Co-DM SteveK - Fixers and Lookouts Thursday January 19th, 2012 1:46:08 PM
Bralin suggests that the goods are scanned with Detect Magic. No one has done that yet and since no one objects, the dwarf casts his orison. Immediately, one of the glass beads lights up with a faint evocation aura to Bralin's eyes.
Bertold's eyes light up. "I know what that is!", he exclaims, "It is a Campfire Bead. This tiny glass bead transforms itself into a small (2-foot-tall) pile of burning logs whenever its command word is spoken. The fire burns for 8 hours or until extinguished, at which point it turns back into a bead. The owner of the item must wait twice as long as the fire burned before he can order the bead to become a campfire again. It is worth 720 gold pieces."
"I am sorry, Master Bralin", continues Bertold, "but we have left the Catacombs behind us until they are able to build an entrance in the new city of Rum. I am afraid that treasure, equipment, and any magic items you may want are limited to what has been brought in the holds of ships, what is found in the new land, and what may be created by the Fixers." Bertold raises a hand, "And before you ask, the Fixers are going to be a bit preoccupied in building the city and not taking personal requests for at least a year."
Artus interrupts. The halfling navigator passes around mugs of watered rum in light of being so near land. "The WLA will have an exchequer that will set up a store for WLAers and provide banking and basic equipment needs while the city is built, my young heroes. But more than that, I just wanted to tell you what a great job you've done on this voyage. Chipping in with the chores and as part of the crew. Showing everyone respect. Much of the high morale of the crew this long voyage is due to your efforts. Even your daily sword fights on the deck had their effect on morale.
"So let us enjoy this meal together and know that I will be sending a letter of recommendation to the WLA as well as the Rum Project manager, Anvil Stormrager."
As the first course of food is brought in, a strong voice yells from the mast, "LAND HO!"
Rtus empties his mug and rises with a flash of expectation in his eyes.
The door opens and the cabin boy flushed and excited enters without permission and says, stumbling over his words, "Navigator! We're here!"
Shouts of joy from the crew. As the heroes boil out of the cabin, they can see Fireballs being launched from nearby ships echo with a concussive sound. On the far horizon, a low, dark shape like an unmoving cloud is seen... LAND!
When things settle down, about four hours later, Artus has them back in for a strong tea to make up for the interrupted dinner. 'Didn't think we'd end up getting any sleep tonight. The fleet is timing it best we can for the bard on the lead boat. Supposedly this is a big deal and he's going to paint the approach and write a celebratory song at sunrise when we first see the island."
Again, the cabin boy interrupts saying, "Sir, they just sent us a message from the flag ship. Stormrager and his bard are coming aboard at dawn. We're being given first sighting honors!"

A campfire bead. How wonderful to be able to have the comfort of a fire so easily without the gathering of the wood or the tending of the fire. Harvest Moon wishes that she had such miracles within her that she has seen within the others of her fellow League Adventurers.
And then the call comes out for Land and the ship is all abuzz.
"Fixer Bertold," Harvest Moon enquires, "what does this mean? First sighting honors?"
Peza Thursday January 19th, 2012 9:39:37 PM
Peza blushes at the praise from Artus .. " i think the trip has been very good experience for us , we just met each other , learning each others strengths and how we fit in and can help each other ..."
When the sighting of land is annouced she rushes onto the deck ... striding to the railing ...the raven haired girl's eyes search out the land ... " Wow ... thats unbelievable ... finially we made it ... with skill and a bit of luck we found our new home '"
Bralin the Stonesinger Thursday January 19th, 2012 9:48:16 PM
Bralin heeds Crag's advice, eating and drinking very little. The dwarf quickly finds he prefers the open air and a breeze in his face rather than any cabin. The cry of land is welcome, as he won't have to spend much time on the rolling sea.
Harvest asks about first sight honors, and Bralin replies, "most likely this ship will be nearest the island come sunrise."

OOC: I'm gonna jump in here real quick like. I didn't receive any votes for Hero points so I went through the battle and decided that everyone had a decisive part in the victory. Danger was all about and even though Lemick was out of action for a while due to pc problems, his healing and daring jump into the yaw boat is worth something to talk about.
This could have easily been overwhelming to you guys. I didn't realize it until it all started that you guys were only 1st level. In my attempt to keep things challenging and not overwhelming, events took a turn (some bad climb checks) such that you didn't take on the big guy at the end. Sorry about that. :}
However, I hope I did the enemy justice and you had a good time. I was aiming to protray the ferocity of the Sahuagin and viciousness of a shark attack. I hope it worked.
I believe you all deserve a Hero Point each, I know you'll need 'em. ; )

Lemick shouts, "A Blessing Indeed!" as Land is sighted and he jugs his drink eager to step on solid ground. While it's a full night away, his sleepiness is now forgotten.
Later he says during the meal, "I think I'm going to sleep on the ground for at least a week!"
While Lemick doesn't feel he deserves the honor of stepping first onto the new land, he doesn't plan to linger on the ship any longer than he need too.

After dinner and the talk of the honor of first sighting, he returns to his where he has stowed his gear, and spends some time cleaning his armor, clothes and shield. "spose if we are gonna be first to land, we probably wanna look the part of heroes" he says to anyone in hearing distance as he cleans chunks of dried blood and shark guts from his clothes and hair. As he works, he thinks back upon what he left behind, and what lays ahead, and almost breaks a smile, pleased that the Gods chose to send him on this journey.

The large taur is in agreement with the dwarves, but for completely different reasons. The ship was so crowded and confining, practically like being underground. It would feel good to be on land with space about to stretch. The Catacombs, yes Metascar had spoke of the place once or twice. Hopefully the Fixers would make crafting the opening to the place among thier top priorities. Over the watered rum, Barratore speaks up, "We should see to becoming official members of the WLA as soon as possible tomorrow." On Crags suggestion, Barrator grunts in agreement and looks for Gerox.
"Can you magically assist with the clean and dry?"
First sighting honors certainly has the sailors busting with pride and so Barratore will take the honor for what it is and treat it as such. "I'll be on the bow aswe come in I think." he says to none in particular.

Gerox also volunteers to hold the black gem for the group as group treasure. lf that is alright with everyone else.
Co-DM SteveK - First Honors Friday January 20th, 2012 10:25:53 AM
Bertold smiles and opens his mouth to respond, but the cabin boy (taller than the Navigator) is bursting with excitement and talks first. "We saw land first, so we get to sail into the harbor first!" We..."
The cabin boy gets no further, because Artus, standing on his toes, had reached up and affectionately cuffed the boy in the back of the head. "Belay your squauking, Dhongel, and let the Fixer speak." Sheepishly, the cabin boy quiets, still nearly bounching with anticipation. The small admonition certainly didn't dampen his spirits!
Bertold pretends nothing happened and continues. "Anvil Stormrager is the Chief Fixer of this entire expedition. We of the Fixers and the combined efforts of all the rulers on the Elennian Penninsula have tried to plan for every contingency. This is a great effort where so many are working together, and Anvil Stormrager has brought his personal bard with him to record significant events for history. First Sight and Landing is one of them. Fixer Stormrager and Bard Pursis will arrive shortly. We are going to time the Fleet's arrival with the breaking of dawn, so as to give Bard Pursis the best opportunity for inspiration, and this ship will be not only the first to hear his composition, but perhaps add your own verses."
"Just think of it!", Bertold exclaims with a far away look in his eye. "Your words captured for all future generations!"
......
Bertold answers Gerox in this way: "Fixers are followers of Alemi who are devoted to repairing the ravages to the Wold caused by the recent cataclysms, such as the Year of Ascension and the rise of the Fae King. Their devotion extends to aiding in such repairs for free or at the most food and shelter while they are repairing. The efforts of the Fixers may soon have the Wold looking and working better than ever before.
Fixers are especially active in areas where cities have been ravaged and roads need renewal. Most often, Fixers are human, dwarf or gnome who honor Alemi with they crafts and skill at repair. Often they are clerics, though many have experience in other occupations.
Fixers can be found wherever the signs of devastation still remain. Some wander from place to place fixing whatever they find that needs repair. Some hire out to nobles and wealthy patrons; others donate their services to those in need. Others spend their lives in service to a specific locale, such as this new building of Rum. Some only repair things, but others make new objects that are functional, beautiful, or both. Some love magic; others prefer the mundane. However, Fixers never use their abilities unless the cause is just and the owner of an item promises not to use the repaired item for evil. In general, though, everyday folk welcome Fixers with open arms."
......
The heroes, realizing what a great honor this is, begin cleaning up and making themselves presentable as led by Crag.
Artus is also getting the SeaSprite ready, sailors cleaning the ship and then themselves from bowsprit to yawl boat. "Yes, yes. You have all done well and I have the authority to induct you into the WLA as soon as we have landed. When we get there, we need a place to set up for our future headquarters and training facilities, and you'll help and take advantage of all rights and privledges as befitting newly inducted WLA members then."
The heroes have not a lot of time to get ready for the arrival of the Fixer Chief, his Bard, and dawn. What preparations they make for this historic occasion that will be immortalized for all eternity ... is up to them!
Harvest Moon (AC17/T17/F14; HP18/18; CMD 18) - Al Friday January 20th, 2012 1:03:25 PM
Everyone is so very excited about the honors of first sighting. It seems such a grand thing, with she and her fellow League Adventurers coming first to Rum and being seen by all.
Unlike the others, this causes great consternation to Harvest Moon. She looks down at her dirty robe of rough cloth, many times mended. It hangs upon her slim body, the sleeves coming down past her hands, the lower hem often pooling at her feet.
Perhaps she could hide. In that way she would not shame the others with her disheveled appearance. But to have come all this way, across the great sea without ...
An idea comes to Harvest Moon as she looks out over the swelling surface of the dark green sea. She rushes for a pole and spends time fishing many long strips of sea plant from the surface and drying them upon the deck. After a time - a time, perhaps, too short for well cured material - Harvest Moon begins altering her old robe and augmenting it with strips of the beautiful smooth, near translucent, strips of sea plant. She cuts a slit up the center of the robe - which, until now she had simply slipped over her head - so that it may be more easily wrapped about herself. From the bottom of the robe, Harvest chops the excess to better fit her size. Strips of sea plant, she sews at the waist and shoulders. The hem of the robe, the cuffs, and the front edge of the hood, Harvest lines with lighter strips of green sea plant. Then, she creates a green belt to bind the robe closed. Upon finding that her new creation often comes open at the top, Harvest Moon binds her small breasts in strips of sea plant that tie at her back.
It is a long nights work. But, in the end, she is quite satisfied. Harvest Moon sleeps deeply, fatigued by the greatness of her efforts. She sleeps deeply and wakes the next morning and gives thanks to the sea for providing her with the beautiful green sea plants. But she finds that several strips of plant have come loose of her rushed and inexpert sewing. With great sadness, Harvest Moon holds one strip of sea plant to the place from which it had come loose. It would have to be painstakingly sewn back into place.
Then a miracle occurs. As Harvest Moon looks down upon the juncture of plant and robe, small tendrils begin to grow fastening plant and robe together once again. Her new robe is mended.

When things finally quiet down for the night, Lemick spends much of the night in semi-solitude (as much as you can on a ship) in meditation and prayer. He awakens with renewed strength and belief.
He begins to make himself as presentable as possible, washing his hair & shaving for the first time in weeks, cautious of the rocking of the boat. It takes him thrice as long to put his chain mail on than normal almost unfamaliar with the clasps and shining any smudges away. The weight seems extreme, not heavy as some of his muscles have built up on the ship, but the confinement of the armor is felt creating a greater feeling of awkwardness. He considers removing it, but decides against it as he wants to be prepared for whatever sees the crew landing on the new soil. His remaining items are stowed in his back and his weapons strapped for easy reach.
As he finishes he notices how others have cleaned up and gives each a nod and smile. Until the ceremony begins, Lemick, eager for land, now comparatively heavily burdened remains near the center of the ship.

The heroes prepare themselves, and dawn is but a hint on the furthest horizon when another flash of light announces the teleportation of guests on the SeaSprite. An old human and a muscled, but mighty beer bellied dwarf is standing amidships. The human is tall and skinny as a beanpole, his eyes seeming to see everything at once and the man is in constant motion. His fingers keep tapping out rhythms on the lute that hangs off of his belt. A guitar is hung on his back. It is beat up and used, but of amazing workmanship. In a pleasant tenor that carries from crows nest to below deck, he introduces the dwarf. "Master Artus, adventurers of the Woldian League and sailors of the SeaSprite, may I present to you Chief Fixer Anvil Stormrager, and future architect of the City of Rum!"
A Tattoo of an anvil and hammer on his bald head, Anvil is very imposing, but gentle of voice. "You are all blessed and welcome on this voyage", he says, every word feeling like the praise of a beloved grandfather. "Come to the bow, my children, and we shall begin." Anvil carries a very ornate and large adamantite vial of Woldsblood around his neck as a holy symbol. Alemi's symbol is embossed on the front of the vial. His Dwarven's clan's coat of arms is on the back: The hammer and anvil. Almost as an afterthought, Anvil turns with a twinkle in his eye to the Bard and says: "You too, Pursis."
Know Local or Nobility DC10: Highlight to display spoiler: {Pursis! He was the current Master of the Bard's Adademy in Plateau City and son of the reknown Ursis that chronicled the lives and adventurers of the Gold Dragons!}
Stately, Anvil and Pursis move to the bow, the old man quite agilely taking a position draped on the bow as he pulls his guitar around and strums a few notes that sound like sparkles across the morning waves. The Chief Fixer takes his place behind the bow and perfectly aligned with the centerline of the ship. As he places his feet, it seems like the stout dwarf becomes an immoveable object, a mountain standing on the deck.
Artus calls for hoisted sail, and the SeaSprite moves forward, leading the Fixer Fleet to the dark island looming before them. Bertold reverently hovers near Anvil, ready to do anything the senior Fixer wishes.
It seems the heroes are going to have a few minutes to get settled around Anvil and Pursis and even have the unheard of opportunity to have thier complete attention for a little time before the bard will begin his song!

Barratore decides to dress the part of leaving the ship and thus has all of his belongings stowed and shouldered for the morning. The arrival of the pair takes Barratore back a bit. he's not sure what he expected a renowned bard to look like, but the old jittery man before him, was not it. Barratore falls in behind the last of his group. He would be able to see just fine and like most of this journey, he didn't want to be in the way of the others.
Once at the bow a thought strkies him and he turns to the only person in the group he has seen writing things down, "Harvest, perhaps you should record this honor in your own words for us as well. Record the events that brought us here. The great storm, the Wemics and battle with the shark men."

Come the morning, Harvest Moon gathers her belongings and prepares for the landing. As a final act of preparation before coming up out of the hold of the ship, she ties a long translucent green frond of sea plant just below the blade of her polearm. Then she ascends to the deck.
"Oh yes. That is a wonderful idea, Barratore Steelwind," Harvest Moon whispers in reply, scarcely daring to disturb the words of the bard and Chief Fixer Anvil Stormrager with her voice. "But the Wemics were before the storm. And it was the island of the Bat-winged Heads that we encountered in betwixt." She nods her head with determination. "I will do this. We will have our own history."
Harvest Moon then settles on the outer edge of their group of League Adventurers, at a place where she will call too much attention to herself, and will not be hemmed in by the taller Leaguers. The sea plant attached to her polearm catches the wind and flutters like a banner.

Shaking his head at his friends, he steps forward and sweeps his head into a bow. He pops back up and asks, "Please good sirs can you answer a question for me? What is the plan for Rum. Why such a big undertaking to make a new city months away from civilization? Is this a new trade route? Is their some exotic trade good on the isle? Why would the Powers that Be even hire us and the WLA to do this?
Co-DM SteveK - First Honors- Dawn Tuesday January 24th, 2012 12:34:10 PM
The WLA heroes, one and all make thier way as forward as possible. All except for Brom, who keeps his thoughts to himself, only looking at the sea and fingering a barely noticable scar from shark's teeth...
Bertold takes the opportunity to answer a question of the night before. "The shark-men call themselves Sahaugin, and are an entire race of ferocious barbarians and cutthroats. The most civilized thing they do is piracy, where the ship and goods are spared. Much more likely is slavery with eventual service at a meal... as the main course. From the accounts of Navigator Morindim, you were brave and fierce in repelling the sahaugin. Good for you!"
Gerox, never one to let an opportunity to speak go by, presents a number of questions to the visitors. It seems Pursis is busy, placing lute, guitar, and an easel with a whitewashed board up to exactly where he wants it, so it is the Chief Fixer himself that nods and half turns while answering the gnome.
"It is time", the pot-bellied dwarf begins, "for the separate peoples, crowded together on the Elennian Peninsula, to seek out more of the Wold that the gods have provided for us. Yrth is a very great continent, shaped like a giant crab looking south. Yet since the Cataclysm, we only know of the most south-eastern claw. Rum is our first venture for an intentional permanent re-settlement beyond the Elennian Peninsula. As such, the success of this venture can change the face of history for thousands of years. If a failure, do you think the governments will try again? If it devolves to a den of thieves, do you imagine Rum will be a jewel?" Anvil Stormrager shakes his immense beard. "And so, the Fixers and other well-meaning groups are sending their best foot forward to make this the best possible hope."
The old, but still hale dwarf looks closely at Gerox. "You ask, 'why me', young hero. Only the future may accurately answer this. But for the here and now, I suggest you and your companions ask, 'why NOT me!'."
.................
As the sun rises, the island, forested and beautiful with a bay that glitters in the sunlight, comes into view. Pursis, stands at the front of the ship and begins to play. A magical stone set on his brow glows and records every note. He sets the guitar on a stand and it continues to play as he starts painting on an easel, the scene before him. Amazing!
The SeaSprite, followed by the Fixer Fleet and the Rhemoras, sails majestically into the bay and around a rocky island. At the far end of the bay, a shallow slope depicts the future location of RUM. Pursis lays down the brush and brings up the guitar. He plays and sings a simple and catchy song. After he goes through it once, he invites the crew and party join in.
As the sun rises, the Island calls out to me. The bay shines in a way that reminds me of home. With this picture in my mind I am never alone. The Island, like my dreams, nourishes my soul. And if there's no one there, I still am not alone. And the mighty blue ocean rolls on to the shore, Like dreams that bind us together, We are one with the island.
Islands belong to the sea as my dreams belong to me. The cliffs reflecting the glow of the ocean's light When the morning rays come they are stepping-stones from the sun. Leading to the shores of the island, the island of Rum And the mighty blue ocean rolls on every shore, Like the dream that binds us together, We are one with the island.
Harvest Moon (AC17/T17/F14; HP18/18; CMD 18) - Al Tuesday January 24th, 2012 2:13:45 PM
Harvest Moon fights to retain the words as sung by Bard Pursis, but she feels the very things described in the words of the song begin to pull her away. The light of the rising sun as it plays upon the waters of the bay. The land that comes around to enclose the water of the bay, the land that waits, mysterious and unknown, and yet full of the things of which Chief Fixer Anvil Stormrager speaks. Expansion. Venture. Hope.
And, as Harvest Moon slips from the words of the bard and into the song of the bard, the song that becomes one with the lap of the sea and the approaching sounds of the land, a thought comes to Harvest Moon. It is a small thought, an oddly perplexing thought. If one is to concentrate upon remembering such events as these so that one may make a history, how then can one be a part of them? Would the act of working to remember them make them different than they would otherwise be?
The thought passes like a brief cloud that passes across the face of the sun. Then the force of the experience flows back into her, the sea, the morning, the bay, and the approach of a new adventure.

Barratore is always up for a good song and a good ale and he finds himself missing the later during the bards performance. The song, the picture before him and the knowledge that he is standing on the cusp of one of the greatest adventures ever undertaken has him trying his best to sing with the rest. [Performance 11] Not bad for the taur and knowing that he is not butchering the tune, makes him pull into the song all the harder.
Indeed why not them. A new step with new heroes, a new time, a new city, a new age. And he would lead clan Starlight into it.
As if reading Lemick's mind, Barratore asks aloud, "So what do we know of the island, its beasts and land? How far from shore to shore? What is the terrain, Have any been livin here for any period of time. What of the underground and under the seas nearby?"
Bralin the Stonesinger Tuesday January 24th, 2012 7:34:23 PM
Bralin nods to himself as the end of the bay comes into view. Truly a noble quest lies ahead.
The tune the bard plays is simple enough, but when the bard invites all to join, the dwarf grimaces. However, an invitation by the bard of the fleetmaster is not to be ignored.
Bralin joins in. Well, Bralin's lips move. But, it would be quite a feat to tell if any sound was coming out of them.
Crag Hammerfist AC: 18, HP: 22/22, CMD: 14 Tuesday January 24th, 2012 8:05:36 PM
Crag, unlike the others, does not sing, but focuses his mind to long ago, when a vision from the Gods sent him beginning upon this adventure. Here it lay before him. The chance to explore the unknown, help and protect those who may truly need it, from all manner of threat. The chance to work directly as the Gods saw fit, and perhaps a little selfishly, mayhap become something more in the process.
Taking a moment to remember tales of the great heroes of old, he tries to hold in the hope that perhaps one day, peoples of the Wold may one day tell stories of his exploits... stories of our exploits, as he looks around at the assembled group of would be heroes. An unusual group of different peoples from different ways and walks of life. Could they actually become a cohesive, well trained, tactical group? Only time and the Gods could tell, but the potential was there.
Crag turns his eyes back to the approaching island. The future awaits.
Co-DM SteveK - First Honors- First Steps Wednesday January 25th, 2012 10:23:21 AM
Harvest lets the song move her to silence, trying to take in every experience so she may later write down her observations in her new history.
Lemick looks for hidden messages in the song. Surely, there have been scouts here before this great fleet! Lemick remembers Captain Sal Theringer telling of the scouts, and remembers that the island is mountainous and forested, but there were no signs of organized, intelligent life but for a few scattered and very old ruins that the scouts agreed were prior to the Cataclysm.
Crag's mind wanders from mandates of the gods to worthy ancestors to the future and the possibility that HE and his companions may one day be listed with those worthy ancestors. Heady thoughts indeed.
The song is catchy, yet Barratore and Bralin are the only heroes to join and participate in some way, whether art, song, poetry or dance. There is a power there, a force that feeds them, ringing the two heroes in a feeling of purposefulness, and at the end of the song, they feel more ready to tackle what may come.
ooc: Barratore and Bralin get 50xp
Voices high and low, strong and off pitch form a chorus, close voices from the SeaSprite, but far away whispers are heard from the other ships and echoing off the forested mountains. All are recorded for history with the Memory Stone. Even the percussive sound of the anchor being dropped in the bay and the wind dying as the sails are lowered, add to the music of this glorius event and the realization of:
A NEW HOPE.
............................
The song, the moment ends as all things must end, and the Fleet gets about to the work at hand. Boats are lowered, and work parties head towards shore. It looks like a large group of Fixers is heading to one spot in the near center of the cresent shaped bay. Other boats are driving towards the shore, and Artus urges the heroes to help ferry the tent and claiming stakes to the shore. "The Fixer scouts have already set up stakes and grids for where the roads and building are going to go", explains Artus in his weather-roughened bass, "but there is no use taking chances! Load out and then take a couple of the sailors to stake our claim and start setting up tents. The more organized we look, the less likely any Rhemora will jump our claim!"
Harvest Moon (AC17/T17/F14; HP18/18; CMD 18) - Al Wednesday January 25th, 2012 2:54:35 PM
From the peaceful beauty of the song, the tempo of the day lurches quite suddenly into a different rhythm. Harvest Moon grabs a bundle of the claiming stakes and hurries to one of the boats.
Her quickness of actions runs contrary, however, to the confusion that clouds her mind. Who is to claim what? And for whom? The Fixers are clearly of the same group as the WLA. But would the WLA need to claim its own territory for its own use? Apart from the Fixers?
"Does the Woldian League have its own claim, Navigator Artus Morindim?" calls Harvest Moon. "Where is it? And if we encounter any Rhemora, may we drive them off? Can we not claim the entire island and push them away?"

Co-DM SteveK - Stake Explanations Thursday January 26th, 2012 8:56:57 PM
Artus blinks a second and then scowls. "You mean Theringer didn't explain that? What was that meal-brained ranger thinking?" The halfling huffs, then sends the Cabin Boy for a map.
"There are a LOT of groups and organizations who are part of the Fixer Fleet. All of them have just as valuable a claim to being here and helping to build Rum. However, the WLA highly suspects that not all of them have the common good in mind when helping this expedition. Remember, back in South Harbor there was a group or multiple groups that were trying to stop the WLA from being a part of the fleet. It would be very easy here to have someone change a map, plant a stake, and then embroil us in a real estate battle. If the WLA is concentrating on our claim, how much energy will any of us have to pay attention to those people who may need our help?"
Artus lets that rhetorical question hang in the air. The obvious answer is "not much", and it dawns on the heroes that there is more than one way to get them out of the way than direct action...
The Cabin Boy returns with a map of the planned city of Rum, and Artus points to a part of the map in the Merchant District to the west of the main road. "The roads are all laid out, and the lots. Captain Theringer set the WLA stake to be three major roads uphill to the Merchant Quarter, and three minor roads west. There is a north-south road with a Lot surrounded by road halfway up the street; a perfect place for the WLA compound. According to Sal, it is among the merchants where we would probably be most needed, and halfway to the docks or government buildings."
The halfling looks up to make sure the heroes know which one he is looking at. (ooc: I can't manipulate the map, and so am hoping that my description is good enough? If not, we'll wing it!)
"If you get there first and the sailors start setting up tents, it will be easier wrestling with Domi than getting us off that land!"
..............
Bertold answers Gerox. "Surely, Master Gerox, each member of this Fleet may stake any unclaimed lots. If you do so, you must pay the purchase price and the annual taxes and the land is yours. The Warehouse, Low Rent, and Merchant areas have claims available starting at 1000 Gold Pieces for the Low Rent area. And the price will surely go up as more ships arrive."
Peza Thursday January 26th, 2012 9:36:42 PM

"We should study the map so we know where to go ...then we can make a hard push for the site ... and start staking the WLA's claim " adds Peza
The raven haired girl will study the map if able ....also checking out neighboring plots ...." we should help any of those staking claims near us .... i think that would be helpful in building some alliances early on .. at least be on friendly terms with them .. "

From there, Lemick sees Bralin moving about taking a strategic position along the perimeter. Lemick moves to assist. Based on all that, we'll have competition, and just prior to leaving we learned they don't play fair. Tried to start a fight with us just to get us in jail the morning we were set to sail. Harvest Moon does just as her friend Peza suggests. Her keen dark half-elfish eyes scan the many streets and such, fixing the landscape in her mind.
"I will know the place," Harvest Moon announces with confidence. She rushes off to the first boat. The bundle of stakes is under one arm. The polearm sits over the opposite shoulder with its green banner of kelp fluttering behind. "Follow me," she calls as she hops into the boat.
Upon hitting the shore, Harvest Moon pauses for but a moment to get her bearings, then she takes off at a fast lope. As she proceeds through the as of yet imaginary streets, eyes peeled for dangers, Harvest Moon also takes note of the manner in which the lots have been marked. Some small tickle in the back of her mind warns her to take note of how the staking of the lots should look so that she might recognize whether some may have been tampered with.

ooc: 1) Thanks Al! Exactly where I was thinking!
2) Everyone. I made a major error in naming conventions in the last module. There are TWO adventuring groups the WLAers have met. I have updated Wikipedia with this information. This is VERY IMPORTANT for the upcoming scenes. :-)
- Carlee's Demons. Led by the half-elf rogue, they started the fight in the tavern courtyard. No one has seen them since.
- Scully's Heroes. Led by an armored fighter and sailing aboard the Leaper. This group only traded calls and insults across the water. There has been NO fighting between the two groups to this point.
...........
Gerox feels there is opportunity if all the young heroes buy a plot of land, and maybe the WLA would extend them a loan? Already, the thought of going from young vagabonds to landowners has stars dancing in the gnome's eyes!
Peza sees that although the SeaSprite was first into the bay, other ships are rapidly coming abreast of the sloop. Many boats are being lowered, some with a dozen oars capable of those short bursts of speed necessary for landing craft. Already on shore are several small groups that have used magical means to arrive via various teleportations or one group who is ferrying ashore by a large flying carpet!
With Barratore acting as a living crane, it takes very little time for the Yawl Boat to be shock full of 2 Tents, a bag of marking stakes, a wheelbarrow, Harvest, Lemick, Brom, and 3 Sailors. Dangerously overfull, the boat nevertheless is able to put on sail and bringing out 2 oars, is able to get to shore very quickly. Lemick takes a moment to plant a coin for luck as the tents and stakes are thrown on the wheelbarrow, and the group is off!
One sailor takes the Yawl back to the SeaSprite and loads up with Bralin, Gerox, Peza, and Barratore and sailing back towards shore. Instead of getting boots and hooves wet, however, there is a Stone-and-wood pier jutting out into the water with a dozen Fixers just finishing up some spells!
Harvest leads the way, the map and her sharp eyes unerringly leading the group. The 'roads' aren't anything more than white-tipped stakes right now, with blue-tipped stakes identifying the various lots. Obviously the scouts here have been keeping busy in plotting out where the entire city is going to be! Harvest's eyes can tell that there has been several stakes bent, missing, or looks to be in the wrong location, but not enough to get her confused.
Harvest, Brom, Lemick and 2 Sailors (with wheelbarrow) trot up what will become the main thouroughfare, past a group of Fixers that have created a pond of fresh water where a fountain will eventually be, and up to the area where the merchants are going to place thier shops and houses. At the crossroads, up trots two other people, a well-armored human fighter, and a leather-clad taller human with an axe and necklace of animal teeth.
"Ha! Look here Lupo, it's our little friends from the SeaSprite, already brown-nosing with the Fixers!" The heroes recognize the brazen assurance coming from the armored warrior as the same voice that traded insults across the water all those months ago. This must be Scully! Scully and his wingman Lupo turn down the same street the heroes are going and they each have marking stakes in thier hand. "Don't think you are going to take the same lot as us", he warns with a grin, "you wouldn't like the results!"

Harvest Moon growls as she sidles around the two men. "I know you. You are of the Leaper. Go away," is all that she says. Continuing west between the white capped stakes, she is guided by their relationship to her memory of the map.
The white stakes are there. And there are another set further up. There should be a long stretch of lots before their own street. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. The problem would be the barrow. But they could catch up easily enough.
She eyes the terrain within the lots, gauging the footing. She turns but the briefest glance back at the pair from the Leaper to see what they might be doing.
"Follow me," she calls, and then leaves the as-of-yet-built-streets, cutting across the lots to make a direct path toward their lot, the one soon to belong to the League Adventurers.
OoC: If the terrain is difficult, ignore the last part.

Harvest's move catches Scully and his partner, Lupo, off guard, and the little lady goes scampering across the grasses and among the brightly colored stakes. Lemick trots afterwards as Brom keeps a watch on the Sailors and the wheelbarrow. Obviously, Scully isn't as confident as Harvest about which direction he is giong and so keeps to the roads, although he easily passes up the wheelbarrow.
Harvest is able to find her designated spot and plant her stake in the center of the roads. About five minutes later, Scully and Lupo arrive, and once again the sneer is back on Scully's face. "Couldn't dare take our claim, eh? Good for you!" And the leader of Scully's Heroes plants his own stake due East of Harvest!
Lemick, then Brom, then Barratore and the wheelbarrow arrive at the new location. Soon after, all the rest of the heroes are there too. While the Sailors take out of the barrow a large canvas roof and poles to more officially mark the site, the heroes can take a look around.
Just turning around and around, it is easy to see for a couple of blocks. In the distance to the north, great mountain peaks form an impressive barrier, with arms encircling the site of the town East and West. Closer to home, about half of the plots are being staked by a wide range of peoples.
And then right across the street are the eight adventurers of Scully's Heroes and thier own Sailors who are also putting up tents. Begrudgingly, it looks like they are disciplined and prepared. One of the first things that Scully does is put up two boards into a street placard. Harvest Moon (AC17/T17/F14; HP18/18; CMD 18) - Al Wednesday February 1st, 2012 10:17:36 AM
It is with great relief that Harvest Moon finds that it is not the League Adventurer lot in which the Leaper men are interested. It is the one directly across! This brings a small moue of dissatisfaction to her face. But, such as they can be ignored. As long, that is, as they are watched with care.
As the League Adventurer tents go up, sanitary holes are dug, cook fires are established, and all the trappings of a camp are begun, Harvest Moon's non-too covert surveillance of the Leaper men bears fruit. They are putting up a sign! Harvest Moon quickly finishes the task in which she is currently engaged and begins gathering materials to create a sign of her own.
"But Gerox Shale," she says from her place kneeling over the boards with paint and brush, "the Woldian League gives us bed and shelter. They have given us more food than I have ever had in the whole of my life. Why do we need a lot for ourselves?" she asks. Still, Harvest Moon spares a moment from her project and she spills the contents of her coin pouch onto the ground for use by the gnome should he wish. Thirteen golden disks and some smattering of silver and copper. "I would wish," she continues, and her eyes go to a distant place, "I think, to plant a garden some time." The words draw a wistful sigh from her. Then she returns to her project.
When she is finished, Harvest Moon works her fingers under the upper edge of a sign that is larger than she herself. She pulls it up off the ground to reveal it for all to see.
At the upper right corner is a picture of the disk that is the Wold. In each of the other three corners are the letters WLA. The main of the sign is dominated by the words "Woldian League of Adventurers." But underneath that, in smaller letters, are words that Thelonious had used when speaking to her of the League before she had set out on her journey to Plateau City. "Combat Evil. Protect Innocent."
Co-DM SteveK - First Night Wednesday February 1st, 2012 2:26:42 PM
The day goes by rapidly for the heroes, Artus, and the sailors from the SeaSprite. By the end of the day, a Great Pavilion is erected in the east area of the lot (with Harvest's sign prominent by the front flap.) Behind are five tents for sleeping quarters that can hold 6 medium creatures each. Three are given to the WLA Adventurers, and two for the sailors helping set up things. Artus and the remainder of the sailing crew continue to use the SeaSprite. There is a dining fly for eating nearby an open cookfire area to the north and the pit latrines dug to the south. All in all a good start!
Other groups in the immediate vicinity are likewise working hard. Scully and his heroes have a different kind of tent system, where a dozen medium-sized tents were all pitched together to form a canvas building. Again, other that the occasional glance of appraisal, the team from the Leaper does not cross the street to the WLA.
At the evening meal, Artus makes the trip to the WLA area and eats with the group. The last wheelbarrow holds some welcome items to the tents; stones with Continual Flame spells on them to have light inside each tent, 2 for the dining fly, and 8 for the large pavilion. "Just drape them with a piece of heavy canvas when you want to go to sleep", rasps Artus as he gives the team 3 of the stones.
"You have all done very well for yourselves. And I came up here to give you some information and advice." The halfling stokes a long-stemmed pipe while waiting for the group to get settled and become attentive.
"First, I have the authority from Captain Sal Theringer that upon arrival to the site of Rum, you are each inducted into the Woldian League of Adventurers as Initiates with all the responsibilities and privlidges thereunto and so forth." Artus stands on the table and solemnly pins a small blue badge with one tine on it to the clothing of Harvest, Peza, Gerox, Brom, Barratore, Lemick, and Crag (Bralin already having one). The badge says 'WLA'. "This badge denotes the wearer as a warrior for good, and a trustworthy character. Anyone who abuses their status in the League, will be swiftly and harshly dealt with."
"Second, induction into the League provides you with food and lodging at reduced rates and training. The services of a cleric, wizard, and ranger are also normally provided but... YOU are the WLA clerics and wizards right now, and Captain Theringer is still stuck in South Harbor! Now, what you may not have known is that the 6 sailors helping you set up today are not my permenant sailors; they are the administrative, domestic, and training staff for the new WLA Outpost and will remain here!"
"Lastly, I've been overhearing your talk of pooling your money for a plot of land. If you want some advice from an old salt, I'll tell you what I think."

Crag Hammerfist AC: 18, HP: 22/22, CMD: 14 Wednesday February 1st, 2012 3:18:58 PM
"Well, Gerox" says Crag as he goes through his pockets. "Looks like I have about 68 gold pieces to chip in."
Crag listens to Artus, and as he stops, chimes in. "continue on. I for one would be glad to hear your advice regarding land purchases."
Gerox Shale Hps 16/16 Wednesday February 1st, 2012 3:49:35 PM
Gerox also nods with encouragement at Artus's comments as he fingers his new pin and ponders the responsibility that will come with wearing it. "Yes please tell us what you think. Advice from all is always welcome."
Harvest Moon (AC17/T17/F14; HP18/18; CMD 18) - Al Wednesday February 1st, 2012 4:11:20 PM
She stares with disbelief as the badge is pinned to her ragged clothing. The weight of the responsibility and the honor of the title make their impact upon Harvest Moon with much greater effect than does the tiny piece of jewelry.
"I will work hard," is the best that she can muster, so flabbergasted is she.
Later, when the Navigator Artus Morindim offers his opinion on the purchase of a lot, Harvest Moon listens with great attention as the others express their willingness to hear. The only question that she herself asks is, "May we plant a garden here? Upon the lot of the Woldian League of Adventurers?"
Barratore Steelwind (Dan K) AC: 15 (T 11, FF 13), CMD: 19; HP: 23/23Character Sheet Wednesday February 1st, 2012 5:42:36 PM
Barratore straightens and his chest puffs with pride as he awaits his pin. So much into his own thoughts it takes a throat clearing to snap him back and stoop so that the pin may be afixed to him.
Barratore compliments Harvest on her sign and assists with settling it into the ground.
As Artus speaks Barratore listens and nods and grunts an acknowleging hello at the staff that will be staying.
"I would also welcome your Advise Artus."
When the group sists for dinner, Barratore will ask if any have seen the more hosttile group that assaulted them before sailing. Sully's Heroes might be for hire, but that does not make them the enemy. In fact, with them as our neighbors of the foreseeable future, it would likely be a good idea to meet with them. Ground rules, expectations and such and perhaps even tell them of the less than upstanding citizens of the other group.
Lemick 4-Leaf Sted/Anthony hp 16/16, ac 20/12/18 Wednesday February 1st, 2012 9:46:45 PM
Lemick thanks the captain for his pin, and suddenly feels the "real" burden of being the WLA cleric - it's far heavier than his armor. He holds it tight in his hand for now considering where best to have it displayed. Clearly in such a "small" encampment, it will become quickly obvious who he works with, with or without the pin.
Fingering his mostly empty pouch, Lemick considers the few coins he has remaining versus the merits of land ownership. He's eager to hear the captains view. While willing to own land, is unsure how practice it is at the moment, even if it can be afforded.
Peza Wednesday February 1st, 2012 9:57:51 PM
At Harvests mention of a garden ... " thats a great idea ....growing some fresh veggies will add to our meals ... but i don't know how big we can make it ... we could make some hanging gardens ... builda trllis or two "
"And i love you sign ... great work "
When Artus pins the WLA badge on her ... Peza tears up .... " i ....i .... thank you " stammers the girl ... " this means soo much ... i'll wear it with honor and respect "
To Gerox .... " thats a very intresting idea .... i would like to hear Artus's opinion and advice "
Greeting the six sailors/staff ... "you all worked soo hard on the ship ... you'll do great here ... i know i already feel better that your staying with us here ... its a hugh undertaking "
Peza adds a last comment " we're here to help others and make sure this new city of Rum becomes abeacon for all .... i think we should get to know our neighbors .... alll of them ...even Scully's group ... we could invite all of our neighbors for a little lunch or dinner one night ... might helps build up some good relations and trust '"

Bralin the Stonesinger Wednesday February 1st, 2012 9:57:51 PM
Bralin occasionally glances at the "Adventurers for Hire", especially as some of his companions seem unhappy to see them there. But Scully's group seem content to mind their own business, and Bralin's thoughts drift elsewhere - specifically, toward the mountain peaks. The dwarf catches himself staring at them more than once. He will definitely have to explore them one day.
Like the others, Bralin is quite interested in Artus' advice.
Brom the Barbarian; AC: 12 (T 12, FF 10, Raged 10), CMD: 19 (21 Raged); HP: 21/21 (25/25 Raged) Friday February 3rd, 2012 12:00:42 AM
While ceremonies are not Brom's cup of tea, he knows this is kind of important.
Brom has one ear towards Artus but both eyes planted squarely on Scully and his guys. Adversaries . . . rivials . . . or something else Brom isn't sure and keeps two wary eyes.
"Gerox, I got barely a few coins to rub together. The idea sounds nice but I don't know. Tell ya what any place we go needs a tavern near by. Easy coin bouncin. I gotta say the ladies like bouncer." He says with a smile still keepin his eyes on the happenings across the street.

Brom stares for a while. "I'm heading back to the beach to see if I can help any of the other leaguers. If not then maybe I can make some coin as a pack animal." Brom grabs his sword, hammer and his dagger and leaves the rest. "Watch my gear." He says before turning and jogging back to the beach.
Harvest Moon (AC17/T17/F14; HP18/18; CMD 18) - Al Friday February 3rd, 2012 1:47:43 PM
Money seems a curious and complicated thing. Or, so thinks Harvest Moon after hearing the opinion of Navigator Artus Morindim. The thoughts of the girl from the Contested Kingdoms, the girl who had never seen coins until but a year ago, wander the forest of implications that surround her. Money, or so it seems, is more than disks of metal that can be traded for food and other goods. It can be traded for the surety of one's territory such that one need not worry about the invasion of others or being driven from one's home. That is a powerful thing for simple disks of metal to accomplish.
Harvest Moon spies the sign made by the men of the Leaper. " ... for hire ... " The power of money makes itself known in little things that go unnoticed. Or so it seems.
The next few days are occupied by League Adventurer training. The League appears to have a wider variety of polearms than the rusted one that she found on her way to Plateau City. She chooses one that will not only hook the foot, but that also has a pointed end. The lesson of the underwater battle with the shark had made her lack plain. Sometimes one must stab with a point. One must be ready for such times. She is told that each particular polearm has a name. This one is the halberd.
