Second Lich Down

Unable to determine which Lich is Daryl, Vauhwyt steps forward offering the trapped phylactery to the lichs hinting that it was special to a snake. The Kobol's eyes open wide with greed. Both lichs look interested, too.

Aztyr remains quite letting Vauhwyt spend her tale.

Malgant menalty wonders if the kobold is a lich's snake familiar the way the gnome is Vauhwyt's familiar? Making quick plans over the telepathic link, the Minataur follows Vauh.

Brahmah, Mookie and the Deva step into the teleport Circle. They find two surprised Babau demons (flatfooted) within 5ft of the circle.

Valanthe address the demon's in the room calling out the favored treatment of the Oin, many demons make sounds echoing her opinion, and indeed the Lichs look ready to kill her.

Vorelle answers the Kobld, but his attations seems to be on the phylactery.

The Kobold quickly moves and greedily takes the offered phylactery from Vauhwyt and just as quickly puts it on. After a moments his hisses "Bah, I don't feel it doing anything, it'ss not working masster!" The Lich in robes to the left barks a command "Hiss! You worthless pet, bring the phylactery to me now!" Looking sour, the Kobold complies "Yess O'Masster" taking the trinket off he moves to his master handing it to him.

The other Lich steps to the front of the dias with anger looking at Val, the other Oni and demons move out of his way. "Foolish Succubus, I will treat both demon and Oni as I wish! You have exceed you place an now you will..."

Interrupting all is the unholy screen of the other lich, "Ahhha, I am betrayal! Nnooooo....." There is a flash of light and a vortex of energy that appears to suck the lich into a long band of magical energy that jumps from the trapped phylactry to the gem in Vauhwyt's possession.

The kobold Screems! "My masster! You have betrayed my masster! Kill the Oni!" with that the kobold draws one of it's wands and fires it at Vauhwyt hitting her with five empowered good smiting magic missiles of force (MM 45pt damage, 23 vs SR)

The other lich bellows out "Kill the Oni betryer!"

Everyone else in the room seems to have been caught flatfooted.

The Deva smiles as she sees the obvious distress the Babau hold in their eyes." Hush now, this won't hurt much, at least it won't hurt me." Lifting her mace in both hands she beats the demon down urging Brahmah and Mookie to do the same to the other one.

Mentally the Deva cries out" We are here and I see the dome. The demon guards are dead (should be anyway) and we are coming. Save some of them for me."

Inside the Dome Malgant does as he had planned. He prays to Imod and is Infused with his god's Righteous Might, growing Huge with the divine power infused into him. He steps forward( to S,T,U/10,11,12) close enough that any of his allies fighting the other Lich will benefit from what he does next. Readying his weapon for combat the Protector calls upon Imod to shelter his allies. Losing some of his attack ability and radiating it out to 10' from his body, he takes his friends under Imod's protective wing, giving all allies in that area +5 to their armor class.( I really thought the important people like Val would already be here in the armored liches pants. Oh well) Waiting to see who attacks whom he holds off taunting until the real Oni have been thinned out. Over the mental link he replies," It has begun here, the demons should fight the Oni. The first lich was trapped and we now need to batter the other into submission. I promise to leave nothing I can reach unharmed, hurry or you will miss out!"

Vauwhyt makes sure she is in Brahmah's protective aura and uses her full round to egg on the division between the factions. She uses her glib bluffing to taunt and provoke.

OOC Vauhwyt, I think you mean Malgant, not Brahmah, since he's not in the dome.

IC:

Aztyr moves to S,T/13,14, as she does so, she pulls out a wand, but doesn't use it. She then casts a spell at the armored Lich, which is the one Malgant moved toward.
Aztyr starts to try a bluff and the words get twisted in her mouth. *well, that was pointless*
She then points her index finger and recites a spell. A green bean stretches from her towards the Armored Lich. (13 touch to hit hero point used reroll 27)

She turns and eyes the armored lich. She moves forward, shifting her grip on Gargul's wrath. Valanthe draws a line in the ground with her boot. Daring the lich to cross it. "Bring it Lich. Show me what you consider strength. Then I shall crush your bones!" Valanthe shouts to the lich.

ooc: what buff's are active? Also without some type of letter to identify me I have absolutely no idea where I am on the map. All the pictures are small and shapes I cannot recognize. Valanthe will move toward the armored lich.

Okay, so it looks very like V and M both have a Holy Aura still up (for 2 more rounds). That gives Spell Resistance 25, and the magic missile attack on V only succeeded vs SR23. So no damage from the enhanced magic missiles, whew!

Mookie's action for the round (Vauhwyt's was done yesterday): Mookie points his magic missile wand at the other Babu, not the one the angel is fighting. His UMD check is a nat 20, and he tries to get the wand's magic past the outsider's SR ... Mookie's SR check is a 12, so likely no. If somehow that does work, the damage is 17.

Mookie looks up at Brahmah. "Hey, Big Boy!" the crow-in-gnome-form caws, "How's about laying waste to this evil thing here, why dontcha?" OOC: Is Brahmah still reduced? If so, he's still bigger than Mookie!

OOC to DM -- a key for the map would be really helpful.

OOC to Val -- near as I can figure, your buffs are Telepathic Bond, Protection from Cold 99 points, Death Ward, Aid (14hp), Haste (17 rounds left), Holy Aura (2 rounds left), and Mass Owl's Wisdom. Hope your sinuses are feeling better -- mine are killing me! It's that time of year.

IC: The minotaur doesn't often fight demons, or hasn't for years, but it must be like sailing... you never forget how.
(Assuming Brahmah basically pops in right next to the Babau, he uses his full attack, otherwise, only the first two strikes count)

He hits AC 31, 38, 36, 31 and 23 respectively (not crit threat), for 11,10,11,9 and12 damage respectively... dang, remembered +1 from haste but forgot extra attack... rolled AC26, for 10 damage. This is all assuming he is back to normal size. :)

**** Out by the teleport Circle ****

The Deva easily kills her Babau and wounds the other.

Mookie fires an ineffective Magic missile from a wand at the other Babau.

Brahmah lays into the Babau demon with his weapons doing just enough damage to finish it off.

The Deva, Mookie and Brahmah see the dome about 200ft away, but the two war camps of Oni and demons see to explode before their eyes and rush at one another in open battle.

***** Inside the Dome ****

Growing in strength and size with Righteous Might of his god Imod, Malgant steps forward ready to shelter his allies.

Vauhwyt incites the other Oni to fight and destroy the undead, it seems most of them believe her as they turn on the nearby groups of undead. None seem brave enough to go after the Lich himself.

The Oni do some damage against the undead, and the undead fight back wounding many Oin.

Aztyr moves up drawing a wand trying to say something, but then just strikes the Lich with a green beam of energy. Which sticks to him like an Anchor.

The Elf warrior Valanthe Incites the demons to kill the Oni and the undead, then shouts for Lich to come to her. The demons already ready for blood don't take much convincing and jump into the battle.

Vorelly shoots and undead creature in mass of confusion wounding it.

With the demons, Oni and Undead warriors at each other it leaves the Lich and Kobold to attack the group.

The Kobold sill outraged fires another lethal unholy empowered magic missile at Vauh (UMD 30, 28vs SR, dam 45) "die betrayer!"

The lich begins to laugh with unholy glee as the choas begins to unfold around it, "You will die! You will ALL DIE!" Using Spell Synthesis he his defensibly cast (43vsDC29) a prismatic Spray upon the group (SR25 vs Mal 23, Azty 36, Vauh 22, Vol 26, Val 20 Only Azty and Vol are effected. Aztyr is struck by a Red beam {20 points fire damage (Reflex half DC26) }, And Vol is struck by an Orange beam {40 points acid damage (Reflex half DC26) )} followed by a divine spell of Flame strike on Val (38 vs SR25, 45 fire Reflex for half DC 24 )

Aztyr avoids most of the damage from the prismatic spray, and the rest she shrugs most of it away taking 5 damage.(5 dr fire)
She points her finger at the lich that is now still standing anchored so he can't teleport away and unleashes one of her more commonly cast effects. She hits AC 15 (touch AC) spell pen 28, 96 damage or fort save 24 for 13 damage.

Out at the teleport pad, the Deva quickly grabs Brahmah and Mookie( reduced Brahmah is well within her carry capacity) and flies them toward the dome. She flies high and as fast as she can to avoid drawing attention to herself and her cargo.( with Haste 130' move, double move toward the dome plus climbing and descent. Glenn let me know how far they get, hopefully the will arrive by next round. " The two camps are in chaos, we will be there as soon as we find a path."

Valanthe never saw the column of divine fire coming down ontop of her. (reflex save 17). It washes over her and her armor. The mithril absorbed some of the heat but more than enough divine flame seared her flesh. How an unholy monster summoned divine flame was beyond her. She streaked out of the fire, leaving a trail behind her. Boosted by magic she streaked across the battlefield until she stopped right before the lich.

"You will need much more than that to take me down. We crushed your imposters in seconds. They were so incredibly weak. We destroyed your brother and eliminated the other. We turned your army against each other and you. No oni or demon will follow you again. You are overmatched and I will destroy you." Valanthe says with a smile. Softly enough so only the lich can hear.

Brahmah will do nothing to break the deva's grasp. In fact, he once had a cloak of flying, but the Gods took it from him. He likes flying.

Vauhwyt loses both her Aid and her False Life and takes a solid 21 damage as well from the Snake in Kobold Form.

Mookie shoots magic missiles at the Snake-Kobold: UMD 23 is fine. Spell Penetration check for the magic missiles is a 17. If that gets through, the damage is 20.

If the Kobold-Snake is still alive, Vauhwyt moves to W-X-10-11 and attacks it. Her armor spikes are lucky this round to the tune of +3. She hits AC33 for 15 damage.

If the kobold is dead already, she moves next to the lich and does the same thing.

**** Outside the Dome ****

The Deva picks Brahmah and Mookie up and physicly flys them over the battlefield of demons and Oni to the double doors of the Great dome. The outside patrols of undead are occupied by the demons and Oni battle. Brahmah hangs on enjoying the flying.

***** Inside the Dome ****

Avoiding most of the prismatic spray, Aztyr unleashes her on spell upon the Lich, but unforturnaly the ray just misses the Lich by a hair. (Touch ac is 16)

Malgant shifts and strikes the Lich with his large bastard sword it does impressive damage, but not as much as it could have (DR15 total 111).

Toasted by fire, Valanthe moves up telling the lich how they crushed his imposters in seconds. The Lich only laughs "As I new you would!"

Vorelle doges the ray and fires at the Kobold hitting with a crit and four more arrows (ooc: not a true Reptilian Humanoid he only plays one.)

Vauhwyt calls for Mookie to shoot the Kobold, but he can't "I'll love to save your ass boss, but as ground loving gnome form I don't move as fast as a bird. I'm coming as fast as I can boss". The Liontaur moves up and hits the kobold.

The Kobold hisses at Vorelle and Vauhwyt and shifts back as he pulls forth another wand tapping himself. Where there was one are now 6 images of the Kobold there

The lich cast a harm spell defensibly and reaches out to touch Mal (22 vs SR, touch attack 31 {nat 20 not conf with a 20) 150pt Will save DC23 for Half )

Aztyr sees a chance and takes advantage of it. She slips the wand back in the holster and rests her hand on the new rod she aquired. As she does so, she uses the staff and points at a spot (Z,AA/5,6) ,it is at that point with the little orange seed lands. Those who know her well, know what's coming next and are not suprised with a fireball erupts there.((cast fireball, maximised dam 60+10 from fire damage(bloodline power) total 70 damage Ref save DC 23) she sacrificed a lvl 4 spell to cast fireball).

Val, by my math your attacks should be +2 more for Haste and Aid. If you step to your north and west( or up and left on the map) to Q/9 you would gain flanking and another +2, and bull rush him into me 8).
The original +2 wouldn't have made you hit tho, sorry. The die roller has been hot for me lately, both here and in the other game, God help my poor players, I am averaging at least one confirmed crit per round.

**** Outside the Dome ****

Stopping just outside the large closed double doors of the dome the Deva puts Mookie and Bram down, and pulls open one of the doors to find two stone Golems standing guard just inside, it starts to move towards the intruder.

The Golem stands in Brahmah's way.

The Golem slams the deva twice (hit ac 35, 24 dam 22) hitting the angle once.
The second Golem step into the door way and slams once at Bram (hit ac 42 {nat 20 conf 30} dam 17+16=33)
both the Deva and Bram must save {Will DC17 twice} verses a slow effect from each of the Golems or be slowed as the spell {only able to take a single move or standard action each round}

***** Inside the Dome ****

Undaunted by the Lich's attack, Malgent pounds on it again with his large broadsword. You hear stone shatter from withing the darkness behind the Lich as you strike him.

Aztyr swaps her wand for a staff and fireballs the multiple imaged kobold and a few demons. The kobold dies almost instantly reverting to the crispy snake form. One injured demon is killed the rest are wounded by the fire.

Valanthe taunts the Lich as she swings her adamantite hammer only to miss, but manages to strike with the shield once.

With the Kobold dead, Vorelle puts her arrows into the wounded demons, killing two of them.

The Lich still kicking glares at the heroes, before casting another spell defensibly (32 vs DC31) as he shifts back yet again. The very earth starts to shake with powerful shockwaves over the next round anyone caugh within the effect can't move or attack and spell casters must make a DC28 concentration check if they try to cast a spell. Above you the Dome starts to crack and break. Anyone still withing the area of effect at the end of the round will be caught in the collapsing ruble taking (33 dam, Reflex save DC15 for half) and is pinned beneath the rubble Earthquake

As the Earthquake is happening, the Lich calls on the remaining Oni, Demons "These imposers are the true foes, they have fooled you and by their own words have killed the demons and Oni! Attack them!"

The demons, Oni and undead within the dome have halted there attacks one each other, waiting to see what the others will do.

Deva will save 18 and 24 plus she has SR 25.

Question, is the roof of the dome collapsing or is the CAVERN collapsing on the roof and collapsing the roof from the weight of the stone?
Also, the spell does not describe how one becomes UNpinned from beneath the rubble....hows that work?

(ooc: In this case I'm DMing it's just the dome, not the cavern since the cavern roof is more than 80ft away and would be out side the area effect. {funny why then didn't include a section about building inside of caverns} There doesn't seem to be any rules for digging oneself out of being pinned in rubble. My idea would be to treat it the same as being tie up and set the DC at 20+damage taken. Natural 20 wouldn't automatically free you. -DM Glenn)

Malgant feels the earth shake and quickly thinks " THE ROOF!! Teleport out from under the part that will fall." He then reaches out and touches both Val and Aztyr and hopes that Aztyr is steady enough to make the concentration check to teleport away. He holds his attack until after the teleport.

The Deva, after making her saves grabs the other two people and again takes flight. ( Pretty sure they both get an AoO on her). She flies south around the collapsing area.
172 of 172 hp ( Her DR and Aid spell took care of the damage, unless the golems can break her 10/evil DR in which case she has some superficial damage. Let me know.)

Aztyr feels Malgant latch on to her, and concentrates briefly and casts teleport. (concentrate roll 28 (rolled a 2.. was betting on needing a hero point to reroll)
The three of them blink out of existence and reappear very near by. Aztyr ends up in T,U/7,8, Malgant ends up in Q,R,S/5,6,7, and Valanthe ends up in S,8.

Feeling himself reappear and still being in reach of the Lich, Malgant swings once with all of his weight behind the blow. ( uses Vital strike)
Hit AC 41 for 52 damage+5<holy>+9<bane>-15 DR=51 damage.

Valanthe wasn't sure what was going on. The lich was cackling and the ground was shaking. So bad it nearly took her off her feet. She almost got buried beneath some falling stone but she manage to move enough so it only clipped her (reflex save 29). Then suddenly she was next to the lich again. She wasnt even sure how it happened but she wasnt going to pass the chance to bash him to pieces.

Good thing Brahmah is under the effects of Haste and Freedom of Movement. (Will saves 24 and 36) "Ah, golems. How cute. The liches have toys."
The confused battle waged beyond the construct didn't seem to be going well. Brahmah had obstacles in his way, the golem was most immediate, the other less friendly foe was the fact that if the arcanists of the party died, that Brahmah himself would be stuck in Domi knows where!
He strikes out at the golem, knowing full well that putting this creature down would take some doing.
(Hitting AC 31, 41(threat?27), 30, 30 and 26 respectively, for 14,8(18 if crit),11,13,12 damage respectively, plus the hasted attack 30 for 13 damage)

The ground begins shaking, and it's all Vorelle can do to stay on her feet. Then Malgant yells for everybody to teleport, and Aztyr teleports herself, Mal, and Val out of danger.

"Uh....guys?" Vorelle calls to the open chamber, but there is nobody left!

The ceiling comes crashing down, and Vorelle dodges the falling rocks [Reflex 39; Evasion]. She takes no damage, but nevertheless she ends up pinned under one of the larger rocks.

Mookie huddles near the Angel. He says to Brahmah, "Maybe we should just head back to the Teleport Circle and get out of here!"

Vauhwyt has to save vs Aztyr's fireball? If so, her save is normally a +16, but with the last round of Holy Aura it is a +20 ... she rolls a 31 and takes no damage.

She tries to teleport next to the lich so that she and Brahmah are flanking. Her concentration check is 1d20+12 level +3 chr +5 headband = 23 -- fail! She uses a hero point on the reroll, leaving her with just one left! And the reroll is a natural one! A waste, she loses her spell, and she is earthquaked! She saves for no damage but is pinned! Arrgh!

**** Outside the Dome ****

The Deva makes a grab to take Mookie and Bram up and above the collapsing area. The two stone face golems swing at the Deva. (hit ac 30, 34 dam 18-10dr=8, 15-10dr=5 tot=13) (Slow CL 25, 25 vs SR last round, both good, but she saved anyway.)

brushing off the Deva's grab, Brahmah strikes out at one of the Golems hitting with lots of blows and slowly chipping away at it due to its very hard stone (DR10/Adamantine). (ooc: Stone Golems)

The two Stone Golems swing at Brahma (hit ac 30, 36, 35, 23 dam 18, 23, 18).

***** Inside the Dome ****

(ooc: Those trapped under the rubble can make a standard action escape check or str check verse DC20+<damage taken> to break free {same as if tied up})

Malgant reaches out and grabs hold of Aztyr and Val.

Feeling Malgant hold, Azty Concentrates on her teleport spell relocating the trio safely outside the quake zone.

Malgant takes advantage and strikes at the Lich hitting it hard.

Shaken and disornated by the sudden teleport Valanthe keeps her eye on the Lich and swings, getting a solid blow in first followed by four strike outs.

Vorelle looks on as Aztyr teleports away just before the roof falls in. The ranger does manage to avoid damage from the falling pieces and is trapped within a void. She can try to wiggle free (DC20 full action to try and escape.)

Vauhwyt tries to teleport next to the lich out of the rock fall, but having to dodge huge chucks of stone roof while the ground is bucking wildly breaks her concentration even with her heroic effort. Avoiding damage she is still pinned under the rocks (DC20 full action to try and escape, or shadow walk.)

The others can only see piles of rubble where Vorelle and Vauhwyt stood. Total concealment for those buried. Also the area of the collapse is now rough terrain {x2 movement cost.}

The Lich looking a little ragged cast flame strike defensibly (concentration: 30 vs DC25) on to his attackers. Catching Mal, Val, Azty and two Babau who have moved up to attack the true heroes. (fire dam 43, Reflex save for half DC24, SR rolls 24mal, 32val, 34azty) he kills one of the demons and wounds another.

As one the demons and Oni, yell "Kill the deceiving adventurers!" and they join in the battle.

Seven of the Babau teleport out of or across the rubble to an area south of the heroes.

A handful of undead are moving across the rubble field towards the battle.

Three Oni attack Mal from the north (hit ac 38, 29, 37, 28, 23, 20 dam 22) only one managed to hit the huge minotaur.

As three Babau attack Aztyr from the south (hit ac 35, 35, 16, 25, 18, 28 dam 15, 11, 12, 8) four of the demons hit with their spears

Aztyr takes a bunch of damage from the flamestrike. When the spears come in following the scorching she yells out in pain. She looks back over her shoulder and launches another seed, aiming at the junction of V,W/3,4. She casts Fireball again, once again focusing the spell through the rod of Maximise, lesser.
(70 damage, Ref DC 23 for half) She once again sacrificed a level four spell to cast a level 3.
* Vauhwyt, grab the kobold corpse once you get free and help kill these demons, you too Vorelle. We've appearently got a free agent on the otherside killing the Golems. I'm not canceling the reduce person, because we'll have to get him to get out of here.*

Malgant waits for Val to hopefully step into flanking on the lich bwfore he attacks. Shouls she destroy the Lich, Malgant can help destroy some of the other threats around them.
Malgant interposes himself between Aztyr and the first polearm to hit her, the holy presence of his deity blunting the attack( 15-10 evil DR = 5)
He fails to dodge the unholy fire from the Lich and is wounded by that( reflex save 21)
He also takes the hit from the oni, and again Imod's might fills him and lessens the damage* 22-10DR/evil=12)

Events from the past begin to make sense to Malgant as he recalls what happened just before the teleport. "You hear stone shatter from withing the darkness behind the Lich as you strike him."" By Imod's shining Horns, this darkness is a mirror image of the darkness in Imod City. If my guess is right it will consume anything it touches. Do not go near it!" As he thinks this he realizes how close to it he really is. Yet he is hemmed in on all sides by both allies and enemies. The lich is taking more damage than the tales say a mighty dragon would take to fall, and several of his friends did not make it out from under the rubble. Malgant gritted his teeth and vowed the Lich at least would not survive this fight.

Then he saw the Deva flying above the rubble and flying straight as an arrow for them. Her graceful flight took her just opposite the lich from Malgant ( to Q/9, AoO from the Oni and Lich). She landed and gently placed her burden, Mookie, on the ground. With a smile and a {b]" Sorry I am Late, did you save any for me?"[/b] quip she spread he arms and wings and cast a new Holy Aura over the party.( Vauhwyt, Vorelle and Brahmah are out of range).
" Enough survived the infighting and the Lich's own destruction to make a sport of it for you Yet, Though it seems Aztyr aims to rob you of the chance to flex your muscles. Lets finish this rabble. I am sure more await outside. Where is Brahmah by the way?"With a flanker now on the Lich's other Side Malgant again lauches his full complement of attacks.

Brahmah still doesn't understand the group as a whole. But now stuck, alone, behind the golems, he has little choice. He can't fight them by himself. He attempts to use his near non-existent acrobatic skills to try to move past UV45 golem and try to get around it. (Acrobatics 25, nat 20!!) And tries to get up with the deva and Mookie. He moves at his regular speed and tries to be defensive while doing the flip or tumble.

Valanthe takes a step to her right (s9) to better position herself. There's something odd here. This lich is far tougher than any of the other's they have faced. His armor is substantial and his magic is powerful. For the second time a column of fire as poured down over her and she didnt like it (reflex save 21). There was only one thing to do. Bash the lich with her hammer until it drops.

"Could it be drawing strength from the orb? Causing destruction to keep itself together? We could be causing the destruction."

OOC: not sure if moving to S9 qualifies for flanking. dont know the rules for flanking when a large creature is involved. Also Valanthe has no more SR. Holy Aura is gone.

Val, read Malgant's posts, the part in the spell list listed in Bold. Last round and the round before there was no SR. This round the Deva recast the Holy Aura for all but Vauhwyt, Brahmah and Vorelle because they were too far out of range. Also I would say yes S9 counts for flanking, there is a threatening foe directly opposite you on the diagonal. Thats how I took it with the deva in Q/9.
Brahmah, the Deva attempted to pick you back up but you chose to attack the golems. I reposted to ask if you were sure but you didn't respond before the DM posted again, so you are at the door. The Deva is being "paid" to fight the Lich. Killing evil outsiders is a bonus, the Golems are neither and with all that rubble in the way will take forever to reach us and can be ignored for now.
This Lich HAS to be hurting and as far as I can tell is a 10th level mystic Thurge, 7th( min) priest and 7th(min) wizard. Yes kids, that equals 24. He is armored and is one bad dude, but he has to run out of stoneskin and ( i am guessing) shield other capability sometime, we just need to apply more damage.

Malgant's heart soars to see both of his friends climb from the rubble, apparently uhurt. Then he sees a bloody Brahmah making his way toward them with the 2 stone golems in hot pursuit. " Aztyr, you still have the staff right. I think Brahmah will need healing, soon, and until this Lich falls I am otherwise engaged.

Brahman knows if he can make to the lich that he will be a great help.

Ooc: if Brahmah can there this round he will be easier to heal and in range to attack. I must have misread the post where the deva was going to move Brahmah. I thought, honestly, that we were stopping at the golems.
