The Raptor hops a couple times as Toregan falls and seems to squeel with delight. that is until it sees the other raptor collapse after Leonan pulls his sword from its crumpling body. The Raptor hisses violently at Leonan, turns and withdraws to the west. Vaulting the 5 foot steam by nearly 15' more is quickly dissappears into the jungle.
Artius continues scareaming and falls onto the raptor severing the animals head with the axe in his hand.

The Cthonia Jungle Raptor Attack - over? (DM RobC) Monday January 9th, 2012 9:03:12 PM
One raptor seems to have made a successful escape, and can no longer be seen. A small trail of blood heads off to the west - the same direction as the raptor - and could be followed easily enough by those trained in such things.
Meranus and Henrix go to their fallen comrades side, plying him with the remaining healing salve. Toregan will live to fight again it seems. Tel and Yngvar stay alert for further trouble.
Artius still looks about frantically, both hands now gripping the axe tightly. Leonan shakes droplets of blood from his sword and readies himself for more battle.
Noises in the undergrowth ahead draw the parties attention, as you see a young human man come running down the path from the north towards the party - shield in one hand, warhammer in the other. The elf positions himself behind Leonan for protection.

Toregan keeps his bow out and looks at the path of blood, letting the others do the talking. "Meranus must've done a good deal of damage to it. We could still hunt it down." Looking down at his wound ridden body he decides that they aren't in a good position to hunt this creature down. Instead he goes over to the corpse of the raptor that was felled, takes out his dagger and begins to cut away at the beast's hide. No sense in leaving good leather and meat behind.
DM's judgement on this one. What check should I make to skin and butcher a good portion of the raptor?
Description: Toregan is a human of a fair height and fair build. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and tan skin with a full scraggly beard. As way of thanks, he dips his head briefly. Otherwise, he remains motionless, expressionless, and pensive. Inwardly, he is fascinated. Three "guides" thus far have failed to properly transport groups of mercenaries to their intended location, which is by admission of our great host dangerous and in need of our defense, and whose very existence hangs on the word of a strange businessman... what have we gotten ourselves into? More importantly, how do we get ourselves out? Is this "trading post" really- ah, well, if all the "guides" used the same transportation magic, perhaps its creator sabotaged it or failed to properly draw the runes... The Cthonia Jungle Raptor Attack - Meetings & Meat (DM RobC) Tuesday January 10th, 2012 8:53:18 PM Toregan prepares to attack, but quickly notices the mark of Domi - guardian and protector - and lowers his weapon, calling for others to do the same. Yngvar is quite the sight - his gear having seen better (and cleaner) days Leonan watches on in silence. Unneccessary noise may only attract further danger.
The man reveals himself to be Rexxan, a fellow traveller whose guides have recently been devoured by dinosaurs. Despite the attitude shown to him by Meranus, Rexxan does his best to heal the wounded party. Atrius and the elf both seem noticeably better.
The elf watches as Toregan goes to skin the raptor. "Please. Allow me" The elf takes the knife from Toregan and deftly goes to work skinning the raptor, cutting out some of its teeth, removing its claws and finally cutting what little meat he can from the animal. "It's not just the hide that has value on these creatures" he explains as he works "Most of these things can be traded". Finally two small piles remain - a pile of unusable remains, the other a neatly stacked pile of bloodied parts. "Do you have anything to put them in?". (48gp worth of raptor parts were recovered)
Henrix is curious as to why Heckle didn't alert him to the approaching man. His curiousity is felt by his familiar who descends and lands on a nearby branch. "I was just having a look over the tree tops. I can either fly below the trees and see if anything is nearby, or up high and see what's further away. I can't do both." the raven says with a hint of exasperation to his genius master "If it helps, I didn't notice anything nearby, and while I was up there I did see that big rock we're all heading towards. Looks like we'll reach it easily before it gets dark" The raven swoops down next to the raptor carcass and takes a few hops closer "Is anyone going to eat this?" he asks hopefully, looking to his master.

Leonan watches Heckle do what dark birds of that ilk do with corpses. Except Heckle can talk and is apparently a wizard's best magical buddy. It's kind of creepy. With that sharp pointy beak and those claws. Hey, in fact, there are a lot of similarities between those dinosaur monsters and a bird. Nah, its probably nothing.
Leonan also offers a slight, almost unnoticeable smile to Rexxan. He was raised to respect men of the faith (more than mercenaries like himself anyway, but that's an entirely different tale of self-loathing). For a moment, Leonan speculates that Rexxan's arrival at this time and place was arranged by Domi as a blessing -- but that thought quickly fades when he realizes that would mean that Domi was also responsible for getting Rexxan's guides eaten by dinosaurs and that doesn't seem a very favorably sort of thing to think about a god you were raised to honor.
Leonan peels his attention away from the new travel companion and back to the Elf, for whom he feels personally responsible. He moves to the Elf's side and wordlessly takes his position as the wounded hunter's (?) bodyguard -- for now anyway.
The Cthonia Jungle Raptor Attack - Decision Time (DM RobC) Wednesday January 11th, 2012 9:58:45 PM

Rexxan is anxious for a fight against the dinosaurs and suggests the party use the raptor blood for bait. Toregan seems inclined to make for the Trading Post sooner rather than later. A view shared by Meranus Leonan stays his silent self. Studying and assessing the party, and considering other implications.
What will the party be doing next? You suppose it is around noon - though it is hard to tell in such a dense jungle. Will the party try their luck with another fight, make their way to the outpost, or something else entirely?

The party continue their travel in a north westerly direction that soon becomes straight west. Heckle seems confident that is the direction the party should be heading and Henrix begins to feel a growing sense of curiosity from his companion the closer the party get to their destination. Though you hear noises from nearby bushes and calls simililar to that made of the raptor earlier, no more creatures are seen. By early afternoon the party finally emerges from the dense jungle.
This is the location where the Trading Post is supposed to be, however instead of a welcoming village full of star-struck maidens, you find yourselves staring up at the edge of a mountain. The sides of the mountain appear very steep - almost vertical in fact. The red and orange rocks contrast with the green jungle. It's amazing how close the jungle is to the mountain face. Henrix snaps out of his reverie and beckons Heckle to his shoulder, thanking him for his dutiful report. He whispers to Heckle for a moment, informing the bird that he would prefer for him to stay within his sight and therefore underneath the canopy. Heckle then chows down on raptor eyeball while Henrix pointedly keeps his gaze away from the spectacle.
On his way back up to the trees, Heckle swoops low over Meranus, barely avoiding clipping the minotaur's horned head. "Oy, Fatty! You smell worse than that, that, uh revocloptor I just ate!" He ascends far out of Meranus's reach, snickering ["heckling"] in his way as he goes.
As they continue toward the trading post, Henrix considers his suspicions. Upon reaching the mesa, he decides to act upon them. He approaches Toregan, tapping him on the shoulder and indicating that the ranger look forward. Then, with an index finger, he reaches in front of Toregan and begins to draw shapes in the air, leaving behind streams of glimmering light which are multicolored and immobile. It takes him quite a while - at a rate of perhaps one or two words per round - but eventually it is clear to all who watch that he is literally writing in the air [using Prestidigitation]. His writing is neat, the cursive of a professional scribe. It takes him several minutes, but when he is finished, the message says:
"I have reservations regarding our destination. This voyage has been nothing if not mortally dangerous. Our mysterious employer's purposes for sending us here are vague and his description of our actual imperatives upon arrival at the present location was suspiciously and - perhaps intentionally - misconstrued. The very same night that we received the job, an arrogant gang attacked us in plain view of the public, then fled. Additionally, at least three mercenary groups, including our own, have failed to properly arrive at their intended destinations, ostensibly by mistake. However, given the unlikely possibility that all of the teleportation devices - of which there were presumably at least three - were dysfunctional by accident, I suspect foul play, though I do not know whether sabotage or setup. I do know that we are insufficiently informed about the location we are traveling to and about the consequences of arriving at said location. I would therefore suggest extreme caution."
When Toregan and the others have finished reading it, he waves his hand and the message disappears.

Artrius watches as Henrix writes in the air and looks at the wizard with a quizzical look "You a mute or something?" Looking back to the party he continues "Toregan has the right of it. The outpost is up there. Well, that's where I remember it being anyway. Strange, where's the lift?"
Heckle nests atop a branch approximately 80ft above the party, with a clear view of the proceedings and out of Meranus's reach. Leonan suggests sending Heckle up top to look for the outpost - if it even exists.
Toregan and Tel notice what Artrius may have been referring to. A set of ropes hang from the cliff nearby to the right of where you stand - maybe 50ft off the ground. Approximately 400 feet up seemingly connected to the ropes is some sort of platform perched at an angle. You are fairly confident that you can see some humanoid figures atop it. They don't look to be in distress of any kind. In fact, it almost appears as if they have seen you too. After what appears to be an animated discussion, they go back to whatever it was they were doing. They are moving around the platform slowly doing something to it.
"Aye - that's the lift" Artrius confirms "Though why is it halfway? Now what?"
In the boxes you find a number of mundane items - some pitons, rope, hammers and nails. Judging by their position, it is likely they fell from the platform and smashed when they hit the ground.
Tel's keen eyes also notice broken twigs, crushed grass, and the kinds of signs one would expect to find along an unmarked trail. It heads to the left towards a set of hedges and bushes.

Henrix affixes his more obnoxiously slow companions with a glowering look and a small sigh, but otherwise remains unperturbed by their lack of concern. Clearly, my superior intellect is better used elsewhere. However, the squire makes a good point. For a hired blade, he does perhaps have a decent head on his shoulders. I suppose that a sharp sword does not a dull mind make. Now, where is that bird...? He then tugs on a strap around his neck and unearths a whistle, which he blows once. When Heckle descends, the wizard will whisper him instructions to fly up to the top of the mesa to see what's there and then immediately report back.
At this point Henrix notices the lift, and stares at it blankly, deep in thought.

Where's the Trading Post? - (DM RobC) d20+6=14 ; d20+11=24 ; d20+11=12 ; d20+5=10 ; Monday January 16th, 2012 7:56:34 PM Heckle reluctantly begins his climb. Though Henrix can't communicate with his familiar at this range, he does stay in tune with the raven's emotions.
Meranus gathers the tools in a pile and examines them whilst Toregan tries to make a clear area lest anything else fall - intentionally or otherwise - from the platform. Only the rope seems to be in good condition. The rest looks used, but the quality seems sound. Meranus takes a piton and drives it into the mountainface to test that it will support his weight. A capable climber, he is confident he could reach the top by nightfall.
Yngvar decides not to expect anything, and to take the world as it comes.
Tel's examination of the bushes, meanwhile, proves more fruitful. He discover a trail cut into the side of the mesa. It is old, appears to be partially collapsed in places, and seems to rise curving around the circumference of the plateau. It is a switchback trail and impossible to see where it goes or if it continues all the way to the top.
Rexxan tries to get the attention of the humanoids above, but either they can't hear him or they are ignoring him. They seem to be waving at something and then can no longer be seen.
Henrix then feels an overwhelming sense of terror and panic from his familiar. Heckle cannot be seen in the sky anymore, but his emotions are clear. Looking up you finally see a small black dot getting larger and larger. Heckle is in a dive - straight down towards you. It looks to be controlled. He pulls up at the last moment to land behind Henrix"Big... birds!" the raven pants "Next time... you fly!"
Once he regains his breath, Heckle explains as best he can "I was flying up, minding my own business. Saw a trail and a big nest nearby too. Anyway, I'm flying higher and higher - the guys on that bit of wood started waving at me, and then started to run away. I couldn't work it out, so I kept going. Next thing, I see these two huge birds coming straight at me - bigger than cow man there" he says looking at Meranus. "One tried to eat me! After that, I just dived. "Thank you for your help. I will not send you up there again. Now... the men on the platform... what were they saying? They saw you for what you are, and ran away? They were on a platform... where could they have gone? And those birds... did they look anything like the raptors we fought earlier?"

Then just started climbing a rope ladder really quickly. " Heckle takes a moment to clean under his wing "Raptors? You mean those chicken things from earlier? It's a long trail - (DM RobC) Tuesday January 17th, 2012 9:41:32 PM
The party decide that the trail will be the quickest, and probably safest, route to the top to reach the suspected trading post. The keen eyed Tel leads the party up the trail.
Heckle stays within arms reach of Henrix keen not to encounter any more big birds.
It is a relatively even slope that zig-zags along the south-eastern side of the mesa. As the party climbs higher, and can finally see above the treeline, you see something unexpected (to all bar Yngvar who has decided anything can be expected). An ocean to the south. The jungle and mesa stop short at what looks to be a sudden edge - a cliff perhaps?
The climb continues until Tel halts the party.
Ahead, a 15' section of the trail seems to be missing - fallen away to the ground below. The trail seems to continue on the other side, but this gap could be an issue.

Meranus quickly runs back down to the base of the mesa. Travel is so much faster without the little ones slowing him down. He looks for the nearest tree that could (a) provide wood that would support his weight, (b) be cut down with as little fuss as possible, and (c) hopefully not draw too much attention. Rather than chopping down an entire tree, the taur decides to simply lop off some of the branches that he can reach. With the branches under his arm, he also stops to grab the wooden remnants of the fallen crates that may aid in construction of his makeshift bridge.
Whilst Meranus has gone for wood, Rexxan readies his grappling hook and looks at the mountain above him. With the zig-zag pattern of the trail, it could be possible to catch the above section of trail with the hook and continue the journey from there. It looks to be around 30ft above you.
Atrius and the elf watch on in silence. Toregan and Leonan are ready to assist whoever requires it.
Heckle still sits atop Henrix's shoulder. "There! That's them!" Hundreds of feet above the party you see two large winged animals flying away from the mountain. Even from this distance you can tell they are very large.
Meranus returns without having even broken a sweat

It's a long trail - (DM RobC) Thursday January 19th, 2012 11:05:26 PM Toregan twirls the grapping hook and rope, and casts it up. With his first throw he manages to secure the hook on the ledge above. A quick pull on the rope to test it, and it seems secure.
Once done, he then gives Meranus some assistance by constructing a makeshift bridge. Interlocked branches, a few planks of wood from the crates, and the rope found earlier all tie together nicely. In fact, the bridge is so secure, everyone can walk over it with ease. (OOC: Even with all sorts of difficulty modifiers applied, it still works out that no acrobatics check is needed. Nice survival roll there Toregan!)
Leonan expertly leads his pack mule across the bridge. The animal seems reluctant to follow, but your coaxing convinces it to follow (used your D20 roll for Handle Animal to guide the mule over the bridge)
Rexxan, however, shows off his prowess and starts climbing up the rope to the ledge above. He makes it in good time, and rests on the ledge while he awaits the rest of the party to join him.
Tel spots the birds in the sky, but at this distance he cannot be sure what they are.
Henrix looks at the "birds" indicated by Heckle. He is quick to deduce that they are not in fact birds, but pteranodons - large, flying, carnivorous reptiles. Fortunately they seem to be leaving the immediate area.
The group press on, continuing their upward journey. You guess you have made it to around 600ft now, and the view is quite clear. A lush green jungle, a calm blue ocean. If it weren't for the ever-present dangers, this land would be quite nice.
"Uh oh" says Heckle, the raven's eyes looking skyward. The pteranodons look to have returned back to the mesa. They don't seem to have spied the party, and instead continue their journey to the mesa. You have quite a clear view of them from this height - you guess only a few hundred feet away, maybe less? It is unclear whether they notice you or not, but they don't head towards the party.

Rexxan calls on Domi's blessing to heal Yngvar and does quite a good job of it yet again. This party seem to require assistance, perhaps Rexxan's path lies with them?
The party continue their ascent relatively easily. No more predators seem to be hunting the party for the time being, though you cannot shake the feeling that perhaps they are just waiting for an opportune moment.
When you reach the top of the trail you are standing on the eastern side of the mesa, and the sight is truly something to behold. To your east you can see the vast, lush green jungle below the mesa, with the occaisional small pocket of what look to be open, grassy fields. "Well, I'm not saying I'd like to build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely" notes the elf.
To the north-west you se the almost perfectly flat land atop the mesa. Copses of tress, thick brush with fields of wild, waist high grasses - you even note a couple of animals (antelope, perhaps?) grazing in the distance. To the west you can see the sun start to go down behind the mesa.
To the south east you notice a vast field of golden grain. A stony trail leads through the field and heads towards a large wooden structure. The fence of the outpost.
"At last" sighs Atrius.
The party, eager to finally reach their destination head towards the outpost. The palisade style fence is constructed of large wooden logs and appears capable of keeping most kinds of trouble out. You note manned towers rising above the corners of the square, fenced outpost. Watchtowers most likely. The large double gates to the outpost are open and you continue to walk towards them. Getting closer, you notice each man in the watchtower appears armed with a bow of some kind. Their weapons aren't pointed at you yet, but you certainly have been noticed by the men.
A dozen or so people stand inside the gated area. You notice most are holdings things such as clubs, pitchforks and the odd sword or two. They don't seem to be holding them threateningly, nor are they trying to hide them. A few start to backstep as the party approach. One man calls out as the party nears "State your business!"
(Andrew) Henrix Sharpsword AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 11 -- HP 10/10 Tuesday January 24th, 2012 11:16:04 PM
"What about the ROUS's?" asks Heckle in a whiny voice.
Under his breath, Henrix responds, "Reptiles Of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist."
In his frustration and exhaustion, Henrix briefly considers charming whichever man appears to be in charge, but quickly decides against it for now.
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 17 -- HP 1/11 Wednesday January 25th, 2012 8:18:18 AM
Toregan, having safely led the party to the CTP is now thrust into his worst nightmare. Having to talk to strangers. He hangs at the back of the group for the first time since the beginning of their journey, uncomfortable with talking to the "guards".
(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 12 -- HP 1/8 Wednesday January 25th, 2012 10:42:00 AM
Yngvar turns and looks at Atrius, "it's all you buddy."
Yngvar looks around, a frown on his face as he takes in the palisade and watch towers. The palisade and watchtowers on top of a mesa with a very narrow, damaged trail up it. The palisade and towers that are not defensively placed along the edge of the mesa, or the top of the trail, but far enough back to allow an enemy to gain a foothold before laying siege.
Yngvar mutters low enough for his companions to hear him, "no wonder this place needs help, their security wouldn't keep toddlers out of cookie jars."
(Derek) Tel Longstride AC 19/14/14 -- CMD 15 -- HP 11/11 Wednesday January 25th, 2012 6:13:12 PM
Tel steps forward top in front of the tower. "I am Tel Longstride,.." he proclaims, sticking the point of the sling-staff into the ground defiantly. "...representing the Longstride Trading Company." he motions to the rest of the party. They have their own reasons to come here, but I vouch for them on behalf of my company's contract."
(Erik) Leonan Songsteel AC 21/13/18 -- CMD 19 -- HP 13/13 Wednesday January 25th, 2012 6:26:27 PM "I'll pay for a bath and a shave. Get me a damned hot bath and alert the barber!" Leonan booms as he strides past the welcoming committee.
"I'll fill you in on every sordid circumstance of our ill-fated arrival while I soak."
(Sorry for the unannounced absence. I had a bad stomach flu and just totally forgot to alert anyone here.)
The outpost - (DM RobC) Wednesday January 25th, 2012 10:43:36 PM "You're not going anywhere boy until we know what your intentions are" a stocky, older dwarf steps in front of Leonan, blocking his path. He holds an axe that appears very well used.
"Put it away Risca, before you hurt someone" Artrius speaks, stepping forward and placing a hand on Leonan's shoulder, lest the fighter do something rash "This is the group that Mr Randolph has hired. They're here to help"
The dwarf squints at Leonan but lowers his axe.
The onlookers start whispering amongst themselves as they inspect the group
"By the gods, Artrius, we were expecting you days ago!" a small well-dressed gnome who had been 'hiding' at the back of the group steps forward and goes to greet Artrius with a handshake "We had feared the worst"
The mood seems to change as the townsfolk relax and start asking questions. There is a growing sense of excitement...
"Are they here to stay, Pen?" "An adventuring group? Here to help us? About time!" "Do you think they can protect the trails?" "Better maps of the area would help too" "And the well. That water tastes foul!" "And don't forget about taking care of some of those bullies that keep coming around" "We need better security everywhere, not just in the town" "That big guy there -" pointing at Meranus " - looks like he could rip them in two with his bare hands" "I think that one -" pointing at Rexxan " - is cute. I wonder if he'd let me touch his warhammer?" "Keep it in your pants, Anna. I'll just be glad if someone can get the bleedin' lift fixed!" The last call is met by cheers from the crowd.
"People, people, please!" the gnome gestures for the group to calm down. "There will be plenty of time to go over such details. For the time being though, these people look like they could use some food and rest." he turns to address the party "Forgive the excitement, but you bring hope to us. My name is Penfold Pwent, but people just call me Pen" he goes to shake each persons hand. "I've been assigned to administer this outpost. Anything you need you just let me know. A room at the inn has been prepared for you all to share. We thought having one large room for you as a group would allow you more privacy, a kind of base of operations if you will. Please, please. Follow me"
As the townfolk disperse, you catch a beautiful blonde half-elf woman giving a wink to Rexxan as she skips away. The dwarf that had stepped in front of Leonan looks him up and down before slowly walking away.
The large gates of the outpost are shut behind you.
Pen leads the group through the outpost to the tavern "Haggard would you be so kind as to have Hope prepare a meal for our guests? Oh, and if you could open up a barrel of Bast's finest to help wash it down" Pen directs his request to the barkeep before turning back to the party. "Your room is upstairs if you would like to freshen up. Please join me back here for supper, and I would happy to give you a quick status report of the outpost before we turn in. Artrius, if you wouldn't mind, I would like a word as to why the blazes you are so late in arriving!" You sense the point to Artrius is said with humour and not ill-intent.
Artrius and Pen adjourn to a large table in the tavern.
(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 12 -- HP 7/8 Thursday January 26th, 2012 2:08:00 PM
(OOC: I'd like a topo map of the mesa, town, the trail up the side of the mesa, and the lift.)
DM RobC: Maps already drawn up and will be provided once Pen has given you the run down :)
(Josh) Meranus Stormhorn AC 16/12/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 15/15 (3 sub) Thursday January 26th, 2012 7:29:25 PM "Finally. Let's try some of this brewmaster's ale...." Meranus tries to find a chair that will support him; if he doesn't, he'll grumble about making a special trip down the mesa for materials and will kneel at the table.
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 17 -- HP 1/11 Thursday January 26th, 2012 7:45:34 PM "I'm with you on that Meranus." He sits down at the table as well, grateful for the chance to relax.
(Erik) Leonan Songsteel AC 21/13/18 -- CMD 19 -- HP 13/13 Thursday January 26th, 2012 8:31:06 PM
Leonan tries harder to get a bath and shave, not letting dwarves get in the way this time.
(Andrew) Henrix Sharpsword AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 11 -- HP 10/10 Thursday January 26th, 2012 9:52:21 PM
Henrix is not terribly pleased with the thought of sharing a room with his companions, but he is eager to sleep in a real bed without fear of being eaten by giant reptiles. He sinks into a chair by the end of the table.
Heckle remains outside, perched on the roof of the inn.
The outpost - (DM RobC) Friday January 27th, 2012 1:39:15 AM OOC: Awaiting posts from Rexxan and Tel
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 17 -- HP 1/11 Friday January 27th, 2012 4:23:16 PM Bruno (Rexxan) said he probably wouldn't be able to post until next Saturday in his last post. Just making sure you knew.

(Derek) Tel Longstride AC 19/14/14 -- CMD 15 -- HP 11/11 Friday January 27th, 2012 9:48:07 PM
Tel quickly ,moves away from the oncoming rush of humanity, intending to avoid being stepped on. Seeing the party being welcomed as the outposts future saviors, Tel sat his hands on his swords hilts and watched.
Once the party moves to the Inn, Tel takes a table near the corner and finally orders a decent meal and a large cup of ale.
The outpost - (DM RobC) Friday January 27th, 2012 11:41:06 PM DM post will come in a few hours. Just need to do some tallying and prep work first...
The outpost - (DM RobC) Saturday January 28th, 2012 1:24:33 AM OOC: Thanks for reminding me about Rexxan. He did send me an email and I'd completely forgotten about it. We'll have to see how he responds to the half-elf when he gets back
The chairs all seem a bit small for Meranus but fortunately a small table nearby looks just about right to double as a chair for him. He pulls it up to the table with ease, and then settles down awaiting the drinks.
Toregan too is keen to sample some fare, and joins the forming group at the table. Tel secures a seat at the corner of the table by the wall. Experience has taught him that it will be more difficult for anyone to sneak up on him this way.
Leonan takes a moment to excuse himself to freshen up. On the second level of the tavern you find the room that has been set aside for the party. You also find a communal washroom at each end of the floor. A beautiful young woman holds a door open for you, gesturing for you to enter. "I've readied a bath for you as requested sir, though you might want to make it brief" The woman smiles politely and leaves, heading back downstairs. The water in the bath appears hot. It also appears brown and smells quite bad. Your call if you still wish to bathe before reuniting with the party downstairs...
Artrius and the elf are no longer in the tavern. Pen mentions that they have gone to see the herbalist for some further aid to completely heal the elf.
The tavern keeper brings out a round of drinks - Lost Hall's Porter. The taste isn't the dilluted swill you'd expect from a backwater outpost. This dark beer is full flavoured and potent - obviously brewed by a professional. Large trays of food are placed in the middle of the table - fruits, vegetables, breads and cakes of various descriptions. No meat or dairy however.
Once all are seated at the table, Pen stands to address the group. "Thankyou all for coming here. I understand that the journey was not as smooth as planned but let us hope that the difficulties are behind us. To better times!" he holds his mug aloft as a toast before taking a small sip. "I will be brief. You no doubt would like some time to rest, and you will likely need it. You see, this is the third time an outpost has been established in Cthonia. The last two did not survive, and I fear we may be heading down the same path" he looks solemnly into his mug "You name it and we need it. Stable trade routes, better protection, why, even a means to come and go from here would be a start! Yes, the lift will be first thing to be addressed. Tomorrow I will give you a personal tour of my outpost. You will see that the people here are dedicated, and more than capable of turning this into a veritable hub for trade. All they require is a little assistance to get there. So please, rest tonight. There will be much to do in the morning. I'll leave you now to be with my family, but Haggard our tavern owner will be here to meet your needs through the night" Pen then goes to shake each persons hand before leaving "Oh and Haggard, be sure to send a bill for all food and drinks consumed by these travellers to my office. I will cover any expenses they may incur"

Congratulation on your safe arrival at the outpost! All players are awarded 1910xp, which should put everyone at level 2! The next few days will be an introduction to the town to allow you time to update your character sheets
(BrunoT) Rexxan Illiek AC 18/11/17 -- CMD 14 -- HP 10/10 -- FATIGUED Sunday January 29th, 2012 5:17:23 PM OOC: I'm finally back from my trip. Had a little problem with my flight (canceled due to bad weather) and only got back today. To respond the beautiful half-elf Anna's flirt I first need to know if a Domi cleric is supposed to be chast (I don't know if this is right or not but the meaning is if he can engage in a "romantic" relationship).
"Ah! Finally a good place to rest! Rexxan rushes to the bath but stops as he notices the water condition. "Hmm, yeah I'll probably make it quick." He takes off his armor and washes "the important parts" with the help of a towel.
When he gets to the table, Rexxan is wearing only his traveling clothes after leaving his armor, weapons and traveling gear in their bedroom. And while sitting he says, "If I may, I'd like to suggest to address the water problem first. To my knowledge, water is more important than a lift to survive." In a lower voice he says, [b]"I'm very concerned if they are drinking this water."
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 17 -- HP 1/11 Sunday January 29th, 2012 6:19:25 PM
Drinking slowly and savoring the flavorful beer, Toregan listens intently to Pen and carefully notes the points that need help at the outpost. Once Pen leaves and Rexxan suggests that the water be their priority, Toregan shakes his head. "Tainted water can be filtered and cleaned, and the fact that there is a brewmaster here means they won't lack for clean drinking water as he would know how to clean the water. However, the lift is what allows them to gather resources from the forest below. Seeing as the path we came up has broken for the time being, I agree with Pen. The lift should be first, but the water problem sounds like its a close second."
