Edmund raises his eyebrows when Thar refers to him having told the others about what was going on.
"I haven't told them anything, per your instructions!" he says irritably. "But I didn't expect to be waked in the night for these... these... these... illuminations!"
With that, the sorcerer stomps off back towards the tower, stumbling almost at once because he is wearing slippers, and they aren't for stomping. Bending down to put them back on, he tries to regain his dignity and strides away, instead, declaring, to those within earshot, "Pfui!"

Tired, pumped, and no outlet, it takes a little while for Tishe' to calm down. Yet when she does, she is smiling about the romantic interest Thar seems to have attracted.
"Well, if all is well, perhaps we'll be able to return to our good night's sleep."
Still smiling, the witch follows her own advice, and waits to watch the Connisieur's contest on the morrow.

Thar smiles at Edmund and says, "You're right my friend and I stand corrected. I thank you for your discretion and help... I'm also sorry for waking you up out of your slumber but it was for good reason, I promise."
Thar also thanks Nina for her blessing and says, "Yes ma'am, I give you my word that I will be a gentleman at all times and protect her honor."
Turning to Helena, he kisses her on the check and says gently, "I've got to get back home and rest, as I've got a testing tomorrow. When I'm done, I'll come back and maybe we could go out for a picnic and get some peace and quiet? We haven't had much time to get to know each other and once I'm done with my business with the Connoisseurs, things will hopefully be a bit slower."
Once done, he turns and heads home with his companions. When he gets into his room, he prays a thanksgiving for his, Helena and Nina's safety, and then memorizes some spells, as he's got a busy day tomorrow and needs some rest...

DM - JC Aftermath at midnight. Thursday July 7th, 2011 7:06:05 PM
The morning dawns crystal clear, the sun a bright yellow, that seems to soak into the ground, almost like a slow steady rain. The three connoisseurs are up at first light, and Cindy informs the cook that they will eat after the testing, as it will work up a good hunger. The Scribe who arrived with them, calls Kahlan to approach him. As Kahlan presents herself to the scribe, the man reaches into his robe and withdraws a scroll, rolled and sealed. Also in his hand is a stylist. "Please extend one finger, I will need a drop of blood to unseal the scroll." Kahlan decides to extend the pinky on his off hand. The scribe quickly jabs it with the pen. It is indeed sharp and a it draws out a drop of blood rather quickly. He brings the pen tip to the seal, the seal alights in a flash, and the scroll is unsealed. "You are indeed Kahlan Palance, if you weren't the scroll would have immolated it'self. Now, let us see which of the testers you will be facing." Scanning the scroll quickly, he announces, "You shall be facing our lady Cindy Devereau. It should be interesting to say the least." He pulls out another scroll and calls out Thar ail Baerer's name. He goes through the same deal gathering a drop of blood and unsealing the scroll. After scanning it quickly, "You shall be facing off against Whisper, again it should be interesting." He pulls out the last scroll he is carrying and looks at it, then at Snafu. "You claim to be Snafu, it says here that the person I should be seeing is a half-elf. If I do the blood drop test on you and the scroll self immolates, you shall be forever bared from joining the Organization, are you sure you wish to proceed?" Snafu walks up to him and extends a finger"Snafu knows who Snafu is, even if you do not, test him." The scribe gathers the drop of blood and applies it to the seal, the seal absorbs the blood, it flares up, but doesn't open, yet neither does it immolate itself. He stares at it and just as he's about to say something, the scroll opens up. "You have my apology, it does indeed seem that you are Snafu the half-elf. You obviously know already that you will be facing Maxfield Hatzenbuhler, He is the senior member of the testers here, it will be interesting indeed."
He indicates that the group should proceed out of doors, once outside in the training grounds he stands at the top step so he can look down upon everyone. "The testing shall start in a few minutes, each participant has one minute to prepare and then the testing shall commence, the testing shall continue until the loser calls out he concedes. At that time I shall dispense some healing and then the next testing will begin. After all testing is finished, the testers shall converse amongst themselves to determine if the testees are worthy to be inducted to The Connoisseurs. If they are deemed worthy, then you shall be inducted by the leader of the testers. Is that all clear? Good, In four minutes the first testing shall begin with the preparatory period. The order of testing shall be random, will the testees please draw straws, shortest goes first, the longest last." He holds three straws and Snafu draws first, Thar second and Kahlan gets the remaining straw.

Everyone else, You can hear Almar quietly taking bets on the outcome of the testing, it appears from what you can hear, he thinks Thar has the toughest of the testers, even if he isn't the leader of the group.

Straw Draw Roll: 62
He sighs as he hears that he's got the hardest of the testers, but to add some humor, he looks at Edmund and nods towards Almar. He hopes Edmund gets the signal to take a bet on him... Maybe with luck they'll make a bit of money on this... Worse case.. they lose a bit...
(I'm envisioning the scene from Enter the Dragon where John Saxon fought the much bigger guy and his black friend (can't remember his name) took bets over the fight and eventually they made a good bit of money...)
For spells, Thar will memorize (the night before) the appropriate spells and cast the same ones that he did before the demon fight... Note with that last spell (Divine Power), he gets a fourth arrow with a full attack instead of just three (his normal)...
Also, he's got a few powers that go with his cleric war domain, and they give him a combat feat for x amount of rounds... He'll probably use this against an opponent that tries to hide or gain cover. Also, true seeing or other spells he has will be helpful vs. a stealthy opponent...
Finally, if he has a minute warning to prepare, will they allow him to summon a monster for help (Sum Mon V)? That's part of his SOP and a normal spell that he memorizes and casts early

Edmund makes his way down in the morning to watch the festivities. He has a meat pie in one hand and a cup of tea in the other. When Thar nods at him, Edmund raises his eyebrows and, after some thought, heads over to Almar.
"I hear some of the village worthies might be having a bit of a flutter on the outcome. I've got a fondness for clerics, and that Thar fellow seems worth laying a bit on--so, how about it?"
Edmund does some mental arithmetic in his head and tries to estimate what Thar would be likely to split. He comes to something not entirely unlike a reasonable figure.
"Think you can make out a wager of four thousand gold coins?" Edmund asks shrewdly. "On Thar to win, that is. The rest of the tower's denizens made a bundle in the caverns of the ratkin--but the only thing I got out of it was a lot of bruises and a smashing headache. I'd like to see if I can tip the balance back in my own favour."
Edmund grins at Almar, and adds, in a slightly gentler way, "Unless you're not a betting man, that is. In which case, I totally understand."

Snafu woke in the morning and cast his usual allotment of spells- Mage Armor and False Life. Once that was done he said goodbye to Hoot and made his way out to the training facility.
"Looks like I'm first" Snafu said a few minutes later, as he held the short straw in his hand (OOC- 27). "Wish me luck!"
Soon after Snafu started making his preparations, all the while keeping an eye on his opponent for any hints regarding the preparations he was making (Spellcraft check 23). First drew a rod and cast a quick Heroism spell. Next he put the rod away and cast a spell that caused him to shrink down in size. Next he drew out his new wand and managed to cast another spell (UMD, use wand= 34; success), and suddenly a white sickle made of ice appeared in his hand. He then put the wand away and cast a haste spell. Finally, just as the battle was about the begin, he cast a final spell that caused him to disappear.
"Thank you for this honor, Maxfield Hatzenbuhler" the invisible Snafu said. "I have trained hard for this day, and hope that I am for the task."
OOC- Tactics Option 1- If Snafu is allowed to summon, he will. Summon augmented celestial lion or two, then cast haste on them plus a quickened ray of enfeeblement on the enemy. Then move in for some sneak attacks (from invisibility and/or flanks).
Option 2- The invisible Snafu will lead his attack off with a quickened ray of enfeeblement, and an impromptu sneak attack with a scorching ray. (5d6 for sneak attack, and two 4d6 rays that will do an additional 4 damage each for my bloodline). Snafu will then use stealth to move to a new position. He will continue with this tactic until he is forced into melee.
Option 3- If Max goes invisible or uses blur, Snafu will attempt to light him up with his wand of faerie fire, so he can get sneaks.
Option 4- If things go bad and it turns into a grapple, Snafu can cast silence and still spells (three times each). He can also use Escape Artist.
Option 5: If Max can see invisibility, Snafu will cast mirror image on himself.
If it goes to melee, Snafu will draw his short sword in his off-hand and fight. The ice sickle http://www.woldiangames.com/Woldipedia/index.php/Spell:_Eclip%27s_Ice_Sickle hits as a melee touch attack. +21/+21/+16 (damage d8+12+ 5d6 sneak damage; Short sword +22 (damage d6+2+5d6 sneak) NOTE: The above to hit includes all of the bonuses from spells below, including the +2 bonus for being invisible.

Everyone quiets down as the signal to prepare is announced. Snafu summons a Celestial Lion, he then casts Haste upon both the lion and himself. While Snafu is preparing, Maxfield casts a couple of spells himself, Snafu can tell that one is an evocation and the other is an enchantment. As he sends in the lion at the very beginning of the testing time. Snafu points at Maxfield and a purple ray stretches out from his finger tips. It's dead on target, but suddenly, Maxfield raises his right hand and the Ray of enfeeblement shatters and never touches him. He then points at the lion, unleashing another spell, "Be gone, return from whence you came." And the lion winks out of existence. "You'll need to try harder than that if you wish to succeed in this testing." Maxfield directs at Snafu. Snafu casts another spell in response to Maxfield's taunt. He winks out of sight, casting Greater Invisibility. Snafu smiles to himself as he draws his weapons and rushes to get into melee range. While invisible, Snafu also casts Mirror image. Keeping his distance he circles to the side and moves in close. That is when Snafu gets the surprise of his life. "Snafu thinks you are more than what you seem, You have made Snafu visible somehow, Snafu guesses it will be left up to melee then." After that surprise, the two of them get down to some serious sparing, Snafu using his rapier tries to keep any attacks from hitting him all the while counter attacking at Maxfield. Snafu snuck a strike in on him and opened the back of Maxfield's hand with a riposte, and then Snafu sees the wound close itself, without any casting of spells, it literally just healed itself. All the while Snafu is doing this, Maxfield gets a couple longsword hits in on him, but is also removing his mirror images at an alarming rate. As the final Image vanishes, Maxfield does something with his sword and Snafu finds himself rapier less. Just as Snafu opens his mouth to say something smart, Maxfield flips the rapier end for end, offering him back the blade. "I have seen enough Snafu, I shall render my judgment at the end with the other testers." He almost has a smile but it again vanishes faster than it appeared.

Thar having seen the first testing is uncertain if he should summon something to assist him, but in the end he decides to go ahead and summon the Bralani to assist. He appears, looks around and then comments. "Is this some sort of trial? If it is, I will gladly cheer you on, but you are not in grave danger from the looks of what I see here." That leaves Thar speechless, he is suddenly aware that it is time to start the testing. Just as he starts drawing his arrow back to his cheek, Whisper opens the quiver on his hip, his bow almost magically appears in his hand.Thar gets off the very first shot, and his aim is true and the arrow from his first strike zips towards Whisper. Holding his bow in his left hand, Whisper shifts his weight to the left and deflects the arrow of Thar's first attack. He then starts trading shots with Thar, except at the beginning of each round he shoots two arrows. He also deflects one of Thar's arrows each round as well. The shooting contest continues until both competitors have multiple arrows sticking out of them, Thar many more than whisper, he was avoiding a large number of the shots. All of a sudden, Whisper makes his bow vanish as fast as it appeared, and the Scribe yells out "Cease fire, the testing is over."
DM - JC Kahlan's Testing Friday July 8th, 2011 5:30:56 PM
Now that it's Kahlan's turn, Cindy walks over to her and says, "Good Luck, it should be quick." Kahlan casts her spells, and Cindy does nothing, except to draw her rapier. It has a full basket hilts on it, and it appears to be made of gold. It matches the fine chainmail you can see peeking out from under her shirt and vest. The sleeves of the shirt and poofy (picture the three musketeers, but no tabbard), and make her movements seem strange, even though she is like watching water flow, she is that fluid in her moves. She nods her head as time is called, and she winks at Kahlan, and then she just vanishes. A few moments later, Kahlan, feels a stabbing wound in her posterior. She spins and gets a couple attacks at Cindy again, one of which does draw some blood. Then she once again vanishes. This goes on for longer than either of the other testings. Finally, Cindy vanishes again, but instead of appearing behind Kahlan, a few moments later, she appears with her other two testers."The test is over Kahlan. We shall have our decisions shortly. Scribe, heal her please, I've already taken care of my wounds."
DM - JC The Connoisseurs after the testing Friday July 8th, 2011 5:59:19 PM
As the testers gather together, off to the side, Everyone else gathers around to discuss what just happened. Almar can be heard, "Just how are we supposed to declare a winner with those results. All bets are null and void, collect your bet now, or later on today. Any not collected become the property of me, since I'm the one making the odds."
Conversations soon turn into serious discussions over the tactics and spells used during the tests. The one most discussed is Snafu's test, some are saying that Maxfield has to be a Paladin, others say he's a Priest, none of you can determine just what he did. He obviously cast a dismissal to get ride of the lion, and someone mentions dispel magic being used to counter the ray, but the last effect, Snafu becoming visible stumps everyone.
The discussion ceases when the three return from their discussions. Maxfield says, "Snafu, I deem you acceptable, I just needed to see how you fought up close, we are the Connoisseurs of Combat after all. After you got past all the trickery, you did well, well enough that we welcome you." He hands Snafu a small coin, that is similar in size to a gold piece, only it has a coat of arms on one side and a looking glass on the other. "It is your sign of belonging and indicates your level of membership. You also have the duties of paying your membership dues. Welcome to the Club."
Whisper steps in front of Thar, he holds out a coin, that is the duplicate of the one Snafu received. He still says nothing, just nods and then steps back.
Cindy steps up to Kahlan, "You showed little fear, it wasn't that you are a lunatic, you just know your limits on the field of battle. Many of those I've tested, have yelled out, You Cheat, or some sense of that line of comments. You accepted that you were sparing with me, and accepted the fate, you did well. Not the best that I've seen, but you did well none the less. Welcome to the Club." She holds out a coin for Kahlan as well.
The Scribe not to be out done now speaks up. "The three of you need to sign the register, and pay your dues, paying in advance would probably be the best Idea. We will remain here, well, at least I'll remain here for the remainder of the day, the others may have places to be."
(Thus ends the Connoisseurs encounter, feel free to ask questions, I may answer them, then again, maybe not.)

OOC John's post will address this too but the way I read the organization is you are admitted at the lowest rank and you can only progress with an adventure or a year going by in between ranks. So you would not be able to " buy up" to your level right away, you have to earn it in their eyes.

It is almost twilight when one of the hunters, who just returned with a buck for his family appears at the Keep, he speaks quietly with Almar and is directed to the group, who are seated, still at the table, having just eaten dinner.
