Having checked the short hallway and looked over the door itself nothing dangerous is noticed. From the other side of the door very soft sounds of moving about can be heard. You're not sure if it's people trying to be quiet or if it's a good distance from the door itself. The door has a latch opener and the hinges are on the other side of the door frame.

OOC: sorry for the late post, spent all day driving between Dr. appointments in Albany. (an hour and a half from home) For those who don't know I'm in the last steps of getting Gastric Bypass Surgery. All the testing and blood work and stuff, so Dr. days for me are gonna be rough as we combine 2-6 appointments in 1 day to save extra trips to the city. I've got 1 more day this month, but it should be an easy day. Next month after the 4th it gets messy, the 5th and 9th are gonna be the worst then Surgery on the 18th. So from the 16th until when I'm up to Dave will be taking back over. I'm also working on the next module which should be about beginning at Surgery time if things go somewhat smoothly. Just filling you all in to my approaching stuff, in case I seem a bit out of it.

And now back to our regularly scheduled show?

Revi kicks open the door, it slams open breaking the lifting lever which held it shut. Lia has finds her magic once again seems to be working, and is ready for....

What is seen is a 80 by 90 room which is used as a warehouse, there are crates and boxes scattered all around, as well as a large number of Orcs.

Stepping forward and setting both hands gripping tightly on her two handed sword, she continued, "I likes them chopped, skewered, quartered, julienned, hell, I'll take them anyway they want too on the end of my sword. Tishe' is neither very perceptive or knows much about ceremonies. She does know about orcs and how prevelant they are, especially suseptible in being the toadies of some great evil or another.

"Prisoners!" she calls to her packmates, "we could use a couple of intelligent-looking prisoners to get some information. Don't kill all of them."

"Push into the warehouse and spread out a little, get our defenses up. Then we can deal with the orcs."

Tishe' squeezes through her packmates and through the door, stepping to the left 10 feet to clear the door for everyone else. She then casts a spell on her packmates to make it much easier to move in the crowded, box-strewn room.

Thar follows the others into the room, and moves quickly to the right, preparing a spell... He's been a bit restless since they haven't had a good fight in a while and the thought of eliminating some verminous orcs quickens his heart...

He looks to see what sort of enemies they're facing and what they're doing... (Perc = 29)

Cast = SM V, bringing forth Gary, the Celestial Griffon to a spot about 20' up, to the Right of the closest group of enemies. He'll come forth at the b/g of next round...

Upon closer look the Orcs are not really Orcs anymore. They seem to be undead of some sort. There is still flesh on them, so maybe they only recently joined the land of the living dead...

"Oh crud" Not one for face-to-face combat, Lia takes actions to try and defend herself as best she can.

A rod appears in her hand for the briefest of moments as she quickly hastens the party (Cast Haste on Everyone. Duration 14rnds).

She then looks for several free patches of earth between the party and the orcs in which to summon aid (Use Summoner ability to call forth 3 Large Earth elementals to act as blockers)

Free action: Retrieve Rod of Lesser Quicken from Glove of Storing
Swift action: Cast Haste on all members of the party - Duration 14rnds
Free action: Store Rod back in Glove

Notes:
- The Summoner ability to summon monsters has a casting time of a standard action rather than full round, and also changes the duration from rounds to minutes.

With the undead orcs attention on the group and Revi, the centaur monk will use his abundant step to appear behind the group of charging undead so that he will be able to fire at them from behind as they charge the door.

With all of the combatants having moved, we will all start fresh. The Group gets moves and attacks from this point, that will include any all actions, I allowed Caedmon to Abundant Step, Lia got off a Haste, Revi kicked open the door, Tishe` got off her spell, Thar moved into the room.
The Orcs all moved, and well, they don't seem to be shambling around like a zombie, they seemed to rush the group at the door, none have noticed Caedmon behind them yet.

Here is the map, with everyone moved, the group gets moves and attacks for round 1.

Seeing that a lot of unfriendly orcs are surrounding him, Thar casts Blade Barrier, creating a wall from G3 to G13 (have it come short of where Caedmon is)... (The way the spell reads, it gives me an option of how long I want it to be... in this cast, it's shorter than normal)...

For Orcs 4 9 15 20 25 31 36, they take 49 pts of dmg (Reflex DC 23 for 1/2 dmg). If an enemy can move 1 spot to clear space with Reflex save, they take no dmg. Most can't get to a clear area...

OOC: I hope you don't mind my reusing my unused rolls from two days ago. It takes about 20 minutes to roll all of the attacks and damage so I am trying to save time by copying and pasting those that were unused. If there is a problem let me know and I'll reroll.

As she raised her blade to strike, magic was being shot off everywhere--it was enough to make one hate magic itself since it was so...easy. But oh well, as long as it was on her side, she was all good with it.

Not even calling upon her rage, or power attacks, she decided to size up the beast in front of her and just attack it with her iceblade and then any that remained next to her.

A lot of things seem to happen almost simultaneously, the effect is rather impressive.
Thar summons a wall of blades, Lia summons a very big area of black tentacles, Revi moves Thar and switches places with him and Caedmon opens fire with a bow.

Revi starts with Orc #4, killing it, as it was hit with a blade barrier and grappled by the tentacles. The Orc exploded with spew and stuff spraying both Revi and Thar. Both Revi and Thar need a DC 23 Fort save.
Revi then kills #5, it also explodes causing Revi to make a DC 23 Fort save.
She then follows up attacking #6.
Caedmon buries 3 arrows into #40 before it explodes, then moves onto #39

If both Thar and Lia go back into the hallway, Revi will take a 5' step to 1F and hold the door.

Being splattered with goo kinda pisses Revi off, so she starts seeing red and attacks first #6 until dead, then #8 until dead then #9 if the blade barrier hasn't already killed him.

Wonky roller, but passed 2 for saves, failed one. Caedmon decides that these creatures are faster than he expected and uses his abundant step yet again to retreat behind the others. There just isn't quite enough room for him to use his impressive speed against such fast foes.

As he's splattered with goo and gunk, Thar holds his breath to avoid it (Fort = 20) but some of it gets in his mouth and nose...

He looks at the nearest orcs, and calls upon all that's good and mighty to destroy the undead orcs...

It goes out in a 30' radius burst, hitting each Orc with 19 pts of dmg (Will Save DC 16 for 1/2)

Then he steps back into the hallway, moving to the right to allow others to pass through...

You do realize that the hallway is only 5 feet with and 20' long before the stairs, there are 2 people D-dooring into the same general area, + 3 other medium sized people trying to stand in there as well.
I need a bit of clarification on everyone movement. I could just mess with the D-Doorers but I'm feeling generous.

OK,it's a bit confusing so here it is....

Thar takes 1 point of Con damage from the failed save.
Caedmon takes 2 points of Con damage from the failed save.

Revi takes a step back into the hallways opening, Caedmon uses his abundant step and appears behind Tishe. Thar tries to squeeze in, but Revi has to step forward to let him inside the hallway. Lia D-Doors and ends up on the bottom of the spiral stairway (Lia takes 5 damage as he spell shifts her slightly up the stairs rather than in the hallway.
Tishe casts a wind wall, Revi is standing mostly through the wall.

Some Orcs continue to attack Revi.

"Don't worry Revi, I'll heal you up if you suffer much damage... Let's see if we can boost your defenses up a bit... "

He can't see much ahead of him in the room but he can help Revi out... He'll touch her on the shoulder and use his "touch of good" ability, granting Revi a +5 Sacred Bonus to attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws. This lasts for one round...

OK, Everyone moves back 5 feet, after the first round, Revi will take 1 save rather than a bigger number. Only those Orc's dead center in front of her, until the wind wall fades away cause her to require a save. The wind wall is in effect for 13 rounds total. this being the 2nd round. so Revi will kill 19 more orcs before the wall fades. The Blade Barrier fades as well after a time.

Revi needs 3 saves this round, then 11 more for the Wind Wall duration, then 9 more after all of the spells fade away. Between the blade barrier and the black tentacles all of the rest die before reaching Revi and the Door.

Rolling the attacks of the orcs on Revi to see how many hit and require save as well. Revi got hit 3 times, one of which was a critical hit, total damage 44 plus 3 more DC23 fort saves

So Revi please make 26 DC 23 fort saves.

At the end of this, the room seems clear of enemies.

Revi stands there covered in goo, gore, and bits of this and that."Wow, that was something wasn't it? Anyone have a towel or moist napkin?" As she wipes the goo away, she feels a bit beat up. "Hey Thar, sugar, can you heal me a little, I'm feeling a little worse for wear."

Revi has a +22 part way through it because of rage, so she will only fail on a nat one. I included Thar's +5 sacred bonus cause it was there for the latter half, but it looks like she made all her rolls even with a 19+5, with the lowest being a 26. She is not fatigued either because of Heart of the Fields which I'm assuming she will use after the rage ends.

Since the battle is over, Thar has a chance to heal up Revi, and casts several spells:

1. Cure Critical Wounds which heals 33 points
2. Another CCW, which heals another 30 points
3. Finally, a CSW's, which heals another 28 points
Total Healing for Revi is 91 points

Then, he joins the others in searching throughout the room, checking boxes, walls, etc... Perc = 28

After a careful look at the damage done by the exploding zombies, the damage done to a person's constitution looks to be permanent.

Carefully moving into the room, nothing seems to be hiding in or around the crates and piles of broken crates scattered about the room.

After about 10 minutes of opening boxes and crates, it's discovered that they contain very fragile vials, no that's not the right word for them.... they almost look like they are made to be thrown or dropped and then shatter on impact spilling or spraying out whatever would be inside them. Highly specialized glass blown containers, very costly most likely.

Further examination and tracking of the sound, or almost subsound directs you to believe that it is coming from the closed doors. Listening closely there is almost a moaning sound and an occasional rattling of an iron door or grate.

The sound behind the doors is what really concerns him and it's likely that another set of undead may be behind them, even those with some sort of disease that they could transmit to the party....

Thar considers what Lia says and agrees, "It's time friends and how about we have our new elemental friend lead the charge into the room? Who wants to follow him in, maybe Revi? I'll stay next to our casters and use my bow and arrow to pick off their own castors or dispel some of their undead... If they've summoned creatures, then my Magic Circle should protect those near me..."

He casts spell resistance, 26 and then prepares to enter the room, bow in hand, waiting for Revi and the elemental to lead the way... He'll stay behind Revi to help protect her from summoned monsters...

The Elemental smashes open the double doors, he vanishes as soon as they open, immediately as it vanishes, a force wall appears blocking the doorway.

The room is about 40-45 feet wide (n-s) and almost 100 feet deep. On the left side of the room are three really big cages. The one nearest the group is 15x15 and contains a giant that is slowly rocking against the cage side. The middle one is 15x15 and is open and empty. The one closest to the other end of the laboratory is 10x10 and contains the body of Kahlan, it is moving a bit, but not very much.

There is a burgundy colored cloth lined chest leaned up against the far left corner, there is a half-elf apparently resting in it, her eyes are open, just has a snear on her face.

Near her is what can only be described as a beast, it's got a wolf's head, it's large in size with 4 arms and there are a great pair of bat wings growing out of it's back. It's wearing armor covering it's chest and is holding onto 2 very large scimitars? A two handed version of them, but dainty none the less.

In the center of the room at the far end is the dwarf most of the group recognizes.

"Ah my dear, your friends have finally decided to join us. It's too bad that I have yet to infect you, but with all of them here, they'll have to do."

He looks to the group, "It is just such a shame, you killed off the first batch of vessels that I was planning on releasing onto the Wold. I'll just have to infect all of you. Oh, I see a couple of you are already suffering from it, good, good. I will guarantee that before this day is over, you shall be of great assistance in helping my spreading of my God's fondish wish.

Now, before you get to rambunctious I think I'll let Ember and her pet as well as my faithful assistant, oh I guess I should include my newest addition as well, take care of you, you all shall make wonderful additions to my cause, and even though Kalhan here has so far resisted my gift, I'm fairly certin she'll change her mind come the full moon, the pain in her eyes will be well worth savoring for many years.....

They're all your my servants, take care of them, NOW!!"

Thar looks at the group inside and laughs with Revi's towards Skalipy... Adding to the insults, he says to their enemy, "Is that really the best that you can do? I would expected more from a dwarf... But I guess you're just a pathetic excuse for what's normally a noble race..."

To Lia, he says, "Yes, get a few of the melee types in there and then let's get this wall down ASAP...

"Tishe, can you blast through the wall of force? You're the best spell caster of the group, right?"


For now, he wants to keep the baddies busy... He'll cast SM6, trying to get Truman, the Angry Dire Tiger right next to Skalipy... It'll appear at the end of this turn...

The various teleports and dimension doors go off. One dropping Tishe` and Thar near the cages. The other drops Lia, Revi and Caedmon right up close to Skalippy. Revi, being ready to attack, viciously unleashes a series of attacks. As she hits Skilippy for the first time, he begins to laugh hysterically, then she notices that absolutely no damage has been done, her sword just cleaved right through him doing no damage.
The image of him just fades away after it started to laugh.
The Monster leaps 15' into the air(above the reach of medium side players and of Caedmon), and quickly flies over the group, deciding to focus on Rinn. Rinn gets hit 1 time, taking 18 damage from the weapon, then adding 12 damage from the unholy blade.
Ember turns into a mist but remains just where she was.
An Oni appears behind Thar and Tishe, attacking Thar from behind while invisible . He Critically hits Thar for 41 damage.
An arrow from above and behind strikes the floor very near Caedmon, it missed him.
Revi gets struck by a black ray, Damage 100 or Fort save DC 23 for 13. The ray came from somewhere in the middle area of the room.

(OOC DM - First, I summoned Truman, the angry dire celestial tiger a few rounds ago... I didn't have a spot but noted that he was behind Skalipy... First, Revi, you can't reach the flying monster, it is 15' in the air. You can reach a total of 15' up, his feet are at that level so you can't attack him. But remember he has reach(10' for being large), so he could attack you.

Tishe' knows Skalipy is the main target, but the Oni is the closer threat. Thar's spell should eliminate the dwarf's invisibility, which let's the witch take care of the magical ogre.

Casting defensively, Tishe' sets a Quickened Scorching Ray and a Scorching Ray to battle against the Oni!

Then she keeps still, only READYING a counterspell for anything Skalipy will cast.

As Rinn was brought into play via the Summon spell, he gets +4 Str & +4 Con thanks to Lia's Augmented Summoning feat. This equates to +22 HP. Less the 30 damage he just took means he loses 8pts.

Ok, this could get messy, but here it goes.

Thar steps back and casts Invisibility Purge, as it's cast, it gets countered by Ember. His Celestial Dire Tiger hits one time with a claw.
Tishe' hits the Oni with 5 of the 6 beams from her spell.
Caedmon hits the monster twice.
Lia looks about and spots Skalipy, and he's still invisible, casting Glitter Dust at him, the spell fails to effect him, there seems to be some sort of Globe about him.
Revi hops onto the table so she can reach the monster, swinging at him.
Those near the monster notice that most of the damage was reduced.

The Monster rises up another 5 feet and moves to a new location. He swings one of his swords at Revi. He misses.
Ember still a gaseous cloud moves a bit out into the room.
The Oni goes invisible. (Tishe' I can't find your spell list so no counterspell this round)
From above, 6 arrows come slashing down, 2 hit Lia. Lia takes 4 damage +3 cold, 4 damage +4 cold.
Skalipy notices Lia's spell fail to hit him, and so retaliates. Lia takes 170 damage, DC 24 Fort Save for 27 damage.

Tishe' winces as she was not quite ready for Skalipy's spell, and feels that Skalipy has been more than prepared for the usual tactics of the team. Ember, the Monster, the invisible Oni, the invisible Skalipy... each supports and protects the other. Yet if one piece is removed...

Assuming the tiger moves (either to go after Ember, or even just 5ft to the right...


"Owwww" Lia's body goes rigid as the black ray hits her. She manages to shake off the majority of effects, barely, only to be hit by 2 arrows. "Ok, THAT hurt".

Her metamagic rod appears briefly in her hand as she casts a spell to speed up the fighters in the party. Just as quickly the rod is gone.

She notices the giant is still trapped - likely the giant "Rolf". "Who would you fight alongside? Are you Rolf?" she calls out to him in the giant tongue.

She doesn't wait for a response. The half-elf spies a nice quiet spot against the wall that looks to have some cover from the table. She quickly makes for it, and casts some extra protection for herself against more possible spells once there. From her vantage point, she tries to keep track of the dwarf's movements.

Rinn steps closer to the flying monster again. His summoner has been hurt, and these foes must fall. He tries to rip shreds from the flying monster.

DM: The monster is at 20' height, but yes Rinn gets an AoO as it leaves the square, but even with reach Rinn can't hit the monster at that height. If Rinn steps on the table, it will colaspe under his weight( the squares stepped on) leaving him at floor level again.

Unable to reach the flying monster and not being told where Skalipy is, Revi turns and charges Ember from the tabletop (mass feather step makes this possible) with one fierce overhand vital strike.

Hopefully this is just gaseous form and not some other type of spell

Thar joins the others in focusing upon 1 threat at a time...

First, Thar's tiger moves from its position to allow Rinn to move in and attack too... Truman can't reach the flying monster from his current spot, so he'll use his scent ability to try to find the Omni while moving to Thar's spot weaving through the room... (Can smell w/in 30', Perc = 25. ALSO, if he comes within 5' of an invisible enemy, he can detect its location automatically... )

So he'll move in a Z pattern around his friends to the West and try to end up next to Thar and Tishe... HOWEVER if he at any times detects the enemy, he'll try to rip and grab at it, keeping it in one place so the others can hit it...

Attack with Grab (he has the grapple ability so no AoO) = Hit AC 25 for 11 damage + begins grapple...
CMB Attack = (+23)+1 (Haste) = 25


Second, Thar calls out to Lia, "If you can make it over here, maybe around the room to me, I'll heal you!" For now, he can't reach anyone in particular... However, his bow is his best weapon at this time...

As a swift Action, he'll use his Weapons Master ability, which gives him the use of any 1 combat feat for 11 rounds. In this case, he'll use Blind Fighting, helping him with getting shots at his foes and helping him defend against them ...

If the flying monster is still alive, he'll launch a flurry of arrows at it. If not, then he'll shoot at whatever Truman finds... If not, then he'll attack whatever enemy he can see...

Caedmon unleashes a flurry of arrows at the Monster and all of them hit, as usual most of the damage seems to be absorbed.
Tishe` casts a fireball at the monster and it deftly avoids at least half of the damage.
Lia casts Haste on those around the table in that corner of the room, then casts spell turning to try and protect herself from further spell damage.
Rinn gets an AoO, but then loses his target because it's too high up in the air.
Revi charges at Ember who is a mist and chops at it, doing some damage.
Thar shoots the Monster, hitting one time.
Truman finds the Oni, just after it attacked Caedmon, and hits him, but fails to grapple him.

Ember turns solid and attacks Revi, slamming into her with her fists, doing 14 damage and 2 negative levels. both of the follow up punches (fingernails) missed.
The Monster swoops in behind her and attacks with a large elven curve blade. It critically hits her doing 45 damage with it.
The only popped out of invisibility and attacks Caedmon hitting him one time doing 13 damage.
From above the "archer" shoots at Lia again, this time she has some cover. She gets hit one time, the cover didn't help with the arrow that struck true. She takes 3 damage and 4 from the cold.
Skalipy who still seems not to be found, unleashes a Fire Storm on the room. Damage 57 DC 25 Reflex for half. If save failed take 11 damage for being on fire.

The Monster looks very hurt, even with it's reduction of all the damage that's being done to it.
Ember has been hit, hard, but not seriously.
The Oni has taken some damage.

Fire Storm

When a fire storm spell is cast, the whole area is shot through with sheets of roaring flame. The raging flames do not harm natural vegetation, ground cover, or any plant creatures in the area that you wish to exclude from damage. Any other creature within the area takes 1d6 points of fire damage per caster level (maximum 20d6). Creatures that fail their Reflex save catch on fire, taking 4d6 points of fire damage each round until the flames are extinguished. Extinguishing the flames is a full-round action that requires a DC 20 Reflex save.

Lia gets hit by yet another arrow, and starts to feel a bit like a pin cushion. That changes to feeling like a pig on a spit as the room erupts in flames. She quickly pats out the fire that starts on her sleeve and looks about the room for a number of things - a safe spot to hide, a healer, and the dwarf.

Tishe' blinks but can do nothing more as the sheets of fire run through the room (ooc: affecting the opponents too?) and she is in flames!

The witch realizes that her seconds are numbered and realizes that the others are nothing compared to the incredible power Skalipy has discovered. He needs to be found so when her packmates are able to defeat the minions, they can concentrate on the master.

Tishe' goes defensive, digging into her other dimensional pockets and pulling out a scroll. Tishe' knows Ember is engaged with Revi and should be occupied, and hopes that with what may be her last act before death, that the spell goes well. Ignoring the flames blackening her skin and shrivelling her hair, she casts the spell into the room!

(DM - I've got SR 26 so could you let me know if Skailpy's firestorm gets through it or not?)

Thar and Truman feel the intense heat from the flames, and he tries to duck to avoid most of it (Reflex = 32) and only takes ??? pts of dmg (depending on SR - if it gets through, then 26 pts)... Meanwhile, Truman isn't so lucky and takes the full brunt of the fire, taking 57 points of dmg...

For now, Truman will continue biting and grabbing at the Oni, trying to keep it pinned down for now, and uses his Smite Evil too to add to his attacks...

Ember, in mid attack from Revi, dissolves into a mist again, and further attacks seem to just pass through her.
The monster, just vanishes at the same time as Ember became mist.... Or, did it actually die?
The Oni dies in an explosion with a 20' radius. Fort save DC 28 or take 2 con damage.
From up above there is heard a pop, as if someone just teleported away.
From over near the fire pots, "Well, you may have bested my minions, but remember this, I will succeed in spreading this plague, some of you are already afflicted with it, it will be glorious."
With that another pop is heard and Lia can verify that Skalipy is gone.

Those on fire need another save DC 20 reflex of take 12 more damage from the fire that is burning their clothes.

Add 56,000 xp , but we still have a day so....

@DM, ust Delmah, namely It'lal where the characters will be spending their off-time, it a lot like the cinnamon valley, sorta. It's ruled by a council of three women, it's isolated. Farther down the mountain are other villages occupied by humans and others. It'lal itself is not all drow. The Floating City is a teleport away and then Plateau City is another public teleport away. There's lots to do and plenty of building going on and it perhaps the fastest growing community in the Wold.

Thar growls as Skalipy and the others escape, again avoiding the justice those vermin deserve...

He'll leave Truman summoned for now, asking it to help guard against any other threats that might appear, smelling and scouting the room for invisible enemies or those who are infected...

Thar, did you fail any of the saves from the exploding zombies? If so, need more saves from you.

As to treasure, I know it's really only important to Thar, but it should be discussed at least a little.

You got treasure from the animal undead in the woods, you skipped the village, you got some of the treasure in the prior Orc lair.
The rest will be gold and gems, found in a under the fire pot tunnel that's big enough to fit Rolf and leads out a couple miles from the path up.

A fast OOC here folks about knowing your enemy. Skalipy has been faced before. His tactics were well known to some of the group. Teleporting is a way of life for him. He uses it, his minions have usually had some way of doing it through boots, helms or rings of spell storing. Know your enemy to defeat your enemy. He has plans, plans that would be compromised by his death. His minions are and always have been expendable to him. Once they die, he always bugs out. Dimensional anchor and spells like it stop these things from happening. I coached John on what circumstances should lead to Skalipy's death. Chief among those circumstances was robbing him of his ever-present escape route of teleportation. Another was suddenly cornering him and ripping him to shreds, but he is a sly and very self preserving fighter. He learned from his last run in with the group and evolved ways around constantly being counterspelled. Try to keep things like this in mind when facing a recurring foe.
Thanks for the opportunity of letting me DM some of you at the start of this campaign. We worked out alot of issues and you guys helped make me into a better DM by using tactics I normally don't see to get out of the traps I laid for you. I wish you all luck in the next stage of your Woldian lives. Since John will still be part of the team of your campaign, I would expect Skalipy to show up again, somewhere, somehow.
