Bosk watches as the Innkeeper falls, and realizes that he is too big to fight in the hallway and will essentially be blocking his friends from being able to join in. Quickly the cleric casts Ethereal Jaunt and vanishes from sight.

OOC: question about the porch, how high is it? Are there rails? Can Alexi make a 5' step to F17? If he can, then:
IC: Alexi does not like the odds and if he's going to have to fight the axe wielding minotaur, he does not want arrows coming his way. He steps back onto the port (F17) while stuffing his Everburning Torch into his belt (Move1), then equips his shield (Move 2).
OOC: if he can't step upon the porch, then:
IC: Alexi does not like the odds and if he's going to have to fight the axe wielding minotaur, he does not want arrows coming his way. He retreats to F19 while stuffing his Everburning Torch into his belt (Move1), then equips his shield (Move 2).
Perception +5 (-5 rain) = 2 (cool :) )
Standard height with mostly ruined rails.
It should be noted that sheathing anything is a move action. You cannot take a full move (2 move actions) and a 5 foot step per the rules: You can move 5 feet in any round when you don't perform any other kind of movement. Taking this 5-foot step never provokes an attack of opportunity. You can't take more than one 5-foot step in a round, and you can't take a 5-foot step in the same round that you move any distance.
OOC: My thought was that if he can pull out a weapon while moving, he can stick a stick in his belt while moving. He's not 'sheathing' anything, just sticking it between his belt and waist. His belt is tight enough that it won't fall through. But how about this: He just puts it between his teeth. That can't be a Move Action can it? If you allow that, he moves to F19 (Move 1) and while doing so puts the stick between his teeth. Once there, he equips his shield (Move 2)

Bosk decides to take a different tact to this current situation and casts Ethereal Jaunt on himself. Now with the ability to walk through walls, the minotaur goes through one room and into the one with the innkeeper's attacker. What he finds is another minotaur clad in black chain armor, cloak and wielding a greataxe. Also in the room, on the East wall (top of map is North), is a large hole that leads into the loft of the stables--it is pitch black.
Bosk cannot squeeze when he's ethereal, so please make plans accordingly when you unethereal.
Outside luckily no one is noticing Yondrim cower worse that the weakest of halflings, but eventually he regains his senses.
Letting those nearby know there's a foe on the roof, Zane pulls out a javelin of lightning and as soon as he throws it, the wind catches it and sends the subsequent bolt flying straight up into the heavens. Those in nearby Heranmar watching the storm think it an ill omen that lightning is actually flying back up into the sky.
Restlin races upstairs and casts greater invisibility on himself, leaving Beri--who followed close behind, all by himself upstairs except for the innkeeper.
Deciding discretion is the better part of valor, Alexi runs back past the porch, all the while putting the wooden handle of his awful tasting everburning torch between his teeth and drawing out his shield.
Safely tucked behind the innkeepers desk, Zeoll begins summoning a fey friend. In the corner of his senses, he smells something odd.
Upstairs, the greataxe wielding minotaur (#3) strikes at the innkeeper and once more hits him solidly in the chest--sounding much like hitting hard wood.
The Innkeeper lashes back with dirty clawed hands and draws blood once.
The minotaur(#1) that had previously dropped to the ground pursues Alexi and strikes once at the fighter with his greataxe and hits resoundingly.
Alexi takes 20pts of damage
The other minotaur(#2) takes a shot at Zane and just as the latters javelin was caught by the wind, so too this minotaurs arrow. Tossing his bow aside, he jumps over the side and slowly comes to a stop when he touches the ground.
Zane, Alexi and Yondrim all make a DC20 (penalties already included) Perception roll to Highlight to display spoiler: { There is another minotaur sneaking around the east corner of the building.}

OOC: Randomly rolling for my Fey Friend ... rolled a 2 ... summons a dryad! That's one alignment step away from Zeoll, so the spell has a duration of 8 rounds. Because the dryad is far from her tree, she is sickened and takes a --2 penalty on all attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.
Zeoll bows low to the dryad and begs her pardon for calling her from her tree. "Please honorr my frriends and I with yourr help in battle! The undead innkeeperr seems to be an ally, and morre dangerrous enemies than he arre trrying to kill us!"
"Perrhaps you might seek out ourr foes, sleep them, and slay them?"
Zeoll intends the same himself. He thinks the hallway upstairs is too crowded and tight, so he goes out onto the porch (move action), sees Minotaur One, and casts Cacophonous Call on it. Will save vs DC21 or be nauseated for 7 rounds.
Hopefully the dryad exits with Zeoll and casts a deeper slumber or shoots an arrow at the enemy or something.

Something carried on the wind, a cry for help? Restlin decides to investigate and races past Beri, down the stairs, and out into the torrential wind and rain.
Luscious green vines erupt from the parlour floor entwining about themselves and forming an hourglass shape at it's heart, then fall away to reveal a comely dryad at it's center. Immediately she covers her mouth as she becomes sickened and pained by the fact she is not near a tree of any sort. After hearing Zeoll's wishes, she simply nods and heads outside with him. Seeing a minotaur foe far too close to his companions, Zeoll casts a spell hated by most and as he thinks he has succeeded in his attack, the minotaur raises his hand and brushes away the effects.
Zeoll's Dryad also targets the same minotaur (#1) and as he stumbles slightly under her spell, he again raises his hand and tries to brush away the effects of the deep slumber, but instead falls over asleep.
Chagrined that he had acted so cowardly, Yondrim takes out his anger on the minotaur (#4) trying to sneak around the corner. As Yondrim approaches, the large minotaur swings his greataxe as he nears and barely hits the centaur before he himself is slashed across the chest by Yondrim's falcata.
Yondrim takes 19hp damage from an AoO attack
Shouting out tactical information to those nearby, Zane makes some startling transformations to his body--growing claws and enormous fangs and flies into a flurry of attacks against the closest minotaur(#1), but only manages to hit it once with his long claw and a toothy bite as it lies helpless before him.
The tension was incredible, Bosk could feel his heartbeats thundering in his ears as the anticipation of catching his opponent unaware and slaying him so easily resounded through him like a chorus of drums beating to the rhythm of his war cry. Raising his weapon above his foes head, Bosk brought it down and felt nothing as it sliced through him. Again he attacked and again nothing. Being ethereal, yet having Ghost Touch, still wouldn't allow him to affect the material plane that his foe was on.
You cannot affect the material world while ethereal, even with Ghost touch as it's not meant to do that. You do not lose your hero point.
Beri, having won a most interesting prize in Hook City, thanks to Thornhill's Import export company, rushes outside--as he is the only one left inside with the innkeeper as far as he knows.
Always interested in carpentry, but never taking up the craft, Alexi tries to quickly ascertain the height of the porch as he may build one in the future--who knows, and determines the ceiling is about 7' to 8' tall and the railings about 36" tall--standard heights. But then the fighter turns his attention to more immediate matters and while going on the total defense, yells out a crude racial slur against the minotaur who just bloodied him. Somewhere inside, Bosk feels like he's been insulted and doesn't know why.
Meanwhile, minotaur #2 races foward and kicks awake his cohort, minotaur #1, who gets back up on the defensive
In an impressive show of arms, the minotaur (#4) fighting Yondrim buries his greataxe deep into the centaurs chest--pulling it out with a horrible sucking sound and loss of much blood.
Yondrim takes 48hp damage from a critical hit
Just when you thought there was enough minotaurs in town, another minotaur (#5) races over the apex of the roof, thunders down the incline, jumps and lands in the midst of the Iron Adventurers. He is garbed just as the rest of his fellows, but this one has a very long and large glaive in his possession--and everyone nearby is in his range of destruction.
Upstairs the other minotaur and the innkeeper continue to fight each other, unaware of Bosks presence nearby.

OOC: DM_ BTW, the reason I asked about the height of the porch is for the height of the porch floor itself from the ground, since one can fall through it. It helps knowing the height of the railing (3ft) but the porch floor adds to the total height one would have to climb from outside the porch area.
Ya never know when this info would be useful. I imagine that the porch itself would provide some cover from an attacker around the corner (porch pole and railings in the way...)
Also, a Med character might receive some cover from the porch (porch ceiling and railing being in the way) from a Large attacker who is taller than 7' or 8', since the porch ceiling would be somewhat hampering line of sight. May not come into play, but would Cover be applicable here?
Just wondering.
if you're purposefully trying to take cover behind or near something, then I would allow it, but you have to be purposeful about it and let me know you're doing just that.

With a new attacker so close, Restlin calls forth two balls of lightning to kill him. Even with all the rain and the fact he is wearing metal armor (-6 to save total), the spry minotaur manages to dodge one of the balls, but steps into the other, bringing a grimace of pain to his face, You's gunna pay for dat, damn wizard, whereever you are." Then Restlin scurries away to help Yondrim.
Yondrim, bleeding copious amounts of blood, strikes back at his foe, but all his attacks seem to be slugglish and easily outmanuevered.
Ever the battle leader, Zane once again activates his strange arcane powers while shouting out that Yondrim needs help, and fast. Attacking once more, Zane only manages to once more lay a single claw on him--even when the minotaur foe arose from having been magically slept, he missed (On second thought, because another player stated it, I rolled an AoO for you, but it missed too!)
An expert swordsman, Alexi easily bypasses his minotaurs defenses as he moves within striking range and slides his magical sword into it's ribs. Now it looks really mad.
Inside the inn, Bosk determines, and rightfully so, that he can't affect anyone while ethereal. So he moves to what he hopes is the stable loft and luckily enough, he is right. Dropping out of his ethereal jaunt, he is in abject darkness except for the meager light drifting through the large hole in the wall, of which that light is only coming through a small hole in the roof.
Bosk, please make a perception roll.
With much courage, Beri steps forth and uses the anti-minotaur spray he had won and as it covers the glaive wielding minotaur, it does nothing.
Zeoll once more casts his cac call and once more the minotaur raises his hand and brushes away the effects.
Zeoll, the mino5 has made an AoO on you for not casting defensively. You take 8pts of damage and must make a concentration roll to cast the cac call.
The dryad turns and see's Yondrim nearly on the edge of dying, and says, "Your friend, he is about to die." Her voice is demur, and causes all those men nearby to take a second look. Using her supernatural ability of Deep Slumber on mino4, it doesn't seem to affect him.
Swinging hard, Mino2 strikes out at Zane, literally. Both attacks fail to hit their target.
Having been put alseep and ensorcelled twice now, the lead mino(#1) attempts to cleave Alexi and Zane, but misses.
Attempting to finish off Yondrim, mino#4 strikes the centaur hard, twice, felling him where he stood.
Yondrim takes 36pts of damage. you might want to cheat death here.
Not pleased about getting smelly perfume sprayed on him, mino5 strikes back at Beri, hitting once.

He asks the dryad to use her magic to entangle Minos 1 and 2 without entangling his friends, if possible. After that, he begs her to move to flank Mino 5 with Beri by moving to 19G.
Zeoll takes another five ft step to the east and calls out to Mino 4 in Tauric, "Come on over here, if you can remember the face of your father!"
He uses the ready action to prepare to cast a spell on the defensive. He is ready to cast Suggestion on Mino 4 as soon as Mino 4 is within the 40 ft range of the spell. To cast the spell on the defensive, his concentration check to do so is a 17 ... exactly what he needs. If the readied action takes effect, Zeoll will suggest to Mino 4, "Excuse me, sir minotaur, but I suggest you should take a five mile walk east right now and return here in exactly one hour."
He says this in Taurric, the common language known to all taurs (You can tell because he does not have his usual accent when speaking his native tongues). The will DC to resist the Suggestion is 21.

Flanking When making a melee attack, you get a +2 flanking bonus if your opponent is threatened by another enemy character or creature on its opposite border or opposite corner.

Getting sliced by the minotaur with the glaive (#5), Zeoll cries out in alarm, but his inquisitive nature still wonders how the other minotaur had eluded his magical spells.
Continuing to direct the battle, Zane once more unleashes some arcane savagery on the same minotaur in front of him and manages to bleed him twice.
Unsure if it's rain or sweat running down his face, Alexi strikes true with his first attack, driving his blade deep into the minotaur vexing Zeoll's efforts to ensorcel him--felling him where he stands. Sidestepping the fallen minotaur, Alexi moves to engage the remaining nearby minotaur.
Having remained where he is, the minotaur glaive continues to get shocked and is becoming very annoyed.
Hearing perhaps the death cry of a fellow Iron Adventurer, Bosk is upset that he can't help immediately. Instead he strikes out at the minotaur attacking the innkeeper with his armor spikes and his horns, but fails with the latter.
His life cut short, Yondrim gives up the ghost and shuffles off his mortal coil.
Perhaps its courage, maybe a little foolhardy, but Beri steps forward and cuts into the glaive wielding minotaur like he was sliced cheese--though not critically or sneakily.
"It is not possible," came the Dryad's reply, then she cast her entanglement.
Alexi and Zane please make a DC15 Reflex save or become Entangled: The character is ensnared. Being entangled impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a --2 penalty on all attack rolls and a --4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell.
The area around the foe minotaur, Zane, Alexi and the area beyond the stone wall immediately became overgrown with all manner of weeds, vines and vegetation. Then nonchalantly, the Dryad moved to where Zeoll asked and met the blade of a glaive for her troubles.
Dryad takes 14hp damage from an AoO
Calling out an insult to the minotaur that just killed Yondrim, Zeoll readies a spell, and yes he will need it. The minotaur grunts and comes loping down the porch--it's weight almost too much for the fragile planks, and Zeoll casts his spell. A curious look comes across the face of the minotaur as he's asked to take a walk, then he brings up his hand and brushes away the effect. "Not right now laddy-buck, gots too much killing to do."
Lying on the ground breathing heavy, mino1 continues to bleed to death.
Mino2, angry at the downing of his friend, strikes hard back at Alexi, hitting once with his great axe.
Alexi takes 23hp damage
Not enjoying the tasing to his backside from two balls of lightning, mino5 takes a 5ft step to his right and attacks Beri unmercilessly with everything he has and somehow misses every single time.
Mino4, now in range of Zeoll, takes a heavy swing with his greataxe at the liontaur and misses!
Upstairs, the Revenant and Mino3 are swinging, clawing and hacking back and forth and it looks like the Revenant is winning.
Just as Bosk is thinking he going to see the end of that battle, he feels a peculiar sensation in his back. Something cold like ice, numbing, then he feels the blade slide out and thats when the pain registers. He turns to see who just attacked him, but even with his darkvision it's difficult.
Bosk takes 7hp normal damage, 3hp frost, 18hp sneak damage and 3hp bleeding if the sneak damage is successful (I remember you have a magic item that may apply this once.)

An invisible attacker gets no advantages related to hitting you in melee. That is, you don't lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, and the attacker doesn't get the usual +2 bonus for being invisible. The invisible attacker's bonuses do still apply for ranged attacks, however. You do not need to make Acrobatics skill checks to move at full speed while blinded

"You are going to have to deal with those two for a bit longer, if I leave here to help, I feel it would just cause a bigger problem!" Zane yells out over his shoulder. "Attack me you waste of walking hamburger" He tries to intimidate #2. Zane, not being effected by the entangling vines again charges up his body with arcane energy and he also activates his draconic heritage for the last time today....

OOC: The Dryad is our ally. She's doing her best, but everybody makes mistakes. Don't hate on the fey, my friends!
OOC to ALL: If you miss a roll by just a little, PLEASE give an OOC shout so maybe Zeoll can do something about it!
OOC to Kindly DM Jim -- when you dealt 14 hp damage to Lady Dryad, did you take into account her DR5/cold iron?
Yes :)
Zeoll has a bad feeling about this. Mr. Mino 4 just killed Yondrim in like two swipes. Zeoll does not stand much of a chance. Not to mention how demoralizing it is when the enemy is immune to every spell you cast. Worried about dying, the grey-haired liontaur starts to shake. He's been dead before, and he has no desire to try it again.
But then he realizes that the dryad DID sleep one of the minos before! Maybe the enemy can only ignore one spell per round. If he and his dryad ally team up, maybe, just maybe, they can get the job done!
Zeoll calls to his friend in Sylvan: "Dearr Dryad, please please do trry to sleep the minotaurr rright herre in frront of me!"
If Minotaur 4 does go to sleep, Zeoll will cast Grease defensively under the feet of Minotaur 5. Reflex DC18.
If Mino 4 brushes away the Sleep as Zeoll has seen these minos do, Zeoll will defensively cast Cacophonous Call on Mino 4 with the idea that it can't brush away two spells a round. Will DC21.
If Mino 4 resists the Sleep AND does NOT brush it away, then Zeoll's plan is in trouble! In this case, he will cast Grease under Mino 4's feet.
Here's Zeoll's Defensive Casting Roll for whatever spell he ends up trying: 28 = no problem.
Then a five ft step back to L17.

Bosk feels the metal blade slide out of his kidney and realizes that the very shadows are working against him. He had not seen anything when he entered the room ethereal and he could see nothing now, even with the gods enhancing his vision. Next he feels the chill of ice, magic on the blade. To make matters worse, he is sure that he would have experienced more damage from the precision of the attack if not for the assassin's foil he carried. His blood begins to boil as his grip tightens on his sword, but he remembers the lessons Jancassis taught him and forces himself to delay his revenge. It can wait a little longer. There is no shame in waiting for the others, and in this rain I have no way of knowing if the others heard. Clearly this man thought ahead. He made a noise upstairs and lured us to a hall way where we had to be single file and could not group up. Then he picked a location where he could attack through a hole, unseen, while the minotaur took the brunt of the damage. God, how did I miss that hole in the wall when I was standing right next to it....Then he had others come around outside to flank the group or split us up. We need to be cautious with this one and work as a team. Surround him. Maybe we can see him better in the rain or if he is walking in the mud.
The entire thought process took only a fraction of a second as the details flash before the minotaur's eye's and he settles on a course of action. Gripping his shield he runs full speed to the south and into the wall, praying it is as brittle as the porch. Should he break through, he knows the copper bracelet on his arm will activate the feather fall spell and guide him safely to the ground below.

Keeping his balls of lightning on the tail of the minotaur, Restlin mentally guides them to the attack (move action). Then aims Vera precariously too close to Zeoll and unleashes a fireball. Erupting in the underside of the porch roof, it spreads out wider than expected and engulfs both the minotaur, Zeoll and Yondrim's now incinerated body.
Zeoll please make a Reflex DC17 to take half damage, or take 20pts full damage
Restlin cannot take a 5' step since it was a move action to direct his balls.
Please note, Greater Invisibility is only 1rd/level--so 7rds total for Restlin.
Luckily for the Inn, the monsoon-like weather prevents the aged rotting timbers from catching fire.
Continuing to lead better than fight, Zane attacks once more and fails on all accounts.
Intimidate during combat is a standard action
The little hamster running in his brain wheel is running at double time as Zeoll tries to come up with a plan to get himself out of this mess. Directing the Dryad for some help, she goes to use her Deep Slumber spell-like ability for the last time today and she is promptly chopped almost in half for it and fails to keep her concentration in order to use her power.
Faced with a very angry minotaur, Zeoll makes him even angrier as he casts Grease under his footing and he promptly falls on his rump.
Finding himself completely ensnared, Alexi smartly goes on the complete defensive.
Unable to find his attacker in the darkness, Bosk makes a break for it and is sliced very narrowly as he heads for the wall. Shield up, the minotaur crashes his way through the wall, injuring himself very slightly, and ends up falling a scant few inches before his magical bracelet slows his fall to that of a feather. What the fleeing minotaur didn't count on were the 50mph winds carrying him to the east like a leaf on the wind--carrying him over the inn walls and still in the air about 15' up as he thinks about Shadowdancers.
Bosk takes 3pts of damage from an AoO and crashing through the wall...lucky.
Seeing that the Dryad was not instructed, nor carried out of her own volition to flank the glaive wielding minotaur, Beri pulls off an astonishing sequences of tumbles that moves him away so he can break the seal on his belt, granting everyone good fortune in the near future--and they'll need it.
Next round : During the next round, all party members may use the highest d20 roll of any party member. (useable on 1 roll only, not all your rolls)
Seeing that there is nowhere to go that would elude the vines traveling up his kilt, Mino2 hacks away at Alexi; still pissed that he downed his friend, he strikes him critically in the chest, and he still manages to avoid becoming entangled.
Alexi take 43pts of damage. Let me know if you're Cheating Death.
Standing up without a problem, Mino4 semi slides forward 5ft and swings for the fences against Zeoll, slashing him open along his flank.
Zeoll takes 20pts of damage
Deciding to put her out of her misery, Mino5 swings at theDryad twice and connects on the backswing, sending her back to her realm in a flurry of leaves and flowers that blanket the area and are immediately swept away on the wind.

Zeoll (HP11 of 49, AC22, CMD17) d20+12=23 ; 2d4=6 ; Friday June 8th, 2012 6:18:38 AM
Zeoll figures this debacle is a bad scene, and he wants out before the end of the movie. If Mino 4 chases him he's dead anyway, so fleeing is probably just a way to die ignobly, but Zeoll would rather take a chance to live than stand his ground with no way to hurt this enemy. Maybe since he is still half in the Grease Mino 4 won't be able to follow as easily.
The archivist bard's jack of all trades ability lets him tumble as if he were trained. His Natural Divination gives him a +10 on a skill check. Heroism gives a +2. And the luck of the group guarantees him a decent roll. Plus, his Gallant Inspiration gives him an extra +2d4 if he comes close.
Zeoll tumbles out of reach of these dangerous minotaurs -- or tries to. His tumble check is a 23, based on a roll of 11, but that may go higher. If needed, his Gallant Inspiration spell adds another 6, so he is up to 29 at least ... hopefully higher. If that's not enough to avoid an AoO, Zeoll is probably dead.
Zeoll (hopefully) tumbles to 22-21-O, a distance of about 30 ft, but tumbling, that's the equivalent of 60 ft of move. Zeoll has 20 more feet of move left, and high-tails it off the map to 26-25-O. That's his double move for this round.

Zeoll chooses discretion as the better part of survival.
The archivist bard's jack of all trades ability lets him tumble as if he were trained. His Natural Divination gives him a +10 on a skill check. Heroism gives a +2. And the luck of the group guarantees him a decent roll. He uses a hero point pre-emptively for a +8. Plus, his Gallant Inspiration gives him an extra +2d4 if he comes close.

Tumble check = 1d20+10 nat div +2 heroism spell +8 hero point
Note that Zane has rolled a natural 17. If Zeoll fails to beat that, he'll use the 17. He rolls a natural 5, so 17 it is!
That means Zeoll's tumble check is 37, and if that is not good enough, Gallant Inspiration adds another 3 to make it 40. Not too shabby for a liontaur who never tumbled a day in his long life!
Zeoll (hopefully) tumbles to 22-21-O, a distance of about 30 ft, but tumbling, that's the equivalent of 60 ft of move. Zeoll has 20 more feet of move left, and high-tails it off the map to 26-25-O. That's his double move for this round.
Then he uses a second hero point to move another 40 feet, event further on, to 34-33-O.

Seeing that the wind is taking him away from the battle, Bosk quickly removes the bracelet and drops to the ground with grace quite remarkable for a taur his size (acrobatics = 28). In one swift motion he pulls himself up and over the wall surrounding the Inn and drops to the ground on the other side (Climb check = 27).
Quickly accessing the situation, he notices Zeoll retreating to safety and leaving Beri to fend for himself and realizes that the Iron Adventurer's ranks have shrunk considerably. My spell is a standard action to cast, but it is replicating a wizard spell that takes the wizard a full round to cast. Notes on Shadow Conjuration Highlight to display spoiler: {You use material from the Plane of Shadow to shape quasi-real illusions of one or more creatures, objects, or forces. Shadow conjuration can mimic any sorcerer or wizard conjuration (summoning) or conjuration (creation) spell of 3rd level or lower. Shadow conjurations are only one-fifth (20%) as strong as the real things, though creatures who believe the shadow conjurations to be real are affected by them at full strength. Any creature that interacts with the spell can make a Will save to recognize its true nature.
Spells that deal damage have normal effects unless the affected creature succeeds on a Will save. Each disbelieving creature takes only one-fifth (20%) damage from the attack. If the disbelieved attack has a special effect other than damage, that effect is only 20% likely to occur. Regardless of the result of the save to disbelieve, an affected creature is also allowed any save that the spell being simulated allows, but the save DC is set according to shadow conjuration's level (4th) rather than the spell's normal level. In addition, any effect created by shadow conjuration allows Spell Resistance, even if the spell it is simulating does not. Shadow objects or substances have normal effects except against those who disbelieve them. Against disbelievers, they are 20% likely to work.
A shadow creature has one-fifth the hit points of a normal creature of its kind (regardless of whether it's recognized as shadowy). It deals normal damage and has all normal abilities and weaknesses. Against a creature that recognizes it as a shadow creature, however, the shadow creature's damage is one-fifth (20%) normal, and all special abilities that do not deal lethal damage are only 20% likely to work. (Roll for each use and each affected character separately.) Furthermore, the shadow creature's AC bonuses are just one-fifth as large. A creature that succeeds on its save sees the shadow conjurations as transparent images superimposed on vague, shadowy forms. Objects automatically succeed on their Will saves against this spell.}

Switching to his old training, and calling out to the others whether they were choosing to bail in the face of adversity, Zane strikes the formerly untouched Mino2 in front of him both times, once critically due to Beri's Goblin seal!
Not really wanting to become liontaur steaks, Zeoll proceeds to perform a series of tumbling moves that one wouldn't even expect to see in a traveling circus--so perfectly done out of necessity, Zeoll digs deep, real deep, and runs away! When he reaches his spot, he looks back to see a stranger, perhaps a human, standing by the gates of the wall, bow in hand.
Taking careful aim with Vera, Restlin lets loose another Fireball which Mino5 dodges easily, but it's the two balls of lightning that do him in and kill him outright. Hightailing it out of there, he comes face to face with a man outfitted in explorers gear, mithril breastplate and holding a composite bow.
Chucking the bracelet so he's not carried gods know where by the wind, Bosk falls to the ground and expertly lands and takes off for the nearby wall. Clearing it easily, the minotaur rejoins the fight by conjuring forth a shadow croc to take a bite out of Mino5, but it misses badly. Mino5 seems to think it is real.
Surprised at the sudden appearance of the croc, Beri tries to take advantage and hits with his first attack, and connects with his second due to his seal.
Striking back at Zane, Mino2 misses completely on both swings.
A resounding THUD is heard coming from the inside of the inn followed quickly by a baleful shriek--lucky the Iron Adventurers are outside of that area of effect this time.
Turning his attention to Beri, Mino4 swings twice and barely hits the rogue twice, but the hits are telling as blood is sprayed over both combatants, then the minotaur gores him.
Beri takes 62pts of damage

In that case I'm blind and apologize for saying it was cruel
Actually, after careful review, it looks like I put the croc 5' south of where it should be. I was positive I placed it where Bosk stated, but I guess I was wrong. So, in this case, that does mean you get the flank advantage and do him another 21pts of damage. That doesn't drop him though, so Beri still gets hit 3 times for 62 damage.

Disengaging from battle, Zane rolls backwards and receives a slice across the haunches from his foe as he does so, then barely casts Enlarge Person on himself.
Zane takes 16pts from an AoO. I rolled his concentration check and he passed.
Noticing the person by the wall is wearing the sigil of Queen Maab, Zeoll decides not to target him and instead heal himself a bit with his magical wand as he moves.
Not sure who the newcomer is, Restlin moves back into the inn's courtyard and mentally moves his balls of lightning closer to Mino4.
Restlin, you are now visible at the end of this round, round 10, unless your Greater Invisibilty lasts longer than 7 rounds. You began your GI on round 4.
Dressed in a cloak of blue trimmed in silver with the hood drawn up against the rain while also sporting a pale blue surcoat over his armor, the newcomer takes a step out beyond the retaining wall he was hiding behind and takes three bowshots at Mino4--knowing that he's evil and more than likely up to no good. All three shots curve in the wind but hit due to the attackers forethought and accounting for windage, causing the minotaur to cry out in pain from the unexpected attack.
Enraged that Beri is taking a dirt nap, Bosk motions for his shadowdile to flank Mino4--but as he does the croc receives a severe chop and Mino4 no longer believes it to be real. Thankfully it's partially real, enough for Bosk to use it to bolster his charge. However, the croc happens to run into a ball of lightning and is discharged from this plane as the damage is too much for it to cope with, so there will be no help with his attack. Bracing himself for impact, Mino4 grits his teeth and bellows in pain as Bosk blade impales him, lifting him off his hooves and then droping him to the ground unconscious and bleeding.
Beri tries to gargul something out, but passes into unconsciousness from the pain and bloodloss.
Something drops down from the porch and then disappears in plain sight as it moves onto the porch behind Bosk--whatever it was can't be made out as only the wind and rain gave somewhat of an outline of something fallng.
Thinking about escape, Mino2 is about to hightail it out of there until he see's his master--although somewhat briefly, come down from over the porch. That combined with seeing his comrade skewered by a fellow minotaur makes him decide that he must help his master, after all he had given him. Charging through, Mino2 runs through the balls of lightning, scorching his flesh, Zane tries to stop him but he fails as Mino2 manages to land a solid blow against Bosk.

Haste: The transmuted creatures move and act more quickly than normal. This extra speed has several effects.
When making a full attack action, a hasted creature may make one extra attack with one natural or manufactured weapon. The attack is made using the creature's full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation. (This effect is not cumulative with similar effects, such as that provided by a speed weapon, nor does it actually grant an extra action, so you can't use it to cast a second spell or otherwise take an extra action in the round.)
A hasted creature gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. Any condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also makes you lose dodge bonuses.
All of the hasted creature's modes of movement (including land movement, burrow, climb, fly, and swim) increase by 30 feet, to a maximum of twice the subject's normal speed using that form of movement. This increase counts as an enhancement bonus, and it affects the creature's jumping distance as normal for increased speed. Multiple haste effects don't stack. Haste dispels and counters slow.

Heranmar Inn -- Jim C d20=18 ; Tuesday June 12th, 2012 4:34:35 PM I'm going to go ahead and end the combat here and let you guys do what you want, but please remember, there is an assassin afoot. Why he hasn't attacked is probably because he doesn't have to. He can just wait until you go back to your tower and kill you off one by one in your sleep :) Please note where you are going and with whom in case I do choose to have him attack any stragglers.
The wind continues to pick up as the storm hits the mainland. It is really blowing hard now (-8 perception) and bits and pieces of nearby Heranmar are sailing through the air and fly by the inn at an alarming speed. Yondrims corpse is half incinerated and either blown away and now consists of a gray muck. Alexi is definitely dead and still entangled. Of the four minotaurs outside, two are still barely alive, but fading fast.
Soon this whole area may be flooded as the waves on the nearby shore have crested over the embankment and heading inland. It could be any moment that standing on soggy ground could turn into fighting for your lives in 10'+ high flood waters (think the tsunami vids of Japan). Heranmar itself is a mile away, it's uncertain if you could make it there, and very uncertain if they would open their gates to outsiders during a storm of this magnitude.
The innkeeper continues to fume and look about. He's little more than scraps of tattered meat on bones, but his insatiable desire of revenge keeps him "alive". Being so near him, Bosks subconscious must feel torn--the Avenger in him must admire him for his drive for revenge, whilst the Grim in him must see the need to put the revenant to rest.
Wyaar, the newcomer, can feel the evil too--but the innkeeper has not made one move to attack any of the group. He just keeps muttering Lowds name and looking intently all about the grounds.

Wyaar, like Bosk, seems completely unaffected by the undead scream, but eyes the creature suspiciously with a raised bow. When it makes no move to attack and no one attacks it immediately he lowers his bow and nods in its direction, "what is that?"
He eyes the dying minotaurs and makes no move to either harm or heal them. With the coming storm it is up to the Gods whether or not they survive and he'll leave them to their judgement. "we need to find shelter... This storm is growing and this is not a good place to be."

Thanks for helping with those minotaurs back there. This is where I'd usually insert a joke about taurs in general, but the situation appears dire and my water-logged corpse would not be nearly pretty enough to display properly. We're the Iron Adventurers, and there's a very skilled assassin around here somewhere who may have added you to his target list since you shot his henchmen. Sorry about that."
He turns to the rest of the group & is glad to see Beri's still alive. "I hate to leave Alexi and Yondrim like this, but if we don't get moving we'll end up joining them. If we want to find this Lowd character, we'll likely need the innkeeper."

After ensuring that no more of the Iron adventurer's will be taking the trip to see Gargul tonight, Bosk gather's the group together. That thing, best as I can tell, is a reverant. I being so wronged in life that its soul refused to cross over, returning to its body it rises from the grave to get its revenge. Typically such beings are devoid of any compassion, emotion, or logic, a revenant has but one purpose, and cannot rest until it has found vengeance, but this one is an enigma... As the horned cleric speaks it becomes obvious that he admires the reverant's enduring patients and unalterable determination. My name is Bosk, and as the symbol on my forehead indicates, I am a Eye of Gargul, a cleric for the god of life and death. More specifically, I have dedicated my life to helping trapped spirits who cannot go on to their afterlife in the Lands of Rest, in particular those spirits bound to this plane due to some deep aching need for revenge or need insatiable need to right some injustice or to clear their name.
Looking around the grounds the cleric finds himself agreeing with the Paladin. I don't think it would be wise to try to make it to the city tonight. I suggest we stay the night at the inn and fortify it the best we can in case the assassin is still around. We should also search the taurs, perhaps they have something on them that will tell us where they are from or where we can find the Lowd. We should also remove their weapons and armor in case they make it through the night and decide to come after us again.
Regretfully, while Gargul has granted me the power to revive our fallen friends, it is their to continue their journey to the Shadow Realm and I must honor that decision. Bosk will make sure everyone stays in groups of three while they search the bodies and move about. While the others check the dead Bosk will say a prayer for their souls, particularly that of Yondrim and Alexi. He will also, assuming there are no objections, burn / incinerate Aleix and Yondrim's corpses in an ancient ritual designed to honor the dead, immortalize their memory, and prevent the desecration of their corpses.

OOC: Updated xp, hero points, and CLW charges used on my sheet -- thanks Jim!
Number one first priority! Despite the storm, we have to stay together in case the assassin returns. Zeoll will act to either keep his friends together, or make sure by joining a loner that no one is left alone. Ideally, we should stay in a group.
Second priority, if it is even possible -- Zeoll wants to sniff around for this Lowd fellow! He wants to get his scent! Outside, maybe not, but inside, the sensitive liontaur bets there's a scent to be sniffed! With at least one friend to join him, and not a minotaur for fear the floor will collapse, Zeoll checks out the interior of the place. Survival 35! Nat 20! That's gotta give a clue?!
But what of the undead thing? Zeoll calls out to him, shouting with a trained bard's voice over the storm: "Sirr Innkeeperr! We want to catch this Lowd perrson too! Please come talk with us!"
While inside, Zeoll looks at the holes and creaking woodwork (Know Engineering 17 - forgot to add the +2 for heroism in the roller). "I don't like this, my frriends! I think this strructurre is going to collapse on us. We might be betterr off outside, or in shelterr of ourr own device!"
Zeoll's survival check to see if there is a better place to shelter -- in the lee of a corner of the outer wall, maybe? Survival check 25.
"We would be best off in XXXXXXX," suggests the fey bard. [OOC: Fill in the XXXX with whatever kindly DM Jim says that Zeoll concludes.]
If Restlin wishes to cremate the remains of the group's fallen friends, Zeoll will bow his head and pray for their rest. He sings a funeral song, something to celebrate their bravery. Perform 31.
That chore done, he asks if anyone has looked over the bodies of the fallen foes. Are any alive? If so, Zeoll will disarm and tie them up and use a charge of CLW to make sure they survive. If not, he will search the corpses to see if he can find loot (with a detect magic cantrip and a sift cantrip so he does not have to touch them) Perception, taking 20, is a 37, less storm penalties, a 32 if it is still -5, and if he can;t take 20, then a roll of 33, or 28 with the -5.

If the revenant could prove helpful in bringing down a bigger evil than it could be suffered for now, but only for a short time. All goes as planned. The ceremony amongst the crash of thunder and lightning; waves of water coming inland; the angry sky breached above, all give a terrible sense of the grandeur of the Wold as the bodies of Alexi and Yondrim are incinerated in a sudden explosion of fire. Instantly steam arises from the vacuum left by the fireball and with it the ashes of the fallen are swept up by the fierce winds and carried away to wander the Wold free of worries, cares or desires. Freedom.
Soon, based on careful observations, the water level will be quite high, so high in fact the first level of the inn will be flooded. The innkeeper, after chasing about the inn calling out Lowd's name here and there, has settled once more behind his desk in the parlour--as if open for business. The water won't affect him, but the rest of the Iron Adventurers, where will they ride out the storm and not get seperated?

If anyone knows how to use rope well, he'll also take their assistance. He mainly hauls it around for his rope-trick spell and is lucky to get a decent square knot. He'll also make sure the dagger on his belt is secured in case he needs to cut himself free quickly.
Plenty of rope if anyone else feels the need to secure themselves against hurricane winds.
He smiles at Wyaar, "honestly friend, this is an exceedingly appropriate introduction to the Iron Adventurers. If we get out of this, ask the liontaur there to tell you about our lost fortune."

Pointing and alerting the others to the outline of a person running through the rain, Zeoll opens the window to be greeted by a blast of rain, but he does not falter as he casts his Hold Person spell on the supposed fleeing Lowd--who neither falters and continues to run. Zeoll then runs downstairs and out into the rain.
Seeing where Zeoll pointed, Restlin takes a chance and casts a Glitterdust in that area. It explodes in a shower of glittery dust that is immediately drawn down to the ground by the rain, but in it's midst is a lone figure clearly covered in the glittery mess.

***
OOC: Burning a hero point to recall haste.
Does the penalty to ranged attacks include things like rays that aren't affected by weather?
Seeing that he is being surrounded by magically speed enhanced foes, Lowd mutters something about being undone by a damn Glitterdust spell. Taking a moment to think about, Lowd moves toward Wyaar and draws forth a black curved shortsword. Wyaar can barely see his face in the pelting rain and strong winds, but it's obvious the man is human and wears a grim smile on his face as he comes at Wyaar. Strangely, perhaps because the aura of evil is so strong, Wyaar senses something moving behind him. Bosk and the rest can see it too-- a living shadow, formed from the darkness and hiding in it's recesses, moves behind Wyaar and flanks him.
With a skilled hand, Lowd bypasses Wyaar's defenses and slams his curved blade to the hilt into Wyaar. From behind, a claw as cold as ice rips into the paladins back, but it spills no blood.
Wyaar takes 34pts of normal, sneak and ice damage and loses 6pts of Strength due to the Shadows drain attack.

Obviously having some incredible plan hatching in his brain, Zeoll runs like the dickens and far surpasses everyone else as he heads North.
Calling out and casting a Hold Person on Lowd, Restlin pretty much knows that the spell failed as the man in black is not held frozen in place.
Activating the protective magics in his newly acquired magic cloack clasp, Beri moves a short distance and pulls out his bow.
Taking a step to the side and dropping his bow due to his weakened state, Wyaar calls forth the power of his god to smite the evil attacking him. Lashing out with his bare hands, he feels nothing as they pass through the Shadows body, but the incorporeal entity does seem affected by the holy energy emanating from Wyaar's hands as it winces in pain.
Since it is incorporeal and you do not have Ghost Touch and I couldn't find anywhere that Smite Evil affects incorporeal creatures, you're only doing half damage on the magical energy of your Smite. So 3pts + 3pts = 6pts total damage for the two hits.
Also casting a Shield spell on himself, Zane moves forward to cut off Lowd if he runs.
Bosk comes in to save the day, or at least Wyaar's life, as he moves behind the Shadow and cuts right through it, dissipating it entirely and sending it back to the dark abyss it was spawned from.
Seeing himself surrounded, Lowd runs 120' straight in the direction of the arrow (see map).
Please remember if you're wearing heavy armor, you can only run 3x your base speed.

Both Wyaar and Zeoll run past the melee and set up beyond them.
Beri's arrow shot is lost in the wind as is Restlin's glob of acid and they both trails far behind the rest of the group, along with the innkeeper who keeps muttering Lowd's name over and over again.

Feeling the searing pain of cold metal cut into his flesh again and worried by Restlin's call for help causes a surge of adrenaline surge through the taurs body as he calls upon some deep inner strength to help him tear this guy apart in a blur of flesh and blood. Zeoll (HP27 of 49, AC22, CMD17) d20=8 ; Friday June 22nd, 2012 9:59:55 AM
Zeoll makes a knowledge check to see if he can determine a weak spot -- his raw d20 roll is an 8, and assuming Lowd is a humanoid, Zeoll's Know Local check is an 18, +2 for heroism, so 20.
Presuming a Know DC 20 is ok, Zeoll's bardic Naturalist ability gives everyone a +2 on attacks, AC, and saves vs Lowd's Ex, Su, and Sp abilities.
With his move action remaining, Zeoll

Not quite in a panic just yet, Restlin hoofs it over to Zeoll, raises Lowd's sword above his head and drives it into the softened earth. Then he lets go of the accursed thing.
"Zeoll," he starts just low enough for the liontaur to hear over the weather & his performing, "we can't let him leave with this sword. It's too evil to be let loose in the Wold again." The wizard's usually unimpeachable irreverence, along with something less tangible, seems to have been sucked out of him.

Healing himself, Wyaar asseses the combat.
Urging himself on, Bosk drives his sword hard into Lowd's side, but only once--Zeoll's bard magic cannot reach him, nor can Bosk or the other seem to flank Lowd as he uncannily dodges all their attacks.
IUD -- no flank bonus, no sneak damage
Studying Lowd's weaknesses, Zeoll's bard magic helps both Wyaar and Beri, but not Zane or Bosk since they are outside his area of influence.
Zeoll is to the NW of Lowd and 30' away. Zane and Bosk are SE of Lowd, hence farther than 30' away. Also, you must choose either Timely Inspiration or Gallant Inspiration since each have the same requisite reaction of a failed attack, not by how much the attack fails by.
Trying as best he can, Wyaar fails to hit Lowd.
Running past the fray and up to Zeoll, Restlin drops Lowds sword point first into the ground (not enough actions left to drive it into the ground) and it sticks there quite easily.
Beri also tries to stab Lowd in the back, but no luck.
Seeing his sword nearby, Lowd crouches down and vanishes. He reappears right next to his sword, Restlin and Zeoll. "Hello boys, great weather we're having , huh?"
1 round by Monday night or sooner. Zane and Bosk cannot charge unless Wyaar and Beri get out of the way.

OOC: So Zeoll did not use either inspirations last round, then, because of range?
Zeoll continue his performance as a free action -- +2 on AC, attacks, and saves, my friends!
Zeoll casts Grease on the Defensive. His concentration check is at +14 (+7 chr +7 CL). a 23 should be fine.
He casts the Grease on the area under Lowd. Even if he makes his save, he can only move half speed, and then only with a DC10 Acrobatics check. The save DC on the spell is Reflex DC18.
Then Zeoll uses a move action to pick up the sword. That provokes an AoO, of course ... Zeoll is AC24 vs Lowd. Presumably he has to make a will save: Zeoll rolls an 18! Sensing his failed roll, he immediately casts Gallant Inspiration, boosting his failed roll by 4 to 22!
He stands there, barely in control, hoping to survive as Lowd attacks.

He had sworn to avenger the fallen kon, and nothing was was going to stand in his way. Never before had the eye of Gargul called upon so much of his power and reserve, but nothing was going to stand behind him and his revenge. Hackles raised he charges deftly through the mud as the pouring rain drenches his fur.and makes him look ever more like a rabid beast. Zeoll, Part Deux!
The moment he touches the sword, even before the item tries to control him, Zeoll gains two negative levels, with the corresponding penalty to saves. THEN he makes his will save against control! In that instance, he recalls his study earlier today of the way the wind swept through high branches, of the flight of birds, of the patterns of clouds in the sky! It was this to which his prophetic vision referred, and this moment for which his precognitive art had prepared him. With this Natural Divination to guide him, his saving throw becomes a 26, and he resists the mental attack without any need for inspiration, gallant or otherwise.
But his prophetic vision did not show him the Glitterdust spell that exploded next to him in a cloud of magical sparkles! Zeoll's save against that DC16 Will save is a roll of natural 1! Zeoll laughs like a demon and makes a heroic effort to resist ... [using a hero point to reroll] ... and his second try, a natural TWO, is enough to beat the spell. Zeoll wipes the magic dust from his eyes and looks around.
All this, of course, assumes that Zeoll survives the AoO provoked when he picked up the sword. Unless Lowd's mode of magical translocation prohibits him from taking any actions -- including AoOs -- until the start of his next turn?

Continuing to inspire his companions, Zeoll casts Grease on the area in front of him to affect Lowd, but the man does not fall. Deciding it best that he pick up Lowds sword was probably not his brightest idea. Receiving a slash from Lowd for his troubles, Zeoll instantly felt diminished and painfully so upon grasping the assassins blade, then a contest of wills pursued and Zeoll barely comes out the victor.
Zeoll takes 9pts of damage and must make a DC14 Fort save or fall unconscious for 3 hours.
Zeoll must make another DC21 Will save if he does not drop the sword by the end of his turn.
After muttering an apology to his friend Zeoll, Restlin steps back away from Lowd and lets loose another Glitterdust which covers both Zeoll and Lowd. Both seem unblinded, but Lowd lets out an expletive now that he's covered in Glitterdust once again.
Sliding in for the save, Wyaar slams into Lowd's feet and drops him on his butt like a sack of potatoes, but not before Lowd stabs his wavy dagger into the paladins leg.
Wyaar takes 7pts of damage and must make a DC14 Fort save or fall unconscious for 2 hours.
Charging the assassin, Beri finds that he's much to agile to hit and misses with his attack.
Charging to the attack, Bosk reaches out with his bastard sword and flicks Lowd's wavy dagger away, much to the assassin's dismay.
Also charging in, Zane strikes down at Lowd, but only hits the mud as he twists away.
In that brief moment, he lays there, Lowd smiles and says, "Cya later," and vanishes.

Zeoll is not about to relinquish the sword. Lowd could be anywhere, and then he could pick it up. Will save to resist the sword's evil magic: a 33, or rather, a 31 with the negative level penalty.

It was now becoming difficult to maintain one's footing in the slippery mud and the rushing water, but this event had a secondary benefit. Laying on the ground, where he was before, was an outline of Lowd's body, perfectly stationary--that is until the water began to push him to the southward. Sensing he had been found out, he quickly rose to his feet and made a break for it.

Difficult terrain in this entire area.
Perception DC12 to Highlight to display spoiler: {if you make your perception roll, everyone except Restlin may make two AoO's against Lowd. The first being at AC24, the second at AC28. No flank or sneak damage}

Bosk also sees Lowd, and his mind races as he decides between his trusty bastard sword and the assassin's own strength sapping dagger.
Perception check = 24
ooc: Before I roll for my atk, can I get the stats for the dagger with the dc 24 fort save vs poison? Can you also tell us if the glitterdust spell is still lighting Lowd up, this may impact me decision to trip as opposed to deal damage. Not sure if it matters, but the board ate my previous perception check, which I also passed.
Jim: unless you want to sit there and study it with Spellcraft, no, besides, it's in Zeoll's hands right now. He is slightly glittery--hence the -40 to his stealth.

Bosk AC: 26/14/23 (+1 added for Haste) CMD:23 HP 53 of 64 Spells Wednesday June 27th, 2012 12:10:12 AM
As Bosk prepares to attack Lowd he realizes that the sword spoke to Zeoll, the sword was sentient! Everything he learned in becoming an Eye of Gargul taught him that such items were an abomination and needed to be destroyed, but at the same time the thought of that power intrigued him. Surely it wouldn't hurt to use the sword to avenge the kon's death before destroying it...and if Lowd's death doesn't put the reverent at peace the sword would help me to kill the undead inn keeper or to more easily achieve his revenge. The cleric knew that reasoning with ones self was always the first step to giving in to temptation, but before him were a sword, assassin, and reverent that all needed destroying and both Heather and the undead were needing his assistance in getting their revenge. What would be the harm in making the sword his lowest priority, as long as it gone done eventually......deep within him he can feel his desires as an Avenger and as a Grim at war war with each other.

When he spots Lowd, Wyar also drops faerie fire on top of him, outlining the assassin and himself in purple fire. He then moves after the assassin, trudging through the water to try and kick his feet out from under him again. (trip vs CMD 27)

Zeoll (HP17 of 39, AC22, 24 vs Lowd with Bard Performance, CMD15) d20+7=27 ; d20+13=22 ; d20+10=30 ; d20+10=22 ; d8+10=12 ; d20+10=26 ; d8=4 ; Wednesday June 27th, 2012 10:03:05 AM
Zeoll's perception, usually a +15, gets +2 heroism -2 neg levels and -8 weather mods for a net +7. His roll is a nat 20 - 27, and he sees Lowd clearly. He takes his two swipes at the man, using the evil sword he is holding!
But what if the sword controls our hero? Zeoll rolls his will save. He usually has a +13, +2 heroism, -2 for negative levels. He has to get a 21. He takes a chance, knowing that he can rely on a hero point and his inspiration spells if he falls short. He rolls a 22, and continues to dominate the weapon!
Zeoll's BAB is +4, and he has a -1 size modifier. Although he is large, he uses medium size weapons, so there is no penalty for using inappropriately sized weapons. The weapon is +5. Add in -2 for negative levels +2 heroism +2 bard performance.
So with a total attack mod of +4-1+5-2+2+2 = +10, Zeoll rolls those AoOs: He rolls a natural 20! He follows up to confirm with a 22, not quite good enough! His damage is 1d8+5. OOPS Rolled 1d8+10 by accident. That's really 7 damage to Lowd, not 12.
For his next AoO, presumably at the start of the next round, Zeoll rolls again ... a 26, and a miss.
"Take that!" shouts Zeoll, to both sword and assassin. "Hair of the dog indeed!"
AoOs out of the way, for the new round Zeoll uses his wand for more curing (heals 5) and then takes a five foot step hoping to help flank. He maintains his bard performance, too.

Heranmar Inn-- Outside 8 -- Jim C d8=2 ; Wednesday June 27th, 2012 3:50:20 PM
Making a break for it, Lowd bursts through the crowd getting slashed three times--once by his own sword! However his escape is shortened by Wyaar kicking his feet out again, and he goes tumbling back into the water. As the rest either heal themselves or cast spells to help the group, Lowd mutters, "Come on boots, do your thing" and he rises 15' into the air, where he is instantly caught by the storm winds and sent 80' to the South Southwest. Only Zane and Wyaar are within weapons reach when he is borne away on the wind.
Zane and Wyaar may take one AoO on Lowd, AC24
It is difficult terrain and visibility is poor, so each square of movement counts as 20', not 5'. Also, you cannot run or charge. Concentration rolls are required for spell casting and the DC is 15 + spell level.
You are approximately 240' from the inn.
Another bigger wave is coming.

Heranmar Inn -- Jim C Wednesday June 27th, 2012 6:39:36 PM
With a stern admonishment from Wyaar, the paladin smites the evil that is Lowd, crushing his ribs deep into his lungs. The assassin's body flies free in the wind as the Innkeeper finally arrives on the scene. "By the gods, I'm free. So long have I been like this, it... it's finally over." Falling to one knee, the Revenant pulls free a small locked box from his corpse and hands it to Wyaar. "Thank you, thank you for freeing me." Laying down in the turbulent waters, the Innkeeper dies his final death--the source of his revenge finally dead after so many years.
As the group stands there, a 6' wave thunders into view and it's all they can do to save their lives as they are pummeled by the wave, lifted and pushed some 60' South.
You are somewhat closer to the inn now that the water has swept you away, but to survive and not drown, I need everyone to make 4 Swim rolls to make it back to the inn.
