None of my summons have it, and without UM in play my Eidolon can't get access to it either. Looks like we may just need to leave the loot and run. On the bright side Delrid, one of the poisons has been negated now since you rolled the save twice in a row.

OOC: Hey folks, I need to take a break for a while. Real life has taken priority over fantasy life, and I need some time off from the Wold. If anyone (Zach, Matt, Dave, Rob) ants wants to post for me, then great. I know it's kind of a crucial time for the assault, but I just can't be consistent right now.
Will you walk into my parlour? - (DM RobC) Sunday April 29th, 2012 10:51:31 PM OOC: Yep, I'm back in action and ready to go! DM post being prepared - though I may need to reconsider that Delrid-death I had planned ;)
Will you walk into my parlour? - (DM RobC) d20+10=17 ; d20+10=13 ; Monday April 30th, 2012 4:11:59 AM Bruagh takes a swing but misses the spider directly in front of him. Would a rope trick provide a safe haven for the party? Are any summoned creatures able to battle these spiders on a level field? What use are these wizards anyway!?!
Sam quickly goes to treat Sarnak, who seems the worse for wear
Sarnak - a little dazed - pulls out a wand, ready to heal his eidolon should she take a hit. Kyachi however, is unable to get a paw or tooth close enough to fight against the spiders.
Delrid takes solace in knowledge, and his dwarven blood works to clean the poison from his system
Durnock wonders what all the fuss is about, swinging wildly at the spiders as he takes up rear guard
Devlin draws a crossbow and shoots it - past each member of the party - missing the spider in front of Bruagh. (Based on your previous post of "Devlin waits for one of the heavily armored fighters to enter the tunnel and follows" I put you in front of Durnock, but behind everyone else)
Guarding the front - and preventing any more spiders from coming into the tunnel - stands Bruagh. Behind him, Kyachi, Sarnak, Sam, Delrid, Devlin then Durnock.
The spiders attack again!
The spider in front of Bruagh must still be uncomfortable, as it misses the hardy dwarf (Attack vs AC25: 17 = Miss!)
One of the other spiders materalises on the wall by Durnock! It lunges, but its teeth find nothing but air (Attack vs AC22: 13 = Miss!)Durnock - Please make a Will save vs DC10 to "feel better"
The spiders that were blocking both ways out of the tunnel disappear from view...

OOC: Well he did say phase spider, and they are essentially using ethereal jaunt, which transfers you to the ethereal realm while active. According to see invisible, it reveals ethereal creatures, so see invis would show them clearly. I'm still waiting somewhat on what's the situation with Kyachi and Braugh, so I can't quite post yet. (Braugh is at the rear attacking the spider that went after Dernock, and Kyachi was in range to execute a full attack against the spider at the front, although both attacks made by the spider would still miss, so Spider 3 has likely taken more damage than listed.)
Sarnak: He would look to the group then back to Kyachi, shrugging off the last of the poision before it could affect him further (Roll 18 vs DC 18. both poison applications now gone) "Well, if were going to rope trick after this, I'm not going to hold back." He waves his hands about for a moment, a small ethereal image of a clock with it's hands spinning rapidly appearing above the heads of Dernock, Braugh, Kyachi, and Devlin as they would feel their reflexes improve and their prowess heighten (Cast haste on listed characters). He would then call out. "We may be backed in a corner, but we have our two most armored members guarding our flanks. keep pelting them and we may yet get through this! They're only turning invisible, even if you can't see them if your lucky you can still hit them. "
Kyachi: Upon having the full attention of the spider that failed to redisappear, grins wickedly as she rakes her claws across it and bites one of it's legs, and upon feeling the sudden burst of speed delivers another viscous bite to the spider, Glad to be the shield of the group in the cramped corridor.
Attack: 26/26/9/28/16(Crit confirm) Damage: 10/12/12/11/11(if Crit is confirmed)
(OOC: If Kyachi's full attack brings down the first spider she would spend her remaining attacks attempting to strike the other squares available to her. Also,is there any aid another action that can be used on a ally engaged in combat to aid them in some way? or that only for skill checks?)

Basically I count 3 people - Bruagh, Kyachi and Dernock - making melee attacks in a tunnel. Placed as you are on the map means that at most only 2 spiders can attack you, but similarly, only 2 melee characters can attack back. If you want Kyachi or Bruagh to move into the room though to allow for more attacks, feel free to do so while the spiders can't be seen, but remember if you can reach them, they can reach you. As for the damages, spider#1 is at one end of the tunnel, spider#4 was closest to the other end and is thus about to attack Dernock :) As requested, here are the rules for aiding someone else in combat: Link to Aid Another in Combat. Basically you have to be able to hit the target too.
Dernock misses with one axe, but times his other swing to perfection, landing a glancing blow against the spider that appears before him
Sam readies a bolt to fire. Perhaps his nerves are getting to him, as he pulls the trigger a little early and sends a bolt scuttling to the floor.
Sarnak hastes the parties actions, improving defensive and offensive abilities significantly.
Kyachi goes to town on the spider that appears before her, claws and teeth ripping hairy pieces of flesh from the beast.
The spiders do not seem to be impressed however, as the flailing spider before Kyachi lands a solid bite on the eidolon (Spider #1 Attack vs AC28: 30=Nat 20. 20 fails to confirm crit. Kyachi takes 14pts damage and must make a Fort save vs DC18 or take 2pts Con damage per round for 8rounds!)
The spider on the wall by Durnock also manages to land a bite (Spider #4 Attack vs AC22: 27=Hit. Dernock takes 15pts damage and must make a Fort save vs DC18 or take 2pts Con damage per round for 8rounds!)

OOC: ( I just noticed something in the srd here: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/afflictions/poison Poisons delivered by injury and contact cannot inflict more than one dose of poison at a time, but inhaled and ingested poisons can inflict multiple doses at once. Each additional dose extends the total duration of the poison (as noted under frequency) by half its total duration. In addition, each dose of poison increases the DC to resist the poison by +2. This increase is cumulative. Multiple doses do not alter the cure conditions of the poison, and meeting these conditions ends the affliction for all the doses. For example, a character is bit three times in the same round by a trio of Medium monstrous spiders, injecting him with three doses of Medium spider venom. The unfortunate character must make a DC 18 Fortitude save for the next 8 rounds. Fortunately, just one successful save cures the character of all three doses of the poison.
Some of us have received multiple doses, but that just means the DC and duration goes up, not more poison infliction.)
Kyachi: She would flinch back at the hit, and feel a bit woozy at the feeling of the poison coursing through her, but wouldn't let it distract her as she would attempt to strike the square in front of her, not believing that the spider had left the area.
(Assuming 2 50% rolls given 50% chance to hit a target you can't see, and 50% chance for attacking a incorp/ethereal target with a magic weapon. If that's the case, only attack one hits. Posting up a full attack regardless in case something happens to allow her to get off more than one. Disregard the 2 d100s with mods, misclicked. Will you walk into my parlour? - (DM RobC) Wednesday May 2nd, 2012 4:12:34 AM OOC: Some interesting information has just been slipped across my desk. Specifically that you can't ready a full-attack - only a standard attack. That said, what kind of DM would I be if I changed the rules mid-combat. So for the rest of this battle, you may ready full-attacks. For subsequent battles though, you can only ready a standard attack.
Also thankyou to Sarnak for pointing out the multiple doses of poison section for me
The party ready their attacks for the spiders to appear. But strangely, none seem to show themselves. A moments reprieve, perhaps?
Not trusting the area before her eyes, Kyachi claws and bites at the space in front of her. She doesn't sense she has connected with anything however (Hint: Highlight to display spoiler: {Link 1 and Link 2 may make interesting reading})
All that can be heard is the panting of the battle-weary party.
If you are poisoned, please list it somewhere in your header or post. By my recollection, the following people are poisoned: Delrid (1con per round. 12rounds remaining as a result of two doses?) Kyachi (2con per round. 7rounds remaining?) Sam (1con per round. 5rounds remaining?) Remember to update your HP as the poison saps away your CON!
Failing some antitoxin, you need 2 consecutive Fort saves to be cured prior to the 8rounds of toxin taking effect.

Will you walk into my parlour? - (DM RobC) Thursday May 3rd, 2012 4:37:30 AM OOC:
@Sarnak: Sorry, were you waiting for me to respond to your questions?
Q. "Given that ethereal can only be affected by special weapons..." A. The spiders can't be affected by any weapon on the material plane while they are on the ethereal plane. While the spiders are on the material plane you could hit them with a rock :)
Q. Does that mean see invis on phase spiders would only reveal their location, not make them vulnerable to attack from conventional magic weapons? A. Correct
Q: If so, how exactly is a group of adventurers supposed to kill phase spiders if the spiders are playing intelligently at level 4? A: Who said you were supposed to kill them? :) 6 x Lvl 4 characters with stats using the Epic system and more than triple normal loot (really? everybody bought magic items and nobody spent 50gp on anti-toxin?) should be a match for 4 x CR5 creatures. As for playing them intelligently, well, the writeup says they: - setup ambushes - only appear in the material realm if they can retreat back to the ethereal at the end of their turn - if they poison someone they are happy to sit back and let the poison take effect. That said, I had considered having one rematerialise in the air above the party, thereby having a large creature falling on you and applying that damage. But that would just be mean :) There are big bad things in the Scab though, and the party will have to decide each time whether to fight or flee.
Q: Are readied actions or force-based blasting the only options? A: That's for the cunning adventurers to determine.
Also, per previous comments, feel free to have Kyachi ready full-attacks for this entire combat :)

That said, before what you just said I didn't know of antitoxin, and would have been a good choice to deal with this type of encounter. I'm fairly new to actually running in groups as opposed to building characters so I never thought of it XD. Also, we have one caster (My character is primarily a melee with buffs. I have very few offensive spells and no damage spells, so I'm counting him as melee) and a general lack of big-hit melee characters that would be useful to counter this encounter. Bruagh now guards the rear of the tunnel.
The spiders again appear!
Both Kyachi and Bruagh severely injure their targets (Spider #2 and #4 respectively). Devlin and Sam attempt to provide supporting crossbow fire, but these spiders seem tricky to hit from range, as both bolts completely miss their targets.
The spiders fight back!
Spider #2 tries to bite Kyachi, but is unable to penetrate the thick magical barriers protecting the eidolon. It hisses in apparent frustration.
Spider #4 however, continues to battle on. It lunges at Bruagh, finding a weak spot in the paladins armor (Spider #4 Attack vs AC25 (26 with Haste): 27=Hit. Bruagh takes 16pts damage and must make a Fort save vs DC18 or take 2pts Con damage per round for 8rounds!)

In answer to your question, Sarnack..
Q: Is the poison rolled once and that value kept for 2 dmg per round, or is it rolled per round for 1 or 2 dmg per round? A: It doesn't specify in the writeup. Given we are very close to the end of this battle, I think we keep going with what we have so far. Whatever was rolled at the time of attack (1 or 2) will be the dmg per round to CON. This would align to the amount of poison injected at the time of the attack (a small dose or a large dose).

The party brace themselves for the next wave of spider attacks, that inevitably come.
Before the spiders can pounce however, Bruagh splits one down the middle with axe, as Kyachi tears the head from another.
Devin and Sarnak's bolts miss their targets. It seems hitting the targets from range is near impossible for the party.
Sam only:Highlight to display spoiler: {Though you don't see anything to lead you to believe Dernock to be under the control of any enchantment, you are certain there is something not right with the dwarf, but you have no idea what (Secret sense motive check rolled for you by DM)}
The party resume their routine of readying attacks for the next wave to appear.
Seconds pass. Then minutes. Either the remaining spider(s) are extremely patient, or they have chosen to count their losses and leave the party alone for the time being.
The poison oozing through Delrid's veins seems to be winning its battle, as the dwarven wizard lapses into unconsciousness. Delrid is now in a state of "dying"
One spider lies before Bruagh on the ground, two lay in front of Kyachi - testament to the power of the eidolon. The adamantine equipment lies piled in the room ahead.

OOC: Question, Eidolon's have no natural healing. So, if Kyachi was present and rested with the rest of the group, she would regain no hp or ability damage restoration correct? If that is the case, then the following occurs. If that's not the case, I'll redo this post. Also, what was the xp for the mangrove fight, and are we using the fast track for xp?
Kyachi at 1 con Kyachi: She would remain constantly aware of any coming threats, as the poison would slowly ebb away her strength, until she could barely stand unaided, as she breathed heavily, expecting the release of banishment but finding she was left barely alive. She let out a loud growl. "Really? they leave me like this? On the brink of death? Sarnak, you can deal without me till tomorrow, I'm not going to stand to be this weak for the next fight. See you on the other side. And next time, bring some damned antitoxin. Really, you didn't expect poison would be a problem?" She reaches up a claw and slashes her own throat, as she suddenly disappears in a burst of light, a small sigh of release audible.
Sarnak would nod at her as she killed herself, the rune on his head disappearing for the moment, as he looks back to the group. "She'll be back tomorrow. She's special, yes, but like any summoned creature she never actually takes a hit, only the conduit linking her to this plane does, and when that conduit is severed it takes till morning for it to reform." He then sits on the ground and collects his thoughts for the moment." So, where that rope trick? my magical power is nearly spent, although I still have quite a few summons left."
The spiders have fallen - (DM RobC) Saturday May 5th, 2012 7:43:54 PM OOC: Q. If Kyachi was present and rested with the rest of the group, she would regain no hp or ability damage restoration correct? A: Yep
Q. What was the xp for the mangrove fight? A. None. XP is allocated per scene rather than per battle - although it is usually 1fight/scene anyway. In this case the scene was planned with 1.5 battles (the mangrove/worm battle was never planned to be fully fought)
Q. Are we using the fast track for xp? A. Nope, Medium :)

Looking around at the obviously sickened and weakened group true worry enters the rogues eyes. Bruagh do you have any way of reversing the effects of the poison? OOC: Something I noticed about Delrid's poison. We've established the rule of DC+2, duration *1.5. If that's the case. I looked over Delrid's rolls. at round 3 he had 2 natural 20s vs poison. At round 4 his first save failed but his other succeeded. How are we running his poison? Option 1: ignore the rolls after first for the saves Option 2: use all rolls made as if it was made sequentially? if 2, he was cured at round 3 with -2 con, period. if 1, then he stopped rolling at round 4, has taken 3 con damage, and has to roll 8 more times. He also has 22 hp damage. He has 18 con, so he can survive up to -18 hp. At worst, he takes 11 con damage total. that still leaves him just barely alive. (-6 hp out of a -7 max) Delrid, provided he doesn't bleed at all, will not die, and will only need healing of about +7 to come back to consciousness.
As for a couple more selfish questions;
1. When using summon monster without knowing the monster's language, what commands can be given and what reason does the monster have to obey them?
2. If a monster only has one attack and makes a full attack, can a natural weapon count as if a 2h weapon, like a 1h weapon can be used as a 2h weapon? I think i remember seeing a rule somewhere that if you only have 1 natural attack it's always considered a 2h weapon. I know it's in the eidolon's stat block, I don't know if elsewhere.
3. The lemure( http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/devil/lemure/summoned-creature-lemure) has no level 1 feat. what level 1 should it have?

The party steer clear of the treasure on the floor. More than one of you can't help but eye it as you pass. Could treasure really be that bad? Why, such a thing would be terrible for dwarves!
Devlin leads the group to the opposite corridor. Delrid is up and walking, and the still unconscious Dernock is being carried by Bruagh. Sam remains cautious of his surroundings, and Sarnack just follows along quietly.
Dernock can make a DC10 Con check to regain consciousness. Fail and you dream of voluptuous dwarven maidens for a little while longer
After only a few yards - 5, maybe 10 - the corridor comes to an uprupt and unexpected end. A smooth and certainly constructed wall blocks the party from proceeding any further.
Should the unaccounted-for spider reappear any time soon, the party will almost certainly be boxed in.

Devlin though, examines the dead-end in more detail. The wall was certainly constructed. By dwarves perhaps? Running his fingers down the wall, Devlin inadvertantly brushes against a small, discoloured portion. With a very loud rumbling, and the sound of stone grinding on stone, the wall starts to slide from right to left, opening the passageway and revealing a room, previously hidden.
From where you stand, the room appears to be empty. There look to be markings or carvings on the walls inside, and a pedestal in the centre of the room - but that is all you can see from your current position.

Sarnak looks over the new room for the moment before looking at braugh. "If we can get the rope trick up most of us will be back at mostly full strength, so I don't think we necessarily need to give up completely. that said, We have no ability to handle poisons or the similar draining our strength, So there may be some wisdom in going back for the correct potions or wands. My summons are ephemeral, they don't really suffer any form of damage permanently, and are back at almost full strength the next day, so as long as I'm not dead I can keep fighting against more spiders or the like.
If we can manage to be more cautious, not leaving our formation and being aware on all sides, we may be able to keep on. We only really got into trouble because when we entered the last room we left our more vulnerable members exposed, which the spiders took advantage of.
As for the loot, we destroyed 3 of their 4 guardians, after we rest we can probably handle one more guardian without much trouble.
He then looks to Devlin, sending a whispered message(the spell) to him. "Also, are you sure you want to go exploring when all a enemy group really needs to do is breathe on us for most of the group to fall over?."

Hidden Room - (DM RobC) Saturday May 12th, 2012 12:35:46 AM OOC: @Sarnak: "My summons are ephemeral, they don't really suffer any form of damage permanently" - this is not entirely true. Though eidolons do get 50% HP back when resummoned after being killed, ability point damage is carried over. This looks to be the concensus with the Paizo forums, and ratified in a ruling in the Wold Rules forum recently.
As the last member of the party enters the room, the phase spider that had remained hidden for so long reappears, and begins a feast on the fallen spiders. Pickings must be slim if they have resorted to cannibalism.
The wall that had slid open to this room, slides back into place behind you.
The evil that Bruagh had sensed is gone. Only peace remains.
Devlin takes the time to scan the room in more detail. The carvings on the wall don't mean a lot to him, though Delrid is quick to explain them. All around the room, carved onto the walls, are scenes depicting the Woldian gods during the First Age. Their battles, their triumphs. The walls recount them all. There, Devlin notes that a carving of Gargul's staff, seemingly looks like it can be pushed or turned.
Around the rim on the bowl on the pedestal, Devlin points out markings, that when the cobwebs and dust are cleaned away, form some sort of phrase...
100 for my footman, proud and strong 100 for my consort, whose passion was wrong 100 for my keeper, with eyes everywhere 100 for the half-god, beautiful and fair
Put my scales in the vessel Pray on bended knee Pray to my kinsmen and I And my blessing I give to thee
Delrid believes this room to be some kind of temple, or sacred area. He is ready to cast rope trick when requested to.

Hidden Room - (DM RobC) Saturday May 12th, 2012 1:42:33 AM OOC:
Hey Sarnak, - Happy to have Kyachi alive rather than having her 'off' herself :) - Its not on the wiki yet, having only been discussed over the past week. Checkout the Rules forum from my post on Sat May5th onwards. The topics I raised were the legalities around being able to kill-off the eidolon, and also about ability point damage. Ability Point damage was agreed to remain after dismissal, and I am in the process of writing up a proposal that says instead of having to kill off your eidolon, that "if your eidolon has less than half its hp when you voluntarily dismiss it for the day, the next day it returns at half its max". This then bypasses any alignment issues or things like that. As I've mentioned before, I play 2 summoners here, so want to get these things sorted :) - Lesser Eidolon Restoration is from UM. You'd need plain old Lesser Restoration, which would be a spell not on your list and require UMD rolls to cast from a scroll (assuming cleric scrolls, you'd need to hit a 23. With you having 10 on UMD, you'd need to roll a 13+ each time OR someone else in the group with a higher UMD to cast for you). Hold off on the swap for a little bit. If you're still keen to swap them out then we can.
Sarnak: AC23/15/20 - CMD17 - HP19/(33)37 Kyachi(Not Present): AC20/16/17 - CMD20 - HP14(14)/38 Saturday May 12th, 2012 4:17:31 AM
OOC: Ok then, then I'll redo my last 2 posts.
Kyachi: She would remain constantly aware of any coming threats, as the poison would slowly ebb away her strength, until she could barely stand unaided, as she breathed heavily, expecting the release of banishment but finding she was left barely alive. She let out a loud growl. "Really? they leave me like this?" She looks to Sarnak " And you don't have any restoration abilities do you? Wonderful, keep that wand handy, with this much strength siphoned from me I'm not going to be able to take any hits." She then looks to the rest of the group. "Any restorations among you?"
Sarnak: He sighs "Great, I'm all for hitting the rope trick, but I'm going to have to rely on my other summons. Kyachi, I'm going to dismiss you as soon as I feel that I can't keep you up.
Kyachi: "Next time, if I'm taking damage like this, desummon me. please. Now, What to do? I'm not ready for another fight like that. I vote for going back and seeing if we can get a cleric to join us."
Sarnak: "There may not be a cleric. I do agree though, we should regroup before advancing.

OOC: ok, looked through the rules discussion of it. I have a couple questions now. I'm not posting this to the rule discussion since it seems to have moved on from this point. 1. what if the Eidolon is at 0 con instead of 1? when resummoned does it just die immediately?
2. I saw on the rules forum some discussion of a Eidolon offing itself is munchkining, but I ask why is it? The Eidolon is a logical being, and if the 52 fights or so it's been in to get to level 4 it should have died at least once. After that first death, It comes back the next day, better than it left at. I'm assuming it is aware of this, and if so any fear of personal death goes out the window, and it now only cares that the summoner lives. It's also to me not a stretch where if the Eidolon has died several times, that it knows if I'm less than half strength death rejuvenates me, and if healing is not a option the next best one is to not be desummoned but be killed. Death may be painful, true, but all adventurers deal with pain. I'm assuming the players in the world can see the rules acting on them, and I do not belive it's a stretch to say that if you know I'm hurt badly, and death means I come back stronger, you choose death.
This is just my view, but if a rule makes no sense change the rule, don't just say that the rule is stupid and using it is munchkining. And just to clarify. Kyachi isn't bothered by her death, but she is deathly afraid of Sarnak dieing or not being able to protect him.
3. One more question, I was mentioning the swap because switching the items wouldn't affect the group significantly (Can only use the spell on a Eidolon) and because given I wasn't aware of the rule I thought it made sense that if I was aware I would have bought those at the start. however, if I swap out and get straight lesser restoration scrolls, Braugh can use them, and it removes entirely the problem of how to deal with the ability damage and opens up why did I not mention them earlier?

"The riddle mentions a vessel. Maybe it is hinting towards this "vessel" of water."
Sam carefully feels the surface of the pedestal. He then tries to see if the pedestal has any moving parts or if it moves in any specific direction (without knocking it over).
A most perplexing riddle - (DM RobC) Monday May 14th, 2012 11:00:45 PM
The party consider this most perplexing riddle(Link mostly unrelated - I just really like Journey Quest)
Sam suggests that the "vessel" may in fact refer to the large bowl of water
Dernock believes the "consort" may refer to Caeroldra
Bruagh scratches the hairs on his chinny chin chin
Sarnak and Kyachi sit silently.
Delrid sighs, and drawing rope from his pack, cast Rope Trick. "Perhaps the answer will be clearer to us after we get some rest?"

This is written by or for Alemi?
Footman = Domi? Consort = Caeroldra.

Footman = Domi (fits perfectly, especially about being proud as he hates when people are insecure or have no faith in themselves.)
Consort = Maab (A chance it is Caeroldra ,but I am fairly sure the consort is Maab, as she was the consort of Eberyon and Caeroldra is more about passion and beauty.)
Keeper = Gargul (Gargul is the keeper of the dead, his holy symbol is an eye. Also, aren't his priests known as "Eyes of Gargul" which would be why they are everywhere.)
Half-God = Caeroldra (she was the first Half-Elf in the Wold and was the most beautiful person ever, also the most beautiful god.)
Alemi is the "ruler" of the gods so Devlin seems to be correct there.
I am fairly certain the "vessel" is the large bowl on the pedestal.
What I am not sure on are the "scales". Perhaps it means the 100 of each... which we are assuming money, but could be something else entirely... are to be placed in there. It could also be a refrence to Ffloy whose holy symbol is a scale, infact the High Woldian word for scale is his holy symbol so maybe it has something to do with that.
When we think we have it, Bruagh is willing to attempt the ritual to receive the blessing incase it goes wrong like when Kreyton beseeched Fhorge... that was bad.
---------------- IC:
"I think I have figured out most of this... what do you all think? Anyone have more insight into any of this, especially the scales, speak now before I attempt this ritual." Bruagh continues to rub the regrowing hairs of his scarred face.
Knowledge Religion: 10 (For knowledge about the gods and knowing his information is correct.) Knowledge Religion: 18 (To know what the scales reference might be.)

ooc- I rolled a 25 on religion earlier if that helps. Since Devlin and Bruagh seem to have the "who dun it" nailed down, I am working on the possible simple trigger for this riddle. I am wondering if this is a weight based solution. Maybe the total sum listed (400 of x) in the riddle is to be placed in the basin and then the staff manipulated. I already declared that Sam tried to manipulate the basin and stand, but did not hear a reply for his attempt.

A most perplexing riddle - (DM RobC) Tuesday May 15th, 2012 11:17:58 PM
The party continue discussing possible answers for the riddle.
Sam tries to manipulate the bowl and stand in the centre of the room. There doesn't seem to be any moving pieces or devices built into it. It is quite solid too. Only a few small ripples appear on the surface of the water, no matter how much Sam pushes or "fiddles" with the bowl.
Bruagh and Sam continue thinking a bit more about things. The staff of Gargul carved into the wall would (on the surface) appear unrelated to the current puzzle. Gargul is the god of Life and Death, but also of Insight and Travel. Though noone has dared manipulate the staff, it is possible doing so could do any number of things.

Alright everyone up inta the rope trick thing. I will take the watch and wake Bruagh to get in a few hours sleep myself.
Devlin spends most of the evening contemplating the situation at hand but his thoughts keep coming back to the Divine. Perhaps its the shrine or the room itself, or maybe its a more direct influence from those above.
He remembers the prayers said as a child to Alemi to protect him from the bullies and comments about his heritage. He remembers thinking they went unanswered. Prayer became less an less frequent until one day he decided it was not needed. That he would make his own miracles for himself and others. Along the way he learned of Wardd and his mantra of making your own luck. It stuck with him and he has used it ever since.
Shaking his head he realizes that much time has passed and he only feels more confused that when he started. With a quick prayer to the god of luck for the coming day he goes to wake Bruagh and get some rest.

OOC: If I remember correctly Sarnak has 2 points of con damage, but that's not enough to justify 400g
Sarnak would look to Dernock's offer and shrug. "I'll admit the loot compulsion was a bit odd, but I'll not turn down a offer for aid when it's needed." He would grab 400g out of Dernock's bag and drop it into the Basin, as Kyachi performed the blessing and was renewed with a surge of energy, as she jumped back for a moment before grinning. "My power returns to me." She looks over to Dernock . "Next time we have some gold I'll get Sarnak to pay you back 500g." Sarnak nods at Dernock. "Indeed." He then looks to Kyachi. "And before you say it, yes next time I will desummon you when we fight strength sapping creatures. I'm getting into the rope trick, I need a rest." He then heads up into the rope trick, as Kyachi follows as well, both quickly falling asleep within.
Sam -- 18/15/14 -- CMD 14 -- HP 15/32 Friday May 18th, 2012 6:14:12 PM
Sam takes the gp from Devlin and performs the ritual. He then climbs the rope and goes to sleep.
Bruagh Stormbringer AC 25/11/21 -- CMD 18/22 -- HP 15/53 d20=12 ; Friday May 18th, 2012 8:38:05 PM
Bruagh shakes his head as if waking from a sleep. "I apologize for zoning out. Yes, I say we give Dernock another chance. There was evil attached to that armor that is gone now. I believe he was under the effect of a compulsion magic of some sort. Devlin, wake me for my watch soon."
When awakened for his watch, Bruagh will say a quick prayer to Domi and keep his eyes peeled for any sign of danger.

Those affected by the spider poison take the opportunity to show their respects at the pedestal, and receive Alemi's blessing in the form of a restoration spell.
Dernock offers funds to whoever requires it, though Sam still has reservations about the new-comer. Bruagh and Devlin believe he deserves a second chance, and that some other force may have been behind Dernock's strange behaviour.
Sarnak and Kyachi resolve between them that the newcomers kindness should be repaid in full - with interest.
The group settle in for a few hours of safe rest before the rope trick expires.
Devlin takes the first watch, though with the lack of movement and noise from the room below, you would wonder if time had stood still.
Bruagh takes the second watch. It proves to be more... eventful.
Whilst the others rest, Bruagh notices the entry way to the room below open once more. A figure clothed completely in black enters. A hooded cloak covers its head and body, and a mask covers its face. The race of the being cannot be determined, though it would appear to be short and humanoid.
The door once again closes firmly behind them, sealing them in the room below you.
Whoever it is appears to be holding a drawn longbow, and very stealthily makes his or her way around the room below. Had it not been for the noise of the door opening, it is highly likely you wouldn't have noticed this being at all.
It clearly spots the rope that leads to the extra-dimensional space you now occupy, but for all intents and purposes doesn't appear to be able to see you.
Whoever it is seems alarmed at the discovery of the rope. It backs into a nearby corner, and aims its loaded arrow around the room - apparently searching for a target - before aiming at the top of the rope.
3 hours have passed since the party climbed up the rope. The rope trick will only last for another hour.
OOC: Anyone else notice the Pathfinder change to the Rope Trick spell? The rope can no longer be pulled up or hidden in anyway. Oooohhhhh

OOC: Delrid has a rod of extend, which if used would bump the trick to 8 hours total?
We've got company - (DM RobC) Saturday May 19th, 2012 2:57:25 AM ooc: No troubles. In that case assume seven hours have passed placing the time at around 10 - 11pm. Spells and abilities are yet to be recovered, and no natural healing as yet either.
Taggart Oathbreaker 20/15/16 - 32/32 - CMD 20 Saturday May 19th, 2012 11:53:41 AM
The dark figure quickly grabs an arrow, whispering a short word as his bow crackles with lightning. He strings the arrow, pulling it back and aiming it at the point where the rope disappears. A black, featureless mask covers his face, ending just below his nose. He has a sharp, beardless jawline, his mouth a thin line as his eyes stare at the dangling rope. His eyes match his mask, completely black and unblinking. Strapped to his thigh is a well-decorated quiver, and under his cloak and tunic you can see very fine chainmail. His bow groans as he pulls the arrow back.
He slowly approaches the Rope Trick, keeping his bow trained on it, never looking away. "Should you be friend or foe, reveal yourselves," he calls out in Dwarven. "I search for a Dwarf by the name of Dernock. Any information to his whereabouts would be appreciated. If battle be your way, then know that you will be struck down." He stops ten feet short of the rope, his bow still poised to strike.
OOC :: Hey all, I'm Ian! I play a wizard in Bonetown, and now I'm starting up my second character. Happy to be here!
Sam -- 18/15/14 -- CMD 14 -- HP 15/32 Saturday May 19th, 2012 8:26:07 PM
Sam's dreams are plagued with spiders and the feeling of his body withering away for some strange reason. He hopefully is able to sleep for 1 more hour. It would be nice to get some hp back, but more importantly my spells to heal the group.
We've got company - (DM RobC) Saturday May 19th, 2012 11:49:42 PM OOC:
Everyone please join me in welcoming Ian to the game!
Feel free to roleplay intros, treat him with suspicion, high-5s and hugs, whatever :)
Bruagh Stormbringer AC 25/11/21 -- CMD 18/22 -- HP 15/53 Sunday May 20th, 2012 1:46:48 AM
Bruagh's eyes flash gold as he attempts to detect evil on the stealthed dwarf. He prepares to rouse his comrades when he sees that the archers has noticed but waits to see what he will do. When he mentions Dernock, Bruagh holds a hand out of the rope trick and extends it. "Your friend is with us... you are welcome as well. I am Bruagh Stormbringer, Paladin of Domi. Let me help you up."
Backs against the wall with no idea how to progress... once again Domi shows the way. Bruagh can't has seen many friendly faces appear when needed most. Heck, all of those traveling with him had appeared when the situation was the most dire. In combat, when the situation was hopless or when they needed a guide, that was when a new dwarf would step forward to replace those they had lost. He wasn't about to start turning that help down now.
Taggart Oathbreaker 20/15/16 - 32/32 - CMD 20 Sunday May 20th, 2012 12:38:16 PM
The dwarf slowly lowers his bow, uttering another short word as the lightning ceases. He quickly stows his arrow and calls out, this time in common, "You speak the truth, Stormbringer. Your hospitality is much appreciated." He jogs to the rope, quickly shimmying up and accepting any and all help offered to him by Braugh. Once inside the small cavern, he pulls down his hood to reveal black, scraggly, unkempt hair, just past his ears. He also, grabs the small lenses on his eyes, pulling them off to reveal a pair of piercing green irises. However, he does no remove his mask.
"Blackaxe mentioned you, Stormbringer." The dwarf does not sit down, but stands a bit away from everyone, gazing around the room and lingering on those inside it. "Spoke rather highly of you." His eyes come to rest on Braugh, and his face softens, taking on the appearance of someone much more tired. He slumps down, not even bothering to take his armour off as he does so. He continues in Dwarven, saying, "I am Taggart Oathbreaker. I was with Dernock when we ran into some Troglodytes. I thought I was done for, and told him to go on without me. Fortunately, someone had the smarts to pack me this." He pulls a wand from his belt, twirling it in his fingers. "Then, I tracked Dernock back here."
Devlin -- 20/15/15 -- CMD 18 -- HP 29/31 Sunday May 20th, 2012 3:35:11 PM
Devlin is roused from his sleep by the sound of hushed voices. Cracking open one eye he sees Bruagh talking with a masked Dwarf. He listens to the conversation for a bit before pretending to stir and wake up. Giving the stranger a quick once over the rogue nods at the new comer.
Glad ta hear you made it out of your bind safely. Durnock its sleeping off a rather brutal fight with some giant spiders but should be up in a bit. My name is Devlin and if your intentions are true you are welcome to join our group. Not that yr may want to stay long when you find out what our plans are. He says with a chuckle.
Devlin will answer any questions Taggart might have before taking some time to mix his portions and mutagen.
Bruagh Stormbringer AC 25/11/21 -- CMD 18/22 -- HP 15/53 Sunday May 20th, 2012 5:57:19 PM "And I think highly of Blackaxe. If he trusts you, then my trust you shall have also. Looks like you could use this." Bruagh shares a bit of food he has with the Taggart.

We've got company - (DM RobC) Monday May 21st, 2012 8:45:39 PM Taggart meets the group of dwarves holed up in the rope trick. He introduces himself and appears friendly enough, but remains masked.
Bruagh and Devlin welcome the newcomer - who evidently has spoken with BlackAxe at some stage.
The others continue their slumber.
Shortly before the rope trick expires, the party climb down the rope into the empty room below.
OOC: The time is close to midnight. 8hrs natural healing can be applied to all chars. Spells yet to be recovered as it is still the same day
Dernock Uristson AC 22/14/20 CMD 20 HP 12/32 Monday May 21st, 2012 9:42:24 PM
Dernock grumbles as he is shaken awake, rolls over, goes back to sleep, gets shaken awake again, grumbles, and gets up. He yawns, eats some rations, put on his armour and greets Taggart with a hearty Evening Taggart! and does a double take.
Ha! Yer made it! Glad to see ya still Alive, mate!

ooc #1-Welcome to our group Ian!
ooc #2-Sorry for the miserable post. I am studying for an important interview tomorrow in the AM. I'll post later tomorrow with updated hp.
Bruagh Stormbringer AC 25/11/21 -- CMD 18/22 -- HP 15/53 Tuesday May 22nd, 2012 12:01:52 AM

Sarnak: AC23/15/20 - CMD17 - HP19/(33)37 Kyachi: AC20/16/17 - CMD20 - HP14(14)/38 Tuesday May 22nd, 2012 12:53:10 AM
Sarnak, at the call to move out quickly jumped out of his bedroll and set to putting it away, grabbing a ration from his bag and downing it as he jumps down the rope into the room, noticing the Dwarf in cloak who had joined them. Seeing the general acceptance by the rest of the group he looks to the man and Salutes. "Welcome, I didn't know we would be receiving reinforcements this quickly, Are you capable with healing magic by chance, or is your field somewhere else? Regardless, give me a moment, I should bring out my Companion."
He begins making several arcane gestures, as arcane writing appears beneath his feet as it writes out several incomprehensible forms, till after a minute of this rune being drawn out it completed. The rune then begins spinning rapidly on the ground, becoming a blur of purple, before sliding upwards through his form and then moving to the right a couple feet, the opening of the circle perpendicular to the ground, as a green landscape is revealed through. After a moment, Kyachi bounds into view and jumps through the portal, a copy of the earlier rune appearing on her forehead. The portal then reverts back to the blur and rapidly slows down it's spin and shrinks, before affixing itself to Sarnak's forehead as well.
Kyachi shakes herself for a moment then notices the newcomer, as she looks up and down his form for a moment before giving a fanged grin. "Welcome, More help is always great, but the moment you turn on us I'll be first in line."
As she was introducing herself, Kyachi pulled out his rod and cast extended mage armor on Kyachi, The familiar purple plates re-adorning her form once more.
OOC: Until the next day I think I still have 1 more 1st level spell, and 0 2nds.

OOC: Updating header. Also, 2 questions. 1. Does restoration give back the hp lost from ability damage? (i.e. 100 hp, at 50 because of ability damage. Does restoration just improve max hp to 100, or both max and current?) 2. Can I get a note when 8 hours have passed since this current moment? the extended mage armor will wear off then.
We've got company - (DM RobC) Tuesday May 22nd, 2012 2:46:01 AM OOC: From the SRD: "Lost hit points are restored when the damage to your Constitution is healed."
Groups call as to whether you rest further (to heal & recover spells, etc) or whether you deem time to be against you.
Taggart Oathbreaker 20/15/16 - 32/32 - CMD 20 Tuesday May 22nd, 2012 11:50:41 AM
Taggart says hello to everyone, a small smile gracing his face as Dernock greets him. "Unfortunately, my skills lie more in turning our enemies into a pincushion. I'm afraid my magic is few and far between." He replaces the black contacts in his eyes and pulls his hood up. His eyes widen as Sarnack summons his Eidolon, but he remains silent, stringing his bow and testing the tensile strength. He mutters a word in Aklo and the dark red wood sparks to life, lightning lancing up and down the bow. As Delvin asks for any input, he pauses, looking over at him. "...Let's stick with the plan Blackaxe gave us. Probably for the best."
Devlin -- 20/15/15 -- CMD 18 -- HP 31/31 d20+14=34 ; d20+8=26 ; Tuesday May 22nd, 2012 12:39:43 PM Lets move on, we can rest in a few hours ta allow the spell casters time to remember their spells. Does anyone have any argument with that?
Looking over at Taggart. I normally take the lead to scout ahead and spot traps, your welcome ta join me if ya can stay quiet enough. Devlin says with a grin and a wink.
If there is no arguments Devlin will spin the staff and wait to see what happens. If a new passage is presented to them he will take his normal position and scout ahead.
Actions: Strealth = 34 Perception = 26
OOC: Meant to post earlier that Devlin would have made another mutagen during his watch.
Bruagh Stormbringer AC 25/11/21 -- CMD 18/22 -- HP 19/53 Tuesday May 22nd, 2012 6:03:19 PM
Bruagh, as is customary, takes up position at the rear of the formation.
Sam -- 18/15/14 -- CMD 14 -- HP 15/32 Tuesday May 22nd, 2012 11:08:53 PM
Sam eyes the new arrival with concern. "I hope Devlin and Bruagh are right to trust additions to the group. "
He then decides to take a direct approach to form his own opinion. Sam hobbles over to Taggart. "Nice to meet you brother. My name is Sam SnapdragonMcFisticuff. I'm the group's gnomish bard, healer, and tactician. They keep me busy. What brings you to this miserable place?"
Once the group is under way, Sam finds his place somewhere in the middle of the pack.
ooc- Hey Ian. Now that I took my test for the job I'm going for, I can focus on posting. Sam has the bardic ability "inspire competence". It gives you +2 on most skill checks when you need it. For ease of posting, declare me using the ability if you need it. I have plenty of rounds of bardic performance/day. Don't hesitate to use it!
Dernock Uristson AC 22/14/20 CMD 20 HP 12/32 Wednesday May 23rd, 2012 7:11:06 AM
Dernock takes his place in formation, possibly between Sarnak and Fluffy. He's not sure because he still has a fair way to recover from the last battle. hopefully he'll have enough warning to get into a suitable position.
Taggart Oathbreaker 20/15/16 - 32/32 - CMD 20 d20+10=11 ; d20+16=19 ; Wednesday May 23rd, 2012 9:31:21 AM
Taggart greets Sam, saying, "The promise of battle and honour are what brought me here, Master Gnome. I hope to find both of them shortly." He takes Devlin's offer to scout ahead with them, but is perhaps still too tired from his fight with the troglodytes to do anything well.
((Stealth 11, Perception 19. First rolls of the game, and they're both atrocious.))
Bruagh Stormbringer AC 25/11/21 -- CMD 18/22 -- HP 19/53 Wednesday May 23rd, 2012 1:26:58 PM
Bruagh calls to the group. "Perhaps now is a good time to go get that armor? We could use it and if not, it will certainly help to equip those we free from the clutches of the Darkbloods."
We've got company - (DM RobC) Wednesday May 23rd, 2012 9:11:19 PM
The party get ready to move out... only, HOW do they get out?
The entrance to this room closed shut behind Taggart when he entered.
Both Taggart and Devlin look curiously at the carving of Gargul's staff - sure that it can be manipulated.
Bruagh suggests going back for the equipment the party left behind
Devlin -- 20/15/15 -- CMD 18 -- HP 31/31 Wednesday May 23rd, 2012 10:30:50 PM
OOC: In a previous post I stated that Devlin would pivot the staff on the Gargul carving. I posted a perception test in my last post as well if you need me to search it closer.
We've got company - (DM RobC) Wednesday May 23rd, 2012 10:36:24 PM OOC: Sorry, missed that bit. Very well... DM post being typed up now!
