Vorelle hangs back. One very forcible lesson she's had in the last 24 hours is that she isn't much good all on her own. And if she's the only one who makes it through the door.....no. She needs to wait for the others.
The thing is, Vauhwyt, she replies to her friend's suggestion, I can only see because of Jass's Darkvision spell. An antimagic field will take that away, won't it? I think I'd rather be able to see.

Sir Joshua continues along, noting the various tracks. He didn't have any experience with some of these old foes this group fought but he's looking forward to finishing off the last 2 guardians...

"You can only have one light spell active at any one time. If you cast this spell while another casting is still in effect, the previous casting is dispelled. If you make this spell permanent (through permanency or a similar effect), it does not count against this limit. Light can be used to counter or dispel any darkness spell of equal or lower spell level."

Unless someone spent a kings ransom on the spell it will not be larger than the foyer. Sir Joshua has apparently thought through his combat effectiveness without gear. I have roughly an equal chance to Aztyr's of fighting successfully in melee in an Anti Magic Field. That's why I don't cast it when you think it'd be cool. I like being able to make my save, hit things in combat, break their DR and actually hurt them. During the devil fight why on earth would I have given them what they were striving every round to achieve, me without buff spells? You would like me to move the field to keep you covered. Other than harsh language what would we use against an ancient, spelled up, incorporeal, (most likely) cleric? We would have 1 bow that would need to break DR, 2 spellcasters who would need to penetrate a massive Spell Resistance and alot of melee sitting on their hands." "If alot of us need to make it through and can't save I will likely have to fire up the Anti Magic Field. Malgant is unprepared for the Forbiddance effect. His Will buckles and he is pushed back out the door, taking damage in the process. If he wishes to proceed, there are few options but to try again.
Aztyr attempts to trick the Forbiddance using the same skill she would use with a magic item. It's a bold plan, and innovative. However, the Forbiddance is no magic item. Aztyr is no more able to hide her true nature from it than she would be able to hide it from the supernatural sight of a paladin. Aztyr feels the force of the Forbiddance hit her as she attempts to cross the threshold. (Aztyr Take 26hp damage and be pushed back out the door. Will Save vs DC24 for half damage and the push is negated.)
Vauhwyt concocts an elaborate plan. She casts a spell upon herself, but does not test the doorway.
Vorelle hangs back too, waiting to see whether everyone will be able to make it through the doorway before attempting it herself.
Sir Joshua pushes through, and into the Forbiddance. It costs the paladin a bloody nose, but he is now in.
Sir Joshua stand within the foyer. Nothing more untoward appears to happen to him. The rest of our heroes still remain outside.

Brahmah sees nothing in the tracks that Vorelle did not before. He casts a spell upon himself that make his blades more deadly. He, however, remains outside of the door.
Jass tries to take the Forbiddance down entirely. His power gathers. It's strong. But nothing happens. Jass gets the feeling that he is personally not yet strong enough to defeat the power of the mage who put this spell in place. No matter how well he performs, he will not be able to take down this spell without progressing in power himself.
Vorelle steps up next, and she makes it through.
Sir Joshua casts about for evil. His senses detect nothing specific beyond the background evil of the castle itself. But ... (could it be his imagination?) In some way, the evil feels stronger.
Vauhwyt and Mookie make it into the Foyer as well. Only Aztyr views the passage of her fellow liontaur, though. She is the only one who can see the invisible.
Aztyr gets through the Forbiddance also. Now inside the foyer, she looks around for whomever it might have been that cast the spell. She gets a pretty good look around. The room isn't very big. She's sure she's taken in everything. But there is no sign of anyone but herself and her fellows from Blackbird Lake.
Malgant tries again. This time, ready for what is coming, he succeeds and forces his way through. Malgant looks about as well. He finds no traps. A closer examination of the small knife reveals that some of the spots upon the knife are not rust. Rather, they are spots of dried blood, albeit very old dried blood. The dirty water in the pool opposite the altar turns out to be little more than dirty water, though. Malgant's studies of religion tell him that the pool and altar may have been set in the foyer for supplicants to cleanse themselves. Though, it is only the more extreme religions that require that cleansing be done with blood.
Jass follows and is also in.
Brahmah casts another spell, but still remains outside of the doorway.
The foyer is quickly filling up. Taurs take up a lot of space. In fact, it can be said to be exceedingly tight in there even without Brahmah.
The two doors in the west wall await.

OOC I think I neglected to take my damage from the 2nd try. Header is correct now. Brahmah, Bear's Endurance does nothing for you. The +4 enhancement bonus on your belt does not stack with the spell. They don't stack, you either get one or the other. Also, review your character sheet. It looks like you are cheating yourself out of strength and dexterity bonuses you deserve and some of your other stats look off too.

OoC to Brahmah and Vauhwyt: Actually, I hadn't read Malgant's post very carefully until now. I misunderstood the mistake you were talking about. That Bear's Endurance thing is not something that most people would do. But I can't really set a precedent for going back like that. What I can do is to allow you to designated the spell as having been cast on someone else in the party. Pick someone else in the party and they will have the spell. At least, in this way, it will not have been wasted.

OOC Mookie doesn't have a + con item that I know of. I do, Aztyr does, but that's all I know without reading character sheets. Almost all your stats look right, I'll email you after I write this with what I am seeing. I might just be missing something obvious.
IC Once the Ranger steps inside, Malgant tries something he isn't sure will work, given the altar and the pool. But he and his friends need to be healthy for this so it is necessary. Calling upon Imod, Malgant channels positive energy through his holy symbol and out into the room. His intent is to heal his friends. He intends to include himself. Everyone heals 15 damage ( we reroll 1's for healing right?) If that is successful, Malgant then opens one of the normal doors and squeezes through, moving to the side to allow the others past him.

Malgant looks to undo much or all of the damage done by the Forbiddance. Despite his misgivings, the positive energy floods the foyer and heals both he and his friends. (Yes, reroll 1's.) Then, he opens the nearest door and squeezes through.
Jass makes a suggestion based on his best guess as to the sadism of the designer.
Sir Joshua moves, but maintains his concentration on the evil of Scarwall. He finds that the altar next to which he has decided to stand is more evil than its surroundings. Aside from that, there is nothing. In the experienced estimation of the Shining Knight, the walls are likely too thick to be penetrated by his special sight.
Vorelle does her own brand of detection. She listens at the door, but hears nothing from beyond.
Brahmah tests his will against the Forbiddance and triumphs. It is now extremely crowded. Brahmah keeps his senses on the alert. He detects nothing amiss yet.
Aztyr uses her Arcane Sight to search for magic sign. She finds that the only aura in this room is that of the Forbiddance. There are no auras on either of the doors.
Vauhwyt, invisible to all but Aztyr, follows Malgant through the door. She too finds things a bit tight for a taur.
Beyond the door that Malgant has opened the hallway goes in two directions. To the south a doorway faces the group. To the west the end of the hallway is flanked by two separate doors, one on either side. The hallways themselves are quite comfortable for the humans in the party. But they are narrow for a taur, Malgant finds himself having to squeeze through. (All Large creatures suffer Squeezing penalties in the hallways. Each move into or through the hallways counts as if it were 2 squares. Also -4 to Attack and -4 to AC.)

She casts Greater Invis on Mookie. Vauhwyt keeps her Light spell out of the room. Mookie's darkvision may see anything there is to see.

Brahmah activates a magic item that allows him the See Invisibility spell. He looks about for danger and detects nothing in as far as that goes. He draws his weapons none the less.
Jass casts another False Life spell, then follows the man who would be rear guard.
Sir Joshua can glean little from the altar save the obvious. It's clear that people cut themselves here. (The lack of large stains of blood indicates that it was very likely themselves and not others that were cut.) Aside from that, however, the particular god to which the altar was dedicated - or any other details, for that matter - is not clear to the paladin. He takes up the rear guard position.
Malgant squeezes down the hall and opens the door to find ... more cramped human sized halls. He pushes through, around one corner and then another. To the west are strange blank walls that indicate some other structure rising up through the building as a whole. To the east is another door. Malgant opens it. On the other side is a yet another hallway. But this one is different. For one, it is a bit more spacious, and should present no difficulty of movement for a Large creature. For another, immediately to the right are a set of stairs (S15) that lead downwards. To the left, Malgant should see, if he pokes his head through the doorway, another doorway to the north set into the western wall.
Aztyr, leaving the cramped foyer, follows after Malgant.
Vorelle moves into the doorway, another challenge to Sir Joshua's ingenuity. How to take up a rear guard position with this formation?
Vauhwyt is geared for stealth. However, following after Malgant's forthright approach obviates the need for it. (If you'd like to save your spells, go ahead and do so.)

Jass smiles at Malgant's comment. "Why Mal, I didn't know you cared!", says the sorcerer while batting his eyelashes. The effect is somewhat hampered by Jass' undead appearance and that he's not really trying, but then, Jass isn't trying to be serious.
The thin man also is amused at the jostling in the back. "Malgant's right that we should use our voices until Atzyr can get a Telepathic Bond on you too, Sieur Josh. As for the rear guard, how about we go Atzyr, Sir Joshua, Jass, then Vorelle? Vorelle is really good at being in back, and she likes to look at my ... hips." (Jass winks at Vorelle trying to make her blush and showing her that he's teasing all at the same time.) "This also spreads us out with magic, melee, magic, melee. Brahmah offers to take point, and when Malgant accepts, the ranger moves through the narrow passageways and squeezes by his fellow heroes from Blackbird Lake, through the final door and into the hallway next to the stairs. He is now in the lead, at the top of a set of stairs leading downward and south. The stairs descend 10 feet and then come to a landing where they seem to turn back to the east. To the north the hallway ends after 20 feet with a closed door in the western wall. There are no natural hazards in sight. Likewise, there are no tracks that are not ages old. It appears that nothing has been through here - north or south - in countless years.
Malgant, after allowing Brahmah by, suggests speaking out loud for the sake of the human that they found in the dragon's chest.
Jass suggests a marching order for proceeding through these narrow halls. By way of flirting with Vorelle.
Sir Joshua agrees and puts himself in place.
Aztyr maintains her place near Malgant.
Vorelle can't help but be affected by the casual ways of the sorcerer. Still, her alertness speaks well of her training. Even with a blush to her cheeks she misses little. She finds no danger, but were there any, it would be hard pressed to hide from her.
Now together once again, now organized into a coherent and tactically sound formation, our heroes once again face the unknown. Where will Brahmah lead the group? Down the stairs? Or back around to the foyer to take the other door?

There are a few suggestions to explore the door to the north. But, Brahmah leads, and he leads down the stairs. Brahmah, and Malgant as well, keep alert as they descend the stairs. They see nothing, and they hear nothing as each step takes them downwards. The darkness of Scarwall becomes, if possible, even darker. Or is that only in the imagination of our heroes?
At the landing, the passage turns, and more stairs lead another ten feet further down. Brahmah leads the group to another corner some ten to twenty feet further along. At the corner the passageway turns north again. Also at the corner is another door.
Up the passageway to the north, the walls are blank save for a decorative molding at the juncture of wall and ceiling in a pattern resembling barbed chains. The passageway continues on to the limits of Brahmah's Darkvision, where, at the furthest reaches of sight, Brahmah believes that he sees double doors set into the western wall.

He keeps his senses focused and tries to perceive if the evil has indeed intensified or it is just the murky, scary nature of the basement. Malgant Malgant feels the walls close in as they descend the stairs. He knows this feeling. He feels it, in reverse every time he enters the Temple of the Bountiful Vine. He is certain that they have entered the temple that this so called Baron maintains in Scarwall. He feels exactly why the spirits avoid this place. The air is filled with the concentrated evil of the god this place is dedicated to, and it is palpable to the senses.

Our heroes hold up at the corner to test the air, so to speak.
Brahmah remains alert, suspicious of the decorative chain motif. He neither hears, sees, nor smells anything suspicious.
Vorelle tests the air with an objective ranger's eye. She feels nothing other than the same stale air of Scarwall. The darkening, and the increased oppressiveness must be imagination. It must be.
Aztyr knows that decorative moldings are common at the junctures between both wall and floor as well as wall and ceiling. If there is any particular significance to the molding here, however, it is lost on her.
Sir Joshua extends his innate senses, questing for the source of evil. There is no specific source. But the evil is heavier. It is thicker. It cloys.
Tension rises at the feeling of certainty, the certainty that there is something here. Great evil, for sure. But where?

OoC to Brahmah: Lets look at this logically. If you Hide, no one will be able to see you. That doesn't mean that you cannot lead, but you will have to describe where you want your team to go if you want them to follow.
If you do this, then you must do so in quoted speech. That is to say, you may not simply describe where Brahmah goes and then say he tells the others to follow. You must write out exactly what Brahmah tells the others. This will also necessarily limit how much direction you can give in combat rounds. It will also effect how much time passes outside of combat rounds. (Vauhwyt has a short duration spell on.)
You may communicate silently to the others via the Telepathic Bond. But that means Sir Joshua is out of the loop and will not know what you have said.

With the increasing tension and the overwhelming feeling of the pressing evil, Aztyr unconsciously begins to flex her fingers in and out of tight fists alternating with the position she usually has the fingers in when casting most of her spells. It's blatantly obvious that she wants to cast something, but is at a loss as to what.... She then suddenly reaches for one of her rods of lesser extend and quickly casts a spell. Brahmah seeks to lead by consensus, but finds that people are less inclined to vote when things are tense and dire danger is just around the next corner. They look to him for decisiveness and clear judgement. Isn't that what a leader is for?
Sir Joshua holds very still and attempts to localize the evil. His senses fail to determine a direction. From his experience, this happens when the walls are too thick for his special sense to penetrate.
Aztyr prepares an extended Shield spell.
As our heroes follow Brahmah up the hallway, all senses are on the alert. Malgant places special protection upon Brahmah and watches the decorative chain molding as though expecting it to jump from the wall and attack.
Vauhwyt, as they pass up the hallway, compares the similarities between the motif and the chains of Mithrodar the Chain Spirit. They are all chains. There, however, the similarity ends. The motif is little more than that - a decoration. It does not move. It has no life. It is little more than the symbol of cruelty that it is.
Brahmah arrives before the double doors without incident. The rest of the crew from Blackbird Lake are strung out down the hallway behind him.
Despite their keep senses, neither Brahmah nor Vorelle have seen nor heard a thing. All is still and dead. Silent as a tomb.

Brahmah remains outside the door with weapons at the ready. Aside from that, he does nothing but listen and look about himself. He neither hears nor sees anything. Experience tells the ranger that both distance and an obstructing door may combine to make perception ... more difficult.
Vauhwyt's Mookie, on the other hand, slips from the liontaur's invisible pocket and slides across the floor with fluid ease. The little familiar slips part of himself under the door for a look.
Meanwhile, our other heroes seem to be wearing under the strain. The press of evil appears to bring out as much impatience as it does stressful tension.

Quickly popping under the door, Mookie catches a glimpse of a vast chamber floored in gray slate and supported by thick pillars of obsidian. Unlike every other place within Scarwall, there is light here. Torches mounted on the pillars burn, yet their flames are strangely dim, barely lighting the cathedral-like space. The pillars themselves are decorated with skulls and bones -- tiny white pinpoints of light seem to dance in the eye sockets of each skull. Thick black curtains hang from the walls of the chamber.
To the northwest, a tall statue of a skull-headed man dressed in dark robes stands behind a black marble altar. Jagged, barbed chains dangle from the statue's eye sockets. In both look and feel, Mookie - yes, even Mookie - knows, that this is the god who had appeared at Vorelle's resurrection. Upon the black altar lie heaped mounds of ash, bits of bone, and a single skull. The skull's teeth and eye sockets are set with glittering gemstones. To the southeast of the black altar stands another statue in the shadowy light. This one, by its silhouette, is a minotaur. The outlines of this shadow are ragged, and the tip of one horn is very clearly missing.
To the northeast of the altar, Mookie picks out a human sized figure. It shuffles slowly, taking a few quiet steps one way, before turning and taking the same few steps back the way in which it had come. Just as he is about to pull back, Mookie thinks that he sees the head of the slowly shambling humanoid figure turn in his direction. It's slow shambling stops. Then Mookie quickly pulls back and rushes back to Vauhwyt ... who is invisible and unseen ... and ... and ... where's the safety of that pocket now? At any rate, back to Vauhwyt to relate what he's seen.

Jass smiles gauntly at Vorelle, amazed and gratified at her resilience. It didn't take a genius to see she is very shy and Jass had used that knowledge for a cheap laugh only a minute ago, but here she was asking if he were OK. "Just fighting the demons of my past, my friend", he says in his hollow voice. "I'm not going to freeze in place like a post anytime soon. No going postal for me."
The information ahead that the Baron is on the other side (and that Mookie was seen), makes Jass scoot close for Malgant's spell, if Atzyr and Vorelle squeeze in, it would enable the three humans in the back to be within 20 feet of Malgant . "I'm going to try and counter anything the Baron tries to cast when we go through the door", Jass tells the group.

Effects of Holy Aura - A brilliant divine radiance surrounds the subjects, protecting them from attacks, granting them resistance to spells cast by evil creatures, and causing evil creatures to become blinded when they strike the subjects. This abjuration has four effects. First, each warded creature gains a +4 deflection bonus to AC and a +4 resistance bonus on saves. Unlike protection from evil, this benefit applies against all attacks, not just against attacks by evil creatures. Second, each warded creature gains spell resistance 25 against evil spells and spells cast by evil creatures. Third, the abjuration protects the recipient from possession and mental influence, just as protection from evil does. Finally, if an evil creature succeeds on a melee attack against a creature warded by a holy aura, the offending attacker is blinded (Fortitude save negates, as blindness/deafness, but against holy aura's save DC).
Effects of Haste - When making a full attack action, a hasted creature may make one extra attack with one natural or manufactured weapon. The attack is made using the creature's full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation. (This effect is not cumulative with similar effects, such as that provided by a speed weapon, nor does it actually grant an extra action, so you can't use it to cast a second spell or otherwise take an extra action in the round.) A hasted creature gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. Any condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also makes you lose dodge bonuses. All of the hasted creature's modes of movement (including land movement, burrow, climb, fly, and swim) increase by 30 feet, to a maximum of twice the subject's normal speed using that form of movement. This increase counts as an enhancement bonus, and it affects the creature's jumping distance as normal for increased speed. Multiple haste effects don't stack. Haste dispels and counters slow.

After listening to Mookie's description, our heroes are now assured that one of their foes lies behind the double doors. They begin to prepare their magics.
Malgant casts Holy Aura, taking in everyone around him as they squeeze in to receive the spell.
Jass prepares to counter any spells cast by the Baron once the doors are opened.
Brahmah asks the others for their opinion on a tactical entrance. He receives no replies. The ranger, however, does now hear voices from beyond the double doors. At least two voices.
Aztyr casts a Haste spell on all.
Sir Joshua casts Holy Sword on himself and asks what position he should take.
Vorelle informs the others that she will be at the rear.
Vauhwyt casts False Life on herself. Mookie casts Lockjaw on her and then dives into Vauhwyt's pouch.
Muffled voices continue from behind the door. The double doors stand closed and waiting.

Shaking his head and taking the initiative Malgant steps past Brahmah, opens the door, and moves inside, making room for the others to follow. If there is anyone near enough to the door he will take a single attack (power attack, vital strike) at them, if not he will assess his targets and choose an incorporeal one to cast Ghostbane Dirge on.

Vorelle slithers into the room, moving through her friends and doing her best to stay out of their way. She takes up a position near Malgant. Rather than attacking, she gives her friends a few words of helpful advice.
[I think a Hasted move could get Vorelle to W-38 or W-39, depending on where Malgant ends up. She then uses her hunter's bond ability to give her friends a +3 Favored Enemy bonus to the nastiest-looking undead she can see. The bonus will last for 4 rounds.]

Three out of the four Taurs are out of his way, but Jass can see that squeezing past Atzyr and then trying to go into the door from his present position will only make him a target. And a target is something that Jass isn't very good at withstanding.
So the sorcerer only slides past Atzyr and hustles across the hallway. He looks into the doorway to get an idea for his next move, and then continues on to the other side, ending with the stone wall between him and the room with Baron. And ready to slide in in the next couple of seconds...
Atzyr's Haste allows Jass a little extra time, and so he casts Fly on himself to be more maneuverable.

Effects of Holy Aura - A brilliant divine radiance surrounds the subjects, protecting them from attacks, granting them resistance to spells cast by evil creatures, and causing evil creatures to become blinded when they strike the subjects. This abjuration has four effects. First, each warded creature gains a +4 deflection bonus to AC and a +4 resistance bonus on saves. Unlike protection from evil, this benefit applies against all attacks, not just against attacks by evil creatures. Second, each warded creature gains spell resistance 25 against evil spells and spells cast by evil creatures. Third, the abjuration protects the recipient from possession and mental influence, just as protection from evil does. Finally, if an evil creature succeeds on a melee attack against a creature warded by a holy aura, the offending attacker is blinded (Fortitude save negates, as blindness/deafness, but against holy aura's save DC).
Effects of Haste - When making a full attack action, a hasted creature may make one extra attack with one natural or manufactured weapon. The attack is made using the creature's full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation. (This effect is not cumulative with similar effects, such as that provided by a speed weapon, nor does it actually grant an extra action, so you can't use it to cast a second spell or otherwise take an extra action in the round.) A hasted creature gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. Any condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also makes you lose dodge bonuses. All of the hasted creature's modes of movement (including land movement, burrow, climb, fly, and swim) increase by 30 feet, to a maximum of twice the subject's normal speed using that form of movement. This increase counts as an enhancement bonus, and it affects the creature's jumping distance as normal for increased speed. Multiple haste effects don't stack. Haste dispels and counters slow.
