Barratore is about to follow Broms advise when Harves arrives with the wand. Energy flows back into him somwhat at least and so he holds his ground and strikes down and to his left, but again his sword skips off stone and wounds nothing but the air.

Lemick gives the cowering kobolds a moment of his attention to be sure they remain cowering. He then worries their light source will soon go out and wishes to reveal more of the hallway should more be hiding.

Cast Light on front of shield. Then step to Y13 to look down the hallway.

He will step farther into the room to D12 allowing the others to get by him. He looks around the room trying to find all of the kobolds to see if any are hiding or laying traps. (perception check 20)

"Can we get out of this stinking hole yet? I am basically out of spells, Barratore is beat up and we have prisoners and more information to give the Fixers. If we press on, we could lose people and the information we already have. It is time to retreat and regroup."

Harvest is quick to act once she delivers the new wand to Gerox. She steps over to the bleeding minotaur and uses the healing wand, probably saving his life.

Barratore is glad of the healing but distracted by it, he misses K14s.

Brom chases after K17b and pins it to the wall, its guts pouring out onto the barbarian's hand.

Bralin comes to the rescue and stops on top of the lit square that is giving light to the room.

Peza follows Bralin and poses the question "Do we dollow them??", leaving the DM scratching his head (dollow?).

Lemick scowls at the kowarding kobold then casts Light on his shield and peeks down the back hallway. A surprise awaits him when he steps to Y13. A kobold goes BOO!.

Just kidding.

However, K1sc was waiting in hidding (see the two spoilers in previous post) for someone to do just that, peek around the corner.

DM NOTE: if you beat the DC18 Perception then you are not caught by surprise. If you don't beat the DC18 Perception, you are Surprised. This is an 'Ambush'. Barratore and Bralin failed their Perc, Brom made his. Lemck needs to roll his.

K1sc unleashes a burst of fire in Lemick's face. The blast extends out in a cone shape up to 15' also catching Bralin, Barratore, and Brom. Surprised PCs do not get their Dex bonus on their Ref Save.

Fire Damage: 7 , Ref DC10 for half: 3.

DM Note 1: if you fail your Ref Save, your flamable items on you will catch fire. You may take a Full Round Action to extiquish the fire.

DM Note 2: persuant that Lemick succeeds on his Perception check, he will get an AoO, however the Kobold has cover, so his AC will be 19. If Lemick succeeds on an AoO, then the kobold's Concentration check is 1. If that fails then the spell fails.

Gerox brings forth his Mighty Dancing Lights into the middle of the fracas. He sees no kobolds setting traps, however he does see the flash of flame engulf his friends (maybe).
BTW: D12 is inside the wall. :}

K1sc (regardless of what happens), then Withdraws back into the darkness.

K14s takes a step to A15 and stabs at Barratore, hit AC16.

Lemick only partially expected more kobolds behind the wall, and certainly not a blast a fire (Perception: 5 -- major fail). Moving his shield to cover himself doesn't prevent much as his motions are too slow (fail reflex. save 9)

OOC: Sorry group, set off the trap, failed save and burned everyone else.

The entire group is finally together and the thought of an organized retreat is sounding better as Gerox sounds as done as Lemick now.

"Barratore, go! We will hold them off for a moment while you squeeze through." Lemick isn't thrilled with this tactic, but he can't leave first with Barratore so close to collapse.

Lemick then attempts to fight defensively against the only kobold still in sight.

Fire! It is dismaying. There is much healing to be done here. But Barratore Steelwind is the most in need now. Harvest Moon invokes the wand of Torian Silverleaf one more time and touches the magic to the minotaur.

"Someone please pat out the fire upon Barratore Steelwind and Lemick 4-Leaf Sted," she calls as Brom follows after the spellcasting Small-eyes. She herself, charges to the wall, bringing her orbiting Ioun Stone Torch with her to light up the passageway for him.

DM OOC: to help a little bit, after Harvest's move, she can see down the back hallway. From X13 she sees a short hallway 10' long (X10-11) that opens up into a room. The West wall goes another 15 feet. At the edge of her light there is a back wall.
This makes the west wall 25' long.
The east wall of the hallway is only 10 feet long. So you can easly figure the room is at least a 15x15 if not a little wider on the east side.

Harvest Moon is torn. There are many here who need healing. But Brom also requires her aid. Without her light, he will not be able to see. And, after watching him run, there is no doubt that he will be able to catch the Small-eyes and slay it.

Then an idea comes to the half-elfish girl. She could leave the wand for the others. Lemick 4-Leaf Sted can most surely use the magic of Torian Silverleaf's healing wand. So too, has she seen Bralin the Stonesinger use such magic. And Crag Hammerfist. She could drop it here and tell the others. Then she would be free to follow Brom.

Harvest Moon vows to do just this, should the necessity arise.

The Flaming Mino in a fiery anger plasters the remaining resisting kobold.

Brom madly starts to follow the kobold spellcaster into the darkness but wisely stops short and decides to keep a lookout instead.
(DM OOC: i'll put Brom at X12)

Harvest desperately calls out for someone to help put the fire on the minotaur out, then reaches out and touches the Flaming Mino, healing him some. Then she moves over to the back hallway iluminating it.

The stench of burned hair and clothes permeate the room.

Lemick's first reaction is to ge the burning Mino out of the room and more harm, but no other attack follows or seems imminent as the sneaky spellcaster flees the scene and Harvest's light down the hallway shows no other kobold hord waiting. So he goes into a break-dancing routing and puts out his flaming clothes.

Bralin spends his valuable time putting out the fire on his precious beard.

Peza is determined not to let such an thing happen again and has her sights on that hallway, ready to pull the trigger.

Barratore does not wait for help and puts his own fire out.

DM OOC: i don't have Gerox's move but he can still post.

The chaos of the past hour seems have subsided somewhat. Two kobolds cower in the corners amids pools of kobold blood from their slain brothers and sisters (female kobolds defend the lair as much as male kobolds).
Dancing Lights flicker in a weird way and a square in the floor shines brightly. The bloody axe hangs motionless in the entryway, its blood now dried.

The WLA'ers seem to have a moment to take a deep breath and assess their situation. But then, things are rarely what they seem... :)

Brom and Harvest hear what could be 'whimpering' in the darkness in the room at the end of the corridor.

Gerox sighs as the heros move down yet another tunnel. He starts looking around the room looking for loot and other clues which might give some information on the larger bosses of the area. He doubts that he will find much in this kobold area but he isn't interested in moving into any big dark spider rooms by himself either.

"Someone should tie up those kobolds so when we get out of here in a hurry, we won't have to struggle with them."

Harvest hears something that might mean someone(s) in trouble, or might mean more trouble, coming from the back room, but her big heart compels her to investigate. As she starts down the hall, Brom interposes himself and holds her back. He goes first, he insists.

They both creep down the 10' hallway, and peek into the room, now quite lit up by the Waltzing Lights. Their keen eyes see two bundles. One in the southeast corner that clearly look like two humans tied up and gagged. The other 'bundle' is four young kobolds in the northeast corner, blocking another short hallway. The young kobolds sit huddled together quietly happing something, their lips quivering, their beedy eyes fixed upon the bloody weapon in Brom's hand.

The room is a well furnished (remember, these are kobolds, so 'well furnished' isn't exactly the human term) bedroom with oppulence in the kobold style. Clearly somekobold of high rank inhabited the room. There are piles of skins for bedding (you surmise), and a chair a bit large for a kobold with kobold symbols and pictograms crudely carved all over it.

The spellcaster is nowhere to be seen.

Bralin heals himself from the fire damage, but restoring much of his beard will take time.

Lemick picks up the healing wand Harvest dropped and heals Barratore some more. Ya never know what's up next. They haven't heard the Fat Lady sing yet.

OOC: we are still in Rounds, but I'll go ahead and get you moving towards the axe.

Peza focuses on the corridor, waiting, no, hoping, another kobold dares to poke its head out.

DM OOC: don't have Barratore's move yet but that's ok, he can do whatever, then do whatever again.

The two bound humans realize that there may be a rescue at hand and make louder moaning sounds through their gags.

Lemick checks out the cranking mechanism for the axe trap. It is a simple handle that when cranked, pulls the axe back into the ceiling. Breaking the crank should disable the trap until the crank is fixed. It is a metal crank.

Disabling it is only a matter of some work at breaking the crank or axe or whatever. It just depends on whether you want to disable it forever or for a while.

Harvest Moon emerges from behind the bed with caution. "How is it that you came to be captives of the Kobold Small-eyes," she asks of the single unbound captive as she approaches the huddled kobold brood. She leaves that single question to be answered as she approaches the four unmoving fledglings.

"Go." With a small shooshing motion of her hands, Harvest Moon directs the four back into the passageway behind them. "Shoo. You must go." Her voice drops into the soothing tones often adopted to speak with animals in a language that they most assuredly do not understand. "You must find your mothers. Your mothers will protect you. And you will grow to protect them too some day."

She then looks up and over the heads of the fledglings, into the passageway to see whether there is a way deeper into further Small-eyes lands, or, whether the passageway does little more than connect with the hidden rock door as she suspects it might.

Harvest, (in a senior moment), asks the captives how they got to be captured. The one freed first bursts out in many thanks to Brom and while Brom cuts the other loose, the first one goes on to explain how he had arose early, just at daybreak, to get some work done before the heat set in when these horrible spider-humanoid things appeared as if straight from the ground and wrapped him up in webs before he could shout out a warning.

The other, a young teenager, was too shaken to say much but nodd the entire time during the story.

Then Harvest tries to usher the kobold younglings out of the way, saying something about finding their mothers, oblivious that she and her friends just slaughtered them, and their fathers.

However they do get out of the way, staying in a huddled group, but end up on the pile of skins. A woman with a loaded crossbow stands in their way and they are not about to get close to her.

Harvest notices that the 'wall' that the younglings had been huddled against, seems a bit 'askew'. There is a crack from top to bottom of the back corner on her right hand side.

Lemick continues working on the crank shaft that sets the axe trap. To completely destroy it for good he would need to know something about traps and how they work (Skill check) but to disable it for the immediate future is not a problem.

Gerox finishes rifling through the kobold corpses and the two cowarding ones and gathers up their valuables, unaware that soon he will be having to explain to four kobold younglings that he and his friends just made them orphans in the Underdark and he just stole all their money.

Peza watches intently for any foul play, either from the younglings or from the vanished spellcaster.

Barratore ponders the meaning of life and how close he came to watching his life replay before his eyes.

Bralin heads back out into the corridor leading to the guard room. Reaching the corner he spies (despite the N1) Crag standing in the door way leading into the guardroom, bloody axe in hand, a kobold bleeding out at his feet. The kobold looks familiar, kinda witch-doctory in a way.

"And so, the Spiderkin then gave you up into the care of the Small-eye kobolds?" Harvest Moon asks the captives. "That is very interesting. It is especially interesting after what the Black Spiderkin Drys has said. In what way did the Small-eye kobolds and the Spiderkin work together," she further asks. "Did one seem to rule over the other? Did they speak with each other?"

Engaged in her conversation with the captives, Harvest Moon only listens casually to the crack at the door before pushing it open.

It then dawns on Lemick that tables shouldn't be this far down. Surely the kobolds didn't carry these tables the mile they had walked. He examines the tables to determine their age, surely they are not kobold sized tables -- he looks for any identifying marks such as a carpenter brand.

Harvest continues to drill the captives for information, particularly the relationship of the spider-taurs and the kobolds.

Then pushes on the back wall of the nook and the 'solid' stone section swivels away from her revealing a short corridor straight ahead and a small nook to her right. Looks like the small nook has a decent sized round hole in the floor. (See Map).

Peza does not trust the younglings. Who knows what they may try to do? She keeps her crossbow trained on them.

Lemick takes the little metal crank and works on it to make it unusable to reset the axe into the ceiling. After some work he manages to bend it such to make it impossible to turn.
That, however, could possibly be fixed, in time, so he asks Barratore for help with the axe itself.

Barratore makes his time useful by chopping at the axe haft and it soon is sundered, leaving a small shattered piece of the pole sticking out of the ceiling.

Bralin is pleased to see the dead spellcaster at Crag's feet. With the battle now over for a short while, he begins to get back to 'normal'.

Brom is ready to leave and reluctant to leave the youngling kobolds behind, suggesting to hand them over to the Fixers.

Gerox puts away the loot to count later and voices his desire for a coozy tavern.

The adult captive relates what he knows, as best he can. They were brought straight to the kobolds and dumped into a room with tables. He knows nothing of a black spiderkin but there was a third captive that was brought to the kobolds. The kobold chief took him past the secret door that Harvest just opened. He heard some horrible scraming that seemed to echo and 'fade away', and they haven't seen him since.

It is into this hole that the Small-eye kobold magicker must have escaped. Harvest Moon gestures to the Small-eye younglings. "Go," she says, and again she gestures them past her to the hole. "They will find their kin or learn to live on their own, Brom. Or they will die."

Somewhere in the dark lands beyond the hole, the Small-eyes and the Spiderkin must have an alliance. What must such a land be like? The Small-eyes must have other rooms nearby as well, beyond the hole. So many Small-eyes could not live in this many rooms. She wonders which one of the Small-eyes slept in the bed? Which were the mothers and fathers of these younglings? And how is it that they though it safe enough to keep their younglings here, upon the periphery of their lands? Perhaps their lands are like the Contested Kingdoms. Perhaps there is no safe place. Perhaps it would be best to slay the younglings, for their own sake as well as the sake of Rum.

"Go," she says, and gestures again. After the Small-eye younglings leave, Harvest Moon looks down into the hole to see what she might. Is there a ladder to climb? A rope? Hand holds? Natural rock? How far does the hole extend? All such things might speak of how the Small-eyes and the Spiderkin lived in this place and how often they came and went.

"I think you are right Gerox Shale. But I will first search these rooms for hidden things and useful items."

It is a thing that she had half suspected. The hole must be another trap. Or, perhaps, the privy. Though the smell would have given that away. And would it have been concealed behind a hidden door?

Harvest Moon raises her hands to belay her last gesture. Instead, she seats herself upon the bed next to the younglings. To each in turn, she extends a hand. With her hand she gently touches one of theirs. Then she indicates that they should follow her.

"You are right, Brom," she says, rising from the bed. "We must take them with us. There is no way back to their lands from here. Their lands, and their way into this place must be in the direction that Sculley and his people went. Though, how so many Small-eyes and so many Spiderkin lived in so few rooms, I do not know. And why they have so many tables but only one bed." Harvest Moon shakes her head.

"I will scavenge the rooms. Please go ahead of me. I ... We will be along," she says. Then, with the Small-eyes younglings trailing behind her, Harvest Moon searches the rooms for hidden things and useful items.

""Go," she says, and gestures again. After the Small-eye younglings leave, Harvest Moon looks down into the hole to see what she might. Is there a ladder to climb? A rope? Hand holds? Natural rock? How far does the hole extend? "

CO-DM JonathanT - cleaning out the Kobold Lair

Harvest first indicates to the kobold younglings to go out the secret door and down the newly found hole. This terrifies the kobolds so that she changes her mind.
Perhaps using something from her childhood when she was afraid, Harvest sits next to the four younglings and gently touches each one, trying to reassure them that they are not in danger from the her.
Harvest then proceeds to check ransack the room. Not a difficult task as there's not much to ransack. The pile of hides do hide something though.
- A sack, tied shut with a piece of cloth (ribbon) with runes etched into the fabric. There is the 'clink' of what sounds like pebbles on glass when she picks it up. It is not light, but not heavy.
- A light crossbow
- A quiver with 15 bolts

However, while she is doing this, the adult captive asks, rather vehemently, what are they doing about going after the kobold chief and his shaman adviser! Surely the party isn't going to just let them slip away!

Lemick and Barratore have successfully dealt a crippling blow to the axe trap. The axe head itself is in good (although bloody) shape and can be united with a haft and put back to use.
Lemick looks down the hallway to the chief's room wondering what's going on.

Gerox starts back, his mind only on a mug of ale. The ones that come in pints. He meets up with Bralin and Crag and also sees the dead shaman at Crag's feet.

Barratore bellows down the hall to the chief's room, asking if they are leaving yet.

Brom certainly would rather the Fixers deal with the kobold younglings. Brain washed or slaves, it's better than encountering them down here again.

Peza, ever so vigilant over her friend, catches, out of the corner of her eyes, a shadowy flicker come from the hole. But it was ever so quick and 'shadowy', it could have been just the play of light from the Dancing Lights.

"Otherwise, come to the room of tables. Perhaps you can tell us which of the fallen this Chieftain is."

Harvest seems pleased by some loot she found. Her response to the villager's query is an inquiry of her own. Focused on the task of herding the younglings, she doesn't see what Peza sees, but sees Peza's expression, which in turn, alarms her.

Brom is ready to leave. Mostly, to make sure the newly rescued villagers are safe.

Gerox starts making his way out and takes his lights with him. Whoever stays, stays in the dark.

Barratore 'grbs' (Minotaurian for Grab) up the two captured kobolds and heads out too, directing Lemick to take the axe blade with him.

Bralin, now coherent, speaks for the first time since the battle began, asking if the return to the surface is eminent.

The kobold younglings are glad to get away from the open secret door and shuffle past Peza, who keeps
her eyes on the secret door opening.

The villager, for his part, helps the teenager up, and answer's Harvest's questions to him. "You won't find the chief among the dead back there," he points to the dinning room. "The sorcerer and chief ran out through that secret door. Why you didly-dally here while the two get away I don't know." He seems more puzzled than angry, clearly glad of his rescue. In turn he warns Harvest, pointing at the bag of loot, "I'd be very careful with that. The sorcerer treated it gingerly and uttered what sounded like magic words before he took that ribbon off.

Helping the teenager, the villager starts out behind the younglings and Harvest.

Bralin and Crag are left in the dark as Gerox goes back to the chief's bedroom. Not that the two dwarfs notice the dark all that much. However, now that Bralin has returned to 'normal', Crag can explain to his buddy what happened and not waste his breath.

Crag explains that while he waited and guarded the rear, two kobolds came charging out from that cubby hole with the secret door. He recognized the spell caster but not the other. They both rushed him but the other seemed to be running awful fast for a kobold, twice as fast as a matter of fact. He only had the chance to swing at one and he chose the spell caster as it was slower Crag had a grudge against it.

The other one had a patchwork cape of furs and a gold circlet on its head. He normally would have chased after it, but Mr. Speedy was just too fast.

Meanwhile, back in the other rooms, Harvest and Brom move the kobold throne into the narrow passageway and Gerox returns with his waltzing lights. The adult villager takes up a kobold spear and herds the four younglings into the dining room where they see the carnage and start to whimper and quiver.

Barratore drops his two captive kobolds and Lemick keeps guard, however he now has four babbling younglings to boot. All the dead kobolds and bloody gore does not help the fragil psyche of the teenage villager and he barfs in a puddle of kobold blood, which does not help much.

Peza, Harvest, and Brom watch the dark 5' hole with intense interest and concern. Was the kobold spell caster and the chief hiding there for one last 'Hurrah'? Only Crag and Bralin know about the fate of the two. As far as the others are concerned, danger is still right there in front of them and very real.

What do they do? Do they dare get close enough to peek down the hole to see where it leads? Do they try to explore past the hole to see where the corridor leads?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Perception checks do not reveal anything. That could be a good thing.

Act III, Scene IV: Set in tunnels beneath the new town, the intrepid adventurers think they are ready to go home. Forsooth they thought they had defeated all enemies. Yet the Fat Lady hadeth not sungeth yet-ith.

Harvest shoves the kobold throne into the mysterious hole. Was she expecting to hear someting? Like a Splat or Splash of the chair hitting the sesspool, or the distant echo of the crash as it hits bottom, somewhere. But instead she hears a THUDD and then an angry screech. The chair comes flying back up the hole, right at Harvest!

Harvest, make a Ref check DC10 to dodge the chair. Success she knocks the chair aside to C8, fail and take 1 point damage, chair still lands on C8.

Emerging from the dark hole is the most hiddeous creature out of you nightmares. A head, somewhat human, at least the eyes are human with a human forehead and cheecks, pokes out of the hole. It's mouth is a set of insect mandibles. The head is attached to a short, thick, neck that is melded into a chittinous segment of a CENTIPEEEEEED!
"Food! Fresh Food!" it screeches.

Peza, steady as she goes, is ready. She gets a shot at the 'thing', at not risk of AoO (Readied Action, creature is just popping out of hole).

Round 1 starts with the Party, (after Peza's Readied Action), Harvest and Peza get their turn, then the, well, whatever it is, gets to go.

The two villagers are encouraged by Lemick to go ahead and lead the kobolds out of the mess, but there is no light outside the dinning room.

The others wait for the word from the trio in the chief's bedroom.

Only the top two or three segments extend above the hole, how much of it extends down the hole is only a guess.

OoC Question: Each monster we defeat gets us more XP, right? Were we to skip a monster and simply go home, that would get us less, right? Or do you just say to heck with it and give us XP just to keep on schedule?

Also, before I post, I need to know, does the Kobolpede have hands? By your description, I would say no. But the picture does appear to have rudimentary hands. Basically, I'd like to know whether this creature would appear to have the ability to open a door once closed? Especially a door that must be pulled inward as it appears that the door at B8 would have to be.

DM Ans: your are correct, no hands. However, its numerous centipede legs have hooks, as any centipede leg seen under the microscope, to climb walls and such, and as a semi-intelligent creature, opening a door may be a challange, but not an impossibility.

"Bralin, we should be leaving, but those crazy women are going to get someone killed. I've got the wand so need to head back to them, unless you want to? The other should bring these folks to the first room, ready to exit. [b] Depending on Bralin's response, Lemick returns toward Barratore or passes the wand off to Bralin.

CO-DM JonathanT - Hey! Who left this hole here? Someone could fall in!
Friday July 20th, 2012 9:30:39 PM

DM Ans: From my point of view, there are xps to gain even if a monster has not been encountered, either by luck or fate. However, if the monster in question is important to the story, then I'd say no xps. Typically an encounter is desigened with a set XP value first. That XP value is your Cash to buy the monsters (as each monster has an XP value) and once you run out of that Cash, your encounter is set.

Having said that, there are sometimes Story XPs as well as Monster XPs. If you miss out on some important part of the story, don't accomplish some quest, don't perform all or most of a task, then the Story XP value is diminished.

Having said that much more, I'm not the writer of these modules. It will be up to the Designer to make the decision on the XPs to be given out.

To my knowledge, unike the old table top games where we rolled for Wandering Monsters (1 on 1d6 indicating an encounter) every half hour or hour of Game Time, that's not the norm here. Good thing too, because it already takes a long time to get through the real stuff, who wants to kill a week or two on some unimportant wandering unfortunate creature?

DM Note #2: it is far more important to visualize the monster by the description I give and not by the random icon I find to represent it. I try to find icons that come somewhat close to the 'thing', if possible, but my verbal description is the one to go by.

Bralin wonders what's keeping the party from going home to party and goes back down the hall to check on them.

Brom, frustraded that the women are in the way tells them to move out of the way.

Alerted to a new danger, Lemick issues suggestions to fall back to the entry guardroom so they can escape to the surface if necessary. Won't this ever end?

Gerox calls out to the two women and Brom to try to lure whatever it is back towards the larger room so they all can chip in.

Barratore heeds Lemick's suggestion and with the help of the villager, despite the darkness, with Crag's help, they make it to the outer guardroom.

Harvest slams the secret door shut in Peza's face, flips over the kobold throne and turns to mock the horrid centi-taur, hoping to lure it out and chase her. While some converge back to the kobold dining room, others gather in the kobold front guardroom.

Harvest, barely managing to fight off the poison effects of the centi-taur, decides to run, or rather strategically withdraw, as a bard would sing.

However her flight may be short. Although she manages to evade the mandibles snaping at her as she runs (Withdraw), as she runs through E9, she suddenly feels the floor drop out from under her!

Unlike the pit trap at the entrance, this floor splits in half, the two halves folding down, dropping the Stepper into a shallow pit, only 5' deep. However, lining the bottom of the pit are a jumble of icky sharp wooden spikes that just happen to have their pointy ends sticking up.

Att1 hit AC20, dmg 3
Att2 hit AC14
Att3 hit AC23, dmg 2

DM Note: you may ask why not be given a chance to maybe see it and avoid it, but your Withdraw action did not include a Perception roll to see a well hidden trap. Nor would a Perception roll to find a trap while Withdrawing at full speed seem to be possible.

As Harvest falls into the puji pit trap, (DM OOC: you may make whatever screaming sounds you find appropriate), that breaks her flight (End of Move 1). But the nimble monk may not be food to the centi-taur yet. (DM OOC: a successful Acrobatics check DC15 (Mode A) will get her out of the pit and to F9 for Move 2. An Acrobatics check DC20 (Mode B) will get her out and Move 2 (-1 square for climbing out) but at risk of further punji injury (1 more attack) due to hastilly jumping out of the 5' deep pit. Choose mode A or B first before making your Acro check.
Mode A or B:
Fail DC15 = Harvest remains in pit but not prone.
Mode B:
Fail DC20 (but >= 15) = Harvest manages to get out of pit at F9.

Is Harvest the gambling type? Is she gonna go for broke and try the DC20, or play it safer and choose the DC15?

Centi-taur is right on Harvest's heels, is it going to get another bite of Harvest or is she going to slip out of its mandible's reach?

We all await anxiously on Harvest's roll.

DM OOC: Harvest, I was thinking you had chosen Mode B. Mode A does stop you at F9.

OoC: I thought both modes stopped at F9. Too late now.

DM: Sorry about that. I wanted to give you a chance to get all the way out, with some risk, or get out to next square with no risk of pricking yourself again. By the Book, getting up and climbing out would be two extra moves, but it is only 5' deep so I treated it more like Difficult Terrain. Worked out ok though.

Harvest choosing the safest option to get out of the pit finds herself confronting the centi-taur again and suffering another bite. Her inner strength is powerful and she fights off the poison effects again.

This time, she knows her way, though, as she'd been to the corner she sees now. With a mad dash she careens around the corner and past everyone waiting for her return. No need to explain to them anything, the looks on her face and the bloody gashes tell everything.

The centi-taur charges after her hissing something in Draconic. It's long body flowing around the corners, its many legs a mesmerizing blur, its segments undulating as it goes.

However its prey shoots past a short metal-clad food parcel that doesn't flee from it. Bralin sees its eyes squint a little, some intelligence, but yet not quite sane, behind that look. It then lunges at Bralin. Food is food, parts is parts. This one is just a mere bettle. Just crack that shell and suck the inners out and go for the next...

Attack Bralin, hit AC23, dmg 8 + poison

Barratore lights his Lantern, and begins moving down the tight passages with the human in tow. the sound of combat fast approaching behind them should keep the Rum folk motivated and he feels no need to point out the obvious to them

Where have the others gone? Harvest Moon peers around the corner and into the Room of Tables. There is no one there. Instead they are all crowded into the passageway. Was it not Gerox Shale's plan to meet the Centipedekin in an open space so that they might all attack it?

And where are the others? Barratore Steelwind? Gerox Shale himself? The Small-eye Younglings? The two humans from Rum?

Harvest Moon rushes back up the passageway, passing Brom, passing Peza, passing Lemick 4-Leaf Sted, passing Bralin the Stonesinger, vaulting past the mandibles of the Centipedekin, past Crag Hammerfist. Here they are! She rushes past into a corner, panting hard.

They are leaving. Yes, that would be best. Harvest Moon puts hands on knees, sparing a moment to catch her breath.

[Fort 19]

Bralin takes the blow with a grunt, but his dwarven blood proves too much for the creature's poison.

Shifting his shield a bit for more protection, he strikes. The potion he drank moments before slows time, and Bralin knows exactly where to put his blade. The axe head slams into the foe with a THUNK.

The dwarf steps to the side. Bleeding heavily, he maintains his post as rear guard.

Peza's bolt pierces the creature's chittinous shell but it is Bralin's divinely aimed blow with his axe that finishes it off.

Barratore starts herding the kobolds out of the underground caves with the help of the townsman.

Harvest manages to outdo herself as she nimbly weaves her way past her friends and the horrid creature, ending up in the guard room.

Brom yells to get out of his way and they do but the critter twitches one last time.

It could be that the WLA'ers finally finished clearing out the complex, but no fat lady steps out of the shadows to sing an aria finnalle so who knows?

DM OOC: If you are done here, we can fast forward to the sunlight. If you want to hang around down here some more, let me know.

Is it really over? Have they truly at last discovered all of the secrets of this place and defeated all of its inhabitants? Despite her great wounds and possibly even greater weariness, Harvest Moon feels a sense of elation.

"I will return shortly," announces the small half-elfish girl before she races off to retrace the circle of passages, rooms, and secret ways within which the many Small-eyes had lived. She scavenges the place one last time for good worth taking back with them. And, in the end, regardless of whatever she might have found, Harvest Moon returns with the Great Chair.
