(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 17 -- HP 0/11
Monday September 19th, 2011 3:00:59 PM

Toregan sighs in relief when the guards arrive and puts away his bow. "So that Mr.Bas is a member of a gang? Well, then we should definately get to cthonia as soon as possible. They'll probably be looking for us now." Toregan sits down at the table he was previously at and keeps to himself, seeing the rest of his group not in risk of death at the current moment. When Leonan speaks up, Toregan lets out small chuckle. "You don't want to go there now? Why not? The orc never said he would be there, but I do so hope that he is. We did not know what to make of him this time, and so he had the advantage. But that advantage lasted for this time only. Besides, now we see exactly what we need to protect the Trading Post from." Toregan relaxes in his chair after he finishes talking, though his eyes constantly dart over to the door and any windows near the entrance of the tavern. "That being said, right now we do not have anywhere near to experience to deal with a man like that right now. So to Cthonia we should go, to gain that experience and make sure hat Mr.Bas can never bother anyone again."

(Andrew) Henrix Sharpsword AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 11 -- HP 10/10
Monday September 19th, 2011 5:52:39 PM

Henrix hands the officer the parchment. On it is an accurate (though far from succinct) account, written in the neat cursive of a professional scribe and the long-winded prose of a practiced scholar. As the officer reads it Henrix experiences a brief empathic moment of relief as Heckle meets Poe and then another burst of joy as the birds reunite with Tack. This calms his fears about the plucky halfling. He patiently awaits the officer's response. He seems, as usual, unwilling to comment on the conversation at hand, but a careful observer would note that he seems unhappy with Leonan's analysis, while his face betrays respect for the ranger. Noting this minor slip, he wonders if the shared traumatic experience has made him more willing to socialize with his companions. I had better continue to keep a check on my emotions. Unnecessary verbal expression would only be detrimental...

Heckle talks their ears off as they hurry back to the Message in a Bottle, even at one point singing to himself, "We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard..."

The minotaur has taken off his shirt and is using it to towel off his head. The effect on his fur makes his head look like a scarred, horned Pomeranian. "We need to find a countermaterial to that blinding powder of his. The books never described the stuff as so potent....I couldn't see anything at all. He says he has shipments from Cthonia. Might be as we can find the countermaterials there."

"I'm not arguing with anybody. I just want to go home. This adventuring business is obviously way out of my league. I've never really been good at anything I've done. I thought fighting for a living was going to be my niche, but I just got crippled by an unarmed man in less time than it would take to sneeze."

Wheezing with the pain of his pulped face, Yngvar nods in sympathy with Leonan, at least he thinks it's Leonan, with one eye swollen shut, and the other crusted with dried blood he isn't too sure.

"They came in and started talking about making a business deal. We didn't know who they were. I asked for more information, and responded to his invitation to negotiate. Unfortunately he didn't want to verbally negotiate."

Yngvar raises a mug of ale and slowly sips from the mug between breath's.

Meeting with Henrix halfway to the Bottle, Tack says laughingly: "Actually, I've never been to Oz, but I hear it's my kind of place!"

He pulls two coffee beans from his pack and hands them to Poe and Heckle.

"Where are the others? The sooner we get out of this town, the better, I say!"

Yngvar tries to stand up, his head starts to spin, his vision goes blurry, and he drops back into the chair, holding the table white knucnkled while he waits for the dizziness to stop. Through the wheezing of his still broken nose, he moans "I don't think I'm going anywhere soon."

The Floating City Agressive Negotiations Aftermath
Wednesday September 21st, 2011 11:41:12 AM

The guard review the journal and then ask several party members for thier account of what happened. The men are interested, but nervous at the mention of Mr. Bas. After speaking with the party the pair move to talk with several other patrons still in the Tavern.

Tack returns and the group as a whole discuss the Trading Post, the offer of Mr. Randolph and the ramifications of what just transpired on that operation. Leonan is nervous perhaps a bit scared, this whole be an adventurer idea might be just simply more than he bargained for. Toregan feels that Mr Bas and his 'associates' are precisely the reason to take the Cthonia position. Mr Bas is in Floating City, Cthonia is the wilds and nearly 2 weeks away. City scum like him will not likely be going into the sticks. tack too is all for gettin out of the City, the sooner the better and hopefully tomorrow at first light is soon enough. Meranus's main concern seems to be the blinding powder that was somehow introduced. 100% effective and introduced into the combat without him seeing how or by whom, though the logical candidate was Mr. Bas or rather one of the cowardly human thugs with him.

The guardsmen never come back around to the group, but after speaking with about 5 patrons over the course of an hour, they exit. the guardsman who went to speak with the barkeep, headed into the back after about 20 minutes and never returned. The tavern is nearly empty now save the party themselves, the barkeep and 2 servers who are straightening up. The hour is getting late

Before the time skip
Toregan scoffs at Leonan's last comment. "I doubt that he really unarmed. No one, except for those monastary types, can hit that hard with their fists alone. I bet he had some sort of magical enhancement on him, most likely Bulls Strength, or even an Amulet of Might. In any case kid, staying here with the orc might not be the best idea." Toregan notices the guard nervousness at the mention of Mr.Bas. "Mr.Bas must be quite an influential character here. Have I ever heard of him? Or, that gang he's with? You'd think I would, I've been here for some time...."

After
Noticing that the tavern seems to be closing up, toregan gets the gear he has with him and heads up to his room. Stopping near the stairs/door/hall to his room, Toregan turns back to the group. "We might want to set a watch. Mr.Bas might be back, and if that happens, we'll probably end up in an even worse state than before. I'll take the first shift if no one objects." If someone does want it, he'll shrug and take the shift after that. other than that, he'll try to rest his bruised and battered skull and get some sleep.

(And if it might seem kinda OOC for Toregan to know the names of those magic items, he does have a +7 in spellcraft)

The Floating City A New Day Dawns
Friday September 23rd, 2011 12:16:32 PM

The group as a whole retires to thier respective rooms. A watch is suggested and taken up by several in shifts in the upper hall of the tavern. Quite soon the tavern is dark and quiet. The fire in the common room burns as a low pile of mbers, spreading a red glow and deep shadows through out the lower level. The long night though passes without incident or interruption.

Leonan has all his bags packed and ready to go. But his planned destination isn't Cthonia. Cthonia is what got him involved with this Bas guy, what nearly got him killed by someone whose very minions can afford the kind of magic that Toregan described. Leonan is sure Bas and his crew is in a league well above himself; this Cthonia business was too dangerous for Leonan. If Bas' effort was designed to intimidate them from working for the guild in Cthonia then it was clearly successful.

Leonan heads downstairs, still bruised, beaten, and wiser from the brief encounter with Bas the night previous.

Toregan wakes up with the dawn and gets up slowly as to not awaken his headache. A good nights sleep had helped, but he still feels a little woozy. He gets his gear together, sheathing his weapons on his belt, his bow on his shoulder, but keeping his pack at his side. He brings down all of his gear and sees that Leonan is already down. Toregan approaches Leonan and holds out his hand, as if for a handshake. "Kid, if you don't want to go with us we won't force you. You didn't sign or swear anything, so no one else can force you either. But you'd be a real help over there. You were probably one of the smarter ones in that fight. You saw we were outmatched, and its much better to surrender and live than fight and die, even if it hurts ones pride. If you're heading out though, I wish you luck."

Heckle, for his part, looks for the minotaur with mischievious beady eyes.

Blinking a bleary, sleep deprived eye around the inn, seeing some of the previous day's companions, Yngvar stumbles over and settles himself into a chair.

Waving a barmaid over he mumbles out a request for hot chocolate and a bowl of boiling water.

'Morning, I think. when the bowl of water arrives, he drapes a small towel over his head and holds his head over the steam. From under the towel he manages to gasp out are we committed to embarking on this ill-fated expedition after yesterday's fallacies?

Zach R (DM)
Wednesday September 28th, 2011 9:12:52 PM

The trip to the Wayfarer's Guild is quick and passes without incident. A large "C" shaped mansion guild house is visible at the end of Treelight Lane. The carriage stops and the elderly driver opens the door and offers a courteous bow.

Artrius Myphcim the wayfinder you met yesterday at your second meeting with Mr. Randolph is waiting at the gate. "Mr. Randolph sent word, he will late. If you will follow me though, we can get you all signed into the ledgers at the guild house while we wait."

He then begins speaking of his numerous trips to the Cthonia Trading Post and sounds rather excited to be making the trip again. "Can't wait to have a sampling of Bast's (not to be confused with Bas) latest brew. Wonder what it will be? Oh and Gazzy, can't wait to see that sweet girl again."

Once at the guildhouse, a butler comes around asking everyone to sign the ledger.

In all my years of dealing with Mr. Randolph I've never heard of anything such as this."

The novice returns with a maester. "If you will all please gather around. Huh, didn't work quite as well as usual, but you will all be a little better off." With that he lets several waves of healing wash over you healing everyone for 8 points of damage.

Artrius continues once the maester has left. "The ledgers are just protocol that is enforced by the city. We must keep track of how much business we do, so we can pay the proper amount of taxes to the city."

"Bast? Oh quite talented if I do say so myself. He makes some of the finests ale, beer, wine, and spirits I've ever tasted. He runs the tavern in Cthonia. And sweet Gazzy, never has one seen such a beautiful girl. She works at the tavern as well."

Artrius continues on for a few minutes before another novice approaches with a sealed letter in his hand. Artrius takes the letter from the novice, opens the seal and reads it. "This is from Mr. Randolph, it reads, "Artrius, please inform our adventurers that I will be unable to travel with you to the Cthonia Trading Post as originally planned. Yngvar rolls his eyes and finds a spot near the middle of the ring, he will stand facing out in a direction not viewed by his companions. He snugs down the straps on his pack, and keeps one hand on his crossbow, ready to bring it to bear if this is not as simple as Artrius portrays it to be.

Toregan also moves towards the middle of the ring, and faces the opposite direction as Yngvar. He then moves his bow off his shoulder and pulls lightly on the string, before pulling out an arrow and nocking it on the bowstring. No surprises this time. We can deal with them. Henrix silently questions his motives for this venture as he walks into the ring, trying to determine whether Artrius is lying. He glances at Tack, thinking that the whole affair is very suspicious and wondering if trusting Randolph and Artrius and heading off to Cthonia is really the best way to be safe from Bas. He also studies the ring, using his magical knowledge to try to determine if it is indeed a teleportation device.

Meanwhile, Heckle restrains himself and also examines Artrius and the teleporter from his perch on the wizard's shoulder, though he seems bored and restless.

As everyone steps to the center of the device, Henrix casts an inquisitive eye towards Artrius. You can't help but think he is being completely honest. Either he is an extremely good liar, as in, the best, or he is being completely honest.

The group waits inside the device admiring the architecture and curious how it operates.

Artrius approaches from the podium. "Alright, once I enter, they will initiate the sequence. We will find ou..." As Artrius enters the circle, green light encompasses the perimeter of the device. A slow humming sound is heard. Artrius grunts in pain, apparently caught by the device. As the sound grows louder and the light grows brighter, Artrius' grunts turn to a blood-curdling scream as he is somehow caught in the green barrier.

Artrius reaches out a hand towards you in the center of the the device.

Canopy begins about 100' and is 150' thick before the sky is reached about 250' above the jungle floor. Through a small crack in the canopy a mesa can be seen, hopefully it is where the Trading Post is. Mr Randolph said it was located on a mesa overlooking the sea. Also, while I was scouting I saw a large mesa, like the one Mr.Randolf said the trading post would be on, about 2-3 days from here.
