Well, well, well. A deep subject.
Monday February 13th, 2012 9:12:13 PM

Pen smiles at Rexxan, "Why thank you. Operation of the lift can be done by anyone. That is the beauty of the Terccuri orb. Providing a charge so that it functions? That is the stuff of mages. For the time I have been here, it has been charged 4 times. The last charge didn't last as long as it should have, I think our guild mage who came in the port trip before you skimped on us. I have a hot dandy letter of warning to the guild all set and ready. It not getting delivered anytime soon with the incident now, so i am stuck grumbling about it. As to the water source I know as much as any, All this was set up before any currentr residents signed on board. Gazzi's been here the longest and she..."

Pen is interupted by his son, running at you, waving his arms and shouting something about Patterson and Nudge being dead. The boy is excited beyond measure and other than shouting 'Hurry, Come on, You've got to hurry' There is little that can be gotten from him.

The boy grabs ahold of Pen and drags him for all he's worth towards Gazzy's place, a Herbalist and Alchemist that has set up shop in the Trading Post. An older woman, yet still remarkably stunning, you find Gazzy outside kneeling beside a very still Halfling, Patterson.

As you arrive you find Bast there as well, holding Toth his adopted son who is about 10 years old. The half-elf Anna is lying on a stretcher nearby, but away from the others. Polly is tending to Anna, applying a wet cloth to her forehead. Whilst Patterson and Nudge lie silent in what appears to be obvious discomfort, Anna is more vocal. "Where is that healer? Doesn't she know that I'm dying here! She probably did this to me, no doubt jealous"

Gazzy, the herbalist/alchemist is moving quite quickly between each of the sick. Checking temperatures, administering all kinds of concoctions. She is so busy, perhaps she hasn't noticed the party arrive?
Bast is quick to point this out however.
"What about them? Maybe they can do something?" He continues to hold Toth in his arms, keeping the boy close to him.

Gazzy looks up, wiping sweat from her brow. Though tired, the older elf woman still has startling beauty. "Oh? Sorry, things seem to be a bit out of control here today."
"As you know the water has been an issue of late. I advised everyone to boil it before drinking. But it has now gotten worse, much worse. It will start as it has with the young and the elderly, but soon anyone who drinks the water will get ill, possibly worse. I have some things I can do, but not indefeinately and from what I am seeing continued exposure is simply going to compound it daily."

Yngvar looks down at the sick individuals, "this is a matter for healers. " Turning and heading for the well, Yngvar points to Pen "You. Pen is it? Get me some charcoal and sand, a half barrel of each, and a stout barrel and some planks."

As Yngvar continues towards teh well, he pulls out his journal and starts making notes in it. Idly chewing the end of his quill, he mumbles some figures and jots down some notes. "How many people rely on this well again? Better work a margin..."

Yngvar continues to jot down notes as he stops and stands by the well. Finally he looks up and about, "Where are the supplies I asked for?"

Toregan mentally notes the conditions of the sick and walks up to Gazzy. "Do you have a list of common effect this illness has? If you do, I may be able to help identify it. Also, I was told you have been here the longest. Would you know of any way to get to the water source the well uses? Toregan speech remains clear while he talks to Gazzy, and his attitude shows that he is very concerned about the state of the water.

Forgot to mention this. Bruno, I was looking over Rexxan's sheet, and I saw that you forgot to add the +3 to your trained skills that you put ranks into, which you get for Diplomacy, Sense Motive and Heal. You also have 2 more skill points to distribute. Not sure If you're just not finished with your character sheet yet, or missed that.

OOC: Thanks, Sean! I didn't know about that +3. All fixed.

Rexxan quickly walks around checking the patients and trying to stablish a triage. And while doing this, he says, "Forgive me for meddling with your patients, but you seem to need help. Can you describe the simptoms?

Well, well, well. A deep subject.
Wednesday February 15th, 2012 9:33:27 AM

Pen looks a bit quizzically at Yngvar as he rattles off a bunch of supplies before shrugging grabbing his son and heading towards the general store.

Bast still stands with his boy Toth close to his chest, kissing the sick lad on the forehead and whispering in his ear. The brewer doesn't seem to pay any attention to anything else going on around him. Gazzy coaxes the Toth from his arms and lays him down comfortably in the shade and applies a salve just under his nose and his neck. "There are about 18 of us in all plus yourselves full time here." she answers in a calm voice.

Toregan and Rexxan both move in to assist and get more information. Gazzy provides a weak smile of thanks, exhaustion has set in quite obviously, "The well is the only access I know of to the source. Someone has to go down there, that's all there is to it." She sits back and runs her fingers gently through Toth's wet hair, "Symptoms? Fever, cramps, muscle ache, vomitting, sense of euphoria, light headedness"

She moves to Nudge and opens his mouth slightly, "The males all have a darkened tongue. Anna though shows no signs of this. They could have a parasitic infection, malaria a whole host of possibilities." her voice begins to take on an exasperated tone and it lloks as if she is about to go on, but her eyes flash to the face of Bast and she stops. In a calmer more sure voice she adds, "So I will keep them comfortable while narrowing it down.

Anna looks over at Rexxan, smiles and then doubles up in apparent pain. "Ohhh it hurts, perhaps a REAL healer such as the good man of Domi, OHHHhhhhhhh, oooowwwwwww." she softly moans and looks pleadingly towards Rexxan. Rexxan recognizes her as the woman from the previous night.

It takes some time, but all the supplies Yngvar demanded are gathered and presented to the wizard. Most carried by Haggard, but the dwarf Risca is now on the scene at the Herbalist's porch. He slowly pulls at his greying beard apparently lost on action.

(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 12 -- HP 15/16
Wednesday February 15th, 2012 10:43:10 AM

Yngvar begins directing the placement and loading of the materials, first a frame to hold the barrel upright, with the spigot at the bottom.

With the top of the barrel removed, Yngvar directs that a layer of gravel be placed into the bottom of the barrel, followed by half of the coal, ground into coarse chunks. Topping this off with a layer of sand, Yngvar leaves the top third of the barrel empty.

"Pour the water in the top with one bucket, use another bucket to collect it at the bottom. Don't allow any water to sit in the barrel, just let it drain through. This will last at least a week, and maybe as long as a month before it needs to have the charcoal replaced, and it should remove any toxins in the water, unless magic is a cause..."

Yngvar turns and gazes into the well, his eyes glowing with a feint sheen as he draws the sigil in the air to detect the presence of any magical aura's.

Toregan notes Yngvar's actions and nods. "Good thinking. If its a toxin boiling is won't do anything, but filtering it like that might do the trick. Boil it afterwards just to be safe." Going over the list of symptoms Gazzy listed, Toregan tries to identify what type of illness this could be. He searches through his knowledge of medicine and the natural world to find some hint as to what it could be. Regardless of his memory, he goes back to the inn and when he returns he has his weapons and armor on, as well as his seemingly empty backpack. "Gazzy if you have any empty vials or closeable containers, would you mind if I borrow them? Some samples from deeper in the well might help with figuring out a cure. If you could point out where to get a torch as well, I would appreciate it." After he receives (or doesn't) the vials and gets the torch (He will pay for the torch), he goes to the well opening and tests the rope that is there. He also tries to see just how deep the well shaft is.

Meranus does what he can to help build the frame (Woodworking 15). "Like this, right? A barrel full of rocks and water'd be a burden even for a taur..."

Catching the glow in Yngvar's eyes, Meranus takes a second and wipes some sand from his own.

Well, well, well. A deep subject.
Thursday February 16th, 2012 5:09:33 PM

"Can do better than that" and in a few moments more, Pen returns with 4 torches tucked under his arms. The flames burn right under his beard and the gnome seems to not be bothered at all. "Everburning torches." he explains as he hands them around, "Just tuck them into your belts and your hands remain free for more important things. They also work underwater which is useful for climbing into a well I would suppose."

Gazzy admires the handy work of Yngvars idea and Meranus's implementation. "Astounding, and it will really work? Carcoal, hmmm. Learn a new thing daily I suppose."

Yngvar detects no Magic from the well. The torches are of course and there are other magical auras about as well. Namely emminating from Gazzy, Pen, Haggard, Risca, Nudge, Patterson, Anna and Toth.

Risca the dwarf speaks up, "Ladder won't reach, but we can supply rope from here to Floating City if'n yer headed down."

DM --Gazzy has things in hand. Rexxan can tell she very much knows what she is doing

While checking on Anna, Rexxan takes a little more time than needed. He checks her pulse, touches her abdomen, her neck. He gives her the attention she needs and a little more, but, being a getleman, he never crosses the line.

Toreagn nods his head at Risca. "If you have some to spare, that would be very helpful." He waits for everyone else to prepare to go down into the well before climbing down. While he waits, he ties the rope to any support near the top that he could find, taking his time in making sure the rope would hold. If he has enough time, he'll even tie knots into the rope to make it easier to climb.

(Seems in PF there's no use rope skill, so is it assumed that I just know how to do it successfully?)

Rexxan tends to Anna before bidding her adieu. The half-elf seems very cheery, smiling wide, and batting her eyes at the cleric, before letting out long, loud moans and placing the back of her hand to her forehead. "I only hope my saviour returns before I pass along"

Toregan finds it very easy to fasten a good length of rope around the well. He tests it and is confident that it will hold everyones weight.

Yngvar waits for someone else to go into the well first.

Meranus debats the strength of the rope, and eyeing the smooth sides of the well, he's not sure he could climb better without it.
OOC: You could consider climbing down the sides, however, your friendly DM advises you that the rope will hold your weight without fear of it breaking. And it also lowers your climb DC too

Tel volunteers to climb down first.

"Adventurers, wait!" Pen calls, as his son returns back from the store again carrying a large bundle of backpacks "The Cthonia Trading post wishes you to take these with you. If they can help you help us, then all the better for it"

-------

Everyone receives a free handy haversack! This haversack does not count towards character wealth, and cannot be sold or traded

-------

The party proceed to climb down the rope.

Tel, Meranus, Rexxan, Toregan, and then finally Yngvar

Tel reaches the bottom of the well first, and well, its wet. Not being able to touch the bottom you hold on to the side of the well to keep your ahead above the water line.

Meranus lands with a splash, the water reaching his waist.

Rexxan has begun his descent and has climbed down 60ft.

Before descending, Yngvar makes the wise decision to throw a light down the well.

The stick drops quickly, before hitting the water and floating on the surface shining light about. The light doesn't seem to penetrate the water very far. In fact, the "water" looks very dark and polluted.

Meranus and Tel both notice an uneven section of wall about 3ft above the water line. Dark water seems to be running slowly from there and falling into the water you now stand in.

Meranus also notices a very weird looking creature hiding against the wall of the well in front of him, just above his head.

Tel notices it too, and quickly spots another moving about in the shadows behind Meranus. A rat perhaps? Hang on.... do rats normally have 8 legs, fangs and tentacles?

Whatever they are, they decide they do not like these uninvited guests and attack

=======
Round 1
The creatures are repulsive! Meranus and Tel must make a Fort save vs DC9 or be sickened for 1 round!

The one in front of Meranus launches itself at his face and bites him. The bites fester quickly and Meranus feels the creatures spores start to tingle under his taur skin (Attack vs AC16: 26 = Nat 20. Roll to confirm crit: 19. Hit. Meranus takes 8 points of damage! Meranus must make another Fort save vs DC11 or be entangled!) The unidentified creature now hovers in front of Meranus.

The second creature flies down to attack Tel, but misses (Attack vs AC19: 8 = Miss) It remains hovering in the air with no visible wings.

=======

Rexxan can see exactly what is happening below, however, all Toregan and Yngvar know is that the others seem to be getting attacked by unseen opponents.

Note that with Tel and Meranus at the bottom of the well, there is no more standing room at the bottom.

Toregan and Yngvar - the posts were unclear as to whether you were all descending the rope at the same time, or one at a time. Your call as to whether you are on the rope above Rexxan, or on the surface.

Rexxan climbs down the rope at double pace, and reaches down to touch Meranus, granting the taur stronger resistances

Toregan follows at speed behind Rexxan on the rope

Meranus shrugs off the feelings of nausea and the tingling sensation in his face dies away. The puny creature in front of him is too nimble though, and his horn attack falls short

Whether the water, the smell, the darkness, or just plain old bad luck, neither hero seems to have much success with their attacks as Tel also has little luck striking out at the tiny creatures - his sword missing the one above his head by quite a bit

Yngvar calls down to see what is going on. Pen stands nearby, a worried expression starting to show "Is everything ok? Have you found the problem with the water?"

======
Round 2

Rexxan and Toregan can both now clearly see the creatures that are attacking their friends. The creatures truly are hideous to behold. It's like a rat and an octopus had a baby, and then beat that baby with an ugly stick. From above, you also notice what looks to be a plant growing from the top of their backs. Rexxan and Toregan must make a Fort save vs DC9 or be sickened for 1 round!

The creatures let out hisses and attack again

The one that had been by Meranus's head (before he stepped away) is now also at Rexxan's foot level, and manages to sink its fangs into his calf (No shield or dex bonus while hanging from the rope. Attack vs AC15: 16 = Hit. Rexxan takes 4pts damage and must make a 2nd save. Fort save vs DC11 or be entangled!)

The other creature - seemingly irritated by Tel's swing - hisses and attacks the halfling again (No shield bonus while hanging on the side of the well, but will retain Dex bonus. Attack vs AC18: 19 = Hit. Tel takes 3pts damage and must make a Fort save vs DC11 or be entangled!)

======

Current locations (wow, fighting in 3-dimensions can get tricky)
- The well is 15ft wide
- Tel and Meranus are at the bottom of the well.
- Tel can't touch the bottom so is hanging on to the side of the well.
- Meranus stands next to him and takes up most of the space at the bottom.
- Rexxan is hanging from the rope on the other side of the well, about 10ft up (just above Meranus's head).
- Toregan is right above Rexxan
- Yngvar is up top.
- Critter#1 is flying by Rexxan's feet
- Critter#2 is flying above Tel and alongside Meranus

And yes, weird as it may sound, Fort saves or get entagled. Hmm... I wonder what these creatures are? :)

Tel: Just as an fyi, I've asked a question on the rules board regarding your size bonus when getting attacked by creatures smaller than you. Until ruled otherwise you still have it - and I'm pretty sure you do :)

Yngvar descends into the well, after a puzzled look from Pen.

Toregan, though repulsed by the creatures, stomachs their sight well. The ranger recalls hearing tales of such creatures inhabiting parts of the Crying Woods he was forbidden as a child from entering. What were they called again? Ah yes, Cythnigots

Rexxan offers a divine blessing to the party, bolstering the party's attacks.

Tel lashes out with his sword, making contact with the flying rodent-thing. Unfortunately it shows no signs of damage whatsoever.

Meranus too, takes advantage of his position goring the creature by Rexxan's feet. Though his horn connects, the damage done doesn't seem to correlate to the force he connected with.

With Meranus and Tel at the bottom of the well, there is not enough space for anyone else. Any actions will need to be taken elsewhere... Given the tight spaces though, everyone currently benefits from flanking bonuses

Cythnigot#1 flying by Rexxan's feet closes in for yet another bite (Attack vs AC15: 21 = Hit. Rexxan takes 3pts damage and must make another save. Fort save vs DC11 or be entangled!)

Cythnigot#2 flying by Tel's head appears distracted by the halfling previous attack, and misses its attack (Attack vs AC18: 12 = Miss!)

Toregan identifies the creatures to the party, which does little to comfort Tel. His shortsword connects with the nearby creature but again does no visible damage.

Rexxan calls upon the gods to heal the party, and he quickly feels much better. With his free arm, he draws his hammer ready to deliver some holy head smashing.

Meranus illustrates why no creature should turn its back to a taur in combat, as he delivers a solid blow with his horn to the monster by Rexxan's feet. His horn pierces straight through it's body, and it falls to the water, slowly sinking. (Thankyou for explaining the attacks & bonuses you have used. Completely agree with them. Having never DM'd a Minotaur before, I'm still coming to grips with their unique rules)

Yngvar shows why it's always handy to have a mage around, delivering a magic missile with as much power as he can muster. It strikes the critter above Tel with unerring accuracy but alas no signs of damage.

Hold on a sec there Meranus....

Toregan snags one of the dead monsters as a souveneir, as well as taking a sample of the "water" flowing directly out of the hole in the side of the well. The sample appears thicker and darker than the water in the well. More concentrated, perhaps?

Rexxan laments not being able to smite anything so far today. BUT the day is still early...

Tel is the first to make it to the wall, and examines the loose rocks. They seem to block the way any further for the party, but water is clearly pouring from behind them and under the rocks. Tel moves a few, which has a kind of domino effect on the rest. The rock pile just tumbles, sending some into the well behind you. They are very easy to move too. Your knowledge of things natural tell you that it's not like your usual rubble where everything tends to "clump". This seems an almost intentional pile. The sides and roof of what is now turning out to be a tunnel are unusually smooth too. However this passage was formed, it wasn't with pick and shovel. With the rocks out of the way, you find you are able to crawl a short way (5ft or so) before gradually appearing in a much larger passageway. Easily 10ft high and wide enough for you to stand three-abreast. It may even be a cavern, judging by the curviture of the walls. Again, all smooth. If Meranus doesn't mind shuffling on his stomach through the hole, he could fit comfortably in this area too. The "water" seems to make its path right down the middle.

Yngvar waits atop the rope for the rest of the party to decide what they are doing. Honestly, how did this lot make it past puberty without assistance?

Does the rest of the party follow behind Tel? Perception checks please if you do.

Ugh, what's that smell? - (DM RobC)
Wednesday February 29th, 2012 8:51:03 PM

The short passageway has indeed opened up to a small cavern. Small from this position anyway. The lights you have brought provide low light out the 40ft, and you still can't see the otherside of this cavern. There is also a very strong smell of decay - that, or Meranus has recently eaten beans. Yngvar hopes it was the former.

The walls that were smooth by the tunnel entrance gradually change in appearance as the walls progress further around you. The further away from the hole you look, the more "normal" and "rockish" the walls look.

Meranus finds he can stand at full height, and the further in he looks, the higher the cavern seems to grow.

Toregan debates the construction of the tunnel and has his bow drawn and ready.

Tel looks for tracks, but can find none at all around the passageway.

Rexxan raises his shield to provide light to the party, but ends up blocking most of his vision too.

The cavern, though pungent, is very quiet. You can hear the sound of water trickling, as it makes its way through the middle of the cavern and out through the hole behind you.

Toregan Highlight to display spoiler: {
Your keen senses detect more. You can cleary hear differents sounds to the water. It sounds like it is running and flowing quite freely further away. A lot more freely that the thickish water beneath your feet. You also swear you heard a small splash far ahead. Probably nothing though.

He closes his eyes and concentrates on listening to the water up ahead. "Also, expect more of those cythnigots. C1 takes offence to Meranus's gore, and retaliates with a bite to his cheek (Attack vs AC16: 16 = Hit. Meranus takes 6 pts damage and must make a fort save vs DC11 or be entangled)

C2 looks to be bleeding profusely, but that doesn't stop it attacking Meranus, hitting him on the shoulder (Attack vs AC16: 16 = Hit. Meranus takes 7 pts damage and must make another fort save vs DC11 or be entangled)

C3 tries to sink its teeth into Rexxan, but the cleric easily brushes it aside with his shield (Attack vs AC18: 7 = Nat1 = Miss)

C4 goes straight for Tel, its teeth creating a bleeding wound on the halflings forehead (Attack vs AC19: 25 = Hit. Tel takes 5 pts damage and must a fort save vs DC11 or be entangled)

C5 sees Yngvar and heads straight at him. This is the first time that the wizard has seen one of these creatures up close before, and they truly are disgusting (Attack vs AC17: 19 = Hit. Yngvar takes 2 pts damage and must make two saves. The first fort save vs DC9 or be sickened for 1 round. The second fort save vs DC11 or be entangled)

C1 and C2 are flanked
C1: 4dmg
C2: 8dmg

Round 2 Map
-------
Fyi - This battle was planned without knowing what the party makeup would be. You're actually not doing too badly, though I am a little disappointed I didn't get to warp a didgeridoo ;)

Remember that flanking can be your friend, particularly against creatures with no reach

(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 17/14/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 14/14  d20+4=21 ; d20+4=13 ; d6+2=7 ; d6+1=6 ;
Saturday March 3rd, 2012 11:37:19 AM

(That's the plan DM! Flank and total them)
Toregan sees the creature go after Tel and he quickly moves to distract it. He lunges with his rapier and swings with his axe. His rapier hits the monstrosity and even manages to wound it. His axe on the other hand, just barely misses the creature, whistling through the air where it used to be.

Attack w/Rapier (+4): 21
Attack w/Handaxe (+4): 13
Damage w/Rapier (1d6+2): 7
(Ignore the last roll.)

(Derek) Tel Longstride AC 19/14/14 -- CMD 17 -- HP 10/18  d20+5=20 ;
Saturday March 3rd, 2012 11:48:14 AM

Tel grimaces at teh attack and bounds out of the range of the flailing tentacles. Moving back from his attacker. "Lets see if my slings works any better." he adds as he sheaths his sword.

fort +5

(Josh) Meranus Stormhorn AC 16/12/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 10/25, Entangled  d20+3=7 ; d20+3=15 ; d20+6=8 ; d20+4=18 ; d8+6=9 ; d6=6 ;
Saturday March 3rd, 2012 5:52:39 PM

Meranus is unable to tag a cythnigotas it presses on him (8 to hit), and feels a strange sensation as the first abomination's bite enters his skin. This displeases the taur. "What Imod made perfect, you shall NOT DEFILE!" Even as his arm starts to stiffen, the minotaur reintroduces his opponent to his horns (18 to hit, 15 damage on C1)

(Once I replace the didgeridoo, it only comes out against armed opponents, alas. Also, those rolls... wow. if I had just been able to afford a chain shirt....)

(BrunoT) Rexxan Illiek AC 18/11/17 -- CMD 14 -- HP 16/19  d6=3 ; d20+4=11 ; d8+4=8 ;
Saturday March 3rd, 2012 8:11:12 PM

Rexxan asks Domi's help one more time healing him and his friends. Then he swings his warhammer at the creature in front of him.

OOC: Second Channel Energy of the day. Six left. Everyone, add 3 hit points.

[Channel Energy]
[Warhammer against C3 +4]
[Warhammer damage +3] Sorry, I hit the wrong option, it should be 7 points of damage.

(Josh) Meranus Stormhorn AC 16/12/13 -- CMD 18 -- HP 11/26, Entangled  d20+4=14 ; d6+6=7 ; d6=4 ;
Saturday March 3rd, 2012 11:05:24 PM

(Forgot to roll potential AoO, like we did for the lizardfolk. Since it might kill one, it really matters. My apologies for forgetting that precedent. To hit: 14. Damage: 11)

(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 12 -- HP 16/16  d20+1=2 ; d20+1=17 ; d20-6=-5 ;

Yngvar gags at the stench of the cythnigot, but manages to avoid being entangled. He takes a step south and defensively attempts to distract the cythnigot between him and Rexxan.

Fort save vs DC9=2, fail
Fort save vs DC11=17-2, saved (accounting for sickened)
Aid Another vs DC10=-5, failed, still threatens for flanking vs C2 and C3 if Rexxan moves.
AC +2 until next round.

Tuesday March 6th, 2012 5:11:22 AM

Toregan pierces the skin of the creature hovering in the air before him, whilst Tel backs away from it.

Meranus feels the spores erupt from his skin, entangling him. Fortunately his strong neck is able to guide his head (and horn) into the offending creature. The cythnigot falls from the air.

Rexxan channels energy to heal his comrades, grateful that Domi's blessing allows him to only heal allies (Note that channelling energy is a standard action. You do not get to attack as well, unless I am missing something)

Yngvar, though repulsed by the creatures, does his best to continue providing support to Meranus.
-----
Round 3

C2 goes to take another bite from Meranus and grazes the taur's arm (Attack vs AC14: 22 = Hit. Meranus takes 4 pts damage)

C3 seems to have found a chicnk in Rexxan's defenses, avoiding his shield and scratching his forearm (Attack vs AC18: 25 = Hit. Rexxan takes 3 pts damage and must a fort save vs DC11 or be entangled)

C4 is no longer within reach of Tel, so moves to attack Toregan instead, but is pushed back by the ranger's axe (Attack vs AC17: 12 = Miss)

C5 follows after the wizard, moving 5ft closer to Yngvar and attacking. It manages to scratch at the wizards face (Attack vs AC12: 23 = Hit. Yngvar takes 4 pts damage and must make a fort save vs DC11 or be entangled)

C1: Dead
C2: Flanked
C3: Flanked
C4: 2dmg
C5: Healthy and hungry

Things are looking grim.....

Continueing to circle around the creature, Toregan lashes out once more with both his weapons. This time his axe manages to give the little beast a nice little gash across its side.

(OOC: Tiny creatures that must move into an opponents square to attack provoke attacks of opportunity as they leave a threatened square. So wouldn't that mean that every time they move into a square to attack someone can make an AoO? I also see that they can't flank or get AoO if they are one square from an opponent due to their reach restricitions.)

Yngvar brushes off the attack of the cythnigot, steps back another foot and defensively strikes at the creature attacking Rexxan knowing that his attack will most likely be ineffectual, he hopes it will provide enough distraction for Rexxan to be able to attack it.

"Squish them! My spells are useless against these fungal spawn!"

Fort vs DC 11=11 saved
Aid Another (Rexxan) vs DC 10=13 Rexxan gets +2 on his next attack. (die should have only been -4)

DM Robc: Yeah, I wasn't sure if the 5ft step rule trumped the Tiny rule or not. Happy to allow AoOs on any of these creatures that move into your square. And none of them have had any flanking bonuses given to them, my rolls as DM are just much better than my rolls as a player :)

"Wrong one, spore-for-brains!" Meranus yells at the beast attacking the poor defensless Yngvar, a moment before his horns make a more eloquent argument (16 to hit, 13 damage). It's the first time Meranus has actually heard a charlatan admit to being useless. Things must be getting desperate.... Meranus pulls back and looks at the opponent, the gleam in his eye matching the sheen on his horns...

(I have been getting so lucky on these attack rolls... but I forgot about Entangle's -4 penalty to dex, which means Ac-2...but you didn't. Nice. )[/i]

OOC1: Whops! I forgot it's Pathfinder not D&D 4th edition where healing is a minor action. Sorry!

With the creature's tentacles wrapping around his shield arm, Rexxan swings his hammer at it one more time.

OOC2: Ignore this if the entangled arm is the one with the hammer, unless there is no problem attacking with it.

As the creature moves in to attack, Toregan pierces its skin with his rapier. He then swings both weapons, inflicting more damage on the creature. (Rolled AoO for you, and would you believe I confirmed the crit with your rapier?)

Yngvar sidesteps, and causes enough of a distraction to aid Rexxan. (You didn't post coordinates for your 5ft step, so I assume you have moved to I13, in order to provide flanking bonuses to both Rexxan and Meranus)

Rexxan misses as the creature approaches him, but follows up with a hit upside-the-head with his hammer (The entanglement has no effect whatsoever on your arm for attacking. I just try and add flavour text to the attacks)

Tel lets fly a direct hit with a sling-bullet, that does not seem to harm the cythnigot in any way.

Meranus starts to feel less confident, but that doesn't stop him drawing considerable blood with his attack, as he carefully backs away.

Round 4
C2 is bleeding, but flies after Meranus, eager to down the Taur. But Meraunus was waiting and quickly gores the cythnigot again with an AoO. Still flying, it attacks Meranus, scratching his skin (Attack vs AC14: 24 = Hit. Meranus takes 2pts damage)

C3 flies at Rexxan again, but the clerics shield once again holds true, blocking the incoming attack (Attack vs AC16: 10 = Miss)

C4 may have taken a few too many blows, as when it goes to bite Toregan it misses widely (Attack vs AC17: 14 = Miss)

C5 follows after Yngvar, but fails to land a bite (Attack vs AC14: 8 = Miss. Provokes an AoO though!). The creature growls, frustrated that it is yet to feed.

C1: dead
C2: 13dmg... ready to drop

----------
In other news, a new player be joining us soon .... me :) Duty calls in another game that requires some DM help, so I'm heading over there. In return, I asked whether I could join this party with a character of my own. I'm looking forward to standing side-by-side with Meranus, while Rexxan cures my ills, so I guess I should do my best not to kill anyone before then :)

(Thank you glorious DM for assisting me in killing you minions! Also I just realized something I should have realized when Erza brought up the AoO issue. With the 5-ft step option, I get 3 attacks per round. Two for full attack, and one for AoO when it moves in to continue attacking me because it has no reach, or when it move to target someone else because it has to leave a threatened square to get to them. Sweet!)

Toregan continues his rain of blows upon the cythnigot, doing all he can to kill the beast. As he circles around it he lashes out again, landing an ineffectual blow with his rapier.

Meranus sighs, asking plaintively, "Just how many of these things are there anyway?" He takes a few paces to his left (to FG12/13, avoiding stepping on the beastie), and tries to draw the attention of the loose monster that was trying to bite Yngvar (14 to hit C5, 15 damage). He then just stares at the two abominations, his glare shifting from one petal-pustule to the next, daring them to try (AoO: 16 to hit, 12 damage).

Toregan's aim continues to be true with his rapier, but alas no visible damage is done to the cythnigot.

Tel takes up ranged attacks, but his sling bullet misses its mark as the cythnigot drops its head to allow the projectile to fly overhead.

Rexxan delivers some much needed healing to the party, again thankful that he can be selective as to who benefits from Domi's blessing.

Mernaus steps up to give Yngvar some relief, causing massive damage to the cythnigot from behind.

Round 5
C2 is still bleeding heavily, but does its best to attack Yngvar, almost scalping the wizard (Attack vs AC16: 20 = Hit. Yngvar takes 4pts damage but gets to make an AoO)

C3 flies at Rexxan again, but the clerics defenses are again remarkable, blocking the creatures bite with his shield (Attack vs AC18: 16 = Miss)

C4 seems to be getting angry and Toregan keeps batting at it. It pursues him and lands an attack (Attack vs AC17: 20 = Hit. Toregan takes 5pts damage)

C5 sees its own innards start to fall out, and turns to face Meranus. Opening its jaws it moves to attack the taur, but winds up empaled on his horn, before sliding off to the ground and landing with a 'squish' (Meranus' AoO hits and knocks it out)

Meh, forget the map. There's two of them left and I think everyone is now aware of the best tactics (ie: make them come to you, or, flank them)

Meranus proves once again that being bigger is often better, skewering the cythnigot that had been pestering Yngvar

Rexxan manages to do some damage to one of the others, but the third one remains untouched, as both Tel and Toregan miss their intended target (noone was providing flanking so the attack roll just wasn't high enough)
