Heranmar Inn -- Jim C Thursday June 28th, 2012 5:22:22 PM
Swimming for their lives, the Iron Adventurers battle against the currents and some fail--most notably Wyaar and Zeoll, who both go underwater and out of sight. The rest make no headway against the incoming deluge except for Zane and Beri. But Beri's efforts are shortlived as he joins Wyaar, Zeoll and now Restlin under the surface of the turbulent waters pushing everyone Southward.
Through skill and luck, most in the group find themselves nearing the walls of the inn, where the waters have formed an eddy of crosscurrents pulling them closer to the inn walls and making it easier to fight against incoming waves. Everyone but Wyaar manages to circle around the inns walls and make the final push for the inn itself and grabbing onto the porch columns before they possibly collapse, except for Restlin who gets sucked under approximately 30' from the inn and Wyaar who finally surfaces but is more than 90' away from the inn to the Southwest. If they are to be rescued, the time is now.
Wyaar will have to make 3 swim rolls, DC15 to make it back to the inn. Anyone trying to rescue him will have to make 3 DC10 swim rolls to get to him, then 3 DC10 Aid another rolls, then 3 DC15 swim rolls to get back.
Restlin needs to make 1 swim roll, DC15 to make it back to the inn. Anyone trying to rescue him will have to make 1 DC10 swim roll to get to him, then 1 DC10 Aid another roll, then 1 DC15 swim roll to get back.

The water is quickly rising; the outer wall that protects the inn looks to be holding fast, but since there is no gate, the water is rushing in. Soon the first floor will be flooded, only leaving you the upper floor and maybe then the roof to take refuge. Better hurry inside before you're swept away.

"That wall may not keep the water out, but hopefully it will at least break the waves and currents enough to stop them from tearing this place apart."
He fetches the length of rope he left here just before they chased down Lowd. "I have rope if anyone needs it. Maybe we should tie ourselves to each other just in case someone scrawny needs to get saved by a minotaur or something."

General knowledge check is 17. Knowledge geography brings that to a 28, local a 29 if that matters.
Here's how I'd like this to work. The rope can go up to 30' in the air from where I cast it. Ideally, it would be from the 2nd floor through the roof somehow to avoid having to cast it in a hurricane. Once it's cast, it takes 16,000 pounds to pull it free, so we should be fine there. We can use Bosk's rope to tie ourselves together, then have the minotaurs go first, followed by the humans/elves, followed by Zeoll who may need to be pulled up...I don't know. Can a liontaur climb a rope?
If the rope trick portal ends up being below the flood waters, there's nothing to stop them from rushing in and drowning us anyway, so we'll need to aim high.

Saving the day, or at least a very wet five hours, Restlin casts his spell and the group eventually all climb in.
Hours pass as the storm rages on and slowly recedes from the area. Nearing the end of the spell, a quick check shows that the inn is gone, yet the walls still remain. He unfurls his bedroll next to the newcomer, plops himself on his butt and slaps Wyaar on the back. "I bet you thought you were just in for a quiet trip to Heranmar, didn't you? Well, this is a far cry from our tower back in Hook City, but it'll do in a pinch. If you're not doing anything with the rest of your life, you've more than proven your worth if you'd care to stick around and share some adventures."
He turns to Zeoll, pulling a small atomizer of cologne out and spraying himself. Though he dowses himself in the stuff, there's no scent, but he seems much relieved after (cologne of long-suffering - 8 hours of freedom from the smell of taurs in close quarters - Restlin does not share this information). "Zeoll! Tell him about our lost fortune..."

Beriothian (Will)-- AC:27/16/16 HP: 28/62 CMD = 23 d20+10=28 ; Monday July 2nd, 2012 9:27:33 PM I've developed a skillful tongue over the last century or so, perhaps I can make some sense of that rune. The elf takes the box and carefully examines the rune. He tries to use his knowledge of linguistics to decipher the meaning, or at the very least the origins of the rune.

Heranmar Inn -- Jim C Monday July 2nd, 2012 10:04:05 PM
Looking at the rune carefully, it's nothing that Beri recognizes. If he had a magnifying glass it may help, then again he's of the opinion that it's not a magical rune, but perhaps a set of intials?

As the group waits Bosk will cast detect magic to check for enemies, dropped equiptment, and to see if the box is magically locked or if the lock could be picked.
Heranmar -- Jim C Tuesday July 3rd, 2012 4:22:56 PM
As the group continues to walk toward Heranmar, the box is examined some more and found to be non-magical--or at least it doesn't radiate any magic. There is no lock or any other means of opening the box as it has no signs of a lid, etc... it seems solid except for the locket-sized depression. The rune in the depression upon careful examination looks to be three initials: HBI (note it is common for the initial of the last name to be in the center), with the B being larger than the rest.

Heranmar -- Jim C Thursday July 5th, 2012 3:46:28 PM
As the group approaches the gates to Heranmar, many survivors of the storm are coming in and out of the opened gates--even though it is early morning. Their reasons are many, but mostly because they either have no home, or are going out to the farmlands to see if their relatives are still alive. The gate guards are so busy in directing the flow of traffic they take little notice of the group and concentrate more on making way for the exiting carts filled with the dead bodies of those that were killed in the storm.
Inside the fist level of the city seems to be destroyed, nothing but debris remains. On the upper levels, higher on the bluff, there is wind damaged structures, but most are in tact. All inns in this area are fully occupied--maybe something higher up has an occupancy?
Where too guys?

The liontaur uses his Pearl of Power to recall the Honeyed Tongue spell that has recently expired, and then casts it to give his Gather Info check a +5.

Heranmar -- Jim C Friday July 6th, 2012 5:22:56 PM
As the group moves through the devastation, much help is needed and they being good souls, help where possible. Many dead bodies need carting off and many more living ones need healing to avoid dying. The group helps where it can and after several hours they are tired and famished working through the early morning--the groups healing spells are also depleted as the cries for help and the suffering that is so abundant cannot be turned away.
One individual is of particular help to Zeoll as he helps and gathers information from the citizens of Heranmar. An elderly lady who seems to have lost everything stoically sits amid the rubble of her house and when Zeoll asks her if she knew anything about the Heranmar Inn, she relates what she knows. "Ah yes, the Heranmar Inn. It's been a long time since that place was in business, more than 20 years I would think. It used to be owned by Harrold Brody and his wife, Heather--before they were killed by Harrolds best friend, Lowd Ojal, in a fit of jealously. Poor things, just had a baby too."
Restlin (Carl) -- AC: 18/16/16 CMD: 15 HP:40/40 (Spells) Saturday July 7th, 2012 1:01:33 AM
Restlin looks on incredulously. "What? Jealousy? Did we go through all this because of some love triangle?"
He turns to the other Iron Adventurers, his voice lower. "Zeoll, find out more. I'm going to be really angry if we lost two friends last night because of something that petty."
Wyaar (JonL) AC 24/17/19 CMD 23 HP 61/62 Saturday July 7th, 2012 8:58:00 AM

Zeoll mentions to the lady how important the information is. "People's lives arre depending on it. Therre have alrready been, I'm sorrry to say, many deaths. Please trry to rrecall whateverr you can." As Zeoll says this, he reaches out to take the lady's hand.
Zeoll is using his Memory Subdomain Power of Recall to help the old lady remember. She can make an appropriate knowledge check (local?) with a +7 bonus based on Zeoll's Chr.
Recall (Su): With a touch, you can cause a creature to recall some bit of forgotten lore or information. The creature can retry any Knowledge skill check it has made within the past minute, gaining a insight bonus on the check equal to your Wisdom modifier. You can use this ability a number times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.
Zeoll has the domain from his Cradled levels and so uses his Chr.

Bosk AC: 25/13/23 CMD:23 HP 64 of 64 Spells Monday July 9th, 2012 11:49:29 AM
Bosk thinks back to when he talked to Heather after the ceremony of the Edge and jolts his head up as he remembers some forgotten information and quickly whispers to Zeoll and the rest of the group. I believe Heather was not the baby, Clarissa was! Heather told me she ran away from home after Clarissa was born because she was "no longer wanted by her parents and they could not afford more mouths at the time". She had overheard them say they were going to marry her off for compensation, so she left with what she had. She became lost in the forest and survived by instinct for a week, until she was found by an old witch, that offered her enslavement or she would leave her to her death. She didn't care anymore, but she knew, if she wanted enslavement, she wouldn't have run away, so she told her farewell. With that the witch said, "That will do". She then cast a spell and Heather awoke in her cave. She introduced her to The Edge. Perhaps Clarissa has the locket and Lowd was the one intending to marry Heather?
Old lady O'brian -- Jim C Monday July 9th, 2012 2:31:25 PM "I'm afraid I don't remember much more," replies the old lady, even after Zeoll's help.

The Rotten Tomatoe Inn -- Jim C Thursday July 12th, 2012 12:06:50 AM Woot, good to be back!

Zane, having helped to clean up some of the wreckage is more than ready to find a place to sleep. "Here's a thought. With all of this destruction, I very much doubt that any room we find will be inexpensive. People tend to raise their prices when what they have is no longer a common commodity."

Unfortunately it would seem that the Catacombs entrance was also affected by the storm is temporarily out of service.

Bosk AC: 25/13/23 CMD:23 HP 64 of 64 Spells Wednesday July 18th, 2012 12:38:53 AM
The cleric shrugs. Different people get thier abillities from different sources, be it a divine source, nature, rituals and rules, or something born within. Most simple spells require no materials, but as spells get more powerful they often require additional components. My theory is the Wold requires balance, a material sacrifice for such power is a fair exchange and keeps us conscious of the value of our gifts. I would be willing to bet if you were to further delve into developing your gifts you would find there are spells you could only cast if you had certain items.
Restlin (Carl) -- AC: 18/16/16 CMD: 15 HP:40/40 (Spells) Wednesday July 18th, 2012 10:37:22 AM

Bosk AC: 25/13/23 CMD:23 HP 64 of 64 Spells Wednesday July 18th, 2012 12:09:38 PM I have been shown how to cast spells without needing any components, but I never put in the time to practice it and to develop the ability myself. The technique lets you draw on some inner or divine power at to use it in place of minor materials, say about a golds worth. I imagine you (Zane) must have been fortunate enough to stumble upon one such method without realizing it...not that I am an expert in your craft.
I have contemplated studying it myself, but never have had the time. Always something or someone else that seems a bigger priority. Anyway, I make do with keeping frequently used things on hand. I also buy scrolls that have the material components magical properties already imbued within them so I can cast them even if I don't have what I need on hand...but I didn't buy restoration yet.

I think it would be a good idea to sleep in shifts, in case Lowd has some friends who intend to pay us a visit tonight. I can take first watch. I also think we should inventory our loot , making sure to keep the cursed sword safely stowed away, to see what we got. Perhaps we have enough to get some scrolls of greater restoration. I don't like the idea of having to wait a week for everyone to be back at full strength. If not, it gives us reason to rest and get some training in at the WLA.
(Restoration can only restore 1 lvl per week)
Heranmar -- Jim C Wednesday July 18th, 2012 2:11:04 PM
With Wyaar feeling much better after Bosks restoration spell, the group sits wondering what to do. All around them the city is rebuilding, trying to pull people out of the rubble and restore services. Normally caravans would be leaving the city for Hook City and the group could catch a ride, but nothing is going out and probably won't for a week or more. To walk it alone would be dangerous and take two weeks time on foot, one week by horse. The Catacombs is down and there is suffering all around--the group could stay and help, the healing they could provide would be of tremendous help, but will they?

OOC Hi guys. John had his surgery today so I haven't talked to him yet. I will wing it for his post today building off what's going on. David Feest IC Zane looks around at the chaos. To his friends he says" Looks like we might have a rough time going anywhere with all this damage. We could probably hep alot of folks out right here. All I have is my own two hands but everyone seems to need help getting everything put to rights. What do you all think."
Restlin (Carl) -- AC: 18/16/16 CMD: 15 HP:40/40 (Spells) Wednesday July 18th, 2012 6:52:57 PM
"I agree we should lend a hand. I also think it couldn't hurt to earn the Iron Adventurers some good will, either, so be sure people know who's helping them...
"We also need to treat finding this amulet as a priority, though. We could let Zeoll handle that while the rest of us get busy helping out. I have several spells I can prepare before we head out that would be useful."
Restlin will excuse himself to get preparing (OOC: I'll have an alternate list of spells up soon with things like grease, rope trick, fly, bull strength, shatter, etc...).
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:27/16/16 HP: 62/62 CMD = 23 Wednesday July 18th, 2012 10:01:09 PM "Agreed, leave it to the one with the silver tongue. Since it will be about two weeks before we get back to Hook City anyway I agree that we are better off helping here. I'm not much use when it comes to healing people, but give me a toolbox and I can work wonders. Besides, I probably have a few... specialty tools... that the average person doesn't have that will come in handy. Anyone want to come with me after breakfast to make sure any water pumps and other necessities are in working order?"

Spellcraft 10 to aid another he makes the 10 to aid another on all of the checks except the 18th and the 20th so +2 to Restlin's checks on all those attempts. OOC I am talking to John daily, He is through surgery and recovering fairly well, other than not sleeping and a great need to constantly visit the bathroom ( apparently they are really giving him alot of fluids.) Restlin, with Zane's help, figures out the loot particulars:
4 large +2 greataxes 1 large +2 glaive 4 rings of delayed doom (1 gem left each) 5 rings of protection +2 5 chain shirts +2 5 cloaks of resistance +3 10 +1 daggers 5 pair of boots of levitation

Beriothian (Will)-- AC:23/16/16 HP: 62/62 CMD = 23 Saturday July 21st, 2012 11:08:31 PM Woo! That ring of protection and that cloak of resistance are calling my name!

"I would not mind one of the cloaks either."
Zane Stormfront AC 27 CMD 23 HP 62/63 Sunday July 22nd, 2012 12:20:47 PM
Zane mentions that he would definitely like one of the rings of Protection. He also thinks that based on the remaining usefulness of the rings of delayed doom, they are worth more as treasure ( to be worn) than as loot and requests one of those as well. OOC If it is alright with you guys, I will postpone Zane's visit to the catacombs. I didn't hear back if it is alright for me to do it and since it is a whole 'nother board where confirmation is sent to his email it would be best if he does the transaction. Suffice it to say he wishes to visit the catacombs for a couple of purchases that he can do behind the scenes when he is back. He should be back by mid week.
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:23/16/16 HP: 62/62 CMD = 23 Sunday July 22nd, 2012 10:25:13 PM

OOC: Per kindly DM Jim's post above, Zeoll sneaks in 2 effective hours of crafting on each of the three charity days he spends in Heranmar. That's 6 hours he can put toward his upgraded cloak.
OOC: Also, kindly DM Jim, what's up over the three days with Zeoll's two negative levels? Any chance to get those removed?
Zeoll is happy to spend time helping people out (and working on his cloak in spare moments). He is disinterested in the loot. "I'll just take my sharre and sell it in the Catacombs," he says.
"Oh wait," Zeoll says, when he realizes he is upgrading his cloak from +1 to +2, and the loot includes 5 +3 cloaks. "Clearly, I should take a cloak and sell this one once I am done worrking on it."

Bosk works tirelessly healing the people of the city and taking advantage of his spells by shaping stone to reform the walls. When evening comes each night the cleric pulls out casks of ale from his bag and shares it with the group to help them unwind (subtracting 1 gallon per night from CS). The first day's work exhausts the taur, but the next morning he finds renewed vigor as his ring of sustenance kicks in and he finds he is able to get by on only a couple hours sleep, allowing him to catch up on his current crafting projects.
Actions: Finish upgrading cloak of Resistance to +3 = 18 Success! (DC needed = 15 {10+5 for accelerated crafting}. Took 2hrs first day and 8 the second, Bosk only needs 2 hrs sleep and spent the other 6 crafting) Upgrade BOH to Type 3 = 29 (DC needed = 24 {14+ 5 for accelerated crafting +5 for missing one requirement}. ooc: Bosk is more than willing to help people craft wondrous items. I have a ring of sustenance and have taken Gillin's Fast Forge Feat to help the group with crafting their more expensive items, but I have not yet come across the stylus I need to take advantage of that feat. As such, I would prefer to wait on crafting items that take more than 3-4 days of crafting time until Bosk comes across a stylus.
Restlin (Carl) -- AC: 18/16/16 CMD: 15 HP:40/40 (Spells) Monday July 23rd, 2012 1:03:39 PM
Returning from a trip to the Catacombs one evening, Restlin hands Bosk two pouches.
"Diamond dust. I know we're all busy, but I'd surely appreciate feeling like myself again when you're able to use that."
To his credit, Restlin does indeed work tirelessly. Lacking anything resembling physical strength, he instead uses his magic to speed up the construction process. Though he looks consistently fabulous throughout the ordeal, he sleeps very soundly at night.
***
Restlin would appreciate a headband of vast intellect +4. At 8000gp crafted, that's 4 days accelerated crafting, yes? Is that do-able?
Restlin also has the forge ring feat if anyone needs it, though he lacks the time to craft that Bosk has.
Heranmar -- Jim C Monday July 23rd, 2012 2:50:30 PM @Bosk, sorry, but I'm not going to allow you to use the Ring of Sustenance in that manner. You only get 2hrs a day crafting with or without the ring basically because of the conditions you're in (adventuring). Please modify your results for this.

OOC I spoke to John today and he SHOULD be going home tonight, though there seems to be some issue with his medication that is holding him up. If he does go home tonight he should resume posting for himself tomorrow. IC Zane lacks useful spells to help with clearing rubble or rebuilding so he does it the old fashioned way, manual labor. OOC: Was there also a "wavy dagger," Jim? Is the module over yet? XP? Hero Points?
Zeoll goes through all the loot and divides it into six piles:
Beri 1 ring of protection +2 1 cloak of resistance +3 1 large +2 glaive 1 pair of boots of levitation 2 +1 daggers
Zane 1 ring of delayed doom (1 gem left) 1 ring of protection +2 1 pair of boots of levitation 2 large +2 greataxes

Bosk 1 ring of delayed doom (1 gem left) 1 pair of boots of levitation 1 cloak of resistance +3 4 +1 daggers 2 suits +2 armor
"Well, that's prretty darrn fairr, I think," the seer says. "Each pile is worrth about 36,500 gp or so."
Zeoll is glad to spend an additional three days in helping out. He also squeezes in some crafting time here and there (another 6 hours at 2 hours/day).
After four days, Zeoll is done with his cloak upgrade. The Spellcraft Check for Zeoll's Crafting, including a +10 Natural Divination Bonus, with a -5 for accelerated crafting ... a 34 no problem.
On the last two days, Zeoll spends all his time crafting, at 8 hours per day. On day 5 he makes his Manacles of Cooperation. His accelerated check is a 19. The DC is 6, so no problem.
On the last day, he starts work on his Headband of Chr. That thing will take more days of dedicated crafting to finish, though.
He also visits the Catacombs.
Zeoll (HP33 of 39, AC22, CMD15) Tuesday July 24th, 2012 3:47:24 PM
Over the six days that the party is in Heranmar, Zeoll also takes the time to cast Locate Object at different places around town and outside (2x per day). He is looking for the locket that would fit that box. He is also looking for Lowd's Corpse (I figure that's an "object" now. If not, I also can cast Locate Creature.)
He also uses a Dream spell to send a message to Magister Alister and to that inspector we are working for, to tell them about Lowd as well as the disaster around Heranmar.
OOC: I've updated Zeoll's sheet to subtract a hero point, update wand charges used, and update items made. But not to update the new loot. I gotta get to the CC first.

Oh, and will all the good deed-doing Zeoll is doing, does he cross paths with any clerics who can cast Restoration? That seems the best way to get this curse removed.
He also asks his friends if maybe the Iron Adventurers should invest in a party portable hole with the intent of storing all their evil toolery and hardware in the same place. He would hate for someone to reach in looking for a potion and accidentally grab the sword that drains two levels.
Stuff to put into the Bag of Evil Hardware Storage: intelligent sword of assassination; evil poker of making people blow up when they die; teleportal to eldritch realm of cyclopean horrors beyond space and time. Bosk joins the others in the trip to the Catacombs and thanks Restlin for diamond dust and casts restoration on those needing it (am I correct that there are two people with two negative levels each, ie needing two castings a week a part to restore them? I will buy the remaining dust at the Catacombs and am willing to pay a share of what it costs to heal the others).
Over the next few day Bosk is able to finish his cloak and nearly completes the upgrade to hhis BOH. In response to Beri's question he answers, Those boots are a bit complicated, and the going would be slow for me while traveling. They would take a week for me to make back at the tower, but while traveling it would take me nearly a month to complete, Something a bit simpler (lower CL) or less expensive (under $1000) I could liekly do on the trip back
Feeling very un-taur like at having repeatedly having to turn down his friends requests to craft items that he simply doesn't have the time for, the cleric spends what free time he as asking around about obtaining the special wooden stylus made of the wood of the Ishgara Tree that is needed to enter a pocket into the Cradle, where time moves more quickly so that he could better assist the group as opposed to feeling like a burden. He begins by enlisting Zeoll and Beri's help as they have proven themselves gifted in gathering information and finding obscure leads, and by asking Wyarr whom hi thinks he remember's Zeoll said something about him having a connection to the Fey. In addition, Bosk looks for a merchant among the carivans who might be selling poison, or at least the reagents to create such things, as they are not easy to come by in the Catacombs or in Hook City.

Bosk shoots Beri a could you really be that stupid look. As a general rule, unless such items are crafted by a god like Gargul, or at least tolerated by him as in the case of a few witches who somehow have him as a patron god only knows how they fanaggled that, such items are pure blasphemy. By thier very definition they are a mockery of life and usually are created by trapping a soul within the item. Evil or not, as a general rule intelligent items need to be destroyed. All the more reason if such item is evil.
Heranmar -- Jim C Wednesday July 25th, 2012 3:22:10 AM
On the morning of the seventh day, the group inquires about joining a caravan. Standard cost is 1gp per day of travel--you are basically paying for protection and to be able to sit in a wagon along some of the journey. Taurs cost 5gp a day and the length of the journey will be one week.
As they decide they also think back to all the good they did, letting it all absorb in. Unfortunately alot of their questions went unanswered--such as the missing locket, and Lowd's missing body, but that's life.
