Down on his haunches, Gerox waddles around the corner and heads south five feet and peeks around the corner into the west-leading branch. His eyes are good, but it is now totally dark. He does know that it is a corridor but it is too dark to know how far it goes.
Brom's raging adrenalline finally overcomes the poison in his body but the effort takes a toll and his swing cuts a few webs and that's about it.
As disgusting as it may be, Crag nonetheless clambers upon the dead body of Yellow Sp-T (OOC: you are now on Difficult Terrain, and 2 feet higher), and reloads his crossbow. Dem boots will need some serious cleaning.
Harvest twists and turns and hops so much that by the time she lands on the table, the webs that had clung to her have pretty much disintegrated. She is now free of webbing, and poison. She streches the wand of healing out to Brom and sends healing power from its tip into the barbarian, all the while keeping her concentration on Red Spider-Tour.
Note for Peza: I checked and Red is no longer withing Line of Sight, however a step forward should do the trick. Since Peza said 'all the while keeping an eye on her target...', I'll move Peza to L11 (5' step).
Peza reloads again, and with the confidence of an expert, she steps foward to keep Red Sp-T in view and between Crag and Harvest, plants a bolt into the middle of Red's chest.
Red falters a little and sways a bit at the mortal wound. It's eyes fade a bit but it ain't a gonner yet. She then flattens herself against the wall to let her friends pass.
Note to Bralin: since Peza had to move up to get a shot at Red Sp-T, you'll need to move past her and Brom to get to Purple Sp-T. To avoid the Table (difficult terrain), I'll put you at N12, but that will incure an AoO. It's the best I can think of and still get it done.
Bralin brushes past Peza and sidesteps around Brom to get a good attack position on the Dreaded Purple Spider-Taur. The DPS-T tries to get at the passing dwarf: Purple Spider-Taur AoO: hit AC18, miss. OOC: so the guy with the best AC has been in the back all this time? Ah, saving the best for last, eh?
Lemick 'advances foward' (OOC: i'm putting him at I11) to be available to his friends and to give Barratore some room.
Their Turn: Red Spider-Taur, feeling Death get close, lashes out in one more insane attempt to save its meal from Rumtown from the nimble woman. Bite Att Harvest hit AC7, missed. Its injuries and loss of blood are taking its toll.
Purple Spider-Taur is cornered, and it does what insane cornered creatures do, keep attacking. However its new threat is a short hairy two-legged thing. The tide has quickly turned. It is good to see her friends now enter the room. If this spiderkin would now go away, she could see to freeing the captive from the ceiling. But, that is not the spiderkin's way. It is wounded and trapped. It has little recourse save to bite and bite at its foes. Its mind can think of nothing else.
With this thought, Harvest Moon tries again to distract the spiderkin in hopes that someone else might dispatch it. She is, however, too weak from the poison, and her waving arms are listless and ineffectual. She is, however, still as nimble as ever. And, now free of the webbing, she hops dexterously away from the spiderkin to the far corner of the table.

Harvest Moon flashes a very great and broad grin at Peza as she stands over the cooling body of the spiderkin that they had both defeated. Its life fluids create an expanding pool beneath its pierced and beaten flesh. In this small moment the ways of life are on display. Some must die that others might live. Death is as much a part of life as is birth. One can but live life to its fullest within the great cycle.
"Yes, Brom. Crag Hammerfist," replies Harvest Moon, "there is but one captive within this room. There," she points at the bulge in the web above the table. Hopping up again to the tabletop, the small half-elven girl grips the webbing with her fingers and hauls back in an attempt to pull the sticky stuff free. She frowns.
"It is very tough." In her tone is very much the accusation, leveled against the recalcitrant webbing. "I will need my polearm to cut it away," she then says. "But ... Harvest Moon's nose twitches as though scenting the air as she goes from bulge to bulge seeking to discover what might be within.

Things seem eerily quiet as the group gathers themselves together and discuss what to do next. Gerox brings word of another room around the corner with potential dangers, and Barratore is enlisted to help free the one live captive Harvest has found.
Barratore finds nothing of value on the kobold guards. They may have had some, but they don't now.
The rest wait for the release of the captive and have redied themselves to adminiser any necessary aid to insure her/his survival.
The group finds themselves in a dillema. Having suffered some delibitating wounds, and now with a potentially helpless civilian on their hands, do they keep going or turn back?
For sure the town will celebrate the rescue, but what have they really found out? If they leave now, what will they find waiting for them when they return?
If they had an Oracle with them, they could ask the Oracle to cast his bones for Divine Guidance. They could flip the gnome, or a kobold, to see what to do next.

"It may ... " swing-chop " ... also be possible ... " swing-chop " ... to use their shields in our defense against them."
Harvest Moon takes a small break, resting the butt of the polearm on the floor between her feet.
"It may be possible to approach nearer by using their very large shields behind which to hide. The way is narrow up to the room, is it not? We could not attack the Small-eyes from afar when they were behind their shields. And if the Small-eyes rush to attack you with blade or claw, it would be a simple thing to abandon the shield and flee."
"But I think that we must at least see what is there," Harvest Moon adds, hefting the polearm in preparation for taking up her task again. "It is the reason we were sent. We must discover the degree to which the Small-eyes and the Spiderkin are a threat."

Between Harvest's swing of the polearm and Barratore's waiting arms, the victim is cut loose from the ceiling and unwrapped.
It is a man, a commoner. He is groggy but with the healing sent by Lemick, he looks ok. His groggy state more likely the results from poison, much like what Brom or Harvest feels, but worse since he's not used to such abuse.
Gerox searches the spidertaurs but find nothing of value. Considering their state of mind, what would have been valuable to them? Anyway, he cannot determine if the cocoons contain anything of value until they are removed and oppened up.
However, in his search, he notices that thick webbing mostly conceals an opening out of the spider room.
Bralin goes down the corridor to set up watch from a hidie-hole after Lemick gives off some healing to everyone. With the two holes in the guard room now plugged, Lemickis confident those pesky little darts won't be a bother again.
There then follows a debate as to whether gather up what they've gotten so far and report what they've found to return next day, or continue on, possibly putting at risk the one rescued Rumtowner and risking loosing their captives.
It is indeed a dilema. Brom offers to take them back and return. The villager can walk on his own, but the barbarian will have to manage three kobolds quite a distance. Not that resourceful adventurers couldn't find a way somehow.
The idea of barricading themselves in the spider room is also banted about. Any stay in the spider room now will have to wait until they find out what's on the other side of the thick webs in the north-west corner.

Once the Rumtowner is down safely, it takes little time for Harvest, Barratore, and Brom to cut the rest loose. While each one is brought down, the others cut them open and inspect them. Lastly, Harvest cuts away a 5' section of thick webbing exposing a 5' wide corridor choked with more webbing.
Barratore correctly assesses that it would take about an hour round trip for two to take the kobold captives and the rescued townsman to their headquarters. If things go as planned, that is. It seems that if this is what is decided, Brom and Lemick will be the ones.
The cocoons turn out to be interesting. One is of a lizardman type, although not of any known lizardmen you've seen before. But then again, you are on Rum, where no ones seen anything from here in quite a while.
The other is that of a human male, warrior, most likely from one of the early expeditions. The other two are kobolds. The warrior was wearing chain armor, longsword, and shield.
Bralin continues his watch.
Peza and Lemick turn the table over and place it in the doorway, creating a 3' wall blocking the entrace.
However the 'other' passage is still a mystery. Thick webbing obscure much of what is past the 5' section Harvest cleared away. Gerox casts a light spell. Upon completion of the spell, the gnome feels the magical energy issue forth then fizzle. The area remains dark.

Magic is new. Magic is miraculous. Magic is from the Wold. Magic is unbeatable. Or, so thought Harvest Moon up until this point. The whole of her attention is drawn to the point at which the magic of Gerox Shale had ... fizzled. What could do such a thing to magic? How is such a thing possible?
"Your magic, Gerox Shale," Harvest Moon points to the spot, "it fizzled. What would cause such a thing? If this is the doing of the Small-eyes and the spiderkin, they ... " Her voice goes quiet, and a concerned and thoughtful look passes over Harvest Moon's face. " ... they must be very powerful."
"Yes, I think that it would be good to send Brom and Lemick 4-Leaf Sted back to the hole in Rum. I think that you must warn them, in addition to speaking of the spiderkin, of which they already know, and the Small-eyed Kobolds, that they do not, that they also have the power to cause magic to ... fizzle. I think that they will wish to know this."
In a way, it is good that the way is blocked by webs. The Small-eyes will not likely be able to come through this way. Though, the spiderkin will likely come through their own webs with ease. Harvest Moon casts a spell of Guidance, then listens into the dark. Is there something there even now? Is there something watching from the darkness?

The darkness of the area is caused by A) lack of light, and B) the thickness of the webs prevent any other outside light (ex: Harvest's Ioun stone) from penetrating more than 5' of webbing.
Within that 5' of webbing you can see, she does not see anything but webs. On the other hand, she is aware, as most others would be also, that it is harder to look into the dark from a lit area than looking into a lit area from the dark.
Barratore takes the dessicated remains of the human warrior back to the guard room. He does not like having to defend the spider room with it's two openings even if one of them is barricaded by a 5' table. (OOC: i realized I originally wrote 3'. sorry about that). The warrior's equipment is in good shape, although the chain armor has tears in it, and dark stains.
Crag inspects the webbed area also but does not see anything that would have caused Gerox's spell to fail.
There is some disagreement on whether to turn back and rest some before going on or to keep pressing on. The loss of one hour is no big deal, but the loss of one day could make a big difference.
Peza is at first surprized to see the four dead victims and ponders why they weren't 'eaten'. But upon closer inspection, it is shown to her that they actually were 'eaten', by spider standards, that is. All that's left of them is their outer 'shell' and the solid inner structure. That is, the skin and bones. Everything else has been 'sucked out'.

Harvest Moon considers the situation while listening into the dark webbed passageway. There were many many spiderkin that attacked Rum. Many more (or so it seemed) than they had seen here today. And, it somehow seems a thing that is always true that there are more creatures when one follows in the direction from which they came. Proceeding forward could be very dangerous.
Harvest Moon bares her teeth, making a fearsome face into the darkness and webbing, before backing away and hurrying off to follow Barratore Steelwind. He is quite correct. It will be much easier to fight back against an attack of Small-eyes or spiderkin from the first Small-eyes room.
"When Brom and Lemick 4-Leaf Sted return," she says, offering her opinion, "I think that we should see what is in the room that Gerox Shale has discovered. If there is a place for a fire, then it is surely a place where they live. It is useful to see such places. Many things can be understood."
"But we must be ready to quickly flee. We can place the table into the pit," she adds. "It appears just the size to fit into the bottom of the pit. That will make it much easier to cross. And, when we check the room that Gerox Shale has discovered, we must be sure to stand some of us to guard against an attack from the room of the spiderkin. We would not wish our way of retreat to be blocked."

He also begins to think that the taking of prisoners isn't going to be very effective from this point forward. While he isn't a bloodthirsty person, the risk to himself and others is too high to simply tie enemies up in the deep underground.

Brom and Lemick make the trip back to headquarters without encountering anything unusual. The going is slow due to the kobolds, brought back to consciousness but gagged and tied, not being too cooperative in their march, and the survivor still a bit groggy from the poison.
However they reach the surface in due time.
Meanwhile, Bralin keeps watch in his alcove. Harvest decides to take a look for herself in the other room. She peeks around the corner, only realizing then that her light will give her away. Oh well, the price to pay to get the lay of the land.

The two captives may give them the information they need, but to be sure, the party needs to be extra alert to any coercive influences from other races. OoC: Can I assume that the Kobolds that were in the room are hiding and that their Stealth beat Harvest's Perception of 14? I say this because you don't have any Kobolds on the map, so I assume that Harvest sees none in the room. I'll try another Perception check with this next post anyway, but I wanted to get that assumption out of the way.
DM Ans: you may correctly assume that.

Once the table is moved, Gerox will move forward F12 to check on the others
DM Ans: oops. Sorry about that. Don't know how I missed it. Gerox does not detect any magic emanating from the webbed area, but he does sense a faint lingering aura around the spot he stood when casting his Light spell. Blood driping from her wound, Harvest Moon returns to the others. She reports the conditions of the room and the number of the enemies. She reports, additionally, the existance of an exit on the far side of the room that seems to turn in a northerly direction.
Harvest Moon heals herself with a spell, then casts Virtue.
Harvest Moon then questions the oddity of a small alcove built into the hallway. Why would they build such a thing? Shooing the two dwarves out of the place (G10) she casts a spell of Guidance then conducts a search.

Lowering his voice, "Barratore, what do you think of rushing up and pulling that axe out of the ceiling and returning it to the kobolds, smashing their defenses? Or we could do the fire thing, those tables should be pretty dry." Lemick then looks to Harvest to see if she concurs the ax could be grabbed from the ceiling.

OOC: Since we aren't in 'Rounds' yet, and posts sorta happened in a random order, I'll try to sum things up as best as can make sense.
I'll start with Harvest as she was the most active. Harvest first tries to sneak a better peek into the room. Her intent was to look quickly and then return, hoping no enemy is quick enough to catch her. Her plan is foiled by a trap she triggers. A swinging axe blade catches her in the back. She flattens herself against the wall to prevent the axe blade hitting her again in its return swing. This allows a better peek into the room. She glimpses kobolds hidding behind the overturned tables but does not have the time to count them.
As she making a quick exit she hears the sounds of the trap being reset. She joins the two dwarves in their Watch Alcove and wonders about it's nature. She starts looking for anything unusual about it whereupon Brom shows up and points out some scratches on the floor that indicate the 'boulder' that seals further progress apparently can be moved.
(OOC: I rolled seperate Perception checks for Bralin and Crag to notice this, with their +2 dwarven bonus, and rolled lousy.)
Gerox senses a lingering magical aura at the spot he tried to cast his spell. It could be the lingering effects of his own fizzled spell, though. He also detects magic surrounding the medium shield carried by the dead warrior.
Peza breaks up the chairs from the spider room and thus makes several makeshift torches.
Lemick suggest Barratore set off the swinging axe trap again and try to grab it and yank it out of its mechanizm. The minotaur is set to squeeze down the passage but before he does so it is revealed that there may be another way.
Crag and Bralin are not happy at Harvest's impetuousness but make sure no kobold comes around the corner without paying for it.
OOC: I'm holding off Barratore's action in case he wants to see what the alcove is all about. If Barratore still wants to blast into the room and stir up the hornets nest, er, kobold next in this case, repost that.
If Barratore intends to disable the trap, roll a STR check, which will act like a Disable Device, except in this case, you are triggering it and trying to catch it. You still may get hit by it, but that's the way of things.
Of course, it you think of another way to disable it, put that forward and we'll see how it works.
Here's the map. Your positions may not be correct but it's the best guess from what I got from your posts. Kobold Lair Map 2b
I may have missed something so feel free to ask questions.

"Well, I ain't seeing nothing with this rock wall, but if you think it's something that can be moved, we should take a closer look to see if we can move it. If it will get us into the kobolds easier, or from two directions, its worth checking."
Crag decides to address a tactical battle plan while the people that see something with the rock wall check it out. "If there are a dozen of the little buggers in there behind fortifications, it may be a costly battle especially with me out of healing, and Gerox out of spells as well. I think Brom, Barratore, and Bralin lead the way, and fan out into a half circle when you get in. Harvest, with the healing wand, and Lemick with his remaining healing spells, follow right behind to keep you healed as you fight. More than likely, that will fill the room, but hopefully Peza can follow that up with some ranged support from the entry way."
"That's my thought on things, anyway, take it or leave it. Odds are, one of ya is just gonna rush in anyway, and there won't be any plan."

Harvest Moon grins at Brom. It is a feral grin. It is a grin that says that they have run the quarry to ground. The grin then turns to one of thoughtful suspicion. Harvest Moon turns her gaze in the direction of the room of the spiderkin and the webbed passageway that it holds. If there is anything that her months of map drawing have told her it is that all things connect to other things.
"I think that behind this boulder is the webbed passageway," says Harvest Moon, voicing her suspicion to the others. "Peza!" she exclaims, noticing the torches. "You are very clever. Come. We go."
Taking her friend in tow, Harvest Moon returns to the room of the spiderkin and the webbed passageway. "We will burn the webbing, and it will be clear." Standing clear of the entrance, Harvest Moon tosses a torch in an underhand arc. She aims low in the webbing so that the fire can climb up. Fire is a thing that likes to climb. And as the fire burns, she listens into the passageway for the sounds of enemies who might be hiding behind or within the burning web.

I've been there lots of times. I've often wondered how to deal with it and seen some things work. What I'm referring to is when one PC states he/she goes off and does something and another PC says 'No, don't do it! Let's stick to plan...' etc.
As stands Harvest tosses the lit chair leg into the webs. There may or may not be anyone else there. Brom isn't as he's gearing up to charge into the kobold room.
In future, if you wish to stop such action, you can post that your PC 'grapples' the other PC. If such action is successful, then you stop the action. If not, the other PC completes it. This worked a couple of times in the Uncharted Lands when Jet stopped Alexi from 'breaking ranks', so to speak.
In the example above, Brom speaks as if to stop Harvest from going to the spider room and burning the webs and focus on the kobolds instead, but does not act upon that and finishes the post as if they were heading into the room with the kobolds while Harvest is in the spider room burning webs.
When playing on Table Top, a group discussion is how this is handled, but we don't have that luxury. In this case, Harvest can't retract her actions on her own. The only way to stop her is to 'grapple' her. If no one does or is unsuccessfull, she completes her action.
Does this make sense? Does this Gaming Tip help any? I thought I'd scibble this to ya as it could potentially make things easier for me as well. :)

OOC: I like the grapple concept. Does that mean the DM rolls Harvests counter-grapple, or do we have to wait for Harvest to counter.
At this point, Lemick was waiting to see what Barratore was going to do, as healing was promised should he rush in and Lemick plans to follow that plan as promised. With the group split, 2 in the crevace, 2 in the spider room, Lemick refuses to leave Barratore in the original kobold room alone.
"Errgg" in frustration manages to slip his lips. "Fifteen of us together, despite their defenses will be easy for us to take that room. The reinforcements we have brought are well rested, and they seem eager to skin some kobold," Lemick says just loud enough to echo down the hall towards the kobolds.

CO-DM JonathanT - Kobold Chamber of Horrors: 10 coupons Thursday May 17th, 2012 10:46:26 PM OOC: The 'grapple', would be an 'attack' with no AoO incured (obviously). It would be your CMB roll. The target would use his/her CMD, wich does not need a roll, so if you've posted your CMB and CMD in your header or somewhere in your post, you'l know imediately if it worked.
Other players down the line that want to help can add their 'attack' as either Aid Another or a seperate CMB roll.
If the Target PC still wants to do the action, he/she would have to then try to 'break free'.
There could be other creative ways to stop a friend. A Trip maneuver, use a whip to catch the arm or leg, etc.

While I wait for the rest to post, those going into the kobold room need to let me know how you plan to deal with the swinging axe. Are you going to try to just avoid it entirely and enter the room or is one of you going to try to disable it somehow.
Being that it swings, a successful Grab (even if taking damage) will stop it and make it harmless. A successfull Disable (for those that have the Skill) will keep it from rearming.
I also need to know which square you plan to end up in when charging in. Please don't leave me to guess which square each one is in at the end of your move.

OOC: OK, here goes. I hope I get everything right. This is my best 'quess' according to posts.
IC: The discovery of the false 'rock', the Intelligence Report from the kobold chamber, and the mystery of the webbed hallway split the party into three groups.
Although Lemick has received a potion that would help Harvest recover her strength, the Lady Monkess has decided to takle the Mystery Webbed Hall. Joined by Peza, she tosses a burning chair leg into the webs. They go up in flame instantly but more than just clearing out the webs from the hallway, the fire flashes across the ceiling burning the webbing there as well. Although the fire does not pose a danger to the two ladies, there is quite a bit of smoke. Visibility is cut to what one would experience while in a Fog Cloud except the air is smoky and hard to breathe (Fort check DC12 or experience a coughing fit for 1 round, -2 to hit and AC. New save each round while in effect). Smoke Duration = 2 rounds
While the fire rushes through the room and hallway, Harvest hears a voice down the hall utter some words in an unknown language, although it has the pattern of spell casting. The light of the fire reveals that the hallway is short and either opens up to another room or turns south. The fire does not travel that south part. It appears that there were no webs in that direction. Then the two hear a horse voice speak Common, "Go Away! Leave or DIE!" through some hacking and coughing. For check = 11
Note: you are under the effects of Fog Cloud + smoke inhallation for a round or two until the smoke clears.
Crag and Bralin wait in their spot to see who's going to be needing help the most. OOC: BTW, Crag and Bralin may roll 'Active' Perception checks on the alcove if they wish, while they wait. My secret roll I made was for 'Passive' Perception that all dwarves get under the current circumstances.
Lemick tries a ruse by 'announcing' the presence of a multitude in the hallway just waiting to slaughter the kobolds Bluff DC13. Sense Motive -1 = 11
By some of the chittering or chattering, Lemick's ruse may have had some effect.

Barratore follows Brom. The minotaur, squeezed, suffers from the confined space as the axe swings in his direction. (OOC: -4 on attack and -4 on AC, apply the -4 to your Grapple check if you are going to try to catch it. If you do catch it, that'll end your move and I'll update the map, otherwise he'll be in the room with Brom.)

OoC: Can you resolve the actions of Harvest and Peza? And what happened to the Axe trap? What happened after Barratore grappled it?
DM Ans: getting there. :) Harvest and Peza's actions are this coming round (ie. they tossed the torch this previous round, then they'll move). I thought that now that you could see the room (as the fire burned) you have a better idea of what's there in case you wanted to change your actions a bit.
Waiting on Barratore to tell me if he's going to try to stop the axe or just plow through. Due to his size, he'll stop the axe either way, it's just a matter of whether he takes damage or not.

Crag feels Bralin's tap, and understands his meaning. He calls out down the hall to Gerox and Lemick. "Looks like you guys stick with Brom and Barratore, Bralin and I are going to help out Harvest and Peza. They just couldn't withstand the lure of trouble."
Crag shakes his head to himself and mumbles "Just because there is a shiny red button, doesn't mean you have to push it.", and moves down the hallway after Peza and Harvest with Bralin.

Further OoC: I doubt that the moves of either Harvest or Peza will change. From the map, it doesn't look as though the previously webbed passageway connects with the room in which Brom and Barratore are fighting. But, the fact that there is a voice coming from this passageway means that there is something here that could potentially come around and flank us. That means it must, at least, be discovered and assessed, if not directly confronted.
DM: I'm trying not to get their (Party B) turn and your turn (Party A) offset. Hopefully I'll have Barratore's post later today and I can resolve Harvest-Peza together with the others.

Fog Cloud 2/2: A bank of fog billows out from the point you designate. The fog obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature within 5 feet has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker can't use sight to locate the target).
All those in area of effect: Fort check DC12 or experience a coughing fit for 1 round, -2 to hit and AC. New save each round while in effect.
OOC: only need, Crag, and 'The Thing'. Peza and Harvest already done did both theirs.
Recap: Round 1 Harvest lights the webs and creates a smoke hazard, saves vs. smoke inhallation etc. Brom, Barratore, charge into the kobold room. Barratore uses his Move action moving into the trapped hallway and Standard action to 'grapple' the swinging axe (no dmg taken).
They do their thing.
Round 2: OOC: Need Fort checks for smoke inhallation for all those in the spider room for Round 2. Smoke will dissipate enough at end of this round. (already have Peza and Harvest, just need Crag's)
Peza motions to Harvest that she's going forward to confront the source of the warning and Harvest agrees but takes the initiative and beats Peza intot he short hallway. It is only 10' long and by the light of brief web fire, appears to either open up into a room or widen and turn south.
The smoke obscures all vision beyond 5' and Harvest is trying her best to move stealthily. Peza follows right behind. The caughing stops (OOC: see Fort save below) and when Harvest reaches K8, she is suddenly confronted by a faintly glowing vaugely humanoid shape. Due to the smoke, no true details can be made but Harvest punches out at it and (Concealment 20% miss chance = 2) misses.
Peza, crossbow ready, can't see it due to the smoke but knows something is there because she sees Harvest punch at something. She just aims into the smoke and fires (50% miss chance = 39) and hears her bolt hit the solid wall they saw further down.
Crag finds his way to Peza by memory of the room layout, managing to circumvent dead spider-taurs without embarrassing himself.
Party B: Note A_ sorry i missded Barratore's first post. Note B_ Intimidate: Using Intimidate to change an opponent's attitude requires 1 minute of conversation. Demoralizing an opponent is a standard action.
Brom threatens the kobolds with words and actions but his kukri is easily blocked. It is hard to hit a shorty behind a solid wooden wall. (OOC: If you want to Intimidate, you'll have to use a Sandard Action).
Barratore roars into the room in fury, pounding a mighty fist on the adjacent wall. (Intimidate DC10 = 19, 'victims' shaken for 2 rds). Shaken 1/2: A shaken character takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.
DM Note: hey, how am I supposed to get a hit now? N20?
Bralin follows in Barratore's wake and feels the minotaur's fist shake the wall. Stopped short behind the minotaur, he notices the axe blade begin to crank back up into the ceiling. Does he try to grapple it to keep it from resetting?
Gerox and Lemick wait their turn for the kobold slaughter. (OOC: tell me who's to go after Bralin and who's to take up the rear.
Their Turn: Spider Room: Fort DC12= 24. The faintly glowing, vaguely humanoid shape takes a swing at Harvest (20% miss chance = 34), Hit AC19. Harvest feels a 'chill', Will save DC13.
The smoke now dissipates and you are confronted with a semi-transparent faintly glowing, vaguely humanoid shape.
Kobold Room: Barratore's 30' rad Intimidation effect pretty much covers the whole room and the kobolds shake in their boots (if they have any). But they have numbers too.
K7j and K8j poke a Brom with javelins: hit AC18-2 -2 =14, and hit AC4 - 2 -2= 0. OOC: ignore the d3 dmg roll.
K1j, K2j, and K4j poke at Barratore with their javelins: hit AC20-2-2 = 16, dmg 2; hit AC8-2-2=4; hit AC4-2-2=0.
K3j steps to Z15 and throws his javelin at Barratore and K5j steps back to Y14 to throw his javelin at the minotaur also. Hit AC4-2=2 and hit AC5-2=3.
K9j steps to Z11 and throws his javelin at Barratore along with K10j, hit AC3-2=1 and hit AC5-2=3.
OOC: ok guys, notice anything here? look at the rolls! and they get -2 for Shaken and some get another -2 for squeezed! For crying out loud!
K11s steps back to Y12 and lets loose a sling-stone at Barratore while k16b pokes his blowgun through a gap in the table planks and shoots a dart at the minotaur; sling hit AC22-2=20, dmg 1; dart hit AC17-2 = 15, dmg 1 + save vs Poison Fort DC12, fail take 3pts STR dmg.
The other slingers fling stones at the minotaur (I wonder why...): K12s sling att hit AC16-2=14 K13s sling att hit AC14-2=12 K14s sling att hit AC6-2=4 K15s sling att hit AC22-2=20, dmg 2.

The chill is not so cold. Harvest Moon shrugs it off. The smoke is clearing. In the light of her ioun magic, Harvest Moon surveys the situation. (Note that I've had the Ioun Torch up for a few weeks. It's in the Active Effects section below.)
"There is no way around, Crag Hammerfist," she calls back. It is good to know that Crag Hammerfist is here with them as well. But in this very tight passageway it will be difficult for them to fight as a team of friends. I a fashion, though, this is good. Peza will be protected, and she will be able to shoot without risk. It will be difficult to fight this thing with her failing strength. But, at least Peza will be protected.
Through the clearing smoke, Harvest Moon lunges forward with a punch. The punch misses the Glowing One, but Harvest Moon takes the opportunity to glance around the corner before drawing back to a fighting stance.
What is here? Is there only this one? And what is it, this creature that glows? Harvest Moon eyes it as the smoke clears. Thelonious had spoken many times of ghosts and such. But, at the moment, Harvest Moon can remember none of the stories.

By the light of Barratore's lantern, the WLA'ers are not daunted by the sheer number of the pesky kobolds. But the battle has only just begun. Will the kobolds win by attrition? Will the WLA'ers win by sheer luck, er..., might?
Barratore serves as a pincushion for no better reason than he's the biggest, baddest, meanest, thing to threaten them since who-knows-when. (OOC: I don't even know). The minotaur tries to exact revenge, but he finds it very difficult to gore a kobold hiding behind a solid table. The Unfortunate little cretin was fortunate this time.
DM OOC: using your post where you are holding the lantern and goring AC17.
Brom steps to his left and tries to snag K7j but hits only table. The kobld would laugh and jeer but he's not in the mood for that righ now with the towering minotaur right behind the human.
Bralin flattens himself against the wall to stay out of the path of the swinging axe and casts a Light spell on his shield, letting the axe retreat into the crevace in the celing. Finally some light that's not bobbing around at the end of an excited minotaur's hand.
Gerox peeks around the corner hoping to shed even more light. He wants to hit the far table but sees that to do so he'd have to squeeze with Bralin (OOC: 30ft range, table 'face' is at edge of X13,14). Then he'd have to also toss it through the collossus Minotaur. However, Bralin just lit up 20' rad of the room. So he waits for a better use of his little fireball. (OOC: Lemick sets a Firebeetle in the back of the room wich now gets the room all lit up with both lights. I thought you might want to save the fireball for a better target other than just getting some light in the room.)
Lemick 4-leafSted tries for some more excitement by adding a summoned [i]Firebeetle[/b] in the back row. Between the Firebeetle light, Bralin's shield, and Barratore's lantern, the rool is now well lit. The ferocious Firebeetle tries to snip at K11s but misses horribly.
Crag, afraid he'll miss a battle and let the women fight for him, yells at Harvest to try to get past the semi-transparent faintly glowing, vaguely humanoid shape in front of her.
Harvest is used to light chills, having run around naked, or with little clothes, a lot and is unfazed by the 'touch'. The smoke now clears and the semi-transparent faintly glowing, vaguely humanoid shape stands menacingly in front of her. She tries once more to connect with something 'solid' but leaves whisps of smoke in her fist's wake instead. However she does have the presence of mind to peek around the corner. By the light of her ioun stone above her head, she can now see the rest of the place, and its occupant.
On the ceiling, upside down, hunched in the top corner, (J9), is another Spider-Taur! This one is totally black. It's spider abdomen and it's humanoid skin are all black. Sharp angular face and pointy ears, red eyes, sharp teeth, stare back at her!
Harvest manages to yell out to Crag that the area is closed off, there is no way around like she thought.
Crag hurries back to the alcove hoping to discover the nature of the rock and the scratches on the floor. But the nature of the rock eludes him in his haste.
Peza tries to get a shot past the bouncing monk and suffers the humility of rolling a N1 on an attack. (OOC: roll %dice, under 50 the string breaks, over 50 crossbow is ok).

Harvest Moon once again shakes off the chill. "Peza, we must draw back," she says from the corner of her mouth as she snarls at both the Funny Glowing Man and the Black Magic Spiderkin.
She draws the wand of Torian Silverleaf and uses it to sooth some of the burns from the magic of the Black Spiderkin. Then Harvest Moon begins sidling backwards, nudging at Peza to shift slowly backwards, the small bumps and touches adding to the urgency of her words.

Magic missile and color spray are his only choices. Cantrips are message, detect magic, light, mage hand, and predistigation are unlimited. Barratore gets frustrated at the supperb defenses of these pesky things and takes a knotch out of a table. Whitle a table to kindlin may be the only way to get past them.
The Fire Beetle (Round 2/2) attacks K16b (the table legs do not hinder the beetle) and its sharp mandibles manage to take a chunk out of the kobold's leg.

*Thrup*
It is not a big sound. Nor is it a particularly alarming sound. But it is a very disheartening sound, as Harvest Moon can think of only one thing that can make such a sound as that. Peza can no longer shoot. If that is true, then there is only one course of action open to them.
"Peza, we must flee. Go. We must return to Rum and tell them what we have found. Gather the others. If we do not escape, all of this will be lost."
Harvest Moon once again uses the wand of Torian Silverleaf. The terrible burns from the magic of the Black Spiderkin melt away but they are taking their toll. She springs back from the Glowing One and dodges around the corner to find the gnome, Gerox Shale.
"Go!" There is not time for few words beyond that. "I will hold them back," she adds, then waits for the Glowing One and the Black Spiderkin to come around the corner.

The sounds of magic come from the opening down which Harvest and Peza are emerging. But the sounds themselves tell the gnome little of what the magic actually is.

The Dwarf turns and moves back to join Harvest, Gerox, and Peza. As he rounds the corner, he sees the retreat in progress. If he can get to her with his move, he will move next to Peza, and her unusable crossbow.

Brom takes a step to his left and changes targets in hopes of changing luck, but the blood of his foe still eludes his kukri.
Harvest smarting seriously from the magic missiles, encourages Peza and Gerox to heed the spider-taur's advice and flee, then heals herself some.
Gerox decides to help Harvest cover their retreat and readies his own magic missile spell to cast as soon as 'the thing' comes out of its little room.
Crag realizes the truth about the 'rock' and upon hearing Gerox sound the retreat, balks at it. Instead he goes to join them. (OOC: double move - 40'- puts him at M10.) The dwarf offers his crossbow to Peza.
Peza accepts Crags crossbow. With Crag stretching his arm out with it and Peza stretching her arm out to get it, she doesn't need to move from her spot. She then loads the crossbow. (OOC: A Move to get the crossbow and a Move to load it. Shoot next round, you can keep this roll).
However, now that Harvest has stepped around the corner, her light does not reach the back end of the room where the creature hung on the wall, a black thing in a black corner. The glow of the glowing thing is only 5'.
Bralin with only a couple table legs to hinder him, manages to swing his axe between the legs and catches the kobold solidly, slicing him into an upper half and lower half.
Lemick steps forward to the entrance to the kobold room and begins to cast a healing spell on Barratore. In his excitement he forgot about the Swingin Axe trap that Bralin had allowed to reset into the ceiling. His weight, at some point, triggers the trap and the blade comes swinging down! Lemick stops the axe with his back.
If you take damage while trying to cast a spell, you must make a concentration check with a DC equal to 10 + the damage taken + the level of the spell you're casting. If you fail the check, you lose the spell without effect.

DM Ans: found this from May 16 With that said Peza starts to gather torches ... broken pieces of wood There is no response that Gerox added any oil to any of the sticks. From that, the 'torch' tossed into the webs was a chair leg that was lit, not an actual torch. The little fire from the chair leg, if it didnt' go out while laying on the ground, would not light up much, probably a 5' area.
Peza Friday May 25th, 2012 5:43:08 AM
OOC : hmm Was Crag's crossbow loaded ? or unloaded ... if Crag has it loaded then Peza should be able to shoot
DM Ans: I thought about that while brushing my teeth and the 30sec it took me to fall asleep. My conclusion is that:
A) you can't have a loaded crossbow strapped to your back, the bolt would easiy fall off. It could be cocked, though, but the PC has to state he's cocking the thing before putting it away. Otherwise it's assumed to be uncocked. The jostling of combat could easily cause the release of the trigger also.
B) Crag technically oculd not hand you the crossbow as he's already used all his actions, 2 Move actions. Unstrapping the crossbow and handing it to Peza would be an extra Move. And he didn't know Peza was going to ask for it until he finished his move, othewise he could have drawn it while moving.
C) for play sake, I had Crag give Peza the crossbow when she asked for it, but Considering B), she would not be able to shoot that same round, either she would have to crank it and load it still, or Crag could not technically give it to her until the first of the next round. Either way, she'd not get to shoot until the next round.
Make any sense?

Brom decides a different tactic. Dropping behind his shield, he attempts to bull rush the table and the kobolds behind it into the wall. (Table he's been attacking. Don't know of they would get aoo because of Amy cover the table provides to us?)
Atk: cmb + roll = 19 vs cmd of kobolds and table. DM Note: I'll need to see if the AoO is a hit: If you are hit by the target, you take the damage normally and apply that amount as a penalty to the attack roll to perform the maneuver. But this should work to push the table up to where the legs hit the wall. That'll leave a little space for the kobold, but it will be 'squeezed'. STR check vs breaking table against wall = dc12

DM Ans: I agree, but here's the difference. Notice the recent post: K16b shoots a dart at Brom between a gap in the table top planks, hit AC9. In other previous posts I also described the tables as having gaps between the planks. To make it simpler, here's the quote from the module:There are holes in the tables for the kobolds to stab at any hero (Heroes don't get the Cover bonus).
Had this not been in the module, the normal Cover rule would certainly apply. :}

OoC: So, if we used piercing weapons, could we negate whatever AC or Cover provided by the tables?
DM Note: from my understanding of how it is described in the module, perhaps a hafling or gnome could do so with piercing weapons of short sword or longer, but not a Medium sized person unless they get down on their knees to attack. But then, attacking on your knees would incures its own penalties.

Ooc: it doesn't make any sense, but fine. I'll make sure Brom's legs are lined up perfectly with the tiny holes so as to not affect how the module was written. By the way Brom is 78" tall. Should something waist high obstruct my swings? What of Barratore?
CO-DM JonathanT - Kobold Chamber of Horrors: 10 coupons Monday May 28th, 2012 2:00:41 PM DM OOC: to all I tried to describe the gaps in the table slats as per the module. As far as making up rules, I'm following the module description. You can take that up to who wrote it. :}
That i know of, damage is not location specific unless you have a called shot, which, in Pathfinder, is an Optional Rule that I dont' know if we are using. So all the jabbing damage would be to the legs, but, hey, who's keeping track of location? Otherwise your movement would be hindered some.
Cover works the same whether the creature is 2 feet tall or 10 feet tall. Yeah, I know, logically it would seem that a towering 10' tall PC should be able to just reach over the cover of a 2 foot tall kobold and bop him, but:
Cover: When making a melee attack against an adjacent target, your target has cover if any line from any corner of your square to the target's square goes through a wall (including a low wall).
And: Big Creatures and Cover: Any creature with a space larger than 5 feet (1 square) determines cover against melee attacks slightly differently than smaller creatures do. Such a creature can choose any square that it occupies to determine if an opponent has cover against its melee attacks.
So: Kobolds are 2 feet tall, the tables tops are wider than 2 feet, so when on their side, the cover provided by the table tops is taller than 2 feet, providing cover to the kobolds. The table tops are made of planks which are not joined together in the middle of the table to form a 'solid' top, but there is a gap in the middle of the table that is wide enough (say, about a foot wide gap) for their javelins to poke you with.
However, I just read that since the minotaur has Reach, that would bypass the cover for all adjacent foes. On the other hand, rolls have been so bad I don't know if that would help Barratore much. From this round forward, if Barratore attacks an adjacent kobold behind the table wall, he will ignore the cover.
But this only applies to those Big Creatures that have Reach. A 10' PC that does NOT have Reach, still has to suffer the cover AC.
I will backtrack to see if any of Barratore's attacks would succeed and if that would make any HP difference.
Good thing I was too busy to post yesterday.
I hope that answered the questions. As far as how the module was written, I'm doing my best to stay true to the writer's vision.
CO-DM JonathanT - Kobold Chamber of Horrors: 10 coupons Monday May 28th, 2012 6:22:52 PM
OOC Update: I looked at all of Barratore's attacks. First att was at K8j, 2sq away, so cover was still effective (has to be adjacent to use Reach to nullify the cover), then there were some confirmed misses (miss even without cover), and a kill, poor kobold wasn't even behind cover.
Amid the confusion in the Spider-taur room, Gerox yells back to the Kobold room battle that there is no retreat from the spider-taur room. More likely, no one in the kobold battle heard the Gerox's call in the first place.
Gerox wants to make sure they keep sight of the black spider-taur and moves to behind Peza and and remembering his spell fizzling in the short hall before, casts Light on the wall next to him instead, a good position to provide even dim light all the way back to the wall of the little room.
OOC: Barratore's light went out a long time ago. Gerox had cast it when Barratore was waiting back at the narrowing of the tunnel. That was more than an hour ago. His Light spell does not last that long. Light lasts 10min/lvl. But Bralin has Light on his shield so they are ok there.
IC: The black Spider-taur is no longer visible. Gerox, with his Darkvision, sees the back wall but does not see the eight legged creature.
Peza realizes that their foe is more than they can handle and stepping away, she encourages the others to leave so they can be of help to the others instead of being dead there.
Crag asks some very good questions concerning the semi-transparent faintly glowing, vaguely humanoid shape. Is it real? Has it attacked anyone? Stay tunned for the answer. The dwarf, though, is keen on a strategy withdrawl from the room and see what happens. Having said that, he goes to the far wall and channels healing energy to his friends. He looks to see if the glowing thing is affected in any way and it appears it is not affected.
Harvest uses the healing wand on herself and that brings her up to full health. Stepping into Peza's vacated spot, the monk confronts the semi-transparent faintly glowing, vaguely humanoid shape and, though not holding a Staff of the Magi to bang on the floor, says, "You will not pass!".
Harvest is taken aback at Peza's sudden change and wonders why. Action: Trying to gain information with Sense Motive generally takes at least 1 minute, and you could spend a whole evening trying to get a sense of the people around you.
DM OOC: what do you think? Harvest used a Standard to heal with wand and Move to 5' step into square in front of Glowing One. A whole minute would be too long but how about your Standard for next round?
In the Kobold Room: DM Note: the Kobolds are AC15, behind the tables, AC19. Barratore can ignore the wall AC on adjacent targets.
Barratore wisely steps back nearer Lemick and takes a swing at the kobold poking at his rear. His axe slices the air right above the Kobolds head. Good thing he didn't grow to 3' tall.
DM Note: Brom, before you read the following, I may have misread your action. I had thought you were attacking K10j and resolved the action with that table. After I had resolved it for that table, I realized that his last attack was on a different kobold, K16b. However your statement "he attempts to bull rush the table and the kobolds behind it into the wall...", being the only table with 'kobolds', ie K10j and K8j, I resolved the action vs that table. I'm sorry if that happens to be the wrong one.
Brom has a 'torch' pop up over his head and instead of attacking the cowardly kobolds, he presses his shield up against the 3' tall table 'wall' and pushes with all his might. The table scoots a few feet back until the short legs hit the wall. This does not exaclty pin the small kobold, but makes it difficult for him to wield his javelin. However, while being pushed back, the kobold K10j, (tries to jab his javelin over the top of the table at Brom's head.) goes wide-eyed at the prospect of getting squished.
AoO: K10j hit AC7. DM OOC: after I rolled, I realized this one had dropped his javelin. DOH!
The table legs hold, unfortunately, otherwise the kobold would be pinned.
DM Note: Since you can't occupy the same space at the end of the round, I have Brom in the same spot, however notice the table moved back some. Also notice the gap exposing K9j.
Lemick having forgotten about the swinging axe trap, walks right into it and has his healing spell spoiled by an axe in his back. By the time he recovers from the DOH! moment, the minotaur has stepped back towards him and he manages to heal the minotaur some.
OOC: DM note_ no Concentration check necessary as Barratore moved back.
Lemick hears the cranking sound of the axe beginning its trip back up into the ceiling.
Their turn: Barratore glimpses K17b cranking a handle in the wall while trying to avoid little javelins poking through the gap in the table slats. K1j att hit AC8 K2j att hit AC5 K4j att hit AC6
DM Note: here we go again... sigh...
K3j, having already thrown his spare javelins, holds his action. K6j tries to keep his little torch lit.
K8j tries to duck out of the way of the scooting table so as not to get 'squeezed': Ref DC10 = 13. He moves to C11 and attacks Bralin. Hit AC5. Note: no cover vs Bralin but cover vs others.
K10j, unable to go one way or the other, scrambles for his javelin. Brom gets an AoO. Then, if still alive, tries to jab at Brom despite the confined space. What else is he to do? Att hit AC14-4=10.
K9j, suddenly exposed, jabs hurridly at Brom, hit AC2 (N1 roll 78, manages to keep hold of javelin). In his haste he nearly looses his grip on his javelin!
K16b tries to prick Brom with a poisoned dart, hit AC8.
K11s shifts his attention to Brom and sends a stone at the barbarian, hit AC7.
The rest of the slingers keep their attention on the minotaur: K12s sling att Barratore hit AC23, conf crit = 20, crit confirmed, dmg 5 K13s sling att Barratore hit AC21, dmg 2 K14s sling att Barratore hit AC13 K15s sling att Barratore hit AC14-4= 0. (N1 %roll = 3)
K15s' sling stone hits the wall on his left and bounces back, hit AC10, and nearly hits himself with his own stone.
DM Note: I think my die roll problem is that the die roller is exhausted by 11:00pm and just can't get going. :(
Spider-Taur Room: Although unseen, the party hears the familiar unfamiliar language uttering magical words. Then darkness engulfs the area again. This time, Gerox's Darkvision cannot penetrate the darkness. Not only that, but his new lit wall becomes vewy, vewy dim! Oh, and the glowing thing vanishes. And the sputtering table leg.
Oh, and the whole entire spider-taur room, dims.

Even more embarrassing is the fact that he now realizes that he can see perfectly well in this dim light, and she's right there in front of him. Big as ... well ... Big ... as ... A flush creeps into the gnome's cheeks.
"Well, shall we go back and rescue Harvest? Er, excuse me again." Gerox pushes past Peza again, but this time careful to avoid contact with her body. "I think she needs it," he calls back over his shoulder.

Gerox backs up to provide space for Peza, then, "Lets see how you like this," he says under his breath. With a gesture, the gnome sends a ball of fire at the black spidertaur on the ceiling. All it needs is a touch, to burn and burn and burn.

(OOC: What were the ceiling heights in here, and down the Spider taur hallway?)
DM: we had the ceiling in the spider-taur room, including the side room, at 15'. The hallway leading out to the rest of the complex, the kobold guardroom and dinning hall are only 10'.

Brom moves up to engage the sligers and with that, Barratore also then steps forward. The room has exploded with the sounds of combat, yet Bralin is engaged with but one foe. Frowning at the thought, the dwarf looks over his shoulder at his comrades, and is immediately moved to action by the condition of Barratore.
Stepping directly away from the kobold, Bralin drops his axe, and casts a spell on the taur
[Move to C13. Cast CLW on Barratore - 4 hp healed]
[3 lvl 1 spells cast so far]

OOC: I've asked some Private DM questions, I'm hoping to get answers too. I asked prior to Barratore posting/movement, so I'm hoping I can act -- prior to Barratore's turn.

DM OOC: i typically compile your posts in Notepad first, check for last minute posts, then copy/past what I've written into the Woldian Editor, then play the enemy's turn.
I'm fixin' to start and I'll check again off and on for new posts.

DM OOC: I think we got the Burst vs Emanation vs Spread question answered. Channelling energy is described as a Burst, so treat it's effects as such. A burst spell affects whatever it catches in its area, including creatures that you can't see. It can't affect creatures with total cover from its point of origin (in other words, its effects don't extend around corners). and so forth...
