The mumbling behind Harvest does not distract her but is an annoyance. Even the slightest sound can carry a ways in the narrow tunnel. Good thing the twists and turns do muffle sounds pretty good.
However, also due to these twists and turns, Peza cannot keep both the party and Barratore in view. Shell have to choose one or the other.
While the others settle down for an uneasy wait, Harvest inestigates the ground in front of her.
Harvest Eyes only: Highlight to display spoiler: { It only takes a second of scraping the dirt to find a straw mat, it's edge near your toes. You can lift the edge some and you find a wood plank beneath. A thin layer of topsoil covers a straw mat which covers wood planking that spans the width of the tunnel and as far as your pole arm can reach. My guess is that your polearm gives you 10' reach. The wood planking does not seem very thick even though there are goblinoid tracks that cross it. Note: attemping to lift a section of wood planking will require a STR check, as you have some of the weight of the mat and dirt to deal with.}

"It is a pit, Gerox Shale." So reports Harvest Moon. "There are narrow boards the span the pit at the center. These may be walked across if one knows where they are. To either side of the boards there is only a straw mat that holds a thin layer of dirt. If one strays to either side of the boards, one will fall through."
"I think though, heavy people will not be able to cross the boards. What should we do? Should we turn back here?"

"The rest of us can wait here and defend the spot. Should be relatively good defensible position should we get company."

Lemick, stuck in the middle of the group waits, passing information before the front and rear as necessary. Awaiting the resulting de-trapping of the trap, or length of the trap.
"Any idea on the weight needed to set the trap off?
CO-DM JonathanT - Spider Tunnel Thrill Ride: 10 coupons Thursday April 5th, 2012 11:14:06 PM Harvest informs the group of her discovery of a pit trap. The crossing will be tricky at best. Knowing a little bit about how pit traps work, she deduces that heavy people probably won't even make it along the boards. Although it appears, by the tracks, that lighter ones have a chance. She asks for direction from the leader, but volunteers to tie a rope around herself and attempt the crossing with a stout person holding on to the other end of the rope.
Gerox wonders about the crossing too, and also whether it is a hidden entrance to a deeper tunnel. (OOC: not bad thinking there, I'll admit). He then moves forward and and suggests that he cross with the rope instead of Harvest, as he is much lighter.
Crag prefers to remove enough of the cover to see what's 'down' there first before attempting a crossing. This is not an easy task for one such as Harvest alone, but two squeezed together can do so with a STR check + Aid Another. Oh, and some light for those darkvision impaired. He proposes the alternative for the crossing to go back and fetch a thicker plank.
Peza, chooses to join Barratore in his vigilance of the rear. All alone, he could be subjected to who-knows-what with no means to call for help.
Barratore patiently watches the dark tunnel behind the party. The wait seems to drag by in hours, not minutes. The lantern ahead casting shadows on the uneven tunnel walls can trick an untrained or undisciplined mind into thinking something is there. Or maybe something REALY IS THERE! Or not... or maybe... ssssshhhh... I hear something...PEZA!
Brom just shakes his head at Gerox's bravado.
Lemick wonders about the weight capacity of the boards, but no one's tested them yet. So far, by the tracks, goblinoids made it across, or did they really?
Harvest and Gerox stand poised at the edge of the covered pit trap. One will go while the other holds the rope. Suspense mounts as the uncertainty of the nature of the pit causes some hesitation. one can almost hear the hearbeats of the party as they decide what to do next.
OOC: Ok, need definite decisions. Feel free to e-mail each other or post here, but we have the following: A) Harvest goes across with someone holding the rope B) Gerox goes across with someone holding the rope C) Uncover a portion of the pit and shine a light down do see what REALY will happen if you fail in some way or another.
You guys have been together long enough to have a decision maker/party leader. Time to step up to the plate and start 'directing'. :)
Crossing the pit I'll need at least an Acrobatics Check. If you want to add a Stealth check in there, go for it. Uncovering a portion of the pit will take a STR check and/or Stealth.

"I will go." She hands the other end of the rope to the gnome. "Take this back to the others and follow at a distance."
The gifts of the Wold will help. Harvest Moon speaks the words and uses the movements of her hands to grant herself Guidance and Virtue. The polearm she slings across her back. Then, with one hand holding the rope to keep it taught, Harvest Moon begins inching across the boards. Her eyes flick from the ground to the way ahead. As the party digs (or crosses), Lemick determines the pit doesn't make sense. Sure it stops trespassers, but it also prevents them from exiting. Spideroids might be able to walk on the walls, but goblins carrying goods or prisoners would not be able to.

Lemick caught in the middle of the tunnel, hears the sound. He can do little from his position aside from hope and pray.
It is difficult to say which occurs first. Is it the startling sound? Or is it the feeling of falling? One seems so very much associated with the other.
It is fortunate that Thelonius had taught her the many ways of falling. To twist and roll and soften impact is integral to mitigate harm to one's self. Harvest Moon's body takes over, as her mind mulls the good fortune of her training. The trajectory of her descent, the arc of herself at the end of the taught rope with its apex at the edge of the pit is very clear within her mind as she twists to face the direction in which she had just come. Gripping the rope in both hands, Harvest Moon quickly lifts her feet so that they will be the ones to meet the wall as the pendulum that is herself comes to an abrupt stop at the side of the pit. Her legs will cushion the impact. It is the way in which she was taught.
"Gerox Shale," Harvest Moon calmly whispers over the gnomish magic, "do you see anything? Has the noise attracted attention?"
Harvest Moon herself looks about to catch the dimensions of the pit. It would be a shame to have taken this risk and not to have anything to show for it. At the very least, she might return with this.

The loud cracking sound of wood splintering echoes down the passageway both ways reaching Barratore and Peza. They both look apprehensive into the darkness. Barratore is resolved not to squeeze through the tunnel unless there's more room down the way. Peza starts back to check on her friends.
DM Note: in afterthought, the rope could be held not only by Brom, but by Crag and Lemick as well. But the others would add their Aid Another and Brom made the check so no biggy.
Brom, already expecting something to happen, has braced himself correctly and keeps a firm grip on the rope as it goes taught when Harvest takes a plunge. With help behind him, he immediately starts pulling Harvest up.
Gerox drops to his belly and scoots towards the edge of the pit.
Bralin peers forward expecting the inevitable.
Harvest's martial training takes control as she feels the wood underneath her start to give and then snap. Her judgement is correct in the laws of physics as she arcs towards the pit wall. With splintering wood raining down and a huge billowing cloud of dust and dirt she barely manages to get her feet in place to cushion the impact with the wall.
Her feet are in contact with the pit wall only seconds before she is yanked up and over by her friends. Dust fills the narrow tunnel all the way back to Bralin. Any conversation is chocked out momentarily and the dimmed light makes things look even more spooky.
Harverst and Gerox please roll a CON check for breathing dust. Fail DC10 take 1hp damage from chocking dust.

Harvest Moon puts her mouth into her shoulder as the dust of the falling dirt rises to choke her. The rope pulls suddenly against her and she is hauled swiftly out of the hole.
Sweaty and caked in dust, still, Harvest Moon smiles. "It is not far," she tells the others. "I can jump the span with ease."
"I will go ahead and watch lest you are taken unawares while you cross."
With that, Harvest Moon unties the rope from herself and stows it carefully away. She takes out again the magic Ioun stone and sets it in orbit about her head. Harvest Moon paces off a running start and then charges the pit. Her foot propels her up and out at the very lip of the pit, and she shoots forward. Her arms flail in the open air as she fights to orient herself with her feet forward. Then, as with the fall to the wall of the pit, she takes the impact upon her legs, this time, however, adding a small tuck and roll to lessen some of the force of her landing. It had been quite a long jump.
There, well beyond the edge of the pit, Harvest Moon crouches in stillness. She catches the Ioun stone and replaces it in her pouch. Then she listens into the darkness down the tunnel.
"Gerox Shale," she says, as she waits and watches. "Please ask the others to look for unusual markings. It may be stones placed upon stones. It may seem as nothing at all to us. They must have had a way in which they could know that a trap was here so that they did not fall into it themselves. I think that it must be simple. It could not be too complicated. Peza looks for signs of ventilation. The dust seems to setlle pretty much in place, not moving much. If there is a ventilation system, it's not noticeable. Here at least.
Lemick ponders the difficulty of climbing down. It is only 10' feet so getting down would be easy. It's getting up the other side that posses a small hindrance. At least for the shorter ones. But it looks like some rope and strong arms and shoulders could do the job without too much trouble.

Gerox gives out the warning that Harvest is being attcked and urges the dwarves to take the front as they are less vulnerable to the effects of poison.
Crag scrambles down into the pit and moves to the other side while Brom follows. Down in the pit, Brom boasts about being able to toss dwarves..., er, the barbarian helps Crag up to the other side.
Bralin follows into the pit. (OOC: Brom can hoist Bralin up next round)
Peza makes it back to the group and sees the dust coated friends and all the activity and is informed of what's happening.
With Harvest's light, everyone can see the widening of the tunnel. Those up front see exactly what it is. A small 15'x15' room. However, as Harvest moves to the entrance of the room (to give Crag space), she also sees that the room is not empty.
Her keen vision sees numerous small round rocks zooming towards her!
In three corners of the room and in the hallway exciting the room (see map), small tower shields are set up to provide cover for beady-eyed creatures that excitedly sling stones at Harverst. They had been just out of Harvest's sight (OOC: i drew lines to see) and when she moved forward, the creatures shifted and let loose their Readied sling-stones.

Small-eyed creatures! How is it that she did not hear them before? Especially with the sound of the big shields against the stone?
Harvest Moon vows greater vigilance in the future even as she forges into the room. This time she feels the poison. It saps at her strength and she bleeds from several minor wounds. While twisting and dodging through between the Small-Eyes, Harvest Moon pulls the polearm from her back. With its length she can reach every spot within the room. She must keep them occupied while the others cross the pit.
"We are attacked!" she calls out loud.
In a defensive crouch, the small half-elven girl growls and menaces the Small-Eyes with her polearm. With a foot, she lashes out at the creature next to her. The blow does not land upon the creature, but, instead, it strikes off of the very large shield. The sound is loud and fierce and that alone is enough. For now.

Harvest weathers the storm and suffers the effects of the poison. Despite that, she knows she has to make room for her friends. She decides to head straight across the room. Warned by Crag about the tripwire, she avoids it easily.
The small lizard-like creatures had been up against the walls to remain unseen until the first to enter the room. They then simply set their shields forward the few feet and let loose with readied slings. Whatever sounds they made would have been in the same surprize round as their attack. And these guys are good at being quiet. And sneaky. :)
Barratore mutters prayers for his friend's safety.
Brom easily hoists Bralin over. The dwarf's own kick-off from the ground and grasping the edge to help pull him up insure that there are now two dwarves ready for combat.
Peza wishes to duplicate Harvest's jumping feat but Bralin is now in the way. She'll have to wait. Perhaps while she waits, she can call the minotaur. It will take a little time for the big guy to make his way to them. Perhaps by then they can have the area cleared so he can get to the larger room...
Gerox manages to slither down into the pit. Brom steps over and assists the little guy.
Lemick is desperate to aid his friends in combat but, like Peza, has no room to go to just yet.

The colors of Gerox Shale are very mighty. They fell many Small-eyed kobolds at once. Now that there is the opportunity, Harvest Moon looks about herself, searching for the thrower of darts.
The first one had struck her as she turned to speak to Gerox Shale after having leapt over the pit. The second two had come from the side as she had turned to kick the Small-eyed kobold in the corner. Both of these observations point to the wall next to which Harvest Moon now stands.
Next to her lies one of the very big shields, dropped to the ground by one of the unconscious Small-eyed Kobolds. Harvest Moon drops her polearm to the floor, and, with a single quick motion, she scoops the very big shield, placing it against the wall to cover the place in which she had just been standing. With the shield in place, Harvest Moon listens for the tell tale signs of the darts as they strike the metal of the shield.

Action: Drop halberd. Pick up Tower Shield once held by RedK. Place Tower Shield leaning up against West wall at H14.

Sherlock Holmes would deduce the darts were coming from the wall next to her.

I appologise to Barratore for this inconvenience but larger rooms are ahead so get your fuzzy butt moving to the action. Hint, hint.
Crag switches his attention to the kobolds behind him, now that all those in front are out of commission. The two are huddled so tight with their tower (tower is relative) shields, he has problems with finding a chink in the shield wall.
Harvest, now able to concentrate on where the darts are coming from, looks at the wall next to her, deducing by how and where she'd been hit and sees two holes carefully cammouflaged in the wall. Putting a stop to those pesky darts, she easily blocks the holes with the 'vewy big shield' dropped by Red Kobold when she props it up against the wall. She then listens for any darts hitting the shield.
She hears nothing hitting the shield. However she does hear some faint 'bangs' and 'clonks' but the nature of such noise is not discernable due to the panicked chattering of two kobolds and the rest of the comotion in the small room.
Peza encourages Gerox to move on into the room but realizes that the gnome may not want to cast his spells while next to kobolds, so she steps past the sorcerer and into the killing zone of the unconscious and/or cowering kobolds.
Bralin successfully whacks at the shield wall. Although it is a mighy swing of his axe, the shields cover the kobolds completly, not to mention the fact they are in Total Defense.
Brom now has room to get out of the pit and scrambles up to where Peza just stood.
After helping Brom out of the pit, Lemick decides to have a look around inside. There is debris from the portion that fell through with Harvest, but in a dark corner he spots a flask, as if the thing had fallen out of the backpack of the last 'person' that had fallen into the pit and rolled into the corner.
Gerox sees the wisdom in capturing the kobolds and starts tying Grey Kobold up. OOC: I put you in the same square as you can occupy the same square with a prone figure, and you kinda have to be right over the kobold to tie him good anyway.
Crag Hammerfist AC: 18, HP: 19/22, CMD: 14 d20+3=5 ; Wednesday April 18th, 2012 8:06:15 AM
"Good idea Gerox. You and Harvest can do that while Bralin, Peza, and i deal with these two." The Dwarf calls out as he once again tries to connect with the green kobold.
But instead, Crag decides to bang his axe on the floor near to the kobolds to weaken their defenses as they laugh at another inept swing.(&@$@%^% die roller!)

"Yes," is Harvest Moon's only reply. There is something behind the wall. Something that spits the darts. But the thing behind the wall can harm none now, with the shield blocking its holes, so, despite her curiosity, Harvest Moon moves on.
Turning to the Small-eye next to her, the one from whom she had just stripped the shield, Harvest Moon aims a strike at a soft place upon its head. It is a quick, and not particularly precise strike. But, they are not difficult to hit while they lie upon the ground, unmoving. The blow should keep the Small-eye unconscious for a goodly time.
Leaving her place - and her polearm - behind, the half-elven girl creeps to the door in the north of the room. She prepares to strike the one in the doorway in a similar manner. But before doing so, she peers and listens to detect the sounds of other enemies who might possibly have been drawn by the sound of fighting.

The commotion down the tight passage seems to have ended. At leasst to Barratore ears it has. [Perception 7] Should he call out, revealing his position or should he maitain his rear guard action and assume silence indicates all is now well. Barratore opts for the later and remains in silent vigil in the darkness looking down the larger passage to his lantern over 60' away and the glow it throws further back down the passage. he still had the 'light rock' from the gnome tucked in a pocket and if need be, his own lantern.
Hopefully this will be the last time he needs to come into a tunnel, though he doubhts Waard will let him off so easy. Or would this be Imod's doing? A test of his character, his willingness to put himself in horrible, dark, confining, dirty .....his mind shifts to other topics, namely that tunnels are no places for intelligent beings and dwarves are even crazier than he first thought for choosing such an existance.
OoC: no worries on Barratore DM....all good here :)

CO-DM JonathanT - Spider Tunnel Thrill Ride: 10 coupons d20+1=9 ; Wednesday April 18th, 2012 11:30:18 PM DM Note: you'll see on the map that Yellow Kobold is Dead. For whatever reason I misread their hit points and Crag killed it in one swoop. However he was blasted by the Color Spray before he hit the ground so this DM Error has not had any adverse effects.
Crag takes a look over his shoulder to congratulate Gerox on his good forthought and nearly takes a slice off Bralin.
Harvest easily bops Red Kobold on the head for non-lethal damage. She then moves past the unconscious kobolds and into a short halway that ends in at T section. The light from the small room bleeds a little into the intersection (OOC: I don't don't see where you put your light stone back on.) to reveal hallways that branch off from the west and a hallway that goes east a ways but darkness then takes over.
Barratore keeps his vigilance at the tunnel narrowing but is ready to move at the first cry of help.
Gerox suggests tyring to get the two cowering kobolds to surrender just as Bralin's axe finds a piece of Kobold. The piece was a big one, it's head. It no longer cowers in the corner.
Gerox merrily moves to the next kobold, Yellow and sees he's obviously dead and goes to Red kobold to tie him up.
Peza follows Gerox, crossbow readied to peg any foe that dares rear it's little ugly head.
Brom wades into the room swinging his BFW menacingly and manages to scare a little spider on the wall.
DM note to Lemick: You can make your post for this round, then make one for next round, as I'm assuming you'll be climbing out of the pit.

Crag's axe is deflected by the stubborn kobold's shield.

Harvest bonks Cyan Kobold and makes sure it won't wake up for a while.
Peza remains on guard with crossbow ready.
Bralin discovers why Crag hasn't put these all away yet. They're just hard to hit! His axe is also deflected by the tower shield.
Lemick carfully retrievs the vial he found and it appears to be full but it is too dark to see the nature of the liquid inside. He sees no bones or other remains of victims. More than likely, who ever it was has long been 'consumed', but somehow the vial got missed. Probably in the kobolds' excitement for dinner. Lemick then attempts to climb out. He takes his time (takes 10) and manages to pull himself up using parts of the fallen debri and pure determination.
Gerox and Brom can post their moves for this turn, then next turn.
One pesky Kobold still fights on. Most other kobolds might have just given up, but those would not have been chosen for guard duty. And, no offer was given. So Blue Kobold continues his mighty effort to go down in Kobold history as the Greatest Kobold Ever.

Gerox moves to Cyan Kobold after Harvest bonks it on its head and ties it up.
Starting new round:
Gerox sees the trouble the group is having in dispatching the last kobold and sends a magical missile it's way. The energy orb smacks the kobold in the head. In that frozen moment crag sweeps in with his axe and cleaves the head in two.
Gerox does not like leaving Barratore behind, or any captives. He suggests gathering them up and take the prisoners back for questioning.
Harvest, seeing the dark corridors leading in different directions, decides a little more light will be needed and pulls out her lighted ioun stone again. The additional light reveals that here is indeed a room due east. Moving forward a little she sees in the dim light that reaches into the midts of the room she sees some wooden furniture, some stools and a table. More importantly, now that the noise of combat has died down, she hears a soft moan!
Crag is more for letting Barratore take the prisoners back while they continue on.
Peza moves into the hallway and continues to keep watch over Harvest as the monk moves forward. There are tracks in the dirt floor but they are a jumble. A lone foot print here and there are from small humanoids.
Lemick starts to question the kobolds in Common, despite the fact they are unconscious.
Brom asks his friends if anyone of them know the speach of the kobolds and suggests that if no one can, then kill them(?).
Bralin also moves into the hallway to back the other two up.

Crag moves her back into the room with the unconscious Kobolds if she will come along, and channels energy, healing both of them for 3. Seeing she is still slightly wounded, Crag will channel again for 6 more. That should heal anyone injured, and the kobolds as well.
"They should be waking up if anyone can speak with them. If not, they should go back for the settlement leaders to speak with. The more that can be learned of what lives in here, and anywhere else they know of could be invaluable information. I still say we should let the Barratore take them back while we move on. Crag suggests everyone come together so he can heal everyone but Harvest hears something that doesn't sound 'koboldish' coming from the room ahead and if it is one of the captured Rumtowners, they/he/she may need healing and suggests Crag move forward instead so the dwarf's healing can extend into the room as well.
Crag consents to Harvest's suggestion and moves past his friends to be right behind Harvest.
Harvest then cautiously moves forward, intending to enter the room, quickly sidestepping to the north, however... as she steps into the room, its full extend is revealed...
Now that she can see the ceiling and the corners, she sees that they are covered in SPIDER WEBS! OOC: although the map only shows spider webs in the corners, that is where it is thickest, the entire ceiling is covered in spider web.
Not only that, but there are FOUR Spider-taurs waiting in ambush from above! OOC: the spider-taurs are upside-down on the ceiling. The ceiling is the standard 10' hight so between them reaching down to attack or you reaching up to attack is as easily done as if you were next to each other on the groud. Just think in 3-D.
Harvest's quick reaction and preparedness prevent a complete surprise.
Gerox asks someone to check the bonds on the captives to insure they are tight enough and starts gagging them in case one wakes up and 'sounds' an alarm. At a glance, they don't seem to be carrying any other weapons but the spears and slings.
Peza follows in Crag's footsteps while Bralin heads back to the entrance and calls for Barratore to come on down and keep watch on the captive kobolds.
Lemick complies with Gerox's wish to have someone check the bonds on the captives. So far, they look tight enough.
Barratore keeps watch, but with Bralin calling for him, will he brave the narrow tunnels to aid his friends?
Spider-taur turn: The spider-taurs, having been alerted to danger by the combat next door, had waited to see if the kobolds would hold off the attack. Enough noise was made to warn them that they had not succeeded, thus they waited in the darkness to pounce if anyone should enter their lair.
As quiet as Harvest may be, her light gave her presence away, but also revealed the ambush. That, of course, means nothing to the spider-taurs. More food was one the way...

Flames. That is Harvest Moon's first thought. Fire would consume the webs of these spiderkin and lay them bare.
Then, however, she notes the bundles wrapped within the webbing. There is no doubt in her mind as to what they are. They are the prisoners from Rum, wrapped within the web to be eaten later.
"The people from Rum are here!" she cries.
Harvest Moon feels at touch from behind, and the now familiar relief of blessed healing that closes the bite from the spiderkin. It is with this that she knows what she must do.
"Come, Spiderkin!" taunts Harvest Moon. She must keep their attention until the others can arrive. Harvest Moon steps away from the spiderkin near the door, keeping her back to the wall. From her bag she takes the wand gifted to them by Torian Silverleaf and then raises her arms so to best protect her head and torso. She must keep their attention and remain alive. "Come! Fight with me!" Her friends will come. But she must stay alive until then.

They are medium as well, putting their heads in the same middle square. Your arm+weapon reaches 5' putting his head (and yours), at least in danger of getting hit.
If we use 10' as the ceiling, you could be hitting his feet, or kissing his/her pretty face. :)
Note: the map does not say how high the ceilings are. It just occured to me that 15' would make more sense than 10'. However, if my visualization does not make sense, 10' is fine with me.
On the plus side of things, it just occured to me that a 15' high ceiling could make it easier for the gnomes as long as the spider-taurs remain on the ceiling, as they do not extend into the middle square.

On to the Round Recap:
Brom's hardy barbarian body manages to keep the fang wounds to a mere scratch, but poison still has a scratch to fascilitate its invasion into his body. Will he fend that off too? Crag's flash behind him throws off his aim and he misses the Sp-T that tasted his blood.
Barratore continues making his way down the narrow tunnel, almost making it wider as he scrapes along. (OOC: one more round and you'll be at the pit trap.)
Peza still has trouble getting her aim right. Long gone are those days on the Sea Sprite when her bolts were so deadly. Sigh...
Bralin switches from axe to sling and sends a stone zipping over his friends' heads connecting with Green Sp-T's head.
Harvest tries to fight off the double poison and manages to knock of one dose, but not the second, losing 1pt of her strength. (OOC: She'll need to roll again for that dose at beginning of round or lose 1 more). She continues her strategy of moving further into the room, so her friends can come in, moving right under Red Sp-T, and uses all her skill for defense.

OoC on Height and Space
I vote for the room being 10ft high. It's more convenient and more reasonable to consider that a medium character occupies a 5x5 square regardless of what height you set him or her at. It's predictable and it's consistant. You get into real trouble when you start adjusting upward and downward reach based on described heights rather than game dimensions. You through the concept of Reach into doubt. Shouldn't a taller person have a further horizontal reach too if s/he has a greater vertical reach? And, if you proceed along the assumptions that space and reach are based on character size, then the spider's attacks haven't happened. As Medium characters, they would not have had the reach from the ceiling.
You asked for votes.

CO-DM JonathanT - Spider Tunnel Thrill Ride: 10 coupons Thursday April 26th, 2012 9:03:09 PM OOC: Room Ceiling hight. With respect to Reach, even a tall Medium character does not have that much of a reach difference than a shorter one when it comes to combat. A hafling takes up a 5x5 square, his reach is the same as a 7' tall human, but nearly 1/3 the height. But Character height does comes into play all the time. A dwarf will have to Climb out of a 10' pit, a 7' tall PC won't. So you deal with the Medium Size 5x5 square and the Height anomally all the time without thinking about it.
In my experiece, the dungeon rooms were always higher than the corridors. But there's no set rule.

... A dwarf will have to Climb out of a 10' pit, a 7' tall PC won't. So you deal with the Medium Size 5x5 square and the Height anomally all the time without thinking about it ...
I think you're wrong there. If both are medium characters, then both will have to climb out. If you begin adjudicating things based on the story based description of the character, then you throw the rules for reach, squeezing, and many more physical dimensions into doubt. They relate to the Size of creatures for a reason.
DM: This is a grey area. In my gaming experience, the DM has used his discretion in cases like this. A Medium Size reach is 5' because, in combat, one isn't going to make himself vulnerable by stretching his full length to attack. I think there is something called a Lunge, but that's either a Combat Maneuver or a Feat. But all this is given with 2-D in mind, not 3-d.
For this room at least, let's keep it at 15', then the others will be 10'.
Gerox curses as he stumbles into the folks in front of him. Can't they get out of his way? He casts a new message spell targeting Harvest and Crag saying, "Crag, I plan to cast a fire spell next round. It will take their advantage away and burn away the webs but it will cause damage to the hostages. Be ready to cast one of your burst healings"
(ooc my reasoning, The fire only burned Crag 1 d3 points of damage. It might do 1d6 to everyone else but since they need to go to -10 I figure we can save them with a burst spell)
This round unless I hear huge dissent, Gerox will cast his fireball to burn away the webs.
If I get huge dissent, then I will cast a magic missile at one of the spiders if I can see it doing a whooping 2 points of damage. (hopefully I can burn the webs away with that crappy roll)

Brom takes a mighty swing at Purple Sp-T. He feels he would have hit it if not for the webs glued to him. An entangled creature takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls
Attack: PA (-1), BAB (+2), Str (+5)= AC17, -2 Webbed = 15.

Bralin tries the 'David vs Goliath Effect' again but this time he misses.
Peza applies all her skills with the crossbow and her patience pays off when an opening occurs as Brom swings at his foe. The bolt flies true and imbeds itself in Green Sp-T. Green teeters for a moment then moves into the SE corner to hide in the webs.
Gerox sends a message to his friends and waits for a response. Fireball or Magic Missile?
Lemick positions himself at the back of the queue and looks into the north corridor. He sees a small alcove. In the dim light, looks like a hall started then ran into a rock.
Barratore reaches the pit and hears some cursing as his friends keep missing their foes and a cheer from Peza.
OOC: I'll finish the post tomorrow. Reply to Gerox's inquiry and I'll pick it up from there. Crag hasn't gone and in this critical juncture I'd rather take a little time than rush through things.

Gerox sent a message to warn his friends he was about to send a small ball of fire into the room to clear the webs. Harvest warns the sorcere against such action as it will also burn any victims in the webbing that may already be seriously hurt. The monk as already spotted one such possible victim webbed to the ceiling over the table.
The Sorcerer sends a magical missile unerringly to Yellow Sp-T instead.
The table top is about 2 1/2 feet off the ground. So standing on it would be a big help. Of course, a tall person, such as a minotaur, could easily reach high enough from the table to cut the bundle loose.
Crag manages to rip the webbing off himself (STR 14 vs DC13), drops his axe and pulls out his crossbow.
Brom, frustrated with the hindering webs also tries to break loose from the webs (STR -4 vs DC13) but fails.
Green Sp-T thinks it's manage to evade Peza's sharp-shooting but alas, not so. (OOC Peza still has Line of Sight, so she can still target it, with cover, but you still hit) and manages to graze it with a bolt.
Barratore slips into the pit and out onto the other side with relative ease due to his tall frame.
Lemick 'advances just a bit' (OOC: meaning a 5' step?) and peeks around the corner. The dim light manages to illuminate a small section of corridor heading south but darkness takes over after 5 feet.
Green Sp-T's soul, released from its mortal body, escapes to the nether realms and the body plops to the ground with a sickening thud.

Yip! Harvest Moon nearly leaps into the air as one of the spiderkin falls to Peza's bolt. There are now but three left. It will be a matter of outlasting them.
But Harvest Moon feels the poison again within her blood. And the spiderkin have just bitten Brom very strongly.
Growling softly, Harvest Moon sidles away from the spiderkin that has just bitten her. With the wand gifted by Torian Silverleaf she calls the spell and feels many of her wounds close and heal.
"STRIKE THEM DOWN!" she calls to her friends. And, "Brom, this wand heals!" she says.
Now clear of all spiders, she spends a moment to take a good look about the room. No longer beset, she takes a very good look, not only seeking out the presence of other captives within the web, but also making an appraisal of their foes. One has fallen, it appears. But it seems only unconscious. The others have yet to be wounded at all.

This must be the one she saw taken down the hole. There was only one yesterday, and this must be that person. Harvest Moon growls at the spiderkin upon the table, the spider that blocks her way to the person fastened to the ceiling by the webs. The poison continues to course through her veins.
On the other side of the table, Brom is beset. The others are trapped outside of the room by the sticky webs on Crag Hammerfist. She must help Brom.
Harvest Moon springs away from the spiderkin upon the table. She dodges toward the nearby wall and then springs off it to change the direction of her momentum and bring herself in behind the spiderkin who faces Brom.
"I am here, Brom," she calls. "Strike it down." Harvest Moon then waves a fist at the spiderkin in an attempt to distract it from its purpose. But her strength, sapped by the poison, fails her.

Feet turn over head and come down again to land with solid footing, one upon the tabletop, and the other one lower, upon the seat of an accompanying chair.
Harvest Moon growls again at the spiderkin, warning it away in a threatening manner. It is then that she realizes that the poison has now left her blood. With this realization comes the reminder that Brom is still injured. A word and a quick flip of the wrist invokes the wand, and Harvest Moon transfers the magic to Brom with a touch.

Seizing the opportunity, Bralin drops his sling and slides past Peza while drawing out his axe. He tries to swing it upward and across at the spider on the ceiling.
[Not sure if he can engage the purple spider or not. If so, nat 20, threat hit 17 for 4 (crit would be 12) hp dam]
DM Ans: think in 3-D. There are 3 cubes stacked (15'), you are in cube 1 and you have 5' reach into cube 2. He's in cube 3 and partially in cube 2 (Medium size) and has 5' reach into cube 1. If you want to be real techincal, he can't reach you if you go Prone and you can't reach him if he 'squats' (he can't really go Prone) on the ceiling. Othewise he can reach you and you can reach him.
Lemick 4-Leaf Sted/Anthony hp 16/16, ac 20/12/18 Wednesday May 2nd, 2012 10:44:16 PM
Lemick advances forward ready to offer aid if he can reach, while at the same time giving Barratore some room to stretch after that confining hallway. Holding his javelin in his right hand, Lemick spots the damage done to his comrads.
OOC: Healing all living isn't what I want. I want a healing spell that heals "good" only. :-) Most creatures we fight are evil or at best neutral.
DM note: I understand. Unfortunately for your spell, it targets positive (since you are good) energy to all living within the Area of Effect. If these were Undead, you'd have a blast casting this spell, healing your friends while hurting the enemy.
