s the morning comes, he wakes up from sleeping much better this uneventful night, waking up slowly and checking his breath before addressing the party, making sure to speak before Yngvar and Raven have set their spells for the day, "Well, I did some thinking before my mind transited to the dream world and I guess it would be smart to have some sort of plan on dealing with the parasaurolophuses. As we only need one of these oversized lizards, I thought about somehow trapping one or two of them in a way that it cannot escape and scaring the others away, probably with fire or something...anyone knows that spell that makes noises? Can that be used to mimic a large carnivorous saur's roar?"
"That way, we only have to deal with one parasaurolophus. Should make the whole encounter as uneventful as possible and keep our resources depletion to a minimum. Just a rough idea, the details still need to be worked out, I might attempt to make a Tanglefoot Bag, but I'm unsure if the necessary components are available around or how much time it would take to gather them. So that might not be the best idea for that reason alone, you guys know this jungle better than anyone who ever published a book on this place does, if anyone got something, I'm all long ears."
"Oh yes, also, I apologize for a silly mistake I'm guilty to have committed: one of the spells that I have in my book here happens to be Crafter's Fortune, which, as anyone arcane-related most probably knows, is a simple spell with a very long duration that aids the subject on his next attempt at crafting anything. Since I tend to leave at least three unused extracts each day and may a battle surface I won't have any time at all to make any use of them mid-battle, it's a smart idea to use at least two of them as Crafter's Fortunes before we get our rest, if we have a rough plan decided on the night, we might even choose specifically who will be drinking, but regardless, doing it in this fashion allows us to benefit from the spell's effect while allowing me to still prepare all of my extracts for the following day", he takes a deep breath after saying too much.
"Anyway, if per chance I forget once again about these extracts, please, be sure to remind me this night, it might not be much nor I believe it will be the difference between life and death, but since we have the option of benefiting from this nearly free of charge increase in our abilities, I absolutely can't see any reason not to do it."

Faust looks perplexed, "W-what the...how...how did you get that from...what I just said...?"
He rubs his eyes in frustration and then continues, "Ok...on a technical level you're both correct and wrong. Yes, there are chemical reactions involved sometimes, however that is not all that is needed, you also need to drop a specific amount of arcane energy in the correct fashion...it's really hard to explain in detail for someone not initiated (hell, even some initiated), but think of it like this: you are a strong member of the taur race and has your two very thick and strong arms, correct?"
"Now, would it be correct to say that you use the exact same motion and strength to lift a fragile human baby and to punch someone in the face so their nose meet the back their head? Arcane magic is a lot like that, especially for the natural practitioners, but nonetheless vital for a learned caster such as myself and mr. Hefnd here. Take for example Disguise Self and Shield, neither requires any sort of material component, but both are vastly different in effect. I'll gladly show you at some night if we have the chance, as much as I'd like to do so now, the amount of arcane energy I'm able to produce and control before having to rest is limited, so spending two extracts this early in the morning without any practical purpose is very against our best interest."
He smirks, "But that's on a theory level, I could go on all day talking about that, my father has researched and published some books on the matter...and had many more notes and roughs lying on his study, which I read and understood to the core; but I believe that you are more of a practical sort of guy, mr. Stormhorn, so allow me to demonstrate.", he picks up one of his hide sphere bombs, "Remember this from the other night? I threw it and *boom*, fire, correct? But I wonder what would happen if I threw it at you...RIGHT THIS INSTANT!!"
With a quick motion he flings the bomb at Meranus' direction, hitting him in the shoulder, but the sphere pathetically bounces off Meranus' hide and flops on the ground, with absolutely zero effect. "See? Nothing. Why? Because the chemicals are there, but the reaction itself won't take place until activated with arcane energy, so unless I concentrate and activate it, it's just useless junk bits of reagents with zero value. Now...the next part of the demonstration would be me activating that particular bomb and showing that I can even control the end result using only my control of arcane energy, but throwing a potentially incendiary object while at a rather small space which has a tree for a ceiling doesn't sound like the smartest idea; as much control that I have over the result, my theories aren't fully fleshed out, ergo, for now, the result will be fire, but I personally believe that soon I should be able to mimic a Fog Cloud effect with them, I just have to find the exact wave of arcane energy that needs to...to--"
"-Ahem-, sorry, lost myself in thought there...anyway, here's what I will do: I want you to hold onto this one bomb. Make a specific mark on it and even throw it around couple times, I guarantee that, by itself, it won't do anything. On a more proper location, once you're fully convinced that this thing does nothing, I shall then activate and throw it to prove that, while there are chemicals at work, that's not all that there is at work."[/b]

'help' to force his will on the world. Now a true practitioner of the arcane arts, like myself, studies to control the world by force of will alone." Yngvar holds out his hand and with a quick incantation a gently glowing orb of green energy manifests above his palm, slowly swirling while Yngvar looks about before grabbing a brnach and placing it on the ground before his feet. Dropping the orb onto the branch, it splashes and hisses as it dissolves the branch into two pieces.

Faust gives a mean look at Yngvar as he mentions that Faust is less of an arcane practitioner than himself. "Now, now...you're twisting the situation and intent here...while yes, I do require an extra focus when casting my spells, namely this special elixir I use as a catalyst for my arcane power to gain shape, it's by no means a 'help', in a sense it can be said that my understanding of the arcane might be even greater than yours...but that's besides the point. These things that I do, are merely a theory or, rather, an experiment on the art of transforming raw arcane power into physical effects, the different ways that a spellcaster is able to twist and bend these powers to produce similar yet different results, such a Bard who creates magic out of music and, last but not least, the relationship between potions mechanics and actual spells."
"As you most probably know yourself, there are severe limitations when turning a spell into a potion, such as the power of the spell itself but, even below that, there's the limitation of which spells you can put in it. Spelling it out loud, spells that affect the caster himself, meaning that there is no targeting of its effects, normally can't be made into a potion.", he holds up one of his extract vials with a transparent liquid inside and goes on, smirking, "However, I have devised a way to mimic the effect, this special inert elixir you see in this vial works just like my own body and self, as far as my methodology of casting is concerned. This means that, unlike you, my dear friend, I am fully capable of, for example, 'casting' Disguise Self on mr. Stormhorn here instead of myself simply by having him drink the activated form of this extract. On a similar note, but more of a side-effect as opposed to my true intention, my spells are pre-cast and prepared in a different method, ergo, they only need the action of drinking the vial to take effect, and I don't have to concern myself with having enough room to wave my arms around or not nor have to walk around using only cloth in fear that metal or hide might cause conflict with the flow of arcane energy in my body."
"My bombs serve and function in similar fashion. I assure that they're completely safe and harmless in their inert state, much like your arcane components, their intention was, however, for them to use a smaller fraction of my arcane energy, in an attempt to be able to 'cast' more spells without the need for having a greater arcane reserve or control. Since my focus with them as actual combat, as opposed to straight utility or perfection of one self, I based the design on the workings of the Fireball spell, which does a decent job at maximizing the effect while maintaining the arcane cost decently low, which is why the end result is a gulf of flame."
He finally seems to be close to the end of his digression as he starts to lose his irritating cocky smirk, "All that said, take no offense of my words, my friend, as I said before, this is mostly an experiment and exploring of unforeseen nuances and options within the standard academic arcane practice methodology that I'm conducting, it's by no means meant to be better than standard arcane casting, just comparable in effect and equally valuable in the field...if my theories and ideas prove to be true and useful, I plan on publishing books about it and see if I can stir the arcane academic world a bit."

Before everyone gets to sleep, he prepares 2 more doses of Crafter's Fortune and passes it around for anyone who thinks it might be needed.
Later, during the watch as Ragnarök takes a better look at Faust, it he ever saw a drow in his life and paid attention, it's easy to see that Faust's skin tone is much less pale than what you'd expect from a drow, even though it's still of the very characteristic standard gray with a dark blue hue to it.
Faust stays alert with his crossbow loaded at hand, while keeping his bombs ready in his pockets, he whispers back at Ragnarök: "Well...not quite...while it's true that I can make potions of spells that would otherwise be impossible, it doesn't mean that every single spell known to men works under my conversion...for a quick example, take offensive spells such as the aforementioned Fireball or even a simple Silent Image...due to the workings of said spells versus that of my extracts, it's completely impossible to imbue them into the liquid, which is why I focused mostly on transmutation spells and other spells that deal with body alteration or enhancement."
"That's the main reason why I choose to dedicate a smaller portion of my daily arcane energy into my spells and decided to also develop my bombs, just so I don't lose my offensive power, which would be quite a disaster for someone planning on adventuring and not exactly full of free time to develop my physical skills...", he says, while keeping an eye on the surroundings, especially at what's beyond the reach of the fire's light.
Let's just roll with Faust saying all that during dinner instead...so we can start to benefit from Crafter's fortunes...anyone who's got a Craft skill that might be useful in the near future is welcome to chug one flask down and benefit from it.

The grass is almost wheatlike, about 3 feet high and easily bends in the breezes rolling across them. Currently the wind is moving right to left in general. Trees dot the area in tight groups of 3 to 5.
Ranging across this vast grassland are some of the largest creatures you have ever seen. There are multiple varieties moving about in small family units of about a dozen including the type you were hoping to find. The nearest dinosaurs are a little over six hundred feet away and from here at least you cannot see any predators

"We don't want the wind in our backs... I think we should try to do as Yngvar suggests although two days also means that for two days we can be attacked... Right now anything ahead of us won't smell us but if wind stays like this we should first try to circle before we can approach them from the left. "
Then Rag looks at the trees nearby.
"We're still way too far to get a clear look at the situation... How about we try to move to one of those groups of trees? Preferably those left from us and we climb in to get a decent overview of the surroundings. We may also be able to spot things drawing closer to us. I don't like standing here with the jungle in our backs. We can't be approached unseen near those trees..."

"Oh, and by the way, mr. Stormhorn, I want you to hold onto this...I had it prepared before, but our surroundings were so crammed that it felt like a very bad idea to use it at all, but now...heheheh..."
He hands over one of his vials with a liquid of strange coloration to Meranus, "Quite honestly, this might just convince you that there is magic...but regardless of your personal view on the matter...that's a nice Enlarge extract, if I were to use it, I might even be able to fight on equal terms to you, but if you use it...hell, I'd bet the dinos would be in serious trouble! So, keep it on yourself and drink when we decide to make the attack."
By the way, was I able to determine if the materials for a Tanglefoot Bag are available nearby (so I can gather and create the item while the others keep watch)?

The group surveys the area from the treeline for a moment or two. A quick conversation about how to proceed takes place. Stake out the area for a few days, slowly circle into the wind or head to the nearest tree copse? Faust hands Meranus a vial, supposedly it will make him physically larger. At the camp last night the drow did not notice a suitable supply of tar or other resin like material.
Most all in the group think of the other predators that could be about, the raptors they have already encountered could easily hide in these grasses and what could be the most worrisome fact is that no one sees any. Nathanial hands Ragnarok one of the bags and pulling his bow fades to the back of the group to the right hand side. "Just keep your eyes and ears open Crow."
In the end the group heads towards the nearest tree grouping. Meranus sets the pace, Torregan and Nathanial fall in and Faust, Yngvar, Ellie and Ragnarok quickly find it to be much faster than theirs. On the grasslands Monday August 27th, 2012 4:44:23 PM
The group sits in the shelter of the trees as the wind blows gently across the plains. A few clouds start to gather in the distance, slowly building larger and taller. As the group discusses their options, Ragnarok starts to climb one of the tall trees. A few feet from the ground, he reaches for a branch that isn't there and he slowly slides down until he finds himself back on the ground. He shrugs and tries again, this time easily scampering up the tree.
Raven suggests surrounding one of the massive beasts and attacking it all together. Ragnarok thinks that it may be best to wait until one wanders away on it's own. Faust tries to think of any way that he might be able to attract the dinosaurs, but he's not really sure of anything. The eat grass and there's plenty of that around for them here in these giant plains.
Toregan thinks that perhaps the group could hobble one of the creatures, forcing one to separate from the others. He's not quite sure how to do that, though. Ellie thinks about it, but she's also at a loss at how to slow one of the giant beasts down. Meranus suggests that perhaps one of the group could somehow chase one of the beasts into a trap set by the rest.
Faust then hits on the idea of using an illusion of some sort to, well, do something. Cornering a giant dinosaur in the middle of a plains area may not work so well, however. Yngvar suggests that perhaps he could make an illusion that will fool the beasts into being trapped, perhaps even getting one of the beasts to do all the work and get itself stuck in some trees.
Meanwhile, from his perch, Ragnarok sways slightly with the tree as he watches the giant beasts moving slowly about, casually eating massive chunks of grass and even some smaller trees, completely unaware of the goings-on in the nearby thicket...

Toregan looks out across the plains, as does Faust, trying to determine the best location for their trap and the illusion plan. Toregan guesses that the closest group of grazing beasts is around 200 feet from the group of trees where the group is hiding and the forest on the other side is much further away (maybe half a mile, maybe a mile, hard to guess distances when looking at dinosaurs and grass).
Looking closely at the small group of trees where the group is hidden, they quickly realize that the size of the dinosaurs and their number could easily plow through the area, flattening all the trees and everything in them in a matter of moments. As Faust is looking for the right tree, he notices one of the dinosaurs with a long neck in the middle of the group suddenly lifts it's giant head up in the air and seems to be sniffing the air. Currently the breeze is blowing from behind the copse of trees and towards the grazing beasts. Surely that monster couldn't be smelling the group at that distance with such a light breeze, could it?

On the grasslands Wednesday August 29th, 2012 2:18:09 PM
The group continues to attempt to decide what to do. No one here has ever tried to hunt anything at all like these massive beasts before. Meranus finally just to head on out there and attack one. The group agrees that trying to isolate one from the rest will the best bet and everyone hopes that no one will get trampled. Ragnarok jumps down from thee tree and the group, led by Meranus, starts out into the grass.
The wind continues to blow gently as everyone steps into the tall grass and out the trees. The sun is still bright, but the clouds continue to build and tall thunderclouds are visible across the grassland towards the trees. The ground is generally flat all around, with just a few small rocks here and there. The grass is tall and waves gently.
When the group is about 25 feet from the shelter of the small copse of trees, there is an extremely loud bellowing that causes everyone to cover their ears. The next moment, the ground starts shaking and there is incredible noise coming from the direction of the herd. Indeed, it is what was feared all along --a stampede!
The first of the beasts is still around 200 feet from the group, but they are headed directly towards the group in a giant mass of dinosaur flesh. From where you stand, the width of the stampede looks to be at least 1000 feet wide. And yes, they are heading directly towards you.

In a split second Ragnarök attempts to see if it's a line of dino's of 1000ft (?!? GULP) wide running towards them or if it's a pack with several running after one another... if they could just attack the one running directly towards them before he tramples the group the rest might just run by or be scared that one of their pack collapses to the ground... (meat in place :-) )
He shouts to the rest of the group : "NO CHANCE TO OUTRUN 'M!! HIT THE ONE COMING STRAIGHT AT US WITH EVERYTHING WE GOT ONCE HE'S IN RANGE! FOR DOMI AIM WELL!!!"
As they are still 200ft away the monk pulls out his crossbow and waits... once the dino is in range he releases the bolt hoping for more bolts and spells to be aimed at the same dino...

Ragnarok scans the mass of dinosaurs heading towards the group. With the movement of the mass, it's quite hard to see if they are more than one deep, but it certainly appears that there's more than one headed right towards the group! He quickly pulls out his crossbow and shoots it into the ground about 20 feet away.
Meranus quickly pulls out a vial and drinks the contents. Meranus is now 21 feet tall and weighs over 10,000 pounds. Most of the charging dinosaurs are longer, but shorter than Meranus, but appear to be around the same weight overall. However, there are dozens of the charging dinosaurs. He takes a stance to defend against the charge.
Toregan also quickly looses a crossbow bolt -- a bit too quickly, as his bolt flies high into the air and disappears.
Yngvar, having already been thinking about various options for an illusion, also thinks quickly and create the illusion of a giant rock taller even than the newly enlarged Meranus. He places the rock next to Meranus and then quickly scrambles behind the rock. Faust grabs for a vial of his own as he moves behind the rock with Yngvar.
The mass of dinosaurs mindlessly stampeding quickly swerve to avoid both the rock and Meranus. The sound of the massive dinosaur feet trampling by is nearly overwhelming. They are stirring up dirt and dust as they go past, covering the entire area in dust and debris. Small rocks and branches rain down on everyone but Meranus.
Most of the group cowers behind the rock and hide in the dust. Meranus, being a bit taller, can see quite a bit more (Meranus only): Highlight to display spoiler: {Near the back of the group of dinosaurs, you can see why they started to stampede -- the herd was attacked! Around 100 feet away you see one of the herd creatures that has been taken down by at least three raptors. The dinosaur is twitching in it's last death throes with one raptor standing upon the torn and bloodied body. As you look over the carnage, the raptor on top of the dinosaur looks over and spots you (kind of hard to miss the new giant on the field). The raptor makes some clicking noises and the two others on the ground look up from their kill directly at you.}

On the grasslands d20+2=6 ; Friday August 31st, 2012 4:57:10 PM
The dinosaurs continue their thunderous stampede and the dust will take some time to settle unless the coming thunderclouds arrive quickly. Ragnarok looks up to the giant Meranus and prepares for a chase until Meranus cries out the warning about the raptors.
Ellie fires at one of the retreating dinos and as far as she can see, she hit it. It doesn't slow down at all.
As the herd comes by, Meranus tries to gore the beasts a few times, but they all manage to rather nimbly dodge his attempts. He looks up and yells a warning about the raptors.
Toregan peeks out around the side of Meranus and takes a shot at one of the raptors. It is a long, difficult shot through the grass and dust, but he thinks he hit the creature. It turns and jumps into the thicker grass.
Raven hides, but casts a spell on Meranus to ensure he's even stronger now that he's huge.
Faust coughs in the dust and tries to throw a bomb at a fleeing dinosaur. The bomb hits the massive back of the creature, but rolls off harmlessly... until it hits the ground. There is a small "pop," then a "whoosh." The bomb has exploded and the light grasslands quickly catch fire. The smoke mixes with the dust in the air immediately. Faust turns at the warning about the raptors and spots the one atop the dead dinosaur, but realizes it is a bit out of range.
As the group turns to look at the raptors, the one on top of the dead dino looks around. It's jaws open and close, but with the massive stampede, you cannot hear anything else. The one on the ground takes a couple hops towards the group and turns it's head sideways, looking at the rock and Meranus.

Yngvar reacts quickly to the new threat and adjusts the size of the "rock" that's been created in the middle of the open plains. (Indeed, no penalties for characters, as Yngvar just told everyone it's an illusion). The rock shifts and shrinks before your eyes and actually moves over top Ellie, encasing her. At the same time, Faust finds himself on the outside of the new rock shelter.
Toregan stands in the shadow of the massive Meranus and fires the crossbow again. It slices through the grasses and strikes the raptor in the chest. As the rumbling of the dinosaurs has started to retreat, you think you almost hear a squawk as it strikes home.
Faust continues his attack on the stampeding dino. He gently tosses a bomb at the house-sized beast and it explodes on top of the beast. The rushing wind from the fleeing creature fan the flames and he watches as the flaming beast continues to run away from the group. As it runs, the wind blows back the smell of burning flesh. He quickly steps into the rock illusion to attempt to disappear from sight.
Ragnarok looks around and holds himself closer to the rock. He calls out to Meranus to take care of the attackers. Ellie and Rishka move further into the rock. Looking back out and around, she doesn't see anything coming towards her, but it is indeed quite difficult to see with the dust, wind, grasses blowing, and now the edge of the illusion blurring the vision out slightly.
Meranus turns and quickly runs towards the flames, leaving Toregan suddenly quite alone. He steps around Raven and rushes towards the flames. In his increased size, he is able to stomp out a bit of the fire, but the fire continues to spread on each and every blade of grass, so while the fire spread has been reduced, it is not completely gone yet. Fortunately for Meranus, the fire is small, so he is not at risk of catching on fire himself. He does get a mouthful of smoke as he stomps on the ground.
Meanwhile, the stampeding dinos quickly make their way away from the group, the rock, and the raptors. The fire starts to spread despite Meranus' efforts, the ground and grasses are just dry enough to easily light up. As the fire starts to grow, the smoke from the flames start to spread. The dust from the stampede is still high in the air and with the larger dinos gone, the clucking and ticking noises from the raptors can now be more clearly heard. Anyone watching their direction can see they are watching the group closely and moving slowly. The one standing on the downed dinosaur turns its head from one side to the other, now looking towards Toregan.
Suddenly, the raptor that Toregan attacked makes a sudden move and it runs directly at Toregan through the tall grass! Ellie turns and fires her crossbow at it, but she misjudges the speed of the beast and the shot flies way behind it. At the last moment, the raptor jumps in the air and comes down almost on top of Toregan. It slashes out with two claws that are almost completely turned away by his armor, but one finds a gap near the shoulder and it draws blood (just 1 damage). Toregan moves his head at the last moment to avoid the snapping jaws of the creature.
OOC: Keep up those perception rolls while the dust and smoke are around, no matter what you're doing. Being inside the illusion rock isn't really having in-game effects, the talk of the blurred edge was mostly just for flavor!

Faust coughs in the dust, takes a step around Ellie and fires a bolt from his crossbow. The bolt flies through the edge of the illusion rock and sizzles through the air as it strikes solidly in the approaching raptor. At the same time, Toregan drops his crossbow. As the crossbow hits the ground with a thump, Toregan yanks out his rapier and stabs the raptor in the neck. Red blood splashes out, hitting Toregan across the chest and face. Eyes bright with a chance for fun, Ragnarok quickly moves over to the side of Toregan and punches solidly into the side of the bloodied dinosaur. His fist connects and he thinks he hears bones breaking beneath his punch.
Meanwhile, Yngvar moves the rock illusion and steps forward with it, trying to keep the group safe and hidden. (Ok, I think I've got the rock in the right place now. Let me know if that's not quite it.)
Seemingly oblivious to the battle raging all around, Raven mindlessly takes a step forward into the moving rock (Any word on Raven/Jon?). Taking advantage of the opening, Meranus quickly stomps up to fill the space. He bends his horns towards the creature and perhaps misjudging the new, massive size of his horns, impales it on his horn. As he straightens up, the creature is stuck on his right horn.
Ellie continues to step with the illusion, as does Rishka. She starts speaking magical words and Rishka starts to glow slightly. (How tall will Rishka be after the spell? The rock is only ten feet tall now...)
The raptor that was approaching and had been hit by Faust quickly turns and moves away from the group, heading for the shelter of the dead dinosaur. The one on top of the dinosaur gives out a screech and Toregan suddenly finds himself in a mass of raptors. The raptors suddenly appear out of the grass to his side and all of them attack him viciously. The first slashes into his right leg with a claw (6 damage), bites his shoulder (2 damage), and even the small foreleg of the beast slices across his hip (3 damage). The second beast attacks just as ferociously, but Toregan's armor protects him: the claws and bite cannot penetrate the leather. The last beast manages to slice into Toregan's other leg (2 damage) and another small foreleg finds his exposed neck (3 damage).
Behind the group, the smoky area begins to expand and you can hear the crackle of the fire burning.

Meranus quickly scoots between the fire and the ranger (to 20,21,AB,AC). When the horn pierces one of the raptors (22 to hit, 22 damage on R6), he wants the raptor's full attention. He'll then roar at the other two, just to let them know he cares.

Coughing up blood as the raptors tear into his body, Toregan decides that his current position his far too.... hostile, much to his regret. He quickly turns and runs from the raptors and into the illusion, trying not to tear open the wound in his leg too badly.
Withdraw action to 14W, avoiding the threatened area of the visible raptors as best he can

Move action to Y19, throwing a bomb at R5 (+10), hitting touch AC 19, causing 14 fire damage and both R4 and R6 must make a Reflex check for half of 7 fire damage with a DC 16; using Precise Bombs to suppress the splash so it only hit both raptors (in effect, I'm negating the splash that would happen on Z17 and AB17)

If the perception check causes me to miss, the D8 roll is to determine where it lands, which would be Z17 in this case, still using Precise Bombs to suppress any fire that doesn't hit a raptor, and in this case only R5 would need to make the Reflex check for half damage.

Ragnarok steps up and tries to attack one of the newly arrived raptors, but instead looks more like he is dancing than actually fighting. The tooth-filled mouth of the raptor almost looks like it is smiling or laughing at him.
Meranus, with one raptor still hanging from one of his horns, moves up to engage the new enemies. He bends and his horn stabs deeply into the body of the raptor and its eyes glaze over for a moment as the shock of the massive damage strike it deeply. This raptor is clearly just barely alive. (I moved you where I thought you meant: 20,21,AB,AC would have you move through a threatened square, maybe twice, and put you out of the battle)
Toregan, finding himself overwhelmed, scampers back from the front lines and limps his way back into the apparent shelter of the magical rock. As he moves back towards the rock, he passes Faust who is running out towards the battle. Faust throws another of his bombs towards the attacking raptors. The bomb is a direct hit and it explodes on the chest of the center raptor. The fire sizzles and burns and the splash hits the raptor that Meranus struck. It falls to the ground and the smell of burning dinosaur flesh fills the air momentarily.
Raven shakes herself out of the shock of the battle and a light blue glow explodes from her, briefly washing everyone in the group in the warmth of magical healing. As the healing passes over Ellie, she casts another spell on Rishka and sends her out to the battle. She quickly heads over to the battle and slices into the raptor, nearly tearing its arm off. Ellie calls out to Toregan to get behind her.
Yngvar keeps the rock in place and steps with it, trying to keep everyone covered by the rock.
The raptors appear to have had enough, and they move quickly back into the grasses to flee from the combat. They move very quickly and disappear into the tall grasses a short distance away. Even Meranus with his height cannot spot exactly where they have gone. He sees a bit of grass move, but he cannot tell if that is the raptors or just the wind.
A moment later there is another ear-piercing screech, this time from the opposite direction. This time it is Ellie that finds herself in a flurry of wings, claws, and sharp teeth. Three more raptors have dropped down right next to Ellie and they slash at her with claws, small arms, and snapping teeth right through the edge of the rock. One claw slices through her mid-section and she feels like her insides may fall out from the deep slash (6 damage). As she moves and attempts to dodge the blows, one sharp tooth slices into her upper arm as well (2 damage). Amazingly she manages to move around the rest of the attacks and despite the number of claws and teeth, none other strike her.
The smell of smoke starts to get more constant as the fire continues to burn behind the group.

Faust turns around wide-eyed and surprised, "What the...? What's wrong with these things? They don't fear the fire and smokes?!", he loads his crossbow and aims at one of the raptors, but the smoke, illusion and the critter's movements make hitting it a difficult task to say the least, as such he just realizes that he's in the way and retreats to where Yngvar is, constantly looking all over the place to see if there are any more of these blasted geckos.

Ragnarok quickly and nimbly moves through the mass confusion that has become the combat and slips around the new line of raptors. As he passes, the raptor snaps at him, but he is past it before the jaws close. Before the creature can react again, Ragnarok uses a strong kick to the creature's backside. The raptor spins as he hits it and now Ragnarok finds himself facing the creature.
Toregan shakes off his wounds and moves up to face the new raptors next to Ellie. He lunges with his rapier and feels a sharp pain in his leg as he steps forward, letting him know he is not completely healed. The rapier, however, strikes well and he can feel it once again penetrate the tough skin of the dinosaur. Out of the corner of his eyes, Toregan can see the raptor on the dead dinosaur bobbing its head and making noises, apparently calling out to others. He notices the grass moving between the group and the dead dino in a way that cannot be just the wind.
Faust turns in confusion and realizes that he cannot get a clear shot at the raptor in the melee. He moves cautiously and looks out to see where the others have gone, but in the grasses and dust, he cannot see anything else.
Meranus yells at the raptors and quickly moves over to the other side of the battlefield to attack the raptor that Ragnarok had just slipped around. His massive attack quickly dispatches the comparatively small beast. (I was confused by the 4d6 damage. I see the 2d6 from sneak attack, but what is the 2d6 weapon? I thought you were using horns and the gore attack.)
Seeing the incredible number of claws and teeth, Ellie wisely steps back and goes into defensive mode. A light green aura surrounds her as she completes her spell. Rishka turns at the sound of her master and quickly moves back to fight the raptor Toregan had attacked. Her claw slices into the beast, spashing blood on the ground and clearly hurting it. Meanwhile, Raven steps up and sends a wave of pain throughout the area, missing the group, but striking at the raptors. Unfortunately, it does not appear to bother them (Is that right? I don't think any cleric can switch back and forth from channeling positive to negative energy).
Yngvar steps with his rock further away from the growing flames and wonders why the debris has not cleared. It has started to thin, and the wind is certainly having an effect. The dust is light and is taking some time to fall from the air completely.
The raptors once again turn and quickly disappear into the tall grass. (Sorry to lose the great AOO Ragnarok, you would have gotten it, but the one you would have gotten is already dead, so there's that. R8 can move diagonally away from you to avoid the AOO). However, as soon as those disappear, a new group of them appear jumping into place right next to Rishka! They slash and tear at her, but only one manages to make a small bite in her right thigh (4 damage). All their other attacks just bounce off her fur harmlessly.
The fire continues to burn and spread. A gust of wind blows the thick smoke very close to Ragnarok, and Meranus momentarily disappears into a large cloud of smoke (Fort Save, please, DC 15, or spend the next round choking and coughing with no other actions. Gain the concealment condition). Raven notices that the wind has started to pick up in advance of the approaching storm.

It's been 30-40 seconds since the stampede, is the dust and debris not getting blown away by the wind or falling out of the air on its own yet?

With the gust of wind the blistering heat of the flames becomes very obvious for Ragnarök... he turns to face his Minotaur friend when suddenly he sees the big bully disappear in smoke...
"Get out of here you big bully!" Rag says and while moving from T16 to U16 he grabs through the smoke to get hold of Meranus to help him getting out of the smoke (just in case he misses his Fort Save) ... Ragnarök moves further north until he stands face to face with the new banquet of Raptor pest...
Facing R0 he lashes out with his left elbow hitting AC12... another clumsy attack makes it painfully clear to the monk that his attacks are not precise enough still... not the best moment to realise this of course.
