Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Tuesday August 2nd, 2011 9:41:03 PM
Alexi bring the horses into the cops of trees near the pool of water in a hush and as quietly as possible tethers them. He wants to get them some fresh water first but waits until a report from Garret.
"Well?" he asks in a hushed tone. "Seen anything yet?"

Zeph intends to land avis about a half-mile from the pool and hide it in some brush (stealth - 19), and thinks to everyone,
"If worse comes to worse, we meet back at Avis"
Zeph looks at Nagegy and pulls the flask of the Hermit's blood from his pack and begins casting Nemesis Insight.
He opens the vial and the spell causes the blood to emit a vapor that Zeph inhales through his nostrils and smiles. He thinks, Invigorating... lets hunt
Then, walking up to the pool, he looks around for any signs of serpents (perception - 20)
He taps his wand of Mage Armor on himself, summoning small black translucent plates over his arms and legs, draws his sword and approaches the pool and looks down into the waters.

Keela Wednesday August 3rd, 2011 1:56:02 PM
The ride is a little tough on Keela; they're going as fast as they can, which means a brisk pace and few rest breaks. She manages, however, and isn't too stiff when at last she slides out of Daisy's saddle.
She, too, approaches the pool, although she knows she won't be seeing anything the others missed.
"Should we detect for magic?" she asks.

The Pool -- DM Jim Thursday August 4th, 2011 2:44:21 PM
As certain members of the group observe the pool, they do indeed notice a ripple in the water about 30' to their left. Slowly, a set of dorsal fins rise from the water and then part of the body--which has tenacles attached. It begins to slowly circle the edge of the pool and is heading your way, from the left.

Zeph looks at the dorsal fin and tentacles and thinks quickly as to what the creature could be (Knowledge Dungeoneering = 26).
He realizes something and then thinks to Evred via the link, "Any chance you have a Mass Protection from Evil in your repertoire? If so, please borrow my Rod of Extend Metamagics

OOC: I'm going to assume that the said knowledge check for Zeph will be instantaneously transmitted to all via the link by Zeph.
IC: Fighting for the Maild Fist did not put Alexi underground much but he did talk to many a soldier and his mind races through such bar talk to see is anything related to the creature of the dark lagoon pops into his conscious memory.

"That thing was certainly not there before. Although I'm not realy surprised. The lizardmen must have found this pool when out looking for those escaped slaves. With limited resources, they figured putting a water guardian here would be more efficient than posting a normal guard. Let's not get too close to the shore until we formulate a plan to attack it. We've had two plans in a row work, shooting for a third in a row has got to be our destiny."

OOps. I forgot:
Alexi then pulls out his bow and knocks an arrow. "Getting it to come to us will be easy, getting it to plop itself upon the shore, priceless."
Alexi holds the arrow in readiness until word is given to attack.
Koko Dogteeth - AC 20/18/18, HP 68/68 Thursday August 4th, 2011 10:46:01 PM

Evred responds through the mindlink. I did not prepare that spell in my prayers today, unfortunately. Are we going to attack? It seems that withdrawing from the water would be prudent.

(Will save = 19. whew. But that's not counting a few bonuses to specific attacks.)
Zeph feels a mental thrust waft over him and thinks to everyone, "Anyone else felt that? This Aboleth is trying to play mind games with me. It's hostile. Retreat and try another entrance? Well, not killing this thing now will just mean we have to do it later. And it leads directly to freeing the slaves. I just hope this Aboleth doesn't alarm the AL Mathir of our presence."
He too draws his bow and lines up with Alexi, knocking an arrow and awaiting a consensus...

As usual, anyone counting on Keela to see or hear anything is doomed to disappointment [Perception 9].
She understands, however, the danger of what the group faces [Dungeoneering 22].
"Whether we want to jump in that pool may be beside the point," she says. "These creatures beguile the senses, make people do things. It's going to try to control us.
"I have one Protection from Evil spell, which I can cast on one person," she continues. "It helps against attacks on the mind. Who do we think is most in need of it?"

Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Tuesday August 9th, 2011 12:05:17 AM
Jet just laughs out loud, "Just because it's evil doesn't mean we can't negotiate with you it you idiots! IF you would have just held your actions, with Negegy, we might have been able to bribe our way past and avoid conflict."
Jet prepares his Ranseur as a piecing weapon and if possible, drinks a vial of Anti-toxin.
The Pool; Round 1 end -- DM Jim d20+10=26 ; d6+5=11 ; Tuesday August 9th, 2011 4:35:43 AM
As spells, arrows and even a sling stone flies through the air, Garrett realizes what was odd about the creature--it no longer was leaving a wake behind it as it swam, as it first had. His concerns about the Aboleth are confirmed as arrows seem to vanish into the flesh of the beast without leaving a single mark.
As soon as Evred casts his magic circle, a feeling of pressure was felt, as if something was pushing up against the circle and was being held back.
Then all hell broke loose.
A wild thrashing came from the groups right as the real Aboleth, not the illusion that had swam to their left, came charging for Koko. With a vicious slash, one of the Aboleths tentacles slams into Koko wounding him severely.
Koko: 11hp damage and please make a DC20 Fort save or be slimed.
Koko and the Aboleth are now in melee, so missile fire is affected as the aboleth is not completely out of the water.

ooc: After a brief discussion with DM Jim, Jet will not have his Ranseur but his Falchion in hand. Sorry, instead of readyling the Ranseur, he would have activated his scabbard of Keen edges, since he can use his Falchion in the water.
Jet dives into the water to help out the new member named Koko. He depends on his priestly skills to allow him to move easily through the water to get an attack in on the Aboleth.
Rolled to hit AC 10 (Natural 1) miss.
ooc: Crap, sorry, I have to run to work. I will post spells this afternoon.
Keela [AC 19; HP 54/54; Hasted] Tuesday August 9th, 2011 1:48:42 PM
"Wait, I'm not--oh!" Keela is caught a little off-guard as the fight erupts. Before she knows quite what is happening, Koko is hopelessly tangled with the creature and ranged attacks are out of the question.
"Drat!" Not quite knowing what to do, Keela casts haste on the entire party.
[As I used to say when playing tabletop D&D, everyone who's paying attention is Hasted. Everyone who's not paying attention is also Hasted, but they're less likely to take advantage of it.]

Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Tuesday August 9th, 2011 2:00:17 PM
Alexi ignores Jet as he knock another arrow. Negotiate means an exchange of something and Alexi isn't in the mood to exchange anything but arrows. However Alexi is inclined to believe that he is the only fighter ever taught to strike at a distance until no longer possible as one, then another, jump in after this 'fishy' creature.
OOC: how deep did Koko get? waiting for answer before cont. post.
DM Jim: Lets say 10' in and the Aboleth is diagonal to him to his right.
Koko Dogteeth- GIANT SQUID FORM - AC 19/T10/19, HP 57/68 d20+9=27 ; d20+13=18 ; d20+13=28 ; d20+13=33 ; d20+11=26 ; 2d6+6=13 ; d6+6=7 ; 4d6+3=20 ; d6=1 ; d6=2 ; d6=5 ; d6+6=11 ; d6=6 ; d20+20=38 ; 4d6+8=21 ; Tuesday August 9th, 2011 2:40:05 PM
The initial pain of the Aboleth's tentacles was nothing compared to the feeling that followed. This feeling, much like poison, extended beyond the wound over his entire body, and this made Koko feel uneasy.
Withstand he willed himself as he fought hard against the feeling. (OOC- save successful 27).
Slowly the pain ebbed away and Koko the squid concentrated his efforts on a strong counter attack. First he lunged with a bite attack that was somewhat clumsy, but his follow up attacks with squid arms and tentacles were much more coordinated.
Actions: -Save successful (27)
-Attacks: 1) Bite- hit AC 18; damage 13+1(cold)= 14 2) Arms- hit AC 28 and 33; damage 7+2 (cold)= 9 ; 11+5 (cold)= 16 3) Tentacles- hit AC 26; damage 20+ 6 (cold)= 26 + free grab attack (CMB check =38), if successful aboleth is grappled and takes 21 constrict damage)

Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Tuesday August 9th, 2011 4:36:02 PM
DM, ok, 10' in is how deep?
DM Jim: It'll be at least 5' deep because the Aboleth is not fully apparent and it is a large creature.

(OOC: Wait, so was my Will save to notice the illusion or to deflect a mind-control attempt?)
As the two tentacled creatures entwine one another in deadly embrace, Zeph's hands move quickly, thanks to Keela's Haste spell, and he fires two arrows aimed at the Aboleth
(Hit AC 25 and 19 thanks to the -4 from firing in combat. I also rolled miss chances of 15 and 44... not sure if you were doing concealment for being underwater. If either hit, damage is 4 and 5.)
His arrows are probably less than effective and he grunts and looks around for anything of use (Perception = 16),
He asks Nagegy, "Excuse me Mr. Hermit. To your knowledge, would an Aboleth willingly serve the Al Mathir as a guardian? Or could its presence be of its own choosing?" (Knowledge Dungeoneering =20)
Then, at one last attempt to be useful, Zeph shouts at the Aboleth, "You cannot fight us all! Give up now!" (Intimidate = 11)

OOC:DM, thanks. The first time we entered the pool, it's relative depth vs grade was non-important and so not given. However it is important now. :)
Since the depth Alexi will be in is only 5', swimming won't be necessary, but I'm going to assume that the 10' to reach the aboleth is difficult terrain, thus costing 4sq(20') of movement. is that ok? His base speed is 30 and with the HASTE spell that gives him 60' move, so he should be able to reach the aboleth in a move and get his attacks.
Note: AC reflects not using shield, but the Prot vs Evil and haste make up the difference.
IC: Alexi drops his bow and draws his longsword and axe as he wades into the fray, creating a sizeable wake as he plows the ten feet of water to the Aboleth. Reaching the Aboleth he swings the sword then axe at any portion of the creature exposed to the air.
Att 1 sword: d20 + 14 - 2(tw-weap) +1 (haste) = 17 probably a miss, if not dmg 1d8+7= 10 Att 2 axe+1: d20 + 12 - 2 + 1 = 25 dmg 1d6+2= 5

Garret follows Alexi's action and moves forward to the great creatures in the shallow water. He pauses only a moment at the sight of the fierce water battle and then realizes the depth of the water will keep him from getting closer. With a shrug, he lets loose another stone that flies high over the creatures.
OOC: I'm guessing that Garret won't really be able to fight in 5' of water too well... would that be a swim check or something?

Jet isn't as lucky as he closes on the beast and is attacked, one tentacle grazing him, as he swings and misses.
Jet, please make a DC20 Fort save versus slime, and also a DC20 Fort save versus mucus cloud
Surprised at the sudden turn of events, Keela quickly casts Haste on the group--improving their chances for survival.
With a call from above by Evred, a pillar of holy power strikes the Aboleth and Koko alike, but only the Aboleth burns.
Landing one arrow squarely on his target, Zeph asks Nagegy--who seems to be enjoying the show, a question, to which he doesn't reply because Zeph just as quickly tries to intimidate the beast to little effect (demoralize is a standard action and you have no actions left).
Jumping into the water, Alexi surges forward and slashes cruelly into the beast with his axe, spilling black ichor into the already dark waters.
Alexi, please make a DC20 Fort save versus mucus.
Garrett stands at the shore with the remaining members of the group and is satisified that the creature is in fact, dead. Very dead.

Jet comes to the surface for a breath. He is not pleased with the results of the Anti toxin though. He, cant breath air any more. Never has anyone seen Jet panic before, but he pulls himself up out of the water, gasping for oxygen as he struggles to get his chain shirt off and calm down, in an attempt to not panic over his new condition.
Jet really didn't figure out what the creature was, commenting off of others knowledge, so he doesn't really know what is wrong with him.

Fort save DC20: d20+9 +2(mag O) = 29!
In his hasted state, Alexi slashes around a couple more times before he realized the creature of the dark lagoon is not fighting back but drifting in a pool of slime and goo.
"YUK! SLIMMY GOO!" he exclaims as he quickly makes waves to the shore. He sees Jet trying to get his chain shirt off and, for no other reason than figuring that Jet knows what he's doing, helps his long-time comrade slip out of his armor.

Then he sees Jet struggle to breathe and thinks, Thats going to take a Remove Disease. Remember when I said one touch of the tentacle will send our invasion to a Grinding Halt? Same for the slime cloud.
Zeph takes a vial and scoops a little of the ooze into the glass and seals it with a cork for alchemy later.
Then he asks Nagegy, "Think this has some useful properties?"
(OOC: Yeah, we all started Pathfinder with 35k exp. Got 5k for negotiating with Eagles and people of Green, 3k for hermit and witch encounter and 2k for bonding with the witch, putting most of us at 45k, which is 6k away from Level 8 at 51k.)

Looking at Jet, he comments, "I seem to remember that unless we put him back in the water, submerged, he will die soon--since he can't breath air, only water right now."
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, HP:68/68 ) Thursday August 11th, 2011 12:56:19 PM
Jet lloks at Nagegy and then the others and dives back into the water, hoping the lizard isn't trying to kill one of them at a time, by testing their intelligence or lack of it.
The first breath is difficult to to force as it's not entirely natural, knowing a spell isn't there to help, but then the first breath actually works and he gives a thumbs up to the others.
He puts his chain shirt back on and signals to the others he will search and inspect the water area with Koko in his squid form.

Garret watches Jet slip back under the water and looks around at the others. "Wha? What is this devilry? One strike from that creature and Jet can now breathe water? I guess that helps get him past our watery barrier, but not the rest of us. Does anyone know what is happening with Jet?"
"And keep your eyes open. We may have been heard by scouts or guards. Koko, are you alright?"
OOC: Rolling for hps -- re-roll ones and twos, right? Geez, I sure hope so. (char sheet updated).
Koko Dogteeth- GIANT SQUID FORM - AC 19/T10/19, HP 57/68 Thursday August 11th, 2011 5:50:10 PM
Ooc- long have I dreamed to use an aquatic form... Fun
Koko the giant squid saw his companion struggling and decided to give him a hand by supporting him with his squid body, while reaching out with one of his limbs in offerring to Jet.
At first koko just held his position, but as Jet started to become more comfortable, Koko started swimming around. The pace was slow at first, but steadily he picked up speed.
enjoy the ride koko thought. jet might even get the chance to jet... Squid jet that is!
At this thought koko couldnt help but smile. He may have even laughed, but he wasnt sure what squid laughter sounded like.
Nagegy -- DM Jim Thursday August 11th, 2011 7:47:31 PM "I do believe he may have wandered too close to the mucus cloud that the Aboleth secretes--which is why he's unable to breath air right now. It should only be about 3 more hours before he can breath air again, unless, well, maybe not, but I was thinking maybe a remove disease would help, but I think that's only for the external application of the slime."
Big fish, little pond -- DM Jim Thursday August 11th, 2011 7:51:32 PM
The water is dark and murky, especially so now because of the recent but very brief battle fought. however, with his large squid eyes, which are very creepy to look at as they are the size of large dinner plates, Koko can see that there is little in the pond to attract his attention. He does see a few kothrul skeletons, but nothing else.
When he skims by the underwater passage that the others had mentioned, he does see that an iron grate has possibly been stone-shaped into the opening, preventing anyone--even a halfling, from getting through.
Jet see's nothing. It's dark waters with dark skies above and no other source of illumination under the water.

Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Thursday August 11th, 2011 11:06:11 PM
Alexi takes note of Nagegy's description of the mucous and its effects. He nearly laughs at the prospect that he also nearly got slimed like Jet, which, as it were, would have made traversing the underwater passage much easier.
As Jet keeps in touch with everyone through the mental link, news of the barred entrance discourages Alexi momentarily. However, mentally he asks Koko, Think you can use your tentacles to break a bar, or at least bend it?

Koko examined the remains of the pool for any sign of things of interest (perception 16). He then swam closer to the iron grate and examined it for any sign of weakness. He then wrapped his massive tentacles around it and attempted to bend or break the bars.
Actions: 1) Perception - 16 2) examine iron grate- I don't have the appropriate knowledge skill (i.e. engineering) 2) Strength check- current strength is 28 (including the +1 for level 8), so I have a +9 modifier and I rolled a 19. Total= 28! Come on tentacles... don't fail me now!!!
The Gates -- DM Jim Friday August 12th, 2011 2:30:20 PM
With a tremendous feat of strength, Koko rips the iron gate from it's stone mooring. Beyond is the long tunnel passage leading into the mines itself, however, it's far too small for the druid in his current state to enter.
As Evred wades out into the pond to inspect the Aboleth, he encounters the mucus cloud surrounding it.
Evred, please make a Fort DC20 save to avoid the effects Jet is currently under.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26/26/20 HP:50/50 Ki:10/10] Friday August 12th, 2011 3:09:08 PM
Garret watches Evred walk towards the body of the beast and thinks, "I wonder..."
He says out loud (and via link), "So this effect of water breathing only lasts a few hours? Is it otherwise safe? Maybe we could all just go over there and grab some of that slime and swim under to our goal..."
The Slime -- DM Jim Friday August 12th, 2011 7:39:42 PM
If you wish to partake of the mucus and purposefully fail your save, you can. Please take into account you won't be able to breath air for 3 hours.

Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Friday August 12th, 2011 10:40:58 PM
Alexi advises Garret against tasting the mucous. "Three hours is a long time to wait while we could be exploring. As it is now, with Jet waterlogged, we can still explore the tunnel towards the mine entrance a ways and verify if it is safe until Jet can breathe again. If too many of us get slimed, then we won't be able to secure the tunnel as there won't be enough of us in case of trouble."
Alexi then describes the winding, twisting, and branching passage from the underground pool to the main entrance. He describes how he had left marks with chalk and the Ratmen that lived in the caves.
OOC: there is no true map from the pool to the entrance at the front, however there is a large cavernous area where the Br. Bz. inhabittants had holled up just before they were teleported out. I'll do some research and sen via e-mail.

Mucus -- DM Jim Monday August 15th, 2011 1:21:49 PM
I need to know how many are, or are not, partaking of the special effects of the mucus. Jet so far is the only one.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26/26/20 HP:50/50 Ki:10/10] Monday August 15th, 2011 1:38:31 PM
Garret looks around at the others and shrugs, "Well, I think it will be an interesting experience -- and we've got to wait for Jet's to wear off, anyway. Perhaps if someone wants to cast the water breathing on myself and Zeph, the two of us can scout ahead while the rest wait with Jet. Worst case, the two of us will come running back down and dive into the water, and the rest of you can attack whatever follows us!"
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:74/74) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Monday August 15th, 2011 2:22:31 PM

Alexi did not want to be stuck under water for three hours and the prospect of having Garret and Zeph go exploring alone was not good. Alexi knew the tunnels better than the two and he had the advantage of having dealt with the Ratmen.
"If she is alive, their leader is a shaman and should remember me, Jet, and Keela well. Since we spared her life, that is, after a battle we healed her so she would not die and saved several of her warriors as well, she should treat us with respect. She may even know more of what's going on in the mines. She is the one who showed us the way through the caves to this pool."
OOC: there are the mine tunnels, and the natural cave tunnels. This part is all natural caves. If we don't get lost we make it to the other end where the mine tunnels broke through into the natural caves.
IC: Alexi ops not to get slimed and relies on his swimming ability, holding his breath, and the help of the ones that can breath underwater to make it to the other side.

Garret then sniffs the goo and makes a face as the stuff starts to take effect. His eyes open wide as he feels like he's starting to drown in the air, then he quickly moves under the water. He opens his eyes and smiles, starting to swim around, looking for the others. He moves towards the ruined grate and through it, towards the inner tunnels.

Passageway -- DM Jim Tuesday August 16th, 2011 6:46:03 PM
Several take advantage of the mucus, others don't; As the group makes their way into the underwater passage, they soon come to what they feel is an obstruction in their path. Not having any darkvision or light, they feel their way around it and find another passageway, but Alexi feels it's not the one they came down in orginally the last time they were down this way. Alexi's lung's begin to ache and unless he turns back or finds a pocket of air soon, he will drown.

Back at the pond -- DM Jim Tuesday August 16th, 2011 9:30:25 PM
It's not the way they had planned, but those that didn't partake of the mucus safely make it back to the pond. Nagegy thinks aloud, "Perhaps send a few out to find waypoints where those that can't breathe underwater can go to? By the way, anyone have a map of this area? These tunnels can run for miles."
Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 23/22t/17ff CMD 22 (Mage Armor) Wednesday August 17th, 2011 1:16:56 AM

He will head under with Zeph (and anyone else that goes) to see if they can first find a way under or around the blockage, then see if another passageway might lead back into the mines somewhere.

Trying to move forward -- DM Jim d6=4 ; Thursday August 18th, 2011 12:50:33 PM
After an hour of searching the winding tunnels, the searchers find several caves that could do in a pinch, but some are just too far away for a non-water breathing person to make. When it comes right down to it, the blocked passageway that the first party found seems to be the only way back into the mine. The blockage must be cleared in order to move forward to the group's desired goal.
Nagegy rubs his chin and thinks, "I can tinker one of my spells and make a passwall through this blocked area, but it will close behind us, so once in, we're kinda stuck. Those that aren't water breathing, well, it could get dangerous."
Evred does manage to get 4 vials of mucus for his collection and Alexi and the rest that remained behind see nothing else of note.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26/26/20 HP:50/50 Ki:10/10] Thursday August 18th, 2011 7:57:26 PM

Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 23/22t/17ff CMD 22 (Mage Armor) Thursday August 18th, 2011 10:06:59 PM
Zeph thinks to everyone via the link, "Either an elemental or Nagegy's spell would do well to move the blockage. There is no way they would expect an attack from here."
Then Zeph smiles and says, "I'm eager to see how you work magics, friendly Hermit Crafter."
He swims away from the blockage, draws his sword under the water and tries to get comfortable with the idea of fighting in this predicament, thinks to Alexi in particular, We don't know what dangers await. An Aboleth is dangerous enough, but I fear other krakens of the deep and murky. I would like it if your blades would make boots and matching belt of any underwater gatorfolk.
Motion is slowed. Then he thinks to everyone, [i]When we get inside, I will cast Wispering Wind to senda message to the Eagles and Sir Liissst, requesting they stay close and watch the mine entrance.
DM: the eagles and Liisst are too far away for a message spell... many hours away.
Addison/Zeph: Yes, but Whispering Wind would have a range of 6miles for me... did we travel further than that?
DM: no, but it's very unlikely they're within 6 miles, just sayin.
Keela [AC 19; HP 54/54; Hasted] Friday August 19th, 2011 12:29:06 AM

Decision made -- DM Jim Friday August 19th, 2011 12:52:06 PM
With the decision made to let the hermit clear the passageway, albeit only temporarily, the group embarks on their attack. When the passageway is reached, Nagegy passwalls it; a sudden rush of cold water hits the group as they struggle not to gasp aloud. Moving through the perfectly circular tube provided by Nagegy, they move deeper into the tunnels. It's not long and in just the nick of time that they find a cave to take a breather in--at least for some. One more juncture and they'll be in the mine proper.
Hours pass as they await the cessation of the aboleth's mucus effects to wear off, but just before it does, they move on into the last tunnel. Soon they surface in a small pool in a large cavern--there is a feeble torch sputtering off in the distance.

He is glad when the group surfaces and finds they can breathe air again. He says, using the mind link, "That was quite interesting, but I do believe I prefer breathing air instead."

Zeph swims with the group through the cold rushing waters of the cave interior. He takes in the scenery of the underwater passageways as best his Everburning torch and elfish sight allows.
Awaiting in the antechamber for a few hours for the effects of the mucus to wear off, he thinks of his combat tactics with his teammates, "So, we surround and conquer? Flanking fun and all eh?"
Then, as the mucus wears off, Zeph puts away his everburning torch and, slides out of the water and takes point, drawing his sword and looking around ((Perception = 27, or 28 for traps)

DM Jim: My impression was that Alexi had not mucked up his lungs yet, so when you say '...they find a cave to take a breather in--at least for some...' i take it to mean you assumed Alexi had not been abolethized, right?
So Alexi would have been out of the water for the 2 hours or so, plenty of time to snoop around a bit?
IC: When Alexi pops out of the water, he immediately notices a flickering torch. Odd, he sends to everyone with the mental link. There shouldn't be a torch here. The only inhabitants were bats. I'll look around a bit.
Alexi pulls out his Everburning Torch from his backpack and draws his sword. He slowly moves forward 10' feet. (use above Perception roll of 13), with anyone else who did not muck up their lungs.
OOC: this should be during the first few minutes of arriving at the pool.

Garret looks around and counts the group, making sure everyone is accounted for.
OOC: We should all be together in the pool with the torches. I thought Alexi had to take mucus to get through, but either way is fine. Might be nice for him to have had time to snoop ahead, but then again, he may be eaten by a grue...

OOC: I need to know if Alexi and Koko are 'frozen in time' for two hours while the others regain their air breathing capabilities. If they are, no biggie. If they aren't, then whatever is happening above water would be left up to Koko and Alexi. Not that the others can't 'hold their breath' as they poke their heads above water and look around.
But there seems to be a disparity in actions between the two groups. While Alexi and Koko are acting on the first rounds after reaching the pool, the others are acting on 2hrs after reaching the pool.
So what's it gonna be?
put Alexi at BL-68
DM: if you reread my post when you entered this cavern, you'll perhaps see that I stated the mucus effects had worn off.

Most of the group decides to move up, but it is Zeph that gains a most important vantage point. Stealthy as he could (penalties for movement), Zeph crouches low and see's in the dim light ahead, six humanoid creatures with long, sharp teeth, and pallid flesh that is stretched tightly over their starved frames. ooc: I should mention that casting a spell is not a quiet affair and requires it to be said in a strong voice, unless you have the Silent metamagic feat and use it.
If anyone would like to change their actions, you may do so because of this.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:26/26/20 HP:50/50 Ki:10/10] d20+17=35 ; Wednesday August 24th, 2011 6:42:19 PM
Garret nods at Zeph's message, even though no one can really see him. He says telepathically, "Sounds good, Zeph, see if you can check around the corner for us so we might have an idea what's waiting for us. Everyone else, be ready to charge in, should Zeph get spotted. If those are some sort of undead, they're not going to be interested in talking to us. But also, if they're undead, why would they need torchlight? I think there's more here than meets the eye, keep alert and quiet as much as you can. Gather on land over here on the left side, so at least they won't get to attack us while we're halfway in the water."
Garret slowly attempts to move towards the wall.
OOC: Moving directly west on the map, hoping to gather everyone that's still in the water. Stealth: 35 Re: Casting spells: Would Zeph's Rod or Garret's Tattoo (Brahmah) make any noise, since they are activation items?
DM: The rod would need a command word. The tattoo I'd be more lenient with and it would be up to you how you activate it; i.e. by touch or jumping up and down yelling, "I love pie!" :)
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:87/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Wednesday August 24th, 2011 7:23:05 PM
OOC: ok I reread the post. Here it is: {Hours pass as they await the cessation of the aboleth's mucus effects to wear off, but just before it does, they move on into the last tunnel. }
SO, I repeat my question. For those that are not mucoused up, like Alexi and Koko, what do we do in those hours? Inquiring minds want to know. :)
DM: the point is moot, we're already past it.
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:87/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Wednesday August 24th, 2011 7:54:25 PM
Alexi has had enough time to look around now and sees that this is definitely not the same pool they had used when they had left the caves several months ago. For one, it did not have a sink hole. Nor did it have that central pillar, where the torches were.
Through the mental link he says, This isn't same the chamber and pool we had used last time. Whatever caused the obstruction in the tunnel must have also opened up a path to this chamber while closing off the path to the other. I'm just saying this so everyone will know that we don't really know where we are."
Alexi grins in the dark. 'A plan had to go wrong sooner or later,' he sighs.
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:87/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Wednesday August 24th, 2011 11:07:12 PM
OOC: to argue a mute point, i just wanted it known that Alexi would not have, given the choice, stayed treading cold water for two hours if he could have sat on the edge of the pool and splashed his feet instead.
At least at the edge of the pool, with the torch light, he could have read his copy of the latest Mailed Fist Gazzette while he waited.
DM: I don't think you understand, it was a different cave that you waited in before making the final push into this larger one.
Evred Lazenkova AC 27/13/24, HP 81/82 Wednesday August 24th, 2011 11:26:10 PM "The undead? Here!?" Evred takes brisk steps around the nearby crevasse, making little effort to conceal his presence. "Come, foul spawn! Let us see how your dark energies fare in the light of day!"

Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, CMD: 20/22 Trip, HP:77/77 ) Thursday August 25th, 2011 1:05:21 AM

As everyone moves into position, Zeph speaks the command word to activate his magical rod and immediately draws the attention of two of the ghouls (4 & 5)--they immediately run towards him and he finds that he cannot hide while being observed.
Oblivious to the large dire tiger in their midst, the two ghouls continue their run at Zeph as Evred yells out a challenge to them--this brings the attention of the other ghouls and they come out around the corner to see what the fuss is all about and spot the large walking dinner on four-legs; They immediately rush towards Koko to feast on his innards.

Losing his concentration on a spell, Jet begins to sing a song to inspire confidence in his friends while moving forward toward the nearest enemies with Adrean ready to strike,
"Now your death may surprise, for you don't seem to understand." "Once Gargul has called you, then it's time to lend a hand, to all the heroes of the Wold, who seek not to see you damned" "On second thought, lets see your loot, you'll not be needin that!"
"Go on back to your grave, close your eyes and have eternal peace." "Oh wait a second, we'll lend a hand, our weapons we clean with ease." "Then we'll have more power in the end so our foes we can defeat, the invaders of Bryn Baraz are those we will unseat!"

Singing a rousing tune, Jet inspires courage in fellow companions as he moves closer to the battle that is about to be engaged. Racking his brain for any knowledge of undead, he thinks he may need to think about religion, instead of nature as these creatures look rather unnatural.
Keela on the other hand knows exactly what these are; Ghouls! Moving closer, the intrepid mage casts an Acid Arrow at one of the ghouls and it cries out in pain as it's flesh begins to melt.
In an almost frenzied state, Evred throws caution to the wind and runs forward into the midst of the ghouls.
A bit surprised at Evred's charge, Garret goes with it and rushes over to Koko's side--his little halfling legs moving at an incredible speed.
Warning Keela to stay away from the edge of the sinkhole, Alexi acquires an alchemical fire vial from his handy haversack and with shield in hand, closes the distance between him and the ghouls.
Chagrined at having alerted the undead to their position, Zeph runs forward and slashes cruelly into the nearest ghoul, spraying blood and ichor all over his wet, but once clean, clothes.
Making strange gnashing noises, Koko the dire tiger takes a few steps backwards--almost losing his footing and nearly falling into the sinkhole, and turns the entire floor ahead of him into mud.
Seeing Evred so close, the five ghouls nearest him lunge to the attack--the mud at their feet only seeming to slow them down just slightly. Their fetid breath heavy on his face, neck and arms as the ghouls bite again and again, but none can penetrate the Mek Zaklat's armor.
The ghoul attacking Zeph, bites and claws, but to the same effect--being unable to defeat Zeph's magical defenses.

Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, CMD: 20/22 Trip, HP:77/77 ) Saturday August 27th, 2011 2:41:12 PM
Jet supresses the urge to charge into the fray of battle but decides, something isn't right with this situation and he might want to be prepared, so he casts a spell to convince enemies, he is not worth attacking and slowly investigates the left hand side of the cavern wall to make sure the group isn't caught flat footed. He continues to sing for his friends, in the process.
"Please don't take it personal, but you are smelling very bad." "It doesn't help that you are all, wearing naught but rags." "Give Gargul our greetings, you'll be seeing him really soon, and perhaps some day when I am gone, you and I can share a drink or two."
"Go on back to your grave, close your eyes and have eternal peace." "Oh wait a second, we'll lend a hand, our weapons we clean with ease." "Then we'll have more power in the end so our foes we can defeat, the invaders of Bryn Baraz are those we will unseat!"
Sanity Note: Inspire Courage: To be affected, an ally must be able to perceive the bard's performance. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.

Garret watches as the ground turns to mud and he pauses a moment, considering trying to run through the mud to help Evred. He uses his mind-link to tell the others, "There's a lot of mud up here, I think you'll be better off going around. I'm going to try and get up here to help out Evred."
Garret squats down, closes his eyes in concentration and a dim flash emits from his body as his tiny legs spring out and he seems to almost fly over the pit of mud, easily landing on the other side, where he turns to face the undead monsters.
OOC: I think the Jump check DC is 40. I see it as 20, but without a running start, it's 40. Garret's acrobatics skill is a +26 (when jumping). He also gets a +3 for having a base speed of 40. Then he'll use a point from his ki pool to add 20 more to that roll. His total modifier? +49! Acrobatics check: 61. Wow. I think that puts him at BO-54.

Moving in closer, Alexi throws a flask of burning alchemical fire at one of the ghouls, but his hands are still too wet and slippery from the water that his throw goes long and bursts into flames ten feet beyond his intended target.
A bit suspicious and always wary of any traps, Jet goes to left side of the cavern to investigate and while giving another inspiring song to help his friends, casts Sanctuary to protect himself from any unseen undead--none of which he see's.
Responding that she'll be careful to Alexi via the witch's telepathy bond--by the way, where is that guy? She moves closer for a better vantage point and sends another acid arrow into one of the other ghouls and barely singes it's matted hair.
Wanting to try this for some time, Garret calls upon his inner Ki and makes an amazing jump over the mud area--nearly coming in contact with the low ceiling in the process.
Koko, seeing no means to make a direct attack, runs to the left side of the large column to attack the ghouls from their exposed flank. The druid also makes a mental note to plan better next time.
The power of his god welling up deep inside him like a burning flame, get's all but extinguished as Evred finds himself struggling to keep his head above the suddenly appearing mud at his feet.
In a spectacular feat of arms, Zeph cuts the ghoul in from of him into two pieces--making him very, very dead.
One of the ghouls flounders in the mud and gets sucked in to his chest, the rest descend on Evred. This time one of them manages to bite Evred visciously on the arm, getting through his nigh invulnerable armor. Pain sears up his arm as the vile poisons released into him threaten to take control of his body.

He does drop his shield and draw his bow, grinning that Jet's wandered off around the corner and can't see him.
OOC: unfortunately dropping a shield is a Move and drawing a weapon is a Move. :( But at least next round he gets two arrows off.

Holding his holy symbol aloft, Evred calls upon the power of his god and releases a burst of bright holy energy that incinerates all of the ghouls surrounding him--sending them to their final rest.
The battle done, the rest of the group gather back together. Jet has noted a very dead and very bloated human in the cage to the left of the cavern. It doesn't even look like the ghouls wanted a piece of the carcass. Also, the only passageway out of this cavern ends at a solid iron door. There is no lock on this side, but something is keeping the door closed--perhaps an external lock on the other side of the door.

"Think you might invest in some Jumping Boots?" he ribbs him, then extends a hand to help him out of the mud. "At least there's a pool of water here you can dip in before you go splopping around. On the other hand, hardened mud might provide you some protection, eh?" he ribbs Zeph again.
Alexi watches his friends go about searching the room. A good way to get to know each other better is to observe them. Like, he didn't know Jet was so fond of fat, bloated, bodies. Alexi grins.

With the battle done, the party immediately looks for a way out. Jet on the other hand is examining the very bloated, very stinky dead body in the open cage. He's not sure how he died, but he's about to burst from the looks of it's stretched skin--one touch would probably be enough.
Seeing nothing magical or anything to open, or disable, Zeph casts Knock on the ironbound door-- he is rewarded with the sound of a lock opening and chains running through the door handle and landing on the ground on the other side. Opening the door to check outside, Jet hurries through--his sanctuary spell still in place. He sees to his right, more dark tunnel. To his left, light at the end of the 30' tunnel. Garret, concerned about an ambush, decides to look back and up at the ceiling and see's nothing amiss.

I've heard Al Mathir cast spells before, and I know their language and thus their accents, so I should be able to determine who's casting if its them, eh?
He thinks to everyone: "They are preparing for us down the tunnel. Combat plan: First we assess the situation, if there are many, then I'm going to cast extended Haste on all of us. Then we assault. While jet inspects the bloaded body, Alexi has a mind to pop it with an arrow and see how far goo spews, but... it was just a thought.
Albeit Alexi's suggestion to Koko would have been more impressive, the Knock spell does the trick. Word of something perhaps amiss sets Alexi's mind back to the task of... well, getting through this thing.

They likely won't listen to him, which isn't unusual really.
He takes his ranseur and goes back toward the bloated body. "I think this is some form of undead also, waiting to take us from behind." He stabs the creature using the weapon with reach, in fact, he stands on his tip toes and holds the ranseur in one hand at the tip of the haft to slowly nudge it at first before he actually pierces it. DM: not a stupid question at all. It was in Mathirian. As some know the language and you're connected by telepathy, you all know what is said.

Alexi fingers his bow but decides that hard leasons are hard to learn if babied through them. And sure enough, what he figures would happen, happened. Wanting to chuckle and say something, the situation looked like it could be serous and he stays his tongue. Jet just could not bring himself to ask Alexi to shoot it, could he? No, but maybe next time.
Alexi sends to everyone throught mental link, This isn't a time to go chasing phantoms. Nagegy, you know where we are, bring 'em here and we'll ambush them.

Jet manages to not inhale the spores from the dead dude, thinking to himself, that's just nasty!
He doesn't stick around to see what else happens, but follows the others to go help Nagegy.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:28/28/22 HP:50/50 Ki:9/10] Saturday September 3rd, 2011 4:12:57 PM
Garret pauses his attempt to sneak down the hallway. He thinks to the others, "Naggy, you're not making any sense. You tell us to come help, but then talk about getting out of the tunnels. We're underground, seeing out the mines. You're going to have to give us a bit more information to find you, or you're on your own."
To the others, he thinks, "Okay, it sounds like whatever's going on up there is going the other way. I have no idea if that's where Naggy is, but let's keep moving forward, carefully."
Nagegy -- DM Jim Saturday September 3rd, 2011 5:27:06 PM Mental sigh; "Use the bond's power to tell you where I am."

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:28/28/22 HP:50/50 Ki:9/10] Sunday September 4th, 2011 12:25:27 AM
Garret says, "Huh? Naggy's outside? Anyone know where outside is?" He looks in all directions, hoping to see a door with a sign over it that says, "General Store."
OOC: Yeah, I'm totally confused. I have ZERO idea of where we are, where Naggy is, or where outside is. For all Garret knows, we're 1,000 feet underground in a mine. Or maybe 10 feet underground, near a general store. Shopping, anyone?

(OOC: If I see this in my mind's eye correctly: there's a fork in the road: one tunnel goes left and has a light coming from it. The other tunnel to the right leads to the outside where Nagegy has engaged the enemy. Correct? easy enough)
Zeph chuckles softly at the idea of purchasing some clean clothes and thinks to Nagegy, " Oh Pteradons? Did Sir Liiissst show up? Excellent. Signal the eagles too. Hold tight, we shall join you outside shortly. Looking for halflings to free.
Then Zeph looks down the tunnel to the left and says to everyone, "I'm going to explore this tunnel to the left before joining the battle outside the right tunnel, for I wonder if there are slaves to liberate. If so, then I'll look for a lock to pick."
(Actions: Move down the tunnel to the left slowly, peek around corner. Stealth = 17, d'oh. Perception for traps = 34, for anything else, nat 20.)
DM: Actually you have it the other way around. To the left is where the light and noise is coming from. To the right is more tunnel and darkness.
Addison/Zeph: My b ad. Tell ya what lets just swap my statement around then. I want to explore the possible slave-tunnel first before going outside to join the battle.

Alexi turns to Koko and asks, "Are you hearing anything in your mind from Nagegy? Are you hearing anything in your mind?"
Alexi figures that if this is some kind of spell, all would be affected and their enemy would not know that Koko was not part of the mind bond. He also attempts to disbelieve the 'voice' in case it is some illusion.

"Bother!" Keela says. There is far too much confusion down here.
"The slaves' situation is not likely to change in the next minute," she says. "The same can't be said for Nagegy. Let's go pull him out of whatever he's gotten himself into."
She prepares to follow Jet.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:28/28/22 HP:50/50 Ki:9/10] Monday September 5th, 2011 9:11:07 PM

Jet will stay just behind the two up front. He saves his silence spell for the moment. One never knows when it is needed and since he isn't by himself, the situation is safer, although he doesn't like the idea of Zeph leaving, he doesn't say anything. He puts away Adrean and takes a reach weapon, the Ranseur, to back up the guys in front.

(OOC: Well, I don't wanna split the group, but I wonder if a quick run and see would only take a few second eh?)
Zeph agrees that Nagegy's situation is probably a bit more dire, yet he thinks to everyone, "I'll just peek around the corner real quick and assess their situation. Best case scenario I could just cast Invisibility and pop a lock or two. If I don't see anything down the immediate hall, then I'll rejoin the group."
Zeph keeps his sword drawn and peeks around the corner with the previous rolls.
If Zeph sees nothing, then he can possibly find the slaves position by castingDetect Victim using a drop of lizard blood i've saved as the component?

Koko tries to budge his way up front and gets a frown from Jet. "WE need one warrior in the rear in case they come at us from that way, you or Alexi are best suited for that, cause the rest of us have much less protection than you guys! With this ransuer, I can help either end, from the middle as well as cast spells of healing if needed."
Jet draws Garrets attention to the party order situation, so he can decide who goes where, since there seems to be a difference in ideas.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:28/28/22 HP:50/50 Ki:9/10] Tuesday September 6th, 2011 5:32:27 PM
Garret nods to Jet and pauses the party's advance a moment to say, "Indeed, you're quite a massive tiger, that's for sure. I think you can help from the back not only to watch our rears, but also because you can leap into the front and into the fray after seeing where we need the most help. Alexi and I will take up the front, Jet and Keela can hold the middle, and Evred and Koko can hold the rear as we approach. We can all adjust once we get into combat, of course."
He speaks to Zeph over the mental link, "Stay hidden, I think it's going to get ugly up here, so you might be on your own for a little while!"
Bryn Town -- ROUND 0 -- MAP -- DM Jim Tuesday September 6th, 2011 9:53:34 PM
As the group heads to the main opening of the mine, Zeph heads further into the mine, further into the darkness. Shortly he comes upon the opening of a larger cavern. At the edge of it's mouth, he hears nothing, see's nothing but a faint glimmer of torchlight in the distance some 100' away.
At the opening of the mine, the group spy a large Karkasan on the top of one of the buildings pointing and barking out orders to unseen troops to "Get the intruder!"
each square on the map is 10'. No one has noticed your presence yet.

OOC: those 'squares' with an 'X' in them are archers towers, btw. There are doors at the bottom and stairs to climb up. in the tower you have a waist-high wall to give you cover. From a tower you can run along a connecting wall.

Garret moves towards the west, trying to move around the buildings, towards the wall, and then towards the opening in the wall, looking for targets as he goes.

OOC: the walls have a walkway and waist high cover against attack from the outside but no cover vs attacks from the inside.
"We should try to get to the tower on this west side. Once inside, our fighters can block the entrance while the others cast spells and shoot arrows and force the enemy to scale the wall to get to us," Alexi tells Garret as he follows the leader.

Koko once again changed form, this time into something less noticable than a tiger. He was now Koko the common bat.
He flew along the west wall, but at a higher vantage point. He used his low light and blind sense to scan the area for dangers and potential opportunities.
Bryn Town -- ROUND 0.1 -- MAP -- DM Jim d20+13=16 ; Thursday September 8th, 2011 2:11:25 AM
The group proceeds forward against the far West wall and they hear no hue and cry about their presence so they muct still be undetected. Koko, in the form of a bat, has flown ahead and see's barely over the wall, three squads(each # has 4 creatures) of Kothrul running down the street, away from the group. Koko also see's several dead Kothrul in the West wall guard positions.
High above and far away, pteranodon riders and giant eagles glide in on approach to the minetown.

Bryn Town -- ROUND 0.1 -- MAP -- DM Jim Thursday September 8th, 2011 4:00:54 AM

Koko Dogteeth- DIRE TIGER FORM - AC 22/T10/22, HP 77/77 Thursday September 8th, 2011 2:50:53 PM
Koko contined to scout in bat form, though in his heart he was eager to join the battle. In the end he made a compromise with himself; he would wait a few more seconds for his companions to move into a better position, and then he would act by casting a spell that would cause significant disruption of the enemy.
Actions: Wait for companions to move into a better position and then cast Spike Stones.
Spike stones- range medium; 160 feet of squares are affected. Will place the spell in area with greatest enemy activity (likely around main road)

Alexi follows along, however he switches to his bow. If he can get at least one shot off, that's one more than otherwise.

As Evred moves out into the open, the Karkasan out of the corner of his eye see's the slinking figure, and in Mathirian he barks out orders to check it out to about twelve Kothrul exiting Belle's place. Evred, on the other side of the mine entrance, finds the door to the admin building locked.
Further in the mine Zeph determines that the unnatural darkness is magical in nature--but for what reason why it's there, is unknown. Casting invisibility on himself he moves into the room and perceives he can see nothing in the unnaturally dark area to his right (figureing he would start there), but he does hear the low growl of something within the darkness.
Outside, Jet casts Fly on himself at about the same time Koko screeches out a spell of Spike Stones
Koko, please place your spell on the map-- (8) 20' squares., then take another action.
When Koko screeches out his order and the ground erupts in hazardous spikes, the Karkasan recognizes something is afoot and immediately casts a Lightning Bolt at the flying bat. (35hp damage. Reflex DC17 save for half damage)

OOC: either I'm confused in the direction we are going or Evred is. If we are moving "The group proceeds forward against the far West wall..." I took that to be to our left. If that is the case, then Evred, heading to the Admin Building is going opposite the main group. Of course, he may want to do that, but I think Evred was thinking we were heading to the 'right'.
Or am I turned around due to water in my ears still? :) (just kidding )

Jet swells with controlled rage, but just barely can the word controlled be used. He gently drops the ranseur he had in his hand as gently as possible as he assesses the situation. He knows Ma Bele's inside and out. He has been in every room, since the time of it's construction to his attempt to destroy it. He is kind of glad, it didn't burn completely down, but only to reminisce, because right now, it is an obstacle between him and the enemy.
That is one big monster of a creature. It is large without that long tail to support it. Jet wonders if the creature could be effected by a Grease spell, because he could easily cast it on his way over, but again, that tail. It could wrap him up and delay him well, even with his divine skill at avoiding such things, he needs to prepare carefully for this encounter.
He fly's invisible straight up into the air as high as he can for a full round, so he can have an aerial view of the area, just to make sure he isn't missing something or falling into a trap.
On the way up, Jet casts the Grease spell on himself flying straight up in the air 30'
Move 30' straight up and cast Grease spell on self.
DM: Buzz, since Jet is a Bard, he does not suffer from spell failure if wearing light armor. So there is no need to roll :)

Alexi suddenly stops in his tracks causing Keela to nearly bump into him. Emotions flood his mind that was unexpected. He turns around and notices Evred is not with them. Through the link he senses Zeph's puzzlement over something and Evred... has been seen!
What happened to 'get to the archer tower unseen? he yells out in his mind to Evred. Then, with Jet invisible and gone he says, Jet, keep us informed of their movements. We need to know how many are coming our way and from which direction.
Back to Evred he tells him, Don't come our way to lead them to us. They don't know we are here, just you.
Alexi proposes that Evred run back into the cave where Zeph is and lure the enemy into the cave. Alexi, Gerret, Keela, and perhaps Jet, if he wishes, follow and trap them. The Karkasan will not see what happens and may presume the kothrul did their job.

Koko the bat veered right but could not avoid the full force of the blast. (fail- 12). Not eager to take another hit, Koko moved into a new position that was out of line of sight. Once in position, he took the form of a Dire Tiger.
Actions: 1) Move out of line of sight of spell caster. If he can get out of line of sight on the rooftop of the building below him, and the building isn't more than 2-3 stories, he'll move to the rooftop. Otherwise, he'll move to 29-AH.
2) Change form back to Dire Tiger.
by moving back to rejoin his companions. Once he was in position he took the form of a Dire tiger.
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:87/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Monday September 12th, 2011 1:09:11 PM
Alexi moves back to the corner of the building (AI,33) and senses Evred casting a spell. He tells Evred, through the link, to keep them appraised to the enemies position so he can time his charge right. He does not want to peek around the corner and risk being seen also.
To Garret and Keela he says, "Get ready to back me up. Keela, that web spell might work now, with these buildings and the cliff walls and all that."
Alexi has his bow ready, arrow knocked, but depending on what transpires, he may opt to use charge in with melee weapons. Hast could help too he says to Keela. You decided what's best.
Alexi then takes a few deep breaths through gritted teeth, ready for some blood.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:28/28/22 HP:50/50 Ki:9/10] Monday September 12th, 2011 4:03:58 PM
Garret speaks to the others, "Let us know how it goes, Jet, and if we can help you in that move. Everyone else, get ready to ambush and flank those that are coming after Evred."

OOC: I think the roll above was a Perception check, but it should actually be +13 for 18.
Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 25/24t/19ff CMD 24 (Mage Armor, Prot vs. Evil)) Tuesday September 13th, 2011 1:01:59 AM
Zeph hears low growling and remembers the dog-jackle like mounts the Kothruls rode to battle and thinks Draakh Hounds or something were they? They have a sense of smell and can probably detect me. I wonder if they are chained. Damn, no light spell prepared. Don't wanna reveal myself."
Then he hears the beginnings of battle outside and communicates via the Mental Link to everyone, "Hold on, I'll be right there to cast Haste on as many people as I can! I know I'm invisible, i'll whistle and mental help ya.
The mine seeming to take too long a venture makes is a negative opportunity cost decision, and thus Zeph sprints fullspeed back to the battle outside. He will try to reach a point where he can get as many people in the 25+15 (5 per 2CL)= 40 foot radius.

Just as Jet is about to Jet off into the sky, Keela gifts him with greater invisibility--which is a good thing since it seems the Karkasan has keen eyesight which is rather unusual for a reptile. The young wizardess also attempts to suggest to Nagegy, using his honorific title, to move closer to the group, to which Nagegy simply responds, No can do!
Jet, now airborne, flies as high as he can before halting to cast Grease on himself. Perhaps it's to maintain his good looks, but probably not. Fully greased and flying, he notices a unit of Kothrul at each of the main gate towers, but no sign of other enemies except for those already present.
Trying to bring the tactical back into tactical assault, Alexi gives instructions to Jet and Evred. However, the former he can no longer see and is not speaking, and the latter seems to be casting a spell and not moving. Foiled again.
Calling upon the power of his diety, Evred begins summoning an elemental to do his bidding. Long and complex is his prayers--luckily the Kothrul heading towards him are slowed in their tracks by a spiky outgrowth that completely blocks off the secondary wall gate from the mine and town.
Taking the full force of the lightning bolt, Koko's smouldering bat form flutters down to the ground and reshapes back into a Dire Tiger.
Garret gives outs some good words of advice and orders for what's to come.
Not wishing to become a Draakh hounds meal, Zeph decides to rejoin the group, and not a moment too soon. Sprinting back, he ends at the mine's mouth as he see's what is the almost coalesced form of an elemental by Evred's side.
Continuing to rush forward at the behest of their lord, several Kothrul injure themselves gravely as they egress from the spike zones. The Karkasan himself seems to be holding his action, then realizing that a large creature is being summoned where his troops are heading begins casting and sends a fireball right at the spot it's arriving--after it's formed.
Evred and Elemental: 29hp damage; make DC17 Reflex saves for half damage
===================== 1 Round by Tuesday Night.
Concerning Spike Stones; I'm of the mind that the area of effect must be continuous, not a square here and a square there not linked to each other.
Please, only one post per person unless you are holding your action. Also, you only have 6 seconds in a round to act, so no long conversations.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, CMD: 20/22 Trip, HP:77/77 ) Tuesday September 13th, 2011 3:24:14 AM
More post later, but if Jet could do a fly by in the area of Zeph and his Haste spell, he could really use it.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:28/28/22 HP:50/50 Ki:9/10] Tuesday September 13th, 2011 2:33:11 PM
Garret uses the mental link to try and coordinate the attacks, "Let's move around, as they're all targeted on the summoned creature now."
He moves as quickly as he can to get around the side of the buildings (AF 28 or so).
Alexi (AC: 25/22, HP:87/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Tuesday September 13th, 2011 2:39:53 PM
Alexi sees Zeph show up at the entrance ot the mine and Evred be joined by an elemental that hums and zings like a charged metal rod. Then a fireball explodes around the two. 'Fireball. Now that's something new."
With the link he is aware of the difficulties the kothrul are having in getting to them but knows it will be soon the battle will be joined. He hopes Koko and Jet can keep the karkasan busy while they deal with the grunts. Thus he waits for the right time to pounce.
Alexi follows Garret around the building to the front corner (AF,27) and stops, waiting for the kothruls to pass. It's a narrow passageway but well concealed from the Karkasan.
Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 25/24t/19ff CMD 24 (Mage Armor, Prot vs. Evil)) d20+15=31 Tuesday September 13th, 2011 4:23:07 PM
Zeph, still invisible, looks around and does some quick calculations in his head.
Then, as it seems everyone is within his effective radius, he begins forming the motions with his hands, getting faster and faster. The world slows down... or rather time seems to speed up as the magic takes effect on each of his friends and companions.
Then, at the last second, he pulls his Rod of Metamagic Extend from its holster and uses the magic to power the Haste.
Everyone has haste for 12 rounds (doubled via metamagic rod).
Then, after completing the magic, invisible Zeph moves quietly over to AF-25 and presses his frame against the pillar (Stealth = 31+invisible). He peeks over at the Karkassan and thinks, This guy is mine....

Keela [AC 19; HP 61/61] [Haste] Tuesday September 13th, 2011 6:59:50 PM Thanks, Zeph! Keela thinks into the link.
But, Hasted or no, it's still a bad strategy to outrun the rest of the group. Keela follows Garret and Alexi.

Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, CMD: 20/22 Trip, HP:77/77 ) Wednesday September 14th, 2011 4:58:57 AM
Correction please.
Jet maintains the altitude and fly's to AF 22 (If that is still within the spell range, AF 23 or 24 if my math is wrong.)
Koko Dogteeth- DIRE TIGER FORM - AC 22/T10/22, HP 77/77 Wednesday September 14th, 2011 8:44:06 AM
Koko maintains cover in his current position and focuses his attention on the cavern ceiling above the enemy.
"Graaa raaaa raaaagiiii rrrru" the Tiger groaned as he cast another spell.
Action: Cast soften earth and stone on cave ceiling above the enemy. Attempting to create moderate collapse (as per spell) and perhaps a little dust cover as well. Targets 80 square feet.... Aiming above the enemy.

ooc: Reflex 26 and Reflex 19, the elemental and I take 14 fire damage.
ooc: Concentration check 31 versus DC 28 successful.
With grim determination, Evred is able to bear the searing heat of the fireball and complete his spell. With a poof, a lightning elemental appears in the space beside him. The elemental leaps into the air, flying and charging toward the Karkasan, attempting to bowl him over the side of the building.
ooc: Bullrush check 31, 2 lightning damage if successful.
Evred moves southeast to between Alexi and Zeph and casts a spell to ward them against fire.
ooc: Sorry, it is difficult for me to make out the grid lines. I'd like to be right between the two of them. Casting protection from energy (fire).

OOC: koko, I see where Soften Earth will affect but only 1 enemy via earth avalanch (nearest Nagegy) but otherwise I don't see the reason to cause a landslide. Remember, each square is 10', not 5'.
Just an observation.
Jet Stormway (AC: 16/15 no dex, CMD: 20/22 Trip, HP:77/77 ) Wednesday September 14th, 2011 8:18:36 PM

Using his group mental link, Garret orders the rest to try and coordinate their attacks and move to the other side of the buildings.
Alexi moves rapidly to join the rest and moves right behind Garret.
With barely enough distance, Zeph manages to ensorcel all of his group, less Nagegy, with a Haste spell. Then, moving much faster, runs to the outpost wall.
Jet blazes over the wall and southern outpost tower to end at it's twin, opposite it.
In dire tiger form, [b]Koko makes some strange gyrating sound that would be sensually appealing to some halflings, but nothing else happens. There is no ceiling, so the spell was never cast.
Fighting back the burning embrace of the Karkasan fireball, Evred commands his elemental to charge the karkasan--which it promptly does and with great hasted speed. With a frentic burst of energy, the elemental attempts to bullrush the Karkasan, but misses as the sly reptilian sidesteps the attack at the last moment. The Karkasan has no metal on him, probably because he's a mage, so there is no +10 bonus. Then Evred races across the gap and casts protection from fire on Alexi and Zeph.
The Kothrul continue to move out and units 7 & 8 come to a complete stop when Garret and Koko come into view. They immediately pull out javelins and throw them, 4 at each--only one manages to strike Koko (4hp damage) Each enemy number has 4 Kothrul
The Karkasan quickly responds to the elemental's attack by sending five magic missiles into it's swirling mass (14hp damage).

[b[each square on the map is 10'[/b]. No one has noticed your presence yet.
Ok, map still says Round 3 and still shows L as 'large', should be M, same size as us. Also, shouldn't L be next to K, having charged the karkasan and attempted bull rush?
Also, if L is next to K, shouldn't it get an AOO vs K since it is casting a spell? and maybe need to roll a Concentration check (if the elemental hits, that is)?

Koko accepted the javelin blow willingly, for he knew he would soon learn how Kothrul taste.
He charged with amazing speed directly at the advanced guards and pounced upon them with claw and bite. He then attempted to toss his victim upon the ground, while maintaining some form of cover from the wicked enemy spellcaster.
Actions: Hasted pounce attack- can move up to 160' and get a full attack. Will target #8, unless #7 can get an AOO, in which case he'll go for #7. Attacks below (I added +2 for charge... forgot to add it when I rolled)

Garret watches as Evred moves and the attackers stop their advance. After a pause, Garret realizes that he's not going to get flank with the creatures stopped in front of them. He steps forward to engage the first of the group, hoping to remain with the wall between he and the leader. He closes his fist and punches towards the first monster.
OOC: Haste (+1 atk, +1 Ref save, one extra attack when full attack) Hit AC 14, 15. I doubt those are hits, but just in case... damage is 8 for the first and 4 for the second.

Keela darts around the building to get a clear shot at the attackers. Once she can, she fires the last of her Scorching Rays. Two golden beams race toward the enemy.
[Move to AG-27 or thereabouts. Cast Scorching Ray on #8, or #7 if 8 has already been taken care of. Hit Touch AC 16 for 11 damage, and Touch AC 12 for 11 damage.]

On the way toward AA/19 Jet activates his Scabbard of Keen Edges and pulls his best friend Adrean. He remains relatively quiet over the link. He only transmits necessary knowledge of troop movements he might see or anything else the group below needs to know. His focus is on his own mortality. He is glad he has already met Gargul. It should make it less awkward when he asks in which direction the Happy Hunting ground lies.

OOC: well best I can figure for Garret's position is in front of Zeph on or near AF,25. Spells in effect: Haste_ +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC (23) and Reflex saves
IC: With the enemy now fully engaged and the prospect of ambush long gone like the dinosaurs, Alexi drops his bow and draws his weapons as he follows Garret, aiming for the nearest alive kothrul in group #8 (AG,26 or thereabouts) hoping to form a small wall with Garret, Koko, and himself between the kothrul and Keela, Zeph, and Evred.
Upon reaching such spot he lays into the enemy with longsword and axe. PrimW: (+15-2)13 = 23 dmg d8+7 = 13 OffhW: ((+13-2)11 = 22 dmg d6+5 = 6
OOC: don't know exactly where Koko is but we are attempting to form a line such that if a kothrul attempts to go between us to get to the spell casters anyone of us gets an AOO. Since each square is 10', it is a little difficult to place our 'piece' precisely to accomplish that, but at least you know what we want to do and can adjust accordingly if we don't get the exact coordinates right. (the lines are a bit hard to see). :)

Sorry, once again. I keep getting distracted by 'stuff' i gotta do.
I meant to add that if none are left alive in #8, he does not go all the way to #7 but stops at said spot and holds his action so that on the kothrul's turn that brings him into range, Alexi attacks it first (use above rolls) before the kothrul gets his attack.
Thanks. Sorry. I think I'm done now. Sorry. :)

Zeph think to Evred, Thanks my friend, lets see if I can't solve this spellcaster issue we have here
The Kothruls feel a gust of wind and hear the pat pat pat of elven feet, as invisible Zeph runs full speed past them and towards the Karkasan casting spells from above. He jumps into the air over the spiked stones (Acrobatics 32) and lands within 30' of the Karkassan (with my calculations that should be about right with 60 move eh? Should land at about AB-21?)
With sword held in one hand, Zeph feels the power of transmutation course around his free fist. He punches his fist towards the face of the Karkassan, speaking Haiduuuuken and the telekenetic projection fires, smashing him in the kneck, making him gasp for air.
Hit Touch and flat-foot AC 15, since the attack is a touch attack and being invisible make em flat footed (Forgot to add +1 for Inspire courage and +1 for Haste) for 14 damage (with 10 sneak attack... wow that was underwhelming)
Zeph thinks to Jet, Hey Mr. Stormwind, do you think your blade could disembowel a Karkassan?

With a javelin sticking out of his side, Koko charges forward and pounces on the unfortunate Kothrul in front of him. His first two claw attacks rips one Kothrul to shreds, the third nearly guts another kothrul, but before he can even scream, Koko bites and rips the creatures head clean off and spits it aside.Pounce does allow charge and full attack.
Garret doesn't think his plan of flanking the kothrul will succeed and his subsequent attack as he moves forward proves also to be unsuccesful. Only one attack for you since you moved greater than 5'
Moving into a better tactical position, Keela sends out two scorching rays at the remaining kothrul unit fighting Koko and kills one easily.
Jet continues to race across the town and as he does so, activates the power of his scabbard to magically sharpen his sword as he clears it from his sheath.
Deciding to join Garret and Koko to form a fighting wall, Alexi moves forward and strikes out with his longsword, seriously wounding the last member of unit 8, but not killing him. Only 1 attack allowed per round unless you have a special ability or feat to move and make a full-attack
In a show of extreme jumping prowess that no one will ever see, Zeph rushes forward, past the Kothrul infront of him--invisible as he is, travels a short distance and jumps an amazing 32' over hazardous magical terrain. As he lands he calls upon the power of his magic and sends a powerful telekinetic fist at the Karkasan leader, striking him soundly and causing him to stumble back a few feet.
Evred, with his summoned elemental killed by the Karkasan's magic missiles, moves a bit out of the way, and holds his ground.
The lone kothrul in unit 8 takes a 5' step back and throws another javelin at Koko, and is immediately joined by the rest of his brethern as more javelins fly--none of which strike any of the Uncharted Heroes.
Then in the groups midst a huge fireball erupts, having been cast by the Karkasan--washing over Garret, Alexi, Koko, Evred and Keela. 36hp damage. REF DC17 save for half damage

The tiny hairs on Garret's feet tinge just before the blast, and he quickly ducks down in his position, below the fire of the massive strike. The flames singe the back of his head, but he is otherwise unharmed by the flames (Reflex Save: 17). He then becomes a tiny ball of fists, knees, and feet as he starts attacking the enemy. Unfortunately, he just sort of spins and kicks in a nice demonstration of martial tactics, but doesn't actually hit anything but the air around him.
OOC: Flurry of blows, using 1 point of ki for an extra attack. Hit AC 19, 17, 21, 20, and 14. I think my dice are broken.

Jet thinks to himself as he is finally in range for the fight. The last sound the Karkassan hears is Jet casting a Silence spell on his falchion. Then Jet moves in and around behind the Karkassan. If the monster tries to flee the soundless area, Jet will instead follow.
Actions: Cast Silence spell. Hold move action to follow Karkassan if it attempts to escape. Move behind it if it stays.
Alexi (AC: 23/22, HP:87/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Friday September 16th, 2011 2:14:39 PM
OOC: Two-Weapon Fighting ...Fighting: If you wield a second weapon in your off hand, you can get one extra attack per round with that weapon. You suffer a -6 penalty with your regular attack or attacks with your primary hand and a -10 penalty to the attack with your off hand when you fight this way. You can reduce these penalties in two ways. First, if your off-hand weapon is light, the...
Give me the other attack with my off-hand weapon please. As stated in prev post, Alexi uses his longsword and axe+1, that gives him two attacks regardless of Full Round or no.
He only sufferes the -2/-2 penalty because he has Two-Weapon Fighting feat and an axe is a light weapon.
The kothrul takes another 6 damage.
DM Jim: Sorry, you are wrong. As per the rules:
Full Attack
If you get more than one attack per round because your base attack bonus is high enough (see Base Attack Bonus in Classes), because you fight with two weapons or a double weapon, or for some special reason, you must use a full-round action to get your additional attacks.... The only movement you can take during a full attack is a 5-foot step. You may take the step before, after, or between your attacks.
If you get multiple attacks because your base attack bonus is high enough, you must make the attacks in order from highest bonus to lowest. If you are using two weapons, you can strike with either weapon first. If you are using a double weapon, you can strike with either part of the weapon first. Hence, Alexi only gets 1 attack when using a standard action.
Alexi (AC: 23/22, HP:87/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Friday September 16th, 2011 2:29:20 PM
OOC: DM, please specify the exact target sq for the center of the fireball. There are kothrul in the area too, in melee with the party. Just as we need to specify the area our spells are targeting, we need to know the exact center/squares the enemy spells are targeting.
Not trying to be picky here but we do need to know. :)
DM Jim: There were no Kothrul in melee with the group at the end of the groups turn when the fireball was cast and the caster has a clear line of sight from his vantage point.

OOC: Alexi/Jon, you are wrong. Read Full Attack Action it says "If you get more than one attack per round because your base attack bonus is high enough (see Base Attack Bonus in Classes), because you fight with two weapons or a double weapon, or for some special reason, you must use a full-round action to get your additional attacks. "
Standard action = one attack. Full action = all attacks + 5foot hop.
Now, as an interesting point, you CAN attack once, then decide whether to continue attacking with your bonus attacks, or move after finding out the results of the Standard action single attack)
Dm Jim: This is true, but in a play by post game it does not work and if you wait for the results of your action, you will miss that action in the next turn. That's just the way it is.
Alexi (AC: 23/22, HP:87/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Friday September 16th, 2011 3:59:46 PM
OOC: 1) ok, it appears that this is one of those rules that's when read in one part (two-weapon fighting) can get mis-interpreted when that said rule does not say, "oh, by the way, to do that you must use a Full Round Action, see page xx Full Round Action. eh, i think we may have done it wrong in the past. Oh well, to late to go back to last year's battle. : }
2) The reason I asked about the exact location of the center of the fireball is because there is a kothrul 5' from Alexi and the fireball radius is 20' feet, a 4x4 sq area (ea. sq = 10'). Your post said: in the groups midst , wihch I took to mean that the center was in our midts (at least that's what 'misds' means). If 'we' had said something like that, "I place the fireball in the midts of the enemy..." the onus would be on us if that also hit our own players because we just didn't think the area of effect out properly.
Considering the range of the spell and his vantage point, I'm sure we can poke around and find a spot suitable to miss the one kothrul. But it would help us a good bit to specify the exact spot. Ya never know, there might come that time when it just wouldn't miss and we miss that 'cause we don't usually have the spot. :)

OOC: I was about ready to go but thought of something and I need DM Jim's rulling before I commit, heh. Alexi wants to know how many more javelins they have on them, for that he needs a Perception roll:
Action: Most Perception checks are reactive, made in response to observable stimulus. Intentionally searching for stimulus is a move action.
What I need, DM, is whether you consider noticing how many javelins (exact amount is irrelevant, ie. is it a bundle or just one more or that's it, they've thrown all they have) would be, from your point of view, a Move Action or a Reactive action, considering that javelins are kinda hard to keep hidden.
And is a Reactive action a Free Action?
I can plan from your response. thanks.
Dm Jim:Very good question because this came up in another game I was running and I ruled thusly: In the first round of something new happening, like entering a room, someone jumping out of the shadows, basically any first instance of something happening, you can get a free opportunity to make a perception roll to notice something. This free perception roll is not asked for, so if you forget to ask, or just take things for granted, too bad. Now, in subsequent rounds, any perception rolls that aren't reactive in nature to something new, they do require a move action, such as knowing exactly how many javelins they have left.
Now, if you just want a rough count--i.e. more than few, less than a dozen, that doesn't require a perception roll--that is only required for specifics. In this case, they have more than a few, less than a dozen javelins left.

OOC: Thanks, that's what I needed to know. If they had one in hand, that'd be obvious. If they had another poking out somewhere (strapped to their back, etc.) that would be obvious also. Anymore than that wouldn't matter at this point. Posting later after supper. :)

Barely able to stand on his four legs, Koko hesitates, hoping someone heals him or he will be forced to withdraw. With no immediate response, Koko withdraws back next to Keela.
Garret on the other hand takes a small leap forward to engage the last member of unit 8, and in a flurry of blows, manages to miss with all except his last attack--sending the Kothrul into the dirt to take a permanent nap.
Casting a silence spell on his blade, Jet zooms behind the Karkasan enveloping him in silence also.
Keela prepares for the next attack from the Karkasan, thinking it will cast another fireball.
Braving yet another fireball, Evred calls upon the power of his god and heals his allies of most of their burn damage (+21hp to everyone)
Backing up Garret, Alexi moves forward and holds his action.
Zeph holds his action
Both Garret and Alexi hold their ground as four javelins fly at each, and all prove ineffective against the pairs armor.
The Karkasan, surrounded in silence, grimaced and swears at the inconvenience. Pulling a rod, one of a few from his belt, the reptilian lord calls upon a spell from his most powerful repetoire and releases a chain lightning spell that first strikes Garret, then Alexi, followed by Evred, Keela and finally Koko.

"I'm sorry if this messes everything up," she says, "but I can't take another one of those."

Alexi (AC: 23/22, HP:78/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Monday September 19th, 2011 8:58:12 PM
OOC: by my calculations, Koko, Keela, and Evred can still make a Move also. Koko can Stand from Prone (he was unconcious for a second) them Move into the tower. Both spells cast by Keela and Evred were Standard so a Move into the tower too should be possible.
Is that correct?
Koko Dogteeth- DIRE TIGER FORM - AC 22/T10/22, HP -9 Monday September 19th, 2011 10:18:16 PM
Butterflies danced gracefully in the spring air as the smell of flowers massaged Koko's nose. Over the tree tops the burning cresent of the sun climbed slowly, its rays warming Koko and beckoning him to draw nearer. Suddenly he was flying with the butterflies, edging his way closer and closer to the sun's light.
To the light Koko muttered as the light intensified and the world below became murky. Wait a second... tigers can't fly Koko reasoned, and with that realization he felt himself falling. Until... SPASH!
Caught by icy cold water, the Dire Tiger felt as if his lungs would explode. With powerful but uncoordinated tiger strokes he made the surface and gasped for a much needed lungful of air.
A deep breath and Koko's eyes opened. The dreamworld has passed away under the realization of where he was, how close he had come to death, and what he needed to do to make sure that dream didn't come a reality anytime soon.
The scorched tiger stood, tried to shake the cob webs from his head and then broke for the tower.
ACTIONS: Note- Priority #1- stay out of line of sight of that spellcaster. Koko doesn't want to be within the blast radius of another fireball.
Double move action- Stand from prone and move. If the door to the tower is on the right side of the wall, Koko will move inside it. If it's on the other side of the tower, Koko will only run around (and inside the tower) if the ice wall is between the tower and the caster. If the ice wall isn't there, Koko will backpeddle to AE-30.

Taunting one of the Kothrul in unit 9, Zeph then proceeds to kill one of them while they give a look of, What?. Asking Nagegy where they should strike next, the hermit replies incredously, "Are you kidding me? How about the Karkasan blasting your friends to death!"
Try as he might, Jet fails to disarm the Karkasan as it fights blindly against the invisible bard. Frustrated at his lack of success, Jet decides to simply chop into it twice--both times drawing streams of blood from it's back.
Koko, unable to withstand the onslaught of elemental spell after elemental spell, falls to the ground.
However, as soon as the dire tiger does, Evred rescues him from the brink of death, healing everyone for 23hp.
In an impressive move, Garret comes through the chain lightning attack unscathed. Directing everyone into the tower, he goes on the total defensive to safeguard those running into the safety of the tower.
Feeling the might of the Karkasan's spell full force, Keela apologizes and casts a Wall of Ice to block any further attacks from the vile Mathirian--and it's about time.
Rushing to the tower door, Alexi luckily finds the door to it unlocked, opens it and yells for Koko and the rest to get inside.
Giving up his previous plan, Garret runs inside the tower.
In immense pain, Koko staggers to his feet and lopes into the tower after Garret. Once inside he looks up to see the stairs go to the top of the tower where a small room with arrow slits are--a skilled mage could send a fireball right through those slits.
His line of sight removed from the large group of invaders, the Karkasan sorceror turns his attention to another nearby. Casting defensivily, the Karkasan sends a Phantasmal Killer at Zeph.
Zeph, please make a DC18 Will Save. If you fail, please make a DC18 Fort save. If you fail you do not die because you are immune to fear :) If you make your Fort save, you take 10hp damage.
If you make your Will roll, because you have telepathy right now, you will automatically control the Phantasmal Killer and turn it on the Karkasan.
As the spell is being cast, Zeph has several javelins thrown at him, but none hit.
Alexi finds himself the target of many a javelin--but none can penetrate his defenses.

Zeph sidesteps through a small downpour of javalins.
Then, he sees the image of everything he fears materialize: Turning into a dwarf, being forced to watch Jersey Shore, botching a jump over a post. Fort Saves oh my!
Bah Zeph thinks and shakes his head at the matter (Will save = 28 with the Prot vs Evil bonus). Then he quickly focuses his Jedi-like mind (Concentration = 16. Nat 1!) to redirect the Phantasmal Killer back on the Karkassan.
What would scare an overgrown reptile? A monstrous overgrown mammal! A mongoose!!"
And thus Zeph shapes the illusion to penetrate the Karkassan's mind as a dire monstrous Mongoose to terrorize the foe. Will DC 18 to disbelieve your own image yo. Then DC 18 fort etc etc.

Koko didn't feel any more secure inside the tower. Here he was cornered and still vulnerable against the wizard's attacks. Moreover, it was an enviornment that hardly favored the form of a dire tiger. With that in mind, he decided to rejoin the battle.
The Dire Tiger felt Evred's healing spell as he bolted directly for one of the enemies just outside of the tower. As he attacked with a bite, he tried to use the ice wall and tower to the north as his shield against the spellcaster who apparently didn't like animals very much.

End of Battle -- DM Jim d20+15=28 Tuesday September 20th, 2011 10:42:04 PM Jet slashes the Karkasan once more as Zeph turns the Phantasmal Killer back on the Mathirian, but to no effect. Zeph quickly follows up with a mighty jump and a single stab to the gut, killing the Karkasan--much to it's surprise.
When the Karkasan's death scream reverberates across the mining town (since it cannot be heard) and his Kothrul followers feel it, they immediately rout--but not before Koko rushes out of the tower and rips the head off of one of the fleeing Kothrul.
Overhead the pteranodons and eagles can be seen gliding in and point to the fleeing Kothrul who are running towards and out the front gate, gesturing if they should give pursuit.
Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste] Tuesday September 20th, 2011 11:42:11 PM
Panting, Keela flings herself toward the tower, ready to rush up the stairs--only to see the enemy fleeing. She pauses, looking around her, not quite believing that the battle is over.
Lord Nagegy, she sends, are you all right?
Nagegy -- DM Jim Wednesday September 21st, 2011 1:56:34 AM "Quite alright. It looks like the battle is over. Shouldn't be more than a day or two before reinforcements show up--probably a 1000 or more warriors. Best we free those prisoners and fortify the town--after a proper celebration that is." Nagegy walks back to the group, but stops short at the spiky outgrowth.
Jet Stormway Exits Wednesday September 21st, 2011 10:30:45 AM
Jet job is now over. He is done with this place. Finished.
He regroups with the others, without concern for the fleeing lizards.
"Well my friends, you are now on your own. I have fullfilled whatever duties I felt bind me here. Whatever you choose to do from here is up to you. Me however, I am going to get as far away from dwarves amd lizards as I can get, in that order. Fare thee well friends and don't let the dwarves talk you into getting yourselves killed."
Now that he is visible, he walks out the front gate, without looking back once. The last sounds that are heard from him are the words from the Bryn Baraz song he wrote when the wagon train first arrived here.

Garret bows to him and says, "Well fought, it has been my pleasure to have fought by your side this long time. May the sun always shine on your back, wherever your travels may take you."
He turns to Zeph and says, "The slaves? Did you see them? Are there others guarding them?"
Nagegy -- DM Jim Wednesday September 21st, 2011 3:30:09 PM

Koko Dogteeth- DIRE TIGER FORM - AC 22/T10/22, HP 29/77 Wednesday September 21st, 2011 5:20:09 PM
Koko Dogteeth studied Jet as he left. Brave man he thought. May our paths cross again.
The Dire Tiger assumed his human form and slumped against the tower in exhaustion. It had been a very long day. One that brought him to the brink of death and back again... thanks to Evred.
"You saved my life Evred" Koko said soon after. "Only a few days ago I didn't care if I lived or died, but somehow this experience restored my desire to be on this earth a little longer. I think I have you to thank for that."
With those words said, Koko leaned up against the tower, rested, and contemplated what tomorrow would bring.
Alexi (AC: 23/22, HP:87/87) Lobo (AC: 20, HP:36/36) Wednesday September 21st, 2011 9:31:19 PM
Alexi reaches his bow and knocks an arrow, ready to put an end to the cowardly javelin thowers but the link with Jet and Zeph reveals the silent death scream of the Karkasan. Despite being able to hear a silent scream, a wall of ice and spiked terrain, the surviving coward javelin throwers in front of him turn and flee.
Alexi spits in their direction. He does not chase after, 'Let the eagles and flying reptiles have their fill', he thinks.
Nagegy's words confirm Alexi's own thoughts of what will hapen next.
"He's right. They first sent a scout group and we killed them. They then sent a huge force led by one of those spell casting snake things like that one there,' pointing to the dead karkasan. "We killed many of those and two patrols in the open fields, even capturing one of their flying wagons. They put guardians at all the entrances and we defeated them. Now we've taken this place back. They are not going to stop. An army they will send, either like the other one or more powerful."
Alexi looks around and Jet gives his speach.
Alexi embraces Jet like a brother would. A brother with many differences but a brother non-the less.
"Jet, remember what you said to me after we rescued the children? 'You have done well with this journey. There are still things we need to work on together, but I am growing fond of you, for some reason.' That touched my heart and things have been very different since, repecting your leadership and really, I mean really trying to follow them as you directed.
"May your journey lead to a boisterous tavern and a wench on your lap. Fare well and hope our paths cross again. If you see Bantom again, give him mine and Lobo's regards."
Alexi watches Jet for a little while, a little tear creaping down his cheek. He then turns to the others. "Like Nagegy said, only a couple of days to get ready. But that is for you to decide. For me, my task is done as well. Our deal was to kick these Mathir out, not fight an army. If the Stonehelm Mining and Exploration Company wants to keep this place, they'll need to bring their own army here to do it. I'm not it.
"This is a circle with no end. Al Mathir wants the mithril. If the dwarves want to keep it from them, they'll have to come here themselves and show a greater interest in it than they have so far. If they let it go again, fine, but I'm not playing their games anymore."
Alexi goes over to Keela and takes her hand, "Jet dared me once to say this, so when I do, he'll know I did since the link is still strong."
He then gives Keela a big wet kiss on the kisser, not a long one, just a quick affectionate one. "i bet Jet is having a laugh to scare the Ambush Drakes away by now," he says smiling. "I could not allow myself to love you too much for fear of that love interfering with our duty. And now that I must leave, it is such a relief to let it out. I loved you since the first day we met. Sounds corney but it is true.
"If you stay, I wish the best for you and that you succeed. But do survive eh?" He hugs her then addresses the others, "I will go fetch the horses from the pool and bring them around, meahwhile release the slaves, er, ex-slaves. Zeph may want to come with me and bring Avis back.
"Afterwards I'll be on my way. I think I'm going to go back home for a while. My father and grandfather need to hear about my adventures and my mother needs another mouth to feed, hah!"
Alexi gather's himself up then leaves. He takes the goat path, as it is a quicker way to the pool. He fetches the horses, checking them over first, them back at the gates, leaves them at the stables.
"C'mon Lobo, time to head home."
Through the link he says, "May your fight be valourous, may your reward be a king's!"
Alexi heads outwards towards the plains, wondering if he'll find Jet's tracks. Either way, he knows his way back to Floating City, where it all began... such a long time ago...
Two days before the day after tomorrow -- DM Jim Wednesday September 21st, 2011 9:53:27 PM
With both Jet and Alexi leaving, a void, a silence permeated the area; a gentle wind blew through the mining town, brushing aside the smoke that lingered amongst the buildings, clinging to them for protection. Wisps of dust and small debris that cluttered the streets moved slowly to a destination unknown. Amongst all this, a Pop resonates nearby and those that turn to look, see the familiar face of Katarina, the dwarf mage. She looks pleasantly pleased with the outcome of the battle and comes forward to congratulate those that remained behind, "Good job, heroes!" Looking about, she asks, "The slaves, have you freed them yet? I'm sure they would love to show you their thanks too!"

Evred is emotionally torn, having much cause to celebrate in their victorious reclamation of the village, yet saddened to see two members of their party leave. He calls out to them as they depart. "May you find good travels and peace, friends." He then turns his attention to the slaves, inspecting them for any wounds that may be in need of his assistance. He calls out to anyone who can hear. "Gather the vounded to me, I vill heal them all together!"

Then Zeph focuses on the task at hand and says, "Koko, there were Draak Hounds possibly guarding the slaves. Can you assist me in freeing them? Actually, it was also dark, so perhaps a light spell would be helpful, Sir Evred?"
Looking to Sir Liiissst and the Eagles, he bids that they allow the fleeing lizardfolk life and then land next to Katarina to speak
He looks to Katarina and says, "Give us a quick sec and we can negotiate terms. For us and for our new friends." nodding towards the two new groups of allies.
Then Zeph dashes into the caves, knowing that every second of freedom is sweet for the depraved.
Will get Avis afterwards.

Koko Dogteeth rose slowly and with great effort when Evred said "healing". He assumed a position with the freed slaves and sucked up all of the divine magic that he could, for his wounds were significant. When Evred was done, Koko looked almost as good as new.
"Much better" Koko said as he patted Evred on the back with a bit more force than he meant to. "I'd be pushing daisy's if it weren't for you!"
As those words left Koko's lips, a familiar hawk landed on his shoulder. The hawk pecked and pinched Koko hard, as if to say 'how dare you leave me behind'.
"Good to see you old friend" Koko answered to the hawk.

Inside the mine -- DM Jim Thursday September 22nd, 2011 9:31:02 PM
Inside the mine proper, the group finds that the unnatural darkness has abated. To either side of the large cavern are several prison cells with many slaves within. They are kept at bay from the iron bars that pen them in by several Draakh hounds chained nearby.
ooc: if the group wants to kill all six of the draakh hounds, it's as easy as saying that it's done, since they are chained up. If you want to do something else, maybe Koko does, then let me know. Freeing the slaves can be done once the draakh hounds are dealt with.

Garret stands back and waits a moment. He says, "I guess we could try and knock them out, but we're going to get hurt if we do that. Sleep sounds like a good idea if we can get them all."
Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste] Tuesday September 27th, 2011 1:28:54 PM
"All right, I'll give it a try," Keela says.
Because she doesn't have a Sleep spell prepared, she uses her wand to cast one, trying to get as many of the hounds as possible.
Koko Dogteeth- DIRE TIGER FORM - AC 22/T10/22, HP 66/77 Tuesday September 27th, 2011 5:01:09 PM
Koko stood and watched Keela cast her spell. If this didn't work, what would?
Draakh Hounds -- DM Jim d20+2=9 ; Tuesday September 27th, 2011 7:13:01 PM Keela uses her wand of Sleep (DC11) and one of the hounds falls asleep, barely.
Koko Dogteeth- DIRE TIGER FORM - AC 22/T10/22, HP 66/77 Tuesday September 27th, 2011 10:31:24 PM
"see... They really are quite cute when they sleep."
For the next few minutes the shapeshifter was silent, but then suddenly...
"I've got it!" he exploded. "We need a large table or sizeable piece of wood. Put it on its side and use it as a shield to force the dogs away from the cells. Heck, if he had two tables and moved in a 'V' formation, all the dogs would be forced into the middle. With their chains they couldnt run around or jump over. And the tables would shield us from them. Follow me?"
"Or, what if I turned into a small animal and circled around the dogs, just outside of their reach? How long would it be before all of their chains were tied around each other, which would make their reach shorter. Dogs on chains have a way of getting all knotted up, so six dogs on chains should be easy."
Action: Koko will look around for some large tables or pieces of wood to use to implement the first strategy.
If that doesn't work he'll turn into a small animal and move around the dogs, outside of their reach. If there is room to run around them outside of their reach, Koko will turn into a nice fuzzy bunny rabbit. If not, he'll turn into a small bird and fly around and above them (outside of their reach).

Garret watches as Koko and the others try to save the dogs. He looks around and then wanders out of the entranceway to climb the walls, half-expecting to see an army appearing. He looks around the outside of the city for any sign of their enemy. Then he heads back into the city and looks for a building that's in decent shape and tries to clear out any signs of the lizard-people.
Draakh Hounds, table and such -- DM Jim Wednesday September 28th, 2011 12:25:35 PM
Koko leaves the mine and searches for some tables and finds them in the Admin building. Garret on the otherhand heads out to the walls and passes the Pteranodon riders and eagles that have landed in the training area; they call out to him about what's going on and he see's that there are already several Kothrul manning the walls keeping a lookout and they report nothing in their scans.
Koko returns and tries his table manuevers but they do not work. The tables are either pushed back by the hounds, or pawed at and knocked over as they try to scramble towards the slaves. When Koko changes into a bird they do initially follow the bird and jump at it when it flies near, but when anyone tries for the slaves, they go back into attack mode and make it impossible to free the slaves.
Katarina, completely ignored, sits outside in the sun going through a checklist.

Zeph thinks to Koko, Prepare what is needed to tame or put the hounds to sleep and we can get them after your spells are ready?
Then he returns outside and searches the Karkassan's corpse for all his metamagic rods and anything else of value. (Spellcraft to ID magic items = 31, 25, and 34.)
Then he waves for Nagegy, the Eagles, and Liiissst to join him as he approaches Katarina and says, "We have secured the settlement, but I fear you may not be able to hold it for long. Al Mathir's shadow is extensive and they will not take this defeat lightly. I want to negotiate... no, I demand that Liiissst and the Eagles be given permanent positions of guardianship with tithes suitable for their services." (Diplomacy = 20)
Then, after letting that sink in he says, "Nagegy has claimed a percentage of ownership for his own crafts. And he has also agreed to assist in the profit-generation of the settlement by producing arts that only he can do. I offer similar services in exchange for partial ownership. This is a wise investment on your part, trust me. You need us much more than we need you."
IF Katarina looks upset or about to argue, Zeph says, "Two minds together can produce greater results than either alone. That's synergy, we have it. The mithril can do so much alone, but with skilled craftsmen, guardians, and leadership it can do so much more."
(OOC: Effective argument?)
Katarina -- DM Jim Wednesday September 28th, 2011 2:12:26 PM
In his search of magic on the Karkasan, Zeph finds three rods: one lesser extend, one lesser quicken and one greater silent rod; he also finds a magic ring amongst nine other rings the Karkasan had worn.
When he confronts and demands certain accomodations from Katarina, she listened carefully and then answered just as calmy. "Ownership? You ask too much." Katarina replied matter of factly, "You made an agreement to secure the settlement and you will be rewarded for such a noble and heroic deed," Smiling, she continued, "but for the rest, the mine and it's settlement is owned by the mining concern and they will not part with any fraction of it." Looking about, then back at Zeph, "The settlers we removed will return and help fortify and defend this town against any further attacks this day. If you wish to help in that matter, I can offer you a one time deal, and it is this: your group may pick out one building right now and own it outright. One member of your group may be part of the town council as a non-voting member, solely placed there as a consultant. Liist, his riders, and the eagles cannot remain in the town, but have free use of the eeries and cliffs above us. Each of you will be given a wand, if you can use it, to defend the town in case of an emminent attack. That's my best and only offer. Think about it and consult with your friends before you respond." Katarina then bows and heads off for the mine admin building.
Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste] Wednesday September 28th, 2011 7:37:01 PM
Keela is disappointed, but not surprised, when her spell has little effect.

"Brilliant those dogs" Koko said with amazement. "I dont expect that these guys ever chased their own tails."
"Put the dogs down!" the druid said with shock after Keela made her suggestion. "Amazing creatures... far smarter than the average dog. We must save them. Anyone have a grappling hook and rope?"
"Unless..." Koko said suddenly. "Unless they are illusions of dogs?"
Koko closed his eyes and tried to disbelieve.

Then he transmits the offer to the rest of his teammates via the mental link, What do you guys think?
If Keela, Koko, Garrett, and Evred agree, then Zeph will nod his acceptance of the offer and shake Katarina's hand, and then say, "I would like this negotiation to also include emergency help for me and my friends from the Star Mage's guild in times of crisis. For example, if we are trapped by enemies and about to fight to the death, I would like the option of calling in a favor for a quick teleportation out of there."

Garret thinks about what Zeph has said, and while he is looking around town, looking over buildings for a possible home base, he thinks back to the others, "Hey Naggy, is this reasonable to you? Have we met our agreements with the others?"
Nagegy -- DM Jim Thursday September 29th, 2011 12:40:40 PM "Sounds fine to me, as long as I get my cut of mithral, I'm good."
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10] Friday September 30th, 2011 4:01:06 PM
Garret thinks to the group, "We might, then, have a problem. It seems that Katarina is not willing to give up any mithril. At the same time, we have promised some mithril to our good friend Naggy. I think that perhaps Katarina is setting herself and the mining company up for more battles, perhaps against us at this time. Zeph, do you think that Katarina will consider parting with any part of the mine willingly, or are have we now set ourselves up to attempt to hold this mine not only against the lizards, but now against Katarina and her group?"
Meanwhile, Garret continues looking about the town, exploring, looking for a nice building that might have many rooms they can share. Perhaps even a smaller hotel-like building so the group could have individual rooms and a gathering room.
Nagegy -- DM Jim Saturday October 1st, 2011 4:37:47 PM
Nagegy thinks back to the group, "While you guys were dealing with the hounds, and still are from the looks of it, Katarina told me she would honor my payment of a percentage of the mithral... but there are costs associated with it; mainly because I'm not mining or smelting it myself, I'm an artist, not a miner. As for wresting control of the town from her and the mining concern she's helping, I'd think that would be a death wish. Oh, it wouldn't be a mass attack like the Al Mathirians are probably going to launch against us, but a slow systematic plan of making each one of us disappear night after night."
Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste] Monday October 3rd, 2011 12:46:28 AM If you are content with the amount of Mithril she offers, Keela thinks back, then it's fine with me. A little wistfully, I would like to have a place to call home.

Garret continues his exploration of the town, searching for just the perfect place for their group to call home. He's imagining a place that when you walk in, you're in a common room, with a large fireplace and perhaps a bar area leading to a kitchen. Perhaps off to the side, or in the rear, there would be a moderate-sized private room. Then there would be stairs leading to an second story where there would be a number of individual rooms that each of the adventurers could call home.
Meanwhile, he communicates with the others through the mental link, "It seems that we are in agreement then, that all parts of our bargain with everyone have been fulfilled. Now we need to decide if we want to try and hold this town against an all-out attack from the lizard people. I don't think diplomacy is going to help this time, we're just going to have to defend. I don't have any other plans at the moment, so I think I'll stay. Who is with me?"

Garret moves some furniture around and continues to search for exactly the right building for the group's headquarters. He idly wonders how many individual rooms they will need. So far, it looks to be quite a small number. He thinks that perhaps he should look for somewhere with 6-8 rooms or so, as perhaps one day the group will expand again.
As he searches, he thinks about whether the place should have a name. After all, the downstairs common room might even be an inn for gatherings of the public. The Lizard Fire Inn? The Fish Snot Room? The Dead Lizard?

"I have seen many places, but I know there are many more I have not seen. But I have never had a place to call my own. I wonder, if I should have a place here, should we be able to defend and hold this town against those who desire it, what I should do next. With methodical precision, the group incapacitates the Draahk hounds one by one. While they're under they immediately free the slaves--much to their joy. They are a mixed race lot, ranging from dwarves, surface drow, and even a few reptilians. They number about 50, which is incredible considering the cramped confines of their cells. They thank the group profusely, some hugging Keela overly long--whom are immediately pulled off of her only to be replaced by the person helping remove said person, latch onto her; but they are grateful. When Nagegy is spotted, there is some concern, but he explains that he's even more hated by the other Mathirians than the slaves are, and a few of the reptilian slaves--a Kothrul and Thrul both recognize Nagegy and vouch for what he has claimed.
After moving the hounds into a cell and locking it securely, much to the consernation of some of the slaves--they let it be known that the hounds were only fed slaves, never anything else, the group and slaves are addressed by Katarina. She seems a bit nicer now, more than likely because she's asking the slaves to stay and help fight the Mathirians bound to attack in a few days. She makes promises of 1000gp each and a guaranteed job in the mines that will pay very well if they stay. If they do not, then later that night they are free to return to Plateau City via the teleport circle they, the mining concern, will setup shortly. She also explains that 50 or so previous inhabitants will be returning tonight to help protect the town and that there will be a feast to honor the heroes of the day within the hour and to honestly think about staying--to strike a blow against the evil that enslaved them all.
When the talks finish, Katarina goes about her business and explains to the group she is leaving but will be back within minutes as she starts shuttling in the townfolk from Plateau City. True to her word, about 10 minutes later after teleporting out, she re-appears at the training grounds with a few more mages and many of the previous townfolk that had been evacuated. This goes on several times until all the evacutees have been returned. Many come forward and thank the group, giving Keela flowers and chocolates, and the men bottles of wine, beer and mead.
Katarina announces with a flourish, "Let the party begin!" and strikes the ground with an ornate rod. Instantly a palatial tent--a huge pavilion of silk 60 feet across springs into existence. Inside the tent are furnishings and food suitable to the splendor of the pavilion and sufficient to entertain as many as 100 people. Everyone begins to eat and drink away the worries of the future, the weariness of the day begins to fade away and is replaced by smiling faces, strong handshakes and welcomed hugs.
During the festivities, Katarina sets up a limbo pole and says joyfully, "Lets see who's the best. Handicap given to you big'uns. Winner gets a keg of Lost Hall Porter, cmon!"

The festivities continue on well into the night. A huge bonfire if constructed nearby and the remnants of the old rule are put to fire, turning bitter memories into ashes. Eventually even the pteranodon riders come to visit, after the group explain their presence--the eagles stay away and soar high above in their new eeries. Nagegy brews a heady concoction, similar to what Jet had once imbibed, but this time it was a bit sweeter and more palatable--at least no one threw up immediately.
Katarina can be see singing and dancing around the bonfire as several of the former evacutees have set up a makeshift band and play music much to the delight of most gathered--only the reptilians don't seem to have a fondness of it. A pair of humans stand out amongst the musicians as they sing in perfect harmony. Little is know about them except their names, Edward and Tolly, but they seem to be chroniclers that have traveled the Wold and came here seeking adventure, but only found enslavement--like the rest of the slaves, they are most joyful to be free again.
There seems to be no end to the libations that are available, in fact a lot was brought in when the evacutees returned. This in addition with the magical wines and brews that Katarina summoned up, makes for a very rowdy night of drunkeness, but no one starts a fight--They do however start a drinking contest. Tables are brought up and it's alike a round robin affair, but no one is putting up a prize, until Katarina learns of it. "A trade bar of Mithral worth 1000gp to the winner of the drinking bout!" She slams it down on the table and many join the contest.

Elsewhere, an armwrestling contest is under way, and the ex-slave Thrul is handily beating everyone that comes his way. "Beat me if you can!" He boasts, to which Katarina chimes in, "Anyone who can beat this fine Thrul, get's a Ring of Protection +1. If you can't beat him, he gets it and a kiss from me!" It was very apparent that Katarina was sloshed at this point.

Everything is going along well as Katarina calls out to the revelers, "I've got a few more party games! I've hidden a magic item somewhere nearby--not in the mine! Don't go there. The person who finds it, gets to keep it! you'll know what it is cause I put a congratulatory note on it!" Making sure everyone heard what she said, she continues, "And two more games to play!"
If you wish to take part in the treasure hunt, please make a Perception roll
Bringing out a gem, she states empathically, "The person who can tell me exactly how much this is worth, gets to keep it!" The gem is a star ruby and reflects the bonfire's light with an intoxicating hue.
Please make an Appraise check if you wish to guess the value of the gem.
"And lastly, this wand!" Placing it on the table gingerly. "Anyone who can figure out how to use it, can keep it. But beware, I'm not responsible for anything that happens from it's use, or misuse."
Please make an Use Magic Device check if you want to try out the wand.
Katarina is grabbing on to furniture, or anything for that matter, as she drinks more and more and really loosens up. "Best party, evar! We don't do this at the Guild ever, always this, or that, pfft! I should move out here, damn Magister Helus always in my bizness, always asking questions. SHUT UP! I should say to him, damn nosy bastard. Damn..." Katarina takes another swig and empties her flagon, then immediately stumbles her way back to refill her stein.
Nearby Edward and Tolly are singing a sad ballad: Sunday is Gloomy, My hours are slumberless, Dearest the shadows I live with are numberless Little white flowers will never awaken you Not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you Angels have no thought of ever returning you Would they be angry if I thought of joining you Gloomy Sunday!
When they finish they immediately begin a new tune, one more uplifting to note the new beginning of another day: When I wake up yeah I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you When I go out yeah I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
If I get drunk yes I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you And if I haver yeah I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you
But I would walk 500 miles And I would walk 500 more Just to be the man who walked 1000miles To fall down at your door!
Drinking and the general friendly comradierie fills the night well past the moons dancing around the sky. The drinks continue to fill magically and all manner of feasting is had well past the point of abated hunger. Rosy cheeks, warm smiles, good stories, well sung and badly sung songs continue as the fellowship of the town caresses each of it's own like a lover's embrace.

He refrains from too much celebration as the night goes on, but he does try to make friends and make himself known to the people of the town (Diplomacy: 23).

When the contest to find an item appears, Garret's eyes get big and he calls out, "Ah, there be no need for anyone else to look, for I shall find this one long before anyone else has a chance. I've been finding things all my life, and I'll be quick to point out this one as well." He moves quickly to search, watching to see where others are searching as well (Perception: 28).
When the appraisal contest is announced, Garret is in a better mood, but he still glances up at the sky and towards the entrance to the town on occasion. He shrugs and says, "I'll make a guess, but it be little more than a guess at the value. Here, let me have a look." (Appraise: 19).
Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste] Monday October 10th, 2011 1:44:43 PM
Keela joins in the celebration. She drinks some of Nagegy's brew. Actually, she drinks rather more of Nagegy's brew than is strictly wise. She becomes giddy and giggly, and she dances and laughs more than is her wont.
She does not participate in any of the contests, having none of the required skills. However, she has a wonderful time.

Zeph is quite amazed by the amount of activity that arises in the mine so quickly. He greets the newly arriving dwarven settlers gives plenty of high-fives to freed slaves.
The teleportation magic is very interesting, and he asks Katarina, "May I travel as a passenger in a trip to assess the Star Mage's guild for a moment because I'm very curious? I will come back with the last trip to maximize my time there."
If allowed, Zeph will explore the Star Mage's guild as much as he is allowed and try to meet as many wizards as he can, constantly asking questions about the finer points of magic, wanting to learn more.
After returning and seeing the party that is going on, Zeph jumps right to it to the LIMBO! (Dex check = 14), probably hitting his head on the bar and slipping in the mud.
Then the drinking contest! Zeph chugs one beer after another, the elf getting tipsy for a second, then straightening himself like a meditating jedi (Fort save = 21!)
Then Katarina announces the scavenger hunt and Zeph thinks, Magic Item eh? Lets see if Garret can compete with this. Zeph will use his metamagic rod of silence in combination with a sleight of hand check (32, nat 20!) to cast Detect Magic without anyone noticing, then he focuses around looking for the aura she may have been referring to (Perception = 22).
The game with Appraising the Gem is very interesting and Zeph holds it in his hand, weighing it and eyeing it carefully (Appraise = 19)
Finally, Zeph tries out the magical wand, giving it a little flick and the draconic command word, "Lumos" (Use Magic Device = 24)
Zeph enjoys the ballad by Edward and Tolly. He approaches them afterwards and asks, "If you would write a chronicle of my friends, Garret, Keela, Koko, and myself. I would be glad to finance the venture." Then he hand the couple 50gold to start off with. "I wish you two luck."
But towards the end of the night, Zeph focuses his mind and says to Katarina, "We should make battle plans"

As the party starts to wind down, Garret wanders over to the entrance to the town, looking out over the lands around. He imagines the area around the town full of campfires and an encamped enemy, ready to attack the town. He thinks, "Well, at least they can't starve us out, as long as Katarina is willing to bring supplies and people in and out with the teleportation."

OOC: Sorry about the delay. Was Thanksgiving weekend and I spent it at the cottage.
IC: Koko would have had a hard time watching the dogs being subdued had he stayed to watch, but he decided it best that he leave the area, for eventually he needed these dogs to trust him. Beating them with a stick probably would hinder this somewhat.
As he walked off he reminded himself that this was a far better fate than simply slaughtering the dogs.
...
Koko was quiet during the celebration, partially because he was also mesmorized by all of the action. He had never seen anything like this before and he just couldn't take his eyes off the goings-on.
Eventually he was convinced to partake in the limbo, which was an activity he found most unusual. His solution was to turn into a small chipmonk and easily slip well below the pole. When he changed back to human form it became obvious that he was pleased with himself, though the judges likely did not share his enthusiasm.
Shortly afterwards he joined the drinking game and slugged back what he could. The the strange drink looked much like his favorite drink- bog tea- but it tasted like liquid fireball. One gulp and he almost passed out.
"I think i preferred the fireball to the face, thank you" Koko said as he dropped out of the competition.
He was much more successful in the treasure hunt, as his keen eyes helped him close in on the prize quickly.

Freedom part 4 -- DM Jim d100=29 ; Tuesday October 11th, 2011 11:20:22 PM
The party progresses nicely, everyone seems to be enjoying himself, especially Katarina. When Zeph talks to Katarina about the Sages Guild, she just smiles, giggles a little maybe and explains as best she can, "Ain't happening. You have to be a member of the guild to walk it's halls and to do that requires an interview and approval of you application. If you're interested in joining, let me know later, after all this business is done as it's not a fast process. Now, go drink up and enjoy the night."
When it comes to the games, Garret is rather lucky in the scavenger hunt. In one of the smaller buildings, on a window sill, is a small box with a bow and card on it. The card reads, "Congratulations! Who ever finds this may claim it as their own." Inside the box is a Bead of Force.
Picking up the wand, which grows to the size of a rod, Zeph goes through a plethora of command words and finally finds the correct one, "Miror!" And immediately a Stinking Cloud appears overhead and slowly begins to descend on the crowd, causing many of the party goers to exclaim out none so kindly at the nasty smelling sorcery.
Keela only partakes of the party and none of it's games, however, Koko does try out some of the games and finds his luck is no where to be found.
Near the end of the night, early morning, Zeph mentions to the highly inebriated Katarina about making battle plans. To which the dwarf looks at him like he's lost his mind."I think it can wait, look around you, we're all drunk, if we try to make plans now, hell, I don't know, it's stupid. Go drink some more and talk to me tomor... today, later in the afternoon. Okay, sonny boy?" Katarina doesn't wait for a response, she saunters off to get another refill--and when I say saunter, I mean crashing into everything to keep her upright like a billiard ball.

When Garret finds the small bead, he gives out a yell, "Huzzah! I've got it!" He runs over to the searching Zeph and shows him what he's found.
As the early morning hours arrive, Garret watches Katarina stagger around and he wonders how much more able she will be to make plans on the next day.
The Morning After -- DM Jim Wednesday October 12th, 2011 1:12:01 PM
Well into the afternoon, the group rises to find a number of the ex-slaves missing. A quick ask-about, and it's learned that they wanted to leave Bryn for good, so Katarina kept true to her promise and she and her helper mages teleported not too long ago.
However, before she left, she left a note with Tolly--one of the duo of chroniclers that accepted a job from Zeph, who promptly gave it to him upon his waking. "Dear Heroes, I've returned to Plateau City but will return on the morrow with some items that may help you during your defense of the town. I've told the former evacutees that you guys are in charge and there's plenty of picks and shovels for them to use to make a moat, or pittraps, etc... if that's your plan. Katarina."
It's up to you guys now. Form some battle plans. There are currently 50 former evacutees and 15 ex-slaves and 6 mean draahk hounds.
Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10] Thursday October 13th, 2011 12:08:09 PM
Garret rises refreshed and ready and looks around the town and the sleepy, tired people that are now its only defense. He looks over at Zeph as he reads the letter and then says, "Well, then. Does anyone have any experience fortifying a town? I don't know much about such things. I guess we should do something about all the back entrances we managed to keep finding, however..."

Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste] Friday October 14th, 2011 12:30:29 PM
Keela looks around at her silent companions. "Well," she begins. "Well, I guess we should get some archers up on the towers. That's going to depend on how many actual bows and crossbows we have, and who knows how to shoot them."
She thinks. "We should also have a team of archers ready to go up in Avis, since we should expect an attack from the air."
"Let's put the rest of the people at the gate and along the walls. Much of the attack will come from the air, but last time there was also a ground assault. Give them polearms, if we have them, so they can keep attackers off the walls. And push over ladders and things."
"Let's keep the hounds in reserve. They're pretty fast, so they can get to where they're needed quickly."
She looks around again, then bites her lip. "At least," she says, much more hesitant, "that's one idea. I'm not really a strategist, though. What do the rest of you think?"
Battle plans -- DM Jim Friday October 14th, 2011 12:58:03 PM
As time passes, the former evacutees and ex-slaves gather around the group and await a plan of action.
Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 25/24t/19ff CMD 24 (Mage Armor, Prot vs. Evil. prot vs fire)) d20+13=15 Friday October 14th, 2011 5:54:53 PM
Zeph looks around him and then at each of his friends before speaking, "We are strong, and this is our opportunity. We must make our stand so that Al Mathir knows the civilized people of New Elenna are here to stay."
Then he takes a large piece of parchment and begins recording every resource available:
Liissst and his fliers. The Eagles. The Heroes 50 evacuees 15 ex-slaves 6 drakh hounds.
He thinks to everyone in his group, Keela, about how many Mathir did they use to assault last time? And how did they break the gate?
Then he says, "I agree with Ms. Larch, archers along the wall and towers are of utmost importance. We should light cauldrons of boiling oil to douse their battering ram operators... Polarms to keep them off the walls are a good idea. But we should keep some better melee fighters in reserve to rush weak points in the wall if it were to be breached.
He looks to Nagegy, "Do you have any spell that could strengthen the front gate and fortify it against a ram?'
Zeph inspects the walls of Bryn Baraz and looks for any side-door or hidden passage that he could use to pop onto the battle field and back behind the wall to harass the enemy. He says, "I will need a brave youth to act as my running messenger. "[b]
After some contemplateion, Zeph speaks, [b]" But we must also be wary of the air assault. Liiissst and Sir Greatwing of the Eagles, I ask for your assistance defending against the red balloons and the other Avis fliers. They use fire attacks, so I hope Katarina can provide potions of fire resist for us. I will give you alchemist fires to ignite their ropes and canvas fliers."
But what if everything goes wrong?
Zeph says, "The mine can be our fallback position. We should construct a door that we can enter and lock out any pursuers. Liisst and Eagles, if this happens, you must seek help to rescue us." He will make sure there are provisions to survive in the mines for a week if necessary.
He looks to Koko and thinks, Can the hounds be retrained?
Finally, Zeph says, "For now, lets all dig a shallow moat and place sharpened stakes at the bottom. We don't know when they will attack, so again I ask Liissst to be our eyes in the sky."
After retrieving Avis and covering it with branches for camoflauge, Zeph will grab a shovel and work alongside everyone to prepare.
Nagegy -- DM Jim Friday October 14th, 2011 10:09:54 PM "I can form a wall of stone behind the front gate, sealing it off completely." Scratching his chin, "I could summon some creatures for the moat, but if we put spikes in there, they'll be affected too... unless I summon some snakes and well, I'd rather not do that." The hermit visibly shakes when he mentions the snakes.
