Crescent Atoll -- Jim C Sunday August 12th, 2012 3:19:42 PM
As the group closes on the inner beach of the atoll, several notice the wrecked hulls of ships that tried to navigate this area and then several more lifeboats that also perished amongst the outlying reef--which is odd since manuevering through the open reef to the scant beach that is visible, isn't difficult at all. Rowing across the deep dark blue interior of the atoll the group arrives on the beach and it becomes apparent that this entire area will be submerged with the incoming tide. Precautions must be made for the dinghys lest they float away. Up the steep cliff side, there are several large flat areas to camp, however, the wind is noticieably strong and any tents that may be erected will have to be secured very well.
It will be dark in approximately one hour. The tide is coming in.

After casting a Taur's Try to boost his survival skills, Zeoll, with his low light vision, looks at the beach before the party lands, looking for tracks. After going ashore, he continues to circle around, scanning the ground.
Survival to track: 30, 27, 19.
He also uses his scent ability to sense if anything has been by this place in the last few hours.
Jim: If there had been any evidence of the kids, tracks, etc... they've long been washed away.

Once on shore & Zeoll has given the all clear, Restlin bounds up the shore. "With all these shipwrecks, maybe someone already made a good shelter here. If not, we can always get to the high ground and spend the night in my rope trick again. I'm not sure how easy it will be to build a decent shelter in an hour under these conditions.
"Why were there so many shipwrecks, anyway? I know I'm a natural when it comes to sea-captaining, but that was an easy row onto shore."

After a few moments with his feet on solid land Beri's stomach feels a little better. He takes an ioun torch from his pocket and sets it lose above his head to provide a little extra light. The elf then surveys the shipwrecks from a distance trying to determine if they actually were damaged by the terrain or whether they were attacked. If you were a giant gold fish and saw those life boats would you let your dessert get away? Anyway, I think the first thing we need to do is take two minutes to tie up the boats well above the high tide water line... preferable one of our stronger players.
Perception (viewing wrecks)=32 Perception (safe place for boats)=20
ooc: can you define "secured well" for the tents? Would having Bosk step on the stakes to push them in be enough (1,400 pounds of force hitting the stakes from a metal horse shoe), or are we making a specific DC check staying up there?
Bosk AC: 29/14/26 CMD:23 HP 64 of 64 Spells Monday August 13th, 2012 3:03:24 PM
Bosk takes a moment to take in his surroundings a bit better. One of the first things we need to do is secure the boat. When the tide comes in this entire place will be under water, so we will need to do more than pull it a little ways on shore. The damaged boats in the cove indicate to me that either the tide can drop significantly and the ships got damaged on reefs too deep for us to see at this time, or there is something in these water that attacks them when the tide comes in. Given the stories of the giant gold fish I think we need to prepare for the latter. I say we lift the boat out of the water and carry it as far inland as possible, hopefully to an elevation high enough that even with the tide something in nothing will be able to swim up to it and damage it. It should also be tied or anchored to something to prevent it from floating away should the water reach it. Fortunately, if the worst should happen, we have a feather token boat for just such an emergency.
With the darkness closing in we need to make getting to higher ground a top priority. The climb could become difficult as it gets darker, and if the kids made it here they will have needed to seek out higher ground as well. Once we find a safe place to set up camp the children will likely try to head towards our fire if they can see it.
Bosk will ask the others help and attempt to move the boat inland as far as possible and look for a place to anchor it. If nothing can be found he will use his rope and the anchor token to keep the boat secure. (assuming no one objects to using the groups anchor)

He also tries to resist the fear of the dragon. He does so easily with a natural 20.
Zeoll stays alert to use Timely or Gallant Inspiration to help one of his friend's saves.
Zeoll makes a free action knowledge check to know more about this dragon. The DC for such a check "equals 10 + the monster's CR." His Knowledge Arcana check is a 17.
If the Dragon is CR7, Zeoll knows enough to use his bardic archivist naturalist ability, and will do so, to give his friends a +2 bonus on AC, attacks, and saving throws vs the dragon.
If his knowledge is lacking, Zeoll will instead use his Fey Magic ability to cast Calm Emotions on the dragon. Zeoll's penetration check to get past the dragon's magic resistance is a d20+7, or a 26! The dragon has to make a save vs Will DC 23. (Zeoll is using his second Fey Magic because the magic is still and silent, and Zeoll has no desire for the dragon to realize he is the caster!)
Finally, with his move action, Zeoll moves 30 ft away from the group -- far enough that it will be hard to zap the whole group with an area attack, he hopes, but close enough to Timely or Gallantly Inspire his friends.

Realizing that this is going to end badly if the dragon can continue to attack everyone at once Beri also splits up from the group in a direction that will provide a flank while Zeoll casts calm emotion again. Should the spell be successful he will hold off his attack, only if the spell fails does the rogue will let his arrow fly.
ooc: A quick google search makes it looks like I can flank with him in the air (because the line still crosses through the enemy)

In light of Restlin's near death experience, and many more to come for all of you, I would appreciate a table/tracking method of when and how many Hero Points you have on your character sheets, seperate from anything else.
I am not stingy with Hero Points, you guys are supposed to be heroic and take chances that normals do not--hence, why you're out adventuring and not sitting in some shop earning a few gold a day--meaning, you should be getting Hero Points where others are not. However, that being said, I wouldn't drop below 2 Hero Points if you know what's good for ya :)

"I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm tired of being knocked out." The wizard looks around, sees no dragon, and is slightly relieved until his companions fill him in on what's going on.
"There's no cowardice in admitting a fight is too much for you, you know. There are always good causes to throw your life away over, but that doesn't mean you line up as soon as one presents itself."
Restlin then turns to Bosk. "I know you have scrolls that will allow us to speak with Gargul and hopefully resurrect someone should they die, but from what I understand Gargul isn't one to take that request lightly. Would he even entertain it if the person who died volunteered for the privilege?"
Bosk AC: 29/14/26 CMD:23 HP 29 of 64 Spells Tuesday August 21st, 2012 3:33:09 PM
Bosk stops Zeoll before he heals any of the group. He said no healing.
To Restlin he replies, Gargul is not an evil and heartless god. He is the god of Life as well as death. As long as we are not animating a souless corpse like a zombie or placing someone's soul in an object like a that sword we found it should be fine.
Unless you have an idea, I don't think even with the dragon's generous conditions that I could beat him in a one on one fight, but I am willing to die that you may help the children. Although only I can use our scrolls to raise party members from the dead, I do have a chit that any of us can use when we get back to the city. I will volunteer to be killed if you all promise to resurrect me when we return to the city.
If the group agrees to try to resurrect him he will give them his equipment before yelling. Dragon, I will fight you in combat that my friends may live and save the children. We have no intention of harming the goldfish.

OOC: Sorry, James, but looking over the two sheets, I gotta give the nod to Wyaar as actually having a chance. Self-heal and invisible as move actions. Fly above and archer specials to boot. Apply Chr bonus to AC or attacks or damage (or mix all three) beats your kayleb bonus six to one. HP and AC are just about a wash. If Bosk could darkwalk, snipe, and sneak attack, maybe, but that's not for several levels yet, and you got crap for stealth anyway. Wyaar could maybe pull it out.
Bosk AC: 29/14/26 CMD:23 HP 29 of 64 Spells Tuesday August 21st, 2012 5:28:25 PM

Bosk fully expects to die if he faces the dragon, but his honor wouldn't allow him to let the kids die or to not volunteer if another so new to the group is willing to face the dragon. I feel volunteering fits his character and such a battle / death would be an honor. If the group chooses Wyaar Bosk will concede the honor to him, but but no one will be able to say the taur was afraid or unwilling to sacrifice himself.

I'm not saying I was whipped or anything, but you know, I'd rather be happy than right--and with a female, that's about the best you can hope for.
Anyways, long story short, I need help of a wizard to cast a greater dispel magic on her. I can't go to Hook City or those wizard bastards there would dissect me, so I need your help to acquire something that will remove that polymorph spell on her. You are a wizard, right? Cause, you know, you dress like one." }
Mages Blood -- Jim C Thursday August 23rd, 2012 2:13:55 AM
Careful examination does show a smattering of blood in the sand, but it's so mixed up with sand, debris, miniscule foreign aquatic life and with the incoming tide, that it would be a miracle to be able to use it for a ressurection.

"Wait a minute. You killed me! Why would you do that? My friends and I are heroes, Mr. Dragon. We saved Hook City from a zombie apocalypse and stopped the wholesale slaughter of it's citizens from a whole host of bad guys. Reuniting a lost love by ending a wizard's curse is right up our alley.
"Something's not adding up." Restlin looks around. "I'm not in much of a position to argue though, am I?"
If he's able, Restlin will stand and stretch. "Very well, Mr. Dragon. I'll help."
"Why a greater dispel, though? Greater dispels will dispel multiple spells. Did this wizard do something other than polymorph your love? Is she a dragon too? Polymorphing a dragon takes serious power. That will be tough to dispel. Can I see her? Maybe I can get a feel for the magic that's affecting her."

We should heal up and begin our search for the children. Time if of the essence. Our best hope of saving Restlin is to find the kids quickly and orove our intent to the dragon. The liontaur also wonders how big is the entire island, along its longest dimension might be. He tries to get a good idea of that.
Zeoll thinks back on that dragon and uses his Memory Subdomain power. Knowledge check 35. Did that dragon have spell resistance? How old was it?

As the group makes camp, the winds seem to die down and it looks like the weather will cooperate tonight and give the group a bit of relief. Examining the straight razor Zeoll gives him, Bosk finds no trace of blood on it. Thinking upon it, the liontaur is pretty sure that the dragon in question was a young adult of his kind and only something magical of the razor's size could have penetrated his armor--this being nonmagical, it didn't stand a chance of harming him.

"I may be flighty and crack a lot of stupid jokes, but I'm no fool. You're just going to have to trust me. As for the fish, we don't need to capture it. There's not a lot I know about it to be honest. I'll find out what it's like with the rest of you."
Zeoll (HP47 of 49, AC23, CMD15) Friday September 7th, 2012 1:32:13 PM
Zeoll wonders what the group has gotten itself into ... but he is already planning to prepare Locate Creature for tomorrow to help find the fishie. "We do have those waterr brreathing potions handy, rright?" he asks in general.
Bosk AC: 29/14/26 CMD:23 HP 29 of 64 Spells Friday September 7th, 2012 3:25:25 PM
The Cleric nods. I thought about using them when the dragon showed up, but figured it would be like bobbing for apples to him.
ooc: I emailed Jim. If he isn't able to post I will make a DM post tonight and run things until he is nack on his feet.
Zane Stormfront AC 27 CMD 23 HP 43/63 Friday September 7th, 2012 3:33:28 PM
Zane looks around at the others, "It seems that one way or the other we are tied to the Dragon, almost as closely as I myself am tied to the Dragon in my families past. Restlin, I'll ask nothing further about whatever deal was crafted between you and him, just please let it not break our honor, that might cause problems." After a minute or so Zane yells down the hole. "Did you get in there along the shore, or down from atop the cliff? It will help us find the entrance, so we can get you back home safely."
Restlin (Carl) -- AC: 17/14/15 CMD: 15 HP: 50/50 (Spells) Friday September 7th, 2012 4:06:04 PM
The wizard smiles broadly at Zane. "You all worry too much. We came to rescue some kids and see about a goldfish and I've already been torn to pieces by a dragon in the process. How can it possible get any worse?"
Restlin waits to see what the kids have to say for themselves, adding only "and do you have any idea how worried your parents are?"
Toby and Rachel -- Jim C Friday September 7th, 2012 7:17:17 PM "Hey, you still up there? comes the irritated voice of a young male from the lava tube. "We're freezing down here, so make it quick, whatever you're going to do!"
After a little discussion, the group finds out that Toby and Rachel were indeed stowaways and when they arrived at the atoll, the ship had been struck by lightning. Yet, they remark on how there was no storm clouds to be seen. They had been below decks when the ship was sunk in the lagoon and barely made it out when a large goldfish, bigger than the 30' scooner they were on, swallowed them whole. But it didn't keep them swallowed, it spit them out in an underwater cave in the lagoon they think. it's dark anf cold and there's nothing to eat, so Toby makes it quite apparent that he wants rescuing, and quick!
Sorry for my absence guys, I'm still a little sick, but able to think right now at least :)
Restlin (Carl) -- AC: 17/14/15 CMD: 15 HP: 50/50 (Spells) Friday September 7th, 2012 9:33:06 PM
"You sit down there in the dark and cold and think about what you've done, young man! We'll be there to get you out in a bit," the wizard cries out.
To the rest of the Iron Adventurers, "Well, looks like we use those water breathing potions to look for a way in, eh? Hopefully we'll find a way out that doesn't involve drowning. Is the tide in or out? Darned if I can tell. We may want to wait until it goes out if it's in..."

Good to have ya back, Jim!
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:23/16/16 HP: 62/62 CMD = 23 (hero point spent) Saturday September 8th, 2012 9:39:45 PM By any chance do you know how deep you were or which direction the entrance was at? Are we standing close to the entrance?
Toby and Rachel -- Jim C Sunday September 9th, 2012 4:10:41 AM "You talking to me? Cause I know you're not talking to me, cause I told you I was in a fishes mouth." Yells back Toby.
Wyaar (JonL) AC 27/17/22 CMD 23 HP 36/62 Sunday September 9th, 2012 9:13:13 AM
"Maybe we can find a way to just get Rachel out?" Wyaar asks his companions with a grin and a shake of his head. That damn Toby indeed.
"Would it be possible for Bosk to take his jaunt down to the kids and tell us how far down it is and then dimensional door down?"
Bosk AC: 29/14/26 CMD:23 HP 29 of 64 Spells Sunday September 9th, 2012 2:14:30 PM
Bosk suddenly feels something strange happening to the nature Gargul's powers, and wonders if he is still able to cast ethereal jaunt.
ooc: I am sending an email to Jim. The domains were changed for Gargul a while back, but the wikki was just updated this week and Gargul lost the Shadow Domain which contains Ethereal Jaunt. I need to make sure I can still cast Ethereal Jaunt and pick new domains for Bosk.
Zane Stormfront AC 27 CMD 23 HP 43/63 Monday September 10th, 2012 7:36:58 PM
Zane picks up another pebble and casts light on it, giving him a light source. "We may as well start heading towards the cove, I expect the entrance will be guarded by this giant gold fish. We may as well see if we can find the opening, we won't get any sleep tonight it seems."
Beriothian (Will)-- AC:23/16/16 HP: 62/62 CMD = 23 (hero point spent) Monday September 10th, 2012 8:29:25 PM I assume that means that the entrance is facing the sound the ocean waves, and that that's the only way in our out...
Bosk AC: 29/14/26 CMD:23 HP 29 of 64 Spells Monday September 10th, 2012 9:00:35 PM Wait a second, let me use my spell to travel down there and see if I can get a better idea of where the tunnel comes out and drop some food off for the kids. The cleric begins praying and moving his hands...but nothing happens. The spell didn't work. It is as Gargul is no longer supporting the use of the spell.
As the group turns to leave Zane picks up the a pebble and casts his light spell on it. Suddenly the cleric is blinded by the searing light and everything around him goes black. I'm blind! The cleric gasps as the wold around him disappears into the shadows.
Bosk AC: 29/14/26 CMD:23 HP 29 of 64 Spells Monday September 10th, 2012 9:19:48 PM
Some time passes and the minotaurs eyes begin to focus on the shadows around him, his eyes aching with the dull pain on someone overworking muscles they never use. Not blinded he thinks, I can no longer see in the dark. Somehow he senses that Gargul has evolved, shifting the focus of his domains slightly and leaving a hole in the cleric himself. He can feel the need to understand his patron deity better gnawing at him, his obsession with the shadow realm shifting to other aspects of Gargul's Nature. His mind is pulled in several directions, the urge to travel, to unravel the secretes of the darkness, part of him on the verge of some hither to unknown insight into the unknown...but he doesn't dwell on any of them too long. Some innate part of his being knows that if he lingers too long on one it will forever plant itself in his mind, changing the very nature of of his magic and his very being.
ooc: The deity pages were just updated with more current domains. If your character benefits from the use of domains, please check to see if the changes effect you. Currently I believe only Bosk has selected a domain his deity lost, but I will be double checking character sheets over the next two days.
Restlin (Carl) -- AC: 17/14/15 CMD: 15 HP: 50/50 (Spells) Monday September 10th, 2012 10:09:13 PM
Restlin watches as Bosk undergoes his meta-metamorphosis (ooc: zing!). When things calm down, he pipes up. "Since we obviously can't just leave the kids for a few hours to get some rest, let's go find the entrance to that cave. Hopefully we can talk the fish into letting them out. Hopefully...I'm not sure if she's intelligent or not. Does anyone speak fish? Interesting language, aquan. Pity I don't speak a word of it."
Restlin will begin making his way towards the sea & hopes his friends follow. This show needs to get on the road.
Zeoll (HP47 of 49, AC23, CMD15) Monday September 10th, 2012 11:33:53 PM
"I can talk to fishies. They may orr not talk back!" Zeoll says with a grin.
