(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 12 -- HP 15/16 Tuesday January 31st, 2012 4:53:16 PM Update complete, added Summon Monster I and Feather Fall.
Trading Post Tavern Tuesday January 31st, 2012 8:37:56 PM
The group as a whole relaxes, eats and drinks. Some go to freshen up and the water supply is notably an issue that Pen will likely be speaking to them about. The food is fattening, filling and wholly satisfying, as are the drinks. Toregan and Rexxan banter about a priority list of what they know is of issue.
Haggard keeps mugs and plates full. Haggard appears in his forties perhaps and is a mountain of a man. Standing well over 6 feet tall and being nearly as thick with muscle. As he moves around behind the 8' monkeypod wood bar, a greatsword, suited more to Mernus's size than a human, hangs on the back wall. There are no other patrons about the place, which could comfortaly seat about 20 in the common room, nor is the beauty Rexxan spied upstairs as she apparently remained on the second floor.
The sweet sound of a stringed instrument, perhaps a lute can be heard from outside as some unknown and unseen minstrel plucks a soft soothing tune upon it
(BrunoT) Rexxan Illiek AC 18/11/17 -- CMD 14 -- HP 10/10 -- FATIGUED d8=7 ; Wednesday February 1st, 2012 5:31:15 AM OOC: GM, what about my question about Rexxan's chastity? I need to know because I could not find it in Domi's entry and he needs to react accordingly. DM - there is no such restrictions on Domi clerics
"You have a point there, Toregan. Alright, I agree we should take care of the lift first and then do something about the water." Rexxan then looks around and asks, "What do you think?"
DM RobC: No rules on chastity. Rexxan is free to act as best suits his personality ;)
[Rolling hit points]
(Derek) Tel Longstride AC 19/14/14 -- CMD 17 -- HP 18/18 Wednesday February 1st, 2012 7:23:48 PM
Tel wanders over to where Toregan and Rexxan are speaking. "Thinking about your next mission?" he asks, sipping from a halfling sized mug. " I have finished my duties for my parents trading company. I would welcome joining your band if I would be useful?"
OOC: Tel updated. My rolls continue to suck...lol
(Josh) Meranus Stormhorn AC 16/12/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 15/15 (3 sub) Wednesday February 1st, 2012 10:06:48 PM
Meranus cocks an ear at the lute music, and thinks mournfully of his didgeridoo. After drinking and eating his fill, he excuses himself and heads to the room, ready to whittle. (not entirely sure how crafting works for non-magic items in the wold; never had it come up)
(BrunoT) Rexxan Illiek AC 18/11/17 -- CMD 14 -- HP 19/19 -- FATIGUED Wednesday February 1st, 2012 10:20:16 PM "Well, I'm not officially part of the group but the situation brought us all together. I was sent here to help this good people and you are planning to do the same so why not we join up and work as a team? So, yeah, Tel, it would be good to have you in our proud party."
(Andrew) Henrix Sharpsword AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 11 -- HP 10/10 Thursday February 2nd, 2012 5:14:17 PM
[OOC: Hey guys, I'm still here but I'll be out of commission for a while. Few weeks at most.]
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 14/14 Thursday February 2nd, 2012 7:50:21 PM "I wouldn't mind. You've both already been a great help to us, so I don't see why you couldn't work with us."
Trading Post Tavern Thursday February 2nd, 2012 9:17:43 PM
Meranus heads to the room and is able to slide a pair of beds together to form a comfortable place for himself. Sitting down his thought drift to his didgeridoo and taking out a small piece of wood he begins to do a bit of whittling.
The others stay in the common room speaking among themselves. Tel asks about staying on with the group as does Rexxannn with the cleric announcing his intention to stay and help those at the trading post as he can regardless. It would certainly make the most sence if all were to band together.
Henrix excuses himself with a partial wave and upon gaining a bed in the room is quickly deep into slumber.
Eventually sleep finds all and the morning does as well. Breads and pastries of cinamon and apples waken the party with thier fresh enticing aromas whafting in from the dining hall and kitchen.
Gaining the facility, you are met by Pen and Haggard and the beautiful young woman Rexxann met the night before. Warm wine is served, mulled with a strong spice with some hard sharp cheddar as well.
A Mountain lion is curled in a sunbeam near the bar and an ear flicks back in your direction as you enter and coming in through the front door is a dwarf and halfling.
"Haggard you young pip" booms the dwarf, a touch of grey in his well groomed and braided beard, "Bring a lot more of whatever you got. Patterson's claiming to be hungry this morning" His thumb juts toward the halfling. "Bah! ye bearded gnome." comes the reply from the halfling identified as Patterson. Age lines and white hair mark him and his eyes shift about from the fire to the shadows and back as he takes a seat.
"Aye!" says the dwarf, "Well rested I hope." the dwarf hoists a mug at the seated party in greeting and then commences to eating
(BrunoT) Rexxan Illiek AC 18/11/17 -- CMD 14 -- HP 19/19 Friday February 3rd, 2012 5:44:19 AM
After entering the room, Rexxan gives a polite bow to everyone already there, "Good morning!", but saves a special one to the woman. "Milady!", he says lowering his head but without losing eye contact. "Ï don't know about the others but I had an excelent night. I feel ready to venture into those woods and kick some scaly...behinds. My coleagues and I are going to address the lift issue this morning. But since we don't know how to fix it, I predict we are going to escort someone. Am I correct?"
(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 12 -- HP 15/16 Friday February 3rd, 2012 10:24:43 AM "I would like to take a walk around the mesa top and assess the general security needs. I have noticed a few issues so far and would like to see how many others there are." Yngvar continues to the counter looking for a mug, "any cocoa?"
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 14/14 Friday February 3rd, 2012 11:29:45 PM
Toregan takes the mulled wine and cheese with a smile and nod of thanks, eating and drinking slowly. He decides that he'll sit back for the time being, and just help where he can.
Trading Post Tavern Monday February 6th, 2012 10:17:39 AM
Pen arrives and nods at Rexxan "Correct. I am sure you had a good view of some of the difficulties we have which are physical. The lift also could use metaphysical repair. I'll escort you there shortly. Our general security here on the Mesa is pretty good. The walls about the trading post keep our the hyenas and the little pack lizards that run about. The savages don't bother us up here or at least not so far. My guess is we are not in anyones claimed territory. Have to keep your wits about you if you go into the fields of course. Some of the hunters and Monstologers that come in can give you more detail when they visit. None here now but have been recording some as I hear through it. Sorry no cocoa"
Breakfast ends and Pen escorts the group to the topside of the lift. It appears like any other save a black rock sphere afixed on a two foot high pole with wooden gears and pulleys that connect through ropes. "this is the original winch system. It requires an arcane charge that we cannot supply and hopefully you can. It requires Conjuration magic to be infused. I have read the procedure many times and it seems straight forward enough. It is simply no one here can cast that school of magic and divine magic seems to be ineffective". Pen looks to Yngvar hopefully
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 14/14 Monday February 6th, 2012 7:46:49 PM
Toregan follows along, prepared to assist if he can.
(BrunoT) Rexxan Illiek AC 18/11/17 -- CMD 14 -- HP 19/19 Monday February 6th, 2012 8:22:32 PM
Rexxan smiles. "It's so nice how everything is connected. What would we do if Master Yngvar was not here with us? So, Brother Yngvar, would you mind? Thank you kindly!", he says with kindness.
(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 12 -- HP 15/16 Tuesday February 7th, 2012 11:02:30 AM
ooc: Just how big is this mesa? Are we talking a few acres in area or dozens of square miles?
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 14/14 Tuesday February 7th, 2012 2:13:33 PM Checking in.
(Josh) Meranus Stormhorn AC 16/12/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 15/15 (3 sub) Tuesday February 7th, 2012 4:20:21 PM (Note: Posting will be spotty while dealing with PC troubles at home and a zealous boss at work)
"Well, while someone figures out how to do their little tricks, I'd be happy to reinforce the structure for you."
Trading Post at the Lift Tuesday February 7th, 2012 11:55:16 PM
Pen smiles in agreement with Rexxan and answers Yngvar, "The Mesa is roughly 1000 square miles or a rough circle with a radius of about 18 miles. We are at the southwestern end of it. We know of several other trials up besides the one you came up the other day. 2 on the south, 1 west and 1 on the northern side. Living up here with us are some hyena, some antelope, a few copses of trees, at least 2 ankheg and a small pack of raptors. All of the wildlife stays towards the northern end. Well mostly they do. The northern end trail is supposed to be fairly easy to traverse as well. I suspect it is why they are near that side and do not stay up here full time. I've been hoping men and women of your caliber would be arriving soon. By caliber I mean those want might think of as heroes of the realm and not the butchers and thieves that last came i search of quick money and a fifedom to claim as thier own. Mr. Randolph's selection process to my eye seems to have been much more careful."
Pen looks to Meranus and nods as well, "Ah yes Patterson has been going on and on about the Trading Post defenses and airial assaults and what. Not sure what his fuss is about, but the halfling has a burr in his britches about it. I keep telling him this is a trading post and not a fort, but he won't hear of it. "
Pen turns back to the group, "So Artrius has told me of the accident and with that we are cut off for the short term until the good Wayfarers guild figure out what happened. The purpose of this Post was to serve as a collection point for the riches of the Thunder lands also known as Cthonia. There are a couple settlements here that i know of and rumor of one or two more." Pointing north east to a cloud, "That is Outland, dangerous town of might makes right and practically no laws to speak of. Uncivilized barbarians the lot of them." [Rexxan, Pen is referring to the place you call home here]
"My understanding of your role is that you're pretty much in charge. I'm your administrator and if you will have it, advisor. Everyone else is here of their own volition and are not in anyone but their own employ."
Yngvar can power the black sphere with any conjuration spell, and when he does so, the magic seems to flow from the sphere into the ropes and surrounding gears bringing them to life. Quickly before your eyes, the ropes mend, reset themselves into the gears and within moments the lift arrives at the top in what seems to be pristine condition. The lift is large enough for a team of four horses and a wagon.
Pen will tell you he knows the magic is temporary, the more the lift is used the faster it drains. Depending on the power of the spell caster also has an affect on the operational duration, but even in the worst case it should be good for 20 round trips
(Derek) Tel Longstride AC 19/14/14 -- CMD 17 -- HP 18/18 Wednesday February 8th, 2012 7:46:30 PM
Tel listens almost in awe of the set up of the trading post. "Well as long as my family can establish its business here, I'm game to help however I can. Always fancied myself an adventuring sort." looking back over the jungle where they traveled from he turns back to Pen. "What of those kobolds?" We encountered one that was quite different than the ones that ambushed this p[arty before we met. Any contact with friendly ones?"
(BrunoT) Rexxan Illiek AC 18/11/17 -- CMD 14 -- HP 19/19 Wednesday February 8th, 2012 9:38:52 PM "Hey, c'mon, Pen! Outland is dangerous but not everyone is bad there. Take me for a change, and my family. We were all born there and we are good people. But I understand why you'd feel this way. There is a lot of work to be done until they can be called a civilized bunch... And speaking of aerial assaults, we saw some winged lizards flying around when we got here yesterday. They even threw some rocks at us. They seemed to be very intelligent animals. Are they a common sight in these parts? I wonder if they could be domesticated..."
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 14/14 Wednesday February 8th, 2012 11:03:39 PM
Toregan stays quiet, feeling that his compainioins have already asked the more important questions. However, he does speak up about the water issue. [/b]"Pen? You.... you, uh, you s-said that there... um... that there is a..... a problem w-w-with t-the water? W-where does....... um where does.....it....come ...from?" [/b]Toregan speaks as he finishes his question struggling to not stutter at the cost of speed.
Trading Post at the Lift Thursday February 9th, 2012 9:48:59 AM
Pen chews his lip for a moment and scratches his beard as he thinks about the question of non hostile natives about the jungles, "The Monstrologers claim that not all of them are blood thirsty savages. I have never and nor do I intend to ever leave the protective confines of this Trading Post with the exception of excepting a guildmaster position in Platuae city and so i cannot personally confirm such tales. I can tell you I have heard far more tales as to the savages appetites and warn extreme caution if you venture down that path. I do have multiple accounts and consider it fact that there are numerous factions and tribes of kobolds who seem just as keen on killing each other as they do killing the likes of us."
"The Ptyradons are pretty common unfortunately. They nest in the rocks about the mesa walls and make the lift a more dangerous endevour. When powered by magic, the lift is fast enough. Mannually and they come hunting and yes. They are smart, all of them are. Monstrologers say they can reason, communicate complex solutions and coordinate. The Shadow Realm take them all if some believe they are not only smarter than us, but share a collective conscious in some way. For my opinion, yes they are clever beasts, but still just animals. Don't underestimate though to be sure. More than one big game hunter has left this post and not returned."
"The well taps a large underground aquafer in the central grounds of the Trading Post. I do not know much more than that. I'd be happy to show you since we are done here. First though I would like to give you a tour of the Post and introduce you."
(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 12 -- HP 15/16 Thursday February 9th, 2012 2:00:46 PM
Yngvar takes a closer look at the lift mechanism to see how conjuration magic is effective.
Turning to give Pen an appraising eye, "so we're in charge? I am not surprised that Randolph would have forgotten that detail among the many other discrepancies in what he called a 'briefing'. Yngvar roots around in his pack and pulls out a small journal book and starts taking notes, including a rough sketch of the trading post.
"Were any Ptyradons displaced when the lift was put in? As for your intentions of never leaving the 'safety' of the Trading Post, it would do you well to consider the security and fortification of the post a priority. A safe haven for those located here, and those traveling to and from here should be paramount."
(BrunoT) Rexxan Illiek AC 18/11/17 -- CMD 14 -- HP 19/19 Thursday February 9th, 2012 5:15:40 PM
While walking back to the Trading Post, Rexxan says, "Yes! Your defenses need some beefing up. How many people here can properly use a bow? And what about spears?"
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 14/14 d20+8=24 ; d20+8=19 ; Friday February 10th, 2012 7:41:14 AM
Toregan quiets once more, thinking about how an underground water source could be tainted in such a way. Other than that, he let's the others do the talking Knowledge Nature (+8): 24 Knowledge Geography (+8): 19
Trading Post Grand Tour Friday February 10th, 2012 4:08:19 PM
Yngvar's brief study of the lift does not provide any information other than what Pen has given. The sphere is obviously some type of charge holding magic item, much like a wand or staff. If other spells could power it and precisely how it all works, would require much more study, research and magical aid.
Pen takes the group on a full guided tour of the Trading Post and introduces them to the small pernament residents. (Full information on the Woldipedia under The Trading Post)
"Additional Defenses really? We have towers and a pallisade already, but that is not my area and so if you think it is a good idea I will fully support you. Come to think of it Patterson has been going on about that to. To my my knowledge there was no nesting displacement, but I have only been here for about 1 year now. When it seemed as if the Post would not get erradicated for simply being here, then I was asked to take up the administration of this place. "
"Haggard and Risca are most likely the most skilled. Both were former adventurers. Everyone in The Post is armed. Even Hope owns crossbow and mace. Only a great fool would strike off to this venture without arms and armor I would say."
The talk continues, the residents are more than pleased the party seems intent on staying. Relief seems to be the number one feeling and all are more than happy to do what they can and answer any lingering questions about anything they can
Toregan can think of several possibilities, deliberate of course, but there could be natural reasons as well, such as groundshift releaseing a contaminate to animals moving into the area and polluting it.
(BrunoT) Rexxan Illiek AC 18/11/17 -- CMD 14 -- HP 19/19 Saturday February 11th, 2012 9:07:17 PM "That's a beautiful village you have here, Pen!", Rexxan pauses for a bit, but then continues, "So, who is the usual lift opperator? I mean, and please correct me if I'm wrong, only a mage con do it, right? And it takes a mage to fix it, so...where's this mage?"
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 14/14 Monday February 13th, 2012 8:24:59 AM
Toregan moves along with the group taking any handshakes and trying not to stutter too much when he speaks. He does ask Pen about the water problem again. "So..... Who w-would k-k-know..... the m-most about t-the water s-source?
