From the cold frown on Dagada's face, it doesn't appear that any of Lemick's skills in diplomacy has had an effect.
Peza sees and warns her companions about the others around the courtyard. She then calls to the swordsmen that HER friends won't be disrespected. And she loads her crossbow to back up her words.
Brom wakes and sees bullies. And he knows how to take care of bullies! Rushing the centaur, he howls and plants a fist up against the haughty face!
Harvest carefully, carefully traces the map, rewriting several times until she gets it right. As soon as she is done, Harvest raises her head and finds Crag leaving the room, following the sound of alarmed voices out in the courtyard!
Leapold sees the druid, half-orc, and half-elf easily. What is more, his sharp eyes see a gnome, dwarf, and another human who are under an awning by the stables. Their mannerisms make Leapold mark them as 'participants', and not 'onlookers', and he senses that their motivations are hostile to the novice WLAers. While he worries about jail, he tries to think of others first, and looks around (and spots) some firewood that will make a good cudgel.
Gerox tries to defuse things, but with Brom's fist and Peza's crossbow, his words have little impact. All the gnome is certain of is that these humans don't seem worried about Barratore and his 8 feet of steel. And that is worrisome. (ooc: PCB -"Diplomacy is generally ineffective in combat and against creatures that intend to harm you or your allies in the immediate future.")
"Iron Shot " Tom checks his companions, but is committed to his course. Trying to time it right, he fires a fist at the one called 'Duff', but it glances off an armored shoulder. Duff and the other human can't retaliate immediately, for they aren't highly trained in unarmed combat themselves.
Crag hears the commotion in the courtyard, and goes out to see what's going on. Shaking his shaggy head, the dwarf goes to back up Brom and Tom, and the two seemingly backing up the two strangers. (ooc: anyone want to post for Crag while Chris J is gone for the next 2 weeks? CS is on Woldipedia and in Posted Link. Makes it easy, yes?) .............. Peza pulls her crossbow and a scullery maid screams before running back into the Inn. Others quickly take up the call, and soon there are frightened people running about, diving for cover, and running down the hill wildly calling. "The Watch! The Watch! Heellp!!!" There only seem to be a few who are NOT fleeing the courtyard, shuttering windows, or pulling the stable door closed. And those few are closing in on the novice adventurers...
Dagada the Centaur rears up and meets Broms attacks with several of his own, although, still dazed by the blow to the head, his fist and both hooves miss the raging human.
Duff the 1st Human grins ferrally. "Ah, you want to play? I can make you eat dirt if you want." A roundhouse right misses the well-armored Tom.
His partner human, still unnamed, laughs at Peza and looks at Gerox. "You have girls? And I thought she was just a hooker!" He takes a swipe at Gerox, but is laughing too hard to really aim.
"Now, now Missy", calls the insolent voice of the half-elf on the roof to Peza, "you don't want to visit the undertaker, do you? Merrowind! Marek! Make her put down her toy!" The half-elf doesn't move from his sprawl on the roof of the stable.
The druid, proving to be Merrowind, launches a cantrip at Peza, and a flash of light strobes in front of her eyes. (Peza make Fort DC 13 or be Dazzled: -1 attack rolls and Perception checks for 10 rounds)
The half-orc, called Marek, is more direct. Holding a pinch of something in his hand, he casts a spell directly in front of Peza! Two running Inn guests are nearby and fall to the ground, sleeping. Peza and Lemick may also be affected! [/b] (Will DC 14 or go to Sleep)
From the stable area, three more adventurer looking people that Leapold has spotted step out.
The dwarf rolls his eyes and shakes his shaggy beard at the half-elf's antics, but moves over to confront Crag stepping out of the Inn. "You should stay here with me and not get involved, brother", he advises Crag.
The gnome just giggles and capers about. "Tawl and Stoor on another whirlwind adventure, how grand!", the purple-haired gnome announces, which makes the dwarf roll his eyes again.
The unarmored human hesitates, but watches Barratore, a spell ready on his lips. ..............

With her nose leading the way, for all the Wold as though scenting for danger ahead, Harvest Moon follows, as Crag Hammerfist exits the inn in the direction of the excited noises. She appears in the doorway just in time to see a man of orcish features point at Peza. Harvest Moon's eyes go wide with shock and horror as both Peza and several around her fall to the earth to move no more.
"BLOOD AND STUMP!" the growled curse rips from the throat of the small half-elfish girl, in near complete contradiction to her small and delicate mien. "You hurt my friend. I'll hurt you." Her charge begins with steady and deliberate steps, but picks up speed as she goes. But, in her anger, Harvest Moon misjudges the place at which the orcish one stands, and the swing of her fist strikes nothing but air.

Bah it mattered not, well it mattered that the Watch was being called for and that someone was going to jail, but again "BAH!"
Barratore strides towards the two armored men, "You are inferior pissbags, who cannot recognize women when you see them!" gesturing to Peza and Harvest as he does and then adds loudly "as you only have loved each other!"

Harvest Moon follows Crag and exits the inn just in time to see Peza and several others fall to the earth! She curses and charges, straight as an arrow to the orcish caster standing in the gate. With no one holding weapons, she is able to get there without anyone doing anything more than staring at this little rag doll running through a melee. Yet in her anger, she doesn't take careful aim and misses the caster.
Lemick is still wondering whether the bump is intentional and what to make of this fight when he yawns and face plants in the ground.
Brom, full of fight, gleefully swings at the centaur, but misses. Not content with not landing a blow, he attempts to land a verbal one. The horse-man doesn't look happy.
Crag ignores the other dwarf, takes in the scene in the courtyard, and decides to join in. He side steps the dwarf and spreads a create water on as many people as he can to create a downpour! Peza and Lemick are too far apart to both get (2 gallons spread x3 the area of a container = about a 5' square), but Lemick immediately wakes up, soaked by the localized rain!
Barratore smels a set up, but the minotaur isn't going to over think this: "BAH!" He strides forward, leaving his sword stuck upright between two flagstones and lays into them verbally and declares a formal challenge. As Barratore stides forward, the unarmored human by the stables completes his incantation and a purple ray stabs the minotaur sending weakness through his body! (Barratore Touch AC 26, hit, -4 Strength drain for 2 rounds)
"Iron Shot " Tom continues to slug it out with Duff, landing a good right hook across his jaw.
Gerox squeezes in between the left gate-post and the sparring Duff and IronShot Tom. He is only 10 feet away from the orc and lets him have it with a color spray that catches a running guest and Harvest Moon who has just charged up! The half-orc shouts and drops to the dirt in the road outside the courtyard, followed by the bystander. (Harvest Moon Will Save DC 15 or 2d4 unconcious, then d4 stunned, then 1 more round blind.)
..............
The last of the bystanders is hiding in the stables, shuttered in the Inn, or running down the road. Two are sleeping on the flagstones near Peza, and one is unconscious lying beside the half-orc (and possibly Harvest Moon) outside the Inn's courtyard gates in the dirt of the road.
At the gate of the courtyard are Dagada, Duff, and Mac facing Barratore, Iron Shot, and Brom.
Outside the courtyard gates in the road are the unconscious half-orc and Merrowind facing Harvest Moon and Gerox.
In the courtyard is the dwarf cleric (Stoor), the capering gnome (Tawl), and the human caster along with a sleeping Peza; the wet , prone, and awake Lemick; Leapold; and Crag.
On the roof is still the grinning half-elf calling out advice.
................ On the Roof... The half-elf huffs in exasperation. "Don't talk 'em to sleep, Stoor: humiliate him!" and "Good job, Thandi on the 'taur, now put out his lights!" and louder, "Protectors of all Rum, eh? I don't think so. You are having a hard time just protecting yourselves." He starts laughing. "Some heroes!"
At the Gate... Dagada the Centaur continues to go toe to toe with Brom, missing with a fist and a hoof, but catching the barbarian in a punishing bruise in the thigh. (Brom takes 5 lethal damage from a hoof)
Duff staggers, but gamely comes back at Iron Tom. "It's not the first strike, but the last one that ends a fight!", he calls grinning. He steps a pace, bracketing Iron Shot Tom between him and his twin... and misses again. "Mac, a little help here?", he calls to the other.
The fighter named Mac tries his best, but it is hard to strike an armored opponent with only a fist, and also misses, though Iron Shot seems to be in a worrisome position. With Iron Shot and Brom being such trouble, Barratore is stuck with the most-unaccustomed feeling of being ignored!
In the Road... Merrowind steps up to Gerox and pulls a stout stick from his waistband. Menacing the gnome, the druid's rough voice is calm. "Don't move and no more spells or I will turn out your lights." (5 foot step, pull stick (move action), Ready to slug Gerox if he runs or casts)
In the Courtyard... The dwarf rolls his eyes at the half-elf (again), but calls back. "Alright Carlee, I'll help". Yet he only stands there, fingering a holy symbol that, being completely enclosed by the dwarf's hand, is difficult to see.
Tawl the gnome does a bit of a dance. "Hey you, Horn Ears!", he calls to Barratore, "HALT!" The word is a compulsion, and the minotaur has to struggle to not remain perfectly still. (Barratore Will DC 13 or lose all actions for 1 round.)

Harvest Moon whirls, turning directly into the fierce and stunning spray of colors. Her half-elfish face is contorted in a snarl, her lips are bared, and a growl rolls deep within her throat. In that split second after she turned and before she barrels into her attacker, a flash of recognition brings Harvest Moon to a halt. It is the funny little gnome who also joined the Woldian Adventurers along with her. Near him is a man with a stick. It is clear from the posture of his body that this man is threatening the gnome.
Harvest closes the distance between them in a few short shuffling steps. With a quick grab, she reaches out to grasp the stick and twist it from the grasp of the man.
"You! Go away! Why do you bother us? Why ... "
Wait. What was it that the man on the roof said?
"Who are you?" In a voice that dwarfs the small girl she screams out to the group of attackers in general. "How is it that you know of us? We only just now agreed to travel to Rum. How is it that you now know this thing?"

"Iron Shot " Tom announces there is no more time for fun. Since Duff and Mac have no weapons, Tom is able to disengage without a problem, pulling his sling, loading and flying a lead slug towards Brom and Dagada, missing both.
Gerox thinks this whole fight is a test. He moves towards the gate and looks to blast the Centaur without blasting Brom. Gerox finds the problem inherit in a cone-shaped magical effect. The half elf calls out the use of weapons a mist ises and as far as Barratore can tell the fight is over and all of them left. Barratore turns and walks to where he had planted his weapon and pulls it free. Barratore takes a deep breath and brings his arms out wide from himself and parallel to the ground and then slowly moves them over his head, where he grasps the sword in both hands and finally brings it to rest in front of him. Another deep inhale and exhale and Barratore sweeps the sword to the right and back to the left, continuing his exercises and reason for entering the couryard in the first place.
A snarl comes form Harvest Moon's mouth such that one might expect the small half-elven girl to lean into the offending human man and sink her teeth into his thigh as he begins going about weaving his magic spell.
She shrinks back in alarm as the strange mist rises up out of the ground. But, as the man begins to move away, Harvest moves to restrain him. Her hand reaches for his arm to throw him to the ground in the manner taught to her by Thelonius. Her grip, however, is ill-timed, and the human shakes it off with ease before disappearing into a mist that must have been of his making.
"Peza? Peza?" In the white mist she is alone. Her keen ears seek the voices of their tormentors, but there are none. Perhaps they have run away. Or perhaps they are very sly and stealthy. And so Harvest Moon creeps through the mist of the magic man to find her sleeping friend. She had seen the other slim man waken to the water. It must be that Peza can also waken.
"Peza?" Harvest finds the prone form in the mist and shakes her shoulder. "Peza, are you well?"

He hears what the Half-Elf on the roof says and comes to the conclusion that they mean his group and the WLA in general no good. Leapold, being raised on the streets figures he knows what will happen next, that the other group means to use the guards and the law now against them. He thinks its time to confuse the issue as much as he can, spread some rumors among the people who witnessed what happened. Since he never left his bench people shouldn't suspect he was aligned with one group or the other.
Leapold blends into the crowd as best he can, moveing and talking among the people here and there trying to alter the way the remember the encounter by talking about it. He buys a few Drinks for people as he makes his way through the crowd spreading his rumors.

Brom recovers at the same time as the mist clears.
Quick thinking by two of the heroes creates a couple rays of sunshine for this otherwise unsatisfactory ending to a confusing fight.
The first is Leapold. Throughout the afternoon, the quick toungued rogue lays the foundation for some rumors. The effect is that his diplomatic conversations completely counteract the accusations called out by the half-elf Carlee from the roof.
The second is Crag. Following the sound of the door slamming, the dwarf goes into the Inn (where there is no mist) and shouts for the other dwarven cleric to halt. Stoor seems to consider it, and then stops running. The dwarf turns around and waits for Crag, clearly in a non-fighting stance. "I made no attack, brother", Stoor says to Crag, "but only gave advice and cast a spell to stop the fighting." Despite his words, Crag (and the others when they find out) has the impression that Stoor is not a hostile witness. He seems willing to spill the beans... at least some of them.
There is probably about 5 minutes to talk to Stoor before the Watch shows up.
And so what would happen now? This is a situation with which Harvest Moon has little experience. In her home territory in the Contested Kingdoms, when one party in a fight is driven off all conflict comes to an end. The victors remain and claim whatever it might be that began the fight. Here, however, the others seem to expect something more.
To prepare for this thing that the others expect, Harvest rushes about to secure her possessions. She straps on her pack and retrieves her polearm. From a nearby table she secures a loaf of bread and a big wheel of cheese. If they must flee, they would at least have food.
Seeing the other dwarf stop and turn to face him inside the inn .....Crag takes a quick peek about (d20+3=16 perception check) to look for the purple haired one ...

Gerox just sighs when he sees the wrong fellow get stunned. "Gonna have to work on that." As the mist clears and the fighting stops, Gerox helps himself to a piece of cheese and sits back and watches the action. He still thinks the fight was some kind of test to test skills and attitudes. He wonders if he got a failing mark. Since no one is really hurt, he doubts that anyone will spend any real time in the slammer but he still doesn't like the thought of even going.
"Maybe we need to get our stories right? It was just a friendly sparring session that got a bit to aggressive? Doesn't seem to be any real property damage so that should help."

Barratore moves through a few more motions with his sword and answers Gerox as he does so. "That is not how i would describe it. My version is two humans tried to goad me into a fight. I was attacked by magic as were several others and one of our number was attacked by a centaur using his hooves, a common and lethal weapon. Fearing the guard the cowards fled." Barratore spits to the ground as he speaks the last part.
"That my friend is what I will inform the guard wen they arrive." throughout this, th minotaur continues moving through a variety of attack forms and defensive stances and blocks.

Lemick stands lost in the mist unsure of how things changed so quickly from what was suppose to a nice walk to the docks -- bump, kick, sleep, water, look, mist.
He moves back to the shade of a tree to collect his thoughts for a bit, unsure of all the details.
Sparring at the Courtyard, Misty Endings (DMSteveK) Thursday July 14th, 2011 8:46:14 AM
Perhaps it was that the half-orc was felled before Brom, perhaps the magic did not work as long on the half-orc, perhaps his companions carried him away (but it is unsure how they would have found him in the mist). Whatever the answer, when the mists clear, the half-orc is not laying in the road. (ooc: good question, I was waiting for a hero to look into that :)
The other sprayed bystander and the two sleeping bystanders are eventually woken up and they shakily are taken into the Inn by the Innkeep himself and provided free food and drink... all the drink they want.
Harvest prepares for a hasty getaway. There is plenty of food in the small courtyard where the group had been taking it easy with Captain Theringer, and she can find several small loaves dusted with seeds or baked with fruit and nuts inside. While there isn't a large wheel of cheese, there are parts of several fist-sized ones both soft and hard.
Peza and Lemick try to make some sort of order on what has actually happend. Confusing.
Gerox and Barratore look to get thier story straight. The gnome is for brushing it off while the minotaur is set on being straightforward in his report.
Crag levels a series of questions at this other dwarf, Stoor, and offers a drink as well. This, Stoor readily accepts and even buys the next round. Through the next 15 minutes, Crag gets the following information and is able to pass it on to the others. "That group is called Carlee's Demons, and Carlee, the half-elf on the roof, is the leader. Carlee seems to get information from a source that I don't know about, but I think some of the others are in the inner circle as it were." As they talk, Crag is able to scope out Stoor and determine from carriage and demeanor that the other dwarf is a follower of Flower. "Yes, Carlee had his people wait around until the ranger was called away, and then they were supposed to pick a fight, and no one was to draw weapons. He wanted to make you look bad, incompetent, hot-headed."
It takes nearly 15 minutes for the Watch to show up (the crowded streets slowing them down as much as anyone) and Captain Theringer is hurrying in with them. Rounding up all the heroes and the patrons and staff who saw anything, the Watch forbids anyone from talking in the main room and then, one at a time, brings each person into the small courtyard to get thier version of events. Surprisingly perhaps, Captain Theringer is with the Watch leader, helping in the questioning.
"What happened? Who drew first? Who cast the first spell? Who was at fault?"
Harvest Moon (AC17/T17/F14; HP10/10; CMD 18) Thursday July 14th, 2011 9:50:52 AM
"I did not see the first," Harvest Moon finally replies. She had gone reluctantly into the room to speak alone before Captain Theringer and the others. It is, she has found, difficult to part with friends once one is accustomed to them. She came into the room with guarded looks for the panel of questioners. She still clutched her possessions, ready to flee.
However, stern as their looks might have been, though, to Harvest Moon, the stance and the expressions of the faces of the WLA captain and the others showed no threat or malice. So, she straightened her stance and faced them with the same respect that she would have given to Thelonious.
"I was in the small shop drawing a map, and I heard voices from outside. They were ... " The half-elfish girl tips her head to one side as she searches for the proper words. The crest of mouse-brown hair that hangs down from the front of her largely shaved head, falls into one eye. With a puff of air, Harvest blows the hair back into place before continuing. "They were voices of dislike. Voices of scoffing and ... and taunting."
"Crag had gone, out of the shop, before me, and so I followed. In order to see what it was that was happening." With careful thought, Harvest Moon reconstructs the events as she had experienced them. Gerrox Shale the Gnome had spoken about stories, and making them the same. But she could not but tell her own. To do anything else would be untrue. "When I came out of the door, I saw a half-orc. He pointed at my friend Peza. She, and Lemick the follower of Waard, and two other running people who I did not know fell to the ground. I thought that the half-orc had slain them. I was very very surprised, and I became very very angry. I rushed to the half-orc to strike him, but missed."
"Then there were strange colors that caused the half-orc to fall. I thought that I was being attacked by someone else, but it was only my friend Gerrox Shale the Gnome. He had made the magic. He had felled the half-orc. Then I saw a man with a club. He brandished it and threatened Gerrox Shale, and so I went to him and took the club away from him." Harvest quickly removes her pack and rummages inside, producing the club of which she speaks. "It was this," she says, holding out her trophy.
"Gerrox Shale went to a different place then, and created magic colors to overcome others. The man from whom I took the club took a branch into his hand and cast some different magic. When he did, a mist came up from the ground and I could not see very far at all. The man then tried to escape. I reached to hold him, but he slipped from me."
Harvest turns her dark gray eyes to the questioners, assessing their reaction to her story. There is a silence as if they ... expect more.
"That is all," she adds. "Then you arrived."

Tom recants the details of the encounter as best he can recall. The separate coordinated provocations, the encouraging from the roof, and lastly the extraction via three simultaniously casted obscuring mist spells. The one point he emphatically makes is that the first one to draw blood was the centaur, with his hoof. Before that it was a clean brawl. He adds that the the spells cast on both sides were not lethal, and meant to be disabling.
He hopes the testimony of this Spoor is enough to make it clear this was a set up from the very beginning.

A spell struck me from some other tiny little man and i found some of my strength gone, another spell held me unable to move and then the cowards fled, hidden by a magic mist."
Barratore scratches a cheek as he tries to recall something to add and then finally settles on, "The big human went toe to toe wth a centaur and was struck by the centaurs hoof. That is when I heard shouts of weapons. Who was at fault? The men standing at the gate started it."

When the others have gone, Gerox takes his turn. "Since I am one of the last ones in, I am sure you have heard this before. Barratore and went into the yard to get some exercise. I am not really a warrior but I thought I could give him some practice swinging at low things. Two mercenaries were lounging about and decided to have some fun with Barratore. I tried to calm the situation down but they wouldn't stop harassing him. Sometimes folks don't use the brains the gods gave them. Imagine insulting and picking a fight with a minotaur. Criminally stupid!"
Gerox pauses in thought, "Anyway things got a bit hairy and fists started flying. Then spells started flying. I believe a sleep spell was cast by the other side so I retaliated with my color spray. You have to defend your shipmates! I was tempted to use the more lethal forms of my magic but didn't really want to hurt anyone so I kept up with my color sprays. Not really the best choice in the area we were in but the best I could do."
Gerox turns a keen eye on the Captain and says, "Then a mist came up and everyone just took off like they weren't even there. Strange how that happened. Took some team work to pull that off. This almost smells like some kind of test? Check out our capabilities? To see if we would stand up for each other? Maybe we have some competition going to Rum who want to knock out the opposition up front?"

Not a moment beyond the inns doors, does this centaur and I knock into one another. I tried to throw it to the business of the streets, but the centaur kept pushing the issue and after a few rash words kicked me clear from the street into the practice yard."
"From there, I'm afraid most of it was a blurr. Someone was called and mocking from the roof, I was forced to sleep, was awoken by water. Others were involved, but so much happened so fast, I can't say for certain who did what save for the centaur starting it all with me, and the cat-calls from up top."
Lemick then describes the centaur in detail, but can only mention a few things about the person on the roof. Others, are even vaguer descriptors.
Sparring at the Courtyard, Misty Endings (DMSteveK) Friday July 15th, 2011 2:30:22 PM
Eight of the heroes give thier side of events to the Watch and Captain Sal Theringer. Gerox watches the WLA Captain closely, and is pretty certain his dig into being a test is completely wrong. Sal is not happy about the fight and wasn't expecting any problems while he was away.
They take particular interest in Brom, inspecting the hoof-shaped bruise on the man's thigh, and making more notations in thier report.
Stoor is interviewed just like the rest. When he comes out, he doesn't look any worse for wear, and comes over to Crag (and any others hanging about). "I'm taking a trip back up to Plateau City and perhaps find a caravan going to the Scab that may need help. I fear I have fallen in with the wrong sort and need to make some distance." Obviously not under arrest, the dwarf walks out the door of the Inn and is last seen going away from South Harbor.
Many others are interviewed and then the Watch and Captain Theringer are holed up in the small courtyard for another half hour. When they emerge, the Watch business-like take thier leave (although one of the interviewers smiles and nods at the WLA team). Captain Theringer pokes his head out of the door and ushers the team back into the courtyard.
When everyone is present and more food and drink arrive, the WLA Captain gives a run down. "My message was a wild goose chase. Seems I was deliberately given a false message so I wouldn't be here when this Carlee and his team arrived. It is no secret that I've been looking for a team for weeks and have had my headquarters here, so it would have been plenty of time for another group to be formed and scope out the Inn. I am glad that you mostly kept your heads and was not over-provoked; it made the explanations that much easier. You also didn't lie or embellish the truth, which shows good reporting. All in all", he concludes, "good job!"
Then the ranger changes subjects. "Sleep here tonight, in the tents. Tomorrow, go down to the harbor. There, you will find a sloop called the SeaSprite. The navigator is Artus Morindim, a WLA member an expert in navigation, and is expecting you. He will set sail in 2 day's with all provisions and basic equipment to establish the WLA at Rum. He must leave with the 10 ship Fleet of Fixers, so there is no time to waste. Be on that ship!"
I will not be sailing with you. This brawl in the courtyard has demonstrated there is someone actively working against us and I need to report and find out who it is. I will follow you in another boat, but I may be several months behind you. When you arrive at Rum, Artus has the authority to induct each of you into the WLA with all benefits and privileges therein."
His weather-beaten face looks at each of the young heroes around him. "What are your questions?"

To the captain ....." so what will we use as a base of operations ??.... will we build it ourselves ?? is something waiting for us ?? who will we report to ?? Artus Morindim ??"
"Why?" After all of the questions are done, Harvest Moon finds her way to the side of Captain Theringer. She tugs on his sleeve and looks up as she asks her question. "Why is it that you think the one named Carlee wishes to work against us?"
She had given the question a great deal of thought, sitting quietly and pondering as the others had asked their questions.
"Do you think that they will attack us again?" Harvest Moon says then. "It is something of Rum, I think. They wish some advantage of us. If they wished only to stop us from going, they would surely have attempted to slay us instead. I think that they only wished to shame us."
A deep dark frown clouds the face of the small half-elfish girl as she speaks of these things. She turns that face up again to the Captain. "I do not understand why, though," she says. "Yet."

He was so terrible at names. He looks at the others, Gnome, Tom, small girl, Dwarf, other girl, Waard, that guy that went after the centaur and the other guy. Sad Hopefully they would use names now and again and he would be able to pick them up.
Questions? No, the minotaur arleady heard the only one he needed knowing about. Where would they stay when they got there. Tents likely, perhaps within...and then one hits him. "Are we the main WLA representatives? Or will be be bunking up in some sort of compound with others?"
To the others once the captain is gone Barratore will have other questions and comments and a concern. They were provoked with the need or intention to be waylayed and miss the first sailings. Artus Morindim may be targettede during the trip in a much more agressive fashion. Without him, they don't make it. Tomorrow they should expect another attempt to cause them to miss the ship.

"Good questions all", says Captain Theringer with a small smile, "you have old heads on those young shoulders." And then his weathered face creases into a scowl. "For most of them, I only guess." The seasoned ranger ticks off his points by raising fingers.
"One. The message for me to go to town was a fake. Two. You were deliberately provoked. Three. The group was sufficently coordinated to have planned this for a while. Four. The group was inexperienced enough to make mistakes, not seriously overpower you, and had at least one deserter. Five. Using debilitating spells and non-lethal attacks could mean several things itself: either they tried to embarrass you by beating you to a pulp, or that they knew the law in New Elenna about drawing steel when not in danger of your life and didn't want to get in trouble themselves, or that they were trying to goad you into doing something rash." He lowers his hand. "Any of those explanations could be true and all lead to different motives for these Carlee's Demons. They could have been testing you themselves, they could have been trying to hurt your reputation so others will be less likely to ask for yours (and the WLAs) help, or they could have been trying to get you arrested and so miss the sailing of the fleet."
Theringer shakes his head. "Too many possibilities, but still only one cause. There is a group or groups that are actively working against the WLA and the Rum venture. More, the group or groups know about you, and at least one is looking for your downfall; by reputation or a more permenant solution. I see I do not have to ask you to be careful."
"Artus Morindim and the SeaSprite will sail with the Fixer Fleet. He has artistans and a few instructors and scouts with him in order to build a WLA Outpost and begin working our community agenda, and plenty of supplies to have temporary shelter for everyone as the permenant is being built. Once I come along, I will be able to reach into the highest councils and work our public agenda. You... (and he pauses to give emphasis)... you will at first be our only arm for dealing with those things that normal channels cannot deal with. You are, for lack of a better term, our only bonded, sanctioned, approved adventurers in Rum."
"You see it clearly. If you are not aboard the SeaSprite when she sails with the fleet, or if the SeaSprite is unable to sail when the Fixer Fleet sails, we will have no presence in Rum for the first 6 months of the city's existance. It will be harder, much harder for us to establish ourselves then."

She had listened from a corner, crouching with two walls to either side. Above her the polearm had leaned against one wall in the same manner as a lean-to roof. The things that the Captain of the Woldian League had dropped into Harvest Moon's mind like the bricks of a building that lowered and found their place, with each one the wall rising just that little bit more.
And when the Captain finished, Harvest Moon knew what had to be done.
"Peza." Harvest abandons her corner. Her things come with her as though a makeshift home that pulls itself apart and then goes. "PezaPeza. I know now what must be done. We must go." She takes the arm of the raven-haired human girl and begins drawing her toward the door.

She seeks any who would attempt to listen in or to spy upon them. Then Harvest rises up on her toes and cups a hand so that her words will go to Peza's ear alone, hiding the things that she is about to say from all who might hear.
"We must leave now. The Captain has said that this is very important. So we should not sleep in the tents. We should go now to the SeaSprite Boat and sleep there. We should be there to protect the boat. And we should be there so that we will not be late when it leaves.

But if others know the way, then the problem is solved.

With the interrogation, questions, and answers mostly all done, Captain Sal Theringer turns in for the night; he has his own room in the Inn.
The young team is left in the courtyard to decide if they are going to try and walk the crowded streets of South Harbor to the docks and find the SeaSprite in the gathering darkness; or are they going to sleep in the tents provided up here tonight and go first thing tomorrow morning.

Harvest Moon (AC17/T17/F14; HP10/10; CMD 18) Monday July 18th, 2011 8:36:06 PM
"Then we will watch well tonight," Harvest Moon says. She had not realized that time had slipped by so. The sky still appears quite bright to her. It is true then that humans cannot see well in dim places, and this is a fine and true example of it.
"But I think that we should leave very early. Perhaps then the streets will not be so crowded."
"If you cannot see, then I can help you. I see very well in little but the starlight." The thought of the landscape, painted silver under the light of the stars brings a smile to Harvest Moon's face, a smile that she quickly hides by clapping both hands to her mouth. This is a very serious time. It would not do to think of frivolous things when they might soon be beset by Carlee's Demons.
South Harbor, the City (DMSteveK) d20+9=10 ; d10=3 ; Tuesday July 19th, 2011 11:53:07 AM
The group as a whole determines it is better to spend the night where they have guaranteed shelter, dinner, bath, and breakfast the next morning. While a watch is kept at the insistance of Harvest Moon, nothing happens during the night. Many outside guests in other tents (the town is packed) don't settle in until the bar is closed an hour after midnight. Other guests, like the drovers and teamsters, are up several hours before dawn, beginning their day with thier animals and goods. All in all, it is only quiet for about 3 hours in the wee morning.
The group is able to make an early start and have a hearty breakfast at the same time. The One Mile Inn is prepared for the early risers with hearty bowls of oat porridge, fresh fruits, hard travel breads and a savory sausage gravy all to be washed down with good spring water or a light mint tea that quenches the thirst. Making thier final preparations, the WLA group sets out for the docks of South Harbor and the SeaSprite.
Even at the crack of dawn, the town of South Harbor is a busy place. There are already many jostling wagons and complaining animals, as supplies move to the big warehouses near the docks, to other temporary warehouses on the outskirts of town, or to the docks themselves to load the ships. Waggons piled high with metal fittings for building, tools, instruments, cloth, dried foods, and other goods take up whole roads. Herds of sheep, sounders of hogs, flocks of chickens, ducks, and geese in cages fill the air with sound, feathers, and smell. More waggons stacked with tar-smeared barrels keep water, tar, oil, or pickled foods safe from the seasalt air.
It is slow going for the group to walk the mile from the Inn, through the town, and to the docks. The cry of the gulls and the smell of the sea is strong today, mixing with the sounds and smells of the town. In a particularly crowded part, Crag feels a tug at his money pouch, and catches a thin half-elf with his hand in the cookie jar!

Could there possibly be so many people in the whole of the Wold and have they all come to be here all at the same time? Harvest Moon is agog and near to becoming overwhelmed by the crowd. There is one thing, though that saves her from falling into a daze, something that pulls her focus from the many many people and brings it down with weight and intensity upon one thing. It is a thing that her quick eyes cannot help but notice.
"YOU! You will not steal from my friend!"
Harvest levels the polearm at the half-elf, all the while backing in the direction in which they have been going. "You will go away. You will not return or you will receive a thrashing."
There can be no stopping. There will be no ease or safety until they reach the SeaSprite boat. With a eye now to the crowd for dangers or potential delays, Harvest continues onward. The crush of people is no longer so great or amazing. It is only one of many things to be navigated.

Caught, the penny-lifter looks even more non-threatening than first appeared. Of indeterminate age, the half-elf appears thin and malnourished even compared to other half-elves. The clothing is frayed at the hem, cuff, and collar and is closer to threadbare than not.
After a half-hearted attempt at squirming away (half-elf Escape Artist: 10 doesn't beat Barratore or Tom's CMD), he slumps in dejected defeat.
"I'm hungry", he says plaintively, "and I thought that rich strangers like you wouldn't notice some coin missing, and that dwarves aren't particularly observant." "I am sorry for visiting such harshness upon you," she says to her fellow half-elf. "Please take these things." Into the arms of the half-elf, then, she presses a loaf of bread and a small round of cheese, both of which she had brought from the inn, along with five coins of silver taken from her pouch.
"The good Alemi blesses those who show kindnesses to the poor," Harvest says, speaking the words aloud. The words feel good coming from her mouth and Harvest Moon smiles. "I am Harvest Moon. South Harbor, a Caught Theif (DMSteveK) Thursday July 21st, 2011 5:52:41 PM
The thin half-elf's eyes look hungrily towards the food and coin offered by Harvest, but he is kept in check by Tom and Barratore's iron grips. The thief looks bewildered by the threats turned to offers of joining them, and is most confused.
Crag casts a Detect Evil spell and does not see any aura of evil about the thief. Of course, he thinks, that if the thief is as inept as he seems, only if he were also a dedicated cleric of an evil diety would he show up on the spell. (Up to 5th level, only cleric and paladins show 'faint' auras... all other creatures show 'none')
Still, the thief notes the suspicions of Crag and some of the others surrounding him. He shakes his head vehemently at an offer of going on a boat. "I don't like boats", he states, "but you pay me and I can scout things out and tell you what I know. I'd rather earn my bread than steal it", he says rather petulantly, "but I have to eat."
It is such a startling idea. Harvest Moon stares with surprise at Peza first and then Lemick of Waard next. They might take him along? Without first asking Woldian Adventurer Captain Theringer? Even more unusual, they might pay the half-elf to ... work for them? This, in much the same way as one who owns an inn might pay money to a scullery for work?
That they might do these things of their own initiative? It is stunning, and Harvest comes to herself suddenly as though stunned. "But ... but ... I ... You ... " She holds up the armload of food and coin, pushing it in the direction of the half-elf. "You must take this. I wish you to have it. Please. It is my gift to you. If you wish to scout for us, then you may. But take this as well. Please."

South Harbor, a Way to the Harbor (DMSteveK) Friday July 22nd, 2011 1:15:48 PM
The half-elf is eager to agree to lead the group to the Harbor in exchange for food and even a little coin. "I'm called Magg", he tells Crag, "and I'm no boy, just a little on the hard-luck side of life."
Magg doesn't have to do much to get the group to the harbor, just follow the generally downslope roads, although he does know a couple of alleys that allow the group to pass up two traffic jams with oxen-pulled waggons.
The last buildings before the harbor are large warehouses, and when the group of young WLAers are by those, Magg is able to point to the forest of masts all along the wharves. "The fishing fleet and the Fixer Fleet are all in today", and then he adds unneccisarily, "it's a bit crowded".
Crowded isn't the word! Though the sound of water on wood is loud, the seagulls louder, and the smell of the salt and wind is strong, one can hardly see the water for all the boats in the harbor! Jinking and weaving through the stevedoers, merchants, fishermen, sailors, roustabouts, and others who all have business on the docks, Magg is able to lead the group to the foot of a large and long dock. The end of this dock has a large sloop-rigged ship nearly a hundred feet long. A fey-like creature carving at the bow-sprit and the pennet at the mast head with the WLA Badge prominently displayed is enough for Magg and Gerox (with his sea experience) to immediately recognize THIS is the SeaSprite.
There isn't much activity going on the ship, certainly not as much as the other large ships in the harbor. Maybe it is because the ten sailors are lining the gunwale and merely watching the docks. Or maybe it is because there are even more toughs with clubs lined across the dock and not letting anyone off (or on) the SeaSprite...

There may be many things that have been novel and hitherto unknown since Harvest Moon arrived in Plateau City to seek the Woldian Adventurers. This, however, is not one of them. A gang of bullies here, on the docks of South Harbor, is as recognizable as a gang of bullies back in the Contested Kingdoms.

From the words of the others, they doubt the intent of the bullies on the dock. They wish certainty. But the Wold is a place of terrible trial. If one does not make one's own certainty, one soon joins the dead and the forgotten. Harvest Moon follows with caution, hiding herself behind the bulk of Minotaur Barratore Steelwind. From such safety, her keen eyes scan the area for other such trouble. In particular, the half-elfish girl explores the face and stance of those who block the way with clubs. To her, their intent is clear, but for the wishes of her new friends, she must make absolutely certain.

The burly thugs slap their long hardwood belaying pins in their hands like clubs, a silent but clear threat against anybody getting too close. They are completely blocking the SeaSprite's gangplank. The sailors aboard the ship look very annoyed; they want to get to their work, get ashore, spend their money, provision the ship... but the burly thugs were blocking it both ways.
They turned their sights almost as one to the big minotaur who walks politely up and asks them to stand aside. One of them, a weedy blonde, looks a little green at the thought of standing up to Barratore. A tall man with black hair who seems to be their leader, however, doesn't blink an eye. "Sorry. "I do not think that these men are here of their own initiative," opines Harvest Moon aloud. A more careful look proves them not to have so much of the look of bullies. There is not so much of the look of enjoyment in their eyes.
And if the fact of hiring the would-be thief named Magg had proved of no other good, then it would have at least given Harvest Moon exposure to an idea that had before never occurred to her. It is an idea that now surfaces again. "I think that these men have been hired to prevent all peoples from entering or leaving the boat," she says. It is the only reason that would explain the lack of care upon the faces of these men.
Unfortunately, the experience that the half-elven girl brings from the Contested Kingdoms with regards to negotiations and the buying and selling of loyalties is severely limited by the extreme poverty in which she's lived most of her life. It never occurs to her that the motives of these men might provide leverage with which to subvert their purpose. Nor does it occur to her that, with clever words, these men might be tricked into revealing who it was who hired them.
Instead, Harvest Moon opts for a more direct approach. Sidling cautiously out from behind Barratore Steelwind, Harvest approaches the line of men.
"I have no liking for your deal." Harvest crouches near the thinner blond man while she addresses the larger black haired man. Drawn into a defensive ball, she appears even smaller than usual. The polearm, held high in the manner taught to her by Barratore Steelwind, presents a strong visual contrast. "Go back. Tell the one who gave you coin that you have failed." And with that, Harvest Moon makes a dodge through the line, twisting from the grasping hands that would try to stop her.

"They must be paying you alot for you to plan on being beaten bloody or killed, and then arrested, all while ticking off the WLA. I'll tell ya right now, as an act of kindness, the Minotaur here don't use no sticks. You swing one at him, he'll probably just kill ya."
"Let's be thinkin bout dis. You don't wanna die or rot in jail, and we don't wanna wait while the WLA gets a couple of us out of trouble for doing it(diplomacy check 7. It still hates me.). Crag eyes the Black haired leader directly "And you know you be getting dropped first. Your boys may not be so interested in getting killed if you ain't there no more.
"I'm only saying this because the Gods don't appreciate it when i don't even give you a chance afore I rain down their wrath on ye" he says as he fingers his holy symbol. "Tell ya what. Being in a pretty good mood this morning, and not wanting to clean yer innards off me armor and me axe later, I'll give a gold to each of ye that lay yer sticks down and walk away right now. Take it to yer family, go have some drinks, whatever. This is your last chance, take it or leave it."

Lemick spends a moment seeing how the 'tough guy' stance has quickly turned to swings. He glances back at those on the SeaSprite to determine how they will or will not involve themselves.
He does a head count, and currently wearing chainmail, he isn't happy with the odds while on a dock.
Sticking to the center of the dock, Lemick walks forward closing the distance between himself and the thugs holding his morningstar in his hands. "It this really the best choice you can make right now," he comments loudly clearly showing himself a priest of Wardd. "Are they paying you enough to have the wraith of two gods on the same day?"

Mixing it up with the Burly Boys d20+9=18 ; Tuesday July 26th, 2011 3:40:59 PM
As Harvest moves towards the gangplank, the thugs close ranks, making it impossible for her to get through them. She does find herself in their midst, however, having tumbled past the front row of boys. The six nearest hands grab for her to push her back out of the group lead by the leader. (Grapple Maneuver Check: 18 vs Harvest's CMD 18 - Grapple success. Harvest gets an AoO vs the thugs' leader - any damage will disrupt the grapple attempt otherwise they will push you back out of the group on the side you came in.)
Iron Shot's bullet knocks the leader's head. He put his hand up and touches his now bloody skull.
"Kill us?" The leader was at first surprised, but then grew more confident. "You wouldn't dare! The town watchmen would be on you in a trice if you did." he threatened with a smirk. "That's why me boys ain't hurting nobody too bad. Just knocking 'em about, like. Pain teaches lessons; but you draw blood, you draw attention." He smiles down at Peza. "We're making ten gold each, for every day that we delay this ship from leaving. That's thirty times what we make in a day of working the docks! I doubt any of you can top that offer."
Crag's warning fails to cause any shift in the group's dynamic, the leader standing there with his confident smirk. His face falls a little when Brom lays into one of his boys, giving him a mighty wallop that makes him stagger back a step or two before being buoyed upright by his friends.
The other boys are noticeably uncomfortable with the escalation of the situation, but remembering how much they're being paid, they steel themselves for a fight. One of them, a redhead, replies to Lemick with a jape. "We're being paid enough to thrash you if we have to! And pay for forgiveness from your gods, to boot!" While that may actually be true given the amount of money the leader said they were getting, the redhead looks a bit unsure, putting up false bravado in response to Lemick's intimidation.

She had thought the way to the boat bridge to be clear. Where had all of these men come from? Harvest Moon bares her teeth as she is surrounded. From the press a hand reaches for her. With a twist of her hips she kicks out at it and knows that it will miss. She reaches into the depths of her strength and soul, willing her foot to correct its trajectory.
*smek*
With a meaty slap her foot kicks away the reaching hand, delivering stinging pain in the process.
The half-elven girl attempts a rush for the space between her attackers, but finds the space too small. Instead, she weaves in a dance within the midst of the attackers, seeking to avoid their blows while making small attacks of her own. The first such attack of hers misses its mark. He continues "I bet he hasn't paid you a copper piece yet, and he never will either. He's left you here to be annoying for a few days while he tries to get ahead of the WLA ship, he's also left you to take the beating the WLA is going to give out when they get tired of your antics. Do you have any idea how large an organization you are making your enemy right now? I actually feel bad that he duped you guys, so I'll tell you what. I'll give each of you 5 silvers to walk away right now. "Flee" yells Crag at the leader as he casts a command spell at him.(cast defensively. Book says it requires a concentration check, yet concentration no longer appears to be a skill. Any help here from those that are Pathfinder literate? definitely would have taken concentration if it was a skill still.)
Concentration is now calculated differently. It's in the SRD under Magic. You can find it here.
Here's what it says:
Concentration Checks and Casting Spells
To cast a spell, you must concentrate. If something interrupts your concentration while you're casting, you must make a concentration check or lose the spell. When you make a concentration check, you roll d20 and add your caster level and the ability score modifier used to determine bonus spells of the same type. clerics, druids, and rangers add their Wisdom modifier. Bards, paladins, and sorcerers add their Charisma modifier. Finally, wizards add their Intelligence modifier. The more distracting the interruption and the higher the level of the spell you are trying to cast, the higher the DC (see Table: Concentration Check DCs). If you fail the check, you lose the spell just as if you had cast it to no effect.
The table says that the DC for Casting Defensively is: 15 + double spell level
And, yes, that makes Casting Defensively much more difficult now. The Combat Casting feat is now worth it.

Delay until initiative order of Bully Boys. If they haven't fallen by then, withdraw to position listed below.
Position: P-18 (15ft move)
Expended: Hero Point 1
Crag Hammerfist AC: 18, HP: 11/11, CMD: 13 Sunday July 31st, 2011 9:05:15 AM
If any of the remaining thugs are still conscious, Crag will move over to them, and prepare to knock them senseless in a moment. If all are unconscious, he will move into the middle of them, and watch for any that start to awaken.
Barratore Steelwind (Dan K) AC: 15 (T 11, FF 13), CMD: 18; HP: 16 d20+5=6 ; Sunday July 31st, 2011 9:03:59 PM
Barratore steps forward with a roar and swing...with nearly 8 feet of steel singing from its sheath. Waard, however hates Barratore and the weapon comes nowhere close to its mark. For all his size and strength , in reality it would appear the minotaur is only good for being pointed at and hit.

Hanging by a Thread d20=18 ; d20=15 ; d20=7 ; d4=2 ; d4=2 ; Sunday July 31st, 2011 9:21:34 PM Lemick waits for others to act, then moves to the fallen leader in case he awakens.
Peza laughs, by this point enjoying the exercise since her side is so clearly winning. Her own efforts at unarmed combat look amateurish next to Harvest, and that makes her think.
Gerox Moves over and manages quite nicely to position another Color Spray on the three remaining toughs, but two of them seem to have shaken it off.
Brom's hard fist lands into BB2's face like a warhammer, sending out a great spray of blood from his broken nose. The thug drops like a stone, the blood seeping from his broken face and staining the left sleeve of his brown homespun more and more red.
Two city guards, who had been watching the tussle from the end of the doc and rather enjoying it as a bit of sport, run down the dock at seeing Brom nearly take BB2's head off. Their bit of sport watching two groups of people knock each other about has just possibly turned into a murder on the docks. They had watched the two groups posturing and trading fists and thought it was a simple scuffle, but at the rate BB2 is bleeding, they have become exceedingly wary of Brom.
Harvest moves back from the gangplank to escape the thug still staring at her across his club.
Crag moves up to BB6, the only thug still standing.
The City Guards cry out at Brom. "Stand down, or we will be forced to subdue you!"
Perception DC10: Highlight to display spoiler: {The guards look angry, and are exceedingly well armed and armored compared to the thugs you've been fighting. They have a grizzled look that speaks of long service and experience.}
Sense Motive DC15: Highlight to display spoiler: {Although the guards seem very angry that their sport has turned into work, the guards seem the honest and fair type. They wouldn't have lasted long working the docks beat if they didn't know how to let little things like a brawl go... but if that thug dies because of Brom's beating, it will be a murder charge, and that they will take much more seriously.}
BB6, seeing the city guards have come into it, throws down his club and steps away from Peza and Crag.
"Iron Shot " Tom | HP 11/11 | AC 18/13/14 | CMD 18 Character Sheet (Troy) Sunday July 31st, 2011 9:43:43 PM
Iron Shot lowers his sling and stands easy. He calls out to Lemick "Hey can you do that healing thing over here, this one looks like death warmed over."
He points at the heavily bleeding thug on the ground.
Not having any healing ability, he lets the healers do their thing while he answers any guards questions.
Harvest Moon (AC17/T17/F14; HP0/10; CMD 18) - Al d20+8=18 ; Sunday July 31st, 2011 10:06:31 PM
There is much pain, from her hip and her side. If she should move incautiously, the resulting pain will surely bring the dark of unconsciousness. From the deck of the boat, Harvest Moon fights to focus her senses. She peeks over the rail, her hands pressed to the wood. To survive in the Contested Kingdom is either to be very strong and take from others, or it is to be clever and watchful, and to know what the strong will do even before they know that they will do it.
"Peza," Harvest Moon calls out. "That man, he must live. If he does not, the Guardsmen will be very very angry! He must live!"

Perception AutoSuccess (Minimum roll of 11) Sense Motive 18
Brom sees the man collapse to the ground and can see the damage his fist did. The bulging veins and clenched teeth give way to wide-eyed panic. "Not again . . . not again." He drops down to the man begins to attempt to stop the man from dying (heal check DC12).
He looks around pleading to the others. "Healers! Get over here! Get over here now! He can't die! He can't die. . . ."
Fatigued (-2 penalty to strength and dexterity): 4rds
Lemick 4-Leaf Sted/Anthony hp 9/9, ac 20/12/18 Monday August 1st, 2011 2:22:39 PM
Lemick seeing the fight ended and not wanting more trouble from the guards, rushes over to the injured/bleeding man and immediate casts stabilize on the thug. His motions are quick and true, luck holding this man from crossing over to Gargul.
Peza Monday August 1st, 2011 3:21:36 PM
Hearing Harvest's concern for the wounded man .... she looks to go to his aid .... but the big burly man is blocking her way .... even as he drops his club she ... waits as Lemick goes to his side and aids the badly hurt man .
" Lemick is helping him ..... you ok Harvest ? ... you need help ?" inquires Peza with concern in her voice ..... as she looks back over shoulder to the little waif of a girl
Facing the two guardsmen ... she shows them the open palms of her hand (Peza never drew a weapon)... and gives them a smile ...
Crag Hammerfist AC: 18, HP: 11/11, CMD: 13 Monday August 1st, 2011 7:03:06 PM
Crag sees Lemick stabilize the bleeding man. Should he not be able to get there, Crag will stabilize him instead.
Once the man is stabilized, Crag puts his shield on his back, and holds open his hands.
Barratore Steelwind (Dan K) AC: 15 (T 11, FF 13), CMD: 18; HP: 1/16 d20+1=17 ; d20=14 ; Monday August 1st, 2011 8:31:56 PM
A few cracked ribs, bruised kidney and several lacerations. Barratore takes in the various wounds as he sheathes his weapon. The guards shout and the minotaur wants nothing to do with them or the rest of this miserable day. He is about to simply move and head up the gang plank when the rush of activity about the fallen thug draws his attention back in focus. Here the group rushed about to save the wretch when he was about to begin piling up a true body count. No today was a horrid day and one he needed to put behind him and end. Defeated mentally and physically, Barratore just plops down on the dock
Gerox Shale d20+2=22 ; d20=11 ; d20+4=24 ; Monday August 1st, 2011 11:26:48 PM
Gerox is a bit concerned when he sees Barratore slump to the docks. He is unsure on how to help the monotaur. He couldn't even lift one of the fighter's mighty arms let alone help him up!
Gerox takes in the scene with the guards and realizes that this is a veteran group and they were not ready to try and tackle them. (perception check 22 natural 20) He isn't sure what their intentions (perception check 11) but he decides to try and defuse the situation. He heads over and says to the guards, "Sir all we were trying to do was board our ship and this group of miscreants stopped us. Isn't that illegal? Stopping trade at the port? Imagine if that became a regular occurance? Merchants couldn't get their raw goods in and finished items out. Food could become in shout supply. Even the ale could run out! This can't be allowed to happen."
Gerox smiles up at the guard and continues. "The good news is my victorious group of friends are boarding the ship and sailing away for a very long time. The journey alone is 6 months. I doubt we will ever be back to bother you again. These fellows were paid to try and detain us. While they will be nursing bruises for a while, mabye they deserve a fine. They were bragging on how much someone was paying them to try and delay us. Some of that money might even be able to be spent in a ale house discussing the story. All I know is we are leaving. I hope since no one was seriously hurt and we are using some magic to aid the more injured, you can let us move along?"
