ooc-How treacherous does the ledge appear? Could horses make it with a little skill and luck in riding rolls, or does it look ridiculously dangerous?
DM Addison Sunday January 29th, 2012 5:00:28 AM
(OOC: It is Approximately 7 - 11 inches wide. Resulting in a base Acrobatic's DC of 10. It is about 15feet long, making it a DC 15 acrobatics to jump it. Fire is bursting randomly from the lava pit below and smoke is disrupting to vision. Risky, but totally possible. )

Steam erupts from the vents as Tahni shoots jets of water into them at her feet.
(This effectively lowers the Reflex DC to avoid flames by 2 for everyone)
Jarga gets worried he is running on fumes and Tahni notices that if you light the webbing, the dozen zombies stuck in the stuff will also be toast... but that may free up the path to increase the flow.
The Web holds strong, slowing the rush of Zombies to a slow trickle.
Delrid makes an illusionary rocky wall in front of a jet of flame as the Zombies charge towards it. Four run around the corner and charge right through the wall, smashing into Braugh's shield. And the Paladin effectively slashes one to bits.A bout of flame dissolves one Zed to ashes in seconds. If you move, you will incur AOO for the remaining 2... but they can be dispatched easily.
It seems they operate on smell?
Sam suggests crossing the ledge as a group, hoping the zeds will fall to their doom as the group does a balancing act.
To the Left, Devlin sees the valuable ruby-red gem residing before him and a path beyond it is as trecherous with bouts of flame and lava as the path behind him.
The DC to appraise the value of the Ruby Gem is about 12 for a rough estimate, higher results give more accuracy.
(Everyone succeed on DC 8 Reflex or take 8 fire damage)
Sam -- 18/15/14 -- CMD 13 -- HP 23/23 d20+7=20 ; Tuesday January 31st, 2012 9:17:48 PM
Sam easily dodges the flames (reflex 20) and looks back to the rest of the group.
Which way are we going? We could loose a lot of zombies in the fire when the fall off this ledge, but I'm worried that we might also fall in. Any ideas?
Tahni -- AC21/15/17 -- CMD 10 -- HP 32/35 -- SR8 -- Rob C d20+7=16 ; d20+4=5 ; Tuesday January 31st, 2012 11:51:24 PM
Tahni too, dodges the flames this time.
"You've got me, Sam" Tahni calls back "If, and this is a big if, we make it across the ledge I think we'd be safe, or at least be able to nullify their numbers. But getting the ponies and us over safely is the real trick"
Perception: 5. Tahni sees the pony she is riding on :)
Devlin -- 20/15/15 -- CMD 17 -- HP 28/28 d20+3=19 ; d20+9=18 ; Wednesday February 1st, 2012 8:44:03 AM
Devlin eyes the gem noting its worth. He guides shade closer and hops down to grab it. He is back in his saddle in an instant. He dodges through the gouts of flame and meets up with the group. Sam's way may be more treacherous but it will probably be the best way ta destroy more of the Zeds. The other way is just more of what we have been through. The rogue looks at the ever present horde and shakes his head. With so many of them I don't think we can afford ta play safe if we want ta live through this.

Jarga tries to count the number of remaining zombies as a jet of flame bursts up beside him. The heat instantly drenches him with sweat and obscures his view but he manages to avoid getting roasted.
" Would the ledge be safer if we led the horses across rather than riding? "

Tahni -- AC21/15/17 -- CMD 10 -- HP 32/35 -- SR8 -- Rob C Wednesday February 1st, 2012 7:14:11 PM "Most definitely"
Question to DM: How wide is the ledge? Could the horses walk it? I'm just wondering whether another web spell from Delrid (attached to the edge of the ledge, and then to a point on the wall above it may act as a kind of safety barrier to stop people from falling in. Granted, they could be tangled for a round or two if they lost their balance - but they wouldn't be crispy :)

The ledge is approximately 7 - 11 inches wide. Resulting in a base Acrobatic's DC of 10. It is about 15feet long, making it a DC 15 acrobatics to jump it. Fire is bursting randomly from the lava pit below and smoke is disrupting to vision. Risky, but totally possible.
Tahni considers the possibility of creating a web safety net and she and Jarga dismount, leading their respective mares by the reigns.
Starbright huffs and snorts in protest, looking at the ledge warily and stomping her hooves, Sam nearby to provide musical assistance if needed
Do you try to get them to cross the ledge? THat will take a Handle Animal check DC 14 to convince them it will work. If you decide to do this, please roll DC 10 acrobatics check for the horses to balance across, they only get a +2to the roll, and anything else the team can provide....
Zombies run, one, two, three, around the corner, so you can't see how many there could be beyond. You think the original webbing must still be holding if there are so few getting through to harass you.
[i]smash, three slam into Braugh's armor, tackling him, trying to pull him down (Hit CMD 19, Miss 16, and 12! You're grappled)
Another attacks Siv only to be kicked away with mailed boot (Miss AC13)
Sam -- 18/15/14 -- CMD 13 -- HP 23/23 Friday February 3rd, 2012 2:13:25 PM I'll go across first with Jarga. I'll bring an end of a rope with me. Once across, I'll talk everyone else over. After everyone is over, I'll cast grease on the ledge, and we can watch the zombies burn.
Ooc-I plan on using a hero point to lead the way. Once someone gives me an end of a rope, I'm going. You will each get a +2 to your checks with my bardic performance.

Jarga strokes Le Fleur's mane and whispers quietly into her ear:
" We can't stay girl.. "
The sounds of combat and zombie groans behind them make Le Fleur's ears flicker.
" You've been a good girl.." he whispers calmly and warmly, ".. just once more into the breach eh? "
She stamps and snorts and he smiles.
" Together then. "
He starts to slowly move across the ledge and she follows faithfully. The chasm seems to skew in his perception becoming infinitely long and ferociously thin but slowly, inch by inch the end draws nearer. Jarga steps onto safety and starts to turn, his hand still holding Le Fleur's reins when he hears a scraping.
The small slip of dirt and rocks is a vipers hiss, with fangs of terror that bite into his heart. Time slows as he see Le Fleur's back hoof slipping, her rear sliding over the edge, her eyes rolling in fear. Jarga seems locked in that moment, frozen in time; each missed beat of his heart building pressure inside of him.
His ears roar, his chests tightens and When it seems as though his heart would burst from the pressure he looses it in a word the booms across the mountains :
"NO!"
He wraps the rein around his hand and grasps tight,
"No.."
plants his feet with dwarven stubbornness,
"no..."
and looking into her eyes, unwilling to have betrayed her trust, he pulls her forward.
"No!"
She scrabbles, scraping the ledge with her dangling hoof, and in a moment that Jarga would recall for the rest of his days, she finds purchase and stands. He leads her to safety and throws his arms around her neck.
"Good girl."

Lava bursts from the pit below Sam as he balances across the ledge, leading the trusty mule, Jugo, along. The Speak with Animals spell still active, Jugo says, "By go-ho-ho-ly is hot out here!
Smoke exudes from the fiery pit beneath, choking you as Tahni and Starbright tote the invisible Delrid safely across the chasm.
Jarga follows and tiptoes with LeFleur, humming calming notes to the scared mare. She shudders and shakes with each shift of earth and gout of flame about her. In the last few feet, the rocks give way to her hoofs and she scrapes the onyx-floor for grip. The sorcerer expends every muscle in his back pulling her to safety. Her eyes are wide with fear.
BlackAxe shouts, "Aye, across the bridge then. The ones that follow shall meet my axe." The enlarged black-bearded dwarf then swings his blade at a stumbling undead and misses! (nat 1) The axe is buried to its haft and he tries to pull it out, "Bloody, rotten, flesh-walking, death!'

The horde shamble on the other side of the 15foot bridge long bridge. The black smoke arising from the pit below adds a bit of cover. from direct eyesight.
Sam wonders about the remaining hordes ability to terrorize MountainBurrow... How many did you kill anyways?
Tahni looks for the wounded and is quickly granted what she is looking for as Devlin splits his hand open on soiled clothes, hoping to attract the zombies from across the bridge. He sees Shade in the distant north running far away from the zombies... maybe she did find her way out of the mountainous crag.
Sulfur in the air numbs much sense of smell, but the movement of Devlin placing the clothes across the bridge gets the attention of four.

Delrid can assess from his knowledge of local geography (29) and the fact that the sun is rising with the mountain to your South, so you must have ran all along the western flank of Forlorn mountain. . .

Delrid - 12/12/10 - CMD13 - HP 20/29 Wednesday February 15th, 2012 6:39:32 AM OOC: Birds, Swine, the continent of Asia, and now Plants! What doesn't give us lethal flu? Remind me to never leave the house again.
Sorry I've been out of touch lately. I went on vacation, the family got sick, and when we got back the internet in my area was down. You know the old adage: "The FIOS giveth, and the FIOS taketh away."
Delrid feels similarly about the intent. With an understanding of the lay of the land, perhaps a pit stop at MountainBurrow would be appropriate. "I can understand Jarga's desire to see his flame (and his candle) wax instead of wane, and we are still in the process of creating items from our last haul."
"Plus, I feel as though we've accomplished our intended mission. The beasts are entrenched in a lava field, and many have been slain. It looks as though we could all use some rest. I'll set up an enclosed space for us to 'camp' for the night."
With that, Delrid looks for an out of the way alcove in which to cast rope trick. When he finds the right spot, he'll pull his wand of Metamagic: Lesser Extend and double the duration (6 hours total, unless Delrid is 4th level based on the experience accrued, after which the duration will be 8 hours).

Flowing Water [DM Jerry] Friday February 17th, 2012 12:11:51 PM
The zombies advance, though only because the ones in the back are pushing the ones in the front forward. Another few fall off the ledge. One lands on a ledge about 20' down and holds on, though, how he had the brains to decide to hold on is a mystery.
Then about 15' feet further ahead, there is a sound. It was not there a moment ago. Something has changed.
The sound? Flowing Water. Inviting. Pure.
Looking ahead, an opening into the mountain has appeared. Ancient Woldian symbols float in the air above the opening. Glancing inside, a short moss-covered passage leads to an opening beyond. Crystal flowers are growing directly out of the rocks on either side of the moss forming it into a trail.

" If these pretty things are delicate then perhaps we can assume this cave is undisturbed by anything too big and too nasty?"
Sliding Donk, his trusty club from his pack, with his tongue poking out in concentration and his eyes flicking about the cave cautiously, he not too gently nudges a flower.
He taps it lightly with Donk, his trusty club to see how tough it is.

Tally looks at the field of flowers before the group and nods his head, "Indeed, this must be a rift to a plane ... but which one." He pulls out his ruby rose that he uses to channel energy through and compares it to the crystal flowers.
Jarga pokes a crystal flower with his club, its like tapping a rock, solid. As it shakes, glints of light reflect through the prisms of the facets.
As Delrid realizes that there is no local geographic information on this place, he reads the symbols to be a very ancient language, High Woldian. They seem to be runes of Guarding, Teleportation, and Summoning ... Tahni remembers reading stories of the crystalline nature of the Elemental plane of Earth, but most information is about the caves under the Plane of Earth... could this be the surface?
Sam would recall how a rift to the Nine Hells opened up and he rebuked the demon Lord Baldesac from entering the Wold... it wouldn't be a stretch that other rifts can open and close often in the Scab.
You guys tell me.. .have you rested before entering?
Devlin does not see a trap and thinks the way could be clear to proceed... if you dare.
Water flows across beautiful landscapes of citrine and amythist tulips, and emerald blades of grass that snap and crunch under your feet.

OOC: I did post casting the spell and resting, and I would prefer a full complement of spells and hit points (as likely would the rest of the party). Consider us rested unless anyone objects?
Delrid is completely fascinated by the beautiful gems and surreal landscape. Upon completing his sketch he speculates about possible application of the gemstone petals and delicate flora. What could mineral life offer, and could it be harnessed for constructs?
Imagine a tiny crystal smith tending a forge, or a huge crystal smith tending a smelter! Then, think of a dozen crystal workers kneading molten metal with bare hands to shape, finish, and detail beautiful works of metal. Oh, what Delrid might give for such an opportunity!
He will keep his eyes peeled for fauna and their mechanisms...

"I wonder if those crystals would be worth anything..." Tahni wonders to herself. Dwarven greed is a hard trait to break.
---------- OOC: I would prefer to have rested but will go with the majority. If the majority vote for yes, then:
- Tahni casts her healing powers and fully heals everyone. - Assuming Devlin shows Tahni that gem he picked up earlier, she will appraise it for him. Appraise: 31 (+20 oracle Focused Trance), Identify (in case its magical. Spellcraft=+11, Detect Magic + Identify Spell=+10 = a total of 32) - Tahni will attempt to determine if the crystal flowers are worth anything. Knowledge (Dungeoneering) to identify mineral properties: 10 + 20 (oracle Focused Trance) = 30. Appraise: 17 +20 (oracle Focused Trace) = 37. - That uses up a total of 3trances for the day, and leaves her dazed for a total of 10rounds, that she should hopefully then sleep off.
- If we do rest then that also marks the end of another potential 6hrs crafting. Cloak of Resistance +1 for Bruagh Craft DC (+5) + Caster Level (+1) + Missing Spell: Resistance(+5) + Faster Crafting (+5) = DC16. Spellcraft (+11) + Take 10 (+10) = 21. Pass - Item Complete in just under 6hrs

If no one stops Sam, he rides through the gate, with his bow ready.
Ooc-I am all for resting first. Especially if my belt is closer to completion.

After eating a quick meal and sleeping for what seems like half a day in the cramped quarters of the Rope Trick. BlackAxe decides to sleep outside, and RedForge accompanies him to take care of the horses. Tahni takes time to fashion a fine new cloak with a fine golden clasp.
As the morning sun rises soil and ash whip in the landscape behind you, the landscape you leave.
Sam, expecting a trap, leads the way through the portal and the heroes begin to explore and take in their new surroundings.
Jarga's instincts tell him it is probably springtime in wonderland. He looks down at an amethyst lily and smells it... like a sugary flower For there to be seed, there must be pollinators.... OH, under the jewel stamen, the Sorcerer finds tiny many-faceted purple droplets, couldn't be more than a millimeter in diameter. Do you pocket them?
Delrid muses on the more utilitarian side of things... what can these gems be used for. Masonry? Maybe. Golems? if they were magical, or arranged just so and large and valuable. Might need more geometric gems than the flora on the crust of the plane. Might need to mine down. Fauna? No. Oddly.
Tahni looks about, wondering of the value of the gem flora. Certainly any emerald blade of grass could sell for several gold. A prettier flower, a higher price. The facets of the gems are supreme.
The Oracle holds the large Ruby as the group travels, she casts Identify and focuses all her magical energies on it. [i]It glows warm This Ruby connected you to the plane. Its a Planar Weighstone used to bind rifts between dimensions.
Sam, please make perception checks as you travel further into the landscape.

The seemingly natural resources of this area would be worth a fortune if they could be mined/harvested/collected and transported back. "Such a trove could allow for the dwarves to return to their glory back in the Scab" she muses.
"How much did you say you could fit in your bag, Delrid?" she asks with a smile.
She is reluctant to intentionally damage anything nearby, but will pick up anything that appears broken or discarded (a fallen leaf, a broken blade of grass) and hold it up to the light to inspect.
