a pair of stubby "wings." Avis was designed to carry four humanoid passengers and a small humanoid pilot. The lower portion is a wood platform; the upper is canvas and wood ribs, with open gaps for windows. Those within gain the benefit of regular cover when attacked from below, and from concealment when attacked from the side or above.
The skeleton of the flying craft, the only actual magic part, is a triangle made of three steel bars, each an inch in diameter and ten feet long. In order to fly, the "pilot license," that is, the magical plaque worn around the pilot's neck, must be touching the apex of the front of the craft. There is a short crossbar under the pilot seat. At the rear, there is a propulsion mechanism, a kind of mini-blade barrier, a fan made of whirling blades of force, which is controlled by the concentration of the pilot.
Bolted onto this magical framework is a nonmagical structure, basically a wheel-less wooden wagon-bed with a rib and canvas cover, and with five seats. There is also a wooden structure that protects riders from accidentally touching the blades in operation; it seems wise to leave that part of the craft intact. This nonmagical structure, not including the blade-box, weighs about 300 lbs.
Jet spends a couple hours just making sure he understands how it works before starting to modify the craft, and Garret suggests making some reasonable tests as to its capacity. It turns out that the craft as designed carries about 900 lbs. Remove the nonmagical parts and it can carry 1,200 lbs.
Currently the party consists of Garret, Galin, Jet, Zeph, Alexi, Lehn, and Keela. You might want to total your base weights and gear weights to see how close you come to the max. Jet can certainly modify the wooden platform and cover to fit more seats, but adding seats adds weight You could decrease the weight by removing the cover, but that would leave you exposed to the elements. You could decrease the wight of the platform, possibly decreasing its structural integrity. You might want to make the pilot seat suitable for either a small person or a medium person, adding a little weight. Maybe you can think of some way to allow more pounds through cleverness or magic.
Jet's rolls are plenty good enough to make any of that happen. Just decide what mods you want to consider.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Wednesday March 23rd, 2011 5:19:36 PM
Jet alone weighs 320 pounds, without gear. He begins to wonder if it is such a good idea or not? "I think it might be easier if we don't just capture another one. Zeph could fly one and I the other."
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Wednesday March 23rd, 2011 5:28:51 PM
Oh, the one modification Jet really wants to make, is the cockpit.
"I need to be able to dance in order use my Versatile Performance ability. I'm sure I don't have to move around much to shake my booty, but it would be more comfortable for anyone else not small using it also."
"Bad news is, the modification would cause any surprise on our enemies to be null and void. They would recognize it as not one of their's"

"I wouldn't call them abondoned if we intend to come back for them. It doesn't look like we can all fly in Avis anyway."
"Maybe it is time we begin a plan on how to bring down one of the big red balls. Then we won't have any issues with horses or even taurs, if next, one of them join us."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Thursday March 24th, 2011 12:11:37 PM
"Okay, as we approach, let's keep Avis flying high and far in front of us. We need that ship out there to do some scouting long before we get there. Based on what Avis can spot, we can make additional plans. We'll keep on alert here on the ground, but if Avis flies out far enough, the group in Avis will spot something long before we get there. So stay high, and stay safe."
DM Cayzle - Extra Thursday March 24th, 2011 3:12:38 PM
OOC: Just to clarify -- the only modification you are making is to alter the seat to fit both small and medium pilots?
Also, you don't have to dance in place to pilot, Jet. Rather, your innate knowledge of grace, balance, and movement allow you to pilot the vessel with the inspired knowledge you gain from dancing expertise. Otherwise it is just silly.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Thursday March 24th, 2011 4:37:19 PM
OOC: I think it would be a lot more fun to imagine that Jet has to keep dancing, continuously, to keep Avis in flight...
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Thursday March 24th, 2011 4:51:58 PM I'm cool with silly. He is a bard after all, entertainment is his business. If everyone else is cool with it, Jet will make the adjustments.
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) d20+5=21 ; Thursday March 24th, 2011 9:53:09 PM
Zeph does what he can to assist Jet in the destruction and recreation of the cockpit, since it is likely he may be flying this device. He will try to make the seat comfortable and maybe install a seatbelt kind of thing to prevent being dismounted and the like. Lucky he was a tanner's foster child for a time in his youth, so fitting some leather straps from horse saddle might not be too hard.
(Untrained craft check =21 to assist)
Zeph says, "I must admit, the chance of aerial combat excites me. And, I think Scorching Rays and a hail of arrows are the cure for any big red balloons we may come across. Let's go ahead and expand the cargo and see if we can fit everyone. And let's trade some more of these gems for some handy haversacks to reduce our weight."
(OOC: As far as I can calculate without getting into it too much, Zeph is about 130weight+65lbs of equipment = 195 without a handy haversack. With one, he can reduce the gear to the 5lbs a haversack weighs.)
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Thursday March 24th, 2011 10:34:39 PM
OOC: last calculations has Alexi weighing 154lbs, but he's probably lost weight, since that weigh was at Game Start time. His equipment weighs 82lbs, putting him at 236lbs, but I'll check again this weekend.
IC: "I like the idea of having the enemy think they've got an easy target and then suddenly be hit from above when Avis swoops in from the sun."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Friday March 25th, 2011 1:53:38 PM
Garret nods to Alexi and replies, "Oh yes, that would be a good thing. But we've got to first use Avis to scout ahead so we know what we're getting into here. If it stays high enough, I don't think we'll alert them to anything."
DM Cayzle - The View From The Pilot Seat d100=19 ; d20+10=11 ; Friday March 25th, 2011 5:00:49 PM
Jet takes only a day to make the modifications needed to accommodate a medium pilot, and then Avis is ready to go -- and such a minor modification is not really all that noticeable from outside the craft. Who wants to try her out? A test flight after the modifications are made demonstrate that the craft remains flightworthy, and moreover, any enjoying the flight should make a Perception check. If you roll an 11 or better, you notice ... Highlight to display spoiler: {That halfway between your camp and the forest, three medium humanoids are crouching by a waterhole, spears ready, maybe fishing.}
Nonetheless, the consensus seems to be that the party will not all pile into Avis. Clowns in a funny car you are not. And neither are the horses!
OOC to Zeph: I'm assuming you made the tear-for-haversack trade.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Friday March 25th, 2011 7:53:10 PM
"I would love to fly her, but we have Keela as a wizard and we could use all the divine spells possible, especially if we need healing, so it is my suggestion that Zeph fly the craft and I ride in it also. If something happens to it, I can at least cast feather fall on us each to save us."
Then Jet looks over at the female wizard with the low self esteem, "Keela would like the chance?"

DM Cayzle - Three Fishers Far Off Monday March 28th, 2011 7:56:51 AM
[OOC: Trying to make this a five-DM-post week, I say let's start this thing off with a Monday morning post.]
You have spotted three people, and now that you see them more clearly, they are lizard-kin of some kind. They are fishing with spears in a small pond, but it would seem that they are as good at hiding from fish as from you, seeing as they have not caught any.
Note. though, that you are lucky (or skilled, given your rolls) to have seen that much. They are a mile or two away, and you saw them from the air.
Actions?
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Monday March 28th, 2011 9:28:42 AM
OOC: Man! Who needs binoculars when you can roll a N20 on spot? HA!
IC: "Hey guys, if we were invisible, and one of us talked to them in a deep voice, d'you think they'd think their god is talking to them from above? Like say 'Go fish on the other side of the pond and you'll catch something?' Hahahahahaha!"
Alexi has a hard time keeping a straight face and finally breaks out in a laugh.
"Or, better still, cast a Create Fish spell and while invisible, drop them in their lap! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) d20+5=12 ; d20+15=30 ; Monday March 28th, 2011 10:37:15 AM
ooc: Never mind the first roll. After reading the Linguistics skill, he can only read writting, not write in a different language. My bad.
"Zeph, I think the best thing for us to do, is send in a negotiator. It is the only way we can get our message across."
Jet pulls his beautiful and trusted companion Adrean and hands it to Alexi, "If anything happens to her, everytime I see you with a missile weapon, I will break it!"
With that, Jet jumps out of the aircraft to land delicately on the ground after he casts his feather fall spell. His hands in the air, not pulling any of his other weapons and surrendering to the creatures, hopefully before they think to attack him.
Keela Monday March 28th, 2011 10:37:41 AM
"The other lizard-folk believed in negotiating from a position of strength," Keela says. "I wonder if these feel the same way."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] d20+16=29 ; Monday March 28th, 2011 11:22:36 AM
Garret watches as Jet modifies the craft and looks around as Jet, Keela, and Zeph fly ahead of the group. As the group heads forward, Garret looks around and watches carefully, not confident that those in the flying craft will see everything that might be unfriendly to the group. He does keep looking up, half-expecting to see a giant island city appear to attack Avis.
After a short time, he spots the craft dip a little a good ways in front of the group. Then he sees the craft tilt a bit as Jet leaps from the craft. Garret is glad to see Jet slowly falling through the air and not plummeting to the ground like a rock. He says to the others (not in Avis), "Looks like Jet found himself something. We better move along to catch up and see what he's found!"
With that, Garret takes off at a run in the direction he saw Jet jump.
OOC: This post is based on assumptions I made, so forgive me if I apply an action to you that was not meant. Just moving things along... :)
Also, I'm assuming that the location where Jet has jumped is still a long distance from the group and that there's trees and other cover so that it's not immediately obvious to the lizards that Garret is running towards them. If it's all grassland and those on the ground can see the lizards at the distance, Garret will continue just walking, keeping them all in sight.
Perception, just for fun, and to spot Jet jumping: 29
Galin Burfoot HP 74/74 AC 27 Monday March 28th, 2011 1:41:45 PM
Galin steams to wake from his day dreaming to see what is going on ... He will wait quietly as see what happens
OOC thanks all for the patience with my down time
DM Cayzle - Extra Monday March 28th, 2011 2:17:50 PM
Please do declare if you were in Avis when the lizard folk were spotted or not. Also note that before anyone could jump out and talk with them, you would have to travel a mile or so to get above them. In that time you might well be spotted. Just saying in case anyone wants to adjust their actions.
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Monday March 28th, 2011 2:59:32 PM
OOC: I assumed Alexi was in Avis, as stated earlier: Alexi knows that he'll get little chance to fly in Avis, so he volunteers to ride while it is being tested.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Monday March 28th, 2011 3:47:33 PM
"Well, we don't want them to be afraid of Avis, so I will get out and approch them on foot without weapons drawn. If they run away I can likely track them. I can also cast a message spell to let Garret know how things are going. If things get rough, I can likely out run them on foot."
Jet jumps out about a mile or so from the lizard men and approch them in a friendly manner. Singing and dancing.
ooc: Holding off on the rolls until Jet gets closer, in case something else happens before he gets there.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Tuesday March 29th, 2011 11:25:20 AM
OOC: So I'm picturing that Avis went scouting ahead about a mile from the main group, with Jet, Zeph, Alexi, and Keela. At a mile away, they spotted the lizards another mile away. At that point, Jet jumped down to approach the lizards on foot. The others are still a mile back, but Avis continues to fly overhead, so they can coordinate what's going on and communicate back to the rest of the group any results.
Make sense?
DM Cayzle - Extra Tuesday March 29th, 2011 12:39:15 PM
Garret, that is exactly my take as well, except that a land-based person could say they were following underneath, maybe with a feather fall readied.
DM Cayzle - Encounter Tuesday March 29th, 2011 4:36:03 PM
Alexi jokes as he rides in the flying craft with Jet ... and Zeph? ... and Keela??
The DM assumes that Zeph is piloting.
Jet resolves to make diplomatic contact, makes a dramatic exit, and then approaches the lizard-folk.
Keela wonders about the right approach.
Seeing Jet disembark from Avis, Garet and other landbound folk -- Galin and Lehn? -- come a-rushing to see what is happening.
Jet is not immediately attacked. For one thing, the reptilians' spears have a limited range. For another, Jet is just so darned entertaining! The bard's friendly words -- or at least his demeanor and tone -- work wonders. He is not attacked as he approaches. On the other hand, as they stand to greet him, he realizes that they do not speak common.
If you speak Draconic, Please Highlight to display spoiler: { One of them says in Draconic, "Who are you and why have you come to our hunting grounds?"}
OOC: Galin, welcome back!
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) d20=6 ; Tuesday March 29th, 2011 6:09:09 PM
Jet does not speak Draconic, but he is beginning to think he needs to learn it.
He will attempt to get across through some measure, that he can understand them by touching them, after he casts a spell. If they don't freak out, he will attempt to do so and understand what they are saying.
Generic roll. I don't know if I need a Bluff or a Diplomacy here.
Galin Burfoot HP 74/74 AC 27 Tuesday March 29th, 2011 6:20:45 PM
Galin will hurry back toward the where Jet is or was

Zeph is pleased to fly avis for the party's scouting and first-encounter mission.
He swoops in to drop off Jet in a fashionable manner, and then quickly ascends to keep a watchful eye (perception =14... second naty 1 on that in 2 rounds).
Diplomacy is always a good option....
(OOC: Draconic? *Facepalm* I know it)
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Tuesday March 29th, 2011 9:05:37 PM
Alexi watches aprehensively. Jet was not known for his diplomatic successes.
Lehn Dorr Wednesday March 30th, 2011 10:10:07 AM
OOC: Sorry for my absence, I've been sick these past few days.
Given all of the... diplomacy the group as a whole displayed while handling the situation between the eagles and the People, Lehn really didn't have too much assurance on a wholly positive result. Still, there hadn't been an all-out brawl... So he waited to see just what sort of trouble might result from the appearance of the lizardfolk.
Keela Wednesday March 30th, 2011 3:01:28 PM
From the ground, Keela watches as Avis puts on a burst of speed, then Jet jumps out. "This can't be good," she says, and hurries the ground group to try to catch up.
[Keela is not in Avis. The last thing she said on the subject was that she was staying with the horses. If the group needs her in Avis, that's fine, but I'm going to need a stronger argument than "I assume Keela is in Avis."]
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Wednesday March 30th, 2011 3:28:24 PM
Garret leads Keela, Lehn, and Galin in heading towards where he saw Jet fall. If possible, he'll stay out of direct sight -- in trees, bushes, etc. If it's all open fields, then he'll just move at a fast walk to catch up, hoping the lizards don't just start attacking (if he can even see the lizards yet).
DM Cayzle - Run Away! Thursday March 31st, 2011 7:30:00 AM
Jet's diplomacy, dealing with wary strangers with whom he does not share a language, will not suffice. The lizards clearly do not want Jet to touch them. If Jet chooses to trick them, he can sneak close distract, and touch (a bluff check, followed by a touch attack sounds about right to me).
If Jet does so, and then immediately backs off, the lizards will stand puzzled at first, then angry.
Either way, as Zeph pilots the magic flying craft overhead, and as Garret, Galin, Keela, and Lehn approach, the lizards clearly decide that discretion is the better part of valor. If Jet has gotten a comp lang touch in, then he hears one say to the others, "We have to get back to warn the chief!"
Then all three turn tail (literally) and flee.
Are you all willing to let them go? If not, what will you do?
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Thursday March 31st, 2011 10:27:10 AM
No, no, Jet will not touch them, especially if they don't want him to. He is a priest that ensures freedom and not just for humans, dwarfs, elves or halflings but for all creatures.
Instead, he will continue to befriend them, by pulling a wine skin, taking a big long drink and passing it to the lizard closest to him. Then, he reaches into his pack and pulls out some jerky and cheese, to see if they like that.
Eventually, they will run off and Jet lets them. He is confident, the word of generous tresspassers will reach their leader and they may have a more prepared welcoming committe.
Lehn Dorr Thursday March 31st, 2011 11:43:54 AM
"Shall I follow?" Lehn asked, turning to Garret, his fingers curling into claws and his face taking on distinctive hawk-like features. "I will not be detected and can provide specific information."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Thursday March 31st, 2011 2:11:21 PM
Garret makes a quick decision and tells Lehn, "Yes, go quickly. Do not be seen!"
Keela Thursday March 31st, 2011 3:03:48 PM
If Keela was close enough to hear the remark (she speaks Draconic), she says to the others, "They're going to go warn their chief. Should we give them time, or follow immediately?"
Galin Burfoot HP 74/74 AC 27 Thursday March 31st, 2011 7:42:49 PM
Not sure at what to do at this point Galin doubles back and waits with Garrett for instructions,
OOC Galin still having trouble with his new found freedoms, hence the indecision and solitude
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Thursday March 31st, 2011 8:59:51 PM
Alexi, up in Avis, deduces after a few moments that Jet's diplomacy didn't work, but at least it didn't cause them to attack, like with the Ratmen of Bryn Baraz.
Watching them leave (OOC: assuming they are), Alexi wishes he had one of those nets Fatine used to carry around. That would have been a good way to catch one.
Alexi waits for Avis to settle low enough to snatch Jet back up and Alexi leans over and stretches out his arm.
"Hop back aboard. Not all is lost. At least you got to try out your Feather Fall spell," he says with a grin.
Lehn Dorr d20+4=13 ; Friday April 1st, 2011 2:57:08 AM

Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) Friday April 1st, 2011 3:09:52 AM
Zeph decides to pilot the craft to follow behind Lehn a ways, trying to keep an eye on the lizard folk as they run, but keeps a wary distance.
DM Cayzle - In Hot Covert Pursuit Friday April 1st, 2011 8:01:37 AM
Jet does his best to make a good nonverbal impression, and when his friends run up, he does not follow the lizardfolk who find the appearance of this many adventurers a little more than somewhat disconcerting.
Keela relates what the lizards say as they run off.
Lehn consults quickly with Garret, and with the halfling's nod, assumes avian form and takes to the air, flying high and naturally, following the lizardfolk without seeming anything other than a bird.
Zeph decides to follow. Your DM assumes that you wait until the lizard folk will not know you are doing so? Do you choose to follow low to the ground or high up? The lower you go, the closer you can get ... although in the grasslands, you have to fly low indeeed to avoid detection. You could hover ten feet off the ground and several hundred feet back, and you think you will be unseen. It is easy to follow the high-flying bird, though. Does anyone else hop on the flying craft, if Zeph hovers low enough to do so?
Alexi expects Zeph to come low for boarders, and expects Jet will hop on. He plans to help Jet board ... is Alexi boarding too, given the chance?
Galin hangs back. He sees that there is a need to help handle the horses coming behind -- perhaps he will lend a hand with them, or alert the party that they cannot ignore their four-legged friends.
The eagle watches the lizardfolk return to their homes. They live a couple miles off, in a small stand of trees not far from the Forest itself. As he approaches, he can feel the malevolence of the Crying Woods -- it is a magical forest, more than half awake, and hostile to all animals, people, and creatures that have blood in their veins instead of sap.
The Lizardfolk village, from what he can see, is a collection of about 20 huts build among the trees. He notes that there are no fires burning anywhere.
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) Friday April 1st, 2011 9:22:27 AM

Jet just waits where they were fishing and waits for them to come to him.
Lehn Dorr Friday April 1st, 2011 11:31:21 AM
Lehn drifted lazily above the village for a short time, watching for any sort of activity or movement. Usually when a small party up and ran off to their village, the village massed to get ready for either a fight or cautious curiosity. He waited to see the result of the scouts' return.

Jet laughs out loud, not caring if the halfing got the joke or not.
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Friday April 1st, 2011 8:55:23 PM
Alexi decides to leave Avis and go on the ground with Lobo. This leaves room for someone else in Avis.
"If there's going to be combat, I'd rather be on the ground," he says as he hands Adrean back to Jet.
Alexi feels so much more comfortable in the saddle. Lance ready, he's raring to meet the forest lizardmen.
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) Sunday April 3rd, 2011 9:43:07 PM
Zeph keeps the craft low to the ground and away from sight, allowing anyone to get off or on as they please until given further notice. He hopes Jet or Keela remembers to cast a message spell in case he needs to fly to the site asap.
Zeph looks in the back of the craft, "Who's all with me?"

DM Cayzle - The Lizard Village Monday April 4th, 2011 10:14:05 AM
Lehn lazily circles overhead, watching the response from the village. As a druid, he can sense the malevolent spirit of the woods nearby. The forest rejects him and his kind. Animals and birds are not welcome here.
Zeph pauses to pick up anyone who wishes to join him. Not Jet, nor Garret, nor Galin, and Alexi actually gets out of the aircraft. Keela? Zeph, will you fly of alone, or wait for Lehn's report?
Recall that a Message spell is still limited to a set range, outside which it fails to function.
Lehn sees an increase in activity in the lizardfolk village. There is some rushing about with weapons, some gathering of children and old folks. And in a few minutes all the inhabitants are shut up tight in their houses. With an eagle eye Lehn sees that a careful watch is being kept from behind shutters mostly shut.
Keela Monday April 4th, 2011 12:35:52 PM
Keela will go up in Avis, seeing that the horses are in safe hands with Alexi. She has never been up in the flyer before, so she spends the first few minutes clinging desperately to the framework and hyperventilating.
When she grows a little calmer, she looks around her. The lizard-folk have gone back inside.
"They don't seem very aggressive, do they?" she says. "We should land and speak with them, I think."
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Monday April 4th, 2011 2:15:50 PM
Jet waits patiently for Lehn and the others to catch up.
"I'd be happy to fly over and drop in on them, quickly surrender and deal with it from there, but I'm not willing to fight the forest any more. Walking in there is just asking for trouble. Unnecessary trouble at that."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Monday April 4th, 2011 4:35:02 PM
Garret watches the forest carefully and says, "This place just isn't right. I'm wondering if we're going to have to fight more dirtmen soon."
As the reports of the lizards come in, he continues, "They're hiding from us? Well, at least they're not openly attacking us. But they might not be the ones we're looking for. Can anyone speak their language so we can attempt to talk with them?"
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) d20+5=15 ; Monday April 4th, 2011 6:20:19 PM
Zeph smiles at Keela and Galin as they hop in the craft. "I'm glad to have you guys aboard. If Jet and Garret and the ground party get attacked, I'm gonna swoop in to scare the living daylights out of em. Whatcha guys got that flashes?"
Zeph hopes that even if the unthinkable happens that the situation can still be salvaged with little blood spilt through skyward intimidation.
(Knowledge Nature = 15) bah. "Hey Keela and Galin, what do ya'll think the chances of nature attacking us are up here?"
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Monday April 4th, 2011 8:20:05 PM
"Well, looks like only one option left," Alexi states. "We'll just have to ride in and see if they come out at us or give us a chance to parley. Anyone know what the 'parley' sign is for lizardpeople? Should we tie a white cloth to our lances and see if that works?"
"I suggest we show up at their village and stop a hundred yards out and wait. See what happens. See if one will come out to meet us. If not, we just move 50 yards closer and do the same. Wait to see if someone comes to meet us."
Lehn Dorr Monday April 4th, 2011 10:55:41 PM
Lehn circled a few more times before flying back towards the rest of the group. He landed on Avis, not looking particularly perturbed, and obvious sign that there didn't seem to be any danger... at least not that he'd seen.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Tuesday April 5th, 2011 10:12:27 AM
"If any of you geniuses can speak their language, then write them a frickin note or three and lets drop it over their camp asking for a parley? I am not going in there to get my butt kicked by a bunch of worms and sand men again!"
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Tuesday April 5th, 2011 3:34:55 PM
"Well, I guess no one can speak with them naturally... anyone have any magical way to communicate with them?"

I tell you what Keela. Please write down what i want the note to say and we will tie the note around a rock and let Zeph drop it off in their camp?
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Tuesday April 5th, 2011 9:18:19 PM
"Well, assuming they know how to READ! HA!" Alexi blurst with much mirth. "But it's worth a try," he squeezing in between giggles.
DM Cayzle - The Lizard Village Tuesday April 5th, 2011 10:57:18 PM
Sorry folks. I'll get a post up in the AM.
Galin Burfoot HP 74/74 AC 27 Wednesday April 6th, 2011 8:59:31 AM
Galin pipes up " here tie the note to this" pointing to Jet's flask of wine "as a friendly offer " he chuckles
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Wednesday April 6th, 2011 10:37:23 AM
"Well, alright. I would hate to have to kill something that drinks my wine though."
Jet tosses him a full flask of the good stuff.
Lehn Dorr Wednesday April 6th, 2011 11:30:26 AM
Lehn, still in bird form hopped over to Galin and the flask of wine, peering at it intently. Perhaps instead of throwing down the wine with the note attached and risk it being smashed, he could fly both down.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) d20+15=30 ; Wednesday April 6th, 2011 11:30:40 AM
Jet sits down and thinks about it before beginning, "To the noble leader of Al Mathir. It is with great pride and trepadations that our group was sent to seek your council in an effort to deal fairly with the people of which you have set yourself apart. We ask you for a parley, to discuss without aggression how we might better deal with Al Mathir and their invaders. We were sent by our leaders, the founders of the home we swore to protect, before Al Mathir arrived.
We eagerly await your positive response to our request and hope that some day, we can live side by side in peace, with the land and the people that inhabit it.
If you agree, please meet us at the watering hole, where we first saw your people fishing.
Thank you for your time and consideration."
Diplomacy: 30 but there might be penalties in written form.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Wednesday April 6th, 2011 1:10:36 PM
Garret says, "I like it, and I hope they can read. Or at least one of them can read. Let's drop that off and wait at the watering hole. Lehn, if you could watch them and see if they appear to be able to read it and report back, that would be quite helpful!"
Keela Wednesday April 6th, 2011 1:24:21 PM
"I'm happy to write it," Keela says. "But perhaps throwing a rock at them is not the best way to prove our good intentions. Maybe Lehn Dorr, in bird form, would consent to drop it off for us?"
Regardless of the delivery method, Keela patiently copies Jet's message onto one of her sheets of paper.
Lehn Dorr Wednesday April 6th, 2011 2:10:58 PM
Lehn nodded his birdy assent and held out his leg to take the written letter.
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) Wednesday April 6th, 2011 4:24:30 PM
Zeph nods to the birdy form Lehn and then chuckles as the group decides to write a note in Draconic. He looks over it as Keela writes, fully understanding the words. "Yep, that's a good idea." is all he really wants to say.
DM Cayzle - A Letter Is Written And Posted Wednesday April 6th, 2011 5:44:56 PM
Following some reconnaissance by Lehn, and to a lesser extent, by Zeph, Galin, and Keela in the Avis, the three rejoin the party to report back -- but not before Zeph contemplates using the flying craft to frighten the poor lizardfolk.
Zeph detours on the way back to come a little closer to the Forest proper. He is no druid, but somehow he would not be surprised to see some vines rise up out of the canopy to grapple the flying machine, just based on gut instinct.
Keela favors direct negotiation.
Garret, encouraged by the lack of an attack, asks if anyone can speak the language.
Alexi grabs the bull by the horns and agrees with Keela. He wants to ride in and negotiate.
Jet sarcastically suggests surrender, then argues against walking into what might be a tough challenge. He creatively suggests writing a note.
Keela volunteers for letter-writing duty. She has heard them speak, and she knows the language. It is the same one used by dragons and other lizards, though oddly enough, not by the people of Al Mathir. Jet, does that factoid make you alter your letter at all?
Alexi laughs at the idea of the lizards writing, but then, maybe it is not so strange. After all, every single creature that speaks with a language in the Wold can also read that language. [OOC: As a rules purist, I believe that is a strictly correct interpretation of the rules. No illiteracy exists in Pathfinder.]
Jet offers to collaborate with Keela on the note, and then to let Zeph drop it off.
Galin suggests adding a wineskin to the note as a peace offering.
Lehn offers to carry the note and wine over and to drop it off gently. That would be safer than letting it fall from Avis. Keela discerns the wildshaped druid's intent and concurs.
Jet and Keela collaborate on a note. After some effort, the letter is written, attached to the wine, and sent off in Lehn's strong talons.
The eagle flies off, and, after a few miles as the raptor flies, gets to the village. He sets down the letter and wineskin as agreed. Does Lehn then wait to see what happens? Right there? Circling above? How far above? Or does he head back to his new comrades? Note that the letter requests a meeting at the watering hole.
[OOC: Zeph, you say you are looking over the note as Keela writes it. Does that mean you have left off piloting Avis, Zeph? If so, it has to be towed for the rest of the day. Remember, you can only start it up once daily.]
[OOC: Many thanks for your patience and kind indulgence, my friends -- and especially let me thank you for continuing to post and RP when I had to skip a day. I'll try to get a response to this up as soon as I responses from Zeph, Jet, and Lehn, at the minimum, seeing as they have tailored questions in this post.]
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 24/23/19 CMD 21(Mage Armor, Protection from Evil) Wednesday April 6th, 2011 5:50:03 PM
Last I heard, Keela and Galin were in the craft with me... so, I'm not sure how all this transpired exactly.
But no, I don't wanna shut down the craft for the day...
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Wednesday April 6th, 2011 8:20:28 PM
ooc: Jet figures, if these people are so "superior" to the rest of "man kind", then this nobles would likely be able to read and write in the same language he speaks to his thralls with. No, I think the note and Diplomacy should stand as is.
DM Cayzle - Extra Wednesday April 6th, 2011 8:28:03 PM
I'm assuming, by the posts made, that Lehn, Zeph, Keela, and Galin returned to the others to talk and compose the letter. Zeph, since you are still piloting, you are hovering say 10 ft off the ground above Keela as she writes her note, I suppose. Okay?
I'm assuming the entire group is a few hundred yards from the fishin' hole.
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 18/17/12 CMD 21 Wednesday April 6th, 2011 8:31:16 PM
I think the best explanation is that Zeph flew the craft to the watering hole with everyone who was on board, Keela and Galin from what I can tell. (Edit 1min later: Oh, lol, we reached the same conclusion at the same time)
So Zeph chills in the pilot seat, takes out a tobacco pipe, loads it, and begins puffing as he curiously awaits the arrival of the lizards.

Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Wednesday April 6th, 2011 8:52:51 PM
OOC: on the subject of illiteracy, sometimes i let my DM side ooze into my Player side. The way I've always interpreted the rules was that all PCs could at least read and write their own language. But when dealing with npc tribes in the wilderness, the idea that every one would be literate is pretty odd. Usually only the elders, shamans, and tribal leaders could read/write. Story belts, totem poles, blankets with history symbols not withstanding. But that's not real 'reading'.
That's why Alexi doesn't think most of them can read or write. But, all it takes is one, eh?
IC: Intrigued somewhat at their new member's ability to shape-change, Alexi watches Lehn with a little envy. The Regiment had a few druids that could do the same, The Wolf Regiment being named after one such that used his wolf form to get close, infiltrate the enemy lines, and bring back valuable information.
"If we are to wait for them here, then we'd better make camp. I'll need some help to pick a spot, stake the horses, get some wood if we are going to have something warm to eat, and set up sentries."
Alexi rides out looking for a spot to camp.
OOC: Is there any raised ground nearby, a hillock maybe? Or a stream feeding into the larger body of water?
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Thursday April 7th, 2011 1:58:08 AM

Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Thursday April 7th, 2011 12:45:55 PM
ooc: On second thoughts, I didn't buy a new horse with the conversion, so Vaya might be with Bantom. :)

Garret looks around the watering hole while waiting for a response. He looks to the sun as Alexi mentions setting up a camp. Knowing that he doesn't need much himself to set up, he looks to the water to see if there might be fish to be caught there.

Waiting for Lehn ... but I'll post tonite no matter what.
Lehn Dorr Thursday April 7th, 2011 7:45:44 PM
Lehn set the letter and wine down before rising into the air and circling above once more. He understood that his very presence as a bird was notably out of the ordinary in this forest -- there was a force pressing against him, oppressive -- but he needed to confirm that the lizardfolk had at least taken the letter.
Regardless of if someone took the letter or not, he made his way back to the rest of the group.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Friday April 8th, 2011 11:53:20 AM
Jet waits patiently and takes his typical watch before going back to sleep.
ooc: Sorry guys, but I have to leave today. see you Monday.
:)
Keela Friday April 8th, 2011 2:02:00 PM
[Keela has a Feather Fall prepped, so theoretically she could leave Avis whenever she chose. Getting back up there would be problematic, of course.]
DM Cayzle - Polywoggle Doodle All The Day Friday April 8th, 2011 2:18:42 PM
The vicinity of the watering hole is gently rolling grasslands, with scattered sparse stands of brush, bramble, and trees, usually on the protected side of small rises and along streams and such. It looks something like this or this. There are streams and low hillocks, none that would hinder movement significantly.
Alexi puts himself in charge of making a camp while the party waits. You can find any terrain you like within the parameters above.
Jet helps care for the horses, then takes a little catnap while waiting. Jet, I'm assuming that you have enough horses for all to be mounted, and a couple extras. If you want one of those to be Vaya, I have no problem with that.
Garret thinks a skilled fisher could catch some fish here. Frogs too. Garret, if you make a perception check vs DC20, you note that Highlight to display spoiler: {Some of the frogs look funny --- the proportions are off, and they have tails} Oh, wait! Your slow DM notes that you already made a check for Perception at the watering hole. Feel free to read that spoiler and communicate as desired.
In fact, Garret and any who he tells ... if you can make a Knowledge Local or Nature check vs DC25, then you know that Highlight to display spoiler: {These are lizardfolk young. Most will not survive.} Galin you get a +10 on that check.
Meanwhile, Lehn waits long enough to see a lizardman emerge and pick up the offered skin and written note. It is taken inside. Eagle Lehn returns.
A few hours later, and by now let us call it late afternoon, you see a group of 20 armed and armored lizardfolk approaching the watering hole.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Friday April 8th, 2011 4:46:35 PM
Garret looks around and notices the frogs. As he has ideas of poking some for dinner, he points out to the others, "Hey, look, those frogs are a bit...off. That one over there looks like it has a tail. Anyone ever seen anything like that?"
OOC: No points in knowledge, local or knowledge, nature, so it will be up to someone else to check them out.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) d20+7=19 ; Friday April 8th, 2011 5:07:33 PM
Jet does not have the knowledge required to keep up with those that do. Seeing the approaching armed lizard people Jet says, "Lets go meet them. I don't want the water to our back, blocking an escape if we need one."
Jet hopes Keela is still close, "Will you interpret for us please?"
Sense Motive: 19 on the lizards. Are they aggressive?
Lehn Dorr 11d20=132 ; d20+11=30 ; Friday April 8th, 2011 5:17:07 PM
Lehn resumed his human form then knelt down to look at the creatures. "Hmm, these..." he blinked in surprise. "These are lizardfolk young." He glanced at the forest then back to the water. "I don't think many of them will survive to mature."
OOC: 132!? And then I got the real roll and I was happy.
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Friday April 8th, 2011 10:17:30 PM
OOC: 132 ain't very good for 11d20, it's barely 50% !
IC: Alexi sets up camp in a cops of trees with a hillock so someone can keep watch on the hill and see for 'miles' and 'miles' and 'miles'. (OOC: hey, sounds like a good song...)
Alexi has the horses watered (carefully not to bring any harm to ANY critters at the lake) and fed when he mutters, "Well, time to saddle up again...", but decides that that might be a show of force taken wrongly, so he waits alongside Jet to see what they will do.
Zeph Illidian HP 69/69 AC 18/17/12 CMD 21 Monday April 11th, 2011 1:08:32 AM
Zeph perks up as he sees the armed lizardfolk approach. He keeps the craft hovering in the back, just in case things go wrong and the group needs a quick getaway.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Monday April 11th, 2011 10:18:11 AM
" I suggest, Garret, Keela and myself go up there. Garret and I are easily the fastest members of the group on foot if we do have to run away and I can easily carry Keelas delicate form as we run, not slowing me down a bit."
If Jet senses with his Sense Motive, they are aggressive, he will cast his Longstrider spell before they engage.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Monday April 11th, 2011 12:11:24 PM
Garret moves with Jet and the others to speak with the approaching lizardmen.
Keela d20+14=34 ; Monday April 11th, 2011 5:06:55 PM
"Oh, dear," Keela says, looking at the "frogs" Galin has pointed out. [Nature 34] "Nobody touch those! Those are lizard-folk babies. We should probably camp someplace else."
The arrival of the lizard-folk delegation, however, makes relocation impossible, so Keela goes out with the others to meet them.
DM Cayzle - Shouting Lizards d20+3=21 ; Monday April 11th, 2011 5:53:24 PM
Note that the camp on higher ground that Alexi set up is indeed back a ways from the watering hole. A god couple hundred yards, say.
Garret points out that these are not normal froggies. Lehn explains that these are lizardfolk young. The eggs hatch together, and raw instinct and competition weeds out the weaker of the hatchlings. Keela suggests taking care around them. However, her studies suggest that the lizardfolk themselves may not take much care, since survival without care is part of the lizardfolk philosophy.
Jet seems uninterested in them. [Note that there is no time crunch. You noticed the pollywogs well before the lizardfolk arrived.]
Jet wants to meet the lizard envoys, who do seem well armed and ready to fight. On the other hand, they are not attacking. At this distance, that's about all you'll get.
Alexi waits, mounted, beside Jet. Garret and Keela join in.
Zeph keeps Avis ready and hovering behind the negotiators.
Galin decides to act as a rearguard and scout, ensuring the camp and horses stay undisturbed. [OOC: Sadly, Jon, playing Galin, reports that he must go walkabout. I hope he will return when real life allows. I'll give him an honorable exit asap.]
The lizardfolk advance, until they are within shouting distance. They shout their words in Draconic, a language Keela interprets. "WHAT DO YOU WANT?" one lizard shouts. "WHY ARE YOU HERE?"
Another calls out, "IF YOU WANT TROUBLE, FINE! BUT THE FOREST IS OUR FRIEND, SO WATCH OUT!"
Jet's Sense Motive check is mostly ineffective for the moment. It is especially hard to judge at a distance, based on shouting in a language you do not understand. Let's call it 100 feet away.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Monday April 11th, 2011 7:08:19 PM
Jet not understanding what they say, he can't really use his skills to full effect if they only speak that language, so he after Keela interprets their words, he yells out.
"Do any of you speak common?"

"We would like to talk to you," Keela calls back in Draconic. "May we come closer?"
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:27/27/19 HP:44/44 Ki:8/9] Wednesday April 13th, 2011 11:56:03 AM
Garret eyes the trees suspiciously and looks to the ground waiting to see a dirtman appear.
DM Cayzle - Visiting Lizards Wednesday April 13th, 2011 5:41:45 PM
Jet asks if any speak common, but none do.
Alexi notes that they are well if crudely armed with metal-tipped spears and studded armor. A few have bows and arrows, a few have swords.
Garret looks for casters, but notes none. He also sees no dirt monster.
Lehn warns that they do seem to have some kind of bond with the Forest.
Keela asks if the group can come closer. She is polite.
The lizardfolk allow that the group may come closer. One individual seems to be a speaker. He asks what you want, and invites you all to sit and talk.
