Scene 5: Victorious

DM Zach
Friday December 30th, 2011 11:48:59 PM

With the help of Keela, and Zeph, Sjurd is able to get his hands on a few prime specimens of belladonna, blue whinnis, hemlock, , malyass root, striped toadstool, and wolfsbane to be transplanted into the alchemic garden when it is finished.

Garrett has had plenty of time to spend with Tara, should he have chosen to do so.

Dibs manages to stay out of trouble for the few months that pass.

Crafting is done when there is time but it hasn't been rushed.

Keela has had plenty of time to spend with her family. The suitors have slacked off a bit, but Jack Youngblood, the hearty and ruggedly handsome human miner and Sergio Dade, the charismatic and beautiful half-elf minstrel. Both have stopped by several times trying to win her heart.

Ulfgar calls all of the town and the heroes to the construction site of the Inn. It looks surprisingly complete. It is three stories and looks rather sturdy. He stands in front of a large canvas structure that is about 20 feet in front of the entrance.

Champions of Bryn Baraz, those that you defend, salute you! As the Dwarf's voice carries across the crowd, his hand yanks the canvas down. Where the canvas was is a large Mithril statue with Koko on the far left and Garrett on the far right. Keela is on the middle left, with Zeph on the middle right. All are in a calm, confident pose that captures their presence perfectly. Above them is a magnificent eagle in a noble pose. His wings are spread out behind and slightly over the Champions.

A large cheer erupts from all of the citizens, no longer settlers or refugees. After the cheering dies down Nagegy and Ulfgar presents a ring to each of the three remaining Heroes. "These will transport you and any two willing allies back here when ever needed. All you have to do is say, 'There is no place like Bryn Baraz'"

After congratulations and plenty of hand-shakes, the Champions and company are given the grand tour of the Inn and their new home. The first floor is huge kitchen, public dining, and a large private banquet hall. The second floor is full of rooms ranging form very small to nice enough for nobility. The upper level is reserved for the Champions. There are 8 rooms, private common area, a very nice kitchen, a large well stocked library, and a small alchemical lab with a very small greenhouse out on one balcony. Behind the Inn is a rather large vegetable garden.

So what do you think? What will you call it? the Dwarf asks.

Sjurd speaks up when the dwarf asks for a name. "Since Bryn Baraz vas founded for the mithril lying below her in the earth, it is fitting that the name should reflect this. The vord 'mithril' comes from Elven tongues. Mith, meaning "grey" or "mist", und ril meaning "glitter". I propose ve name this building, "Greyglitter Hall."

ooc: Had some time on my hands and made a map of the proposed building. You can view it here. I can always change the name later if the group decides on something else.

Keela
Sunday January 1st, 2012 7:54:02 PM

Keela enjoys her family, and is confusedly pleased to be courted. She likes both young men. Jack Youngblood is everything she was taught to admire in her upbringing: hardworking, capable, salt-of-the-earth. And handsome, too, which certainly doesn't hurt. On the other hand, Sergio Dade represents many of the things she has come to appreciate in the years since: intelligence, curiosity, arcane knowledge, experience of the world. And he, too, is easy on the eyes.

She has to adjust her thinking though, because she's thought of herself as an old maid all these years. "I'm twenty-five, you know," she blurts to Jack at one point.

The unveiling of the statue is every bit as embarrassing as she'd feared. She looks up into the cold, glittering facsimile of her own face and shudders a little. Hopefully, the thing won't actually frighten small children, though she wouldn't be surprised if it did.

She finds the inn enchanting, and exclaims over every detail. "I still like Victory Inn," she says of the name, "but we can go with Greyglitter instead, if that's what everyone prefers."

"Very impressive dwarven engineering" Dibs stated during the tour. Along the way he praised several architectural features- "Ohhh, a flying butress... very nice" and "you certainly didn't cut any corners with your material selections" and "very nice coping joints with the moulding... I am impressed."

Being the new guy Dibs took whatever room was offerred to him and was quick to test out his bed. "Yes, yes, I could get use to this."

OOC- Nice drawing... what program do you use? I use Dungeon Crafter, but yours looks better. P.S. Are you going to make the private floor? I assume that would be floor #3.

Sjurd [HP:88/88 AC:18/15/18]
Monday January 2nd, 2012 9:36:36 AM

ooc: I use MapTool, available as a free download from www.rptools.net. I'm pretty sure the building only has two floors. Zach's description read, "The first floor is huge kitchen, public dining, and a large private banquet hall. The second floor is full of rooms ranging form very small to nice enough for nobility. The upper level is reserved for the Champions." I think he mean the second floor is reserved, not that there is an upper level above the second.

Hey Uncharted!

Did you know that your mighty DMs have real lives? Well they do. Especially during the holidays. Zach and Ben have been working very hard on your next module, however, it is not quite done yet. My guess is that it will be at least Wed. before we're off to the next adventure again.

Zach's been out of town with no internet access. Ben has just started with us, but has been working hard on the module nonetheless.

I want them spending all their time on the module instead of posting filler for you guys. That 30 min or filler posting could be better used getting your next module finished up. So there will be no DM posts until they are finished with the module. Most of you are veteran Woldians and can definitely entertain yourselves in character for a few more days. So, keep it lively in there and have some fun. Feel free to make a post for an NPC if you wish as well.

Zach and Ben will be back with you as soon as they possibly can with a new module approved by me and ready to go.

[sent via email as well]

OOC: Yes, there is a third level.

"I have a spell that should help you" he promised. "It will make your thumbs feel like fingers!"

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:29/29/23 HP:66/66 Ki:10/10]
Tuesday January 3rd, 2012 2:32:01 PM

Garret wanders around for a few days as the group settles in for a stay. He looks on with interest as Sigurd, Zeph, and Keela prepare the rather poisonous plants for the "garden." He shares Keela's distress about the safety of the plants. He works with the dwarves to ensure that the poisonous garden is well-enclosed and safely shut off from the outside so that no one will wander in by accident. He suggests a large stone wall with solid gates, perhaps even with a magical password or entry point.

Those who are observant might notice that when Garret is seen, he is often in the company of Tara. Anyone who looks closely can see that the two are quite smitten with one another.

When the inn is complete, Garret nods to Keela and agrees, "I tend to favor Victory Inn as well. It is plain, but simple, and I think that fits." He turns to Ulfgar and bows deeply. "Thank you so much, skilled artisan. This is a work of art, and your part in it shall not soon be forgotten."

As the statues are unveiled, Garret looks closely at the status of himself. He checks the height of the status and compares it to himself. He smiles to the crowd and winks as he bows to them as well, "Thank you good people of Bryn Baraz. We are humbled by your great honor. We do not deserve this, but simply did what needed to be done to ensure the safety of good people. I hope that you will not soon forget these times and remain ever vigilant so that this town never falls into the hands of evil again."

Garret takes Tara by the hand as they are given the grand tour of Victory Inn. He smiles as the place looks just as he had imagined. When they get to the third floor, Garret looks over the rooms. When no one else says anything at first, Garret quickly claims a room that has a view looking out the front of the inn, "I claim this as my room, should no one else object." He enters the room and starts moving things around so that they are just as he likes them. He asks Tara her opinion of the layout of the room as he moves the items around.

Once they are settled, he looks out the window across the town. He watches the people walking about and looks towards the mines. He sits down on the bed and gestures for Tara to have a seat. He looks out the window as he says to her, "My life is that of an adventurer. As much as I would like to stay here, I know that I will feel that call to adventure soon. I know that my good friend Zeph has visions and has a strong purpose of revenge. I know that soon he will be needed somewhere else. Sigurd, too, has strong visions that guide him and his direction. These are my friends and I know that they shall need me in their journeys." He touches the ring that was given to each of the adventurers and continues, "With this magic, I know that I can always return here, and I hope that I can return soon and return often." He looks up at Tara saying, "I would like nothing more than to stay here with you, but I know that I cannot. I hope you can understand that. I could not dream of asking you to wait for my return, because I know that the next battle I enter may be my last. But should I be able to return, I will always return for you, to this place."

Tara looks down at her feet as the silence fills the room. Garret is unsure of what to say next, his usual adventurer confidence stalling on him. In a quiet voice, Tara replies, "I will wait for you for as long as you desire. I know that some adventurers are known for their many romances in many towns, but I hope that is not the case with you. I will wait until your adventures are done and hope for the day that you will return here to stay with me."

The two of them embrace and hold one another tightly for a long time. Finally Garret breaks the embrace and smiles, "You know, you could stay here in this room while I am gone, if nothing else, just to keep it lived in." Tara pokes him in the ribs and says, "You just want someone to keep it clean so when you get back you don't have to clean it." The two of them laugh together as they both ponder where Garret will wander next.

ooc: *slaps forehead* Alright, so are the second and third levels all bedrooms? But the third is just reserved for us?

Not DM Zach
Tuesday January 3rd, 2012 5:43:34 PM

Ok, not sure if I am supposed to do this, but this is most definitely NOT a DM Post. That and the module is turned in awaiting first feedback at the moment.

"The first floor is huge kitchen, public dining, and a large private banquet hall. The second floor is full of rooms ranging form very small to nice enough for nobility. The upper level is reserved for the Champions. There are 8 rooms, private common area, a very nice kitchen, a large well stocked library, and a small alchemical lab with a very small greenhouse out on one balcony. Behind the Inn is a rather large vegetable garden."

First Floor: Huge Kitchen, public dining, bar, and large private banquet hall.
Second Floor: Inn rooms for the public. Nothing but bedrooms.
Third Floor: Champions Floor: 8 Bedrooms, private common area with fireplace, nice private kitchen, large well stocked library, small alchemical lab with very small greenhouse out on one balcony.

Again this is NOT DM Post and is little more than a summation.

Posting time 2 minutes.

ooc: I will take another crack at the map this evening. How are the magical crafting plans coming along?

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:29/29/23 HP:66/66 Ki:10/10]
Wednesday January 4th, 2012 6:35:11 PM

Garret walks out into the common room where Zeph has set up an area for crafting various magical items. He spots Keela and Sjurd working as well. Tara follows behind him. He says, "You have created a nice setup here, I must say. What is it, again, that we're making?" He holds out his ring or protection and says, "I would certainly be much indebted should one of you find a way to make this stronger. And I suppose I might get hit a little less often." He winks to Tara at this last statement. He gestures towards his headband and continues, "And a little more power out of this thing would be great, too, if I'm not asking too much" (Headband of Wisdom +1).

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:29/29/23 HP:66/66 Ki:10/10]
Thursday January 5th, 2012 12:11:41 PM

Garret wanders the streets of the town, looking around at the repairs that are being made. He sees places where walls are down where many people are working, wide-eyed, at fixing and rebuilding their homes. He stops and helps out each chance that he gets so that he can stay busy and help out around the town.

In the mornings, he often spends time alone, walking the old trails up above the town. He looks out over the nearby plains and thinks back to the first time he approached the town with Zeph, not having any idea what they were getting into. He practices his martial arts as the sun rises and some days Tara appears, having followed him to see where he was going.

On occasion he heads out to the mines to check on the progress there. There was little damage there from the battle, but he knows that the depths of the mines may hold some dark and dangerous secrets. He remembers some of the strange creatures the encountered in the far entrances to the mines and worries about the safety of the miners. He tries to check out where they are clearing and warns them to let him know if they break through a place and find older, deeper passages. He looks forward to exploring them and defeating monsters there so that he can declare the passage clear for more mining.

Keela
Thursday January 5th, 2012 12:33:08 PM

Keela does not craft, so after exclaiming over the completeness of the alchemy room, she stays away and lets the crafters do their work.

Instead, she spends time in the kitchen, humming to herself as she happily bakes bread, rolls, pies, cakes, and other goodies. Many of them are destined for hampers to be given to Jack or Sergio, but plenty of treats get left around for her adventuring companions.

ooc: Ladies and gentlemen, The Victory Inn. I placed the "secret garden" on the third floor with a detached balcony so that no one (short of cat burglars) could ever get near it. The second and third floors are identical, save for the alchemy lab and garden on the third floor. Thoughts?

Happy with what you guys are doing. We are down to the final stretch on the module. We just have to fill in a few more logistics and make a map and we are done. I see no reason to not get started come Monday at latest.

Good RPing guys, keep it up.

I better go before I get in trouble.

DM Zach -- Back in Action

The Champions of Bryn Baraz get settled into the newly christened Victory Inn.

Keela's suitors are both wonderful men in totally different ways. Sergio offers tons of compliments and even writes and sings a song for her. Jack laughs when Keela mentions she is 25. "You know I'm older than that, right?" When the statue is unveiled he let's out a low whistle. "That's a mighty fine statue, but it doesn't even come close to doing justice to your beauty." Keela spends quite a bit of time baking goods for her suitors and companions. She finds that she is actually quite good at the task.

Keela gains 2 skill points to be placed in Profession: Baker or Profession: Gardener

Dibs spent time with Ulfgar as the Inn was going up and learned quite a bit from him and those working with him. The old Dwarf found that he truly enjoyed the company of the halfling, and taught Dibs quite a bit about engineering.

Dibs gains 2 skill points to be placed in Profession: Engineer or 1 skill point to be placed in Knowledge: Architecture and Engineering (Jeff's choice).

Garrett spends nearly every moment with Tara. During this time he learns quite a bit about First Aid. The two have become quite inseparable. She happily agrees to move in with Garrett. At the mention of him being an adventurer, she seems rather confident in you abilities and knows you will come back to her.

Garrett gains 1 skill point to be placed in the Heal skill.

Zeph and Sjurd spend a good bit of time gathering plants for the recreational garden, not to be confused with the vegetable garden that Keela likes to tend to. Both have become better at dealing with such plants.

Zeph and Sjurd have the option of either +1 Skill point in Craft: Alchemy or +2 Skill points in Profession: Herbalist.

Fen enters the tavern and offers to buy all of the Heroes a round of drinks. "This is the happiest the town has been in... ever. A round for the Champions of Bryn Baraz!

OOC: Ok guys, module is complete and things are going to kick off on Monday. We were supposed to have a new player but as of yet he has not responded to emails. Finish any role playing you want and have your catacomb purchases finished up over the weekend.

Garret Goodbarrel [AC:29/29/23 HP:66/66 Ki:10/10]
Friday January 6th, 2012 7:47:11 PM

Garret continues to work with the townspeople each day. He tries to make friends with them, but doesn't try to get too close. He tries to help out each person he sees, but he also tries to show them how they can help themselves so the adventuring group won't be called back to aid them any time soon. He saddens when he thinks about what would could happen to all the people, especially the women and children, should this town come under attack again. He tries not too many any close friends or connections, but he simply cannot avoid it with Tara.

"I'm thinking about staying here." says Garret. Tara looked at him, questioningly. He continues, "You know, when the others move on. You know the call to adventure is going to get them. They're going to move on. I was thinking, maybe I should stay here."

Tara jumped to her feet and put her hands on her hips. She spoke very sternly, "Garret, you know that you need to go with them. You know you will not be happy here. You're an adventurer, and you need to go adventure."

Garret looked up from his seat on the bed and looked Tara in the eyes, "Are you sure that's what you want?"

Tara continued, while pacing, "You know good and well that's what you want and what you need. It's what you do. I knew that when I met you. Once I would have tried to make you stay here to be with me because, well, I like being with you. But we're not kids. I know that if I make you stay that you'll be miserable and you'll end up blaming me for ruining your life! I've seen that happen! So as much as I want you to stay, I know you need to go. I'll miss you while you're gone, but I'll wait here until you return."

Garret stood up and held her close, "I'm glad to hear you say that. You will be on my mind the entire time I'm gone. And I've got this magical ring, so I know I'll return. I don't know when, but if you promise to wait, I promise to return."

They held each other extra tightly that afternoon, somehow sensing that their time together was soon to end...

Zeph is delighted at Sjurd's garden and takes great pleasure in assisting him in the collection and establishment of all the necessary herbs to make poisons and potions. (Craft = 16)

When the Blood Witch tells him of the Blue Whinnis Poison, Zeph gets excited at all the possible applications... silencing of evil necromancers via poisoned crossbow bolt, a simple application to his blade to add a little extra stopping power in combat.

When the group sits down to eat, Zeph smiles at Garret's happiness and says to his friend, "You know, love is a difficult thing to find in this world."

When Fen offers a drink, it is gladly accepted, and he laughs at Ulfgar and Nagegy's teleportation rings, "There's no place like Bryn Baraz eh? I certainly hope Mithril Manor can stand us not being here for a time."

Zeph also asks to help Keela bake, as he has never been a good cook himself and is eager to learn.

(Perception Check = 20)

(OOC: So for crafting and new equipment. We haven't set in stone how money will be distributed, so I will go ahead and update Zeph's gear with about 60k worth of new stuff crafted with Sjurd or otherwise bought, if that's ok with Zach. We shouldn't let the rest go to waste though, so lets put our minds together on how it can best be spent for our party. Keela... need any more metamagic rods? Or spells?)
