The scared minotaur looks up at the flying witch and and after squinting a bit answers, "Well, my friend and I are here for the 10,000 gold reward for returning a King to the Queen." His voice is a deep bass and it's raspy as well.

Looking down at Revi, "I didn't get him, we just travel together, 'cause we are friends. Don't insult him again with asking a price, I doubt he'll handle it very well."

He looks towards Snafu and huffs, refusing to answer the same question more than once.
Looking at Edmund, he adds nothing to what he's already said.

"Is each of ya gonna ask the same question? if so this is gonna get over very quickly, I only stopped to get some food for and then head off to where the King is."

Revi smiles, "Right friendly you are, aren't you. So you and he, or she, are together. Like together together, or just together? No, forget I asked, that's just, ya know, no, I don't really want to know, it would be too wierd--I've said too much. Well, welcome to Watchaven, don't cause no trouble and I won't have to punish you. Cheerio!" Revi says goodbye and walks away. "Together...pfft." Giggling she wonders how many other happy go luckly people they'll meet as time goes on.

"another one", Tishe' mumbles, and flies down to the others. "OK, they seem peaceful enough in town if a bit gruff. Let's get to the King ourselves and turn off this reward before we are positively flooded with bounty hunters."

Only stopping to allow the others to get a pack and any additional gear for a long trip, Tishe' leads the way back to the King's campsite. "Let's pick up some clues, packmates, anything to give us an advantage on where they may have gone."

Thar chuckles at all that's going on, but buries his head in his hands, sure that Revi's going to take this peaceful situation and potentially turns it into a brawl by intimating some sort of intimacy between the two bounty hungers... "I'm so going to hate this..." he finally mumbles...

If things seem peaceful, he'll say quitely to Edmund and Tishe', "I think we need to get checking on those tracks we found earlier and find the king before more of this circus shows up in our town..."

After a careful searching of the King's encampment area, there is not very much to go on. It seems as if they cleaned out their camp with a very careful eye for left behind items.
All that is found is a scrap of parchment with a couple landmarks, but no names, just some X's to mark a spot. (everyone make a Int roll DC 24 or Know: Local Dc 25, please)

While you are searching the encampment, your new friend with the elephant heads of towards the south-southeast and his wagon quickly disappears down the roadway.

No, not the sailor... must have been that barkeep fellow with the oddly shaped head? Or maybe it was Edmund... he has an oddly shaped head too. No! Not Edmund, but I'm positive. It simply must be.... Snafu looked up from the parchment with a wild look in his eyes, and then he told everyone what he remembered.

Thar slaps his head at the mention of sweetbread and says, "You're right Ed... I left them in the oven warming up and let me grab some for us to take on the road..." After bringing some out for everyone, he joins the search and after looking at the letter (Int = 17, Know (Local) = 23 (nat'l 20!)), tries to remember where he's seen that before...

PS - remind me for Pfinder... Does a natural 20 on a skill roll mean auto success or just a good, high number?

I would have to look to be sure Thar, but generally if you make a 20 and still don't make the DC of the check I usually assume that it is a success ( especially if no one else makes or can make the target number 8)) If you CAN make the DC and then roll a 20 usually I give a bit more information than a normal success would have granted due to the added insight you must have had on that subject. So in short, yes a 20 will succeed and usually give you extra info, at least from me. John's results may vary.

Tishe' looks over Snafu's shoulders eagerly. While she doesn't intuitively grasp the map's significance, her time spent looking at the maps of the Pitchfork Council pays off, and the witch eagerly shares what she knows withthe others.

"If ever we get completely lost, I also have a spell that will lead us directly to Bohamm, who should be very close to the King. Locate Person is a long spell, but effective since we know exactly what he looks like and I have a piece of his clothing from the bar fight."

With everyone comparing notes about the scrap of parchment, you conclude that the King and his people went towards the South, actually, 2 points west of south, but still south. The abandoned tower of Boydos lies to one side of the scrap paper and Witchspawn on the other, with the Culverwood to the south and the camp is marked inside the woods.

It seems the Minotaur was headed towards the eastern marker with the group of bounty hunters headed towards the western marker, maybe, just maybe you can get there ahead of them all.

If you are all ready to go, you head south then.

Now that they have a direction to follow, Thar takes the lead and begins scouting ahead of the party, going South, staying to the side of the roads, usually hidden in the brush or trees, looking for potential enemies, etc....

Having traveled in a mostly southerly direction for two days, you are approaching the Culverwood. As you crest a small hill ahead of you is a sight you'd hoped to not see again. Ahead is a group of the large people, at least 10 or 12 that you can see. The Leader is having a very pointed argument with a centaur. It consists of lots of gesticulations and very loud yelling at each other.
As you get closer you can hear that the argument is over whether the Centaur is a bounty hunter or not. The Taur is shouting against being a Bounty Hunter and the Large person is demanding that the Taur must be a Bounty Hunter, why else would he be here right now.

When the Large person sees the Group, he shouts out, "You, you're nothing but trouble"

The centaur who speaks is rather well built, even stout for a centaur. He has black hair and tail, with a buckskin coat on his lower body. His upper body is well tanned. He has a small pack and an exquisitely well crafted bow. His only other visible possessions are the arrows in his quiver on his back.

"Ah, more of your companions?" says Caedmon as the party approaches.

To Tishe' and Edmund, their nominal leaders, he says, "That big guy there... the leader... I recognize him as the leader of the original 3 that we met, those queen's men that we tangled with earlier... That centaur, I don't know much about him but he's seems to be a traveler..."

Edmund shrugs his shoulders, gesticulating with a bun in one hand.

"Another traveller? We have nothing but travellers now--and nothing but trouble with them. Best to leave him alone and let him sort himself out. Anyway, it's got to be nearly time for lunch! If we must talk to him, maybe we can do so elsewhere . . ."

As the approach the centaur and are addresed, Edmund says, "Companions? Whose companions? And in any case, why pick on this fellow, you lot," he says, now addressing the group. "There are bounty hunters popping in and out, and will be for some time, I suspect. You can't assault them all. So why not calm down and let this fellow pass. We'll handle it, no worries."

Edmund manages to be quite convincing, and smiles politely throughout.

The other large people mill around as the group closes on them, the leader just crosses his arms and begins to tap his foot in irritation. He gives the centaur a dirty look and frowns at him as if he wanted to do something else to him.
As Edmund speaks, you can see the anger in his face begin to rise and you can imagine the steam squirting from his ears. He holds up a hand (talk to the hand) and says something to the others in a language none of you recognize.

Having spent so much time at the monastery of Pantheon, he is not used to being introduced to so many people in such a short time. Still, wearing the grey mantle of justice necessitates at times that he puts his own discomforts aside.

The big man from before looks directly at Edmund after he had made his appeal.
"So, we should all just let you and your group handle all of this? Well, since you want to take our job away from us, and are willing to do so as nonchalantly as you seem to be doing, I guess we'll just have to tuck our tails between our legs and head home in defeat.
Actually, that's not gonna happen, at least not while I'm leading the Queens guard. Get 'em boys!!"

The entire group of large people all attack.

The Leader, Dwellen attacks the Centaur, since that is whom he is closest to He attacks with the scimitar he drew, striking at Caedmon. Both of his attacks miss the centaur.

Beleah, the female from the first fight, strikes at Revi with a dagger, rather than with a scimitar. Both of her attacks also miss their target.

#3 Attacks Thar twice. The first attack hits (17 damage) the second just misses him.

#4 attacks Ramen twice. The first swing comes in low and misses him because Buttercup took a sudden step. The second tho hits like a brick out house. (Crit, confirmed 10 damage)

#5 Casts a spell on himself, his skin becoming stone like.

#6 does the same.

#7 Sinks into the ground.

#8 also sinks into the ground.

#9 attacks Caedmon twice, missing both times.

#10 attacks Snafu twice, missing him.

#11 casts a spell, turning his skin stone like.

Tishe' has the sniffles, trying to get over a pesky virus and isn't paying as much attention as she should. the witch sees the usual loss of patience in Dwellen and the other guards all attack. "They are guards of the Queen, and seem to resent us freeing the Kin as much as they hate bounty hunters." She knows she just stated the obvious, but there is little else she is able to do.

((The NPC must have a truly feeble INT score if he can somehow get a meaning of 'we'll handle the bounty hunting' out of what Edmund said, when "This Fellow" clearly refers to Caedmon, whom they will not let pass.))

Edmund is completely surprised for the second time in as many days. "What are you on about?" he says, as the big man delivers a declaration which is entirely disconnected from reality, before they start raining blows down upon his friends.

"We have no interest in your stupid bounty!" Edmund shouts at the imbecile; adding, "We just want you to stop harassing people in the town! But, I suppose, an end to your activity can be found this way, too!"

Edmund twists to his right, uttering some sort of unintelligible gibberish. With a flick of his wrist, there is a deafening roar as a bolt of chain lightning sails out and towards Enemy #4. It then proceeds to arc through every single visible enemy, leaving the noxious smell of ozone in its wake.

Chain Lightning: 49 Damage. DC 25 Reflex save for half damage.

With that, Edmund moves swiftly to the rear of the combat, 30 feet east (to Z-21).

"Alright, Revi," he says. "Looks like it is your lucky day."

Thar's really angry now and just like his friend Edmund, steam's literally coming out of his ears...

Deciding to crush these bugs now and for all, he'll take a 5' step back to T18 avoid an AoO ...

and using his rod of metamagic/empowering, casts Flame Strike, calling a huge blast of fire and divine magic upon the scum... centering it at S14, and with a 10' radius (if I read the map and spell correctly), it'll hit 3, 4 and 5...

Flame Strike = Does 36 pts * 1.5 (from rod) = 54 pts of dmg, 27 of which is fire and 27 is divine. (Reflex DC 22 for 1/2 dmg)

Snafu managed to dodge and then parry the two attacks aimed at him. He then sprang off his front paws and lept in a backwards flip in effort to put a little distance between himself and his attacker.

Once out of melee range he uttered words of magic and disappeared.

Tishe` hops on her broom and gains some elevation (20' up)
Thar takes a step backwards, then calls upon his divine power to rain down holy fire upon his enemies.
Caedmon tucks his head down and maneuvers past Dwellen and pulls out his bow.
Edmund comments about the spell Thar just used.
Revi attacks Dwellen, hitting him solidly. (adjacent i take to mean the enemies are next to each other, not next to you, because it works with reach weapons as well, not just up close at 5')
Ramen issued a challenge and readies himself for combat.
Snafu tumbles backwards (what a funny sight for a liontaur) and then makes himself invisible.

OOC: Rolls had the wrong modifiers the first time. Rerolled with the appropriate modifiers. Also forgot to roll attacks twice. Would have made things very confusing. Factoring in Deadly Aim, Point Blank Shot, etc. this time.

Revi winds up the Ginsu blade and hews into #6 hitting 2 times, blood sprays all around her and hew big sword makes arcs in between the hits.
Thar moves a few feet, and succeeds in summoning an elemental. (casting time is a full round, Ernie gets to act this round)
Ramen attacks #5 hitting 1 time, leaving a mark on the large person's arm.
Caedmon calmly brings up her bow and unleashes a torrent of arrows at the large person, 3 of those arrows hits and he drops to the ground, unmoving.
Tishe` waits until one of the large people emerges from the ground. That is #9 as he surfaces near Revi. He promptly fails his save and re-submerges (next round).
Snafu charges and attacks #9, hitting him 4 times.

OOC: I assume the percentage roll is due to invisibility. If so, rolled 2%, so that's a miss.

IC:
The invisible Snafu dodged a few blows, but realized that his luck would soon run out if he remained completely surrounded.

"Got to get out of here" Snafu thought has he attemtped to spring past the stoned looking Dwellen. Once out of harm's way, he would spin around and unleash a fireball where he stood only seconds before.

What Happened JC? I hope you are ok.

DM JC: I have a few broken teeth, and due to being on disability, I can't afford to get them removed. Yesterday was the worst they've ever acted up. I managed to get some anbasol, but now the right side of my face from cheek to chin is swollen. I must be allergic to something in it, I know I'm allergic to Novocain and I swell up the same way....

Revi being frustrated at her target vanishing from her range, turns and cuts #9. First one arm is lopped off, and then she sinks her sword into #9's chest. She's fairly certain that he's dead as the parts fall to the ground.

Edmund goes invisible, and then moves higher and to the west.

Thar moves a short distance again, and unleashes a holy smite upon the large people. His spell does less than he expected it to do on all of the targets, and even less on two of them. (not evil, 1/2 damage, save = 1/4 damage)
Ernie, pummels #3, causing him to slump to the ground, unmoving.

Snafu manages to get out of the circle of big people, launching a fireball where he was just standing, causing a little damage to Dwellen and one of the large people, the last target seemed to take it in the face and collapses to the ground.

Caedmon turns around and proceeds to shoot Beleah at point blank range, hitting with the entire complement of arrows. With 5 arrows sticking out of her, she slumps to the ground just like the last target, with arrows sticking up into the air.

Ramen feels the spell from Thar wash over him, doing nothing to him, proceeds to attack #5, after a series of hits, #5 also slumps to the ground, joining the others.

Dwellen casts a spell at the area around Snafu (glitterdust DC 15 to save vs blind), as soon as he finished casting the glitterdust at Snafu, points towards Caedmon and casts Wall of Stone, causing it to rise 10 feet tall in a straight line.
Dwellen then sinks into the ground.

#4 takes a step backwards, (5') and casts a wall of stone, and surrounds Thar, Ramen and Ernie, the wall is 10' tall.

#6 surfaces on the west side of Revi, as he rises from the ground, he reaches out and touches Revi's sword (touch AC used) and she looks on in horror as the weapon turns to liquid and pools on the ground at her feet. (turned to Mercury)

#8 attacks Revi with his Scimitar, he hits with one swing. 14 damage

#10 charges up to Snafu, and grabs a hold of him, grappling him.

As the mercury drips from her hands, she commands the sword to transform into a glaive (sword has transformative power).


Isn't this something like a disarm attack, although the weapon itself is turned to mercury, wouldn't it get a save?

Also, if you do not have the Improved Disarm feat, or a similar ability, attempting to disarm a foe provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver. Attempting to disarm a foe while unarmed imposes a --4 penalty on the attack.

I'll post my further actions depending on whether or not the transform works

1) Usual actions on a spell that can be cast on objects; they "receive saving throws only if they are magical or if they are attended (held, worn, grasped, or the like) by a creature resisting the spell, in which case the object uses the creature's saving throw bonus unless its own bonus is greater. This notation does not mean that a spell can be cast only on objects. Some spells of this sort can be cast on creatures or objects. A magic item's saving throw bonuses are each equal to 2 + 1/2 the item's caster level."

2) Further, the Shaitan's Metalmorph power is supernatural. ie " Supernatural Abilities (Su): Supernatural abilities are magical but not spell-like. Tishe' sees Snafu get grabbed and realizes the liontaur may be in trouble. Looking around, the others including the new centaur seem to be holding thier own just fine, and so the witch keeps circling the battlefield and concentrates on helping Snafu.

Tishe' considers carefully and then casts Quickened Doom on attacker #10, making him more susceptible to attacks,

And then she follows up with a Charm Monster, calling down "release my friend, you don't want to fight with him!"

And then, still keeping watch above the battlefield, she prepares to counter Dwellen's first spell he tries to cast.

DM: no, it may be a glaive, but it's still a puddle of mercury, then as soon as it's no longer on "possession" it reverts back to a sword. (that is it's natural form, correct?)

Thar sneers at the wall of stone, and Ernie glides through it without resistance (Earth Glide ability, lets him go through stone as easily as fish through water)...

Meanwhile, Thar looks up the wall and throws his grappling hook and rope up the side (Standard Action?) and climbs up to the top of the wall at U18... (Move Action) (can climb at 1/4 speed, his speed is ~ 8 feet?

(DM - How wide is the top of the wall? My plan is to have him sit on the top and take potshots with his bow and arrow... If it's 5' wide, he should be able to brace himself and fire away...)

Snafu knew he was in a bit of trouble when he felt powerful arms wrap around him. He responded quickly by dropping low and moving himself towards his larger opponent, until he had passed directly beneath his legs.

Once free Snafu planned to dart out of the creatures grasp and then turn to see if Tishe's spell had worked. If it failed he would respond with a spell of his own.

Revi watches as her sword just runs through her fingers, being on the edge of rage she grabs a spear out of her quiver and brings it down in a 2 handed jab at #6, killing him....

Thar flips a grapple to the top of the 10' tall wall, and when he reaches the top, he finds it only about 2" thick.

Ernie walks through the wall and attacks #4

Tishe` casts a combination of spells, the doom seems to take effect, but the charm monster fails.

Caedmon gallops around the corner of the wall, drawing an arrow while he's moving, he lets it fly and hits #4.

Ramen grabs the front hem of his cloak, and after vanishing into it, he reappears out side of the walled in area.

Snafu manages to break free of the grapple and moves further away from the big person.

Thar climbed over the wall, and dropped to the ground safely.

Edmund moves over towards Thar, and then casting a spell, causing him to become invisible.

(DM - Do the enemies fists count as MW's? Ernie has a 5/- DR and I didn't know if their weapons bypassed it or not... I assumed they didn't but if so, I need to take 10 more points from Ernie)

Ernie's rocked by blows from both enemies, and takes 37 pts of dmg as chunks of earth and stone are knocked off him... However, he stands tall and hits #4 with both his fists...

"Now might be a good time to give up" Snafu said. "Either that or make peace with your Gods cause you'll be joining them in a few seconds."

As arrows and blades, spears and spells drop the various opponents that are still fighting, it leaves only Dwellen as a going concern. It is only a few moments before he, or should I say they reappear.
There are now currently 7 Dwellens standing in a group and they are all looking around, at the bodies laying all over the battle field, his subordinates each of then sworn to follow him....
He clutches the medallion around his neck, it's a crescent moon over crossed scimitars, and begins speaking rapidly in Terran. If you speak Terran Highlight to display spoiler: { "My Queen hear my last words, we have been defeated in fair combat, we can not complete your wishes. All I was, all I am and all I was meant to be is yours. Do with it as you will, your faithful servant until my next lifetime ...."}
After his short speech in Terran, the symbol glows brightly, and a flat circular area that looks almost like a mirror surrounded by a ring of pure unfocused magical power appears not far from him, and as it does so, the life force of Dwellen seems to evaporate and his body slumps to the ground, all 7 of them mimic the motions, until the energy seems gone, then the 6 mirror images fade away, leaving his body splayed out, unmoving in front of this, for lack of words, mirror hovering just above the ground.

Thar lowers his bow as the last enemy falls... He hears Dwellen mutter something in a language he doesn't understand... and then watches the images fade away but a hovering mirror remain...

He looks at the mirror with curiousity, and tries to see if he remembers what it might mean... (Know Rel? = 12 Know Arc? = 25)..

He'll also move quickly to the body and search it... Perc = 32

Tishe' can't understand Dwellen, but she knows what the dissipation of the Mirror Image spell means; the Outsider must have killed himself.

She reaches into her memory to see if whe recognizes the magic item hovering in the air. "It could be a trap, be careful!", she calls to her packmates.

"Edmund, Snafu, see if you can safely check out the 'mirror'."

"Ramen, Thar, Revi, can you speak with the centaur and see if we can exchange useful information. He is obviously NOT of the Queen's camp, and looks like a black handed Walker to me."

Tishe' herself lands her broom 10 feet from the mirror and stows her Broom in her magical quiver. Any information she gleens from her memory, the witch calls out to her packmates.

Upon looking into the Mirror, there can be seen a throne room, a woman sitting on the throne and 15 or 20 more people standing about further back from the Queen, or at least who appears to be the queen.

The Queen looks through the mirror, and sees the results of the recent combat.

"Those who conquer the Altair shall take their place. Long live the Altair!"

The phrase is echoed by the other people behind the Queen, the boisterousness of the echo seems as if there are many more than the 15 to 20 which can be seen.

The Queens hand reaches forward and then extends out through the mirror looking portal? there is a red ring on each of it's fingers, and there is a finger for each of the party, even the centaur as well as those whom are invisible.
"Accept the good fortune that fate has brought upon you. Take my ring. Bring my husband back to me so I can deal with him for once and for all!
You will be richly rewarded! Richly!"

"I used to play cards with a guy that only spoke Terran" Snafu explained. "I'm not 100% sure, but I think our disappearing friend just said- I have to go to the bathroom".

After Snafu gave his best translation, he focused his attention on the mirror. He started by scanning it for magic, which he was certain he'd detect. More importantly, he wanted to know the strength of those auras.

Assuming the auras weren't too powerful, Snafu moved in to take a closer look.

-->Give bad translation
-->Cast detect magic and study the area; especially the mirror.
-->Assuming the item doesn't have a strong aura, Snafu will move in to investigate

DM: there is a extremely power aura of conjuration magic, it appears to be a portal of some sort.
