Toregan looks around, not noticing anything out of the ordinary, and seeing Meranus doing fine work on the litter, he begins to set up a camp. He takes out his bedroll and iron pot, as well as his flint and steel. He then leaves the rest of his gear, except for his bow, handaxe, and armor, and begins to wander around the immediate area looking for any loose firewood, or trees that seem dead and dry enough to chop into firewood. He also looks around for anything that could be edible, knowing that they may be stuck here for some time, and saving as much food as they could, could only help in the long run. He also looks what little sky he can see, the temperature of the air, and the dampness of the air, trying to figure out what time it was and if there was any inclement weather approaching them.
IF Henrix decides to tell the rest of us what he can see/hear/percieve then if it seems hostile in nature, Toregan will take out his bow, find a good place to hide, and ready an action to shoot the first target that performs a hostile action (ie. charge, attack, grapple) if i am allowed to be that specific. If not, then he'll just hide and not prepare an action. After a few minutes all of the sounds of the jungle go back to normal.
Meranus makes a fine litter and the group is able to get Artrius on it. He is stable, but without treatment, it's uncertain how long he will last.
Camp is cleared and set up.
It's late afternoon. Please post the watch order (if there is one.) along with perception checks.

Toregan does his best to fix up Artrius, but without a healer's kit, there isn't much he can do for him. "I'll try to tend to Artrius' wounds as best I can, but I'd need a healers kit to actually fix him up effectively. We need to get to the Trading post as soon as possible. They probably have someone that can help him. In the meantime, I'll just keep him in as little pain as possible." He then looks up to the sky and notes the angle of the sun through the trees. "It'll be starting to get dark soon. Might want to just rest here for a day or so. See if we can do anything for Artrius. I'll take the last watch so that I can patch up Artrius for awhile. I'll try to do the same for you Songsteel. You still seem to be hurting from our last fight." Henrix and Heckle return from foraging without much success. When the ranger finishes speaking, Henrix approaches him and places a gloved hand on the man's arm. He stares at him seriously, though not urgently. The raven speaks in a level voice as compared to his normally effusive tones. "The jungle is a dangerous place. This area is not safe. There is something nearby that makes everything else go quiet. We should not stay here." Henrix then removes his arm and his expression again becomes blank.
The effect is ruined as Heckle begins to snicker.
At some point while out of earshot of the others, Henrix will whisper to Tack a question the halfling has probably heard from him a hundred times: "Are yyyou surewecannn truuuuust... thessep-p-people?"
Henrix watches as Toregan clumsily attempts first aid on the Wayfarer, feeling that his current magical knowledge is quite incompetent. Toregan listens intently to Henrix, feeling that whenever the young mage actually said anything, it was something important. He nods as Heckle informs him of the situation. "I agree with you completely Henrix. It's not safe here. I didn't notice the forest going quiet though. Good job noticing that. That usually means a predator, or some hostile entity is nearby. If we can get a fire going, that might discourage whatever is out there. Here in the jungle, its most likely an animal, and they don't generally attack large groups of 'prey' or approach fire willingly." Toregan looks around the camp carefully, his face contorting into an expression of deep thought. "We should leave in the morning. The sooner we get to safety the better. I don't like our odds of surviving here for a long period of time. still, no use worrying about it now. Just try to relax and get some sleep. We'll need all our strength to get to the CTP."

Meranus immediately volunteers for first watch, although he will look confused when people start taking about fourth, fifth and sixth watches - "Why so many? Are they in fashion among your people?" He also votes in favor of fire, both for warmth and for light for the watchpeople. He isn't exactly sure what clearing the camp is, but not doing it seems like the weaker course, so - "Of course we're going to do it!" When the option of sleeping in trees is raised, Meranus looks up at the branches, down at his body, and returns a firm "No."
Meranus fulfils his watch obligations admirably, then immediately retreats into his tent. The snores emanating from it are interspersed with occasional curses at the guide that needed his sleeping bag.

The first moon sets dropping the jungle under the canopy into utter darkness. It does not last overly long, but for Henrix it might be the longest t20 minutes of his life. First Dawn Monday October 24th, 2011 8:42:49 PM
The centipedes are quite dead and Leonan makes extra sure as Toregan helps the pair of poisoned heroes. The poison seems to have already run its course, at least it is getting no worse. In a day or two the affects should be completely gone. Ability damage heals tat the rate of 1 point per day. this attack occurred just before sunrise
Tack feels the venom is likely worth something but has no idea how to get any, where the glands or sacs or whatever a centipede has as an internal organ storage or what they would look like if he were looking at them even if they randomly just started cutting into them.
An hour passes before the sun begins to brighten the sky and it takes nearly another 2 before any real light gets through to the canopy floor. Other than, gnats, no-see-ums, flies and mosquitoes though the group is unmoleseted. Just as light shies through the thick cover above a mighty, yet distant trumpet, like that of an elephant of amazing size calls out and the distant echoes roll through the trees. The local insect and small animal life seem to take no notice and the sounds of birds and small animals moving about above and in the leaves upon the floor continue uninterrupted. Artrius' condition has improved, though he is still unconscious.

He stops and looks around as the trumpeting noise washes over the group and relaxes slightly as he notices that the other creatures have paid it no heed. He looks over the bloodied/ichored bodies of the ferocious vermin that attacked them in the night with a disdainful look on his face. "Tch. These hides might've been useful. Too bad we have to leave them here to rot, but we really should get going." The group makes quick work of breaking the camp and getting ready to travel, following Toregan's direction towards the mesa he saw yesterday that is hopefully the one with the trading post. Artrius is secure and Meranus has no issues carrying the wounded man. the heat and humiditiy of the day seem to increase at a constant rate yet somehow it is not actually raining. Within an hour of sunrise it feels as if it is well over 100 and oppressive is about the best term any can think of to describe the conditions. The insects are ever present and how they know the precise level of every party members face regardless of race or movement is a mystery, but minor cloud of gnats seem guided by the gods on that specific mission. The canopy above seems in constant motion with small animals and the occassional glimpse of something larger such as a monkey and even a jaguar for a brief moment as the big cat gauged the party some 70' below.
Birds fly about, bright colored macaws and small anonymous black and brown ones. Food and water are certainly in abundance, but as Toregan and others with survival skills point out, much of it is not suited for consumption. The heat continues to climb and as the day moves towards its apex several more thunderous trumpets are heard from far to the east, rolling into the the thicker jungle. The creatures who are the cause must be large indeed to be heard from such a distance and into such an environment as the group now moves.
High noon passes and aftera short rest to refill water skins at a clear stream the party is moving again and the humidity has finally spiked. The sky open and the group soon finds themselves in a deluge. All sound, save that of water striking broad leaves and the ground about them ceases. Visibility retracts instantly to a mere few feet....

Even with the horrible, boggy humidity, the annoying, pesky gnats, and even the threat of giant beasts in the jungle, at the sight of the panther, Toregan has never felt more at home. Once the rain begins though, Toregan begins to see problems. Calling out for the group to stop, he gathers them in the driest area he can find. He begins talking with a neutral expression on his face, "While I am usually fairly confident in my abilities to find my way through all kinds of wilderness, this rain is making it quite difficult for me." Toregan pauses a second, and breathes a short sigh. "If we continue on, I cannot promise that we will not veer off from our destination by accident. However, we could also manage to stay on track and not lose any of our precious time. If I had to choose, I'd say we press on, but what do the rest of you think?"

Meranus may be the best off of the party, with a ranger-sized obstruction to duck his head under. He does not, however, appreciate the mud under his feet. Slipping in this mud and in this company... "We need to do what's best for the weakest of us. Right now, that's this one," Meranus says, as he prods the underside of the stretcher with one horn. "I'm fine with pressing on. Is he?"

(Andrew) Henrix Sharpsword AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 11 -- HP 10/10 Thursday October 27th, 2011 10:00:48 PM
Henrix makes no contribution to the discussion. It's unclear whether he simply can't hear the party over the downpour or if he's just so focused on his spellcasting that he can't be bothered. He's spent his day alternating between trying to Prestidigitate an impenetrable bubble against insects (with little success) and trying to concentrate on researching a new spell to do something similar (with even less success). He gave up this endeavor when, while walking and reading, he tripped over a rock and fell rather comically into a patch of mud. Heckle thought it was hilarious, and has begun to refer to him as "mud mage" for the last hour. Now Henrix is angrily using the same cantrip to try to keep his garments dry, though they are being soaked faster than he can dry them.
Heckle is nowhere to be seen, safely tucked into an inside pocket of Henrix's robe.

Toregan pulls the group under a large monkey pod tree, which offers at least some relief from the pouring rain to discuss the groups thoughts on continuing. Toregan believes he can maintain the groups course and if the rest feel satisfied with that he will push on.
Yngvar is concerned with being tired after pushing through the weather and having issue finding a good camp
Meranus expresses some concern over the Wayfarer, Artrius. What might become of the human he currently uses to shield himself from the rain?
Leonan leaves the final decision to Toregan, but does believe moving blindly through an unknown jungle to be a dangerous proposition. There is obviously something about that is quite large and has no issue with the weather's downturn.
Henrix is quite absorbed in his own issues to care about where the group gets soaked to the bone
and so the party confers under the partial protection of a monkey pod tree. The Wold extends about 20' before being completely lost in blinding sheets of rain, which is about 15 further than anyone could see while not under the tree. Other than rain and their own shouting voices, there is nothing to hear. Nothing save another trumpeting blast from somewhere far to the east.

When finished, he will start doing the same for the others, assuming they let him. He seems to be waiting for Toregan to make a decision, whom he watches expectantly.

"With Artrius wounded we should get there as fast as possible, but this rain can't be good for his condition." He looks around the group, nodding at Yngvar before continuing. "We press on, and if we manage to find an area with decent shelter from the rain, we'll camp there." With that, Toregan once again leads the group out into the rain, continuing in the direction the were headed before, and moving at a slower pace so that no one would be separated from the group. The down pour continues for the entire day. Toregan locates a suitable site to rest overnight that at least keeps most of the rain off. A rain which is still coming down hard as the day turns to twilight and then becomes night. Artrius's condition is hard to tell, possibly worse possibly better, definitely unconscious with numerous broken bones and a fever.
With the rain the land beneath the trees is very dark, but hopefully it will also keep the unwanted critters in for the night as well. Occasionally the sky high above lights up with a brilliant flash of lightning and rolling thunderclap. It looks to be another beautiful night of rest in the jungle

Toregan makes sure Artrius is placed in the driest area of their camp. He picks up Meranus's comment and replies somewhat distractedly, "Yes, but the moisture can cause infections in a person, and reduce their body's ability to heal and recover. With his wounds something like that can be a death sentence." Toregan feels Artrius's forehead and shakes his head gravely. "He's got a fever, which probably means an infection. I don't have the supplies to heal him properly here. We leave early in the morning, and rain or not we'll travel the whole day. We need to make up on lost time." He then begins to search around the camp for any wood that may be dry enough for a fire. "A fire would probably help him stay dry, but I really doubt that there will be enough dry wood for a fire." Toregan sighs while slowly going around camp, carefully inspecting each branch and tree limb on the ground for its dampness. "This storm couldn't have come at a worse time. I wonder..." Toregan looks up at the massive trees that this jungle consists of. "Is the forest testing us? Is this place akin to the Crying Woods?" An involuntary shiver runs through his body at the thought. The Crying Woods had always given him a feeling of danger and hostility, a feeling not present in him right now, but what if? He pushes these thoughts from his mind. "If this is the jungle's will, then I shall overcome it. Artrius will be saved." Toregan volunteers for the last watch, and attempts to treat Meranus in addition to Artrius and Leonan this night. While his attempts to ease Meranus' and Leonan's wounds were as successful as his previous attempts, He seemed to make progress with Artrius, a welcome development in this hostile land.

The rain finally relents about mid way through the second shift. Insects roar to life and may perhaps even be more abundant then they were before the rain. A fire was impossible save what may have been an hour at most by burning the staff like object Meranus has. Night deepens, the moons rise and pale silver streams break through the great jungle canopy and with the clearing of the storm clouds the Ning begins to take on a nearly pleasant outlook. Nocturnal animals emerge both upon the ground and above on the canopy and sky
This night no creatures find the resting party by design or accident. A. Few tense moments occur as a pair of jaguars stalk about the camp for about an hour before deciding to move on and not come after Meranus
Leonan spies several tiny lizard creatures leaping through the canopy much like squirrels and he witnesses a hawk sized bat shoot through the canopy in a failed attempt to catch one
Torregan's sharp eyes catch movement on the ground nearly 90' up and in the thicker tree branches a small biped and perhaps was the reflection of light off of an object just below the head. "Our luck seems to be turning. Maybe this jungle isn't such a bad place after all." As his gaze falls over the area he saw the creature his grin fades from his face, and is replaced by a concerned look. "What could that have been? It could have been a sentient being, but to be able to get up there so stealthily and disappear from my sight..... Is there really a beast in this jungle with those skills?" Morning arrives and the group prepares to move out. Yngvar managed a crude but functional piece of headgear for any who wants it and a shelter or really a blanket like covering for Artrius. The Wayfarer is still unconscious and with fever though the fever is not dangerously high
With Toregan leading the way, the group pushes on. The ranger finds himself unable to identify much of the flora and fauna about. The Cthonian jungle is an an ancient and primitive jungle. A botonists dream come true. There are though familiar and common features that Toregan can identify and basic rules of the wilds seem to apply. Bright reds and purples are warnings of toxins, large broad leaf plants are edible and their stems hold water and other such truths. Shortly after beginning the days trek, a canopy break confirms the Mesa is still where it should and that by mid morning of the next day the group should be standing at it's base
Midday break after four hours of hacking through the jungle is a much welcomed rest. Sunlight glitters high above and the heat and humidity has everyone thoroughly soaked and covered in sweat. Insects and small birds buzz and call out and Artrius is the same as he was.

Heckle spies a lone figure nearly 100' up in the a tree about 40 behind the group. It is small and dark in coloration and humanoid
(Andrew) Henrix Sharpsword AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 11 -- HP 10/10 Saturday November 5th, 2011 12:31:36 PM
Heckle calls out merrily, "Someone's following us in the trees!"
Henrix puts a hand up to silence the bird, his eyes fixed on the movement to their right. He stops and looks to Toregan, seeing that the ranger has already spotted this other danger.

I'll be taking over for Dan on the morrow. Mwahahahahahaha!
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 17 -- HP 11/11 Sunday November 6th, 2011 9:40:20 PM
Toregan eyes the movement to their right warily, stowing his axe in his belt and taking out his longbow. He warns the rest of the group of their apparent stalkers. "Watch your right. Something's there." However, with Heckle's alerting cry, Toregan tries to look back at the trees, but can't seem to succeed in pinpointing the figure. After he fails at locating the figure he softly asks the group their next course of action as they continue along the path. "I can't see whatever is following us, but I'm pretty sure it would be whatever I saw in the trees lats night. It appears we are garnering a decent amount of attention. Unfortunately, if they're hostile, we may end up getting ambushed. We could call out to them and see if they respond. That might end the problem here, but it also might call more creatures to our position. Thoughts?"
(Josh) Meranus Stormhorn AC 16/12/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 13/15 Monday November 7th, 2011 4:57:46 PM
Meranus sets the fragile human down carefully and tells the ranger, "Allow me." Since this place is supposed to be like a wilder Taur Isles, the minotaur can guess at the proper protocols. Turning to the right of the group, Meranus bellows in a deep voice. "HELLO, ALL OF YOU SMALL ONES. We are the brave clan of Stormhorn and our protected. We seek safe passage to the Cthonian clanhome called Tradingpost. We also have injured. Medicine and a direction would be most welcome. What say you?!"

Meranus gets a response from the Jungle from the right of the group to the sound of Phoomp, Phoomp, Phoomp, Phoomp, in rapid succession. The leaves of the jungle move as something whistles through the air.
A second later more whistling comes from the left and then front.

Meranus has had enough of the jungle. He thinks the human in the bar that told him about the wonders of Cthonia might have been overstating things a bit. The minotaur thinks it's time to share some of his own impressions, and leave a few besides.
Pulling the darts out of his arm with contempt (Fort save 20), Meranus stalks into the bush with a roar about twice as loud as his greeting. He keeps going unless he sees, hears (Perception 18), or runs into whoever threw those barbs at him. Truly angry for the second time since leaving his island, his first blow is intended to kill.
If he happens to see an armed, unfortunate enemy walk, shoot, or run within his reach (10', AoO), Meranus will attempt to hook his horn around the enemy's weapon and pin it to the ground (Disarm, CMB = 21), taking the opportunity to roar into that enemy's face.
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 17 -- HP 11/11 d20+3=14 ; d20+5=22 ; d20+5=14 ; d8+1=5 ; Monday November 7th, 2011 10:54:58 PM
Toregan, while surprised that the darts were able to pierce his armor, manages to ignore the bite of the dart and the poison on it (Fort Save 14) , quickly nocks an arrow pointed directly at whoever just shot him, and fires. (Attack 14/ Damage 5) Pointing in the direction of the attackers, he calls out to Meranus. [b]"Meranus, they're over there! Everyone on guard!"[b]
Calling out and pointing in the Direction of where they are should give a circumstance bonus to Perception checks, so if you guys miss the check by a small margin, You might still make it.

Only two posts... going to wait until a few more people check in with their actions. I'll try and post again later tonight, but I have business to attend, so if not, the post will come tomorrow.
(Andrew) Henrix Sharpsword AC 16/12/10 -- CMD 11 -- HP 10/10 d20+5=18 ; d20+6=19 ; Tuesday November 8th, 2011 10:09:43 PM
Henrix and Heckle may or may not see the assailants, depending on Toregan's circumstance bonus, but their actions are straightforward either way. Heckle takes off and flies upwards; he will spend as many rounds as it takes to find a safe, high spot in the trees where he can remain out of danger and also perhaps get an eagle (raven) eye view of the situation. Henrix, meanwhile, noting the imminent danger mutters and waves a piece of cured leather, casting Mage Armor on himself. He then positions himself roughly in the middle of the party, as far as he can in all directions from any enemies.

(Perception: 11)
"By all that is holy above! I hate this cursed jungle." Leonan hefts up his shield in a defensive posture, taking a standard action for Total Defense and a move action to move in the direction Toregan is pointing.
"Keen-Eyes, where are they? Over here? This bush? Or in this tree? Come on, I can't see them! Damn this jungle, damn this heat, damn it all."
(AC is 25 this round)
(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 12 -- HP 8/8 d20+3=9 ; Wednesday November 9th, 2011 10:40:33 AM "Wah, huh?" Yngvar looks up from where he had been plodding along, one foot in front of the other, to see Meranus pulling darts from his arms, while Toregan fired an arrow into the jungle.
Yngvar stops suddenly, and reaches for a bolt to load into his crossbow, "What? Where?"

Meranus charges into the underbrush, but sees little more than the rustling of brush at what ever was there retreats.
After about 5 seconds the jungle is silent and there is no sign of any attackers.
Heckle flies in the air yet sees nothing.
Henrix, Yngvar, and Leonan look around flabbergasted.
