Toregan drinks little, knowing that too much drink will leave him in a sorry state the next day. "I'll j-join you Asteron. S-s-sorry to say, b-but my, uh, skills as a..... healer are limited t-to the mundane."

The Taur looks at Toregan appreciatively. "It will be you and me then. Good! Perhaps you can fill me in on the details while we are at it." The wine has warmed his heart, but half a bottle does not seem to have dulled his senses. "Since you have been here longer, lead the way when you think is time, and I'll follow. I still need to learn the lay of the town."

Asteron seems to pay no attention to Toragan's stutter. That is, to the black-faced bull, of no consequence. The fact that Toregan seems to be at ease in his light armor and with his weapons is much more important to him.

The Dead of Night
Monday October 8th, 2012 10:15:54 PM

The evening wears on and the ales continue. Ragnarok excuses himself before things go too far and takes a walk about the quiet of the Trading Post at night.

Nudge the gnome, Borcht, his sister Klairiest, never make it out of the common room. Each is slumped to the floor or across a table feeling no pain for the moment.

Risca, Bast and Haggard are far more hearty in their drinking and tolerance.
Most of the party retires without having overindulged themselves. Faust, Griffin and Yngvar heading upstairs and Torregan and Asteron exiting into the night to take watch at upon the towers.

Griffin slips out of her room and drops to the ground, not being able to climb the smooth wooden side of the Inn to the roof. She lands without incident and sets about exploring. There is little to explore and soon the Post is covered

Shouts and cries of toasts of friends and adventures gone by call out after those who leave from Haggard and Risca. Several loud stories, even if only partially true put both men in the camp of having an extended and successful career of slaying monsters across the north in their younger days.

Meranus stays with them to near the bitter end, but soon after Bast staggers off into the deep night and Haggard heads to his room in the back, Meranus goes upstairs. Risca hoists a glass to the departing taur and shoots him a sly wink and then quickly drains the mug only to pour another.

The night is humid as usual and a near cloudless sky sparkles with stars casting more than enough light to see by. There is little to see or tour within the walls for Ragnarok. The post measures about 200' on a side. Soon enough he heads in, meeting Bast on his way out. The brewer stumbles by with a casual wave and heads towards the brewery and home.

In watch tower 1, Torregan spots movement near the wall by the stables. It looks as if something, or several somethings just came in under the wall and into the Trading Post compound!

Torregan and Asteron are the only PC's currently awake. Faust has made his extracts and Torregan and Asteron each have one of the CLW extracts. Each Tower is fitted with a large iron bell

(I shall assume that Asteron is fairly close to the tower, or at least close enough for a Message spell to reach him.)
Toregan acts quickly, reaching into his pack and grasping the brightly colored wax lips he had found in his pack one day. He bites down on them and quickly speaks to Asteron. [b]"I see have movement by the stables. Came in under the wall. I'm checking it out." He then quickly and stealthily makes his way down the ladder, hoping the shroud of darkness will hide him while he tries to get a better look at the beings that infiltrated the post.

Asteron receives Toregan's message and his brow furrows. Decision time: Either to join Toregan, or to move to where the minotaur can sound the alarm. The first is more honorable, but he's nowhere near stealthy. The second is more efficient, but it pains him to let his companion walk into danger by himself.

Understanding the need for waking up any and all that drink will allow to fight if need be, Asteron starts to move towards the nearest bell. He tries to be silent about it, knowing full well that he will not be silent enough... which, he thinks, might draw attention for Toregan, which could actually work in their favor. If he is attacked, he will yell with all he's got, raising the alarm before charging into the fray.

Ragnarök's dreams suddenly are filled with bells ringing... wondering if he really drank that much last night he tries to go back to sleep... only a few seconds later he realises these bells aren't ringing in his head! It's coming from outside!!

Jumping to his feet he rummages quickly in his backpack and grabs a singly potion. Then he tries to make it to the door...

Torregan is able to don a fine pair of lips and whisper a Message to Asteron. he then heads down the from the tower and starts making his way towards the stables.
Asteron decides ringing one of the alarm bells to be his best choice and commences to doing so. Vibrant rings peel from the well rafted bell with each strike. The sound likely carries for miles across the mesa and the jungles around it.
Meranus is awake, oh yes and mad. He quickly heads downstairs. Borcht and his sister still lie where they fell from drinking. No one else is about and the front door stands open
Yngvar and Ragnarok too, head down and through the common room. What they also notice is that the lion is gone as is Haggard's greatsword from above the bar
Griffin awakens as well, and starts to don her armor.

Picking his way towards the stables at the base along the outer, Toerrgan spies another flash of shadow ahead as 6 maybe 8 wolf sized creatures pop up under the wall and head in the direction of the grain storage and Mill

Coming at the group of Meranus, Yngvar and Ragnarok is a pack of about 8 hyenas. Yipping and laughing, they sprint across the ground and attack. 4 of them coming at Meranus, more circling south and still a few more simply don't get into range.

Faust takes some time to get up, only doing so on the second wave of sound. He was awake alright from the first one, but was too busy cursing his luck to collect his thoughts and get on his feet.

He looks around his room and grabs his bomb pouch, one extract vial, his Dex mutagen and his crossbow (with bolts!), drinking the mutagen as he runs outside, towards the bell.

Meeting the others on the way, he greets them with the grumpiest visage his face muscles can muster, with a complex mix of annoyance, frustration, anger, bitterness and desire to kill, mumbling as he goes, "Good to be back on the outpost I said...gonna sleep well tonight I said...no need to worry I said..."

Once outside, he takes a look around, trying to notice anything out of the ordinary.

Not sure how many rounds 'till we get outside, but if there are no complications in the meantime, that sums Faust's total actions until then.

"Have my hands full here, you damn worthless child!" Absolutely desperate, Meranus tries pushing his attackers away with his unfinished instrument (Improvised quarterstaff-like weapon w/ Catch Off-Guard; TWF + natural attack off-hand) and manages a solid hit when he accidentally shoves one end straight down a jackal's mouth (Nat 20 hit, not confirmed, 10 damage on one of the two attacking him, chosen randomly).

Move action to get in a decent firing position.
Standard to activate a bomb and throw at one of the hyenas, using Precise bombs to suppress any splash damage that will hit anything but the other hyena (+9): hitting touch AC 29 (critical, confirmed for 24 touch AC), causing 16 damage (32 if confirmed critical) fire damage.

Asteron suddenly finds himself in some trouble as his Lucern Hammer is not designed for close quarter combat. The minotaur does still have options and uses a set of Claws from his Lesser totem to strike at a Hyena.
Ragnarök launches another Flurry of Blows against the nearest Hyena, hitting once.
Torregan draws his rapier and stabs one, putting the wounded one down.
Yngvar moves back from the hyena upon him and encourages Meranus to get up.
Meranus cracks one of the hyenas on him hard in the head.
Faust lobs a bomb and places it perfectly. The hyena is engulfed in flames and dies. The other Hyena also catches fire and perhaps Meranus as well
Meranus Reflex save DC 16 for half of 7 Meranus is in 5' of any Hyena Faust can use a bomb against. I see nowhere to support Splash damage being multiplied in a critical. I can go with the direct hit and if we want to go to the Rules Board no problem, but for right here right now, no splashing critical

"NOT SO FAST." Meranus takes a swing at the scaredyena, but still dizzy from his previous exertions, the stick swings lazily in the air. (OoC: Withdrawing doesn't work against creatures with reach, since it only makes movement from a single square immune to AoO, and the hyena would need to cross two to get away from me.
Also, Faust posted multiple times in his post that he was only letting the splash hit the hyenas, which he can thanks to a discovery. I should be safe for now.)

No longer surrounded by the hellbeasts - are these what the liontaurs are always complaining about? - Meranus chances standing - carefully, as he's not sure how close the one near Ragnarok is... (it's hard to tell on the map, but if adjacent, the hyena gets an AoO at AC12 since combat expertise and defensive fighting can't trigger first, blast it.) If Meranus survives, he will shift (5') to the opposite side of the beast from Ragnarok and take out his utter frustration on the beast - sadly, he apparently has little frustration left (Hit AC23, 12 damage because the die roller still hasn't forgotten that practical joke with the cheese-its and the monitor lizards...)

(I understand, I was a bit too excited for hitting a critical in battle and totally forgot all special rules associated to bombs; but yes, critical splash doesn't make any sense. And as Josh said, I have the Precise Bombs discovery which allows me to suppress any splash tiles up to my Int modifier (5); the splash is 5ft, or 4 tiles, so I used that to suppres the 3 tiles that would not hit the other hyena)

As Meranus gets up, Faust exclamates: "Whoa, you look worst than usual, give me a sec and I will...", he unceremoniously makes the motion as if flipping his backpack to the front and reaching into one of its pockets, oblivious to the fact that it's not there, looking like a complete fool.

"R-rats!! I...uhhnn...forgot the wand upstairs due to the rush...uh...ok, don't do anything crazy, I'll be back in a flash! If you want to be pro-active, your brother in race should have an extract of healing on him."

With that the drow rushes as fast as possible back inside the inn, running to the best of his ability and bumping on couple walls on the way.

From where Ragnarök stands he can only see Asteron who is attacked by two more Hyenas. The trouble near the Alchemist Shop and the fact that Toregan is prone goes unnoticed to the Monk.

Ragnarök considers the two Hyena's attacking Asteron the biggest threat at the moment. Already one tank has nearly been eliminated... no need to see another one go down.

Making a hustle (move action : 40ft base speed x 2 = 80ft should be enough to reach those two attacking Asteron) Ragnarök pops up behind the Hyena's nibbling on Asteron. All of his paranoia shatters instantly as he notices his bag, ready for pick-up and go right by his bed, which he left ready for an early leave, but ultimately forgot due to haste; the drow would've taken the time to facepalm himself if he didn't already spend enough pointlessly looking at every corner of the room.

So instead, he simply grabs his back and runs down the stairs and for the door...he knows full well that asking a hulking taur with anger management issues to "not do anything stupid" gives the same result as telling a starving ogre who is about to eat you that "humanoid brains contains a lot of fat and he should eat a dryad instead".

Yngvar looks towards the voice, peering to see what he can make out in the star light "Braden? You have the wrong man, I am Yngvar, I haven't met anyone named Braden." Yngvar straightens up, "Little off the beaten path, aren't you Count Ulrich?"

Yngvar takes a step to the side while raising his empty hands.

AoO hits AC25 - 19

Meranus growls with pleasure as he watches Asteron's Lucerne Hammer crashing down on the first Hyena... bones cracking the infernal creature probably isn't going to cause much pain any more... but the second creature (if still alive) has hurt Meranus a lot... his studded leather colours bloody red from his wounds... the Taur can feel blood dripping along his arms... but healing was under way as promised by Yngvar yet drinking a potion if out of the question. Meranus can not survive another attack! This needs to end NOW...

"Which part of 'don't do anything crazy' you did not understand?? I'm an alchemist, not the freaking high-priest of over-abundant life! If you die, that's it, can't do squat about it. Be. Careful. Sheesh!"

He points his wand to Meranus and mumbles briefly, "How did it go again...?", as he pours a fraction of his magical power to activate the wand, causing some of the taur's wounds to close, but not nearly enough to make him any less bloody, Faust looks with an eyebrow raised to the wand and mumbles "No...this isn't right...must've made some mistake in the wave of the energy..."

Since I won't get a post in today...

I have spent the last couple of days looking through our old posts.

It is the night of the eleventh day since Toregan, Meranus, and Yngvar, of the original seven players, agreed to Mr' Randolf's offer.
In the last 11 days, no combat occurred on day 3, 7, and 10.
We have had a total of sixteen players. (I didn't count DM's)
Other than the original three still with us, the other 13 players averaged one day in game.
On day 9 we left to find the sinew for the catapults. On day 11 we survived a dinosaur stampede, an attack by 'raptors, a plain's fire (thanks Faust), and we are now fighting hyena's. Yes, it does appear that it took us two days to find the dinosaurs, but only a couple of hours to get back.

I would suggest a retcon that we had a day of travel between day 11 and the return to outpost. Otherwise, this battle will really suck with no spells restored.

Peeling Bells Combat Over
Sunday October 21st, 2012 10:31:54 PM

Asteron comes in and with a swing of his hammer, pulverizes one of the Hyenas on Meranus
Meranus has killed the other as it closed. The hyena never scored a hit. The drow approaches and has promised healing
Torregan Strikes and wounds the hyena and backs towards Gazzy
Yngvar raises his hands as he returns a greeting to the man before him who has come representing one Count Ulrich
Griffin will move around the forge and disappears in the darkness of the shadows. By the light of moons and stars she can make out a figure about 100 ahead, though not specifically whom it might be
Faust move to the side of Meranus and uses the wand recently identified as that of healing to close some of Meranus's wounds
Ragnarok with little to help a magically sleeping dwarf, heads back towards the others

The last hyena has had enough and withdraws from the rather one sided fight with Torregan.
Gazzy moves to the ranger still coughing some and wiping soot from her eyes. "I have never seen or heard of such behavior. Stupid dogs."

The man in front of Yngvar smiles as the wizard raises his hands, "Wise decision Braden, but i am just a humble servant. His grace..."
A roar from the right startles the as Haggard charges in from around the corner yelling "Vanguard!" The great sword blazing to life in a dizzying array of colors. Crackling with energy and heat. The man instinctively spins towards Haggard. A moment of hesitation, a moments pause in the face of the massive man coming at him from the dark and doom is upon him. Haggard brings his great sword across in a mighty sweep and the blade barely pauses on its way through to the wall behind him. As he falls, Haggard, wild eyed and veins bulging, roars in triumph and turns back towards the alchemist shop leaving Yngvar alone with the dead man

On the light, like the distances, played pretty loose with everything with starlight and moonlight allowing folks to see fairly well

As the battle ends, Asteron lets the rage fade. He is drained, but he is content knowing that he did his fair share of the fighting, and even has a couple of wounds to prove it. Still, turning to Meranus, who is in much worse shape than the barbarian, he offers the other Taur the extract that was given to him earlier in the evening. Here, brother, you seem to need this more than I do.

Then, as fatigue sets in, he says no one in particular: I need to catch my breath. A minute or two will do, but I just need to... He leaves the sentence unfinished, but it is plain for all to see that he needs to stop and rest. The bloody head of his hammer is on the floor, and he is using the handle to steady himself as he tries to catch his breath.

And you, big bloody toro, stay still.", he says pointing to Meranus while he reaches to get his 3 remaining extracts and turn them into CLW extracts.

That being said, Ragnarök checks out the Hyena corpses for some evidence of their origin (perception 20) . Later he goes to inspect Risca, hopefully with help of some healer present. Once woken Risca might be able to tell more about what happened. (perception 21)

(OoC - friends, if ACDM Cayzle and our DM's are ok with it, I'm going to change Ragnarök into a member of that new Walkers Organization. Why was the outpost attacked? And bent logs? Not that I am any expert in things magical, but this smells like a druid's work to me. Any ideas?"

Druids are not evil by nature, so Asteron is confused as to why would a druid want to attack the outpost. I may have landed myself in a spot that I'd rather not be in, it seems... he muses silently.

Torregan "We were warned of monstrologers who might be hostile to attempts to settle the region. This man might be one of them. Yngvar, does he have anything on him that could identify him?"

"Well...it's quite evident that we're up against some sort of druid...thought to be honest, the hyenas were much less fierce and overall organized than the raptors...even given their interest in the alchemist shop. Maybe the whole thing was nothing but a fluke to conceal their true intent?"

"And how's the stable? I expect it to have been attacked, are the outpost's animals safe?"

Yngvar settles down at his usual table and lays out the items he collected from the assassin. After examining the items carefully, he slides the arrows, quiver, and the crossbow to one side. Leaving the pouch of gold in the center of the table next to the empty scroll case.

"I think some ale would be called for. Hope, if you please, a round for everyone." Yngvar pulls a couple of gold from the pouch, stands, and hands them to Hope, "he won't be needing this, and better spent for our rude awakening." Yngvar curls his hand over Hope's, "your father saved my life this evening. A dept I will be hard kept to repay. Your father is a good man." Releasing her hand, he nods to the kitchen.

Sitting back down he looks at the others and nods to the items to one side, "the weapons are enchanted. the crossbow has a mild incantation to seek it's target. The quiver is much like our bags, it will hold much more than you would think it can by looking at it, including bows and spears, I would suggest that we not let Meranus play with it lest he have a breakdown." A wry jest, delivered dry. "The bolts are designed to cause grievous damage to ," and he points to each bunch in turn, "animals, and humans." Yngvar then picks up the last arrow, the one from the crossbow itself, "this one was enchanted to kill me." He lays that one down in front of himself, the point of the bolt pointed to his left, he slowly rolls it back and forth with his fingers on the shaft.

"I wonder if he was one of Bas' men..." Yngvar stares off into space for a moment, before starting and returning to Wold. "Anyway, I can use the scroll case, it's empty, and I think the gold is but a small dent in repairing the damage to the alchemy shop, what say you?"

When Haggard enters, Yngvar jumps up and walks up to the barkeep, "this night you saved my life, I am in your debt. You have but to ask, and if it is in my power, it is yours."

After going from the inn to the other buildings, Meranus again comes by the gathering (there's not that much to watch in the trading post). Looking again at the wall and its hole, Meranus sighs. As Toregan goes to replace him on watch, the taur breaks out his carpentry tools and asks for any wood scraps from the balistae. "It looks like the wall should be replaced, but a hole, I can patch."

After taking a look at the injured and realizing that it's work for a doctor or priest, he just makes promises of some extracts in the morning for those who seem in worse shape; joining the rest at the inn once that's done.

Faust listens to Yngvar in silence and once Griffin voices her interest in the crossbow, he shrugs and comments, holding one of his "Well, I'd sure enjoy it, but eh, I rather burn things alive with these...err...you know...burn evil things...in the name of good...yes."

While Meranus works at patching the hole, Asteron stands guard besides him, and asks Risca, who is doing likewise, a question: "Master dwarf, I have found this hammer," he wields it confidently, "a little too cumbersome for the fight that just ended. Too unwieldy for close quarters. Yet, it is a fine weapon of dwarven make, and I was wondering: would it be possible to barter it for another weapon of like quality, a large greatsword maybe? I think I would better serve the outpost with something like that instead."

Asteron is not too hopeful that the master smith has one readily available, and so would not be disappointed if he has to wait. [b]"And if need be, I know how to work the bellows and feed the furnace, so I could aid you to make one if need be."
Not the greatest of weaponsmiths, Asteron nevertheless had enough training to assist someone with the heavy tasks. It seemed that as little as it may be, his training would not go to waste in the outpost.

Personally, I can't blame his character for hiding this. I read yngvars backstory, so it meakes sense for him to hide this. His past, his problem. Also, good throw-off Erza. That's a very likely scenario.

"If that man did work for Bas, it would explain why he targeted you first. You were the one who talked with him." Toregan chuckles at Yngvar's quip about Meranus and the quiver. "I will aid in the repair of the shop as best as i am able. I couldn't stop the beasts from getting in there in the first place, this is the least I can do. I would also like to use that crossbow for awhile. My bow has yet to be repaired, and this one seems better suited for combat than........" Toregan reaches for the crossbow that is usually on his person, only to realize he never picked it back up. Muttering a small curse, he quickly retrieves his fallen weapon. When he returns he continues where he left off. "As I was saying, that one seems of a better quality than this. The quiver and animal bane bolts would also aid me, but I understand if others would want them. Those other bolts...... Well, I'm not comfortable using those." Toregan gets little sleep that night, helping keep watch going in preparation for ANOTHER ATTACK.

Griffin takes a quick patrol of the area intending to stay up now that she was up
Meranus begins working on the problem of patching the hole
Risca chuckles at him and shakes his head, "Son, you might want to wait for morning and some supplies. You're going to need some lumber to do anything to that."
The problem is that Risca is right The posts are warped away from the wall to create the hole, but more than that it seems as if they thinned somehow. To a minotaur who does not believe in magic, it's quite a perplexing sight
Yngvar and Ragnarok both assure Hope of her fathers safety and express their respect for him. The girl smiles and thanks them both for their kind words

Yngvar tells the party of what the man was carrying and speculates that he may have come from Mr. Bas. Underworld thug extraordinair of the Float and not precisely friendly towards the group already

Faust nods taking it in, but adds that if the bolt was designed to kill Yngvar, that implied the man knew the wizard

Asteron speaks to Risca of possibly getting a greatsword made for his stature. The old dwarf's eyes sparkle a bit at the thought and a smile creeps across his face. "I can and will craft you one noble Asteron. From what i heard, you showed your worth this night and so I will. Keep your hammer."

The night passes without further incident. (Division of booty can go email with results posted in character if you like. make sure everyone agrees, sounds like Torregan and Griffin are vying for the crossbow)

Morning arrives, Work on repairing the damage and generally cleaning up commences. Those not privy to the attacks of last night are horrified they happened and very thankful the heroes vanquished the enemy. The whole post is quite concerned on the matter of the attack by the assassin

Whatever is left of the night, Ragnarök spends rather with an uncomfortable sleep. He can not stop pondering the attack. Why his attacks didn't connect sufficiently, why the group was ill dispersed during combat.... after all that big Taur nearly bought it in this last scrapper! Ragnarök only joined the group only recently and is quite certain of the group skills... yet so far it isn't a group yet...
It will once they all get to know eachother better. First they will need to live through some more combat... that usually brings groups together.

The next morning Ragnarök has a light breakfast and meditates for an hour. After that... he's unsure what's to be done next. Hunt for whoever it was that attacked them last night? Patch the hole in the wall? Sit 'n wait for the next attack and maybe be able to gather more evidence?

Interesting day it was... and the coming days look promising! With a hint of a smile he eyeballs each and everone in the group... a fine group they are! Trouble and fun are sure to follow them! Glad to be part of them...

Yngvar nods to the others, "let me spin you a tale to satisfy your curious apetities."

Settling back in his chair, Yngvar takes a look about, "There we were! Newly arrived in Float City. Barely settled into an inn for lodging. Each of us," Yngvar motions to Toregan and Meranus, "receives a summons from some bloke name of Mister Randolf. 'Twas all mysterious like, this Mr. Randolf, damn his sorry ass."

Yngvar pulls the pitcher of ale over and pours himself a large drought before taking a generous guzzle. "Where was I? Oh yes, so we received this summons and met at some posh lodge hall for a meeting with some other suckers, well not all, some didn't take the offer. But I digress. This Randolf guy comes in, tells us he wants to hire us to travel out into the wilds of Cthonia, earn a fraction of what we could earn in Float City. I often wonder if there was something in the wine."

Yngvar picks up his mug and takes another drink before continuing, "So we accept, like fools, and we are directed to meet the next morning at a tavern to meet a travel representative from the Wayfarer's Guild."

Yngvar rarely drinks, but now he finishes off the mug, "Mr. Bas, the point of this story, is one badass orc, he walks into the tavern tells us to take a hike, then redecorates the furniture with our broken bodies. Seems Bas is some sort of poacher and thinks we are going to be impacting his business. Like there aren't enough thunder lizards out there already."

Standing, Yngvar grabs the pitcher and puts a steadying hand on Toregan's shoulder and leans down, "Keep to pissed off poachers, the civies will accept that more than, other stories."

Yngvar takes the pitcher and heads back to his room.

There is more to the tale than is being told Subconsciously, he mimics Meranus at licking his lips, but says nothing about his doubts.

Well, if it is to be pissed off poachers, that is what it will be. But I am afraid... he pauses for effect, so others in the party pay attention, that there will be more of them poachers unless we can somehow put an end to their coming. How? I have no idea. But I am convinced it is something we will have to do

When had he made the problem his? The minotaur doesn't know or even dwells on it. All he knows now is that it is now their problem.

As an afterthought, he does add: Meranus, I agree, you need better armor. That leather is beginning to look thin for what we are up against.

Asteron has nothing else to add. He is not a creature of words, but of action, and most sentients he's ever met are a tad intimidated by him being a minotaur, so he stays put. There were battles, he has learned, that are fought with honeyed words and concepts, instead of with blades and armor, that are no less important than those of the fields of war: the battles for the hearts of those that are under your care.

(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 14/14/12 -- CMD 12 -- HP 12/16
Thursday November 1st, 2012 7:23:22 PM

Yngvar had said his piece and left the others to discuss last nights events. He figured that by sewing the seeds of the probability that the events were initiated by Bas, they would do a decent job of convincing themselves of that. Expecially with the eyewitnesss accounts that Toregan and MEranus could give of Bas' ruthlessness.

I wish Haggard had been a little slower, it would have been nice to know how they tracked me down. It would be most unfortunate if someone here was an informant, this will bear watching.

After going upstairs, Yngvar grabbed his haversack and took the back stairs down to the back of the tavern. Activating the catacombs pin, he took that otherworldly magic portal to sell off those items the group had decided were not as useful. Hopefully the cash would let them purchase something they would find personally beneficial.

After returning from the catacombs, Yngvar took a stroll around the outpost. In part to study the method of attack, and partly to start covering his own tracks. After checking the repair work on the hole in the outer palisade he wanders over to look at the dried splotches of blood on the grass where his own life came so close to a premature ending. A casual look about to verify nobody was watching and Yngvar drops to one knee and runs his hand through the grass.

Yngvar is markedly absent until lunch time when he comes in from outside, with his haversack slung over one shoulder. Returning the pitcher to Haggard, Yngvar nods to the others and takes his place at the table he has been forming the habit of claiming as his own. Settling the haversack on one knee he calls the others over while he pulls out several small bags and tosses them onto the table, each rings with the clink of coins.

Whatever had his goat earlier this morning, it seems he has moved on and is once more his usual self.

He slides one over to Terragon and Meranus, "I sold off the human slayers and some pipes we found in the jungle. Here's your share." Each bag contains 60 platinum pieces, 7 gold, and 3 copper.

"The rest of you are due a cut of the bolts. Don't spend it all in one place, not that you have much choice." Yngvar slides bags over to Faust, Ragnarok, Griffin, and Asteron. Each bag contains 52 platinum, a gold piece, six silver, and a copper. "The pipes were from before your arrival and are therefore not included as part of your bonus."

Yngvar also lays out the receipt from the shop for everyone to verify the split themselves.

Yngvar pulls out his own journal and the gold signet ring he picked up last night. He starts drawing the symbol into his journal for later. "found this outside where the assassin died, expect it was his. I don't recognize the symbol though. It isn't magical, just a signet ring, far as I can tell."

"Did the lot of you decide on who's getting the crossbow, quiver and bolts?"

Looks like the journal was a blessed book. Don't yet know what's in it, how many pages available, but it is a pricey item, and I think I am the only one that can use it as intended. If anyone wants to call dibs on it, then I will rp introducing it back into group loot.

Breakfast and More
Thursday November 1st, 2012 11:51:26 PM

Yngvar spins a quick tale on how the original group came to become the now proclaimed heroes of the outpost. Meranus, Torregan and himself being the only ones left as well. A quick if jaded run down of Mr. Randolph, the proposition and sunsequent run in with Mr Bas. He leaves Mr Bas as the most likely suspect of orchstrating the attack. How far his fellow companions will believe it still remains to be seen. The residents of the Trading Post are still giving the heroes ther space at this moment. They have formed thier own little group about Gazzy, giving some comfort and assuring her that as before, the Post will band together to set things right. At least no one died this time.
Ragnoarok, for one, is a bit skeptical on the assassin coming from Mr. Bas, given the tale as told by Yngvar. He admits though, he has a general hard time with lethal force in narly anysituation. His understanding of a near psychopath is likely limited.

Breakfast is nearly at an end when Pen gets up from the others and waves them down. The gnome walks over and pulls on his beard a bit, "We are all guessing that things are a bit unknown as to the who or what might be behind the attack. I'm not a fan of rumors and all so I don't want some half cocke story being blathered about. We're all pretty worldly and fit type of folk and this aint the the first attack and it wont' be the last to be sure. " With a thumb over his shoulder towards the others which ellicits a groan from Risca. "Some of 'em want toknow whatever you do, but I get to pull weight sometimes and I see this as one of them. Investigate, speculate, follow up and do whatever it is you think needs be done for the saftey and continuing operation of this Post. They and especially me, don't need to know anything other than you are on the job." With that he taps the table a couple of times and departs for home and the Administration office

Yngvar dissappears for a good part of the day, and upon returning hands everyone a sack of coins from his tranactions in the Catacoms DM approved

The book only has 2 used pages of the 1000

Work on the hole has not really started, other than Patterson starting to diagram out how to go about doing it. There is talk about the table with Patterson, Risca, Haggard, Bast and Borcht of needing to put in a couple days to clear out that section and rework it.

(StevenVdB) Ragnarök HP 25/25 - AC19 / 20 evil / 23 AoO / 24 AoO Evil - CMD 22 / 24 vs Grapple
Friday November 2nd, 2012 12:57:20 PM

Ragnarök accepts the loot gold - a quick count tells him a trip to the Catacombs is a bit too early... Putting away the coins he nods to Yngvar as a thank you.

"Well ... what needs to be done? Guess you two know best where to go look for these culprits no? Till we know where to go I'll go help with the work on the outpost defences."

Once he finished his breakfast he moves over to the table where they are discussing the rework on the wall and possibly some extra defences. To Patterson he quietly says, "If you have expenses on the wall allow me to pitch in... I've saved some coins to help out - don't worry it ain't much... but all little things can help no?.

Asteron receives his share of the loot with a nod and a "thanks!" He did not expect to be receiving any income so soon, but is very grateful to see that his money more than doubled in one night. He immediately places it inside his haversack, lest anyone with pilfering abilities lightens the weight of the coin bag.

That leaves only one question, a question he's not in the best position to answer: "so... what next?"

(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 14/14/12 -- CMD 12 -- HP 12/16
Friday November 2nd, 2012 5:49:27 PM

Once everyone has their money Yngvar moves on to the next point of business. "All the buildings need shutters on the windows. Those hyena's even with magical control, would not have been able to wreak havoc in the alchemy shop if the windows had been shuttered for the evening."

Nodding to Griffin, Yngvar smiles, "Good idea lass, some guard dogs would do wonders."

Yngvar contemplates for a moment while he enjoys the fine lunch served up by Hope and Haggard.

"Not sure how expensive, or easy it would be. But to defend against a similar use of shape or warp wood, we could run interlocking rings of iron around the trees. Two spells would be needed to get through the wall. Another option would be two walls of trees with several feet of earth and rock between them. If we build an outer wall that is a few feet taller than the existing one, then we would also have a parapet to stand on."

Yngvar quickly sketches out this idea out with a casting of prestidigitation, creating a crude but small and tangible model of a section of wall.

"Costly, but something that could be built up over time would be permanent light stones placed at the corners of each building, and periodically along the walls, inside and outside the wall. Any area that suddenly went dark would be an alarm of itself."

Yngvar slides out a map of the outpost. "We should also consider building an outer wall around the orchards and fields. While we don't have the manpower to patrol that wall, getting creatures through or over it would require the expenditure of more resources, and more time. Providing more chances for discovery early."

"If the residents are really concerned about ongoing attacks, and I think they should be, then we may consider adding additional barriers around each of the buildings within the outpost."

Yngvar looks around to the others, "any other ideas?"

Griffen, what craft is your kit for?

As it doesn't look like the group will be adventuring for the day, Faust will prepare and hand out up to 3 of his extracts to heal the injured, saving the last 2 for any possible event until the evening.

Faust grins and rubs his hands together as he takes special delight in counting every penny of his pouch, rolling on his head what he needs/wants to purchase.

As Yngvar mentions his ideas for fortification, Faust ponders and simply adds: "Indeed...personally I feel that strengthening the buildings' windows and wall...after all, warp wood is quite the staple druid spell, not sure how many of these wackos you guys get, but it's a pretty damaging one as everyone saw and it's hard to fix too."

((I was gonna roll the heals, but I guess it's best for everyone who takes the extracts to roll them. From the PCs, Toregan needs the healing the most, so I guess he takes 2 vials.))

"We need a kennel, I'll build a kennel. Er...what exactly would be needed for it? I'm confident that if it can be crafted from wood, it can be crafted by axe and chisel....I just need...er...inspiration, that's it. Or perhaps something else? Oh, shutters! Yes. Those are easy."

Meranus heads for the shop, looking for a chain shirt in the correct size, or an artisan to make it, and will happily pay the named price. Then he'll get to work on some workman-like shutters, provided he can find the wood...

Monday November 5th, 2012 4:35:25 PM

Asteron thinks about how to best use his time. He decides to pay a visit to the dwarven smith, to follow up on their conversation the night before. When the Taur finds the dwarf, he says: "Master Dwarf, as per our talks last night, I am in need of a sword. If you do not mind, I'd like to work the bellows for you whenever my other occupations leave me free time. Forge work produces such beauty some times..."

Building the Post
Monday November 5th, 2012 9:38:27 PM

Griffin hits the General store and finds Lerangis's stock up to the task, though she drains much of it. The langly elf eyes Griffin rather closely as she moves through the shop. Risca does not have anything except the bear traps and of those he has plenty. When griffin mentions crafting any of the items the gruff old warf answers with an easy "Aye, sure I can. But I won't be making a Garrot for or anybody else. I can put thses things in front of the taurs armor, have them for you in a few days"

Some head to the Catacombs to purchase higher end equipment and eventually everyone ends up back at the Inn.

Yngvar starts to lay out ideas on increased defences. A second wall, reinforced iron banding, patrolling dogs and kennels, extending the outer wall beyond the small orchard and acre field. Considerable projects one and all for a population of less than 12 adults and the party.

On a more immediate note, shutters for the windows can be crafted from a knowledge standpoint and more importantly from material on hand. Meranus figures he can cut and set the frames with a minor amount of help for every building in about 2 days.

Meranus could build the kennels and the group knows Patterson to be a very capable engineer and architect. Such a supply of timber, however is not immediately on hand at the Post. there is, of course an entire jungle of it.

Asteron speaks again to Risca and the dwarf nods, "Weapon will take about 4 weeks, and you''re free to help whenever you like. Strong pair of arms assisting is always welcome.

The group has quite a few things on thier agenda. most of them involve a large influx of resources.

Life goes on in the Trading post over the next several days. Risca has been kept very busy at the forge, crafting nails and working on Asterons weapon.

Patterson works closely with Meranus and it becomes very clear to Meranus that the halfling is one of the most clever people he has ever known. Able to blend concept and practicality into a design on paper and then to bring that design to life.

Gazzy spends the time cataloging what is lost in the shop so that she can begin to replace it. She lets no one into the Alchemical shop.

The other able bodies, Borcht, Bast, Haggard, Nathanial, Rexxan, Artrius and even Pen and the older children, help where they can, but other than the most basic of manual labor, there is little they can do. The end result after a week is, shuttered windows and a full blocked of hole in the wall

Tuesday November 6th, 2012 2:24:07 PM

During the week Ragnarök has helped where ever he could. Hard labour is not something the Monk dislikes.
Keeping the spirit high and with a few laughs here and there the week passes quite quickly. At the end of the week the result is pretty nice so all the hard work is soon forgotten.

Every evening though Ragnarök has difficulties getting to sleep... over and over he sees Haggard wielding that dreadful blade of his smiting the assassin. Though an assassin it was he may not have been all evil.
He wonders if he should talk to Haggard about it all but then again... it wouldn't matter for the ones that are killed.

Yet at the end of all the hard work, the monk is getting quite restless... the wilderness calls... soon this place is well enough defended and then they'll be heading out again he hopes...

Toregan offers to help where he can, though his skills prevent him form helping as much as he would like. with his free time in the week, he goes to Risca to see what armor types the dwarf has already made, not wanting to take away from his other requests. In particular, he checks if there is a chain shirt in stock. He checks with Lerangis for a healer's kit, and also checks in with Gazzy, asking about any reagents that might be gathered from the jungle below.

Tuesday November 6th, 2012 9:36:29 PM

The week passes by in a blur for Meranus; when he isn't chopping wood, he's shaping it or planning how to use it with the smart short one. The labor is long, massive, and a proper day's work for a taur, and it's the happiest time he's had since leaving the Isle. The only painful part of the week are the daily discussions about magic and the bag with Yngvar. Trying to find the flaws in his arguments is starting to give Meranus a headache, but the haversack is still right there...

Yngvar will spend the week assisting where needed with design suggestions and any other assistance needed. For the most part, he is working with the outpost residents and the other adventurers to get to know them better. He spends some time offering his assistance to the various crafters busy throughout.

He makes sure to spend time specifically with Toregan and Mernaus, as he sees the two of them as the closest thing to friends he has enjoyed in many years.

rolls as needed: Craft: Carpentry = 27 (had kit bonus in wrong place), Craft: Leatherworking = 26

(Jorge) Asteron Worldtraveller AC 18/11/16 -- CMD 20 -- HP 31/31 -- Rage 14/14
Wednesday November 7th, 2012 12:09:23 PM

Asteron spends his week working at the bellows in the forge, and helping Meranus gather wood. He's not much of a woodworker, but he does have the strength to carry it. The forge, however, is another matter. Even though he knows but the basics of weaponsmithing, it is a task he thoroughly enjoys. Although his share is to work the bellows, he keeps an eye on the techniques used by Risca the dwarven smith, hoping to learn from him as much as he can.

As the week ends, and repairs and shutters seem completed, he looks quizzically at the rest of the party, and asks the same question he asked one week before: "so... what next?"
