"Just when you think you have seen all the Scab has to offer..." Tahni says in amazement, without completing her sentence. Flowers, grass, water and crystals. Quite a difference to the harsh, volcanic landscape behind them. "Do you want to take point, Devlin?"

"I wonder if those crystals would be worth anything..." Tahni wonders to herself. Dwarven greed is a hard trait to break.

----------
OOC: I would prefer to have rested but will go with the majority. If the majority vote for yes, then:

- Tahni casts her healing powers and fully heals everyone.
- Assuming Devlin shows Tahni that gem he picked up earlier, she will appraise it for him. Appraise: 31 (+20 oracle Focused Trance), Identify (in case its magical. Spellcraft=+11, Detect Magic + Identify Spell=+10 = a total of 32)
- Tahni will attempt to determine if the crystal flowers are worth anything. Knowledge (Dungeoneering) to identify mineral properties: 10 + 20 (oracle Focused Trance) = 30. Appraise: 17 +20 (oracle Focused Trace) = 37.
- That uses up a total of 3trances for the day, and leaves her dazed for a total of 10rounds, that she should hopefully then sleep off.

- If we do rest then that also marks the end of another potential 6hrs crafting.
Cloak of Resistance +1 for Bruagh
Craft DC (+5) + Caster Level (+1) + Missing Spell: Resistance(+5) + Faster Crafting (+5) = DC16.
Spellcraft (+11) + Take 10 (+10) = 21. Pass - Item Complete in just under 6hrs

Sam stares into the gate as if in a trance. This could be a trap. We might be walking into the demons' plane. I almost hope we are.

"I'm coming for you.", Sam utters out loud, still focused forward. "I will lead the way. After a quick observation of my surroundings, I'll hopefully be able to peek back here and wave you all in."

If no one stops Sam, he rides through the gate, with his bow ready.

Ooc-I am all for resting first. Especially if my belt is closer to completion.

After eating a quick meal and sleeping for what seems like half a day in the cramped quarters of the Rope Trick. BlackAxe decides to sleep outside, and RedForge accompanies him to take care of the horses. Tahni takes time to fashion a fine new cloak with a fine golden clasp.

As the morning sun rises soil and ash whip in the landscape behind you, the landscape you leave.

Sam, expecting a trap, leads the way through the portal and the heroes begin to explore and take in their new surroundings.

Jarga's instincts tell him it is probably springtime in wonderland. He looks down at an amethyst lily and smells it... like a sugary flower
For there to be seed, there must be pollinators.... OH, under the jewel stamen, the Sorcerer finds tiny many-faceted purple droplets, couldn't be more than a millimeter in diameter. Do you pocket them?

Delrid muses on the more utilitarian side of things... what can these gems be used for.
Masonry? Maybe. Golems? if they were magical, or arranged just so and large and valuable. Might need more geometric gems than the flora on the crust of the plane. Might need to mine down.
Fauna? No. Oddly.

Tahni looks about, wondering of the value of the gem flora. Certainly any emerald blade of grass could sell for several gold. A prettier flower, a higher price. The facets of the gems are supreme.

The Oracle holds the large Ruby as the group travels, she casts Identify[/b] and focuses all her magical energies on it.
[i]It glows warm

This Ruby connected you to the plane. Its a Planar Weighstone used to bind rifts between dimensions.

Sam, please make perception checks as you travel further into the landscape.

Ahead you see large brown gems, a dark Citrine, with branches and sharp emerald blades. A gem tree!
More gem trees. A gem... forest?

Tahni hands Bruagh his completed cloak before looking about. If only time wasn't of the essence. The seemingly natural resources of this area would be worth a fortune if they could be mined/harvested/collected and transported back. "Such a trove could allow for the dwarves to return to their glory back in the Scab" she muses.

"How much did you say you could fit in your bag, Delrid?" she asks with a smile.

She is reluctant to intentionally damage anything nearby, but will pick up anything that appears broken or discarded (a fallen leaf, a broken blade of grass) and hold it up to the light to inspect.

"I can probably take around 50 pounds of gems total, but beyond that I might damage the lining. The exterior is chain mail, but the sharp gems may tear the satin interior." Delrid responds to Tahni.

The new dimension is very impressive. Delrid wishes he could get a comprehend languages spell or linguistics skill to understand the High Woldian glyphs. We do have a bard.

"Sam, can you read this stuff?" pointing to the glyphs. He is curious about potential challenges returning home...

OOC: I called Zach a few days ago, and life just sounds hectic.

Delrid moves toward the heart of the group, and approaches the forest with hesitance. On his mind are the following:
1) Return to the Wold - Do we have an exit strategy?
2) Sustenance - Delrid has a ring, but does anyone else? Can we eat crystal and gem?
3) Threat assessment - Do we have a shatter spell capability if we need it? Can we handle swarms of crystal bees or avoid gribblies out to destroy us?

He's more on the "Craftsman" side of "Adventuring Craftsman"...

Alemi, protect us all in this strange place. If you have guided us to this crystalline wonderland, let it be for edification and enlightenment. Perhaps I fear too much what I do not understand."

Per my email...

C'mon guys - the level of posting lately in The Forged has not been great. I think we can be especially proud that there were no posts yesterday at all :(

The Week Ahead...
I'm sure we can turn this slump around though.  All I'm asking for is one week of perfect posting. Everybody spending 5mins a day to make a post and keep the game going.  If Jerry is reading this (and something tells me he is... Because I CCd him) then he might be so impressed by the change he might even grant a small token, nay, boon to the party.

Rules & Etiquette....
Gentle reminder that if you know you won't be able to post on a given day that you line someone up to post on your behalf. This goes for players, DMs ands ADMs alike. I'm not afraid to get out a +5 Boot of Ass Whoopin' this week for any non posts.

Finally...
If anyone has any feedback, observations or ideas on what could be done to improve posting levels then please speak up :)

Ooc- I'm not trying to be abrasive or difficult, but I don't see the point of posting "checking in". If the DM or a PC hasn't posted something for me to reply to, I generally keep checking on my phone throughout the day until it happens.

Rob C: Completely agree Sam. You might have noticed I haven't done any of those "checking in" things of late either. What I'm asking for is "game posts" over the next week. But it will take all of us to make that happen.

Flowing Water [DM Jerry]
Tuesday February 28th, 2012 12:38:30 PM

The forest is beautiful, even breathtaking. Lit from within, the crystals glow and reflect creating wonder in every heart.

The trail continues and winds left and right as the passage widens into a cave. The sound of water is closer now. The smell of it is pure--heavenly.

Then a voice. Sparkling and crystalline like the cave speaks softly.

"Do not be alarmed. I will not harm you. Welcome to my domain. I am Facet."

Fortitude vs Poison : 15 (Fail)

Ooc : On the topic of posting. I'm guilty this week and to be honest it's because I'm a little dispirited. For me it's about rhythm; there seems to be a good run of posts, then a really average patch and it's disheartening to check continually only to be eventually disappointed with a brief or half-effort post. Wow and You Talk Alot Too [DM Jerry]
Wednesday February 29th, 2012 1:59:50 PM

A beautiful fey lady walks into view on the trail. Clear and almost transparent, she is beautiful beyond imagining. Stout of form like a dwarf, she also has that gnomish gleam in her eye, which is full of mischief. She looks like a living crystal woman, if such a thing could ever exist!

"Greetings to you too Tahni. You are safe here and not trespassing. I opened the way for you to be here. I've been watching and admiring how mortals can be so heroic in their short time upon the Wold. You were being hounded by undead and have some great needs upon your hearts. Those needs called out to me and I will help if you will allow me." Tahni's diplomacy skill seems to be having his desired effects.

Facet takes Jarga's finger and kisses it. It sparkles for a second and then it is healed. "Sometimes, even a fey lord, or demon as the dwarves like to call my kind needs protection. I hope you weren't in much pain, Master Jarga."

Then she stops short. The verbosity of Delrid simply makes her open her mouth into an "O" of surprise. "Wow, and you talk alot too." She takes Delrid's arm and proceeds to give him the tour as she leads them forward. "Do you know alot about crystals Delrid? These are truly alive and not just sculptures. They grow in response to my mood and thoughts. I do not control them. I can, but usually choose to give them freedom. I believe in freedom. I was kept here against my will by the gods for quite a long time and now the stronger of the Fey try to manipulate me to their side. It is trying."

Sam has not heard of this particular creature before, but remembers his training that many unique "features of nature" are tied to beings that the dwarves call "demon" and the gnomes call "fey lords." Perhaps they are some of both?

As you round the final corner, you see a large cave with all sorts of crystal animals and plants arranged perfectly around the centerpiece, a waterfall from the back side of the cave through to the middle of the chamber. The stream thus formed, traverses the room and then dives into darkness near the opposite wall.

"So, some sit, relax, and rest. Tell me of your travails and why you are in such a horrible fiery place. I am eternally curious!"

------------

Will send an email when I can explaining the situation with Sir Addison, which he can elaborate on if he wishes. :)

A number of Facets words stick in Tahni's mind, but the ones she focuses on are: "kept against her will by the gods". "She said she 'was' kept here against her will. That means she's probably not here against her will anymore. The Fey King was imprisoned before being released by the gods. I wonder if they have something in common?"

Coming back from her thoughts, Tahni hears Sam speak to the woman in a strange language. She has heard him speak it before and they have had words on the matter. "Please don't make things worse, Sam!" she cringes slightly.

"Hmm... if she has been watching us, then she could already be aware of our past actions and testing our honesty" The ever suspicious and cautious Tahni decides that honesty may still be the best policy.

"Very kind of you to bring us here safely" Tahni says graciously to the woman with a quick sideways glace to Sam, before taking a seat "We fear an evil is growing in the Scab. The town of Riddleport looks to be its first victim; its inhabitants all suddenly becoming undead. We fear the Duergar may be in league with an outfit known as The Indigo Brotherhood. That, I suppose, is the crux of our problems." the dwarven woman looks around before continuing "Do you invite many guests to your realm? Not seeing any other beings nearby, I imagine this realm would get quite lonely." There is genuine concern in her voice.

Delrid is intoxicated with curiosity. His adult life has been dedicated to the pursuit of craftsmanship, it's perfection, and automation. Delrid hopes one day to create homonculi and golems capable of executing the blueprints of his wildest dreams, and before him sits a creature capable of amazing creations seemingly at an emotional whim.

"Oh Facet, the beings in your realm are undeniably incredible. What souls or life forces power your more sentient organisms? The Woldsblood transports souls which I think can be harnessed for such a purpose, but do you sacrifice fragments of your own being? If they are spawned spontaneously, then should I assume the latter? Are you attuned to the shadow realm in any way?"

Delrid does a very poor job of containing his excitement, and even poorer still waiting for others...

Facet cringes and almost rolls into a ball upon hearing the abyssmal language coming from Sam. All the plants and animals in the place begin tinkling and some actually begin to show fracture lines. She doesn't answer him. A crystal bunny hops away and then falls to one side as its left leg shatters.

After her initial panic, Facet's form changes into that of a glowing blue diamond. This form then races away and goes through the waterfall, leaving you alone as the abyssmal words echo through the cave growing in intensity.

Tinkling.

Fracturing.

Breaking.

then a soft voice....

AAAAAND CRAFT TIME - - - GO!!!

Delrid is moderately frustrated with Sam for destroying the incredible creatures. The broken bunny leg just looks pathetic. Delrid attempts to re-attach the leg, and does nearly his best work.

Craft Stonemason = 35 if that doesn't help, Delrid will look to others for ideas.

Delrid is more frustrated with Sam still that Facet (and her knowledge) have gone. No choice now but to finish Sam's Belt of Dwarvenkind. However, this is the final burst of effort to complete the belt, and Delrid can return to his own projects (Pearls of Power, Vambrace).

Craft Metalworking = 31. Delrid takes pride in the fit, form, and function of the belt. The perfectly square black metal panels create a smooth, shadowy, dynamic and robust contrast to the gold filigree and appointments. He hopes Sam can hold his head high not just amongst Dwarves, but in any group with such a belt. Delrid is most proud of the clasp, with the head of the Gold Dragon nestling perfectly into a socket of wings and floor of claws. The soft black felt and satin liner should rest gently on the hips of his small companion, helping him bear the sturdy and stoic metal belt with ease and comfort.

Delrid is very pleased, and by the time he finishes polishing the last tooth of the dragon, Delrid has forgotten his anger completely. He welcomes Sam as a closer friend than ever, and anxiously hopes for his approval.

"Sam, I know we started as perhaps unsettled companions and even rivals. I have made for you the Belt of Dwarvenkind you requested. I have put my blood, sweat, tears and most importantly my Dwarven Pride into this work. Please accept it as my gift to you, and accept me as your friend. As long as you should wear this, think of me as your brother." Delrid has only once exposed himself emotionally, and it nearly destroyed him. Perhaps this expression will allow the kind hands of Alemi to begin healing that wound...

Surprisingly, Sam face shows relief more than remorse for driving away Facet. (now in common toward the waterfall) "I'm sorry for hurting you Facet. I meant no offense."

Sam then turns to the group. "I know that what I did seemed like a bad move, but I did it for a reason. She referred to herself as a demon. If she would have replied casually in Abbysal, I would be more afraid of her intentions and who she might be allied with. Instead she was turned away by my words. I'm still worried, but not as much now."

Once seated with the group, Sam watches eagerly as Delrid finishes his belt. He smiles as Delrid hands him his new prize and upon hearing his words, tears up. "Thank you so much for this wondrous gift. As I have no family, you and the others are all I have. I am honored to be your brother."

Sam reaches into his pack and pulls out a gift for Delrid. It isn't much, but I want you to have it."

Sam hands Delrid a prize he won at the giggling ghost. (carved figure of a happy-looking gnome that stands about three inches tall (magic phrase will activate a Mending cantrip)

"I have never seen such a reaction to casual words before. What did you say, Sam?!?" Tahni is shocked by not only Facet's reaction, but the reaction the realm seems to have when Abyssal is spoken. "I think we should endevour not to cause any more harm to this place. Everything appears to have been quite harmonious until we arrived"

Finding a small patch near the waterfall, Tahni will search her pack for something and place it gently on the ground. A small crystal prism, that even in dim light throws rainbows all around it (Won in the GG - Awarded by Kathy). "Please accept this gift as a token of apology. I agree with what you did Sam, I'm just amazed at its..... efficiency. Out of habit he grabs a snack from backpack and munches on it before realizing hes not hungry at all. Guess the ring has kicked in. He thinks to himself.

So what our next step, do we wait for Facet to re-manifest or should we find our way out of here. Do you think she would be able to help us get either to Drakesmead or Mountainburrow? He looks to the more academic of the group when he asks these questions.

Jarga watches in dismay as Sam's strange words shatter the serenity and sow chaos into the calm.

He stares angrily at the gnome, dissatisfied with his response. He pokes Sam in the chest and with eyes blazing.

" That's little enough apology from you Master Gnome! You wield your tongue loosely rending this place, hurting our host and you don't think to use it to ease the darkness that you've loosed? The one best poised to bring a calming, soothing song and you sit on your arse and hand out trinkets? Pfah!"

He stabs his finger in the direction of Tahni and Delrid :

" At least these two had some courtesy! "

Devlin sighs before standing and facing Jarga. And how would you react had our "host" replied casually in the same tongue? Just because something is beautiful does not mean it is not evil. Have you already forgotten the daemon that attempted to take Tahni and Sam's souls? It was Sam who saved both of them by rebuking the daemon in that same tongue. Are you not going to wield fire anymore because you might set a plant alight? Or do you plan to make amends with everything you scorch with your powers? We are not here to fight with each other we are here to figure out our next step. If you have something constructive to say by all means say it. But until we are under safer and less stressful conditions lets try to keep from criticizing each other.

Mountainburrows and Drakesmeads [DM Jerry]
Friday March 2nd, 2012 10:24:12 AM

After about an hour, the blue diamond emerges from the waterfall and its tears start the healing process in the cave. At first, the more simple forms sprout and bloom. Then the more complicated plant forms and finally, the animals begin to emerge from corners and hidden places. Finally, the blue diamond blinds everyone with light and when your eyes clear, Facet has returned to her female form.

"Aww Sam. Your love and caring for your friends helped heal me. I forgive you."

She turns to Delrid. "May I see the belt, Delrid?" She picks up one of her walking fronds and sets it upon the belt petting it. Soon, it embeds himself into the belt. "If I can ever be of service, let me know. Coax out the frond and release it. It will quickly return to me and let me know if your travail."

"Now, food and rest. I think I have discerned what is good for you to eat and drink. While you refresh yourselves, please tell me of these Mountainburrows and Drakesmeads. Why do you protect the one and take the other?"

"Ooh, may I see that miniature gnome? That is very interesting!"

Then she is totally distracted again as a small child would be running over to look at the rainbow crystal gift from Tahni. "Do you dwarfgnomes always give gifts to show affection. I love this idea! And rainbows!" She lifts it giggling. "Interesting, it has the same creator as the miniature gnome!"

Stroking it, the rainbow effect grows and she adds, "I never thought of adding rainbow colors!" And she is off touching everything so that it gives off rainbow hues.

A concern touches her face as you mention the NPCs. "Oh! No!" I thought some of them were the undead chasing you. They didn't have the same energy as you and I didn't look closely enough! She waves her hand and the NPCs start trudging in, some very injured.

"You're right, I should of phrased it more constructively... you missed my point though.

Say a strange dog rushes you on the road, leaping up on you. You're startled and unsure and shout it off or slap its snout. If it bares its fangs and goes for the jugular you've made a good choice to defend yourself. If the thing cringes, looks surprised and scared, and you realise that so far it's done nothing but wag its tail you might want to give it a pat."

I do understand and respect your point Jarga, but you need to remember one thing. Dogs rarely have deceptive natures. They present themselves as they are. Unfamiliar creatures who refer to themselves as demons are a whole other matter.

(To Facet) I appreciate your forgiveness, but am still curious about you and your realm. You spoke of being imprisoned by the gods. Where are you originally from and have you always assumed this form? And what of these living crystals? Have they always been this way?

We shouldn't forget that they pose the single greatest threat to MountainBurrow and perhaps all dwarves in the Scab. I am not sure we can afford to wait, but perhaps our host may be able to aid us - either with a vision as to what may be happening there, or perhaps expedited travel?"

With the rapport that Tahni hopes she has been developing with Facet, she will enquire as to whether it is possible to find out what is going on back in The Scab.

Many Places at Once [DM Jerry]
Monday March 5th, 2012 1:19:21 PM

Facet listens carefully to the ongoing debate between the party members. She seems to be studying the dynamic within the group.

She addresses Sam's question. "During what you call the 4th age, travel was not allowed by the gods through The Scab. The interior of the Continent of Yrth was closed off. The Gods punished both awakened fey and demon alike for tempting the Noble Races from the worship of the gods by making us guard and hold vigil to prevent anyone from crossing the Scab into the Ashlands beyond. I was one of those so punished. Our nature was changed at that time as well to facilitate our ability to perform our duties.

"After the destruction and recreation of the Wold, we were freed by the gods as the Scab was now open to travel. Most of us remain in The Scab. The dwarves call us Demon. The Gnomes and elves call us Fey. We are both and neither. Fhorge is the most powerful of us. He gathers those he can ally with by every means possible to support him in controlling the Scab to take vengeance upon these same gods.

"What do I want? I want to learn about mortals. I am curious."

She turns to Tahni. "I am right here. I can be dangerous, if I chose. I usually choose not to get violent. I feel guilty afterwards."

To Delrid she says, "I can slow time in this place. Complete your crafting if you can. What else do you need to help you. Picture it in your mind and I will create it."

One of the NPCs, a gruff old dwarf named Hegni, raises his hand to Tahni's query and collapses with many scratches and burns.

She addresses Sam and Tahni. "What danger faces Mountainburrow? Undead or Duergar? How do you know this? Why do you need to head to Drakesmead? It seems you are needed in many places at once."

Devlin looks at the weary group nodding at Braugh. I agree we should regroup before we try to take Drakesmead. But perhaps with Facets help we can scout the fortress before going back to Mountainburrow. Turning he faces the groups host and smiles. I appreciate you allowing us to enter your realm and the help you are offering us. This place is wondrous especially to our kind. Pardon my bluntness but at what price does your help come, what is it you want from us?

I'm sorry to hear of your situation Facet. At least your realm and you are beautiful. In short, we have faced various adversaries while providing refugees safe passage to Mountainburrow. Once there, the citizens asked that we help take back their territory of Drakesmead from the Duergar. We have been stretched thin though out this journey.

Sam pauses to let others speak with Facet and then angles to take her up on her offer. I was inspired by a cavalier that we encountered in our travels. I'm interested in attaining a loyal mount. One that is stealthy and agile; a wolf perhaps. Could you possibly create one for me?

Delrid is very appreciative of the offer for assistance. With a flash he displays his Vambrace of Intervention. He pulls his Vambrace of Arcane Vitality schematics from his "prototype" workbook. He shows the seven pearls, slated to become pearls of power, and begins explaining:

"The Duergar can disappear at a whim, and leave our party baffled and ineffective. Therefore, I have studied the glitterdust spell. I have purchased materials, unguents, and components to convert these seven pearls into arcane fuel. The Vambrace of Arcane Vitality is a mundane fixture for the pearls, but functions like a large inductor for arcane power.

The Vambrace of Intervention functions like a capacitor, dissipating the power through my command. Together, the two vambraces and my Annulus of Arcane Attunement create a natural circuit that enhances my casting ability. More importantly, the magic flows through me to the items I create, maximizing the effectiveness of my crafting.

This Vambrace of Arcane Vitality can also harness this magical flow as I rest, recharging the Pearls of Power. My pearls of power will allow me to tap into the arcane reserves, strengthening my casting throughout the day, extending my impact and that of my party.

Unfortunately, I can only work on one of these pearls a day. The rules of this Wold seem strangely restrictive at times when creating magic items, but you know this far better than I!"

Delrid is extremely excited to divulge his plans to such a gifted artist, and very much looks forward to sharing the intricacies of his plan.

DM only: Highlight to display spoiler: {
Secretly he is thinking loudly in the direction of Facet.

"Pardon my actions lady Facet, I mean no offence, but rather wanted to converse with you in private and this.." he wiggled his nose "...is a good ruse."

He continues :

" Drakesmeade, from what I gather was the home of many dwarves, in particular Blackaxe over there because there were unexpectedly routed from their home by the Duergar. With Riddlepoint destroyed by undead, which still wander in some number, and demonic forces treading the Scab it's become increasingly important for those mortals that consider themselves to be good folk to find safe haven for kin and refugees. I believe they plan to retake their ancestral home to this end and we aim to help them as, to me at least it seems a noble goal. "

He pauses for a moment and continues thinking.

" It has been difficult though.. we came to you presence trying to deflect a great horde of zombies from Riddleport, an hidden city of gnomes. They too are good folk and we're not sure if we've done enough to deflect the dead marching towards them.

Also there has been an encounter or too with a demon ... who was nothing like you, foul, terrifying and murderous. I worry that the success of the Deurgar, the destruction of Riddleport and the walking dead may all related to the same underlying evil... but I am new to the party and the details are a little... hazy.

The demon we encountered, I can think his name if it would not distress you? Perhaps it might give you a better understanding of our situation?

I am here to help my new friends... but I also seek someone. My brother. A cold, kinslayer who murder my family in their sleep. I seek to avenge them and will travel with these folk until I am led to him. I know in my heart that we'll face evil and if there's evil power to be found I know my brother will seek it.

Whilst some others are slow to trust, your actions have matched your words and I appreciate the help you've given us so far.

Our problems are merely mortal but I would be grateful if you'd give us your opinion on them. It's always good to have another perspective."

Jarga appears to have finished seeking nasal treasures.

Delrid will also ask a selfish question: "As you can slow time, are you familiar with the Stylus of the Ishgara, and the creation of a time-extending cradle? It allows a craftsman, such as myself, to work with greater speed and intensity. I thought perhaps you might be able to grant similar boons.

I know the necessary haste of our action poses stark contrast to the patience required for quality craftsmanship. Could you help me balance the two? I have already found ways to extend my own wakeful time to the maximum practical, but I have no desire to delay my traveling companions."

Assuming she does not glow with Evil he will choose to trust her.

"Facet, you are correct in that we do seem to be needed in many places. Knowing what is DrakesMeade will great improve our chances of success and also determine where we should go from here. A Boon [DM Jerry]
Tuesday March 6th, 2012 12:34:09 PM

Facet smiles at Devlin having already answered his question. She wonders how long mortals remember things. She knows they don't live forever like her.

She thinks about Sam's words for a bit and then explains it like this. "I have never made anything that big, Sam. The larger they are the easier it is for them to break."

She just stares in wonder at Delrid's words as she doesn't understand any of it. "Why do you approach all this from a mechanical standpoint? Why not just....create?"

Facet watches Tahni healing the injured man and when he is finished, heals him the rest of the way with a kiss on the cheek.

She moves a set of plants to a nearby corner and says, "Tahni, you may set up shop here in this location. I will create a table and any other shapes that you picture in your mind, but they will be crystal. The larger the piece, the weaker it is."

Then she stares at Jarga's antics. "Why do you pull things out of your head?" Then more seriously. "You purposely tried to get the undead to chase you away from that other town? How noble! Yes, tell me the name of these demons that you faced. She nods at the rest of his words, but does not comment on them.

She smiles at Delrid and comments, "I have not heard of this Stylus of magic. However, I can slow time within my realm. I do not know exactly the speed as time doesn't mean as much to me as it evidently does to you. Do you always worry about time like this."

I can help with one thing. I will offer you a boon. Choose which situation you wish to know more about and I will allow you to see it from here in present time and future. I can show you a town, a brother, a source of undead, any one thing. Then I will have to withdraw and rest. Fhorge siphons my power and I cannot remain active for long."

------------

--With Addison or Rob's permission, Tahni, you may do some crafting while within Facet's realm assuming you have the reagents, etc. As to how much, that also is up to them.

Jarga coughs and says, winking slyly " I was just scratching! "

He then continues his discussion with Facet, aloud this time :

" We did indeed lead the undead from a march that would take them to the Gnome fortress Mountainburrow, sorry I think I said Riddleport before, which is where they were coming from. A grim task; it's one thing to see good folk die, it's quite another to see them rise again and be forced to strike then down. "

He pauses for a moment, reflecting on the carnage and the gnashing, rotting dead.

" A task I am glad we've found respite from, noble as it may have been."

Jarga changes topics to one no less dark.

"The demon that attacked us prior to us reaching Mountainburrow...It's name was..."

Jarga pauses allowing time for any person or fey to interrupt...

"Baldesac."

To the others he suggests how the boon may be used :

" I still seek my brother, my friends, and the chance to gain fresh insight as to where the filthy kinslayer hides is ... well, I yearn for it more than anything.... but my quest should not be at the expense of the safety of all the good folk that inhabit these parts. It pains me, but I suggest we learn what we can of Drakesmeade to reclaim it as a place of safety, or the necromancer or demon that raises our dead and sends them against us. Once we've agreed then I believe we should craft here as long as we can, without time passing and then return to the tavern, I mean city of Mountainburrow and plan our strike."

(Mainly to Jarga) "I understand your need to use the boon for personal reasons, as I have similar needs. As much as I agree that both of our issues are a top priority for us as individuals, the need of the many might be a better use of this precious gift. We have an opportunity to either view Mountainburrow's or Drakesmeade's present and future."

Sam pauses and ponders for a short moment.

(To the group) "I think most of us feel that Mountainburrow is relatively safe. I think that we should use this boon to view Drakesmeade. We would know what is happening now and also how our actions might pan out. Maybe we'll see the troops marching towards Mountainburrow and know to rush there to warn them of the impending assault. This is a rare tactical edge against a foe. We should not waste this opportunity."

Delrid - 12/12/10 - CMD13 - HP 29/29  d20+19=23 ;
Wednesday March 7th, 2012 1:24:19 PM

As Facet asks about simply "creating", Delrid uses his Create Gear ability to brandish a mock-up of the Vambrace of Arcane Vitality. Craft Metalworking Check = 23. He addresses the question directly, "I can create through magic, but only as a diligent student. I cannot simply call this item into being. And, within a minute, it is gone again. To create anything permanent, I must re-shape the materials around me to perform the required functions."

As the group is discussing the Boon, "I apologize to those with personal needs, but I agree with the utilitarian approach. The greatest good for the greatest number is an analysis of DrakesMeade."

Delrid nods in agreement at the wise words of Devlin. It's great to have such a confident leader, and such a sound tactical mind at the helm. It is also interesting, he only seeks to accomplish tasks effectively without inflating his ego. Such a combination makes him perfect for the job.

Delrid brandishes a few sketchbooks, a protractor, a square, and several writing implements. "Ready!"

==========

Do we have time for Delrid to finish his queue of crafting? If the rest of the party doesn't mind, and Facet is willing to help (and alter the time continuum), we could just skip the minutae. Delrid can take 10 on any craft check and succeed with the DCs of the items.

However, if Rob and Addison have other plans, that's fine with me. In the following order:

Brooch of Shielding
Cloak of Resistance +2
Pearl of Power (2)
Pearl of Power (2)
Pearl of Power (2)
Pearl of Power (1)
Pearl of Power (1)
Pearl of Power (1)
Pearl of Power (1)

All items take one day to complete...

Reverberations [DM Jerry]
Wednesday March 7th, 2012 2:07:27 PM

"Baldesac. I'm not sure. I may know him by another name. Let me consult with a friend about this demon."

"Very well," Facet intones, concerning what they wish to see. She being singing. However, it is more like she is causing all the crystals in the walls to reverberate causing something kinda similar but totally unlike being inside a large bell with tiny bells and cymbals inside. Amazing.

"I will prepare your vision. It will take some time. Finish your crafting and rest."

---------

--You guys will have to email Addison and Rob about how much crafting they will allow since officially we're between modules.

--I'll have to email them as well about a couple of things.

Jarga -- HP 17/18 -- CMD 11 --- AC 10/11/10
Wednesday March 7th, 2012 6:16:26 PM

Jarga feels a little hollow inside. He eats a Christmas cookie and retires to his bedroll to sleep. He dreams of a beautiful crystalline flame; a twisting statue of yellow and red stone that looks like a twisting flicker of fire suspended it time.

Sweat beads Jarga's brow and he moans gently as the dream changes; darkness seeps into the edges as the flame is slowly covered in a growing frost. Eventually the colours fade completely and it appears to become a giant icicle, dagger like and evil.

He feels like he is falling and then there is darkness as he returns to heavier sleep.

Sam -- 18/15/14 -- CMD 13 -- HP 23/23  d20+8=26 ;
Wednesday March 7th, 2012 9:39:16 PM

Sam watches as Facet sings and affects the crystals around them. He is then struck by an odd memory. Maybe not a memory, but an invading thought. The music reminds him of his childhood. A childhood that has remained nothing more than a mystery for as long as he can remember. He can almost hear his mother singing a gnomish lullaby to the same tune. As he stares at Facet, her image is blurred by his own tears. He wipes the tears away with his scarf taken earlier from the dark priest.

Sam quietly begins humming the lullaby along with Facet's conjuring. The two tunes are not exact, but harmonize well together. Sam continues to hum louder now as a warm feeling fills his heart. Anyone nearby can clearly hear the harmony of the two songs. (perform:sing=26)

Maybe my family is out there somewhere, waiting for my return.

Sam smiles at his new family and prepares to go to sleep.

"What are you talking about, Bruagh? I'm not going anywhere. I believe Facet was merely extending an offer to make use of her services. I have no intention of leaving you. The party, that is" Brushing her hair behind her ear, she quickly excuses herself and checking that there are no more wounded souls, she will take time to being crafting items for Jarga.

==========
*sniff* Must. Not. Metagame.

Zach R: Facet said, "Tahni, you may set up shop here in this location. I will create a table and any other shapes that you picture in your mind, but they will be crystal. The larger the piece, the weaker it is." Set up shop sounds very permanent. I'm sorry, but that read as a come stay with me forever because I am lonely speech. Didn't think it was Meta'ing. Sorry.

"Sounds good brother. I'll monitor troop movements and give my opinion afterwards." Bruagh couldn't help but notice that over the past few weeks, Devlin had really stepped up as the reluctant leader. I can't think of anyone better.

Beware! [DM Jerry]
Thursday March 8th, 2012 12:06:46 PM

Soon, between the materials our crafters carry and the workstation that Facet creates, the crafting begins.

Her singing articulates with it. However, something wonderful happens when Facet and Sam's music combines. A magical aura is created that can be seen by everyone. And hearts are set free. No more battle fatigue. Your overwhelming worries, even the ones you have buried deep within are worked through and relieved. You feel ready--willing to face the future with no regrets.

It is an amazing feeling.

Then the song ends. However, the feeling and the articulation of the plants and animals in the area keep the aura active.

Then she says, "I have communicated with a friend. My friend's name is Geyser. It informs me that Baldesac is an actual demon, not one of us who came from fey or demon and were changed by the gods. Baldesac is evil through and through and from the deepest pits of Hell. Beware of him!

"BEWARE!"

---------

--We have Addison and Rob's blessing to craft as long as you have the gold and the crafting skills, reagents, etc. that may be needed.

Delrid - 12/12/10 - CMD13 - HP 29/29
Thursday March 8th, 2012 3:32:45 PM

Delrid appreciates quality. The quality of the music from Sam and Facet helps him ease his worried mind, then focus on his true passion: crafting. Delrid was a reluctant adventurer, feeling as though Alemi set this path before him. Now, unfettered by the pressures of adventure, he can be content to express himself through creation. He sets to work only pausing for the two hour blocks of rest he absolutely cannot avoid, devoting 22 hours each day to both magical and mundane works.

=======
Delrid can create one item from the list below each day equivalent, in order.

Brooch of Shielding
Cloak of Resistance +2
Pearl of Power (2)
Pearl of Power (2)

Sam clenches the jeweled scepter tightly in both hands as Facet warns of Baldesac's power. Anger fills Sam's soul as he remembers the children assaulted by the evil demon and his minions. He looks down at his black scarf and remembers his oath. Never again!

We appreciate the warning Facet, but I can not heed it. I am planning on forming a group to hunt down and destroy his kind. Baldesac and I will meet again. When that happens...he will be destroyed.

"What could have drawn his attention to the Scab, I wonder"

-----

As the day goes on Devlin seeks out Delrid with a few questions. I was wondering how much you new about alchemy? I have heard of some interesting things you can use it for. I also think the Darkbloods might be using it for things like the device we encountered a while back that blew up a bridge. Think you can show me what you know?

Devlin also approaches Sam with the same questions about alchemy.

Jarga awakens to the sound of crafting and hears Facets warning. He is grateful for her warning, though he realises they've learned nothing new.. except that there may be other friendly fey folk that may have spiritual / physical connections to the Scab; if Geyser is as curious and helpful as Facet then one day there might be an alliance between the fey and mortals against the demons that plague the land.

He ponders this quietly, not commenting on Sam's quest, and awaits the completion of crafting by the others or Facet's boon.

Tahni too, takes the time to complete all of her outstanding crafting as well.

Taking 10 on her spellcraft checks, Tahni can hit DC21 every time. Per the spreadsheet, the highest DC she needs to hit is 21, so all items done.

For Jarga:

For Tahni

Delrid notices the journey through the waterfall seems to take significantly longer than expected. In fact, he feels as though over a week has passed while the water runs over him. Facet mentioned how the temporal distortion of her realm allowed for his crafting, but the warp to view DrakesMeade is incredible. Individual water droplets seem to take hours to fall from above to his bald pate.

He infers the passage through the waterfall is the boundary of the temporal shift, and that once through the water time will return to normal...

Pictures in Crystals - (DM RobC)
Tuesday March 20th, 2012 1:53:29 AM

Rolls up DM sleeves...

Passing through the waterfall, the party find themselves inside a small, domed crystal chamber. There is enough room for the party to fit in, with a few feet to spare. The walls, ceiling, and floor all made of smooth, polished crystal. In the centre, Facet hovers in her crystal form.

The sound of the waterfall behind you suddenly stops. The waterfall too has become a solid sheet of crystal. There is now no way out.

"Behold" you hear Facet whisper.

Colours form and change on the walls surrounding the party - the ceiling and floor too. It looks like... the Scab? It looks so real it feels like you are there. The image envelopes you. Surrounded on all sides as if you were standing in a rocky outcrop in the Scab right now.

The picture begins to move. The images change. The land of the Scab passes by as a blur. It's like you have been strapped to the head of an arrow and aimed directly at Drakesmead. Like you are moving at a thousand miles an hour in a straight line.

The movement stops very suddenly.

You stand at the base of Drakesmead. The fortress walls tower above you. The nearby duergar guards seem oblivious to your presense. Their adamantine weapons polished black. Though you can see them talking and see things that should make a noise, the images you see are silent.

The picture begins to change.

The party seem to be rapidly gaining altitude and you can see Drakesmead from above. There are a large number of duergar inside the walls. You can see prisoners locked in cages to be pecked by vultures. Slaves too. Men? No, dwarven slaves! Dwarven men and women labouring under the watch of a bulky duergar - immediately recognised by Bruagh as the vile Humphrey. The dwarves are performing a number of tasks. Carrying barrels and crates to and from wagons, and moving and emptying what look to be minecarts full of rocks. The dwarves look very emancipated. One looks to have upset Humphrey, as the fighter picks up the lean dwarf in both hands, and then slams the dwarf down quickly, back first, across his broad knee. The dwarf slumps to the ground.

The picture begins to change.

Though your position remains the same, the world seems to be moving faster now. You note the guards leaving Drakesmead, the routes they take and their return. Their patrols run like clockwork. Precisely timed, thorough, and well manned. Approaching unnoticed would be difficult. All the while, the dwarf slaves labour on. Wagons come and go. The number of duergar inside though could be a problem. There are thousands of them.

The picture begins to change.

Time seems to have returned to its normal rate, but the party seems to be falling at an alarming speed. Whereas you would normally abruptly stop when hitting the ground, this time the image keeps going as if you are tunneling straight down. Through the earth until the picture final stops moving. Sam may not notice anything, but those with dwarven darkvision can see that Facet has stopped the image in a large cave. Perhaps tunnel? There are no lights, or wooden braces. The ground is uneven, and littered with stalagmites. Could this be a tunnel the duergar are unaware of?

The picture begins to change.

Circling underneath Drakesmead, Facet shows you another two possible entry tunnels that appear untouched by the duergar. One to the south west, and one to the south east. Both slightly narrower than the larger tunnel previously shown that ran due south.

The picture begins to change

The party "float" back up above the surface, and begin movement towards the largest and central building of Drakesmead. You approach the walls and are about to see what lies inside

The picture begins to change

Flames. Fire all around.

The pictures stop and vanish. The waterfall resumes its normal running.

Facet retakes her humanoid form. "Something stopped me from looking inside. How curious." she says idly "I hope you found what you were looking for."

The party gather outside the waterfall.

Devlin steps from the waterfall and shakes water from his hair. The beads of water turns to crystals as they fall making a chiming sound as they hit the floor. He is lost in concentration attempting to remember the details of the caverns below DrakesMead. He sits down and begins to sketch a few things things onto some of the paper Delrid provided.

Write down as much as you can lads any detail may be the one that helps us defeat the dark bloods.

When he has scoured his mind for information Devlin walks over to Facet. Your help has been invaluable ta us. Its cost far outweighs any information we can give you but I will do my best to give you some insight into the mortal races. The rogue settles in and tells Facet of his family history and his childhood. He tries to impress on her that even though a mortal may come from bad circumstances its the decisions he or she makes that shapes and molds who they will become.

With your permission we will stay here long enough ta rest and make plans before we leave your domain. I am afraid the city we came from will fear us lost and send out parties ta search for us.

To the group he says. Get the notes together and get some rest, we make plans after we rest and than we move. We need ta reestablish contact with MountainBurrow and resupply. Than we head for DrakesMead, counsel support be damned. I'm not going ta sit on my hands when good Dwarven folk are enslaved and a once proud Dwarven fortress sits in the hands of the enemy.

A smoldering anger is clearly evident on Bruagh's face. The last time such an anger was on his face he executed the pirate that stabbed the unarmed woman. He says nothing but the rage is readily apparent. He jots down notes and then hands them to Delvin. In a barely audible voice the paladin speaks to Tahni, though loud enough the others can here it. "That dwarf's death, and any other that Humphrey commits or has committed is on my conscious. His blood and others is on my hand. I swear it now in the name of Domi, that dark-bloods life is forfeit. Those Dwarves will be freed or I will die trying."

Sam walks out of the chamber with the group. Ideas race through his head. What is the best way to get in? How do we overcome their numbers? Devlin and Bruagh's comments pull Sam from his deep thought.

To Devlin-"We need to make plans now while the vision is still fresh in our minds. Your brethren are enslaved and dying. We need to plan, get word of our plan to Mountainburrow if necessary, and act." (Thought we all had rested status from my awesome singing)

To all-"It is clear that we are outnumbered and that our enemy has a superior position which is carefully watched and guarded. We obviously need to take advantage of the tunnel entrances. We need to, at the minimum rescue our kin...This belt must be working! I'm speaking as if I'm a dwarf! Anyway, where was I? Oh yes. We need to find a way to save the dwarves and if possible, take the keep. I have developed three plans for the group's consideration." Sam briefly pauses and begins again.

"Plan number 1 uses pure stealth. We sneak our way through the tunnels, quietly killing sentinels in our path and free the dwarves when the dark bloods are least active. This, in my opinion is my most difficult plan to accomplish."

"Plan number 2 uses deception. We find a way to disguise ourselves as the enemy, whether by costume of magic, infiltrate the base by the front door or the tunnels, and free the dwarves. I speak undercommon fluently and can be quite deceptive if need be. For this plan to work, as in plan number 1, nothing can go wrong or we will be in big trouble."

"Plan number three is the big one. And by one, I don't mean plan number one. I mean three. Plan number one was the other one. I said one twice in the same sentence! That was kind of funny..." Sam smiles at the group who mirrors back with blank stares of annoyance and impatience. His smile vanishes and he continues.

"Plan number 3 requires Mountainburrow's complete involvement. They would gather their forces and march to Drakesmead. Once within its sight, they would set camp and prepare to invade. I would stay with that group and with the aid of my jeweled scepter, project my voice to draw out much of their forces to meet us in battle. Meanwhile, smaller forces lead by the rest of our group would infiltrate the tunnels and seize the fort from within. This plan requires more coordination between groups, but could allow us to save the dwarves and take back Drakesmead." Sam looks at the faces of his friends to read signs of approval or lack thereof.

"Well...that's all I have."

OOC: Playing Tahni as an NPC now, so will be trying to remove her from any sort of group decisions where possible. And Sam is correct - everyone is already fully healed, rested and spells prepped.

"It is not your fault, Bruagh, but mine. I was the one who believed people capable of change, and as a result, Humphrey still lives today to kill again" Tahni laments her previous decision to take duergar prisoners "The next time we see him I want your axe to find his neck" she then turns quickly to walk away from the paladin, wiping a tear from her face.

Meanwhile Devlin sets about noting down as much as he can now while it is still fresh. Tahni offers paper and ink for sketching and does what she can to assist in terms of the knowledge dump as well "You seem to be the best with a pen, Sam, perhaps your sketches will be better" Tahni then enters her oracle trance, recalling as much information as she can about the images shown by Facet.

Facet listens intently as Devlin tries to explain about the mortal races and telling his life history. She cocks her head as if trying to understand what the dwarf is telling her "You have funny names for things" she says with a giggle. Looking around, she picks up four crystal pebbles. Holding them in one open hand, she touches the pebbles one by one with a finger from her other hand. The pebbles pop like bubbles. The first releasing a small crystal butterfly that quickly takes flight, the second a small snail (which Facet aids to the groud) and the third just releases more bubbles. "The pebbles look the same, even though what is inside them is different. It doesn't make one better or worse than another. That's what you mean isn't it?" she smiles and gives the fourth pebble to Devlin "Do not worry about the colour of your blood, Devlin Dealbreaker. You will be what you were meant to be." Facet then merrily starts skipping along after the butterfly. (OOC: The pebble is just a small gem pebble)

Sam - the strategist - provides the party with the three options he believes are available to the party, and those of MountainBurrow. Each option presents its own risks. What will the party choose?

Jarga recommences picking his nose.

Delrid - 12/12/10 - CMD13 - HP 29/29

Delrid is very wary of the amount of opponents in the fortress. Direct challenge to that many defenders seems foolish. However, the desire to free slaves is real. He is concerned about increasing the. Umber of their party, or making multiple advances, or strengthening the attack.

"Sam, I like your idea of disguising yourself the most. Perhaps we could play the part of 'slaves and slaver' to get close enough to free our kinsmen? Unless we have significantly more combatants, now is not the time for direct assault."

"Perhaps we could accomplish the following:

1) Disguise Sam as one of them
2) Take down a patrol or two on the way in through the unknown tunnel
3) Bring weapons and healing for the slaves
4) Free the slaves & retreat via the previously cleared path
5) Gather a legitimate assault force to reclaim the fortress

"Does that sound reasonable to anyone else?"

"Yes, I suppose I assumed the gnomes would not be willing to support. Our last council meeting did not seem promising. If we could garner their support, I might think our course of action only builds. We still infiltrate as 'slave and slaver' but continue with weapons and an internal assault utilizing freed captives, synchronized with an attack from above."

Delrid would be in favor of only one attack launched simultaneously from both inside and outside DrakesMeade, but the gnomes were very much against risking their own forces...

Sam diligently works with Tahni and Devlin to organize notes and rough sketches of maps as other members of the group discuss plan possibilities.

How about a modified plan of one and two? We rely on stealth to get us as far as possible and than switch over ta the ruse of slavers/slaves. I can assist Sam with the bluff if needed. Devlin looks to the group before continuing. Are we going back ta mountainburrow first our are we ready for drakesmead?

Where plans are being made - (DM RobC)

The group continue discussions on how best to proceed.

Approaching via the tunnels seems to be the general concensus, relying on as much stealth as possible. But what to do then? Free the slaves and retreat? Coordinate and time an assault with Mountainburrow forces at the same time?

"What about the soldiers with us now?" Tahni asks, looking around at the other dwarves still with the party - BlackAxe, Tally, and a couple of other soldiers.

"If it would help you..." Facet interjects. She's still tracking the butterfly with her eyes and doesn't appear to be giving you her full attention "... I can send those ones back to a place different to where you wish to go"

Jarga looks for something else to pick

What will the party do?

Sam -- 18/15/14 -- CMD 13 -- HP 23/23
Thursday March 22nd, 2012 8:22:55 AM

To Blackaxe- "Tactically, I think plan 3 has the best chance of working, but also have the feeling that it will be impossible to achieve. The citizens of Mountainburrow want us to retake Darkesmead, but don't seem to want to help us do it. We can do our best to save your people."

Sam reaches into his bag and pulls out his marble shaving kit and locket (both won at the GG). "Tally. Can you please gives these to Miss Tina and her new husband as a wedding gift when you see them."

"I agree with Devlin that the ruse is the best remaining plan. I fear that if we stealth and are discovered, the ruse will be harder to pull off because of the higher level of suspicion we would face. It might be harder to pull off, but it does at least give us a back-up for failure of plan 1. So how do we mask our appearance and my good nature (alignment)?"

ooc-Sam is ready to go for Drakesmead when everyone else is ready.
