Ellie has Rishka circle the large beast as she tells Toregan to see to the dino. Meranus steps up to the beast and watches the grasslands. He sees some of the grasses move near him, and it doesn't appear to be the wind, but he does not catch sight of any of the rators. Ragnarok looks around as well and notices the flames crackling along. He thinks he might have heard the squawking of the raptors off to the west, but he isn't quite sure.
Yngvar also mentions the fire burning on the grasslands. They are still a good 50 feet from the creature, but the wind is lightly pushing the flames and smoke towards the group. The sound of thunder can be heard off in the distance and you can see the huge thunderclouds still building as the wind starts to pick up a little with the approaching storm.

As he does, he hears the not so distant clap of thunder. [b]"It might be a good idea to take this dino into the jungle. Keep it away from the fire and slightly drier when the storm hits at least. Or we could do what Yngvar suggested and make a firebreak here. We should also grab the raptor corpses. Yngvar is doing too much talking to notice anything but the magnificence of his rock illusion., which probably explains his poor ability to judge the wind speed.

Toregan starts quickly and efficiently skinning the dinosaur. He sees that the sharp claws of the raptors did indeed slice up a good portion of the skin of the beast, but there are still smaller parts he can easily harvest. Ellie helps him and searches for the long, strong sinews. Ragnarok watches Toregan slices and looks outward to the grasses when he sees a raptor running past the group, a good distance from the dead dinosaur. The raptor was running from south to north, around 75 feet from the group.
Yngvar moves the rock illusion around to the northeast of the dinosaur. He looks over at the dinosaur and calls out a suggestion to Meranus, who appears to be ready to get out of this area quickly.
Faust sees the same raptor as he starts to gather up grass for the firebreak. As he pulls the grass out, it breaks in his hands so he has a very small pile ready to burn. Meranus points out that the raptors are still circling -- well, the ones that are not stuck to his still gigantic horns. Raven stops and shows Faust a better way to set up the fire break. She sees that the fire is still growing and will be upon the group soon. A fire break can be started, and that will slow it, but clearly the fire will eventually circle around them and engulf the dinosaur completely... if the rainstorm doesn't arrive first...

The winds continue to blow and everyone can smell the burning grasses and smoldering meat from the previous dead raptors.
Meranus finally pulls the dead raptor from his horns and starts swinging it around, approaching the surrounding grasses where he saw another raptor running around. He yells again at Toregan to hurry up as he watches the surrounding area. Toregan continues expertly cutting into the dead creature and quickly manages a small pile of usable sinew. Ragnarok steps up near Toregan and stands guard as best he can, looking out and around. He sees more grasses move off to the north and thinks maybe he spotted a raptor running from east to west there.
Meanwhile, Raven and Faust work to get the fire break going. As the break is lit, a large gust of wind blows the thick, black smoke over the entire party for a moment (Everyone: Fort Save, DC 10, or spend the next round choking and coughing with no other actions). The fire continues to burn, but it looks as if the fire break will hold it back from approaching, at least from the south. There is a loud crack of thunder off in the distance and the wind starts blowing harder. As the group starts off away from the massive dead dinosaur, a large amount of smoke blows towards the party, but the strength of the wind blows it beyond the group quickly and easily. The grassfire is strengthened by the wind and starts crackling louder as the flames burn up the firebreak and continue to spread across the ground. The only escape from the flames is to the north.
Meranus walks around the fallen beast and leads the group away from the flames. He watches carefully into the grasses, but spots none of the prior raptors. Ellie and Toregan step down from the back of the dinosaur and quickly follow with Rishka behind. Faust moves and looks outward with his crossbow at the ready, hoping to get in one more shot before the group leaves. In the wind and smoke, he doesn't see any sign of the raptors, but Ragnarok calls out where he has spotted them.
Meanwhile, at the rear, Yngvar continues the illusion of the rock, trailing along with the group. As the group steps away from the giant dinosaur, Yngvar hears a loud SNAP right behind him as a raptor takes a chomp at the air where he had just been standing, only to quickly move away from him and into the smoky grasses.

So even assuming a 45 degree spread (not realistic with the wind pushing) we should have easily cleared the eastern edge of where the fire would likely burn.
"This sucks guys, the raptors have somehow managed to see through the illusion. Not sure how many yet, but at least one came through the illusion to take a bite out to try and take a bite out of me. I'm going to keep it up since I hope not all have seen been able to see through the trick."
Yngvar can't help wondering to himself if there might be a druid around waking animals to intelligence. Any base animal should have been dumbfounded by the giant rock, even with it moving. The group moves quickly and easily away from the fire and the smoke. Raven sends Ra up to take a look around. The bird sees the fire and smoke, but does not spot any other enemies at the moment.
As the group heads back across the grasslands, they clear the smoke and fire and the strong wind is refreshing. A few hundred yards from the edge of the grasslands, the sky darkens and the clouds explode with a crack of thunder and the rain starts pelting down, large drops with even a few smaller balls of hail falling from the sky. There is no sign of the raptors or anything else by this time.
(I tried to be consistent with the smoke and fire and wind. It was all moving south to north and basically going to engulf the dead dino eventually from all sides. Any other actions anyone wants to take before heading back up to the outpost?)

"Thanks for the lift!" Yngvar gets his feet set on one shoulder and stands with one hand griping a base of Meranus' horn.
"I think I can see my house from up here."

"Anyone seen Nathanial?", Ragnarök asks his new companions, "The bags we brought were quite valuable... at least someone was willing to pay well for the content... Raven on the other hand is quite grouchy about the blasted rain again...
"GRRMPGFF.... that's the second time in two days we're soaked... " and without further talking Raven tries to take cover under the trees...
As they make their way to the outpost Raven remains to herself mumbling incomprehensible mumbo jumbo what could very well be a prayer to Gargul for all you know.

Toregan trudges through the rain and hail, already used to the feeling of the frequent downpours. Hearing Rag's question, he looks around and also notes the loss of the man. "That's odd. I don't think he was with us when we tried to go after the dinos in the first place either. Could he have stayed behind at the trees?"
Going Home Thursday September 20th, 2012 3:11:55 PM
The group walks through the downpour and finds that the ground here is reliable -- the water pools and runs all around, with various flowing creeks forming here and there throughout the lands. As the group enters the forest, the ground is thick and wet. Every step sinks into the mud and soon everyone is not just soaked, but mud-splattered from stepping and walking, on the entire lower half of their body. The trips soon after the first arrival to this land come back to mind.
As the group plods back towards the lift, the rain continues and the drops hitting the leaves make conversation difficult. Of course, that also makes it hard for other creatures to hear the group plowing through the forest.
When the group arrives back at the lift, the sun starts to peek through and the rain lets up. Riding the lift up, a few more large birds can be spotted far off in the distance. A huge cat appears under the lift and watches the lift rise for a few moments before moving on. The lift manages to make it back to the top of the plateau without event and the group breathes a sigh of relief as they make their way back to safety, even if they are soaked and covered with dark mud. Fortunately, most of the blood from the battle was washed off by the torrential rains.

After that split, I may have something like 3-400g. Not enough to do worry about the catacombs. And we haven't been here long enough for a monthly salary either.

Most of the group decides to head over to the ballista and turn in their hard-won sinew. Ragnarok decides to seek out the administrator. Before the group gets anywhere, Ragnarok spots Nathanial who is coming to meet them. Nathanial says, "The time has come for me to go. I need to be heading back to the float to see to a few things that have come up. Personal things. If there are any of you that need to be heading back, this would be the time to go. With me."
You can see the tops of the clouds down in the valley and the wet storm is still vivid in your mind. There's no sign of the storm heading up the plateau, at least not any time soon. It is beyond mid-day and the sun has begun it's descent towards the horizon. You will still have plenty of time to make it to the ballista sight before dinner time after speaking with Nathanial.

OOC: Around 4/16/12 there was an encounter with flying raptors, not sure if it was enough to generate XP. After the cythnigots, there was significant conversation regarding the loot to that point, but no decisions were reached. At this point, some of the mundane gear has been claimed, Yngvar has the potions given to him by Gazzy, and Rexxan claimed a magic mace, properties not yet identified. And today is not Yngvar's day to figure it out, maybe tomorrow (Spellcraft 14), assuming Rexxan didn't take the mace with him when he went awol.
On 4/30/12 we were attacked by a raptor while loading the wood, and on 5/9 received xp (this was the last xp received). On 6/1/12 we set an ambush for 3 raptors, combat ended 6/14/12 On 7/24/12 we were attacked by 2 xtabay and an assassin vine, then almost a half dozen more xtabay's, combat ending 8/3/12. On 8/29/12 we had the stampede to deal with (is that considered an encounter?) Then we had at least 3 more raptors to deal with.
So I count three significant events for which exp has not been awarded.

Nathanial nods to Ellie and Raven and says, "Very well, I would be glad of your company on my return." He goes with Ellie, Raven, and Toregan to Pen to straighten out the details.
Faust, Ragnarok and Meranus head directly to the inn to rest. As they enter, they notice a few new faces in the tavern including another minotaur -- but one without horns!
Checking on the module: The 1,300 xp is for the small raptor nest, the vines, and the larger group of raptors, I believe. Turning in the items you stripped from the first raptor group nets you 36 gp, and the items from the giant dino earns you 116 more gold.
(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 14/14/12 -- CMD 12 -- HP 16/16 Monday September 24th, 2012 7:22:53 PM
Doesn't make sense for the 1160 xp awarded on 5/9 to be for events that occurred afterwards. The raptors were 6/14, and the vines were 8/3. Or did one of our DM's mess up and give us exp really early?
DM post on XP Monday September 24th, 2012 8:21:14 PM
Modules are broken into scenes, generally XP is given at the conclusion of each scene and does not necessarily coincide with are bear direct relation to combat. The nature of play can also cause shifts in encounters and possibly additional encounters to a module. Cthonia, has been a prime example of such as our player base shrank and expanded post module creation. XP is really created and parsed across a module with overall advancement in mind for the pace of the game and not calculated against traditional straight encounter. I would be happy to explain further if anyone wants to, but would like to do so off board mikalus30@gmail.com Co Dm Dan K thanks all

Sitting at the Bar is a tall and thin human looking female with waist length blond hair and steel blue eyes Dresses in patch work clothing and a travel stained cloak, her shoes are mismatched and look to have holes in them. She would look very beutiful if not for the clothing and the dirt that cover her She seams to be in her mid 20's and has the look of someone that has been on the road for a very long time. The smile on her face makes her very friendly and inviting.
Jorge (Asteron) AC 18/11/16 -- CMD 20 -- HP 31/31 Monday September 24th, 2012 10:22:41 PM
Standing at the bar not too far from the blue-eyed blonde, a figure of eight and three quarter feet in height looks at the world through inquisitive, dark eyes, set in a strong, black, minotaurian face. Below the face, a gray-green cloak of linen hides most of the body, with the exception of two cloven hooves, obsidian black, trimmed, and well-polished. Above the face, and hiding part of it, a wide-brimmed heavy felt hat of gray.
He calls whoever is tending the bar, and asks with a polite tone: "a bottle of your best wine, if you please. And a goblet, the largest you have". He thought better of it, and added, "and a roast capon or three, lots of potatoes, preferably boiled, and vegetables. I am famished!"
There is something unusual about the figure. Something that is not quite right. Oh, yes! How could that have been overlooked? The minotaur has no horns!

"Who are the noobs? The chick would probably be cute, after a bath." Nodding to the other 'taur, "firend of Meranus?" Yngvar doesn't wait for a response before ordering the cook's special and a pitcher of ale. "Oh what the hell, put a round for those two on my tab."

Once he's back from the bath, now mud-free, he joins Yngvar at his table, though with his eyes still glued to the newcomers in an intrigued and curious manner. Toregan delivers the sinew to some men working with large chunks of trees. They haven't made a lot of progress, but they are hopeful. Pen mentions that it is more of the same here -- some people leaving his employ and a few others taking their place. He mentions two that will likely be found at the inn that have entered his employ and will likely be able to help the group with their next tasks: one Asteron and Griffin.

Those gathered notice that Asteron prefers wine to ale and mead, but that he does not refuse to drink whatever offered or whatever others are partaking of. He seems politely distant at first, but after a few rounds he appears to be quite at ease with all. So much so, in fact, that he insists of paying for a few rounds himself, insisting on the best wine (or ale, if there is no wine) that the house has to offer. He remains standing, but that is in deference to the flimsy (for a minotaur) chairs in the place... no sense in destroying one and having to pay for it.
"Why am I here? Well, if one does not know where one is going, any place is as good as another, no? But the truth is that I am paying an honor debt. That I will settle first, and then I will see if this is the place for me or not." The answer is cryptic, but then his newly found companions are exactly that, newly found. Sharing his innermost turmoil would not do right now. "So, I find myself indirectly employed by a Mr. Randolph, through a gnome with a tongue-twisting name that is easier to call Pen, until further developments change things. That is the gist of it. The rest is a tale for another place, and another time".

Still, he does not even flinch. The minotaur knows well that such skills may prove very useful in a bind.
Then Meranus comes in, and pokes him in the chest, twice. Not only that, but he also directs attention to his lack of horns. Yet, the wine and ale have mellowed him out somehow, so he says with a wry smile, "Alas, I wish it was an illusion, but no. What you see is what I am". Then, turning to face Meranus he says in Minotaur, with a pang of pain in his voice that only a minotaur would detect... and understand. "I was born without horns." That summed up his life in five short words that hid an ocean full of pain.

Ellie and Raven have both gone to speak with Pen and others about the Post with Ragnarok's companion Nathanial. The intention of the smaller band is to leave for Floating City soon.
The owner operator of the Inn, Haggard, is the only other person in the Tavern currently. His daughter Hope, apparently is out. It is still a couple hours before the dinner hour and the rest of the Trading Post's pernament residence are busy with thier own lives.
Haggard comes from around the bar and deposits another round of drinks, a dark porter in earthenware mugs. One of the Brewer Bast's specialities. "Easy on the wine friend taur, there is only one other bottle for sale in the entire place." Haggard picks up some empties, wipes a spot on the table, "Waiting for the meat to hit the fires or do you want to start in now?" he asks the table at large
At the word of meat, the lion stretched out in front of the fire lifts its head to gaze over at the big man. Haggard ignores the cat, and it resumes its nap.

Haggard chuckles across the bar
The door opens and several from the post arrive for early drinks and to unwind a bit at the end of their day. Bast, Risca, Nudge and Patterson all enter essentially together and talking among themselves. The subject, Patterson's ballista design and the general feeling of good will and minor admiration for what the party has already accomplished.

As the Patterson congratulates the party, Faust turns to them and says, "I'm sure am glad that the skin was enough...we went through a miniature version of hell to get it...not sure if everyday here is quite as jolly, but it was way more than I expected...which does bring me to a small question: is there any report of a druid or sentient reptile race around...or maybe folk tales that could be interpreted as such?"

"Meranus, that lass looks to have a crush on you, better count your fingers, make sure she didn't swipe one."
Yngvar decides that before anything else happens he better get started on dinner. Between bites Yngvar informs those he has been working with "a little more cash and I can start making some gear for us. After those near death experiences with the lightning and fire I was thinking of a cloak i heard about, pretty popular among adventurer's I had heard. It gives the wearer just a little help in avoiding bodily harm."
After his meal, Yngvar heads over to the market to unload a few of the items the group has collected.
"how much for this platinum ring and ivory case?"
Appraise=25 for platinum ring and ivory case found in raptor nest 6/15/12.

I think that should do it for now." Yngvar hands over 127 gold, 32 copper.
The Trading Post Inn Settled Bets Tuesday October 2nd, 2012 10:40:44 PM
Griffin and Meranus hash out the bet and as the woman brings up the possible destruction of the table, several notice that Haggard is still simply smiling himself. Apparently quite amused at it all. Griffin though concedes and buys a round for the house. Haggard gives her a once up and down, "We'll keep it just to the table I think, 2gp."
The Halfling Patterson nods at Faust, "Indeed it shall. So we should be expecting your company to remain then?" His brow furrows slightly and it is not well hidden that the small old man is not fond of the idea.
Risca the grizzled grey bearded dwarf snorts and spits to the ground and turns back to his mug of beer at a different table
Nudge an older gnome that came in with Patterson and Risca wrinkles his nose and calls Patterson over, who does so without pause.
Bast looks up at the question on druids and lizard folk and chuckles, "You are new, practically shiny still. If it's one thing Cthonia has plenty of is smart lizards and folks calling themselves druids. Like asking if we get rain drow." Bast starts laughing and a couple others join in until Haggard silences the lot of them by setting a clean wooden mug down extra hard. "Enough of that now, he's got Pen's backin' and so that is that."
"You want stories of the such, you best speak with Gazzy. She knows likely the most, except for maybe Borcht and Klairiest. But talking to one of those two is as much fun as being tied up in a room of raptors."
Griffin exits the Inn with no particular destination in mind nor is there any particular place one might go really.
Yngvar gets to eating and then gets to shopping. As he pulls out the ivory case, he hears a rattle inside it. The platinum band seems rather plain, perhaps 20gp in value simply because it is the rarer metal. Hitting the General store, Yngvar has no trouble securing the supplies in question.
Lerangis, however does shoe him out at the end of his transaction, calling for her two girls Polly and Anna to close up and meet her at the inn for dinner.
The entire trading post, all 18 residents and 3 extra guests, Nathanial, Artrius, an elf rescued some days ago calling himself Lake, are soon at the Inn enjoying dinner.

And then dinner arrives, and in enough quantities to keep him content. He nods approvingly, and between mouthfuls he raises his goblet towards the barman in appreciation of the meal.

"As for smart reptiles...it's not really smart as 'the dino ambushed me' but more like...hmmm...'military-like training fearless smart', the situation being that they were more interested in half a dozen of humanoids instead of big chunky delicious herbivores and were willing to literally go through fires and flames to get said humanoids."
"I know fully well that very few studies have been made in this region and it's entirely possible that these lizards even have a language of their own...hell, it's one the reasons I'm here! Still, those raptors were too suspiciously smart to not be some at least some sort of 'trained hounds' for someone...didn't look like nature at its work, not to mention other unrelated but about as suspicious events which make me suspicious of druid presence around here", he finishes his drink and gets up.
"Gazzy, Borcht and Klairiest, eh? Not sure about being tied in a room with raptors, but it can't be worse than being in the middle of stampede with murderous raptors and fire..."
As he is leaving, he hears Asteron's question and turns for a last reply, [b]"It's actually very simple, mr. Faust too has no reason to leave as Gazzy, Borcht and Klairiest are all at a table, or more specifically, Borcht and Klairiest are at a table by themselves and Gazzy is sitting with Pen, his family, Artrius, Natahanial and the elf called Lake Nudge, Patterson Rexxann and Risca are at a different table with Bast and his daughter and Lerganis and her two daughters. The party at a fourth table and Hope and Haggard serving the whole place.
Small talk is traded about, Several druid circles are known to be in the Cthonia jungle and grasslands. One specific group sets itself against the big game hunters, explorers and even some Monstrologers on a regular basis, but generally not overly violent.
As to the intelligence of the raptors, because of some group training them, none believe that to be so. Just about every story of any who have encountered any of the lizard kind in Cthonia have spoken of their apparent abilities to puzzle and reason beyond animal kind. From the pterydons that use rocks to dive bomb travelers to one story where a triceratops was digging a ditch trap, everyone has several examples.
Those newly joining the group at the post also learn that they are here to ensure the safety and integrity of the Trading Post. There have been issues in the past with other adventurers, hunters and rogue elements running roughshod over the residents. All of them have stories of blackmail, extortion and plain theft at the hands such folks.
There is also another settlement on a mesa about 20 miles north on the other side of the river simply known as Town. A rough and lawless community where might makes right.
Several tribes of kobolds call the jungles home. All are dangerous, most use toxins and some are said to worship the greater dinosaurs.
Nathanial takes a moment to assure Crow that he will see his fair share from their earlier expedition. He has a line on things and before he leaves in a day or two, he expects to be handing Crow a nice sum of Gold. Ragnarok learns the elf was rescued from one of the aforementioned kobold tribes. he and a few others were held and were being flayed alive and served. Lake says nothing throughout the evening, this information comes from others in the party as they were his rescuers only a few days ago.
The evening wears on, and the younger crowd is sent towards beds, Lerganis's girls, Polly and Anna, Bast's son, Toth, Haggards daughter Hope and Pen with his entire family. Lake and Artrius retire as well and soon after that Rexxann and Patterson return to the chapel
Risca, the dwarf, Nudge the gnome, Borcht and his sister Klairiest and Bast push several tables together. With a nod to Haggard, Bast states, "Now we can take out the good stuff and have ourselves a right proper celebration."
With that, Haggard produces a pair of 10 gallon casks of Basts Dragon Porter and Triple stout.

"Huh? How did I not notice these when we found them?, Oh well, I know how we can make use of them. So how much for the ivory case?"
After his haggling at the shop, Yngvar returns to the Inn in time for the evening meals. Sitting down at his usual table, with his back in the corner where he can keep an eye on the room. "A pitcher of ale, and a plate please." Pulling several small packets from his haversack, he sets them on the table before him. Calling his companions Torregan and Meranus over, he slides a couple of the packets across to each. "I sold off some of the junk we collected. These are your shares, there's 173 gold, 7 silver, and 1 copper in there for each of you."[/d] Yngvar then pulls out the ring, [b]"this is magic, it will make it harder for you to be hit in combat. I hope you agree with me Torregan, I think that Meranus would benefit the most from this. I also identified a wand that can heal, but none of us could use it, if you don't mind, I'll hold onto it until we can figure out a solution. I also still have a couple of daggers, one silver the other cold iron. Those properties can be of much value in certain situations, Torregan, I think you could make the most use of them. And Meranus, we have a pair of cold iron longswords, you can keep them in your magic bag. There may come a time when they will be needed. What say you?"
Yngvar slides another packet between the three of them, "this has Ellie's share, but she has already left the post. Send it after her or split it between us?"
After he has concluded that business with Torregan and Meranus, Yngvar calls over Faust and Ragnarok. He slides another paid of packets to each, "your shares of our endeavors these last few days. 21 gold, 7 silver, and 1 copper each. I also have the shares for Ellie and Raven, but they have already left the post. Send it after them, or split it between us?"
yes, Yngvar has taken on the roll of group treasurer... Any loot too heavy for him to hold onto he will disperse until someone comes up with a better idea.
(Pedro) Faust Havler Tavir'e AC 18/14/14 -- CMD 16 -- HP 18/18 -- Bombs 9/9 Thursday October 4th, 2012 12:16:40 PM
Faust listens carefully to all the stories, and finds it fascinating and disturbing that all of the dinos seem to have some sort of greater cunning in the place; perhaps there is some sort of primal or random magic in the area? Perhaps there are more druid covenants than known? Or, the worst of all, may the dinosaurs be intelligent without any sort of aid and researchers, Faust himself included, have just been underestimating them as mere 'beasts'. All questions that he makes sure to note down and keep in mind...it would be a terrific book!
Faust postpones his leave as Griffin mentions she wants to speak to him solo, listening to the proposition with a degree of curiosity and intrigue, to which he replies with discretion, "Typical...you small ears see a drow, and an alchemist to booth and assume he knows his poisons....tsk...", he pouts.
But quickly smirks and chuckles a bit and follows up: "I'm kidding...can you imagine? A drow who doesn't know poison? That's like a minotaur without hor-...", he pauses and thinks over the fact that he met one this very day and ponders for a moment on the irony of his phrase, "...erm...anyway...yes, I know how to make them and don't think it'll be a problem to use it against the lizards, still...it's indeed wise to keep things down."
"You got any specific request or any injury-application one will do? Some reagents should be available around the outpost, but without looking at my books, all the ones I can remember need some amount of harvested poison from a plant or animal, which means we'll have to make-do with what's around this place. I've done it myself if I hadn't blew all of my coin getting here in the first place"
Taking 10 on a Knowledge (nature) check to remember if Faust noticed any suitable poisonous plant not too far from the outpost that could be used (+10): 20

After that he listens to all the tales and wonders when someone will do something about what seem to be those pesky Kobolds. They aren't that big now are they! Of course it's something else when they come in numbers... hmm...
None the less, Ragnarök is certain sometime soon the group will get out in the wilderness again hunting for Kobolds... For now, he patiently waits and feasts with the rest in the Inn. A good opportunity to get to know all...

And I agree that Meranus would get the most use out of that ring." He pockets the package and thinks hard about the leftover shares. "I'm not sure. (Jorge) Asteron Worldtraveller AC 18/11/16 -- CMD 20 -- HP 31/31 Thursday October 4th, 2012 8:16:04 PM
Asteron replies to Meranus in their native tongue. "I have not been to the Taur Isles in a long time. Truth is, I miss home. But whether a blessing or a curse, I cannot return, at least not now". There was quite a bit of sadness in his words, readily apparent to the other minotaur. He paused briefly to lift his goblet and drink the last of the wine in it. "It is good to see another minotaur face, even if we both seem to be... unable to get back home for the time being. I will gladly share the duties of the watch with you."
The black-faced minotaur rummages through his backpack for a moment, and quickly finds what he was looking for. A bottle of purple wine is carefully, even lovingly, placed on the table in front of Meranus. "I only have a few of these left, but I'd consider it an honor if you would share it with me. It will remind us both of a home we don't have, at least for the present."
(Josh) Meranus Stormhorn AC 14/13/13 -- CMD 22 -- HP 38/38 Thursday October 4th, 2012 9:00:42 PM
His eyes arrested by the purple, Meranus is frozen for a few seconds before responding to Toregan. "Give it to them. They'll need gear to survive the trip." He then shakes his head and repeats himself, this time in Common instead of Tauren.
Returning to his native speech, he accepts the offer with reverence.
(Pedro) Faust Havler Tavir'e AC 18/14/14 -- CMD 16 -- HP 18/18 -- Bombs 9/9 Thursday October 4th, 2012 10:57:09 PM "I'll see what I can do. Doubt we'll be able to purchase poison sacks or the such here, so we'll be bound to what we can harvest around."
"As for the pheromones...it sounds doable, but isn't something I have tried before, so I'll need to research and plan a bit to deduce what we'll need to gather in order to have it done before I can give a definitive answer."
As Toregan arrives and gives him his share, he gladly stuffs it into his pouch and proceeds to put it into his bag. When asked about Ellie and Raven's share, he replies: "Hmmm, I'd feel quite the jerk if I received their money without at least trying to give it to them...so yeah, let's try to send it after them if possible."
He pauses and then asks Yngvar, "By the way, Hefnd, I couldn't help but overhear you mentioning a wand of some sort just now and that you can't use or something? I assume the reason is that it's a divine magic wand, correct? May I take a look at it...?"
"I'm unsure if I share, but part of the research I used to develop my talents revolved around using arcane energy in a way that it mimics divine and creates the same effect...similar to how some spontaneous casters are able to cast divine spells even though their powers are arcane; ergo, I'd be delighted to be able to test if the same principle can also be applied to wands."

Slipping the rest of the packages back into his haversack, "I'll get these sent off in the morning for Ellie and Raven."
"Looks like we have a couple of options, we can spend some time working on the outpost's security, or the top/bottom of the lift. I'm for fixing up the outpost first."

"Ok, looks like a success. Feeling better, Dondarin? If you need more healing I can prepare you an extract, it'll be wise to save this wand's charges for as much as possible."
As Yngvar questions on future moves, Faust shrugs and answers, "Haven't been here long enough to be able to tell up from bottom, so I'll do whatever you people deem most crucial."
Spending a charge of the wand to heal 6 damage from Toregan.

The Trading Post After Dinner Saturday October 6th, 2012 8:34:19 AM
The group divides up the treasure, yngvar acting as the groups treasurer. he also discovers and identifies the wand and magic ring. Would Meranus wear it and become an enabler to the others delusions of magik? Faust gets the wand to activate and heals Torregan and thus becomes the owner of the wand The group does decide to get Raven and Ellie thier shares and it should be easy enough in the morning before they depart with Nathanial. Mernaus and Asteron share a glass of wine with more reverence than likely any nearby have seen. This ellicits a few chuckles from Risca, but nothing more. Coonversation amongst the group turns to what is next on the list and with the newer members defferring to the older ones, it is soon decided that the continuation of securing the Trading Post as much as can be will be thier immediate goals.
Bast, porter and stout pour relatively freely about the group and very freely down the throats of the residents. Soon cheers are being delivered to the Heroes of The Post. Toasts of health and to the promise of riches to be made. It is quite evident that Risca the dwarf, Nudge the gnome, Borcht, his sister Klairiest, Bast and Haggard intend to have a night to regret.
(Jorge) Asteron Worldtraveller AC 18/11/16 -- CMD 20 -- HP 31/31 Saturday October 6th, 2012 2:53:37 PM
As they share the purple wine, Asteron regards Meranus with an inquisitive eye. I wonder what his field of expertise is? In this place full of shorter races, he stands as a giant among midgets. Even I come up short in stature when compared to him. Perhaps, with time, he will share his story He refills Meranus' goblet with all the ceremony that purple wine deserves. "Please, have some more", he says to the other minotaur as he also refills his own. "To you, Meranus. May Imod smile upon you all the days of your life!"
As those that have been in the outpost decide to secure it as their first priority, Asteron finally speaks. "I volunteer to take a watch, wherever and whenever you need me. I can use a bow, and I am half-decent with this..." He points at the Lucerne Hammer resting at his side. "I should give a good account of myself should we be attacked. Of course..." he smiles, "I am neither invulnerable, nor a fool. So if at all possible, I would prefer to have someone stand watch with me, preferable someone with healing skills."
Interestingly, after finishing his dinner Asteron has not drank any alcoholic beverage but his share of the bottle of wine that he produced from his pack. As the bottle is finished he looks at it longingly, but neither does he pull another one from his pack, nor does he partake of the Basts Dragon Porter or the Triple Stout. It seems as if he has decided to stand guard, just in case.

Asteron seems to pay no attention to Toragan's stutter. That is, to the black-faced bull, of no consequence. The fact that Toregan seems to be at ease in his light armor and with his weapons is much more important to him.

The Dead of Night Monday October 8th, 2012 10:15:54 PM
The evening wears on and the ales continue. Ragnarok excuses himself before things go too far and takes a walk about the quiet of the Trading Post at night.
Nudge the gnome, Borcht, his sister Klairiest, never make it out of the common room. Each is slumped to the floor or across a table feeling no pain for the moment.
Risca, Bast and Haggard are far more hearty in their drinking and tolerance. Most of the party retires without having overindulged themselves. Faust, Griffin and Yngvar heading upstairs and Torregan and Asteron exiting into the night to take watch at upon the towers.
Griffin slips out of her room and drops to the ground, not being able to climb the smooth wooden side of the Inn to the roof. She lands without incident and sets about exploring. There is little to explore and soon the Post is covered
Shouts and cries of toasts of friends and adventures gone by call out after those who leave from Haggard and Risca. Several loud stories, even if only partially true put both men in the camp of having an extended and successful career of slaying monsters across the north in their younger days.
Meranus stays with them to near the bitter end, but soon after Bast staggers off into the deep night and Haggard heads to his room in the back, Meranus goes upstairs. Risca hoists a glass to the departing taur and shoots him a sly wink and then quickly drains the mug only to pour another.
The night is humid as usual and a near cloudless sky sparkles with stars casting more than enough light to see by. There is little to see or tour within the walls for Ragnarok. The post measures about 200' on a side. Soon enough he heads in, meeting Bast on his way out. The brewer stumbles by with a casual wave and heads towards the brewery and home.
In watch tower 1, Torregan spots movement near the wall by the stables. It looks as if something, or several somethings just came in under the wall and into the Trading Post compound!
Torregan and Asteron are the only PC's currently awake. Faust has made his extracts and Torregan and Asteron each have one of the CLW extracts. Each Tower is fitted with a large iron bell

The first is more honorable, but he's nowhere near stealthy. The second is more efficient, but it pains him to let his companion walk into danger by himself.
Understanding the need for waking up any and all that drink will allow to fight if need be, Asteron starts to move towards the nearest bell. He tries to be silent about it, knowing full well that he will not be silent enough... which, he thinks, might draw attention for Toregan, which could actually work in their favor. Torregan is able to don a fine pair of lips and whisper a Message to Asteron. he then heads down the from the tower and starts making his way towards the stables. Asteron decides ringing one of the alarm bells to be his best choice and commences to doing so. Vibrant rings peel from the well rafted bell with each strike. The sound likely carries for miles across the mesa and the jungles around it. Meranus is awake, oh yes and mad. He quickly heads downstairs. Borcht and his sister still lie where they fell from drinking. No one else is about and the front door stands open Yngvar and Ragnarok too, head down and through the common room. What they also notice is that the lion is gone as is Haggard's greatsword from above the bar Griffin awakens as well, and starts to don her armor.
Picking his way towards the stables at the base along the outer, Toerrgan spies another flash of shadow ahead as 6 maybe 8 wolf sized creatures pop up under the wall and head in the direction of the grain storage and Mill
Coming at the group of Meranus, Yngvar and Ragnarok is a pack of about 8 hyenas. Yipping and laughing, they sprint across the ground and attack. 4 of them coming at Meranus, more circling south and still a few more simply don't get into range. Meranus hit AC 18 Dmg 5 Trip CMB 9 Meranus hit AC 23 Dmg 8 Trip CMB 4 Meranus hit AC 16 Dmg 4 Trip CMB 23 Meranus is tripped and Prone Meranus hit AC 10
Yips and howls can be heard in other areas by the Alchemist and General Store
Barrelling around the corner of the Inn is Haggard and his lion. Age and drink have slowed both however. To the south by the forge another battlecry is heard Ye Oversized cats! Risca deep voice calls out followed by a yelp of pain from a hyena

Faust takes some time to get up, only doing so on the second wave of sound. He was awake alright from the first one, but was too busy cursing his luck to collect his thoughts and get on his feet.
He looks around his room and grabs his bomb pouch, one extract vial, his Dex mutagen and his crossbow (with bolts!), drinking the mutagen as he runs outside, towards the bell.
Meeting the others on the way, he greets them with the grumpiest visage his face muscles can muster, with a complex mix of annoyance, frustration, anger, bitterness and desire to kill, mumbling as he goes, "Good to be back on the outpost I said...gonna sleep well tonight I said...no need to worry I said..."
Once outside, he takes a look around, trying to notice anything out of the ordinary.
Not sure how many rounds 'till we get outside, but if there are no complications in the meantime, that sums Faust's total actions until then.
My AC and CMD is already updated for the mutagen.

We'll take those ones out and then move in to help the others." Toregan takes out his crossbow as he tries to get into a good position to fire at the intruding animals.
Draw crossbow while moving 30ft to get line of sight of a hyena and attack it if able. Attack w/Crossbow (+7): 17 (-1 for every range increment) Damage (1d8): 5

Asteron does as he is told, moving directly towards Toregan, trying to situate himself between whatever is attacking the general store and the human. His intention is to assume a defensive stance, and protect Toregan, and himself, from incoming attacks... at least for the time being. - - - - - OOC; Up to 3 AoO (Combat Reflexes) with 15' reach (large + reach weapon) Attacks (+7): 24, 10, 23 Damage (3d6+4): 14, 10, 16

Quickly observing the shear number again in which the Hyenas attack nearly automatically makes Ragnarök drink the potion in his hand (move action). Feeling how the magic toughens up his defence Ragnarök now feels ready and well awake on this fine morning!
Making another 5ft step forward into the direction of the Hyena he makes a swing at the one closest to him. I not in range yet, he'll lash out the fist that moments ago still held a potion the moment the joker comes into range... (difficult to see range on the map without grid - cool map!)
Hitting AC22 - damage 6
"Haha! Nothing but a good fight to start the day!!"

(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 14/14/12 -- CMD 12 -- HP 16/16 Wednesday October 10th, 2012 3:10:52 PM
Yngvar laughs gleefully, Just what I needed for a wake up!"
Stepping to one side to keep Meranus out of the effect, but catching as many of the hyena's as possible, Yngvar dips a hand into his pouch and throws out both of his hands, fingers spread wide, with colored sand flying from one hand to shower across the hyenas. "Our sleep distur-bed, our retribution felt, I send you to bed!"

Faust is still in a room upstairs and has not drank anything Griffin continues to don her armor, but it is going to take another 30 seconds to get it on correctly. Don leather/studded leather takes 1 minute. Donning Hastily takes 5 rounds, but the armor check penalty and armor bonus for hastily donned armor are each 1 point worse than normal Torregan calls to Asteron to meet him at the General store and heads that direction. Asteron, hearing Torregan, heads towards the general store. Ragnarök drinks the potion in his hand and tries to move past Ygnvar to get to one of the hyenas on Meranus. Not being able to move freely he delays until the wizard acts and when the wizard does, hes steps up and cracks one hard in the ribs. It is similar to punching a tree Yngvar moves to the left and casts Color Spray across 2 of the hyenas on Meranus
Haggard and the lion turn and run for the church when a cry comes from that direction with the breaking of glass. Both disappear into the night. Another dwarven shout and yelp, and Yngvar and Ragnarok see the dwarf chasing a pair of hyenas past them and towards the backside of the inn DM Sub Meranus lunges with his horns, impaling the one that had dragged him to the ground. The same one taht Ragnarok had just struckFalls broken and still Hit AC 17 Dmg 12

Meranus prone on the ground... the wizard the easiest to bite for the Hyenas... it's like choosing between two friends to see whom you can help...
With hopes that the wizard can do something to aid Meranus once he's no longer threatened Ragnarök launches a flurry of blows against the nearest Hyena...

(Josh) Meranus Stormhorn AC 12/9/9 -- CMD 14 -- HP 17/38 d20+1=4 ; Thursday October 11th, 2012 6:01:26 AM
Meranus is tired, hungover, still recovering from the trek, still reeling from the bells effect on said hungover state, and being nipped and eaten by beasts that shouldn't have had the courage to lick his hand. He responds...actually, rather appropriately.
"GWWAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Meranus roars at the attackers, the jungle, the thoroughly unreasonable clan elders, and the Wold in general. Unfortunately, the minotaur is still tired, hungover, recovering, slightly deafened, and surrounded by jackal fur. His accompanying horn thrust digs a small channel in the earth, one that will soon be filled with blood.
------------------------ Hits AC 4. Yeah. Header still had -2 to AC, +2 to CMD from enlarge spell; only effect is that last attack against him missed. Sorry, wasn't expecting the ambush.

Asteron hopes he does not arrive too late to save... whoever needs saving! It would just not do for people to die during his first shift. So, he continues moving towards the general store, keeping as alert as possible. His intention is, if he can't reach the enemies in the area, to act as a shield between the enemy and the inhabitants of the outpost, using his reach to their collective advantage. - - - - - OOC: Man!
