Taggart Oathbreaker 20/15/16 - 27/32 - CMD 20
Tuesday August 7th, 2012 11:17:07 AM

Taggart moves against the wall, his bow ready to lash out at the first opponent he sees.

--------------------

Start at J4, ready action to attack any enemies that come into view.

Devlin -- 27/16/17 -- CMD 19 -- HP 28/31  d20+16=26 ;
Tuesday August 7th, 2012 9:42:02 PM

A snarl crosses Devlin's face at the sound of Douglas' voice. I knew we should have killed the darkbloods when we had the chance back at the bridge. He thinks as he takes in the surroundings. No way out, they are prepared for us. They know we want the prisoners. This stinks of a trap. He looks at Bruagh the paladin's rage simmering just below the surface. Easy lad, this has the stink of a trap all about it. He whispers.

Devlin checks his weapons and get his last extract ready.

Actions:
Stealth = 26
Drink shield extract if mutagen has worn off.

Sarnak shrugs. "No Clue." He and Kyachi just stay back out of sight for now, wanting the enemy to come to him this time instead of rushing in and getting targeted first.

An old foe returns - DM RobC
Wednesday August 8th, 2012 1:36:47 AM

Newer members of the party look to each other for insight - who is this person speaking to Bruagh? Dernock, Sarnak and Kyachi exchange shrugs, as none have heard of this foe before.

Devlin recognises the voice immediately and curses letting that darkblood live. Devlin urges caution, wary that this may well be a trap. (5 mins have passed since the barracks fight, so you should have 5ish minutes left on your mutagen)

Humphrey's eye twitches as a surprised expression crosses his face for the briefest of moments as Bruagh speaks. The evil grin soon reappears however.

"Your hear that love? The paladin doesn't want to save you." Humphrey puts his face next to the crying womans as he speaks, still eyeing Bruagh "Now, I said for you and your little gang to come in here where I could see you but you seem to be having trouble hearing. Private Tyranus- " D2 steps forward, crossbow in hand.

" - count to three and if the grukneks* aren't in here then shoot a prisoner from Cell C" Humphrey continues. D2 takes aim at a nearby cell as the dwarves within huddle together. The women try to shield the children, as the men bravely try and shield the women. Those in other cells start to do the same. Many eyes are on the duergar, but just as many are on Bruagh.

Humphrey resumes his speech "Let me put it this way. I am calling you and yours cowards. I am saying that dwarves are a disease to be removed from the Wold. Oh I'm sure you'd like to prove me wrong. So how about it? You and I decide this. One on one so that I might have the pleasure of decorating my sword with your blood. Of course if you say no, you can watch as we kill every last dwarf in here"

Taggart places a hand on his chest, and the eyes behind his mask grow wide as feathers grow from the sides of his head. He steps around the corner, his bow still armed, but pointed at the ground. He peers around the room, taking everything in, his eyes resting on Humphrey. He attempts to gauge the Duergar's intentions as he stands silently at the entrance.

Devlin shakes his head to clear it of distracting thoughts. He glances at the inquisitive looks of the party and mouths Bad guys before giving them a wink. He drinks his last elixir, a shimmering shield glowing around him before winking out.

As Bruagh walks forward to meet Humphrey the rouge steps around the corner of the doorway his crossbows trained on the darkbloods opposite him. Imagine bumping inta you here in this den of filth Humphrey, where do you have Lila hidden? Tell her ta come on out and say hi. I've so missed hearing her shrewish voice. He says with a chuckle. Sam knowing full well Bruagh's intentions, reaches out to heal the paladin.

Bruagh accepts Humphrey's challenge, and steps forward into the room

Dernock simply shakes his head at the performance this particular dark-blood is making. Honestly, there are much more efficient ways of dispatching with ones enemies.

Taggart and Devlin flank Bruagh into the room. Bow and crossbow at the ready.

Devlin vividly recalls his last encounter with this particular dark-blood, and attempts to goad a certain crossbowess from hiding.

If she is hiding she must be good, as Taggart cannot see any duergar hiding anywhere in the room. As far as motives go, everything Humphrey has said so far seems to be the truth. Well, the truth to him at least. Whatever their background it is clear he bears a grudge specifically targeted at Bruagh.

Shonti and Shinto hold fast

@Sarnak: It was unclear what you meant by "following Bruagh's lead". I'm assuming you meant you were holding your action and waiting for a signal or something. Please let me know if you meant you were literally following him into the room

==========

Humphrey smiles as the party show themselves, yet maintains his grip on the captive woman.

"Lila made an impression on you did she?" he says addressing Devlin now "I'm afraid she is tending to more important things than the execution of slaves".

Humphrey then pauses for a moment as he surveys the group. "Your numbers seem to be shrinking paladin? Where is the wreguk* that was with you last time? I was looking forward to taking her. Nevermind. This one shall have to do." with that he pulls his sword across the womans neck. Clutching at her throat she drops to the floor.

"Kill the prisoners!"Humphrey calls as he adopts a combat stance "Anyone who touches this one will answer to my blade. HE is mine"

Humphrey steps forward bringing his greatsword down atop Bruagh. The paladin is ready through, and parries it with his axe (Swift action to declare Bruagh the target of Humphrey's Smite Good. Attack vs AC26: 12 = Miss) "Give in dwarf. Your days are at an end" the dark-blood says through gritted teeth, his sword pressed firmly against Bruagh's axe.

The remaining duergar move to attack the prisoners in their cells. D1, D2 and D3 fire their crossbows into the cells on the left. D4, D5 and D6 fire into the cells on the right. Dwarven men clutch at the arrows that strike their bodies. The women are screaming as some men drop to a knee.

The snake creature slowly moves forward, a purple symbol on its forehead pulsing.

DM:

*wreguk: duergar slang for a prostitute

We haven't had a situation where both the party and enemy were ready to attack each other. Since we don't roll for initiative, the fairest way I can work out who gets to act first is to roll a D100.
01 - 50 = Party go first
51 - 100 = Duergar go first.
...
Roll = 75. Duergar go first.

Though both Taggart and Devlin note that they have bows ready and loaded, both took standard actions in the last "round" so could not have a readied action to shoot.

Once Taggart yells for reinforcements, Shinto and Shonti spring into action.

With his icy axe and sturdy shield at the ready, Shinto sprints to I7.

Shonti takes a sheltered position at J6 and prepares to cast a devastating spell (once I figure out what that spell is) that will help the group next round.

Sam calls his brothers to arms, inspiring them to greatness.

Devlin lines up his crossbow and lodges a bolt in the left arm of D2. The duergar grunts and tears the bolt from his arm, practically roaring at Devlin

Taggart fires two arrows in quick succession, both arrows lodging in the chest of his target, D6.

Bruagh slips his axe away from Humphrey's sword, and deftly catches the duergar above the hip. A nasty gash instantly forms as skin is teared away. It no doubt must have caused Humphrey great pain, but he does his best to conceal it.

Sarnak and Kyachi enter the room, blocking any chance of escape for the duergar.

Shonti and Shinto look to be planning something, and Dernock charges into the room to see what is going on.

==========

Humphrey strikes back with a thurst that pierces Bruagh's shoulder (Attack vs AC28: 28 = Hit. Bruagh takes 13dmg + 3 unholy dmg. And the DM rolling a total of 8 from 4D6 means the dice like you) "Aww, did I hurt your feelings? Did someone already kill the wreguk? Nevermind, you'll be with her soon"

"Casters!" cries one of the duergar on spying Sarnak, Sam and Shonti. Attention seems to shift from the dwarves in the cells.

D6 extends his arm towards Taggrt, casting a spell in retaliation for the arrows the dwarf would dare fire at him. A loud noise erupts from next to Taggart (Cast Sound Burst at G8. Devlin, Shinto, Taggart, Sarnack and Kyachi all take 2pts sonic damage and must make a Fort save vs DC17 or be stunned next round)

D1 points his hand in Sam's direction and casts a spell. But he's not targetting Sam - he's targetting the ground in front of Sam. (Cast Silence at H8. All space within 20ft is covered by a Silence spell. No verbal spells can be cast within that area)

A previously unseen duergar reveals himself and points his finger at Kyachi (Drop invisibility. Cast Daze Monster. Kyachi must make a will save vs DC18 or be dazed next round). Whoever this duergar is, he bears the same symbol on his forehead that the snake does.

The snake moves with surprising speed towards Sarnak and lashes out, tripping him (CMB to beat Sarnak's CMD of 17: 17 = Success. Sarnak is knocked prone)

D2 aims his crossbow at Durnock, and though very close range, the bolt misses its target.
D3 aims his at Devlin, and likewise misses.
D4 and D5 fire at Taggart, but only one bolt strikes true (Attack vs AC20: 8=Nat1, 26=Possible Crit, 19=No crit. Taggart takes 2dmg)

Humphrey has trouble wielding his greatsword in such close proximity, but Bruagh is used to fighting in tight spaces. Seeing the damage his previous blow did, Bruagh strikes Humphrey with a sharp horizontal blow to the same place on the abdomen. Humprehy drops to his knees and blood spews from his mouth. "You... you think you have won?" he whispers as he slumps to the floor smiling.

Sam's performance continues and with confidence he fires his crossbow at one of the duergar. Unfortunately the wall at the back of the room bears the brunt of the crossbow bolt. (K10 was still in range of the silence spell, so I've moved you to L10 instead. Please let me know if that was not your intention)

Dernock decides the casters are the way to go. They usually wear less armor that could prevent a perfectly good axe strike. Wary of getting attacked by the nearby fighter, Dernock goes into a kind of hap-hazard roll. Fortunately there is little the duergar can do, his crossbow would make a flimsy melee weapon at best. Standing, Dernock introduces the enemy caster to his axe with a solid hit. (Pretty sure you can't charge if an acrobatics roll is used during your movement. Without the charge bonus you still make contact however)

Taggart sidesteps and tries to line up the nearest duergar. One arrow strikes true, the duergar shaking for a moment as the shock runs through his body.

Kyachi bears her teeth - how dare something attack her master! She steps forward and attacks Her claws fail to penetrate the scales of the monster yet her teeth do draw blood.

Sarnak goes to regain his footing, yet is knocked back down again by the snake (Standing up provokes an AoO. Sarnak's CMD vs Trip= 21. Snake rolls 26. Sarnak is kept down but can still have total defence while prone) "Sssssssstay down!" the snake hisses.

Shinto is none too pleased with the current situation, but figures the best thing to do would be to even the numbers up a bit. He charges in to battle. The snake however sees him coming, and before he knows it Shinto is lying on his back on the ground (Snake has 10ft reach so gets an AoO. Shinto's CMD vs Trip = 25 - possibly 27 with improved trip I think? Snake rolls 29. Shinto is prone regardless)

Shonti creates a nice ball of fire directly underneath the snake, but this monster just doesn't quit. The snake curls its body in a circle, avoiding the flaming ball (I think the DC for the save is 16? Reflex Save for the snake = 17. Pass. Snake takes no damage. Also, L7 is within the silenced area so have moved you to M7 instead.)

Devlin moves to flank but as he draws near, the snake whips its tail around, causing Devlin to lose his footing as well (Devlin's CMD vs Trip = 22. Snake rolls 26. Devlin is prone) Highlight to display spoiler: {Sarnak's post just before yours says Kyachi is moving to E8. In order for Devlin to flank the snake, you need to move to E6, which provokes an AoO from a foe with 10ft reach}

D2 approachs Dernock from behind, dropping his crossbow and drawing a warhammer. Dernock sees the warhammer coming and deftly dodges it (Attack vs AC20: 13 + 2 flanking = 15 = Miss)

D1 steps back from Dernock's assault and begins gesturing towards the dwarves in the nearby cell. "Let's see what is more important to you". A shape begins to form from the ground within the cell - a small earth elemental!

D6 follows suit, calling an earth elemental into the cell on the other side of the room.

D4 drops his crossbow, draws a crossbow and moves to bring it down on the prone Sarnak (Prone and Full Defense cancel each other out. Attack vs AC27: 13 + 2 flanking = 15 = Miss)

D5 drops his crossbow, and has similar success to his allies with the warhammer. He aims for Bruagh but misses badly (Attack vs AC26: 14 = Miss)

Snake, meanwhile, looks about at the prone foes around him. All are on the ground except for one. The snake retaliates against Kyachi (Bite vs AC27: 28 + 2 Flanking = Nat 20 and possible crit. Nat1 to confirm crit. Tail Slap vs AC27: 10 = Miss. Free trip as part of bite attack vs CMD 20: 23 = Success. Kyachi takes 7pts damage and is knocked prone). It slithers closert to Sarnak.

D3 drops his crossbow and draws a warhammer. He moves to attack Kyachi from behind, but misses (Attack vs AC27: 18 + 2 flanking = 20 = Miss)

D9 sneers at the dwarves before him and points a finger at Dernock (Dernock must make a will save vs DC18 or be dazed next round)

The Snake & Trips
Finally the DM gets some good rolls! Even if Bruagh did kill my Humphrey in only 2 rounds :(
In terms of the tripping:
The snake has the Combat Reflexes feat, meaning it can make multiple AoOs per round. I won't say exactly how many though ;)
It does not have Improved Trip so it does provoke an AoO from Sarnak, Devlin, and Shinto in that order. However, as it has 10ft reach, that is where the AoO gets resolved. As none of you have a 10ft reach, I don't believe you get to make your AoO against the trip.

"Ghost Rolls"
I'm noticing you guys making some rolls seemingly for nothing. If you make a roll, that roll needs to be used. Otherwise it looks like you've decided to make an action, saw that it wouldn't work so changed your mind. I'm not saying that's what you've done, just saying that's how it looks. Going forwards, if you make a roll that you haven't explained then I'll attribute the roll to something which may alter the results of your actions. The explanation could be as simple as "Had planned to take xxx action, but seeing as I can't because of xyz I've changed my mind" or "Oops, wrong button". Thanks for your cooperaton on this one guys.

"Having trouble concentrating. Too many things bouncing around in my head. I need to focus!"

He then sharpens his mind and remembers the good that came form his failure. The bolt infused with holy energy flies towards the distant enemy. (hero point reroll= 21 to hit. 8 damage and 8 holy damage. My hero points last 1 week at best...)

OOC: Also, Kyachi is a quadruped, meaning because she has 2 extra legs the DC to trip her is 4 higher, so the trip failed.

Kyachi growled at taking the bite from the snake, as she rolled with the blow ending up at the snake's back. She lashed out quickly, but was still disbalanced from the attack and only managed to strike once with her claws.

Sarnak, not wanting to become that much more of a target by staying grounded, once again attempted to stand, defending himself as much as possible as he came back up

Actions:

Claw: A:28 D: 12
Sarnak:

DM RobC: Total Defence gives you a+4 dodge bonus to AC. It does not provide any bonus to CMD. And yep, Kyachi is indeed a quadruped. Thankyou for correcting me on that one. Kyachi keeps all 4 feet firmly on the ground - except for the ones she then swings :)

Taggart is the first to react against the earth elementals threatening his brethren. He fires two arrows - the first catches on the cage bars, but the second strikes true.

Shinto goes to regain his footing and cops a bite from the snake in doing so (AoO from standing up vs AC16: 21 = Hit. Shinto takes 11 damage!). Now flanking the snake, Shinto swings he axe down, but misses the snake's tail and strikes the floor.

Sam's guided arrow strikes solidly in the duergar fighter in front of him(You weren't clear with which "distant enemy" you were referring, so I'm going with D4 in that it is closest with clear line of sight)

Kyachi is in a flurry, but does drag a claw across the snake's scales

Sarnak goes to regain his footing as the snake moves to bite him as well, but the monsters fangs miss its target this time (AoO from standing up vs AC27: 18 + 2 flanking = 20 = Miss.) The fighter behind Sarnak has similar success (AoO from standing up vs AC27: 13 + 2 flanking = 15 = Miss)

Dernock tries to collect his thoughts, as the spell cast on him takes hold.

Devlin reloads his crossbows, provoking another attack from the snake which sinks its teeth in (AoO from reloading vs AC23: 26 = Hit Devlin takes 11pts dmg). Calling for the dwarves in the cells to drop, Devlin takes careful aim and somehow does manage to indeed strike his intended target

Bruagh feels a sense of satisfaction in cleansing the Wold of Humphrey's presence, but is unable to follow up against a lowly warrior. The paladin's axe blocked by the fighters warhammer.

==========

"What? You are just going to stand there and watch them die?" D1 taunts Dernock. He appears to cast a spell, but you don't notice any obvious effects.

D6 appears to cast a spell as well.

D2 swings at Dernock and seems surprised to actually make contact (Attack vs AC20: 23 = Hit?!? Should this duergar get a medal for being the first to actually hit you guys? Dernock takes 6dmg).

D3 apparently has similar success against the eidolon Kyachi (Attack vs AC27: 27 + 2 flanking = 29 = Hit. Kyachi takes 6dmg)

D4 swings his warhammer at the caster in front of him - Sarnak - but misses (Attack vs AC27: 17 + 2 flanking = 19 = Miss)

D5 fights back at Bruagh but the warhammer strike is parried away by Bruagh axe (Attack vs AC26: 22 = Miss)

D9 does not appear to be bothered by the battle going on before him and wants to play with Dernock some more. He points his finger at the dwarf again (Dernock must make a will save vs DC18 or be dazed next round)

The Snake practically smiles at the damage it is doing. It turns its attention to Kyachi, the only one who has hurt it so far. Kyachi dodges the snake's bite, but receives a solid whack across the head from the snake's tail (Bite vs AC27: 18 + 2 flanking = 20 = Miss. Tail Slap vs AC27: 28 = Nat 20. 21 to confirm. Kyachi takes 9dmg)

The earth elementals begin pounding on the dwarven men nearest them. The other dwarves move to the far side of their cages and crouch down.

Sarnak, watching the arrangement of the field, decides that moving to a position where he was in less direct danger would be a smart idea, as he looks to the other side of the Snake and moves to G8 to get away from the duergar beating on him. He still remains defensive, given he couldn't offer much at the moment aside from being a useful distraction.

Kyachi squares her stance, not going to let the Snake evade her again, as she feints with her bite and then delivers one strong strike with a claw against the snake's scales, quickly delivering a second, the second sinking deep into the snake's flesh and leaving a deep wound. The damage she just inflicted far exceeding what she had done previously, as she grins evilly at the snake's obvious discomfort, fairly sure that if he didn't dissipate his summoner might be feeling something unfriendly through his link.

Sizing his target up more clearly now, Bruagh brings his axe down on the collar of the duergar guard.

Devlin fires on the nearest earth elemental, but has trouble spotting it clearly through the pbars and past the other dwarves. His bolt harmlessly hits the wall.

Sam on the other hand, finishes off the duergar in front of him. A crossbow bolt catching the dark blood in the neck. His bodily quickly collapes to the floor with an audible "oof!"

Sarnak circles the snake. He distracts it long enough for Kyachi to swipe it across the back of the head. The snake hisses loudly, and then dissipates into nothingness. Kyachi wheels on the spot, her second claw catches the surprised duergar who had been standing behind her.

Denock steps closer to the caster who previously dazed him, and though the dark-blood deftly dodges Dernock's axe, the shield bash catch him by surprise and draws blood. (Umm.. I think you meant 5ft step to -C4)

Taggart edges closer, but the bars and captive dwarves provide cover for the elemental, making it harder to hit. Both arrows miss their target.

Shinto raises his axe preparing to slice the snake in two, but it disappears before he can land his blow. Looking about, he spies a nearby duergar ready for the attacking. Shinto moves about and hacks into the duergar's side (Since the snake is dead, I'm hoping you won't mind me moving you to attack the next nearest target)

Shonti draws his crossbow from his handy haversack. Without time to load it, he changes tack to instead move the flaming sphere towards his target. (Drawing an item from a handy haversack is a move action, reloading a crossbow is a move action, and moving the flaming sphere is a move action. You can't do all of them this round.) The duergar deftly moves aside as the ball nears him (Ref Save vs DC16: 16 = Pass, just).

D6 meanwhile approaches Taggart to do the same, but barely taps the ranger (Attack vs AC20: 32 = Hit. Taggart takes a whopping 1dmg) The duergar's face drops seeing how little impact his blow made.

D2 steps forward and drops his warhammer down on the helpless Dernock (5ft and deliver Coup-de-grace. Auto crit. Dernock takes another 17dmg if still alive must make a Fort save vs DC27 or die)

D3 is feeling a bit surrounded (and hot). Stepping from the flames, he does his best to swipe at Shinto however the warhammer misses its target (Attack vs AC20: 17 = Miss)

D5 attacks back against Bruagh but the paladin is too hard to hit, the blow glances off Bruagh's armor (Attack vs AC26: 22 = Miss)

D9 scoffs as Dernock hits the ground. With his eidolon gone, D9 walks calmly into the open cell. He points his finger towards the cowering dwarves and summons an elemental to finish them off. D1 moves to guard the door.

Kyachi upon dropping the Snake, looks for her next target. Hearing the scream of Durnock, she looks to the Duergar arranged around him and to the summoner guarded by D1. Thinking the summoner is the best target at the moment, she looks around the field, thinking take a quick strike at D3, and then to D1 and the summoner is her best choice, she moves to -C6, delivering a quick bite to D3 as she passes by. The large portion of the threats to Sarnak were disposed of at the moment, so she had no issues about leaving him to take care of himself.

Sarnak, seeing that the big issues were dealt with, moves to F8, pulling out his healing wand, and dropping a quick tap to Kyachi before she headed off.

As the words echo through the prison, they inspire the group, but almost seem to come from a source that would not be typical of the small gnome. They are filled with rage and vengeance.

Bruagh charges the cleric, ducking as the warhammer from the fighter goes over his head (Provoke AoO. Attack vs AC26: 16 = Miss). On reaching the cleric, Bruagh brings his axe down with fury, splitting the dark-bloods head. The duergar drops to the ground dead. One of the earth elementals disappears.

Shinto likewise finishes off the fighter before him with two swift axe blows. (It took the 2nd blow to kill him).

Devlin is surprised to see one of his comrades fall, but pulls himself together to continue the attack. He fires on the nearest earth elemental, but the blasted bars and dwarves are in the way, preventing a clear shot. Fortunately the bolt deflects harmlessly off one of the bars rather than into one of the dwarven prisoners.

Taggart cockily steps back and fires two arrows at near point-blank range at the deurgar cleric in front of him. The arrows skewer the cleric who collapses to his knees, and then the ground. Another earth elemental disappears.

Sarnak heals his eidolon before sending her into the fray. On reaching the duergar though, Kyachi is disappointed to see her target already dead. She decides the only thing to do is bite at the only other duergar currently in reach. The fighter is surprised by the sudden appearance of Kyachi and is unable to block her bite (I assumed since Bruagh took care of the other duergar that you would be happy to have Kyachi bite anything hostile within reach)

Sam moves in closer and tries to inspire courage in his allies, despite what looks to be Dernock lying in a pool of blood.

Dernock's eyes remain closed. His body lifeless.

The summoner, cornered in the cell, looks to have realised the battle cannot be won. "Wait! Wait!" he yells to Bruagh, holding his hands out "I yield! Spare me my life and I will spare theirs" He nods his head in the direction of the earth elemental currently poised above the prisoners. The elemental pauses and waits.

"Coward!" hisses the nearby fighter (D2). He steps forward to attack Bruagh (Attack vs AC26/27?: 27 = Hit. Bruagh takes 4dmg)

D5 takes a similar approach, ignoring the odds and moving in to fight back against Taggart (Attack vs AC20/21?: 21 = Hit. Taggart takes 7dmg)

With the loss of one - DM RobC
Sunday August 19th, 2012 7:03:05 AM

Duergar bodies lay scattered on the floor as the party quickly overwhelm those that remained. The dark-blood summoner just sighs "Such a waste" he says as he shakes his head.

He smiles as he responds to Sarnak "Die? You know better than that. Our eidolons serve our purposes. Death does not embrace them as it does... us" he nods towards Dernocks lifeless body with a smile "As for killing me before I serve my threat, just remember one of my pets stands watch. You move on me and he strikes. You move on him and he strikes." The duergar grins a cocky grin.

Devlin moves towards the nearest cage. The earth elemental still stands its ground over the cowering prisoners, but is yet to harm any of them.

Shinto tries to taunt the summoner, urging him to fight. The duergar responds by rolling his eyes "I have no doubt you would best me in hand-to-hand combat, and your groups numbers give you an overwhelming advantage. I much prefer the position I stand in now"

Finally, the duergar summoner addresses Bruagh "You must be the leader of this little band" the dark-blood crosses his arms and speaks very matter-o-factly "You shall spare me my life. In return, I will grant them theirs" he gestures once more to the prisoners "Do we have an accord?"

The dwarves in the cells keep a close eye on the proceedings, and those not near the elemental whisper amongst themselves, standing and slowly approaching the cell doors to better see what is going on.

Dernock's body lays in a pool of blood. He face is barely recognisable from the damage done by the warhammer. Bone, teeth, and chucks of flesh appear scattered on his face. No amount of cure potions or laying of hands will bring Dernock back.

====================

The loud noise and voices around him cause Dernock to slowly open his eyes. He is seated in a dark tavern, his head resting on the table. People from various races are laughing and drinking all around. Happy hour?

"Don't pull that one with me, Dernock. Pretending you've passed out won't get you out of buying the next round" comes the familiar voice of Hank "And make it the good stuff this time, eh?". Dernock sees his gnomish friend gesturing with an empty tankard. A pair of half-orcs (a man and a woman) are also seated at the table. They laugh at Hank's observation.

Though his memory is hazy, Dernock remembers the fight with the duergar. After a quick check, Dernock realises he feels completely fine. His clothes are free from blood and signs of battle. They do smell of ale and smoke though.

====================

I really like these guidelines Cayzle posted in the LnB when dealing with defeated enemies. Humphrey - had he yielded - would have fit the scenario of a recurring character, and would have continued to seek revenge against the party.

1) It is not evil to kill an enemy in combat. It is also not evil to leave an enemy for dead.

2) It is not evil to kill some absolutely evil creatures who are beyond redemption, such as undead and demons.

3) It is usually evil and always suspect to kill enemies who are helpless or unconscious or who have asked for quarter.

4) If you defeat an enemy but do not kill them, it is expected and fair to take their goods. This serves as a fair punishment and is just. It also decreases the enemy's capacity for future evil and enhances your ability to do future good.

5) If you defeat an enemy but do not kill them, they will often see the error of their ways or have a change of heart. Even if they do not have a change of heart, they will wisely see that if they could not defeat the heroes with all their gear, they will never be able to do so without. Therefore, defeated enemies cease to present a moral dilemma for players. Defeated foes either reform themselves, are cowed into better behavior, or simply disappear and no longer present any threat to the Wold.

5a) There may be very rare exceptions for recurring enemies and archvillains who may seek revenge even after they plead for mercy. Such cases are atrociously evil and present a very rare situation for epic storytelling.

6) Per the Woldian House Rules for Campaign Traits, Woldian heroes are encouraged to be Brave, Charitable, Clean, Good, Heroic, Noble, and Trustworthy. With these qualities in mind, as DM, I will not penalize a character who is merciful.

Ooc-Great posting Forged! We even posted an extra round this weekend!

Monday August 20th, 2012 1:23:15 AM

Shinto tries to keep his anger in check, and warns the summoner that no matter the others - he will not leave here with an escort. Bruagh backs this, and request the summoner leave his gear behind and then leave Drakesmeade forever. The summoner raises an eyebrow, perhaps surprised that he will be allowed to leave at all. He sighs as the earth elemental dissolves back into the ground (ie: its gone)

Sam kneels by Dernock's side. Shonti, Shinto and Taggart too kneel by Dernock to offer silent prayers. Bruagh takes Dernocks cloak and drapes it over him. Each keeps a firm eye on the enemy summoner still in their midst.

Sarnak speaks with dwarven wisdom to the party - that Dernock died a brave warriors death and for the benefit of others. He remains optimistic that they may see Dernock again, in this life or the next.

With the majority seemingly in favour of allowing his release, the summoner feels comfortable enough to smile to Sarnak and Kyachi. The summoner empties his pockets, and when Bruagh is satisfied he has nothing else left to take gestures for him to leave. The summoner takes a wide berth around those still standing, but keeps an eye on all. He takes large steps over any pools of blood, apparently not wanting to dirty his boots. On reaching the doorway he looks back and opens his mouth to speak, but perhaps wisely changes his mind and instead quickly leaves the room.

Devlin pries open the first cage easily enough, and as the keys are nowhere to be found, a combination of brute strength, manual dexterity, and very sharp weapons has the rest of the cages open. The dwarves slowly start to leave their cages and gather together in the centre of the room, talking and whispering amongst themselves. 4 dwarven men lie dead in their cages having given their lives trying to shield the women from the earth elementals and crossbow bolts. Another 5 are injured and being carried or supported by others.

"Are.. are you here to rescue us?" one man asks Devlin, still unsure what exactly is going on.

The party search the fallen duergar and gather anything of use into a pile. Fair quality weapons and armor (nothing noteworthy) and four small vials of a reddish liquid. Humphrey's sword though causes pain to Devlin as he touches it to place it in the pile.

Shonti looks to Shinto, thinking We're all going to die if we don't take a few hours to recover from these past battles. He nods at his brother, then turns around and quickly catches up to the rest leaving the room. I don't know how much longer any of us can survive without a rest.. I'm running short on spells, and our healers have no life left to give to the wounded... I know now is probably not the best time to set up camp, or to catch any kind of sleep for that matter, but it is greatly needed if we wish to help the army above win this war.
With that, Shonti wipes the tear from his face, and presses onward, hoping that we might rest soon. Rest or no rest, Shonti will continue with his companions, now feeling as if he owes his life to them no matter what end it may come to.

Shinto then looks around at the fallen, then his battered team. He thanks Sam for the cure, bringing him near half health. Killing them all is the only way to end this... How would Gargul, Domi, or Wardd feel? To who do I owe my faith and life for keeping me alive to see this through?

After the thoughts he addresses the group, moving into view of the mirror, hoping to catch the attention of Blackaxe as well, If we charge into battle.. No. A war, we're not able to make it lads. We've no healing, I know me little brothers got te be gettin low on spells as well, an me strength is failin'. We need to rest. Is the army strong enough to win this war? If not, can our small party really turn the odds in our weakened state? It's gotten ugly lads.

Shinto then decides to sit down, choosing a dead Duergar to squat on. Laying his axe at his side, he closes his eyes and looks to the ground. Ugly is the best of it.....

Noticing that his brother does not wish to continue onward at this moment, and feeling the need to rest himself, Shonti taps Braugh on the shoulder. Braugh, are we moving forward already? I believe we should all take this time to rest, and to properly pay our respects to our fallen brother.
Shonti stops in his tracks, then says We'll never come through this alive without your and Sam's healing, not to mention my spells... I certainly wish to avenge Dernocks untimely death, as much as any of you...... But I fear we will all perish in the same manner if we don't regroup, and replenish our weak bodies and feeble minds.
Looking back at Shinto, I can't.. No, I won't leave my brother behind. Not my own flesh and blood.... Shonti stands his ground, and waits for the groups decision...

"I do agree that we are battered and weak. The assault has already begun. The enemy might be driven to our group while we sleep. How well would we do then? As much as I'm not excited about it, my opinion is that we continue on. If we stay together and use our heads, we will prevail."

A voice calls out from the hall. "We are on the precipice of a war. I have no intention to rest right now." Tag strides out far enough into the light so that you can see the outline of him with his hood up. "Drakesmeade needs every fighter she can get."

Aye were battered and bruised but Tag is right the fight has just begun. I'm for moving on, if Sam can't get Blackaxe for an appraisal I may have a way ta get us where we are needed. Devlin sees that any prisoners that want to fight are well equipped before melting away into the shadows.

With the loss of one - DM RobC

Taggart blends in to the shadows by the door to keep watch as the group prepare to mobilise again.

Devlin packs what equipment he can away, taking care not to touch Humphrey's sword. Any spare weapons are provided to the freed prisoners.

There is much discussion in the party as to whether they can go on without resting, but resting now could make things worse later.

Sam treats Shinto and Devlin and then uses the mirror to contact BlackAxe. The mirror changes to show the face of an elf however. "Yes, hello? Ah, the gnome. Yes, Tally here. BlackAxe is a tad occupied at the moment" the elf advises politely then looks over his shoulder. In the background you can hear BlackAxe screaming "What? You want to meet my axe? Then HERE! And you? You want some too ? YAAARRGGGHHH!!!"

"Indeed, the battle is going quite favourably" Tally says returning his attention back to the mirror. On hearing of the groups situation and need for healing, Tally purses his lips and then responds "We are.. hmm.. where are we? Just a moment. Tahni, how far away from them are we?" Tally looks away from the mirror for a moment with furrowed brows. "Ah yes. Tahni says we are east of your position. We'll start moving towards you. I advise you to move towards us as well. Keep an ear out for BlackAxe and you'll know you're close"

Leaving a few dwarven men to stay behind to guard the women, children, the wounded and to watch over Dernock's corpse, the rest fall in behind the party. The men look weak - worked to the bone and barely fed, and some seem to struggle under the weight of the warhammers they carry. But not one complains. Nods and smiles are given to each other with the knowledge that should Gargul come for them this day, they will die an honourable death.

Moving out of the jail and heading east, the party encounter very little resistance. Devlin and Taggart pick off any stray duergar as they make themselves known. Shinto and Kyachi could start a running count as to who will decapitate the most duergar by the end of the day. Bruagh acts as a bodyguard for the summoners - Sam, Sarnak and Shonti.

One positive (if it can be called that) is that more duergar bodies are found than dwarves. The duergar summoner from earlier is found dead, slumped against a wall. His right arm lays on the ground, cleanly severed at the shoulder.

The party soon find themselves at the entrance to an open courtyard. Fighting seems to be occurring everywhere, with little structure, order or coordination. The battle must be in full swing. Dwarves and gnomes are together and seem to be overwhelming the diminishing duergar forces. Clustered together a short distance ahead of you in the courtyard you can see Tally and Tahni standing back-to-back. Each is casting spells on the dwarves nearby, evidently attempting to bolster them. Though only having one-arm, Guy Baltar appears to have things under control with his axe keeping a deurgar at bay. Nearby you spy Captain RedForge wielding a warhammer in one hand and a shield in the other, engaged in combat against a duergar of similar stature. Over the noise you can hear a familiar voice "Oi, how about a haircut? And you - keep your eye on this! You'll rue the day you messed with THIS dwarf!". Directly in front of the party, a duergar warrior drops to the ground. Standing behind him is a dwarf holding a wicked looking axe in each hand. This dwarf is covered head-to-toe in blood, though you can see no obvious wounds on him. The beardless youth smiles upon seeing you and his white teeth contrast the shiny crimson liquid that covers him and mats his hair "Sir Stormbringer! It's me!" he calls. Spying duergar approaching from either side, the youth spins to the right delivering an axe to the approaching dark-bloods neck, before spinning back again, an axe striking low and lopping off the other duergar's leg. The dwarf then finishes the duergar off with a blow to the chest.

The dwarven prisoners behind you let out battlecries and with renewed strength rush into the fray.

It seem like every dwarf and gnome in the Scab is here to reclaim DrakesMeade.

(No attack rolls needed. Feel free to roleplay any combat you wish though. Think of this as the kind of battle you see at the end of a good action movie; the slow motion shots, violent and amazing combat moves, etc. Go for it. Give your character some colorful kills :))

"Dreaming or dead? Seems you've forgotten the third option - drunk" Hank replies with a smile, then leans back in his chair eyeing his friend "Come on. Let's get a drink. Excuse us" he says as he stands and walks with Dernock to the bar. Once there, Hank signals the bartender for two drinks, before turning to Dernock. Hank smiles and speaks in a hushed voice "So what do you remember?" Despite having been friends for so long, the gnome's face is hard to read. Happiness, concern and a touch of sadness.

Sam sees an opportunity to fulfill his role with maximum effect. He slings his crossbow and pulls out his jeweled scepter. While moving towards the center of the courtyard, he speaks through it in a loud and inspiring way,"This is it my fellow dwarves and gnomes! Take back what is rightfully yours! Do not stop fighting until every foe is defeated or has lost the will to fight!". (inspire courage)

Sam's words are amplified throughtout the courtyard. They bounce of the walls and can be heard down distant hallways. For the first time in awhile, Sam feels relief as the people of MountainBurrow battle the remaining duergar. He then remembers his vision while activating the bomb and also the meeting with the demon in the cave leading under Drakesmeade.

"Are there more of they're kind here?"

The effects of his bardic performance stay with Sam's allies. His thoughts...are elsewhere.

Bruagh takes point slashing through the duergar. In the tight corridors alongside him companions the darkbloods don't stand a chance. Slashing and cutting, blocking and parrying, the Paladin is silent, lost somewhere in a very dark place still blaming himself for Dernock's death. His mood is lifted somewhat when he finally sees Tahni, Blackaxe, Guy, and the rest of the gang standing firm. He even allows himself a quick smile at seeing Dende, the boy he Tahni and Devlin rescued from the orphanage what seems oh so long ago. He thinks back to the grievous wound the boy had suffered and how he watched him grow in such a short period of time. How proud he had been when he said his words and followed in Bruagh's footsteps as a Paladin. It was almost like watching his own son grow up... and just like that the pain was back on him. That's why he was taking Dernock's death so hard. Just like when his son died, he felt helpless. There was no one he could attack, and no way to make things right. Just the living stuck with the memories of loved ones lost.

Bruagh makes his way to Dende and puts an arm on his shoulder. "Glad to see you son... I'm proud of you."

When Bruagh sees Tahni he can't help but blush a little. He is extremely happy to see his... dear... friend, but he seems worried someone will mention the words that were said about her in regards to Humphrey.

Upon reaching the battle Devlin gives a short wave to his companions before melting away into the confusion. He easily slips through the press of bodies his blades flashing in and out as he finds exposed flanks and unarmored backs. Leaving a trail of bleeding and confused opponents in his wake he finds an area strewn with rubble and sets this as his area of operation. With a sword in one hand and a crossbow in another he begins to prowl the shadowy cracks and crevices striking out when the enemy gets near and melting away before they can catch him. The rubble and battle provide all the shelter and distraction the rogue needs to work his deadly art, soon the enemy begins to fear approaching the kill zone.

With a slight break Devlin turns his focus to protecting his friends. Bolts fly from the rubble striking enemies from behind causing an attack to miss or a spell to fail. Occasionally he returns to defending his position when a darkblood is foolish enough to venture too close.

He is happy to see the boy Dende and their once companion Tahni but keeps his feelings below the surface only allowing anger and hatred to come to the fore. More than once his opponents mistake him for one of their own, only to die at the end of a blade or take a bolt though the neck.

Devlin continues his mission until the last of the duergar are wiped from the area.

As Sarnak and Kyachi enter the battlefield and look upon the carnage in progress Kyachi turns for a moment, asking for permission to go ahead as Sarnak nods, as she Jumps into the fray, charging from target to target dismembering a army of duergar on her own, as Sarnak walks towards the base of the Dwarves, looking around for Blackaxe as he waits for Kyachi to finish with her fun, as he sends out a mental command to not get too battered up out there, Who knows what the future holds and he may yet need her alive later in the day.

Kyachi, meanwhile was busying herself with ripping out or slicing the throats of many duergar as she pranced around the battlefield, never engaging for more than a instant against any target before darting to the next, the spells Sarnak had cast upon her protecting her from the large majority of any retaliation. After it was over, she returns to Sarnak, covered in blood and gore. "Ah, that was fun. I had no chance to play in the caves down there, there were too many obstructions, not like this wonderful open field of death."

Shonti AC15/14/11 - CMD14 - HP13/34
Tuesday August 21st, 2012 10:08:32 PM

OOC: Shinto is not able to post this evening, so he asked that I just make a "double-post" covering the Zarbadium brothers through this final battle-royale... Here goes that:

Keeping close to Shinto, Shonti watches his flank as best he can, saying nothing to his brother, only making eye contact long enough to nod towards his next enemy as Shinto cuts, slices, chops, stabs, and parries through into the heat of battle. One, Two. Argh, Three! A Half!! Nother one! T'is one's Six! Shinto shouts out his kills each time a Duergar falls via his Frozen Soul.

Stepping over bodies, and ducking under a particularily close swing of an axe just before Shinto lops off the head of his attacker, a small band of Duergar completely blocked from Shinto's view make it within a polearms reach to the brothers. Shinto throws The Frozen Soul at the final Darkblood he can see coming their direction... At this time, Shonti realizes that his purpose here is to possibly save Shinto's life from a 5-1 ambush from his backside as he is distracted for a fraction of a second by what he thinks is the last of the Duergar. Shonti reacts quickly, always having to be very aware of his surroundings when fighting alongside his brother. He turns on the spot and sends a vast array of colorful lights and other such brightly lit streamers flying directly at the group of Darkbloods, leaving all of them stunned, and temporarily blind.

All of them in a daze from his Color Spray, Shonti decides it's time to call upon the very Earth running through his blood, and kill all of these would-be backstabbers. He outstreches his arm towards the group of stunned Duergar, and throws out multiple gobs of acid, mixed with plenty of the rubble, gravel, and rocks at his feet right at the faces and chests of the darkblood in front of him. The Earth pelts the enemies from every possible angle, leaving rocks and debri stuck in the skin of their faces, cutting straight through the eyes of one unlucky foe. Another catches a fair amount of acid down the front of his chain shirt, causing him to scream bloody murder from the unbearable pain of the acid eating through his flesh..

The faces of the Duergar, Dwarves, and Gnomes, both friend and foe alike dying in front of him, and the ending battle of the war around him utterly horrify Shonti... He has mixed emotions at this point..... How can we be so merciless? They didn't care when it was my neck at the end of their axes..... Do I not have any remorse for killing these men? They would have killed us all if Sam hadn't blown them to smitherines.... Even if they are pure evil, can we really justify taking this many lives off the surface of the Wold in just one day? Killing them won't bring Dernock back.... I shall seek counsil with Braugh, and Shinto at the end of this day... I need some answers.

The Dwarves Have Returned to DrakesMeade - DM RobC
Wednesday August 22nd, 2012 1:44:12 AM

The dwarves & gnomes are uplifted by the party's entrance, and seem to fight that much harder as Sam does what he can to spur them on.

Taggart and Devlin attack from the shadows with stealth and precision. Kyachi's face gets covered in blood as she moves hastily from enemy to enemy. Shinto and Shonti show their trademark teamwork, dispatching duergar together.

Realising that defeat is inevitable, the duergar seem to be in full retreat and flee via whatever window, doorway or tunnel is nearby. In much the way that rats would leave a sinking ship, the dark bloods stream from DrakesMeade, with arrows and crossbow bolts trailing behind them killing any stragglers.

Though many dwarves and gnomes have left the courtyard to pursue the fleeing duergar, a small number remain to catch their breath with the party. Cheers and laughter start to echo throughout the keep as well as the occaisional chant of "Domi! Domi! Domi!" BlackAxe practically has foam coming from his mouth, and his chest heaves as he pants. Looking around and slowly calming down, he and Captain RedForge nod to each other. RedForge goes to BlackAxe and the two warriors clasp each others forearms, shaking hands for a job well done. BlackAxe laughs and pulls RedForge closer to him, hugging the captain. "Victory!" cries BlackAxe to the skies.

Dende, the orphan boy previously rescued by the party, appears to have survived this battle completely unscathed. When no living duergar are left in the courtyard, he makes his way to Guy. Guy is limping and appears to have a nasty gash to his side. Dende helps support him, placing Guy's one good arm over his shoulders and supporting his weight. Tally is moving between the injured dwarves, and providing very quick triage where possible. Tahni is likewise doing the same. She goes to Guy, and you see her hands glow white as she treats his wounds. Tahni looks around and smiles broadly, obviously happy to see the party once again. Her reaction is quite different on seeing Bruagh however, as she rushes to him - practically knocking the sturdy paladin down. Tahni throws her arms around Bruagh's neck and hugs him close "Thank Alemi you're ok" she says, resting her head on his shoulder.

The party gather around.

"I just wish it had't been like this. You're dead, lad." Hank pauses to let his words sink in. "This is a place for those who have died but for whatever reason refuse to go to the Lands of Rest. The Dwarves Have Returned to DrakesMeade - DM RobC
Wednesday August 22nd, 2012 11:22:50 PM

Sam takes a moment to finally rest and watches as the others celebrate this victory. He begins to question his place in this world, wondering what will become of the group and of himself.

Shinto and Shonti too are grateful for a chance to rest. Shonti takes a moment to thank Sam for risking his own life to save theirs. (@Shonti - Please see my note below re loot)

Seeing a place for himself in the group after all, Sam allows himself to smile. Perhaps this battle will make a fantastic chapter in his book?

Smiles seem to be contagious, as Devlin uncharacteristically allows a grin to form on his face. His scowl soon returns as he scans the rooftops for signs of an enemy sniper. None can be found.

Taggart stays quiet, and any signs of joy he may be feeling are hidden under his hood.

Sarnak reports in to BlackAxe as Kyachi sets to cleaning herself off. BlackAxe is still smiling and gives the summoner an hearty thump on the back "Ha! Mostly successful is far better than mostly failure!" BlackAxe appears to be at ease with the concept of 'acceptable losses'.

A few dwarven clerics and gnomish sorcerors are making their way through the survivors - the clerics casting healing spells and blessings, the sorcerors casting prestidigation spells to try and clean faces and wounds.

Tahni holds Bruagh close. It's been too long since the two have seen each other. She seems confused as the paladin pulls away but she quickly understands why on seeing his return with Dernock's corpse. Tahni slowly walks over to Bruagh and pulls back the cloak to reveal what remains of Dernock's face. "Tally! she calls out surprisingly loudly and kneels by Dernock's side as Bruagh lays him on the ground. The elven cleric hurries over - though hurry for this elf means walking fastly. Tally almost shows signs of concern as he places his open hand over Dernock's chest. A few tense minutes of silence pass before Tally speaks. "He has died recently" Tally says stating the obvious "however his spirit has not yet found rest. I believe working together that Tahni and I may be able to assist him, though you all should understand the risks"

Tally raises his eyes from Dernock to look at each member of the party as he speaks "His spirit is yet to find the Lands of Rest. Tahni and I can help him do that, and help his soul find peace. There is another approach, though the risk is not only to Dernock but to you all as well. If you are willing we can invoke Gargul's rites and seek you an audience with the God of Life and Death. There is no guarantee on the outcome, nor your safety. If you are all willing, you only need to sit by his side and have contact with his body."

Tahni appears hesitant and seems to be shying away. "It's ok young one. You are able to do this" Tally reaffirms her, and gestures for her to be ready to commence. Tahni takes a cleansing breath and places both her hands on Dernock's chest. "What would you have us do? The longer we wait the less chance he will come back" Tally asks the group.

====================

Hank smiles gently to Dernock "Ok, that's a start. So what do you think is keeping you here? The sooner you come to peace with it, the sooner you can be at rest" he sips his drink, placing it back on the bar and looking to Dernock to answer.

Fantastic posting everyone! Not only in frequency but quality too. I'm getting a real sense of your characters coming through.

As for loot and items...
Carl and I have intentionally been trying to bring the party wealth back a bit. The party have at times been 4x or 5x the recommended wealth for their level (which can make some encounters far too easy). We are trying to rein things back to 2x. As a result, you shouldn't expect much loot from this particular module. Besides, there are a thousand or so dwarves and gnomes here who need to restock, resupply and rebuild - I'm sure you'd all be donating any findings to their cause ;)

There will be an opportunity shortly to rest/level/shop at the catacombs, however we have one last thing to take care of - what will become of Dernock? :)

@Shinto/Shonti : You don't seem to have spent all the wealth that was provided to you at character build. You might want to get some shopping in during the break that's coming up soon. Please feel free to email Carl or myself any questions you may have.

Devlin finishes his scan of the surroundings and than nods to Tahani and Tally. I did not know Dernock for long but his unwavering devotion to the protection of Dwarven kind has my vote. I just hope Gargul has time ta see us, what with all the dead Deurgar.

He places a hand on Dernock's shoulder and gives a squeeze.

"Can we do the ritual now? If so, what are we waiting for?"

(If the ritual can start) Sam is ready to help save Dernock from death. He's not about to sit idly while a friend's life hangs in the balance. Sam sits by the lifeless body of Dernock and places his hand on his forehead.

"Don't get too comfortable wherever you are Dernock. We're bringing you back."

Shonti AC15/14/11 - CMD14 - HP13/34
Thursday August 23rd, 2012 5:46:23 PM

Immediately after hearing of a possibility to ressurect Dernock, Shonti quickly makes his way to his lifeless body, and kneels beside him. Shonti places two fingers on Dernock's neck, as if checking for a pulse though none is apparent...

Looking at each of the members of the group in turn, encouraging them to take part in the ritual.
Let us seek counsel with Gargul, and pray that he may bring Dernock's soul back to life inside of his body, here with us...

Bruagh Stormbringer AC 26/12/22 -- CMD 18/22 -- HP 33/53
Thursday August 23rd, 2012 6:40:14 PM

Bruagh hugs Tahni again before addressing the group. "Let's do this."

The Paladin tries to keep a calm and determined air about him but he is nervous. "Asking Gargul for the life of one after sending so many to him on the very same day seems borderline hypocritical. I only hope he doesn't see it that way."

Before they continue Bruagh whispers to Tahni. "In case anything happens, I just want you to know that I... I... Well, I..." Before he can get the words out he loses his courage and instead ends with, "I need to talk to you alone... later. Yeah."

Shinto AC: 20 (SR:15) CMD: 21/25 HP: 12/42

Shinto looks around at everything going on, lost in his own thoughts
So many have died, good dwarves and gnomes for a cause more just than anything ive seen. Yet, in the end the righteous have won. Drakesmead is ours again. What happens now? Shonti and I have traveled alone for long enough I believe, I hope he has thoughts of staying with this group. Our new family as it seems. But what of meself, who do i owe me breath to? I must pledge devotion to the god that saw me threw that blast .

He makes his wah to the group now sitting around Dernock, I don know ye, but Dernock IS a brother of mine now. Jus as much as Shonti here. If we cen bring em back, les do it already. Id not have em suffer in waitin. Shinto grabs Dernocks calf and squeezes tightly, unsure of what to expect next.

Sarnak nods as well. "Well, the worst he can tell us is no, let's give it a shot."
