Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 25/24t/19ff CMD 24 (Mage Armor, Prot vs. Evil. prot vs fire))
Wednesday September 28th, 2011 2:22:48 AM

Zeph assists Koko (Sorry guys, this week I have many exams and clients coming in to inspect our laboratory)

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10]
Wednesday September 28th, 2011 10:59:04 AM

Garret watches as Koko and the others try to save the dogs. He looks around and then wanders out of the entranceway to climb the walls, half-expecting to see an army appearing. He looks around the outside of the city for any sign of their enemy. Then he heads back into the city and looks for a building that's in decent shape and tries to clear out any signs of the lizard-people.

Draakh Hounds, table and such -- DM Jim
Wednesday September 28th, 2011 12:25:35 PM

Koko leaves the mine and searches for some tables and finds them in the Admin building. Garret on the otherhand heads out to the walls and passes the Pteranodon riders and eagles that have landed in the training area; they call out to him about what's going on and he see's that there are already several Kothrul manning the walls keeping a lookout and they report nothing in their scans.

Koko returns and tries his table manuevers but they do not work. The tables are either pushed back by the hounds, or pawed at and knocked over as they try to scramble towards the slaves. When Koko changes into a bird they do initially follow the bird and jump at it when it flies near, but when anyone tries for the slaves, they go back into attack mode and make it impossible to free the slaves.

Katarina, completely ignored, sits outside in the sun going through a checklist.

Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 25/24t/19ff CMD 24 (Mage Armor, Prot vs. Evil. prot vs fire))  d20+18=31 ; d20+18=25 ; d20+18=34 ; d20+10=20 ;
Wednesday September 28th, 2011 1:11:11 PM

Zeph thinks to Koko, Prepare what is needed to tame or put the hounds to sleep and we can get them after your spells are ready?

Then he returns outside and searches the Karkassan's corpse for all his metamagic rods and anything else of value. (Spellcraft to ID magic items = 31, 25, and 34.)

Then he waves for Nagegy, the Eagles, and Liiissst to join him as he approaches Katarina and says, "We have secured the settlement, but I fear you may not be able to hold it for long. Al Mathir's shadow is extensive and they will not take this defeat lightly. I want to negotiate... no, I demand that Liiissst and the Eagles be given permanent positions of guardianship with tithes suitable for their services." (Diplomacy = 20)

Then, after letting that sink in he says, "Nagegy has claimed a percentage of ownership for his own crafts. And he has also agreed to assist in the profit-generation of the settlement by producing arts that only he can do. I offer similar services in exchange for partial ownership. This is a wise investment on your part, trust me. You need us much more than we need you."

IF Katarina looks upset or about to argue, Zeph says, "Two minds together can produce greater results than either alone. That's synergy, we have it. The mithril can do so much alone, but with skilled craftsmen, guardians, and leadership it can do so much more."

(OOC: Effective argument?)

Katarina -- DM Jim
Wednesday September 28th, 2011 2:12:26 PM

In his search of magic on the Karkasan, Zeph finds three rods: one lesser extend, one lesser quicken and one greater silent rod; he also finds a magic ring amongst nine other rings the Karkasan had worn.

When he confronts and demands certain accomodations from Katarina, she listened carefully and then answered just as calmy. "Ownership? You ask too much." Katarina replied matter of factly, "You made an agreement to secure the settlement and you will be rewarded for such a noble and heroic deed," Smiling, she continued, "but for the rest, the mine and it's settlement is owned by the mining concern and they will not part with any fraction of it." Looking about, then back at Zeph, "The settlers we removed will return and help fortify and defend this town against any further attacks this day. If you wish to help in that matter, I can offer you a one time deal, and it is this: your group may pick out one building right now and own it outright. One member of your group may be part of the town council as a non-voting member, solely placed there as a consultant. Liist, his riders, and the eagles cannot remain in the town, but have free use of the eeries and cliffs above us. Each of you will be given a wand, if you can use it, to defend the town in case of an emminent attack. That's my best and only offer. Think about it and consult with your friends before you respond." Katarina then bows and heads off for the mine admin building.

Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste]
Wednesday September 28th, 2011 7:37:01 PM

Keela is disappointed, but not surprised, when her spell has little effect.

"I don't know what else we can do," she says. "The slaves cannot wait a full day to be rescued. We're going to need to put the dogs down."

Koko Dogteeth- DIRE TIGER FORM - AC 22/T10/22, HP 66/77
Thursday September 29th, 2011 7:35:12 AM

Koko was surprised that the dogs hadn't managed to tangle their chains, and that both of his plans had failed.

"Brilliant those dogs" Koko said with amazement. "I dont expect that these guys ever chased their own tails."

"Put the dogs down!" the druid said with shock after Keela made her suggestion. "Amazing creatures... far smarter than the average dog. We must save them. Anyone have a grappling hook and rope?"

"Unless..." Koko said suddenly. "Unless they are illusions of dogs?"

Koko closed his eyes and tried to disbelieve.

DM Jim: Still there after you open your eyes.

Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 25/24t/19ff CMD 24 (Mage Armor, Prot vs. Evil. prot vs fire))
Thursday September 29th, 2011 9:43:01 AM

Zeph looks to the leader of the Eagles and to Liissst and says, "As for their part of your offer, only they can answer. I must consult with my team for the other."

Then he transmits the offer to the rest of his teammates via the mental link, What do you guys think?

If Keela, Koko, Garrett, and Evred agree, then Zeph will nod his acceptance of the offer and shake Katarina's hand, and then say, "I would like this negotiation to also include emergency help for me and my friends from the Star Mage's guild in times of crisis. For example, if we are trapped by enemies and about to fight to the death, I would like the option of calling in a favor for a quick teleportation out of there."

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10]
Thursday September 29th, 2011 10:45:57 AM

Garret thinks about what Zeph has said, and while he is looking around town, looking over buildings for a possible home base, he thinks back to the others, "Hey Naggy, is this reasonable to you? Have we met our agreements with the others?"

Nagegy -- DM Jim
Thursday September 29th, 2011 12:40:40 PM

"Sounds fine to me, as long as I get my cut of mithral, I'm good."

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10]
Friday September 30th, 2011 4:01:06 PM

Garret thinks to the group, "We might, then, have a problem. It seems that Katarina is not willing to give up any mithril. At the same time, we have promised some mithril to our good friend Naggy. I think that perhaps Katarina is setting herself and the mining company up for more battles, perhaps against us at this time. Zeph, do you think that Katarina will consider parting with any part of the mine willingly, or are have we now set ourselves up to attempt to hold this mine not only against the lizards, but now against Katarina and her group?"

Meanwhile, Garret continues looking about the town, exploring, looking for a nice building that might have many rooms they can share. Perhaps even a smaller hotel-like building so the group could have individual rooms and a gathering room.

Nagegy -- DM Jim
Saturday October 1st, 2011 4:37:47 PM

Nagegy thinks back to the group, "While you guys were dealing with the hounds, and still are from the looks of it, Katarina told me she would honor my payment of a percentage of the mithral... but there are costs associated with it; mainly because I'm not mining or smelting it myself, I'm an artist, not a miner. As for wresting control of the town from her and the mining concern she's helping, I'd think that would be a death wish. Oh, it wouldn't be a mass attack like the Al Mathirians are probably going to launch against us, but a slow systematic plan of making each one of us disappear night after night."

Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste]
Monday October 3rd, 2011 12:46:28 AM

If you are content with the amount of Mithril she offers, Keela thinks back, then it's fine with me. A little wistfully, I would like to have a place to call home.

Then, more businesslike, Did anybody search the body of that spellcaster? It seems he had a rod or something, right?

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10]
Monday October 3rd, 2011 1:02:43 PM

Garret continues his exploration of the town, searching for just the perfect place for their group to call home. He's imagining a place that when you walk in, you're in a common room, with a large fireplace and perhaps a bar area leading to a kitchen. Perhaps off to the side, or in the rear, there would be a moderate-sized private room. Then there would be stairs leading to an second story where there would be a number of individual rooms that each of the adventurers could call home.

Meanwhile, he communicates with the others through the mental link, "It seems that we are in agreement then, that all parts of our bargain with everyone have been fulfilled. Now we need to decide if we want to try and hold this town against an all-out attack from the lizard people. I don't think diplomacy is going to help this time, we're just going to have to defend. I don't have any other plans at the moment, so I think I'll stay. Who is with me?"

Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 25/24t/19ff CMD 24 (Mage Armor, Prot vs. Evil. prot vs fire))
Monday October 3rd, 2011 10:07:27 PM

Zeph says to Katarina, "It appears we have an agreement, but I also request emergency help from the Star Mage's guild at any time."

Then thinking to the group, I'm going to stay. The dwarven settlers deserve our help."

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10]
Tuesday October 4th, 2011 12:32:42 PM

Garret moves some furniture around and continues to search for exactly the right building for the group's headquarters. He idly wonders how many individual rooms they will need. So far, it looks to be quite a small number. He thinks that perhaps he should look for somewhere with 6-8 rooms or so, as perhaps one day the group will expand again.

As he searches, he thinks about whether the place should have a name. After all, the downstairs common room might even be an inn for gatherings of the public. The Lizard Fire Inn? The Fish Snot Room? The Dead Lizard?

Nagegy -- DM Jim
Tuesday October 4th, 2011 10:23:21 PM

ooc: waiting on Jeff/Koko; I think Ezra is gone from the Wold for a bit--hope he's okay.

Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 25/24t/19ff CMD 24 (Mage Armor, Prot vs. Evil. prot vs fire))  d20+18=30 ; d20+15=35 ;
Wednesday October 5th, 2011 2:34:33 AM

Zeph walks with his longtime friend, Garret, and ponders with him about the size of the new headquarters.
He speaks to him, "Mr. Goodbarrel, we have been friends since waaaay back in Cinnamon valley. Tell me, what are your goals?"

He thinks to Keela, Join us in thinking of our futures. Oh, yes, I have looted the Karkassan, he had three rods of power: one lesser extend, one lesser quicken and one greater silent rod. I feel you can make good use of the Quicken and Extend, but I request to keep the Silent rod so that I may cast spells while invisible and not be detected. Also I have this magic ring....

He activates his Detect Magic and looks over the ring's aura (Spellcraft = 30)

Then Zeph enters the living quarters of the Karkassan and looks around... (perception = 35, natural 20!)

He then ponders over the Draakh hounds...

DM Jim: Ring of Protection +5

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10]
Wednesday October 5th, 2011 11:19:06 AM

Garret greets Zeph and replies, "You know, I have not had many goals. I was raised far from civilization and often traveled to carry messages from one place to another. During that process, I have seen some different lands, some different people, and many things. I have been able to help some that have needed help, and stopped some of those who were intent on evil."

"I have seen many places, but I know there are many more I have not seen. But I have never had a place to call my own. I wonder, if I should have a place here, should we be able to defend and hold this town against those who desire it, what I should do next. I may just relax here for a short time, and speak with people who come to visit. Then again, I may head out and toss a coin to decide which direction in which to travel next."

Koko Dogteeth- DIRE TIGER FORM - AC 22/T10/22, HP 66/77
Wednesday October 5th, 2011 1:12:25 PM

Koko was perplexed about what to do witht he dogs.

"I guess we'll have to pin them down or knock them out and put them in the cages" Koko said. "I guess we could do it a few at a time if we come at them on the right angle?"

Koko studied the chains and tried to determine how they were connected to the dogs. Did they wear a collar? Was their a latch on their collars? What was the maximum length of each chain, and how far were the dogs spaced apart?

DM Jim
Wednesday October 5th, 2011 5:44:32 PM

ooc: if you wish to non-lethal damage the hounds into unconsciousness and pen them up, you can do that safely with reach weapons, just ask :)

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10]
Thursday October 6th, 2011 11:57:09 AM

Garret lifts some furniture, trying to tidy up as he thinks, "Are the dogs really worth that much trouble?"

Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste]
Thursday October 6th, 2011 7:25:13 PM

I would like the other rods; thank you very much, Keela responds.

Then, Future? I...I don't know. I'd like to see my family again. I wonder if they're coming back?

DM Jim
Friday October 7th, 2011 1:12:16 AM

Please LMK what you're going to do with teh hounds: kill, knockout, leave alone....

Zeph then hands the Ring of Protection +5 to Koko and says, "Your tough hide protects the innocents. May it be even tougher."

Zeph will assist in knocking the Draakh hounds unconscious until they can be properly retrained.

With methodical precision, the group incapacitates the Draahk hounds one by one. While they're under they immediately free the slaves--much to their joy. They are a mixed race lot, ranging from dwarves, surface drow, and even a few reptilians. They number about 50, which is incredible considering the cramped confines of their cells. They thank the group profusely, some hugging Keela overly long--whom are immediately pulled off of her only to be replaced by the person helping remove said person, latch onto her; but they are grateful. When Nagegy is spotted, there is some concern, but he explains that he's even more hated by the other Mathirians than the slaves are, and a few of the reptilian slaves--a Kothrul and Thrul both recognize Nagegy and vouch for what he has claimed.

After moving the hounds into a cell and locking it securely, much to the consernation of some of the slaves--they let it be known that the hounds were only fed slaves, never anything else, the group and slaves are addressed by Katarina. She seems a bit nicer now, more than likely because she's asking the slaves to stay and help fight the Mathirians bound to attack in a few days. She makes promises of 1000gp each and a guaranteed job in the mines that will pay very well if they stay. If they do not, then later that night they are free to return to Plateau City via the teleport circle they, the mining concern, will setup shortly. She also explains that 50 or so previous inhabitants will be returning tonight to help protect the town and that there will be a feast to honor the heroes of the day within the hour and to honestly think about staying--to strike a blow against the evil that enslaved them all.

When the talks finish, Katarina goes about her business and explains to the group she is leaving but will be back within minutes as she starts shuttling in the townfolk from Plateau City. True to her word, about 10 minutes later after teleporting out, she re-appears at the training grounds with a few more mages and many of the previous townfolk that had been evacuated. This goes on several times until all the evacutees have been returned. Many come forward and thank the group, giving Keela flowers and chocolates, and the men bottles of wine, beer and mead.

Katarina announces with a flourish, "Let the party begin!" and strikes the ground with an ornate rod. Instantly a palatial tent--a huge pavilion of silk 60 feet across springs into existence. Inside the tent are furnishings and food suitable to the splendor of the pavilion and sufficient to entertain as many as 100 people. Everyone begins to eat and drink away the worries of the future, the weariness of the day begins to fade away and is replaced by smiling faces, strong handshakes and welcomed hugs.

During the festivities, Katarina sets up a limbo pole and says joyfully, "Lets see who's the best. Handicap given to you big'uns. Winner gets a keg of Lost Hall Porter, cmon!"

Anyone who wants to partake of the limbo contest, please make a Dex check

Sunday October 9th, 2011 4:45:31 PM

The festivities continue on well into the night. A huge bonfire if constructed nearby and the remnants of the old rule are put to fire, turning bitter memories into ashes. Eventually even the pteranodon riders come to visit, after the group explain their presence--the eagles stay away and soar high above in their new eeries. Nagegy brews a heady concoction, similar to what Jet had once imbibed, but this time it was a bit sweeter and more palatable--at least no one threw up immediately.

Katarina can be see singing and dancing around the bonfire as several of the former evacutees have set up a makeshift band and play music much to the delight of most gathered--only the reptilians don't seem to have a fondness of it. A pair of humans stand out amongst the musicians as they sing in perfect harmony. Little is know about them except their names, Edward and Tolly, but they seem to be chroniclers that have traveled the Wold and came here seeking adventure, but only found enslavement--like the rest of the slaves, they are most joyful to be free again.

There seems to be no end to the libations that are available, in fact a lot was brought in when the evacutees returned. This in addition with the magical wines and brews that Katarina summoned up, makes for a very rowdy night of drunkeness, but no one starts a fight--They do however start a drinking contest. Tables are brought up and it's alike a round robin affair, but no one is putting up a prize, until Katarina learns of it. "A trade bar of Mithral worth 1000gp to the winner of the drinking bout!" She slams it down on the table and many join the contest.

Anyone who wants to join the drinking game, please make a CON check

Elsewhere, an armwrestling contest is under way, and the ex-slave Thrul is handily beating everyone that comes his way. "Beat me if you can!" He boasts, to which Katarina chimes in, "Anyone who can beat this fine Thrul, get's a Ring of Protection +1. If you can't beat him, he gets it and a kiss from me!" It was very apparent that Katarina was sloshed at this point.

Anyone who wants to armwrestle the Thrul, please make a STR check

Sunday October 9th, 2011 6:42:48 PM

Everything is going along well as Katarina calls out to the revelers, "I've got a few more party games! I've hidden a magic item somewhere nearby--not in the mine! Don't go there. The person who finds it, gets to keep it! you'll know what it is cause I put a congratulatory note on it!" Making sure everyone heard what she said, she continues, "And two more games to play!"

If you wish to take part in the treasure hunt, please make a Perception roll

Bringing out a gem, she states empathically, "The person who can tell me exactly how much this is worth, gets to keep it!" The gem is a star ruby and reflects the bonfire's light with an intoxicating hue.

Please make an Appraise check if you wish to guess the value of the gem.

"And lastly, this wand!" Placing it on the table gingerly. "Anyone who can figure out how to use it, can keep it. But beware, I'm not responsible for anything that happens from it's use, or misuse."

Please make an Use Magic Device check if you want to try out the wand.

Katarina is grabbing on to furniture, or anything for that matter, as she drinks more and more and really loosens up. "Best party, evar! We don't do this at the Guild ever, always this, or that, pfft! I should move out here, damn Magister Helus always in my bizness, always asking questions. SHUT UP! I should say to him, damn nosy bastard. Damn..." Katarina takes another swig and empties her flagon, then immediately stumbles her way back to refill her stein.

Nearby Edward and Tolly are singing a sad ballad:

Sunday is Gloomy,
My hours are slumberless,
Dearest the shadows
I live with are numberless
Little white flowers will
never awaken you
Not where the black coach
of sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thought of
ever returning you
Would they be angry
if I thought of joining you
Gloomy Sunday!

When they finish they immediately begin a new tune, one more uplifting to note the new beginning of another day:

When I wake up yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you

If I get drunk yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked 1000miles
To fall down at your door!

Drinking and the general friendly comradierie fills the night well past the moons dancing around the sky. The drinks continue to fill magically and all manner of feasting is had well past the point of abated hunger. Rosy cheeks, warm smiles, good stories, well sung and badly sung songs continue as the fellowship of the town caresses each of it's own like a lover's embrace.

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:35/35/29 HP:50/50 Ki:8/10]  d20+5=18 ; d20+17=28 ; d20+1=19 ; d20+5=23 ;
Monday October 10th, 2011 1:43:37 PM

Garret starts to relax as the slaves are freed and the tent appears. He still glances up at the sky on occasion, expecting the floating city to appear and attack at any time. He refrains from too much celebration as the night goes on, but he does try to make friends and make himself known to the people of the town (Diplomacy: 23).

When the party really starts going and the limbo contest is announced he grins and says, "Ah, but it be hardly fair for me to participate, does it not? Here now, lower that bar to the halfling limbo height! He joins in with other shorter people to complete (Dex check: 18), but does not do so well.

When the contest to find an item appears, Garret's eyes get big and he calls out, "Ah, there be no need for anyone else to look, for I shall find this one long before anyone else has a chance. I've been finding things all my life, and I'll be quick to point out this one as well." He moves quickly to search, watching to see where others are searching as well (Perception: 28).

When the appraisal contest is announced, Garret is in a better mood, but he still glances up at the sky and towards the entrance to the town on occasion. He shrugs and says, "I'll make a guess, but it be little more than a guess at the value. Here, let me have a look." (Appraise: 19).

Keela [AC 19; HP 34/61] [Haste]
Monday October 10th, 2011 1:44:43 PM

Keela joins in the celebration. She drinks some of Nagegy's brew. Actually, she drinks rather more of Nagegy's brew than is strictly wise. She becomes giddy and giggly, and she dances and laughs more than is her wont.

She does not participate in any of the contests, having none of the required skills. However, she has a wonderful time.

Zeph Illidian HP 77/78 AC 25/24t/19ff CMD 24 (Mage Armor, Prot vs. Evil. prot vs fire))  d20+6=14 ; d20+2=21 ; d20+14=22 ; d20+9=19 ; d20+7=24 ; d20+12=32 ;
Monday October 10th, 2011 10:44:14 PM

Zeph is quite amazed by the amount of activity that arises in the mine so quickly.
He greets the newly arriving dwarven settlers gives plenty of high-fives to freed slaves.

The teleportation magic is very interesting, and he asks Katarina, "May I travel as a passenger in a trip to assess the Star Mage's guild for a moment because I'm very curious? I will come back with the last trip to maximize my time there."

If allowed, Zeph will explore the Star Mage's guild as much as he is allowed and try to meet as many wizards as he can, constantly asking questions about the finer points of magic, wanting to learn more.

After returning and seeing the party that is going on, Zeph jumps right to it to the LIMBO! (Dex check = 14), probably hitting his head on the bar and slipping in the mud.

Then the drinking contest! Zeph chugs one beer after another, the elf getting tipsy for a second, then straightening himself like a meditating jedi (Fort save = 21!)

Then Katarina announces the scavenger hunt and Zeph thinks, Magic Item eh? Lets see if Garret can compete with this.
Zeph will use his metamagic rod of silence in combination with a sleight of hand check (32, nat 20!) to cast Detect Magic without anyone noticing, then he focuses around looking for the aura she may have been referring to (Perception = 22).

The game with Appraising the Gem is very interesting and Zeph holds it in his hand, weighing it and eyeing it carefully (Appraise = 19)

Finally, Zeph tries out the magical wand, giving it a little flick and the draconic command word, "Lumos" (Use Magic Device = 24)

Zeph enjoys the ballad by Edward and Tolly. He approaches them afterwards and asks, "If you would write a chronicle of my friends, Garret, Keela, Koko, and myself. I would be glad to finance the venture." Then he hand the couple 50gold to start off with. "I wish you two luck."

But towards the end of the night, Zeph focuses his mind and says to Katarina, "We should make battle plans"

As the party starts to wind down, Garret wanders over to the entrance to the town, looking out over the lands around. He imagines the area around the town full of campfires and an encamped enemy, ready to attack the town. He thinks, "Well, at least they can't starve us out, as long as Katarina is willing to bring supplies and people in and out with the teleportation."

OOC: Sorry about the delay. Was Thanksgiving weekend and I spent it at the cottage.

IC:
Koko would have had a hard time watching the dogs being subdued had he stayed to watch, but he decided it best that he leave the area, for eventually he needed these dogs to trust him. Beating them with a stick probably would hinder this somewhat.

As he walked off he reminded himself that this was a far better fate than simply slaughtering the dogs.

...

Koko was quiet during the celebration, partially because he was also mesmorized by all of the action. He had never seen anything like this before and he just couldn't take his eyes off the goings-on.

Eventually he was convinced to partake in the limbo, which was an activity he found most unusual. His solution was to turn into a small chipmonk and easily slip well below the pole. When he changed back to human form it became obvious that he was pleased with himself, though the judges likely did not share his enthusiasm.

Shortly afterwards he joined the drinking game and slugged back what he could. The the strange drink looked much like his favorite drink- bog tea- but it tasted like liquid fireball. One gulp and he almost passed out.

"I think i preferred the fireball to the face, thank you" Koko said as he dropped out of the competition.

He was much more successful in the treasure hunt, as his keen eyes helped him close in on the prize quickly.

The party progresses nicely, everyone seems to be enjoying himself, especially Katarina. When Zeph talks to Katarina about the Sages Guild, she just smiles, giggles a little maybe and explains as best she can, "Ain't happening. You have to be a member of the guild to walk it's halls and to do that requires an interview and approval of you application. If you're interested in joining, let me know later, after all this business is done as it's not a fast process. Now, go drink up and enjoy the night."

When it comes to the games, Garret is rather lucky in the scavenger hunt. In one of the smaller buildings, on a window sill, is a small box with a bow and card on it. The card reads, "Congratulations! Who ever finds this may claim it as their own." Inside the box is a Bead of Force.

Picking up the wand, which grows to the size of a rod, Zeph goes through a plethora of command words and finally finds the correct one, "Miror!" And immediately a Stinking Cloud appears overhead and slowly begins to descend on the crowd, causing many of the party goers to exclaim out none so kindly at the nasty smelling sorcery.

Keela only partakes of the party and none of it's games, however, Koko does try out some of the games and finds his luck is no where to be found.

Near the end of the night, early morning, Zeph mentions to the highly inebriated Katarina about making battle plans. To which the dwarf looks at him like he's lost his mind."I think it can wait, look around you, we're all drunk, if we try to make plans now, hell, I don't know, it's stupid. Go drink some more and talk to me tomor... today, later in the afternoon. Okay, sonny boy?" Katarina doesn't wait for a response, she saunters off to get another refill--and when I say saunter, I mean crashing into everything to keep her upright like a billiard ball.

When Garret finds the small bead, he gives out a yell, "Huzzah! I've got it!" He runs over to the searching Zeph and shows him what he's found.

As the early morning hours arrive, Garret watches Katarina stagger around and he wonders how much more able she will be to make plans on the next day.

Well into the afternoon, the group rises to find a number of the ex-slaves missing. A quick ask-about, and it's learned that they wanted to leave Bryn for good, so Katarina kept true to her promise and she and her helper mages teleported not too long ago.

However, before she left, she left a note with Tolly--one of the duo of chroniclers that accepted a job from Zeph, who promptly gave it to him upon his waking. "Dear Heroes, I've returned to Plateau City but will return on the morrow with some items that may help you during your defense of the town. I've told the former evacutees that you guys are in charge and there's plenty of picks and shovels for them to use to make a moat, or pittraps, etc... if that's your plan. Katarina."

It's up to you guys now. Form some battle plans. There are currently 50 former evacutees and 15 ex-slaves and 6 mean draahk hounds.

Garret rises refreshed and ready and looks around the town and the sleepy, tired people that are now its only defense. He looks over at Zeph as he reads the letter and then says, "Well, then. Does anyone have any experience fortifying a town? I don't know much about such things. I guess we should do something about all the back entrances we managed to keep finding, however..."

Keela looks around at her silent companions. "Well," she begins. "Well, I guess we should get some archers up on the towers. That's going to depend on how many actual bows and crossbows we have, and who knows how to shoot them."

She thinks. "We should also have a team of archers ready to go up in Avis, since we should expect an attack from the air."

"Let's put the rest of the people at the gate and along the walls. Much of the attack will come from the air, but last time there was also a ground assault. Give them polearms, if we have them, so they can keep attackers off the walls. And push over ladders and things."

"Let's keep the hounds in reserve. They're pretty fast, so they can get to where they're needed quickly."

She looks around again, then bites her lip. "At least," she says, much more hesitant, "that's one idea. I'm not really a strategist, though. What do the rest of you think?"

Zeph looks around him and then at each of his friends before speaking, "We are strong, and this is our opportunity. We must make our stand so that Al Mathir knows the civilized people of New Elenna are here to stay."

Then he takes a large piece of parchment and begins recording every resource available:

Liissst and his fliers.
The Eagles.
The Heroes
50 evacuees
15 ex-slaves
6 drakh hounds.

He thinks to everyone in his group, Keela, about how many Mathir did they use to assault last time? And how did they break the gate?

Then he says, "I agree with Ms. Larch, archers along the wall and towers are of utmost importance. We should light cauldrons of boiling oil to douse their battering ram operators... Polarms to keep them off the walls are a good idea. But we should keep some better melee fighters in reserve to rush weak points in the wall if it were to be breached.

He looks to Nagegy, "Do you have any spell that could strengthen the front gate and fortify it against a ram?'

Zeph inspects the walls of Bryn Baraz and looks for any side-door or hidden passage that he could use to pop onto the battle field and back behind the wall to harass the enemy.
He says, "I will need a brave youth to act as my running messenger. "[b]

After some contemplateion, Zeph speaks, [b]" But we must also be wary of the air assault. Liiissst and Sir Greatwing of the Eagles, I ask for your assistance defending against the red balloons and the other Avis fliers. They use fire attacks, so I hope Katarina can provide potions of fire resist for us. I will give you alchemist fires to ignite their ropes and canvas fliers."

But what if everything goes wrong?

Zeph says, "The mine can be our fallback position. We should construct a door that we can enter and lock out any pursuers. Liisst and Eagles, if this happens, you must seek help to rescue us." He will make sure there are provisions to survive in the mines for a week if necessary.

He looks to Koko and thinks, Can the hounds be retrained?

Finally, Zeph says, "For now, lets all dig a shallow moat and place sharpened stakes at the bottom. We don't know when they will attack, so again I ask Liissst to be our eyes in the sky."

After retrieving Avis and covering it with branches for camoflauge,
Zeph will grab a shovel and work alongside everyone to prepare.

"I can form a wall of stone behind the front gate, sealing it off completely." Scratching his chin, "I could summon some creatures for the moat, but if we put spikes in there, they'll be affected too... unless I summon some snakes and well, I'd rather not do that." The hermit visibly shakes when he mentions the snakes.
