OOC- Zombie Apocolypse... time to buy a boat!
Snafu was touched by the emotional outpouring of the ratkin. Perhaps these guys aren't so bad after all Snafu thought. "You are what you do" he said to the Ratkin. "And I've got to say that the sacrifice you're making for your families is very commendable. I wish you all the best of luck in your new lives. May we meet again under better circumstances, in this life or the next."
With this done Snafu put this new record away and began focusing on the survivors, securing their food and preparing the wagons. Soon after however, he became a bit distracted by the exploding zombies.
"This isn't good at all" Snafu said with obvious concern. "A disease like this could spread fast... very fast. I hate to say this, but maybe we should run some tests on these things. See what happens when they die by arrow or spell. We need to get a better idea of what we're up against."
"As much as I'd like to get out of here, I think we should spend the night and experiment on them tomorrow with all manner of magic and weapon at our disposal. It will put us in a much better position should Skalipy try to use these creatures again."

Tishe' considers what is needed, and she thinks that the disease might be cleansed with fire. "I can cast several Walls of Fire with my staff, and thus burn all of the zombies down. While it won't be fast, with them contained it will be sure."
Tishe' waits for the others to give ideas on containing the zombies and the plague before burning them all in lines of fire.
(ooc: this should work by having 110' feet of flaming wall serpentine about the zombies and slowly burn them at 2d6 per round until they are ash)
Edmund (HP: 95/95, AC: 17, CMD: 20) Saturday May 28th, 2011 1:54:35 AM
Edmund has definitely seen better days. Yet, despite being badly beaten, the half-elf paces about his cell, talking to no-one in particular. He is having a rather animated conversation when Thar and the others arrive. "Greater mustard. Lesser mustard. Mustard plus one. Masterwork mustard. Ground brown mustard, canned and white wine mustard, tinned. Essence of mustard. Silvered mustard. Two-Handed Heavy Crossmustard..." he is saying to the wall when the party arrives and interrupts him.
He turns to face them, squinting his eyes--both of which have been blackened, and one of which is swollen. "Ah ha!" he shouts at them angrily. "So you show yourself at last! And where are my umbrellas? Don't have them, do you? I thought not! Parasols, parasols, parasols, but not an umbrella to spare!"
Suddenly confronted by Thar hugging him, Edmund pushes him away. "What do you think you're doing," he exclaims. "You can't do this to me! I'm the archmage of the Mashed Potato Order of Potato City! The great potato. Saviour of all potatoes. I'll have you know that I'm twice-baked on Thursdays. Unhand me, you unstarched cretin!"
With his hands on his hips, Edmund sways back and forth drunkenly. "The other potato--I mean the poteeple, peetato, peoples... the other people person who was here. Where's my wine? I called for wine. I wash my hands of it. Pistachios! I'll show him, locking up me in a potato-filled wine cask. No, no. I'll fireball the lot of you!"
Edmund raises his hands menacingly and nothing happens. After several moments of this, he waves his arms over his head dramatically, or comically, and once again resorts to hurling invective at Thar.
"This is your fault!" he shouts "All your fault! Where have my arms gone!?" Realising that he cannot find his waving arms, the poor fellow suddenly calms down. "Oh, there they are. What are they doing up there," he asks as he lowers his arms, gazing intently at his hands. "Are these mine? They seem to be." But just as suddenly, he becomes agitated again, bellowing "Bath! Bath! Bath! Bath!" before he falls silent, pacing back and forth in front of Thar, taking no further notice of him, but again conversing with himself.
"Must find a way out, must find a way out, need to free the people, have to set them free, find a way to free them, free myself, my head, my head, my head..."
Edmund sinks to his knees, wincing and holding his head in his hands. "Ugh..."

Smiling at Edmund's antics, Thar says laughingly as he introduces Edmund to the rest of the party..., "Now that's the Edmund I remember. Everyone, I'd like to introduce you to my good friend and companion, Edmund. He has a whole slew of titles, though I can't remember them all... I'm sure he'll fill you in on what they are though..."
Turning his attention to the Zombie's and disease, he is very concerned. "Well, I can try to help destroy them, but if they're all in a confined area, Tishe's plan makes sense. We should burn and destroy them all. I have no use for undead and the only option is to put them down for good. I hate to suggest this, but how about we burn down the whole barn with the zombies inside of it? That way we are protected from any danger of disease..."
"Regarding the device, let's investigate it and find out all we can, and then destroy it for good. I don't want Skalipy or anyone else coming and finding it and using it for evil..."

The ratkin can see Snafu's sincere concern as he makes the list, and others that originally gave their names go back in and lead a few more that you haven't seen before out to give their information. Among these is one named Cuthbert who claims to be a priest of Pantheon. He says he was captured and subjected to Skalipy's tests, and, like these others eventually failed the one that made him into this ratkin form. He says that Pantheon still listens to his prayers and he wants to try and redeem this place and make it whole, as a refuge for the ratkin created here. If Snafu wants, or any of the others in the group are willing, he wants to sit and talk, to get to know those that liberated them from Skalipy. It will be a starting point for the history of the liberated compound and will also allow you to know one another well enough to perform scrying and sending spells with a good chance of success. After this exchange the ratkin help make the former prisoners comfortable while the group decides what to do with the Zombies. The ratkin would love to have them destroyed by the group. They are immune to the disease, but can become carriersfor a short time if they are infected with it. The zombies outnumber them greatly though and the ratkin would be hard pressed to destroy them with out high losses. Cuthbert is helpful in this respect as well, since he was force to help create some of the zombies. He explains that if he refused, which he initially did, that Skalipy would give one of the ratkin that Cuthbert had sworn to defend over to Sharon and allow he to torture it. In Cuthbert's eyes this was grossly unfair to the ratkin and he helped create the zombies to protect them weak. He is willing to tell his tale under any scrutiny the party wishes, and any attempts they make to check his alignment are met with a lawful neutral result. He is telling the truth, and it seems he does this all the time, even if it is not a happy or particularly pleasant truth. Time passes and Edmund recovers from the build up of drugs in his system, regaining his abilities. You all are quite sure that the wall of fire method will in fact convert the zombies to ash, along with any flammable parts of the building. The ratkin are delighted to hear this, and offer to help with bows and arrows in case any make it through the wall without perishing. Cuthbert explains that the zombies WILL explode, no matter how they are killed. This was one of the things Skalipy had to take time to test abd perfect. He felt that even a skilled swordsman would eventually sucumb to the disease if he were hit with it by exploding dead when he killed them, and thus the plague would spread even to the heroes that sought to stem the tide. Only paladins would be safe from the disease. But they would be faced with hordes of undead, many of which had stood beside them only hours ago. Skalipy felt this plague would cleanse the Wold and pepare it for those that survived to rebuild it anew.

She listens through the day as Snafu speaks with Cuthbert and the other ratkin. The witch is convinced that a Panthenon cult here in the lands of the Dread would be hard but worthwhile. She promises to keep communication open with Cuthbert and the community and with Cinnamon Valley. "Panthenon is the god of my childhood and was the Power followed by the majority of the Sargrass town of Rattledam before the rise of Sargrass. You will be a good leader for these people."
The witch gathers the others by meeting thier gaze. "And tomorrow it is time for us to escort the others home."

Once Edmund has recovered, he reacquaints himself with Thar, and explains briefly the circumstances that led to his imprisonment.
"I got home, and found that my brother had already taken care of everything," he says, with a hint of lingering exasperation. "There was no need for me to make the journey at all, except to visit my father's tomb. A black day, that." The half-elf seems a bit crestfallen at this, but in true form puts a brave face on and continues. "In any case, they've made my brother a councillor of the city in our father's place, so if we ever head to the Windbourne Hills, we'll have plenty of assistance from my Right Honourable brother."
"Anyway," he continues, "After I saw to some small affairs, I decided to head back. Lo and behold that, along the way, I came across a town nearby. I was told there was some sort of black stuff going on up here, and so I decided to have a look-in. I imagined it was nothing too difficult for the Archmage of the Mithril Order to solve. Well, I got pretty far inside and along they came right at me. No messing about, this lot. I let them have it--took care of a fair few of them, in fact, but then their leader came out. That was a bit much. I think something came at me from behind. Honestly, I don't remember."
"The next thing I recall was waking up as something vile was being poured down my throat. Terrible stuff. Then everything went all sideways--and after that I was here, in the cell, with you, just a few minutes ago. No idea what they've been trying to figure out, but I suspect that it had something to do with teleportation. I was going to teleport the prisoners out, you see, and I gather that the leader fellow worked that out himself. Can't tell you much else than that, I'm afraid."
"Shocking bad headache now," he adds. "But at least I can think straight. What's the plan?"

Edmund relates his tale and greets the new friends that Thar has joined in defending the Cinnamon Valley. He asks about his former comrades. Kahlan cleans and wraps her dead mentor. She prepares him for the trip to the Cinnamon Valley by mentally recalling his acts of kindness. As a tear escapes her eyes she sees several of the Ratkin females standing by, ready to assist her in preparing his body, but too timid to interrupt her. Tishe prepares for the trip home. Funny to call an unfinished keep in a new land home, but already it is starting to feel that way. Falmar, Thar, Tishe and Snafu speak with Cuthbert and all get a good feel for him. He relates a few tales of his past and of happier times before his trip here. The Ratkin also gains a good understanding of these heroes. ( you are considered at least acquaintances for purposes of scrying and sending spells). Serillana keeps a close watch on the Barn until Tishe lights it up.
Finally the barn is burned with the walls of fire. A few of the hardier undead manage to escape the flames, only to be cut down by Thar, Snafu and the cadre of Ratkin archers that help with the burning. Thar is able to learn that the ratkin are naturally immune to most diseases. They still must make a saving throw though and if they fail it, the disease lingers in them for a few days and MAY be transmitted by bite. None of the Ratkin are currently carriers of any disease. The next day dawns grey and threatening rain, but the captives insist that they wish to leave and return home. A few days journey bring you all back to the keep in the Cinnamon Vally, unharmed.

Snafu bid the ratkin farewell and wished them well. "We are never too far away... buzz if you need us and we'll come as fast as elvenly possible" he called out as the caravan left.
During the trip back to Cinnamon Valley, Snafu helped serve as an advanced scout, keeping a watchful eye on potential dangers ahead. He also took the time to check on the condition of the freed captives, speak with the Connoisseur and connect with his companions.
"Serillana, you really were effective in our last battle when you were made invisible. Have you ever considered learning how to use one of these in such a circumstance" Snafu said as he held up a wand. "I always keep a few handy... with some practice you could easily cast invisibility on yourself, and faerie fire on enemies that use blur spells to neutralize your stealth attacks."
And later to Edmund...
"A friend of Thar's is a friend of mine!" Snafu said with a smile. "And a half-elven sorcerer to boot... just like me!" Snafu added with a wink. "Perhaps we should discuss tactics in case we ever become brothers in combat, eh?"
"My magic is fairly straightforward" Snafu said, diving right in. "Most of it is defensive in nature or designed to target single individuals. I also utilize summoning and the occasional fireball, but that's about it. How about you brother? What's your weapon of choice, eh... conjuration perhaps? No... you look more like the evocation type, yes? Or perhaps necromancy?"
And lastly to Kahlan...
"I came away very impressed with your skill with the blade, Kahlan" Snafu said eagerly. "Perhaps some time we might train together? Sadly, my skills with the blade have gotten a bit rusty because of the time I've needed to devote to magical study. However, I've recently learned of a spell that will boost my weapon skills considerably, and I aim to use this spell so that I might fight at your side, when required. What do you say friend Kahlan? Will you help train me when time permits?"
...
Eventually the caravan pulled into Cinnamon Valley, which was a huge relief to Snafu.
"Home at last! Home at last! Thank God almighty we are home at last!"

The night and time of escort are enough for Tishe' to realize that not all of Edmund's nonsense came from the befuddling drugs. It is good for old packmates to get acquainted, but it is also good to learn the new warp and weft of the pattern. She uses the caravan's travel back to Cinamon Valley to explain a few things.
"Many Shadows, Edmund", she begins, "I am Tishe', Witch of Sargrass and leader of the Cinnamon Protectors, these heroes. Travel with us and stay awhile at our home. you are well come to our company." She tells of how the group came together, transported from several places throughout the Wold to arrive in a Witch's circle in Cinnamon Valley a few months ago. Trying to find out why this happened, the group has been helping the people of the Valley against a kidnapping and slave ring whose ultimate leader was that white handed treadle, Skalipy.
As the group gets closer to the tower, Tishe' eagerly looks for signs of building; wondering what it will look like since the last time they left the construction workers.
DM David--- In the Halls of the Tested --- Thursday June 2nd, 2011 7:38:03 PM
Tishe's far looking eyes are rewarded with a bit more than she expected. The Pitchfork Council was payng for a basic tower. The heroes had made a few changes ( make any changes you want, if they will cost more then you need to foot the bill. Also if someone want to draw up the plans it would be great to have a layout of your home) but a basic tower is what she expected. Sometime while the heroes were busy a small town sprang up around the tower. She can see a working smithy, a general store, a stable and a small Inn. All of the buildings are rough, but they are looking like they are pretty permanent, not just buildings thrown together to serve while the work was completed. The outside of the tower is finished. The inside is nearly complete as well. Snafu is able to find traders, mercenaries and all manner of couriers to send out work to the Ratkin's kin. These same are also able to safeguard any of the freed captives as they make their way home.( Assume that the captives were able to recover enough of their belongings and buy enough replacements with loot I didn't document from Skalipy's stronghold to make their way home from your new town.) Reginald and Jenny book a room at the Innfor a few days while he sorts out where to go. He also mentions he is willing to sponsor anyone who was involved in his rescue to the Connoisseurs of Combat for admittance. The applicant would need to prove their mettle but for the lot of you he sees no problem in that. As you open the door to your Home, you find a messenger from Lady Dulcet sitting in your foyer, waiting for you. He has a message from the witch and has been waiting for several days. The message states that he is to be given an account of what happened and he will deliver it to Dulcet who in turn will talk to the council. When the party is rested and recovered they may then deliver the full report to the council. He also relates that Dulcet is feeling much better. The strain put her out for over 2 days and she was too weak to cast spells when he left with these instructions, but was recovering.
OOC ok, I said I would work on hero points and stuff for the adventure, so here we go. This is my first time awarding this stuff so if it doesn't make sense tell me and I'll work it out... be gentle.
Hero Points Everyone is awarded 1 for surviving. Even the new guys, because you allowed me to mess with your characters and use them to relate things the party had not already seen. Tishe, for roleplaying with Blackhand, causing my life of a single powerful caster nemesis to go up in flames with your counterspells and STILL casting after being paralyzed take another Hero point. Serillana for teaching me something I didn't know about sneak attacks and persevering despite it, take another Hero Point. Falmar, for making Dondit more than just a mount and breathing life into him take another Hero point Snafu for dealing with Skalipy and for drawing out an explanation of his plans to get info take another Hero point Thar for excellent use of you domain powers to use the bow to negate cover bonuses take another Hero Point
Experience I should remind you that the Wold uses the Medium experience track for advancement. Everyone go to 400,000xp ( even the new folks, I want the group to advance together, it makes things easier and does not get someone killed by being the "underpowered guy" in the group)
Loot I will post tomorrow I will post them Identified, it is easy enough to do now.

((Sorry, got home late this evening. Thought I would make it in time!))
Edmund is thoroughly pleased the make the acquaintence of another half-elf sorcerer.
To Snafu, Edmund explains briefly that he tries to be useful in a variety of circumstances. "But," the good-natured half-elf adds, "I do seem to have something of a talent for making friends. I suppose I'm just a likeable fellow!"
Edmund smiles broadly, and indeed, he does seem to be a likeable fellow. How much of that is down to 'enhancements' is hard to tell.
The sorcerer also takes some time to get to know Tishe. He looks alarmed when she tells him that she is a witch, but he remains cordial and polite, all the same
"Transported?" he asks her, raising his eyebrows. "Magically? Good heavens. There's some pretty serious stuff taking place here, methinks. What did you say his name was? Skippy? I suspect we'll hear from him again ere all is ended."
Taking advantage of the trip, Edmund not only listens, he also talks. A lot. Almost incessantly, in fact. The garrulous fellow seems capable of an unending stream of conversation on almost every imaginable topic, and he seems thoroughly knowledgeable in every matter. At times, one might suspect that a large part of what he claims to know is purely made-up, but he is so personable and friendly that it might not seem worth questioning.
Once the situation is explained, Edmund feels some history is in order. "In Plateau City, I was the leader of the Mithril Order," Edmund says. "Thar and our acquaintences were all members. We were charged with the defense of the city, and we had a manor and the fellowship of the town's governors. I wonder now what has become of everyone, for it appears the Order is scattered."
"Nevertheless," he continues, "Thar is a sagacious fellow, as I'm certain you've noticed, and if he feels that he ought help you, I see no reason why I shouldn't as well. In fact, given the circs, I'd like to get even with Skippy. I don't take kindly to being locked in a room and used as a test subject for holistic medicine."
. . .
Once they arrive, Edmund investigates the tower with a supremely confident smile. He determines that it is incredibly well-built and thinks it will do nicely. As far as what he has based this decision on, he does not go into details, but instead says reassuringly, "I know a fair bit about these things, and we've nothing to worry about, no sir."
The sorcerer also does his best to work out how to arrange for a hot bath and the washing of his clothes. Once this is attended to, he almost looks as good as new--apart from the bruising. With a winning smile and an engaging demeanour, he really does look as though he came from a family of well-connected politicians.
On hearing of the letter from the Lady Dulcet, Edmund's ears perk up noticeably. "I might be of some marginal use to you," he says. With that, he cheerfully enquires as to whatever particulars about Lady Dulcet that he can get out of the messenger (Bluff 27 or Intimidate 27 or Diplomacy 39*).
* I didn't know which skill roll to make, so hopefully this will cover whatever one is needed. Also, my Bluff/Intimidate modifier is 25, not 22. I've added +3 to the above roll.

Falmar spends his time working with the laborers and generally getting in the way while trying to help where he can.
On the second day of their return home he is sitting beneath a tree, watching a small patch of grasses that the Power Sargrass has allowed to take root and spread. Renewing his faith in his Deity and the continuation of life in general, when a small group of apparently angry women surround him. Squinty eyes and scowls greet him as he stands...
" Good morning, you are all looking quite shuttlecocked! No need to get all warped, tell me what troubles you so ?"
A young petite maiden with flour on her apron steps in front of the others and extends a shaking accusatory finger in Falmar's face....
At Falmar's incomprehension she turns beet red, throws her hands in the air and stalks off , making loud sounds all seemingly beginning with the letter H. Another woman steps forward, a grandmotherly sort, very small, very tan, very wrinkly, the Manfri pop into Falmar's thoughts, until she notices his reverie and smacks him with the stick he didn't notice she was carrying.
" Now, since you're not from the Valley, we have something in common, also, HLena doesn't understand the words you use and they all sound harsh to her. So listen to me boy and listen well, or you'll get my stick across your backside! Last night HLena was setting the table for her husband Hnenry and their two boys. They had worked all day on your little council project here, and as soon as they are sitting down to begin their meal a long pink tentacle came in through their window and snatched their chicken, greens, and the bread she spent all day making right through the window ! When she looked out, a huge maw of pointy teeth was smiling at her, and then licked her face! Once her husband was able to wake her up the creature was gone. This morning at the well all of these women have reported similar problems. You brought that thing here !, I saw you riding it! You need to keep it where it belongs...! "
Falmar spends the next hour apologizing and guaranteeing that he will definitely take full responsibility for his companion, vowing to have a stable and fenced in area created. The women seem very dubious when he tells them he will instruct Dondit not to take food from their homes.
After visiting a carpenter, and explaining what he thinks will be needed for Dondit, he returns to the Tower and makes the mistake of speaking with Edmund about the Connoisseurs of Combat. After about an hour's worth of smoothly flowing praise and aggrandizement Falmar is thoroughly convinced that Edmund is possibly their greatest fan, and that this organization is the pinnacle what someone of the martial skills variety should strive for...although he didn't really learn much else.... Thanking Edmund for his knowledge, Falmar decides to speak with Reginald before he and Jenny decide to leave.

Kahlan explorers the keep, and the small town springing up around it. She tries to find a place to bury her mentor as well as a gravetender to prepare everything. Once this is done she tries to make friends with those around the area.
She contemplates switching to more comfortable clothing, but decides against it, keeping her armor and weapons on. "Perhaps when I am more comfortable here. It's not home... but soon, it could be."
Tishe' (AC:27 CMD:19 HP 107/107) Saturday June 4th, 2011 9:51:02 AM
Tishe' is amazed and spends a lot of time wandering the busy little village that has sprung up around the construction. Amazed that thier presense has galvanized so much activity. Amazed that they are welcomed so easily. Amazed that so many common people want to spend thier life outdoors!
Cinnamon Valley is sooooo much different than her life on the Sargrass Plains! There, people didn't leave the great Grass domes of the villages except for hardy merchant sailors or even more hardy (and foolhardy) Walkers. There, her packmates were feared and distrusted. There, people did as little as possible for others, because every drop of sweat kept yourself alive...
"And all the trees!" wonders Tishe' aloud. Sometimes her short attention span has its uses, however, and Tishe' is able to break away from her reverie to go about and seeing to accomodations. She makes sure each of her Cinnamon Protector packmates finds living quarters to suit thier fancy. Then finds guest quarters for Reginald and Jenny, and the messenger from Dulcet as well as a place to provide food and drink for thier journey fast. Once that is done, Tishe' (and whoever else wants to be involved) has a meeting with the chief foreman for the building project and invites others in the community to see what the situation is for the tower and the community at large. "Doesn't make sense to start planting before you know the season", she says.
The agenda that Tishe' has planned isn't large, and has room for the concerns of others. The Witch wants to know - status of construction - general permenancy plans of the little village - to find and hire a Chatelain for the Cinnamon Protectors who can be in charge of hiring and running any other domestics that the group may need such as chamber servants, kitchen, garden, and other administrative requirements.
All this doesnt' have to be taken care of immediately, Tishe' knows, there are many things to get done, the least of which is not rest and spell recuperation.
Thar spends some time relating to Edmund the fates of the various members of their old adventuring party. Sadly, many had personal or national demands that required them to depart, and eventually, Thar was the only one left in the town. After his beloved Ruby was forced to leave too, Thar decided to seek new pastures and adventures...
(after return) Once they're back home, Thar shares his relevant information with the messenger, but leaves the heavy discussion for Tishe' and the others. He also admires their new tower and the community that's built itself around them. He makes a point to meet the business owners, and see if there are any spiritual or medical needs among the people.
To Reginald, Thar says, "Yes, I've heard of the Connoisseurs and they sound like a very reputable group. I'd be interested in joining if you'd sponsor me, and I think I would be a good addition to their numbers. What shall I do to get the process started?"
One thing he does need to begin building is a church where the people can worship each week. He sends a letter to the home church in Plateau City, asking for someone to come out and minister at this church... He will sponsor them, but can't do the day to day ministry because of his job as an adventurer...
He asks the others about who should be their treasurer, and mentions that he was entrusted with this duty by the Mithril order, and Edmund can vouch for his honesty.. If they agree that he is their treasurer, he'll tally up the values of the items they've collected and determine the overall amount if various items are sold...
OOC - Thx for te XP and Hero Points and the fun adventure! Can't wait to see what's next!

OOC- I'd be happy to draw up a map of the area and a map of the tower. If you want anything specific in the tower please let me know.
IC: Snafu was happy to see the new tower and settlement, but even happier to see Hoot comfortably perched on the top of the tower.
"HOOT, YOU OLD DEVIL, COME DOWN HERE!" he called out with joy. The owl immediately flew down and landed right on the head of Snafu. "Looks like you've been busy supervising construction, eh. I've been busy too. You see..."
Snafu went on to explain all of the details of what happened to Hoot. The owl seemed disinterested, but that didn't slow Snafu down a bit.
A shortly while later Snafu took a walk around the new settlement, pausing to greet and speak with everyone he saw. Never once did his smiling teeth wane behind his lips.
Finally, Snafu made his way to Reginald to formerly accept his offer. "I would be honored to train with the Connosseurs" Snafu said. "I've gotten a bit rusty with these blades, but aided by magic I think I can eventually hold my own."
Actions: Diplomacy- local villagers- 30

OOC: I am almost finished performing surgery on Kahlan... The Mount is almost finished. I'll post when I get back from the pool with my daughter this afternoon.
Tishe' (AC:27 CMD:19 HP 107/107) Monday June 6th, 2011 4:04:30 PM
ooc: Tishe' is pleased with her suite of rooms, a front room for entertaining and sitting, a back room for sleeping, and a small balcony that descends into the Sargrass garden that Falmar had planted. The floorplan reminds her of her rooms in the now-destroyed town of OddHolme. The woman will soon bring out her loom and other weaving implements to make the rooms even more homelike.
(Thanks for the offer to make the maps! Above is a general idea of what Tishe' would like to have)
Kahlan Palance -- AC 29/18/23 -- CMD 32 -- HP 148/158 Monday June 6th, 2011 5:41:22 PM
Kahlan finds a moment of silence and is deep in prayer. She pours out her heart to Domi, turning all of her frustrations and fears over to him. Towards the end of her prayer she recites an old poem that John taught her that seems rather appropriate given the circumstance.
"Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank my dutiful gods Domi For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: Domi is the captain of my soul."
Kahlan is calmed and relaxed and then makes a vow to Domi and John.
"Domi, I shall take up the mantle and continue your work in John's stead. Give me the strength and determination to persevere, the loyalty and compassion to defend my charges, and the might and means to bring to justice those who would hide in the shadows."
As Kahlan says the last words, she stands and takes a deep breath. As she turns around she sees a surprising sight. Not two feet away from her stands John's loyal mount Tyris. Tyris is a large warhorse, standing 17 hands heigh and weighing nearly 1700lbs. It's sleek buckskin coat glistens in the sun. Tyris steps forward and nuzzles Kahlan's outstretched hand. As they touch, they are immediately aware of each others thoughts, having established a divine bond through Domi and their love for John. Kahlan mounts Tyris and casuall rides out, seeking out the others of the Protectors.
OOC: Poem is edited and only slight differs from the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley

IC Kahlan prays to Domi for strength and finds it in the form of John's mount. The horse quickly bonds with her, removing her affinity to her Scimitar as if it never existed. ( beautiful transition) She rides the horse around the tower, finding the other protectors and introducing Tyris to them. The mount then takes his own head and rides a short way up onto Wolf Hill. At a point that overlooks the tower, the horse stops and nothing that Kahlan can do will move him. Through the bond she can tell that Tyris wants this place to mean something to her. Then she realizes what he wants. He wants John laid to rest here, where he can watch over the tower and perhaps protect it. Looking at the sheltered spot, Kahlan is forced to agree it is a fitting place for the Paladin. Thar and Snafu express interest in joining the Connoisseurs of Combat and Reginald is well pleased. After a day of rest he decides that Plateau City is where he and his daughter need to go. He would be well pleased if someone could transport them there. Once in the city he says he will fill out the sponsorship papers and the candidates will be summoned to their audition. Tishe looks over her rooms and is happy with the lay out of the tower. Falmar is accosted by some of the ladies of the village. When he goes to find the carpenter to get the fence put up, the man frowns at him. His helper is quick to jump up and explain that this is indeed the carpenter that Dondit stole the meal from. Falmar is able to apologize enough to make the man stop frowning, and once the plans are explained, the carpenter sets to work on the enclosure. Anything to be left alone by the ravenous Bounder. Edmund expounds on the tower and buildings in general. After about two minutes the Dwarven workers rescued by the protectors all groan in unison and leave, knowing that the halfelf will likely go on for some time, without even knowing the man. Later, they explain that the remaining work is mostly carpentry, and they are done. all that remains is to have some shutters and doors installed, then the tower will be complete. Snafu explains the entire outing to Hoot. While the owl does not appear interested, the messenger from Lady Dulcet takes in everything that is said, making notes as he goes. Once Snafu is finished, and any other of the protectors that wish to speak to him have done so, he mounts his horse and returns to Jarlwolf to make his report. The town is thriving and seems to be growing daily. It has a head woman already, a witch named Morgantha. She is personable, though disfigured by a terrible rash that covers her exposed skin, and one missing eye. She has the town well in hand and after she hears of the women dealing with Falmar and Dondit, she snickers. She is happy to have the heroes look after their tower, but the town is hers to care for. She expects to be consulted for any matter that concerns the town. After being consulted she will work with the heroes to make arrangements for their concerns.
